Raagu soohee mahalaa 1 chaupade gharu 1

Raag Soohee, First Mehl, Chau-Padas, First House:

ਭਾਂਡਾ ਧੋਇ ਬੈਸਿ ਧੂਪੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਤਉ ਦੂਧੈ ਕਉ ਜਾਵਹੁ ॥

भांडा धोइ बैसि धूपु देवहु तउ दूधै कउ जावहु ॥

Bhaandaa dhoi baisi dhoopu devahu tau doodhai kau jaavahu ||

Wash the vessel, sit down and anoint it with fragrance; then, go out and get the milk.

ਦੂਧੁ ਕਰਮ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਜਮਾਵਹੁ ॥੧॥

दूधु करम फुनि सुरति समाइणु होइ निरास जमावहु ॥१॥

Doodhu karam phuni surati samaai(nn)u hoi niraas jamaavahu ||1||

Add the rennet of clear consciousness to the milk of good deeds, and then, free of desire, let it curdle. ||1||

ਜਪਹੁ ਤ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥

जपहु त एको नामा ॥

Japahu ta eko naamaa ||

Chant the Name of the One Lord.

ਅਵਰਿ ਨਿਰਾਫਲ ਕਾਮਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अवरि निराफल कामा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Avari niraaphal kaamaa ||1|| rahaau ||

All other actions are fruitless. ||1|| Pause ||

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਈਟੀ ਹਾਥਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਉ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

इहु मनु ईटी हाथि करहु फुनि नेत्रउ नीद न आवै ॥

Ihu manu eetee haathi karahu phuni netru need na aavai ||

Let your mind be the handles, and then churn it, without sleeping.

ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਤਬ ਮਥੀਐ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥

रसना नामु जपहु तब मथीऐ इन बिधि अम्रितु पावहु ॥२॥

Rasanaa naamu japahu tab matheeai in bidhi ammmritu paavahu ||2||

If you chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord ,with your tongue, then the curd will be churned. In this way, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained. ||2||

ਮਨੁ ਸੰਪਟੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਭਾਵਨ ਪਾਤੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕਰੇ ॥

मनु स्मपटु जितु सत सरि नावणु भावन पाती त्रिपति करे ॥

Manu samppatu jitu sat sari naava(nn)u bhaavan paatee tripati kare ||

Wash your mind in the pool of Truth, and let it be the vessel of the Lord; let this be your offering to please Him.

ਪੂਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਸੇਵੇ ਇਨੑ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਵਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥੩॥

पूजा प्राण सेवकु जे सेवे इन्ह बिधि साहिबु रवतु रहै ॥३॥

Poojaa praa(nn) sevaku je seve inh bidhi saahibu ravatu rahai ||3||

That humble servant who dedicates and offers his life, and who serves in this way, remains absorbed in his Lord and Master. ||3||

ਕਹਦੇ ਕਹਹਿ ਕਹੇ ਕਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

कहदे कहहि कहे कहि जावहि तुम सरि अवरु न कोई ॥

Kahade kahahi kahe kahi jaavahi tum sari avaru na koee ||

The speakers speak and speak and speak, and then they depart. There is no other to compare to You.

ਭਗਤਿ ਹੀਣੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਜੰਪੈ ਹਉ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੧॥

भगति हीणु नानकु जनु ज्मपै हउ सालाही सचा सोई ॥४॥१॥

Bhagati hee(nn)u naanaku janu jamppai hau saalaahee sachaa soee ||4||1||

Servant Nanak, lacking devotion, humbly prays: may I sing the Praises of the True Lord. ||4||1||

अंतरि वसै न बाहरि जाइ ॥

Anttari vasai na baahari jaai ||

Deep within the self, the Lord abides; do not go outside looking for Him.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੧॥

अम्रितु छोडि काहे बिखु खाइ ॥१॥

Ammmritu chhodi kaahe bikhu khaai ||1||

You have renounced the Ambrosial Nectar - why are you eating poison? ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥

ऐसा गिआनु जपहु मन मेरे ॥

Aisaa giaanu japahu man mere ||

Meditate on such spiritual wisdom, O my mind,

ਹੋਵਹੁ ਚਾਕਰ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

होवहु चाकर साचे केरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hovahu chaakar saache kere ||1|| rahaau ||

And become the slave of the True Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਰਵੈ ॥

गिआनु धिआनु सभु कोई रवै ॥

Giaanu dhiaanu sabhu koee ravai ||

Everyone speaks of wisdom and meditation;

ਬਾਂਧਨਿ ਬਾਂਧਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਭਵੈ ॥੨॥

बांधनि बांधिआ सभु जगु भवै ॥२॥

Baandhani baandhiaa sabhu jagu bhavai ||2||

But bound in bondage, the whole world is wandering around in confusion. ||2||

ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਚਾਕਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

सेवा करे सु चाकरु होइ ॥

Sevaa kare su chaakaru hoi ||

One who serves the Lord is His servant.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

जलि थलि महीअलि रवि रहिआ सोइ ॥३॥

Jali thali maheeali ravi rahiaa soi ||3||

The Lord is pervading and permeating the water, the land, and the sky. ||3||

ਹਮ ਨਹੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਬੁਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

हम नही चंगे बुरा नही कोइ ॥

Ham nahee changge buraa nahee koi ||

I am not good; no one is bad.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੨॥

प्रणवति नानकु तारे सोइ ॥४॥१॥२॥

उजलु कैहा चिलकणा घोटिम कालड़ी मसु ॥

Ujalu kaihaa chilaka(nn)aa ghotim kaala(rr)ee masu ||

Bronze is bright and shiny, but when it is rubbed, its blackness appears.

ਧੋਤਿਆ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਾ ਤਿਸੁ ॥੧॥

धोतिआ जूठि न उतरै जे सउ धोवा तिसु ॥१॥

Dhotiaa joothi na utarai je sau dhovaa tisu ||1||

Washing it, its impurity is not removed, even if it is washed a hundred times. ||1||

ਸਜਣ ਸੇਈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੰਨੑਿ ॥

सजण सेई नालि मै चलदिआ नालि चलंन्हि ॥

Saja(nn) seee naali mai chaladiaa naali chalannhi ||

They alone are my friends, who travel along with me;

ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਖੜੇ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिथै लेखा मंगीऐ तिथै खड़े दिसंनि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jithai lekhaa manggeeai tithai kha(rr)e disanni ||1|| rahaau ||

And in that place, where the accounts are called for, they appear standing with me. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕੋਠੇ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਾੜੀਆ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਵੀਆਹਾ ॥

कोठे मंडप माड़ीआ पासहु चितवीआहा ॥

Kothe manddap maa(rr)eeaa paasahu chitaveeaahaa ||

There are houses, mansions and tall buildings, painted on all sides;

ਢਠੀਆ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੑੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਸਖਣੀਆਹਾ ॥੨॥

ढठीआ कमि न आवन्ही विचहु सखणीआहा ॥२॥

Dhatheeaa kammi na aavanhee vichahu sakha(nn)eeaahaa ||2||

But they are empty within, and they crumble like useless ruins. ||2||

ਬਗਾ ਬਗੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਸੰਨੑਿ ॥

बगा बगे कपड़े तीरथ मंझि वसंन्हि ॥

Bagaa bage kapa(rr)e teerath manjjhi vasannhi ||

The herons in their white feathers dwell in the sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਘੁਟਿ ਘੁਟਿ ਜੀਆ ਖਾਵਣੇ ਬਗੇ ਨਾ ਕਹੀਅਨੑਿ ॥੩॥

घुटि घुटि जीआ खावणे बगे ना कहीअन्हि ॥३॥

Ghuti ghuti jeeaa khaava(nn)e bage naa kaheeanhi ||3||

They tear apart and eat the living beings, and so they are not called white. ||3||

ਸਿੰਮਲ ਰੁਖੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਮੈ ਮੈਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੰਨੑਿ ॥

सिमल रुखु सरीरु मै मैजन देखि भुलंन्हि ॥

Simmmal rukhu sareeru mai maijan dekhi bhulannhi ||

My body is like the simmal tree; seeing me, other people are fooled.

ਸੇ ਫਲ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੑੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਹੰਨੑਿ ॥੪॥

से फल कमि न आवन्ही ते गुण मै तनि हंन्हि ॥४॥

Se phal kammi na aavanhee te gu(nn) mai tani hannhi ||4||

Its fruits are useless - just like the qualities of my body. ||4||

ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਇਆ ਡੂਗਰ ਵਾਟ ਬਹੁਤੁ ॥

अंधुलै भारु उठाइआ डूगर वाट बहुतु ॥

Anddhulai bhaaru uthaaiaa doogar vaat bahutu ||

The blind man is carrying such a heavy load, and his journey through the mountains is so long.

ਅਖੀ ਲੋੜੀ ਨਾ ਲਹਾ ਹਉ ਚੜਿ ਲੰਘਾ ਕਿਤੁ ॥੫॥

अखी लोड़ी ना लहा हउ चड़ि लंघा कितु ॥५॥

Akhee lo(rr)ee naa lahaa hau cha(rr)i langghaa kitu ||5||

My eyes can see, but I cannot find the Way. How can I climb up and cross over the mountain? ||5||

ਚਾਕਰੀਆ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਿਤੁ ॥

चाकरीआ चंगिआईआ अवर सिआणप कितु ॥

Chaakareeaa changgiaaeeaa avar siaa(nn)ap kitu ||

What good does it do to serve, and be good, and be clever?

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਧਾ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ॥੬॥੧॥੩॥

नानक नामु समालि तूं बधा छुटहि जितु ॥६॥१॥३॥

Naanak naamu samaali toonn badhaa chhutahi jitu ||6||1||3||

O Nanak, contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall be released from bondage. ||6||1||3||

ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਾ ਬੰਧੁ ਬੇੜੁਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲੰਘਹਿ ਵਹੇਲਾ ॥

जप तप का बंधु बेड़ुला जितु लंघहि वहेला ॥

Jap tap kaa banddhu be(rr)ulaa jitu langghahi vahelaa ||

Build the raft of meditation and self-discipline, to carry you across the river.

ਨਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਨਾ ਊਛਲੈ ਐਸਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥

ना सरवरु ना ऊछलै ऐसा पंथु सुहेला ॥१॥

Naa saravaru naa uchhalai aisaa pantthu suhelaa ||1||

There will be no ocean, and no rising tides to stop you; this is how comfortable your path shall be. ||1||

ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਜੀਠੜਾ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੋਲਾ ਸਦ ਰੰਗ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तेरा एको नामु मंजीठड़ा रता मेरा चोला सद रंग ढोला ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Teraa eko naamu manjjeetha(rr)aa rataa meraa cholaa sad rangg dholaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Your Name alone is the color, in which the robe of my body is dyed. This color is permanent, O my Beloved. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਾਜਨ ਚਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥

साजन चले पिआरिआ किउ मेला होई ॥

Saajan chale piaariaa kiu melaa hoee ||

My beloved friends have departed; how will they meet the Lord?

ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੰਠੜੀਐ ਮੇਲੇਗਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥

जे गुण होवहि गंठड़ीऐ मेलेगा सोई ॥२॥

Je gu(nn) hovahi ganttha(rr)eeai melegaa soee ||2||

If they have virtue in their pack, the Lord will unite them with Himself. ||2||

ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥

मिलिआ होइ न वीछुड़ै जे मिलिआ होई ॥

Miliaa hoi na veechhu(rr)ai je miliaa hoee ||

Once united with Him, they will not be separated again, if they are truly united.

ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥

आवा गउणु निवारिआ है साचा सोई ॥३॥

Aavaa gau(nn)u nivaariaa hai saachaa soee ||3||

The True Lord brings their comings and goings to an end. ||3||

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਸੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਚੋਲਾ ॥

हउमै मारि निवारिआ सीता है चोला ॥

Haumai maari nivaariaa seetaa hai cholaa ||

One who subdues and eradicates egotism, sews the robe of devotion.

ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹ ਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੋਲਾ ॥੪॥

गुर बचनी फलु पाइआ सह के अम्रित बोला ॥४॥

Gur bachanee phalu paaiaa sah ke ammmrit bolaa ||4||

Following the Word of the Guru's Teachings, she receives the fruits of her reward, the Ambrosial Words of the Lord. ||4||

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਹੁ ਖਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

नानकु कहै सहेलीहो सहु खरा पिआरा ॥

Naanaku kahai saheleeho sahu kharaa piaaraa ||

Says Nanak, O soul-brides, our Husband Lord is so dear!

ਹਮ ਸਹ ਕੇਰੀਆ ਦਾਸੀਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੫॥੨॥੪॥

हम सह केरीआ दासीआ साचा खसमु हमारा ॥५॥२॥४॥

Ham sah kereeaa daaseeaa saachaa khasamu hamaaraa ||5||2||4||

We are the servants, the hand-maidens of the Lord; He is our True Lord and Master. ||5||2||4||

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Soohee mahalaa 1 ||

Soohee, First Mehl:

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਵਾਰਸੀ ॥

जिन कउ भांडै भाउ तिना सवारसी ॥

Jin kau bhaandai bhaau tinaa savaarasee ||

Those whose minds are filled with love of the Lord, are blessed and exalted.

ਸੂਖੀ ਕਰੈ ਪਸਾਉ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਸੀ ॥

सूखी करै पसाउ दूख विसारसी ॥

Sookhee karai pasaau dookh visaarasee ||

They are blessed with peace, and their pains are forgotten.

ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਤਾਰਸੀ ॥੧॥

सहसा मूले नाहि सरपर तारसी ॥१॥

Sahasaa moole naahi sarapar taarasee ||1||

He will undoubtedly, certainly save them. ||1||

ਤਿਨੑਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲੀਖਿਆ ॥

तिन्हा मिलिआ गुरु आइ जिन कउ लीखिआ ॥

Tinhaa miliaa guru aai jin kau leekhiaa ||

The Guru comes to meet those whose destiny is so pre-ordained.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਖਿਆ ॥

अम्रितु हरि का नाउ देवै दीखिआ ॥

Ammmritu hari kaa naau devai deekhiaa ||

He blesses them with the Teachings of the Ambrosial Name of the Lord.

ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਭਵਹਿ ਨ ਭੀਖਿਆ ॥੨॥

चालहि सतिगुर भाइ भवहि न भीखिआ ॥२॥

Chaalahi satigur bhaai bhavahi na bheekhiaa ||2||

Those who walk in the Will of the True Guru, never wander begging. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਿਵੈ ਕਿਸੁ ॥

जा कउ महलु हजूरि दूजे निवै किसु ॥

Jaa kau mahalu hajoori dooje nivai kisu ||

And one who lives in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, why should he bow down to any other?

ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵਾਣੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਮੂਲੇ ਪੁਛ ਤਿਸੁ ॥

दरि दरवाणी नाहि मूले पुछ तिसु ॥

Dari daravaa(nn)ee naahi moole puchh tisu ||

The gate-keeper at the Lord's Gate shall not stop him to ask any questions.

ਛੁਟੈ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਦਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ॥੩॥

छुटै ता कै बोलि साहिब नदरि जिसु ॥३॥

Chhutai taa kai boli saahib nadari jisu ||3||

And one who is blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace - by his words, others are emancipated as well. ||3||

ਘਲੇ ਆਣੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਮਤੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

घले आणे आपि जिसु नाही दूजा मतै कोइ ॥

Ghale aa(nn)e aapi jisu naahee doojaa matai koi ||

The Lord Himself sends out, and recalls the mortal beings; no one else gives Him advice.

ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਸੋਇ ॥

ढाहि उसारे साजि जाणै सभ सोइ ॥

Dhaahi usaare saaji jaa(nn)ai sabh soi ||

He Himself demolishes, constructs and creates; He knows everything.

ਨਾਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥

नाउ नानक बखसीस नदरी करमु होइ ॥४॥३॥५॥

Naau naanak bakhasees nadaree karamu hoi ||4||3||5||

Soohee mahalaa 1 ||

Soohee, First Mehl:

ਭਾਂਡਾ ਹਛਾ ਸੋਇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ॥

भांडा हछा सोइ जो तिसु भावसी ॥

Bhaandaa hachhaa soi jo tisu bhaavasee ||

That vessel alone is pure, which is pleasing to Him.

ਭਾਂਡਾ ਅਤਿ ਮਲੀਣੁ ਧੋਤਾ ਹਛਾ ਨ ਹੋਇਸੀ ॥

भांडा अति मलीणु धोता हछा न होइसी ॥

Bhaandaa ati malee(nn)u dhotaa hachhaa na hoisee ||

The filthiest vessel does not become pure, simply by being washed.

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹੋਇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇਸੀ ॥

गुरू दुआरै होइ सोझी पाइसी ॥

Guroo duaarai hoi sojhee paaisee ||

Through the Gurdwara the Guru's Gate one obtains understanding.

ਏਤੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਧੋਇ ਹਛਾ ਹੋਇਸੀ ॥

एतु दुआरै धोइ हछा होइसी ॥

Etu duaarai dhoi hachhaa hoisee ||

By being washed through this Gate, it becomes pure.

ਮੈਲੇ ਹਛੇ ਕਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਾਇਸੀ ॥

मैले हछे का वीचारु आपि वरताइसी ॥

Maile hachhe kaa veechaaru aapi varataaisee ||

The Lord Himself sets the standards to differentiate between the dirty and the pure.

ਮਤੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਇ ਅਗੈ ਪਾਇਸੀ ॥

मतु को जाणै जाइ अगै पाइसी ॥

Matu ko jaa(nn)ai jaai agai paaisee ||

Do not think that you will automatically find a place of rest hereafter.

ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ਤੇਹਾ ਹੋਇਸੀ ॥

जेहे करम कमाइ तेहा होइसी ॥

Jehe karam kamaai tehaa hoisee ||

According to the actions one has committed, so does the mortal become.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਾਇਸੀ ॥

अम्रितु हरि का नाउ आपि वरताइसी ॥

Ammmritu hari kaa naau aapi varataaisee ||

He Himself bestows the Ambrosial Name of the Lord.

ਚਲਿਆ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਵਾਜਾ ਵਾਇਸੀ ॥

चलिआ पति सिउ जनमु सवारि वाजा वाइसी ॥

Chaliaa pati siu janamu savaari vaajaa vaaisee ||

Such a mortal departs with honor and renown; his life is embellished and redeemed, and the trumpets resound with his glory.

ਮਾਣਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣਾਇਸੀ ॥

माणसु किआ वेचारा तिहु लोक सुणाइसी ॥

Maa(nn)asu kiaa vechaaraa tihu lok su(nn)aaisee ||

Why speak of poor mortals? His glory shall echo throughout the three worlds.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰਸੀ ॥੧॥੪॥੬॥

नानक आपि निहाल सभि कुल तारसी ॥१॥४॥६॥

Naanak aapi nihaal sabhi kul taarasee ||1||4||6||

O Nanak, he himself shall be enraptured, and he shall save his entire ancestry. ||1||4||6||

Soohee, First Mehl:

ਜੋਗੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋਗਵੈ ਭੋਗੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਖਾਇ ॥

जोगी होवै जोगवै भोगी होवै खाइ ॥

Jogee hovai jogavai bhogee hovai khaai ||

The Yogi practices yoga, and the pleasure-seeker practices eating.

ਤਪੀਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਪੁ ਕਰੇ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥

तपीआ होवै तपु करे तीरथि मलि मलि नाइ ॥१॥

Tapeeaa hovai tapu kare teerathi mali mali naai ||1||

The austere practice austerities, bathing and rubbing themselves at sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ||1||

ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦੜਾ ਸੁਣੀਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬਹੈ ਅਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तेरा सदड़ा सुणीजै भाई जे को बहै अलाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Teraa sada(rr)aa su(nn)eejai bhaaee je ko bahai alaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Let me hear some news of You, O Beloved; if only someone would come and sit with me, and tell me. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੈਸਾ ਬੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਲੁਣੇ ਜੋ ਖਟੇ ਸੋੁ ਖਾਇ ॥

जैसा बीजै सो लुणे जो खटे सो खाइ ॥

Jaisaa beejai so lu(nn)e jo khate sao khaai ||

As one plants, so does he harvest; whatever he earns, he eats.

ਅਗੈ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸਣੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

अगै पुछ न होवई जे सणु नीसाणै जाइ ॥२॥

Agai puchh na hovaee je sa(nn)u neesaa(nn)ai jaai ||2||

In the world hereafter, his account is not called for, if he goes with the insignia of the Lord. ||2||

ਤੈਸੋ ਜੈਸਾ ਕਾਢੀਐ ਜੈਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

तैसो जैसा काढीऐ जैसी कार कमाइ ॥

Taiso jaisaa kaadheeai jaisee kaar kamaai ||

According to the actions the mortal commits, so is he proclaimed.

ਜੋ ਦਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਸੋ ਦਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

जो दमु चिति न आवई सो दमु बिरथा जाइ ॥३॥

Jo damu chiti na aavaee so damu birathaa jaai ||3||

And that breath which is drawn without thinking of the Lord, that breath goes in vain. ||3||

ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਵੇਚੀ ਬੈ ਕਰੀ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਲਏ ਵਿਕਾਇ ॥

इहु तनु वेची बै करी जे को लए विकाइ ॥

Ihu tanu vechee bai karee je ko lae vikaai ||

I would sell this body, if someone would only purchase it.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੫॥੭॥

नानक कमि न आवई जितु तनि नाही सचा नाउ ॥४॥५॥७॥

Naanak kammi na aavaee jitu tani naahee sachaa naau ||4||5||7||

O Nanak, that body is of no use at all, if it does not enshrine the Name of the True Lord. ||4||5||7||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਡੰਡੈ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਭਸਮ ਚੜਾਈਐ ॥

जोगु न खिंथा जोगु न डंडै जोगु न भसम चड़ाईऐ ॥

Jogu na khintthaa jogu na danddai jogu na bhasam cha(rr)aaeeai ||

Yoga is not the patched coat, Yoga is not the walking stick. Yoga is not smearing the body with ashes.

ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਮੁੰਦੀ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਮੁਡਾਇਐ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਵਾਈਐ ॥

जोगु न मुंदी मूंडि मुडाइऐ जोगु न सिंङी वाईऐ ॥

Jogu na munddee moonddi mudaaiai jogu na sin(ng)(ng)ee vaaeeai ||

Yoga is not the ear-rings, and not the shaven head. Yoga is not the blowing of the horn.

ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਇਵ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥

अंजन माहि निरंजनि रहीऐ जोग जुगति इव पाईऐ ॥१॥

Anjjan maahi niranjjani raheeai jog jugati iv paaeeai ||1||

Remaining unblemished in the midst of the filth of the world - this is the way to attain Yoga. ||1||

ਗਲੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

गली जोगु न होई ॥

Galee jogu na hoee ||

By mere words, Yoga is not attained.

ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

एक द्रिसटि करि समसरि जाणै जोगी कहीऐ सोई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ek drisati kari samasari jaa(nn)ai jogee kaheeai soee ||1|| rahaau ||

One who looks upon all with a single eye, and knows them to be one and the same - he alone is known as a Yogi. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈਐ ॥

जोगु न बाहरि मड़ी मसाणी जोगु न ताड़ी लाईऐ ॥

Jogu na baahari ma(rr)ee masaa(nn)ee jogu na taa(rr)ee laaeeai ||

Yoga is not wandering to the tombs of the dead; Yoga is not sitting in trances.

ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਦੇਸਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਭਵਿਐ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਈਐ ॥

जोगु न देसि दिसंतरि भविऐ जोगु न तीरथि नाईऐ ॥

Jogu na desi disanttari bhaviai jogu na teerathi naaeeai ||

Yoga is not wandering through foreign lands; Yoga is not bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਇਵ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

अंजन माहि निरंजनि रहीऐ जोग जुगति इव पाईऐ ॥२॥

सतिगुरु भेटै ता सहसा तूटै धावतु वरजि रहाईऐ ॥

Satiguru bhetai taa sahasaa tootai dhaavatu varaji rahaaeeai ||

Meeting with the True Guru, doubt is dispelled, and the wandering mind is restrained.

ਨਿਝਰੁ ਝਰੈ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

निझरु झरै सहज धुनि लागै घर ही परचा पाईऐ ॥

Nijharu jharai sahaj dhuni laagai ghar hee parachaa paaeeai ||

Nectar rains down, celestial music resounds, and deep within, wisdom is obtained.

ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਇਵ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੩॥

अंजन माहि निरंजनि रहीऐ जोग जुगति इव पाईऐ ॥३॥

नानक जीवतिआ मरि रहीऐ ऐसा जोगु कमाईऐ ॥

Naanak jeevatiaa mari raheeai aisaa jogu kamaaeeai ||

O Nanak, remain dead while yet alive - practice such a Yoga.

ਵਾਜੇ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਵਾਜੈ ਤਉ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

वाजे बाझहु सिंङी वाजै तउ निरभउ पदु पाईऐ ॥

Vaaje baajhahu sin(ng)(ng)ee vaajai tau nirabhau padu paaeeai ||

When the horn is blown without being blown, then you shall attain the state of fearless dignity.

ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਤਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੧॥੮॥

कउण तराजी कवणु तुला तेरा कवणु सराफु बुलावा ॥

Kau(nn) taraajee kava(nn)u tulaa teraa kava(nn)u saraaphu bulaavaa ||

What scale, what weights, and what assayer shall I call for You, Lord?

ਕਉਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਲੇਵਾ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਮੁਲੁ ਕਰਾਵਾ ॥੧॥

कउणु गुरू कै पहि दीखिआ लेवा कै पहि मुलु करावा ॥१॥

Kau(nn)u guroo kai pahi deekhiaa levaa kai pahi mulu karaavaa ||1||

From what guru should I receive instruction? By whom should I have Your value appraised? ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ॥

मेरे लाल जीउ तेरा अंतु न जाणा ॥

Mere laal jeeu teraa anttu na jaa(nn)aa ||

O my Dear Beloved Lord, Your limits are not known.

ਤੂੰ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तूं जलि थलि महीअलि भरिपुरि लीणा तूं आपे सरब समाणा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Toonn jali thali maheeali bharipuri lee(nn)aa toonn aape sarab samaa(nn)aa ||1|| rahaau ||

You pervade the water, the land, and the sky; You Yourself are All-pervading. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਨੁ ਤਾਰਾਜੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਤੁਲਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵ ਸਰਾਫੁ ਕਮਾਵਾ ॥

मनु ताराजी चितु तुला तेरी सेव सराफु कमावा ॥

Manu taaraajee chitu tulaa teree sev saraaphu kamaavaa ||

Mind is the scale, consciousness the weights, and the performance of Your service is the appraiser.

ਘਟ ਹੀ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਤੋਲੀ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਹਾਵਾ ॥੨॥

घट ही भीतरि सो सहु तोली इन बिधि चितु रहावा ॥२॥

Ghat hee bheetari so sahu tolee in bidhi chitu rahaavaa ||2||

Deep within my heart, I weigh my Husband Lord; in this way I focus my consciousness. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਕੰਡਾ ਤੋਲੁ ਤਰਾਜੀ ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

आपे कंडा तोलु तराजी आपे तोलणहारा ॥

Aape kanddaa tolu taraajee aape tola(nn)ahaaraa ||

You Yourself are the balance, the weights and the scale; You Yourself are the weigher.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

आपे देखै आपे बूझै आपे है वणजारा ॥३॥

Aape dekhai aape boojhai aape hai va(nn)ajaaraa ||3||

You Yourself see, and You Yourself understand; You Yourself are the trader. ||3||

ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਖਿਨੁ ਆਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

अंधुला नीच जाति परदेसी खिनु आवै तिलु जावै ॥

Anddhulaa neech jaati paradesee khinu aavai tilu jaavai ||

The blind, low class wandering soul, comes for a moment, and departs in an instant.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਰਹਦਾ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਮੂੜਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੯॥

ता की संगति नानकु रहदा किउ करि मूड़ा पावै ॥४॥२॥९॥

Taa kee sanggati naanaku rahadaa kiu kari moo(rr)aa paavai ||4||2||9||

In its company, Nanak dwells; how can the fool attain the Lord? ||4||2||9||

ਮਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ॥

मनि राम नामु आराधिआ गुर सबदि गुरू गुर के ॥

Mani raam naamu aaraadhiaa gur sabadi guroo gur ke ||

My mind worships and adores the Lord's Name,through the Guru,and the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸਭਿ ਇਛਾ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਚੂਕਾ ਡਰੁ ਜਮ ਕੇ ॥੧॥

सभि इछा मनि तनि पूरीआ सभु चूका डरु जम के ॥१॥

Sabhi ichhaa mani tani pooreeaa sabhu chookaa daru jam ke ||1||

All the desires of my mind and body have been fulfilled; all fear of death has been dispelled. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ॥

मेरे मन गुण गावहु राम नाम हरि के ॥

Mere man gu(nn) gaavahu raam naam hari ke ||

O my mind, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name.

ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪੀਆ ਰਸੁ ਗਟਕੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरि तुठै मनु परबोधिआ हरि पीआ रसु गटके ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guri tuthai manu parabodhiaa hari peeaa rasu gatake ||1|| rahaau ||

And when the Guru is pleased and satisfied, the mind is instructed; it then joyfully drinks in the subtle essence of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇਰੀ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ॥

सतसंगति ऊतम सतिगुर केरी गुन गावै हरि प्रभ के ॥

Satasanggati utam satigur keree gun gaavai hari prbh ke ||

The Sat Sangat, the True Congregation of the True Guru, is sublime and exalted. They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord God.

ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਮ ਧੋਵਹ ਪਗ ਜਨ ਕੇ ॥੨॥

हरि किरपा धारि मेलहु सतसंगति हम धोवह पग जन के ॥२॥

Hari kirapaa dhaari melahu satasanggati ham dhovah pag jan ke ||2||

Bless me with Your Mercy, Lord, and unite me with the Sat Sangat; I wash the feet of Your humble servants. ||2||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਰਸੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਸਕੇ ॥

राम नामु सभु है राम नामा रसु गुरमति रसु रसके ॥

Raam naamu sabhu hai raam naamaa rasu guramati rasu rasake ||

The Lord's Name is all. The Lord's Name is the essence of the Guru's Teachings, the juice, the sweetness of it.

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਲਾਥੀ ਤਿਸ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ॥੩॥

हरि अम्रितु हरि जलु पाइआ सभ लाथी तिस तिस के ॥३॥

Hari ammmritu hari jalu paaiaa sabh laathee tis tis ke ||3||

I have found the Ambrosial Nectar, the Divine Water of the Lord's Name, and all my thirst for it is quenched. ||3||

ਹਮਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਾਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹਮ ਵੇਚਿਓ ਸਿਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ॥

हमरी जाति पाति गुरु सतिगुरु हम वेचिओ सिरु गुर के ॥

Hamaree jaati paati guru satiguru ham vechio siru gur ke ||

The Guru, the True Guru, is my social status and honor; I have sold my head to the Guru.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲਾ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਲਾਜ ਜਨ ਕੇ ॥੪॥੧॥

जन नानक नामु परिओ गुर चेला गुर राखहु लाज जन के ॥४॥१॥

Jan naanak naamu pario gur chelaa gur raakhahu laaj jan ke ||4||1||

Servant Nanak is called the chaylaa, the disciple of the Guru; O Guru, save the honor of Your servant. ||4||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਜਿਓ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਦਾਲਦ ਦਲਘਾ ॥

हरि हरि नामु भजिओ पुरखोतमु सभि बिनसे दालद दलघा ॥

Hari hari naamu bhajio purakhotamu sabhi binase daalad dalaghaa ||

I chant and vibrate the Name of the Lord God, the Supreme Being, Har, Har; my poverty and problems have all been eradicated.

ਭਉ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੇਟਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਘਾ ॥੧॥

भउ जनम मरणा मेटिओ गुर सबदी हरि असथिरु सेवि सुखि समघा ॥१॥

Bhau janam mara(nn)aa metio gur sabadee hari asathiru sevi sukhi samaghaa ||1||

The fear of birth and death has been erased,through the Word of the Guru's Shabad; serving the Unmoving,Unchanging Lord, I am absorbed in peace. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਰਘਾ ॥

मेरे मन भजु राम नाम अति पिरघा ॥

Mere man bhaju raam naam ati piraghaa ||

O my mind, vibrate the Name of the most Beloved, Darling Lord.

ਮੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਵੇਚਿ ਲੀਓ ਮੁਲਿ ਮਹਘਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मै मनु तनु अरपि धरिओ गुर आगै सिरु वेचि लीओ मुलि महघा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Mai manu tanu arapi dhario gur aagai siru vechi leeo muli mahaghaa ||1|| rahaau ||

I have dedicated my mind and body, and placed them in offering before the Guru; I have sold my head to the Guru, for a very dear price. ||1|| Pause ||

ਨਰਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਕੜਿ ਖੜੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਲਘਾ ॥

नरपति राजे रंग रस माणहि बिनु नावै पकड़ि खड़े सभि कलघा ॥

Narapati raaje rangg ras maa(nn)ahi binu naavai paka(rr)i kha(rr)e sabhi kalaghaa ||

The kings and the rulers of men enjoy pleasures and delights, but without the Name of the Lord, death seizes and dispatches them all.

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡੁ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ਹਥ ਫਲਘਾ ॥੨॥

धरम राइ सिरि डंडु लगाना फिरि पछुताने हथ फलघा ॥२॥

Dharam raai siri danddu lagaanaa phiri pachhutaane hath phalaghaa ||2||

The Righteous Judge of Dharma strikes them over the heads with his staff, and when the fruits of their actions come into their hands, then they regret and repent. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਜਨ ਕਿਰਮ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਲਘਾ ॥

हरि राखु राखु जन किरम तुमारे सरणागति पुरख प्रतिपलघा ॥

Hari raakhu raakhu jan kiram tumaare sara(nn)aagati purakh prtipalaghaa ||

Save me, save me, Lord; I am Your humble servant, a mere worm. I seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary, O Primal Lord, Cherisher and Nourisher.

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਦੇਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲੋਚ ਪੂਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਤੁਮਘਾ ॥੩॥

दरसनु संत देहु सुखु पावै प्रभ लोच पूरि जनु तुमघा ॥३॥

Darasanu santt dehu sukhu paavai prbh loch poori janu tumaghaa ||3||

Please bless me with the Blessed Vision of the Saint's Darshan,that I may find peace. O God,please fulfill the desires of Your humble servant. ||3||

ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਘਾ ॥

तुम समरथ पुरख वडे प्रभ सुआमी मो कउ कीजै दानु हरि निमघा ॥

Tum samarath purakh vade prbh suaamee mo kau keejai daanu hari nimaghaa ||

You are the All-powerful, Great, Primal God, my Lord and Master. O Lord, please bless me with the gift of humility.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਹਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਸਦ ਘੁਮਘਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

जन नानक नामु मिलै सुखु पावै हम नाम विटहु सद घुमघा ॥४॥२॥

Jan naanak naamu milai sukhu paavai ham naam vitahu sad ghumaghaa ||4||2||

Servant Nanak has found the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and is at peace; I am forever a sacrifice to the Naam. ||4||2||

Soohee, Fourth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਙੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਙੁ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਙੁ ॥

हरि नामा हरि रंङु है हरि रंङु मजीठै रंङु ॥

Hari naamaa hari ran(ng)(ng)u hai hari ran(ng)(ng)u majeethai ran(ng)(ng)u ||

The Lord's Name is the Love of the Lord. The Lord's Love is the permanent color.

ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚਾੜਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਭੰਙੁ ॥੧॥

गुरि तुठै हरि रंगु चाड़िआ फिरि बहुड़ि न होवी भंङु ॥१॥

Guri tuthai hari ranggu chaa(rr)iaa phiri bahu(rr)i na hovee bhan(ng)(ng)u ||1||

When the Guru is totally satisfied and pleased, He colors us with the Lord's Love; this color shall never fade away. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਕਰਿ ਰੰਙੁ ॥

मेरे मन हरि राम नामि करि रंङु ॥

Mere man hari raam naami kari ran(ng)(ng)u ||

O my mind, enshrine love for the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਰਾਉ ਨਿਸੰਙੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरि तुठै हरि उपदेसिआ हरि भेटिआ राउ निसंङु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guri tuthai hari upadesiaa hari bhetiaa raau nisan(ng)(ng)u ||1|| rahaau ||

The Guru, satisfied and pleased, taught me about the Lord, and my Sovereign Lord King met with me at once. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੁੰਧ ਇਆਣੀ ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਅੰਙੁ ॥

मुंध इआणी मनमुखी फिरि आवण जाणा अंङु ॥

Munddh iaa(nn)ee manamukhee phiri aava(nn) jaa(nn)aa an(ng)(ng)u ||

The self-willed manmukh is like the ignorant bride, who comes and goes again and again in reincarnation.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਮਨਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਸਹਲੰਙੁ ॥੨॥

हरि प्रभु चिति न आइओ मनि दूजा भाउ सहलंङु ॥२॥

Hari prbhu chiti na aaio mani doojaa bhaau sahalan(ng)(ng)u ||2||

The Lord God does not come into her consciousness, and her mind is stuck in the love of duality. ||2||

ਹਮ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੇ ਦੁਹਚਾਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅੰਗੀ ਅੰਙੁ ॥

हम मैलु भरे दुहचारीआ हरि राखहु अंगी अंङु ॥

Ham mailu bhare duhachaareeaa hari raakhahu anggee an(ng)(ng)u ||

I am full of filth, and I practice evil deeds; O Lord, save me, be with me, merge me into Your Being!

ਗੁਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਵਲਾਇਆ ਸਭਿ ਲਾਥੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪੰਙੁ ॥੩॥

गुरि अम्रित सरि नवलाइआ सभि लाथे किलविख पंङु ॥३॥

Guri ammmrit sari navalaaiaa sabhi laathe kilavikh pan(ng)(ng)u ||3||

The Guru has bathed me in the pool of Ambrosial Nectar, and all my dirty sins and mistakes have been washed away. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸੰਙੁ ॥

हरि दीना दीन दइआल प्रभु सतसंगति मेलहु संङु ॥

Hari deenaa deen daiaal prbhu satasanggati melahu san(ng)(ng)u ||

O Lord God, Merciful to the meek and the poor, please unite me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰੰਙੁ ॥੪॥੩॥

मिलि संगति हरि रंगु पाइआ जन नानक मनि तनि रंङु ॥४॥३॥

Mili sanggati hari ranggu paaiaa jan naanak mani tani ran(ng)(ng)u ||4||3||

Joining the Sangat, servant Nanak has obtained the Lord's Love; my mind and body are drenched in it. ||4||3||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੁਧੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

हरि हरि करहि नित कपटु कमावहि हिरदा सुधु न होई ॥

Hari hari karahi nit kapatu kamaavahi hiradaa sudhu na hoee ||

One who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, while constantly practicing deception, shall never become pure of heart.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥

अनदिनु करम करहि बहुतेरे सुपनै सुखु न होई ॥१॥

Anadinu karam karahi bahutere supanai sukhu na hoee ||1||

He may perform all sorts of rituals, night and day, but he shall not find peace, even in dreams. ||1||

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

गिआनी गुर बिनु भगति न होई ॥

Giaanee gur binu bhagati na hoee ||

O wise ones, without the Guru, there is no devotional worship.

ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੜੈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कोरै रंगु कदे न चड़ै जे लोचै सभु कोई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Korai ranggu kade na cha(rr)ai je lochai sabhu koee ||1|| rahaau ||

The untreated cloth does not take up the dye, no matter how much everyone may wish it. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਪੁ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਵਰਤ ਕਰੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

जपु तप संजम वरत करे पूजा मनमुख रोगु न जाई ॥

Japu tap sanjjam varat kare poojaa manamukh rogu na jaaee ||

The self-willed manmukh may perform chants, meditations, austere self-discipline, fasts and devotional worship, but his sickness does not go away.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਹਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ॥੨॥

अंतरि रोगु महा अभिमाना दूजै भाइ खुआई ॥२॥

Anttari rogu mahaa abhimaanaa doojai bhaai khuaaee ||2||

Deep within him is the sickness of excessive egotism; in the love of duality he is ruined. ||2||

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਮਨੂਆ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥

बाहरि भेख बहुतु चतुराई मनूआ दह दिसि धावै ॥

Baahari bhekh bahutu chaturaaee manooaa dah disi dhaavai ||

Outwardly, he wears religious robes and he is very clever, but his mind wanders in the ten directions.

ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੑੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਆਵੈ ॥੩॥

हउमै बिआपिआ सबदु न चीन्है फिरि फिरि जूनी आवै ॥३॥

Haumai biaapiaa sabadu na cheenhai phiri phiri joonee aavai ||3||

Engrossed in ego, he does not remember the Word of the Shabad; over and over again, he is reincarnated. ||3||

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥

नानक नदरि करे सो बूझै सो जनु नामु धिआए ॥

Naanak nadari kare so boojhai so janu naamu dhiaae ||

O Nanak, that mortal who is blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace, understands Him; that humble servant meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਏਕਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥

गुर परसादी एको बूझै एकसु माहि समाए ॥४॥४॥

Gur parasaadee eko boojhai ekasu maahi samaae ||4||4||

By Guru's Grace, he understands the One Lord, and is absorbed into the One Lord. ||4||4||

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਗਰੀ ਖੋਜਿ ਖੋਜਾਈ ॥

गुरमति नगरी खोजि खोजाई ॥

Guramati nagaree khoji khojaaee ||

Following the Guru's Teachings, I searched and searched the body-village;

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥

हरि हरि नामु पदारथु पाई ॥१॥

Hari hari naamu padaarathu paaee ||1||

I found the wealth of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥

मेरै मनि हरि हरि सांति वसाई ॥

Merai mani hari hari saanti vasaaee ||

The Lord, Har, Har, has enshrined peace within my mind.

ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਖਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तिसना अगनि बुझी खिन अंतरि गुरि मिलिऐ सभ भुख गवाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tisanaa agani bujhee khin anttari guri miliai sabh bhukh gavaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

The fire of desire was extinguished in an instant, when I met the Guru; all my hunger has been satisfied. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਜੀਵਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

हरि गुण गावा जीवा मेरी माई ॥

Hari gu(nn) gaavaa jeevaa meree maaee ||

Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I live, O my mother.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥੨॥

सतिगुरि दइआलि गुण नामु द्रिड़ाई ॥२॥

Satiguri daiaali gu(nn) naamu dri(rr)aaee ||2||

The Merciful True Guru implanted the Glorious Praises of the Naam within me. ||2||

ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਢੂਢਿ ਢੂਢਾਈ ॥

हउ हरि प्रभु पिआरा ढूढि ढूढाई ॥

Hau hari prbhu piaaraa dhoodhi dhoodhaaee ||

I search for and seek out my Beloved Lord God, Har, Har.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥

सतसंगति मिलि हरि रसु पाई ॥३॥

Satasanggati mili hari rasu paaee ||3||

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I have obtained the subtle essence of the Lord. ||3||

ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

धुरि मसतकि लेख लिखे हरि पाई ॥

Dhuri masataki lekh likhe hari paaee ||

By the pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon my forehead, I have found the Lord.

ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਮੇਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥

गुरु नानकु तुठा मेलै हरि भाई ॥४॥१॥५॥

Guru naanaku tuthaa melai hari bhaaee ||4||1||5||

Guru Nanak, pleased and satisfied, has united me with the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny. ||4||1||5||

Hari kripaa kare mani hari ranggu laae ||

Showering His Mercy, the Lord imbues the mind with His Love.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੧॥

गुरमुखि हरि हरि नामि समाए ॥१॥

Guramukhi hari hari naami samaae ||1||

The Gurmukh merges in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣੇ ॥

हरि रंगि राता मनु रंग माणे ॥

Hari ranggi raataa manu rangg maa(nn)e ||

Imbued with the Lord's Love, the mortal enjoys the pleasure of His Love.

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सदा अनंदि रहै दिन राती पूरे गुर कै सबदि समाणे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sadaa ananddi rahai din raatee poore gur kai sabadi samaa(nn)e ||1|| rahaau ||

He remains always blissful, day and night, and he merges into the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਕਉ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥

हरि रंग कउ लोचै सभु कोई ॥

Hari rangg kau lochai sabhu koee ||

Everyone longs for the Lord's Love;

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚਲੂਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि रंगु चलूला होई ॥२॥

Guramukhi ranggu chaloolaa hoee ||2||

The Gurmukh is imbued with the deep red color of His Love. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਨਰੁ ਕੋਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

मनमुखि मुगधु नरु कोरा होइ ॥

Manamukhi mugadhu naru koraa hoi ||

The foolish, self-willed manmukh is left pale and uncolored.

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥

जे सउ लोचै रंगु न होवै कोइ ॥३॥

Je sau lochai ranggu na hovai koi ||3||

Even if he wishes it a hundred times, he does not obtain the Lord's Love. ||3||

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

नदरि करे ता सतिगुरु पावै ॥

Nadari kare taa satiguru paavai ||

But if the Lord blesses him with His Glance of Grace, then he meets the True Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੬॥

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਘਾਇ ॥

जिहवा हरि रसि रही अघाइ ॥

Jihavaa hari rasi rahee aghaai ||

My tongue remains satisfied with the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

गुरमुखि पीवै सहजि समाइ ॥१॥

Guramukhi peevai sahaji samaai ||1||

The Gurmukh drinks it in, and merges in celestial peace. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਨ ਚਾਖਹੁ ਜੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

हरि रसु जन चाखहु जे भाई ॥

Hari rasu jan chaakhahu je bhaaee ||

If you taste the subtle essence of the Lord, O humble Siblings of Destiny,

ਤਉ ਕਤ ਅਨਤ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तउ कत अनत सादि लोभाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tau kat anat saadi lobhaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Then how can you be enticed by other flavors? ||1|| Pause ||

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

गुरमति रसु राखहु उर धारि ॥

Guramati rasu raakhahu ur dhaari ||

Under Guru's Instructions, keep this subtle essence enshrined in your heart.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

हरि रसि राते रंगि मुरारि ॥२॥

Hari rasi raate ranggi muraari ||2||

Those who are imbued with the subtle essence of the Lord, are immersed in celestial bliss. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

मनमुखि हरि रसु चाखिआ न जाइ ॥

Manamukhi hari rasu chaakhiaa na jaai ||

The self-willed manmukh cannot even taste the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

हउमै करै बहुती मिलै सजाइ ॥३॥

Haumai karai bahutee milai sajaai ||3||

He acts out in ego, and suffers terrible punishment. ||3||

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

नदरि करे ता हरि रसु पावै ॥

Nadari kare taa hari rasu paavai ||

But if he is blessed with the Lord's Kind Mercy, then he obtains the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੭॥

नानक हरि रसि हरि गुण गावै ॥४॥३॥७॥

Naanak hari rasi hari gu(nn) gaavai ||4||3||7||

O Nanak, absorbed in this subtle essence of the Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||3||7||

ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤਿਆ ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਇ ॥

नीच जाति हरि जपतिआ उतम पदवी पाइ ॥

Neech jaati hari japatiaa utam padavee paai ||

When someone of low social class chants the Lord's Name, he obtains the state of highest dignity.

ਪੂਛਹੁ ਬਿਦਰ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤੈ ਕਿਸਨੁ ਉਤਰਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

पूछहु बिदर दासी सुतै किसनु उतरिआ घरि जिसु जाइ ॥१॥

Poochhahu bidar daasee sutai kisanu utariaa ghari jisu jaai ||1||

Go and ask Bidar, the son of a maid; Krishna himself stayed in his house. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਸਭ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि की अकथ कथा सुनहु जन भाई जितु सहसा दूख भूख सभ लहि जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari kee akath kathaa sunahu jan bhaaee jitu sahasaa dookh bhookh sabh lahi jaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Listen, O humble Siblings of Destiny, to the Unspoken Speech of the Lord; it removes all anxiety, pain and hunger. ||1|| Pause ||

ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਚਮਾਰੁ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਇਕ ਗਾਇ ॥

रविदासु चमारु उसतति करे हरि कीरति निमख इक गाइ ॥

Ravidaasu chamaaru usatati kare hari keerati nimakh ik gaai ||

Ravi Daas, the leather-worker, praised the Lord, and sang the Kirtan of His Praises each and every instant.

ਪਤਿਤ ਜਾਤਿ ਉਤਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਪਏ ਪਗਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥

पतित जाति उतमु भइआ चारि वरन पए पगि आइ ॥२॥

Patit jaati utamu bhaiaa chaari varan pae pagi aai ||2||

Although he was of low social status, he was exalted and elevated, and people of all four castes came and bowed at his feet. ||2||

ਨਾਮਦੇਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲੋਕੁ ਛੀਪਾ ਕਹੈ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥

नामदेअ प्रीति लगी हरि सेती लोकु छीपा कहै बुलाइ ॥

Naamadea preeti lagee hari setee loku chheepaa kahai bulaai ||

Naam Dayv loved the Lord; the people called him a fabric dyer.

ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਪਿਠਿ ਦੇ ਛੋਡੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਲੀਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥

खत्री ब्राहमण पिठि दे छोडे हरि नामदेउ लीआ मुखि लाइ ॥३॥

Khatree braahama(nn) pithi de chhode hari naamadeu leeaa mukhi laai ||3||

The Lord turned His back on the high-class Kashatriyas and Brahmins, and showed His face to Naam Dayv. ||3||

ਜਿਤਨੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਤਿਨ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਕਢਾਇ ॥

जितने भगत हरि सेवका मुखि अठसठि तीरथ तिन तिलकु कढाइ ॥

Jitane bhagat hari sevakaa mukhi athasathi teerath tin tilaku kadhaai ||

All of the devotees and servants of the Lord have the tilak, the ceremonial mark, applied to their foreheads at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪਰਸੇ ਜੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੮॥

जनु नानकु तिन कउ अनदिनु परसे जे क्रिपा करे हरि राइ ॥४॥१॥८॥

Janu naanaku tin kau anadinu parase je kripaa kare hari raai ||4||1||8||

Servant Nanak shall touch their feet night and day, if the Lord, the King, grants His Grace. ||4||1||8||

ਤਿਨੑੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਲਿਲਾਰਾ ॥

तिन्ही अंतरि हरि आराधिआ जिन कउ धुरि लिखिआ लिखतु लिलारा ॥

Tinhee anttari hari aaraadhiaa jin kau dhuri likhiaa likhatu lilaaraa ||

They alone worship and adore the Lord deep within, who are blessed with such pre-ordained destiny from the very beginning of time.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਗੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

तिन की बखीली कोई किआ करे जिन का अंगु करे मेरा हरि करतारा ॥१॥

Tin kee bakheelee koee kiaa kare jin kaa anggu kare meraa hari karataaraa ||1||

What can anyone do to undermine them? My Creator Lord is on their side. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हरि धिआइ मन मेरे मन धिआइ हरि जनम जनम के सभि दूख निवारणहारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari dhiaai man mere man dhiaai hari janam janam ke sabhi dookh nivaara(nn)ahaaraa ||1|| rahaau ||

So meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind. Meditate on the Lord, O mind; He is the Eliminator of all the pains of reincarnation. ||1|| Pause ||

ਧੁਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

धुरि भगत जना कउ बखसिआ हरि अम्रित भगति भंडारा ॥

Dhuri bhagat janaa kau bakhasiaa hari ammmrit bhagati bhanddaaraa ||

In the very beginning, the Lord blessed His devotees with the Ambrosial Nectar, the treasure of devotion.

ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਉਨ ਕੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

मूरखु होवै सु उन की रीस करे तिसु हलति पलति मुहु कारा ॥२॥

Moorakhu hovai su un kee rees kare tisu halati palati muhu kaaraa ||2||

Anyone who tries to compete with them is a fool; his face shall be blackened here and hereafter. ||2||

ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੇ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

से भगत से सेवका जिना हरि नामु पिआरा ॥

Se bhagat se sevakaa jinaa hari naamu piaaraa ||

They alone are devotees, and they alone are selfless servants, who love the Lord's Name.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੈ ਪਵੈ ਛਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

तिन की सेवा ते हरि पाईऐ सिरि निंदक कै पवै छारा ॥३॥

Tin kee sevaa te hari paaeeai siri ninddak kai pavai chhaaraa ||3||

By their selfless service, they find the Lord, while ashes fall on the heads of the slanderers. ||3||

ਜਿਸੁ ਘਰਿ ਵਿਰਤੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਗਤ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਛਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

जिसु घरि विरती सोई जाणै जगत गुर नानक पूछि करहु बीचारा ॥

Jisu ghari viratee soee jaa(nn)ai jagat gur naanak poochhi karahu beechaaraa ||

He alone knows this, who experiences it within the home of his own self. Ask Guru Nanak, the Guru of the world, and reflect upon it.

ਚਹੁ ਪੀੜੀ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੯॥

चहु पीड़ी आदि जुगादि बखीली किनै न पाइओ हरि सेवक भाइ निसतारा ॥४॥२॥९॥

Chahu pee(rr)ee aadi jugaadi bakheelee kinai na paaio hari sevak bhaai nisataaraa ||4||2||9||

Throughout the four generations of the Gurus, from the beginning of time and throughout the ages, no one has ever found the Lord by back-biting and undermining. Only by serving the Lord with love, is one emancipated. ||4||2||9||

ਜਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਤੁ ਸਹਾਈ ॥

जिथै हरि आराधीऐ तिथै हरि मितु सहाई ॥

Jithai hari aaraadheeai tithai hari mitu sahaaee ||

Wherever the Lord is worshipped in adoration, there the Lord becomes one's friend and helper.

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਲਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

गुर किरपा ते हरि मनि वसै होरतु बिधि लइआ न जाई ॥१॥

Gur kirapaa te hari mani vasai horatu bidhi laiaa na jaaee ||1||

By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to dwell in the mind; He cannot be obtained in any other way. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਭਾਈ ॥

हरि धनु संचीऐ भाई ॥

Hari dhanu sanccheeai bhaaee ||

So gather in the wealth of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny,

ਜਿ ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जि हलति पलति हरि होइ सखाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ji halati palati hari hoi sakhaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

So that in this world and the next, the Lord shall be your friend and companion. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਤਸੰਗਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਟੀਐ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

सतसंगती संगि हरि धनु खटीऐ होर थै होरतु उपाइ हरि धनु कितै न पाई ॥

Satasanggatee sanggi hari dhanu khateeai hor thai horatu upaai hari dhanu kitai na paaee ||

In the company of the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, you shall earn the wealth of the Lord; this wealth of the Lord is not obtained anywhere else, by any other means, at all.

ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨੈ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਧਨੁ ਵਿਹਾਝੇ ਕਚੈ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਏ ਵਾਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਲਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥

हरि रतनै का वापारीआ हरि रतन धनु विहाझे कचै के वापारीए वाकि हरि धनु लइआ न जाई ॥२॥

Hari ratanai kaa vaapaareeaa hari ratan dhanu vihaajhe kachai ke vaapaareee vaaki hari dhanu laiaa na jaaee ||2||

The dealer in the Lord's Jewels purchases the wealth of the Lord's jewels; the dealer in cheap glass jewels cannot acquire the Lord's wealth by empty words. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਵੇਹਰੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੈ ਵਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥

हरि धनु रतनु जवेहरु माणकु हरि धनै नालि अम्रित वेलै वतै हरि भगती हरि लिव लाई ॥

Hari dhanu ratanu javeharu maa(nn)aku hari dhanai naali ammmrit velai vatai hari bhagatee hari liv laaee ||

The Lord's wealth is like jewels, gems and rubies. At the appointed time in the Amrit Vaylaa, the ambrosial hours of the morning, the Lord's devotees lovingly center their attention on the Lord, and the wealth of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੈ ਵਤੈ ਕਾ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਭਗਤ ਖਾਇ ਖਰਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਖੁਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

हरि धनु अम्रित वेलै वतै का बीजिआ भगत खाइ खरचि रहे निखुटै नाही ॥

Hari dhanu ammmrit velai vatai kaa beejiaa bhagat khaai kharachi rahe nikhutai naahee ||

The devotees of the Lord plant the seed of the Lord's wealth in the ambrosial hours of the Amrit Vaylaa; they eat it, and spend it, but it is never exhausted.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੈ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੩॥

हलति पलति हरि धनै की भगता कउ मिली वडिआई ॥३॥

Halati palati hari dhanai kee bhagataa kau milee vadiaaee ||3||

In this world and the next, the devotees are blessed with glorious greatness, the wealth of the Lord. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਅਗਨੀ ਤਸਕਰੈ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਜਮਦੂਤੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

हरि धनु निरभउ सदा सदा असथिरु है साचा इहु हरि धनु अगनी तसकरै पाणीऐ जमदूतै किसै का गवाइआ न जाई ॥

Hari dhanu nirabhau sadaa sadaa asathiru hai saachaa ihu hari dhanu aganee tasakarai paa(nn)eeai jamadootai kisai kaa gavaaiaa na jaaee ||

The wealth of the Fearless Lord is permanent, forever and ever, and true. This wealth of the Lord cannot be destroyed by fire or water; neither thieves nor the Messenger of Death can take it away.

ਹਰਿ ਧਨ ਕਉ ਉਚਕਾ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਡੰਡੁ ਨ ਲਗਾਈ ॥੪॥

हरि धन कउ उचका नेड़ि न आवई जमु जागाती डंडु न लगाई ॥४॥

Hari dhan kau uchakaa ne(rr)i na aavaee jamu jaagaatee danddu na lagaaee ||4||

Thieves cannot even approach the Lord's wealth; Death, the tax collector cannot tax it. ||4||

ਸਾਕਤੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਵਿਖ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

साकती पाप करि कै बिखिआ धनु संचिआ तिना इक विख नालि न जाई ॥

Saakatee paap kari kai bikhiaa dhanu sancchiaa tinaa ik vikh naali na jaaee ||

The faithless cynics commit sins and gather in their poisonous wealth, but it shall not go along with them for even a single step.

ਹਲਤੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਦੁਹੇਲੇ ਭਏ ਹਥਹੁ ਛੁੜਕਿ ਗਇਆ ਅਗੈ ਪਲਤਿ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਢੋਈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥

हलतै विचि साकत दुहेले भए हथहु छुड़कि गइआ अगै पलति साकतु हरि दरगह ढोई न पाई ॥५॥

Halatai vichi saakat duhele bhae hathahu chhu(rr)aki gaiaa agai palati saakatu hari daragah dhoee na paaee ||5||

In this world, the faithless cynics become miserable, as it slips away through their hands. In the world hereafter, the faithless cynics find no shelter in the Court of the Lord. ||5||

ਇਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨ ਕਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਲਦਿ ਚਲਾਈ ॥

इसु हरि धन का साहु हरि आपि है संतहु जिस नो देइ सु हरि धनु लदि चलाई ॥

Isu hari dhan kaa saahu hari aapi hai santtahu jis no dei su hari dhanu ladi chalaaee ||

The Lord Himself is the Banker of this wealth, O Saints; when the Lord gives it, the mortal loads it and takes it away.

ਇਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੈ ਕਾ ਤੋਟਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੬॥੩॥੧੦॥

इसु हरि धनै का तोटा कदे न आवई जन नानक कउ गुरि सोझी पाई ॥६॥३॥१०॥

Isu hari dhanai kaa totaa kade na aavaee jan naanak kau guri sojhee paaee ||6||3||10||

This wealth of the Lord is never exhausted; the Guru has given this understanding to servant Nanak. ||6||3||10||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਰਵੈ ਸੋ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥

जिस नो हरि सुप्रसंनु होइ सो हरि गुणा रवै सो भगतु सो परवानु ॥

Jis no hari suprsannu hoi so hari gu(nn)aa ravai so bhagatu so paravaanu ||

That mortal, with whom the Lord is pleased, repeats the Glorious Praises of the Lord; he alone is a devotee, and he alone is approved.

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਿਆ ਵਰਨੀਐ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੧॥

तिस की महिमा किआ वरनीऐ जिस कै हिरदै वसिआ हरि पुरखु भगवानु ॥१॥

Tis kee mahimaa kiaa varaneeai jis kai hiradai vasiaa hari purakhu bhagavaanu ||1||

How can his glory be described? Within his heart, the Primal Lord, the Lord God, abides. ||1||

ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ਜੀਉ ਲਾਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गोविंद गुण गाईऐ जीउ लाइ सतिगुरू नालि धिआनु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Govindd gu(nn) gaaeeai jeeu laai satiguroo naali dhiaanu ||1|| rahaau ||

Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe; focus your meditation on the True Guru. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥

सो सतिगुरू सा सेवा सतिगुर की सफल है जिस ते पाईऐ परम निधानु ॥

So satiguroo saa sevaa satigur kee saphal hai jis te paaeeai param nidhaanu ||

He is the True Guru - service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding. By this service, the greatest treasure is obtained.

ਜੋ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਸਾਕਤ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਅਰਥਿ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਸਰੇਵਦੇ ਸੋ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਸਭੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥

जो दूजै भाइ साकत कामना अरथि दुरगंध सरेवदे सो निहफल सभु अगिआनु ॥२॥

Jo doojai bhaai saakat kaamanaa arathi duraganddh sarevade so nihaphal sabhu agiaanu ||2||

The faithless cynics in their love of duality and sensual desires, harbor foul-smelling urges. They are totally useless and ignorant. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਗਾਵਿਆ ਥਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

जिस नो परतीति होवै तिस का गाविआ थाइ पवै सो पावै दरगह मानु ॥

Jis no parateeti hovai tis kaa gaaviaa thaai pavai so paavai daragah maanu ||

One who has faith - his singing is approved. He is honored in the Court of the Lord.

ਜੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਰਤੀਤੀ ਕਪਟੀ ਕੂੜੀ ਕੂੜੀ ਅਖੀ ਮੀਟਦੇ ਉਨ ਕਾ ਉਤਰਿ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥

जो बिनु परतीती कपटी कूड़ी कूड़ी अखी मीटदे उन का उतरि जाइगा झूठु गुमानु ॥३॥

Jo binu parateetee kapatee koo(rr)ee koo(rr)ee akhee meetade un kaa utari jaaigaa jhoothu gumaanu ||3||

Those who lack faith may close their eyes, hypocritically pretending and faking devotion, but their false pretenses shall soon wear off. ||3||

ਜੇਤਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥

जेता जीउ पिंडु सभु तेरा तूं अंतरजामी पुरखु भगवानु ॥

Jetaa jeeu pinddu sabhu teraa toonn anttarajaamee purakhu bhagavaanu ||

My soul and body are totally Yours, Lord; You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, my Primal Lord God.

ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੇਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਾਇਹਿ ਤੇਹਾ ਹਉ ਕਰੀ ਵਖਿਆਨੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੧॥

दासनि दासु कहै जनु नानकु जेहा तूं कराइहि तेहा हउ करी वखिआनु ॥४॥४॥११॥

Daasani daasu kahai janu naanaku jehaa toonn karaaihi tehaa hau karee vakhiaanu ||4||4||11||

So speaks servant Nanak, the slave of Your slaves; as You make me speak, so do I speak. ||4||4||11||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਤੇਰੇ ਕਵਨ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਗਾਵਾ ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥

तेरे कवन कवन गुण कहि कहि गावा तू साहिब गुणी निधाना ॥

Tere kavan kavan gu(nn) kahi kahi gaavaa too saahib gu(nn)ee nidhaanaa ||

Which, which of Your Glorious Virtues should I sing and recount, Lord? You are my Lord and Master, the treasure of excellence.

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਊਚ ਭਗਵਾਨਾ ॥੧॥

तुमरी महिमा बरनि न साकउ तूं ठाकुर ऊच भगवाना ॥१॥

Tumaree mahimaa barani na saakau toonn thaakur uch bhagavaanaa ||1||

I cannot express Your Glorious Praises. You are my Lord and Master, lofty and benevolent. ||1||

ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਰ ਸੋਈ ॥

मै हरि हरि नामु धर सोई ॥

Mai hari hari naamu dhar soee ||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is my only support.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिउ भावै तिउ राखु मेरे साहिब मै तुझ बिनु अवरु न कोई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jiu bhaavai tiu raakhu mere saahib mai tujh binu avaru na koee ||1|| rahaau ||

If it pleases You, please save me, O my Lord and Master; without You, I have no other at all. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੈ ਤਾਣੁ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਤੂਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਗੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

मै ताणु दीबाणु तूहै मेरे सुआमी मै तुधु आगै अरदासि ॥

Mai taa(nn)u deebaa(nn)u toohai mere suaamee mai tudhu aagai aradaasi ||

You alone are my strength, and my Court, O my Lord and Master; unto You alone I pray.

ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਥਾਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

मै होरु थाउ नाही जिसु पहि करउ बेनंती मेरा दुखु सुखु तुझ ही पासि ॥२॥

Mai horu thaau naahee jisu pahi karau benanttee meraa dukhu sukhu tujh hee paasi ||2||

There is no other place where I can offer my prayers; I can tell my pains and pleasures only to You. ||2||

ਵਿਚੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਸਟ ਅਗਨਿ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥

विचे धरती विचे पाणी विचि कासट अगनि धरीजै ॥

Viche dharatee viche paa(nn)ee vichi kaasat agani dhareejai ||

Water is locked up in the earth, and fire is locked up in wood.

ਬਕਰੀ ਸਿੰਘੁ ਇਕਤੈ ਥਾਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਦੂਰਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੩॥

बकरी सिंघु इकतै थाइ राखे मन हरि जपि भ्रमु भउ दूरि कीजै ॥३॥

Bakaree singghu ikatai thaai raakhe man hari japi bhrmu bhau doori keejai ||3||

The sheep and the lions are kept in one place; O mortal, meditate on the Lord, and your doubts and fears shall be removed. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਮਾਣੁ ਦੇਵਾਏ ॥

हरि की वडिआई देखहु संतहु हरि निमाणिआ माणु देवाए ॥

Hari kee vadiaaee dekhahu santtahu hari nimaa(nn)iaa maa(nn)u devaae ||

So behold the glorious greatness of the Lord, O Saints; the Lord blesses the dishonored with honor.

ਜਿਉ ਧਰਤੀ ਚਰਣ ਤਲੇ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਆਣਿ ਸਭੁ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨॥

जिउ धरती चरण तले ते ऊपरि आवै तिउ नानक साध जना जगतु आणि सभु पैरी पाए ॥४॥१॥१२॥

Jiu dharatee chara(nn) tale te upari aavai tiu naanak saadh janaa jagatu aa(nn)i sabhu pairee paae ||4||1||12||

As dust rises from underfoot, O Nanak, so does the Lord make all people fall at the feet of the Holy. ||4||1||12||

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Soohee mahalaa 4 ||

Soohee, Fourth Mehl:

ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥

तूं करता सभु किछु आपे जाणहि किआ तुधु पहि आखि सुणाईऐ ॥

Toonn karataa sabhu kichhu aape jaa(nn)ahi kiaa tudhu pahi aakhi su(nn)aaeeai ||

You Yourself, O Creator, know everything; what can I possibly tell You?

ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥

बुरा भला तुधु सभु किछु सूझै जेहा को करे तेहा को पाईऐ ॥१॥

Buraa bhalaa tudhu sabhu kichhu soojhai jehaa ko kare tehaa ko paaeeai ||1||

You know all the bad and the good; as we act, so are we rewarded. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੂੰ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥

मेरे साहिब तूं अंतर की बिधि जाणहि ॥

Mere saahib toonn anttar kee bidhi jaa(nn)ahi ||

O my Lord and Master, You alone know the state of my inner being.

ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਬੁਲਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

बुरा भला तुधु सभु किछु सूझै तुधु भावै तिवै बुलावहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Buraa bhalaa tudhu sabhu kichhu soojhai tudhu bhaavai tivai bulaavahi ||1|| rahaau ||

You know all the bad and the good; as it pleases You, so You make us speak. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਈ ॥

सभु मोहु माइआ सरीरु हरि कीआ विचि देही मानुख भगति कराई ॥

Sabhu mohu maaiaa sareeru hari keeaa vichi dehee maanukh bhagati karaaee ||

The Lord has infused the love of Maya into all bodies; through this human body, there comes the opportunity to worship the Lord with devotion.

ਇਕਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਿਟਾਈ ॥੨॥

इकना सतिगुरु मेलि सुखु देवहि इकि मनमुखि धंधु पिटाई ॥२॥

Ikanaa satiguru meli sukhu devahi iki manamukhi dhanddhu pitaaee ||2||

You unite some with the True Guru, and bless them with peace; while others, the self-willed manmukhs, are engrossed in worldly affairs. ||2||

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ॥

सभु को तेरा तूं सभना का मेरे करते तुधु सभना सिरि लिखिआ लेखु ॥

Sabhu ko teraa toonn sabhanaa kaa mere karate tudhu sabhanaa siri likhiaa lekhu ||

All belong to You, and You belong to all, O my Creator Lord; You wrote the words of destiny on the forehead of everyone.

ਜੇਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਭੇਖੁ ॥੩॥

जेही तूं नदरि करहि तेहा को होवै बिनु नदरी नाही को भेखु ॥३॥

Jehee toonn nadari karahi tehaa ko hovai binu nadaree naahee ko bhekhu ||3||

As You bestow Your Glance of Grace, so are mortals made; without Your Gracious Glance, no one assumes any form. ||3||

ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਏ ॥

तेरी वडिआई तूंहै जाणहि सभ तुधनो नित धिआए ॥

Teree vadiaaee toonhhai jaa(nn)ahi sabh tudhano nit dhiaae ||

You alone know Your Glorious Greatness; everyone constantly meditates on You.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੩॥

जिस नो तुधु भावै तिस नो तूं मेलहि जन नानक सो थाइ पाए ॥४॥२॥१३॥

Jis no tudhu bhaavai tis no toonn melahi jan naanak so thaai paae ||4||2||13||

That being, with whom You are pleased, is united with You; O servant Nanak, only such a mortal is accepted. ||4||2||13||

ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਰੋਗ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

जिन कै अंतरि वसिआ मेरा हरि हरि तिन के सभि रोग गवाए ॥

Jin kai anttari vasiaa meraa hari hari tin ke sabhi rog gavaae ||

Those beings, within whose inner selves my Lord, Har, Har, dwells - all their diseases are cured.

ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥

ते मुकत भए जिन हरि नामु धिआइआ तिन पवितु परम पदु पाए ॥१॥

Te mukat bhae jin hari naamu dhiaaiaa tin pavitu param padu paae ||1||

They alone become liberated, who meditate on the Name of the Lord; they obtain the supreme status. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਆਰੋਗ ਭਏ ॥

मेरे राम हरि जन आरोग भए ॥

Mere raam hari jan aarog bhae ||

O my Lord,the Lord's humble servants become healthy.

ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਜਪਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ ਗਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर बचनी जिना जपिआ मेरा हरि हरि तिन के हउमै रोग गए ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur bachanee jinaa japiaa meraa hari hari tin ke haumai rog gae ||1|| rahaau ||

Those who meditate on my Lord,Har,Har, through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, are rid of the disease of ego. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਰੋਗੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ॥

ब्रहमा बिसनु महादेउ त्रै गुण रोगी विचि हउमै कार कमाई ॥

Brhamaa bisanu mahaadeu trai gu(nn) rogee vichi haumai kaar kamaaee ||

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva suffer from the disease of the three gunas - the three qualities; they do their deeds in egotism.

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥

जिनि कीए तिसहि न चेतहि बपुड़े हरि गुरमुखि सोझी पाई ॥२॥

Jini keee tisahi na chetahi bapu(rr)e hari guramukhi sojhee paaee ||2||

The poor fools do not remember the One who created them; this understanding of the Lord is only obtained by those who become Gurmukh. ||2||

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

हउमै रोगि सभु जगतु बिआपिआ तिन कउ जनम मरण दुखु भारी ॥

Haumai rogi sabhu jagatu biaapiaa tin kau janam mara(nn) dukhu bhaaree ||

The entire world is afflicted by the disease of egotism. They suffer the terrible pains of birth and death.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਛੂਟੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥

गुर परसादी को विरला छूटै तिसु जन कउ हउ बलिहारी ॥३॥

Gur parasaadee ko viralaa chhootai tisu jan kau hau balihaaree ||3||

By Guru's Grace, a few rare ones are saved; I am a sacrifice to those humble beings. ||3||

ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋਈ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥

जिनि सिसटि साजी सोई हरि जाणै ता का रूपु अपारो ॥

Jini sisati saajee soee hari jaa(nn)ai taa kaa roopu apaaro ||

The One who created the Universe, that Lord alone knows. His beauty is incomparable.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੪॥

नानक आपे वेखि हरि बिगसै गुरमुखि ब्रहम बीचारो ॥४॥३॥१४॥

Naanak aape vekhi hari bigasai guramukhi brham beechaaro ||4||3||14||

O Nanak, the Lord Himself gazes upon it, and is pleased. The Gurmukh contemplates God. ||4||3||14||

ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਸਰਬ ਰਜਾਈ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਚੈ ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਕੀਐ ॥

कीता करणा सरब रजाई किछु कीचै जे करि सकीऐ ॥

Keetaa kara(nn)aa sarab rajaaee kichhu keechai je kari sakeeai ||

All that happens, and all that will happen, is by His Will. If we could do something by ourselves, we would.

ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੀਐ ॥੧॥

आपणा कीता किछू न होवै जिउ हरि भावै तिउ रखीऐ ॥१॥

Aapa(nn)aa keetaa kichhoo na hovai jiu hari bhaavai tiu rakheeai ||1||

By ourselves, we cannot do anything at all. As it pleases the Lord, He preserves us. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ॥

मेरे हरि जीउ सभु को तेरै वसि ॥

Mere hari jeeu sabhu ko terai vasi ||

O my Dear Lord, everything is in Your power.

ਅਸਾ ਜੋਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਮ ਸਾਕਹ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਬਖਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

असा जोरु नाही जे किछु करि हम साकह जिउ भावै तिवै बखसि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Asaa joru naahee je kichhu kari ham saakah jiu bhaavai tivai bakhasi ||1|| rahaau ||

I have no power to do anything at all. As it pleases You, You forgive us. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਭੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

सभु जीउ पिंडु दीआ तुधु आपे तुधु आपे कारै लाइआ ॥

Sabhu jeeu pinddu deeaa tudhu aape tudhu aape kaarai laaiaa ||

You Yourself bless us with soul, body and everything. You Yourself cause us to act.

ਜੇਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਹੇ ਕੋ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੇਹਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

जेहा तूं हुकमु करहि तेहे को करम कमावै जेहा तुधु धुरि लिखि पाइआ ॥२॥

Jehaa toonn hukamu karahi tehe ko karam kamaavai jehaa tudhu dhuri likhi paaiaa ||2||

As You issue Your Commands, so do we act, according to our pre-ordained destiny. ||2||

ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀ ਕੋਈ ਛੇਵਾ ਕਰਿਉ ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥

पंच ततु करि तुधु स्रिसटि सभ साजी कोई छेवा करिउ जे किछु कीता होवै ॥

Pancch tatu kari tudhu srisati sabh saajee koee chhevaa kariu je kichhu keetaa hovai ||

You created the entire Universe out of the five elements; if anyone can create a sixth, let him.

ਇਕਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਬੁਝਾਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥੩॥

इकना सतिगुरु मेलि तूं बुझावहि इकि मनमुखि करहि सि रोवै ॥३॥

Ikanaa satiguru meli toonn bujhaavahi iki manamukhi karahi si rovai ||3||

You unite some with the True Guru, and cause them to understand, while others, the self-willed manmukhs, do their deeds and cry out in pain. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਉ ਆਖਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਾ ਹਉ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਨੀਚਾਣੁ ॥

हरि की वडिआई हउ आखि न साका हउ मूरखु मुगधु नीचाणु ॥

Hari kee vadiaaee hau aakhi na saakaa hau moorakhu mugadhu neechaa(nn)u ||

I cannot describe the glorious greatness of the Lord; I am foolish, thoughtless, idiotic and lowly.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਪਇਆ ਅਜਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੫॥੨੪॥

जन नानक कउ हरि बखसि लै मेरे सुआमी सरणागति पइआ अजाणु ॥४॥४॥१५॥२४॥

Jan naanak kau hari bakhasi lai mere suaamee sara(nn)aagati paiaa ajaa(nn)u ||4||4||15||24||

Please, forgive servant Nanak, O my Lord and Master; I am ignorant, but I have entered Your Sanctuary. ||4||4||15||24||

Raag Soohee, Fifth Mehl, First House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਬਾਜੀਗਰਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ ॥

बाजीगरि जैसे बाजी पाई ॥

Baajeegari jaise baajee paaee ||

The actor stages the play,

ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਭੇਖ ਦਿਖਲਾਈ ॥

नाना रूप भेख दिखलाई ॥

Naanaa roop bhekh dikhalaaee ||

Playing the many characters in different costumes;

ਸਾਂਗੁ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਓ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥

सांगु उतारि थम्हिओ पासारा ॥

Saangu utaari thammhio paasaaraa ||

But when the play ends, he takes off the costumes,

ਤਬ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

तब एको एकंकारा ॥१॥

Tab eko ekankkaaraa ||1||

And then he is one, and only one. ||1||

ਕਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਓ ਬਿਨਸਾਇਓ ॥

कवन रूप द्रिसटिओ बिनसाइओ ॥

Kavan roop drisatio binasaaio ||

How many forms and images appeared and disappeared?

ਕਤਹਿ ਗਇਓ ਉਹੁ ਕਤ ਤੇ ਆਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कतहि गइओ उहु कत ते आइओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Katahi gaio uhu kat te aaio ||1|| rahaau ||

Where have they gone? Where did they come from? ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਲ ਤੇ ਊਠਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਤਰੰਗਾ ॥

जल ते ऊठहि अनिक तरंगा ॥

Jal te uthahi anik taranggaa ||

Countless waves rise up from the water.

ਕਨਿਕ ਭੂਖਨ ਕੀਨੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥

कनिक भूखन कीने बहु रंगा ॥

Kanik bhookhan keene bahu ranggaa ||

Jewels and ornaments of many different forms are fashioned from gold.

ਬੀਜੁ ਬੀਜਿ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਕਾਰਾ ॥

बीजु बीजि देखिओ बहु परकारा ॥

Beeju beeji dekhio bahu parakaaraa ||

I have seen seeds of all kinds being planted

ਫਲ ਪਾਕੇ ਤੇ ਏਕੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

फल पाके ते एकंकारा ॥२॥

Phal paake te ekankkaaraa ||2||

- when the fruit ripens, the seeds appear in the same form as the original. ||2||

ਸਹਸ ਘਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਆਕਾਸੁ ॥

सहस घटा महि एकु आकासु ॥

Sahas ghataa mahi eku aakaasu ||

The one sky is reflected in thousands of water jugs,

ਘਟ ਫੂਟੇ ਤੇ ਓਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

घट फूटे ते ओही प्रगासु ॥

Ghat phoote te ohee prgaasu ||

But when the jugs are broken, only the sky remains.

ਭਰਮ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥

भरम लोभ मोह माइआ विकार ॥

Bharam lobh moh maaiaa vikaar ||

Doubt comes from greed, emotional attachment and the corruption of Maya.

ਭ੍ਰਮ ਛੂਟੇ ਤੇ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ॥੩॥

भ्रम छूटे ते एकंकार ॥३॥

Bhrm chhoote te ekankkaar ||3||

Freed from doubt, one realizes the One Lord alone. ||3||

ਓਹੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

ओहु अबिनासी बिनसत नाही ॥

Ohu abinaasee binasat naahee ||

He is imperishable; He will never pass away.

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਹੀ ॥

ना को आवै ना को जाही ॥

Naa ko aavai naa ko jaahee ||

He does not come, and He does not go.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਈ ॥

गुरि पूरै हउमै मलु धोई ॥

Guri poorai haumai malu dhoee ||

The Perfect Guru has washed away the filth of ego.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੧॥

कहु नानक मेरी परम गति होई ॥४॥१॥

Kahu naanak meree param gati hoee ||4||1||

Says Nanak, I have obtained the supreme status. ||4||1||

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

सूही महला ५ ॥

Soohee mahalaa 5 ||

Soohee, Fifth Mehl:

ਕੀਤਾ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੋਇ ॥

कीता लोड़हि सो प्रभ होइ ॥

Keetaa lo(rr)ahi so prbh hoi ||

Whatever God wills, that alone happens.

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

तुझ बिनु दूजा नाही कोइ ॥

Tujh binu doojaa naahee koi ||

Without You, there is no other at all.

ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਜ ॥

जो जनु सेवे तिसु पूरन काज ॥

Jo janu seve tisu pooran kaaj ||

The humble being serves Him, and so all his works are perfectly successful.

ਦਾਸ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਲਾਜ ॥੧॥

दास अपुने की राखहु लाज ॥१॥

Daas apune kee raakhahu laaj ||1||

O Lord, please preserve the honor of Your slaves. ||1||

ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥

तेरी सरणि पूरन दइआला ॥

Teree sara(nn)i pooran daiaalaa ||

I seek Your Sanctuary, O Perfect, Merciful Lord.

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तुझ बिनु कवनु करे प्रतिपाला ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tujh binu kavanu kare prtipaalaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Without You, who would cherish and love me? ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

जलि थलि महीअलि रहिआ भरपूरि ॥

Jali thali maheeali rahiaa bharapoori ||

He is permeating and pervading the water, the land and the sky.

ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

निकटि वसै नाही प्रभु दूरि ॥

Nikati vasai naahee prbhu doori ||

God dwells near at hand; He is not far away.

ਲੋਕ ਪਤੀਆਰੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

लोक पतीआरै कछू न पाईऐ ॥

Lok pateeaarai kachhoo na paaeeai ||

By trying to please other people, nothing is accomplished.

ਸਾਚਿ ਲਗੈ ਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

साचि लगै ता हउमै जाईऐ ॥२॥

Saachi lagai taa haumai jaaeeai ||2||

When someone is attached to the True Lord, his ego is taken away. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

जिस नो लाइ लए सो लागै ॥

Jis no laai lae so laagai ||

He alone is attached, whom the Lord Himself attaches.

ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥

गिआन रतनु अंतरि तिसु जागै ॥

Giaan ratanu anttari tisu jaagai ||

The jewel of spiritual wisdom is awakened deep within.

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

दुरमति जाइ परम पदु पाए ॥

Duramati jaai param padu paae ||

Evil-mindedness is eradicated, and the supreme status is attained.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੩॥

गुर परसादी नामु धिआए ॥३॥

Gur parasaadee naamu dhiaae ||3||

By Guru's Grace, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3||

ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰਉ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

दुइ कर जोड़ि करउ अरदासि ॥

Dui kar jo(rr)i karau aradaasi ||

Pressing my palms together, I offer my prayer;

ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਆਣਹਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

तुधु भावै ता आणहि रासि ॥

Tudhu bhaavai taa aa(nn)ahi raasi ||

If it pleases You, Lord, please bless me and fulfill me.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇ ॥

करि किरपा अपनी भगती लाइ ॥

Kari kirapaa apanee bhagatee laai ||

Grant Your Mercy, Lord, and bless me with devotion.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੪॥੨॥

जन नानक प्रभु सदा धिआइ ॥४॥२॥

Jan naanak prbhu sadaa dhiaai ||4||2||

Servant Nanak meditates on God forever. ||4||2||

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

सूही महला ५ ॥

Soohee mahalaa 5 ||

Soohee, Fifth Mehl:

ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥

धनु सोहागनि जो प्रभू पछानै ॥

Dhanu sohaagani jo prbhoo pachhaanai ||

Blessed is that soul-bride, who realizes God.

ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਜੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥

मानै हुकमु तजै अभिमानै ॥

Maanai hukamu tajai abhimaanai ||

She obeys the Hukam of His Order, and abandons her self-conceit.

ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥

प्रिअ सिउ राती रलीआ मानै ॥१॥

Pria siu raatee raleeaa maanai ||1||

Imbued with her Beloved, she celebrates in delight. ||1||

ਸੁਨਿ ਸਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਣ ਨੀਸਾਨੀ ॥

सुनि सखीए प्रभ मिलण नीसानी ॥

Suni sakheee prbh mila(nn) neesaanee ||

Listen, O my companions - these are the signs on the Path to meet God.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਲੋਕਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मनु तनु अरपि तजि लाज लोकानी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Manu tanu arapi taji laaj lokaanee ||1|| rahaau ||

Dedicate your mind and body to Him; stop living to please others. ||1|| Pause ||
