ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਜੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਧਿਕ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

अवगणि मुठी जे फिरहि बधिक थाइ न पाहि जीउ ॥

Avaga(nn)i muthee je phirahi badhik thaai na paahi jeeu ||

If you are plundered by corruption and vice, you shall wander around, but like a fugitive, you shall find no place of rest.

ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

गुरि राखे से उबरे सबदि रते मन माहि जीउ ॥२॥

Guri raakhe se ubare sabadi rate man maahi jeeu ||2||

Only those who are protected by the Guru are saved; their minds are attuned to the Word of the Shabad. ||2||


ਚਿਟੇ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਮੈਲੇ ਚਿਤ ਕਠੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥

चिटे जिन के कपड़े मैले चित कठोर जीउ ॥

Chite jin ke kapa(rr)e maile chit kathor jeeu ||

Those who wear white clothes, but have filthy and stone-hearted minds,

ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਚੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥

तिन मुखि नामु न ऊपजै दूजै विआपे चोर जीउ ॥

Tin mukhi naamu na upajai doojai viaape chor jeeu ||

May chant the Lord's Name with their mouths, but they are engrossed in duality; they are thieves.

ਮੂਲੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪਸੂਆ ਸੇ ਢੋਰ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

मूलु न बूझहि आपणा से पसूआ से ढोर जीउ ॥३॥

Moolu na boojhahi aapa(nn)aa se pasooaa se dhor jeeu ||3||

They do not understand their own roots; they are beasts. They are just animals! ||3||


ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਮੰਗੈ ਸੁਖ ਜੀਉ ॥

नित नित खुसीआ मनु करे नित नित मंगै सुख जीउ ॥

Nit nit khuseeaa manu kare nit nit manggai sukh jeeu ||

Constantly, continually, the mortal seeks pleasures. Constantly, continually, he begs for peace.

ਕਰਤਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਗਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਜੀਉ ॥

करता चिति न आवई फिरि फिरि लगहि दुख जीउ ॥

Karataa chiti na aavaee phiri phiri lagahi dukh jeeu ||

But he does not think of the Creator Lord, and so he is overtaken by pain, again and again.

ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਕੈਸੀ ਭੁਖ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥

सुख दुख दाता मनि वसै तितु तनि कैसी भुख जीउ ॥४॥

Sukh dukh daataa mani vasai titu tani kaisee bhukh jeeu ||4||

But one, within whose mind the Giver of pleasure and pain dwells - how can his body feel any need? ||4||


ਬਾਕੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਲਬੀਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

बाकी वाला तलबीऐ सिरि मारे जंदारु जीउ ॥

Baakee vaalaa talabeeai siri maare janddaaru jeeu ||

One who has a karmic debt to pay off is summoned, and the Messenger of Death smashes his head.

ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਦੇਵਣਾ ਪੁਛੈ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

लेखा मंगै देवणा पुछै करि बीचारु जीउ ॥

Lekhaa manggai deva(nn)aa puchhai kari beechaaru jeeu ||

When his account is called for, it has to be given. After it is reviewed, payment is demanded.

ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਉਬਰੈ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥

सचे की लिव उबरै बखसे बखसणहारु जीउ ॥५॥

Sache kee liv ubarai bakhase bakhasa(nn)ahaaru jeeu ||5||

Only love for the True One will save you; the Forgiver forgives. ||5||


ਅਨ ਕੋ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਿਤੜਾ ਖਾਕੁ ਰਲੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

अन को कीजै मितड़ा खाकु रलै मरि जाइ जीउ ॥

An ko keejai mita(rr)aa khaaku ralai mari jaai jeeu ||

If you make any friend other than God, you shall die and mingle with the dust.

ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਭੁਲਿ ਭੁਲਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

बहु रंग देखि भुलाइआ भुलि भुलि आवै जाइ जीउ ॥

Bahu rangg dekhi bhulaaiaa bhuli bhuli aavai jaai jeeu ||

Gazing upon the many games of love, you are beguiled and bewildered; you come and go in reincarnation.

ਨਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥

नदरि प्रभू ते छुटीऐ नदरी मेलि मिलाइ जीउ ॥६॥

Nadari prbhoo te chhuteeai nadaree meli milaai jeeu ||6||

Only by God's Grace can you be saved. By His Grace, He unites in His Union. ||6||


ਗਾਫਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

गाफल गिआन विहूणिआ गुर बिनु गिआनु न भालि जीउ ॥

Gaaphal giaan vihoo(nn)iaa gur binu giaanu na bhaali jeeu ||

O careless one, you are totally lacking any wisdom; do not seek wisdom without the Guru.

ਖਿੰਚੋਤਾਣਿ ਵਿਗੁਚੀਐ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਦੁਇ ਨਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

खिंचोताणि विगुचीऐ बुरा भला दुइ नालि जीउ ॥

Khincchotaa(nn)i vigucheeai buraa bhalaa dui naali jeeu ||

By indecision and inner conflict, you shall come to ruin. Good and bad both pull at you.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭੈ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਭ ਜੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥

बिनु सबदै भै रतिआ सभ जोही जमकालि जीउ ॥७॥

Binu sabadai bhai ratiaa sabh johee jamakaali jeeu ||7||

Without being attuned to the Word of the Shabad and the Fear of God, all come under the gaze of the Messenger of Death. ||7||


ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇਇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

जिनि करि कारणु धारिआ सभसै देइ आधारु जीउ ॥

Jini kari kaara(nn)u dhaariaa sabhasai dei aadhaaru jeeu ||

He who created the creation and sustains it, gives sustenance to all.

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

सो किउ मनहु विसारीऐ सदा सदा दातारु जीउ ॥

So kiu manahu visaareeai sadaa sadaa daataaru jeeu ||

How can you forget Him from your mind? He is the Great Giver, forever and ever.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥

नानक नामु न वीसरै निधारा आधारु जीउ ॥८॥१॥२॥

Naanak naamu na veesarai nidhaaraa aadhaaru jeeu ||8||1||2||

Nanak shall never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Support of the unsupported. ||8||1||2||

सूही महला १ ॥

Soohee mahalaa 1 ||

Soohee, First Mehl:

ਜਿਉ ਆਰਣਿ ਲੋਹਾ ਪਾਇ ਭੰਨਿ ਘੜਾਈਐ ॥

जिउ आरणि लोहा पाइ भंनि घड़ाईऐ ॥

Jiu aara(nn)i lohaa paai bhanni gha(rr)aaeeai ||

As iron is melted in the forge and re-shaped,

ਤਿਉ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਇ ਭਵੈ ਭਵਾਈਐ ॥੧॥

तिउ साकतु जोनी पाइ भवै भवाईऐ ॥१॥

Tiu saakatu jonee paai bhavai bhavaaeeai ||1||

So is the godless materialist reincarnated, and forced to wander aimlessly. ||1||


ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ॥

बिनु बूझे सभु दुखु दुखु कमावणा ॥

Binu boojhe sabhu dukhu dukhu kamaava(nn)aa ||

Without understanding, everything is suffering, earning only more suffering.

ਹਉਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਵਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हउमै आवै जाइ भरमि भुलावणा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Haumai aavai jaai bharami bhulaava(nn)aa ||1|| rahaau ||

In his ego, he comes and goes, wandering in confusion, deluded by doubt. ||1|| Pause ||


ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਖਣਹਾਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥

तूं गुरमुखि रखणहारु हरि नामु धिआईऐ ॥

Toonn guramukhi rakha(nn)ahaaru hari naamu dhiaaeeai ||

You save those who are Gurmukh, O Lord, through meditation on Your Naam.

ਮੇਲਹਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਰਜਾਇ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

मेलहि तुझहि रजाइ सबदु कमाईऐ ॥२॥

Melahi tujhahi rajaai sabadu kamaaeeai ||2||

You blend with Yourself, by Your Will, those who practice the Word of the Shabad. ||2||


ਤੂੰ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

तूं करि करि वेखहि आपि देहि सु पाईऐ ॥

Toonn kari kari vekhahi aapi dehi su paaeeai ||

You created the Creation, and You Yourself gaze upon it; whatever You give, is received.

ਤੂ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਦਰਿ ਬੀਨਾਈਐ ॥੩॥

तू देखहि थापि उथापि दरि बीनाईऐ ॥३॥

Too dekhahi thaapi uthaapi dari beenaaeeai ||3||

You watch, establish and disestablish; You keep all in Your vision at Your Door. ||3||


ਦੇਹੀ ਹੋਵਗਿ ਖਾਕੁ ਪਵਣੁ ਉਡਾਈਐ ॥

देही होवगि खाकु पवणु उडाईऐ ॥

Dehee hovagi khaaku pava(nn)u udaaeeai ||

The body shall turn to dust, and the soul shall fly away.

ਇਹੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਘਰੁ ਅਉਤਾਕੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥

इहु किथै घरु अउताकु महलु न पाईऐ ॥४॥

Ihu kithai gharu autaaku mahalu na paaeeai ||4||

So where are their homes and resting places now? They do not find the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, either. ||4||


ਦਿਹੁ ਦੀਵੀ ਅੰਧ ਘੋਰੁ ਘਬੁ ਮੁਹਾਈਐ ॥

दिहु दीवी अंध घोरु घबु मुहाईऐ ॥

Dihu deevee anddh ghoru ghabu muhaaeeai ||

In the pitch darkness of broad daylight, their wealth is being plundered.

ਗਰਬਿ ਮੁਸੈ ਘਰੁ ਚੋਰੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਰੂਆਈਐ ॥੫॥

गरबि मुसै घरु चोरु किसु रूआईऐ ॥५॥

Garabi musai gharu choru kisu rooaaeeai ||5||

Pride is looting their homes like a thief; where can they file their complaint? ||5||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚੋਰੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਜਗਾਈਐ ॥

गुरमुखि चोरु न लागि हरि नामि जगाईऐ ॥

Guramukhi choru na laagi hari naami jagaaeeai ||

The thief does not break into the home of the Gurmukh; he is awake in the Name of the Lord.

ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਆਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੀਪਾਈਐ ॥੬॥

सबदि निवारी आगि जोति दीपाईऐ ॥६॥

Sabadi nivaaree aagi joti deepaaeeai ||6||

The Word of the Shabad puts out the fire of desire; God's Light illuminates and enlightens. ||6||


ਲਾਲੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਈਐ ॥

लालु रतनु हरि नामु गुरि सुरति बुझाईऐ ॥

Laalu ratanu hari naamu guri surati bujhaaeeai ||

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a jewel, a ruby; the Guru has taught me the Word of the Shabad.

ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਹਕਾਮੁ ਜੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੭॥

सदा रहै निहकामु जे गुरमति पाईऐ ॥७॥

Sadaa rahai nihakaamu je guramati paaeeai ||7||

One who follows the Guru's Teachings remains forever free of desire. ||7||


ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈਐ ॥

राति दिहै हरि नाउ मंनि वसाईऐ ॥

Raati dihai hari naau manni vasaaeeai ||

Night and day, enshrine the Lord's Name within your mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਈਐ ॥੮॥੨॥੪॥

नानक मेलि मिलाइ जे तुधु भाईऐ ॥८॥२॥४॥

Naanak meli milaai je tudhu bhaaeeai ||8||2||4||

Please unite Nanak in Union, O Lord, if it is pleasing to Your Will. ||8||2||4||


ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Soohee mahalaa 1 ||

Soohee, First Mehl:

ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥

मनहु न नामु विसारि अहिनिसि धिआईऐ ॥

Manahu na naamu visaari ahinisi dhiaaeeai ||

Never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, from your mind; night and day, meditate on it.

ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥

जिउ राखहि किरपा धारि तिवै सुखु पाईऐ ॥१॥

Jiu raakhahi kirapaa dhaari tivai sukhu paaeeai ||1||

As You keep me, in Your Merciful Grace, so do I find peace. ||1||


ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਕੁਟੀ ਟੋਹਣੀ ॥

मै अंधुले हरि नामु लकुटी टोहणी ॥

Mai anddhule hari naamu lakutee toha(nn)ee ||

I am blind, and the Lord's Name is my cane.

ਰਹਉ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਨ ਮੋਹੈ ਮੋਹਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

रहउ साहिब की टेक न मोहै मोहणी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Rahau saahib kee tek na mohai moha(nn)ee ||1|| rahaau ||

I remain under the Sheltering Support of my Lord and Master; I am not enticed by Maya the enticer. ||1|| Pause ||


ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਲਿਆ ॥

जह देखउ तह नालि गुरि देखालिआ ॥

Jah dekhau tah naali guri dekhaaliaa ||

Wherever I look, there the Guru has shown me that God is always with me.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥੨॥

अंतरि बाहरि भालि सबदि निहालिआ ॥२॥

Anttari baahari bhaali sabadi nihaaliaa ||2||

Searching inwardly and outwardly as well, I came to see Him, through the Word of the Shabad. ||2||


ਸੇਵੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥

सेवी सतिगुर भाइ नामु निरंजना ॥

Sevee satigur bhaai naamu niranjjanaa ||

So serve the True Guru with love, through the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਜਾਇ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨਾ ॥੩॥

तुधु भावै तिवै रजाइ भरमु भउ भंजना ॥३॥

Tudhu bhaavai tivai rajaai bharamu bhau bhanjjanaa ||3||

As it pleases You, so by Your Will, You destroy my doubts and fears. ||3||


ਜਨਮਤ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਰਣਾ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥

जनमत ही दुखु लागै मरणा आइ कै ॥

Janamat hee dukhu laagai mara(nn)aa aai kai ||

At the very moment of birth, he is afflicted with pain, and in the end, he comes only to die.

ਜਨਮੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੪॥

जनमु मरणु परवाणु हरि गुण गाइ कै ॥४॥

Janamu mara(nn)u paravaa(nn)u hari gu(nn) gaai kai ||4||

Birth and death are validated and approved, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||


ਹਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੂ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤੁਧ ਹੀ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥

हउ नाही तू होवहि तुध ही साजिआ ॥

Hau naahee too hovahi tudh hee saajiaa ||

When there is no ego, there You are; You fashioned all of this.

ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ॥੫॥

आपे थापि उथापि सबदि निवाजिआ ॥५॥

Aape thaapi uthaapi sabadi nivaajiaa ||5||

You Yourself establish and disestablish; through the Word of Your Shabad, You elevate and exalt. ||5||


ਦੇਹੀ ਭਸਮ ਰੁਲਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਪੀ ਕਹ ਗਇਆ ॥

देही भसम रुलाइ न जापी कह गइआ ॥

Dehee bhasam rulaai na jaapee kah gaiaa ||

When the body rolls in the dust, it is not known where the soul has gone.

ਆਪੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ਸੋ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੬॥

आपे रहिआ समाइ सो विसमादु भइआ ॥६॥

Aape rahiaa samaai so visamaadu bhaiaa ||6||

He Himself is permeating and pervading; this is wonderful and amazing! ||6||


ਤੂੰ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੂਰਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੂ ਹੈ ॥

तूं नाही प्रभ दूरि जाणहि सभ तू है ॥

Toonn naahee prbh doori jaa(nn)ahi sabh too hai ||

You are not far away, God; You know everything.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੀ ਤੂ ਹੈ ॥੭॥

गुरमुखि वेखि हदूरि अंतरि भी तू है ॥७॥

Guramukhi vekhi hadoori anttari bhee too hai ||7||

The Gurmukh sees You ever-present; You are deep within the nucleus of our inner self. ||7||


ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

मै दीजै नाम निवासु अंतरि सांति होइ ॥

Mai deejai naam nivaasu anttari saanti hoi ||

Please, bless me with a home in Your Name; may my inner self be at peace.

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥੮॥੩॥੫॥

गुण गावै नानक दासु सतिगुरु मति देइ ॥८॥३॥५॥

Gu(nn) gaavai naanak daasu satiguru mati dei ||8||3||5||

May slave Nanak sing Your Glorious Praises; O True Guru, please share the Teachings with me. ||8||3||5||

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਨਾਮੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥

नामै ही ते सभु किछु होआ बिनु सतिगुर नामु न जापै ॥

Naamai hee te sabhu kichhu hoaa binu satigur naamu na jaapai ||

Everything comes from the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the True Guru, the Naam is not experienced.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥

गुर का सबदु महा रसु मीठा बिनु चाखे सादु न जापै ॥

Gur kaa sabadu mahaa rasu meethaa binu chaakhe saadu na jaapai ||

The Word of the Guru's Shabad is the sweetest and most sublime essence, but without tasting it, its flavor cannot be experienced.

ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਪੈ ॥

कउडी बदलै जनमु गवाइआ चीनसि नाही आपै ॥

Kaudee badalai janamu gavaaiaa cheenasi naahee aapai ||

He wastes this human life in exchange for a mere shell; he does not understand his own self.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥੧॥

गुरमुखि होवै ता एको जाणै हउमै दुखु न संतापै ॥१॥

Guramukhi hovai taa eko jaa(nn)ai haumai dukhu na santtaapai ||1||

But, if he becomes Gurmukh, then he comes to know the One Lord, and the disease of egotism does not afflict him. ||1||


ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪਣੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥

बलिहारी गुर अपणे विटहु जिनि साचे सिउ लिव लाई ॥

Balihaaree gur apa(nn)e vitahu jini saache siu liv laaee ||

I am a sacrifice to my Guru, who has lovingly attached me to the True Lord.

ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨੑਿ ਆਤਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सबदु चीन्हि आतमु परगासिआ सहजे रहिआ समाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sabadu cheenhi aatamu paragaasiaa sahaje rahiaa samaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Concentrating on the Word of the Shabad, the soul is illumined and enlightened. I remain absorbed in celestial ecstasy. ||1|| Pause ||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

गुरमुखि गावै गुरमुखि बूझै गुरमुखि सबदु बीचारे ॥

Guramukhi gaavai guramukhi boojhai guramukhi sabadu beechaare ||

The Gurmukh sings the Praises of the Lord; the Gurmukh understands. The Gurmukh contemplates the Word of the Shabad.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

जीउ पिंडु सभु गुर ते उपजै गुरमुखि कारज सवारे ॥

Jeeu pinddu sabhu gur te upajai guramukhi kaaraj savaare ||

Body and soul are totally rejuvenated through the Guru; the Gurmukh's affairs are resolved in his favor.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥

मनमुखि अंधा अंधु कमावै बिखु खटे संसारे ॥

Manamukhi anddhaa anddhu kamaavai bikhu khate sanssaare ||

The blind self-willed manmukh acts blindly, and earns only poison in this world.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੨॥

माइआ मोहि सदा दुखु पाए बिनु गुर अति पिआरे ॥२॥

Maaiaa mohi sadaa dukhu paae binu gur ati piaare ||2||

Enticed by Maya, he suffers in constant pain, without the most Beloved Guru. ||2||


ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਚਾਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥

सोई सेवकु जे सतिगुर सेवे चालै सतिगुर भाए ॥

Soee sevaku je satigur seve chaalai satigur bhaae ||

He alone is a selfless servant, who serves the True Guru, and walks in harmony with the True Guru's Will.

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

साचा सबदु सिफति है साची साचा मंनि वसाए ॥

Saachaa sabadu siphati hai saachee saachaa manni vasaae ||

The True Shabad, the Word of God, is the True Praise of God; enshrine the True Lord within your mind.

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਏ ॥

सची बाणी गुरमुखि आखै हउमै विचहु जाए ॥

Sachee baa(nn)ee guramukhi aakhai haumai vichahu jaae ||

The Gurmukh speaks the True Word of Gurbani, and egotism departs from within.

ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੩॥

आपे दाता करमु है साचा साचा सबदु सुणाए ॥३॥

Aape daataa karamu hai saachaa saachaa sabadu su(nn)aae ||3||

He Himself is the Giver, and True are His actions. He proclaims the True Word of the Shabad. ||3||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖਟੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਏ ॥

गुरमुखि घाले गुरमुखि खटे गुरमुखि नामु जपाए ॥

Guramukhi ghaale guramukhi khate guramukhi naamu japaae ||

The Gurmukh works, and the Gurmukh earns; the Gurmukh inspires others to chant the Naam.

ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥

सदा अलिपतु साचै रंगि राता गुर कै सहजि सुभाए ॥

Sadaa alipatu saachai ranggi raataa gur kai sahaji subhaae ||

He is forever unattached, imbued with the Love of the True Lord, intuitively in harmony with the Guru.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਕੂੜੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਬੀਜੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਏ ॥

मनमुखु सद ही कूड़ो बोलै बिखु बीजै बिखु खाए ॥

Manamukhu sad hee koo(rr)o bolai bikhu beejai bikhu khaae ||

The self-willed manmukh always tells lies; he plants the seeds of poison, and eats only poison.

ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਧਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਵਣੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥੪॥

जमकालि बाधा त्रिसना दाधा बिनु गुर कवणु छडाए ॥४॥

Jamakaali baadhaa trisanaa daadhaa binu gur kava(nn)u chhadaae ||4||

He is bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death, and burnt in the fire of desire; who can save him, except the Guru? ||4||


ਸਚਾ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥

सचा तीरथु जितु सत सरि नावणु गुरमुखि आपि बुझाए ॥

Sachaa teerathu jitu sat sari naava(nn)u guramukhi aapi bujhaae ||

True is that place of pilgrimage, where one bathes in the pool of Truth, and achieves self-realization as Gurmukh. The Gurmukh understands his own self.

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਨਾਤੈ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥

अठसठि तीरथ गुर सबदि दिखाए तितु नातै मलु जाए ॥

Athasathi teerath gur sabadi dikhaae titu naatai malu jaae ||

The Lord has shown that the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage; bathing in it, filth is washed away.

ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਮਲੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥

सचा सबदु सचा है निरमलु ना मलु लगै न लाए ॥

Sachaa sabadu sachaa hai niramalu naa malu lagai na laae ||

True and Immaculate is the True Word of His Shabad; no filth touches or clings to Him.

ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥

सची सिफति सची सालाह पूरे गुर ते पाए ॥५॥

Sachee siphati sachee saalaah poore gur te paae ||5||

True Praise, True Devotional Praise, is obtained from the Perfect Guru. ||5||


ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥

तनु मनु सभु किछु हरि तिसु केरा दुरमति कहणु न जाए ॥

Tanu manu sabhu kichhu hari tisu keraa duramati kaha(nn)u na jaae ||

Body, mind, everything belongs to the Lord; but the evil-minded ones cannot even say this.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਏ ॥

हुकमु होवै ता निरमलु होवै हउमै विचहु जाए ॥

Hukamu hovai taa niramalu hovai haumai vichahu jaae ||

If such is the Hukam of the Lord's Command, then one becomes pure and spotless, and the ego is taken away from within.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਚਾਖੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥

गुर की साखी सहजे चाखी त्रिसना अगनि बुझाए ॥

Gur kee saakhee sahaje chaakhee trisanaa agani bujhaae ||

I have intuitively tasted the Guru's Teachings, and the fire of my desire has been quenched.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੬॥

गुर कै सबदि राता सहजे माता सहजे रहिआ समाए ॥६॥

Gur kai sabadi raataa sahaje maataa sahaje rahiaa samaae ||6||

Attuned to the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one is naturally intoxicated, merging imperceptibly into the Lord. ||6||


ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

हरि का नामु सति करि जाणै गुर कै भाइ पिआरे ॥

Hari kaa naamu sati kari jaa(nn)ai gur kai bhaai piaare ||

The Name of the Lord is known as True, through the Love of the Beloved Guru.

ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

सची वडिआई गुर ते पाई सचै नाइ पिआरे ॥

Sachee vadiaaee gur te paaee sachai naai piaare ||

True Glorious Greatness is obtained from the Guru, through the Beloved True Name.

ਏਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

एको सचा सभ महि वरतै विरला को वीचारे ॥

Eko sachaa sabh mahi varatai viralaa ko veechaare ||

The One True Lord is permeating and pervading among all; how rare is the one who contemplates this.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਤਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੭॥

आपे मेलि लए ता बखसे सची भगति सवारे ॥७॥

Aape meli lae taa bakhase sachee bhagati savaare ||7||

The Lord Himself unites us in Union, and forgives us; He embellishes us with true devotional worship. ||7||


ਸਭੋ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

सभो सचु सचु सचु वरतै गुरमुखि कोई जाणै ॥

Sabho sachu sachu sachu varatai guramukhi koee jaa(nn)ai ||

All is Truth; Truth, and Truth alone is pervading; how rare is the Gurmukh who knows this.

ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੁਕਮੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥

जमण मरणा हुकमो वरतै गुरमुखि आपु पछाणै ॥

Jamma(nn) mara(nn)aa hukamo varatai guramukhi aapu pachhaa(nn)ai ||

Birth and death occur by the Hukam of His Command; the Gurmukh understands his own self.

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭਾਏ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

नामु धिआए ता सतिगुरु भाए जो इछै सो फलु पाए ॥

Naamu dhiaae taa satiguru bhaae jo ichhai so phalu paae ||

He meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and so pleases the True Guru. He receives whatever rewards he desires.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੮॥੧॥

नानक तिस दा सभु किछु होवै जि विचहु आपु गवाए ॥८॥१॥

Naanak tis daa sabhu kichhu hovai ji vichahu aapu gavaae ||8||1||

O Nanak, one who eradicates self-conceit from within, has everything. ||8||1||

Soohee, Third Mehl:

ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਅਤਿ ਸੁਆਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਉ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

काइआ कामणि अति सुआल्हिउ पिरु वसै जिसु नाले ॥

Kaaiaa kaama(nn)i ati suaalhiu piru vasai jisu naale ||

The body-bride is very beautiful; she dwells with her Husband Lord.

ਪਿਰ ਸਚੇ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ॥

पिर सचे ते सदा सुहागणि गुर का सबदु सम्हाले ॥

Pir sache te sadaa suhaaga(nn)i gur kaa sabadu samhaale ||

She becomes the happy soul-bride of her True Husband Lord, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਲੇ ॥੧॥

हरि की भगति सदा रंगि राता हउमै विचहु जाले ॥१॥

Hari kee bhagati sadaa ranggi raataa haumai vichahu jaale ||1||

The Lord's devotee is forever attuned to the Lord's Love; her ego is burnt away from within. ||1||


ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

वाहु वाहु पूरे गुर की बाणी ॥

Vaahu vaahu poore gur kee baa(nn)ee ||

Waaho! Waaho! Blessed, blessed is the Word of the Perfect Guru's Bani.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

पूरे गुर ते उपजी साचि समाणी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Poore gur te upajee saachi samaa(nn)ee ||1|| rahaau ||

It wells up and springs forth from the Perfect Guru, and merges into Truth. ||1|| Pause ||


ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸੈ ਖੰਡ ਮੰਡਲ ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ॥

काइआ अंदरि सभु किछु वसै खंड मंडल पाताला ॥

Kaaiaa anddari sabhu kichhu vasai khandd manddal paataalaa ||

Everything is within the Lord - the continents, worlds and nether regions.

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਵਸੈ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥

काइआ अंदरि जगजीवन दाता वसै सभना करे प्रतिपाला ॥

Kaaiaa anddari jagajeevan daataa vasai sabhanaa kare prtipaalaa ||

The Life of the World, the Great Giver, dwells within the body; He is the Cherisher of all.

ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਾ ॥੨॥

काइआ कामणि सदा सुहेली गुरमुखि नामु सम्हाला ॥२॥

Kaaiaa kaama(nn)i sadaa suhelee guramukhi naamu samhaalaa ||2||

The body-bride is eternally beautiful; the Gurmukh contemplates the Naam. ||2||


ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵਸੈ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥

काइआ अंदरि आपे वसै अलखु न लखिआ जाई ॥

Kaaiaa anddari aape vasai alakhu na lakhiaa jaaee ||

The Lord Himself dwells within the body; He is invisible and cannot be seen.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਣਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

मनमुखु मुगधु बूझै नाही बाहरि भालणि जाई ॥

Manamukhu mugadhu boojhai naahee baahari bhaala(nn)i jaaee ||

The foolish self-willed manmukh does not understand; he goes out searching for the Lord externally.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਲਖਾਈ ॥੩॥

सतिगुरु सेवे सदा सुखु पाए सतिगुरि अलखु दिता लखाई ॥३॥

Satiguru seve sadaa sukhu paae satiguri alakhu ditaa lakhaaee ||3||

One who serves the True Guru is always at peace; the True Guru has shown me the Invisible Lord. ||3||


ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

काइआ अंदरि रतन पदारथ भगति भरे भंडारा ॥

Kaaiaa anddari ratan padaarath bhagati bhare bhanddaaraa ||

Within the body there are jewels and precious treasures, the over-flowing treasure of devotion.

ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਉ ਖੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਹਾਟ ਪਟਣ ਬਾਜਾਰਾ ॥

इसु काइआ अंदरि नउ खंड प्रिथमी हाट पटण बाजारा ॥

Isu kaaiaa anddari nau khandd prithamee haat pata(nn) baajaaraa ||

Within this body are the nine continents of the earth, its markets, cities and streets.

ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥

इसु काइआ अंदरि नामु नउ निधि पाईऐ गुर कै सबदि वीचारा ॥४॥

Isu kaaiaa anddari naamu nau nidhi paaeeai gur kai sabadi veechaaraa ||4||

Within this body are the nine treasures of the Naam; contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is obtained. ||4||


ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੁਲਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

काइआ अंदरि तोलि तुलावै आपे तोलणहारा ॥

Kaaiaa anddari toli tulaavai aape tola(nn)ahaaraa ||

Within the body, the Lord estimates the weight; He Himself is the weigher.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ॥

इहु मनु रतनु जवाहर माणकु तिस का मोलु अफारा ॥

Ihu manu ratanu javaahar maa(nn)aku tis kaa molu aphaaraa ||

This mind is the jewel, the gem, the diamond; it is absolutely priceless.

ਮੋਲਿ ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੫॥

मोलि कित ही नामु पाईऐ नाही नामु पाईऐ गुर बीचारा ॥५॥

Moli kit hee naamu paaeeai naahee naamu paaeeai gur beechaaraa ||5||

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, cannot be purchased at any price; the Naam is obtained by contemplating the Guru. ||5||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਖੋਜੈ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥

गुरमुखि होवै सु काइआ खोजै होर सभ भरमि भुलाई ॥

Guramukhi hovai su kaaiaa khojai hor sabh bharami bhulaaee ||

One who becomes Gurmukh searches this body; all others just wander around in confusion.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥

जिस नो देइ सोई जनु पावै होर किआ को करे चतुराई ॥

Jis no dei soee janu paavai hor kiaa ko kare chaturaaee ||

That humble being alone obtains it, unto whom the Lord bestows it. What other clever tricks can anyone try?

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੬॥

काइआ अंदरि भउ भाउ वसै गुर परसादी पाई ॥६॥

Kaaiaa anddari bhau bhaau vasai gur parasaadee paaee ||6||

Within the body, the Fear of God and Love for Him abides; by Guru's Grace, they are obtained. ||6||


ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ਸਭ ਓਪਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

काइआ अंदरि ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसा सभ ओपति जितु संसारा ॥

Kaaiaa anddari brhamaa bisanu mahesaa sabh opati jitu sanssaaraa ||

Within the body, are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, from whom the whole world emanated.

ਸਚੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥

सचै आपणा खेलु रचाइआ आवा गउणु पासारा ॥

Sachai aapa(nn)aa khelu rachaaiaa aavaa gau(nn)u paasaaraa ||

The True Lord has staged and contrived His own play; the expanse of the Universe comes and goes.

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੭॥

पूरै सतिगुरि आपि दिखाइआ सचि नामि निसतारा ॥७॥

Poorai satiguri aapi dikhaaiaa sachi naami nisataaraa ||7||

The Perfect True Guru Himself has made it clear, that emancipation comes through the True Name. ||7||


ਸਾ ਕਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥

सा काइआ जो सतिगुरु सेवै सचै आपि सवारी ॥

Saa kaaiaa jo satiguru sevai sachai aapi savaaree ||

That body, which serves the True Guru, is embellished by the True Lord Himself.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਾ ਜਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥

विणु नावै दरि ढोई नाही ता जमु करे खुआरी ॥

Vi(nn)u naavai dari dhoee naahee taa jamu kare khuaaree ||

Without the Name, the mortal finds no place of rest in the Court of the Lord; he shall be tortured by the Messenger of Death.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੨॥

नानक सचु वडिआई पाए जिस नो हरि किरपा धारी ॥८॥२॥

Naanak sachu vadiaaee paae jis no hari kirapaa dhaaree ||8||2||

O Nanak, true glory is bestowed, when the Lord showers His Mercy. ||8||2||

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਵੰਞਸੀ ॥

दुनीआ न सालाहि जो मरि वंञसी ॥

Duneeaa na saalaahi jo mari van(ny)asee ||

Do not praise the world; it shall simply pass away.

ਲੋਕਾ ਨ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਖਾਕੁ ਥੀਈ ॥੧॥

लोका न सालाहि जो मरि खाकु थीई ॥१॥

Lokaa na saalaahi jo mari khaaku theeee ||1||

Do not praise other people; they shall die and turn to dust. ||1||


ਵਾਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਵਾਹੁ ॥

वाहु मेरे साहिबा वाहु ॥

Vaahu mere saahibaa vaahu ||

Waaho! Waaho! Hail, hail to my Lord and Master.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमुखि सदा सलाहीऐ सचा वेपरवाहु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramukhi sadaa salaaheeai sachaa veparavaahu ||1|| rahaau ||

As Gurmukh, forever praise the One who is forever True, Independent and Carefree. ||1|| Pause ||


ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇਰੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਝਿ ਮਰੰਨਿ ॥

दुनीआ केरी दोसती मनमुख दझि मरंनि ॥

Duneeaa keree dosatee manamukh dajhi maranni ||

Making worldly friendships, the self-willed manmukhs burn and die.

ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਵੇਲਾ ਨ ਲਾਹੰਨਿ ॥੨॥

जम पुरि बधे मारीअहि वेला न लाहंनि ॥२॥

Jam puri badhe maareeahi velaa na laahanni ||2||

In the City of Death, they are bound and gagged and beaten; this opportunity shall never come again. ||2||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਕਾਰਥਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੰਨਿ ॥

गुरमुखि जनमु सकारथा सचै सबदि लगंनि ॥

Guramukhi janamu sakaarathaa sachai sabadi laganni ||

The lives of the Gurmukhs are fruitful and blessed; they are committed to the True Word of the Shabad.

ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥੩॥

आतम रामु प्रगासिआ सहजे सुखि रहंनि ॥३॥

Aatam raamu prgaasiaa sahaje sukhi rahanni ||3||

Their souls are illuminated by the Lord, and they dwell in peace and pleasure. ||3||


ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਰਚੰਨਿ ॥

गुर का सबदु विसारिआ दूजै भाइ रचंनि ॥

Gur kaa sabadu visaariaa doojai bhaai rachanni ||

Those who forget the Word of the Guru's Shabad are engrossed in the love of duality.

ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਫਿਰੰਨਿ ॥੪॥

तिसना भुख न उतरै अनदिनु जलत फिरंनि ॥४॥

Tisanaa bhukh na utarai anadinu jalat phiranni ||4||

Their hunger and thirst never leave them, and night and day, they wander around burning. ||4||


ਦੁਸਟਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਸੰਤਾ ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥

दुसटा नालि दोसती नालि संता वैरु करंनि ॥

Dusataa naali dosatee naali santtaa vairu karanni ||

Those who make friendships with the wicked, and harbor animosity to the Saints,

ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਿਉ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਡੋਬੰਨਿ ॥੫॥

आपि डुबे कुट्मब सिउ सगले कुल डोबंनि ॥५॥

Aapi dube kutambb siu sagale kul dobanni ||5||

Shall drown with their families, and their entire lineage shall be obliterated. ||5||


ਨਿੰਦਾ ਭਲੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥

निंदा भली किसै की नाही मनमुख मुगध करंनि ॥

Ninddaa bhalee kisai kee naahee manamukh mugadh karanni ||

It is not good to slander anyone, but the foolish, self-willed manmukhs still do it.

ਮੁਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਨਰਕੇ ਘੋਰਿ ਪਵੰਨਿ ॥੬॥

मुह काले तिन निंदका नरके घोरि पवंनि ॥६॥

Muh kaale tin ninddakaa narake ghori pavanni ||6||

The faces of the slanderers turn black, and they fall into the most horrible hell. ||6||


ਏ ਮਨ ਜੈਸਾ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

ए मन जैसा सेवहि तैसा होवहि तेहे करम कमाइ ॥

E man jaisaa sevahi taisaa hovahi tehe karam kamaai ||

O mind, as you serve, so do you become, and so are the deeds that you do.

ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਵਣਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥

आपि बीजि आपे ही खावणा कहणा किछू न जाइ ॥७॥

Aapi beeji aape hee khaava(nn)aa kaha(nn)aa kichhoo na jaai ||7||

Whatever you yourself plant, that is what you shall have to eat; nothing else can be said about this. ||7||


ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਪਰਥਾਇ ॥

महा पुरखा का बोलणा होवै कितै परथाइ ॥

Mahaa purakhaa kaa bola(nn)aa hovai kitai parathaai ||

The speech of the great spiritual beings has a higher purpose.

ਓਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਰੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹਹਿ ਓਨਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੮॥

ओइ अम्रित भरे भरपूर हहि ओना तिलु न तमाइ ॥८॥

Oi ammmrit bhare bharapoor hahi onaa tilu na tamaai ||8||

They are filled to over-flowing with Ambrosial Nectar, and they have absolutely no greed at all. ||8||


ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਘਰੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਉਪਦੇਸੇਨਿ ॥

गुणकारी गुण संघरै अवरा उपदेसेनि ॥

Gu(nn)akaaree gu(nn) sanggharai avaraa upadeseni ||

The virtuous accumulate virtue, and teach others.

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਓਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏਨਿ ॥੯॥

से वडभागी जि ओना मिलि रहे अनदिनु नामु लएनि ॥९॥

Se vadabhaagee ji onaa mili rahe anadinu naamu laeni ||9||

Those who meet with them are so very fortunate; night and day, they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||9||


ਦੇਸੀ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਮੇਦਨੀ ॥

देसी रिजकु स्मबाहि जिनि उपाई मेदनी ॥

Desee rijaku sambbaahi jini upaaee medanee ||

He who created the Universe, gives sustenance to it.

ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਧਣੀ ॥੧੦॥

एको है दातारु सचा आपि धणी ॥१०॥

Eko hai daataaru sachaa aapi dha(nn)ee ||10||

The One Lord alone is the Great Giver. He Himself is the True Master. ||10||


ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥

सो सचु तेरै नालि है गुरमुखि नदरि निहालि ॥

So sachu terai naali hai guramukhi nadari nihaali ||

That True Lord is always with you; the Gurmukh is blessed with His Glance of Grace.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧੧॥

आपे बखसे मेलि लए सो प्रभु सदा समालि ॥११॥

Aape bakhase meli lae so prbhu sadaa samaali ||11||

He Himself shall forgive you, and merge you into Himself; forever cherish and contemplate God. ||11||


ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

मनु मैला सचु निरमला किउ करि मिलिआ जाइ ॥

Manu mailaa sachu niramalaa kiu kari miliaa jaai ||

The mind is impure; only the True Lord is pure. So how can it merge into Him?

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੧੨॥

प्रभु मेले ता मिलि रहै हउमै सबदि जलाइ ॥१२॥

Prbhu mele taa mili rahai haumai sabadi jalaai ||12||

God merges it into Himself, and then it remains merged; through the Word of His Shabad, the ego is burnt away. ||12||


ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥

सो सहु सचा वीसरै ध्रिगु जीवणु संसारि ॥

So sahu sachaa veesarai dhrigu jeeva(nn)u sanssaari ||

Cursed is the life in this world, of one who forgets her True Husband Lord.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧੩॥

नदरि करे ना वीसरै गुरमती वीचारि ॥१३॥

Nadari kare naa veesarai guramatee veechaari ||13||

The Lord grants His Mercy, and she does not forget Him, if she contemplates the Guru's Teachings. ||13||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਖਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

सतिगुरु मेले ता मिलि रहा साचु रखा उर धारि ॥

Satiguru mele taa mili rahaa saachu rakhaa ur dhaari ||

The True Guru unites her, and so she remains united with Him, with the True Lord enshrined within her heart.

ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧੪॥

मिलिआ होइ न वीछुड़ै गुर कै हेति पिआरि ॥१४॥

Miliaa hoi na veechhu(rr)ai gur kai heti piaari ||14||

And so united, she will not be separated again; she remains in the love and affection of the Guru. ||14||


ਪਿਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

पिरु सालाही आपणा गुर कै सबदि वीचारि ॥

Piru saalaahee aapa(nn)aa gur kai sabadi veechaari ||

I praise my Husband Lord, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੧੫॥

मिलि प्रीतम सुखु पाइआ सोभावंती नारि ॥१५॥

Mili preetam sukhu paaiaa sobhaavanttee naari ||15||

Meeting with my Beloved, I have found peace; I am His most beautiful and happy soul-bride. ||15||


ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਭਿਜਈ ਅਤਿ ਮੈਲੇ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਠੋਰ ॥

मनमुख मनु न भिजई अति मैले चिति कठोर ॥

Manamukh manu na bhijaee ati maile chiti kathor ||

The mind of the self-willed manmukh is not softened; his consciousness is totally polluted and stone-hearted.

ਸਪੈ ਦੁਧੁ ਪੀਆਈਐ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਨਿਕੋਰ ॥੧੬॥

सपै दुधु पीआईऐ अंदरि विसु निकोर ॥१६॥

Sapai dudhu peeaaeeai anddari visu nikor ||16||

Even if the venomous snake is fed on milk, it shall still be filled with poison. ||16||


ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

आपि करे किसु आखीऐ आपे बखसणहारु ॥

Aapi kare kisu aakheeai aape bakhasa(nn)ahaaru ||

He Himself does - who else should I ask? He Himself is the Forgiving Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥੧੭॥

गुर सबदी मैलु उतरै ता सचु बणिआ सीगारु ॥१७॥

Gur sabadee mailu utarai taa sachu ba(nn)iaa seegaaru ||17||

Through the Guru's Teachings, filth is washed away, and then, one is embellished with the ornament of Truth. ||17||


ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਓਥੈ ਕੂੜੇ ਨਾ ਟਿਕੰਨਿ ॥

सचा साहु सचे वणजारे ओथै कूड़े ना टिकंनि ॥

Sachaa saahu sache va(nn)ajaare othai koo(rr)e naa tikanni ||

True is the Banker, and True are His traders. The false ones cannot remain there.

ਓਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚੰਨਿ ॥੧੮॥

ओना सचु न भावई दुख ही माहि पचंनि ॥१८॥

Onaa sachu na bhaavaee dukh hee maahi pachanni ||18||

They do not love the Truth - they are consumed by their pain. ||18||


ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲਾ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥

हउमै मैला जगु फिरै मरि जमै वारो वार ॥

Haumai mailaa jagu phirai mari jammai vaaro vaar ||

The world wanders around in the filth of egotism; it dies, and is re-born, over and again.

ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰ ॥੧੯॥

पइऐ किरति कमावणा कोइ न मेटणहार ॥१९॥

Paiai kirati kamaava(nn)aa koi na meta(nn)ahaar ||19||

He acts in accordance with the karma of his past actions, which no one can erase. ||19||


ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

संता संगति मिलि रहै ता सचि लगै पिआरु ॥

Santtaa sanggati mili rahai taa sachi lagai piaaru ||

But if he joins the Society of the Saints, then he comes to embrace love for the Truth.

ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੨੦॥

सचु सलाही सचु मनि दरि सचै सचिआरु ॥२०॥

Sachu salaahee sachu mani dari sachai sachiaaru ||20||

Praising the True Lord with a truthful mind, he becomes true in the Court of the True Lord. ||20||


ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

गुर पूरे पूरी मति है अहिनिसि नामु धिआइ ॥

Gur poore pooree mati hai ahinisi naamu dhiaai ||

The Teachings of the Perfect Guru are perfect; meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, day and night.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਡ ਰੋਗੁ ਹੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇ ॥੨੧॥

हउमै मेरा वड रोगु है विचहु ठाकि रहाइ ॥२१॥

Haumai meraa vad rogu hai vichahu thaaki rahaai ||21||

Egotism and self-conceit are terrible diseases; tranquility and stillness come from within. ||21||


ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਪਾਇ ॥

गुरु सालाही आपणा निवि निवि लागा पाइ ॥

Guru saalaahee aapa(nn)aa nivi nivi laagaa paai ||

I praise my Guru; bowing down to Him again and again, I fall at His Feet.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪੀ ਆਗੈ ਧਰੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੨੨॥

तनु मनु सउपी आगै धरी विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥२२॥

Tanu manu saupee aagai dharee vichahu aapu gavaai ||22||

I place my body and mind in offering unto Him, eradicating self-conceit from within. ||22||


ਖਿੰਚੋਤਾਣਿ ਵਿਗੁਚੀਐ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

खिंचोताणि विगुचीऐ एकसु सिउ लिव लाइ ॥

Khincchotaa(nn)i vigucheeai ekasu siu liv laai ||

Indecision leads to ruin; focus your attention on the One Lord.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਛਡਿ ਤੂ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨੩॥

हउमै मेरा छडि तू ता सचि रहै समाइ ॥२३॥

Haumai meraa chhadi too taa sachi rahai samaai ||23||

Renounce egotism and self-conceit, and remain merged in Truth. ||23||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਿ ਭਾਇਰਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੰਨਿ ॥

सतिगुर नो मिले सि भाइरा सचै सबदि लगंनि ॥

Satigur no mile si bhaairaa sachai sabadi laganni ||

Those who meet with the True Guru are my Siblings of Destiny; they are committed to the True Word of the Shabad.

ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥੨੪॥

सचि मिले से न विछुड़हि दरि सचै दिसंनि ॥२४॥

Sachi mile se na vichhu(rr)ahi dari sachai disanni ||24||

Those who merge with the True Lord shall not be separated again; they are judged to be True in the Court of the Lord. ||24||


ਸੇ ਭਾਈ ਸੇ ਸਜਣਾ ਜੋ ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵੰਨਿ ॥

से भाई से सजणा जो सचा सेवंनि ॥

Se bhaaee se saja(nn)aa jo sachaa sevanni ||

They are my Siblings of Destiny, and they are my friends, who serve the True Lord.

ਅਵਗਣ ਵਿਕਣਿ ਪਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਰਨਿ ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਸਾਝ ਕਰੰਨੑਿ ॥੨੫॥

अवगण विकणि पल्हरनि गुण की साझ करंन्हि ॥२५॥

Avaga(nn) vika(nn)i palhrani gu(nn) kee saajh karannhi ||25||

They sell off their sins and demerits like straw, and enter into the partnership of virtue. ||25||


ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਸਾਝ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇਨਿ ॥

गुण की साझ सुखु ऊपजै सची भगति करेनि ॥

Gu(nn) kee saajh sukhu upajai sachee bhagati kareni ||

In the partnership of virtue, peace wells up, and they perform true devotional worship service.

ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏਨਿ ॥੨੬॥

सचु वणंजहि गुर सबद सिउ लाहा नामु लएनि ॥२६॥

Sachu va(nn)anjjahi gur sabad siu laahaa naamu laeni ||26||

They deal in Truth, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and they earn the profit of the Naam. ||26||


ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

सुइना रुपा पाप करि करि संचीऐ चलै न चलदिआ नालि ॥

Suinaa rupaa paap kari kari sanccheeai chalai na chaladiaa naali ||

Gold and silver may be earned by committing sins, but they will not go with you when you die.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਸੀ ਸਭ ਮੁਠੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥੨੭॥

विणु नावै नालि न चलसी सभ मुठी जमकालि ॥२७॥

Vi(nn)u naavai naali na chalasee sabh muthee jamakaali ||27||

Nothing will go with you in the end, except the Name; all are plundered by the Messenger of Death. ||27||


ਮਨ ਕਾ ਤੋਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਹੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥

मन का तोसा हरि नामु है हिरदै रखहु सम्हालि ॥

Man kaa tosaa hari naamu hai hiradai rakhahu samhaali ||

The Lord's Name is the nourishment of the mind; cherish it, and preserve it carefully within your heart.

ਏਹੁ ਖਰਚੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨੮॥

एहु खरचु अखुटु है गुरमुखि निबहै नालि ॥२८॥

Ehu kharachu akhutu hai guramukhi nibahai naali ||28||

This nourishment is inexhaustible; it is always with the Gurmukhs. ||28||


ਏ ਮਨ ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੁਲਿਆ ਜਾਸਹਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

ए मन मूलहु भुलिआ जासहि पति गवाइ ॥

E man moolahu bhuliaa jaasahi pati gavaai ||

O mind, if you forget the Primal Lord, you shall depart, having lost your honor.

ਇਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੨੯॥

इहु जगतु मोहि दूजै विआपिआ गुरमती सचु धिआइ ॥२९॥

Ihu jagatu mohi doojai viaapiaa guramatee sachu dhiaai ||29||

This world is engrossed in the love of duality; follow the Guru's Teachings, and meditate on the True Lord. ||29||


ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਲਿਖਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

हरि की कीमति ना पवै हरि जसु लिखणु न जाइ ॥

Hari kee keemati naa pavai hari jasu likha(nn)u na jaai ||

The Lord's value cannot be estimated; the Lord's Praises cannot be written down.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩੦॥

गुर कै सबदि मनु तनु रपै हरि सिउ रहै समाइ ॥३०॥

Gur kai sabadi manu tanu rapai hari siu rahai samaai ||30||

When one's mind and body are attuned to the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one remains merged in the Lord. ||30||


ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਰੰਗੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

सो सहु मेरा रंगुला रंगे सहजि सुभाइ ॥

So sahu meraa ranggulaa rangge sahaji subhaai ||

My Husband Lord is playful; He has imbued me with His Love, with natural ease.

ਕਾਮਣਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਤਾ ਚੜੈ ਜਾ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩੧॥

कामणि रंगु ता चड़ै जा पिर कै अंकि समाइ ॥३१॥

Kaama(nn)i ranggu taa cha(rr)ai jaa pir kai ankki samaai ||31||

The soul-bride is imbued with His Love, when her Husband Lord merges her into His Being. ||31||


ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਭੀ ਮਿਲਨਿ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੰਨਿ ॥

चिरी विछुंने भी मिलनि जो सतिगुरु सेवंनि ॥

Chiree vichhunne bhee milani jo satiguru sevanni ||

Even those who have been separated for so very long, are reunited with Him, when they serve the True Guru.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਖਾਨਿ ਖਰਚਨਿ ਨ ਨਿਖੁਟਈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਵੰਨਿ ॥੩੨॥

अंतरि नव निधि नामु है खानि खरचनि न निखुटई हरि गुण सहजि रवंनि ॥३२॥

Anttari nav nidhi naamu hai khaani kharachani na nikhutaee hari gu(nn) sahaji ravanni ||32||

The nine treasures of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are deep within the nucleus of the self; consuming them, they are still never exhausted. Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, with natural ease. ||32||


ਨਾ ਓਇ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਨਾ ਮਰਹਿ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੰਨਿ ॥

ना ओइ जनमहि ना मरहि ना ओइ दुख सहंनि ॥

Naa oi janamahi naa marahi naa oi dukh sahanni ||

They are not born, and they do not die; they do not suffer in pain.

ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਕੇਲ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥੩੩॥

गुरि राखे से उबरे हरि सिउ केल करंनि ॥३३॥

Guri raakhe se ubare hari siu kel karanni ||33||

Those who are protected by the Guru are saved. They celebrate with the Lord. ||33||


ਸਜਣ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਜਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥

सजण मिले न विछुड़हि जि अनदिनु मिले रहंनि ॥

Saja(nn) mile na vichhu(rr)ahi ji anadinu mile rahanni ||

Those who are united with the Lord, the True Friend, are not separated again; night and day, they remain blended with Him.

ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਲਹੰਨਿ ॥੩੪॥੧॥੩॥

इसु जग महि विरले जाणीअहि नानक सचु लहंनि ॥३४॥१॥३॥

Isu jag mahi virale jaa(nn)eeahi naanak sachu lahanni ||34||1||3||

In this world, only a rare few are known, O Nanak, to have obtained the True Lord. ||34||1||3||

Soohee, Third Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਸੂਖਮੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

हरि जी सूखमु अगमु है कितु बिधि मिलिआ जाइ ॥

Hari jee sookhamu agamu hai kitu bidhi miliaa jaai ||

The Dear Lord is subtle and inaccessible; how can we ever meet Him?

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥

गुर कै सबदि भ्रमु कटीऐ अचिंतु वसै मनि आइ ॥१॥

Gur kai sabadi bhrmu kateeai achinttu vasai mani aai ||1||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, doubt is dispelled, and the Carefree Lord comes to abide in the mind. ||1||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੰਨਿ ॥

गुरमुखि हरि हरि नामु जपंनि ॥

Guramukhi hari hari naamu japanni ||

The Gurmukhs chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਦਾ ਰਵੰਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हउ तिन कै बलिहारणै मनि हरि गुण सदा रवंनि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hau tin kai balihaara(nn)ai mani hari gu(nn) sadaa ravanni ||1|| rahaau ||

I am a sacrifice to those who chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord in their minds forever. ||1|| Pause ||


ਗੁਰੁ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰੁ ਹੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਲਹੰਨੑਿ ॥

गुरु सरवरु मान सरोवरु है वडभागी पुरख लहंन्हि ॥

Guru saravaru maan sarovaru hai vadabhaagee purakh lahannhi ||

The Guru is like the Mansarovar Lake; only the very fortunate beings find Him.

ਸੇਵਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿਆ ਸੇ ਹੰਸੁਲੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਹੰਨਿ ॥੨॥

सेवक गुरमुखि खोजिआ से हंसुले नामु लहंनि ॥२॥

Sevak guramukhi khojiaa se hanssule naamu lahanni ||2||

The Gurmukhs, the selfless servants, seek out the Guru; the swan-souls feed there on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||


ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਨੑਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੰਨੑਿ ॥

नामु धिआइन्हि रंग सिउ गुरमुखि नामि लगंन्हि ॥

Naamu dhiaainhi rangg siu guramukhi naami lagannhi ||

The Gurmukhs meditate on the Naam, and remain linked to the Naam.

ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਲਏਨੑਿ ॥੩॥

धुरि पूरबि होवै लिखिआ गुर भाणा मंनि लएन्हि ॥३॥

Dhuri poorabi hovai likhiaa gur bhaa(nn)aa manni laenhi ||3||

Whatever is pre-ordained, accept it as the Will of the Guru. ||3||


ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਘਰੁ ਖੋਜਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥

वडभागी घरु खोजिआ पाइआ नामु निधानु ॥

Vadabhaagee gharu khojiaa paaiaa naamu nidhaanu ||

By great good fortune, I searched my home, and found the treasure of the Naam.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਵੇਖਾਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੪॥

गुरि पूरै वेखालिआ प्रभु आतम रामु पछानु ॥४॥

Guri poorai vekhaaliaa prbhu aatam raamu pachhaanu ||4||

The Perfect Guru has shown God to me; I have realized the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||4||


ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

सभना का प्रभु एकु है दूजा अवरु न कोइ ॥

Sabhanaa kaa prbhu eku hai doojaa avaru na koi ||

There is One God of all; there is no other at all.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥

गुर परसादी मनि वसै तितु घटि परगटु होइ ॥५॥

Gur parasaadee mani vasai titu ghati paragatu hoi ||5||

By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to abide in the mind; in the heart of such a one, He is revealed. ||5||


ਸਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਥਾਇ ॥

सभु अंतरजामी ब्रहमु है ब्रहमु वसै सभ थाइ ॥

Sabhu anttarajaamee brhamu hai brhamu vasai sabh thaai ||

God is the Inner-knower of all hearts; God dwells in every place.

ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੬॥

मंदा किस नो आखीऐ सबदि वेखहु लिव लाइ ॥६॥

Manddaa kis no aakheeai sabadi vekhahu liv laai ||6||

So who should we call evil? Behold the Word of the Shabad, and lovingly dwell upon it. ||6||


ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਆਖਦਾ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਹੁ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

बुरा भला तिचरु आखदा जिचरु है दुहु माहि ॥

Buraa bhalaa ticharu aakhadaa jicharu hai duhu maahi ||

He calls others bad and good, as long as he is in duality.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਏਕਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੭॥

गुरमुखि एको बुझिआ एकसु माहि समाइ ॥७॥

Guramukhi eko bujhiaa ekasu maahi samaai ||7||

The Gurmukh understands the One and Only Lord; He is absorbed in the One Lord. ||7||


ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਸੀ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਏ ਥਾਇ ॥

सेवा सा प्रभ भावसी जो प्रभु पाए थाइ ॥

Sevaa saa prbh bhaavasee jo prbhu paae thaai ||

That is selfless service, which pleases God, and which is approved by God.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥੪॥੯॥

जन नानक हरि आराधिआ गुर चरणी चितु लाइ ॥८॥२॥४॥९॥

Jan naanak hari aaraadhiaa gur chara(nn)ee chitu laai ||8||2||4||9||

Servant Nanak worships the Lord in adoration; he focuses his consciousness on the Guru's Feet. ||8||2||4||9||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਵੇਚਾਈ ॥੧॥

कोई आणि मिलावै मेरा प्रीतमु पिआरा हउ तिसु पहि आपु वेचाई ॥१॥

Koee aa(nn)i milaavai meraa preetamu piaaraa hau tisu pahi aapu vechaaee ||1||

If only someone would come, and lead me to meet my Darling Beloved; I would sell myself to him. ||1||


ਦਰਸਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥

दरसनु हरि देखण कै ताई ॥

Darasanu hari dekha(nn) kai taaee ||

I long for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

क्रिपा करहि ता सतिगुरु मेलहि हरि हरि नामु धिआई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kripaa karahi taa satiguru melahi hari hari naamu dhiaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

When the Lord shows Mercy unto me, then I meet the True Guru; I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| Pause ||


ਜੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਅਰਾਧੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਭੀ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੨॥

जे सुखु देहि त तुझहि अराधी दुखि भी तुझै धिआई ॥२॥

Je sukhu dehi ta tujhahi araadhee dukhi bhee tujhai dhiaaee ||2||

If You will bless me with happiness, then I will worship and adore You. Even in pain, I will meditate on You. ||2||


ਜੇ ਭੁਖ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਇਤ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਖ ਮਨਾਈ ॥੩॥

जे भुख देहि त इत ही राजा दुख विचि सूख मनाई ॥३॥

Je bhukh dehi ta it hee raajaa dukh vichi sookh manaaee ||3||

Even if You give me hunger, I will still feel satisfied; I am joyful, even in the midst of sorrow. ||3||


ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਭੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਗਨੀ ਆਪੁ ਜਲਾਈ ॥੪॥

तनु मनु काटि काटि सभु अरपी विचि अगनी आपु जलाई ॥४॥

Tanu manu kaati kaati sabhu arapee vichi aganee aapu jalaaee ||4||

I would cut my mind and body apart into pieces, and offer them all to You; I would burn myself in fire. ||4||


ਪਖਾ ਫੇਰੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਢੋਵਾ ਜੋ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਸੋ ਖਾਈ ॥੫॥

पखा फेरी पाणी ढोवा जो देवहि सो खाई ॥५॥

Pakhaa pheree paa(nn)ee dhovaa jo devahi so khaaee ||5||

I wave the fan over You, and carry water for You; whatever You give me, I take. ||5||


ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਰੀਬੁ ਢਹਿ ਪਇਆ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੬॥

नानकु गरीबु ढहि पइआ दुआरै हरि मेलि लैहु वडिआई ॥६॥

Naanaku gareebu dhahi paiaa duaarai hari meli laihu vadiaaee ||6||

Poor Nanak has fallen at the Lord's Door; please, O Lord, unite me with Yourself, by Your Glorious Greatness. ||6||


ਅਖੀ ਕਾਢਿ ਧਰੀ ਚਰਣਾ ਤਲਿ ਸਭ ਧਰਤੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਤ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥

अखी काढि धरी चरणा तलि सभ धरती फिरि मत पाई ॥७॥

Akhee kaadhi dharee chara(nn)aa tali sabh dharatee phiri mat paaee ||7||

Taking out my eyes, I place them at Your Feet; after travelling over the entire earth, I have come to understand this. ||7||


ਜੇ ਪਾਸਿ ਬਹਾਲਹਿ ਤਾ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਅਰਾਧੀ ਜੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢਹਿ ਭੀ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੮॥

जे पासि बहालहि ता तुझहि अराधी जे मारि कढहि भी धिआई ॥८॥

Je paasi bahaalahi taa tujhahi araadhee je maari kadhahi bhee dhiaaee ||8||

If You seat me near You, then I worship and adore You. Even if You beat me and drive me out, I will still meditate on You. ||8||


ਜੇ ਲੋਕੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਤਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਜੇ ਨਿੰਦੈ ਤ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੯॥

जे लोकु सलाहे ता तेरी उपमा जे निंदै त छोडि न जाई ॥९॥

Je loku salaahe taa teree upamaa je ninddai ta chhodi na jaaee ||9||

If people praise me, the praise is Yours. Even if they slander me, I will not leave You. ||9||


ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਹੁ ਆਖਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਸਰਿਐ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੦॥

जे तुधु वलि रहै ता कोई किहु आखउ तुधु विसरिऐ मरि जाई ॥१०॥

Je tudhu vali rahai taa koee kihu aakhau tudhu visariai mari jaaee ||10||

If You are on my side, then anyone can say anything. But if I were to forget You, then I would die. ||10||


ਵਾਰਿ ਵਾਰਿ ਜਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਪੈ ਪੈਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਮਨਾਈ ॥੧੧॥

वारि वारि जाई गुर ऊपरि पै पैरी संत मनाई ॥११॥

Vaari vaari jaaee gur upari pai pairee santt manaaee ||11||

I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to my Guru; falling at His Feet, I surrender to the Saintly Guru. ||11||


ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਭਇਆ ਦਿਵਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਤਉ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥੧੨॥

नानकु विचारा भइआ दिवाना हरि तउ दरसन कै ताई ॥१२॥

Naanaku vichaaraa bhaiaa divaanaa hari tau darasan kai taaee ||12||

Poor Nanak has gone insane, longing for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. ||12||


ਝਖੜੁ ਝਾਗੀ ਮੀਹੁ ਵਰਸੈ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਖਣ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੩॥

झखड़ु झागी मीहु वरसै भी गुरु देखण जाई ॥१३॥

Jhakha(rr)u jhaagee meehu varasai bhee guru dekha(nn) jaaee ||13||

Even in violent storms and torrential rain, I go out to catch a glimpse of my Guru. ||13||


ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਖਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਲੰਘਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੪॥

समुंदु सागरु होवै बहु खारा गुरसिखु लंघि गुर पहि जाई ॥१४॥

Samunddu saagaru hovai bahu khaaraa gurasikhu langghi gur pahi jaaee ||14||

Even though the oceans and the salty seas are very vast, the GurSikh will cross over it to get to his Guru. ||14||


ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੈ ਮਰਤਾ ਤਿਉ ਸਿਖੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੫॥

जिउ प्राणी जल बिनु है मरता तिउ सिखु गुर बिनु मरि जाई ॥१५॥

Jiu praa(nn)ee jal binu hai marataa tiu sikhu gur binu mari jaaee ||15||

Just as the mortal dies without water, so does the Sikh die without the Guru. ||15||


ਜਿਉ ਧਰਤੀ ਸੋਭ ਕਰੇ ਜਲੁ ਬਰਸੈ ਤਿਉ ਸਿਖੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਿਗਸਾਈ ॥੧੬॥

जिउ धरती सोभ करे जलु बरसै तिउ सिखु गुर मिलि बिगसाई ॥१६॥

Jiu dharatee sobh kare jalu barasai tiu sikhu gur mili bigasaaee ||16||

Just as the earth looks beautiful when the rain falls, so does the Sikh blossom forth meeting the Guru. ||16||


ਸੇਵਕ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਵਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਨਉ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥੧੭॥

सेवक का होइ सेवकु वरता करि करि बिनउ बुलाई ॥१७॥

Sevak kaa hoi sevaku varataa kari kari binau bulaaee ||17||

I long to be the servant of Your servants; I call upon You reverently in prayer. ||17||


ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੮॥

नानक की बेनंती हरि पहि गुर मिलि गुर सुखु पाई ॥१८॥

Naanak kee benanttee hari pahi gur mili gur sukhu paaee ||18||

Nanak offers this prayer to the Lord, that he may meet the Guru, and find peace. ||18||


ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਚੇਲਾ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰ ਵਿਚੁ ਦੇ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੧੯॥

तू आपे गुरु चेला है आपे गुर विचु दे तुझहि धिआई ॥१९॥

Too aape guru chelaa hai aape gur vichu de tujhahi dhiaaee ||19||

You Yourself are the Guru, and You Yourself are the chaylaa, the disciple; through the Guru, I meditate on You. ||19||


ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੋ ਤੂਹੈ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥੨੦॥

जो तुधु सेवहि सो तूहै होवहि तुधु सेवक पैज रखाई ॥२०॥

Jo tudhu sevahi so toohai hovahi tudhu sevak paij rakhaaee ||20||

Those who serve You, become You. You preserve the honor of Your servants. ||20||


ਭੰਡਾਰ ਭਰੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਾਈ ॥੨੧॥

भंडार भरे भगती हरि तेरे जिसु भावै तिसु देवाई ॥२१॥

Bhanddaar bhare bhagatee hari tere jisu bhaavai tisu devaaee ||21||

O Lord, Your devotional worship is a treasure over-flowing. One who loves You, is blessed with it. ||21||


ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਰ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਸਭ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥੨੨॥

जिसु तूं देहि सोई जनु पाए होर निहफल सभ चतुराई ॥२२॥

Jisu toonn dehi soee janu paae hor nihaphal sabh chaturaaee ||22||

That humble being alone receives it, unto whom You bestow it. All other clever tricks are fruitless. ||22||


ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗਾਈ ॥੨੩॥

सिमरि सिमरि सिमरि गुरु अपुना सोइआ मनु जागाई ॥२३॥

Simari simari simari guru apunaa soiaa manu jaagaaee ||23||

Remembering, remembering, remembering my Guru in meditation, my sleeping mind is awakened. ||23||


ਇਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਰਾਈ ॥੨੪॥

इकु दानु मंगै नानकु वेचारा हरि दासनि दासु कराई ॥२४॥

Iku daanu manggai naanaku vechaaraa hari daasani daasu karaaee ||24||

Poor Nanak begs for this one blessing, that he may become the slave of the slaves of the Lord. ||24||


ਜੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਝਿੜਕੇ ਤ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਜੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਤ ਗੁਰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨੫॥

जे गुरु झिड़के त मीठा लागै जे बखसे त गुर वडिआई ॥२५॥

Je guru jhi(rr)ake ta meethaa laagai je bakhase ta gur vadiaaee ||25||

Even if the Guru rebukes me, He still seems very sweet to me. And if He actually forgives me, that is the Guru's greatness. ||25||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਏ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੨੬॥

गुरमुखि बोलहि सो थाइ पाए मनमुखि किछु थाइ न पाई ॥२६॥

Guramukhi bolahi so thaai paae manamukhi kichhu thaai na paaee ||26||

That which Gurmukh speaks is certified and approved. Whatever the self-willed manmukh says is not accepted. ||26||


ਪਾਲਾ ਕਕਰੁ ਵਰਫ ਵਰਸੈ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੁ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖਣ ਜਾਈ ॥੨੭॥

पाला ककरु वरफ वरसै गुरसिखु गुर देखण जाई ॥२७॥

Paalaa kakaru varaph varasai gurasikhu gur dekha(nn) jaaee ||27||

Even in the cold, the frost and the snow, the GurSikh still goes out to see his Guru. ||27||


ਸਭੁ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਦੇਖਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਖੀ ਗੁਰ ਪੈਰ ਧਰਾਈ ॥੨੮॥

सभु दिनसु रैणि देखउ गुरु अपुना विचि अखी गुर पैर धराई ॥२८॥

Sabhu dinasu rai(nn)i dekhau guru apunaa vichi akhee gur pair dharaaee ||28||

All day and night, I gaze upon my Guru; I install the Guru's Feet in my eyes. ||28||


ਅਨੇਕ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਈ ॥੨੯॥

अनेक उपाव करी गुर कारणि गुर भावै सो थाइ पाई ॥२९॥

Anek upaav karee gur kaara(nn)i gur bhaavai so thaai paaee ||29||

I make so many efforts for the sake of the Guru; only that which pleases the Guru is accepted and approved. ||29||


ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਅਰਾਧੀ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਈ ॥੩੦॥

रैणि दिनसु गुर चरण अराधी दइआ करहु मेरे साई ॥३०॥

Rai(nn)i dinasu gur chara(nn) araadhee daiaa karahu mere saaee ||30||

Night and day, I worship the Guru's Feet in adoration; have Mercy upon me, O my Lord and Master. ||30||


ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਈ ॥੩੧॥

नानक का जीउ पिंडु गुरू है गुर मिलि त्रिपति अघाई ॥३१॥

Naanak kaa jeeu pinddu guroo hai gur mili tripati aghaaee ||31||

The Guru is Nanak's body and soul; meeting the Guru, he is satisfied and satiated. ||31||


ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਹੈ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਤਤ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥੩੨॥੧॥

नानक का प्रभु पूरि रहिओ है जत कत तत गोसाई ॥३२॥१॥

Naanak kaa prbhu poori rahio hai jat kat tat gosaaee ||32||1||

Nanak's God is perfectly permeating and all-pervading. Here and there and everywhere, the Lord of the Universe. ||32||1||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਆਪਣੈ ॥

अंदरि सचा नेहु लाइआ प्रीतम आपणै ॥

Anddari sachaa nehu laaiaa preetam aapa(nn)ai ||

Deep within myself, I have enshrined true love for my Beloved.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਜਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਖਾ ਸਾਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਣੇ ॥੧॥

तनु मनु होइ निहालु जा गुरु देखा साम्हणे ॥१॥

Tanu manu hoi nihaalu jaa guru dekhaa saamh(nn)e ||1||

My body and soul are in ecstasy; I see my Guru before me. ||1||


ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਹੁ ॥

मै हरि हरि नामु विसाहु ॥

Mai hari hari naamu visaahu ||

I have purchased the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर पूरे ते पाइआ अम्रितु अगम अथाहु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur poore te paaiaa ammmritu agam athaahu ||1|| rahaau ||

I have obtained the Inaccessible and Unfathomable Ambrosial Nectar from the Perfect Guru. ||1|| Pause ||


ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗਾ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

हउ सतिगुरु वेखि विगसीआ हरि नामे लगा पिआरु ॥

Hau satiguru vekhi vigaseeaa hari naame lagaa piaaru ||

Gazing upon the True Guru, I blossom forth in ecstasy; I am in love with the Name of the Lord.

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥

किरपा करि कै मेलिअनु पाइआ मोख दुआरु ॥२॥

Kirapaa kari kai melianu paaiaa mokh duaaru ||2||

Through His Mercy, the Lord has united me with Himself, and I have found the Door of Salvation. ||2||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬਿਰਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਉ ॥

सतिगुरु बिरही नाम का जे मिलै त तनु मनु देउ ॥

Satiguru birahee naam kaa je milai ta tanu manu deu ||

The True Guru is the Lover of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Meeting Him, I dedicate my body and mind to Him.

ਜੇ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਪੀਏਉ ॥੩॥

जे पूरबि होवै लिखिआ ता अम्रितु सहजि पीएउ ॥३॥

Je poorabi hovai likhiaa taa ammmritu sahaji peeeu ||3||

And if it is so pre-ordained, then I shall automatically drink in the Ambrosial Nectar. ||3||


ਸੁਤਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਲਾਉ ॥

सुतिआ गुरु सालाहीऐ उठदिआ भी गुरु आलाउ ॥

Sutiaa guru saalaaheeai uthadiaa bhee guru aalaau ||

Praise the Guru while you are asleep, and call on the Guru while you are up.

ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਉ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਧੋਵਾ ਪਾਉ ॥੪॥

कोई ऐसा गुरमुखि जे मिलै हउ ता के धोवा पाउ ॥४॥

Koee aisaa guramukhi je milai hau taa ke dhovaa paau ||4||

If only I could meet such a Gurmukh; I would wash His Feet. ||4||


ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸਜਣੁ ਲੋੜਿ ਲਹੁ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

कोई ऐसा सजणु लोड़ि लहु मै प्रीतमु देइ मिलाइ ॥

Koee aisaa saja(nn)u lo(rr)i lahu mai preetamu dei milaai ||

I long for such a Friend, to unite me with my Beloved.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੫॥

सतिगुरि मिलिऐ हरि पाइआ मिलिआ सहजि सुभाइ ॥५॥

Satiguri miliai hari paaiaa miliaa sahaji subhaai ||5||

Meeting the True Guru, I have found the Lord. He has met me, easily and effortlessly. ||5||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਮੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਖਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥

सतिगुरु सागरु गुण नाम का मै तिसु देखण का चाउ ॥

Satiguru saagaru gu(nn) naam kaa mai tisu dekha(nn) kaa chaau ||

The True Guru is the Ocean of Virtue of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I have such a yearning to see Him!

ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਊ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥

हउ तिसु बिनु घड़ी न जीवऊ बिनु देखे मरि जाउ ॥६॥

Hau tisu binu gha(rr)ee na jeevau binu dekhe mari jaau ||6||

Without Him, I cannot live, even for an instant. If I do not see Him, I die. ||6||


ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕਿਤੈ ਉਪਾਇ ॥

जिउ मछुली विणु पाणीऐ रहै न कितै उपाइ ॥

Jiu machhulee vi(nn)u paa(nn)eeai rahai na kitai upaai ||

As the fish cannot survive at all without water,

ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਤੁ ਨ ਜੀਵਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥

तिउ हरि बिनु संतु न जीवई बिनु हरि नामै मरि जाइ ॥७॥

Tiu hari binu santtu na jeevaee binu hari naamai mari jaai ||7||

The Saint cannot live without the Lord. Without the Lord's Name, he dies. ||7||


ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਕਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਮਾਉ ॥

मै सतिगुर सेती पिरहड़ी किउ गुर बिनु जीवा माउ ॥

Mai satigur setee piraha(rr)ee kiu gur binu jeevaa maau ||

I am so much in love with my True Guru! How could I even live without the Guru, O my mother?

ਮੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੮॥

मै गुरबाणी आधारु है गुरबाणी लागि रहाउ ॥८॥

Mai gurabaa(nn)ee aadhaaru hai gurabaa(nn)ee laagi rahaau ||8||

I have the Support of the Word of the Guru's Bani. Attached to Gurbani, I survive. ||8||


ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਦੇਵੈ ਮਾਇ ॥

हरि हरि नामु रतंनु है गुरु तुठा देवै माइ ॥

Hari hari naamu ratannu hai guru tuthaa devai maai ||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is a jewel; by the Pleasure of His Will, the Guru has given it, O my mother.

ਮੈ ਧਰ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੯॥

मै धर सचे नाम की हरि नामि रहा लिव लाइ ॥९॥

Mai dhar sache naam kee hari naami rahaa liv laai ||9||

The True Name is my only Support. I remain lovingly absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||9||


ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਦੇਇ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ॥

गुर गिआनु पदारथु नामु है हरि नामो देइ द्रिड़ाइ ॥

Gur giaanu padaarathu naamu hai hari naamo dei dri(rr)aai ||

The wisdom of the Guru is the treasure of the Naam. The Guru implants and enshrines the Lord's Name.

ਜਿਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੋ ਲਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥੧੦॥

जिसु परापति सो लहै गुर चरणी लागै आइ ॥१०॥

Jisu paraapati so lahai gur chara(nn)ee laagai aai ||10||

He alone receives it, he alone gets it, who comes and falls at the Guru's Feet. ||10||


ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਆਖੈ ਆਇ ॥

अकथ कहाणी प्रेम की को प्रीतमु आखै आइ ॥

Akath kahaa(nn)ee prem kee ko preetamu aakhai aai ||

If only someone would come and tell me the Unspoken Speech of the Love of my Beloved.

ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਮਨੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਪਾਇ ॥੧੧॥

तिसु देवा मनु आपणा निवि निवि लागा पाइ ॥११॥

Tisu devaa manu aapa(nn)aa nivi nivi laagaa paai ||11||

I would dedicate my mind to him; I would bow down in humble respect, and fall at his feet. ||11||


ਸਜਣੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥

सजणु मेरा एकु तूं करता पुरखु सुजाणु ॥

Saja(nn)u meraa eku toonn karataa purakhu sujaa(nn)u ||

You are my only Friend, O my All-knowing, All-powerful Creator Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੀਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੧੨॥

सतिगुरि मीति मिलाइआ मै सदा सदा तेरा ताणु ॥१२॥

Satiguri meeti milaaiaa mai sadaa sadaa teraa taa(nn)u ||12||

You have brought me to meet with my True Guru. Forever and ever, You are my only strength. ||12||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

सतिगुरु मेरा सदा सदा ना आवै ना जाइ ॥

Satiguru meraa sadaa sadaa naa aavai naa jaai ||

My True Guru, forever and ever, does not come and go.

ਓਹੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੩॥

ओहु अबिनासी पुरखु है सभ महि रहिआ समाइ ॥१३॥

Ohu abinaasee purakhu hai sabh mahi rahiaa samaai ||13||

He is the Imperishable Creator Lord; He is permeating and pervading among all. ||13||


ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

राम नाम धनु संचिआ साबतु पूंजी रासि ॥

Raam naam dhanu sancchiaa saabatu poonjjee raasi ||

I have gathered in the wealth of the Lord's Name. My facilities and faculties are intact, safe and sound.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਗਹ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥੧੪॥੧॥੨॥੧੧॥

नानक दरगह मंनिआ गुर पूरे साबासि ॥१४॥१॥२॥११॥

Naanak daragah manniaa gur poore saabaasi ||14||1||2||11||

O Nanak, I am approved and respected in the Court of the Lord; the Perfect Guru has blessed me! ||14||1||2||11||

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਉਰਝਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥

उरझि रहिओ बिखिआ कै संगा ॥

Urajhi rahio bikhiaa kai sanggaa ||

He is entangled in sinful associations;

ਮਨਹਿ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਅਨਿਕ ਤਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥

मनहि बिआपत अनिक तरंगा ॥१॥

Manahi biaapat anik taranggaa ||1||

His mind is troubled by so very many waves. ||1||


ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ॥

मेरे मन अगम अगोचर ॥

Mere man agam agochar ||

The one who is Unapproachable and Incomprehensible; O my mind,

ਕਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कत पाईऐ पूरन परमेसर ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kat paaeeai pooran paramesar ||1|| rahaau ||

how can that Perfect Transcendent Lord be found? ||1||Pause||


ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਆਪੇ ॥

मोह मगन महि रहिआ बिआपे ॥

Moh magan mahi rahiaa biaape ||

He remains entangled in the intoxication of worldly love.

ਅਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਕਬਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ॥੨॥

अति त्रिसना कबहू नही ध्रापे ॥२॥

Ati trisanaa kabahoo nahee dhraape ||2||

His excessive thirst is never quenched. ||2||


ਬਸਇ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਚੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

बसइ करोधु सरीरि चंडारा ॥

Basai karodhu sareeri chanddaaraa ||

Anger is the outcaste which hides within his body;

ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

अगिआनि न सूझै महा गुबारा ॥३॥

Agiaani na soojhai mahaa gubaaraa ||3||

He is in the utter darkness of ignorance, and he does not understand. ||3||


ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਜਰੇ ਕਿਵਾਰਾ ॥

भ्रमत बिआपत जरे किवारा ॥

Bhrmat biaapat jare kivaaraa ||

Afflicted by doubt, the shutters are shut tight;

ਜਾਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥

जाणु न पाईऐ प्रभ दरबारा ॥४॥

Jaa(nn)u na paaeeai prbh darabaaraa ||4||

He cannot go to God's Court. ||4||


ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥

आसा अंदेसा बंधि पराना ॥

Aasaa anddesaa banddhi paraanaa ||

The mortal is bound and gagged by hope and fear;

ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥੫॥

महलु न पावै फिरत बिगाना ॥५॥

Mahalu na paavai phirat bigaanaa ||5||

He cannot find the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, and so he wanders around like a stranger. ||5||


ਸਗਲ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ॥

सगल बिआधि कै वसि करि दीना ॥

Sagal biaadhi kai vasi kari deenaa ||

He falls under the power of all negative influences;

ਫਿਰਤ ਪਿਆਸ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੀਨਾ ॥੬॥

फिरत पिआस जिउ जल बिनु मीना ॥६॥

Phirat piaas jiu jal binu meenaa ||6||

He wanders around thirsty like a fish out of water. ||6||


ਕਛੂ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥

कछू सिआनप उकति न मोरी ॥

Kachhoo siaanap ukati na moree ||

I have no clever tricks or techniques;

ਏਕ ਆਸ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੭॥

एक आस ठाकुर प्रभ तोरी ॥७॥

Ek aas thaakur prbh toree ||7||

You are my only hope, O my Lord God Master. ||7||


ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੰਤਨ ਪਾਸੇ ॥

करउ बेनती संतन पासे ॥

Karau benatee santtan paase ||

Nanak offers this prayer to the Saints

ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਦਾਸੇ ॥੮॥

मेलि लैहु नानक अरदासे ॥८॥

Meli laihu naanak aradaase ||8||

- please let me merge and blend with You. ||8||


ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

भइओ क्रिपालु साधसंगु पाइआ ॥

Bhaio kripaalu saadhasanggu paaiaa ||

God has shown Mercy, and I have found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥

नानक त्रिपते पूरा पाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ दूजा ॥१॥

Naanak tripate pooraa paaiaa ||1|| rahaau doojaa ||1||

Attachment to sex is an ocean of fire and pain.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਉਧਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਗਰ ॥੧॥

करि किरपा उधरु हरि नागर ॥१॥

Kari kirapaa udharu hari naagar ||1||

By Your Grace, O Sublime Lord, please save me from it. ||1||


ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਣਾਇ ਨਰਾਇਣ ॥

चरण कमल सरणाइ नराइण ॥

Chara(nn) kamal sara(nn)aai naraai(nn) ||

I seek the Sanctuary of the Lotus Feet of the Lord.

ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

दीना नाथ भगत पराइण ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Deenaa naath bhagat paraai(nn) ||1|| rahaau ||

He is the Master of the meek, the Support of His devotees. ||1|| Pause ||


ਅਨਾਥਾ ਨਾਥ ਭਗਤ ਭੈ ਮੇਟਨ ॥

अनाथा नाथ भगत भै मेटन ॥

Anaathaa naath bhagat bhai metan ||

Master of the masterless, Patron of the forlorn, Eradicator of fear of His devotees.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਨ ਭੇਟਨ ॥੨॥

साधसंगि जमदूत न भेटन ॥२॥

Saadhasanggi jamadoot na bhetan ||2||

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Messenger of Death cannot even touch them. ||2||


ਜੀਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥

जीवन रूप अनूप दइआला ॥

Jeevan roop anoop daiaalaa ||

The Merciful, Incomparably Beautiful, Embodiment of Life.

ਰਵਣ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਜਾਲਾ ॥੩॥

रवण गुणा कटीऐ जम जाला ॥३॥

Rava(nn) gu(nn)aa kateeai jam jaalaa ||3||

Vibrating the Glorious Virtues of the Lord, the noose of the Messenger of Death is cut away. ||3||


ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਨ ਨਿਤ ਜਾਪੈ ॥

अम्रित नामु रसन नित जापै ॥

Ammmrit naamu rasan nit jaapai ||

One who constantly chants the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam with his tongue,

ਰੋਗ ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥੪॥

रोग रूप माइआ न बिआपै ॥४॥

Rog roop maaiaa na biaapai ||4||

Is not touched or affected by Maya, the embodiment of disease. ||4||


ਜਪਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਭਿ ਤਾਰੇ ॥

जपि गोबिंद संगी सभि तारे ॥

Japi gobindd sanggee sabhi taare ||

Chant and meditate on God, the Lord of the Universe, and all of your companions shall be carried across;

ਪੋਹਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਪੰਚ ਬਟਵਾਰੇ ॥੫॥

पोहत नाही पंच बटवारे ॥५॥

Pohat naahee pancch batavaare ||5||

The five thieves will not even approach. ||5||


ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥

मन बच क्रम प्रभु एकु धिआए ॥

Man bach krm prbhu eku dhiaae ||

One who meditates on the One God in thought, word and deed

ਸਰਬ ਫਲਾ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੬॥

सरब फला सोई जनु पाए ॥६॥

Sarab phalaa soee janu paae ||6||

- that humble being receives the fruits of all rewards. ||6||


ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥

धारि अनुग्रहु अपना प्रभि कीना ॥

Dhaari anugrhu apanaa prbhi keenaa ||

Showering His Mercy, God has made me His own;

ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਦੀਨਾ ॥੭॥

केवल नामु भगति रसु दीना ॥७॥

Keval naamu bhagati rasu deenaa ||7||

He has blessed me with the unique and singular Naam, and the sublime essence of devotion. ||7||


ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

आदि मधि अंति प्रभु सोई ॥

Aadi madhi antti prbhu soee ||

In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, He is God.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥

नानक तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोई ॥८॥१॥२॥

Naanak tisu binu avaru na koee ||8||1||2||

O Nanak, without Him, there is no other at all. ||8||1||2||

जिन डिठिआ मनु रहसीऐ किउ पाईऐ तिन्ह संगु जीउ ॥

Jin dithiaa manu rahaseeai kiu paaeeai tinh sanggu jeeu ||

Gazing upon them, my mind is enraptured. How can I join them and be with them?

ਸੰਤ ਸਜਨ ਮਨ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੇ ਲਾਇਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

संत सजन मन मित्र से लाइनि प्रभ सिउ रंगु जीउ ॥

Santt sajan man mitr se laaini prbh siu ranggu jeeu ||

They are Saints and friends, good friends of my mind, who inspire me and help me tune in to God's Love.

ਤਿਨੑ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੰਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

तिन्ह सिउ प्रीति न तुटई कबहु न होवै भंगु जीउ ॥१॥

Tinh siu preeti na tutaee kabahu na hovai bhanggu jeeu ||1||

My love for them shall never die; it shall never, ever be broken. ||1||


ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਜੀਉ ॥

पारब्रहम प्रभ करि दइआ गुण गावा तेरे नित जीउ ॥

Paarabrham prbh kari daiaa gu(nn) gaavaa tere nit jeeu ||

O Supreme Lord God, please grant me Your Grace, that I might constantly sing Your Glorious Praises.

ਆਇ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਸਜਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹ ਮਨ ਮਿਤ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आइ मिलहु संत सजणा नामु जपह मन मित जीउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Aai milahu santt saja(nn)aa naamu japah man mit jeeu ||1|| rahaau ||

Come, and meet with me, O Saints, and good friends; let us chant and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Best Friend of my mind. ||1|| Pause ||


ਦੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੇ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਅੰਧੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

देखै सुणे न जाणई माइआ मोहिआ अंधु जीउ ॥

Dekhai su(nn)e na jaa(nn)aee maaiaa mohiaa anddhu jeeu ||

He does not see, he does not hear, and he does not understand; he is blind, enticed and bewitched by Maya.
