Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਤਿਥੈ ਲੋਇ ॥

तेरा नामु रतनु करमु चानणु सुरति तिथै लोइ ॥

Teraa naamu ratanu karamu chaana(nn)u surati tithai loi ||

Your Name is the Jewel, and Your Grace is the Light. In awareness, there is Your Light.

ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਅੰਧੀ ਵਾਪਰੈ ਸਗਲ ਲੀਜੈ ਖੋਇ ॥੧॥

अंधेरु अंधी वापरै सगल लीजै खोइ ॥१॥

Anddheru anddhee vaaparai sagal leejai khoi ||1||

Darkness fills the dark, and then everything is lost. ||1||

ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ॥

इहु संसारु सगल बिकारु ॥

Ihu sanssaaru sagal bikaaru ||

This whole world is corrupt.

ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਸਤਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तेरा नामु दारू अवरु नासति करणहारु अपारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Teraa naamu daaroo avaru naasati kara(nn)ahaaru apaaru ||1|| rahaau ||

Your Name is the only cure; nothing else works, O Infinite Creator Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਪਾਤਾਲ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਏਕ ਭਾਰ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋੜਿ ॥

पाताल पुरीआ एक भार होवहि लाख करोड़ि ॥

Paataal pureeaa ek bhaar hovahi laakh karo(rr)i ||

One side of the scale holds tens of thousands, millions of nether regions and realms.

ਤੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਤਾ ਪਵੈ ਜਾਂ ਸਿਰੈ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਹੋਰਿ ॥੨॥

तेरे लाल कीमति ता पवै जां सिरै होवहि होरि ॥२॥

Tere laal keemati taa pavai jaan sirai hovahi hori ||2||

O my Beloved, Your Worth could only be estimated if something else could be placed on the other side of the scale. ||2||

ਦੂਖਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਊਪਜਹਿ ਸੂਖੀ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥

दूखा ते सुख ऊपजहि सूखी होवहि दूख ॥

Dookhaa te sukh upajahi sookhee hovahi dookh ||

Out of pain, pleasure is produced, and out of pleasure comes pain.

ਜਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਤੂ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਅਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਕੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ॥੩॥

जितु मुखि तू सालाहीअहि तितु मुखि कैसी भूख ॥३॥

Jitu mukhi too saalaaheeahi titu mukhi kaisee bhookh ||3||

That mouth which praises You - what hunger could that mouth ever suffer? ||3||

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਅਵਰੁ ਭਲਾ ਸੈਸਾਰੁ ॥

नानक मूरखु एकु तू अवरु भला सैसारु ॥

Naanak moorakhu eku too avaru bhalaa saisaaru ||

O Nanak, you alone are foolish; all the rest of the world is good.

ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੪॥੨॥

जितु तनि नामु न ऊपजै से तन होहि खुआर ॥४॥२॥

Jitu tani naamu na upajai se tan hohi khuaar ||4||2||

That body in which the Naam does not well up - that body becomes miserable. ||4||2||

ਜੈ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਉਚਰੇ ਸੰਕਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

जै कारणि बेद ब्रहमै उचरे संकरि छोडी माइआ ॥

Jai kaara(nn)i bed brhamai uchare sankkari chhodee maaiaa ||

For His sake, Brahma uttered the Vedas, and Shiva renounced Maya.

ਜੈ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਿਧ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

जै कारणि सिध भए उदासी देवी मरमु न पाइआ ॥१॥

Jai kaara(nn)i sidh bhae udaasee devee maramu na paaiaa ||1||

For His sake, the Siddhas became hermits and renunciates; even the gods have not realized His Mystery. ||1||

ਬਾਬਾ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਤਰੀਐ ਸਾਚਾ ਹੋਈ ॥

बाबा मनि साचा मुखि साचा कहीऐ तरीऐ साचा होई ॥

Baabaa mani saachaa mukhi saachaa kaheeai tareeai saachaa hoee ||

O Baba, keep the True Lord in your mind, and utter the Name of the True Lord with your mouth; the True Lord will carry you across.

ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨੇੜੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

दुसमनु दूखु न आवै नेड़ै हरि मति पावै कोई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Dusamanu dookhu na aavai ne(rr)ai hari mati paavai koee ||1|| rahaau ||

Enemies and pain shall not even approach you; only a rare few realize the Wisdom of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਅਗਨਿ ਬਿੰਬ ਪਵਣੈ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੀਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥

अगनि बि्मब पवणै की बाणी तीनि नाम के दासा ॥

Agani bimbb pava(nn)ai kee baa(nn)ee teeni naam ke daasaa ||

Fire, water and air make up the world; these three are the slaves of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਤੇ ਤਸਕਰ ਜੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲੇਵਹਿ ਵਾਸਹਿ ਕੋਟ ਪੰਚਾਸਾ ॥੨॥

ते तसकर जो नामु न लेवहि वासहि कोट पंचासा ॥२॥

Te tasakar jo naamu na levahi vaasahi kot pancchaasaa ||2||

One who does not chant the Naam is a thief, dwelling in the fortress of the five thieves. ||2||

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਏਕ ਕਰੈ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਫਾਵੈ ॥

जे को एक करै चंगिआई मनि चिति बहुतु बफावै ॥

Je ko ek karai changgiaaee mani chiti bahutu baphaavai ||

If someone does a good deed for someone else, he totally puffs himself up in his conscious mind.

ਏਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਏਤੀਆ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

एते गुण एतीआ चंगिआईआ देइ न पछोतावै ॥३॥

Ete gu(nn) eteeaa changgiaaeeaa dei na pachhotaavai ||3||

The Lord bestows so many virtues and so much goodness; He does not ever regret it. ||3||

ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਨਿ ਤਿਨ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

तुधु सालाहनि तिन धनु पलै नानक का धनु सोई ॥

Tudhu saalaahani tin dhanu palai naanak kaa dhanu soee ||

Those who praise You gather the wealth in their laps; this is Nanak's wealth.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਜੀਉ ਕਹੈ ਓਨਾ ਕਉ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤਲਬ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੩॥

जे को जीउ कहै ओना कउ जम की तलब न होई ॥४॥३॥

Je ko jeeu kahai onaa kau jam kee talab na hoee ||4||3||

Whoever shows respect to them is not summoned by the Messenger of Death. ||4||3||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੁਖੁ ਮਾਸਾ ॥

जा कै रूपु नाही जाति नाही नाही मुखु मासा ॥

Jaa kai roopu naahee jaati naahee naahee mukhu maasaa ||

One who has no beauty, no social status, no mouth, no flesh

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥

सतिगुरि मिले निरंजनु पाइआ तेरै नामि है निवासा ॥१॥

Satiguri mile niranjjanu paaiaa terai naami hai nivaasaa ||1||

- meeting with the True Guru, he finds the Immaculate Lord, and dwells in Your Name. ||1||

ਅਉਧੂ ਸਹਜੇ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

अउधू सहजे ततु बीचारि ॥

Audhoo sahaje tatu beechaari ||

O detached Yogi, contemplate the essence of reality,

ਜਾ ਤੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਹੁ ਸੈਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जा ते फिरि न आवहु सैसारि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jaa te phiri na aavahu saisaari ||1|| rahaau ||

And you shall never again come to be born into the world. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕਰਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਧਰਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਚਿ ਮਾਲਾ ॥

जा कै करमु नाही धरमु नाही नाही सुचि माला ॥

Jaa kai karamu naahee dharamu naahee naahee suchi maalaa ||

One who does not have good karma or Dharmic faith, sacred rosary or mala

ਸਿਵ ਜੋਤਿ ਕੰਨਹੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥੨॥

सिव जोति कंनहु बुधि पाई सतिगुरू रखवाला ॥२॥

Siv joti kannahu budhi paaee satiguroo rakhavaalaa ||2||

- through the Light of God, wisdom is bestowed; the True Guru is our Protector. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਬਰਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨੇਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਕਬਾਈ ॥

जा कै बरतु नाही नेमु नाही नाही बकबाई ॥

Jaa kai baratu naahee nemu naahee naahee bakabaaee ||

One who does not observe any fasts, make religious vows or chant

ਗਤਿ ਅਵਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥੩॥

गति अवगति की चिंत नाही सतिगुरू फुरमाई ॥३॥

Gati avagati kee chintt naahee satiguroo phuramaaee ||3||

- he does not have to worry about good luck or bad, if he obeys the Command of the True Guru. ||3||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਆਸ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਝਾਈ ॥

जा कै आस नाही निरास नाही चिति सुरति समझाई ॥

Jaa kai aas naahee niraas naahee chiti surati samajhaaee ||

One who is not hopeful, nor hopeless, who has trained his intuitive consciousness

ਤੰਤ ਕਉ ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥

तंत कउ परम तंतु मिलिआ नानका बुधि पाई ॥४॥४॥

Tantt kau param tanttu miliaa naanakaa budhi paaee ||4||4||

- his being blends with the Supreme Being. O Nanak, his awareness is awakened. ||4||4||

ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

ता का कहिआ दरि परवाणु ॥

Taa kaa kahiaa dari paravaa(nn)u ||

What he says is approved in the Court of the Lord.

ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥

बिखु अम्रितु दुइ सम करि जाणु ॥१॥

Bikhu ammmritu dui sam kari jaa(nn)u ||1||

He looks upon poison and nectar as one and the same. ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਰਬੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

किआ कहीऐ सरबे रहिआ समाइ ॥

Kiaa kaheeai sarabe rahiaa samaai ||

What can I say? You are permeating and pervading all.

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जो किछु वरतै सभ तेरी रजाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jo kichhu varatai sabh teree rajaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Whatever happens, is all by Your Will. ||1|| Pause ||

ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਚੂਕਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

प्रगटी जोति चूका अभिमानु ॥

Prgatee joti chookaa abhimaanu ||

The Divine Light shines radiantly, and egotistical pride is dispelled.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥

सतिगुरि दीआ अम्रित नामु ॥२॥

Satiguri deeaa ammmrit naamu ||2||

The True Guru bestows the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥

कलि महि आइआ सो जनु जाणु ॥

Kali mahi aaiaa so janu jaa(nn)u ||

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, one's birth is approved,

ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਣੁ ॥੩॥

साची दरगह पावै माणु ॥३॥

Saachee daragah paavai maa(nn)u ||3||

If one is honored in the True Court. ||3||

ਕਹਣਾ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਅਕਥ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

कहणा सुनणा अकथ घरि जाइ ॥

Kaha(nn)aa suna(nn)aa akath ghari jaai ||

Speaking and listening, one goes to the Celestial Home of the Indescribable Lord.

ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੫॥

कथनी बदनी नानक जलि जाइ ॥४॥५॥

Kathanee badanee naanak jali jaai ||4||5||

Mere words of mouth, O Nanak, are burnt away. ||4||5||

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਮਨ ਮਜਨੁ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੰਗਿ ਗਹੇ ॥

अम्रितु नीरु गिआनि मन मजनु अठसठि तीरथ संगि गहे ॥

Ammmritu neeru giaani man majanu athasathi teerath sanggi gahe ||

One who bathes in the Ambrosial Water of spiritual wisdom takes with him the virtues of the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਕ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਿਖੁ ਸੋੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥

गुर उपदेसि जवाहर माणक सेवे सिखु सो खोजि लहै ॥१॥

Gur upadesi javaahar maa(nn)ak seve sikhu sao khoji lahai ||1||

The Guru's Teachings are the gems and jewels; the Sikh who serves Him searches and finds them. ||1||

ਗੁਰ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

गुर समानि तीरथु नही कोइ ॥

Gur samaani teerathu nahee koi ||

There is no sacred shrine equal to the Guru.

ਸਰੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सरु संतोखु तासु गुरु होइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saru santtokhu taasu guru hoi ||1|| rahaau ||

The Guru encompasses the ocean of contentment. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗੁਰੁ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਸਦਾ ਜਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਹਰੈ ॥

गुरु दरीआउ सदा जलु निरमलु मिलिआ दुरमति मैलु हरै ॥

Guru dareeaau sadaa jalu niramalu miliaa duramati mailu harai ||

The Guru is the River, from which the Pure Water is obtained forever; it washes away the filth and pollution of evil-mindedness.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਇਐ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤਹੁ ਦੇਵ ਕਰੈ ॥੨॥

सतिगुरि पाइऐ पूरा नावणु पसू परेतहु देव करै ॥२॥

Satiguri paaiai pooraa naava(nn)u pasoo paretahu dev karai ||2||

Finding the True Guru, the perfect cleansing bath is obtained, which transforms even beasts and ghosts into gods. ||2||

ਰਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਲ ਹੀਅਲੁ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮਲੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥

रता सचि नामि तल हीअलु सो गुरु परमलु कहीऐ ॥

Rataa sachi naami tal heealu so guru paramalu kaheeai ||

He is said to be the Guru, with the scent of sandalwood, who is imbued with the True Name to the bottom of His Heart.

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਵਾਸੁ ਬਨਾਸਪਤਿ ਸਉਰੈ ਤਾਸੁ ਚਰਣ ਲਿਵ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੩॥

जा की वासु बनासपति सउरै तासु चरण लिव रहीऐ ॥३॥

Jaa kee vaasu banaasapati saurai taasu chara(nn) liv raheeai ||3||

By His Fragrance, the world of vegetation is perfumed. Lovingly focus yourself on His Feet. ||3||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਉਪਜਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਿਵ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥

गुरमुखि जीअ प्रान उपजहि गुरमुखि सिव घरि जाईऐ ॥

Guramukhi jeea praan upajahi guramukhi siv ghari jaaeeai ||

The life of the soul wells up for the Gurmukh; the Gurmukh goes to the House of God.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਜ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੬॥

गुरमुखि नानक सचि समाईऐ गुरमुखि निज पदु पाईऐ ॥४॥६॥

Guramukhi naanak sachi samaaeeai guramukhi nij padu paaeeai ||4||6||

The Gurmukh, O Nanak, merges in the True One; the Gurmukh attains the exalted state of the self. ||4||6||

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

गुर परसादी विदिआ वीचारै पड़ि पड़ि पावै मानु ॥

Gur parasaadee vidiaa veechaarai pa(rr)i pa(rr)i paavai maanu ||

By Guru's Grace, contemplate spiritual knowledge; read it and study it, and you shall be honored.

ਆਪਾ ਮਧੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥

आपा मधे आपु परगासिआ पाइआ अम्रितु नामु ॥१॥

Aapaa madhe aapu paragaasiaa paaiaa ammmritu naamu ||1||

Within the self, the self is revealed, when one is blessed with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਜਮਾਨੁ ॥

करता तू मेरा जजमानु ॥

Karataa too meraa jajamaanu ||

O Creator Lord, You alone are my Benefactor.

ਇਕ ਦਖਿਣਾ ਹਉ ਤੈ ਪਹਿ ਮਾਗਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

इक दखिणा हउ तै पहि मागउ देहि आपणा नामु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ik dakhi(nn)aa hau tai pahi maagau dehi aapa(nn)aa naamu ||1|| rahaau ||

I beg for only one blessing from You: please bless me with Your Name. ||1|| Pause ||

ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰ ਧਾਵਤ ਰਾਖੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

पंच तसकर धावत राखे चूका मनि अभिमानु ॥

Pancch tasakar dhaavat raakhe chookaa mani abhimaanu ||

The five wandering thieves are captured and held, and the egotistical pride of the mind is subdued.

ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਭਾਗੀ ਐਸਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥

दिसटि बिकारी दुरमति भागी ऐसा ब्रहम गिआनु ॥२॥

Disati bikaaree duramati bhaagee aisaa brham giaanu ||2||

Visions of corruption, vice and evil-mindedness run away. Such is the spiritual wisdom of God. ||2||

ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਚਾਵਲ ਦਇਆ ਕਣਕ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਪਾਤੀ ਧਾਨੁ ॥

जतु सतु चावल दइआ कणक करि प्रापति पाती धानु ॥

Jatu satu chaaval daiaa ka(nn)ak kari praapati paatee dhaanu ||

Please bless me with the rice of truth and self-restraint, the wheat of compassion, and the leaf-plate of meditation.

ਦੂਧੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਘੀਉ ਕਰਿ ਐਸਾ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੩॥

दूधु करमु संतोखु घीउ करि ऐसा मांगउ दानु ॥३॥

Doodhu karamu santtokhu gheeu kari aisaa maangau daanu ||3||

Bless me with the milk of good karma, and the clarified butter, the ghee, of compassion. Such are the gifts I beg of You, Lord. ||3||

ਖਿਮਾ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਊ ਲਵੇਰੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਬਛਰਾ ਖੀਰੁ ਪੀਐ ॥

खिमा धीरजु करि गऊ लवेरी सहजे बछरा खीरु पीऐ ॥

Khimaa dheeraju kari gau laveree sahaje bachharaa kheeru peeai ||

Let forgiveness and patience be my milk-cows, and let the calf of my mind intuitively drink in this milk.

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਰਮ ਕਾ ਕਪੜਾ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥

सिफति सरम का कपड़ा मांगउ हरि गुण नानक रवतु रहै ॥४॥७॥

Siphati saram kaa kapa(rr)aa maangau hari gu(nn) naanak ravatu rahai ||4||7||

I beg for the clothes of modesty and the Lord's Praise; Nanak chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||7||

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਆਵਤੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਜਾਵਤੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

आवतु किनै न राखिआ जावतु किउ राखिआ जाइ ॥

Aavatu kinai na raakhiaa jaavatu kiu raakhiaa jaai ||

No one can hold anyone back from coming; how could anyone hold anyone back from going?

ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਆ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਂ ਉਸ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

जिस ते होआ सोई परु जाणै जां उस ही माहि समाइ ॥१॥

Jis te hoaa soee paru jaa(nn)ai jaan us hee maahi samaai ||1||

He alone thoroughly understands this, from whom all beings come; all are merged and immersed in Him. ||1||

ਤੂਹੈ ਹੈ ਵਾਹੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥

तूहै है वाहु तेरी रजाइ ॥

Toohai hai vaahu teree rajaai ||

Waaho! - You are Great, and Wondrous is Your Will.

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਹੋਇਬਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जो किछु करहि सोई परु होइबा अवरु न करणा जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jo kichhu karahi soee paru hoibaa avaru na kara(nn)aa jaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Whatever You do, surely comes to pass. Nothing else can happen. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੈਸੇ ਹਰਹਟ ਕੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਟਿੰਡ ਲਗਤ ਹੈ ਇਕ ਸਖਨੀ ਹੋਰ ਫੇਰ ਭਰੀਅਤ ਹੈ ॥

जैसे हरहट की माला टिंड लगत है इक सखनी होर फेर भरीअत है ॥

Jaise harahat kee maalaa tindd lagat hai ik sakhanee hor pher bhareeat hai ||

The buckets on the chain of the Persian wheel rotate; one empties out to fill another.

ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਜਿਉ ਉਸ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥

तैसो ही इहु खेलु खसम का जिउ उस की वडिआई ॥२॥

Taiso hee ihu khelu khasam kaa jiu us kee vadiaaee ||2||

This is just like the Play of our Lord and Master; such is His Glorious Greatness. ||2||

ਸੁਰਤੀ ਕੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਉਲਟੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ॥

सुरती कै मारगि चलि कै उलटी नदरि प्रगासी ॥

Suratee kai maaragi chali kai ulatee nadari prgaasee ||

Following the path of intuitive awareness, one turns away from the world, and one's vision is enlightened.

ਮਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉਨੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਉਨੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥੩॥

मनि वीचारि देखु ब्रहम गिआनी कउनु गिरही कउनु उदासी ॥३॥

Mani veechaari dekhu brham giaanee kaunu girahee kaunu udaasee ||3||

Contemplate this in your mind, and see, O spiritual teacher. Who is the householder, and who is the renunciate? ||3||

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਸਉਪਿ ਕੈ ਏਹੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥

जिस की आसा तिस ही सउपि कै एहु रहिआ निरबाणु ॥

Jis kee aasaa tis hee saupi kai ehu rahiaa nirabaa(nn)u ||

Hope comes from the Lord; surrendering to Him, we remain in the state of nirvaanaa.

ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਆ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੮॥

जिस ते होआ सोई करि मानिआ नानक गिरही उदासी सो परवाणु ॥४॥८॥

Jis te hoaa soee kari maaniaa naanak girahee udaasee so paravaa(nn)u ||4||8||

We come from Him; surrendering to Him, O Nanak, one is approved as a householder, and a renunciate. ||4||8||

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਦਿਸਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਰੀ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਂਧੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

दिसटि बिकारी बंधनि बांधै हउ तिस कै बलि जाई ॥

Disati bikaaree banddhani baandhai hau tis kai bali jaaee ||

I am a sacrifice to that one who binds in bondage his evil and corrupted gaze.

ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

पाप पुंन की सार न जाणै भूला फिरै अजाई ॥१॥

Paap punn kee saar na jaa(nn)ai bhoolaa phirai ajaaee ||1||

One who does not know the difference between vice and virtue wanders around uselessly. ||1||

ਬੋਲਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥

बोलहु सचु नामु करतार ॥

Bolahu sachu naamu karataar ||

Speak the True Name of the Creator Lord.

ਫੁਨਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਣ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

फुनि बहुड़ि न आवण वार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Phuni bahu(rr)i na aava(nn) vaar ||1|| rahaau ||

Then, you shall never again have to come into this world. ||1|| Pause ||

ਊਚਾ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੈ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥

ऊचा ते फुनि नीचु करतु है नीच करै सुलतानु ॥

Uchaa te phuni neechu karatu hai neech karai sulataanu ||

The Creator transforms the high into the low, and makes the lowly into kings.

ਜਿਨੀ ਜਾਣੁ ਸੁਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਗਿ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੨॥

जिनी जाणु सुजाणिआ जगि ते पूरे परवाणु ॥२॥

Jinee jaa(nn)u sujaa(nn)iaa jagi te poore paravaa(nn)u ||2||

Those who know the All-knowing Lord are approved and certified as perfect in this world. ||2||

ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵਣ ਜਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਭੂਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥

ता कउ समझावण जाईऐ जे को भूला होई ॥

Taa kau samajhaava(nn) jaaeeai je ko bhoolaa hoee ||

If anyone is mistaken and fooled, you should go to instruct him.

ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭ ਕਰਤਾ ਐਸਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥

आपे खेल करे सभ करता ऐसा बूझै कोई ॥३॥

Aape khel kare sabh karataa aisaa boojhai koee ||3||

The Creator Himself plays all the games; only a few understand this. ||3||

ਨਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਦੁਨੀ ਪਰੀਤਾ ॥

नाउ प्रभातै सबदि धिआईऐ छोडहु दुनी परीता ॥

Naau prbhaatai sabadi dhiaaeeai chhodahu dunee pareetaa ||

Meditate on the Name, and the Word of the Shabad, in the early hours before dawn; leave your worldly entanglements behind.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਜਗਿ ਹਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਜੀਤਾ ॥੪॥੯॥

प्रणवति नानक दासनि दासा जगि हारिआ तिनि जीता ॥४॥९॥

Pr(nn)avati naanak daasani daasaa jagi haariaa tini jeetaa ||4||9||

Prays Nanak, the slave of God's slaves: the world loses, and he wins. ||4||9||

ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ॥

मनु माइआ मनु धाइआ मनु पंखी आकासि ॥

Manu maaiaa manu dhaaiaa manu pankkhee aakaasi ||

The mind is Maya, the mind is a chaser; the mind is a bird flying across the sky.

ਤਸਕਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਵੁਠਾ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

तसकर सबदि निवारिआ नगरु वुठा साबासि ॥

Tasakar sabadi nivaariaa nagaru vuthaa saabaasi ||

The thieves are overpowered by the Shabad, and then the body-village prospers and celebrates.

ਜਾ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥

जा तू राखहि राखि लैहि साबतु होवै रासि ॥१॥

Jaa too raakhahi raakhi laihi saabatu hovai raasi ||1||

Lord, when You save someone, he is saved; his capital is safe and sound. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੈ ॥

ऐसा नामु रतनु निधि मेरै ॥

Aisaa naamu ratanu nidhi merai ||

Such is my Treasure, the Jewel of the Naam;

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਲਗਉ ਪਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमति देहि लगउ पगि तेरै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramati dehi lagau pagi terai ||1|| rahaau ||

Please bless me with the Guru's Teachings, so that I may fall at Your Feet. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਨੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਭੋਗੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥

मनु जोगी मनु भोगीआ मनु मूरखु गावारु ॥

Manu jogee manu bhogeeaa manu moorakhu gaavaaru ||

The mind is a Yogi, the mind is a pleasure-seeker; the mind is foolish and ignorant.

ਮਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੰਗਤਾ ਮਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥

मनु दाता मनु मंगता मन सिरि गुरु करतारु ॥

Manu daataa manu manggataa man siri guru karataaru ||

The mind is the giver, the mind is the beggar; the mind is the Great Guru, the Creator.

ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਐਸਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

पंच मारि सुखु पाइआ ऐसा ब्रहमु वीचारु ॥२॥

Pancch maari sukhu paaiaa aisaa brhamu veechaaru ||2||

The five thieves are conquered, and peace is attained; such is the contemplative wisdom of God. ||2||

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਏਕੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਕਹਉ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

घटि घटि एकु वखाणीऐ कहउ न देखिआ जाइ ॥

Ghati ghati eku vakhaa(nn)eeai kahau na dekhiaa jaai ||

The One Lord is said to be in each and every heart, but no one can see Him.

ਖੋਟੋ ਪੂਠੋ ਰਾਲੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

खोटो पूठो रालीऐ बिनु नावै पति जाइ ॥

Khoto pootho raaleeai binu naavai pati jaai ||

The false are cast upside-down into the womb of reincarnation; without the Name, they lose their honor.

ਜਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

जा तू मेलहि ता मिलि रहां जां तेरी होइ रजाइ ॥३॥

Jaa too melahi taa mili rahaan jaan teree hoi rajaai ||3||

Those whom You unite, remain united, if it is Your Will. ||3||

ਜਾਤਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਹ ਪੂਛੀਐ ਸਚ ਘਰੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਤਾਇ ॥

जाति जनमु नह पूछीऐ सच घरु लेहु बताइ ॥

Jaati janamu nah poochheeai sach gharu lehu bataai ||

God does not ask about social class or birth; you must find your true home.

ਸਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਸਾ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

सा जाति सा पति है जेहे करम कमाइ ॥

Saa jaati saa pati hai jehe karam kamaai ||

That is your social class and that is your status - the karma of what you have done.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥

जनम मरन दुखु काटीऐ नानक छूटसि नाइ ॥४॥१०॥

Janam maran dukhu kaateeai naanak chhootasi naai ||4||10||

The pains of death and rebirth are eradicated; O Nanak, salvation is in the Lord's Name. ||4||10||

ਜਾਗਤੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮੂਠੋ ਅੰਧਾ ॥

जागतु बिगसै मूठो अंधा ॥

Jaagatu bigasai mootho anddhaa ||

He is awake, and even happy, but he is being plundered - he is blind!

ਗਲਿ ਫਾਹੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਧੰਧਾ ॥

गलि फाही सिरि मारे धंधा ॥

Gali phaahee siri maare dhanddhaa ||

The noose is around his neck, and yet, his head is busy with worldly affairs.

ਆਸਾ ਆਵੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

आसा आवै मनसा जाइ ॥

Aasaa aavai manasaa jaai ||

In hope, he comes and in desire, he leaves.

ਉਰਝੀ ਤਾਣੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਬਸਾਇ ॥੧॥

उरझी ताणी किछु न बसाइ ॥१॥

Urajhee taa(nn)ee kichhu na basaai ||1||

The strings of his life are all tangled up; he is utterly helpless. ||1||

ਜਾਗਸਿ ਜੀਵਣ ਜਾਗਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

जागसि जीवण जागणहारा ॥

Jaagasi jeeva(nn) jaaga(nn)ahaaraa ||

The Lord of Awareness, the Lord of Life is awake and aware.

ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सुख सागर अम्रित भंडारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sukh saagar ammmrit bhanddaaraa ||1|| rahaau ||

He is the Ocean of peace, the Treasure of Ambrosial Nectar. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਭੋਂਡੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ॥

कहिओ न बूझै अंधु न सूझै भोंडी कार कमाई ॥

Kahio na boojhai anddhu na soojhai bhondee kaar kamaaee ||

He does not understand what he is told; he is blind - he does not see, and so he does his evil deeds.

ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰੁ ਕਰਮੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੨॥

आपे प्रीति प्रेम परमेसुरु करमी मिलै वडाई ॥२॥

Aape preeti prem paramesuru karamee milai vadaaee ||2||

The Transcendent Lord Himself showers His Love and Affection; by His Grace, He bestows glorious greatness. ||2||

ਦਿਨੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਆਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਛੀਜੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਘਟਾਈ ॥

दिनु दिनु आवै तिलु तिलु छीजै माइआ मोहु घटाई ॥

Dinu dinu aavai tilu tilu chheejai maaiaa mohu ghataaee ||

With the coming of each and every day, his life is wearing away, bit by bit; but still, his heart is attached to Maya.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਡੋ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਬ ਲਗ ਦੂਜੀ ਰਾਈ ॥੩॥

बिनु गुर बूडो ठउर न पावै जब लग दूजी राई ॥३॥

Binu gur boodo thaur na paavai jab lag doojee raaee ||3||

Without the Guru, he is drowned, and finds no place of rest, as long as he is caught in duality. ||3||

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜੀਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥

अहिनिसि जीआ देखि सम्हालै सुखु दुखु पुरबि कमाई ॥

Ahinisi jeeaa dekhi samhaalai sukhu dukhu purabi kamaaee ||

Day and night, God watches over and takes care of His living beings; they receive pleasure and pain according to their past actions.

ਕਰਮਹੀਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੧॥

करमहीणु सचु भीखिआ मांगै नानक मिलै वडाई ॥४॥११॥

Karamahee(nn)u sachu bheekhiaa maangai naanak milai vadaaee ||4||11||

Nanak, the unfortunate one, begs for the charity of Truth; please bless him with this glory. ||4||11||

Masati karau moorakhu jagi kaheeaa ||

If I remain silent, the world calls me a fool.

ਅਧਿਕ ਬਕਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਲਿਵ ਰਹੀਆ ॥

अधिक बकउ तेरी लिव रहीआ ॥

Adhik bakau teree liv raheeaa ||

If I talk too much, I miss out on Your Love.

ਭੂਲ ਚੂਕ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥

भूल चूक तेरै दरबारि ॥

Bhool chook terai darabaari ||

My mistakes and faults will be judged in Your Court.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਆਚਾਰ ॥੧॥

नाम बिना कैसे आचार ॥१॥

Naam binaa kaise aachaar ||1||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can I maintain good conduct? ||1||

ਐਸੇ ਝੂਠਿ ਮੁਠੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

ऐसे झूठि मुठे संसारा ॥

Aise jhoothi muthe sanssaaraa ||

Such is the falsehood which is plundering the world.

ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਨਿੰਦੈ ਮੁਝੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

निंदकु निंदै मुझै पिआरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ninddaku ninddai mujhai piaaraa ||1|| rahaau ||

The slanderer slanders me, but even so, I love him. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਿਸੁ ਨਿੰਦਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

जिसु निंदहि सोई बिधि जाणै ॥

Jisu ninddahi soee bidhi jaa(nn)ai ||

He alone knows the way, who has been slandered.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥

गुर कै सबदे दरि नीसाणै ॥

Gur kai sabade dari neesaa(nn)ai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is stamped with the Lord's Insignia in His Court.

ਕਾਰਣ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

कारण नामु अंतरगति जाणै ॥

Kaara(nn) naamu anttaragati jaa(nn)ai ||

He realizes the Naam, the Cause of causes, deep within himself.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੨॥

जिस नो नदरि करे सोई बिधि जाणै ॥२॥

Jis no nadari kare soee bidhi jaa(nn)ai ||2||

He alone knows the way, who is blessed by the Lord's Glance of Grace. ||2||

ਮੈ ਮੈਲੌ ਊਜਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

मै मैलौ ऊजलु सचु सोइ ॥

Mai mailau ujalu sachu soi ||

I am filthy and polluted; the True Lord is Immaculate and Sublime.

ਊਤਮੁ ਆਖਿ ਨ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

ऊतमु आखि न ऊचा होइ ॥

Utamu aakhi na uchaa hoi ||

Calling oneself sublime, one does not become exalted.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਖੂਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥

मनमुखु खूल्हि महा बिखु खाइ ॥

Manamukhu khoolhi mahaa bikhu khaai ||

The self-willed manmukh openly eats the great poison.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਰਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥

गुरमुखि होइ सु राचै नाइ ॥३॥

Guramukhi hoi su raachai naai ||3||

But one who becomes Gurmukh is absorbed in the Name. ||3||

ਅੰਧੌ ਬੋਲੌ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥

अंधौ बोलौ मुगधु गवारु ॥

Anddhau bolau mugadhu gavaaru ||

I am blind, deaf, foolish and ignorant,

ਹੀਣੌ ਨੀਚੁ ਬੁਰੌ ਬੁਰਿਆਰੁ ॥

हीणौ नीचु बुरौ बुरिआरु ॥

Hee(nn)au neechu burau buriaaru ||

The lowest of the low, the worst of the worst.

ਨੀਧਨ ਕੌ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

नीधन कौ धनु नामु पिआरु ॥

Needhan kau dhanu naamu piaaru ||

I am poor, but I have the Wealth of Your Name, O my Beloved.

ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੪॥

इहु धनु सारु होरु बिखिआ छारु ॥४॥

Ihu dhanu saaru horu bikhiaa chhaaru ||4||

This is the most excellent wealth; all else is poison and ashes. ||4||

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

उसतति निंदा सबदु वीचारु ॥

Usatati ninddaa sabadu veechaaru ||

I pay no attention to slander and praise; I contemplate the Word of the Shabad.

ਜੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥

जो देवै तिस कउ जैकारु ॥

Jo devai tis kau jaikaaru ||

I celebrate the One who blesses me with His Bounty.

ਤੂ ਬਖਸਹਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

तू बखसहि जाति पति होइ ॥

Too bakhasahi jaati pati hoi ||

Whomever You forgive, O Lord, is blessed with status and honor.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੨॥

नानकु कहै कहावै सोइ ॥५॥१२॥

Naanaku kahai kahaavai soi ||5||12||

Says Nanak, I speak as He causes me to speak. ||5||12||

Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

ਖਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਪੈਧੈ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਹਾਣਿ ॥

खाइआ मैलु वधाइआ पैधै घर की हाणि ॥

Khaaiaa mailu vadhaaiaa paidhai ghar kee haa(nn)i ||

Eating too much one's filth only increases; wearing fancy clothes one's home is disgraced.

ਬਕਿ ਬਕਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਣਿ ॥੧॥

बकि बकि वादु चलाइआ बिनु नावै बिखु जाणि ॥१॥

Baki baki vaadu chalaaiaa binu naavai bikhu jaa(nn)i ||1||

Talking too much, one only starts arguments. Without the Name, everything is poison - know this well. ||1||

ਬਾਬਾ ਐਸਾ ਬਿਖਮ ਜਾਲਿ ਮਨੁ ਵਾਸਿਆ ॥

बाबा ऐसा बिखम जालि मनु वासिआ ॥

Baabaa aisaa bikham jaali manu vaasiaa ||

O Baba, such is the treacherous trap which has caught my mind;

ਬਿਬਲੁ ਝਾਗਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

बिबलु झागि सहजि परगासिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Bibalu jhaagi sahaji paragaasiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Riding out the waves of the storm, it will be enlightened by intuitive wisdom. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

बिखु खाणा बिखु बोलणा बिखु की कार कमाइ ॥

Bikhu khaa(nn)aa bikhu bola(nn)aa bikhu kee kaar kamaai ||

They eat poison, speak poison and do poisonous deeds.

ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥

जम दरि बाधे मारीअहि छूटसि साचै नाइ ॥२॥

Jam dari baadhe maareeahi chhootasi saachai naai ||2||

Bound and gagged at Death's door, they are punished; they can be saved only through the True Name. ||2||

ਜਿਵ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਵ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਕੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

जिव आइआ तिव जाइसी कीआ लिखि लै जाइ ॥

Jiv aaiaa tiv jaaisee keeaa likhi lai jaai ||

As they come, they go. Their actions are recorded, and go along with them.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

मनमुखि मूलु गवाइआ दरगह मिलै सजाइ ॥३॥

Manamukhi moolu gavaaiaa daragah milai sajaai ||3||

The self-willed manmukh loses his capital, and is punished in the Court of the Lord. ||3||

ਜਗੁ ਖੋਟੌ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੌ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀਂ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

जगु खोटौ सचु निरमलौ गुर सबदीं वीचारि ॥

Jagu khotau sachu niramalau gur sabadeen veechaari ||

The world is false and polluted; only the True One is Pure. Contemplate Him through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਤੇ ਨਰ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੪॥

ते नर विरले जाणीअहि जिन अंतरि गिआनु मुरारि ॥४॥

Te nar virale jaa(nn)eeahi jin anttari giaanu muraari ||4||

Those who have God's spiritual wisdom within, are known to be very rare. ||4||

ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ਨੀਝਰੁ ਝਰੈ ਅਮਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਰੂਪ ॥

अजरु जरै नीझरु झरै अमर अनंद सरूप ॥

Ajaru jarai neejharu jharai amar anandd saroop ||

They endure the unendurable, and the Nectar of the Lord, the Embodiment of Bliss, trickles into them continuously.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਲ ਕੌ ਮੀਨੁ ਸੈ ਥੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੫॥੧੩॥

नानकु जल कौ मीनु सै थे भावै राखहु प्रीति ॥५॥१३॥

Naanaku jal kau meenu sai the bhaavai raakhahu preeti ||5||13||

O Nanak, the fish is in love with the water; if it pleases You, Lord, please enshrine such love within me. ||5||13||

ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਹਰਖ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥

गीत नाद हरख चतुराई ॥

Geet naad harakh chaturaaee ||

Songs, sounds, pleasures and clever tricks;

ਰਹਸ ਰੰਗ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸਿ ਕਾਈ ॥

रहस रंग फुरमाइसि काई ॥

Rahas rangg phuramaaisi kaaee ||

Joy, love and the power to command;

ਪੈਨੑਣੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

पैन्हणु खाणा चीति न पाई ॥

Painh(nn)u khaa(nn)aa cheeti na paaee ||

Fine clothes and food - these have no place in one's consciousness.

ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੧॥

साचु सहजु सुखु नामि वसाई ॥१॥

Saachu sahaju sukhu naami vasaaee ||1||

True intuitive peace and poise rest in the Naam. ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥

किआ जानां किआ करै करावै ॥

Kiaa jaanaan kiaa karai karaavai ||

What do I know about what God does?

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਤਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਸੁਖਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

नाम बिना तनि किछु न सुखावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Naam binaa tani kichhu na sukhaavai ||1|| rahaau ||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, nothing makes my body feel good. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੋਗ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਆਨੰਦਾ ॥

जोग बिनोद स्वाद आनंदा ॥

Jog binod svaad aananddaa ||

Yoga, thrills, delicious flavors and ecstasy;

ਮਤਿ ਸਤ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ॥

मति सत भाइ भगति गोबिंदा ॥

Mati sat bhaai bhagati gobinddaa ||

Wisdom, truth and love all come from devotion to the Lord of the Universe.

ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਾਰ ਨਿਜ ਸੰਦਾ ॥

कीरति करम कार निज संदा ॥

Keerati karam kaar nij sanddaa ||

My own occupation is to work to praise the Lord.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਤੌ ਰਾਜ ਰਵਿੰਦਾ ॥੨॥

अंतरि रवतौ राज रविंदा ॥२॥

Anttari ravatau raaj ravinddaa ||2||

Deep within, I dwell on the Lord of the sun and the moon. ||2||

ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

प्रिउ प्रिउ प्रीति प्रेमि उर धारी ॥

Priu priu preeti premi ur dhaaree ||

I have lovingly enshrined the love of my Beloved within my heart.

ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥੁ ਪੀਉ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥

दीना नाथु पीउ बनवारी ॥

Deenaa naathu peeu banavaaree ||

My Husband Lord, the Lord of the World, is the Master of the meek and the poor.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਬ੍ਰਤਕਾਰੀ ॥

अनदिनु नामु दानु ब्रतकारी ॥

Anadinu naamu daanu brtakaaree ||

Night and day, the Naam is my giving in charity and fasting.

ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਤਰੰਗ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੩॥

त्रिपति तरंग ततु बीचारी ॥३॥

Tripati tarangg tatu beechaaree ||3||

The waves have subsided, contemplating the essence of reality. ||3||

ਅਕਥੌ ਕਥਉ ਕਿਆ ਮੈ ਜੋਰੁ ॥

अकथौ कथउ किआ मै जोरु ॥

Akathau kathau kiaa mai joru ||

What power do I have to speak the Unspoken?

ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਕਰਾਇਹਿ ਮੋਰ ॥

भगति करी कराइहि मोर ॥

Bhagati karee karaaihi mor ||

I worship You with devotion; You inspire me to do so.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੈ ਮੋਰ ॥

अंतरि वसै चूकै मै मोर ॥

Anttari vasai chookai mai mor ||

You dwell deep within; my egotism is dispelled.

ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰੁ ॥੪॥

किसु सेवी दूजा नही होरु ॥४॥

Kisu sevee doojaa nahee horu ||4||

So whom should I serve? There is no other than You. ||4||

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ॥

गुर का सबदु महा रसु मीठा ॥

Gur kaa sabadu mahaa rasu meethaa ||

The Word of the Guru's Shabad is utterly sweet and sublime.

ਐਸਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥

ऐसा अम्रितु अंतरि डीठा ॥

Aisaa ammmritu anttari deethaa ||

Such is the Ambrosial Nectar I see deep within.

ਜਿਨਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

जिनि चाखिआ पूरा पदु होइ ॥

Jini chaakhiaa pooraa padu hoi ||

Those who taste this, attain the state of perfection.

ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਾਪਿਓ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੪॥

नानक ध्रापिओ तनि सुखु होइ ॥५॥१४॥

Naanak dhraapio tani sukhu hoi ||5||14||

O Nanak, they are satisfied, and their bodies are at peace. ||5||14||

अंतरि देखि सबदि मनु मानिआ अवरु न रांगनहारा ॥

Anttari dekhi sabadi manu maaniaa avaru na raanganahaaraa ||

Deep within, I see the Shabad, the Word of God; my mind is pleased and appeased. Nothing else can touch and imbue me.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜੀਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਸਰਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

अहिनिसि जीआ देखि समाले तिस ही की सरकारा ॥१॥

Ahinisi jeeaa dekhi samaale tis hee kee sarakaaraa ||1||

Day and night, God watches over and cares for His beings and creatures; He is the Ruler of all. ||1||

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਂਗਿ ਘਣੌ ਅਤਿ ਰੂੜੌ ॥

मेरा प्रभु रांगि घणौ अति रूड़ौ ॥

Meraa prbhu raangi gha(nn)au ati roo(rr)au ||

My God is dyed in the most beautiful and glorious color.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨਮੋਹਨੁ ਅਤਿ ਰਸ ਲਾਲ ਸਗੂੜੌ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

दीन दइआलु प्रीतम मनमोहनु अति रस लाल सगूड़ौ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Deen daiaalu preetam manamohanu ati ras laal sagoo(rr)au ||1|| rahaau ||

Merciful to the meek and the poor, my Beloved is the Enticer of the mind; He is so very sweet, imbued with the deep crimson color of His Love. ||1|| Pause ||

ਊਪਰਿ ਕੂਪੁ ਗਗਨ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

ऊपरि कूपु गगन पनिहारी अम्रितु पीवणहारा ॥

Upari koopu gagan panihaaree ammmritu peeva(nn)ahaaraa ||

The Well is high up in the Tenth Gate; the Ambrosial Nectar flows, and I drink it in.

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਸੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

जिस की रचना सो बिधि जाणै गुरमुखि गिआनु वीचारा ॥२॥

Jis kee rachanaa so bidhi jaa(nn)ai guramukhi giaanu veechaaraa ||2||

The creation is His; He alone knows its ways and means. The Gurmukh contemplates spiritual wisdom. ||2||

ਪਸਰੀ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਰਸਿ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਗਾਸੇ ਸਸਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਰੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

पसरी किरणि रसि कमल बिगासे ससि घरि सूरु समाइआ ॥

Pasaree kira(nn)i rasi kamal bigaase sasi ghari sooru samaaiaa ||

The rays of light spread out, and the heart-lotus joyfully blossoms forth; the sun enters into the house of the moon.

ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਧੁੰਸਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

कालु बिधुंसि मनसा मनि मारी गुर प्रसादि प्रभु पाइआ ॥३॥

Kaalu bidhunssi manasaa mani maaree gur prsaadi prbhu paaiaa ||3||

I have conquered death; the desires of the mind are destroyed. By Guru's Grace, I have found God. ||3||

ਅਤਿ ਰਸਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੈ ਰਾਤੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

अति रसि रंगि चलूलै राती दूजा रंगु न कोई ॥

Ati rasi ranggi chaloolai raatee doojaa ranggu na koee ||

I am dyed in the deep crimson color of His Love. I am not colored by any other color.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਸਨਿ ਰਸਾਏ ਰਾਤੇ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥

नानक रसनि रसाए राते रवि रहिआ प्रभु सोई ॥४॥१५॥

Naanak rasani rasaae raate ravi rahiaa prbhu soee ||4||15||

O Nanak, my tongue is saturated with the taste of God, who is permeating and pervading everywhere. ||4||15||

ਬਾਰਹ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਵਲ ਖਪਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਚਹੁ ਛਿਅ ਮਹਿ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ॥

बारह महि रावल खपि जावहि चहु छिअ महि संनिआसी ॥

Baarah mahi raaval khapi jaavahi chahu chhia mahi sanniaasee ||

The Yogis are divided into twelve schools, the Sannyaasees into ten.

ਜੋਗੀ ਕਾਪੜੀਆ ਸਿਰਖੂਥੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਗਲਿ ਫਾਸੀ ॥੧॥

जोगी कापड़ीआ सिरखूथे बिनु सबदै गलि फासी ॥१॥

Jogee kaapa(rr)eeaa sirakhoothe binu sabadai gali phaasee ||1||

The Yogis and those wearing religious robes, and the Jains with their all hair plucked out - without the Word of the Shabad, the noose is around their necks. ||1||

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥

सबदि रते पूरे बैरागी ॥

Sabadi rate poore bairaagee ||

Those who are imbued with the Shabad are the perfectly detached renunciates.

ਅਉਹਠਿ ਹਸਤ ਮਹਿ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਜਾਚੀ ਏਕ ਭਾਇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अउहठि हसत महि भीखिआ जाची एक भाइ लिव लागी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Auhathi hasat mahi bheekhiaa jaachee ek bhaai liv laagee ||1|| rahaau ||

They beg to receive charity in the hands of their hearts, embracing love and affection for the One. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣ ਵਾਦੁ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ॥

ब्रहमण वादु पड़हि करि किरिआ करणी करम कराए ॥

Brhama(nn) vaadu pa(rr)ahi kari kiriaa kara(nn)ee karam karaae ||

The Brahmins study and argue about the scriptures; they perform ceremonial rituals, and lead others in these rituals.

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥

बिनु बूझे किछु सूझै नाही मनमुखु विछुड़ि दुखु पाए ॥२॥

Binu boojhe kichhu soojhai naahee manamukhu vichhu(rr)i dukhu paae ||2||

Without true understanding, those self-willed manmukhs understand nothing. Separated from God, they suffer in pain. ||2||

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਸੂਚਾਚਾਰੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੇ ॥

सबदि मिले से सूचाचारी साची दरगह माने ॥

Sabadi mile se soochaachaaree saachee daragah maane ||

Those who receive the Shabad are sanctified and pure; they are approved in the True Court.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਨਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥੩॥

अनदिनु नामि रतनि लिव लागे जुगि जुगि साचि समाने ॥३॥

Anadinu naami ratani liv laage jugi jugi saachi samaane ||3||

Night and day, they remain lovingly attuned to the Naam; throughout the ages, they are merged in the True One. ||3||

ਸਗਲੇ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਸੇ ॥

सगले करम धरम सुचि संजम जप तप तीरथ सबदि वसे ॥

Sagale karam dharam suchi sanjjam jap tap teerath sabadi vase ||

Good deeds, righteousness and Dharmic faith, purification, austere self-discipline, chanting, intense meditation and pilgrimages to sacred shrines - all these abide in the Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਦੂਖ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਕਾਲ ਨਸੇ ॥੪॥੧੬॥

नानक सतिगुर मिलै मिलाइआ दूख पराछत काल नसे ॥४॥१६॥

Naanak satigur milai milaaiaa dookh paraachhat kaal nase ||4||16||

O Nanak, united in union with the True Guru, suffering, sin and death run away. ||4||16||

ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਤਰੁ ਤਾਰੀ ॥

संता की रेणु साध जन संगति हरि कीरति तरु तारी ॥

Santtaa kee re(nn)u saadh jan sanggati hari keerati taru taaree ||

The dust of the feet of the Saints, the Company of the Holy, and the Praises of the Lord carry us across to the other side.

ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਜਮੁ ਡਰਪੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੧॥

कहा करै बपुरा जमु डरपै गुरमुखि रिदै मुरारी ॥१॥

Kahaa karai bapuraa jamu darapai guramukhi ridai muraaree ||1||

What can the wretched, terrified Messenger of Death do to the Gurmukhs? The Lord abides in their hearts. ||1||

ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ॥

जलि जाउ जीवनु नाम बिना ॥

Jali jaau jeevanu naam binaa ||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, life might just as well be burnt down.

ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਉ ਜਪਮਾਲੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਵੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि जपि जापु जपउ जपमाली गुरमुखि आवै सादु मना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari japi jaapu japau japamaalee guramukhi aavai saadu manaa ||1|| rahaau ||

The Gurmukh chants and meditates on the Lord, chanting the chant on the mala; the Flavor of the Lord comes into the mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਸਾਚੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਹੀਐ ॥

गुर उपदेस साचु सुखु जा कउ किआ तिसु उपमा कहीऐ ॥

Gur upades saachu sukhu jaa kau kiaa tisu upamaa kaheeai ||

Those who follow the Guru's Teachings find true peace - how can I even describe the glory of such a person?

ਲਾਲ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਖੋਜਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਹੀਐ ॥੨॥

लाल जवेहर रतन पदारथ खोजत गुरमुखि लहीऐ ॥२॥

Laal javehar ratan padaarath khojat guramukhi laheeai ||2||

The Gurmukh seeks and finds the gems and jewels, diamonds, rubies and treasures. ||2||

ਚੀਨੈ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਚੌ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

चीनै गिआनु धिआनु धनु साचौ एक सबदि लिव लावै ॥

Cheenai giaanu dhiaanu dhanu saachau ek sabadi liv laavai ||

So center yourself on the treasures of spiritual wisdom and meditation; remain lovingly attuned to the One True Lord, and the Word of His Shabad.

ਨਿਰਾਲੰਬੁ ਨਿਰਹਾਰੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

निराल्मबु निरहारु निहकेवलु निरभउ ताड़ी लावै ॥३॥

Niraalambbu nirahaaru nihakevalu nirabhau taa(rr)ee laavai ||3||

Remain absorbed in the Primal State of the Fearless, Immaculate, Independent, Self-sufficient Lord. ||3||

ਸਾਇਰ ਸਪਤ ਭਰੇ ਜਲ ਨਿਰਮਲਿ ਉਲਟੀ ਨਾਵ ਤਰਾਵੈ ॥

साइर सपत भरे जल निरमलि उलटी नाव तरावै ॥

Saair sapat bhare jal niramali ulatee naav taraavai ||

The seven seas are overflowing with the Immaculate Water; the inverted boat floats across.

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਤੌ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੪॥

बाहरि जातौ ठाकि रहावै गुरमुखि सहजि समावै ॥४॥

Baahari jaatau thaaki rahaavai guramukhi sahaji samaavai ||4||

The mind which wandered in external distractions is restrained and held in check; the Gurmukh is intuitively absorbed in God. ||4||

ਸੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਸੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥

सो गिरही सो दासु उदासी जिनि गुरमुखि आपु पछानिआ ॥

So girahee so daasu udaasee jini guramukhi aapu pachhaaniaa ||

He is a householder, he is a renunciate and God's slave, who, as Gurmukh, realizes his own self.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੫॥੧੭॥

नानकु कहै अवरु नही दूजा साच सबदि मनु मानिआ ॥५॥१७॥

Naanaku kahai avaru nahee doojaa saach sabadi manu maaniaa ||5||17||

Says Nanak, his mind is pleased and appeased by the True Word of the Shabad; there is no other at all. ||5||17||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

गुरमुखि विरला कोई बूझै सबदे रहिआ समाई ॥

Guramukhi viralaa koee boojhai sabade rahiaa samaaee ||

Those who become Gurmukh and understand are very rare; God is permeating and pervading through the Word of His Shabad.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥

नामि रते सदा सुखु पावै साचि रहै लिव लाई ॥१॥

Naami rate sadaa sukhu paavai saachi rahai liv laaee ||1||

Those who are imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, find everlasting peace; they remain lovingly attuned to the True One. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ॥

हरि हरि नामु जपहु जन भाई ॥

Hari hari naamu japahu jan bhaaee ||

Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਘਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर प्रसादि मनु असथिरु होवै अनदिनु हरि रसि रहिआ अघाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur prsaadi manu asathiru hovai anadinu hari rasi rahiaa aghaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

By Guru's Grace, the mind becomes steady and stable; night and day, it remains satisfied with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਕਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਭਾਈ ॥

अनदिनु भगति करहु दिनु राती इसु जुग का लाहा भाई ॥

Anadinu bhagati karahu dinu raatee isu jug kaa laahaa bhaaee ||

Night and day, perform devotional worship service to the Lord, day and night; this is the profit to be obtained in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥੨॥

सदा जन निरमल मैलु न लागै सचि नामि चितु लाई ॥२॥

Sadaa jan niramal mailu na laagai sachi naami chitu laaee ||2||

The humble beings are forever immaculate; no filth ever sticks to them. They focus their consciousness on the True Name. ||2||

ਸੁਖੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

सुखु सीगारु सतिगुरू दिखाइआ नामि वडी वडिआई ॥

Sukhu seegaaru satiguroo dikhaaiaa naami vadee vadiaaee ||

The True Guru has revealed the ornamentation of peace; the Glorious Greatness of the Naam is Great!

ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਭਰੇ ਕਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥੩॥

अखुट भंडार भरे कदे तोटि न आवै सदा हरि सेवहु भाई ॥३॥

Akhut bhanddaar bhare kade toti na aavai sadaa hari sevahu bhaaee ||3||

The Inexhaustible Treasures are overflowing; they are never exhausted. So serve the Lord forever, O Siblings of Destiny. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥

आपे करता जिस नो देवै तिसु वसै मनि आई ॥

Aape karataa jis no devai tisu vasai mani aaee ||

The Creator comes to abide in the minds of those whom He Himself has blessed.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥

नानक नामु धिआइ सदा तू सतिगुरि दीआ दिखाई ॥४॥१॥

Naanak naamu dhiaai sadaa too satiguri deeaa dikhaaee ||4||1||

O Nanak, meditate forever on the Naam, which the True Guru has revealed. ||4||1||

ਨਿਰਗੁਣੀਆਰੇ ਕਉ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪੇ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥

निरगुणीआरे कउ बखसि लै सुआमी आपे लैहु मिलाई ॥

Niragu(nn)eeaare kau bakhasi lai suaamee aape laihu milaaee ||

I am unworthy; please forgive me and bless me, O my Lord and Master, and unite me with Yourself.

ਤੂ ਬਿਅੰਤੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਦੇਹੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥

तू बिअंतु तेरा अंतु न पाइआ सबदे देहु बुझाई ॥१॥

Too bianttu teraa anttu na paaiaa sabade dehu bujhaaee ||1||

You are Endless; no one can find Your limits. Through the Word of Your Shabad, You bestow understanding. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

हरि जीउ तुधु विटहु बलि जाई ॥

Hari jeeu tudhu vitahu bali jaaee ||

O Dear Lord, I am a sacrifice to You.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖਉ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तनु मनु अरपी तुधु आगै राखउ सदा रहां सरणाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tanu manu arapee tudhu aagai raakhau sadaa rahaan sara(nn)aaee ||1|| rahaau ||

I dedicate my mind and body and place them in offering before You; I shall remain in Your Sanctuary forever. ||1|| Pause ||

ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਖੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

आपणे भाणे विचि सदा रखु सुआमी हरि नामो देहि वडिआई ॥

Aapa(nn)e bhaa(nn)e vichi sadaa rakhu suaamee hari naamo dehi vadiaaee ||

Please keep me forever under Your Will, O my Lord and Master; please bless me with the Glorious Greatness of Your Name.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਭਾਣਾ ਜਾਪੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥

पूरे गुर ते भाणा जापै अनदिनु सहजि समाई ॥२॥

Poore gur te bhaa(nn)aa jaapai anadinu sahaji samaaee ||2||

Through the Perfect Guru, God's Will is revealed; night and day, remain absorbed in peace and poise. ||2||

ਤੇਰੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥

तेरै भाणै भगति जे तुधु भावै आपे बखसि मिलाई ॥

Terai bhaa(nn)ai bhagati je tudhu bhaavai aape bakhasi milaaee ||

Those devotees who accept Your Will are pleasing to You, Lord; You Yourself forgive them, and unite them with Yourself.

ਤੇਰੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥

तेरै भाणै सदा सुखु पाइआ गुरि त्रिसना अगनि बुझाई ॥३॥

Terai bhaa(nn)ai sadaa sukhu paaiaa guri trisanaa agani bujhaaee ||3||

Accepting Your Will, I have found everlasting peace; the Guru has extinguished the fire of desire. ||3||

ਜੋ ਤੂ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਰਤੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥

जो तू करहि सु होवै करते अवरु न करणा जाई ॥

Jo too karahi su hovai karate avaru na kara(nn)aa jaaee ||

Whatever You do comes to pass, O Creator; nothing else can be done.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥

नानक नावै जेवडु अवरु न दाता पूरे गुर ते पाई ॥४॥२॥

Naanak naavai jevadu avaru na daataa poore gur te paaee ||4||2||

O Nanak, nothing is as great as the Blessing of the Name; it is obtained through the Perfect Guru. ||4||2||

गुरमुखि हरि सालाहिआ जिंना तिन सलाहि हरि जाता ॥

Guramukhi hari saalaahiaa jinnaa tin salaahi hari jaataa ||

The Gurmukhs praise the Lord; praising the Lord, they know Him.

ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੧॥

विचहु भरमु गइआ है दूजा गुर कै सबदि पछाता ॥१॥

Vichahu bharamu gaiaa hai doojaa gur kai sabadi pachhaataa ||1||

Doubt and duality are gone from within; they realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਕੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

हरि जीउ तू मेरा इकु सोई ॥

Hari jeeu too meraa iku soee ||

O Dear Lord, You are my One and Only.

ਤੁਧੁ ਜਪੀ ਤੁਧੈ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तुधु जपी तुधै सालाही गति मति तुझ ते होई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tudhu japee tudhai saalaahee gati mati tujh te hoee ||1|| rahaau ||

I meditate on You and praise You; salvation and wisdom come from You. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

गुरमुखि सालाहनि से सादु पाइनि मीठा अम्रितु सारु ॥

Guramukhi saalaahani se saadu paaini meethaa ammmritu saaru ||

The Gurmukhs praise You; they receive the most excellent and sweet Ambrosial Nectar.

ਸਦਾ ਮੀਠਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਫੀਕਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

सदा मीठा कदे न फीका गुर सबदी वीचारु ॥२॥

Sadaa meethaa kade na pheekaa gur sabadee veechaaru ||2||

This Nectar is forever sweet; it never loses its taste. Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||

ਜਿਨਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

जिनि मीठा लाइआ सोई जाणै तिसु विटहु बलि जाई ॥

Jini meethaa laaiaa soee jaa(nn)ai tisu vitahu bali jaaee ||

He makes it seem so sweet to me; I am a sacrifice to Him.

ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੩॥

सबदि सलाही सदा सुखदाता विचहु आपु गवाई ॥३॥

Sabadi salaahee sadaa sukhadaataa vichahu aapu gavaaee ||3||

Through the Shabad, I praise the Giver of peace forever. I have eradicated self-conceit from within. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

सतिगुरु मेरा सदा है दाता जो इछै सो फलु पाए ॥

Satiguru meraa sadaa hai daataa jo ichhai so phalu paae ||

My True Guru is forever the Giver. I receive whatever fruits and rewards I desire.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੩॥

नानक नामु मिलै वडिआई गुर सबदी सचु पाए ॥४॥३॥

Naanak naamu milai vadiaaee gur sabadee sachu paae ||4||3||

O Nanak, through the Naam, glorious greatness is obtained; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the True One is found. ||4||3||

जो तेरी सरणाई हरि जीउ तिन तू राखन जोगु ॥

Jo teree sara(nn)aaee hari jeeu tin too raakhan jogu ||

Those who enter Your Sanctuary, Dear Lord, are saved by Your Protective Power.

ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਨ ਹੋਗੁ ॥੧॥

तुधु जेवडु मै अवरु न सूझै ना को होआ न होगु ॥१॥

Tudhu jevadu mai avaru na soojhai naa ko hoaa na hogu ||1||

I cannot even conceive of any other as Great as You. There never was, and there never shall be. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

हरि जीउ सदा तेरी सरणाई ॥

Hari jeeu sadaa teree sara(nn)aaee ||

O Dear Lord, I shall remain in Your Sanctuary forever.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਏਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिउ भावै तिउ राखहु मेरे सुआमी एह तेरी वडिआई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jiu bhaavai tiu raakhahu mere suaamee eh teree vadiaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

As it pleases You, You save me, O my Lord and Master; this is Your Glorious Greatness. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥

जो तेरी सरणाई हरि जीउ तिन की करहि प्रतिपाल ॥

Jo teree sara(nn)aaee hari jeeu tin kee karahi prtipaal ||

O Dear Lord, You cherish and sustain those who seek Your Sanctuary.

ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ॥੨॥

आपि क्रिपा करि राखहु हरि जीउ पोहि न सकै जमकालु ॥२॥

Aapi kripaa kari raakhahu hari jeeu pohi na sakai jamakaalu ||2||

O Dear Lord, the Messenger of Death cannot even touch those whom You, in Your Mercy, protect. ||2||

ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸਚੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨਾ ਓਹ ਘਟੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

तेरी सरणाई सची हरि जीउ ना ओह घटै न जाइ ॥

Teree sara(nn)aaee sachee hari jeeu naa oh ghatai na jaai ||

True Is Your Sanctuary, O Dear Lord; it never diminishes or goes away.

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਾਗੈ ਓਹੁ ਜੰਮੈ ਤੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

जो हरि छोडि दूजै भाइ लागै ओहु जमै तै मरि जाइ ॥३॥

Jo hari chhodi doojai bhaai laagai ohu jammai tai mari jaai ||3||

Those who abandon the Lord, and become attached to the love of duality, shall continue to die and be reborn. ||3||

ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

जो तेरी सरणाई हरि जीउ तिना दूख भूख किछु नाहि ॥

Jo teree sara(nn)aaee hari jeeu tinaa dookh bhookh kichhu naahi ||

Those who seek Your Sanctuary, Dear Lord, shall never suffer in pain or hunger for anything.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੪॥੪॥

नानक नामु सलाहि सदा तू सचै सबदि समाहि ॥४॥४॥

Naanak naamu salaahi sadaa too sachai sabadi samaahi ||4||4||

O Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord forever, and merge in the True Word of the Shabad. ||4||4||

Prabhaatee, Third Mehl:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਨ ॥

गुरमुखि हरि जीउ सदा धिआवहु जब लगु जीअ परान ॥

Guramukhi hari jeeu sadaa dhiaavahu jab lagu jeea paraan ||

As Gurmukh, meditate on the Dear Lord forever, as long as there is the breath of life.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

गुर सबदी मनु निरमलु होआ चूका मनि अभिमानु ॥

Gur sabadee manu niramalu hoaa chookaa mani abhimaanu ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the mind becomes immaculate, and egotistical pride is expelled from the mind.

ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਕੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਨ ॥੧॥

सफलु जनमु तिसु प्रानी केरा हरि कै नामि समान ॥१॥

Saphalu janamu tisu praanee keraa hari kai naami samaan ||1||

Fruitful and prosperous is the life of that mortal being, who is absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣੀਜੈ ॥

मेरे मन गुर की सिख सुणीजै ॥

Mere man gur kee sikh su(nn)eejai ||

O my mind, listen to the Teachings of the Guru.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि का नामु सदा सुखदाता सहजे हरि रसु पीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari kaa naamu sadaa sukhadaataa sahaje hari rasu peejai ||1|| rahaau ||

The Name of the Lord is the Giver of peace forever. With intuitive ease, drink in the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੂਲੁ ਪਛਾਣਨਿ ਤਿਨ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

मूलु पछाणनि तिन निज घरि वासा सहजे ही सुखु होई ॥

Moolu pachhaa(nn)ani tin nij ghari vaasaa sahaje hee sukhu hoee ||

Those who understand their own origin dwell within the home of their inner being, in intuitive peace and poise.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥

गुर कै सबदि कमलु परगासिआ हउमै दुरमति खोई ॥

Gur kai sabadi kamalu paragaasiaa haumai duramati khoee ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the heart-lotus blossoms forth, and egotism and evil-mindedness are eradicated.

ਸਭਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥

सभना महि एको सचु वरतै विरला बूझै कोई ॥२॥

Sabhanaa mahi eko sachu varatai viralaa boojhai koee ||2||

The One True Lord is pervading amongst all; those who realize this are very rare. ||2||

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਤੁ ਵਖਾਨੈ ॥

गुरमती मनु निरमलु होआ अम्रितु ततु वखानै ॥

Guramatee manu niramalu hoaa ammmritu tatu vakhaanai ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the mind becomes immaculate, speaking the Ambrosial Essence.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥

हरि का नामु सदा मनि वसिआ विचि मन ही मनु मानै ॥

Hari kaa naamu sadaa mani vasiaa vichi man hee manu maanai ||

The Name of the Lord dwells in the mind forever; within the mind, the mind is pleased and appeased.

ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੩॥

सद बलिहारी गुर अपुने विटहु जितु आतम रामु पछानै ॥३॥

Sad balihaaree gur apune vitahu jitu aatam raamu pachhaanai ||3||

I am forever a sacrifice to my Guru, through whom I have realized the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||3||

ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

मानस जनमि सतिगुरू न सेविआ बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ ॥

Maanas janami satiguroo na seviaa birathaa janamu gavaaiaa ||

Those human beings who do not serve the True Guru - their lives are uselessly wasted.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

नदरि करे तां सतिगुरु मेले सहजे सहजि समाइआ ॥

Nadari kare taan satiguru mele sahaje sahaji samaaiaa ||

When God bestows His Glance of Grace, then we meet the True Guru, merging in intuitive peace and poise.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥

नानक नामु मिलै वडिआई पूरै भागि धिआइआ ॥४॥५॥

Naanak naamu milai vadiaaee poorai bhaagi dhiaaiaa ||4||5||

O Nanak, by great good fortune, the Naam is bestowed; by perfect destiny, meditate. ||4||5||

Prabhaatee, Third Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਬਣਾਏ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਖੇਲੁ ਕੀਆ ॥

आपे भांति बणाए बहु रंगी सिसटि उपाइ प्रभि खेलु कीआ ॥

Aape bhaanti ba(nn)aae bahu ranggee sisati upaai prbhi khelu keeaa ||

God Himself fashioned the many forms and colors; He created the Universe and staged the play.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਨੋ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੧॥

करि करि वेखै करे कराए सरब जीआ नो रिजकु दीआ ॥१॥

Kari kari vekhai kare karaae sarab jeeaa no rijaku deeaa ||1||

Creating the creation, He watches over it. He acts, and causes all to act; He gives sustenance to all beings. ||1||

ਕਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਰਾਮੁ ॥

कली काल महि रविआ रामु ॥

Kalee kaal mahi raviaa raamu ||

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord is All-pervading.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

घटि घटि पूरि रहिआ प्रभु एको गुरमुखि परगटु हरि हरि नामु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ghati ghati poori rahiaa prbhu eko guramukhi paragatu hari hari naamu ||1|| rahaau ||

The One God is pervading and permeating each and every heart; the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is revealed to the Gurmukh. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਲਜੁਗਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥

गुपता नामु वरतै विचि कलजुगि घटि घटि हरि भरपूरि रहिआ ॥

Gupataa naamu varatai vichi kalajugi ghati ghati hari bharapoori rahiaa ||

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is hidden, but it is pervasive in the Dark Age. The Lord is totally pervading and permeating each and every heart.

ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੨॥

नामु रतनु तिना हिरदै प्रगटिआ जो गुर सरणाई भजि पइआ ॥२॥

Naamu ratanu tinaa hiradai prgatiaa jo gur sara(nn)aaee bhaji paiaa ||2||

The Jewel of the Naam is revealed within the hearts of those who hurry to the Sanctuary of the Guru. ||2||

ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਪੰਚ ਪੰਚੇ ਵਸਿ ਆਣੈ ਖਿਮਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

इंद्री पंच पंचे वसि आणै खिमा संतोखु गुरमति पावै ॥

Ianddree pancch pancche vasi aa(nn)ai khimaa santtokhu guramati paavai ||

Whoever overpowers the five sense organs, is blessed with forgiveness, patience and contentment, through the Guru's Teachings.

ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਵਡ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੋ ਭੈ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

सो धनु धनु हरि जनु वड पूरा जो भै बैरागि हरि गुण गावै ॥३॥

So dhanu dhanu hari janu vad pooraa jo bhai bairaagi hari gu(nn) gaavai ||3||

Blessed, blessed, perfect and great is that humble servant of the Lord, who is inspired by the Fear of God and detached love, to sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਫੇਰੇ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਨ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਰੈ ॥

गुर ते मुहु फेरे जे कोई गुर का कहिआ न चिति धरै ॥

Gur te muhu phere je koee gur kaa kahiaa na chiti dharai ||

If someone turns his face away from the Guru, and does not enshrine the Guru's Words in his consciousness

ਕਰਿ ਆਚਾਰ ਬਹੁ ਸੰਪਉ ਸੰਚੈ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਰੈ ॥੪॥

करि आचार बहु स्मपउ संचै जो किछु करै सु नरकि परै ॥४॥

Kari aachaar bahu samppau sancchai jo kichhu karai su naraki parai ||4||

- he may perform all sorts of rituals and accumulate wealth, but in the end, he will fall into hell. ||4||

ਏਕੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਏਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਏਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਉਤਪਤਿ ਚਲੈ ॥

एको सबदु एको प्रभु वरतै सभ एकसु ते उतपति चलै ॥

Eko sabadu eko prbhu varatai sabh ekasu te utapati chalai ||

The One Shabad, the Word of the One God, is prevailing everywhere. All the creation came from the One Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਰਲੈ ॥੫॥੬॥

नानक गुरमुखि मेलि मिलाए गुरमुखि हरि हरि जाइ रलै ॥५॥६॥

Naanak guramukhi meli milaae guramukhi hari hari jaai ralai ||5||6||

O Nanak, the Gurmukh is united in union. When the Gurmukh goes, he blends into the Lord, Har, Har. ||5||6||

ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Prabhaatee, Third Mehl:

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥

मेरे मन गुरु अपणा सालाहि ॥

Mere man guru apa(nn)aa saalaahi ||

O my mind, praise your Guru.

ਪੂਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

पूरा भागु होवै मुखि मसतकि सदा हरि के गुण गाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Pooraa bhaagu hovai mukhi masataki sadaa hari ke gu(nn) gaahi ||1|| rahaau ||

Perfect destiny is inscribed upon your forehead and face; sing the Praises of the Lord forever. ||1|| Pause ||

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਇ ॥

अम्रित नामु भोजनु हरि देइ ॥

Ammmrit naamu bhojanu hari dei ||

The Lord bestows the Ambrosial Food of the Naam.

ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਲੇਇ ॥

कोटि मधे कोई विरला लेइ ॥

Koti madhe koee viralaa lei ||

Out of millions, only a rare few receive it

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਅਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥

जिस नो अपणी नदरि करेइ ॥१॥

Jis no apa(nn)ee nadari karei ||1||

- only those who are blessed by God's Glance of Grace. ||1||

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਵਸਾਇ ॥

गुर के चरण मन माहि वसाइ ॥

Gur ke chara(nn) man maahi vasaai ||

Whoever enshrines the Guru's Feet within his mind,

ਦੁਖੁ ਅਨੑੇਰਾ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

दुखु अन्हेरा अंदरहु जाइ ॥

Dukhu anheraa anddarahu jaai ||

Is rid of pain and darkness from within.

ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥

आपे साचा लए मिलाइ ॥२॥

Aape saachaa lae milaai ||2||

The True Lord unites him with Himself. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

गुर की बाणी सिउ लाइ पिआरु ॥

Gur kee baa(nn)ee siu laai piaaru ||

So embrace love for the Word of the Guru's Bani.

ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਏਹੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥

ऐथै ओथै एहु अधारु ॥

Aithai othai ehu adhaaru ||

Here and hereafter, this is your only Support.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

आपे देवै सिरजनहारु ॥३॥

Aape devai sirajanahaaru ||3||

The Creator Lord Himself bestows it. ||3||

ਸਚਾ ਮਨਾਏ ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥

सचा मनाए अपणा भाणा ॥

Sachaa manaae apa(nn)aa bhaa(nn)aa ||

One whom the Lord inspires to accept His Will,

ਸੋਈ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੋੁਜਾਣਾ ॥

सोई भगतु सुघड़ु सोजाणा ॥

Soee bhagatu sugha(rr)u saojaa(nn)aa ||

Is a wise and knowing devotee.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੭॥੭॥੨੪॥

नानकु तिस कै सद कुरबाणा ॥४॥७॥१७॥७॥२४॥

Naanaku tis kai sad kurabaa(nn)aa ||4||7||17||7||24||

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to him. ||4||7||17||7||24||

ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

प्रभाती महला ४ ॥

Prbhaatee mahalaa 4 ||

Prabhaatee, Fourth Mehl:

ਉਗਵੈ ਸੂਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਭ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਲ ॥

उगवै सूरु गुरमुखि हरि बोलहि सभ रैनि सम्हालहि हरि गाल ॥

Ugavai sooru guramukhi hari bolahi sabh raini samhaalahi hari gaal ||

With the rising of the sun, the Gurmukh speaks of the Lord. All through the night, he dwells upon the Sermon of the Lord.

ਹਮਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਹਮ ਲੋਚ ਲਗਾਈ ਹਮ ਕਰਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲ ॥੧॥

हमरै प्रभि हम लोच लगाई हम करह प्रभू हरि भाल ॥१॥

Hamarai prbhi ham loch lagaaee ham karah prbhoo hari bhaal ||1||

My God has infused this longing within me; I seek my Lord God. ||1||

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਰਵਾਲ ॥

मेरा मनु साधू धूरि रवाल ॥

Meraa manu saadhoo dhoori ravaal ||

My mind is the dust of the feet of the Holy.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਪਗ ਝਾਰਹ ਹਮ ਬਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हरि नामु द्रिड़ाइओ गुरि मीठा गुर पग झारह हम बाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari naamu dri(rr)aaio guri meethaa gur pag jhaarah ham baal ||1|| rahaau ||

The Guru has implanted the Sweet Name of the Lord, Har, Har, within me. I dust the Guru's Feet with my hair. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਾਕਤ ਕਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਅੰਧਾਰੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਫਾਥੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲ ॥

साकत कउ दिनु रैनि अंधारी मोहि फाथे माइआ जाल ॥

Saakat kau dinu raini anddhaaree mohi phaathe maaiaa jaal ||

Dark are the days and nights of the faithless cynics; they are caught in the trap of attachment to Maya.

ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਵਸਿਓ ਰਿਨਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਲ ॥੨॥

खिनु पलु हरि प्रभु रिदै न वसिओ रिनि बाधे बहु बिधि बाल ॥२॥

Khinu palu hari prbhu ridai na vasio rini baadhe bahu bidhi baal ||2||

The Lord God does not dwell in their hearts, even for an instant; every hair of their heads is totally tied up in debts. ||2||

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਹਉ ਛੂਟੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਲ ॥

सतसंगति मिलि मति बुधि पाई हउ छूटे ममता जाल ॥

Satasanggati mili mati budhi paaee hau chhoote mamataa jaal ||

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, wisdom and understanding are obtained, and one is released from the traps of egotism and possessiveness.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੩॥

हरि नामा हरि मीठ लगाना गुरि कीए सबदि निहाल ॥३॥

Hari naamaa hari meeth lagaanaa guri keee sabadi nihaal ||3||

The Lord's Name, and the Lord, seem sweet to me. Through the Word of His Shabad, the Guru has made me happy. ||3||

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਗੁਰ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥

हम बारिक गुर अगम गुसाई गुर करि किरपा प्रतिपाल ॥

Ham baarik gur agam gusaaee gur kari kirapaa prtipaal ||

I am just a child; the Guru is the Unfathomable Lord of the World. In His Mercy, He cherishes and sustains me.

ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲ ॥੪॥੨॥

बिखु भउजल डुबदे काढि लेहु प्रभ गुर नानक बाल गुपाल ॥४॥२॥

Bikhu bhaujal dubade kaadhi lehu prbh gur naanak baal gupaal ||4||2||

I am drowning in the ocean of poison; O God, Guru, Lord of the World, please save Your child, Nanak. ||4||2||

Prabhaatee, Fourth Mehl:

ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਰਸਕ ਰਸੀਕ ॥

इकु खिनु हरि प्रभि किरपा धारी गुन गाए रसक रसीक ॥

Iku khinu hari prbhi kirapaa dhaaree gun gaae rasak raseek ||

The Lord God showered me with His Mercy for an instant; I sing His Glorious Praises with joyous love and delight.

ਗਾਵਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਦੋਊ ਭਏ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੀਕ ॥੧॥

गावत सुनत दोऊ भए मुकते जिना गुरमुखि खिनु हरि पीक ॥१॥

Gaavat sunat dou bhae mukate jinaa guramukhi khinu hari peek ||1||

Both the singer and the listener are liberated, when, as Gurmukh, they drink in the Lord's Name, even for an instant. ||1||

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸੁ ਟੀਕ ॥

मेरै मनि हरि हरि राम नामु रसु टीक ॥

Merai mani hari hari raam naamu rasu teek ||

The Sublime Essence of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is enshrined within my mind.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੀਤਲ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੀਆ ਰਸੁ ਝੀਕ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमुखि नामु सीतल जलु पाइआ हरि हरि नामु पीआ रसु झीक ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramukhi naamu seetal jalu paaiaa hari hari naamu peeaa rasu jheek ||1|| rahaau ||

As Gurmukh, I have obtained the cooling, soothing Water of the Naam. I eagerly drink in the sublime essence of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਨੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਊਜਲ ਟੀਕ ॥

जिन हरि हिरदै प्रीति लगानी तिना मसतकि ऊजल टीक ॥

Jin hari hiradai preeti lagaanee tinaa masataki ujal teek ||

Those whose hearts are imbued with the Love of the Lord have the mark of radiant purity upon their foreheads.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਵਿਚਿ ਉਡਵਾ ਸਸਿ ਕੀਕ ॥੨॥

हरि जन सोभा सभ जग ऊपरि जिउ विचि उडवा ससि कीक ॥२॥

Hari jan sobhaa sabh jag upari jiu vichi udavaa sasi keek ||2||

The Glory of the Lord's humble servant is manifest throughout the world, like the moon among the stars. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਸਿਓ ਤਿਨ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਫੀਕ ॥

जिन हरि हिरदै नामु न वसिओ तिन सभि कारज फीक ॥

Jin hari hiradai naamu na vasio tin sabhi kaaraj pheek ||

Those whose hearts are not filled with the Lord's Name - all their affairs are worthless and insipid.

ਜੈਸੇ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰੈ ਦੇਹ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਕਟੇ ਨਕ ਕੀਕ ॥੩॥

जैसे सीगारु करै देह मानुख नाम बिना नकटे नक कीक ॥३॥

Jaise seegaaru karai deh maanukh naam binaa nakate nak keek ||3||

They may adorn and decorate their bodies, but without the Naam, they look like their noses have been cut off. ||3||

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਸਭ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਈਕ ॥

घटि घटि रमईआ रमत राम राइ सभ वरतै सभ महि ईक ॥

Ghati ghati ramaeeaa ramat raam raai sabh varatai sabh mahi eek ||

The Sovereign Lord permeates each and every heart; the One Lord is all-pervading everywhere.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਘਰੀ ਮੀਕ ॥੪॥੩॥

जन नानक कउ हरि किरपा धारी गुर बचन धिआइओ घरी मीक ॥४॥३॥

Jan naanak kau hari kirapaa dhaaree gur bachan dhiaaio gharee meek ||4||3||

The Lord has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, I have meditated on the Lord in an instant. ||4||3||

ਅਗਮ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮ ਕਹੇ ॥

अगम दइआल क्रिपा प्रभि धारी मुखि हरि हरि नामु हम कहे ॥

Agam daiaal kripaa prbhi dhaaree mukhi hari hari naamu ham kahe ||

God, the Inaccessible and Merciful, has showered me with His Mercy; I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, with my mouth.

ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਲਹੇ ॥੧॥

पतित पावन हरि नामु धिआइओ सभि किलबिख पाप लहे ॥१॥

Patit paavan hari naamu dhiaaio sabhi kilabikh paap lahe ||1||

I meditate on the Name of the Lord, the Purifier of sinners; I am rid of all my sins and mistakes. ||1||

ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ॥

जपि मन राम नामु रवि रहे ॥

Japi man raam naamu ravi rahe ||

O mind, chant the Name of the All-pervading Lord.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗਾਇਓ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਲਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

दीन दइआलु दुख भंजनु गाइओ गुरमति नामु पदारथु लहे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Deen daiaalu dukh bhanjjanu gaaio guramati naamu padaarathu lahe ||1|| rahaau ||

I sing the Praises of the Lord, Merciful to the meek, Destroyer of pain. Following the Guru's Teachings, I gather in the Wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰਿ ਨਗਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਿਓ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਹੇ ॥

काइआ नगरि नगरि हरि बसिओ मति गुरमति हरि हरि सहे ॥

Kaaiaa nagari nagari hari basio mati guramati hari hari sahe ||

The Lord abides in the body-village; through the Wisdom of the Guru's Teachings, the Lord, Har, Har, is revealed.

ਸਰੀਰਿ ਸਰੋਵਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਓ ਘਰਿ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਹੇ ॥੨॥

सरीरि सरोवरि नामु हरि प्रगटिओ घरि मंदरि हरि प्रभु लहे ॥२॥

Sareeri sarovari naamu hari prgatio ghari manddari hari prbhu lahe ||2||

In the lake of the body, the Lord's Name has been revealed. Within my own home and mansion, I have obtained the Lord God. ||2||

ਜੋ ਨਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਉਦਿਆਨੇ ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਹੇ ॥

जो नर भरमि भरमि उदिआने ते साकत मूड़ मुहे ॥

Jo nar bharami bharami udiaane te saakat moo(rr) muhe ||

Those beings who wander in the wilderness of doubt - those faithless cynics are foolish, and are plundered.

ਜਿਉ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਨਾਭਿ ਬਸੈ ਬਾਸੁ ਬਸਨਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਝਾਰ ਗਹੇ ॥੩॥

जिउ म्रिग नाभि बसै बासु बसना भ्रमि भ्रमिओ झार गहे ॥३॥

Jiu mrig naabhi basai baasu basanaa bhrmi bhrmio jhaar gahe ||3||

They are like the deer: the scent of musk comes from its own navel, but it wanders and roams around, searching for it in the bushes. ||3||

ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲਹੇ ॥

तुम वड अगम अगाधि बोधि प्रभ मति देवहु हरि प्रभ लहे ॥

Tum vad agam agaadhi bodhi prbh mati devahu hari prbh lahe ||

You are Great and Unfathomable; Your Wisdom, God, is Profound and Incomprehensible. Please bless me with that wisdom, by which I might attain You, O Lord God.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਰਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ॥੪॥੪॥

जन नानक कउ गुरि हाथु सिरि धरिओ हरि राम नामि रवि रहे ॥४॥४॥

Jan naanak kau guri haathu siri dhario hari raam naami ravi rahe ||4||4||

The Guru has placed His Hand upon servant Nanak; he chants the Name of the Lord. ||4||4||

मनि लागी प्रीति राम नाम हरि हरि जपिओ हरि प्रभु वडफा ॥

Mani laagee preeti raam naam hari hari japio hari prbhu vadaphaa ||

My mind is in love with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; I meditate on the Great Lord God.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਫਾ ॥੧॥

सतिगुर बचन सुखाने हीअरै हरि धारी हरि प्रभ क्रिपफा ॥१॥

Satigur bachan sukhaane heearai hari dhaaree hari prbh kripaphaa ||1||

The Word of the True Guru has become pleasing to my heart. The Lord God has showered me with His Grace. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਖਫਾ ॥

मेरे मन भजु राम नाम हरि निमखफा ॥

Mere man bhaju raam naam hari nimakhaphaa ||

O my mind, vibrate and meditate on the Lord's Name every instant.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸਫਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हरि दानु दीओ गुरि पूरै हरि नामा मनि तनि बसफा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari daanu deeo guri poorai hari naamaa mani tani basaphaa ||1|| rahaau ||

The Perfect Guru has blessed me with the gift of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The Lord's Name abides in my mind and body. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰਿ ਵਸਿਓ ਘਰਿ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਪਫਾ ॥

काइआ नगरि वसिओ घरि मंदरि जपि सोभा गुरमुखि करपफा ॥

Kaaiaa nagari vasio ghari manddari japi sobhaa guramukhi karapaphaa ||

The Lord abides in the body-village, in my home and mansion. As Gurmukh, I meditate on His Glory.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਜਨ ਭਏ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਰਫਾ ॥੨॥

हलति पलति जन भए सुहेले मुख ऊजल गुरमुखि तरफा ॥२॥

Halati palati jan bhae suhele mukh ujal guramukhi taraphaa ||2||

Here and hereafter, the Lord's humble servants are embellished and exalted; their faces are radiant; as Gurmukh, they are carried across. ||2||

ਅਨਭਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਮਖਫਾ ॥

अनभउ हरि हरि हरि लिव लागी हरि उर धारिओ गुरि निमखफा ॥

Anabhau hari hari hari liv laagee hari ur dhaario guri nimakhaphaa ||

I am lovingly attuned to the Fearless Lord, Har, Har, Har; through the Guru, I have enshrined the Lord within my heart in an instant.

ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੇ ਦੋਖ ਸਭ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਇਕ ਪਲਫਾ ॥੩॥

कोटि कोटि के दोख सभ जन के हरि दूरि कीए इक पलफा ॥३॥

Koti koti ke dokh sabh jan ke hari doori keee ik palaphaa ||3||

Millions upon millions of the faults and mistakes of the Lord's humble servant are all taken away in an instant. ||3||

ਤੁਮਰੇ ਜਨ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਜਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਜਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਖਫਾ ॥

तुमरे जन तुम ही ते जाने प्रभ जानिओ जन ते मुखफा ॥

Tumare jan tum hee te jaane prbh jaanio jan te mukhaphaa ||

Your humble servants are known only through You, God; knowing You, they becomes supreme.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਧਰਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਇਕਫਾ ॥੪॥੫॥

हरि हरि आपु धरिओ हरि जन महि जन नानकु हरि प्रभु इकफा ॥४॥५॥

Hari hari aapu dhario hari jan mahi jan naanaku hari prbhu ikaphaa ||4||5||

The Lord, Har, Har, has enshrined Himself within His humble servant. O Nanak, the Lord God and His servant are one and the same. ||4||5||

ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਮੁਏ ਜੀਵੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਭਾ ॥

गुर सतिगुरि नामु द्रिड़ाइओ हरि हरि हम मुए जीवे हरि जपिभा ॥

Gur satiguri naamu dri(rr)aaio hari hari ham mue jeeve hari japibhaa ||

The Guru, the True Guru, has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord within me. I was dead, but chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I have been brought back to life.

ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਬਾਹ ਦੇਇ ਕਢਿਭਾ ॥੧॥

धनु धंनु गुरू गुरु सतिगुरु पूरा बिखु डुबदे बाह देइ कढिभा ॥१॥

Dhanu dhannu guroo guru satiguru pooraa bikhu dubade baah dei kadhibhaa ||1||

Blessed, blessed is the Guru, the Guru, the Perfect True Guru; He reached out to me with His Arm, and pulled me up and out of the ocean of poison. ||1||

ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਧਾਂਭਾ ॥

जपि मन राम नामु अरधांभा ॥

Japi man raam naamu aradhaambhaa ||

O mind,meditate and worship the Lord's Name.

ਉਪਜੰਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਤਹੂ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਾਭਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

उपज्मपि उपाइ न पाईऐ कतहू गुरि पूरै हरि प्रभु लाभा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Upajamppi upaai na paaeeai katahoo guri poorai hari prbhu laabhaa ||1|| rahaau ||

God is never found, even by making all sorts of new efforts. The Lord God is obtained only through the Perfect Guru. ||1|| Pause ||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸੁ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸਭਾ ॥

राम नामु रसु राम रसाइणु रसु पीआ गुरमति रसभा ॥

Raam naamu rasu raam rasaai(nn)u rasu peeaa guramati rasabhaa ||

The Sublime Essence of the Lord's Name is the source of nectar and bliss; drinking in this Sublime Essence, following the Guru's Teachings, I have become happy.

ਲੋਹ ਮਨੂਰ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿਭਾ ॥੨॥

लोह मनूर कंचनु मिलि संगति हरि उर धारिओ गुरि हरिभा ॥२॥

Loh manoor kancchanu mili sanggati hari ur dhaario guri haribhaa ||2||

Even iron slag is transformed into gold, joining the Lord's Congregation. Through the Guru, the Lord's Light is enshrined within the heart. ||2||

ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਨਿਤ ਲੋਭਿ ਲੁਭਾਨੇ ਪੁਤ ਕਲਤ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੁਭਿਭਾ ॥

हउमै बिखिआ नित लोभि लुभाने पुत कलत मोहि लुभिभा ॥

Haumai bikhiaa nit lobhi lubhaane put kalat mohi lubhibhaa ||

Those who are continually lured by greed, egotism and corruption, who are lured away by emotional attachment to their children and spouse

ਤਿਨ ਪਗ ਸੰਤ ਨ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਤੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂੰਭਰ ਭਰਭਾ ॥੩॥

तिन पग संत न सेवे कबहू ते मनमुख भू्मभर भरभा ॥३॥

Tin pag santt na seve kabahoo te manamukh bhoombbhar bharabhaa ||3||

ਤੁਮਰੇ ਗੁਨ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਹਮ ਪਰੇ ਹਾਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਨਭਾ ॥

तुमरे गुन तुम ही प्रभ जानहु हम परे हारि तुम सरनभा ॥

Tumare gun tum hee prbh jaanahu ham pare haari tum saranabhaa ||

O God, You alone know Your Glorious Virtues; I have grown weary - I seek Your Sanctuary.

ਜਿਉ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੁਮਨਭਾ ॥੪॥੬॥ ਛਕਾ ੧ ॥

जिउ जानहु तिउ राखहु सुआमी जन नानकु दासु तुमनभा ॥४॥६॥ छका १ ॥

प्रभ की सेवा जन की सोभा ॥

Prbh kee sevaa jan kee sobhaa ||

Serving God, His humble servant is glorified.

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਿਟੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਲੋਭਾ ॥

काम क्रोध मिटे तिसु लोभा ॥

Kaam krodh mite tisu lobhaa ||

Unfulfilled sexual desire, unresolved anger and unsatisfied greed are eradicated.

ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਭੰਡਾਰਿ ॥

नामु तेरा जन कै भंडारि ॥

Naamu teraa jan kai bhanddaari ||

Your Name is the treasure of Your humble servant.

ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧॥

गुन गावहि प्रभ दरस पिआरि ॥१॥

Gun gaavahi prbh daras piaari ||1||

Singing His Praises, I am in love with the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan. ||1||

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਜਨਾਈ ॥

तुमरी भगति प्रभ तुमहि जनाई ॥

Tumaree bhagati prbh tumahi janaaee ||

You are known, O God, by Your devotees.

ਕਾਟਿ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਜਨ ਲੀਏ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

काटि जेवरी जन लीए छडाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kaati jevaree jan leee chhadaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Breaking their bonds, You emancipate them. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

जो जनु राता प्रभ कै रंगि ॥

Jo janu raataa prbh kai ranggi ||

Those humble beings who are imbued with God's Love

ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

तिनि सुखु पाइआ प्रभ कै संगि ॥

Tini sukhu paaiaa prbh kai sanggi ||

Find peace in God's Congregation.

ਜਿਸੁ ਰਸੁ ਆਇਆ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

जिसु रसु आइआ सोई जानै ॥

Jisu rasu aaiaa soee jaanai ||

They alone understand this, to whom this subtle essence comes.

ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਹੈਰਾਨੈ ॥੨॥

पेखि पेखि मन महि हैरानै ॥२॥

Pekhi pekhi man mahi hairaanai ||2||

Beholding it, and gazing upon it, in their minds they are wonderstruck. ||2||

ਸੋ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਤਮੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

सो सुखीआ सभ ते ऊतमु सोइ ॥

So sukheeaa sabh te utamu soi ||

They are at peace, the most exalted of all,

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

जा कै ह्रिदै वसिआ प्रभु सोइ ॥

Jaa kai hridai vasiaa prbhu soi ||

Within whose hearts God dwells.

ਸੋਈ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

सोई निहचलु आवै न जाइ ॥

Soee nihachalu aavai na jaai ||

They are stable and unchanging; they do not come and go in reincarnation.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੩॥

अनदिनु प्रभ के हरि गुण गाइ ॥३॥

Anadinu prbh ke hari gu(nn) gaai ||3||

Night and day, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord God. ||3||

ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ॥

ता कउ करहु सगल नमसकारु ॥

Taa kau karahu sagal namasakaaru ||

All bow down in humble respect to those

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

जा कै मनि पूरनु निरंकारु ॥

Jaa kai mani pooranu nirankkaaru ||

Whose minds are filled with the Formless Lord.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥

करि किरपा मोहि ठाकुर देवा ॥

Kari kirapaa mohi thaakur devaa ||

Show mercy unto me, O my Divine Lord and Master.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

नानकु उधरै जन की सेवा ॥४॥२॥

Naanaku udharai jan kee sevaa ||4||2||

May Nanak be saved, by serving these humble beings. ||4||2||

Gun gaavat mani hoi anandd ||

Singing His Glorious Praises, the mind is in ecstasy.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥

आठ पहर सिमरउ भगवंत ॥

Aath pahar simarau bhagavantt ||

Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate in remembrance on God.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕਲਮਲ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि कलमल जाहि ॥

Jaa kai simarani kalamal jaahi ||

Remembering Him in meditation, the sins go away.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਹਮ ਚਰਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

तिसु गुर की हम चरनी पाहि ॥१॥

Tisu gur kee ham charanee paahi ||1||

I fall at the Feet of that Guru. ||1||

ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

सुमति देवहु संत पिआरे ॥

Sumati devahu santt piaare ||

O beloved Saints, please bless me with wisdom;

ਸਿਮਰਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सिमरउ नामु मोहि निसतारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Simarau naamu mohi nisataare ||1|| rahaau ||

Let me meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and be emancipated. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸੀਧਾ ॥

जिनि गुरि कहिआ मारगु सीधा ॥

Jini guri kahiaa maaragu seedhaa ||

The Guru has shown me the straight path;

ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੀਧਾ ॥

सगल तिआगि नामि हरि गीधा ॥

Sagal tiaagi naami hari geedhaa ||

I have abandoned everything else. I am enraptured with the Name of the Lord.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥

तिसु गुर कै सदा बलि जाईऐ ॥

Tisu gur kai sadaa bali jaaeeai ||

I am forever a sacrifice to that Guru;

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

हरि सिमरनु जिसु गुर ते पाईऐ ॥२॥

Hari simaranu jisu gur te paaeeai ||2||

I meditate in remembrance on the Lord, through the Guru. ||2||

ਬੂਡਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥

बूडत प्रानी जिनि गुरहि तराइआ ॥

Boodat praanee jini gurahi taraaiaa ||

The Guru carries those mortal beings across, and saves them from drowning.

ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋਹੈ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

जिसु प्रसादि मोहै नही माइआ ॥

Jisu prsaadi mohai nahee maaiaa ||

By His Grace, they are not enticed by Maya;

ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥

हलतु पलतु जिनि गुरहि सवारिआ ॥

Halatu palatu jini gurahi savaariaa ||

In this world and the next, they are embellished and exalted by the Guru.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੩॥

तिसु गुर ऊपरि सदा हउ वारिआ ॥३॥

Tisu gur upari sadaa hau vaariaa ||3||

I am forever a sacrifice to that Guru. ||3||

ਮਹਾ ਮੁਗਧ ਤੇ ਕੀਆ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥

महा मुगध ते कीआ गिआनी ॥

Mahaa mugadh te keeaa giaanee ||

From the most ignorant, I have been made spiritually wise,

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥

गुर पूरे की अकथ कहानी ॥

Gur poore kee akath kahaanee ||

Through the Unspoken Speech of the Perfect Guru.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

पारब्रहम नानक गुरदेव ॥

Paarabrham naanak guradev ||

The Divine Guru, O Nanak, is the Supreme Lord God.

ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵ ॥੪॥੩॥

वडै भागि पाईऐ हरि सेव ॥४॥३॥

Vadai bhaagi paaeeai hari sev ||4||3||

By great good fortune, I serve the Lord. ||4||3||

सगले दूख मिटे सुख दीए अपना नामु जपाइआ ॥

Sagale dookh mite sukh deee apanaa naamu japaaiaa ||

Eradicating all my pains, He has blessed me with peace, and inspired me to chant His Name.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

करि किरपा अपनी सेवा लाए सगला दुरतु मिटाइआ ॥१॥

Kari kirapaa apanee sevaa laae sagalaa duratu mitaaiaa ||1||

In His Mercy, He has enjoined me to His service, and has purged me of all my sins. ||1||

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ॥

हम बारिक सरनि प्रभ दइआल ॥

Ham baarik sarani prbh daiaal ||

I am only a child; I seek the Sanctuary of God the Merciful.

ਅਵਗਣ ਕਾਟਿ ਕੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਮੇਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अवगण काटि कीए प्रभि अपुने राखि लीए मेरै गुर गोपालि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Avaga(nn) kaati keee prbhi apune raakhi leee merai gur gopaali ||1|| rahaau ||

Erasing my demerits and faults, God has made me His Own. My Guru, the Lord of the World, protects me. ||1|| Pause ||

ਤਾਪ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥

ताप पाप बिनसे खिन भीतरि भए क्रिपाल गुसाई ॥

Taap paap binase khin bheetari bhae kripaal gusaaee ||

My sicknesses and sins were erased in an instant, when the Lord of the World became merciful.

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਅਰਾਧੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥

सासि सासि पारब्रहमु अराधी अपुने सतिगुर कै बलि जाई ॥२॥

Saasi saasi paarabrhamu araadhee apune satigur kai bali jaaee ||2||

With each and very breath, I worship and adore the Supreme Lord God; I am a sacrifice to the True Guru. ||2||

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਬਿਅੰਤੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

अगम अगोचरु बिअंतु सुआमी ता का अंतु न पाईऐ ॥

Agam agocharu bianttu suaamee taa kaa anttu na paaeeai ||

My Lord and Master is Inaccessible, Unfathomable and Infinite. His limits cannot be found.

ਲਾਹਾ ਖਾਟਿ ਹੋਈਐ ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੩॥

लाहा खाटि होईऐ धनवंता अपुना प्रभू धिआईऐ ॥३॥

Laahaa khaati hoeeai dhanavanttaa apunaa prbhoo dhiaaeeai ||3||

We earn the profit, and become wealthy, meditating on our God. ||3||

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇਆ ॥

आठ पहर पारब्रहमु धिआई सदा सदा गुन गाइआ ॥

Aath pahar paarabrhamu dhiaaee sadaa sadaa gun gaaiaa ||

Twenty-four hours a day, I meditate on the Supreme Lord God; I sing His Glorious Praises forever and ever.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥

कहु नानक मेरे पूरे मनोरथ पारब्रहमु गुरु पाइआ ॥४॥४॥

Kahu naanak mere poore manorath paarabrhamu guru paaiaa ||4||4||

Says Nanak, my desires have been fulfilled; I have found my Guru, the Supreme Lord God. ||4||4||

Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, all my sins have been erased.

ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਰਾਸੇ ॥

सचु नामु गुरि दीनी रासे ॥

Sachu naamu guri deenee raase ||

The Guru has blessed me with the Capital of the True Name.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੇ ॥

प्रभ की दरगह सोभावंते ॥

Prbh kee daragah sobhaavantte ||

God's servants are embellished and exalted in His Court;

ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹੰਤੇ ॥੧॥

सेवक सेवि सदा सोहंते ॥१॥

Sevak sevi sadaa sohantte ||1||

Serving Him, they look beauteous forever. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

हरि हरि नामु जपहु मेरे भाई ॥

Hari hari naamu japahu mere bhaaee ||

Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਸਗਲੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੋਖ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सगले रोग दोख सभि बिनसहि अगिआनु अंधेरा मन ते जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sagale rog dokh sabhi binasahi agiaanu anddheraa man te jaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

All sickness and sin shall be erased; your mind shall be rid of the darkness of ignorance. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਮੀਤ ॥

जनम मरन गुरि राखे मीत ॥

Janam maran guri raakhe meet ||

The Guru has saved me from death and rebirth, O friend;

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

हरि के नाम सिउ लागी प्रीति ॥

Hari ke naam siu laagee preeti ||

I am in love with the Name of the Lord.

ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਗਏ ਕਲੇਸ ॥

कोटि जनम के गए कलेस ॥

Koti janam ke gae kales ||

The suffering of millions of incarnations is gone;

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਭਲ ਹੋਸ ॥੨॥

जो तिसु भावै सो भल होस ॥२॥

Jo tisu bhaavai so bhal hos ||2||

Whatever pleases Him is good. ||2||

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

तिसु गुर कउ हउ सद बलि जाई ॥

Tisu gur kau hau sad bali jaaee ||

I am forever a sacrifice to the Guru;

ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥

जिसु प्रसादि हरि नामु धिआई ॥

Jisu prsaadi hari naamu dhiaaee ||

By His Grace, I meditate on the Lord's Name.

ਐਸਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥

ऐसा गुरु पाईऐ वडभागी ॥

Aisaa guru paaeeai vadabhaagee ||

By great good fortune, such a Guru is found;

ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੩॥

जिसु मिलते राम लिव लागी ॥३॥

Jisu milate raam liv laagee ||3||

Meeting Him, one is lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||3||

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

करि किरपा पारब्रहम सुआमी ॥

Kari kirapaa paarabrham suaamee ||

Please be merciful, O Supreme Lord God, O Lord and Master,

ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥

सगल घटा के अंतरजामी ॥

Sagal ghataa ke anttarajaamee ||

Inner-knower, Searcher of Hearts.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

Aath pahar apunee liv laai ||

Twenty-four hours a day, I am lovingly attuned to You.

भै बिनसे उतरी सभ चिंद ॥१॥

Bhai binase utaree sabh chindd ||1||

Fear is dispelled, and all anxiety has been alleviated. ||1||

ਉਬਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਾਗਿ ॥

उबरे सतिगुर चरनी लागि ॥

Ubare satigur charanee laagi ||

I have been saved, touching the Feet of the True Guru.

ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जो गुरु कहै सोई भल मीठा मन की मति तिआगि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jo guru kahai soee bhal meethaa man kee mati tiaagi ||1|| rahaau ||

Whatever the Guru says is good and sweet to me. I have renounced the intellectual wisdom of my mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

मनि तनि वसिआ हरि प्रभु सोई ॥

Mani tani vasiaa hari prbhu soee ||

That Lord God abides within my mind and body.

ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

कलि कलेस किछु बिघनु न होई ॥

Kali kales kichhu bighanu na hoee ||

There are no conflicts, pains or obstacles.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

सदा सदा प्रभु जीअ कै संगि ॥

Sadaa sadaa prbhu jeea kai sanggi ||

Forever and ever, God is with my soul.

ਉਤਰੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥

उतरी मैलु नाम कै रंगि ॥२॥

Utaree mailu naam kai ranggi ||2||

Filth and pollution are washed away by the Love of the Name. ||2||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

चरन कमल सिउ लागो पिआरु ॥

Charan kamal siu laago piaaru ||

I am in love with the Lotus Feet of the Lord;

ਬਿਨਸੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥

बिनसे काम क्रोध अहंकार ॥

Binase kaam krodh ahankkaar ||

I am no longer consumed by sexual desire, anger and egotism.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਨ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਜਾਨਾਂ ॥

प्रभ मिलन का मारगु जानां ॥

Prbh milan kaa maaragu jaanaan ||

Now, I know the way to meet God.

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਾਂ ॥੩॥

भाइ भगति हरि सिउ मनु मानां ॥३॥

Bhaai bhagati hari siu manu maanaan ||3||

Through loving devotional worship, my mind is pleased and appeased with the Lord. ||3||

ਸੁਣਿ ਸਜਣ ਸੰਤ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥

सुणि सजण संत मीत सुहेले ॥

Su(nn)i saja(nn) santt meet suhele ||

Listen, O friends, Saints, my exalted companions.

ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਹ ਅਤੋਲੇ ॥

नामु रतनु हरि अगह अतोले ॥

Naamu ratanu hari agah atole ||

The Jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is unfathomable and immeasurable.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥

सदा सदा प्रभु गुण निधि गाईऐ ॥

Sadaa sadaa prbhu gu(nn) nidhi gaaeeai ||

Forever and ever, sing the Glories of God, the Treasure of Virtue.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੬॥

कहु नानक वडभागी पाईऐ ॥४॥६॥

Kahu naanak vadabhaagee paaeeai ||4||6||

Says Nanak, by great good fortune, He is found. ||4||6||
