Raag Nat Naaraayan, Fourth Mehl:

ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सति नामु करता पुरखु निरभउ निरवैरु अकाल मूरति अजूनी सैभं गुरप्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari sati naamu karataa purakhu nirabhau niravairu akaal moorati ajoonee saibhann guraprsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace:

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਜਪਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੇ ॥

मेरे मन जपि अहिनिसि नामु हरे ॥

Mere man japi ahinisi naamu hare ||

O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, day and night.

ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਦੋਖ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਨੇ ਸਭ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਧਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कोटि कोटि दोख बहु कीने सभ परहरि पासि धरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Koti koti dokh bahu keene sabh parahari paasi dhare ||1|| rahaau ||

Millions and millions of sins and mistakes, committed through countless lifetimes, shall all be put aside and sent away. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹਿ ਆਰਾਧਹਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਖਰੇ ॥

हरि हरि नामु जपहि आराधहि सेवक भाइ खरे ॥

Hari hari naamu japahi aaraadhahi sevak bhaai khare ||

Those who chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and worship Him in adoration, and serve Him with love, are genuine.

ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੋਖ ਗਏ ਸਭ ਨੀਕਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਪਾਨੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥

किलबिख दोख गए सभ नीकरि जिउ पानी मैलु हरे ॥१॥

Kilabikh dokh gae sabh neekari jiu paanee mailu hare ||1||

All their sins are erased, just as water washes off the dirt. ||1||

ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਰੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਨੁ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਨਰ ਨਰਹਰੇ ॥

खिनु खिनु नरु नाराइनु गावहि मुखि बोलहि नर नरहरे ॥

Khinu khinu naru naaraainu gaavahi mukhi bolahi nar narahare ||

That being, who sings the Lord's Praises each and every instant, chants with his mouth the Name of the Lord.

ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਅਸਾਧ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੨॥

पंच दोख असाध नगर महि इकु खिनु पलु दूरि करे ॥२॥

Pancch dokh asaadh nagar mahi iku khinu palu doori kare ||2||

In a moment, in an instant, the Lord rids him of the five incurable diseases of the body-village. ||2||

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਰੇ ॥

वडभागी हरि नामु धिआवहि हरि के भगत हरे ॥

Vadabhaagee hari naamu dhiaavahi hari ke bhagat hare ||

Very fortunate are those who meditate on the Lord's Name; they alone are the Lord's devotees.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਚਉ ਮੈ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਨਿਸਤਰੇ ॥੩॥

तिन की संगति देहि प्रभ जाचउ मै मूड़ मुगध निसतरे ॥३॥

Tin kee sanggati dehi prbh jaachau mai moo(rr) mugadh nisatare ||3||

I beg for the Sangat, the Congregation; O God, please bless me with them. I am a fool, and an idiot - please save me! ||3||

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੇ ॥

क्रिपा क्रिपा धारि जगजीवन रखि लेवहु सरनि परे ॥

Kripaa kripaa dhaari jagajeevan rakhi levahu sarani pare ||

Shower me with Your Mercy and Grace, O Life of the World; save me, I seek Your Sanctuary.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸਰਨਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਲਾਜ ਹਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥

नानकु जनु तुमरी सरनाई हरि राखहु लाज हरे ॥४॥१॥

Naanaku janu tumaree saranaaee hari raakhahu laaj hare ||4||1||

Servant Nanak has entered Your Sanctuary; O Lord, please preserve my honor! ||4||1||

Nat, Fourth Mehl:

ਰਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਜਨ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਲੇ ॥

राम जपि जन रामै नामि रले ॥

Raam japi jan raamai naami rale ||

Meditating on the Lord, His humble servants are blended with the Lord's Name.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

राम नामु जपिओ गुर बचनी हरि धारी हरि क्रिपले ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Raam naamu japio gur bachanee hari dhaaree hari kripale ||1|| rahaau ||

Chanting the Lord's Name, following the Guru's Teachings, the Lord showers His Mercy upon them. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਨ ਜਪਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਲਲ ਸਲਲੇ ॥

हरि हरि अगम अगोचरु सुआमी जन जपि मिलि सलल सलले ॥

Hari hari agam agocharu suaamee jan japi mili salal salale ||

Our Lord and Master, Har, Har, is inaccessible and unfathomable. Meditating on Him, His humble servant merges with Him, like water with water.

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਮ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਲੇ ॥੧॥

हरि के संत मिलि राम रसु पाइआ हम जन कै बलि बलले ॥१॥

Hari ke santt mili raam rasu paaiaa ham jan kai bali balale ||1||

Meeting with the Lord's Saints, I have obtained the sublime essence of the Lord. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to His humble servants. ||1||

ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨਿ ਗਾਇਓ ਸਭਿ ਦਾਲਦ ਦੁਖ ਦਲਲੇ ॥

पुरखोतमु हरि नामु जनि गाइओ सभि दालद दुख दलले ॥

Purakhotamu hari naamu jani gaaio sabhi daalad dukh dalale ||

The Lord's humble servant sings the Praises of the Name of the Supreme, Primal Soul, and all poverty and pain are destroyed.

ਵਿਚਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਦੋਖ ਅਸਾਧ ਪੰਚ ਧਾਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਖਿਨ ਪਰਲੇ ॥੨॥

विचि देही दोख असाध पंच धातू हरि कीए खिन परले ॥२॥

Vichi dehee dokh asaadh pancch dhaatoo hari keee khin parale ||2||

Within the body are the five evil and uncontrollable passions. The Lord destroys them in an instant. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਜਿਉ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਸਿ ਕਮਲੇ ॥

हरि के संत मनि प्रीति लगाई जिउ देखै ससि कमले ॥

Hari ke santt mani preeti lagaaee jiu dekhai sasi kamale ||

The Lord's Saint loves the Lord in his mind, like the lotus flower gazing at the moon.

ਉਨਵੈ ਘਨੁ ਘਨ ਘਨਿਹਰੁ ਗਰਜੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮੋਰ ਮੁਰਲੇ ॥੩॥

उनवै घनु घन घनिहरु गरजै मनि बिगसै मोर मुरले ॥३॥

Unavai ghanu ghan ghaniharu garajai mani bigasai mor murale ||3||

The clouds hang low, the clouds tremble with thunder, and the mind dances joyfully like the peacock. ||3||

ਹਮਰੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਲੋਚ ਹਮ ਲਾਈ ਹਮ ਜੀਵਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ॥

हमरै सुआमी लोच हम लाई हम जीवह देखि हरि मिले ॥

Hamarai suaamee loch ham laaee ham jeevah dekhi hari mile ||

My Lord and Master has placed this yearning within me; I live by seeing and meeting my Lord.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਅਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਅਨਦ ਭਲੇ ॥੪॥੨॥

जन नानक हरि अमल हरि लाए हरि मेलहु अनद भले ॥४॥२॥

Jan naanak hari amal hari laae hari melahu anad bhale ||4||2||

Servant Nanak is addicted to the intoxication of the Lord; meeting with the Lord, he finds sublime bliss. ||4||2||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖੇ ॥

मेरे मन जपि हरि हरि नामु सखे ॥

Mere man japi hari hari naamu sakhe ||

O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, your only Friend.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਪਖੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर परसादी हरि नामु धिआइओ हम सतिगुर चरन पखे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur parasaadee hari naamu dhiaaio ham satigur charan pakhe ||1|| rahaau ||

By Guru's Grace, I meditate on the Name of the Lord; I wash the Feet of the True Guru. ||1|| Pause ||

ਊਤਮ ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਰਖੇ ॥

ऊतम जगंनाथ जगदीसुर हम पापी सरनि रखे ॥

Utam jagannaath jagadeesur ham paapee sarani rakhe ||

The Exalted Lord of the World, the Master of the Universe, keeps a sinner like me in His Sanctuary

ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਓ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਖੇ ॥੧॥

तुम वड पुरख दीन दुख भंजन हरि दीओ नामु मुखे ॥१॥

Tum vad purakh deen dukh bhanjjan hari deeo naamu mukhe ||1||

You are the Greatest Being, Lord, Destroyer of the pains of the meek; You have placed Your Name in my mouth, Lord. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਹਮ ਗਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਖੇ ॥

हरि गुन ऊच नीच हम गाए गुर सतिगुर संगि सखे ॥

Hari gun uch neech ham gaae gur satigur sanggi sakhe ||

I am lowly, but I sing the Lofty Praises of the Lord, meeting with the Guru, the True Guru, my Friend.

ਜਿਉ ਚੰਦਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸੈ ਨਿੰਮੁ ਬਿਰਖਾ ਗੁਨ ਚੰਦਨ ਕੇ ਬਸਖੇ ॥੨॥

जिउ चंदन संगि बसै निमु बिरखा गुन चंदन के बसखे ॥२॥

Jiu chanddan sanggi basai nimmmu birakhaa gun chanddan ke basakhe ||2||

Like the bitter nimm tree, growing near the sandalwood tree, I am permeated with the fragrance of sandalwood. ||2||

ਹਮਰੇ ਅਵਗਨ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਖੈ ਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਨਿਮਖੇ ॥

हमरे अवगन बिखिआ बिखै के बहु बार बार निमखे ॥

Hamare avagan bikhiaa bikhai ke bahu baar baar nimakhe ||

My faults and sins of corruption are countless; over and over again, I commit them.

ਅਵਗਨਿਆਰੇ ਪਾਥਰ ਭਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਨਖੇ ॥੩॥

अवगनिआरे पाथर भारे हरि तारे संगि जनखे ॥३॥

Avaganiaare paathar bhaare hari taare sanggi janakhe ||3||

I am unworthy, I am a heavy stone sinking down; but the Lord has carried me across, in association with His humble servants. ||3||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਭ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਕ੍ਰਿਖੇ ॥

जिन कउ तुम हरि राखहु सुआमी सभ तिन के पाप क्रिखे ॥

Jin kau tum hari raakhahu suaamee sabh tin ke paap krikhe ||

Those whom You save, Lord - all their sins are destroyed.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਮ ਦੁਸਟ ਤਾਰੇ ਹਰਣਖੇ ॥੪॥੩॥

जन नानक के दइआल प्रभ सुआमी तुम दुसट तारे हरणखे ॥४॥३॥

Jan naanak ke daiaal prbh suaamee tum dusat taare hara(nn)akhe ||4||3||

O Merciful God, Lord and Master of servant Nanak, You have carried across even evil villains like Harnaakhash. ||4||3||

Mere man japi hari hari raam rangge ||

O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, with love.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਜਨ ਪਗਿ ਲਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हरि क्रिपा करी जगदीसुरि हरि धिआइओ जन पगि लगे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari kripaa karee jagadeesuri hari dhiaaio jan pagi lage ||1|| rahaau ||

When the Lord of the Universe, Har, Har, granted His Grace, then I fell at the feet of the humble, and I meditate on the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਭੂਲ ਚੂਕ ਹਮ ਅਬ ਆਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨਗੇ ॥

जनम जनम के भूल चूक हम अब आए प्रभ सरनगे ॥

Janam janam ke bhool chook ham ab aae prbh saranage ||

Mistaken and confused for so many past lives, I have now come and entered the Sanctuary of God.

ਤੁਮ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਵਡ ਪਾਪਗੇ ॥੧॥

तुम सरणागति प्रतिपालक सुआमी हम राखहु वड पापगे ॥१॥

Tum sara(nn)aagati prtipaalak suaamee ham raakhahu vad paapage ||1||

O my Lord and Master, You are the Cherisher of those who come to Your Sanctuary. I am such a great sinner - please save me! ||1||

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਕੋ ਨ ਉਧਰਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਏ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਗੇ ॥

तुमरी संगति हरि को को न उधरिओ प्रभ कीए पतित पवगे ॥

Tumaree sanggati hari ko ko na udhario prbh keee patit pavage ||

Associating with You, Lord, who would not be saved? Only God sanctifies the sinners.

ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਛੀਪਾ ਦੁਸਟਾਰਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਪੈਜ ਜਨਗੇ ॥੨॥

गुन गावत छीपा दुसटारिओ प्रभि राखी पैज जनगे ॥२॥

Gun gaavat chheepaa dusataario prbhi raakhee paij janage ||2||

Naam Dayv, the calico printer, was driven out by the evil villains, as he sang Your Glorious Praises; O God, You protected the honor of Your humble servant. ||2||

ਜੋ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਤਿਨਗੇ ॥

जो तुमरे गुन गावहि सुआमी हउ बलि बलि बलि तिनगे ॥

Jo tumare gun gaavahi suaamee hau bali bali bali tinage ||

Those who sing Your Glorious Praises, O my Lord and Master - I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice to them.

ਭਵਨ ਭਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਿ ਕੀਏ ਜਹ ਧੂਰਿ ਪਰੀ ਜਨ ਪਗੇ ॥੩॥

भवन भवन पवित्र सभि कीए जह धूरि परी जन पगे ॥३॥

Bhavan bhavan pavitr sabhi keee jah dhoori paree jan page ||3||

Those houses and homes are sanctified, upon which the dust of the feet of the humble settles. ||3||

ਤੁਮਰੇ ਗੁਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਡਗੇ ॥

तुमरे गुन प्रभ कहि न सकहि हम तुम वड वड पुरख वडगे ॥

Tumare gun prbh kahi na sakahi ham tum vad vad purakh vadage ||

I cannot describe Your Glorious Virtues, God; You are the greatest of the great, O Great Primal Lord God.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਹਮ ਸੇਵਹ ਤੁਮ ਜਨ ਪਗੇ ॥੪॥੪॥

जन नानक कउ दइआ प्रभ धारहु हम सेवह तुम जन पगे ॥४॥४॥

Jan naanak kau daiaa prbh dhaarahu ham sevah tum jan page ||4||4||

Please shower Your Mercy upon servant Nanak, God; I serve at the feet of Your humble servants. ||4||4||

O my mind, believe in and chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਜਗੰਨਾਥਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮ ਬਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जगंनाथि किरपा प्रभि धारी मति गुरमति नाम बने ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jagannaathi kirapaa prbhi dhaaree mati guramati naam bane ||1|| rahaau ||

God,the Master of the Universe,has showered His Mercy upon me, and through the Guru's Teachings, my intellect has been molded by the Naam. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਇਓ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰ ਸੁਨੇ ॥

हरि जन हरि जसु हरि हरि गाइओ उपदेसि गुरू गुर सुने ॥

Hari jan hari jasu hari hari gaaio upadesi guroo gur sune ||

The Lord's humble servant sings the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, listening to the Guru's Teachings.

ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਿਵ ਖੇਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਾਨਿ ਲੁਨੇ ॥੧॥

किलबिख पाप नाम हरि काटे जिव खेत क्रिसानि लुने ॥१॥

Kilabikh paap naam hari kaate jiv khet krisaani lune ||1||

The Lord's Name cuts down all sins, like the farmer cutting down his crops. ||1||

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਹਮ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨੇ ॥

तुमरी उपमा तुम ही प्रभ जानहु हम कहि न सकहि हरि गुने ॥

Tumaree upamaa tum hee prbh jaanahu ham kahi na sakahi hari gune ||

You alone know Your Praises, God; I cannot even describe Your Glorious Virtues, Lord.

ਜੈਸੇ ਤੁਮ ਤੈਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਗੁਨ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ॥੨॥

जैसे तुम तैसे प्रभ तुम ही गुन जानहु प्रभ अपुने ॥२॥

Jaise tum taise prbh tum hee gun jaanahu prbh apune ||2||

You are what You are, God; You alone know Your Glorious Virtues, God. ||2||

ਮਾਇਆ ਫਾਸ ਬੰਧ ਬਹੁ ਬੰਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਖੁਲ ਖੁਲਨੇ ॥

Maaiaa phaas banddh bahu banddhe hari japio khul khulane ||

The mortals are bound by the many bonds of Maya's noose. Meditating on the Lord, the knot is untied

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਤਦੂਐ ਬਾਂਧਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਖਨੇ ॥੩॥

जिउ जल कुंचरु तदूऐ बांधिओ हरि चेतिओ मोख मुखने ॥३॥

Jiu jal kunccharu tadooai baandhio hari chetio mokh mukhane ||3||

like the elephant, which was caught in the water by the crocodile; it remembered the Lord, and chanted the Lord's Name, and was released. ||3||

ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਤੁਮ ਖੋਜਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਜੁਗਨੇ ॥

सुआमी पारब्रहम परमेसरु तुम खोजहु जुग जुगने ॥

Suaamee paarabrham paramesaru tum khojahu jug jugane ||

O my Lord and Master, Supreme Lord God, Transcendent Lord, throughout the ages, mortals search for You.

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਥਾਹ ਪਾਈ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵਡਨੇ ॥੪॥੫॥

तुमरी थाह पाई नही पावै जन नानक के प्रभ वडने ॥४॥५॥

Tumaree thaah paaee nahee paavai jan naanak ke prbh vadane ||4||5||

Your extent cannot be estimated or known, O Great God of servant Nanak. ||4||5||

Mere man kali keerati hari prva(nn)e ||

O my mind,in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga,the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is worthy and commendable.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਾਰੀ ਲਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਣੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हरि दइआलि दइआ प्रभ धारी लगि सतिगुर हरि जपणे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari daiaali daiaa prbh dhaaree lagi satigur hari japa(nn)e ||1|| rahaau ||

When the Merciful Lord God shows kindness and compassion, then one falls at the feet of the True Guru, and meditates on the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਭਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੁੜਣੇ ॥

हरि तुम वड अगम अगोचर सुआमी सभि धिआवहि हरि रुड़णे ॥

Hari tum vad agam agochar suaamee sabhi dhiaavahi hari ru(rr)a(nn)e ||

O my Lord and Master, You are great, inaccessible and unfathomable; all meditate on You, O Beautiful Lord.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੇ ਵਡ ਕਟਾਖ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਣੇ ॥੧॥

जिन कउ तुम्हरे वड कटाख है ते गुरमुखि हरि सिमरणे ॥१॥

Jin kau tumhre vad kataakh hai te guramukhi hari simara(nn)e ||1||

Those whom You view with Your Great Eye of Grace, meditate on You, Lord, and become Gurmukh. ||1||

ਇਹੁ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਕੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਜੁਗਣੇ ॥

इहु परपंचु कीआ प्रभ सुआमी सभु जगजीवनु जुगणे ॥

Ihu parapancchu keeaa prbh suaamee sabhu jagajeevanu juga(nn)e ||

The expanse of this creation is Your work, O God, my Lord and Master, Life of the entire universe, united with all.

ਜਿਉ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਲ ਉਠਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਲਹਰੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਲ ਸਮਣੇ ॥੨॥

जिउ सललै सलल उठहि बहु लहरी मिलि सललै सलल समणे ॥२॥

Jiu salalai salal uthahi bahu laharee mili salalai salal sama(nn)e ||2||

Countless waves rise up from the water, and then they merge into the water again. ||2||

ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਆ ਸੁ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਹਮ ਨਹ ਜਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗਹਣੇ ॥

जो प्रभ कीआ सु तुम ही जानहु हम नह जाणी हरि गहणे ॥

Jo prbh keeaa su tum hee jaanahu ham nah jaa(nn)ee hari gaha(nn)e ||

You alone, God, know whatever You do. O Lord, I do not know.

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਕਉ ਰਿਦ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਹਮ ਕਰਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਮਰਣੇ ॥੩॥

हम बारिक कउ रिद उसतति धारहु हम करह प्रभू सिमरणे ॥३॥

Ham baarik kau rid usatati dhaarahu ham karah prbhoo simara(nn)e ||3||

I am Your child; please enshrine Your Praises within my heart, God, so that I may remember You in meditation. ||3||

ਤੁਮ ਜਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਜੋ ਸੇਵੈ ਸਭ ਫਲਣੇ ॥

तुम जल निधि हरि मान सरोवर जो सेवै सभ फलणे ॥

Tum jal nidhi hari maan sarovar jo sevai sabh phala(nn)e ||

You are the treasure of water, O Lord, the Maansarovar Lake. Whoever serves You receives all fruitful rewards.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਂਛੈ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਣੇ ॥੪॥੬॥

जनु नानकु हरि हरि हरि हरि बांछै हरि देवहु करि क्रिपणे ॥४॥६॥

Janu naanaku hari hari hari hari baanchhai hari devahu kari kripa(nn)e ||4||6||

Servant Nanak longs for the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har; bless him, Lord, with Your Mercy. ||4||6||

Mere man sev saphal hari ghaal ||

O my mind, serve the Lord, and receive the fruits of your rewards.

ਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਗ ਰੇਨ ਰਵਾਲ ॥

ले गुर पग रेन रवाल ॥

Le gur pag ren ravaal ||

Receive the dust of the Guru's feet.

ਸਭਿ ਦਾਲਿਦ ਭੰਜਿ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਲ ॥

सभि दालिद भंजि दुख दाल ॥

Sabhi daalid bhanjji dukh daal ||

All poverty will be eliminated, and your pains will disappear.

ਹਰਿ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हो हो हो नदरि निहाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

The Lord shall bless you with His Glance of Grace, and you shall be enraptured. ||1|| Pause ||

हरि का ग्रिहु हरि आपि सवारिओ हरि रंग रंग महल बेअंत लाल लाल हरि लाल ॥

Hari kaa grihu hari aapi savaario hari rangg rangg mahal beantt laal laal hari laal ||

The Lord Himself embellishes His household. The Lord's Mansion of Love is studded with countless jewels, the jewels of the Beloved Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਇਓ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀਈ ਹੈ ਬਸੀਠੀ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖੇ ਭਈ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥

हरि आपनी क्रिपा करी आपि ग्रिहि आइओ हम हरि की गुर कीई है बसीठी हम हरि देखे भई निहाल निहाल निहाल निहाल ॥१॥

Hari aapanee kripaa karee aapi grihi aaio ham hari kee gur keeee hai baseethee ham hari dekhe bhaee nihaal nihaal nihaal nihaal ||1||

The Lord Himself has granted His Grace, and He has come into my home.The Guru is my advocate before the Lord. Gazing upon the Lord, I have become blissful, blissful, blissful. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਆਵਤੇ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਆਨਦੋ ਆਨੰਦ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਆਵਤੇ ਸੁਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਲ ॥

हरि आवते की खबरि गुरि पाई मनि तनि आनदो आनंद भए हरि आवते सुने मेरे लाल हरि लाल ॥

Hari aavate kee khabari guri paaee mani tani aanado aanandd bhae hari aavate sune mere laal hari laal ||

From the Guru, I received news of the Lord's arrival. My mind and body became ecstatic and blissful, hearing of the arrival of the Lord, my Beloved Love, my Lord.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਭਏ ਗਲਤਾਨ ਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥੧॥੭॥

जनु नानकु हरि हरि मिले भए गलतान हाल निहाल निहाल ॥२॥१॥७॥

Janu naanaku hari hari mile bhae galataan haal nihaal nihaal ||2||1||7||

Servant Nanak has met with the Lord, Har, Har; he is intoxicated, enraptured, enraptured. ||2||1||7||

O mind, join the Society of the Saints, and become noble and exalted.

सुनि अकथ कथा सुखवंती ॥

Suni akath kathaa sukhavanttee ||

Listen to the Unspoken Speech of the peace-giving Lord.

ਸਭ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਲਹੰਤੀ ॥

सभ किलबिख पाप लहंती ॥

Sabh kilabikh paap lahanttee ||

All sins will be washed away.

ਹਰਿ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਲਿਖੰਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि कीरति कलजुग विचि ऊतम मति गुरमति कथा भजंती ॥

Hari keerati kalajug vichi utam mati guramati kathaa bhajanttee ||

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is lofty and exalted. Following the Guru's Teachings, the intellect dwells on the sermon of the Lord.

ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਮਨੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੰਤੀ ॥੧॥

जिनि जनि सुणी मनी है जिनि जनि तिसु जन कै हउ कुरबानंती ॥१॥

Jini jani su(nn)ee manee hai jini jani tisu jan kai hau kurabaananttee ||1||

I am a sacrifice to that person who listens and believes. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਕਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਸਭ ਭੂਖ ਲਹੰਤੀ ॥

हरि अकथ कथा का जिनि रसु चाखिआ तिसु जन सभ भूख लहंती ॥

Hari akath kathaa kaa jini rasu chaakhiaa tisu jan sabh bhookh lahanttee ||

One who tastes the sublime essence of the Unspoken Speech of the Lord - all his hunger is satisfied.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੇ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਵੰਤੀ ॥੨॥੨॥੮॥

नानक जन हरि कथा सुणि त्रिपते जपि हरि हरि हरि होवंती ॥२॥२॥८॥

Naanak jan hari kathaa su(nn)i tripate japi hari hari hari hovanttee ||2||2||8||

Servant Nanak listens to the sermon of the Lord, and is satisfied; chanting the Lord's Name, Har, Har, Har, he has become like the Lord. ||2||2||8||

Koee aani sunaavai hari kee hari gaal ||

If only someone would come and tell me the Lord's sermon.

ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਾਲ ॥

तिस कउ हउ बलि बलि बाल ॥

Tis kau hau bali bali baal ||

I would be a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice to him.

ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਹੈ ਭਲ ਭਾਲ ॥

सो हरि जनु है भल भाल ॥

So hari janu hai bhal bhaal ||

That humble servant of the Lord is the best of the best.

हरि का मारगु गुर संति बताइओ गुरि चाल दिखाई हरि चाल ॥

Hari kaa maaragu gur santti bataaio guri chaal dikhaaee hari chaal ||

The Guru, the Saint, has shown me the Lord's Path. The Guru has shown me the way to walk on the Lord's Path.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੁ ਨਿਹਕਪਟ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਘਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥

अंतरि कपटु चुकावहु मेरे गुरसिखहु निहकपट कमावहु हरि की हरि घाल निहाल निहाल निहाल ॥१॥

Anttari kapatu chukaavahu mere gurasikhahu nihakapat kamaavahu hari kee hari ghaal nihaal nihaal nihaal ||1||

Cast out deception from within yourself, O my Gursikhs, and without deception, serve the Lord. You shall be enraptured, enraptured, enraptured. ||1||

ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਸਿਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਭਾਏ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

ते गुर के सिख मेरे हरि प्रभि भाए जिना हरि प्रभु जानिओ मेरा नालि ॥

Te gur ke sikh mere hari prbhi bhaae jinaa hari prbhu jaanio meraa naali ||

Those Sikhs of the Guru, who realize that my Lord God is with them, are pleasing to my Lord God.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥੩॥੯॥

जन नानक कउ मति हरि प्रभि दीनी हरि देखि निकटि हदूरि निहाल निहाल निहाल निहाल ॥२॥३॥९॥

Jan naanak kau mati hari prbhi deenee hari dekhi nikati hadoori nihaal nihaal nihaal nihaal ||2||3||9||

The Lord God has blessed servant Nanak with understanding; seeing his Lord hear at hand, his is enraptured, enraptured, enraptured, enraptured. ||2||3||9||

O Lord, how can I know what pleases You?

ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਰਸਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मनि पिआस बहुतु दरसावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Mani piaas bahutu darasaavai ||1|| rahaau ||

Within my mind is such a great thirst for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੋਈ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਰੁਚ ਆਵੈ ॥

सोई गिआनी सोई जनु तेरा जिसु ऊपरि रुच आवै ॥

Soee giaanee soee janu teraa jisu upari ruch aavai ||

He alone is a spiritual teacher, and he alone is Your humble servant, to whom You have given Your approval.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਸੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥੧॥

क्रिपा करहु जिसु पुरख बिधाते सो सदा सदा तुधु धिआवै ॥१॥

Kripaa karahu jisu purakh bidhaate so sadaa sadaa tudhu dhiaavai ||1||

He alone meditates on You forever and ever, O Primal Lord, O Architect of Destiny, unto whom You grant Your Grace. ||1||

ਕਵਨ ਜੋਗ ਕਵਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨਾ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨੀ ਰੀਝਾਵੈ ॥

कवन जोग कवन गिआन धिआना कवन गुनी रीझावै ॥

Kavan jog kavan giaan dhiaanaa kavan gunee reejhaavai ||

What sort of Yoga, what spiritual wisdom and meditation, and what virtues please You?

ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਜ ਭਗਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

सोई जनु सोई निज भगता जिसु ऊपरि रंगु लावै ॥२॥

Soee janu soee nij bhagataa jisu upari ranggu laavai ||2||

He alone is a humble servant, and he alone is God's own devotee, with whom You are in love. ||2||

ਸਾਈ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਈ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰਾਵੈ ॥

साई मति साई बुधि सिआनप जितु निमख न प्रभु बिसरावै ॥

Saaee mati saaee budhi siaanap jitu nimakh na prbhu bisaraavai ||

That alone is intelligence, that alone is wisdom and cleverness, which inspires one to never forget God, even for an instant.

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲਗਿ ਏਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

संतसंगि लगि एहु सुखु पाइओ हरि गुन सद ही गावै ॥३॥

Santtasanggi lagi ehu sukhu paaio hari gun sad hee gaavai ||3||

Joining the Society of the Saints, I have found this peace, singing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||

ਦੇਖਿਓ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਮਹਾ ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਨ ਨਹੀ ਦਿਸਟਾਵੈ ॥

देखिओ अचरजु महा मंगल रूप किछु आन नही दिसटावै ॥

I have seen the Wondrous Lord, the embodiment of supreme bliss, and now, I see nothing else at all.

Kahu naanak morachaa guri laahio tah garabh joni kah aavai ||4||1||

Says Nanak, the Guru has rubbed sway the rust; now how could I ever enter the womb of reincarnation again? ||4||1||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਉਲਾਹਨੋ ਮੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਨ ਦੀਓ ॥

उलाहनो मै काहू न दीओ ॥

Ulaahano mai kaahoo na deeo ||

I don't blame anyone else.

ਮਨ ਮੀਠ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਕੀਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मन मीठ तुहारो कीओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Man meeth tuhaaro keeo ||1|| rahaau ||

Whatever You do is sweet to my mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਜੀਓ ॥

आगिआ मानि जानि सुखु पाइआ सुनि सुनि नामु तुहारो जीओ ॥

Aagiaa maani jaani sukhu paaiaa suni suni naamu tuhaaro jeeo ||

Understanding and obeying Your Order, I have found peace; hearing, listening to Your Name, I live.

ਈਹਾਂ ਊਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੀਓ ॥੧॥

ईहां ऊहा हरि तुम ही तुम ही इहु गुर ते मंत्रु द्रिड़ीओ ॥१॥

Eehaan uhaa hari tum hee tum hee ihu gur te manttru dri(rr)eeo ||1||

Here and hereafter, O Lord, You, only You. The Guru has implanted this Mantra within me. ||1||

ਜਬ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਾਈ ਏਹ ਬਾਤਾ ਤਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਖੇਮ ਸਭ ਥੀਓ ॥

जब ते जानि पाई एह बाता तब कुसल खेम सभ थीओ ॥

Jab te jaani paaee eh baataa tab kusal khem sabh theeo ||

Since I came to realize this, I have been blessed with total peace and pleasure.

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, this has been revealed to Nanak, and now, there is no other for him at all. ||2||1||2||

Whoever has You for support,

ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਪੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जम की त्रास मिटी सुखु पाइआ निकसी हउमै पीर ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jam kee traas mitee sukhu paaiaa nikasee haumai peer ||1|| rahaau ||

Has the fear of death removed; peace is found, and the disease of egotism is taken away. ||1|| Pause ||

ਤਪਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਨੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਖੀਰ ॥

तपति बुझानी अम्रित बानी त्रिपते जिउ बारिक खीर ॥

Tapati bujhaanee ammmrit baanee tripate jiu baarik kheer ||

The fire within is quenched, and one is satisfied through the Ambrosial Word of the Guru's Bani, as the baby is satisfied by milk.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਬੀਰ ॥੧॥

मात पिता साजन संत मेरे संत सहाई बीर ॥१॥

Maat pitaa saajan santt mere santt sahaaee beer ||1||

The Saints are my mother, father and friends. The Saints are my help and support, and my brothers. ||1||

ਖੁਲੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੀਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ਹੀਰੈ ਬੇਧੇ ਹੀਰ ॥

खुले भ्रम भीति मिले गोपाला हीरै बेधे हीर ॥

Khule bhrm bheeti mile gopaalaa heerai bedhe heer ||

The doors of doubt are thrown open, and I have met the Lord of the World; God's diamond has pierced the diamond of my mind.

ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਗੁਨੀ ਗਹੀਰ ॥੨॥੨॥੩॥

बिसम भए नानक जसु गावत ठाकुर गुनी गहीर ॥२॥२॥३॥

Bisam bhae naanak jasu gaavat thaakur gunee gaheer ||2||2||3||

Nanak blossoms forth in ecstasy, singing the Lord's Praises; my Lord and Master is the ocean of virtue. ||2||2||3||

Apanaa janu aapahi aapi udhaario ||

He Himself saves His humble servant.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸਿਓ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आठ पहर जन कै संगि बसिओ मन ते नाहि बिसारिओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Aath pahar jan kai sanggi basio man te naahi bisaario ||1|| rahaau ||

Twenty-four hours a day, He dwells with His humble servant; He never forgets him from His Mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬਰਨੁ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਕੁਲੁ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਓ ॥

बरनु चिहनु नाही किछु पेखिओ दास का कुलु न बिचारिओ ॥

Baranu chihanu naahee kichhu pekhio daas kaa kulu na bichaario ||

The Lord does not look at his color or form; He does not consider the ancestry of His slave.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਓ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਸਵਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥

करि किरपा नामु हरि दीओ सहजि सुभाइ सवारिओ ॥१॥

Kari kirapaa naamu hari deeo sahaji subhaai savaario ||1||

Granting His Grace, the Lord blesses him with His Name, and embellishes him with intuitive ease. ||1||

ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਓ ॥

महा बिखमु अगनि का सागरु तिस ते पारि उतारिओ ॥

Mahaa bikhamu agani kaa saagaru tis te paari utaario ||

The ocean of fire is treacherous and difficult, but he is carried across.

ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਗਸਾਨੋ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥੩॥੪॥

पेखि पेखि नानक बिगसानो पुनह पुनह बलिहारिओ ॥२॥३॥४॥

Pekhi pekhi naanak bigasaano punah punah balihaario ||2||3||4||

Seeing, seeing Him, Nanak blossoms forth, over and over again, a sacrifice to Him. ||2||3||4||

One who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, within his mind

ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਰਹਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कोटि अप्राध मिटहि खिन भीतरि ता का दुखु न रहिओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Koti apraadh mitahi khin bheetari taa kaa dukhu na rahio ||1|| rahaau ||

- millions of sins are erased in an instant, and pain is relieved. ||1|| Pause ||

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਇਓ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਹਿਓ ॥

खोजत खोजत भइओ बैरागी साधू संगि लहिओ ॥

Khojat khojat bhaio bairaagee saadhoo sanggi lahio ||

Seeking and searching, I have become detached; I have found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਗਹਿਓ ॥੧॥

सगल तिआगि एक लिव लागी हरि हरि चरन गहिओ ॥१॥

Sagal tiaagi ek liv laagee hari hari charan gahio ||1||

Renouncing everything, I am lovingly focused on the One Lord. I grab hold of the feet of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

ਕਹਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਸੁਨਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਇਓ ॥

कहत मुकत सुनते निसतारे जो जो सरनि पइओ ॥

Kahat mukat sunate nisataare jo jo sarani paio ||

Whoever chants His Name is liberated; whoever listens to it is saved, as is anyone who seeks His Sanctuary.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਓ ॥੨॥੪॥੫॥

सिमरि सिमरि सुआमी प्रभु अपुना कहु नानक अनदु भइओ ॥२॥४॥५॥

Simari simari suaamee prbhu apunaa kahu naanak anadu bhaio ||2||4||5||

Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God the Lord and Master, says Nanak, I am in ecstasy! ||2||4||5||

सुख सागर करि परम गति मोरी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sukh saagar kari param gati moree ||1|| rahaau ||

O Lord, ocean of peace, please bless me with the supreme status. ||1|| Pause ||

ਅੰਚਲਾ ਗਹਾਇਓ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਮਨੁ ਬੀਧੋ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਖੋਰੀ ॥

अंचला गहाइओ जन अपुने कउ मनु बीधो प्रेम की खोरी ॥

Ancchalaa gahaaio jan apune kau manu beedho prem kee khoree ||

He has inspired His humble servant to grasp the hem of His robe; his mind is pierced through with the intoxication of divine love.

ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਜਾਲੀ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੧॥

जसु गावत भगति रसु उपजिओ माइआ की जाली तोरी ॥१॥

Jasu gaavat bhagati rasu upajio maaiaa kee jaalee toree ||1||

Singing His Praises, love wells up within the devotee, and the trap of Maya is broken. ||1||

ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਨ ਨ ਪੇਖਉ ਹੋਰੀ ॥

पूरन पूरि रहे किरपा निधि आन न पेखउ होरी ॥

Pooran poori rahe kirapaa nidhi aan na pekhau horee ||

The Lord, the ocean of mercy, is all-pervading, permeating everywhere; I do not see any other at all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਓ ਦਾਸੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਥੋਰੀ ॥੨॥੫॥੬॥

नानक मेलि लीओ दासु अपुना प्रीति न कबहू थोरी ॥२॥५॥६॥

Naanak meli leeo daasu apunaa preeti na kabahoo thoree ||2||5||6||

He has united slave Nanak with Himself; His Love never diminishes. ||2||5||6||

O my mind, chant, and meditate on the Lord.

ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कबहू न बिसरहु मन मेरे ते आठ पहर गुन गाइण ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kabahoo na bisarahu man mere te aath pahar gun gaai(nn) ||1|| rahaau ||

I shall never forget Him from my mind; twenty-four hours a day, I sing His Glorious Praises. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਉ ਨਿਤ ਮਜਨੁ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਗਵਾਇਣ ॥

साधू धूरि करउ नित मजनु सभ किलबिख पाप गवाइण ॥

Saadhoo dhoori karau nit majanu sabh kilabikh paap gavaai(nn) ||

I take my daily cleansing bath in the dust of the feet of the Holy, and I am rid of all my sins.

ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ॥੧॥

पूरन पूरि रहे किरपा निधि घटि घटि दिसटि समाइणु ॥१॥

Pooran poori rahe kirapaa nidhi ghati ghati disati samaai(nn)u ||1||

The Lord, the ocean of mercy, is all-pervading, permeating everywhere; He is seen to be contained in each and every heart. ||1||

ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਲਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਲਾਇਣ ॥

जाप ताप कोटि लख पूजा हरि सिमरण तुलि न लाइण ॥

Jaap taap koti lakh poojaa hari simara(nn) tuli na laai(nn) ||

Hundreds of thousands and millions of meditations, austerities and worships are not equal to remembering the Lord in meditation.

ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਇਣੁ ॥੨॥੬॥੭॥

दुइ कर जोड़ि नानकु दानु मांगै तेरे दासनि दास दसाइणु ॥२॥६॥७॥

Dui kar jo(rr)i naanaku daanu maangai tere daasani daas dasaai(nn)u ||2||6||7||

With his palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this blessing, that he may become the slave of the slaves of Your slaves. ||2||6||7||

The treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is everything for me.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

करि किरपा साधू संगि मिलिओ सतिगुरि दीनो दानु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kari kirapaa saadhoo sanggi milio satiguri deeno daanu ||1|| rahaau ||

Granting His Grace, He has led me to join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; the True Guru has granted this gift. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਹਾਰਾ ਗਾਉ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥

सुखदाता दुख भंजनहारा गाउ कीरतनु पूरन गिआनु ॥

Sukhadaataa dukh bhanjjanahaaraa gaau keeratanu pooran giaanu ||

Sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the Lord, the Giver of peace, the Destroyer of pain; He shall bless you with perfect spiritual wisdom.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਕੀਨੑੇ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਮੂੜ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥

कामु क्रोधु लोभु खंड खंड कीन्हे बिनसिओ मूड़ अभिमानु ॥१॥

Kaamu krodhu lobhu khandd khandd keenhe binasio moo(rr) abhimaanu ||1||

Sexual desire, anger and greed shall be shattered and destroyed, and your foolish ego will be dispelled. ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਨੁ ॥

किआ गुण तेरे आखि वखाणा प्रभ अंतरजामी जानु ॥

Kiaa gu(nn) tere aakhi vakhaa(nn)aa prbh anttarajaamee jaanu ||

What Glorious Virtues of Yours should I chant? O God, You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥੭॥੮॥

चरन कमल सरनि सुख सागर नानकु सद कुरबानु ॥२॥७॥८॥

Charan kamal sarani sukh saagar naanaku sad kurabaanu ||2||7||8||

I seek the Sanctuary of Your Lotus Feet, O Lord, ocean of peace; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||7||8||

ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਤੁਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੧॥

मोहि निरगुन तुम पूरन दाते दीना नाथ दइआल ॥१॥

Mohi niragun tum pooran daate deenaa naath daiaal ||1||

I am unworthy; You are the Perfect Giver. You are the Merciful Master of the meek. ||1||

ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਤ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨ ਮਾਲ ॥੨॥

ऊठत बैठत सोवत जागत जीअ प्रान धन माल ॥२॥

Uthat baithat sovat jaagat jeea praan dhan maal ||2||

While standing up and sitting down, while sleeping and awake, You are my soul, my breath of life, my wealth and property. ||2||

ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੩॥੮॥੯॥

दरसन पिआस बहुतु मनि मेरै नानक दरस निहाल ॥३॥८॥९॥

Darasan piaas bahutu mani merai naanak daras nihaal ||3||8||9||

Within my mind there is such a great thirst for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. Nanak is enraptured with Your Glance of Grace. ||3||8||9||

Is there any friend or companion of mine,

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ਨੀਤ ॥

हरि नामु सुनावै नीत ॥

Hari naamu sunaavai neet ||

Who will constantly share the Lord's Name with me?

ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥

बिनसै दुखु बिपरीति ॥

Binasai dukhu bipareeti ||

Will he rid me of my pains and evil tendencies?

ਸਭੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सभु अरपउ मनु तनु चीतु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sabhu arapau manu tanu cheetu ||1|| rahaau ||

I would surrender my mind, body, consciousness and everything. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਆਪਨ ਕੀਤ ॥

कोई विरला आपन कीत ॥

Koee viralaa aapan keet ||

How rare is that one whom the Lord makes His own,

ਸੰਗਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤ ॥

संगि चरन कमल मनु सीत ॥

Sanggi charan kamal manu seet ||

And whose mind is sewn into the Lord's Lotus Feet.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਤ ॥੧॥

करि किरपा हरि जसु दीत ॥१॥

Kari kirapaa hari jasu deet ||1||

Granting His Grace, the Lord blesses him with His Praise. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਭਜਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਜੀਤ ॥

हरि भजि जनमु पदारथु जीत ॥

Hari bhaji janamu padaarathu jeet ||

Vibrating, meditating on the Lord, he is victorious in this precious human life,

ਕੋਟਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਹੋਹਿ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥

कोटि पतित होहि पुनीत ॥

Koti patit hohi puneet ||

And millions of sinners are sanctified.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਕੀਤ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੦॥੧੯॥

नानक दास बलि बलि कीत ॥२॥१॥१०॥१९॥

Naanak daas bali bali keet ||2||1||10||19||

ਰਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੇ ॥

राम मेरे मनि तनि नामु अधारे ॥

Raam mere mani tani naamu adhaare ||

O Lord, Your Name is the support of my mind and body.

ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

खिनु पलु रहि न सकउ बिनु सेवा मै गुरमति नामु सम्हारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Khinu palu rahi na sakau binu sevaa mai guramati naamu samhaare ||1|| rahaau ||

I cannot survive for a moment, even for an instant, without serving You. Following the Guru's Teachings, I dwell upon the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

हरि हरि हरि हरि हरि मनि धिआवहु मै हरि हरि नामु पिआरे ॥

Hari hari hari hari hari mani dhiaavahu mai hari hari naamu piaare ||

Within my mind, I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, Har. The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is so dear to me.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

दीन दइआल भए प्रभ ठाकुर गुर कै सबदि सवारे ॥१॥

Deen daiaal bhae prbh thaakur gur kai sabadi savaare ||1||

When God,my Lord and Master,became merciful to me the meek one, I was exalted by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||

ਮਧਸੂਦਨ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਮਾਧੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥

मधसूदन जगजीवन माधो मेरे ठाकुर अगम अपारे ॥

Madhasoodan jagajeevan maadho mere thaakur agam apaare ||

Almighty Lord, Slayer of demons, Life of the World, my Lord and Master, inaccessible and infinite:

ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਮੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

इक बिनउ बेनती करउ गुर आगै मै साधू चरन पखारे ॥२॥

Ik binau benatee karau gur aagai mai saadhoo charan pakhaare ||2||

I offer this one prayer to the Guru, to bless me, that I may wash the feet of the Holy. ||2||

ਸਹਸ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥

सहस नेत्र नेत्र है प्रभ कउ प्रभ एको पुरखु निरारे ॥

Sahas netr netr hai prbh kau prbh eko purakhu niraare ||

The thousands of eyes are the eyes of God; the One God, the Primal Being, remains unattached.

ਸਹਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

सहस मूरति एको प्रभु ठाकुरु प्रभु एको गुरमति तारे ॥३॥

Sahas moorati eko prbhu thaakuru prbhu eko guramati taare ||3||

The One God, our Lord and Master, has thousands of forms; God alone, through the Guru's Teachings, saves us. ||3||

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਮੋਦਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

गुरमति नामु दमोदरु पाइआ हरि हरि नामु उरि धारे ॥

Guramati naamu damodaru paaiaa hari hari naamu uri dhaare ||

Following the Guru's Teachings, I have been blessed with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I have enshrined within my heart the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਬਨੀ ਅਤਿ ਮੀਠੀ ਜਿਉ ਗੂੰਗਾ ਗਟਕ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥

हरि हरि कथा बनी अति मीठी जिउ गूंगा गटक सम्हारे ॥४॥

Hari hari kathaa banee ati meethee jiu goonggaa gatak samhaare ||4||

The sermon of the Lord, Har, Har, is so very sweet; like the mute, I taste its sweetness, but I cannot describe it at all. ||4||

ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦ ਚਖੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਅਤਿ ਫੀਕੇ ਲੋਭ ਬਿਕਾਰੇ ॥

रसना साद चखै भाइ दूजै अति फीके लोभ बिकारे ॥

Rasanaa saad chakhai bhaai doojai ati pheeke lobh bikaare ||

The tongue savors the bland, insipid taste of the love of duality, greed and corruption.

ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਦ ਚਖਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਸਭ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਸਾਦ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ॥੫॥

जो गुरमुखि साद चखहि राम नामा सभ अन रस साद बिसारे ॥५॥

Jo guramukhi saad chakhahi raam naamaa sabh an ras saad bisaare ||5||

The Gurmukh tastes the flavor of the Lord's Name, and all other tastes and flavors are forgotten. ||5||

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁਣਿ ਕਹਤਿਆ ਪਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥

गुरमति राम नामु धनु पाइआ सुणि कहतिआ पाप निवारे ॥

Guramati raam naamu dhanu paaiaa su(nn)i kahatiaa paap nivaare ||

Following the Guru's Teachings, I have obtained the wealth of the Lord's Name; hearing it, and chanting it, sins are eradicated.

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਮੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੬॥

धरम राइ जमु नेड़ि न आवै मेरे ठाकुर के जन पिआरे ॥६॥

Dharam raai jamu ne(rr)i na aavai mere thaakur ke jan piaare ||6||

The Messenger of Death and the Righteous Judge of Dharma do not even approach the beloved servant of my Lord and Master. ||6||

ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ਮੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥

सास सास सास है जेते मै गुरमति नामु सम्हारे ॥

Saas saas saas hai jete mai guramati naamu samhaare ||

With as many breaths as I have, I chant the Naam, under Guru's Instructions.

ਸਾਸੁ ਸਾਸੁ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਸੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੇ ॥੭॥

सासु सासु जाइ नामै बिनु सो बिरथा सासु बिकारे ॥७॥

Saasu saasu jaai naamai binu so birathaa saasu bikaare ||7||

Each and every breath which escapes me without the Naam - that breath is useless and corrupt. ||7||

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮੇਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

क्रिपा क्रिपा करि दीन प्रभ सरनी मो कउ हरि जन मेलि पिआरे ॥

Kripaa kripaa kari deen prbh saranee mo kau hari jan meli piaare ||

Please grant Your Grace; I am meek; I seek Your Sanctuary, God. Unite me with Your beloved, humble servants.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਹੈ ਹਮ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੇ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੧॥

नानक दासनि दासु कहतु है हम दासन के पनिहारे ॥८॥१॥

Naanak daasani daasu kahatu hai ham daasan ke panihaare ||8||1||

Nanak, the slave of Your slaves, says, I am the water-carrier of Your slaves. ||8||1||

ਰਾਮ ਹਮ ਪਾਥਰ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ॥

Raam ham paathar niraguneeaare ||

O Lord, I am an unworthy stone.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਹਮ ਪਾਹਨ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

क्रिपा क्रिपा करि गुरू मिलाए हम पाहन सबदि गुर तारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kripaa kripaa kari guroo milaae ham paahan sabadi gur taare ||1|| rahaau ||

The Merciful Lord, in His Mercy, has led me to meet the Guru; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, this stone is carried across. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਅਤਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਮੈਲਾਗਰੁ ਮਲਗਾਰੇ ॥

सतिगुर नामु द्रिड़ाए अति मीठा मैलागरु मलगारे ॥

Satigur naamu dri(rr)aae ati meethaa mailaagaru malagaare ||

The True Guru has implanted within me the exceedingly sweet Naam, the Name of the Lord; it is like the most fragrant sandalwood.

ਨਾਮੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਜੀ ਹੈ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਸਕੀ ਮੁਸਕ ਗੰਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

नामै सुरति वजी है दह दिसि हरि मुसकी मुसक गंधारे ॥१॥

Naamai surati vajee hai dah disi hari musakee musak ganddhaare ||1||

Through the Name, my awareness extends in the ten directions; the fragrance of the fragrant Lord permeates the air. ||1||

ਤੇਰੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਥਾ ਕਥਾ ਹੈ ਮੀਠੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਨੀਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥

तेरी निरगुण कथा कथा है मीठी गुरि नीके बचन समारे ॥

Teree niragu(nn) kathaa kathaa hai meethee guri neeke bachan samaare ||

Your unlimited sermon is the most sweet sermon; I contemplate the most Sublime Word of the Guru.

ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

गावत गावत हरि गुन गाए गुन गावत गुरि निसतारे ॥२॥

Gaavat gaavat hari gun gaae gun gaavat guri nisataare ||2||

Singing, singing, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; singing His Glorious Praises, the Guru saves me. ||2||

ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸੰਕ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥

बिबेकु गुरू गुरू समदरसी तिसु मिलीऐ संक उतारे ॥

Bibeku guroo guroo samadarasee tisu mileeai sankk utaare ||

The Guru is wise and clear; the Guru looks upon all alike. Meeting with Him, doubt and skepticism are removed.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

सतिगुर मिलिऐ परम पदु पाइआ हउ सतिगुर कै बलिहारे ॥३॥

Satigur miliai param padu paaiaa hau satigur kai balihaare ||3||

Meeting with the True Guru, I have obtained the supreme status. I am a sacrifice to the True Guru. ||3||

ਪਾਖੰਡ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਭਰਮੇ ਲੋਭੁ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਜਗਿ ਬੁਰਿਆਰੇ ॥

पाखंड पाखंड करि करि भरमे लोभु पाखंडु जगि बुरिआरे ॥

Paakhandd paakhandd kari kari bharame lobhu paakhanddu jagi buriaare ||

Practicing hypocrisy and deception, people wander around in confusion. Greed and hypocrisy are evils in this world.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਖੜਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੪॥

हलति पलति दुखदाई होवहि जमकालु खड़ा सिरि मारे ॥४॥

Halati palati dukhadaaee hovahi jamakaalu kha(rr)aa siri maare ||4||

In this world and the next, they are miserable; the Messenger of Death hovers over their heads, and strikes them down. ||4||

ਉਗਵੈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਆਲੁ ਜਾਲੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੇ ॥

उगवै दिनसु आलु जालु सम्हालै बिखु माइआ के बिसथारे ॥

Ugavai dinasu aalu jaalu samhaalai bikhu maaiaa ke bisathaare ||

At the break of day, they take care of their affairs, and the poisonous entanglements of Maya.

ਆਈ ਰੈਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਭੀ ਦੁਖ ਸਾਰੇ ॥੫॥

आई रैनि भइआ सुपनंतरु बिखु सुपनै भी दुख सारे ॥५॥

Aaee raini bhaiaa supananttaru bikhu supanai bhee dukh saare ||5||

When night falls, they enter the land of dreams, and even in dreams, they take care of their corruptions and pains. ||5||

ਕਲਰੁ ਖੇਤੁ ਲੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਜਮਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੇ ਖਲਵਾਰੇ ॥

कलरु खेतु लै कूड़ु जमाइआ सभ कूड़ै के खलवारे ॥

Kalaru khetu lai koo(rr)u jamaaiaa sabh koo(rr)ai ke khalavaare ||

Taking a barren field, they plant falsehood; they shall harvest only falsehood.

ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਸਭਿ ਭੂਖ ਭੁਖਾਨੇ ਦਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰੇ ॥੬॥

साकत नर सभि भूख भुखाने दरि ठाढे जम जंदारे ॥६॥

Saakat nar sabhi bhookh bhukhaane dari thaadhe jam janddaare ||6||

The materialistic people shall all remain hungry; the brutal Messenger of Death stands waiting at their door. ||6||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਜੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

मनमुख करजु चड़िआ बिखु भारी उतरै सबदु वीचारे ॥

Manamukh karaju cha(rr)iaa bikhu bhaaree utarai sabadu veechaare ||

The self-willed manmukh has accumulated a tremendous load of debt in sin; only by contemplating the Word of the Shabad, can this debt be paid off.

ਜਿਤਨੇ ਕਰਜ ਕਰਜ ਕੇ ਮੰਗੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਗਿ ਲਗਿ ਵਾਰੇ ॥੭॥

जितने करज करज के मंगीए करि सेवक पगि लगि वारे ॥७॥

Jitane karaj karaj ke manggeee kari sevak pagi lagi vaare ||7||

As much debt and as many creditors as there are, the Lord makes them into servants, who fall at his feet. ||7||

ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਸਭਿ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਉਪਾਏ ਨਕਿ ਖੀਨੀ ਸਭ ਨਥਹਾਰੇ ॥

जगंनाथ सभि जंत्र उपाए नकि खीनी सभ नथहारे ॥

Jagannaath sabhi janttr upaae naki kheenee sabh nathahaare ||

All the beings which the Lord of the Universe created - He puts the rings through their noses, and leads them all along.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਖਿੰਚੈ ਤਿਵ ਚਲੀਐ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੮॥੨॥

नानक प्रभु खिंचै तिव चलीऐ जिउ भावै राम पिआरे ॥८॥२॥

Naanak prbhu khincchai tiv chaleeai jiu bhaavai raam piaare ||8||2||

O Nanak, as God drives us on, so do we follow; it is all the Will of the Beloved Lord. ||8||2||

ਰਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵਾਰੇ ॥

राम हरि अम्रित सरि नावारे ॥

Raam hari ammmrit sari naavaare ||

The Lord has bathed me in the pool of Ambrosial Nectar.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਜਨੁ ਹੈ ਨੀਕੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਲਮਲ ਪਾਪ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुरि गिआनु मजनु है नीको मिलि कलमल पाप उतारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Satiguri giaanu majanu hai neeko mili kalamal paap utaare ||1|| rahaau ||

The spiritual wisdom of the True Guru is the most excellent cleansing bath; bathing in it, all the filthy sins are washed away. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਾ ਗੁਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ਪੜਿ ਸੂਆ ਗਨਕ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥

संगति का गुनु बहुतु अधिकाई पड़ि सूआ गनक उधारे ॥

Sanggati kaa gunu bahutu adhikaaee pa(rr)i sooaa ganak udhaare ||

The virtues of the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, are so very great. Even the prostitute was saved, by teaching the parrot to speak the Lord's Name.

ਪਰਸ ਨਪਰਸ ਭਏ ਕੁਬਿਜਾ ਕਉ ਲੈ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

परस नपरस भए कुबिजा कउ लै बैकुंठि सिधारे ॥१॥

Paras naparas bhae kubijaa kau lai baikuntthi sidhaare ||1||

Krishna was pleased, and so he touched the hunch-back Kubija, and she was transported to the heavens. ||1||

ਅਜਾਮਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਬੋਲਾਰੇ ॥

अजामल प्रीति पुत्र प्रति कीनी करि नाराइण बोलारे ॥

Ajaamal preeti putr prti keenee kari naaraai(nn) bolaare ||

Ajaamal loved his son Naaraayan, and called out his name.

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

मेरे ठाकुर कै मनि भाइ भावनी जमकंकर मारि बिदारे ॥२॥

Mere thaakur kai mani bhaai bhaavanee jamakankkar maari bidaare ||2||

His loving devotion pleased my Lord and Master, who struck down and drove off the Messengers of Death. ||2||

ਮਾਨੁਖੁ ਕਥੈ ਕਥਿ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੋ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

मानुखु कथै कथि लोक सुनावै जो बोलै सो न बीचारे ॥

Maanukhu kathai kathi lok sunaavai jo bolai so na beechaare ||

The mortal speaks and by speaking, makes the people listen; but he does not reflect upon what he himself says.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਦਿੜਤਾ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

सतसंगति मिलै त दिड़ता आवै हरि राम नामि निसतारे ॥३॥

Satasanggati milai ta di(rr)ataa aavai hari raam naami nisataare ||3||

But when he joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, he is confirmed in his faith, and he is saved by the Name of the Lord. ||3||

ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਤਬ ਲਗਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥

जब लगु जीउ पिंडु है साबतु तब लगि किछु न समारे ॥

Jab lagu jeeu pinddu hai saabatu tab lagi kichhu na samaare ||

As long as his soul and body are healthy and strong, he does not remember the Lord at all.

ਜਬ ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਆਗਿ ਲਗਾਨੀ ਕਢਿ ਕੂਪੁ ਕਢੈ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥

जब घर मंदरि आगि लगानी कढि कूपु कढै पनिहारे ॥४॥

Jab ghar manddari aagi lagaanee kadhi koopu kadhai panihaare ||4||

But when his home and mansion catch fire, then, he wants to dig the well to draw water. ||4||

ਸਾਕਤ ਸਿਉ ਮਨ ਮੇਲੁ ਨ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ॥

साकत सिउ मन मेलु न करीअहु जिनि हरि हरि नामु बिसारे ॥

Saakat siu man melu na kareeahu jini hari hari naamu bisaare ||

O mind, do not join with the faithless cynic, who has forgotten the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਸਾਕਤ ਬਚਨ ਬਿਛੂਆ ਜਿਉ ਡਸੀਐ ਤਜਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਪਰੈ ਪਰਾਰੇ ॥੫॥

साकत बचन बिछूआ जिउ डसीऐ तजि साकत परै परारे ॥५॥

Saakat bachan bichhooaa jiu daseeai taji saakat parai paraare ||5||

The word of the faithless cynic stings like a scorpion; leave the faithless cynic far, far behind. ||5||

ਲਗਿ ਲਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਲਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

लगि लगि प्रीति बहु प्रीति लगाई लगि साधू संगि सवारे ॥

Lagi lagi preeti bahu preeti lagaaee lagi saadhoo sanggi savaare ||

Fall in love, fall deeply in love with the Lord; clinging to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you will be exalted and embellished.

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੬॥

गुर के बचन सति सति करि माने मेरे ठाकुर बहुतु पिआरे ॥६॥

Gur ke bachan sati sati kari maane mere thaakur bahutu piaare ||6||

Those who accept the Word of the Guru as True, totally True, are very dear to my Lord and Master. ||6||

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਪਰਚੂਨ ਕਮਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

पूरबि जनमि परचून कमाए हरि हरि हरि नामि पिआरे ॥

Poorabi janami parachoon kamaae hari hari hari naami piaare ||

Because of actions committed in past lives, one comes to love the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਸੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥੭॥

गुर प्रसादि अम्रित रसु पाइआ रसु गावै रसु वीचारे ॥७॥

Gur prsaadi ammmrit rasu paaiaa rasu gaavai rasu veechaare ||7||

By Guru's Grace, you shall obtain the ambrosial essence; sing of this essence, and reflect upon this essence. ||7||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲਨ ਲਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਰੇ ॥

हरि हरि रूप रंग सभि तेरे मेरे लालन लाल गुलारे ॥

Hari hari roop rangg sabhi tere mere laalan laal gulaare ||

O Lord, Har, Har, all forms and colors are Yours; O my Beloved, my deep crimson ruby.

ਜੈਸਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੩॥

जैसा रंगु देहि सो होवै किआ नानक जंत विचारे ॥८॥३॥

Jaisaa ranggu dehi so hovai kiaa naanak jantt vichaare ||8||3||

Only that color which You impart, Lord, exists; O Nanak, what can the poor wretched being do? ||8||3||

Nat, Fourth Mehl:

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ॥

राम गुर सरनि प्रभू रखवारे ॥

Raam gur sarani prbhoo rakhavaare ||

In the Sanctuary of the Guru, the Lord God saves and protects us,

ਜਿਉ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਤਦੂਐ ਪਕਰਿ ਚਲਾਇਓ ਕਰਿ ਊਪਰੁ ਕਢਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिउ कुंचरु तदूऐ पकरि चलाइओ करि ऊपरु कढि निसतारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jiu kunccharu tadooai pakari chalaaio kari uparu kadhi nisataare ||1|| rahaau ||

As He protected the elephant, when the crocodile seized it and pulled it into the water; He lifted him up and pulled him out. ||1|| Pause ||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਨੀਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

प्रभ के सेवक बहुतु अति नीके मनि सरधा करि हरि धारे ॥

Prbh ke sevak bahutu ati neeke mani saradhaa kari hari dhaare ||

God's servants are sublime and exalted; they enshrine faith for Him in their minds.

ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

मेरे प्रभि सरधा भगति मनि भावै जन की पैज सवारे ॥१॥

Mere prbhi saradhaa bhagati mani bhaavai jan kee paij savaare ||1||

Faith and devotion are pleasing to my God's Mind; He saves the honor of His humble servants. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੇ ॥

हरि हरि सेवकु सेवा लागै सभु देखै ब्रहम पसारे ॥

Hari hari sevaku sevaa laagai sabhu dekhai brham pasaare ||

The servant of the Lord, Har, Har, is committed to His service; He sees God pervading the entire expanse of the universe.

ਏਕੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਇਕੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

एकु पुरखु इकु नदरी आवै सभ एका नदरि निहारे ॥२॥

Eku purakhu iku nadaree aavai sabh ekaa nadari nihaare ||2||

He sees the One and only Primal Lord God, who blesses all with His Glance of Grace. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਸਭੁ ਚੇਰੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥

हरि प्रभु ठाकुरु रविआ सभ ठाई सभु चेरी जगतु समारे ॥

Hari prbhu thaakuru raviaa sabh thaaee sabhu cheree jagatu samaare ||

God, our Lord and Master, is permeating and pervading all places; He takes care of the whole world as His slave.

ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀਰੇ ਕਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

आपि दइआलु दइआ दानु देवै विचि पाथर कीरे कारे ॥३॥

Aapi daiaalu daiaa daanu devai vichi paathar keere kaare ||3||

The Merciful Lord Himself mercifully gives His gifts, even to worms in stones. ||3||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮੁਸਕਾਈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਮਿਰਗੁ ਸਿੰਙ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥

अंतरि वासु बहुतु मुसकाई भ्रमि भूला मिरगु सिंङ्हारे ॥

Anttari vaasu bahutu musakaaee bhrmi bhoolaa miragu sin(ng)(ng)haare ||

Within the deer is the heavy fragrance of musk, but he is confused and deluded, and he shakes his horns looking for it.

ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਢੂਢਿ ਢੂਢਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਘਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੪॥

बनु बनु ढूढि ढूढि फिरि थाकी गुरि पूरै घरि निसतारे ॥४॥

Banu banu dhoodhi dhoodhi phiri thaakee guri poorai ghari nisataare ||4||

Wandering, rambling and roaming through the forests and woods, I exhausted myself, and then in my own home, the Perfect Guru saved me. ||4||

ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰੇ ॥

बाणी गुरू गुरू है बाणी विचि बाणी अम्रितु सारे ॥

Baa(nn)ee guroo guroo hai baa(nn)ee vichi baa(nn)ee ammmritu saare ||

The Word, the Bani is Guru, and Guru is the Bani. Within the Bani, the Ambrosial Nectar is contained.

ਗੁਰੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਕਹੈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੫॥

गुरु बाणी कहै सेवकु जनु मानै परतखि गुरू निसतारे ॥५॥

Guru baa(nn)ee kahai sevaku janu maanai paratakhi guroo nisataare ||5||

If His humble servant believes, and acts according to the Words of the Guru's Bani, then the Guru, in person, emancipates him. ||5||

ਸਭੁ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਖਾਵਾਰੇ ॥

सभु है ब्रहमु ब्रहमु है पसरिआ मनि बीजिआ खावारे ॥

Sabhu hai brhamu brhamu hai pasariaa mani beejiaa khaavaare ||

All is God, and God is the whole expanse; man eats what he has planted.

ਜਿਉ ਜਨ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਹਾਂਸੁ ਦੁਖਿਆ ਧ੍ਰਿਸਟਬੁਧੀ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਲੂਕੀ ਜਾਰੇ ॥੬॥

जिउ जन चंद्रहांसु दुखिआ ध्रिसटबुधी अपुना घरु लूकी जारे ॥६॥

Jiu jan chanddrhaansu dukhiaa dhrisatabudhee apunaa gharu lookee jaare ||6||

When Dhrishtabudhi tormented the humble devotee Chandrahaans, he only set his own house on fire. ||6||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਜਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਿਦ ਲੋਚੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਸ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥

प्रभ कउ जनु अंतरि रिद लोचै प्रभ जन के सास निहारे ॥

Prbh kau janu anttari rid lochai prbh jan ke saas nihaare ||

God's humble servant longs for Him within his heart; God watches over each breath of His humble servant.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਜਨ ਪੀਛੈ ਜਗੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੭॥

क्रिपा क्रिपा करि भगति द्रिड़ाए जन पीछै जगु निसतारे ॥७॥

Kripaa kripaa kari bhagati dri(rr)aae jan peechhai jagu nisataare ||7||

Mercifully, mercifully, He implants devotion within his humble servant; for his sake, God saves the whole world. ||7||

ਆਪਨ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

आपन आपि आपि प्रभु ठाकुरु प्रभु आपे स्रिसटि सवारे ॥

Aapan aapi aapi prbhu thaakuru prbhu aape srisati savaare ||

God, our Lord and Master, is Himself by Himself; God Himself embellishes the universe.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਸਭੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੪॥

जन नानक आपे आपि सभु वरतै करि क्रिपा आपि निसतारे ॥८॥४॥

Jan naanak aape aapi sabhu varatai kari kripaa aapi nisataare ||8||4||

O servant Nanak, He Himself is all-pervading; in His Mercy, He Himself emancipates all. ||8||4||

Nat, Fourth Mehl:

ਰਾਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥

राम करि किरपा लेहु उबारे ॥

Raam kari kirapaa lehu ubaare ||

Grant Your Grace, Lord, and save me,

ਜਿਉ ਪਕਰਿ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ ਦੁਸਟਾਂ ਆਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਜ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिउ पकरि द्रोपती दुसटां आनी हरि हरि लाज निवारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jiu pakari dropatee dusataan aanee hari hari laaj nivaare ||1|| rahaau ||

as You saved Dropadi from shame when she was seized and brought before the court by the evil villains. ||1||Pause||

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਕੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

करि किरपा जाचिक जन तेरे इकु मागउ दानु पिआरे ॥

Kari kirapaa jaachik jan tere iku maagau daanu piaare ||

Bless me with Your Grace - I am just a humble beggar of Yours; I beg for a single blessing, O my Beloved.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਨਿਤ ਸਰਧਾ ਲਾਗੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

सतिगुर की नित सरधा लागी मो कउ हरि गुरु मेलि सवारे ॥१॥

Satigur kee nit saradhaa laagee mo kau hari guru meli savaare ||1||

I long constantly for the True Guru. Lead me to meet the Guru, O Lord, that I may be exalted and embellished. ||1||

ਸਾਕਤ ਕਰਮ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਿਉ ਮਥੀਐ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਝੋਲ ਝੁਲਾਰੇ ॥

साकत करम पाणी जिउ मथीऐ नित पाणी झोल झुलारे ॥

Saakat karam paa(nn)ee jiu matheeai nit paa(nn)ee jhol jhulaare ||

The actions of the faithless cynic are like the churning of water; he churns, constantly churning only water.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਢਿ ਮਾਖਨ ਕੇ ਗਟਕਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

मिलि सतसंगति परम पदु पाइआ कढि माखन के गटकारे ॥२॥

Mili satasanggati param padu paaiaa kadhi maakhan ke gatakaare ||2||

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the supreme status is obtained; the butter is produced, and eaten with delight. ||2||

ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਜਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਨਿਤ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਦੇਹ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

नित नित काइआ मजनु कीआ नित मलि मलि देह सवारे ॥

Nit nit kaaiaa majanu keeaa nit mali mali deh savaare ||

He may constantly and continually wash his body; he may constantly rub, clean and polish his body.

ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਬਚਨ ਨ ਭਾਏ ਸਭ ਫੋਕਟ ਚਾਰ ਸੀਗਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

मेरे सतिगुर के मनि बचन न भाए सभ फोकट चार सीगारे ॥३॥

Mere satigur ke mani bachan na bhaae sabh phokat chaar seegaare ||3||

But if the Word of my True Guru is not pleasing to his mind, then all his preparations and beautiful decorations are useless. ||3||

ਮਟਕਿ ਮਟਕਿ ਚਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਸਾਰੇ ॥

मटकि मटकि चलु सखी सहेली मेरे ठाकुर के गुन सारे ॥

Mataki mataki chalu sakhee sahelee mere thaakur ke gun saare ||

Walk playfully and carefree, O my friends and companions; cherish the Glorious Virtues of my Lord and Master.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਈ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਰੇ ॥੪॥

गुरमुखि सेवा मेरे प्रभ भाई मै सतिगुर अलखु लखारे ॥४॥

Guramukhi sevaa mere prbh bhaaee mai satigur alakhu lakhaare ||4||

To serve, as Gurmukh, is pleasing to my God. Through the True Guru, the unknown is known. ||4||

ਨਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਭ ਨਾਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥

नारी पुरखु पुरखु सभ नारी सभु एको पुरखु मुरारे ॥

Naaree purakhu purakhu sabh naaree sabhu eko purakhu muraare ||

Women and men, all the men and women, all came from the One Primal Lord God.

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੇਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੫॥

संत जना की रेनु मनि भाई मिलि हरि जन हरि निसतारे ॥५॥

Santt janaa kee renu mani bhaaee mili hari jan hari nisataare ||5||

My mind loves the dust of the feet of the humble; the Lord emancipates those who meet with the Lord's humble servants. ||5||

ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਨਗਰ ਸਭ ਫਿਰਿਆ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਭਾਰੇ ॥

ग्राम ग्राम नगर सभ फिरिआ रिद अंतरि हरि जन भारे ॥

Graam graam nagar sabh phiriaa rid anttari hari jan bhaare ||

From village to village, throughout all the cities I wandered; and then, inspired by the Lord's humble servants, I found Him deep within the nucleus of my heart.

ਸਰਧਾ ਸਰਧਾ ਉਪਾਇ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੬॥

सरधा सरधा उपाइ मिलाए मो कउ हरि गुर गुरि निसतारे ॥६॥

Saradhaa saradhaa upaai milaae mo kau hari gur guri nisataare ||6||

Faith and longing have welled up within me, and I have been blended with the Lord; the Guru, the Guru, has saved me. ||6||

ਪਵਨ ਸੂਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਨੀਕਾ ਕਰਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

पवन सूतु सभु नीका करिआ सतिगुरि सबदु वीचारे ॥

Pavan sootu sabhu neekaa kariaa satiguri sabadu veechaare ||

The thread of my breath has been made totally sublime and pure; I contemplate the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੈਨਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੭॥

निज घरि जाइ अम्रित रसु पीआ बिनु नैना जगतु निहारे ॥७॥

Nij ghari jaai ammmrit rasu peeaa binu nainaa jagatu nihaare ||7||

I came back to the home of my own inner self; drinking in the ambrosial essence, I see the world, without my eyes. ||7||

ਤਉ ਗੁਨ ਈਸ ਬਰਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਮੰਦਰ ਹਮ ਨਿਕ ਕੀਰੇ ॥

तउ गुन ईस बरनि नही साकउ तुम मंदर हम निक कीरे ॥

Tau gun ees barani nahee saakau tum manddar ham nik keere ||

I cannot describe Your Glorious Virtues, Lord; You are the temple, and I am just a tiny worm.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਮੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰੇ ॥੮॥੫॥

नानक क्रिपा करहु गुर मेलहु मै रामु जपत मनु धीरे ॥८॥५॥

Naanak kripaa karahu gur melahu mai raamu japat manu dheere ||8||5||

Bless Nanak with Your Mercy, and unite him with the Guru; meditating on my Lord, my mind is comforted and consoled. ||8||5||

Nat, Fourth Mehl:

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥

मेरे मन भजु ठाकुर अगम अपारे ॥

Mere man bhaju thaakur agam apaare ||

O my mind, vibrate, meditate on the inaccessible and infinite Lord and Master.

ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਬਹੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੀਆਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हम पापी बहु निरगुणीआरे करि किरपा गुरि निसतारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ham paapee bahu niragu(nn)eeaare kari kirapaa guri nisataare ||1|| rahaau ||

I am such a great sinner; I am so unworthy. And yet the Guru, in His Mercy, has saved me. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਾਧੂ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਪਾਏ ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

साधू पुरख साध जन पाए इक बिनउ करउ गुर पिआरे ॥

Saadhoo purakh saadh jan paae ik binau karau gur piaare ||

I have found the Holy Person, the Holy and humble servant of the Lord; I offer a prayer to Him, my Beloved Guru.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਪੂਜੀ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

राम नामु धनु पूजी देवहु सभु तिसना भूख निवारे ॥१॥

Raam naamu dhanu poojee devahu sabhu tisanaa bhookh nivaare ||1||

Please, bless me with the wealth, the capital of the Lord's Name, and take away all my hunger and thirst. ||1||

ਪਚੈ ਪਤੰਗੁ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਭ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਕੁੰਚਰ ਮੀਨ ਇਕ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਪਕਰਿ ਸਘਾਰੇ ॥

पचै पतंगु म्रिग भ्रिंग कुंचर मीन इक इंद्री पकरि सघारे ॥

Pachai patanggu mrig bhringg kuncchar meen ik ianddree pakari saghaare ||

The moth, the deer, the bumble bee, the elephant and the fish are ruined, each by the one passion that controls them.

ਪੰਚ ਭੂਤ ਸਬਲ ਹੈ ਦੇਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

पंच भूत सबल है देही गुरु सतिगुरु पाप निवारे ॥२॥

Pancch bhoot sabal hai dehee guru satiguru paap nivaare ||2||

The five powerful demons are in the body; the Guru, the True Guru turns out these sins. ||2||

ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਸੋਧਿ ਸੋਧਿ ਦੇਖੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਨਾਰਦ ਬਚਨ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ॥

सासत्र बेद सोधि सोधि देखे मुनि नारद बचन पुकारे ॥

Saasatr bed sodhi sodhi dekhe muni naarad bachan pukaare ||

I searched and searched through the Shaastras and the Vedas; Naarad the silent sage proclaimed these words as well.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

राम नामु पड़हु गति पावहु सतसंगति गुरि निसतारे ॥३॥

Raam naamu pa(rr)ahu gati paavahu satasanggati guri nisataare ||3||

Chanting the Lord's Name, salvation is attained; the Guru saves those in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||3||

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰੀ ਜਿਵ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਕਮਲੁ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ॥

प्रीतम प्रीति लगी प्रभ केरी जिव सूरजु कमलु निहारे ॥

Preetam preeti lagee prbh keree jiv sooraju kamalu nihaare ||

In love with the Beloved Lord God, one looks at Him as the lotus looks at the sun.

ਮੇਰ ਸੁਮੇਰ ਮੋਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਜਬ ਉਨਵੈ ਘਨ ਘਨਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥

मेर सुमेर मोरु बहु नाचै जब उनवै घन घनहारे ॥४॥

Mer sumer moru bahu naachai jab unavai ghan ghanahaare ||4||

The peacock dances on the mountain, when the clouds hang low and heavy. ||4||

ਸਾਕਤ ਕਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਹੁ ਸਿੰਚਹੁ ਸਭ ਡਾਲ ਫੂਲ ਬਿਸੁਕਾਰੇ ॥

साकत कउ अम्रित बहु सिंचहु सभ डाल फूल बिसुकारे ॥

Saakat kau ammmrit bahu sincchahu sabh daal phool bisukaare ||

The faithless cynic may be totally drenched with ambrosial nectar, but even so, all his branches and flowers are filled with venom.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਛੇੜਿ ਛੇੜਿ ਕਢੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਰੇ ॥੫॥

जिउ जिउ निवहि साकत नर सेती छेड़ि छेड़ि कढै बिखु खारे ॥५॥

Jiu jiu nivahi saakat nar setee chhe(rr)i chhe(rr)i kadhai bikhu khaare ||5||

The more one bows down in humility before the faithless cynic, the more he provokes, and stabs, and spits out his poison. ||5||

ਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਤ ਸਾਧ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਗੁਣ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੇ ॥

संतन संत साध मिलि रहीऐ गुण बोलहि परउपकारे ॥

Santtan santt saadh mili raheeai gu(nn) bolahi paraupakaare ||

Remain with the Holy man, the Saint of the Saints, who chants the Lord's Praises for the benefit of all.

ਸੰਤੈ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਮਲ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੬॥

संतै संतु मिलै मनु बिगसै जिउ जल मिलि कमल सवारे ॥६॥

Santtai santtu milai manu bigasai jiu jal mili kamal savaare ||6||

Meeting the Saint of Saints, the mind blossoms forth, like the lotus, exalted by obtaining the water. ||6||

ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਹਲਕੁ ਹੈ ਹਲਕਿਓ ਸਭਹਿ ਬਿਗਾਰੇ ॥

लोभ लहरि सभु सुआनु हलकु है हलकिओ सभहि बिगारे ॥

Lobh lahari sabhu suaanu halaku hai halakio sabhahi bigaare ||

The waves of greed are like mad dogs with rabies. Their madness ruins everything.

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੈ ਦੀਬਾਨਿ ਖਬਰਿ ਹੋੁਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਖੜਗੁ ਲੈ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੭॥

मेरे ठाकुर कै दीबानि खबरि होई गुरि गिआनु खड़गु लै मारे ॥७॥

Mere thaakur kai deebaani khabari haoee guri giaanu kha(rr)agu lai maare ||7||

When the news reached the Court of my Lord and Master, the Guru took up the sword of spiritual wisdom, and killed them. ||7||

ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੈ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

राखु राखु राखु प्रभ मेरे मै राखहु किरपा धारे ॥

Raakhu raakhu raakhu prbh mere mai raakhahu kirapaa dhaare ||

Save me, save me, save me, O my God; shower me with Your Mercy, and save me!

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਧਰ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੬॥ ਛਕਾ ੧ ॥

नानक मै धर अवर न काई मै सतिगुरु गुरु निसतारे ॥८॥६॥ छका १ ॥

Naanak mai dhar avar na kaaee mai satiguru guru nisataare ||8||6|| chhakaa 1 ||

O Nanak, I have no other support; the Guru, the True Guru, has saved me. ||8||6|| Chhakaa 1.||
