Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਏਕਮ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥
एकम एकंकारु निराला ॥
Ekam ekankkaaru niraalaa ||
The First Day: The One Universal Creator is unique,
ਅਮਰੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਲਾ ॥
अमरु अजोनी जाति न जाला ॥
Amaru ajonee jaati na jaalaa ||
Immortal, unborn, beyond social class or involvement.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ॥
अगम अगोचरु रूपु न रेखिआ ॥
Agam agocharu roopu na rekhiaa ||
He is inaccessible and unfathomable, with no form or feature.
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ॥
खोजत खोजत घटि घटि देखिआ ॥
Khojat khojat ghati ghati dekhiaa ||
Searching, searching, I have seen Him in each and every heart.
ਜੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
जो देखि दिखावै तिस कउ बलि जाई ॥
Jo dekhi dikhaavai tis kau bali jaaee ||
I am a sacrifice to one who sees, and inspires others to see Him.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
गुर परसादि परम पदु पाई ॥१॥
Gur parasaadi param padu paaee ||1||
By Guru's Grace, I have obtained the supreme status. ||1||
ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥
किआ जपु जापउ बिनु जगदीसै ॥
Kiaa japu jaapau binu jagadeesai ||
Whose Name should I chant, and meditate on, except the Lord of the Universe?
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर कै सबदि महलु घरु दीसै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur kai sabadi mahalu gharu deesai ||1|| rahaau ||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is revealed within the home of one's own heart. ||1|| Pause ||
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ॥
दूजै भाइ लगे पछुताणे ॥
Doojai bhaai lage pachhutaa(nn)e ||
The Second Day: Those who are in love with another, come to regret and repent.
ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੇ ॥
जम दरि बाधे आवण जाणे ॥
Jam dari baadhe aava(nn) jaa(nn)e ||
The are tied up at Death's door, and continue coming and going.
ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਆਵਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
किआ लै आवहि किआ ले जाहि ॥
Kiaa lai aavahi kiaa le jaahi ||
What have they brought, and what will they take with them when they go?
ਸਿਰਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
सिरि जमकालु सि चोटा खाहि ॥
Siri jamakaalu si chotaa khaahi ||
The Messenger of Death looms over their heads, and they endure his beating.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਕੋਇ ॥
बिनु गुर सबद न छूटसि कोइ ॥
Binu gur sabad na chhootasi koi ||
Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, no one finds release.
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਕੀਨੑੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
पाखंडि कीन्है मुकति न होइ ॥२॥
Paakhanddi keenhai mukati na hoi ||2||
Practicing hypocrisy, no one finds liberation. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ॥
आपे सचु कीआ कर जोड़ि ॥
Aape sachu keeaa kar jo(rr)i ||
The True Lord Himself created the universe, joining the elements together.
ਅੰਡਜ ਫੋੜਿ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿ ॥
अंडज फोड़ि जोड़ि विछोड़ि ॥
Anddaj pho(rr)i jo(rr)i vichho(rr)i ||
Breaking the cosmic egg, He united, and separated.
ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਕੀਏ ਬੈਸਣ ਕਉ ਥਾਉ ॥
धरति अकासु कीए बैसण कउ थाउ ॥
Dharati akaasu keee baisa(nn) kau thaau ||
He made the earth and the sky into places to live.
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨੰਤੁ ਕੀਏ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ॥
राति दिनंतु कीए भउ भाउ ॥
Raati dinanttu keee bhau bhaau ||
He created day and night, fear and love.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
जिनि कीए करि वेखणहारा ॥
Jini keee kari vekha(nn)ahaaraa ||
The One who created the Creation, also watches over it.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
अवरु न दूजा सिरजणहारा ॥३॥
Avaru na doojaa siraja(nn)ahaaraa ||3||
There is no other Creator Lord. ||3||
ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥
त्रितीआ ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसा ॥
Triteeaa brhamaa bisanu mahesaa ||
The Third Day: He created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵ ਉਪਾਏ ਵੇਸਾ ॥
देवी देव उपाए वेसा ॥
Devee dev upaae vesaa ||
The gods, goddesses and various manifestations.
ਜੋਤੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
जोती जाती गणत न आवै ॥
Jotee jaatee ga(nn)at na aavai ||
The lights and forms cannot be counted.
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
जिनि साजी सो कीमति पावै ॥
Jini saajee so keemati paavai ||
The One who fashioned them, knows their value.
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
कीमति पाइ रहिआ भरपूरि ॥
Keemati paai rahiaa bharapoori ||
He evaluates them, and totally pervades them.
ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੪॥
किसु नेड़ै किसु आखा दूरि ॥४॥
Kisu ne(rr)ai kisu aakhaa doori ||4||
Who is close, and who is far away? ||4||
ਚਉਥਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦਾ ॥
चउथि उपाए चारे बेदा ॥
Chauthi upaae chaare bedaa ||
The Fourth Day: He created the four Vedas,
ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਭੇਦਾ ॥
खाणी चारे बाणी भेदा ॥
Khaa(nn)ee chaare baa(nn)ee bhedaa ||
The four sources of creation, and distinct forms of speech.
ਅਸਟ ਦਸਾ ਖਟੁ ਤੀਨਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
असट दसा खटु तीनि उपाए ॥
Asat dasaa khatu teeni upaae ||
He created the eighteen Puraanas, the six Shaastras and the three qualities.
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
सो बूझै जिसु आपि बुझाए ॥
So boojhai jisu aapi bujhaae ||
He alone understands, whom the Lord causes to understand.
ਤੀਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਚਉਥੈ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
तीनि समावै चउथै वासा ॥
Teeni samaavai chauthai vaasaa ||
One who overcomes the three qualities, dwells in the fourth state.
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੫॥
प्रणवति नानक हम ता के दासा ॥५॥
Pr(nn)avati naanak ham taa ke daasaa ||5||
Prays Nanak, I am his slave. ||5||
ਪੰਚਮੀ ਪੰਚ ਭੂਤ ਬੇਤਾਲਾ ॥
पंचमी पंच भूत बेताला ॥
Pancchamee pancch bhoot betaalaa ||
The Fifth Day: The five elements are demons.
ਆਪਿ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥
आपि अगोचरु पुरखु निराला ॥
Aapi agocharu purakhu niraalaa ||
The Lord Himself is unfathomable and detached.
ਇਕਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸੇ ॥
इकि भ्रमि भूखे मोह पिआसे ॥
Iki bhrmi bhookhe moh piaase ||
Some are gripped by doubt, hunger, emotional attachment and desire.
ਇਕਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ॥
इकि रसु चाखि सबदि त्रिपतासे ॥
Iki rasu chaakhi sabadi tripataase ||
Some taste the sublime essence of the Shabad, and are satisfied.
ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਮਰਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
इकि रंगि राते इकि मरि धूरि ॥
Iki ranggi raate iki mari dhoori ||
Some are imbued with the Lord's Love, while some die, and are reduced to dust.
ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੬॥
इकि दरि घरि साचै देखि हदूरि ॥६॥
Iki dari ghari saachai dekhi hadoori ||6||
Some attain the Court and the Mansion of the True Lord, and behold Him, ever-present. ||6||
ਝੂਠੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
झूठे कउ नाही पति नाउ ॥
Jhoothe kau naahee pati naau ||
The false one has no honor or fame;
ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਕਾਉ ॥
कबहु न सूचा काला काउ ॥
Kabahu na soochaa kaalaa kaau ||
Like the black crow, he never becomes pure.
ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਪੰਖੀ ਬੰਧਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥
पिंजरि पंखी बंधिआ कोइ ॥
Pinjjari pankkhee banddhiaa koi ||
He is like the bird, imprisoned in a cage;
ਛੇਰੀਂ ਭਰਮੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
छेरीं भरमै मुकति न होइ ॥
Chhereen bharamai mukati na hoi ||
He paces back and forth behind the bars, but he is not released.
ਤਉ ਛੂਟੈ ਜਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥
तउ छूटै जा खसमु छडाए ॥
Tau chhootai jaa khasamu chhadaae ||
He alone is emancipated, whom the Lord and Master emancipates.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੭॥
गुरमति मेले भगति द्रिड़ाए ॥७॥
Guramati mele bhagati dri(rr)aae ||7||
He follows the Guru's Teachings, and enshrines devotional worship. ||7||
ਖਸਟੀ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
खसटी खटु दरसन प्रभ साजे ॥
Khasatee khatu darasan prbh saaje ||
The Sixth Day: God organized the six systems of Yoga.
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਵਾਜੇ ॥
अनहद सबदु निराला वाजे ॥
Anahad sabadu niraalaa vaaje ||
The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates of itself.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥
जे प्रभ भावै ता महलि बुलावै ॥
Je prbh bhaavai taa mahali bulaavai ||
If God wills it so, then one is summoned to the Mansion of His Presence.
ਸਬਦੇ ਭੇਦੇ ਤਉ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
सबदे भेदे तउ पति पावै ॥
Sabade bhede tau pati paavai ||
One who is pierced through by the Shabad, obtains honor.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਸ ਖਪਹਿ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥
करि करि वेस खपहि जलि जावहि ॥
Kari kari ves khapahi jali jaavahi ||
Those who wear religious robes burn, and are ruined.
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੮॥
साचै साचे साचि समावहि ॥८॥
Saachai saache saachi samaavahi ||8||
Through Truth, the truthful ones merge into the True Lord. ||8||
ਸਪਤਮੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥
सपतमी सतु संतोखु सरीरि ॥
Sapatamee satu santtokhu sareeri ||
The Seventh Day: When the body is imbued with Truth and contentment,
ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਭਰੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨੀਰਿ ॥
सात समुंद भरे निरमल नीरि ॥
Saat samundd bhare niramal neeri ||
The seven seas within are filled with the Immaculate Water.
ਮਜਨੁ ਸੀਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
मजनु सीलु सचु रिदै वीचारि ॥
Majanu seelu sachu ridai veechaari ||
Bathing in good conduct, and contemplating the True Lord within the heart,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
गुर कै सबदि पावै सभि पारि ॥
Gur kai sabadi paavai sabhi paari ||
One obtains the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and carries everyone across.
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਉ ਭਾਇ ॥
मनि साचा मुखि साचउ भाइ ॥
Mani saachaa mukhi saachau bhaai ||
With the True Lord in the mind, and the True Lord lovingly on one's lips,
ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੯॥
सचु नीसाणै ठाक न पाइ ॥९॥
Sachu neesaa(nn)ai thaak na paai ||9||
One is blessed with the banner of Truth, and meets with no obstructions. ||9||
ਅਸਟਮੀ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਾਧੈ ॥
असटमी असट सिधि बुधि साधै ॥
Asatamee asat sidhi budhi saadhai ||
The Eighth Day: The eight miraculous powers come when one subdues his own mind,
ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਅਰਾਧੈ ॥
सचु निहकेवलु करमि अराधै ॥
Sachu nihakevalu karami araadhai ||
And contemplates the True Lord through pure actions.
ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਬਿਸਰਾਉ ॥
पउण पाणी अगनी बिसराउ ॥
Pau(nn) paa(nn)ee aganee bisaraau ||
Forget the three qualities of wind, water and fire,
ਤਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
तही निरंजनु साचो नाउ ॥
Tahee niranjjanu saacho naau ||
And concentrate on the pure True Name.
ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
तिसु महि मनूआ रहिआ लिव लाइ ॥
Tisu mahi manooaa rahiaa liv laai ||
That human who remains lovingly focused on the Lord,
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
प्रणवति नानकु कालु न खाइ ॥१०॥
Pr(nn)avati naanaku kaalu na khaai ||10||
Prays Nanak, shall not be consumed by death. ||10||
ਨਾਉ ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੇ ਨਾਥ ਨਵ ਖੰਡਾ ॥
नाउ नउमी नवे नाथ नव खंडा ॥
Naau naumee nave naath nav khanddaa ||
The Ninth Day: the nine masters of Yoga, the nine realms of the earth,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਵੰਡਾ ॥
घटि घटि नाथु महा बलवंडा ॥
Ghati ghati naathu mahaa balavanddaa ||
and each and every heart, the Name is the supreme almighty Master.
ਆਈ ਪੂਤਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥
आई पूता इहु जगु सारा ॥
Aaee pootaa ihu jagu saaraa ||
This whole world is the child of Maya.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਆਦਿ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥
प्रभ आदेसु आदि रखवारा ॥
Prbh aadesu aadi rakhavaaraa ||
I bow in submission to God, my Protector from the very beginning of time.
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
आदि जुगादी है भी होगु ॥
Aadi jugaadee hai bhee hogu ||
He was in the beginning, He has been throughout the ages, He is now, and He shall always be.
ਓਹੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧੧॥
ओहु अपर्मपरु करणै जोगु ॥११॥
Ohu aparampparu kara(nn)ai jogu ||11||
He is unlimited, and capable of doing everything. ||11||
ਦਸਮੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
दसमी नामु दानु इसनानु ॥
Dasamee naamu daanu isanaanu ||
The Tenth Day: Meditate on the Naam, give to charity, and purify yourself.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਜਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
अनदिनु मजनु सचा गुण गिआनु ॥
Anadinu majanu sachaa gu(nn) giaanu ||
Night and day, bathe in spiritual wisdom and the Glorious Virtues of the True Lord.
ਸਚਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
सचि मैलु न लागै भ्रमु भउ भागै ॥
Sachi mailu na laagai bhrmu bhau bhaagai ||
Truth cannot be polluted; doubt and fear run away from it.
ਬਿਲਮੁ ਨ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਕਾਚੈ ਤਾਗੈ ॥
बिलमु न तूटसि काचै तागै ॥
Bilamu na tootasi kaachai taagai ||
The flimsy thread breaks in an instant.
ਜਿਉ ਤਾਗਾ ਜਗੁ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥
जिउ तागा जगु एवै जाणहु ॥
Jiu taagaa jagu evai jaa(nn)ahu ||
Know that the world is just like this thread.
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਹੁ ॥੧੨॥
असथिरु चीतु साचि रंगु माणहु ॥१२॥
Asathiru cheetu saachi ranggu maa(nn)ahu ||12||
Your consciousness shall become steady and stable, enjoying the Love of the True Lord. ||12||
ਏਕਾਦਸੀ ਇਕੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਵੈ ॥
एकादसी इकु रिदै वसावै ॥
Ekaadasee iku ridai vasaavai ||
The Eleventh Day: Enshrine the One Lord within your heart.
ਹਿੰਸਾ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥
हिंसा ममता मोहु चुकावै ॥
Hinssaa mamataa mohu chukaavai ||
Eradicate cruelty, egotism and emotional attachment.
ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਆਤਮ ਚੀਨੈ ॥
फलु पावै ब्रतु आतम चीनै ॥
Phalu paavai brtu aatam cheenai ||
Earn the fruitful rewards, by observing the fast of knowing your own self.
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਰਾਚਿ ਤਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੀਨੈ ॥
पाखंडि राचि ततु नही बीनै ॥
Paakhanddi raachi tatu nahee beenai ||
One who is engrossed in hypocrisy, does not see the true essence.
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਾਹਾਰੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ॥
निरमलु निराहारु निहकेवलु ॥
Niramalu niraahaaru nihakevalu ||
The Lord is immaculate, self-sustaining and unattached.
ਸੂਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਲੁ ॥੧੩॥
सूचै साचे ना लागै मलु ॥१३॥
Soochai saache naa laagai malu ||13||
The Pure, True Lord cannot be polluted. ||13||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਏਕੋ ਏਕਾ ॥
जह देखउ तह एको एका ॥
Jah dekhau tah eko ekaa ||
Wherever I look, I see the One Lord there.
ਹੋਰਿ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ਵੇਕੋ ਵੇਕਾ ॥
होरि जीअ उपाए वेको वेका ॥
Hori jeea upaae veko vekaa ||
He created the other beings, of many and various kinds.
ਫਲੋਹਾਰ ਕੀਏ ਫਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
फलोहार कीए फलु जाइ ॥
Phalohaar keee phalu jaai ||
Eating only fruits, one loses the fruits of life.
ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਏ ਸਾਦੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
रस कस खाए सादु गवाइ ॥
Ras kas khaae saadu gavaai ||
Eating only delicacies of various sorts, one loses the true taste.
ਕੂੜੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਲਪਟੈ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
कूड़ै लालचि लपटै लपटाइ ॥
Koo(rr)ai laalachi lapatai lapataai ||
In fraud and greed, people are engrossed and entangled.
ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੧੪॥
छूटै गुरमुखि साचु कमाइ ॥१४॥
Chhootai guramukhi saachu kamaai ||14||
The Gurmukh is emancipated, practicing Truth. ||14||
ਦੁਆਦਸਿ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਅਉਧੂਤਾ ॥
दुआदसि मुद्रा मनु अउधूता ॥
Duaadasi mudraa manu audhootaa ||
The Twelfth Day: One whose mind is not attached to the twelve signs,
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਸੂਤਾ ॥
अहिनिसि जागहि कबहि न सूता ॥
Ahinisi jaagahi kabahi na sootaa ||
Remains awake day and night, and never sleeps.
ਜਾਗਤੁ ਜਾਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
जागतु जागि रहै लिव लाइ ॥
Jaagatu jaagi rahai liv laai ||
He remains awake and aware, lovingly centered on the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥
गुर परचै तिसु कालु न खाइ ॥
Gur parachai tisu kaalu na khaai ||
With faith in the Guru, he is not consumed by death.
ਅਤੀਤ ਭਏ ਮਾਰੇ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥
अतीत भए मारे बैराई ॥
Ateet bhae maare bairaaee ||
Those who become detached, and conquer the five enemies
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਹ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧੫॥
प्रणवति नानक तह लिव लाई ॥१५॥
Pr(nn)avati naanak tah liv laaee ||15||
- prays Nanak, they are lovingly absorbed in the Lord. ||15||
ਦੁਆਦਸੀ ਦਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
दुआदसी दइआ दानु करि जाणै ॥
Duaadasee daiaa daanu kari jaa(nn)ai ||
The Twelfth Day: Know, and practice, compassion and charity.
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਤੋ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥
बाहरि जातो भीतरि आणै ॥
Baahari jaato bheetari aa(nn)ai ||
Bring your out-going mind back home.
ਬਰਤੀ ਬਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ॥
बरती बरत रहै निहकाम ॥
Baratee barat rahai nihakaam ||
Observe the fast of remaining free of desire.
ਅਜਪਾ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮ ॥
अजपा जापु जपै मुखि नाम ॥
Ajapaa jaapu japai mukhi naam ||
Chant the unchanted Chant of the Naam with your mouth.
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
तीनि भवण महि एको जाणै ॥
Teeni bhava(nn) mahi eko jaa(nn)ai ||
Know that the One Lord is contained in the three worlds.
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੧੬॥
सभि सुचि संजम साचु पछाणै ॥१६॥
Sabhi suchi sanjjam saachu pachhaa(nn)ai ||16||
Purity and self-discipline are all contained in knowing the Truth. ||16||
ਤੇਰਸਿ ਤਰਵਰ ਸਮੁਦ ਕਨਾਰੈ ॥
तेरसि तरवर समुद कनारै ॥
Terasi taravar samud kanaarai ||
The Thirteenth Day: He is like a tree on the sea-shore.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਿਖਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰੈ ॥
अम्रितु मूलु सिखरि लिव तारै ॥
Ammmritu moolu sikhari liv taarai ||
But his roots can become immortal, if his mind is attuned to the Lord's Love.
ਡਰ ਡਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਬੂਡੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
डर डरि मरै न बूडै कोइ ॥
Dar dari marai na boodai koi ||
Then, he will not die of fear or anxiety, and he will never drown.
ਨਿਡਰੁ ਬੂਡਿ ਮਰੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥
निडरु बूडि मरै पति खोइ ॥
Nidaru boodi marai pati khoi ||
Without the Fear of God, he drowns and dies, and loses his honor.
ਡਰ ਮਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
डर महि घरु घर महि डरु जाणै ॥
Dar mahi gharu ghar mahi daru jaa(nn)ai ||
With the Fear of God in his heart, and his heart in the Fear of God, he knows God.
ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੈ ॥੧੭॥
तखति निवासु सचु मनि भाणै ॥१७॥
Takhati nivaasu sachu mani bhaa(nn)ai ||17||
He sits on the throne, and becomes pleasing to the Mind of the True Lord. ||17||
ਚਉਦਸਿ ਚਉਥੇ ਥਾਵਹਿ ਲਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
चउदसि चउथे थावहि लहि पावै ॥
Chaudasi chauthe thaavahi lahi paavai ||
The Fourteenth Day: One who enters into the fourth state,
ਰਾਜਸ ਤਾਮਸ ਸਤ ਕਾਲ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
राजस तामस सत काल समावै ॥
Raajas taamas sat kaal samaavai ||
Overcomes time, and the three qualities of raajas, taamas and satva.
ਸਸੀਅਰ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਰੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
ससीअर कै घरि सूरु समावै ॥
Saseear kai ghari sooru samaavai ||
Then the sun enters into the house of the moon,
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
जोग जुगति की कीमति पावै ॥
Jog jugati kee keemati paavai ||
And one knows the value of the technology of Yoga.
ਚਉਦਸਿ ਭਵਨ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
चउदसि भवन पाताल समाए ॥
Chaudasi bhavan paataal samaae ||
Who is permeating the fourteen worlds, the nether regions of the underworld,
ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੧੮॥
खंड ब्रहमंड रहिआ लिव लाए ॥१८॥
Khandd brhamandd rahiaa liv laae ||18||
the galaxies and solar systems; he remains lovingly focused on that God. ||18||
ਅਮਾਵਸਿਆ ਚੰਦੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਗੈਣਾਰਿ ॥
अमावसिआ चंदु गुपतु गैणारि ॥
Amaavasiaa chanddu gupatu gai(nn)aari ||
Amaavas - The Night of the New Moon: The moon is hidden in the sky.
ਬੂਝਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
बूझहु गिआनी सबदु बीचारि ॥
Boojhahu giaanee sabadu beechaari ||
O wise one, understand and contemplate the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਸੀਅਰੁ ਗਗਨਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਈ ॥
ससीअरु गगनि जोति तिहु लोई ॥
Saseearu gagani joti tihu loee ||
The moon in the sky illuminates the three worlds.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
करि करि वेखै करता सोई ॥
Kari kari vekhai karataa soee ||
Creating the creation, the Creator beholds it.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
गुर ते दीसै सो तिस ही माहि ॥
Gur te deesai so tis hee maahi ||
One who sees, through the Guru, merges into Him.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧੯॥
मनमुखि भूले आवहि जाहि ॥१९॥
Manamukhi bhoole aavahi jaahi ||19||
The self-willed manmukhs are deluded, coming and going in reincarnation. ||19||
ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਥਾਪਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਥਾਨਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
घरु दरु थापि थिरु थानि सुहावै ॥
Gharu daru thaapi thiru thaani suhaavai ||
One who establishes his home within his own heart, obtains the most beautiful, permanent place.
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
आपु पछाणै जा सतिगुरु पावै ॥
Aapu pachhaa(nn)ai jaa satiguru paavai ||
One comes to understand his own self, when he finds the True Guru.
ਜਹ ਆਸਾ ਤਹ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥
जह आसा तह बिनसि बिनासा ॥
Jah aasaa tah binasi binaasaa ||
Wherever there is hope, there is destruction and desolation.
ਫੂਟੈ ਖਪਰੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਨਸਾ ॥
फूटै खपरु दुबिधा मनसा ॥
Phootai khaparu dubidhaa manasaa ||
The bowl of duality and selfishness breaks.
ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਲ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥
ममता जाल ते रहै उदासा ॥
Mamataa jaal te rahai udaasaa ||
He who remains detached amidst the traps of attachment,
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੨੦॥੧॥
प्रणवति नानक हम ता के दासा ॥२०॥१॥
Pr(nn)avati naanak ham taa ke daasaa ||20||1||
Prays Nanak, I am the slave of that one. ||20||1||
