One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ਧਰਿਓ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥਾ ॥

मेरै हीअरै रतनु नामु हरि बसिआ गुरि हाथु धरिओ मेरै माथा ॥

Merai heearai ratanu naamu hari basiaa guri haathu dhario merai maathaa ||

The Jewel of the Lord's Name abides within my heart; the Guru has placed His hand on my forehead.

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਉਤਰੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਰਿਨੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥੧॥

जनम जनम के किलबिख दुख उतरे गुरि नामु दीओ रिनु लाथा ॥१॥

Janam janam ke kilabikh dukh utare guri naamu deeo rinu laathaa ||1||

The sins and pains of countless incarnations have been cast out. The Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and my debt has been paid off. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥

मेरे मन भजु राम नामु सभि अरथा ॥

Mere man bhaju raam naamu sabhi arathaa ||

O my mind, vibrate the Lord's Name, and all your affairs shall be resolved.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरि पूरै हरि नामु द्रिड़ाइआ बिनु नावै जीवनु बिरथा ॥ रहाउ ॥

Guri poorai hari naamu dri(rr)aaiaa binu naavai jeevanu birathaa || rahaau ||

The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord's Name within me; without the Name, life is useless. || Pause ||

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੂੜ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਫਾਥਾ ॥

बिनु गुर मूड़ भए है मनमुख ते मोह माइआ नित फाथा ॥

Binu gur moo(rr) bhae hai manamukh te moh maaiaa nit phaathaa ||

Without the Guru, the self-willed manmukhs are foolish and ignorant; they are forever entangled in emotional attachment to Maya.

ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਨ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਤਿਨ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਥਾ ॥੨॥

तिन साधू चरण न सेवे कबहू तिन सभु जनमु अकाथा ॥२॥

Tin saadhoo chara(nn) na seve kabahoo tin sabhu janamu akaathaa ||2||

They never serve the feet of the Holy; their lives are totally useless. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਨਾਥਾ ॥

जिन साधू चरण साध पग सेवे तिन सफलिओ जनमु सनाथा ॥

Jin saadhoo chara(nn) saadh pag seve tin saphalio janamu sanaathaa ||

Those who serve at the feet of the Holy, the feet of the Holy, their lives are made fruitful, and they belong to the Lord.

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥਾ ॥੩॥

मो कउ कीजै दासु दास दासन को हरि दइआ धारि जगंनाथा ॥३॥

Mo kau keejai daasu daas daasan ko hari daiaa dhaari jagannaathaa ||3||

Make me the slave of the slave of the slaves of the Lord; bless me with Your Mercy, O Lord of the Universe. ||3||

ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨਹੀਨ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਿਉ ਚਾਲਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਾ ॥

हम अंधुले गिआनहीन अगिआनी किउ चालह मारगि पंथा ॥

Ham anddhule giaanaheen agiaanee kiu chaalah maaragi pantthaa ||

I am blind, ignorant and totally without wisdom; how can I walk on the Path?

ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਚਲੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਲਹ ਮਿਲੰਥਾ ॥੪॥੧॥

हम अंधुले कउ गुर अंचलु दीजै जन नानक चलह मिलंथा ॥४॥१॥

Ham anddhule kau gur ancchalu deejai jan naanak chalah milantthaa ||4||1||

I am blind - O Guru, please let me grasp the hem of Your robe, so that servant Nanak may walk in harmony with You. ||4||1||

Jaitsree, Fourth Mehl:

ਹੀਰਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਾਹਕ ਮੀਕਾ ਕਾਖਾ ॥

हीरा लालु अमोलकु है भारी बिनु गाहक मीका काखा ॥

Heeraa laalu amolaku hai bhaaree binu gaahak meekaa kaakhaa ||

A jewel or a diamond may be very valuable and heavy, but without a purchaser, it is worth only straw.

ਰਤਨ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਤਬ ਰਤਨੁ ਬਿਕਾਨੋ ਲਾਖਾ ॥੧॥

रतन गाहकु गुरु साधू देखिओ तब रतनु बिकानो लाखा ॥१॥

Ratan gaahaku guru saadhoo dekhio tab ratanu bikaano laakhaa ||1||

When the Holy Guru, the Purchaser, saw this jewel, He purchased it for hundreds of thousands of dollars. ||1||

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਗੁਪਤ ਹੀਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਾ ॥

मेरै मनि गुपत हीरु हरि राखा ॥

Merai mani gupat heeru hari raakhaa ||

The Lord has kept this jewel hidden within my mind.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹੀਰੁ ਪਰਾਖਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

दीन दइआलि मिलाइओ गुरु साधू गुरि मिलिऐ हीरु पराखा ॥ रहाउ ॥

Deen daiaali milaaio guru saadhoo guri miliai heeru paraakhaa || rahaau ||

The Lord, merciful to the meek, led me to meet the Holy Guru; meeting the Guru, I came to appreciate this jewel. || Pause ||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕੋਠੀ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਤਿਨ ਘਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਖਾ ॥

मनमुख कोठी अगिआनु अंधेरा तिन घरि रतनु न लाखा ॥

Manamukh kothee agiaanu anddheraa tin ghari ratanu na laakhaa ||

The rooms of the self-willed manmukhs are dark with ignorance; in their homes, the jewel is not visible.

ਤੇ ਊਝੜਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਮੁਏ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਭੁਅੰਗ ਬਿਖੁ ਚਾਖਾ ॥੨॥

ते ऊझड़ि भरमि मुए गावारी माइआ भुअंग बिखु चाखा ॥२॥

Te ujha(rr)i bharami mue gaavaaree maaiaa bhuangg bikhu chaakhaa ||2||

Those fools die, wandering in the wilderness, eating the poison of the snake, Maya. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਜਨ ਨੀਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਹਮ ਰਾਖਾ ॥

हरि हरि साध मेलहु जन नीके हरि साधू सरणि हम राखा ॥

Hari hari saadh melahu jan neeke hari saadhoo sara(nn)i ham raakhaa ||

O Lord, Har, Har, let me meet the humble, holy beings; O Lord, keep me in the Sanctuary of the Holy.

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਪਰੇ ਭਾਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਪਾਖਾ ॥੩॥

हरि अंगीकारु करहु प्रभ सुआमी हम परे भागि तुम पाखा ॥३॥

Hari anggeekaaru karahu prbh suaamee ham pare bhaagi tum paakhaa ||3||

O Lord, make me Your own; O God, Lord and Master, I have hurried to Your side. ||3||

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਹ ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਅਗਮ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖਾ ॥

जिहवा किआ गुण आखि वखाणह तुम वड अगम वड पुरखा ॥

Jihavaa kiaa gu(nn) aakhi vakhaa(nn)ah tum vad agam vad purakhaa ||

What Glorious Virtues of Yours can I speak and describe? You are great and unfathomable, the Greatest Being.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਡੁਬਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

जन नानक हरि किरपा धारी पाखाणु डुबत हरि राखा ॥४॥२॥

Jan naanak hari kirapaa dhaaree paakhaa(nn)u dubat hari raakhaa ||4||2||

The Lord has bestowed His Mercy on servant Nanak; He has saved the sinking stone. ||4||2||

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਕਛੂਅ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਇਆਨਾ ॥

हम बारिक कछूअ न जानह गति मिति तेरे मूरख मुगध इआना ॥

Ham baarik kachhooa na jaanah gati miti tere moorakh mugadh iaanaa ||

I am Your child; I know nothing about Your state and extent; I am foolish, idiotic and ignorant.

ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥੧॥

हरि किरपा धारि दीजै मति ऊतम करि लीजै मुगधु सिआना ॥१॥

Hari kirapaa dhaari deejai mati utam kari leejai mugadhu siaanaa ||1||

O Lord, shower me with Your Mercy; bless me with an enlightened intellect; I am foolish - make me clever. ||1||

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਆਲਸੀਆ ਉਘਲਾਨਾ ॥

मेरा मनु आलसीआ उघलाना ॥

Meraa manu aalaseeaa ughalaanaa ||

My mind is lazy and sleepy.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਨਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हरि आनि मिलाइओ गुरु साधू मिलि साधू कपट खुलाना ॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari aani milaaio guru saadhoo mili saadhoo kapat khulaanaa || rahaau ||

The Lord, Har, Har, has led me to meet the Holy Guru; meeting the Holy, the shutters have been opened wide. || Pause ||

ਗੁਰ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਵਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥

गुर खिनु खिनु प्रीति लगावहु मेरै हीअरै मेरे प्रीतम नामु पराना ॥

Gur khinu khinu preeti lagaavahu merai heearai mere preetam naamu paraanaa ||

O Guru, each and every instant, fill my heart with love; the Name of my Beloved is my breath of life.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਜਿਉ ਅਮਲੀ ਅਮਲਿ ਲੁਭਾਨਾ ॥੨॥

बिनु नावै मरि जाईऐ मेरे ठाकुर जिउ अमली अमलि लुभाना ॥२॥

Binu naavai mari jaaeeai mere thaakur jiu amalee amali lubhaanaa ||2||

Without the Name, I would die; the Name of my Lord and Master is to me like the drug to the addict. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਭਾਗ ਪੁਰਾਨਾ ॥

जिन मनि प्रीति लगी हरि केरी तिन धुरि भाग पुराना ॥

Jin mani preeti lagee hari keree tin dhuri bhaag puraanaa ||

Those who enshrine love for the Lord within their minds fulfill their pre-ordained destiny.

ਤਿਨ ਹਮ ਚਰਣ ਸਰੇਵਹ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥੩॥

तिन हम चरण सरेवह खिनु खिनु जिन हरि मीठ लगाना ॥३॥

Tin ham chara(nn) sarevah khinu khinu jin hari meeth lagaanaa ||3||

I worship their feet, each and every instant; the Lord seems very sweet to them. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਛੁਰਿਆ ਚਿਰੀ ਮਿਲਾਨਾ ॥

हरि हरि क्रिपा धारी मेरै ठाकुरि जनु बिछुरिआ चिरी मिलाना ॥

Hari hari kripaa dhaaree merai thaakuri janu bichhuriaa chiree milaanaa ||

My Lord and Master, Har, Har, has showered His Mercy upon His humble servant; separated for so long, he is now re-united with the Lord.

ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੩॥

धनु धनु सतिगुरु जिनि नामु द्रिड़ाइआ जनु नानकु तिसु कुरबाना ॥४॥३॥

Dhanu dhanu satiguru jini naamu dri(rr)aaiaa janu naanaku tisu kurabaanaa ||4||3||

Blessed, blessed is the True Guru, who has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord within me; servant Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||4||3||

Jaitsree, Fourth Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਵਡ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਫਲ ਲਾਗਿਬਾ ॥

सतिगुरु साजनु पुरखु वड पाइआ हरि रसकि रसकि फल लागिबा ॥

Satiguru saajanu purakhu vad paaiaa hari rasaki rasaki phal laagibaa ||

I have found the True Guru, my Friend, the Greatest Being. Love and affection for the Lord has blossomed forth.

ਮਾਇਆ ਭੁਇਅੰਗ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਓ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਬਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਢਿਬਾ ॥੧॥

माइआ भुइअंग ग्रसिओ है प्राणी गुर बचनी बिसु हरि काढिबा ॥१॥

Maaiaa bhuiangg grsio hai praa(nn)ee gur bachanee bisu hari kaadhibaa ||1||

Maya, the snake, has seized the mortal; through the Word of the Guru, the Lord neutralizes the venom. ||1||

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਗਿਬਾ ॥

मेरा मनु राम नाम रसि लागिबा ॥

Meraa manu raam naam rasi laagibaa ||

My mind is attached to the sublime essence of the Lord's Name.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧ ਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਬਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि कीए पतित पवित्र मिलि साध गुर हरि नामै हरि रसु चाखिबा ॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari keee patit pavitr mili saadh gur hari naamai hari rasu chaakhibaa || rahaau ||

The Lord has purified the sinners, uniting them with the Holy Guru; now, they taste the Lord's Name, and the sublime essence of the Lord. || Pause ||

ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਵਡਭਾਗ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਲਿਵ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਲਾਗਿਬਾ ॥

धनु धनु वडभाग मिलिओ गुरु साधू मिलि साधू लिव उनमनि लागिबा ॥

Dhanu dhanu vadabhaag milio guru saadhoo mili saadhoo liv unamani laagibaa ||

Blessed, blessed is the good fortune of those who meet the Holy Guru; meeting with the Holy, they lovingly center themselves in the state of absolute absorption.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇਬਾ ॥੨॥

त्रिसना अगनि बुझी सांति पाई हरि निरमल निरमल गुन गाइबा ॥२॥

Trisanaa agani bujhee saanti paaee hari niramal niramal gun gaaibaa ||2||

The fire of desire within them is quenched, and they find peace; they sing the Glorious Praises of the Immaculate Lord. ||2||

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਭਾਗ ਖੀਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਬਾ ॥

तिन के भाग खीन धुरि पाए जिन सतिगुर दरसु न पाइबा ॥

Tin ke bhaag kheen dhuri paae jin satigur darasu na paaibaa ||

Those who do not obtain the Blessed Vision of the True Guru's Darshan, have misfortune pre-ordained for them.

ਤੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਵਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਭ ਜੋਨੀ ਸਭੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਿਨ ਜਾਇਬਾ ॥੩॥

ते दूजै भाइ पवहि ग्रभ जोनी सभु बिरथा जनमु तिन जाइबा ॥३॥

Te doojai bhaai pavahi grbh jonee sabhu birathaa janamu tin jaaibaa ||3||

In the love of duality, they are consigned to reincarnation through the womb, and they pass their lives totally uselessly. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਸੇਵਹ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਇਬਾ ॥

हरि देहु बिमल मति गुर साध पग सेवह हम हरि मीठ लगाइबा ॥

Hari dehu bimal mati gur saadh pag sevah ham hari meeth lagaaibaa ||

O Lord, please, bless me with pure understanding, that I may serve the Feet of the Holy Guru; the Lord seems sweet to me.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਰੇਣ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਮਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਿਵਾਇਬਾ ॥੪॥੪॥

जनु नानकु रेण साध पग मागै हरि होइ दइआलु दिवाइबा ॥४॥४॥

Janu naanaku re(nn) saadh pag maagai hari hoi daiaalu divaaibaa ||4||4||

Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of the Holy; O Lord, be Merciful, and bless me with it. ||4||4||

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਬਸਿਓ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਤ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਂਝਾ ॥

जिन हरि हिरदै नामु न बसिओ तिन मात कीजै हरि बांझा ॥

Jin hari hiradai naamu na basio tin maat keejai hari baanjhaa ||

The Lord's Name does not abide within their hearts - their mothers should have been sterile.

ਤਿਨ ਸੁੰਞੀ ਦੇਹ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਓਇ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮੁਏ ਕਰਾਂਝਾ ॥੧॥

तिन सुंञी देह फिरहि बिनु नावै ओइ खपि खपि मुए करांझा ॥१॥

Tin sun(ny)ee deh phirahi binu naavai oi khapi khapi mue karaanjhaa ||1||

These bodies wander around, forlorn and abandoned, without the Name; their lives waste away, and they die, crying out in pain. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਜਪਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਝਾ ॥

मेरे मन जपि राम नामु हरि माझा ॥

Mere man japi raam naamu hari maajhaa ||

O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, the Lord within you.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਦੀਓ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हरि क्रिपालि क्रिपा प्रभि धारी गुरि गिआनु दीओ मनु समझा ॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari kripaali kripaa prbhi dhaaree guri giaanu deeo manu samajhaa || rahaau ||

The Merciful Lord God, Har, Har, has showered me with His Mercy; the Guru has imparted spiritual wisdom to me, and my mind has been instructed. || Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਲਜੁਗਿ ਪਦੁ ਊਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਝਾ ॥

हरि कीरति कलजुगि पदु ऊतमु हरि पाईऐ सतिगुर माझा ॥

Hari keerati kalajugi padu utamu hari paaeeai satigur maajhaa ||

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise brings the most noble and exalted status; the Lord is found through the True Guru.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਝਾ ॥੨॥

हउ बलिहारी सतिगुर अपुने जिनि गुपतु नामु परगाझा ॥२॥

Hau balihaaree satigur apune jini gupatu naamu paragaajhaa ||2||

I am a sacrifice to my True Guru, who has revealed the Lord's hidden Name to me. ||2||

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਗਏ ਗਵਾਝਾ ॥

दरसनु साध मिलिओ वडभागी सभि किलबिख गए गवाझा ॥

Darasanu saadh milio vadabhaagee sabhi kilabikh gae gavaajhaa ||

By great good fortune, I obtained the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the Holy; it removes all stains of sin.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡ ਦਾਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਝਾ ॥੩॥

सतिगुरु साहु पाइआ वड दाणा हरि कीए बहु गुण साझा ॥३॥

Satiguru saahu paaiaa vad daa(nn)aa hari keee bahu gu(nn) saajhaa ||3||

I have found the True Guru, the great, all-knowing King; He has shared with me the many Glorious Virtues of the Lord. ||3||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਮਨ ਮਾਝਾ ॥

जिन कउ क्रिपा करी जगजीवनि हरि उरि धारिओ मन माझा ॥

Jin kau kripaa karee jagajeevani hari uri dhaario man maajhaa ||

Those, unto whom the Lord, the Life of the world, has shown Mercy, enshrine Him within their hearts, and cherish Him in their minds.

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਦਰਿ ਕਾਗਦ ਫਾਰੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖਾ ਸਮਝਾ ॥੪॥੫॥

धरम राइ दरि कागद फारे जन नानक लेखा समझा ॥४॥५॥

Dharam raai dari kaagad phaare jan naanak lekhaa samajhaa ||4||5||

The Righteous Judge of Dharma, in the Court of the Lord, has torn up my papers; servant Nanak's account has been settled. ||4||5||

सतसंगति साध पाई वडभागी मनु चलतौ भइओ अरूड़ा ॥

Satasanggati saadh paaee vadabhaagee manu chalatau bhaio aroo(rr)aa ||

In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I found the Holy, by great good fortune; my restless mind has been quieted.

ਅਨਹਤ ਧੁਨਿ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਵਾਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰ ਰਸਿ ਲੀੜਾ ॥੧॥

अनहत धुनि वाजहि नित वाजे हरि अम्रित धार रसि लीड़ा ॥१॥

Anahat dhuni vaajahi nit vaaje hari ammmrit dhaar rasi lee(rr)aa ||1||

The unstruck melody ever vibrates and resounds; I have taken in the sublime essence of the Lord's Ambrosial Nectar, showering down. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਜਪਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੂੜਾ ॥

मेरे मन जपि राम नामु हरि रूड़ा ॥

Mere man japi raam naamu hari roo(rr)aa ||

O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, the beauteous Lord.

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਲਾਇ ਝਪੀੜਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मेरै मनि तनि प्रीति लगाई सतिगुरि हरि मिलिओ लाइ झपीड़ा ॥ रहाउ ॥

Merai mani tani preeti lagaaee satiguri hari milio laai jhapee(rr)aa || rahaau ||

The True Guru has drenched my mind and body with the Love of the Lord, who has met me and lovingly embraced me. || Pause ||

ਸਾਕਤ ਬੰਧ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਸੰਚਹਿ ਲਾਇ ਜਕੀੜਾ ॥

साकत बंध भए है माइआ बिखु संचहि लाइ जकीड़ा ॥

Saakat banddh bhae hai maaiaa bikhu sancchahi laai jakee(rr)aa ||

The faithless cynics are bound and gagged in the chains of Maya; they are actively engaged, gathering in the poisonous wealth.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਰਥਿ ਖਰਚਿ ਨਹ ਸਾਕਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਪੀੜਾ ॥੨॥

हरि कै अरथि खरचि नह साकहि जमकालु सहहि सिरि पीड़ा ॥२॥

Hari kai arathi kharachi nah saakahi jamakaalu sahahi siri pee(rr)aa ||2||

They cannot spend this in harmony with the Lord, and so they must endure the pain which the Messenger of Death inflicts upon their heads. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਥਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਹੁ ਸਰਧਾ ਲਾਇ ਮੁਖਿ ਧੂੜਾ ॥

जिन हरि अरथि सरीरु लगाइआ गुर साधू बहु सरधा लाइ मुखि धूड़ा ॥

Jin hari arathi sareeru lagaaiaa gur saadhoo bahu saradhaa laai mukhi dhoo(rr)aa ||

The Holy Guru has dedicated His Being to the Lord's service; with great devotion apply the dust of His feet to your face.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਮਨਿ ਗੂੜਾ ॥੩॥

हलति पलति हरि सोभा पावहि हरि रंगु लगा मनि गूड़ा ॥३॥

Halati palati hari sobhaa paavahi hari ranggu lagaa mani goo(rr)aa ||3||

In this world and the next, you shall receive the Lord's honor, and your mind shall be imbued with the permanent color of the Lord's Love. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਜਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਮ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ॥

हरि हरि मेलि मेलि जन साधू हम साध जना का कीड़ा ॥

Hari hari meli meli jan saadhoo ham saadh janaa kaa kee(rr)aa ||

O Lord, Har, Har, please unite me with the Holy; compared to these Holy people, I am just a worm.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਪਗ ਸਾਧ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਹਰਿਓ ਮਨੁ ਮੂੜਾ ॥੪॥੬॥

जन नानक प्रीति लगी पग साध गुर मिलि साधू पाखाणु हरिओ मनु मूड़ा ॥४॥६॥

Jan naanak preeti lagee pag saadh gur mili saadhoo paakhaa(nn)u hario manu moo(rr)aa ||4||6||

Servant Nanak has enshrined love for the feet of the Holy Guru; meeting with this Holy One, my foolish, stone-like mind has blossomed forth in lush profusion. ||4||6||

Hari hari simarahu agam apaaraa ||

Remember in meditation the Lord, Har, Har, the unfathomable, infinite Lord.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥

जिसु सिमरत दुखु मिटै हमारा ॥

Jisu simarat dukhu mitai hamaaraa ||

Remembering Him in meditation, pains are dispelled.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥

हरि हरि सतिगुरु पुरखु मिलावहु गुरि मिलिऐ सुखु होई राम ॥१॥

Hari hari satiguru purakhu milaavahu guri miliai sukhu hoee raam ||1||

O Lord, Har, Har, lead me to meet the True Guru; meeting the Guru, I am at peace. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਮੀਤ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥

हरि गुण गावहु मीत हमारे ॥

Hari gu(nn) gaavahu meet hamaare ||

Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, O my friend.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

हरि हरि नामु रखहु उर धारे ॥

Hari hari naamu rakhahu ur dhaare ||

Cherish the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in your heart.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥

हरि हरि अम्रित बचन सुणावहु गुर मिलिऐ परगटु होई राम ॥२॥

Hari hari ammmrit bachan su(nn)aavahu gur miliai paragatu hoee raam ||2||

Read the Ambrosial Words of the Lord, Har, Har; meeting with the Guru, the Lord is revealed. ||2||

ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਧੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥

मधुसूदन हरि माधो प्राना ॥

Madhusoodan hari maadho praanaa ||

The Lord, the Slayer of demons, is my breath of life.

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥

मेरै मनि तनि अम्रित मीठ लगाना ॥

Merai mani tani ammmrit meeth lagaanaa ||

His Ambrosial Amrit is so sweet to my mind and body.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥

हरि हरि दइआ करहु गुरु मेलहु पुरखु निरंजनु सोई राम ॥३॥

Hari hari daiaa karahu guru melahu purakhu niranjjanu soee raam ||3||

O Lord, Har, Har, have mercy upon me, and lead me to meet the Guru, the immaculate Primal Being. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥

हरि हरि नामु सदा सुखदाता ॥

Hari hari naamu sadaa sukhadaataa ||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is forever the Giver of peace.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

हरि कै रंगि मेरा मनु राता ॥

Hari kai ranggi meraa manu raataa ||

My mind is imbued with the Lord's Love.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੧॥੭॥

हरि हरि महा पुरखु गुरु मेलहु गुर नानक नामि सुखु होई राम ॥४॥१॥७॥

Hari hari mahaa purakhu guru melahu gur naanak naami sukhu hoee raam ||4||1||7||

As Gurmukh, ever earn the profit of the Naam.

Implant within yourself devotion to the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har; sincerely dedicate yourself to the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

हरि हरि नामु दइआलु धिआहा ॥

Hari hari naamu daiaalu dhiaahaa ||

Meditate on the Name of the Merciful Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹਾ ॥

हरि कै रंगि सदा गुण गाहा ॥

Hari kai ranggi sadaa gu(nn) gaahaa ||

हरि हरि हरि जसु घूमरि पावहु मिलि सतसंगि ओमाहा राम ॥२॥

Hari hari hari jasu ghoomari paavahu mili satasanggi oumaahaa raam ||2||

Dance to the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har; meet with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, with sincerity. ||2||

ਆਉ ਸਖੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਹਾ ॥

आउ सखी हरि मेलि मिलाहा ॥

Aau sakhee hari meli milaahaa ||

Come, O companions - let us unite in the Lord's Union.

ਸੁਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥

सुणि हरि कथा नामु लै लाहा ॥

Su(nn)i hari kathaa naamu lai laahaa ||

Listening to the sermon of the Lord, earn the profit of the Naam.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥

Hari hari kripaa dhaari gur melahu guri miliai hari oumaahaa raam ||3||

O Lord, Har, Har, be merciful to me, and lead me to meet the Guru; meeting the Guru, a sincere yearning for the Lord wells up in me. ||3||

ਕਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਸੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥

करि कीरति जसु अगम अथाहा ॥

Kari keerati jasu agam athaahaa ||

Praise Him, the unfathomable and inaccessible Lord.

ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਗਾਵਾਹਾ ॥

खिनु खिनु राम नामु गावाहा ॥

Khinu khinu raam naamu gaavaahaa ||

Each and every moment, sing the Lord's Name.

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਧਾਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੨॥੮॥

मो कउ धारि क्रिपा मिलीऐ गुर दाते हरि नानक भगति ओमाहा राम ॥४॥२॥८॥

Mo kau dhaari kripaa mileeai gur daate hari naanak bhagati oumaahaa raam ||4||2||8||

Be merciful, and meet me, O Guru, Great Giver; Nanak yearns for the Lord's devotional worship. ||4||2||8||

With love and energetic affection, praise the Lord, the storehouse of Nectar.

ਮਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਭੀਨਾ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥

मनु राम नामि भीना लै लाहा ॥

Manu raam naami bheenaa lai laahaa ||

My mind is drenched with the Lord's Name, and so it earns this profit.

ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥

खिनु खिनु भगति करह दिनु राती गुरमति भगति ओमाहा राम ॥१॥

Khinu khinu bhagati karah dinu raatee guramati bhagati oumaahaa raam ||1||

Each and every moment, worship Him in devotion, day and night; through the Guru's Teachings, sincere love and devotion well up. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਪਾਹਾ ॥

हरि हरि गुण गोविंद जपाहा ॥

Hari hari gu(nn) govindd japaahaa ||

Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, Har, Har.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥

मनु तनु जीति सबदु लै लाहा ॥

Manu tanu jeeti sabadu lai laahaa ||

Conquering mind and body, I have earned the profit of the Shabad.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਵਸਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਓਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥

गुरमति पंच दूत वसि आवहि मनि तनि हरि ओमाहा राम ॥२॥

Guramati pancch doot vasi aavahi mani tani hari omaahaa raam ||2||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the five demons are over-powered, and the mind and body are filled with a sincere yearning for the Lord. ||2||

ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਹਾ ॥

नामु रतनु हरि नामु जपाहा ॥

Naamu ratanu hari naamu japaahaa ||

The Name is a jewel - chant the Lord's Name.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥

हरि गुण गाइ सदा लै लाहा ॥

Hari gu(nn) gaai sadaa lai laahaa ||

Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and forever earn this profit.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਧੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥

दीन दइआल क्रिपा करि माधो हरि हरि नामु ओमाहा राम ॥३॥

Deen daiaal kripaa kari maadho hari hari naamu oumaahaa raam ||3||

O Lord, merciful to the meek, be kind to me, and bless me with sincere longing for the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||

ਜਪਿ ਜਗਦੀਸੁ ਜਪਉ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਾ ॥

जपि जगदीसु जपउ मन माहा ॥

Japi jagadeesu japau man maahaa ||

Meditate on the Lord of the world - meditate within your mind.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥੁ ਜਗਿ ਲਾਹਾ ॥

हरि हरि जगंनाथु जगि लाहा ॥

Hari hari jagannaathu jagi laahaa ||

The Lord of the Universe, Har, Har, is the only real profit in this world.

Jaitsree, Fourth Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਾਹਾ ॥

आपे जोगी जुगति जुगाहा ॥

Aape jogee jugati jugaahaa ||

He Himself is the Yogi, and the way throughout the ages.

ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਹਾ ॥

आपे निरभउ ताड़ी लाहा ॥

Aape nirabhau taa(rr)ee laahaa ||

The Fearless Lord Himself is absorbed in Samaadhi.

ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥

आपे ही आपि आपि वरतै आपे नामि ओमाहा राम ॥१॥

Aape hee aapi aapi varatai aape naami oumaahaa raam ||1||

He Himself, all by Himself, is all-pervading; He Himself blesses us with sincere love for the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਆਪੇ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਦੀਪਾਹਾ ॥

आपे दीप लोअ दीपाहा ॥

Aape deep loa deepaahaa ||

He Himself is the lamp, and the Light pervading all the worlds.

ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਮਥਾਹਾ ॥

आपे सतिगुरु समुंदु मथाहा ॥

Aape satiguru samunddu mathaahaa ||

He Himself is the True Guru; He Himself churns the ocean.

ਆਪੇ ਮਥਿ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢਾਏ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥

आपे मथि मथि ततु कढाए जपि नामु रतनु ओमाहा राम ॥२॥

Aape mathi mathi tatu kadhaae japi naamu ratanu oumaahaa raam ||2||

He Himself churns it, churning up the essence; meditating on the jewel of the Naam, sincere love comes to the surface. ||2||

ਸਖੀ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਹਾ ॥

सखी मिलहु मिलि गुण गावाहा ॥

Sakhee milahu mili gu(nn) gaavaahaa ||

O my companions, let us meet and join together, and sing His Glorious Praises.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਹਾ ॥

गुरमुखि नामु जपहु हरि लाहा ॥

Guramukhi naamu japahu hari laahaa ||

As Gurmukh, chant the Naam, and earn the profit of the Lord's Name.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੀ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥

हरि हरि भगति द्रिड़ी मनि भाई हरि हरि नामु ओमाहा राम ॥३॥

Hari hari bhagati dri(rr)ee mani bhaaee hari hari naamu oumaahaa raam ||3||

Devotional worship of the Lord, Har, Har, has been implanted within me; it is pleasing to my mind. The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, brings a sincere love. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਵਡ ਦਾਣਾ ਵਡ ਸਾਹਾ ॥

आपे वड दाणा वड साहा ॥

Aape vad daa(nn)aa vad saahaa ||

He Himself is supremely wise, the greatest King.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਹਾ ॥

गुरमुखि पूंजी नामु विसाहा ॥

Guramukhi poonjjee naamu visaahaa ||

As Gurmukh, purchase the merchandise of the Naam.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੦॥

हरि हरि दाति करहु प्रभ भावै गुण नानक नामु ओमाहा राम ॥४॥४॥१०॥

Hari hari daati karahu prbh bhaavai gu(nn) naanak naamu oumaahaa raam ||4||4||10||

O Lord God, Har, Har, bless me with such a gift, that Your Glorious Virtues seem pleasing to me; Nanak is filled with sincere love and yearning for the Lord. ||4||4||10||

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਰਾਹਾ ॥

मिलि सतसंगति संगि गुराहा ॥

Mili satasanggati sanggi guraahaa ||

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and associating with the Guru,

ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਸਾਹਾ ॥

पूंजी नामु गुरमुखि वेसाहा ॥

Poonjjee naamu guramukhi vesaahaa ||

The Gurmukh gathers in the merchandise of the Naam.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥

हरि हरि क्रिपा धारि मधुसूदन मिलि सतसंगि ओमाहा राम ॥१॥

Hari hari kripaa dhaari madhusoodan mili satasanggi oumaahaa raam ||1||

O Lord, Har, Har, Destroyer of demons, have mercy upon me; bless me with a sincere yearning to join the Sat Sangat. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਸ੍ਰਵਣਿ ਸੁਣਾਹਾ ॥

हरि गुण बाणी स्रवणि सुणाहा ॥

Hari gu(nn) baa(nn)ee srva(nn)i su(nn)aahaa ||

Let me hear with my ears the Banis, the Hymns, in praise of the Lord;

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਹਾ ॥

करि किरपा सतिगुरू मिलाहा ॥

Kari kirapaa satiguroo milaahaa ||

Be merciful, and let me meet the True Guru.

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਗੁਣ ਬੋਲਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਜਪਿ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥

गुण गावह गुण बोलह बाणी हरि गुण जपि ओमाहा राम ॥२॥

Gu(nn) gaavah gu(nn) bolah baa(nn)ee hari gu(nn) japi oumaahaa raam ||2||

I sing His Glorious Praises, I speak the Bani of His Word; chanting His Glorious Praises, a sincere yearning for the Lord wells up. ||2||

ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਰਤ ਜਗ ਪੁੰਨ ਤੋੁਲਾਹਾ ॥

सभि तीरथ वरत जग पुंन तोलाहा ॥

Sabhi teerath varat jag punn taolaahaa ||

I have tried visiting all the sacred shrines of pilgrimage, fasting, ceremonial feasts and giving to charities.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਪੁਜਹਿ ਪੁਜਾਹਾ ॥

हरि हरि नाम न पुजहि पुजाहा ॥

Hari hari naam na pujahi pujaahaa ||

They do not measure up to the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਤੋਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਪਿ ਓੁਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥

हरि हरि अतुलु तोलु अति भारी गुरमति जपि ओमाहा राम ॥३॥

Hari hari atulu tolu ati bhaaree guramati japi oumaahaa raam ||3||

The Lord's Name is unweighable, utterly heavy in weight; through the Guru's Teachings, a sincere yearning to chant the Name has welled up in me. ||3||

ਸਭਿ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਹਾ ॥

सभि करम धरम हरि नामु जपाहा ॥

Sabhi karam dharam hari naamu japaahaa ||

All good karma and righteous living are found in meditation on the Lord's Name.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਾਪ ਧੋਵਾਹਾ ॥

किलविख मैलु पाप धोवाहा ॥

Kilavikh mailu paap dhovaahaa ||

It washes away the stains of sins and mistakes.

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋਹੁ ਜਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਓਮਾਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੧॥

दीन दइआल होहु जन ऊपरि देहु नानक नामु ओमाहा राम ॥४॥५॥११॥

Deen daiaal hohu jan upari dehu naanak naamu omaahaa raam ||4||5||11||

Be merciful to meek, humble Nanak; bless him with sincere love and yearning for the Lord. ||4||5||11||

ਕੋਈ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਈਹਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੀਤੁ ॥

कोई जानै कवनु ईहा जगि मीतु ॥

Koee jaanai kavanu eehaa jagi meetu ||

Does anyone know, who is our friend in this world?

ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिसु होइ क्रिपालु सोई बिधि बूझै ता की निरमल रीति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jisu hoi kripaalu soee bidhi boojhai taa kee niramal reeti ||1|| rahaau ||

He alone understands this, whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy. Immaculate and unstained is his way of life. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਅਰੁ ਭਾਈ ॥

मात पिता बनिता सुत बंधप इसट मीत अरु भाई ॥

Maat pitaa banitaa sut banddhap isat meet aru bhaaee ||

Mother, father, spouse, children, relatives, lovers, friends and siblings,

ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਅੰਤਹਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥

पूरब जनम के मिले संजोगी अंतहि को न सहाई ॥१॥

Poorab janam ke mile sanjjogee anttahi ko na sahaaee ||1||

meet, having been associated in previous lives; but none of them will be your companion and support in the end. ||1||

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਮਾਲ ਕਨਿਕ ਲਾਲ ਹੀਰਾ ਮਨ ਰੰਜਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

मुकति माल कनिक लाल हीरा मन रंजन की माइआ ॥

Mukati maal kanik laal heeraa man ranjjan kee maaiaa ||

Pearl necklaces, gold, rubies and diamonds please the mind, but they are only Maya.

ਹਾ ਹਾ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ਅਵਧਹਿ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

हा हा करत बिहानी अवधहि ता महि संतोखु न पाइआ ॥२॥

Haa haa karat bihaanee avadhahi taa mahi santtokhu na paaiaa ||2||

Possessing them, one passes his life in agony; he obtains no contentment from them. ||2||

ਹਸਤਿ ਰਥ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਪਵਨ ਤੇਜ ਧਣੀ ਭੂਮਨ ਚਤੁਰਾਂਗਾ ॥

हसति रथ अस्व पवन तेज धणी भूमन चतुरांगा ॥

Hasati rath asv pavan tej dha(nn)ee bhooman chaturaangaa ||

Elephants, chariots, horses as fast as the wind, wealth, land, and armies of four kinds

ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲਿਓ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਛੂਐ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਇਓ ਨਾਂਗਾ ॥੩॥

संगि न चालिओ इन महि कछूऐ ऊठि सिधाइओ नांगा ॥३॥

Sanggi na chaalio in mahi kachhooai uthi sidhaaio naangaa ||3||

- none of these will go with him; he must get up and depart, naked. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥

हरि के संत प्रिअ प्रीतम प्रभ के ता कै हरि हरि गाईऐ ॥

Hari ke santt pria preetam prbh ke taa kai hari hari gaaeeai ||

The Lord's Saints are the beloved lovers of God; sing of the Lord, Har, Har, with them.

ਨਾਨਕ ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੧॥

नानक ईहा सुखु आगै मुख ऊजल संगि संतन कै पाईऐ ॥४॥१॥

Naanak eehaa sukhu aagai mukh ujal sanggi santtan kai paaeeai ||4||1||

O Nanak, in the Society of the Saints, you shall obtain peace in this world, and in the next world, your face shall be radiant and bright. ||4||1||

ਬਿਸਮੁ ਭਈ ਮੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੁਨਤੇ ਕਹਹੁ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਸਹੀਅਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

बिसमु भई मै बहु बिधि सुनते कहहु सुहागनि सहीअउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Bisamu bhaee mai bahu bidhi sunate kahahu suhaagani saheeau ||1|| rahaau ||

I am wonder-struck, hearing the many reports of Him; tell them to me, O my happy sister soul-brides. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕੋ ਕਹਤੋ ਸਭ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਕਹਤੋ ਸਭ ਮਹੀਅਉ ॥

को कहतो सभ बाहरि बाहरि को कहतो सभ महीअउ ॥

Ko kahato sabh baahari baahari ko kahato sabh maheeau ||

Some say that He is beyond the world - totally beyond it, while others say that He is totally within it.

ਬਰਨੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਸਾਤਿ ਬੁਝਹੀਅਉ ॥੧॥

बरनु न दीसै चिहनु न लखीऐ सुहागनि साति बुझहीअउ ॥१॥

Baranu na deesai chihanu na lakheeai suhaagani saati bujhaheeau ||1||

His color cannot be seen, and His pattern cannot be discerned. O happy soul-brides, tell me the truth! ||1||

ਸਰਬ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਾਸੀ ਲੇਪੁ ਨਹੀ ਅਲਪਹੀਅਉ ॥

सरब निवासी घटि घटि वासी लेपु नही अलपहीअउ ॥

Sarab nivaasee ghati ghati vaasee lepu nahee alapaheeau ||

He is pervading everywhere, and He dwells in each and every heart; He is not stained - He is unstained.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹਤ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਲੋਗਾ ਸੰਤ ਰਸਨ ਕੋ ਬਸਹੀਅਉ ॥੨॥੧॥੨॥

नानकु कहत सुनहु रे लोगा संत रसन को बसहीअउ ॥२॥१॥२॥

Naanaku kahat sunahu re logaa santt rasan ko basaheeau ||2||1||2||

Says Nanak, listen, O people: He dwells upon the tongues of the Saints. ||2||1||2||

Dheerau suni dheerau prbh kau ||1|| rahaau ||

I am calmed, calmed and soothed, hearing of God. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਨੀਰਉ ਪੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਨੀਰਉ ॥੧॥

जीअ प्रान मनु तनु सभु अरपउ नीरउ पेखि प्रभ कउ नीरउ ॥१॥

Jeea praan manu tanu sabhu arapau neerau pekhi prbh kau neerau ||1||

I dedicate my soul, my breath of life, my mind, body and everything to Him: I behold God near, very near. ||1||

ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਬਡ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਗਹੀਰਉ ਪੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ॥੨॥

बेसुमार बेअंतु बड दाता मनहि गहीरउ पेखि प्रभ कउ ॥२॥

Besumaar beanttu bad daataa manahi gaheerau pekhi prbh kau ||2||

Beholding God, the inestimable, infinite and Great Giver, I cherish Him in my mind. ||2||

ਜੋ ਚਾਹਉ ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਵਉ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਉ ਜਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ॥੩॥

जो चाहउ सोई सोई पावउ आसा मनसा पूरउ जपि प्रभ कउ ॥३॥

Jo chaahau soee soee paavau aasaa manasaa poorau japi prbh kau ||3||

Whatever I wish for, I receive; my hopes and desires are fulfilled, meditating on God. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਦੂਖਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਝੂਰਉ ਬੁਝਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ॥੪॥੨॥੩॥

गुर प्रसादि नानक मनि वसिआ दूखि न कबहू झूरउ बुझि प्रभ कउ ॥४॥२॥३॥

Gur prsaadi naanak mani vasiaa dookhi na kabahoo jhoorau bujhi prbh kau ||4||2||3||

By Guru's Grace, God dwells in Nanak's mind; he never suffers or grieves, having realized God. ||4||2||3||

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਨੀਕੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

घरि घरि मंगल गावहु नीके घटि घटि तिसहि बसेरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ghari ghari manggal gaavahu neeke ghati ghati tisahi baseraa ||1|| rahaau ||

In each and every home, sing the sublime songs of rejoicing; He abides in each and every heart. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੂਖਿ ਅਰਾਧਨੁ ਦੂਖਿ ਅਰਾਧਨੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਬੇਰਾ ॥

सूखि अराधनु दूखि अराधनु बिसरै न काहू बेरा ॥

Sookhi araadhanu dookhi araadhanu bisarai na kaahoo beraa ||

In good times, worship and adore Him; in bad times, worship and adore Him; do not ever forget Him.

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਉਜਾਰਾ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ॥੧॥

नामु जपत कोटि सूर उजारा बिनसै भरमु अंधेरा ॥१॥

Naamu japat koti soor ujaaraa binasai bharamu anddheraa ||1||

Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the light of millions of suns shines forth, and the darkness of doubt is dispelled. ||1||

ਥਾਨਿ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸਭਨੀ ਜਾਈ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਤੇਰਾ ॥

थानि थनंतरि सभनी जाई जो दीसै सो तेरा ॥

संतसंगि पावै जो नानक तिसु बहुरि न होई है फेरा ॥२॥३॥४॥

Santtasanggi paavai jo naanak tisu bahuri na hoee hai pheraa ||2||3||4||

One who finds the Society of the Saints, O Nanak, is not consigned to reincarnation again. ||2||3||4||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਅਬ ਮੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੵਿ ॥

अब मै सुखु पाइओ गुर आग्यि ॥

Ab mai sukhu paaio gur aagyi ||

Now, I have found peace, bowing before the Guru.

ਤਜੀ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਚਿੰਤ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਅਹੰ ਛੋਡਿਓ ਹੈ ਤਿਆਗੵਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तजी सिआनप चिंत विसारी अहं छोडिओ है तिआग्यि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tajee siaanap chintt visaaree ahann chhodio hai tiaagyi ||1|| rahaau ||

I have abandoned cleverness, quieted my anxiety, and renounced my egotism. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਉ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਉ ਸਗਲ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੋਹੀਅਉ ਤਉ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਗਿ ॥

जउ देखउ तउ सगल मोहि मोहीअउ तउ सरनि परिओ गुर भागि ॥

Jau dekhau tau sagal mohi moheeau tau sarani pario gur bhaagi ||

When I looked, I saw that everyone was enticed by emotional attachment; then, I hurried to the Guru's Sanctuary.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਟਹਲ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਜਮਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਮੋਰੀ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੧॥

करि किरपा टहल हरि लाइओ तउ जमि छोडी मोरी लागि ॥१॥

Kari kirapaa tahal hari laaio tau jami chhodee moree laagi ||1||

In His Grace, the Guru engaged me in the Lord's service, and then, the Messenger of Death gave up pursuing me. ||1||

ਤਰਿਓ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਪਾਵਕ ਕੋ ਜਉ ਸੰਤ ਭੇਟੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗਿ ॥

तरिओ सागरु पावक को जउ संत भेटे वड भागि ॥

Tario saagaru paavak ko jau santt bhete vad bhaagi ||

I swam across the ocean of fire, when I met the Saints, through great good fortune.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੨॥੧॥੫॥

जन नानक सरब सुख पाए मोरो हरि चरनी चितु लागि ॥२॥१॥५॥

Jan naanak sarab sukh paae moro hari charanee chitu laagi ||2||1||5||

O servant Nanak, I have found total peace; my consciousness is attached to the Lord's feet. ||2||1||5||

Man mahi satigur dhiaanu dharaa ||

Within my mind, I cherish and meditate on the True Guru.

ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਓ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

द्रिड़्हिओ गिआनु मंत्रु हरि नामा प्रभ जीउ मइआ करा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Dri(rr)hio giaanu manttru hari naamaa prbh jeeu maiaa karaa ||1|| rahaau ||

He has implanted within me spiritual wisdom and the Mantra of the Lord's Name; Dear God has shown mercy to me. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਾਲ ਜਾਲ ਅਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ਛੁਟਕੇ ਜਮਹਿ ਡਰਾ ॥

काल जाल अरु महा जंजाला छुटके जमहि डरा ॥

Kaal jaal aru mahaa janjjaalaa chhutake jamahi daraa ||

Death's noose and its mighty entanglements have vanished, along with the fear of death.

ਆਇਓ ਦੁਖ ਹਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਕਰੁਣਾਪਤਿ ਗਹਿਓ ਚਰਣ ਆਸਰਾ ॥੧॥

आइओ दुख हरण सरण करुणापति गहिओ चरण आसरा ॥१॥

Aaio dukh hara(nn) sara(nn) karu(nn)aapati gahio chara(nn) aasaraa ||1||

I have come to the Sanctuary of the Merciful Lord, the Destroyer of pain; I am holding tight to the Support of His feet. ||1||

ਨਾਵ ਰੂਪ ਭਇਓ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਭਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾ ॥

नाव रूप भइओ साधसंगु भव निधि पारि परा ॥

Naav roop bhaio saadhasanggu bhav nidhi paari paraa ||

The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, has assumed the form of a boat, to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਓ ਗਤੁ ਥੀਓ ਭਰਮਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੨॥੨॥੬॥

अपिउ पीओ गतु थीओ भरमा कहु नानक अजरु जरा ॥२॥२॥६॥

Apiu peeo gatu theeo bharamaa kahu naanak ajaru jaraa ||2||2||6||

I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar, and my doubts are shattered; says Nanak, I can bear the unbearable. ||2||2||6||

One who has the Lord of the Universe as his help and support

ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਉ ਵਾ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सूख सहज आनंद सगल सिउ वा कउ बिआधि न काई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sookh sahaj aanandd sagal siu vaa kau biaadhi na kaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Is blessed with all peace, poise and bliss; no afflictions cling to him. ||1|| Pause ||

ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਅਲੇਪਾ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਉਨ ਮਾਈ ॥

दीसहि सभ संगि रहहि अलेपा नह विआपै उन माई ॥

Deesahi sabh sanggi rahahi alepaa nah viaapai un maaee ||

He appears to keep company with everyone, but he remains detached, and Maya does not cling to him.

ਏਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਤਤ ਕੇ ਬੇਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥

एकै रंगि तत के बेते सतिगुर ते बुधि पाई ॥१॥

Ekai ranggi tat ke bete satigur te budhi paaee ||1||

He is absorbed in love of the One Lord; he understands the essence of reality, and he is blessed with wisdom by the True Guru. ||1||

ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਈ ਸੰਤ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥

दइआ मइआ किरपा ठाकुर की सेई संत सुभाई ॥

Daiaa maiaa kirapaa thaakur kee seee santt subhaaee ||

Those whom the Lord and Master blesses with His kindness, compassion and mercy are the sublime and sanctified Saints.

ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ਜਿਨ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥੩॥੭॥

तिन कै संगि नानक निसतरीऐ जिन रसि रसि हरि गुन गाई ॥२॥३॥७॥

Tin kai sanggi naanak nisatareeai jin rasi rasi hari gun gaaee ||2||3||7||

Associating with them, Nanak is saved; with love and exuberant joy, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||3||7||

Gobindd jeevan praan dhan roop ||

The Lord of the Universe is my existence, my breath of life, wealth and beauty.

ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਮਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अगिआन मोह मगन महा प्रानी अंधिआरे महि दीप ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Agiaan moh magan mahaa praanee anddhiaare mahi deep ||1|| rahaau ||

The ignorant are totally intoxicated with emotional attachment; in this darkness, the Lord is the only lamp. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਆਨੂਪ ॥

सफल दरसनु तुमरा प्रभ प्रीतम चरन कमल आनूप ॥

Saphal darasanu tumaraa prbh preetam charan kamal aanoop ||

Fruitful is the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, O Beloved God; Your lotus feet are incomparably beautiful!

ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਕਰਉ ਤਿਹ ਬੰਦਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਚਰ੍ਹਾਵਉ ਧੂਪ ॥੧॥

अनिक बार करउ तिह बंदन मनहि चर्हावउ धूप ॥१॥

Anik baar karau tih banddan manahi charhaavau dhoop ||1||

So many times, I bow in reverence to Him, offering my mind as incense to Him. ||1||

ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਹੀ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਲੂਕ ॥

हारि परिओ तुम्हरै प्रभ दुआरै द्रिड़्हु करि गही तुम्हारी लूक ॥

Haari pario tumhrai prbh duaarai dri(rr)hu kari gahee tumhaaree look ||

Exhausted, I have fallen at Your Door, O God; I am holding tight to Your Support.

ਕਾਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਪਾਵਕ ਕੇ ਕੂਪ ॥੨॥੪॥੮॥

काढि लेहु नानक अपुने कउ संसार पावक के कूप ॥२॥४॥८॥

Kaadhi lehu naanak apune kau sanssaar paavak ke koop ||2||4||8||

Please, lift Your humble servant Nanak up, out of the pit of fire of the world. ||2||4||8||

If only someone would unite me with the Lord!

ਚਰਨ ਗਹਉ ਬਕਉ ਸੁਭ ਰਸਨਾ ਦੀਜਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਕੋਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

चरन गहउ बकउ सुभ रसना दीजहि प्रान अकोरि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Charan gahau bakau subh rasanaa deejahi praan akori ||1|| rahaau ||

I hold tight to His feet, and utter sweet words with my tongue; I make my breath of life an offering to Him. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਤ ਕਿਆਰੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਿੰਚੈ ਸੁਧਾ ਸੰਜੋਰਿ ॥

मनु तनु निरमल करत किआरो हरि सिंचै सुधा संजोरि ॥

Manu tanu niramal karat kiaaro hari sincchai sudhaa sanjjori ||

I make my mind and body into pure little gardens, and irrigate them with the sublime essence of the Lord.

ਇਆ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਹੋਤ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਤੋਰਿ ॥੧॥

इआ रस महि मगनु होत किरपा ते महा बिखिआ ते तोरि ॥१॥

Iaa ras mahi maganu hot kirapaa te mahaa bikhiaa te tori ||1||

I am drenched with this sublime essence by His Grace, and the powerful hold of Maya's corruption has been broken. ||1||

ਆਇਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੀ ਓਰਿ ॥

आइओ सरणि दीन दुख भंजन चितवउ तुम्हरी ओरि ॥

Aaio sara(nn)i deen dukh bhanjjan chitavau tumhree ori ||

I have come to Your Sanctuary, O Destroyer of the suffering of the innocent; I keep my consciousness focused on You.

ਅਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੋਰਿ ॥੨॥੫॥੯॥

अभै पदु दानु सिमरनु सुआमी को प्रभ नानक बंधन छोरि ॥२॥५॥९॥

Abhai padu daanu simaranu suaamee ko prbh naanak banddhan chhori ||2||5||9||

Bless me with the gifts of the state of fearlessness, and meditative remembrance, Lord and Master; O Nanak, God is the Breaker of bonds. ||2||5||9||

The rainbird longs for the rain to fall.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੋ ਨੇਂਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

क्रिपा सिंधु करुणा प्रभ धारहु हरि प्रेम भगति को नेंह ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kripaa sinddhu karu(nn)aa prbh dhaarahu hari prem bhagati ko nenh ||1|| rahaau ||

O God, ocean of mercy, shower Your mercy on me, that I may yearn for loving devotional worship of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਅਨਿਕ ਸੂਖ ਚਕਵੀ ਨਹੀ ਚਾਹਤ ਅਨਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੇਖਿ ਦੇਂਹ ॥

अनिक सूख चकवी नही चाहत अनद पूरन पेखि देंह ॥

Anik sookh chakavee nahee chaahat anad pooran pekhi denh ||

The chakvi duck does not desire many comforts, but it is filled with bliss upon seeing the dawn.

ਆਨ ਉਪਾਵ ਨ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੀਨਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਮਰਨਾ ਤੇਂਹ ॥੧॥

आन उपाव न जीवत मीना बिनु जल मरना तेंह ॥१॥

Aan upaav na jeevat meenaa binu jal maranaa tenh ||1||

The fish cannot survive any other way - without water, it dies. ||1||

ਹਮ ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣੀ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇਂਹ ॥

हम अनाथ नाथ हरि सरणी अपुनी क्रिपा करेंह ॥

Ham anaath naath hari sara(nn)ee apunee kripaa karenh ||

I am a helpless orphan - I seek Your Sanctuary, O My Lord and Master; please bless me with Your mercy.

ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਰਾਧੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਨ ਨ ਕੇਂਹ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੦॥

चरण कमल नानकु आराधै तिसु बिनु आन न केंह ॥२॥६॥१०॥

Chara(nn) kamal naanaku aaraadhai tisu binu aan na kenh ||2||6||10||

Nanak worships and adores the Lord's lotus feet; without Him, there is no other at all. ||2||6||10||

Mani tani basi rahe mere praan ||

The Lord, my very breath of life, abides in my mind and body.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਜਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

करि किरपा साधू संगि भेटे पूरन पुरख सुजान ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kari kirapaa saadhoo sanggi bhete pooran purakh sujaan ||1|| rahaau ||

Bless me with Your mercy, and unite me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O perfect, all-knowing Lord God. ||1|| Pause ||

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਅਉ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

प्रेम ठगउरी जिन कउ पाई तिन रसु पीअउ भारी ॥

Prem thagauree jin kau paaee tin rasu peeau bhaaree ||

Those, unto whom You give the intoxicating herb of Your Love, drink in the supreme sublime essence.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਵਨ ਹਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥

ता की कीमति कहणु न जाई कुदरति कवन हम्हारी ॥१॥

Taa kee keemati kaha(nn)u na jaaee kudarati kavan hamhaaree ||1||

I cannot describe their value; what power do I have? ||1||

ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਲੜਿ ਦਾਸ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਉਧਰੇ ਉਧਰਨਹਾਰੇ ॥

लाइ लए लड़ि दास जन अपुने उधरे उधरनहारे ॥

Laai lae la(rr)i daas jan apune udhare udharanahaare ||

The Lord attaches His humble servants to the hem of His robe, and they swim across the world-ocean.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੧॥

प्रभु सिमरि सिमरि सिमरि सुखु पाइओ नानक सरणि दुआरे ॥२॥७॥११॥

Prbhu simari simari simari sukhu paaio naanak sara(nn)i duaare ||2||7||11||

Meditating, meditating, meditating in remembrance on God, peace is obtained; Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of Your Door. ||2||7||11||

After wandering through so many incarnations, I have come to Your Sanctuary.

ਉਧਰੁ ਦੇਹ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਚਰਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

उधरु देह अंध कूप ते लावहु अपुनी चरणी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Udharu deh anddh koop te laavahu apunee chara(nn)ee ||1|| rahaau ||

Save me - lift my body up out of the deep, dark pit of the world, and attach me to Your feet. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਣੀ ॥

गिआनु धिआनु किछु करमु न जाना नाहिन निरमल करणी ॥

Giaanu dhiaanu kichhu karamu na jaanaa naahin niramal kara(nn)ee ||

I do not know anything about spiritual wisdom, meditation or karma, and my way of life is not clean and pure.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਬਿਖਮ ਨਦੀ ਜਾਇ ਤਰਣੀ ॥੧॥

साधसंगति कै अंचलि लावहु बिखम नदी जाइ तरणी ॥१॥

Saadhasanggati kai ancchali laavahu bikham nadee jaai tara(nn)ee ||1||

Please attach me to the hem of the robe of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; help me to cross over the terrible river. ||1||

ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਸ ਮੀਠੇ ਇਹ ਨਹੀ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਧਰਣੀ ॥

सुख स्मपति माइआ रस मीठे इह नही मन महि धरणी ॥

Sukh samppati maaiaa ras meethe ih nahee man mahi dhara(nn)ee ||

Comforts, riches and the sweet pleasures of Maya - do not implant these within your mind.

ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਪਾਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਆਭਰਣੀ ॥੨॥੮॥੧੨॥

हरि दरसन त्रिपति नानक दास पावत हरि नाम रंग आभरणी ॥२॥८॥१२॥

Hari darasan tripati naanak daas paavat hari naam rangg aabhara(nn)ee ||2||8||12||

Slave Nanak is satisfied and satiated by the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan; his only ornamentation is the love of the Lord's Name. ||2||8||12||

Jaitsree, Fifth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮ ॥

हरि जन सिमरहु हिरदै राम ॥

Hari jan simarahu hiradai raam ||

O humble servants of the Lord, remember the Lord in meditation within your heart.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਅਪਦਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਦਾਸ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि जन कउ अपदा निकटि न आवै पूरन दास के काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari jan kau apadaa nikati na aavai pooran daas ke kaam ||1|| rahaau ||

Misfortune does not even approach the Lord's humble servant; the works of His slave are perfectly fulfilled. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਧਾਮ ॥

कोटि बिघन बिनसहि हरि सेवा निहचलु गोविद धाम ॥

Koti bighan binasahi hari sevaa nihachalu govid dhaam ||

Millions of obstacles are removed, by serving the Lord, and one enters into the eternal dwelling of the Lord of the Universe.

ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਕਉ ਭਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਦਰੁ ਦੇਵਤ ਜਾਮ ॥੧॥

भगवंत भगत कउ भउ किछु नाही आदरु देवत जाम ॥१॥

Bhagavantt bhagat kau bhau kichhu naahee aadaru devat jaam ||1||

The Lord's devotee is very fortunate; he has absolutely no fear. Even the Messenger of Death pays homage to him. ||1||

ਤਜਿ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਆਨ ਜੋ ਕਰਣੀ ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਖਾਮ ॥

तजि गोपाल आन जो करणी सोई सोई बिनसत खाम ॥

Taji gopaal aan jo kara(nn)ee soee soee binasat khaam ||

Forsaking the Lord of the world, he does other deeds, but these are temporary and transitory.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸਮੂਹ ਬਿਸਰਾਮ ॥੨॥੯॥੧੩॥

चरन कमल हिरदै गहु नानक सुख समूह बिसराम ॥२॥९॥१३॥

Charan kamal hiradai gahu naanak sukh samooh bisaraam ||2||9||13||

Grasp the Lord's lotus feet, and hold them in your heart, O Nanak; you shall obtain absolute peace and bliss. ||2||9||13||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਭੂਲਿਓ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ॥

भूलिओ मनु माइआ उरझाइओ ॥

Bhoolio manu maaiaa urajhaaio ||

My mind is deluded, entangled in Maya.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਓ ਲਾਲਚ ਲਗਿ ਤਿਹ ਤਿਹ ਆਪੁ ਬੰਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जो जो करम कीओ लालच लगि तिह तिह आपु बंधाइओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jo jo karam keeo laalach lagi tih tih aapu banddhaaio ||1|| rahaau ||

Whatever I do, while engaged in greed, only serves to bind me down. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਮਝ ਨ ਪਰੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਰਚਿਓ ਜਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਬਿਸਰਾਇਓ ॥

समझ न परी बिखै रस रचिओ जसु हरि को बिसराइओ ॥

Samajh na paree bikhai ras rachio jasu hari ko bisaraaio ||

I have no understanding at all; I am engrossed in the pleasures of corruption, and I have forgotten the Praises of the Lord.

ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਬਨੁ ਖੋਜਨ ਕਉ ਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥

संगि सुआमी सो जानिओ नाहिन बनु खोजन कउ धाइओ ॥१॥

Sanggi suaamee so jaanio naahin banu khojan kau dhaaio ||1||

The Lord and Master is with me, but I do not know Him. Instead, I run into the forest, looking for Him. ||1||

ਰਤਨੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਘਟ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ॥

रतनु रामु घट ही के भीतरि ता को गिआनु न पाइओ ॥

Ratanu raamu ghat hee ke bheetari taa ko giaanu na paaio ||

The Jewel of the Lord is deep within my heart, but I do not have any knowledge of Him.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਓ ॥੨॥੧॥

जन नानक भगवंत भजन बिनु बिरथा जनमु गवाइओ ॥२॥१॥

Jan naanak bhagavantt bhajan binu birathaa janamu gavaaio ||2||1||

O servant Nanak, without vibrating, meditating on the Lord God, human life is uselessly wasted and lost. ||2||1||

O Dear Lord, please, save my honor!

ਜਮ ਕੋ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਭਇਓ ਉਰ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਗਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जम को त्रास भइओ उर अंतरि सरनि गही किरपा निधि तेरी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jam ko traas bhaio ur anttari sarani gahee kirapaa nidhi teree ||1|| rahaau ||

The fear of death has entered my heart; I cling to the Protection of Your Sanctuary, O Lord, ocean of mercy. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਹਾ ਪਤਿਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਲੋਭੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਕਰਤ ਪਾਪ ਅਬ ਹਾਰਾ ॥

महा पतित मुगध लोभी फुनि करत पाप अब हारा ॥

Mahaa patit mugadh lobhee phuni karat paap ab haaraa ||

I am a great sinner, foolish and greedy; but now, at last, I have grown weary of committing sins.

ਭੈ ਮਰਬੇ ਕੋ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਤਿਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

भै मरबे को बिसरत नाहिन तिह चिंता तनु जारा ॥१॥

Bhai marabe ko bisarat naahin tih chinttaa tanu jaaraa ||1||

I cannot forget the fear of dying; this anxiety is consuming my body. ||1||

ਕੀਏ ਉਪਾਵ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਕਉ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥

कीए उपाव मुकति के कारनि दह दिसि कउ उठि धाइआ ॥

Keee upaav mukati ke kaarani dah disi kau uthi dhaaiaa ||

I have been trying to liberate myself, running around in the ten directions.

ਘਟ ਹੀ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਸੈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

घट ही भीतरि बसै निरंजनु ता को मरमु न पाइआ ॥२॥

Ghat hee bheetari basai niranjjanu taa ko maramu na paaiaa ||2||

The pure, immaculate Lord abides deep within my heart, but I do not understand the secret of His mystery. ||2||

ਨਾਹਿਨ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਕਛੁ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਅਬ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

नाहिन गुनु नाहिन कछु जपु तपु कउनु करमु अब कीजै ॥

Naahin gunu naahin kachhu japu tapu kaunu karamu ab keejai ||

I have no merit, and I know nothing about meditation or austerities; what should I do now?

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਰਨਾਗਤਿ ਅਭੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੩॥੨॥

नानक हारि परिओ सरनागति अभै दानु प्रभ दीजै ॥३॥२॥

Naanak haari pario saranaagati abhai daanu prbh deejai ||3||2||

O Nanak, I am exhausted; I seek the shelter of Your Sanctuary; O God, please bless me with the gift of fearlessness. ||3||2||

O mind, embrace true contemplation.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮਾਨੋ ਸਗਰੋ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

राम नाम बिनु मिथिआ मानो सगरो इहु संसारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Raam naam binu mithiaa maano sagaro ihu sanssaaraa ||1|| rahaau ||

Without the Lord's Name, know that this whole world is false. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਜੋਗੀ ਖੋਜਤ ਹਾਰੇ ਪਾਇਓ ਨਾਹਿ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਰਾ ॥

जा कउ जोगी खोजत हारे पाइओ नाहि तिह पारा ॥

Jaa kau jogee khojat haare paaio naahi tih paaraa ||

The Yogis are tired of searching for Him, but they have not found His limit.

ਸੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਮ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਪਛਾਨੋ ਰੂਪ ਰੇਖ ਤੇ ਨਿਆਰਾ ॥੧॥

सो सुआमी तुम निकटि पछानो रूप रेख ते निआरा ॥१॥

So suaamee tum nikati pachhaano roop rekh te niaaraa ||1||

You must understand that the Lord and Master is near at hand, but He has no form or feature. ||1||

ਪਾਵਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਕਬਹੂ ਨਾਹਿ ਸੰਭਾਰਾ ॥

पावन नामु जगत मै हरि को कबहू नाहि स्मभारा ॥

Paavan naamu jagat mai hari ko kabahoo naahi sambbhaaraa ||

The Naam, the Name of the Lord is purifying in the world, and yet you never remember it.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਜਗ ਬੰਦਨ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਤੁਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੩॥

नानक सरनि परिओ जग बंदन राखहु बिरदु तुहारा ॥२॥३॥

Naanak sarani pario jag banddan raakhahu biradu tuhaaraa ||2||3||

Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the One, before whom the whole world bows down; please, preserve and protect me, by Your innate nature. ||2||3||

ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨੀਤ ॥

दरसन पिआसी दिनसु राति चितवउ अनदिनु नीत ॥

Darasan piaasee dinasu raati chitavau anadinu neet ||

I am thirsty for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, day and night; I yearn for Him constantly, night and day.

ਖੋਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਕਪਟ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥

खोल्हि कपट गुरि मेलीआ नानक हरि संगि मीत ॥१॥

Kholhi kapat guri meleeaa naanak hari sanggi meet ||1||

Opening the door, O Nanak, the Guru has led me to meet with the Lord, my Friend. ||1||

ਸੁਣਿ ਯਾਰ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਸਜਣ ਇਕ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀਆ ॥

सुणि यार हमारे सजण इक करउ बेनंतीआ ॥

Su(nn)i yaar hamaare saja(nn) ik karau benantteeaa ||

Listen, O my intimate friend - I have just one prayer to make.

ਤਿਸੁ ਮੋਹਨ ਲਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਉ ਫਿਰਉ ਖੋਜੰਤੀਆ ॥

तिसु मोहन लाल पिआरे हउ फिरउ खोजंतीआ ॥

Tisu mohan laal piaare hau phirau khojantteeaa ||

I have been wandering around, searching for that enticing, sweet Beloved.

ਤਿਸੁ ਦਸਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰੀ ਉਤਾਰੇ ਇਕ ਭੋਰੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥

तिसु दसि पिआरे सिरु धरी उतारे इक भोरी दरसनु दीजै ॥

Tisu dasi piaare siru dharee utaare ik bhoree darasanu deejai ||

Whoever leads me to my Beloved - I would cut off my head and offer it to him, even if I were granted the Blessed Vision of His Darshan for just an instant.

ਨੈਨ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੰਗ ਰੰਗਾਰੇ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਭੀ ਨਾ ਧੀਰੀਜੈ ॥

नैन हमारे प्रिअ रंग रंगारे इकु तिलु भी ना धीरीजै ॥

Nain hamaare pria rangg ranggaare iku tilu bhee naa dheereejai ||

My eyes are drenched with the Love of my Beloved; without Him, I do not have even a moment's peace.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮੀਨਾ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਜਿਵੈ ਤਿਸੰਤੀਆ ॥

प्रभ सिउ मनु लीना जिउ जल मीना चात्रिक जिवै तिसंतीआ ॥

Prbh siu manu leenaa jiu jal meenaa chaatrik jivai tisantteeaa ||

My mind is attached to the Lord, like the fish to the water, and the rainbird, thirsty for the raindrops.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਗਲੀ ਤਿਖਾ ਬੁਝੰਤੀਆ ॥੧॥

जन नानक गुरु पूरा पाइआ सगली तिखा बुझंतीआ ॥१॥

Jan naanak guru pooraa paaiaa sagalee tikhaa bujhantteeaa ||1||

Servant Nanak has found the Perfect Guru; his thirst is totally quenched. ||1||

ਯਾਰ ਵੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਹਭੇ ਸਖੀਆ ਮੂ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜੇਹੀਆ ॥

यार वे प्रिअ हभे सखीआ मू कही न जेहीआ ॥

Yaar ve pria habhe sakheeaa moo kahee na jeheeaa ||

O intimate friend, my Beloved has all these loving companions; I cannot compare to any of them.

ਯਾਰ ਵੇ ਹਿਕ ਡੂੰ ਹਿਕਿ ਚਾੜੈ ਹਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਚਿਤੇਹੀਆ ॥

यार वे हिक डूं हिकि चाड़ै हउ किसु चितेहीआ ॥

Yaar ve hik doonn hiki chaa(rr)ai hau kisu chiteheeaa ||

O intimate friend, each of them is more beautiful than the others; who could consider me?

ਹਿਕ ਦੂੰ ਹਿਕਿ ਚਾੜੇ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸਾ ॥

हिक दूं हिकि चाड़े अनिक पिआरे नित करदे भोग बिलासा ॥

Hik doonn hiki chaa(rr)e anik piaare nit karade bhog bilaasaa ||

Each of them is more beautiful than the others; countless are His lovers, constantly enjoying bliss with Him.

ਤਿਨਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ਉਠੰਦਾ ਹਉ ਕਦਿ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਾ ॥

तिना देखि मनि चाउ उठंदा हउ कदि पाई गुणतासा ॥

Tinaa dekhi mani chaau uthanddaa hau kadi paaee gu(nn)ataasaa ||

Beholding them, desire wells up in my mind; when will I obtain the Lord, the treasure of virtue?

ਜਿਨੀ ਮੈਡਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਰੀਝਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਮਨੁ ਡੇਂਹੀਆ ॥

जिनी मैडा लालु रीझाइआ हउ तिसु आगै मनु डेंहीआ ॥

Jinee maidaa laalu reejhaaiaa hau tisu aagai manu denheeaa ||

I dedicate my mind to those who please and attract my Beloved.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਬਿਨਉ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਮੂ ਦਸਿ ਡਿਖਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਕੇਹੀਆ ॥੨॥

नानकु कहै सुणि बिनउ सुहागणि मू दसि डिखा पिरु केहीआ ॥२॥

Naanaku kahai su(nn)i binau suhaaga(nn)i moo dasi dikhaa piru keheeaa ||2||

Says Nanak, hear my prayer, O happy soul-brides; tell me, what does my Husband Lord look like? ||2||

ਯਾਰ ਵੇ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣ ਭਾਣਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨੀਸੀ ਛੰਦਾ ॥

यार वे पिरु आपण भाणा किछु नीसी छंदा ॥

Yaar ve piru aapa(nn) bhaa(nn)aa kichhu neesee chhanddaa ||

O intimate friend, my Husband Lord does whatever He pleases; He is not dependent on anyone.

ਯਾਰ ਵੇ ਤੈ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਲਾਲਨੁ ਮੂ ਦਸਿ ਦਸੰਦਾ ॥

यार वे तै राविआ लालनु मू दसि दसंदा ॥

Yaar ve tai raaviaa laalanu moo dasi dasanddaa ||

O intimate friend, you have enjoyed your Beloved; please, tell me about Him.

ਲਾਲਨੁ ਤੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਜੈ ਧਨ ਭਾਗ ਮਥਾਣੇ ॥

लालनु तै पाइआ आपु गवाइआ जै धन भाग मथाणे ॥

Laalanu tai paaiaa aapu gavaaiaa jai dhan bhaag mathaa(nn)e ||

They alone find their Beloved, who eradicate self-conceit; such is the good destiny written on their foreheads.

ਬਾਂਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਹਉ ਘਿਧੀ ਗੁਣ ਅਵਗਣ ਨ ਪਛਾਣੇ ॥

बांह पकड़ि ठाकुरि हउ घिधी गुण अवगण न पछाणे ॥

Baanh paka(rr)i thaakuri hau ghidhee gu(nn) avaga(nn) na pachhaa(nn)e ||

Taking me by the arm, the Lord and Master has made me His own; He has not considered my merits or demerits.

ਗੁਣ ਹਾਰੁ ਤੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਭੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੁਹੰਦਾ ॥

गुण हारु तै पाइआ रंगु लालु बणाइआ तिसु हभो किछु सुहंदा ॥

Gu(nn) haaru tai paaiaa ranggu laalu ba(nn)aaiaa tisu habho kichhu suhanddaa ||

She, whom You have adorned with the necklace of virtue, and dyed in the deep crimson color of His Love - everything looks beautiful on her.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਧੰਨਿ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਸਾਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਤਾਰੁ ਵਸੰਦਾ ॥੩॥

जन नानक धंनि सुहागणि साई जिसु संगि भतारु वसंदा ॥३॥

Jan naanak dhanni suhaaga(nn)i saaee jisu sanggi bhataaru vasanddaa ||3||

O servant Nanak, blessed is that happy soul-bride, who dwells with her Husband Lord. ||3||

ਯਾਰ ਵੇ ਨਿਤ ਸੁਖ ਸੁਖੇਦੀ ਸਾ ਮੈ ਪਾਈ ॥

यार वे नित सुख सुखेदी सा मै पाई ॥

Yaar ve nit sukh sukhedee saa mai paaee ||

O intimate friend, I have found that peace which I sought.

ਵਰੁ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥

वरु लोड़ीदा आइआ वजी वाधाई ॥

Varu lo(rr)eedaa aaiaa vajee vaadhaaee ||

My sought-after Husband Lord has come home, and now, congratulations are pouring in.

ਮਹਾ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਰਹਸੁ ਥੀਆ ਪਿਰੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਸਦ ਨਵ ਰੰਗੀਆ ॥

महा मंगलु रहसु थीआ पिरु दइआलु सद नव रंगीआ ॥

Mahaa manggalu rahasu theeaa piru daiaalu sad nav ranggeeaa ||

Great joy and happiness welled up, when my Husband Lord, of ever-fresh beauty, showed mercy to me.

ਵਡ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆ ॥

वड भागि पाइआ गुरि मिलाइआ साध कै सतसंगीआ ॥

Vad bhaagi paaiaa guri milaaiaa saadh kai satasanggeeaa ||

By great good fortune, I have found Him; the Guru has united me with Him, through the Saadh Sangat, the True Congregation of the Holy.

ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਗਲ ਪੂਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਅੰਕਿ ਅੰਕੁ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥

आसा मनसा सगल पूरी प्रिअ अंकि अंकु मिलाई ॥

Aasaa manasaa sagal pooree pria ankki ankku milaaee ||

My hopes and desires have all been fulfilled; my Beloved Husband Lord has hugged me close in His embrace.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਖ ਸੁਖੇਦੀ ਸਾ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥

बिनवंति नानकु सुख सुखेदी सा मै गुर मिलि पाई ॥४॥१॥

Binavantti naanaku sukh sukhedee saa mai gur mili paaee ||4||1||

Prays Nanak, I have found that peace which I sought, meeting with the Guru. ||4||1||

ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਕਥੁ ॥

ऊचा अगम अपार प्रभु कथनु न जाइ अकथु ॥

Uchaa agam apaar prbhu kathanu na jaai akathu ||

God is lofty, unapproachable and infinite. He is indescribable - He cannot be described.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥੧॥

नानक प्रभ सरणागती राखन कउ समरथु ॥१॥

Naanak prbh sara(nn)aagatee raakhan kau samarathu ||1||

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God, who is all-powerful to save us. ||1||

जिउ जानहु तिउ राखु हरि प्रभ तेरिआ ॥

Jiu jaanahu tiu raakhu hari prbh teriaa ||

Save me, any way You can; O Lord God, I am Yours.

ਕੇਤੇ ਗਨਉ ਅਸੰਖ ਅਵਗਣ ਮੇਰਿਆ ॥

केते गनउ असंख अवगण मेरिआ ॥

Kete ganau asankkh avaga(nn) meriaa ||

My demerits are uncountable; how many of them should I count?

ਅਸੰਖ ਅਵਗਣ ਖਤੇ ਫੇਰੇ ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਸਦ ਭੂਲੀਐ ॥

असंख अवगण खते फेरे नितप्रति सद भूलीऐ ॥

Asankkh avaga(nn) khate phere nitaprti sad bhooleeai ||

The sins and crimes I committed are countless; day by day, I continually make mistakes.

ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਘੂਲੀਐ ॥

मोह मगन बिकराल माइआ तउ प्रसादी घूलीऐ ॥

Moh magan bikaraal maaiaa tau prsaadee ghooleeai ||

I am intoxicated by emotional attachment to Maya, the treacherous one; by Your Grace alone can I be saved.

ਲੂਕ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨੇਰ ਹੂ ਤੇ ਨੇਰਿਆ ॥

लूक करत बिकार बिखड़े प्रभ नेर हू ते नेरिआ ॥

Look karat bikaar bikha(rr)e prbh ner hoo te neriaa ||

Secretly, I commit hideous sins of corruption, even though God is the nearest of the near.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਕਾਢਿ ਭਵਜਲ ਫੇਰਿਆ ॥੧॥

बिनवंति नानक दइआ धारहु काढि भवजल फेरिआ ॥१॥

Binavantti naanak daiaa dhaarahu kaadhi bhavajal pheriaa ||1||

Prays Nanak, shower me with Your Mercy, Lord, and lift me up, out of the whirlpool of the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||

ਨਿਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਅਸੰਖ ਗੁਣ ਊਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥

निरति न पवै असंख गुण ऊचा प्रभ का नाउ ॥

Nirati na pavai asankkh gu(nn) uchaa prbh kaa naau ||

Countless are His virtues; they cannot be enumerated. God's Name is lofty and exalted.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀਆ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥

नानक की बेनंतीआ मिलै निथावे थाउ ॥२॥

Naanak kee benantteeaa milai nithaave thaau ||2||

This is Nanak's humble prayer, to bless the homeless with a home. ||2||
