ਓਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਹੁ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਜਿਸ ਨਉ ਆਪਣੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਏ ॥

ओस नो किहु पोहि न सकी जिस नउ आपणी लिव लावए ॥

Os no kihu pohi na sakee jis nau aapa(nn)ee liv laavae ||

Nothing can harm one, whom the Lord inspires to embrace His Love.

ਆਪਣੀ ਲਿਵ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ॥

आपणी लिव आपे लाए गुरमुखि सदा समालीऐ ॥

Aapa(nn)ee liv aape laae guramukhi sadaa samaaleeai ||

He Himself is the love, and He Himself is the embrace; the Gurmukh contemplates Him forever.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ॥੨੮॥

कहै नानकु एवडु दाता सो किउ मनहु विसारीऐ ॥२८॥

Kahai naanaku evadu daataa so kiu manahu visaareeai ||28||

Says Nanak, why forget such a Great Giver from the mind? ||28||


ਜੈਸੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਉਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਤੈਸੀ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

जैसी अगनि उदर महि तैसी बाहरि माइआ ॥

Jaisee agani udar mahi taisee baahari maaiaa ||

As is the fire within the womb, so is Maya outside.

ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਭ ਇਕੋ ਜੇਹੀ ਕਰਤੈ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥

माइआ अगनि सभ इको जेही करतै खेलु रचाइआ ॥

Maaiaa agani sabh iko jehee karatai khelu rachaaiaa ||

The fire of Maya is one and the same; the Creator has staged this play.

ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਾ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਰਿ ਭਲਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

जा तिसु भाणा ता जमिआ परवारि भला भाइआ ॥

Jaa tisu bhaa(nn)aa taa jammiaa paravaari bhalaa bhaaiaa ||

According to His Will, the child is born, and the family is very pleased.

ਲਿਵ ਛੁੜਕੀ ਲਗੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਮਰੁ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ ॥

लिव छुड़की लगी त्रिसना माइआ अमरु वरताइआ ॥

Liv chhu(rr)akee lagee trisanaa maaiaa amaru varataaiaa ||

Love for the Lord wears off, and the child becomes attached to desires; the script of Maya runs its course.

ਏਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

एह माइआ जितु हरि विसरै मोहु उपजै भाउ दूजा लाइआ ॥

Eh maaiaa jitu hari visarai mohu upajai bhaau doojaa laaiaa ||

This is Maya, by which the Lord is forgotten; emotional attachment and love of duality well up.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਿਨੀ ਵਿਚੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨੯॥

कहै नानकु गुर परसादी जिना लिव लागी तिनी विचे माइआ पाइआ ॥२९॥

Kahai naanaku gur parasaadee jinaa liv laagee tinee viche maaiaa paaiaa ||29||

Says Nanak, by Guru's Grace, those who enshrine love for the Lord find Him, in the midst of Maya. ||29||


ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਅਮੁਲਕੁ ਹੈ ਮੁਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

हरि आपि अमुलकु है मुलि न पाइआ जाइ ॥

Hari aapi amulaku hai muli na paaiaa jaai ||

The Lord Himself is priceless; His worth cannot be estimated.

ਮੁਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਸੈ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਰਹੇ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਲਲਾਇ ॥

मुलि न पाइआ जाइ किसै विटहु रहे लोक विललाइ ॥

Muli na paaiaa jaai kisai vitahu rahe lok vilalaai ||

His worth cannot be estimated, even though people have grown weary of trying.

ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਸਉਪੀਐ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

ऐसा सतिगुरु जे मिलै तिस नो सिरु सउपीऐ विचहु आपु जाइ ॥

Aisaa satiguru je milai tis no siru saupeeai vichahu aapu jaai ||

If you meet such a True Guru, offer your head to Him; your selfishness and conceit will be eradicated from within.

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

जिस दा जीउ तिसु मिलि रहै हरि वसै मनि आइ ॥

Jis daa jeeu tisu mili rahai hari vasai mani aai ||

Your soul belongs to Him; remain united with Him, and the Lord will come to dwell in your mind.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਅਮੁਲਕੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਗ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੩੦॥

हरि आपि अमुलकु है भाग तिना के नानका जिन हरि पलै पाइ ॥३०॥

Hari aapi amulaku hai bhaag tinaa ke naanakaa jin hari palai paai ||30||

The Lord Himself is priceless; very fortunate are those, O Nanak, who attain to the Lord. ||30||


ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥

हरि रासि मेरी मनु वणजारा ॥

Hari raasi meree manu va(nn)ajaaraa ||

The Lord is my capital; my mind is the merchant.

ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਰਾਸਿ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

हरि रासि मेरी मनु वणजारा सतिगुर ते रासि जाणी ॥

Hari raasi meree manu va(nn)ajaaraa satigur te raasi jaa(nn)ee ||

The Lord is my capital, and my mind is the merchant; through the True Guru, I know my capital.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਜਪਿਹੁ ਜੀਅਹੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਖਟਿਹੁ ਦਿਹਾੜੀ ॥

हरि हरि नित जपिहु जीअहु लाहा खटिहु दिहाड़ी ॥

Hari hari nit japihu jeeahu laahaa khatihu dihaa(rr)ee ||

Meditate continually on the Lord, Har, Har, O my soul, and you shall collect your profits daily.

ਏਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਣਾ ॥

एहु धनु तिना मिलिआ जिन हरि आपे भाणा ॥

Ehu dhanu tinaa miliaa jin hari aape bhaa(nn)aa ||

This wealth is obtained by those who are pleasing to the Lord's Will.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਆ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥੩੧॥

कहै नानकु हरि रासि मेरी मनु होआ वणजारा ॥३१॥

Kahai naanaku hari raasi meree manu hoaa va(nn)ajaaraa ||31||

Says Nanak, the Lord is my capital, and my mind is the merchant. ||31||


ਏ ਰਸਨਾ ਤੂ ਅਨ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਚਿ ਰਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

ए रसना तू अन रसि राचि रही तेरी पिआस न जाइ ॥

E rasanaa too an rasi raachi rahee teree piaas na jaai ||

O my tongue, you are engrossed in other tastes, but your thirsty desire is not quenched.

ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਲੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

पिआस न जाइ होरतु कितै जिचरु हरि रसु पलै न पाइ ॥

Piaas na jaai horatu kitai jicharu hari rasu palai na paai ||

Your thirst shall not be quenched by any means, until you attain the subtle essence of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇ ਪਲੈ ਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥

हरि रसु पाइ पलै पीऐ हरि रसु बहुड़ि न त्रिसना लागै आइ ॥

Hari rasu paai palai peeai hari rasu bahu(rr)i na trisanaa laagai aai ||

If you do obtain the subtle essence of the Lord, and drink in this essence of the Lord, you shall not be troubled by desire again.

ਏਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਇ ॥

एहु हरि रसु करमी पाईऐ सतिगुरु मिलै जिसु आइ ॥

Ehu hari rasu karamee paaeeai satiguru milai jisu aai ||

This subtle essence of the Lord is obtained by good karma, when one comes to meet with the True Guru.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਸਭਿ ਵੀਸਰੇ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩੨॥

कहै नानकु होरि अन रस सभि वीसरे जा हरि वसै मनि आइ ॥३२॥

Kahai naanaku hori an ras sabhi veesare jaa hari vasai mani aai ||32||

Says Nanak, all other tastes and essences are forgotten, when the Lord comes to dwell within the mind. ||32||


ਏ ਸਰੀਰਾ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਖੀ ਤਾ ਤੂ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

ए सरीरा मेरिआ हरि तुम महि जोति रखी ता तू जग महि आइआ ॥

E sareeraa meriaa hari tum mahi joti rakhee taa too jag mahi aaiaa ||

O my body, the Lord infused His Light into you, and then you came into the world.

ਹਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਖੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਤਾ ਤੂ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

हरि जोति रखी तुधु विचि ता तू जग महि आइआ ॥

Hari joti rakhee tudhu vichi taa too jag mahi aaiaa ||

The Lord infused His Light into you, and then you came into the world.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਉਪਾਇ ਜਗਤੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥

हरि आपे माता आपे पिता जिनि जीउ उपाइ जगतु दिखाइआ ॥

Hari aape maataa aape pitaa jini jeeu upaai jagatu dikhaaiaa ||

The Lord Himself is your mother, and He Himself is your father; He created the created beings, and revealed the world to them.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਤਾ ਚਲਤੁ ਹੋਆ ਚਲਤੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ॥

गुर परसादी बुझिआ ता चलतु होआ चलतु नदरी आइआ ॥

Gur parasaadee bujhiaa taa chalatu hoaa chalatu nadaree aaiaa ||

By Guru's Grace, some understand, and then it's a show; it seems like just a show.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਰਚਿਆ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਤਾ ਤੂ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੩੩॥

कहै नानकु स्रिसटि का मूलु रचिआ जोति राखी ता तू जग महि आइआ ॥३३॥

Kahai naanaku srisati kaa moolu rachiaa joti raakhee taa too jag mahi aaiaa ||33||

Says Nanak, He laid the foundation of the Universe, and infused His Light, and then you came into the world. ||33||


ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਗਮੁ ਸੁਣਿਆ ॥

मनि चाउ भइआ प्रभ आगमु सुणिआ ॥

Mani chaau bhaiaa prbh aagamu su(nn)iaa ||

My mind has become joyful, hearing of God's coming.

ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਉ ਸਖੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਬਣਿਆ ॥

हरि मंगलु गाउ सखी ग्रिहु मंदरु बणिआ ॥

Hari manggalu gaau sakhee grihu manddaru ba(nn)iaa ||

Sing the songs of joy to welcome the Lord, O my companions; my household has become the Lord's Mansion.

ਹਰਿ ਗਾਉ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਨਿਤ ਸਖੀਏ ਸੋਗੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪਏ ॥

हरि गाउ मंगलु नित सखीए सोगु दूखु न विआपए ॥

Hari gaau manggalu nit sakheee sogu dookhu na viaapae ||

Sing continually the songs of joy to welcome the Lord, O my companions, and sorrow and suffering will not afflict you.

ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਦਿਨ ਸਭਾਗੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਪਏ ॥

गुर चरन लागे दिन सभागे आपणा पिरु जापए ॥

Gur charan laage din sabhaage aapa(nn)aa piru jaapae ||

Blessed is that day, when I am attached to the Guru's feet and meditate on my Husband Lord.

ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਗੋ ॥

अनहत बाणी गुर सबदि जाणी हरि नामु हरि रसु भोगो ॥

Anahat baa(nn)ee gur sabadi jaa(nn)ee hari naamu hari rasu bhogo ||

I have come to know the unstruck sound current and the Word of the Guru's Shabad; I enjoy the sublime essence of the Lord, the Lord's Name.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਜੋਗੋ ॥੩੪॥

कहै नानकु प्रभु आपि मिलिआ करण कारण जोगो ॥३४॥

Kahai naanaku prbhu aapi miliaa kara(nn) kaara(nn) jogo ||34||

Says Nanak, God Himself has met me; He is the Doer, the Cause of causes. ||34||


ਏ ਸਰੀਰਾ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਕਿਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥

ए सरीरा मेरिआ इसु जग महि आइ कै किआ तुधु करम कमाइआ ॥

E sareeraa meriaa isu jag mahi aai kai kiaa tudhu karam kamaaiaa ||

O my body, why have you come into this world? What actions have you committed?

ਕਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ਜਾ ਤੂ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

कि करम कमाइआ तुधु सरीरा जा तू जग महि आइआ ॥

Ki karam kamaaiaa tudhu sareeraa jaa too jag mahi aaiaa ||

And what actions have you committed, O my body, since you came into this world?

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਿਆ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

जिनि हरि तेरा रचनु रचिआ सो हरि मनि न वसाइआ ॥

Jini hari teraa rachanu rachiaa so hari mani na vasaaiaa ||

The Lord who formed your form - you have not enshrined that Lord in your mind.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

गुर परसादी हरि मंनि वसिआ पूरबि लिखिआ पाइआ ॥

Gur parasaadee hari manni vasiaa poorabi likhiaa paaiaa ||

By Guru's Grace, the Lord abides within the mind, and one's pre-ordained destiny is fulfilled.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੋਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੩੫॥

कहै नानकु एहु सरीरु परवाणु होआ जिनि सतिगुर सिउ चितु लाइआ ॥३५॥

Kahai naanaku ehu sareeru paravaa(nn)u hoaa jini satigur siu chitu laaiaa ||35||

Says Nanak, this body is adorned and honored, when one's consciousness is focused on the True Guru. ||35||


ਏ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਹੁ ਮੇਰਿਹੋ ਹਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਧਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਕੋਈ ॥

ए नेत्रहु मेरिहो हरि तुम महि जोति धरी हरि बिनु अवरु न देखहु कोई ॥

E netrhu meriho hari tum mahi joti dharee hari binu avaru na dekhahu koee ||

O my eyes, the Lord has infused His Light into you; do not look upon any other than the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਦਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ॥

हरि बिनु अवरु न देखहु कोई नदरी हरि निहालिआ ॥

Hari binu avaru na dekhahu koee nadaree hari nihaaliaa ||

Do not look upon any other than the Lord; the Lord alone is worthy of beholding.

ਏਹੁ ਵਿਸੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਤੁਮ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਏਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ॥

एहु विसु संसारु तुम देखदे एहु हरि का रूपु है हरि रूपु नदरी आइआ ॥

Ehu visu sanssaaru tum dekhade ehu hari kaa roopu hai hari roopu nadaree aaiaa ||

This whole world which you see is the image of the Lord; only the image of the Lord is seen.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਵੇਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

गुर परसादी बुझिआ जा वेखा हरि इकु है हरि बिनु अवरु न कोई ॥

Gur parasaadee bujhiaa jaa vekhaa hari iku hai hari binu avaru na koee ||

By Guru's Grace, I understand, and I see only the One Lord; there is no one except the Lord.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਹਿ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਅੰਧ ਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਦਿਬ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੩੬॥

कहै नानकु एहि नेत्र अंध से सतिगुरि मिलिऐ दिब द्रिसटि होई ॥३६॥

Kahai naanaku ehi netr anddh se satiguri miliai dib drisati hoee ||36||

Says Nanak, these eyes were blind; but meeting the True Guru, they became all-seeing. ||36||


ਏ ਸ੍ਰਵਣਹੁ ਮੇਰਿਹੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਸੁਨਣੈ ਨੋ ਪਠਾਏ ॥

ए स्रवणहु मेरिहो साचै सुनणै नो पठाए ॥

E srva(nn)ahu meriho saachai suna(nn)ai no pathaae ||

O my ears, you were created only to hear the Truth.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸੁਨਣੈ ਨੋ ਪਠਾਏ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਲਾਏ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸਤਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

साचै सुनणै नो पठाए सरीरि लाए सुणहु सति बाणी ॥

Saachai suna(nn)ai no pathaae sareeri laae su(nn)ahu sati baa(nn)ee ||

To hear the Truth, you were created and attached to the body; listen to the True Bani.

ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਸਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥

जितु सुणी मनु तनु हरिआ होआ रसना रसि समाणी ॥

Jitu su(nn)ee manu tanu hariaa hoaa rasanaa rasi samaa(nn)ee ||

Hearing it, the mind and body are rejuvenated, and the tongue is absorbed in Ambrosial Nectar.

ਸਚੁ ਅਲਖ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥

सचु अलख विडाणी ता की गति कही न जाए ॥

Sachu alakh vidaa(nn)ee taa kee gati kahee na jaae ||

The True Lord is unseen and wondrous; His state cannot be described.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਵਹੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਸੁਨਣੈ ਨੋ ਪਠਾਏ ॥੩੭॥

कहै नानकु अम्रित नामु सुणहु पवित्र होवहु साचै सुनणै नो पठाए ॥३७॥

Kahai naanaku ammmrit naamu su(nn)ahu pavitr hovahu saachai suna(nn)ai no pathaae ||37||

Says Nanak, listen to the Ambrosial Naam and become holy; you were created only to hear the Truth. ||37||


ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਗੁਫਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਖਿ ਕੈ ਵਾਜਾ ਪਵਣੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥

हरि जीउ गुफा अंदरि रखि कै वाजा पवणु वजाइआ ॥

Hari jeeu guphaa anddari rakhi kai vaajaa pava(nn)u vajaaiaa ||

The Lord placed the soul to the cave of the body, and blew the breath of life into the musical instrument of the body.

ਵਜਾਇਆ ਵਾਜਾ ਪਉਣ ਨਉ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਕੀਏ ਦਸਵਾ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਰਖਾਇਆ ॥

वजाइआ वाजा पउण नउ दुआरे परगटु कीए दसवा गुपतु रखाइआ ॥

Vajaaiaa vaajaa pau(nn) nau duaare paragatu keee dasavaa gupatu rakhaaiaa ||

He blew the breath of life into the musical instrument of the body, and revealed the nine doors; but He kept the Tenth Door hidden.

ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੈ ਲਾਇ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਇਕਨਾ ਦਸਵਾ ਦੁਆਰੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥

गुरदुआरै लाइ भावनी इकना दसवा दुआरु दिखाइआ ॥

Guraduaarai laai bhaavanee ikanaa dasavaa duaaru dikhaaiaa ||

Through the Gurdwara, the Guru's Gate, some are blessed with loving faith, and the Tenth Door is revealed to them.

ਤਹ ਅਨੇਕ ਰੂਪ ਨਾਉ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

तह अनेक रूप नाउ नव निधि तिस दा अंतु न जाई पाइआ ॥

Tah anek roop naau nav nidhi tis daa anttu na jaaee paaiaa ||

There are many images of the Lord, and the nine treasures of the Naam; His limits cannot be found.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੈ ਜੀਉ ਗੁਫਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਖਿ ਕੈ ਵਾਜਾ ਪਵਣੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥੩੮॥

कहै नानकु हरि पिआरै जीउ गुफा अंदरि रखि कै वाजा पवणु वजाइआ ॥३८॥

Kahai naanaku hari piaarai jeeu guphaa anddari rakhi kai vaajaa pava(nn)u vajaaiaa ||38||

Says Nanak, the Lord placed the soul to the cave of the body, and blew the breath of life into the musical instrument of the body. ||38||


ਏਹੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਘਰਿ ਗਾਵਹੁ ॥

एहु साचा सोहिला साचै घरि गावहु ॥

Ehu saachaa sohilaa saachai ghari gaavahu ||

Sing this true song of praise in the true home of your soul.

ਗਾਵਹੁ ਤ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਜਿਥੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੇ ॥

गावहु त सोहिला घरि साचै जिथै सदा सचु धिआवहे ॥

Gaavahu ta sohilaa ghari saachai jithai sadaa sachu dhiaavahe ||

Sing the song of praise in your true home; meditate there on the True Lord forever.

ਸਚੋ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਬੁਝਾਵਹੇ ॥

सचो धिआवहि जा तुधु भावहि गुरमुखि जिना बुझावहे ॥

Sacho dhiaavahi jaa tudhu bhaavahi guramukhi jinaa bujhaavahe ||

They alone meditate on You, O True Lord, who are pleasing to Your Will; as Gurmukh, they understand.

ਇਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਵਹੇ ॥

इहु सचु सभना का खसमु है जिसु बखसे सो जनु पावहे ॥

Ihu sachu sabhanaa kaa khasamu hai jisu bakhase so janu paavahe ||

This Truth is the Lord and Master of all; whoever is blessed, obtains it.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਸਚੈ ਘਰਿ ਗਾਵਹੇ ॥੩੯॥

कहै नानकु सचु सोहिला सचै घरि गावहे ॥३९॥

Kahai naanaku sachu sohilaa sachai ghari gaavahe ||39||

Says Nanak, sing the true song of praise in the true home of your soul. ||39||


ਅਨਦੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ॥

अनदु सुणहु वडभागीहो सगल मनोरथ पूरे ॥

Anadu su(nn)ahu vadabhaageeho sagal manorath poore ||

Listen to the song of bliss, O most fortunate ones; all your longings shall be fulfilled.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਉਤਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥

पारब्रहमु प्रभु पाइआ उतरे सगल विसूरे ॥

Paarabrhamu prbhu paaiaa utare sagal visoore ||

I have obtained the Supreme Lord God, and all sorrows have been forgotten.

ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਉਤਰੇ ਸੁਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

दूख रोग संताप उतरे सुणी सची बाणी ॥

Dookh rog santtaap utare su(nn)ee sachee baa(nn)ee ||

Pain, illness and suffering have departed, listening to the True Bani.

ਸੰਤ ਸਾਜਨ ਭਏ ਸਰਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

संत साजन भए सरसे पूरे गुर ते जाणी ॥

Santt saajan bhae sarase poore gur te jaa(nn)ee ||

The Saints and their friends are in ecstasy, knowing the Perfect Guru.

ਸੁਣਤੇ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਕਹਤੇ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥

सुणते पुनीत कहते पवितु सतिगुरु रहिआ भरपूरे ॥

Su(nn)ate puneet kahate pavitu satiguru rahiaa bharapoore ||

Pure are the listeners, and pure are the speakers; the True Guru is all-pervading and permeating.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰੇ ॥੪੦॥੧॥

बिनवंति नानकु गुर चरण लागे वाजे अनहद तूरे ॥४०॥१॥

Binavantti naanaku gur chara(nn) laage vaaje anahad toore ||40||1||

Prays Nanak, touching the Guru's Feet, the unstruck sound current of the celestial bugles vibrates and resounds. ||40||1||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਜਗਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

जगि दाता सोइ भगति वछलु तिहु लोइ जीउ ॥

Jagi daataa soi bhagati vachhalu tihu loi jeeu ||

He is the Great Giver of the Universe, the Lover of His devotees, throughout the three worlds.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਵਏ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

गुर सबदि समावए अवरु न जाणै कोइ जीउ ॥

Gur sabadi samaavae avaru na jaa(nn)ai koi jeeu ||

One who is merged in the Word of the Guru's Shabad does not know any other.

ਅਵਰੋ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੇ ॥

अवरो न जाणहि सबदि गुर कै एकु नामु धिआवहे ॥

Avaro na jaa(nn)ahi sabadi gur kai eku naamu dhiaavahe ||

Dwelling upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he does not know any other; he meditates on the One Name of the Lord.

ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਪਰਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਵਹੇ ॥

परसादि नानक गुरू अंगद परम पदवी पावहे ॥

Parasaadi naanak guroo anggad param padavee paavahe ||

By the Grace of Guru Nanak and Guru Angad, Guru Amar Das obtained the supreme status.

ਆਇਆ ਹਕਾਰਾ ਚਲਣਵਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

आइआ हकारा चलणवारा हरि राम नामि समाइआ ॥

Aaiaa hakaaraa chala(nn)avaaraa hari raam naami samaaiaa ||

And when the call came for Him to depart, He merged in the Name of the Lord.

ਜਗਿ ਅਮਰੁ ਅਟਲੁ ਅਤੋਲੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

जगि अमरु अटलु अतोलु ठाकुरु भगति ते हरि पाइआ ॥१॥

Jagi amaru atalu atolu thaakuru bhagati te hari paaiaa ||1||

Through devotional worship in this world, the imperishable, immovable, immeasurable Lord is found. ||1||


ਹਰਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

हरि भाणा गुर भाइआ गुरु जावै हरि प्रभ पासि जीउ ॥

Hari bhaa(nn)aa gur bhaaiaa guru jaavai hari prbh paasi jeeu ||

The Guru gladly accepted the Lord's Will, and so the Guru easily reached the Lord God's Presence.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਹੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

सतिगुरु करे हरि पहि बेनती मेरी पैज रखहु अरदासि जीउ ॥

Satiguru kare hari pahi benatee meree paij rakhahu aradaasi jeeu ||

The True Guru prays to the Lord, ""Please, save my honor. This is my prayer"".

ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਹ ਕੇਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੋ ॥

पैज राखहु हरि जनह केरी हरि देहु नामु निरंजनो ॥

Paij raakhahu hari janah keree hari dehu naamu niranjjano ||

Please save the honor of Your humble servant, O Lord; please bless him with Your Immaculate Name.

ਅੰਤਿ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਬੇਲੀ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਕਾਲੁ ਨਿਖੰਜਨੋ ॥

अंति चलदिआ होइ बेली जमदूत कालु निखंजनो ॥

Antti chaladiaa hoi belee jamadoot kaalu nikhanjjano ||

At this time of final departure, it is our only help and support; it destroys death, and the Messenger of Death.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

सतिगुरू की बेनती पाई हरि प्रभि सुणी अरदासि जीउ ॥

Satiguroo kee benatee paaee hari prbhi su(nn)ee aradaasi jeeu ||

The Lord God heard the prayer of the True Guru, and granted His request.

ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

हरि धारि किरपा सतिगुरु मिलाइआ धनु धनु कहै साबासि जीउ ॥२॥

Hari dhaari kirapaa satiguru milaaiaa dhanu dhanu kahai saabaasi jeeu ||2||

The Lord showered His Mercy, and blended the True Guru with Himself; He said, ""Blessed! Blessed! Wonderful!"" ||2||


ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੁਤ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਮੇਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਉ ਮੈ ਪਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

मेरे सिख सुणहु पुत भाईहो मेरै हरि भाणा आउ मै पासि जीउ ॥

Mere sikh su(nn)ahu put bhaaeeho merai hari bhaa(nn)aa aau mai paasi jeeu ||

Listen O my Sikhs, my children and Siblings of Destiny; it is my Lord's Will that I must now go to Him.

ਹਰਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

हरि भाणा गुर भाइआ मेरा हरि प्रभु करे साबासि जीउ ॥

Hari bhaa(nn)aa gur bhaaiaa meraa hari prbhu kare saabaasi jeeu ||

The Guru gladly accepted the Lord's Will, and my Lord God applauded Him.

ਭਗਤੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵਏ ॥

भगतु सतिगुरु पुरखु सोई जिसु हरि प्रभ भाणा भावए ॥

Bhagatu satiguru purakhu soee jisu hari prbh bhaa(nn)aa bhaavae ||

One who is pleased with the Lord God's Will is a devotee, the True Guru, the Primal Lord.

ਆਨੰਦ ਅਨਹਦ ਵਜਹਿ ਵਾਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਗਲਿ ਮੇਲਾਵਏ ॥

आनंद अनहद वजहि वाजे हरि आपि गलि मेलावए ॥

Aanandd anahad vajahi vaaje hari aapi gali melaavae ||

The unstruck sound current of bliss resounds and vibrates; the Lord hugs him close in His embrace.

ਤੁਸੀ ਪੁਤ ਭਾਈ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਰਜਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

तुसी पुत भाई परवारु मेरा मनि वेखहु करि निरजासि जीउ ॥

Tusee put bhaaee paravaaru meraa mani vekhahu kari nirajaasi jeeu ||

O my children, siblings and family, look carefully in your minds, and see.

ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

धुरि लिखिआ परवाणा फिरै नाही गुरु जाइ हरि प्रभ पासि जीउ ॥३॥

Dhuri likhiaa paravaa(nn)aa phirai naahee guru jaai hari prbh paasi jeeu ||3||

The pre-ordained death warrant cannot be avoided; the Guru is going to be with the Lord God. ||3||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭਾਣੈ ਆਪਣੈ ਬਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ਸਦਾਇਆ ॥

सतिगुरि भाणै आपणै बहि परवारु सदाइआ ॥

Satiguri bhaa(nn)ai aapa(nn)ai bahi paravaaru sadaaiaa ||

The True Guru, in His Own Sweet Will, sat up and summoned His family.

ਮਤ ਮੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਵਸੀ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

मत मै पिछै कोई रोवसी सो मै मूलि न भाइआ ॥

Mat mai pichhai koee rovasee so mai mooli na bhaaiaa ||

Let no one weep for me after I am gone. That would not please me at all.

ਮਿਤੁ ਪੈਝੈ ਮਿਤੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਤ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਭਾਵਏ ॥

मितु पैझै मितु बिगसै जिसु मित की पैज भावए ॥

Mitu paijhai mitu bigasai jisu mit kee paij bhaavae ||

When a friend receives a robe of honor, then his friends are pleased with his honor.

ਤੁਸੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਪੁਤ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪੈਨਾਵਏ ॥

तुसी वीचारि देखहु पुत भाई हरि सतिगुरू पैनावए ॥

Tusee veechaari dekhahu put bhaaee hari satiguroo painaavae ||

Consider this and see, O my children and siblings; the Lord has given the True Guru the robe of supreme honor.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਹੋਦੈ ਬਹਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਆਪਿ ਟਿਕਾਇਆ ॥

सतिगुरू परतखि होदै बहि राजु आपि टिकाइआ ॥

Satiguroo paratakhi hodai bahi raaju aapi tikaaiaa ||

The True Guru Himself sat up, and appointed the successor to the Throne of Raja Yoga, the Yoga of Meditation and Success.

ਸਭਿ ਸਿਖ ਬੰਧਪ ਪੁਤ ਭਾਈ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

सभि सिख बंधप पुत भाई रामदास पैरी पाइआ ॥४॥

Sabhi sikh banddhap put bhaaee raamadaas pairee paaiaa ||4||

All the Sikhs, relatives, children and siblings have fallen at the Feet of Guru Ram Das. ||4||


ਅੰਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਮੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਿਅਹੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

अंते सतिगुरु बोलिआ मै पिछै कीरतनु करिअहु निरबाणु जीउ ॥

Antte satiguru boliaa mai pichhai keeratanu kariahu nirabaa(nn)u jeeu ||

Finally, the True Guru said, ""When I am gone, sing Kirtan in Praise of the Lord, in Nirvaanaa.""

ਕੇਸੋ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਸਦਿਅਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਪੜਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

केसो गोपाल पंडित सदिअहु हरि हरि कथा पड़हि पुराणु जीउ ॥

Keso gopaal panddit sadiahu hari hari kathaa pa(rr)ahi puraa(nn)u jeeu ||

Call in the long-haired scholarly Saints of the Lord, to read the sermon of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਪੜੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਬੇਬਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਵਏ ॥

हरि कथा पड़ीऐ हरि नामु सुणीऐ बेबाणु हरि रंगु गुर भावए ॥

Hari kathaa pa(rr)eeai hari naamu su(nn)eeai bebaa(nn)u hari ranggu gur bhaavae ||

Read the sermon of the Lord, and listen to the Lord's Name; the Guru is pleased with love for the Lord.

ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਤਲਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਦੀਵਾ ਫੁਲ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਿ ਪਾਵਏ ॥

पिंडु पतलि किरिआ दीवा फुल हरि सरि पावए ॥

Pinddu patali kiriaa deevaa phul hari sari paavae ||

Do not bother with offering rice-balls on leaves, lighting lamps, and other rituals like floating the body out on the Ganges; instead, let my remains be given up to the Lord's Pool.

ਹਰਿ ਭਾਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

हरि भाइआ सतिगुरु बोलिआ हरि मिलिआ पुरखु सुजाणु जीउ ॥

Hari bhaaiaa satiguru boliaa hari miliaa purakhu sujaa(nn)u jeeu ||

The Lord was pleased as the True Guru spoke; he was blended then with the all-knowing Primal Lord God.

ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਸੋਢੀ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥

रामदास सोढी तिलकु दीआ गुर सबदु सचु नीसाणु जीउ ॥५॥

Raamadaas sodhee tilaku deeaa gur sabadu sachu neesaa(nn)u jeeu ||5||

The Guru then blessed the Sodhi Ram Das with the ceremonial tilak mark, the insignia of the True Word of the Shabad. ||5||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਿ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਲਈ ਰਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

सतिगुरु पुरखु जि बोलिआ गुरसिखा मंनि लई रजाइ जीउ ॥

Satiguru purakhu ji boliaa gurasikhaa manni laee rajaai jeeu ||

And as the True Guru, the Primal Lord spoke, and the Gursikhs obeyed His Will.

ਮੋਹਰੀ ਪੁਤੁ ਸਨਮੁਖੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੈ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

मोहरी पुतु सनमुखु होइआ रामदासै पैरी पाइ जीउ ॥

Moharee putu sanamukhu hoiaa raamadaasai pairee paai jeeu ||

His son Mohri turned sunmukh, and become obedient to Him; he bowed, and touched Ram Das' feet.

ਸਭ ਪਵੈ ਪੈਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਰੀ ਜਿਥੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪੁ ਰਖਿਆ ॥

सभ पवै पैरी सतिगुरू केरी जिथै गुरू आपु रखिआ ॥

Sabh pavai pairee satiguroo keree jithai guroo aapu rakhiaa ||

Then, everyone bowed and touched the feet of Ram Das, into whom the Guru infused His essence.

ਕੋਈ ਕਰਿ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਨਿਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ ॥

कोई करि बखीली निवै नाही फिरि सतिगुरू आणि निवाइआ ॥

Koee kari bakheelee nivai naahee phiri satiguroo aa(nn)i nivaaiaa ||

And any that did not bow then because of envy - later, the True Guru brought them around to bow in humility.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਦੀਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਰਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

हरि गुरहि भाणा दीई वडिआई धुरि लिखिआ लेखु रजाइ जीउ ॥

Hari gurahi bhaa(nn)aa deeee vadiaaee dhuri likhiaa lekhu rajaai jeeu ||

It pleased the Guru, the Lord, to bestow glorious greatness upon Him; such was the pre-ordained destiny of the Lord's Will.

ਕਹੈ ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥੧॥

कहै सुंदरु सुणहु संतहु सभु जगतु पैरी पाइ जीउ ॥६॥१॥

Kahai sunddaru su(nn)ahu santtahu sabhu jagatu pairee paai jeeu ||6||1||

Says Sundar, listen, O Saints: all the world fell at His feet. ||6||1||

साजनड़ा मेरा साजनड़ा निकटि खलोइअड़ा मेरा साजनड़ा ॥

Saajana(rr)aa meraa saajana(rr)aa nikati khaloia(rr)aa meraa saajana(rr)aa ||

Friend, my Friend - standing so near to me is my Friend!

ਜਾਨੀਅੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨੀਅੜਾ ਨੈਣ ਅਲੋਇਅੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨੀਅੜਾ ॥

जानीअड़ा हरि जानीअड़ा नैण अलोइअड़ा हरि जानीअड़ा ॥

Jaaneea(rr)aa hari jaaneea(rr)aa nai(nn) aloia(rr)aa hari jaaneea(rr)aa ||

Beloved, the Lord my Beloved - with my eyes, I have seen the Lord, my Beloved!

ਨੈਣ ਅਲੋਇਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੋਇਆ ਅਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਗੂੜਾ ॥

नैण अलोइआ घटि घटि सोइआ अति अम्रित प्रिअ गूड़ा ॥

Nai(nn) aloiaa ghati ghati soiaa ati ammmrit pria goo(rr)aa ||

With my eyes I have seen Him, sleeping upon the bed within each and every heart; my Beloved is the sweetest ambrosial nectar.

ਨਾਲਿ ਹੋਵੰਦਾ ਲਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੰਦਾ ਸੁਆਉ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਮੂੜਾ ॥

नालि होवंदा लहि न सकंदा सुआउ न जाणै मूड़ा ॥

Naali hovanddaa lahi na sakanddaa suaau na jaa(nn)ai moo(rr)aa ||

He is with all, but he cannot be found; the fool does not know His taste.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਹੋਛੀ ਬਾਤਾ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਭਰਮ ਧੜਾ ॥

माइआ मदि माता होछी बाता मिलणु न जाई भरम धड़ा ॥

Maaiaa madi maataa hochhee baataa mila(nn)u na jaaee bharam dha(rr)aa ||

Intoxicated with the wine of Maya, the mortal babbles on about trivial affairs; giving in to the illusion, he cannot meet the Lord.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਖੜਾ ॥੧॥

कहु नानक गुर बिनु नाही सूझै हरि साजनु सभ कै निकटि खड़ा ॥१॥

Kahu naanak gur binu naahee soojhai hari saajanu sabh kai nikati kha(rr)aa ||1||

Says Nanak, without the Guru, he cannot understand the Lord, the Friend who is standing near everyone. ||1||


ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ॥

गोबिंदा मेरे गोबिंदा प्राण अधारा मेरे गोबिंदा ॥

Gobinddaa mere gobinddaa praa(nn) adhaaraa mere gobinddaa ||

God, my God - the Support of the breath of life is my God.

ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਦਾਨ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥

किरपाला मेरे किरपाला दान दातारा मेरे किरपाला ॥

Kirapaalaa mere kirapaalaa daan daataaraa mere kirapaalaa ||

Merciful Lord, my Merciful Lord - the Giver of gifts is my Merciful Lord.

ਦਾਨ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿਆ ॥

दान दातारा अपर अपारा घट घट अंतरि सोहनिआ ॥

Daan daataaraa apar apaaraa ghat ghat anttari sohaniaa ||

The Giver of gifts is infinite and unlimited; deep within each and every heart, He is so beautiful!

ਇਕ ਦਾਸੀ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਬਲ ਪਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਲੈ ਮੋਹਨਿਆ ॥

इक दासी धारी सबल पसारी जीअ जंत लै मोहनिआ ॥

Ik daasee dhaaree sabal pasaaree jeea jantt lai mohaniaa ||

He created Maya, His slave, so powerfully pervasive - she has enticed all beings and creatures.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਭਾਖੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

जिस नो राखै सो सचु भाखै गुर का सबदु बीचारा ॥

Jis no raakhai so sachu bhaakhai gur kaa sabadu beechaaraa ||

One whom the Lord saves, chants the True Name, and contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥

कहु नानक जो प्रभ कउ भाणा तिस ही कउ प्रभु पिआरा ॥२॥

Kahu naanak jo prbh kau bhaa(nn)aa tis hee kau prbhu piaaraa ||2||

Says Nanak, one who is pleasing to God - God is very dear to him. ||2||


ਮਾਣੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਣੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਮਾਣੋ ॥

माणो प्रभ माणो मेरे प्रभ का माणो ॥

Maa(nn)o prbh maa(nn)o mere prbh kaa maa(nn)o ||

I take pride, I take pride in God; I take pride in my God.

ਜਾਣੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੋ ॥

जाणो प्रभु जाणो सुआमी सुघड़ु सुजाणो ॥

Jaa(nn)o prbhu jaa(nn)o suaamee sugha(rr)u sujaa(nn)o ||

Wise, God is wise; my Lord and Master is all-wise, and all-knowing.

ਸੁਘੜ ਸੁਜਾਨਾ ਸਦ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮਾ ॥

सुघड़ सुजाना सद परधाना अम्रितु हरि का नामा ॥

Sugha(rr) sujaanaa sad paradhaanaa ammmritu hari kaa naamaa ||

All-wise and all-knowing, and forever supreme; the Name of the Lord is Ambrosial Nectar.

ਚਾਖਿ ਅਘਾਣੇ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਣੇ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਗ ਮਥਾਨਾ ॥

चाखि अघाणे सारिगपाणे जिन कै भाग मथाना ॥

Chaakhi aghaa(nn)e saarigapaa(nn)e jin kai bhaag mathaanaa ||

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny recorded upon their foreheads, taste it, and are satisfied with the Lord of the Universe.

ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਮਾਣੋ ॥

तिन ही पाइआ तिनहि धिआइआ सगल तिसै का माणो ॥

Tin hee paaiaa tinahi dhiaaiaa sagal tisai kaa maa(nn)o ||

They meditate on Him, and find Him; they place all their pride in Him.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਥਿਰੁ ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਸਚੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਦੀਬਾਣੋ ॥੩॥

कहु नानक थिरु तखति निवासी सचु तिसै दीबाणो ॥३॥

Kahu naanak thiru takhati nivaasee sachu tisai deebaa(nn)o ||3||

Says Nanak, He is seated on His eternal throne; True is His royal court. ||3||


ਮੰਗਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮੰਗਲਾ ॥

मंगला हरि मंगला मेरे प्रभ कै सुणीऐ मंगला ॥

Manggalaa hari manggalaa mere prbh kai su(nn)eeai manggalaa ||

The song of joy, the Lord's song of joy; listen to the song of joy of my God.

ਸੋਹਿਲੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੋਹਿਲੜਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀਐ ਸੋਹਿਲੜਾ ॥

सोहिलड़ा प्रभ सोहिलड़ा अनहद धुनीऐ सोहिलड़ा ॥

Sohila(rr)aa prbh sohila(rr)aa anahad dhuneeai sohila(rr)aa ||

The wedding song, God's wedding song; the unstruck sound current of His wedding song resounds.

ਅਨਹਦ ਵਾਜੇ ਸਬਦ ਅਗਾਜੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਵਧਾਈ ॥

अनहद वाजे सबद अगाजे नित नित जिसहि वधाई ॥

Anahad vaaje sabad agaaje nit nit jisahi vadhaaee ||

The unstruck sound current vibrates, and the Word of the Shabad resounds; there is continuous, continual rejoicing.

ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥

सो प्रभु धिआईऐ सभु किछु पाईऐ मरै न आवै जाई ॥

So prbhu dhiaaeeai sabhu kichhu paaeeai marai na aavai jaaee ||

Meditating on that God, everything is obtained; He does not die, or come or go.

ਚੂਕੀ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਐ ॥

चूकी पिआसा पूरन आसा गुरमुखि मिलु निरगुनीऐ ॥

Chookee piaasaa pooran aasaa guramukhi milu niraguneeai ||

Thirst is quenched, and hopes are fulfilled; the Gurmukh meets with the absolute, unmanifest Lord.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਸੁਨੀਐ ॥੪॥੧॥

कहु नानक घरि प्रभ मेरे कै नित नित मंगलु सुनीऐ ॥४॥१॥

Kahu naanak ghari prbh mere kai nit nit manggalu suneeai ||4||1||

Says Nanak, in the Home of my God, the songs of joy are continuously, continually heard. ||4||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ॥

हरि हरि धिआइ मना खिनु न विसारीऐ ॥

Hari hari dhiaai manaa khinu na visaareeai ||

Meditate on the Lord Har Har, O mind; don't forget Him, even for an instant.

ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਾ ਕੰਠਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀਐ ॥

राम रामा राम रमा कंठि उर धारीऐ ॥

Raam raamaa raam ramaa kantthi ur dhaareeai ||

Enshrine the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam, Raam, within your heart and throat.

ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੋ ॥

उर धारि हरि हरि पुरखु पूरनु पारब्रहमु निरंजनो ॥

Ur dhaari hari hari purakhu pooranu paarabrhamu niranjjano ||

Enshrine within your heart the Primal Lord, Har, Har, the all-pervading, supreme, immaculate Lord God.

ਭੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਪਾਪ ਹਰਤਾ ਦੁਸਹ ਦੁਖ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨੋ ॥

भै दूरि करता पाप हरता दुसह दुख भव खंडनो ॥

Bhai doori karataa paap harataa dusah dukh bhav khanddano ||

He sends fear far away; He is the Destroyer of sin; He eradicates the unbearable pains of the terrifying world-ocean.

ਜਗਦੀਸ ਈਸ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਮਾਧੋ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ॥

जगदीस ईस गोपाल माधो गुण गोविंद वीचारीऐ ॥

Jagadees ees gaopaal maadho gu(nn) govindd veechaareeai ||

Contemplate the Lord of the World, the Cherisher of the World, the Lord, the Virtuous Lord of the Universe.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੀਐ ॥੧॥

बिनवंति नानक मिलि संगि साधू दिनसु रैणि चितारीऐ ॥१॥

Binavantti naanak mili sanggi saadhoo dinasu rai(nn)i chitaareeai ||1||

Prays Nanak, joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, remember the Lord, day and night. ||1||


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਆਧਾਰੁ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਆਸਰਾ ॥

चरन कमल आधारु जन का आसरा ॥

Charan kamal aadhaaru jan kaa aasaraa ||

His lotus feet are the support and anchor of His humble servants.

ਮਾਲੁ ਮਿਲਖ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਨੰਤ ਧਰਾ ॥

मालु मिलख भंडार नामु अनंत धरा ॥

Maalu milakh bhanddaar naamu anantt dharaa ||

He takes the Naam, the Name of the Infinite Lord, as his wealth, property and treasure.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਰਹਰ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਏਕ ਨਰਾਇਣਾ ॥

नामु नरहर निधानु जिन कै रस भोग एक नराइणा ॥

Naamu narahar nidhaanu jin kai ras bhog ek naraai(nn)aa ||

Those who have the treasure of the Lord's Name, enjoy the taste of the One Lord.

ਰਸ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਅਨੰਤ ਬੀਠਲ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਧਿਆਇਣਾ ॥

रस रूप रंग अनंत बीठल सासि सासि धिआइणा ॥

Ras roop rangg anantt beethal saasi saasi dhiaai(nn)aa ||

They meditate on the Infinite Lord with each and every breath, as their pleasure, joy and beauty.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹਰਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਹਰਾ ॥

किलविख हरणा नाम पुनहचरणा नामु जम की त्रास हरा ॥

Kilavikh hara(nn)aa naam punahachara(nn)aa naamu jam kee traas haraa ||

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the Destroyer of sins, the only deed of redemption. The Naam drives out the fear of the Messenger of Death.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਸਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਹ ਆਸਰਾ ॥੨॥

बिनवंति नानक रासि जन की चरन कमलह आसरा ॥२॥

Binavantti naanak raasi jan kee charan kamalah aasaraa ||2||

Prays Nanak, the support of His lotus feet is the capital of His humble servant. ||2||


ਗੁਣ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨਈ ॥

गुण बेअंत सुआमी तेरे कोइ न जानई ॥

Gu(nn) beantt suaamee tere koi na jaanaee ||

Your Glorious Virtues are endless, O my Lord and Master; no one knows them all.

ਦੇਖਿ ਚਲਤ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਣਿ ਭਗਤ ਵਖਾਨਈ ॥

देखि चलत दइआल सुणि भगत वखानई ॥

Dekhi chalat daiaal su(nn)i bhagat vakhaanaee ||

Seeing and hearing of Your wondrous plays, O Merciful Lord, Your devotees narrate them.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਪੁਰਖਪਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਾ ॥

जीअ जंत सभि तुझु धिआवहि पुरखपति परमेसरा ॥

Jeea jantt sabhi tujhu dhiaavahi purakhapati paramesaraa ||

All beings and creatures meditate on You, O Primal Transcendent Lord, Master of men.

ਸਰਬ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਏਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਜਗਦੀਸਰਾ ॥

सरब जाचिक एकु दाता करुणा मै जगदीसरा ॥

Sarab jaachik eku daataa karu(nn)aa mai jagadeesaraa ||

All beings are beggars; You are the One Giver, O Lord of the Universe, Embodiment of mercy.

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਤੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਮਾਨਈ ॥

साधू संतु सुजाणु सोई जिसहि प्रभ जी मानई ॥

Saadhoo santtu sujaa(nn)u soee jisahi prbh jee maanaee ||

He alone is holy, a Saint, a truly wise person, who is accepted by the Dear Lord.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੋਇ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਪਛਾਨਈ ॥੩॥

बिनवंति नानक करहु किरपा सोइ तुझहि पछानई ॥३॥

Binavantti naanak karahu kirapaa soi tujhahi pachhaanaee ||3||

Prays Nanak, they alone realize You, unto whom You show Mercy. ||3||


ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਸਰਣੀ ਆਇਆ ॥

मोहि निरगुण अनाथु सरणी आइआ ॥

Mohi niragu(nn) anaathu sara(nn)ee aaiaa ||

I am unworthy and without any master; I seek Your Sanctuary, Lord.

ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥

बलि बलि बलि गुरदेव जिनि नामु द्रिड़ाइआ ॥

Bali bali bali guradev jini naamu dri(rr)aaiaa ||

I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Divine Guru, who has implanted the Naam within me.

ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਕੁਸਲੁ ਥੀਆ ਸਰਬ ਇਛਾ ਪੁੰਨੀਆ ॥

गुरि नामु दीआ कुसलु थीआ सरब इछा पुंनीआ ॥

Guri naamu deeaa kusalu theeaa sarab ichhaa punneeaa ||

The Guru blessed me with the Naam; happiness came, and all my desires were fulfilled.

ਜਲਨੇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਮਿਲੇ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥

जलने बुझाई सांति आई मिले चिरी विछुंनिआ ॥

Jalane bujhaaee saanti aaee mile chiree vichhunniaa ||

The fire of desire has been quenched, and peace and tranquility have come; after such a long separation, I have met my Lord again.

ਆਨੰਦ ਹਰਖ ਸਹਜ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਹਾ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥

आनंद हरख सहज साचे महा मंगल गुण गाइआ ॥

Aanandd harakh sahaj saache mahaa manggal gu(nn) gaaiaa ||

I have found ecstasy, pleasure and true intuitive poise, singing the great glories, the song of bliss of the Lord.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:

ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਗਾਈਐ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ॥

रुण झुणो सबदु अनाहदु नित उठि गाईऐ संतन कै ॥

Ru(nn) jhu(nn)o sabadu anaahadu nit uthi gaaeeai santtan kai ||

Rise early each morning, and with the Saints, sing the melodious harmony, the unstruck sound current of the Shabad.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤਨ ਕੈ ॥

किलविख सभि दोख बिनासनु हरि नामु जपीऐ गुर मंतन कै ॥

Kilavikh sabhi dokh binaasanu hari naamu japeeai gur manttan kai ||

All sins and sufferings are erased chanting the Lord's Name, under Guru's Instructions.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੀਜੈ ਅਮਿਉ ਪੀਜੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਅਰਾਧੀਐ ॥

हरि नामु लीजै अमिउ पीजै रैणि दिनसु अराधीऐ ॥

Hari naamu leejai amiu peejai rai(nn)i dinasu araadheeai ||

Dwell upon the Lord's Name, and drink in the Nectar; day and night, worship and adore Him.

ਜੋਗ ਦਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਲਗਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲਹ ਸਾਧੀਐ ॥

जोग दान अनेक किरिआ लगि चरण कमलह साधीऐ ॥

Jog daan anek kiriaa lagi chara(nn) kamalah saadheeai ||

The merits of Yoga, charity and religious rituals are obtained by grasping His lotus feet.

ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੋਹਨ ਦੂਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥

भाउ भगति दइआल मोहन दूख सगले परहरै ॥

Bhaau bhagati daiaal mohan dookh sagale paraharai ||

Loving devotion to the merciful, enticing Lord takes away all pain.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰੈ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਰਹਰੈ ॥੧॥

बिनवंति नानक तरै सागरु धिआइ सुआमी नरहरै ॥१॥

Binavantti naanak tarai saagaru dhiaai suaamee naraharai ||1||

Prays Nanak, cross over the world-ocean, meditating on the Lord, your Lord and Master. ||1||


ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਭਗਤ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥

सुख सागर गोबिंद सिमरणु भगत गावहि गुण तेरे राम ॥

Sukh saagar gobindd simara(nn)u bhagat gaavahi gu(nn) tere raam ||

Meditation on the Lord of the Universe is an ocean of peace; Your devotees sing Your Glorious Praises, Lord.

ਅਨਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਪਾਏ ਸੂਖ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥

अनद मंगल गुर चरणी लागे पाए सूख घनेरे राम ॥

Anad manggal gur chara(nn)ee laage paae sookh ghanere raam ||

Ecstasy, bliss and great happiness are obtained by grasping hold of the Guru's feet.

ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਦੂਖ ਹਰਿਆ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥

सुख निधानु मिलिआ दूख हरिआ क्रिपा करि प्रभि राखिआ ॥

Sukh nidhaanu miliaa dookh hariaa kripaa kari prbhi raakhiaa ||

Meeting with the treasure of peace, their pains are taken away; granting His Grace, God protects them.

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਭਾਖਿਆ ॥

हरि चरण लागा भ्रमु भउ भागा हरि नामु रसना भाखिआ ॥

Hari chara(nn) laagaa bhrmu bhau bhaagaa hari naamu rasanaa bhaakhiaa ||

Those who grasp the Lord's feet - their fears and doubts run away, and they chant the Name of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਆਇਆ ॥

हरि एकु चितवै प्रभु एकु गावै हरि एकु द्रिसटी आइआ ॥

Hari eku chitavai prbhu eku gaavai hari eku drisatee aaiaa ||

He thinks of the One Lord, and he sings of the One God; he gazes upon the One Lord alone.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

बिनवंति नानक प्रभि करी किरपा पूरा सतिगुरु पाइआ ॥२॥

Binavantti naanak prbhi karee kirapaa pooraa satiguru paaiaa ||2||

Prays Nanak, God has granted His Grace, and I have found the Perfect True Guru. ||2||


ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਰਾਮ ॥

मिलि रहीऐ प्रभ साध जना मिलि हरि कीरतनु सुनीऐ राम ॥

Mili raheeai prbh saadh janaa mili hari keeratanu suneeai raam ||

Meet with the holy, humble servants of God; meeting with the Lord, listen to the Kirtan of His Praises.

ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਮਾਧੋ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਨੀਐ ਰਾਮ ॥

दइआल प्रभू दामोदर माधो अंतु न पाईऐ गुनीऐ राम ॥

Daiaal prbhoo daamodar maadho anttu na paaeeai guneeai raam ||

God is the Merciful Master, the Lord of wealth; there is no end to His Virtues.

ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਹਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਦੋਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੋ ॥

दइआल दुख हर सरणि दाता सगल दोख निवारणो ॥

Daiaal dukh har sara(nn)i daataa sagal dokh nivaara(nn)o ||

The Merciful Lord is the Dispeller of pain, the Giver of Sanctuary, the Eradicator of all evil.

ਮੋਹ ਸੋਗ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖੜੇ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਮ ਉਧਾਰਣੋ ॥

मोह सोग विकार बिखड़े जपत नाम उधारणो ॥

Moh sog vikaar bikha(rr)e japat naam udhaara(nn)o ||

Emotional attachment, sorrow, corruption and pain - chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one is saved from these.

ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਭ ਰੇਣ ਥੀਵਾ ॥

सभि जीअ तेरे प्रभू मेरे करि किरपा सभ रेण थीवा ॥

Sabhi jeea tere prbhoo mere kari kirapaa sabh re(nn) theevaa ||

All beings are Yours, O my God; bless me with Your Mercy, that I may become the dust under the feet of all men.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਇਆ ਕੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾ ॥੩॥

बिनवंति नानक प्रभ मइआ कीजै नामु तेरा जपि जीवा ॥३॥

Binavantti naanak prbh maiaa keejai naamu teraa japi jeevaa ||3||

Prays Nanak, O God, be kind to me, that I may chant Your Name, and live. ||3||


ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਅਪਣੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥

राखि लीए प्रभि भगत जना अपणी चरणी लाए राम ॥

Raakhi leee prbhi bhagat janaa apa(nn)ee chara(nn)ee laae raam ||

God saves His humble devotees, attaching them to His feet.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਅਪਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰਹ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਰਾਮ ॥

आठ पहर अपना प्रभु सिमरह एको नामु धिआए राम ॥

Aath pahar apanaa prbhu simarah eko naamu dhiaae raam ||

Twenty-four hours a day, they meditate in remembrance on their God; they meditate on the One Name.

ਧਿਆਇ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਰੇ ਭਵਜਲ ਰਹੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ॥

धिआइ सो प्रभु तरे भवजल रहे आवण जाणा ॥

Dhiaai so prbhu tare bhavajal rahe aava(nn) jaa(nn)aa ||

Meditating on that God, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean, and their comings and goings cease.

ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲਗਾ ਮੀਠਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥

सदा सुखु कलिआण कीरतनु प्रभ लगा मीठा भाणा ॥

Sadaa sukhu kaliaa(nn) keeratanu prbh lagaa meethaa bhaa(nn)aa ||

They enjoy eternal peace and pleasure, singing the Kirtan of God's Praises; His Will seems so sweet to them.

ਸਭ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਿਆ ॥

सभ इछ पुंनी आस पूरी मिले सतिगुर पूरिआ ॥

Sabh ichh punnee aas pooree mile satigur pooriaa ||

All my desires are fulfilled, meeting with the Perfect True Guru.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸੂਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥

बिनवंति नानक प्रभि आपि मेले फिरि नाही दूख विसूरिआ ॥४॥३॥

Binavantti naanak prbhi aapi mele phiri naahee dookh visooriaa ||4||3||

Prays Nanak, God has blended me with Himself; I shall never suffer pain or sorrow again. ||4||3||

चरन कमल सरणागती अनद मंगल गुण गाम ॥

Charan kamal sara(nn)aagatee anad manggal gu(nn) gaam ||

In the Sanctuary of His lotus feet, I sing His Glorious Praises in ecstasy and bliss.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਣ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥

नानक प्रभु आराधीऐ बिपति निवारण राम ॥१॥

Naanak prbhu aaraadheeai bipati nivaara(nn) raam ||1||

O Nanak, worship God in adoration, the Eradicator of misfortune. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

प्रभ बिपति निवारणो तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोइ जीउ ॥

Prbh bipati nivaara(nn)o tisu binu avaru na koi jeeu ||

God is the Eradicator of misfortune; there is none other than Him.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

सदा सदा हरि सिमरीऐ जलि थलि महीअलि सोइ जीउ ॥

Sadaa sadaa hari simareeai jali thali maheeali soi jeeu ||

Forever and ever, remember the Lord in meditation; He is permeating the water, the land and the sky.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥

जलि थलि महीअलि पूरि रहिआ इक निमख मनहु न वीसरै ॥

Jali thali maheeali poori rahiaa ik nimakh manahu na veesarai ||

He is permeating and pervading the water, the land and the sky; do not forget Him from your mind, even for an instant.

ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਦਿਨ ਸਭਾਗੇ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਜਗਦੀਸਰੈ ॥

गुर चरन लागे दिन सभागे सरब गुण जगदीसरै ॥

Gur charan laage din sabhaage sarab gu(nn) jagadeesarai ||

Blessed was that day, when I grasped the Guru's feet; all virtues rest in the Lord of the Universe.

ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵ ਸੇਵਕ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

करि सेव सेवक दिनसु रैणी तिसु भावै सो होइ जीउ ॥

Kari sev sevak dinasu rai(nn)ee tisu bhaavai so hoi jeeu ||

So serve Him day and night, O servant; whatever pleases Him, happens.

ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਖਹ ਦਾਤੇ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

बलि जाइ नानकु सुखह दाते परगासु मनि तनि होइ जीउ ॥१॥

Bali jaai naanaku sukhah daate paragaasu mani tani hoi jeeu ||1||

Nanak is a sacrifice to the Giver of peace; his mind and body are enlightened. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਸੋਚ ॥

हरि सिमरत मनु तनु सुखी बिनसी दुतीआ सोच ॥

Hari simarat manu tanu sukhee binasee duteeaa soch ||

Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, the mind and body find peace; the thought of duality is dispelled.

ਨਾਨਕ ਟੇਕ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਕੀ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਸੰਕਟ ਮੋਚ ॥੧॥

नानक टेक गोपाल की गोविंद संकट मोच ॥१॥

Naanak tek gaopaal kee govindd sankkat moch ||1||

Nanak takes the support of the Lord of the World, the Lord of the Universe, the Destroyer of troubles. ||1||

Chhant:

ਭੈ ਸੰਕਟ ਕਾਟੇ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਦਇਆਲ ਜੀਉ ॥

भै संकट काटे नाराइण दइआल जीउ ॥

Bhai sankkat kaate naaraai(nn) daiaal jeeu ||

The Merciful Lord has eradicated my fears and troubles.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਆਨੰਦ ਗਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਜੀਉ ॥

हरि गुण आनंद गाए प्रभ दीना नाथ प्रतिपाल जीउ ॥

Hari gu(nn) aanandd gaae prbh deenaa naath prtipaal jeeu ||

In ecstasy, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; God is the Cherisher, the Master of the meek.

ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਅਚੁਤ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਏਕੋ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

प्रतिपाल अचुत पुरखु एको तिसहि सिउ रंगु लागा ॥

Prtipaal achut purakhu eko tisahi siu ranggu laagaa ||

The Cherishing Lord is imperishable, the One and only Primal Lord; I am imbued with His Love.

ਕਰ ਚਰਨ ਮਸਤਕੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਾ ॥

कर चरन मसतकु मेलि लीने सदा अनदिनु जागा ॥

Kar charan masataku meli leene sadaa anadinu jaagaa ||

When I placed my hands and forehead upon His Feet, He blended me with Himself; I became awake and aware forever, night and day.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਤਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਮਾਲੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

जीउ पिंडु ग्रिहु थानु तिस का तनु जोबनु धनु मालु जीउ ॥

Jeeu pinddu grihu thaanu tis kaa tanu jobanu dhanu maalu jeeu ||

My soul, body, household and home belong to Him, along with my body, youth, wealth and property.

ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

सद सदा बलि जाइ नानकु सरब जीआ प्रतिपाल जीउ ॥२॥

Sad sadaa bali jaai naanaku sarab jeeaa prtipaal jeeu ||2||

Forever and ever, Nanak is a sacrifice to Him, who cherishes and nurtures all beings. ||2||

Shalok:

ਰਸਨਾ ਉਚਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਵਖਿਆਨ ॥

रसना उचरै हरि हरे गुण गोविंद वखिआन ॥

Rasanaa ucharai hari hare gu(nn) govindd vakhiaan ||

My tongue chants the Name of the Lord, and chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਕੜੀ ਟੇਕ ਏਕ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਰਖੈ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥੧॥

नानक पकड़ी टेक एक परमेसरु रखै निदान ॥१॥

Naanak paka(rr)ee tek ek paramesaru rakhai nidaan ||1||

Nanak has grasped the sheltering support of the One Transcendent Lord, who shall save him in the end. ||1||


ਛੰਤੁ ॥

Chhant:

ਸੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਖਕੋ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਲਾਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

सो सुआमी प्रभु रखको अंचलि ता कै लागु जीउ ॥

So suaamee prbhu rakhako ancchali taa kai laagu jeeu ||

He is God, our Lord and Master, our Saving Grace. Grab hold of the hem of His robe.

ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੇਵ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

भजु साधू संगि दइआल देव मन की मति तिआगु जीउ ॥

Bhaju saadhoo sanggi daiaal dev man kee mati tiaagu jeeu ||

Vibrate, and meditate on the Merciful Divine Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; renounce your intellectual mind.

ਇਕ ਓਟ ਕੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਜੈ ਆਸ ਇਕ ਧਰਣੀਧਰੈ ॥

इक ओट कीजै जीउ दीजै आस इक धरणीधरै ॥

Ik ot keejai jeeu deejai aas ik dhara(nn)eedharai ||

Seek the Support of the One Lord, and surrender your soul to Him; place your hopes only in the Sustainer of the World.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਰੈ ॥

साधसंगे हरि नाम रंगे संसारु सागरु सभु तरै ॥

Saadhasangge hari naam rangge sanssaaru saagaru sabhu tarai ||

Those who are imbued with the Lord's Name, in the Saadh Sangat, cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਛੂਟੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਾਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

जनम मरण बिकार छूटे फिरि न लागै दागु जीउ ॥

Janam mara(nn) bikaar chhoote phiri na laagai daagu jeeu ||

The corrupting sins of birth and death are eradicated, and no stain ever sticks to them again.

ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਥਿਰੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

बलि जाइ नानकु पुरख पूरन थिरु जा का सोहागु जीउ ॥३॥

Bali jaai naanaku purakh pooran thiru jaa kaa sohaagu jeeu ||3||

Nanak is a sacrifice to the Perfect Primal Lord; His marriage is eternal. ||3||

ਧਰਮ ਅਰਥ ਅਰੁ ਕਾਮ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਾਥ ॥

धरम अरथ अरु काम मोख मुकति पदारथ नाथ ॥

Dharam arath aru kaam mokh mukati padaarath naath ||

Righteous faith, wealth, sexual success and salvation; the Lord bestows these four blessings.

सगल मनोरथ पूरिआ नानक लिखिआ माथ ॥१॥

Sagal manorath pooriaa naanak likhiaa maath ||1||

One who has such pre-ordained destiny upon his forehead, O Nanak, has all his desires fulfilled. ||1||

ਸਗਲ ਇਛ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੁੰਨੀਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਰਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

सगल इछ मेरी पुंनीआ मिलिआ निरंजन राइ जीउ ॥

Sagal ichh meree punneeaa miliaa niranjjan raai jeeu ||

All my desires are fulfilled, meeting with my Immaculate, Sovereign Lord.

ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

अनदु भइआ वडभागीहो ग्रिहि प्रगटे प्रभ आइ जीउ ॥

Anadu bhaiaa vadabhaageeho grihi prgate prbh aai jeeu ||

I am in ecstasy, O very fortunate ones; the Dear Lord has become manifest in my own home.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਲਾਲ ਆਏ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਏ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਿਆ ਗਣਾ ॥

ग्रिहि लाल आए पुरबि कमाए ता की उपमा किआ गणा ॥

Grihi laal aae purabi kamaae taa kee upamaa kiaa ga(nn)aa ||

My Beloved has come to my home, because of my past actions; how can I count His Glories?

ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਵਨ ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਭਣਾ ॥

बेअंत पूरन सुख सहज दाता कवन रसना गुण भणा ॥

Beantt pooran sukh sahaj daataa kavan rasanaa gu(nn) bha(nn)aa ||

The Lord, the Giver of peace and intuition, is infinite and perfect; with what tongue can I describe His Glorious Virtues?

ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

आपे मिलाए गहि कंठि लाए तिसु बिना नही जाइ जीउ ॥

Aape milaae gahi kantthi laae tisu binaa nahee jaai jeeu ||

He hugs me close in His embrace, and merges me into Himself; there is no place of rest other than Him.

ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਤੇ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੪॥

बलि जाइ नानकु सदा करते सभ महि रहिआ समाइ जीउ ॥४॥४॥

Bali jaai naanaku sadaa karate sabh mahi rahiaa samaai jeeu ||4||4||

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Creator, who is contained in, and permeating all. ||4||4||

रण झुंझनड़ा गाउ सखी हरि एकु धिआवहु ॥

Ra(nn) jhunjjhana(rr)aa gaau sakhee hari eku dhiaavahu ||

Sing the melodious harmonies, O my companions, and meditate on the One Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਮ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਖੀ ਮਨਿ ਚਿੰਦਿਅੜਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥

सतिगुरु तुम सेवि सखी मनि चिंदिअड़ा फलु पावहु ॥

Satiguru tum sevi sakhee mani chinddia(rr)aa phalu paavahu ||

Serve your True Guru, O my companions, and you shall obtain the fruits of your mind's desires.

ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਾਛਉ ਸਾਧਹ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

करि बंदन प्रभ पारब्रहम बाछउ साधह धूरि ॥

Kari banddan prbh paarabrham baachhau saadhah dhoori ||

Bow to the Supreme Lord God, and seek the dust of the feet of the Holy.

ਆਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੧॥

आपु निवारि हरि हरि भजउ नानक प्रभ भरपूरि ॥१॥

Aapu nivaari hari hari bhajau naanak prbh bharapoori ||1||

Cast out your self-conceit, and vibrate, meditate, on the Lord, Har, Har. O Nanak, God is all-pervading. ||1||


ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟਣ ਭੈ ਹਰਣ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥

किलविख काटण भै हरण सुख सागर हरि राइ ॥

Kilavikh kaata(nn) bhai hara(nn) sukh saagar hari raai ||

He is the Eradicator of sins, the Destroyer of fear, the Ocean of peace, the Sovereign Lord King.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੀਤ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੨॥

दीन दइआल दुख भंजनो नानक नीत धिआइ ॥२॥

Deen daiaal dukh bhanjjano naanak neet dhiaai ||2||

Merciful to the meek, the Destroyer of pain: O Nanak, always meditate on Him. ||2||

ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਜੀਉ ॥

जसु गावहु वडभागीहो करि किरपा भगवंत जीउ ॥

Jasu gaavahu vadabhaageeho kari kirapaa bhagavantt jeeu ||

Sing His Praises, O very fortunate ones, and the Dear Lord God shall bless you with His Mercy.

ਰੁਤੀ ਮਾਹ ਮੂਰਤ ਘੜੀ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰਤ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ਜੀਉ ॥

रुती माह मूरत घड़ी गुण उचरत सोभावंत जीउ ॥

Rutee maah moorat gha(rr)ee gu(nn) ucharat sobhaavantt jeeu ||

Blessed and auspicious is that season, that month, that moment, that hour, when you chant the Lord's Glorious Praises.

ਗੁਣ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਧੰਨਿ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਜਿਨੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

गुण रंगि राते धंनि ते जन जिनी इक मनि धिआइआ ॥

Gu(nn) ranggi raate dhanni te jan jinee ik mani dhiaaiaa ||

Blessed are those humble beings, who are imbued with love for His Praises, and who meditate single-mindedly on Him.

ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਜਿਨੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

सफल जनमु भइआ तिन का जिनी सो प्रभु पाइआ ॥

Saphal janamu bhaiaa tin kaa jinee so prbhu paaiaa ||

Their lives become fruitful, and they find that Lord God.

ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਨ ਤੁਲਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਪਾਪਾ ਹੰਤ ਜੀਉ ॥

पुंन दान न तुलि किरिआ हरि सरब पापा हंत जीउ ॥

Punn daan na tuli kiriaa hari sarab paapaa hantt jeeu ||

Donations to charities and religious rituals are not equal to meditation on the Lord, who destroys all sins.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਰਹੰਤ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

बिनवंति नानक सिमरि जीवा जनम मरण रहंत जीउ ॥१॥

Binavantti naanak simari jeevaa janam mara(nn) rahantt jeeu ||1||

Prays Nanak, meditating in remembrance on Him, I live; birth and death are finished for me. ||1||

ਉਦਮੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੋ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥

उदमु अगमु अगोचरो चरन कमल नमसकार ॥

Udamu agamu agocharo charan kamal namasakaar ||

Strive for the inaccessible and unfathomable Lord, and bow in humility to His lotus feet.

ਕਥਨੀ ਸਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥

कथनी सा तुधु भावसी नानक नाम अधार ॥१॥

Kathanee saa tudhu bhaavasee naanak naam adhaar ||1||

O Nanak, that sermon alone is pleasing to You, Lord, which inspires us to take the Support of the Name. ||1||


ਸੰਤ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਪਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

संत सरणि साजन परहु सुआमी सिमरि अनंत ॥

Santt sara(nn)i saajan parahu suaamee simari anantt ||

Seek the Sanctuary of the Saints, O friends; meditate in remembrance on your infinite Lord and Master.

ਸੂਕੇ ਤੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਥੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੨॥

सूके ते हरिआ थीआ नानक जपि भगवंत ॥२॥

Sooke te hariaa theeaa naanak japi bhagavantt ||2||

The dried branch shall blossom forth in its greenery again, O Nanak, meditating on the Lord God. ||2||

ਰੁਤਿ ਸਰਸ ਬਸੰਤ ਮਾਹ ਚੇਤੁ ਵੈਸਾਖ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

रुति सरस बसंत माह चेतु वैसाख सुख मासु जीउ ॥

Ruti saras basantt maah chetu vaisaakh sukh maasu jeeu ||

The season of spring is delightful; the months of Chayt and Baisaakhi are the most pleasant months.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨਾਹੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

हरि जीउ नाहु मिलिआ मउलिआ मनु तनु सासु जीउ ॥

Hari jeeu naahu miliaa mauliaa manu tanu saasu jeeu ||

I have obtained the Dear Lord as my Husband, and my mind, body and breath have blossomed forth.

ਘਰਿ ਨਾਹੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਅਨਦੁ ਸਖੀਏ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਿਆ ॥

घरि नाहु निहचलु अनदु सखीए चरन कमल प्रफुलिआ ॥

Ghari naahu nihachalu anadu sakheee charan kamal prphuliaa ||

The eternal, unchanging Lord has come into my home as my Husband, O my companions; dwelling upon His lotus feet, I blossom forth in bliss.

ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਬੇਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਅਮੁਲਿਆ ॥

सुंदरु सुघड़ु सुजाणु बेता गुण गोविंद अमुलिआ ॥

Sunddaru sugha(rr)u sujaa(nn)u betaa gu(nn) govindd amuliaa ||

The Lord of the Universe is beautiful, proficient, wise and all-knowing;

ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਭਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ਜੀਉ ॥

वडभागि पाइआ दुखु गवाइआ भई पूरन आस जीउ ॥

Vadabhaagi paaiaa dukhu gavaaiaa bhaee pooran aas jeeu ||

His Virtues are priceless. By great good fortune, I have found Him; my pain is dispelled, and my hopes are fulfilled.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

बिनवंति नानक सरणि तेरी मिटी जम की त्रास जीउ ॥२॥

Binavantti naanak sara(nn)i teree mitee jam kee traas jeeu ||2||

Prays Nanak, I have entered Your Sanctuary, Lord, and my fear of death is eradicated. ||2||

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਮੁਈ ਕਰਤੀ ਕਰਮ ਅਨੇਕ ॥

साधसंगति बिनु भ्रमि मुई करती करम अनेक ॥

Saadhasanggati binu bhrmi muee karatee karam anek ||

Without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one dies wandering around in confusion, performing all sorts of rituals.

ਕੋਮਲ ਬੰਧਨ ਬਾਧੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮਹਿ ਲੇਖ ॥੧॥

कोमल बंधन बाधीआ नानक करमहि लेख ॥१॥

Komal banddhan baadheeaa naanak karamahi lekh ||1||

O Nanak, all are bound by the attractive bonds of Maya, and the karmic record of past actions. ||1||


ਜੋ ਭਾਣੇ ਸੇ ਮੇਲਿਆ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਿ ॥

जो भाणे से मेलिआ विछोड़े भी आपि ॥

Jo bhaa(nn)e se meliaa vichho(rr)e bhee aapi ||

Those who are pleasing to God are united with Him; He separates others from Himself.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਵਡ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥੨॥

नानक प्रभ सरणागती जा का वड परतापु ॥२॥

Naanak prbh sara(nn)aagatee jaa kaa vad parataapu ||2||

Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of God; His greatness is glorious! ||2||

ਗ੍ਰੀਖਮ ਰੁਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਗਾਖੜੀ ਜੇਠ ਅਖਾੜੈ ਘਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥

ग्रीखम रुति अति गाखड़ी जेठ अखाड़ै घाम जीउ ॥

Greekham ruti ati gaakha(rr)ee jeth akhaa(rr)ai ghaam jeeu ||

In the summer season in the months of Jayt'h and Asaarh the heat is terrible, intense and severe.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਛੋਹੁ ਦੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨ ਕਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥

प्रेम बिछोहु दुहागणी द्रिसटि न करी राम जीउ ॥

Prem bichhohu duhaaga(nn)ee drisati na karee raam jeeu ||

The discarded bride is separated from His Love, and the Lord does not even look at her.

ਨਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਆਵੈ ਮਰਤ ਹਾਵੈ ਮਹਾ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਮੁਠੀਆ ॥

नह द्रिसटि आवै मरत हावै महा गारबि मुठीआ ॥

Nah drisati aavai marat haavai mahaa gaarabi mutheeaa ||

She does not see her Lord, and she dies with an aching sigh; she is defrauded and plundered by her great pride.

ਜਲ ਬਾਝੁ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਤੜਫੜਾਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੁਠੀਆ ॥

जल बाझु मछुली तड़फड़ावै संगि माइआ रुठीआ ॥

Jal baajhu machhulee ta(rr)apha(rr)aavai sanggi maaiaa rutheeaa ||

She flails around, like a fish out of water; attached to Maya, she is alienated from the Lord.

ਕਰਿ ਪਾਪ ਜੋਨੀ ਭੈ ਭੀਤ ਹੋਈ ਦੇਇ ਸਾਸਨ ਜਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥

करि पाप जोनी भै भीत होई देइ सासन जाम जीउ ॥

Kari paap jonee bhai bheet hoee dei saasan jaam jeeu ||

She sins, and so she is fearful of reincarnation; the Messenger of Death will surely punish her.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

बिनवंति नानक ओट तेरी राखु पूरन काम जीउ ॥३॥

Binavantti naanak ot teree raakhu pooran kaam jeeu ||3||

Prays Nanak, take me under Your sheltering support, Lord, and protect me; You are the Fulfiller of desire. ||3||

ਸਰਧਾ ਲਾਗੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੈ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

सरधा लागी संगि प्रीतमै इकु तिलु रहणु न जाइ ॥

Saradhaa laagee sanggi preetamai iku tilu raha(nn)u na jaai ||

With loving faith, I am attached to my Beloved; I cannot survive without Him, even for an instant.

ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥

मन तन अंतरि रवि रहे नानक सहजि सुभाइ ॥१॥

Man tan anttari ravi rahe naanak sahaji subhaai ||1||

He is permeating and pervading my mind and body, O Nanak, with intuitive ease. ||1||


ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੀ ਸਾਜਨਹਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮੀਤ ॥

करु गहि लीनी साजनहि जनम जनम के मीत ॥

Karu gahi leenee saajanahi janam janam ke meet ||

My Friend has taken me by the hand; He has been my best friend, lifetime after lifetime.

ਚਰਨਹ ਦਾਸੀ ਕਰਿ ਲਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਤ ॥੨॥

चरनह दासी करि लई नानक प्रभ हित चीत ॥२॥

Charanah daasee kari laee naanak prbh hit cheet ||2||

He has made me the slave of His feet; O Nanak, my consciousness is filled with love for God. ||2||

रुति बरसु सुहेलीआ सावण भादवे आनंद जीउ ॥

Ruti barasu suheleeaa saava(nn) bhaadave aanandd jeeu ||

The rainy season is beautiful; the months of Saawan and Bhaadon bring bliss.

ਘਣ ਉਨਵਿ ਵੁਠੇ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਜੀਉ ॥

घण उनवि वुठे जल थल पूरिआ मकरंद जीउ ॥

Gha(nn) unavi vuthe jal thal pooriaa makarandd jeeu ||

The clouds are low, and heavy with rain; the waters and the lands are filled with honey.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬ ਠਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭਰੇ ॥

प्रभु पूरि रहिआ सरब ठाई हरि नाम नव निधि ग्रिह भरे ॥

Prbhu poori rahiaa sarab thaaee hari naam nav nidhi grih bhare ||

God is all-pervading everywhere; the nine treasures of the Lord's Name fill the homes of all hearts.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹਾ ਸਭਿ ਤਰੇ ॥

सिमरि सुआमी अंतरजामी कुल समूहा सभि तरे ॥

Simari suaamee anttarajaamee kul samoohaa sabhi tare ||

Meditating in remembrance on the Lord and Master, the Searcher of hearts, all one's ancestry is saved.

ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੰਗਿ ਜਾਗੇ ਨਹ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸਦ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

प्रिअ रंगि जागे नह छिद्र लागे क्रिपालु सद बखसिंदु जीउ ॥

Pria ranggi jaage nah chhidr laage kripaalu sad bakhasinddu jeeu ||

No blemish sticks to that being who remains awake and aware in the Love of the Lord; the Merciful Lord is forever forgiving.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੰਦੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥

बिनवंति नानक हरि कंतु पाइआ सदा मनि भावंदु जीउ ॥४॥

Binavantti naanak hari kanttu paaiaa sadaa mani bhaavanddu jeeu ||4||

Prays Nanak, I have found my Husband Lord, who is forever pleasing to my mind. ||4||

ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਮੈ ਫਿਰਉ ਕਬ ਪੇਖਉ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥

आस पिआसी मै फिरउ कब पेखउ गोपाल ॥

Aas piaasee mai phirau kab pekhau gopaal ||

Thirsty with desire, I wander around; when will I behold the Lord of the World?

है कोई साजनु संत जनु नानक प्रभ मेलणहार ॥१॥

Hai koee saajanu santt janu naanak prbh mela(nn)ahaar ||1||

Is there any humble Saint, any friend, O Nanak, who can lead me to meet with God? ||1||


ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

बिनु मिलबे सांति न ऊपजै तिलु पलु रहणु न जाइ ॥

Binu milabe saanti na upajai tilu palu raha(nn)u na jaai ||

Without meeting Him, I have no peace or tranquility; I cannot survive for a moment, even for an instant.

ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧਹ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

हरि साधह सरणागती नानक आस पुजाइ ॥२॥

Hari saadhah sara(nn)aagatee naanak aas pujaai ||2||

Entering the Sanctuary of the Lord's Holy Saints, O Nanak, my desires are fulfilled. ||2||

रुति सरद अड्मबरो असू कतके हरि पिआस जीउ ॥

Ruti sarad adambbaro asoo katake hari piaas jeeu ||

In the cool, autumn season, in the months of Assu and Katik, I am thirsty for the Lord.

ਖੋਜੰਤੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਫਿਰਤ ਕਬ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ਜੀਉ ॥

खोजंती दरसनु फिरत कब मिलीऐ गुणतास जीउ ॥

Khojanttee darasanu phirat kab mileeai gu(nn)ataas jeeu ||

Searching for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, I wander around wondering, when will I meet my Lord, the treasure of virtue?

ਬਿਨੁ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਹ ਸੂਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਾਰ ਕੰਙਣ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਬਨਾ ॥

बिनु कंत पिआरे नह सूख सारे हार कंङण ध्रिगु बना ॥

Binu kantt piaare nah sookh saare haar kan(ng)(ng)a(nn) dhrigu banaa ||

Without my Beloved Husband Lord, I find no peace, and all my necklaces and bracelets become cursed.

ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸੁਜਾਣਿ ਚਤੁਰਿ ਬੇਤੀ ਸਾਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਤਨਾ ॥

सुंदरि सुजाणि चतुरि बेती सास बिनु जैसे तना ॥

Sunddari sujaa(nn)i chaturi betee saas binu jaise tanaa ||

So beautiful, so wise, so clever and knowing; still, without the breath, it is just a body.

ਈਤ ਉਤ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਅਲੋਕਨ ਮਨਿ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਿਆਸ ਜੀਉ ॥

ईत उत दह दिस अलोकन मनि मिलन की प्रभ पिआस जीउ ॥

Eet ut dah dis alokan mani milan kee prbh piaas jeeu ||

I look here and there, in the ten directions; my mind is so thirsty to meet God!

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥

बिनवंति नानक धारि किरपा मेलहु प्रभ गुणतास जीउ ॥५॥

Binavantti naanak dhaari kirapaa melahu prbh gu(nn)ataas jeeu ||5||

Prays Nanak, shower Your Mercy upon me; unite me with Yourself, O God, O treasure of virtue. ||5||

ਜਲਣਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਭਏ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਉਪਜੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥

जलणि बुझी सीतल भए मनि तनि उपजी सांति ॥

Jala(nn)i bujhee seetal bhae mani tani upajee saanti ||

The fire of desire is cooled and quenched; my mind and body are filled with peace and tranquility.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਭ੍ਰਾਂਤਿ ॥੧॥

नानक प्रभ पूरन मिले दुतीआ बिनसी भ्रांति ॥१॥

Naanak prbh pooran mile duteeaa binasee bhraanti ||1||

O Nanak, I have met my Perfect God; the illusion of duality is dispelled. ||1||


ਸਾਧ ਪਠਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

साध पठाए आपि हरि हम तुम ते नाही दूरि ॥

Saadh pathaae aapi hari ham tum te naahee doori ||

The Lord Himself sent His Holy Saints, to tell us that He is not far away.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੈ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਰਮਣ ਰਾਮ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੨॥

नानक भ्रम भै मिटि गए रमण राम भरपूरि ॥२॥

Naanak bhrm bhai miti gae rama(nn) raam bharapoori ||2||

O Nanak, doubt and fear are dispelled, chanting the Name of the all-pervading Lord. ||2||

रुति सिसीअर सीतल हरि प्रगटे मंघर पोहि जीउ ॥

Ruti siseear seetal hari prgate mangghar pohi jeeu ||

In the cold season of Maghar and Poh, the Lord reveals Himself.

ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਜੀਉ ॥

जलनि बुझी दरसु पाइआ बिनसे माइआ ध्रोह जीउ ॥

Jalani bujhee darasu paaiaa binase maaiaa dhroh jeeu ||

My burning desires were quenched, when I obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; the fraudulent illusion of Maya is gone.

ਸਭਿ ਕਾਮ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਜੂਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸੇਵਕਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ॥

सभि काम पूरे मिलि हजूरे हरि चरण सेवकि सेविआ ॥

Sabhi kaam poore mili hajoore hari chara(nn) sevaki seviaa ||

All my desires have been fulfilled, meeting the Lord face-to-face; I am His servant, I serve at His feet.

ਹਾਰ ਡੋਰ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਿਆ ॥

हार डोर सीगार सभि रस गुण गाउ अलख अभेविआ ॥

Haar dor seegaar sabhi ras gu(nn) gaau alakh abheviaa ||

My necklaces, hair-ties, all decorations and adornments, are in singing the Glorious Praises of the unseen, mysterious Lord.

ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਜਮੁ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਜੋਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

भाउ भगति गोविंद बांछत जमु न साकै जोहि जीउ ॥

Bhaau bhagati govindd baanchhat jamu na saakai johi jeeu ||

I long for loving devotion to the Lord of the Universe, and so the Messenger of Death cannot even see me.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਤਹ ਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਛੋਹ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥

बिनवंति नानक प्रभि आपि मेली तह न प्रेम बिछोह जीउ ॥६॥

Binavantti naanak prbhi aapi melee tah na prem bichhoh jeeu ||6||

Prays Nanak, God has united me with Himself; I shall never suffer separation from my Beloved again. ||6||

हरि धनु पाइआ सोहागणी डोलत नाही चीत ॥

Hari dhanu paaiaa sohaaga(nn)ee dolat naahee cheet ||

The happy soul bride has found the wealth of the Lord; her consciousness does not waver.

ਸੰਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥

संत संजोगी नानका ग्रिहि प्रगटे प्रभ मीत ॥१॥

Santt sanjjogee naanakaa grihi prgate prbh meet ||1||

Joining together with the Saints, O Nanak, God, my Friend, has revealed Himself in my home. ||1||


ਨਾਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਅਨੰਦ ਕੋਡ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਨੇ ॥

नाद बिनोद अनंद कोड प्रिअ प्रीतम संगि बने ॥

Naad binod anandd kod pria preetam sanggi bane ||

With her Beloved Husband Lord, she enjoys millions of melodies, pleasures and joys.

ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਭਨੇ ॥੨॥

मन बांछत फल पाइआ हरि नानक नाम भने ॥२॥

Man baanchhat phal paaiaa hari naanak naam bhane ||2||

The fruits of the mind's desires are obtained, O Nanak, chanting the Lord's Name. ||2||

हिमकर रुति मनि भावती माघु फगणु गुणवंत जीउ ॥

Himakar ruti mani bhaavatee maaghu phaga(nn)u gu(nn)avantt jeeu ||

The snowy winter season, the months of Maagh and Phagun, are pleasing and ennobling to the mind.

ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਗਾਉ ਮੰਗਲੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਏ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਤ ਜੀਉ ॥

सखी सहेली गाउ मंगलो ग्रिहि आए हरि कंत जीउ ॥

Sakhee sahelee gaau manggalo grihi aae hari kantt jeeu ||

O my friends and companions, sing the songs of joy; my Husband Lord has come into my home.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਲਾਲ ਆਏ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਏ ਸੇਜ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸੋਹੀਆ ॥

ग्रिहि लाल आए मनि धिआए सेज सुंदरि सोहीआ ॥

Grihi laal aae mani dhiaae sej sunddari soheeaa ||

My Beloved has come into my home; I meditate on Him in my mind. The bed of my heart is beautifully adorned.

ਵਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਭਏ ਹਰਿਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਮੋਹੀਆ ॥

वणु त्रिणु त्रिभवण भए हरिआ देखि दरसन मोहीआ ॥

Va(nn)u tri(nn)u tribhava(nn) bhae hariaa dekhi darasan moheeaa ||

The woods, the meadows and the three worlds have blossomed forth in their greenery; gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, I am fascinated.

ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੰਤ ਜੀਉ ॥

मिले सुआमी इछ पुंनी मनि जपिआ निरमल मंत जीउ ॥

Mile suaamee ichh punnee mani japiaa niramal mantt jeeu ||

I have met my Lord and Master, and my desires are fulfilled; my mind chants His Immaculate Mantra.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਹੁ ਰਲੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਕੰਤ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥

बिनवंति नानक नित करहु रलीआ हरि मिले स्रीधर कंत जीउ ॥७॥

Binavantti naanak nit karahu raleeaa hari mile sreedhar kantt jeeu ||7||

Prays Nanak, I celebrate continuously; I have met my Husband Lord, the Lord of excellence. ||7||

ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥

संत सहाई जीअ के भवजल तारणहार ॥

Santt sahaaee jeea ke bhavajal taara(nn)ahaar ||

The Saints are the helpers, the support of the soul; they carry us cross the terrifying world-ocean.

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰ ॥੧॥

सभ ते ऊचे जाणीअहि नानक नाम पिआर ॥१॥

Sabh te uche jaa(nn)eeahi naanak naam piaar ||1||

Know that they are the highest of all; O Nanak, they love the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||


ਜਿਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਸੇਈ ਤਰੇ ਸੇ ਸੂਰੇ ਸੇ ਬੀਰ ॥

जिन जानिआ सेई तरे से सूरे से बीर ॥

Jin jaaniaa seee tare se soore se beer ||

Those who know Him, cross over; they are the brave heroes, the heroic warriors.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਉਤਰੇ ਤੀਰ ॥੨॥

नानक तिन बलिहारणै हरि जपि उतरे तीर ॥२॥

Naanak tin balihaara(nn)ai hari japi utare teer ||2||

Nanak is a sacrifice to those who meditate on the Lord, and cross over to the other shore. ||2||

ਚਰਣ ਬਿਰਾਜਿਤ ਸਭ ਊਪਰੇ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

चरण बिराजित सभ ऊपरे मिटिआ सगल कलेसु जीउ ॥

Chara(nn) biraajit sabh upare mitiaa sagal kalesu jeeu ||

His feet are exalted above all. They eradicate all suffering.

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਆ ਪਰਵੇਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

आवण जावण दुख हरे हरि भगति कीआ परवेसु जीउ ॥

Aava(nn) jaava(nn) dukh hare hari bhagati keeaa paravesu jeeu ||

They destroy the pains of coming and going. They bring loving devotion to the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਾਤੇ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬੀਸਰੈ ॥

हरि रंगि राते सहजि माते तिलु न मन ते बीसरै ॥

Hari ranggi raate sahaji maate tilu na man te beesarai ||

Imbued with the Lord's Love, one is intoxicated with intuitive peace and poise, and does not forget the Lord from his mind, even for an instant.

ਤਜਿ ਆਪੁ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਰੇ ਚਰਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਜਗਦੀਸਰੈ ॥

तजि आपु सरणी परे चरनी सरब गुण जगदीसरै ॥

Taji aapu sara(nn)ee pare charanee sarab gu(nn) jagadeesarai ||

Shedding my self-conceit, I have entered the Sanctuary of His Feet; all virtues rest in the Lord of the Universe.

ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਸ੍ਰੀਰੰਗ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਦਿ ਕਉ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

गोविंद गुण निधि स्रीरंग सुआमी आदि कउ आदेसु जीउ ॥

Govindd gu(nn) nidhi sreerangg suaamee aadi kau aadesu jeeu ||

I bow in humility to the Lord of the Universe, the treasure of virtue, the Lord of excellence, our Primal Lord and Master.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਇਆ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੋ ਇਕ ਵੇਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥੧॥੬॥੮॥

बिनवंति नानक मइआ धारहु जुगु जुगो इक वेसु जीउ ॥८॥१॥६॥८॥

Binavantti naanak maiaa dhaarahu jugu jugo ik vesu jeeu ||8||1||6||8||

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸਿਧ ਸਭਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੋ ॥

सिध सभा करि आसणि बैठे संत सभा जैकारो ॥

Sidh sabhaa kari aasa(nn)i baithe santt sabhaa jaikaaro ||

The Siddhas formed an assembly; sitting in their Yogic postures, they shouted, ""Salute this gathering of Saints.""

ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥

तिसु आगै रहरासि हमारी साचा अपर अपारो ॥

Tisu aagai raharaasi hamaaree saachaa apar apaaro ||

I offer my salutation to the One who is true, infinite and incomparably beautiful.

ਮਸਤਕੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਧਰੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਦੇਉ ॥

मसतकु काटि धरी तिसु आगै तनु मनु आगै देउ ॥

Masataku kaati dharee tisu aagai tanu manu aagai deu ||

I cut off my head, and offer it to Him; I dedicate my body and mind to Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਉ ॥੧॥

नानक संतु मिलै सचु पाईऐ सहज भाइ जसु लेउ ॥१॥

Naanak santtu milai sachu paaeeai sahaj bhaai jasu leu ||1||

O Nanak, meeting with the Saints, Truth is obtained, and one is spontaneously blessed with distinction. ||1||


ਕਿਆ ਭਵੀਐ ਸਚਿ ਸੂਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

किआ भवीऐ सचि सूचा होइ ॥

Kiaa bhaveeai sachi soochaa hoi ||

What is the use of wandering around? Purity comes only through Truth.

ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

साच सबद बिनु मुकति न कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saach sabad binu mukati na koi ||1|| rahaau ||

Without the True Word of the Shabad, no one finds liberation. ||1|| Pause ||


ਕਵਨ ਤੁਮੇ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਉ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਕਉਨੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਸੁਆਓ ॥

कवन तुमे किआ नाउ तुमारा कउनु मारगु कउनु सुआओ ॥

Kavan tume kiaa naau tumaaraa kaunu maaragu kaunu suaao ||

"Who are you? What is your name? What is your way? What is your goal?

ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹਉ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਹਉ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਓ ॥

साचु कहउ अरदासि हमारी हउ संत जना बलि जाओ ॥

Saachu kahau aradaasi hamaaree hau santt janaa bali jaao ||

We pray that you will answer us truthfully; we are a sacrifice to the humble Saints.

ਕਹ ਬੈਸਹੁ ਕਹ ਰਹੀਐ ਬਾਲੇ ਕਹ ਆਵਹੁ ਕਹ ਜਾਹੋ ॥

कह बैसहु कह रहीऐ बाले कह आवहु कह जाहो ॥

Kah baisahu kah raheeai baale kah aavahu kah jaaho ||

Where is your seat? Where do you live, boy? Where did you come from, and where are you going?

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਿਆ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਰਾਹੋ ॥੨॥

नानकु बोलै सुणि बैरागी किआ तुमारा राहो ॥२॥

Naanaku bolai su(nn)i bairaagee kiaa tumaaraa raaho ||2||

Tell us, Nanak - the detached Siddhas wait to hear your reply. What is your path?"" ||2||


ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥

घटि घटि बैसि निरंतरि रहीऐ चालहि सतिगुर भाए ॥

Ghati ghati baisi niranttari raheeai chaalahi satigur bhaae ||

He dwells deep within the nucleus of each and every heart. This is my seat and my home. I walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.

ਸਹਜੇ ਆਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਿਧਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਰਜਾਏ ॥

सहजे आए हुकमि सिधाए नानक सदा रजाए ॥

Sahaje aae hukami sidhaae naanak sadaa rajaae ||

I came from the Celestial Lord God; I go wherever He orders me to go. I am Nanak, forever under the Command of His Will.

ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਸਣਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥

आसणि बैसणि थिरु नाराइणु ऐसी गुरमति पाए ॥

Aasa(nn)i baisa(nn)i thiru naaraai(nn)u aisee guramati paae ||

I sit in the posture of the eternal, imperishable Lord. These are the Teachings I have received from the Guru.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥

गुरमुखि बूझै आपु पछाणै सचे सचि समाए ॥३॥

Guramukhi boojhai aapu pachhaa(nn)ai sache sachi samaae ||3||

As Gurmukh, I have come to understand and realize myself; I merge in the Truest of the True. ||3||


ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਰੋ ॥

दुनीआ सागरु दुतरु कहीऐ किउ करि पाईऐ पारो ॥

Duneeaa saagaru dutaru kaheeai kiu kari paaeeai paaro ||

"The world-ocean is treacherous and impassable; how can one cross over?

ਚਰਪਟੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਅਉਧੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥

चरपटु बोलै अउधू नानक देहु सचा बीचारो ॥

Charapatu bolai audhoo naanak dehu sachaa beechaaro ||

O Nanak, think it over, and give us your true reply." Charpat the Yogi asks.

ਆਪੇ ਆਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਸਮਝੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਉਤਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥

आपे आखै आपे समझै तिसु किआ उतरु दीजै ॥

Aape aakhai aape samajhai tisu kiaa utaru deejai ||

What answer can I give to someone, who claims to understand himself?

ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮੀ ਤੁਝੁ ਕਿਆ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥

साचु कहहु तुम पारगरामी तुझु किआ बैसणु दीजै ॥४॥

Saachu kahahu tum paaragaraamee tujhu kiaa baisa(nn)u deejai ||4||

I speak the Truth; if you have already crossed over, how can I argue with you? ||4||


ਜੈਸੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਮੁਰਗਾਈ ਨੈ ਸਾਣੇ ॥

जैसे जल महि कमलु निरालमु मुरगाई नै साणे ॥

Jaise jal mahi kamalu niraalamu muragaaee nai saa(nn)e ||

The lotus flower floats untouched upon the surface of the water, and the duck swims through the stream;

ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥

सुरति सबदि भव सागरु तरीऐ नानक नामु वखाणे ॥

Surati sabadi bhav saagaru tareeai naanak naamu vakhaa(nn)e ||

With one's consciousness focused on the Word of the Shabad, one crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. O Nanak, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਰਹਹਿ ਇਕਾਂਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਆਸਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸੋ ॥

रहहि इकांति एको मनि वसिआ आसा माहि निरासो ॥

Rahahi ikaanti eko mani vasiaa aasaa maahi niraaso ||

One who lives alone, as a hermit, enshrining the One Lord in his mind, remaining unaffected by hope in the midst of hope,

ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੋ ॥੫॥

अगमु अगोचरु देखि दिखाए नानकु ता का दासो ॥५॥

Agamu agocharu dekhi dikhaae naanaku taa kaa daaso ||5||

Sees and inspires others to see the inaccessible, unfathomable Lord. Nanak is his slave. ||5||


ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਪੂਛਉ ਸਾਚੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥

सुणि सुआमी अरदासि हमारी पूछउ साचु बीचारो ॥

Su(nn)i suaamee aradaasi hamaaree poochhau saachu beechaaro ||

"Listen, Lord, to our prayer. We seek your true opinion.

ਰੋਸੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਉਤਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੋ ॥

रोसु न कीजै उतरु दीजै किउ पाईऐ गुर दुआरो ॥

Rosu na keejai utaru deejai kiu paaeeai gur duaaro ||

Don't be angry with us - please tell us: How can we find the Guru's Door?"

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਚਲਤਉ ਸਚ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਸੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੋ ॥

इहु मनु चलतउ सच घरि बैसै नानक नामु अधारो ॥

Ihu manu chalatau sach ghari baisai naanak naamu adhaaro ||

This fickle mind sits in its true home, O Nanak, through the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥੬॥

आपे मेलि मिलाए करता लागै साचि पिआरो ॥६॥

Aape meli milaae karataa laagai saachi piaaro ||6||

The Creator Himself unites us in Union, and inspires us to love the Truth. ||6||


ਹਾਟੀ ਬਾਟੀ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੇ ਰੂਖਿ ਬਿਰਖਿ ਉਦਿਆਨੇ ॥

हाटी बाटी रहहि निराले रूखि बिरखि उदिआने ॥

Haatee baatee rahahi niraale rookhi birakhi udiaane ||

"Away from stores and highways, we live in the woods, among plants and trees.

ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲੁ ਅਹਾਰੋ ਖਾਈਐ ਅਉਧੂ ਬੋਲੈ ਗਿਆਨੇ ॥

कंद मूलु अहारो खाईऐ अउधू बोलै गिआने ॥

Kandd moolu ahaaro khaaeeai audhoo bolai giaane ||

For food, we take fruits and roots. This is the spiritual wisdom spoken by the renunciates.

ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਈਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕਾਈ ॥

तीरथि नाईऐ सुखु फलु पाईऐ मैलु न लागै काई ॥

Teerathi naaeeai sukhu phalu paaeeai mailu na laagai kaaee ||

We bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and obtain the fruits of peace; not even an iota of filth sticks to us.

ਗੋਰਖ ਪੂਤੁ ਲੋਹਾਰੀਪਾ ਬੋਲੈ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਈ ॥੭॥

गोरख पूतु लोहारीपा बोलै जोग जुगति बिधि साई ॥७॥

Gorakh pootu lohaareepaa bolai jog jugati bidhi saaee ||7||

this is the Way of Yoga." Luhaareepaa, the disciple of Gorakh says. ||7||


ਹਾਟੀ ਬਾਟੀ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪਰ ਘਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਡੋੁਲਾਈ ॥

हाटी बाटी नीद न आवै पर घरि चितु न डोलाई ॥

Haatee baatee need na aavai par ghari chitu na daolaaee ||

In the stores and on the road, do not sleep; do not let your consciousness covet anyone else's home.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਟੇਕ ਨ ਟਿਕਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

बिनु नावै मनु टेक न टिकई नानक भूख न जाई ॥

Binu naavai manu tek na tikaee naanak bhookh na jaaee ||

Without the Name, the mind has no firm support; O Nanak, this hunger never departs.

ਹਾਟੁ ਪਟਣੁ ਘਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੋ ॥

हाटु पटणु घरु गुरू दिखाइआ सहजे सचु वापारो ॥

Haatu pata(nn)u gharu guroo dikhaaiaa sahaje sachu vaapaaro ||

The Guru has revealed the stores and the city within the home of my own heart, where I intuitively carry on the true trade.

ਖੰਡਿਤ ਨਿਦ੍ਰਾ ਅਲਪ ਅਹਾਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੮॥

खंडित निद्रा अलप अहारं नानक ततु बीचारो ॥८॥

Khanddit nidraa alap ahaarann naanak tatu beechaaro ||8||

Sleep little, and eat little; O Nanak, this is the essence of wisdom. ||8||


ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹੁ ਜੋਗਿੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਝੋਲੀ ਖਿੰਥਾ ॥

दरसनु भेख करहु जोगिंद्रा मुंद्रा झोली खिंथा ॥

Darasanu bhekh karahu joginddraa munddraa jholee khintthaa ||

"Wear the robes of the sect of Yogis who follow Gorakh; put on the ear-rings, begging wallet and patched coat.

ਬਾਰਹ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਇਕ ਪੰਥਾ ॥

बारह अंतरि एकु सरेवहु खटु दरसन इक पंथा ॥

Baarah anttari eku sarevahu khatu darasan ik pantthaa ||

Among the twelve schools of Yoga, ours is the highest; among the six schools of philosophy, ours is the best path.

ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਚੋਟ ਨ ਖਾਈਐ ॥

इन बिधि मनु समझाईऐ पुरखा बाहुड़ि चोट न खाईऐ ॥

In bidhi manu samajhaaeeai purakhaa baahu(rr)i chot na khaaeeai ||

This is the way to instruct the mind, so you will never suffer beatings again.""

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਇਵ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੯॥

नानकु बोलै गुरमुखि बूझै जोग जुगति इव पाईऐ ॥९॥

Naanaku bolai guramukhi boojhai jog jugati iv paaeeai ||9||

Nanak speaks: the Gurmukh understands; this is the way that Yoga is attained. ||9||


ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੀ ॥

अंतरि सबदु निरंतरि मुद्रा हउमै ममता दूरि करी ॥

Anttari sabadu niranttari mudraa haumai mamataa doori karee ||

Let constant absorption in the Word of the Shabad deep within be your ear-rings; eradicate egotism and attachment.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁ ਸਮਝ ਪਰੀ ॥

कामु क्रोधु अहंकारु निवारै गुर कै सबदि सु समझ परी ॥

Kaamu krodhu ahankkaaru nivaarai gur kai sabadi su samajh paree ||

Discard sexual desire, anger and egotism, and through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, attain true understanding.

ਖਿੰਥਾ ਝੋਲੀ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੈ ਏਕੁ ਹਰੀ ॥

खिंथा झोली भरिपुरि रहिआ नानक तारै एकु हरी ॥

Khintthaa jholee bharipuri rahiaa naanak taarai eku haree ||

For your patched coat and begging bowl, see the Lord God pervading and permeating everywhere; O Nanak, the One Lord will carry you across.

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ਪਰਖੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਖਰੀ ॥੧੦॥

साचा साहिबु साची नाई परखै गुर की बात खरी ॥१०॥

Saachaa saahibu saachee naaee parakhai gur kee baat kharee ||10||

True is our Lord and Master, and True is His Name. Analyze it, and you shall find the Word of the Guru to be True. ||10||


ਊਂਧਉ ਖਪਰੁ ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਟੋਪੀ ॥

ऊंधउ खपरु पंच भू टोपी ॥

Undhau khaparu pancch bhoo topee ||

Let your mind turn away in detachment from the world, and let this be your begging bowl. Let the lessons of the five elements be your cap.

ਕਾਂਇਆ ਕੜਾਸਣੁ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗੋਟੀ ॥

कांइआ कड़ासणु मनु जागोटी ॥

Kaaniaa ka(rr)aasa(nn)u manu jaagotee ||

Let the body be your meditation mat, and the mind your loin cloth.

ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

सतु संतोखु संजमु है नालि ॥

Satu santtokhu sanjjamu hai naali ||

Let truth, contentment and self-discipline be your companions.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧੧॥

नानक गुरमुखि नामु समालि ॥११॥

Naanak guramukhi naamu samaali ||11||

O Nanak, the Gurmukh dwells on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||11||


ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥

कवनु सु गुपता कवनु सु मुकता ॥

Kavanu su gupataa kavanu su mukataa ||

"Who is hidden? Who is liberated?

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥

कवनु सु अंतरि बाहरि जुगता ॥

Kavanu su anttari baahari jugataa ||

Who is united, inwardly and outwardly?

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਆਵੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

कवनु सु आवै कवनु सु जाइ ॥

Kavanu su aavai kavanu su jaai ||

Who comes, and who goes?

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੨॥

कवनु सु त्रिभवणि रहिआ समाइ ॥१२॥

Kavanu su tribhava(nn)i rahiaa samaai ||12||

Who is permeating and pervading the three worlds?"" ||12||


ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥

घटि घटि गुपता गुरमुखि मुकता ॥

Ghati ghati gupataa guramukhi mukataa ||

He is hidden within each and every heart. The Gurmukh is liberated.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥

अंतरि बाहरि सबदि सु जुगता ॥

Anttari baahari sabadi su jugataa ||

Through the Word of the Shabad, one is united, inwardly and outwardly.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

मनमुखि बिनसै आवै जाइ ॥

Manamukhi binasai aavai jaai ||

The self-willed manmukh perishes, and comes and goes.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੩॥

नानक गुरमुखि साचि समाइ ॥१३॥

Naanak guramukhi saachi samaai ||13||

O Nanak, the Gurmukh merges in Truth. ||13||


ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਖਾਧਾ ॥

किउ करि बाधा सरपनि खाधा ॥

Kiu kari baadhaa sarapani khaadhaa ||

"How is one placed in bondage, and consumed by the serpent of Maya?

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਖੋਇਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਲਾਧਾ ॥

किउ करि खोइआ किउ करि लाधा ॥

Kiu kari khoiaa kiu kari laadhaa ||

How does one lose, and how does one gain?

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥

किउ करि निरमलु किउ करि अंधिआरा ॥

Kiu kari niramalu kiu kari anddhiaaraa ||

How does one become immaculate and pure? How is the darkness of ignorance removed?

ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧੪॥

इहु ततु बीचारै सु गुरू हमारा ॥१४॥

Ihu tatu beechaarai su guroo hamaaraa ||14||

One who understands this essence of reality is our Guru."" ||14||


ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਖਾਧਾ ॥

दुरमति बाधा सरपनि खाधा ॥

Duramati baadhaa sarapani khaadhaa ||

Man is bound by evil-mindedness, and consumed by Maya, the serpent.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਧਾ ॥

मनमुखि खोइआ गुरमुखि लाधा ॥

Manamukhi khoiaa guramukhi laadhaa ||

The self-willed manmukh loses, and the Gurmukh gains.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

सतिगुरु मिलै अंधेरा जाइ ॥

Satiguru milai anddheraa jaai ||

Meeting the True Guru, darkness is dispelled.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੫॥

नानक हउमै मेटि समाइ ॥१५॥

Naanak haumai meti samaai ||15||

O Nanak, eradicating egotism, one merges in the Lord. ||15||


ਸੁੰਨ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਬੰਧੁ ॥

सुंन निरंतरि दीजै बंधु ॥

Sunn niranttari deejai banddhu ||

Focused deep within, in perfect absorption,

ਉਡੈ ਨ ਹੰਸਾ ਪੜੈ ਨ ਕੰਧੁ ॥

उडै न हंसा पड़ै न कंधु ॥

Udai na hanssaa pa(rr)ai na kanddhu ||

The soul-swan does not fly away, and the body-wall does not collapse.

ਸਹਜ ਗੁਫਾ ਘਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਾਚਾ ॥

सहज गुफा घरु जाणै साचा ॥

Sahaj guphaa gharu jaa(nn)ai saachaa ||

Then, one knows that his true home is in the cave of intuitive poise.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਾ ॥੧੬॥

नानक साचे भावै साचा ॥१६॥

Naanak saache bhaavai saachaa ||16||

O Nanak, the True Lord loves those who are truthful. ||16||


ਕਿਸੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਤਜਿਓ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥

किसु कारणि ग्रिहु तजिओ उदासी ॥

Kisu kaara(nn)i grihu tajio udaasee ||

"Why have you left your house and become a wandering Udaasee?

ਕਿਸੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਭੇਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥

किसु कारणि इहु भेखु निवासी ॥

Kisu kaara(nn)i ihu bhekhu nivaasee ||

Why have you adopted these religious robes?

ਕਿਸੁ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥

किसु वखर के तुम वणजारे ॥

Kisu vakhar ke tum va(nn)ajaare ||

What merchandise do you trade?

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਥੁ ਲੰਘਾਵਹੁ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੧੭॥

किउ करि साथु लंघावहु पारे ॥१७॥

Kiu kari saathu langghaavahu paare ||17||

How will you carry others across with you?"" ||17||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥

गुरमुखि खोजत भए उदासी ॥

Guramukhi khojat bhae udaasee ||

I became a wandering Udaasee, searching for the Gurmukhs.

ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਭੇਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥

दरसन कै ताई भेख निवासी ॥

Darasan kai taaee bhekh nivaasee ||

I have adopted these robes seeking the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.

ਸਾਚ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਹਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥

साच वखर के हम वणजारे ॥

Saach vakhar ke ham va(nn)ajaare ||

I trade in the merchandise of Truth.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੧੮॥

नानक गुरमुखि उतरसि पारे ॥१८॥

Naanak guramukhi utarasi paare ||18||

O Nanak, as Gurmukh, I carry others across. ||18||


ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਟਾਇਆ ॥

कितु बिधि पुरखा जनमु वटाइआ ॥

Kitu bidhi purakhaa janamu vataaiaa ||

"How have you changed the course of your life?

ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

काहे कउ तुझु इहु मनु लाइआ ॥

Kaahe kau tujhu ihu manu laaiaa ||

With what have you linked your mind?

ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਖਾਈ ॥

कितु बिधि आसा मनसा खाई ॥

Kitu bidhi aasaa manasaa khaaee ||

How have you subdued your hopes and desires?

ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

कितु बिधि जोति निरंतरि पाई ॥

Kitu bidhi joti niranttari paaee ||

How have you found the Light deep within your nucleus?

ਬਿਨੁ ਦੰਤਾ ਕਿਉ ਖਾਈਐ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

बिनु दंता किउ खाईऐ सारु ॥

Binu danttaa kiu khaaeeai saaru ||

Without teeth, how can you eat iron?

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੧੯॥

नानक साचा करहु बीचारु ॥१९॥

Naanak saachaa karahu beechaaru ||19||

Give us your true opinion, Nanak."" ||19||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਜਨਮੇ ਗਵਨੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥

सतिगुर कै जनमे गवनु मिटाइआ ॥

Satigur kai janame gavanu mitaaiaa ||

Born into the House of the True Guru, my wandering in reincarnation ended.

ਅਨਹਤਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

अनहति राते इहु मनु लाइआ ॥

Anahati raate ihu manu laaiaa ||

My mind is attached and attuned to the unstruck sound current.

ਮਨਸਾ ਆਸਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਈ ॥

मनसा आसा सबदि जलाई ॥

Manasaa aasaa sabadi jalaaee ||

Through the Word of the Shabad, my hopes and desires have been burnt away.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

गुरमुखि जोति निरंतरि पाई ॥

Guramukhi joti niranttari paaee ||

As Gurmukh, I found the Light deep within the nucleus of my self.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਟੇ ਖਾਈਐ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

त्रै गुण मेटे खाईऐ सारु ॥

Trai gu(nn) mete khaaeeai saaru ||

Eradicating the three qualities, one eats iron.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨੦॥

नानक तारे तारणहारु ॥२०॥

Naanak taare taara(nn)ahaaru ||20||

O Nanak, the Emancipator emancipates. ||20||

आदि कउ कवनु बीचारु कथीअले सुंन कहा घर वासो ॥

Aadi kau kavanu beechaaru katheeale sunn kahaa ghar vaaso ||
