ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥

मनु तनु निरमलु अति सोहणा भेटिआ क्रिसन मुरारि ॥

Manu tanu niramalu ati soha(nn)aa bhetiaa krisan muraari ||

The mind and body become immaculately pure and very beautiful, when one meets the Lord, the Destroyer of ego.

ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੯॥

भउ भाउ सभु तिस दा सो सचु वरतै संसारि ॥९॥

Bhau bhaau sabhu tis daa so sachu varatai sanssaari ||9||

Fear and love all belong to Him; He is the True Lord, permeating and pervading the Universe. ||9||

ਵਾਹੁ ਖਸਮ ਤੂ ਵਾਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਚਨਾ ਹਮ ਕੀਏ ॥

वाहु खसम तू वाहु जिनि रचि रचना हम कीए ॥

Vaahu khasam too vaahu jini rachi rachanaa ham keee ||

Waaho! Waaho! You are wonderful and great, O Lord and Master; You created the creation, and made us.

ਸਾਗਰ ਲਹਰਿ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਰ ਵੇਲਿ ਵਰਸ ਵਰਾਹੁ ॥

सागर लहरि समुंद सर वेलि वरस वराहु ॥

Saagar lahari samundd sar veli varas varaahu ||

You made the waters, waves, oceans, pools, plants, clouds and mountains.

ਆਪਿ ਖੜੋਵਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਪੀਣੈ ਆਪਾਹੁ ॥

आपि खड़ोवहि आपि करि आपीणै आपाहु ॥

Aapi kha(rr)ovahi aapi kari aapee(nn)ai aapaahu ||

You Yourself stand in the midst of what You Yourself created.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਥਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਮਾਹੁ ॥

गुरमुखि सेवा थाइ पवै उनमनि ततु कमाहु ॥

Guramukhi sevaa thaai pavai unamani tatu kamaahu ||

The selfless service of the Gurmukhs is approved; in celestial peace, they live the essence of reality.

ਮਸਕਤਿ ਲਹਹੁ ਮਜੂਰੀਆ ਮੰਗਿ ਮੰਗਿ ਖਸਮ ਦਰਾਹੁ ॥

मसकति लहहु मजूरीआ मंगि मंगि खसम दराहु ॥

Masakati lahahu majooreeaa manggi manggi khasam daraahu ||

They receive the wages of their labor, begging at the Door of their Lord and Master.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੁਰ ਦਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਤਉ ਦਰਿ ਊਣਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੧॥

नानक पुर दर वेपरवाह तउ दरि ऊणा नाहि को सचा वेपरवाहु ॥१॥

Naanak pur dar veparavaah tau dari u(nn)aa naahi ko sachaa veparavaahu ||1||

O Nanak, the Court of the Lord is overflowing and carefree; O my True Carefree Lord, no one returns empty-handed from Your Court. ||1||

ਉਜਲ ਮੋਤੀ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰਤਨਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਜੁੜੰਨਿ ॥

उजल मोती सोहणे रतना नालि जुड़ंनि ॥

Ujal motee soha(nn)e ratanaa naali ju(rr)anni ||

The teeth are like brilliant, beautiful pearls, and the eyes are like sparkling jewels.

ਤਿਨ ਜਰੁ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿ ਬੁਢੇ ਥੀਇ ਮਰੰਨਿ ॥੨॥

तिन जरु वैरी नानका जि बुढे थीइ मरंनि ॥२॥

Tin jaru vairee naanakaa ji budhe theei maranni ||2||

Old age is their enemy, O Nanak; when they grow old, they waste away. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥

हरि सालाही सदा सदा तनु मनु सउपि सरीरु ॥

Hari saalaahee sadaa sadaa tanu manu saupi sareeru ||

Praise the Lord, forever and ever; dedicate your body and mind to Him.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚਾ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥

गुर सबदी सचु पाइआ सचा गहिर ग्मभीरु ॥

Gur sabadee sachu paaiaa sachaa gahir gambbheeru ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I have found the True, Profound and Unfathomable Lord.

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੀਰੁ ॥

मनि तनि हिरदै रवि रहिआ हरि हीरा हीरु ॥

Mani tani hiradai ravi rahiaa hari heeraa heeru ||

The Lord, the jewel of jewels, is permeating my mind, body and heart.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਵੈ ਨ ਫੀਰੁ ॥

जनम मरण का दुखु गइआ फिरि पवै न फीरु ॥

Janam mara(nn) kaa dukhu gaiaa phiri pavai na pheeru ||

The pains of birth and death are gone, and I shall never again be consigned to the cycle of reincarnation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥੧੦॥

नानक नामु सलाहि तू हरि गुणी गहीरु ॥१०॥

Naanak naamu salaahi too hari gu(nn)ee gaheeru ||10||

O Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the ocean of excellence. ||10||

नानक इहु तनु जालि जिनि जलिऐ नामु विसारिआ ॥

Naanak ihu tanu jaali jini jaliai naamu visaariaa ||

O Nanak, burn this body; this burnt body has forgotten the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਪਉਦੀ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਾਲਿ ਪਿਛੈ ਹਥੁ ਨ ਅੰਬੜੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਨਿਵੰਧੈ ਤਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

पउदी जाइ परालि पिछै हथु न अ्मबड़ै तितु निवंधै तालि ॥१॥

Paudee jaai paraali pichhai hathu na ambba(rr)ai titu nivanddhai taali ||1||

The dirt is piling up, and in the world hereafter, your hand shall not be able to reach down into this stagnant pond to clean it out. ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਫਿਟਿਆ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵਹੀ ॥

नानक मन के कम फिटिआ गणत न आवही ॥

Naanak man ke kamm phitiaa ga(nn)at na aavahee ||

O Nanak, wicked are the uncountable actions of the mind.

ਕਿਤੀ ਲਹਾ ਸਹੰਮ ਜਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਾ ਧਕਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥

किती लहा सहम जा बखसे ता धका नही ॥२॥

Kitee lahaa sahamm jaa bakhase taa dhakaa nahee ||2||

They bring terrible and painful retributions, but if the Lord forgives me, then I will be spared this punishment. ||2||

Pauree:

ਸਚਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਚਲਾਇਓਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ॥

सचा अमरु चलाइओनु करि सचु फुरमाणु ॥

Sachaa amaru chalaaionu kari sachu phuramaa(nn)u ||

True is the Command He sends forth, and True are the Orders He issues.

ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥

सदा निहचलु रवि रहिआ सो पुरखु सुजाणु ॥

Sadaa nihachalu ravi rahiaa so purakhu sujaa(nn)u ||

Forever unmoving and unchanging, permeating and pervading everywhere, He is the All-knowing Primal Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

गुर परसादी सेवीऐ सचु सबदि नीसाणु ॥

Gur parasaadee seveeai sachu sabadi neesaa(nn)u ||

By Guru's Grace, serve Him, through the True Insignia of the Shabad.

ਪੂਰਾ ਥਾਟੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਣੁ ॥

पूरा थाटु बणाइआ रंगु गुरमति माणु ॥

Pooraa thaatu ba(nn)aaiaa ranggu guramati maa(nn)u ||

That which He makes is perfect; through the Guru's Teachings, enjoy His Love.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧੧॥

अगम अगोचरु अलखु है गुरमुखि हरि जाणु ॥११॥

Agam agocharu alakhu hai guramukhi hari jaa(nn)u ||11||

He is inaccessible, unfathomable and unseen; as Gurmukh, know the Lord. ||11||

Naanak badaraa maal kaa bheetari dhariaa aa(nn)i ||

O Nanak, the bags of coins are brought in

ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਪਰਖੀਅਨਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਦੀਬਾਣਿ ॥੧॥

खोटे खरे परखीअनि साहिब कै दीबाणि ॥१॥

Khote khare parakheeani saahib kai deebaa(nn)i ||1||

And placed in the Court of our Lord and Master, and there, the genuine and the counterfeit are separated. ||1||

First Mehl:

ਨਾਵਣ ਚਲੇ ਤੀਰਥੀ ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੈ ਤਨਿ ਚੋਰ ॥

नावण चले तीरथी मनि खोटै तनि चोर ॥

Naava(nn) chale teerathee mani khotai tani chor ||

They go and bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, but their minds are still evil, and their bodies are thieves.

ਇਕੁ ਭਾਉ ਲਥੀ ਨਾਤਿਆ ਦੁਇ ਭਾ ਚੜੀਅਸੁ ਹੋਰ ॥

इकु भाउ लथी नातिआ दुइ भा चड़ीअसु होर ॥

Iku bhaau lathee naatiaa dui bhaa cha(rr)eeasu hor ||

Some of their filth is washed off by these baths, but they only accumulate twice as much.

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਧੋਤੀ ਤੂਮੜੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਨਿਕੋਰ ॥

बाहरि धोती तूमड़ी अंदरि विसु निकोर ॥

Baahari dhotee tooma(rr)ee anddari visu nikor ||

Like a gourd, they may be washed off on the outside, but on the inside, they are still filled with poison.

ਸਾਧ ਭਲੇ ਅਣਨਾਤਿਆ ਚੋਰ ਸਿ ਚੋਰਾ ਚੋਰ ॥੨॥

साध भले अणनातिआ चोर सि चोरा चोर ॥२॥

Saadh bhale a(nn)anaatiaa chor si choraa chor ||2||

The holy man is blessed, even without such bathing, while a thief is a thief, no matter how much he bathes. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਇਦਾ ਜਗੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

आपे हुकमु चलाइदा जगु धंधै लाइआ ॥

Aape hukamu chalaaidaa jagu dhanddhai laaiaa ||

He Himself issues His Commands, and links the people of the world to their tasks.

ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

इकि आपे ही आपि लाइअनु गुर ते सुखु पाइआ ॥

Iki aape hee aapi laaianu gur te sukhu paaiaa ||

He Himself joins some to Himself, and through the Guru, they find peace.

ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥

दह दिस इहु मनु धावदा गुरि ठाकि रहाइआ ॥

Dah dis ihu manu dhaavadaa guri thaaki rahaaiaa ||

The mind runs around in the ten directions; the Guru holds it still.

ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਸਭ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

नावै नो सभ लोचदी गुरमती पाइआ ॥

Naavai no sabh lochadee guramatee paaiaa ||

Everyone longs for the Name, but it is only found through the Guru's Teachings.

ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥

धुरि लिखिआ मेटि न सकीऐ जो हरि लिखि पाइआ ॥१२॥

Dhuri likhiaa meti na sakeeai jo hari likhi paaiaa ||12||

Your pre-ordained destiny, written by the Lord in the very beginning, cannot be erased. ||12||

ਦੁਇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਉਦਹ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥

दुइ दीवे चउदह हटनाले ॥

Dui deeve chaudah hatanaale ||

The two lamps light the fourteen markets.

ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਤੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥

जेते जीअ तेते वणजारे ॥

Jete jeea tete va(nn)ajaare ||

There are just as many traders as there are living beings.

ਖੁਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਹਟ ਹੋਆ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥

खुल्हे हट होआ वापारु ॥

Khulhe hat hoaa vaapaaru ||

The shops are open, and trading is going on;

ਜੋ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਸੋ ਚਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

जो पहुचै सो चलणहारु ॥

Jo pahuchai so chala(nn)ahaaru ||

Whoever comes there, is bound to depart.

ਧਰਮੁ ਦਲਾਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

धरमु दलालु पाए नीसाणु ॥

Dharamu dalaalu paae neesaa(nn)u ||

The Righteous Judge of Dharma is the broker, who gives his sign of approval.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

नानक नामु लाहा परवाणु ॥

Naanak naamu laahaa paravaa(nn)u ||

O Nanak, those who earn the profit of the Naam are accepted and approved.

ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥

घरि आए वजी वाधाई ॥

Ghari aae vajee vaadhaaee ||

And when they return home, they are greeted with cheers;

ਸਚ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥

सच नाम की मिली वडिआई ॥१॥

Sach naam kee milee vadiaaee ||1||

They obtain the glorious greatness of the True Name. ||1||

ਰਾਤੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਕਾਲੀਆ ਸੁਪੇਦਾ ਸੇ ਵੰਨ ॥

राती होवनि कालीआ सुपेदा से वंन ॥

Raatee hovani kaaleeaa supedaa se vann ||

Even when the night is dark, whatever is white retains its white color.

ਦਿਹੁ ਬਗਾ ਤਪੈ ਘਣਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ਕਾਲੇ ਵੰਨ ॥

दिहु बगा तपै घणा कालिआ काले वंन ॥

Dihu bagaa tapai gha(nn)aa kaaliaa kaale vann ||

And even when the light of day is dazzlingly bright, whatever is black retains its black color.

ਅੰਧੇ ਅਕਲੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥

अंधे अकली बाहरे मूरख अंध गिआनु ॥

Anddhe akalee baahare moorakh anddh giaanu ||

The blind fools have no wisdom at all; their understanding is blind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥

नानक नदरी बाहरे कबहि न पावहि मानु ॥२॥

Naanak nadaree baahare kabahi na paavahi maanu ||2||

O Nanak, without the Lord's Grace, they will never receive honor. ||2||

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਆਪੇ ॥

Kaaiaa kotu rachaaiaa hari sachai aape ||

The True Lord Himself created the body-fortress.

ਇਕਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥

इकि दूजै भाइ खुआइअनु हउमै विचि विआपे ॥

Iki doojai bhaai khuaaianu haumai vichi viaape ||

Some are ruined through the love of duality, engrossed in egotism.

ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਸਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥

इहु मानस जनमु दुल्मभु सा मनमुख संतापे ॥

Ihu maanas janamu dulambbhu saa manamukh santtaape ||

This human body is so difficult to obtain; the self-willed manmukhs suffer in pain.

ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਥਾਪੇ ॥

जिसु आपि बुझाए सो बुझसी जिसु सतिगुरु थापे ॥

Jisu aapi bujhaae so bujhasee jisu satiguru thaape ||

He alone understands, whom the Lord Himself causes to understand; he is blessed by the True Guru.

ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਸਭ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪੇ ॥੧੩॥

सभु जगु खेलु रचाइओनु सभ वरतै आपे ॥१३॥

Sabhu jagu khelu rachaaionu sabh varatai aape ||13||

He created the entire world for His play; He is pervading amongst all. ||13||

ਚੋਰਾ ਜਾਰਾ ਰੰਡੀਆ ਕੁਟਣੀਆ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥

चोरा जारा रंडीआ कुटणीआ दीबाणु ॥

Choraa jaaraa randdeeaa kuta(nn)eeaa deebaa(nn)u ||

Thieves, adulterers, prostitutes and pimps,

ਵੇਦੀਨਾ ਕੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਵੇਦੀਨਾ ਕਾ ਖਾਣੁ ॥

वेदीना की दोसती वेदीना का खाणु ॥

Vedeenaa kee dosatee vedeenaa kaa khaa(nn)u ||

Make friendships with the unrighteous, and eat with the unrighteous.

ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਵਸੈ ਸੈਤਾਨੁ ॥

सिफती सार न जाणनी सदा वसै सैतानु ॥

Siphatee saar na jaa(nn)anee sadaa vasai saitaanu ||

They do not know the value of the Lord's Praises, and Satan is always with them.

ਗਦਹੁ ਚੰਦਨਿ ਖਉਲੀਐ ਭੀ ਸਾਹੂ ਸਿਉ ਪਾਣੁ ॥

गदहु चंदनि खउलीऐ भी साहू सिउ पाणु ॥

Gadahu chanddani khauleeai bhee saahoo siu paa(nn)u ||

If a donkey is anointed with sandalwood paste, he still loves to roll in the dirt.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੂੜੈ ਕਤਿਐ ਕੂੜਾ ਤਣੀਐ ਤਾਣੁ ॥

नानक कूड़ै कतिऐ कूड़ा तणीऐ ताणु ॥

Naanak koo(rr)ai katiai koo(rr)aa ta(nn)eeai taa(nn)u ||

O Nanak, by spinning falsehood, a fabric of falsehood is woven.

ਕੂੜਾ ਕਪੜੁ ਕਛੀਐ ਕੂੜਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਮਾਣੁ ॥੧॥

कूड़ा कपड़ु कछीऐ कूड़ा पैनणु माणु ॥१॥

Koo(rr)aa kapa(rr)u kachheeai koo(rr)aa paina(nn)u maa(nn)u ||1||

False is the cloth and its measurement, and false is pride in such a garment. ||1||

ਬਾਂਗਾ ਬੁਰਗੂ ਸਿੰਙੀਆ ਨਾਲੇ ਮਿਲੀ ਕਲਾਣ ॥

Baangaa buragoo sin(ng)(ng)eeaa naale milee kalaa(nn) ||

The callers to prayer, the flute-players, the horn-blowers, and also the singers

ਇਕਿ ਦਾਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

इकि दाते इकि मंगते नामु तेरा परवाणु ॥

Iki daate iki manggate naamu teraa paravaa(nn)u ||

- some are givers, and some are beggars; they become acceptable only through Your Name, Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨੑੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਕੈ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥

नानक जिन्ही सुणि कै मंनिआ हउ तिना विटहु कुरबाणु ॥२॥

Naanak jinhee su(nn)i kai manniaa hau tinaa vitahu kurabaa(nn)u ||2||

O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those who hear and accept the Name. ||2||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਹੈ ਕੂੜੋ ਹੋਇ ਗਇਆ ॥

माइआ मोहु सभु कूड़ु है कूड़ो होइ गइआ ॥

Maaiaa mohu sabhu koo(rr)u hai koo(rr)o hoi gaiaa ||

Attachment to Maya is totally false, and false are those who go that way.

ਹਉਮੈ ਝਗੜਾ ਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਝਗੜੈ ਜਗੁ ਮੁਇਆ ॥

हउमै झगड़ा पाइओनु झगड़ै जगु मुइआ ॥

Haumai jhaga(rr)aa paaionu jhaga(rr)ai jagu muiaa ||

Through egotism, the world is caught in conflict and strife, and it dies.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਝਗੜੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਓਨੁ ਇਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥

गुरमुखि झगड़ु चुकाइओनु इको रवि रहिआ ॥

Guramukhi jhaga(rr)u chukaaionu iko ravi rahiaa ||

The Gurmukh is free of conflict and strife, and sees the One Lord, pervading everywhere.

ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰਿ ਗਇਆ ॥

सभु आतम रामु पछाणिआ भउजलु तरि गइआ ॥

Sabhu aatam raamu pachhaa(nn)iaa bhaujalu tari gaiaa ||

Recognizing that the Supreme Soul is everywhere, he crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਇਆ ॥੧੪॥

जोति समाणी जोति विचि हरि नामि समइआ ॥१४॥

Joti samaa(nn)ee joti vichi hari naami samaiaa ||14||

His light merges into the Light, and he is absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||14||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਦੇਹਿ ਮੈ ਤੂੰ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥

सतिगुर भीखिआ देहि मै तूं सम्रथु दातारु ॥

Satigur bheekhiaa dehi mai toonn sammrthu daataaru ||

O True Guru, bless me with Your charity; You are the All-powerful Giver.

ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਐ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

हउमै गरबु निवारीऐ कामु क्रोधु अहंकारु ॥

Haumai garabu nivaareeai kaamu krodhu ahankkaaru ||

May I subdue and quiet my egotism, pride, sexual desire, anger and self-conceit.

ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਪਰਜਾਲੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥

लबु लोभु परजालीऐ नामु मिलै आधारु ॥

Labu lobhu parajaaleeai naamu milai aadhaaru ||

Burn away all my greed, and give me the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਵਤਨ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

अहिनिसि नवतन निरमला मैला कबहूं न होइ ॥

Ahinisi navatan niramalaa mailaa kabahoonn na hoi ||

Day and night, keep me ever-fresh and new, spotless and pure; let me never be soiled by sin.

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

नानक इह बिधि छुटीऐ नदरि तेरी सुखु होइ ॥१॥

Naanak ih bidhi chhuteeai nadari teree sukhu hoi ||1||

O Nanak, in this way I am saved; by Your Grace, I have found peace. ||1||

ਇਕੋ ਕੰਤੁ ਸਬਾਈਆ ਜਿਤੀ ਦਰਿ ਖੜੀਆਹ ॥

Iko kanttu sabaaeeaa jitee dari kha(rr)eeaah ||

There is only the one Husband Lord, for all who stand at His Door.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੰਤੈ ਰਤੀਆ ਪੁਛਹਿ ਬਾਤੜੀਆਹ ॥੨॥

नानक कंतै रतीआ पुछहि बातड़ीआह ॥२॥

Naanak kanttai rateeaa puchhahi baata(rr)eeaah ||2||

O Nanak, they ask for news of their Husband Lord, from those who are imbued with His Love. ||2||

ਸਭੇ ਕੰਤੈ ਰਤੀਆ ਮੈ ਦੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਕਿਤੁ ॥

Sabhe kanttai rateeaa mai dohaaga(nn)i kitu ||

All are imbued with love for their Husband Lord; I am a discarded bride - what good am I?

ਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਏਤੜੇ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਫੇਰੇ ਚਿਤੁ ॥੩॥

मै तनि अवगण एतड़े खसमु न फेरे चितु ॥३॥

Mai tani avaga(nn) eta(rr)e khasamu na phere chitu ||3||

My body is filled with so many faults; my Lord and Master does not even turn His thoughts to me. ||3||

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਦੈ ਵਾਤਿ ॥

हउ बलिहारी तिन कउ सिफति जिना दै वाति ॥

Hau balihaaree tin kau siphati jinaa dai vaati ||

I am a sacrifice to those who praise the Lord with their mouths.

ਸਭਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਇਕ ਮੈ ਦੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੪॥

सभि राती सोहागणी इक मै दोहागणि राति ॥४॥

Sabhi raatee sohaaga(nn)ee ik mai dohaaga(nn)i raati ||4||

All the nights are for the happy soul-brides; I am a discarded bride - if only I could have even one night with Him! ||4||

ਦਰਿ ਮੰਗਤੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ॥

दरि मंगतु जाचै दानु हरि दीजै क्रिपा करि ॥

Dari manggatu jaachai daanu hari deejai kripaa kari ||

I am a beggar at Your Door, begging for charity; O Lord, please grant me Your Mercy, and give to me.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ॥

गुरमुखि लेहु मिलाइ जनु पावै नामु हरि ॥

Guramukhi lehu milaai janu paavai naamu hari ||

As Gurmukh, unite me, your humble servant, with You, that I may receive Your Name.

ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਧਰਿ ॥

अनहद सबदु वजाइ जोती जोति धरि ॥

Anahad sabadu vajaai jotee joti dhari ||

Then, the unstruck melody of the Shabad will vibrate and resound, and my light will blend with the Light.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਹਰਿ ॥

हिरदै हरि गुण गाइ जै जै सबदु हरि ॥

Hiradai hari gu(nn) gaai jai jai sabadu hari ||

Within my heart,I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord,and celebrate the Word of the Lord's Shabad.

ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ॥੧੫॥

जग महि वरतै आपि हरि सेती प्रीति करि ॥१५॥

Jag mahi varatai aapi hari setee preeti kari ||15||

The Lord Himself is pervading and permeating the world; so fall in love with Him! ||15||

ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਸਾਉ ॥

जिनी न पाइओ प्रेम रसु कंत न पाइओ साउ ॥

Jinee na paaio prem rasu kantt na paaio saau ||

Those who do not obtain the sublime essence, the love and delight of their Husband Lord,

ਸੁੰਞੇ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਉ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥

सुंञे घर का पाहुणा जिउ आइआ तिउ जाउ ॥१॥

Sun(ny)e ghar kaa paahu(nn)aa jiu aaiaa tiu jaau ||1||

Are like guests in a deserted house; they leave just as they have come, empty-handed. ||1||

ਸਉ ਓਲਾਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਦਿਨੈ ਕੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਿਲਨੑਿ ਸਹੰਸ ॥

सउ ओलाम्हे दिनै के राती मिलन्हि सहंस ॥

Sau olaamhe dinai ke raatee milanhi sahanss ||

He receives hundreds and thousands of reprimands, day and night;

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਛਡਿ ਕੈ ਕਰੰਗੀ ਲਗਾ ਹੰਸੁ ॥

सिफति सलाहणु छडि कै करंगी लगा हंसु ॥

Siphati salaaha(nn)u chhadi kai karanggee lagaa hanssu ||

The swan-soul has renounced the Lord's Praises, and attached itself to a rotting carcass.

ਫਿਟੁ ਇਵੇਹਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਇ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਪੇਟੁ ॥

फिटु इवेहा जीविआ जितु खाइ वधाइआ पेटु ॥

Phitu ivehaa jeeviaa jitu khaai vadhaaiaa petu ||

Cursed is that life, in which one only eats to fill his belly.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਭੋ ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਹੇਤੁ ॥੨॥

नानक सचे नाम विणु सभो दुसमनु हेतु ॥२॥

Naanak sache naam vi(nn)u sabho dusamanu hetu ||2||

O Nanak, without the True Name, all one's friends turn to enemies. ||2||

ਢਾਢੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥

Dhaadhee gu(nn) gaavai nit janamu savaariaa ||

The minstrel continually sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, to embellish his life.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥

गुरमुखि सेवि सलाहि सचा उर धारिआ ॥

Guramukhi sevi salaahi sachaa ur dhaariaa ||

The Gurmukh serves and praises the True Lord, enshrining Him within his heart.

ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਹਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥

घरु दरु पावै महलु नामु पिआरिआ ॥

Gharu daru paavai mahalu naamu piaariaa ||

He obtains his own home and mansion, by loving the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥

गुरमुखि पाइआ नामु हउ गुर कउ वारिआ ॥

Guramukhi paaiaa naamu hau gur kau vaariaa ||

As Gurmukh, I have obtained the Naam; I am a sacrifice to the Guru.

ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੧੬॥

तू आपि सवारहि आपि सिरजनहारिआ ॥१६॥

Too aapi savaarahi aapi sirajanahaariaa ||16||

You Yourself embellish and adorn us, O Creator Lord. ||16||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

दीवा बलै अंधेरा जाइ ॥

Deevaa balai anddheraa jaai ||

When the lamp is lit, the darkness is dispelled;

ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਖਾਇ ॥

बेद पाठ मति पापा खाइ ॥

Bed paath mati paapaa khaai ||

Reading the Vedas, sinful intellect is destroyed.

ਉਗਵੈ ਸੂਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਚੰਦੁ ॥

उगवै सूरु न जापै चंदु ॥

Ugavai sooru na jaapai chanddu ||

When the sun rises, the moon is not visible.

ਜਹ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਿਟੰਤੁ ॥

जह गिआन प्रगासु अगिआनु मिटंतु ॥

Jah giaan prgaasu agiaanu mitanttu ||

Wherever spiritual wisdom appears, ignorance is dispelled.

ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ॥

बेद पाठ संसार की कार ॥

Bed paath sanssaar kee kaar ||

Reading the Vedas is the world's occupation;

ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥

पड़्हि पड़्हि पंडित करहि बीचार ॥

Pa(rr)hi pa(rr)hi panddit karahi beechaar ||

The Pandits read them, study them and contemplate them.

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥

बिनु बूझे सभ होइ खुआर ॥

Binu boojhe sabh hoi khuaar ||

Without understanding, all are ruined.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

नानक गुरमुखि उतरसि पारि ॥१॥

Naanak guramukhi utarasi paari ||1||

O Nanak, the Gurmukh is carried across. ||1||

ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

Sabadai saadu na aaio naami na lago piaaru ||

Those who do not savor the Word of the Shabad, do not love the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਰਸਨਾ ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥

रसना फिका बोलणा नित नित होइ खुआरु ॥

Rasanaa phikaa bola(nn)aa nit nit hoi khuaaru ||

They speak insipidly with their tongues, and are continually disgraced.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

नानक पइऐ किरति कमावणा कोइ न मेटणहारु ॥२॥

Naanak paiai kirati kamaava(nn)aa koi na meta(nn)ahaaru ||2||

O Nanak, they act according to the karma of their past actions, which no one can erase. ||2||

ਜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥

Ji prbhu saalaahe aapa(nn)aa so sobhaa paae ||

One who praises his God, receives honor.

ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

हउमै विचहु दूरि करि सचु मंनि वसाए ॥

Haumai vichahu doori kari sachu manni vasaae ||

He drives out egotism from within himself, and enshrines the True Name within his mind.

ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

सचु बाणी गुण उचरै सचा सुखु पाए ॥

Sachu baa(nn)ee gu(nn) ucharai sachaa sukhu paae ||

Through the True Word of the Guru's Bani,he chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord,and finds true peace.

ਮੇਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

मेलु भइआ चिरी विछुंनिआ गुर पुरखि मिलाए ॥

Melu bhaiaa chiree vichhunniaa gur purakhi milaae ||

He is united with the Lord, after being separated for so long; the Guru, the Primal Being, unites him with the Lord.

ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਵ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੧੭॥

मनु मैला इव सुधु है हरि नामु धिआए ॥१७॥

Manu mailaa iv sudhu hai hari naamu dhiaae ||17||

In this way, his filthy mind is cleansed and purified, and he meditates on the Name of the Lord. ||17||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂਮਲ ਫੁਲ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਪਸਿ ਮਾਲ ॥

काइआ कूमल फुल गुण नानक गुपसि माल ॥

Kaaiaa koomal phul gu(nn) naanak gupasi maal ||

With the fresh leaves of the body, and the flowers of virtue, Nanak has weaved his garland.

ਏਨੀ ਫੁਲੀ ਰਉ ਕਰੇ ਅਵਰ ਕਿ ਚੁਣੀਅਹਿ ਡਾਲ ॥੧॥

एनी फुली रउ करे अवर कि चुणीअहि डाल ॥१॥

Enee phulee rau kare avar ki chu(nn)eeahi daal ||1||

The Lord is pleased with such garlands, so why pick any other flowers? ||1||

Mahalaa 2 ||

Second Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਾ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨੑ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਕੰਤੁ ॥

नानक तिना बसंतु है जिन्ह घरि वसिआ कंतु ॥

Naanak tinaa basanttu hai jinh ghari vasiaa kanttu ||

O Nanak, it is the spring season for those, within whose homes their Husband Lord abides.

ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਕੰਤ ਦਿਸਾਪੁਰੀ ਸੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਜਲੰਤ ॥੨॥

जिन के कंत दिसापुरी से अहिनिसि फिरहि जलंत ॥२॥

Jin ke kantt disaapuree se ahinisi phirahi jalantt ||2||

But those, whose Husband Lord is far away in distant lands, continue burning, day and night. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ॥

आपे बखसे दइआ करि गुर सतिगुर बचनी ॥

Aape bakhase daiaa kari gur satigur bachanee ||

The Merciful Lord Himself forgives those who dwell upon the Word of the Guru, the True Guru.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਚੈ ਰਚਨੀ ॥

अनदिनु सेवी गुण रवा मनु सचै रचनी ॥

Anadinu sevee gu(nn) ravaa manu sachai rachanee ||

Night and day, I serve the True Lord, and chant His Glorious Praises; my mind merges into Him.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਲਖਨੀ ॥

प्रभु मेरा बेअंतु है अंतु किनै न लखनी ॥

Prbhu meraa beanttu hai anttu kinai na lakhanee ||

My God is infinite; no one knows His limit.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਜਪਨੀ ॥

सतिगुर चरणी लगिआ हरि नामु नित जपनी ॥

Satigur chara(nn)ee lagiaa hari naamu nit japanee ||

Grasping hold of the feet of the True Guru, meditate continually on the Lord's Name.

ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਸਭਿ ਘਰੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਚਨੀ ॥੧੮॥

जो इछै सो फलु पाइसी सभि घरै विचि जचनी ॥१८॥

Thus you shall obtain the fruits of your desires, and all wishes shall be fulfilled within your home. ||18||

Shalok, First Mehl:

ਪਹਿਲ ਬਸੰਤੈ ਆਗਮਨਿ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਮਉਲਿਓ ਸੋਇ ॥

पहिल बसंतै आगमनि पहिला मउलिओ सोइ ॥

Pahil basanttai aagamani pahilaa maulio soi ||

Spring brings forth the first blossoms, but the Lord blossoms earlier still.

ਜਿਤੁ ਮਉਲਿਐ ਸਭ ਮਉਲੀਐ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਮਉਲਿਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥

जितु मउलिऐ सभ मउलीऐ तिसहि न मउलिहु कोइ ॥१॥

Jitu mauliai sabh mauleeai tisahi na maulihu koi ||1||

By His blossoming, everything blossoms; no one else causes Him to blossom forth. ||1||

ਪਹਿਲ ਬਸੰਤੈ ਆਗਮਨਿ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

पहिल बसंतै आगमनि तिस का करहु बीचारु ॥

Pahil basanttai aagamani tis kaa karahu beechaaru ||

He blossoms forth even earlier than the spring; reflect upon Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

नानक सो सालाहीऐ जि सभसै दे आधारु ॥२॥

Naanak so saalaaheeai ji sabhasai de aadhaaru ||2||

O Nanak, praise the One who gives Support to all. ||2||

ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ॥

मिलिऐ मिलिआ ना मिलै मिलै मिलिआ जे होइ ॥

Miliai miliaa naa milai milai miliaa je hoi ||

By uniting, the united one is not united; he unites, only if he is united.

ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੈ ਜੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

अंतर आतमै जो मिलै मिलिआ कहीऐ सोइ ॥३॥

Anttar aatamai jo milai miliaa kaheeai soi ||3||

But if he unites deep within his soul, then he is said to be united. ||3||

Pauree:

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

हरि हरि नामु सलाहीऐ सचु कार कमावै ॥

Hari hari naamu salaaheeai sachu kaar kamaavai ||

Praise the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and practice truthful deeds.

ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਗਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

दूजी कारै लगिआ फिरि जोनी पावै ॥

Doojee kaarai lagiaa phiri jonee paavai ||

Attached to other deeds, one is consigned to wander in reincarnation.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

नामि रतिआ नामु पाईऐ नामे गुण गावै ॥

Naami ratiaa naamu paaeeai naame gu(nn) gaavai ||

Attuned to the Name, one obtains the Name, and through the Name, sings the Lord's Praises.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥

गुर कै सबदि सलाहीऐ हरि नामि समावै ॥

Gur kai sabadi salaaheeai hari naami samaavai ||

Praising the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he merges in the Lord's Name.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੯॥

सतिगुर सेवा सफल है सेविऐ फल पावै ॥१९॥

Satigur sevaa saphal hai seviai phal paavai ||19||

Service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding; serving Him, the fruits are obtained. ||19||

ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਕੋਇ ਮੰਞੁ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਇਕੁ ਤੂ ॥

किस ही कोई कोइ मंञु निमाणी इकु तू ॥

Kis hee koee koi man(ny)u nimaa(nn)ee iku too ||

Some people have others, but I am forlorn and dishonored; I have only You, Lord.

ਕਿਉ ਨ ਮਰੀਜੈ ਰੋਇ ਜਾ ਲਗੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਹੀ ॥੧॥

किउ न मरीजै रोइ जा लगु चिति न आवही ॥१॥

Kiu na mareejai roi jaa lagu chiti na aavahee ||1||

I might as well just die crying, if You will not come into my mind. ||1||

Second Mehl:

ਜਾਂ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਾ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਿਓ ਦੁਖਿ ਭੀ ਸੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿਓਇ ॥

जां सुखु ता सहु राविओ दुखि भी सम्हालिओइ ॥

Jaan sukhu taa sahu raavio dukhi bhee sammhaalioi ||

When there is peace and pleasure, that is the time to remember your Husband Lord. In times of suffering and pain, remember Him then as well.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਿਆਣੀਏ ਇਉ ਕੰਤ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

नानकु कहै सिआणीए इउ कंत मिलावा होइ ॥२॥

Naanaku kahai siaa(nn)eee iu kantt milaavaa hoi ||2||

Says Nanak, O wise bride, this is the way to meet your Husband Lord. ||2||

ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਕਿਰਮ ਜੰਤੁ ਵਡੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

हउ किआ सालाही किरम जंतु वडी तेरी वडिआई ॥

Hau kiaa saalaahee kiram janttu vadee teree vadiaaee ||

I am a worm - how can I praise You, O Lord; Your glorious greatness is so great!

ਤੂ ਅਗਮ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਅਗੰਮੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥

तू अगम दइआलु अगमु है आपि लैहि मिलाई ॥

Too agam daiaalu agammu hai aapi laihi milaaee ||

You are inaccessible, merciful and unapproachable; You Yourself unite us with Yourself.

ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੇਲੀ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਤੂ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥

मै तुझ बिनु बेली को नही तू अंति सखाई ॥

Mai tujh binu belee ko nahee too antti sakhaaee ||

I have no other friend except You; in the end, You alone will be my Companion and Support.

ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਤਿਨ ਲੈਹਿ ਛਡਾਈ ॥

जो तेरी सरणागती तिन लैहि छडाई ॥

Jo teree sara(nn)aagatee tin laihi chhadaaee ||

You save those who enter Your Sanctuary.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਈ ॥੨੦॥੧॥

नानक वेपरवाहु है तिसु तिलु न तमाई ॥२०॥१॥

Naanak veparavaahu hai tisu tilu na tamaaee ||20||1||

O Nanak, He is care-free; He has no greed at all. ||20||1||

ਅਵਤਰਿ ਆਇ ਕਹਾ ਤੁਮ ਕੀਨਾ ॥

अवतरि आइ कहा तुम कीना ॥

Avatari aai kahaa tum keenaa ||

Since your birth, what have you done?

ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਲੀਨਾ ॥੧॥

राम को नामु न कबहू लीना ॥१॥

Raam ko naamu na kabahoo leenaa ||1||

You have never even chanted the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਨ ਜਪਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

राम न जपहु कवन मति लागे ॥

Raam na japahu kavan mati laage ||

You have not meditated on the Lord; what thoughts are you attached to?

ਮਰਿ ਜਇਬੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मरि जइबे कउ किआ करहु अभागे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Mari jaibe kau kiaa karahu abhaage ||1|| rahaau ||

What preparations are you making for your death, O unfortunate one? ||1|| Pause ||

ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਜੀਵਾਇਆ ॥

दुख सुख करि कै कुट्मबु जीवाइआ ॥

Dukh sukh kari kai kutambbu jeevaaiaa ||

Through pain and pleasure, you have taken care of your family.

ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਇਕਸਰ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

मरती बार इकसर दुखु पाइआ ॥२॥

Maratee baar ikasar dukhu paaiaa ||2||

But at the time of death, you shall have to endure the agony all alone. ||2||

ਕੰਠ ਗਹਨ ਤਬ ਕਰਨ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥

कंठ गहन तब करन पुकारा ॥

Kantth gahan tab karan pukaaraa ||

When you are seized by the neck, then you shall cry out.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਆਗੇ ਤੇ ਨ ਸੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੧॥

कहि कबीर आगे ते न सम्हारा ॥३॥१॥

Kahi kabeer aage te na sammhaaraa ||3||1||

Says Kabeer, why didn't you remember the Lord before this? ||3||1||

ਸੂਹੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥

सूही कबीर जी ॥

Soohee kabeer jee ||

Soohee, Kabeer Jee:

ਥਰਹਰ ਕੰਪੈ ਬਾਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥

थरहर क्मपै बाला जीउ ॥

Tharahar kamppai baalaa jeeu ||

My innocent soul trembles and shakes.

ਨਾ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਸੀ ਪੀਉ ॥੧॥

ना जानउ किआ करसी पीउ ॥१॥

Naa jaanau kiaa karasee peeu ||1||

I do not know how my Husband Lord will deal with me. ||1||

ਰੈਨਿ ਗਈ ਮਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਭੀ ਜਾਇ ॥

रैनि गई मत दिनु भी जाइ ॥

Raini gaee mat dinu bhee jaai ||

The night of my youth has passed away; will the day of old age also pass away?

ਭਵਰ ਗਏ ਬਗ ਬੈਠੇ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

भवर गए बग बैठे आइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Bhavar gae bag baithe aai ||1|| rahaau ||

My dark hairs, like bumble bees, have gone away, and grey hairs, like cranes, have settled upon my head. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਾਚੈ ਕਰਵੈ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਪਾਨੀ ॥

काचै करवै रहै न पानी ॥

Kaachai karavai rahai na paanee ||

Water does not remain in the unbaked clay pot;

ਹੰਸੁ ਚਲਿਆ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੁਮਲਾਨੀ ॥੨॥

हंसु चलिआ काइआ कुमलानी ॥२॥

Hanssu chaliaa kaaiaa kumalaanee ||2||

When the soul-swan departs, the body withers away. ||2||

ਕੁਆਰ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਕਰਤ ਸੀਗਾਰਾ ॥

कुआर कंनिआ जैसे करत सीगारा ॥

Kuaar kanniaa jaise karat seegaaraa ||

I decorate myself like a young virgin;

ਕਿਉ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ਬਾਝੁ ਭਤਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

किउ रलीआ मानै बाझु भतारा ॥३॥

Kiu raleeaa maanai baajhu bhataaraa ||3||

But how can I enjoy pleasures, without my Husband Lord? ||3||

ਕਾਗ ਉਡਾਵਤ ਭੁਜਾ ਪਿਰਾਨੀ ॥

काग उडावत भुजा पिरानी ॥

Kaag udaavat bhujaa piraanee ||

My arm is tired, driving away the crows.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹ ਕਥਾ ਸਿਰਾਨੀ ॥੪॥੨॥

कहि कबीर इह कथा सिरानी ॥४॥२॥

Kahi kabeer ih kathaa siraanee ||4||2||

Says Kabeer, this is the way the story of my life ends. ||4||2||

ਅਮਲੁ ਸਿਰਾਨੋ ਲੇਖਾ ਦੇਨਾ ॥

अमलु सिरानो लेखा देना ॥

Amalu siraano lekhaa denaa ||

Your time of service is at its end, and you will have to give your account.

ਆਏ ਕਠਿਨ ਦੂਤ ਜਮ ਲੇਨਾ ॥

आए कठिन दूत जम लेना ॥

Aae kathin doot jam lenaa ||

The hard-hearted Messenger of Death has come to take you away.

ਕਿਆ ਤੈ ਖਟਿਆ ਕਹਾ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

किआ तै खटिआ कहा गवाइआ ॥

Kiaa tai khatiaa kahaa gavaaiaa ||

What have you earned, and what have you lost?

ਚਲਹੁ ਸਿਤਾਬ ਦੀਬਾਨਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

चलहु सिताब दीबानि बुलाइआ ॥१॥

Chalahu sitaab deebaani bulaaiaa ||1||

Come immediately! You are summoned to His Court! ||1||

ਚਲੁ ਦਰਹਾਲੁ ਦੀਵਾਨਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ॥

चलु दरहालु दीवानि बुलाइआ ॥

Chalu darahaalu deevaani bulaaiaa ||

Get going! Come just as you are! You have been summoned to His Court.

ਹਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਕਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि फुरमानु दरगह का आइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari phuramaanu daragah kaa aaiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

The Order has come from the Court of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਰਉ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਗਾਵ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਾਕੀ ॥

करउ अरदासि गाव किछु बाकी ॥

Karau aradaasi gaav kichhu baakee ||

I pray to the Messenger of Death: please, I still have some outstanding debts to collect in the village.

ਲੇਉ ਨਿਬੇਰਿ ਆਜੁ ਕੀ ਰਾਤੀ ॥

लेउ निबेरि आजु की राती ॥

Leu niberi aaju kee raatee ||

I will collect them tonight;

ਕਿਛੁ ਭੀ ਖਰਚੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਾ ਸਾਰਉ ॥

किछु भी खरचु तुम्हारा सारउ ॥

Kichhu bhee kharachu tumhaaraa saarau ||

I will also pay you something for your expenses,

ਸੁਬਹ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਸਰਾਇ ਗੁਜਾਰਉ ॥੨॥

सुबह निवाज सराइ गुजारउ ॥२॥

Subah nivaaj saraai gujaarau ||2||

And I will recite my morning prayers on the way. ||2||

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

साधसंगि जा कउ हरि रंगु लागा ॥

Saadhasanggi jaa kau hari ranggu laagaa ||

One who is imbued with the Lord's Love, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy,

ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥

धनु धनु सो जनु पुरखु सभागा ॥

Dhanu dhanu so janu purakhu sabhaagaa ||

blessed, blessed is that most fortunate servant of the Lord.

ਈਤ ਊਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥

ईत ऊत जन सदा सुहेले ॥

Eet ut jan sadaa suhele ||

Here and there, the humble servants of the Lord are always happy.

ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਅਮੋਲੇ ॥੩॥

जनमु पदारथु जीति अमोले ॥३॥

Janamu padaarathu jeeti amole ||3||

They win the priceless treasure of this human life. ||3||

ਜਾਗਤੁ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

जागतु सोइआ जनमु गवाइआ ॥

Jaagatu soiaa janamu gavaaiaa ||

When he is awake, he is sleeping, and so he loses this life.

ਮਾਲੁ ਧਨੁ ਜੋਰਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥

मालु धनु जोरिआ भइआ पराइआ ॥

Maalu dhanu joriaa bhaiaa paraaiaa ||

The property and wealth he has accumulated passes on to someone else.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਤੇਈ ਨਰ ਭੂਲੇ ॥

कहु कबीर तेई नर भूले ॥

Kahu kabeer teee nar bhoole ||

Says Kabeer, those people are deluded,

ਖਸਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਮਾਟੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਰੂਲੇ ॥੪॥੩॥

खसमु बिसारि माटी संगि रूले ॥४॥३॥

Khasamu bisaari maatee sanggi roole ||4||3||

Who forget their Lord and Master, and roll in the dust. ||4||3||

ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਸੁਖ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ॥

तजि अभिमानु सुख रलीआ मानै ॥

Taji abhimaanu sukh raleeaa maanai ||

Renouncing pride, she enjoys peace and pleasure.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ॥

तनु मनु देइ न अंतरु राखै ॥

Tanu manu dei na anttaru raakhai ||

She surrenders her body and mind to Him, and does not remain separate from Him.

ਅਵਰਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਸੁਨੈ ਅਭਾਖੈ ॥੧॥

अवरा देखि न सुनै अभाखै ॥१॥

Avaraa dekhi na sunai abhaakhai ||1||

She does not see or hear, or speak to another. ||1||

ਸੋ ਕਤ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥

सो कत जानै पीर पराई ॥

So kat jaanai peer paraaee ||

How can anyone know the pain of another,

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जा कै अंतरि दरदु न पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jaa kai anttari daradu na paaee ||1|| rahaau ||

If there is no compassion and sympathy within? ||1|| Pause ||

ਦੁਖੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਦੁਇ ਪਖ ਹੀਨੀ ॥

दुखी दुहागनि दुइ पख हीनी ॥

Dukhee duhaagani dui pakh heenee ||

The discarded bride is miserable, and loses both worlds;

ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਹ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ॥

जिनि नाह निरंतरि भगति न कीनी ॥

Jini naah niranttari bhagati na keenee ||

She does not worship her Husband Lord.

ਪੁਰ ਸਲਾਤ ਕਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥

पुर सलात का पंथु दुहेला ॥

Pur salaat kaa pantthu duhelaa ||

The bridge over the fire of hell is difficult and treacherous.

ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਗਵਨੁ ਇਕੇਲਾ ॥੨॥

संगि न साथी गवनु इकेला ॥२॥

Sanggi na saathee gavanu ikelaa ||2||

No one will accompany you there; you will have to go all alone. ||2||

ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦਰਦਵੰਦੁ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

दुखीआ दरदवंदु दरि आइआ ॥

Dukheeaa daradavanddu dari aaiaa ||

Suffering in pain, I have come to Your Door, O Compassionate Lord.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਆਸ ਜਬਾਬੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

बहुतु पिआस जबाबु न पाइआ ॥

Bahutu piaas jabaabu na paaiaa ||

I am so thirsty for You, but You do not answer me.

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥

कहि रविदास सरनि प्रभ तेरी ॥

Kahi ravidaas sarani prbh teree ||

Says Ravi Daas, I seek Your Sanctuary, God;

ਜਿਉ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਕਰੁ ਗਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੩॥੧॥

जिउ जानहु तिउ करु गति मेरी ॥३॥१॥

Jiu jaanahu tiu karu gati meree ||3||1||

As You know me, so will You save me. ||3||1||

Soohee:

ਜੋ ਦਿਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਸੋ ਦਿਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥

जो दिन आवहि सो दिन जाही ॥

Jo din aavahi so din jaahee ||

That day which comes, that day shall go.

ਕਰਨਾ ਕੂਚੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

करना कूचु रहनु थिरु नाही ॥

Karanaa koochu rahanu thiru naahee ||

You must march on; nothing remains stable.

ਸੰਗੁ ਚਲਤ ਹੈ ਹਮ ਭੀ ਚਲਨਾ ॥

संगु चलत है हम भी चलना ॥

Sanggu chalat hai ham bhee chalanaa ||

Our companions are leaving, and we must leave as well.

ਦੂਰਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਮਰਨਾ ॥੧॥

दूरि गवनु सिर ऊपरि मरना ॥१॥

Doori gavanu sir upari maranaa ||1||

We must go far away. Death is hovering over our heads. ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਤੂ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥

किआ तू सोइआ जागु इआना ॥

Kiaa too soiaa jaagu iaanaa ||

Why are you asleep? Wake up, you ignorant fool!

ਤੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਗਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तै जीवनु जगि सचु करि जाना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tai jeevanu jagi sachu kari jaanaa ||1|| rahaau ||

You believe that your life in the world is true. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਆ ਸੁ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਅੰਬਰਾਵੈ ॥

जिनि जीउ दीआ सु रिजकु अ्मबरावै ॥

Jini jeeu deeaa su rijaku ambbaraavai ||

The One who gave you life shall also provide you with nourishment.

ਸਭ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹਾਟੁ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥

सभ घट भीतरि हाटु चलावै ॥

Sabh ghat bheetari haatu chalaavai ||

In each and every heart, He runs His shop.

ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਿਗੀ ਛਾਡਿ ਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

करि बंदिगी छाडि मै मेरा ॥

Kari banddigee chhaadi mai meraa ||

Meditate on the Lord, and renounce your egotism and self-conceit.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥

हिरदै नामु सम्हारि सवेरा ॥२॥

Hiradai naamu samhaari saveraa ||2||

Within your heart, contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, sometime. ||2||

ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਨੋ ਪੰਥੁ ਨ ਸਵਾਰਾ ॥

जनमु सिरानो पंथु न सवारा ॥

Janamu siraano pantthu na savaaraa ||

Your life has passed away, but you have not arranged your path.

ਸਾਂਝ ਪਰੀ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥

सांझ परी दह दिस अंधिआरा ॥

Saanjh paree dah dis anddhiaaraa ||

Evening has set in, and soon there will be darkness on all sides.

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ਦਿਵਾਨੇ ॥

कहि रविदास निदानि दिवाने ॥

Kahi ravidaas nidaani divaane ||

Says Ravi Daas, O ignorant mad-man,

ਚੇਤਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਫਨ ਖਾਨੇ ॥੩॥੨॥

चेतसि नाही दुनीआ फन खाने ॥३॥२॥

Chetasi naahee duneeaa phan khaane ||3||2||

Don't you realize, that this world is the house of death?! ||3||2||

Soohee:

ਊਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਲ ਰਸੋਈ ॥

ऊचे मंदर साल रसोई ॥

Uche manddar saal rasoee ||

You may have lofty mansions, halls and kitchens.

ਏਕ ਘਰੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥

एक घरी फुनि रहनु न होई ॥१॥

Ek gharee phuni rahanu na hoee ||1||

But you cannot stay in them, even for an instant, after death. ||1||

ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਾਸ ਕੀ ਟਾਟੀ ॥

इहु तनु ऐसा जैसे घास की टाटी ॥

Ihu tanu aisaa jaise ghaas kee taatee ||

This body is like a house of straw.

ਜਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਘਾਸੁ ਰਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जलि गइओ घासु रलि गइओ माटी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jali gaio ghaasu rali gaio maatee ||1|| rahaau ||

When it is burnt, it mixes with dust. ||1|| Pause ||

ਭਾਈ ਬੰਧ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਹੇਰਾ ॥

भाई बंध कुट्मब सहेरा ॥

Bhaaee banddh kutambb saheraa ||

Even relatives, family and friends,

ਓਇ ਭੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਕਾਢੁ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥

ओइ भी लागे काढु सवेरा ॥२॥

Oi bhee laage kaadhu saveraa ||2||

begin to say, "Take his body out, immediately!"||2||

ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਉਰਹਿ ਤਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

घर की नारि उरहि तन लागी ॥

Ghar kee naari urahi tan laagee ||

And the wife of his house, who was so attached to his body and heart,

ਉਹ ਤਉ ਭੂਤੁ ਭੂਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੩॥

उह तउ भूतु भूतु करि भागी ॥३॥

Uh tau bhootu bhootu kari bhaagee ||3||

Runs away, crying out, ""Ghost! Ghost!"" ||3||

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਸਭੈ ਜਗੁ ਲੂਟਿਆ ॥

कहि रविदास सभै जगु लूटिआ ॥

Kahi ravidaas sabhai jagu lootiaa ||

Says Ravi Daas, the whole world has been plundered,

ਹਮ ਤਉ ਏਕ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਿ ਛੂਟਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥

हम तउ एक रामु कहि छूटिआ ॥४॥३॥

Ham tau ek raamu kahi chhootiaa ||4||3||

But I have escaped, chanting the Name of the One Lord. ||4||3||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

ਰਾਗੁ ਸੂਹੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਜੀ ਕੀ ॥

रागु सूही बाणी सेख फरीद जी की ॥

Raagu soohee baa(nn)ee sekh phareed jee kee ||

ਤਪਿ ਤਪਿ ਲੁਹਿ ਲੁਹਿ ਹਾਥ ਮਰੋਰਉ ॥

तपि तपि लुहि लुहि हाथ मरोरउ ॥

Tapi tapi luhi luhi haath marorau ||

Burning and burning, writhing in pain, I wring my hands.

ਬਾਵਲਿ ਹੋਈ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਲੋਰਉ ॥

बावलि होई सो सहु लोरउ ॥

Baavali hoee so sahu lorau ||

I have gone insane, seeking my Husband Lord.

ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਰੋਸੁ ॥

तै सहि मन महि कीआ रोसु ॥

Tai sahi man mahi keeaa rosu ||

O my Husband Lord, You are angry with me in Your Mind.

ਮੁਝੁ ਅਵਗਨ ਸਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੋਸੁ ॥੧॥

मुझु अवगन सह नाही दोसु ॥१॥

Mujhu avagan sah naahee dosu ||1||

The fault is with me, and not with my Husband Lord. ||1||

ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਮੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥

तै साहिब की मै सार न जानी ॥

Tai saahib kee mai saar na jaanee ||

O my Lord and Master, I do not know Your excellence and worth.

ਜੋਬਨੁ ਖੋਇ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जोबनु खोइ पाछै पछुतानी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jobanu khoi paachhai pachhutaanee ||1|| rahaau ||

Having wasted my youth, now I come to regret and repent. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਾਲੀ ਕੋਇਲ ਤੂ ਕਿਤ ਗੁਨ ਕਾਲੀ ॥

काली कोइल तू कित गुन काली ॥

Kaalee koil too kit gun kaalee ||

O black bird, what qualities have made you black?

ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੇ ਹਉ ਬਿਰਹੈ ਜਾਲੀ ॥

अपने प्रीतम के हउ बिरहै जाली ॥

Apane preetam ke hau birahai jaalee ||

"I have been burnt by separation from my Beloved."

ਪਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਕਤਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

पिरहि बिहून कतहि सुखु पाए ॥

Pirahi bihoon katahi sukhu paae ||

Without her Husband Lord, how can the soul-bride ever find peace?

ਜਾ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥

जा होइ क्रिपालु ता प्रभू मिलाए ॥२॥

Jaa hoi kripaalu taa prbhoo milaae ||2||

When He becomes merciful, then God unites us with Himself. ||2||

ਵਿਧਣ ਖੂਹੀ ਮੁੰਧ ਇਕੇਲੀ ॥

विधण खूही मुंध इकेली ॥

Vidha(nn) khoohee munddh ikelee ||

The lonely soul-bride suffers in the pit of the world.

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ॥

ना को साथी ना को बेली ॥

Naa ko saathee naa ko belee ||

She has no companions, and no friends.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਲੀ ॥

करि किरपा प्रभि साधसंगि मेली ॥

Kari kirapaa prbhi saadhasanggi melee ||

In His Mercy, God has united me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਜਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਲਹੁ ਬੇਲੀ ॥੩॥

जा फिरि देखा ता मेरा अलहु बेली ॥३॥

Jaa phiri dekhaa taa meraa alahu belee ||3||

And when I look again, then I find God as my Helper. ||3||

ਵਾਟ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਖਰੀ ਉਡੀਣੀ ॥

वाट हमारी खरी उडीणी ॥

Vaat hamaaree kharee udee(nn)ee ||

The path upon which I must walk is very depressing.

ਖੰਨਿਅਹੁ ਤਿਖੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਈਣੀ ॥

खंनिअहु तिखी बहुतु पिईणी ॥

Khanniahu tikhee bahutu piee(nn)ee ||

It is sharper than a two-edged sword, and very narrow.

ਉਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੈ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

उसु ऊपरि है मारगु मेरा ॥

Usu upari hai maaragu meraa ||

That is where my path lies.

ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥

सेख फरीदा पंथु सम्हारि सवेरा ॥४॥१॥

Sekh phareedaa pantthu samhaari saveraa ||4||1||

O Shaykh Fareed, think of that path early on. ||4||1||
