Raag Gauree Poorbee, Fourth Mehl:

ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

कामि करोधि नगरु बहु भरिआ मिलि साधू खंडल खंडा हे ॥

Kaami karodhi nagaru bahu bhariaa mili saadhoo khanddal khanddaa he ||

The body-village is filled to overflowing with anger and sexual desire; these were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਲਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

पूरबि लिखत लिखे गुरु पाइआ मनि हरि लिव मंडल मंडा हे ॥१॥

Poorabi likhat likhe guru paaiaa mani hari liv manddal manddaa he ||1||

By pre-ordained destiny, I have met with the Guru. I have entered into the realm of the Lord's Love. ||1||

ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਅੰਜੁਲੀ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

करि साधू अंजुली पुनु वडा हे ॥

Kari saadhoo anjjulee punu vadaa he ||

Greet the Holy Saint with your palms pressed together; this is an act of great merit.

ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡਉਤ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

करि डंडउत पुनु वडा हे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kari danddaut punu vadaa he ||1|| rahaau ||

Bow down before Him; this is a virtuous action indeed. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

साकत हरि रस सादु न जाणिआ तिन अंतरि हउमै कंडा हे ॥

Saakat hari ras saadu na jaa(nn)iaa tin anttari haumai kanddaa he ||

The wicked shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not know the Taste of the Lord's Sublime Essence. The thorn of egotism is embedded deep within them.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਚਲਹਿ ਚੁਭੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

जिउ जिउ चलहि चुभै दुखु पावहि जमकालु सहहि सिरि डंडा हे ॥२॥

Jiu jiu chalahi chubhai dukhu paavahi jamakaalu sahahi siri danddaa he ||2||

The more they walk away, the deeper it pierces them, and the more they suffer in pain, until finally, the Messenger of Death smashes his club against their heads. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

हरि जन हरि हरि नामि समाणे दुखु जनम मरण भव खंडा हे ॥

Hari jan hari hari naami samaa(nn)e dukhu janam mara(nn) bhav khanddaa he ||

The humble servants of the Lord are absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The pain of birth and the fear of death are eradicated.

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

अबिनासी पुरखु पाइआ परमेसरु बहु सोभ खंड ब्रहमंडा हे ॥३॥

Abinaasee purakhu paaiaa paramesaru bahu sobh khandd brhamanddaa he ||3||

They have found the Imperishable Supreme Being, the Transcendent Lord God, and they receive great honor throughout all the worlds and realms. ||3||

ਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਵਡ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

हम गरीब मसकीन प्रभ तेरे हरि राखु राखु वड वडा हे ॥

Ham gareeb masakeen prbh tere hari raakhu raakhu vad vadaa he ||

I am poor and meek, God, but I belong to You! Save me-please save me, O Greatest of the Great!

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੪॥

जन नानक नामु अधारु टेक है हरि नामे ही सुखु मंडा हे ॥४॥४॥

Jan naanak naamu adhaaru tek hai hari naame hee sukhu manddaa he ||4||4||

Servant Nanak takes the Sustenance and Support of the Naam. In the Name of the Lord, he enjoys celestial peace. ||4||4||

ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਸੰਤ ਟਹਲ ਕੀ ਬੇਲਾ ॥

करउ बेनंती सुणहु मेरे मीता संत टहल की बेला ॥

Karau benanttee su(nn)ahu mere meetaa santt tahal kee belaa ||

Listen, my friends, I beg of you: now is the time to serve the Saints!

ਈਹਾ ਖਾਟਿ ਚਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਆਗੈ ਬਸਨੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥

ईहा खाटि चलहु हरि लाहा आगै बसनु सुहेला ॥१॥

Eehaa khaati chalahu hari laahaa aagai basanu suhelaa ||1||

In this world, earn the profit of the Lord's Name, and hereafter, you shall dwell in peace. ||1||

ਅਉਧ ਘਟੈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਾਰੇ ॥

अउध घटै दिनसु रैणारे ॥

Audh ghatai dinasu rai(nn)aare ||

This life is diminishing, day and night.

ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मन गुर मिलि काज सवारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Man gur mili kaaj savaare ||1|| rahaau ||

Meeting with the Guru, your affairs shall be resolved. ||1|| Pause ||

ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ਸੰਸੇ ਮਹਿ ਤਰਿਓ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥

इहु संसारु बिकारु संसे महि तरिओ ब्रहम गिआनी ॥

Ihu sanssaaru bikaaru sansse mahi tario brham giaanee ||

This world is engrossed in corruption and cynicism. Only those who know God are saved.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਗਾਇ ਪੀਆਵੈ ਇਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੨॥

जिसहि जगाइ पीआवै इहु रसु अकथ कथा तिनि जानी ॥२॥

Jisahi jagaai peeaavai ihu rasu akath kathaa tini jaanee ||2||

Only those who are awakened by the Lord to drink in this Sublime Essence, come to know the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਆਏ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਹਾਝਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥

जा कउ आए सोई बिहाझहु हरि गुर ते मनहि बसेरा ॥

Jaa kau aae soee bihaajhahu hari gur te manahi baseraa ||

Purchase only that for which you have come into the world, and through the Guru, the Lord shall dwell within your mind.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥

निज घरि महलु पावहु सुख सहजे बहुरि न होइगो फेरा ॥३॥

Nij ghari mahalu paavahu sukh sahaje bahuri na hoigo pheraa ||3||

Within the home of your own inner being, you shall obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence with intuitive ease. You shall not be consigned again to the wheel of reincarnation. ||3||

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਰੇ ॥

अंतरजामी पुरख बिधाते सरधा मन की पूरे ॥

Anttarajaamee purakh bidhaate saradhaa man kee poore ||

O Inner-knower, Searcher of Hearts, O Primal Being, Architect of Destiny: please fulfill this yearning of my mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਇਹੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੫॥

नानक दासु इहै सुखु मागै मो कउ करि संतन की धूरे ॥४॥५॥

Naanak daasu ihai sukhu maagai mo kau kari santtan kee dhoore ||4||5||

Nanak, Your slave, begs for this happiness: let me be the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||4||5||

ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਦਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੀ ॥

हरि दइआलि दइआ प्रभि कीनी मेरै मनि तनि मुखि हरि बोली ॥

Hari daiaali daiaa prbhi keenee merai mani tani mukhi hari bolee ||

The Merciful Lord God showered me with His Mercy; with mind and body and mouth, I chant the Lord's Name.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਅਤਿ ਗੂੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਭੀਨੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਚੋਲੀ ॥੧॥

गुरमुखि रंगु भइआ अति गूड़ा हरि रंगि भीनी मेरी चोली ॥१॥

Guramukhi ranggu bhaiaa ati goo(rr)aa hari ranggi bheenee meree cholee ||1||

As Gurmukh, I have been dyed in the deep and lasting color of the Lord's Love. The robe of my body is drenched with His Love. ||1||

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਹਉ ਗੋਲੀ ॥

अपुने हरि प्रभ की हउ गोली ॥

Apune hari prbh kee hau golee ||

I am the maid-servant of my Lord God.

ਜਬ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੋਲ ਅਮੋਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जब हम हरि सेती मनु मानिआ करि दीनो जगतु सभु गोल अमोली ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jab ham hari setee manu maaniaa kari deeno jagatu sabhu gol amolee ||1|| rahaau ||

When my mind surrendered to the Lord, He made all the world my slave. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਰਹੁ ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ਖੋਜਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਢੰਢੋਲੀ ॥

करहु बिबेकु संत जन भाई खोजि हिरदै देखि ढंढोली ॥

Karahu bibeku santt jan bhaaee khoji hiradai dekhi dhanddholee ||

Consider this well, O Saints, O Siblings of Destiny - search your own hearts, seek and find Him there.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਸਭ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋਲੀ ॥੨॥

हरि हरि रूपु सभ जोति सबाई हरि निकटि वसै हरि कोली ॥२॥

Hari hari roopu sabh joti sabaaee hari nikati vasai hari kolee ||2||

The Beauty and the Light of the Lord, Har, Har, is present in all. In all places, the Lord dwells near by, close at hand. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਕੈ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਤੋਲੀ ॥

हरि हरि निकटि वसै सभ जग कै अपर्मपर पुरखु अतोली ॥

Hari hari nikati vasai sabh jag kai aparamppar purakhu atolee ||

The Lord, Har, Har, dwells close by, all over the world. He is Infinite, All-powerful and Immeasurable.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਕੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਵੇਚਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਮੋਲੀ ॥੩॥

हरि हरि प्रगटु कीओ गुरि पूरै सिरु वेचिओ गुर पहि मोली ॥३॥

Hari hari prgatu keeo guri poorai siru vechio gur pahi molee ||3||

The Perfect Guru has revealed the Lord, Har, Har, to me. I have sold my head to the Guru. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਡੋਲੀ ॥

हरि जी अंतरि बाहरि तुम सरणागति तुम वड पुरख वडोली ॥

Hari jee anttari baahari tum sara(nn)aagati tum vad purakh vadolee ||

O Dear Lord, inside and outside, I am in the protection of Your Sanctuary; You are the Greatest of the Great, All-powerful Lord.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗੁਰ ਵੇਚੋਲੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫॥੫੩॥

जनु नानकु अनदिनु हरि गुण गावै मिलि सतिगुर गुर वेचोली ॥४॥१॥१५॥५३॥

Janu naanaku anadinu hari gu(nn) gaavai mili satigur gur vecholee ||4||1||15||53||

Servant Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day, meeting the Guru, the True Guru, the Divine Intermediary. ||4||1||15||53||

ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥

जगजीवन अपर्मपर सुआमी जगदीसुर पुरख बिधाते ॥

Jagajeevan aparamppar suaamee jagadeesur purakh bidhaate ||

Life of the World, Infinite Lord and Master, Master of the Universe, All-powerful Architect of Destiny.

ਜਿਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਹਮ ਜਾਤੇ ॥੧॥

जितु मारगि तुम प्रेरहु सुआमी तितु मारगि हम जाते ॥१॥

Jitu maaragi tum prerahu suaamee titu maaragi ham jaate ||1||

Whichever way You turn me, O my Lord and Master, that is the way I shall go. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ॥

राम मेरा मनु हरि सेती राते ॥

Raam meraa manu hari setee raate ||

O Lord, my mind is attuned to the Lord's Love.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतसंगति मिलि राम रसु पाइआ हरि रामै नामि समाते ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Satasanggati mili raam rasu paaiaa hari raamai naami samaate ||1|| rahaau ||

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I have obtained the sublime essence of the Lord. I am absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਗਿ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਤੇ ॥

हरि हरि नामु हरि हरि जगि अवखधु हरि हरि नामु हरि साते ॥

Hari hari naamu hari hari jagi avakhadhu hari hari naamu hari saate ||

The Lord, Har, Har, and the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is the panacea, the medicine for the world. The Lord, and the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, bring peace and tranquility.

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੋਖ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਤੇ ॥੨॥

तिन के पाप दोख सभि बिनसे जो गुरमति राम रसु खाते ॥२॥

Tin ke paap dokh sabhi binase jo guramati raam rasu khaate ||2||

Those who partake of the Lord's sublime essence, through the Guru's Teachings - their sins and sufferings are all eliminated. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਲਿਖੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਤੇ ॥

जिन कउ लिखतु लिखे धुरि मसतकि ते गुर संतोख सरि नाते ॥

Jin kau likhatu likhe dhuri masataki te gur santtokh sari naate ||

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny inscribed on their foreheads, bathe in the pool of contentment of the Guru.

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਈ ਸਭ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥੩॥

दुरमति मैलु गई सभ तिन की जो राम नाम रंगि राते ॥३॥

Duramati mailu gaee sabh tin kee jo raam naam ranggi raate ||3||

The filth of evil-mindedness is totally washed away, from those who are imbued with the Love of the Lord's Name. ||3||

ਰਾਮ ਤੁਮ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਮ ਜੇਵਡ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦਾਤੇ ॥

राम तुम आपे आपि आपि प्रभु ठाकुर तुम जेवड अवरु न दाते ॥

Raam tum aape aapi aapi prbhu thaakur tum jevad avaru na daate ||

O Lord, You Yourself are Your Own Master, O God. There is no other Giver as Great as You.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੬॥੫੪॥

जनु नानकु नामु लए तां जीवै हरि जपीऐ हरि किरपा ते ॥४॥२॥१६॥५४॥

Janu naanaku naamu lae taan jeevai hari japeeai hari kirapaa te ||4||2||16||54||

Servant Nanak lives by the Naam, the Name of the Lord; by the Lord's Mercy, he chants the Lord's Name. ||4||2||16||54||

करहु क्रिपा जगजीवन दाते मेरा मनु हरि सेती राचे ॥

Karahu kripaa jagajeevan daate meraa manu hari setee raache ||

Show Mercy to me, O Life of the World, O Great Giver, so that my mind may merge with the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬਚਨੁ ਦੀਓ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਚੇ ॥੧॥

सतिगुरि बचनु दीओ अति निरमलु जपि हरि हरि हरि मनु माचे ॥१॥

Satiguri bachanu deeo ati niramalu japi hari hari hari manu maache ||1||

The True Guru has bestowed His most pure and sacred Teachings. Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, my mind is transfixed and enraptured. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਬੇਧਿ ਲੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ॥

राम मेरा मनु तनु बेधि लीओ हरि साचे ॥

Raam meraa manu tanu bedhi leeo hari saache ||

O Lord, my mind and body have been pierced through by the True Lord.

ਜਿਹ ਕਾਲ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਬਾਚੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिह काल कै मुखि जगतु सभु ग्रसिआ गुर सतिगुर कै बचनि हरि हम बाचे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jih kaal kai mukhi jagatu sabhu grsiaa gur satigur kai bachani hari ham baache ||1|| rahaau ||

The whole world is caught and held in the mouth of Death. Through the Teachings of the Guru, the True Guru, O Lord, I am saved. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂੜ ਨਰ ਕਾਚੇ ॥

जिन कउ प्रीति नाही हरि सेती ते साकत मूड़ नर काचे ॥

Jin kau preeti naahee hari setee te saakat moo(rr) nar kaache ||

Those who are not in love with the Lord are foolish and false - they are faithless cynics.

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜਨਮੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਪਾਚੇ ॥੨॥

तिन कउ जनमु मरणु अति भारी विचि विसटा मरि मरि पाचे ॥२॥

Tin kau janamu mara(nn)u ati bhaaree vichi visataa mari mari paache ||2||

They suffer the most extreme agonies of birth and death; they die over and over again, and they rot away in manure. ||2||

ਤੁਮ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਕ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਜਾਚੇ ॥

तुम दइआल सरणि प्रतिपालक मो कउ दीजै दानु हरि हम जाचे ॥

Tum daiaal sara(nn)i prtipaalak mo kau deejai daanu hari ham jaache ||

You are the Merciful Cherisher of those who seek Your Sanctuary. I beg of You: please grant me Your gift, Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਹਮ ਕੀਜੈ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਚੇ ॥੩॥

हरि के दास दास हम कीजै मनु निरति करे करि नाचे ॥३॥

Hari ke daas daas ham keejai manu nirati kare kari naache ||3||

Make me the slave of the Lord's slaves, so that my mind might dance in Your Love. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਸਾਹ ਵਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਹਹਿ ਤਾ ਚੇ ॥

आपे साह वडे प्रभ सुआमी हम वणजारे हहि ता चे ॥

Aape saah vade prbh suaamee ham va(nn)ajaare hahi taa che ||

He Himself is the Great Banker; God is our Lord and Master. I am His petty merchant.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਸਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਸਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੭॥੫੫॥

मेरा मनु तनु जीउ रासि सभ तेरी जन नानक के साह प्रभ साचे ॥४॥३॥१७॥५५॥

Meraa manu tanu jeeu raasi sabh teree jan naanak ke saah prbh saache ||4||3||17||55||

My mind, body and soul are all Your capital assets. You, O God, are the True Banker of servant Nanak. ||4||3||17||55||

तुम दइआल सरब दुख भंजन इक बिनउ सुनहु दे काने ॥

Tum daiaal sarab dukh bhanjjan ik binau sunahu de kaane ||

You are Merciful, the Destroyer of all pain. Please give me Your Ear and listen to my prayer.

ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੇ ॥੧॥

जिस ते तुम हरि जाने सुआमी सो सतिगुरु मेलि मेरा प्राने ॥१॥

Jis te tum hari jaane suaamee so satiguru meli meraa praane ||1||

Please unite me with the True Guru, my breath of life; through Him, O my Lord and Master, You are known. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ॥

राम हम सतिगुर पारब्रहम करि माने ॥

Raam ham satigur paarabrham kari maane ||

O Lord, I acknowledge the True Guru as the Supreme Lord God.

ਹਮ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਸੁਧ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਮ ਜਾਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हम मूड़ मुगध असुध मति होते गुर सतिगुर कै बचनि हरि हम जाने ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ham moo(rr) mugadh asudh mati hote gur satigur kai bachani hari ham jaane ||1|| rahaau ||

I am foolish and ignorant, and my intellect is impure. Through the Teachings of the Guru, the True Guru, O Lord, I come to know You. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਿਤਨੇ ਰਸ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਹਮ ਦੇਖੇ ਸਭ ਤਿਤਨੇ ਫੀਕ ਫੀਕਾਨੇ ॥

जितने रस अन रस हम देखे सभ तितने फीक फीकाने ॥

Jitane ras an ras ham dekhe sabh titane pheek pheekaane ||

All the pleasures and enjoyments which I have seen - I have found them all to be bland and insipid.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੀਠ ਰਸ ਗਾਨੇ ॥੨॥

हरि का नामु अम्रित रसु चाखिआ मिलि सतिगुर मीठ रस गाने ॥२॥

Hari kaa naamu ammmrit rasu chaakhiaa mili satigur meeth ras gaane ||2||

I have tasted the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, by meeting the True Guru. It is sweet, like the juice of the sugarcane. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂੜ ਦਿਵਾਨੇ ॥

जिन कउ गुरु सतिगुरु नही भेटिआ ते साकत मूड़ दिवाने ॥

Jin kau guru satiguru nahee bhetiaa te saakat moo(rr) divaane ||

Those who have not met the Guru, the True Guru, are foolish and insane - they are faithless cynics.

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਰਮਹੀਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਦੇਖਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਚਾਨੇ ॥੩॥

तिन के करमहीन धुरि पाए देखि दीपकु मोहि पचाने ॥३॥

Tin ke karamaheen dhuri paae dekhi deepaku mohi pachaane ||3||

Those who were pre-ordained to have no good karma at all - gazing into the lamp of emotional attachment, they are burnt, like moths in a flame. ||3||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵ ਲਗਾਨੇ ॥

जिन कउ तुम दइआ करि मेलहु ते हरि हरि सेव लगाने ॥

Jin kau tum daiaa kari melahu te hari hari sev lagaane ||

Those whom You, in Your Mercy, have met, Lord, are committed to Your Service.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੮॥੫੬॥

जन नानक हरि हरि हरि जपि प्रगटे मति गुरमति नामि समाने ॥४॥४॥१८॥५६॥

Jan naanak hari hari hari japi prgate mati guramati naami samaane ||4||4||18||56||

Servant Nanak chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har. He is famous, and through the Guru's Teachings, He merges in the Name. ||4||4||18||56||

मेरे मन सो प्रभु सदा नालि है सुआमी कहु किथै हरि पहु नसीऐ ॥

Mere man so prbhu sadaa naali hai suaamee kahu kithai hari pahu naseeai ||

O my mind, God is always with you; He is your Lord and Master. Tell me, where could you run to get away from the Lord?

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੁਟੀਐ ॥੧॥

हरि आपे बखसि लए प्रभु साचा हरि आपि छडाए छुटीऐ ॥१॥

Hari aape bakhasi lae prbhu saachaa hari aapi chhadaae chhuteeai ||1||

The True Lord God Himself grants forgiveness; we are emancipated only when the Lord Himself emancipates us. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਜਪੀਐ ॥

मेरे मन जपि हरि हरि हरि मनि जपीऐ ॥

Mere man japi hari hari hari mani japeeai ||

O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har - chant it in your mind.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੀਛੈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुर की सरणाई भजि पउ मेरे मना गुर सतिगुर पीछै छुटीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Satigur kee sara(nn)aaee bhaji pau mere manaa gur satigur peechhai chhuteeai ||1|| rahaau ||

Quickly now, run to the Sanctuary of the True Guru, O my mind; following the Guru, the True Guru, you shall be saved. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੀਐ ॥

मेरे मन सेवहु सो प्रभ स्रब सुखदाता जितु सेविऐ निज घरि वसीऐ ॥

Mere man sevahu so prbh srb sukhadaataa jitu seviai nij ghari vaseeai ||

O my mind, serve God, the Giver of all peace; serving Him, you shall come to dwell in your own home deep within.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਇ ਲਹਹੁ ਘਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਘਸਿ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਘਸੀਐ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि जाइ लहहु घरु अपना घसि चंदनु हरि जसु घसीऐ ॥२॥

Guramukhi jaai lahahu gharu apanaa ghasi chanddanu hari jasu ghaseeai ||2||

As Gurmukh, go and enter your own home; anoint yourself with the sandalwood oil of the Lord's Praises. ||2||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਊਤਮੁ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਹਸੀਐ ॥

मेरे मन हरि हरि हरि हरि हरि जसु ऊतमु लै लाहा हरि मनि हसीऐ ॥

Mere man hari hari hari hari hari jasu utamu lai laahaa hari mani haseeai ||

O my mind, the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, Har, are exalted and sublime. Earn the profit of the Lord's Name, and let your mind be happy.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਖੀਐ ॥੩॥

हरि हरि आपि दइआ करि देवै ता अम्रितु हरि रसु चखीऐ ॥३॥

Hari hari aapi daiaa kari devai taa ammmritu hari rasu chakheeai ||3||

If the Lord, Har, Har, in His Mercy, bestows it, then we partake of the ambrosial essence of the Lord's Name. ||3||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੋ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਜਮਿ ਘੁਟੀਐ ॥

मेरे मन नाम बिना जो दूजै लागे ते साकत नर जमि घुटीऐ ॥

Mere man naam binaa jo doojai laage te saakat nar jami ghuteeai ||

O my mind, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and attached to duality, those faithless cynics are strangled by the Messenger of Death.

ਤੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਚੋਰ ਜਿਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਭਿਟੀਐ ॥੪॥

ते साकत चोर जिना नामु विसारिआ मन तिन कै निकटि न भिटीऐ ॥४॥

Te saakat chor jinaa naamu visaariaa man tin kai nikati na bhiteeai ||4||

Such faithless cynics, who have forgotten the Naam, are thieves. O my mind, do not even go near them. ||4||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਅਲਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਲੇਖਾ ਛੁਟੀਐ ॥

मेरे मन सेवहु अलख निरंजन नरहरि जितु सेविऐ लेखा छुटीऐ ॥

Mere man sevahu alakh niranjjan narahari jitu seviai lekhaa chhuteeai ||

O my mind, serve the Unknowable and Immaculate Lord, the Man-lion; serving Him, your account will be cleared.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀਏ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਾਸਾ ਤੋਲੁ ਨ ਘਟੀਐ ॥੫॥੫॥੧੯॥੫੭॥

जन नानक हरि प्रभि पूरे कीए खिनु मासा तोलु न घटीऐ ॥५॥५॥१९॥५७॥

Jan naanak hari prbhi poore keee khinu maasaa tolu na ghateeai ||5||5||19||57||

The Lord God has made servant Nanak perfect; he is not diminished by even the tiniest particle. ||5||5||19||57||

हमरे प्रान वसगति प्रभ तुमरै मेरा जीउ पिंडु सभ तेरी ॥

Hamare praan vasagati prbh tumarai meraa jeeu pinddu sabh teree ||

My breath of life is in Your Power, God; my soul and body are totally Yours.

ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਵਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਲੋਚ ਘਣੇਰੀ ॥੧॥

दइआ करहु हरि दरसु दिखावहु मेरै मनि तनि लोच घणेरी ॥१॥

Daiaa karahu hari darasu dikhaavahu merai mani tani loch gha(nn)eree ||1||

Be merciful to me, and show me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. There is such a great longing within my mind and body! ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਲੋਚ ਮਿਲਣ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ॥

राम मेरै मनि तनि लोच मिलण हरि केरी ॥

Raam merai mani tani loch mila(nn) hari keree ||

O my Lord, there is such a great longing within my mind and body to meet the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਿੰਚਤ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर क्रिपालि क्रिपा किंचत गुरि कीनी हरि मिलिआ आइ प्रभु मेरी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur kripaali kripaa kincchat guri keenee hari miliaa aai prbhu meree ||1|| rahaau ||

When the Guru, the Merciful Guru, showed just a little mercy to me, my Lord God came and met me. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੋ ਹਮਰੈ ਮਨ ਚਿਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਤੁਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ॥

जो हमरै मन चिति है सुआमी सा बिधि तुम हरि जानहु मेरी ॥

Jo hamarai man chiti hai suaamee saa bidhi tum hari jaanahu meree ||

Whatever is in my conscious mind, O Lord and Master - that condition of mine is known only to You, Lord.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ਨਿਤ ਜੀਵਾ ਆਸ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੨॥

अनदिनु नामु जपी सुखु पाई नित जीवा आस हरि तेरी ॥२॥

Anadinu naamu japee sukhu paaee nit jeevaa aas hari teree ||2||

Night and day, I chant Your Name, and I find peace. I live by placing my hopes in You, Lord. ||2||

ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਾਤੈ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਤਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੀ ॥

गुरि सतिगुरि दातै पंथु बताइआ हरि मिलिआ आइ प्रभु मेरी ॥

Guri satiguri daatai pantthu bataaiaa hari miliaa aai prbhu meree ||

The Guru, the True Guru, the Giver, has shown me the Way; my Lord God came and met me.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਭ ਆਸ ਪੁਜੀ ਜਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥੩॥

अनदिनु अनदु भइआ वडभागी सभ आस पुजी जन केरी ॥३॥

Anadinu anadu bhaiaa vadabhaagee sabh aas pujee jan keree ||3||

Night and day, I am filled with bliss; by great good fortune, all of the hopes of His humble servant have been fulfilled. ||3||

ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਕਰਤੇ ਸਭ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ॥

जगंनाथ जगदीसुर करते सभ वसगति है हरि केरी ॥

Jagannaath jagadeesur karate sabh vasagati hai hari keree ||

O Lord of the World, Master of the Universe, everything is under Your control.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਆਏ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪੈਜ ਜਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੨੦॥੫੮॥

जन नानक सरणागति आए हरि राखहु पैज जन केरी ॥४॥६॥२०॥५८॥

Jan naanak sara(nn)aagati aae hari raakhahu paij jan keree ||4||6||20||58||

Servant Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary, Lord; please, preserve the honor of Your humble servant. ||4||6||20||58||

इहु मनूआ खिनु न टिकै बहु रंगी दह दह दिसि चलि चलि हाढे ॥

Ihu manooaa khinu na tikai bahu ranggee dah dah disi chali chali haadhe ||

This mind does not hold still, even for an instant. Distracted by all sorts of distractions, it wanders around aimlessly in the ten directions.

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਠਾਢੇ ॥੧॥

गुरु पूरा पाइआ वडभागी हरि मंत्रु दीआ मनु ठाढे ॥१॥

Guru pooraa paaiaa vadabhaagee hari manttru deeaa manu thaadhe ||1||

I have found the Perfect Guru, through great good fortune; He has given me the Mantra of the Lord's Name, and my mind has become quiet and tranquil. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਲੇ ਕਾਂਢੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

राम हम सतिगुर लाले कांढे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Raam ham satigur laale kaandhe ||1|| rahaau ||

O Lord, I am the slave of the True Guru. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਮਰੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਦਾਗੁ ਦਗਾਨਾ ਹਮ ਕਰਜ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਹੁ ਸਾਢੇ ॥

हमरै मसतकि दागु दगाना हम करज गुरू बहु साढे ॥

Hamarai masataki daagu dagaanaa ham karaj guroo bahu saadhe ||

My forehead has been branded with His brand; I owe such a great debt to the Guru.

ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਭਉ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਢੇ ॥੨॥

परउपकारु पुंनु बहु कीआ भउ दुतरु तारि पराढे ॥२॥

Paraupakaaru punnu bahu keeaa bhau dutaru taari paraadhe ||2||

He has been so generous and kind to me; He has carried me across the treacherous and terrifying world-ocean. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੂਰੇ ਗਾਢਨ ਗਾਢੇ ॥

जिन कउ प्रीति रिदै हरि नाही तिन कूरे गाढन गाढे ॥

Jin kau preeti ridai hari naahee tin koore gaadhan gaadhe ||

Those who do not have love for the Lord within their hearts, harbor only false intentions and goals.

ਜਿਉ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਰਭਿ ਗਲਾਢੇ ॥੩॥

जिउ पाणी कागदु बिनसि जात है तिउ मनमुख गरभि गलाढे ॥३॥

Jiu paa(nn)ee kaagadu binasi jaat hai tiu manamukh garabhi galaadhe ||3||

As paper breaks down and dissolves in water, the self-willed manmukh wastes away in arrogant pride. ||3||

ਹਮ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਆਗੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਉ ਠਾਢੇ ॥

हम जानिआ कछू न जानह आगै जिउ हरि राखै तिउ ठाढे ॥

Ham jaaniaa kachhoo na jaanah aagai jiu hari raakhai tiu thaadhe ||

I know nothing, and I do not know the future; as the Lord keeps me, so do I stand.

ਹਮ ਭੂਲ ਚੂਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੁਤਰੇ ਕਾਢੇ ॥੪॥੭॥੨੧॥੫੯॥

हम भूल चूक गुर किरपा धारहु जन नानक कुतरे काढे ॥४॥७॥२१॥५९॥

Ham bhool chook gur kirapaa dhaarahu jan naanak kutare kaadhe ||4||7||21||59||

For my failings and mistakes, O Guru, grant me Your Grace; servant Nanak is Your obedient dog. ||4||7||21||59||

ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

कामि करोधि नगरु बहु भरिआ मिलि साधू खंडल खंडा हे ॥

Kaami karodhi nagaru bahu bhariaa mili saadhoo khanddal khanddaa he ||

The body-village is filled to overflowing with sexual desire and anger, which were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਲਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

पूरबि लिखत लिखे गुरु पाइआ मनि हरि लिव मंडल मंडा हे ॥१॥

Poorabi likhat likhe guru paaiaa mani hari liv manddal manddaa he ||1||

By pre-ordained destiny, I have met with the Guru. I have entered into the realm of the Lord's Love. ||1||

ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਅੰਜੁਲੀ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

करि साधू अंजुली पुंनु वडा हे ॥

Kari saadhoo anjjulee punnu vadaa he ||

Greet the Holy Saint with your palms pressed together; this is an act of great merit.

ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡਉਤ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

करि डंडउत पुनु वडा हे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kari danddaut punu vadaa he ||1|| rahaau ||

Bow down before Him; this is a virtuous action indeed. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

साकत हरि रस सादु न जानिआ तिन अंतरि हउमै कंडा हे ॥

Saakat hari ras saadu na jaaniaa tin anttari haumai kanddaa he ||

The wicked shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not know the taste of the Lord's sublime essence. The thorn of egotism is embedded deep within them.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਚਲਹਿ ਚੁਭੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

जिउ जिउ चलहि चुभै दुखु पावहि जमकालु सहहि सिरि डंडा हे ॥२॥

Jiu jiu chalahi chubhai dukhu paavahi jamakaalu sahahi siri danddaa he ||2||

The more they walk away, the deeper it sticks into them, and the more they suffer in pain, until finally, the Messenger of Death smashes his club against their heads. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

हरि जन हरि हरि नामि समाणे दुखु जनम मरण भव खंडा हे ॥

Hari jan hari hari naami samaa(nn)e dukhu janam mara(nn) bhav khanddaa he ||

The humble servants of the Lord are absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The pain of birth and the fear of death are eradicated.

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

अबिनासी पुरखु पाइआ परमेसरु बहु सोभ खंड ब्रहमंडा हे ॥३॥

Abinaasee purakhu paaiaa paramesaru bahu sobh khandd brhamanddaa he ||3||

They have obtained the Imperishable Supreme Being, the Transcendent Lord God, and they obtain great honor throughout all the worlds and realms. ||3||

ਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਵਡ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

हम गरीब मसकीन प्रभ तेरे हरि राखु राखु वड वडा हे ॥

Ham gareeb masakeen prbh tere hari raakhu raakhu vad vadaa he ||

I am poor and meek, God, but I am Yours! Save me, please save me, O Greatest of the Great!

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੮॥੨੨॥੬੦॥

जन नानक नामु अधारु टेक है हरि नामे ही सुखु मंडा हे ॥४॥८॥२२॥६०॥

Jan naanak naamu adhaaru tek hai hari naame hee sukhu manddaa he ||4||8||22||60||

Servant Nanak takes the Sustenance and Support of the Naam. In the Name of the Lord, he enjoys celestial peace. ||4||8||22||60||

ਇਸੁ ਗੜ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਹੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਧੀਠਾ ॥

इसु गड़ महि हरि राम राइ है किछु सादु न पावै धीठा ॥

Isu ga(rr) mahi hari raam raai hai kichhu saadu na paavai dheethaa ||

Within this body-fortress is the Lord, the Sovereign Lord King, but the stubborn ones do not find the taste.

ਹਰਿ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਚਖਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੧॥

हरि दीन दइआलि अनुग्रहु कीआ हरि गुर सबदी चखि डीठा ॥१॥

Hari deen daiaali anugrhu keeaa hari gur sabadee chakhi deethaa ||1||

When the Lord, Merciful to the meek, showed His Mercy, I found and tasted it, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਲਿਵ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

राम हरि कीरतनु गुर लिव मीठा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Raam hari keeratanu gur liv meethaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Lovingly focused upon the Guru, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise has become sweet to me. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਿ ਬਸੀਠਾ ॥

हरि अगमु अगोचरु पारब्रहमु है मिलि सतिगुर लागि बसीठा ॥

Hari agamu agocharu paarabrhamu hai mili satigur laagi baseethaa ||

The Lord, the Supreme Lord God, is Inaccessible and Unfathomable. Those who are committed to the True Guru, the Divine Intermediary, meet the Lord.

ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਤਿਨ ਆਗੈ ਆਣਿ ਪਰੀਠਾ ॥੨॥

जिन गुर बचन सुखाने हीअरै तिन आगै आणि परीठा ॥२॥

Jin gur bachan sukhaane heearai tin aagai aa(nn)i pareethaa ||2||

Those whose hearts are pleased with the Guru's Teachings - the Lord's Presence is revealed to them. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੀਅਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੀਠਾ ॥

मनमुख हीअरा अति कठोरु है तिन अंतरि कार करीठा ॥

Manamukh heearaa ati kathoru hai tin anttari kaar kareethaa ||

The hearts of the self-willed manmukhs are hard and cruel; their inner beings are dark.

ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਧੁ ਪੀਆਈਐ ਬਿਖੁ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਫੋਲਿ ਫੁਲੀਠਾ ॥੩॥

बिसीअर कउ बहु दूधु पीआईऐ बिखु निकसै फोलि फुलीठा ॥३॥

Biseear kau bahu doodhu peeaaeeai bikhu nikasai pholi phuleethaa ||3||

Even if the poisonous snake is fed large amounts of milk, it will still yield only poison. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਘਸਿ ਗਰੁੜੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਲੀਠਾ ॥

हरि प्रभ आनि मिलावहु गुरु साधू घसि गरुड़ु सबदु मुखि लीठा ॥

Hari prbh aani milaavahu guru saadhoo ghasi garu(rr)u sabadu mukhi leethaa ||

O Lord God, please unite me with the Holy Guru, so that I might joyfully grind and eat the Shabad.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਲਾਲੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰੂਆ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੩॥੬੧॥

जन नानक गुर के लाले गोले लगि संगति करूआ मीठा ॥४॥९॥२३॥६१॥

Jan naanak gur ke laale gole lagi sanggati karooaa meethaa ||4||9||23||61||

Servant Nanak is the slave of the Guru; in the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, the bitter becomes sweet. ||4||9||23||61||

हरि हरि अरथि सरीरु हम बेचिआ पूरे गुर कै आगे ॥

Hari hari arathi sareeru ham bechiaa poore gur kai aage ||

For the sake of the Lord, Har, Har, I have sold my body to the Perfect Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ਸਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥

सतिगुर दातै नामु दिड़ाइआ मुखि मसतकि भाग सभागे ॥१॥

Satigur daatai naamu di(rr)aaiaa mukhi masataki bhaag sabhaage ||1||

The True Guru, the Giver, has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me. A very blessed and fortunate destiny is recorded upon my forehead. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

राम गुरमति हरि लिव लागे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Raam guramati hari liv laage ||1|| rahaau ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, I am lovingly centered on the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

घटि घटि रमईआ रमत राम राइ गुर सबदि गुरू लिव लागे ॥

Ghati ghati ramaeeaa ramat raam raai gur sabadi guroo liv laage ||

The All-pervading Sovereign Lord King is contained in each and every heart. Through the Guru, and the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I am lovingly centered on the Lord.

ਹਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਕਾਟਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਭਾਗੇ ॥੨॥

हउ मनु तनु देवउ काटि गुरू कउ मेरा भ्रमु भउ गुर बचनी भागे ॥२॥

Hau manu tanu devau kaati guroo kau meraa bhrmu bhau gur bachanee bhaage ||2||

Cutting my mind and body into pieces, I offer them to my Guru. The Guru's Teachings have dispelled my doubt and fear. ||2||

ਅੰਧਿਆਰੈ ਦੀਪਕ ਆਨਿ ਜਲਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

अंधिआरै दीपक आनि जलाए गुर गिआनि गुरू लिव लागे ॥

Anddhiaarai deepak aani jalaae gur giaani guroo liv laage ||

In the darkness, the Guru has lit the lamp of the Guru's wisdom; I am lovingly focused on the Lord.

ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਿਓ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਲਹੀ ਮਨ ਜਾਗੇ ॥੩॥

अगिआनु अंधेरा बिनसि बिनासिओ घरि वसतु लही मन जागे ॥३॥

Agiaanu anddheraa binasi binaasio ghari vasatu lahee man jaage ||3||

The darkness of ignorance has been dispelled, and my mind has been awakened; within the home of my inner being, I have found the genuine article. ||3||

ਸਾਕਤ ਬਧਿਕ ਮਾਇਆਧਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਜਮ ਜੋਹਨਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

साकत बधिक माइआधारी तिन जम जोहनि लागे ॥

Saakat badhik maaiaadhaaree tin jam johani laage ||

The vicious hunters, the faithless cynics, are hunted down by the Messenger of Death.

ਉਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਸੀਸੁ ਨ ਬੇਚਿਆ ਓਇ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੪॥

उन सतिगुर आगै सीसु न बेचिआ ओइ आवहि जाहि अभागे ॥४॥

Un satigur aagai seesu na bechiaa oi aavahi jaahi abhaage ||4||

They have not sold their heads to the True Guru; those wretched, unfortunate ones continue coming and going in reincarnation. ||4||

ਹਮਰਾ ਬਿਨਉ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਮ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਗੇ ॥

हमरा बिनउ सुनहु प्रभ ठाकुर हम सरणि प्रभू हरि मागे ॥

Hamaraa binau sunahu prbh thaakur ham sara(nn)i prbhoo hari maage ||

Hear my prayer, O God, my Lord and Master: I beg for the Sanctuary of the Lord God.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਲਜ ਪਾਤਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਬੇਚਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੇ ॥੫॥੧੦॥੨੪॥੬੨॥

जन नानक की लज पाति गुरू है सिरु बेचिओ सतिगुर आगे ॥५॥१०॥२४॥६२॥

Jan naanak kee laj paati guroo hai siru bechio satigur aage ||5||10||24||62||

Servant Nanak's honor and respect is the Guru; he has sold his head to the True Guru. ||5||10||24||62||

हम अहंकारी अहंकार अगिआन मति गुरि मिलिऐ आपु गवाइआ ॥

Ham ahankkaaree ahankkaar agiaan mati guri miliai aapu gavaaiaa ||

I am egotistical and conceited, and my intellect is ignorant. Meeting the Guru, my selfishness and conceit have been abolished.

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

हउमै रोगु गइआ सुखु पाइआ धनु धंनु गुरू हरि राइआ ॥१॥

Haumai rogu gaiaa sukhu paaiaa dhanu dhannu guroo hari raaiaa ||1||

The illness of egotism is gone, and I have found peace. Blessed, blessed is the Guru, the Sovereign Lord King. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

राम गुर कै बचनि हरि पाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Raam gur kai bachani hari paaiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

I have found the Lord, through the Teachings of the Guru. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਤਾਇਆ ॥

मेरै हीअरै प्रीति राम राइ की गुरि मारगु पंथु बताइआ ॥

Merai heearai preeti raam raai kee guri maaragu pantthu bataaiaa ||

My heart is filled with love for the Sovereign Lord King; the Guru has shown me the path and the way to find Him.

ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

मेरा जीउ पिंडु सभु सतिगुर आगै जिनि विछुड़िआ हरि गलि लाइआ ॥२॥

Meraa jeeu pinddu sabhu satigur aagai jini vichhu(rr)iaa hari gali laaiaa ||2||

My soul and body all belong to the Guru; I was separated, and He has led me into the Lord's Embrace. ||2||

ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਦੇਖਨ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥

मेरै अंतरि प्रीति लगी देखन कउ गुरि हिरदे नालि दिखाइआ ॥

Merai anttari preeti lagee dekhan kau guri hirade naali dikhaaiaa ||

Deep within myself, I would love to see the Lord; the Guru has inspired me to see Him within my heart.

ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਮੋਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਆਪੁ ਵੇਚਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

सहज अनंदु भइआ मनि मोरै गुर आगै आपु वेचाइआ ॥३॥

Sahaj ananddu bhaiaa mani morai gur aagai aapu vechaaiaa ||3||

Within my mind, intuitive peace and bliss have arisen; I have sold myself to the Guru. ||3||

ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਪਾਪ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਦੁਸਟੀ ਚੋਰ ਚੁਰਾਇਆ ॥

हम अपराध पाप बहु कीने करि दुसटी चोर चुराइआ ॥

Ham aparaadh paap bahu keene kari dusatee chor churaaiaa ||

I am a sinner - I have committed so many sins; I am a villainous, thieving thief.

ਅਬ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਆਏ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਲਾਜ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੨੫॥੬੩॥

अब नानक सरणागति आए हरि राखहु लाज हरि भाइआ ॥४॥११॥२५॥६३॥

Ab naanak sara(nn)aagati aae hari raakhahu laaj hari bhaaiaa ||4||11||25||63||

Now, Nanak has come to the Lord's Sanctuary; preserve my honor, Lord, as it pleases Your Will. ||4||11||25||63||

Guramati baajai sabadu anaahadu guramati manooaa gaavai ||

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

वडभागी गुर दरसनु पाइआ धनु धंनु गुरू लिव लावै ॥१॥

Vadabhaagee gur darasanu paaiaa dhanu dhannu guroo liv laavai ||1||

By great good fortune, I received the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan. Blessed, blessed is the Guru, who has led me to love the Lord. ||1||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमुखि हरि लिव लावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramukhi hari liv laavai ||1|| rahaau ||

The Gurmukh is lovingly centered on the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਮਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

हमरा ठाकुरु सतिगुरु पूरा मनु गुर की कार कमावै ॥

Hamaraa thaakuru satiguru pooraa manu gur kee kaar kamaavai ||

My Lord and Master is the Perfect True Guru. My mind works to serve the Guru.

ਹਮ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵਹ ਪਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

हम मलि मलि धोवह पाव गुरू के जो हरि हरि कथा सुनावै ॥२॥

Ham mali mali dhovah paav guroo ke jo hari hari kathaa sunaavai ||2||

I massage and wash the Feet of the Guru, who recites the Sermon of the Lord. ||2||

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

हिरदै गुरमति राम रसाइणु जिहवा हरि गुण गावै ॥

Hiradai guramati raam rasaai(nn)u jihavaa hari gu(nn) gaavai ||

The Teachings of the Guru are in my heart; the Lord is the Source of nectar. My tongue sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਮਨ ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਆਘਾਨੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਭੂਖ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

मन रसकि रसकि हरि रसि आघाने फिरि बहुरि न भूख लगावै ॥३॥

Man rasaki rasaki hari rasi aaghaane phiri bahuri na bhookh lagaavai ||3||

My mind is immersed in, and drenched with the Lord's essence. Fulfilled with the Lord's Love, I shall never feel hunger again. ||3||

ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਉਪਾਵ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

कोई करै उपाव अनेक बहुतेरे बिनु किरपा नामु न पावै ॥

Koee karai upaav anek bahutere binu kirapaa naamu na paavai ||

People try all sorts of things, but without the Lord's Mercy, His Name is not obtained.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੬॥੬੪॥

जन नानक कउ हरि किरपा धारी मति गुरमति नामु द्रिड़ावै ॥४॥१२॥२६॥६४॥

Jan naanak kau hari kirapaa dhaaree mati guramati naamu dri(rr)aavai ||4||12||26||64||

The Lord has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; through the wisdom of the Guru's Teachings, he has enshrined the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||12||26||64||

ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कवन गुन प्रानपति मिलउ मेरी माई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kavan gun praanapati milau meree maaee ||1|| rahaau ||

By what virtues can I meet the Lord of life, O my mother? ||1|| Pause ||

ਰੂਪ ਹੀਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਲ ਹੀਨੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਰਦੇਸਨਿ ਦੂਰ ਤੇ ਆਈ ॥੧॥

रूप हीन बुधि बल हीनी मोहि परदेसनि दूर ते आई ॥१॥

Roop heen budhi bal heenee mohi paradesani door te aaee ||1||

I have no beauty, understanding or strength; I am a stranger, from far away. ||1||

ਨਾਹਿਨ ਦਰਬੁ ਨ ਜੋਬਨ ਮਾਤੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਨਾਥ ਕੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥

नाहिन दरबु न जोबन माती मोहि अनाथ की करहु समाई ॥२॥

Naahin darabu na joban maatee mohi anaath kee karahu samaaee ||2||

I am not wealthy or youthful. I am an orphan - please, unite me with Yourself. ||2||

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਈ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਫਿਰਤ ਤਿਸਾਈ ॥੩॥

खोजत खोजत भई बैरागनि प्रभ दरसन कउ हउ फिरत तिसाई ॥३॥

Khojat khojat bhaee bairaagani prbh darasan kau hau phirat tisaaee ||3||

Searching and searching, I have become a renunciate, free of desire. I wander around, searching for the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan. ||3||

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੧੮॥

दीन दइआल क्रिपाल प्रभ नानक साधसंगि मेरी जलनि बुझाई ॥४॥१॥११८॥

Deen daiaal kripaal prbh naanak saadhasanggi meree jalani bujhaaee ||4||1||118||

God is Compassionate, and Merciful to the meek; O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the fire of desire has been quenched. ||4||1||118||

किन बिधि मिलै गुसाई मेरे राम राइ ॥

Kin bidhi milai gusaaee mere raam raai ||

How may I meet my Master, the King, the Lord of the Universe?

ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦੇਇ ਬਤਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कोई ऐसा संतु सहज सुखदाता मोहि मारगु देइ बताई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Koee aisaa santtu sahaj sukhadaataa mohi maaragu dei bataaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Is there any Saint, who can bestow such celestial peace, and show me the Way to Him? ||1|| Pause ||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਪੜਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਾਈ ॥

अंतरि अलखु न जाई लखिआ विचि पड़दा हउमै पाई ॥

Anttari alakhu na jaaee lakhiaa vichi pa(rr)adaa haumai paaee ||

The Unseen Lord is deep within the self; He cannot be seen; the curtain of egotism intervenes.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭੋ ਜਗੁ ਸੋਇਆ ਇਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

माइआ मोहि सभो जगु सोइआ इहु भरमु कहहु किउ जाई ॥१॥

Maaiaa mohi sabho jagu soiaa ihu bharamu kahahu kiu jaaee ||1||

In emotional attachment to Maya, all the world is asleep. Tell me, how can this doubt be dispelled? ||1||

ਏਕਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਕਤੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਸਤੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਕਰਤੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

एका संगति इकतु ग्रिहि बसते मिलि बात न करते भाई ॥

Ekaa sanggati ikatu grihi basate mili baat na karate bhaaee ||

The one lives together with the other in the same house, but they do not talk to one another, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਏਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੰਚ ਦੁਹੇਲੇ ਓਹ ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਠਾਈ ॥੨॥

एक बसतु बिनु पंच दुहेले ओह बसतु अगोचर ठाई ॥२॥

Ek basatu binu pancch duhele oh basatu agochar thaaee ||2||

Without the one substance, the five are miserable; that substance is in the unapproachable place. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਦੀਆ ਤਾਲਾ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਉਪਾਈ ॥

जिस का ग्रिहु तिनि दीआ ताला कुंजी गुर सउपाई ॥

Jis kaa grihu tini deeaa taalaa kunjjee gur saupaaee ||

And the one whose home it is, has locked it up, and given the key to the Guru.

ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੩॥

अनिक उपाव करे नही पावै बिनु सतिगुर सरणाई ॥३॥

Anik upaav kare nahee paavai binu satigur sara(nn)aaee ||3||

You may make all sorts of efforts, but it cannot be obtained, without the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||3||

ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥

जिन के बंधन काटे सतिगुर तिन साधसंगति लिव लाई ॥

Jin ke banddhan kaate satigur tin saadhasanggati liv laaee ||

Those whose bonds have been broken by the True Guru, enshrine love for the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਪੰਚ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥

पंच जना मिलि मंगलु गाइआ हरि नानक भेदु न भाई ॥४॥

Pancch janaa mili manggalu gaaiaa hari naanak bhedu na bhaaee ||4||

The self-elect, the self-realized beings, meet together and sing the joyous songs of the Lord. Nanak, there is no difference between them, O Siblings of Destiny. ||4||

ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥

मेरे राम राइ इन बिधि मिलै गुसाई ॥

Mere raam raai in bidhi milai gusaaee ||

This is how my Sovereign Lord King, the Lord of the Universe, is met;

ਸਹਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਠਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥੧੨੨॥

सहजु भइआ भ्रमु खिन महि नाठा मिलि जोती जोति समाई ॥१॥ रहाउ दूजा ॥१॥१२२॥

Sahaju bhaiaa bhrmu khin mahi naathaa mili jotee joti samaaee ||1|| rahaau doojaa ||1||122||

Celestial bliss is attained in an instant, and doubt is dispelled. Meeting Him, my light merges in the Light. ||1|| Second Pause ||1||122||

Never forget the Lord, Har, Har, from your mind.

ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ईहा ऊहा सरब सुखदाता सगल घटा प्रतिपारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Eehaa uhaa sarab sukhadaataa sagal ghataa prtipaare ||1|| rahaau ||

Here and hereafter, He is the Giver of all peace. He is the Cherisher of all hearts. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਹਾ ਕਸਟ ਕਾਟੈ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ ॥

महा कसट काटै खिन भीतरि रसना नामु चितारे ॥

Mahaa kasat kaatai khin bheetari rasanaa naamu chitaare ||

He removes the most terrible pains in an instant, if the tongue repeats His Name.

ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੂਖ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣੀ ਜਲਤੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

सीतल सांति सूख हरि सरणी जलती अगनि निवारे ॥१॥

Seetal saanti sookh hari sara(nn)ee jalatee agani nivaare ||1||

In the Lord's Sanctuary there is soothing coolness, peace and tranquility. He has extinguished the burning fire. ||1||

ਗਰਭ ਕੁੰਡ ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥

गरभ कुंड नरक ते राखै भवजलु पारि उतारे ॥

Garabh kundd narak te raakhai bhavajalu paari utaare ||

He saves us from the hellish pit of the womb, and carries us across the terrifying world-ocean.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਆਰਾਧਤ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

चरन कमल आराधत मन महि जम की त्रास बिदारे ॥२॥

Charan kamal aaraadhat man mahi jam kee traas bidaare ||2||

Adoring His Lotus Feet in the mind, the fear of death is banished. ||2||

ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥

पूरन पारब्रहम परमेसुर ऊचा अगम अपारे ॥

Pooran paarabrham paramesur uchaa agam apaare ||

He is the Perfect, Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, lofty, unfathomable and infinite.

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਧਿਆਵਤ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਜੂਏ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

गुण गावत धिआवत सुख सागर जूए जनमु न हारे ॥३॥

Gu(nn) gaavat dhiaavat sukh saagar jooe janamu na haare ||3||

Singing His Glorious Praises, and meditating on the Ocean of peace, one's life is not lost in the gamble. ||3||

ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨੋ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੇ ॥

कामि क्रोधि लोभि मोहि मनु लीनो निरगुण के दातारे ॥

Kaami krodhi lobhi mohi manu leeno niragu(nn) ke daataare ||

My mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, O Giver to the unworthy.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੩੮॥

करि किरपा अपुनो नामु दीजै नानक सद बलिहारे ॥४॥१॥१३८॥

Kari kirapaa apuno naamu deejai naanak sad balihaare ||4||1||138||

Please grant Your Grace, and bless me with Your Name; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||4||1||138||

ਗਉੜੀ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

गउड़ी पूरबी महला ५ ॥

Gau(rr)ee poorabee mahalaa 5 ||

Gauree Poorbee, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ॥

मेरे मन सरणि प्रभू सुख पाए ॥

Mere man sara(nn)i prbhoo sukh paae ||

O my mind, in the Sanctuary of God, peace is found.

ਜਾ ਦਿਨਿ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਤ ਅਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जा दिनि बिसरै प्रान सुखदाता सो दिनु जात अजाए ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jaa dini bisarai praan sukhadaataa so dinu jaat ajaae ||1|| rahaau ||

That day, when the Giver of life and peace is forgotten - that day passes uselessly. ||1|| Pause ||

ਏਕ ਰੈਣ ਕੇ ਪਾਹੁਨ ਤੁਮ ਆਏ ਬਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਆਸ ਬਧਾਏ ॥

एक रैण के पाहुन तुम आए बहु जुग आस बधाए ॥

Ek rai(nn) ke paahun tum aae bahu jug aas badhaae ||

You have come as a guest for one short night, and yet you hope to live for many ages.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮੰਦਰ ਸੰਪੈ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਤਰਵਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਏ ॥੧॥

ग्रिह मंदर स्मपै जो दीसै जिउ तरवर की छाए ॥१॥

Grih manddar samppai jo deesai jiu taravar kee chhaae ||1||

Households, mansions and wealth - whatever is seen, is like the shade of a tree. ||1||

ਤਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੰਪੈ ਸਭ ਮੇਰੀ ਬਾਗ ਮਿਲਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਏ ॥

तनु मेरा स्मपै सभ मेरी बाग मिलख सभ जाए ॥

Tanu meraa samppai sabh meree baag milakh sabh jaae ||

My body, wealth, and all my gardens and property shall all pass away.

ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰਾ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਏ ॥੨॥

देवनहारा बिसरिओ ठाकुरु खिन महि होत पराए ॥२॥

Devanahaaraa bisario thaakuru khin mahi hot paraae ||2||

You have forgotten your Lord and Master, the Great Giver. In an instant, these shall belong to somebody else. ||2||

ਪਹਿਰੈ ਬਾਗਾ ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨ ਲਾਏ ॥

पहिरै बागा करि इसनाना चोआ चंदन लाए ॥

Pahirai baagaa kari isanaanaa choaa chanddan laae ||

You wear white clothes and take cleansing baths, and anoint yourself with sandalwood oil.

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਜਿਉ ਹਸਤੀ ਨਾਵਾਏ ॥੩॥

निरभउ निरंकार नही चीनिआ जिउ हसती नावाए ॥३॥

Nirabhau nirankkaar nahee cheeniaa jiu hasatee naavaae ||3||

But you do not remember the Fearless, Formless Lord - you are like an elephant bathing in the mud. ||3||

ਜਉ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੈ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਏ ॥

जउ होइ क्रिपाल त सतिगुरु मेलै सभि सुख हरि के नाए ॥

Jau hoi kripaal ta satiguru melai sabhi sukh hari ke naae ||

When God becomes merciful, He leads you to meet the True Guru; all peace is in the Name of the Lord.

ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਇਆ ਬੰਧਨ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਲੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੧੫੨॥

मुकतु भइआ बंधन गुरि खोले जन नानक हरि गुण गाए ॥४॥१४॥१५२॥

Mukatu bhaiaa banddhan guri khole jan naanak hari gu(nn) gaae ||4||14||152||

The Guru has liberated me from bondage; servant Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||14||152||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਦ ਕਰੀਐ ॥

मेरे मन गुरु गुरु गुरु सद करीऐ ॥

Mere man guru guru guru sad kareeai ||

O my mind, dwell always upon the Guru, Guru, Guru.

ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

रतन जनमु सफलु गुरि कीआ दरसन कउ बलिहरीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ratan janamu saphalu guri keeaa darasan kau balihareeai ||1|| rahaau ||

The Guru has made the jewel of this human life prosperous and fruitful. I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੇਤੇ ਸਾਸ ਗ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਨੁ ਲੇਤਾ ਤੇਤੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈਐ ॥

जेते सास ग्रास मनु लेता तेते ही गुन गाईऐ ॥

Jete saas graas manu letaa tete hee gun gaaeeai ||

As many breaths and morsels as you take, O my mind - so many times, sing His Glorious Praises.

ਜਉ ਹੋਇ ਦੈਆਲੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਤਾ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥

जउ होइ दैआलु सतिगुरु अपुना ता इह मति बुधि पाईऐ ॥१॥

Jau hoi daiaalu satiguru apunaa taa ih mati budhi paaeeai ||1||

When the True Guru becomes merciful, then this wisdom and understanding is obtained. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਏ ਜਮ ਬੰਧ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

मेरे मन नामि लए जम बंध ते छूटहि सरब सुखा सुख पाईऐ ॥

Mere man naami lae jam banddh te chhootahi sarab sukhaa sukh paaeeai ||

O my mind, taking the Naam, you shall be released from the bondage of death, and the peace of all peace will be found.

ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨ ਬੰਛਤ ਫਲ ਆਈਐ ॥੨॥

सेवि सुआमी सतिगुरु दाता मन बंछत फल आईऐ ॥२॥

Sevi suaamee satiguru daataa man bancchhat phal paaeeai ||2||

Serving your Lord and Master, the True Guru, the Great Giver, you shall obtain the fruits of your mind's desires. ||2||

ਨਾਮੁ ਇਸਟੁ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਤ ਕਰਤਾ ਮਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਚਾਲੈ ॥

नामु इसटु मीत सुत करता मन संगि तुहारै चालै ॥

Naamu isatu meet sut karataa man sanggi tuhaarai chaalai ||

The Name of the Creator is your beloved friend and child; it alone shall go along with you, O my mind.

ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਲੈ ॥੩॥

करि सेवा सतिगुर अपुने की गुर ते पाईऐ पालै ॥३॥

Kari sevaa satigur apune kee gur te paaeeai paalai ||3||

So serve your True Guru, and you shall receive the Name from the Guru. ||3||

ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਰਬ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ॥

गुरि किरपालि क्रिपा प्रभि धारी बिनसे सरब अंदेसा ॥

Guri kirapaali kripaa prbhi dhaaree binase sarab anddesaa ||

When God, the Merciful Guru, showered His Mercy upon me, all my anxieties were dispelled.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸਾ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੫੩॥

नानक सुखु पाइआ हरि कीरतनि मिटिओ सगल कलेसा ॥४॥१५॥१५३॥

Naanak sukhu paaiaa hari keeratani mitio sagal kalesaa ||4||15||153||

Nanak has found the peace of the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. All his sorrows have been dispelled. ||4||15||153||

ਕਰਹਲੇ ਮਨ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ਕਿਉ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਇ ॥

करहले मन परदेसीआ किउ मिलीऐ हरि माइ ॥

Karahale man paradeseeaa kiu mileeai hari maai ||

O my wandering mind, you are like a camel - how will you meet the Lord, your Mother?

ਗੁਰੁ ਭਾਗਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਲਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਇ ॥੧॥

गुरु भागि पूरै पाइआ गलि मिलिआ पिआरा आइ ॥१॥

Guru bhaagi poorai paaiaa gali miliaa piaaraa aai ||1||

When I found the Guru, by the destiny of perfect good fortune, my Beloved came and embraced me. ||1||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मन करहला सतिगुरु पुरखु धिआइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Man karahalaa satiguru purakhu dhiaai ||1|| rahaau ||

O camel-like mind, meditate on the True Guru, the Primal Being. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

मन करहला वीचारीआ हरि राम नाम धिआइ ॥

Man karahalaa veechaareeaa hari raam naam dhiaai ||

O camel-like mind, contemplate the Lord, and meditate on the Lord's Name.

ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੨॥

जिथै लेखा मंगीऐ हरि आपे लए छडाइ ॥२॥

Jithai lekhaa manggeeai hari aape lae chhadaai ||2||

When you are called to answer for your account, the Lord Himself shall release you. ||2||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਆਇ ॥

मन करहला अति निरमला मलु लागी हउमै आइ ॥

Man karahalaa ati niramalaa malu laagee haumai aai ||

O camel-like mind, you were once very pure; the filth of egotism has now attached itself to you.

ਪਰਤਖਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥

परतखि पिरु घरि नालि पिआरा विछुड़ि चोटा खाइ ॥३॥

Paratakhi piru ghari naali piaaraa vichhu(rr)i chotaa khaai ||3||

Your Beloved Husband is now manifest before you in your own home, but you are separated from Him, and you suffer such pain! ||3||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਭਾਲਿ ਭਾਲਾਇ ॥

मन करहला मेरे प्रीतमा हरि रिदै भालि भालाइ ॥

Man karahalaa mere preetamaa hari ridai bhaali bhaalaai ||

O my beloved camel-like mind, search for the Lord within your own heart.

ਉਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਇ ॥੪॥

उपाइ कितै न लभई गुरु हिरदै हरि देखाइ ॥४॥

Upaai kitai na labhaee guru hiradai hari dekhaai ||4||

He cannot be found by any device; the Guru will show you the Lord within your heart. ||4||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

मन करहला मेरे प्रीतमा दिनु रैणि हरि लिव लाइ ॥

Man karahalaa mere preetamaa dinu rai(nn)i hari liv laai ||

O my beloved camel-like mind, day and night, lovingly attune yourself to the Lord.

ਘਰੁ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਰੰਗ ਮਹਲੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥੫॥

घरु जाइ पावहि रंग महली गुरु मेले हरि मेलाइ ॥५॥

Gharu jaai paavahi rangg mahalee guru mele hari melaai ||5||

Return to your own home, and find the palace of love; meet the Guru, and meet the Lord. ||5||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੀਤੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਤਜਾਇ ॥

मन करहला तूं मीतु मेरा पाखंडु लोभु तजाइ ॥

Man karahalaa toonn meetu meraa paakhanddu lobhu tajaai ||

O camel-like mind, you are my friend; abandon hypocrisy and greed.

ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਜਮ ਡੰਡੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੬॥

पाखंडि लोभी मारीऐ जम डंडु देइ सजाइ ॥६॥

Paakhanddi lobhee maareeai jam danddu dei sajaai ||6||

The hypocritical and the greedy are struck down; the Messenger of Death punishes them with his club. ||6||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

मन करहला मेरे प्रान तूं मैलु पाखंडु भरमु गवाइ ॥

Man karahalaa mere praan toonn mailu paakhanddu bharamu gavaai ||

O camel-like mind, you are my breath of life; rid yourself of the pollution of hypocrisy and doubt.

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਮਲੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥

हरि अम्रित सरु गुरि पूरिआ मिलि संगती मलु लहि जाइ ॥७॥

Hari ammmrit saru guri pooriaa mili sanggatee malu lahi jaai ||7||

The Perfect Guru is the Ambrosial Pool of the Lord's Nectar; join the Holy Congregation, and wash away this pollution. ||7||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਇਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਾਇ ॥

मन करहला मेरे पिआरिआ इक गुर की सिख सुणाइ ॥

Man karahalaa mere piaariaa ik gur kee sikh su(nn)aai ||

O my dear beloved camel-like mind, listen only to the Teachings of the Guru.

ਇਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਇ ॥੮॥

इहु मोहु माइआ पसरिआ अंति साथि न कोई जाइ ॥८॥

Ihu mohu maaiaa pasariaa antti saathi na koee jaai ||8||

This emotional attachment to Maya is so pervasive. Ultimately, nothing shall go along with anyone. ||8||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਜਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਖਰਚੁ ਲੀਆ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

मन करहला मेरे साजना हरि खरचु लीआ पति पाइ ॥

Man karahalaa mere saajanaa hari kharachu leeaa pati paai ||

O camel-like mind, my good friend, take the supplies of the Lord's Name, and obtain honor.

ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਨਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਲਇਆ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੯॥

हरि दरगह पैनाइआ हरि आपि लइआ गलि लाइ ॥९॥

Hari daragah painaaiaa hari aapi laiaa gali laai ||9||

In the Court of the Lord, you shall be robed with honor, and the Lord Himself shall embrace you. ||9||

ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

मन करहला गुरि मंनिआ गुरमुखि कार कमाइ ॥

Man karahalaa guri manniaa guramukhi kaar kamaai ||

O camel-like mind, one who surrenders to the Guru becomes Gurmukh, and works for the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਦੜੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥੧੦॥੧॥

गुर आगै करि जोदड़ी जन नानक हरि मेलाइ ॥१०॥१॥

Gur aagai kari joda(rr)ee jan naanak hari melaai ||10||1||

Offer your prayers to the Guru; O servant Nanak, He shall unite you with the Lord. ||10||1||

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिनामु करता पुरखु गुरप्रसादि ॥

ਮੁੰਧ ਰੈਣਿ ਦੁਹੇਲੜੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

मुंध रैणि दुहेलड़ीआ जीउ नीद न आवै ॥

Munddh rai(nn)i duhela(rr)eeaa jeeu need na aavai ||

For the bride, the night is painful; sleep does not come.

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਦੁਬਲੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਹਾਵੈ ॥

सा धन दुबलीआ जीउ पिर कै हावै ॥

Saa dhan dubaleeaa jeeu pir kai haavai ||

The soul-bride has grown weak, in the pain of separation from her Husband Lord.

ਧਨ ਥੀਈ ਦੁਬਲਿ ਕੰਤ ਹਾਵੈ ਕੇਵ ਨੈਣੀ ਦੇਖਏ ॥

धन थीई दुबलि कंत हावै केव नैणी देखए ॥

Dhan theeee dubali kantt haavai kev nai(nn)ee dekhae ||

The soul-bride is wasting away, in the pain of separation from her Husband; how can she see Him with her eyes?

ਸੀਗਾਰ ਮਿਠ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਜਨ ਸਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲੇਖਏ ॥

सीगार मिठ रस भोग भोजन सभु झूठु कितै न लेखए ॥

Seegaar mith ras bhog bhojan sabhu jhoothu kitai na lekhae ||

Her decorations, sweet foods, sensuous pleasures and delicacies are all false; they are of no account at all.

ਮੈ ਮਤ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਗਾਲੀ ਦੁਧਾ ਥਣੀ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥

मै मत जोबनि गरबि गाली दुधा थणी न आवए ॥

Mai mat jobani garabi gaalee dudhaa tha(nn)ee na aavae ||

Intoxicated with the wine of youthful pride, she has been ruined, and her breasts no longer yield milk.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥੧॥

नानक सा धन मिलै मिलाई बिनु पिर नीद न आवए ॥१॥

Naanak saa dhan milai milaaee binu pir need na aavae ||1||

O Nanak, the soul-bride meets her Husband Lord, when He causes her to meet Him; without Him, sleep does not come to her. ||1||

ਮੁੰਧ ਨਿਮਾਨੜੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਧਨੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

मुंध निमानड़ीआ जीउ बिनु धनी पिआरे ॥

Munddh nimaana(rr)eeaa jeeu binu dhanee piaare ||

The bride is dishonored without her Beloved Husband Lord.

ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈਗੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

किउ सुखु पावैगी बिनु उर धारे ॥

Kiu sukhu paavaigee binu ur dhaare ||

How can she find peace, without enshrining Him in her heart?

ਨਾਹ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਆ ॥

नाह बिनु घर वासु नाही पुछहु सखी सहेलीआ ॥

Naah binu ghar vaasu naahee puchhahu sakhee saheleeaa ||

Without her Husband, her home is not worth living in; go and ask your sisters and companions.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਵਸਹਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੀਆ ॥

बिनु नाम प्रीति पिआरु नाही वसहि साचि सुहेलीआ ॥

Binu naam preeti piaaru naahee vasahi saachi suheleeaa ||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, there is no love and affection; but with her True Lord, she abides in peace.

ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਸਜਨ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥

सचु मनि सजन संतोखि मेला गुरमती सहु जाणिआ ॥

Sachu mani sajan santtokhi melaa guramatee sahu jaa(nn)iaa ||

Through mental truthfulness and contentment, union with the True Friend is attained; through the Guru's Teachings, the Husband Lord is known.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀਆ ॥੨॥

नानक नामु न छोडै सा धन नामि सहजि समाणीआ ॥२॥

Naanak naamu na chhodai saa dhan naami sahaji samaa(nn)eeaa ||2||

O Nanak, that soul-bride who does not abandon the Naam, is intuitively absorbed in the Naam. ||2||

ਮਿਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੜੀਹੋ ਹਮ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇਹਾ ॥

मिलु सखी सहेलड़ीहो हम पिरु रावेहा ॥

Milu sakhee sahela(rr)eeho ham piru raavehaa ||

Come, O my sisters and companions - let's enjoy our Husband Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪੁਛਿ ਲਿਖਉਗੀ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਨੇਹਾ ॥

गुर पुछि लिखउगी जीउ सबदि सनेहा ॥

Gur puchhi likhaugee jeeu sabadi sanehaa ||

I will ask the Guru, and write His Word as my love-note.

ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੀਆ ॥

सबदु साचा गुरि दिखाइआ मनमुखी पछुताणीआ ॥

Sabadu saachaa guri dikhaaiaa manamukhee pachhutaa(nn)eeaa ||

The Guru has shown me the True Word of the Shabad. The self-willed manmukhs will regret and repent.

ਨਿਕਸਿ ਜਾਤਉ ਰਹੈ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਜਾਮਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥

निकसि जातउ रहै असथिरु जामि सचु पछाणिआ ॥

Nikasi jaatau rahai asathiru jaami sachu pachhaa(nn)iaa ||

My wandering mind became steady, when I recognized the True One.

ਸਾਚ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਨਉਤਨ ਸਬਦਿ ਨੇਹੁ ਨਵੇਲਓ ॥

साच की मति सदा नउतन सबदि नेहु नवेलओ ॥

Saach kee mati sadaa nautan sabadi nehu navelo ||

The Teachings of Truth are forever new; the love of the Shabad is forever fresh.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ॥੩॥

नानक नदरी सहजि साचा मिलहु सखी सहेलीहो ॥३॥

Naanak nadaree sahaji saachaa milahu sakhee saheleeho ||3||

O Nanak, through the Glance of Grace of the True Lord, celestial peace is obtained; let's meet Him, O my sisters and companions. ||3||

ਮੇਰੀ ਇਛ ਪੁਨੀ ਜੀਉ ਹਮ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਆਇਆ ॥

मेरी इछ पुनी जीउ हम घरि साजनु आइआ ॥

Meree ichh punee jeeu ham ghari saajanu aaiaa ||

My desire has been fulfilled - my Friend has come to my home.

ਮਿਲਿ ਵਰੁ ਨਾਰੀ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥

मिलि वरु नारी मंगलु गाइआ ॥

Mili varu naaree manggalu gaaiaa ||

At the Union of husband and wife, the songs of rejoicing were sung.

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਰਹਸੀ ਮੁੰਧ ਮਨਿ ਓਮਾਹਓ ॥

गुण गाइ मंगलु प्रेमि रहसी मुंध मनि ओमाहओ ॥

Gu(nn) gaai manggalu premi rahasee munddh mani omaaho ||

Singing the songs of joyful praise and love to Him, the soul-bride's mind is thrilled and delighted.

ਸਾਜਨ ਰਹੰਸੇ ਦੁਸਟ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਜਪਿ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਹਓ ॥

साजन रहंसे दुसट विआपे साचु जपि सचु लाहओ ॥

Saajan rahansse dusat viaape saachu japi sachu laaho ||

My friends are happy, and my enemies are unhappy; meditating on the True Lord, the true profit is obtained.

ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਸਿ ਭਿੰਨੀਆ ॥

कर जोड़ि सा धन करै बिनती रैणि दिनु रसि भिंनीआ ॥

Kar jo(rr)i saa dhan karai binatee rai(nn)i dinu rasi bhinneeaa ||

With her palms pressed together, the soul-bride prays, that she may remain immersed in the Love of her Lord, night and day.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰੁ ਧਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਰਲੀਆ ਇਛ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੁੰਨੀਆ ॥੪॥੧॥

नानक पिरु धन करहि रलीआ इछ मेरी पुंनीआ ॥४॥१॥

Naanak piru dhan karahi raleeaa ichh meree punneeaa ||4||1||

O Nanak, the Husband Lord and the soul-bride revel together; my desires are fulfilled. ||4||1||

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिनामु करता पुरखु गुरप्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satinaamu karataa purakhu guraprsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. By Guru's Grace:

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੇ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇ ॥

सा धन बिनउ करे जीउ हरि के गुण सारे ॥

Saa dhan binau kare jeeu hari ke gu(nn) saare ||

The soul-bride offers her prayers to her Dear Lord; she dwells upon His Glorious Virtues.

ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

खिनु पलु रहि न सकै जीउ बिनु हरि पिआरे ॥

Khinu palu rahi na sakai jeeu binu hari piaare ||

She cannot live without her Beloved Lord, for a moment, even for an instant.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

बिनु हरि पिआरे रहि न साकै गुर बिनु महलु न पाईऐ ॥

Binu hari piaare rahi na saakai gur binu mahalu na paaeeai ||

She cannot live without her Beloved Lord; without the Guru, the Mansion of His Presence is not found.

ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈਐ ॥

जो गुरु कहै सोई परु कीजै तिसना अगनि बुझाईऐ ॥

Jo guru kahai soee paru keejai tisanaa agani bujhaaeeai ||

Whatever the Guru says, she should surely do, to extinguish the fire of desire.

ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

हरि साचा सोई तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोई बिनु सेविऐ सुखु न पाए ॥

Hari saachaa soee tisu binu avaru na koee binu seviai sukhu na paae ||

The Lord is True; there is no one except Him. Without serving Him, peace is not found.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧॥

नानक सा धन मिलै मिलाई जिस नो आपि मिलाए ॥१॥

Naanak saa dhan milai milaaee jis no aapi milaae ||1||

O Nanak, that soul-bride, whom the Lord Himself unites, is united with Him; He Himself merges with her. ||1||

ਧਨ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੜੀਏ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

धन रैणि सुहेलड़ीए जीउ हरि सिउ चितु लाए ॥

Dhan rai(nn)i suhela(rr)eee jeeu hari siu chitu laae ||

The life-night of the soul-bride is blessed and joyful, when she focuses her consciousness on her Dear Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇ ਜੀਉ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवे भाउ करे जीउ विचहु आपु गवाए ॥

Satiguru seve bhaau kare jeeu vichahu aapu gavaae ||

She serves the True Guru with love; she eradicates selfishness from within.

ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਭਾਓ ॥

विचहु आपु गवाए हरि गुण गाए अनदिनु लागा भाओ ॥

Vichahu aapu gavaae hari gu(nn) gaae anadinu laagaa bhaao ||

Eradicating selfishness and conceit from within, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, she is in love with the Lord, night and day.

ਸੁਣਿ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਮੇਲੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਓ ॥

सुणि सखी सहेली जीअ की मेली गुर कै सबदि समाओ ॥

Su(nn)i sakhee sahelee jeea kee melee gur kai sabadi samaao ||

Listen, dear friends and companions of the soul - immerse yourselves in the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਧਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥

हरि गुण सारी ता कंत पिआरी नामे धरी पिआरो ॥

Hari gu(nn) saaree taa kantt piaaree naame dharee piaaro ||

Dwell upon the Lord's Glories, and you shall be loved by your Husband, embracing love for the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਗਲਿ ਹਾਰੋ ॥੨॥

नानक कामणि नाह पिआरी राम नामु गलि हारो ॥२॥

Naanak kaama(nn)i naah piaaree raam naamu gali haaro ||2||

O Nanak, the soul-bride who wears the necklace of the Lord's Name around her neck is loved by her Husband Lord. ||2||

ਧਨ ਏਕਲੜੀ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

धन एकलड़ी जीउ बिनु नाह पिआरे ॥

Dhan ekala(rr)ee jeeu binu naah piaare ||

The soul-bride who is without her beloved Husband is all alone.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮੁਠੀ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥

दूजै भाइ मुठी जीउ बिनु गुर सबद करारे ॥

Doojai bhaai muthee jeeu binu gur sabad karaare ||

She is cheated by the love of duality, without the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਉਣੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਈ ॥

बिनु सबद पिआरे कउणु दुतरु तारे माइआ मोहि खुआई ॥

Binu sabad piaare kau(nn)u dutaru taare maaiaa mohi khuaaee ||

Without the Shabad of her Beloved, how can she cross over the treacherous ocean? Attachment to Maya has led her astray.

ਕੂੜਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਤਾ ਪਿਰਿ ਮੁਤੀ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

कूड़ि विगुती ता पिरि मुती सा धन महलु न पाई ॥

Koo(rr)i vigutee taa piri mutee saa dhan mahalu na paaee ||

Ruined by falsehood, she is deserted by her Husband Lord. The soul-bride does not attain the Mansion of His Presence.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

गुर सबदे राती सहजे माती अनदिनु रहै समाए ॥

Gur sabade raatee sahaje maatee anadinu rahai samaae ||

But she who is attuned to the Guru's Shabad is intoxicated with celestial love; night and day, she remains absorbed in Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੩॥

नानक कामणि सदा रंगि राती हरि जीउ आपि मिलाए ॥३॥

Naanak kaama(nn)i sadaa ranggi raatee hari jeeu aapi milaae ||3||

O Nanak, that soul-bride who remains constantly steeped in His Love, is blended by the Lord into Himself. ||3||

ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਣੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

ता मिलीऐ हरि मेले जीउ हरि बिनु कवणु मिलाए ॥

Taa mileeai hari mele jeeu hari binu kava(nn)u milaae ||

If the Lord merges us with Himself, we are merged with Him. Without the Dear Lord, who can merge us with Him?

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਉ ਕਉਣੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥

बिनु गुर प्रीतम आपणे जीउ कउणु भरमु चुकाए ॥

Binu gur preetam aapa(nn)e jeeu kau(nn)u bharamu chukaae ||

Without our Beloved Guru, who can dispel our doubt?

ਗੁਰੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਇਉ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਮਾਏ ਤਾ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

गुरु भरमु चुकाए इउ मिलीऐ माए ता सा धन सुखु पाए ॥

Guru bharamu chukaae iu mileeai maae taa saa dhan sukhu paae ||

Through the Guru, doubt is dispelled. O my mother, this is the way to meet Him; this is how the soul-bride finds peace.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

गुर सेवा बिनु घोर अंधारु बिनु गुर मगु न पाए ॥

Gur sevaa binu ghor anddhaaru binu gur magu na paae ||

Without serving the Guru, there is only pitch darkness. Without the Guru, the Way is not found.

ਕਾਮਣਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

कामणि रंगि राती सहजे माती गुर कै सबदि वीचारे ॥

Kaama(nn)i ranggi raatee sahaje maatee gur kai sabadi veechaare ||

That wife who is intuitively imbued with the color of His Love, contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥

नानक कामणि हरि वरु पाइआ गुर कै भाइ पिआरे ॥४॥१॥

Naanak kaama(nn)i hari varu paaiaa gur kai bhaai piaare ||4||1||

O Nanak, the soul-bride obtains the Lord as her Husband, by enshrining love for the Beloved Guru. ||4||1||

ਜਹ ਕਛੁ ਅਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਤਹ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

जह कछु अहा तहा किछु नाही पंच ततु तह नाही ॥

Jah kachhu ahaa tahaa kichhu naahee pancch tatu tah naahee ||

Where something existed, now there is nothing. The five elements are no longer there.

ਇੜਾ ਪਿੰਗੁਲਾ ਸੁਖਮਨ ਬੰਦੇ ਏ ਅਵਗਨ ਕਤ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੧॥

इड़ा पिंगुला सुखमन बंदे ए अवगन कत जाही ॥१॥

I(rr)aa pinggulaa sukhaman bandde e avagan kat jaahee ||1||

The Ida, the Pingala and the Sushmanaa - O human being, how can the breaths through these be counted now? ||1||

ਤਾਗਾ ਤੂਟਾ ਗਗਨੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਗਇਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਬੋਲਤੁ ਕਹਾ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

तागा तूटा गगनु बिनसि गइआ तेरा बोलतु कहा समाई ॥

Taagaa tootaa gaganu binasi gaiaa teraa bolatu kahaa samaaee ||

The string has been broken, and the Sky of the Tenth Gate has been destroyed. Where has your speech gone?

ਏਹ ਸੰਸਾ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੋ ਨ ਕਹੈ ਸਮਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

एह संसा मो कउ अनदिनु बिआपै मो कउ को न कहै समझाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Eh sanssaa mo kau anadinu biaapai mo kau ko na kahai samajhaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

This cynicism afflicts me, night and day; who can explain this to me and help me understand? ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਹ ਬਰਭੰਡੁ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਤਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਚਨਹਾਰੁ ਤਹ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

जह बरभंडु पिंडु तह नाही रचनहारु तह नाही ॥

Jah barabhanddu pinddu tah naahee rachanahaaru tah naahee ||

Where the world is - the body is not there; the mind is not there either.

ਜੋੜਨਹਾਰੋ ਸਦਾ ਅਤੀਤਾ ਇਹ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਸੁ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥

जोड़नहारो सदा अतीता इह कहीऐ किसु माही ॥२॥

Jo(rr)anahaaro sadaa ateetaa ih kaheeai kisu maahee ||2||

The Joiner is forever unattached; now, within whom is the soul said to be contained? ||2||

ਜੋੜੀ ਜੁੜੈ ਨ ਤੋੜੀ ਤੂਟੈ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥

जोड़ी जुड़ै न तोड़ी तूटै जब लगु होइ बिनासी ॥

Jo(rr)ee ju(rr)ai na to(rr)ee tootai jab lagu hoi binaasee ||

By joining the elements, people cannot join them, and by breaking, they cannot be broken, until the body perishes.

ਕਾ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਾ ਕੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੈ ਜਾਸੀ ॥੩॥

का को ठाकुरु का को सेवकु को काहू कै जासी ॥३॥

Kaa ko thaakuru kaa ko sevaku ko kaahoo kai jaasee ||3||

Of whom is the soul the master, and of whom is it the servant? Where, and to whom does it go? ||3||

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਹਾ ਬਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥

कहु कबीर लिव लागि रही है जहा बसे दिन राती ॥

Kahu kabeer liv laagi rahee hai jahaa base din raatee ||

Says Kabeer, I have lovingly focused my attention on that place where the Lord dwells, day and night.

ਉਆ ਕਾ ਮਰਮੁ ਓਹੀ ਪਰੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਓਹੁ ਤਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੫੨॥

उआ का मरमु ओही परु जानै ओहु तउ सदा अबिनासी ॥४॥१॥५२॥

Uaa kaa maramu ohee paru jaanai ohu tau sadaa abinaasee ||4||1||52||

Only He Himself truly knows the secrets of His mystery; He is eternal and indestructible. ||4||1||52||

Gauree Poorbee:

ਸੁਰਗ ਬਾਸੁ ਨ ਬਾਛੀਐ ਡਰੀਐ ਨ ਨਰਕਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥

सुरग बासु न बाछीऐ डरीऐ न नरकि निवासु ॥

Surag baasu na baachheeai dareeai na naraki nivaasu ||

Don't wish for a home in heaven, and don't be afraid to live in hell.

ਹੋਨਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਮਨਹਿ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਆਸ ॥੧॥

होना है सो होई है मनहि न कीजै आस ॥१॥

Honaa hai so hoee hai manahi na keejai aas ||1||

Whatever will be will be, so don't get your hopes up in your mind. ||1||

ਰਮਈਆ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈਐ ॥

रमईआ गुन गाईऐ ॥

Ramaeeaa gun gaaeeai ||

Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord,

ਜਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जा ते पाईऐ परम निधानु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jaa te paaeeai param nidhaanu ||1|| rahaau ||

From whom the most excellent treasure is obtained. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਕਿਆ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੋ ਕਿਆ ਬਰਤੁ ਕਿਆ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥

किआ जपु किआ तपु संजमो किआ बरतु किआ इसनानु ॥

Kiaa japu kiaa tapu sanjjamo kiaa baratu kiaa isanaanu ||

What good is chanting, penance or self-mortification? What good is fasting or cleansing baths,

ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੨॥

जब लगु जुगति न जानीऐ भाउ भगति भगवान ॥२॥

Jab lagu jugati na jaaneeai bhaau bhagati bhagavaan ||2||

Unless you know the way to worship the Lord God with loving devotion? ||2||

ਸੰਪੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਹਰਖੀਐ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਰੋਇ ॥

स्मपै देखि न हरखीऐ बिपति देखि न रोइ ॥

Samppai dekhi na harakheeai bipati dekhi na roi ||

Don't feel so delighted at the sight of wealth, and don't weep at the sight of suffering and adversity.

ਜਿਉ ਸੰਪੈ ਤਿਉ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਬਿਧ ਨੇ ਰਚਿਆ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥

जिउ स्मपै तिउ बिपति है बिध ने रचिआ सो होइ ॥३॥

Jiu samppai tiu bipati hai bidh ne rachiaa so hoi ||3||

As is wealth, so is adversity; whatever the Lord proposes, comes to pass. ||3||

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਸੰਤਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥

कहि कबीर अब जानिआ संतन रिदै मझारि ॥

Kahi kabeer ab jaaniaa santtan ridai majhaari ||

Says Kabeer, now I know that the Lord dwells within the hearts of His Saints;

ਸੇਵਕ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਲੇ ਜਿਹ ਘਟ ਬਸੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨॥੬੩॥

सेवक सो सेवा भले जिह घट बसै मुरारि ॥४॥१॥१२॥६३॥

Sevak so sevaa bhale jih ghat basai muraari ||4||1||12||63||

That servant performs the best service, whose heart is filled with the Lord. ||4||1||12||63||

बिपल बसत्र केते है पहिरे किआ बन मधे बासा ॥

Bipal basatr kete hai pahire kiaa ban madhe baasaa ||

Many people wear various robes, but what is the use of living in the forest?

ਕਹਾ ਭਇਆ ਨਰ ਦੇਵਾ ਧੋਖੇ ਕਿਆ ਜਲਿ ਬੋਰਿਓ ਗਿਆਤਾ ॥੧॥

कहा भइआ नर देवा धोखे किआ जलि बोरिओ गिआता ॥१॥

Kahaa bhaiaa nar devaa dhokhe kiaa jali borio giaataa ||1||

What good does it do if a man burns incense before his gods? What good does it do to dip one's body in water? ||1||

ਜੀਅਰੇ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਾਂ ॥

जीअरे जाहिगा मै जानां ॥

Jeeare jaahigaa mai jaanaan ||

O soul, I know that I will have to depart.

ਅਬਿਗਤ ਸਮਝੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥

अबिगत समझु इआना ॥

Abigat samajhu iaanaa ||

You ignorant idiot: understand the Imperishable Lord.

ਜਤ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਪੇਖਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जत जत देखउ बहुरि न पेखउ संगि माइआ लपटाना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jat jat dekhau bahuri na pekhau sanggi maaiaa lapataanaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Whatever you see, you will not see that again, but still, you cling to Maya. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਬਹੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੀ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸਗਲੋ ਧੰਧਾ ॥

गिआनी धिआनी बहु उपदेसी इहु जगु सगलो धंधा ॥

Giaanee dhiaanee bahu upadesee ihu jagu sagalo dhanddhaa ||

The spiritual teachers, meditators and the great preachers are all engrossed in these worldly affairs.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਇਆ ਜਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਅੰਧਾ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੬॥੬੭॥

कहि कबीर इक राम नाम बिनु इआ जगु माइआ अंधा ॥२॥१॥१६॥६७॥

Kahi kabeer ik raam naam binu iaa jagu maaiaa anddhaa ||2||1||16||67||

Says Kabeer, without the Name of the One Lord, this world is blinded by Maya. ||2||1||16||67||

ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਬਾਵਨ ਅਖਰੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ

रागु गउड़ी पूरबी बावन अखरी कबीर जीउ की

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिनामु करता पुरखु गुरप्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satinaamu karataa purakhu guraprsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. By Guru's Grace:

ਬਾਵਨ ਅਛਰ ਲੋਕ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

बावन अछर लोक त्रै सभु कछु इन ही माहि ॥

Baavan achhar lok trai sabhu kachhu in hee maahi ||

Through these fifty-two letters, the three worlds and all things are described.

ਏ ਅਖਰ ਖਿਰਿ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਓਇ ਅਖਰ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

ए अखर खिरि जाहिगे ओइ अखर इन महि नाहि ॥१॥

E akhar khiri jaahige oi akhar in mahi naahi ||1||

These letters shall perish; they cannot describe the Imperishable Lord. ||1||

ਜਹਾ ਬੋਲ ਤਹ ਅਛਰ ਆਵਾ ॥

जहा बोल तह अछर आवा ॥

Jahaa bol tah achhar aavaa ||

Wherever there is speech, there are letters.

ਜਹ ਅਬੋਲ ਤਹ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਵਾ ॥

जह अबोल तह मनु न रहावा ॥

Jah abol tah manu na rahaavaa ||

Where there is no speech, there, the mind rests on nothing.

ਬੋਲ ਅਬੋਲ ਮਧਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ॥

बोल अबोल मधि है सोई ॥

Bol abol madhi hai soee ||

He is in both speech and silence.

ਜਸ ਓਹੁ ਹੈ ਤਸ ਲਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥

जस ओहु है तस लखै न कोई ॥२॥

Jas ohu hai tas lakhai na koee ||2||

No one can know Him as He is. ||2||

ਅਲਹ ਲਹਉ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਉ ਕਹਉ ਤ ਕੋ ਉਪਕਾਰ ॥

अलह लहउ तउ किआ कहउ कहउ त को उपकार ॥

Alah lahau tau kiaa kahau kahau ta ko upakaar ||

If I come to know the Lord, what can I say; what good does it do to speak?

ਬਟਕ ਬੀਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥੩॥

बटक बीज महि रवि रहिओ जा को तीनि लोक बिसथार ॥३॥

Batak beej mahi ravi rahio jaa ko teeni lok bisathaar ||3||

He is contained in the seed of the banyan-tree, and yet, His expanse spreads across the three worlds. ||3||

ਅਲਹ ਲਹੰਤਾ ਭੇਦ ਛੈ ਕਛੁ ਕਛੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਭੇਦ ॥

अलह लहंता भेद छै कछु कछु पाइओ भेद ॥

Alah lahanttaa bhed chhai kachhu kachhu paaio bhed ||

One who knows the Lord understands His mystery, and bit by bit, the mystery disappears.

ਉਲਟਿ ਭੇਦ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਓ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਭੰਗ ਅਛੇਦ ॥੪॥

उलटि भेद मनु बेधिओ पाइओ अभंग अछेद ॥४॥

Ulati bhed manu bedhio paaio abhangg achhed ||4||

Turning away from the world, one's mind is pierced through with this mystery, and one obtains the Indestructible, Impenetrable Lord. ||4||

ਤੁਰਕ ਤਰੀਕਤਿ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥

तुरक तरीकति जानीऐ हिंदू बेद पुरान ॥

Turak tareekati jaaneeai hinddoo bed puraan ||

The Muslim knows the Muslim way of life; the Hindu knows the Vedas and Puraanas.

ਮਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਨ ਕਾਰਨੇ ਕਛੂਅਕ ਪੜੀਐ ਗਿਆਨ ॥੫॥

मन समझावन कारने कछूअक पड़ीऐ गिआन ॥५॥

Man samajhaavan kaarane kachhooak pa(rr)eeai giaan ||5||

To instruct their minds, people ought to study some sort of spiritual wisdom. ||5||

ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਆਦਿ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

ओअंकार आदि मै जाना ॥

Oankkaar aadi mai jaanaa ||

I know only the One, the Universal Creator, the Primal Being.

ਲਿਖਿ ਅਰੁ ਮੇਟੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਮਾਨਾ ॥

लिखि अरु मेटै ताहि न माना ॥

Likhi aru metai taahi na maanaa ||

I do not believe in anyone whom the Lord writes and erases.

ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥

ओअंकार लखै जउ कोई ॥

Oankkaar lakhai jau koee ||

If someone knows the One, the Universal Creator,

ਸੋਈ ਲਖਿ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥

सोई लखि मेटणा न होई ॥६॥

Soee lakhi meta(nn)aa na hoee ||6||

He shall not perish, since he knows Him. ||6||

ਕਕਾ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਕਮਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

कका किरणि कमल महि पावा ॥

Kakaa kira(nn)i kamal mahi paavaa ||

KAKKA: When the rays of Divine Light come into the heart-lotus,

ਸਸਿ ਬਿਗਾਸ ਸੰਪਟ ਨਹੀ ਆਵਾ ॥

ससि बिगास स्मपट नही आवा ॥

Sasi bigaas samppat nahee aavaa ||

The moon-light of Maya cannot enter the basket of the mind.

ਅਰੁ ਜੇ ਤਹਾ ਕੁਸਮ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

अरु जे तहा कुसम रसु पावा ॥

Aru je tahaa kusam rasu paavaa ||

And if one obtains the subtle fragrance of that spiritual flower,

ਅਕਹ ਕਹਾ ਕਹਿ ਕਾ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥੭॥

अकह कहा कहि का समझावा ॥७॥

Akah kahaa kahi kaa samajhaavaa ||7||

He cannot describe the indescribable; he could speak, but who would understand? ||7||

ਖਖਾ ਇਹੈ ਖੋੜਿ ਮਨ ਆਵਾ ॥

खखा इहै खोड़ि मन आवा ॥

Khakhaa ihai kho(rr)i man aavaa ||

KHAKHA: The mind has entered this cave.

ਖੋੜੇ ਛਾਡਿ ਨ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਾ ॥

खोड़े छाडि न दह दिस धावा ॥

Kho(rr)e chhaadi na dah dis dhaavaa ||

It does not leave this cave to wander in the ten directions.

ਖਸਮਹਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਖਿਮਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੈ ॥

खसमहि जाणि खिमा करि रहै ॥

Khasamahi jaa(nn)i khimaa kari rahai ||

Knowing their Lord and Master, people show compassion;

ਤਉ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਖਿਅਉ ਅਖੈ ਪਦੁ ਲਹੈ ॥੮॥

तउ होइ निखिअउ अखै पदु लहै ॥८॥

Tau hoi nikhiau akhai padu lahai ||8||

Then, they become immortal, and attain the state of eternal dignity. ||8||

ਗਗਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥

गगा गुर के बचन पछाना ॥

Gagaa gur ke bachan pachhaanaa ||

GAGGA: One who understands the Guru's Word

ਦੂਜੀ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਧਰਈ ਕਾਨਾ ॥

दूजी बात न धरई काना ॥

Doojee baat na dharaee kaanaa ||

Does not listen to anything else.

ਰਹੈ ਬਿਹੰਗਮ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

रहै बिहंगम कतहि न जाई ॥

Rahai bihanggam katahi na jaaee ||

He remains like a hermit and does not go anywhere,

ਅਗਹ ਗਹੈ ਗਹਿ ਗਗਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥੯॥

अगह गहै गहि गगन रहाई ॥९॥

Agah gahai gahi gagan rahaaee ||9||

When he grasps the Ungraspable Lord and dwells in the sky of the Tenth Gate. ||9||

ਘਘਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਿਮਸੈ ਸੋਈ ॥

घघा घटि घटि निमसै सोई ॥

Ghaghaa ghati ghati nimasai soee ||

GHAGHA: He dwells in each and every heart.

ਘਟ ਫੂਟੇ ਘਟਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

घट फूटे घटि कबहि न होई ॥

Ghat phoote ghati kabahi na hoee ||

Even when the body-pitcher bursts, he does not diminish.

ਤਾ ਘਟ ਮਾਹਿ ਘਾਟ ਜਉ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

ता घट माहि घाट जउ पावा ॥

Taa ghat maahi ghaat jau paavaa ||

When someone finds the Path to the Lord within his own heart,

ਸੋ ਘਟੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਅਵਘਟ ਕਤ ਧਾਵਾ ॥੧੦॥

सो घटु छाडि अवघट कत धावा ॥१०॥

So ghatu chhaadi avaghat kat dhaavaa ||10||

Why should he abandon that Path to follow some other path? ||10||

ਙੰਙਾ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਸਨੇਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਰਵਾਰੋ ਸੰਦੇਹ ॥

ङंङा निग्रहि सनेहु करि निरवारो संदेह ॥

(Ng)an(ng)(ng)aa nigrhi sanehu kari niravaaro sanddeh ||

NGANGA: Restrain yourself, love the Lord, and dismiss your doubts.

ਨਾਹੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭਾਜੀਐ ਪਰਮ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਏਹ ॥੧੧॥

नाही देखि न भाजीऐ परम सिआनप एह ॥११॥

Naahee dekhi na bhaajeeai param siaanap eh ||11||

Even if you do not see the Path, do not run away; this is the highest wisdom. ||11||

ਚਚਾ ਰਚਿਤ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

चचा रचित चित्र है भारी ॥

Chachaa rachit chitr hai bhaaree ||

CHACHA: He painted the great picture of the world.

ਤਜਿ ਚਿਤ੍ਰੈ ਚੇਤਹੁ ਚਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥

तजि चित्रै चेतहु चितकारी ॥

Taji chitrai chetahu chitakaaree ||

Forget this picture, and remember the Painter.

ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਹੈ ਅਵਝੇਰਾ ॥

चित्र बचित्र इहै अवझेरा ॥

Chitr bachitr ihai avajheraa ||

This wondrous painting is now the problem.

ਤਜਿ ਚਿਤ੍ਰੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਚਿਤੇਰਾ ॥੧੨॥

तजि चित्रै चितु राखि चितेरा ॥१२॥

Taji chitrai chitu raakhi chiteraa ||12||

Forget this picture and focus your consciousness on the Painter. ||12||

ਛਛਾ ਇਹੈ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਪਾਸਾ ॥

छछा इहै छत्रपति पासा ॥

Chhachhaa ihai chhatrpati paasaa ||

CHHACHHA: The Sovereign Lord of the Universe is here with you.

ਛਕਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਰਹਹੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਆਸਾ ॥

छकि कि न रहहु छाडि कि न आसा ॥

Chhaki ki na rahahu chhaadi ki na aasaa ||

Why are you so unhappy? Why don't you abandon your desires?

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਤਉ ਛਿਨ ਛਿਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥

रे मन मै तउ छिन छिन समझावा ॥

Re man mai tau chhin chhin samajhaavaa ||

O my mind, each and every moment I try to instruct you,

ਤਾਹਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਕਤ ਆਪੁ ਬਧਾਵਾ ॥੧੩॥

ताहि छाडि कत आपु बधावा ॥१३॥

Taahi chhaadi kat aapu badhaavaa ||13||

But you forsake Him, and entangle yourself with others. ||13||

ਜਜਾ ਜਉ ਤਨ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਰਾਵੈ ॥

जजा जउ तन जीवत जरावै ॥

Jajaa jau tan jeevat jaraavai ||

JAJJA: If someone burns his body while he is still alive,

ਜੋਬਨ ਜਾਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

जोबन जारि जुगति सो पावै ॥

Joban jaari jugati so paavai ||

And burns away the desires of his youth, then he finds the right way.

ਅਸ ਜਰਿ ਪਰ ਜਰਿ ਜਰਿ ਜਬ ਰਹੈ ॥

अस जरि पर जरि जरि जब रहै ॥

As jari par jari jari jab rahai ||

When he burns his desire for his own wealth, and that of others,

ਤਬ ਜਾਇ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਜਾਰਉ ਲਹੈ ॥੧੪॥

तब जाइ जोति उजारउ लहै ॥१४॥

Tab jaai joti ujaarau lahai ||14||

Then he finds the Divine Light. ||14||

ਝਝਾ ਉਰਝਿ ਸੁਰਝਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

झझा उरझि सुरझि नही जाना ॥

Jhajhaa urajhi surajhi nahee jaanaa ||

JHAJHA: You are entangled in the world, and you do not know how to get untangled.

ਰਹਿਓ ਝਝਕਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥

रहिओ झझकि नाही परवाना ॥

Rahio jhajhaki naahee paravaanaa ||

You hold back in fear, and are not approved by the Lord.

ਕਤ ਝਖਿ ਝਖਿ ਅਉਰਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥

कत झखि झखि अउरन समझावा ॥

Kat jhakhi jhakhi auran samajhaavaa ||

Why do you talk such nonsense, trying to convince others?

ਝਗਰੁ ਕੀਏ ਝਗਰਉ ਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੧੫॥

झगरु कीए झगरउ ही पावा ॥१५॥

Jhagaru keee jhagarau hee paavaa ||15||

Stirring up arguments, you shall only obtain more arguments. ||15||

ਞੰਞਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਜੁ ਘਟ ਰਹਿਓ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਹਾ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

ञंञा निकटि जु घट रहिओ दूरि कहा तजि जाइ ॥

(Ny)an(ny)aa nikati ju ghat rahio doori kahaa taji jaai ||

NYANYA: He dwells near you, deep within your heart; why do you leave Him and go far away?

ਜਾ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਜਗੁ ਢੂਢਿਅਉ ਨੇਰਉ ਪਾਇਅਉ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧੬॥

जा कारणि जगु ढूढिअउ नेरउ पाइअउ ताहि ॥१६॥

Jaa kaara(nn)i jagu dhoodhiau nerau paaiau taahi ||16||

I searched the whole world for Him, but I found Him near myself. ||16||

ਟਟਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਘਾਟ ਘਟ ਮਾਹੀ ॥

टटा बिकट घाट घट माही ॥

Tataa bikat ghaat ghat maahee ||

TATTA: It is such a difficult path, to find Him within your own heart.

ਖੋਲਿ ਕਪਾਟ ਮਹਲਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥

खोलि कपाट महलि कि न जाही ॥

Kholi kapaat mahali ki na jaahee ||

Open the doors within, and enter the Mansion of His Presence.

ਦੇਖਿ ਅਟਲ ਟਲਿ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ॥

देखि अटल टलि कतहि न जावा ॥

Dekhi atal tali katahi na jaavaa ||

Beholding the Immovable Lord, you shall not slip and go anywhere else.

ਰਹੈ ਲਪਟਿ ਘਟ ਪਰਚਉ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੧੭॥

रहै लपटि घट परचउ पावा ॥१७॥

Rahai lapati ghat parachau paavaa ||17||

You shall remain firmly attached to the Lord, and your heart will be happy. ||17||

ਠਠਾ ਇਹੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਠਗ ਨੀਰਾ ॥

ठठा इहै दूरि ठग नीरा ॥

Thathaa ihai doori thag neeraa ||

T'HAT'HA: Keep yourself far away from this mirage.

ਨੀਠਿ ਨੀਠਿ ਮਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਧੀਰਾ ॥

नीठि नीठि मनु कीआ धीरा ॥

Neethi neethi manu keeaa dheeraa ||

With great difficulty, I have calmed my mind.

ਜਿਨਿ ਠਗਿ ਠਗਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਵਾ ॥

जिनि ठगि ठगिआ सगल जगु खावा ॥

Jini thagi thagiaa sagal jagu khaavaa ||

That cheater, who cheated and devoured the whole world

ਸੋ ਠਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਮਨੁ ਆਵਾ ॥੧੮॥

सो ठगु ठगिआ ठउर मनु आवा ॥१८॥

So thagu thagiaa thaur manu aavaa ||18||

- I have cheated that cheater, and my mind is now at peace. ||18||

ਡਡਾ ਡਰ ਉਪਜੇ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਈ ॥

डडा डर उपजे डरु जाई ॥

Dadaa dar upaje daru jaaee ||

DADDA: When the Fear of God wells up, other fears depart.

ਤਾ ਡਰ ਮਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

ता डर महि डरु रहिआ समाई ॥

Taa dar mahi daru rahiaa samaaee ||

Other fears are absorbed into that Fear.

ਜਉ ਡਰ ਡਰੈ ਤ ਫਿਰਿ ਡਰੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

जउ डर डरै त फिरि डरु लागै ॥

Jau dar darai ta phiri daru laagai ||

When one rejects the Fear of God, then other fears cling to him.

ਨਿਡਰ ਹੂਆ ਡਰੁ ਉਰ ਹੋਇ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧੯॥

निडर हूआ डरु उर होइ भागै ॥१९॥

Nidar hooaa daru ur hoi bhaagai ||19||

But if he becomes fearless, the fears of his heart run away. ||19||

ਢਢਾ ਢਿਗ ਢੂਢਹਿ ਕਤ ਆਨਾ ॥

ढढा ढिग ढूढहि कत आना ॥

Dhadhaa dhig dhoodhahi kat aanaa ||

DHADHA: Why do you search in other directions?

ਢੂਢਤ ਹੀ ਢਹਿ ਗਏ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥

ढूढत ही ढहि गए पराना ॥

Dhoodhat hee dhahi gae paraanaa ||

Searching for Him like this, the breath of life runs out.

ਚੜਿ ਸੁਮੇਰਿ ਢੂਢਿ ਜਬ ਆਵਾ ॥

चड़ि सुमेरि ढूढि जब आवा ॥

Cha(rr)i sumeri dhoodhi jab aavaa ||

When I returned after climbing the mountain,

ਜਿਹ ਗੜੁ ਗੜਿਓ ਸੁ ਗੜ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੦॥

जिह गड़ु गड़िओ सु गड़ महि पावा ॥२०॥

Jih ga(rr)u ga(rr)io su ga(rr) mahi paavaa ||20||

I found Him in the fortress - the fortress which He Himself made. ||20||

ਣਾਣਾ ਰਣਿ ਰੂਤਉ ਨਰ ਨੇਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥

णाणा रणि रूतउ नर नेही करै ॥

(Nn)aa(nn)aa ra(nn)i rootau nar nehee karai ||

NANNA: The warrior who fights on the battle-field should keep up and press on.

ਨਾ ਨਿਵੈ ਨਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੰਚਰੈ ॥

ना निवै ना फुनि संचरै ॥

Naa nivai naa phuni sanccharai ||

He should not yield, and he should not retreat.

ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਗਣੈ ॥

धंनि जनमु ताही को गणै ॥

Dhanni janamu taahee ko ga(nn)ai ||

Blessed is the coming of one

ਮਾਰੈ ਏਕਹਿ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ਘਣੈ ॥੨੧॥

मारै एकहि तजि जाइ घणै ॥२१॥

Maarai ekahi taji jaai gha(nn)ai ||21||

Who conquers the one and renounces the many. ||21||

ਤਤਾ ਅਤਰ ਤਰਿਓ ਨਹ ਜਾਈ ॥

तता अतर तरिओ नह जाई ॥

Tataa atar tario nah jaaee ||

TATTA: The impassable world-ocean cannot be crossed over;

ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

तन त्रिभवण महि रहिओ समाई ॥

Tan tribhava(nn) mahi rahio samaaee ||

The body remains embroiled in the three worlds.

ਜਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਤਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਾ ॥

जउ त्रिभवण तन माहि समावा ॥

Jau tribhava(nn) tan maahi samaavaa ||

But when the Lord of the three worlds enters into the body,

ਤਉ ਤਤਹਿ ਤਤ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੨॥

तउ ततहि तत मिलिआ सचु पावा ॥२२॥

Tau tatahi tat miliaa sachu paavaa ||22||

Then one's essence merges with the essence of reality, and the True Lord is attained. ||22||

ਥਥਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

थथा अथाह थाह नही पावा ॥

Thathaa athaah thaah nahee paavaa ||

T'HAT'HA: He is Unfathomable; His depths cannot be fathomed.

ਓਹੁ ਅਥਾਹ ਇਹੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਵਾ ॥

ओहु अथाह इहु थिरु न रहावा ॥

Ohu athaah ihu thiru na rahaavaa ||

He is Unfathomable; this body is impermanent, and unstable.

ਥੋੜੈ ਥਲਿ ਥਾਨਕ ਆਰੰਭੈ ॥

थोड़ै थलि थानक आर्मभै ॥

Tho(rr)ai thali thaanak aarambbhai ||

The mortal builds his dwelling upon this tiny space;

ਬਿਨੁ ਹੀ ਥਾਭਹ ਮੰਦਿਰੁ ਥੰਭੈ ॥੨੩॥

बिनु ही थाभह मंदिरु थ्मभै ॥२३॥

Binu hee thaabhah manddiru thambbhai ||23||

Without any pillars, he wishes to support a mansion. ||23||

ਦਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਜੁ ਬਿਨਸਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

ददा देखि जु बिनसनहारा ॥

Dadaa dekhi ju binasanahaaraa ||

DADDA: Whatever is seen shall perish.

ਜਸ ਅਦੇਖਿ ਤਸ ਰਾਖਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥

जस अदेखि तस राखि बिचारा ॥

Jas adekhi tas raakhi bichaaraa ||

Contemplate the One who is unseen.

ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਕੁੰਚੀ ਜਬ ਦੀਜੈ ॥

दसवै दुआरि कुंची जब दीजै ॥

Dasavai duaari kuncchee jab deejai ||

When the key is inserted in the Tenth Gate,

ਤਉ ਦਇਆਲ ਕੋ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੨੪॥

तउ दइआल को दरसनु कीजै ॥२४॥

Tau daiaal ko darasanu keejai ||24||

Then the Blessed Vision of the Merciful Lord's Darshan is seen. ||24||

ਧਧਾ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥

धधा अरधहि उरध निबेरा ॥

Dhadhaa aradhahi uradh niberaa ||

DHADHA: When one ascends from the lower realms of the earth to the higher realms of the heavens, then everything is resolved.

ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧਹ ਮੰਝਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥

अरधहि उरधह मंझि बसेरा ॥

Aradhahi uradhah manjjhi baseraa ||

The Lord dwells in both the lower and higher worlds.

ਅਰਧਹ ਛਾਡਿ ਉਰਧ ਜਉ ਆਵਾ ॥

अरधह छाडि उरध जउ आवा ॥

Aradhah chhaadi uradh jau aavaa ||

Leaving the earth, the soul ascends to the heavens;

ਤਉ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੫॥

तउ अरधहि उरध मिलिआ सुख पावा ॥२५॥

Tau aradhahi uradh miliaa sukh paavaa ||25||

Then, the lower and higher join together, and peace is obtained. ||25||

ਨੰਨਾ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਾਈ ॥

नंना निसि दिनु निरखत जाई ॥

Nannaa nisi dinu nirakhat jaaee ||

NANNA: The days and nights go by; I am looking for the Lord.

ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਰਹੇ ਰਤਵਾਈ ॥

निरखत नैन रहे रतवाई ॥

Nirakhat nain rahe ratavaaee ||

Looking for Him, my eyes have become blood-shot.

ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਬ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

निरखत निरखत जब जाइ पावा ॥

Nirakhat nirakhat jab jaai paavaa ||

After looking and looking,when He is finally found,

ਤਬ ਲੇ ਨਿਰਖਹਿ ਨਿਰਖ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥੨੬॥

तब ले निरखहि निरख मिलावा ॥२६॥

Tab le nirakhahi nirakh milaavaa ||26||

Then the one who was looking merges into the One who was looked for. ||26||

ਪਪਾ ਅਪਰ ਪਾਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

पपा अपर पारु नही पावा ॥

Papaa apar paaru nahee paavaa ||

PAPPA: He is limitless; His limits cannot be found.

ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਚਉ ਲਾਵਾ ॥

परम जोति सिउ परचउ लावा ॥

Param joti siu parachau laavaa ||

I have attuned myself to the Supreme Light.

ਪਾਂਚਉ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹ ਕਰਈ ॥

पांचउ इंद्री निग्रह करई ॥

Paanchau ianddree nigrh karaee ||

One who controls his five senses

ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਨਿਰਵਰਈ ॥੨੭॥

पापु पुंनु दोऊ निरवरई ॥२७॥

Paapu punnu dou niravaraee ||27||

Rises above both sin and virtue. ||27||

ਫਫਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਫੂਲਹ ਫਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

फफा बिनु फूलह फलु होई ॥

Phaphaa binu phoolah phalu hoee ||

FAFFA: Even without the flower, the fruit is produced.

ਤਾ ਫਲ ਫੰਕ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥

ता फल फंक लखै जउ कोई ॥

Taa phal phankk lakhai jau koee ||

One who looks at a slice of that fruit

ਦੂਣਿ ਨ ਪਰਈ ਫੰਕ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥

दूणि न परई फंक बिचारै ॥

Doo(nn)i na paraee phankk bichaarai ||

And reflects on it, will not be consigned to reincarnation.

ਤਾ ਫਲ ਫੰਕ ਸਭੈ ਤਨ ਫਾਰੈ ॥੨੮॥

ता फल फंक सभै तन फारै ॥२८॥

Taa phal phankk sabhai tan phaarai ||28||

A slice of that fruit slices all bodies. ||28||

ਬਬਾ ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥

बबा बिंदहि बिंद मिलावा ॥

Babaa binddahi bindd milaavaa ||

BABBA: When one drop blends with another drop,

ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦਿ ਨ ਬਿਛੁਰਨ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

बिंदहि बिंदि न बिछुरन पावा ॥

Binddahi binddi na bichhuran paavaa ||

Then these drops cannot be separated again.

ਬੰਦਉ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਗਹੈ ॥

बंदउ होइ बंदगी गहै ॥

Banddau hoi banddagee gahai ||

Become the Lord's slave, and hold tight to His meditation.

ਬੰਦਕ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਧ ਸੁਧਿ ਲਹੈ ॥੨੯॥

बंदक होइ बंध सुधि लहै ॥२९॥

Banddak hoi banddh sudhi lahai ||29||

If you turn your thoughts to the Lord, the Lord will take care of you like a relative. ||29||

ਭਭਾ ਭੇਦਹਿ ਭੇਦ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥

भभा भेदहि भेद मिलावा ॥

Bhabhaa bhedahi bhed milaavaa ||

BHABHA: When doubt is pierced, union is achieved.

ਅਬ ਭਉ ਭਾਨਿ ਭਰੋਸਉ ਆਵਾ ॥

अब भउ भानि भरोसउ आवा ॥

Ab bhau bhaani bharosau aavaa ||

I have shattered my fear, and now I have come to have faith.

ਜੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

जो बाहरि सो भीतरि जानिआ ॥

Jo baahari so bheetari jaaniaa ||

I thought that He was outside of me, but now I know that He is within me.

ਭਇਆ ਭੇਦੁ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਆ ॥੩੦॥

भइआ भेदु भूपति पहिचानिआ ॥३०॥

Bhaiaa bhedu bhoopati pahichaaniaa ||30||

When I came to understand this mystery, then I recognized the Lord. ||30||

ਮਮਾ ਮੂਲ ਗਹਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥

ममा मूल गहिआ मनु मानै ॥

Mamaa mool gahiaa manu maanai ||

MAMMA: Clinging to the source, the mind is satisfied.

ਮਰਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

मरमी होइ सु मन कउ जानै ॥

Maramee hoi su man kau jaanai ||

One who knows this mystery understands his own mind.

ਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਮਨ ਮਿਲਤਾ ਬਿਲਮਾਵੈ ॥

मत कोई मन मिलता बिलमावै ॥

Mat koee man milataa bilamaavai ||

Let no one delay in uniting his mind.

ਮਗਨ ਭਇਆ ਤੇ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩੧॥

मगन भइआ ते सो सचु पावै ॥३१॥

Magan bhaiaa te so sachu paavai ||31||

Those who obtain the True Lord are immersed in delight. ||31||

ਮਮਾ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਾਜੁ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਸਾਧੇ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

ममा मन सिउ काजु है मन साधे सिधि होइ ॥

Mamaa man siu kaaju hai man saadhe sidhi hoi ||

MAMMA: The mortal's business is with his own mind; one who disciplines his mind attains perfection.

ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਮਨ ਸਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੨॥

मन ही मन सिउ कहै कबीरा मन सा मिलिआ न कोइ ॥३२॥

Man hee man siu kahai kabeeraa man saa miliaa na koi ||32||

Only the mind can deal with the mind; says Kabeer, I have not met anything like the mind. ||32||

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਕਤੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਉ ॥

इहु मनु सकती इहु मनु सीउ ॥

Ihu manu sakatee ihu manu seeu ||

This mind is Shakti; this mind is Shiva.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਚ ਤਤ ਕੋ ਜੀਉ ॥

इहु मनु पंच तत को जीउ ॥

Ihu manu pancch tat ko jeeu ||

This mind is the life of the five elements.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲੇ ਜਉ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਰਹੈ ॥

इहु मनु ले जउ उनमनि रहै ॥

Ihu manu le jau unamani rahai ||

When this mind is channeled, and guided to enlightenment,

ਤਉ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਕੀ ਬਾਤੈ ਕਹੈ ॥੩੩॥

तउ तीनि लोक की बातै कहै ॥३३॥

Tau teeni lok kee baatai kahai ||33||

It can describe the secrets of the three worlds. ||33||

ਯਯਾ ਜਉ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਤਉ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਸਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਗਾਉ ॥

यया जउ जानहि तउ दुरमति हनि करि बसि काइआ गाउ ॥

Yayaa jau jaanahi tau duramati hani kari basi kaaiaa gaau ||

YAYYA: If you know anything, then destroy your evil-mindedness, and subjugate the body-village.

ਰਣਿ ਰੂਤਉ ਭਾਜੈ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਰਉ ਥਾਰਉ ਨਾਉ ॥੩੪॥

रणि रूतउ भाजै नही सूरउ थारउ नाउ ॥३४॥

Ra(nn)i rootau bhaajai nahee soorau thaarau naau ||34||

When you are engaged in the battle, don't run away; then, you shall be known as a spiritual hero. ||34||

ਰਾਰਾ ਰਸੁ ਨਿਰਸ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

रारा रसु निरस करि जानिआ ॥

Raaraa rasu niras kari jaaniaa ||

RARRA: I have found tastes to be tasteless.

ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਸ ਸੁ ਰਸੁ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਿਆ ॥

होइ निरस सु रसु पहिचानिआ ॥

Hoi niras su rasu pahichaaniaa ||

Becoming tasteless, I have realized that taste.

ਇਹ ਰਸ ਛਾਡੇ ਉਹ ਰਸੁ ਆਵਾ ॥

इह रस छाडे उह रसु आवा ॥

Ih ras chhaade uh rasu aavaa ||

Abandoning these tastes, I have found that taste.

ਉਹ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਇਹ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵਾ ॥੩੫॥

उह रसु पीआ इह रसु नही भावा ॥३५॥

Uh rasu peeaa ih rasu nahee bhaavaa ||35||

Drinking in that taste, this taste is no longer pleasing. ||35||

ਲਲਾ ਐਸੇ ਲਿਵ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

लला ऐसे लिव मनु लावै ॥

Lalaa aise liv manu laavai ||

LALLA: Embrace such love for the Lord in your mind,

ਅਨਤ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

अनत न जाइ परम सचु पावै ॥

Anat na jaai param sachu paavai ||

That you shall not have to go to any other; you shall attain the supreme truth.

ਅਰੁ ਜਉ ਤਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

अरु जउ तहा प्रेम लिव लावै ॥

Aru jau tahaa prem liv laavai ||

And if you embrace love and affection for Him there,

ਤਉ ਅਲਹ ਲਹੈ ਲਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩੬॥

तउ अलह लहै लहि चरन समावै ॥३६॥

Tau alah lahai lahi charan samaavai ||36||

Then you shall obtain the Lord; obtaining Him, you shall be absorbed in His Feet. ||36||

ਵਵਾ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਬਿਸਨ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਰਿ ॥

ववा बार बार बिसन सम्हारि ॥

Vavaa baar baar bisan samhaari ||

WAWA: Time and time again, dwell upon the Lord.

ਬਿਸਨ ਸੰਮ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਾਰਿ ॥

बिसन सम्हारि न आवै हारि ॥

Bisan sammhaari na aavai haari ||

Dwelling upon the Lord, defeat shall not come to you.

ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜੇ ਬਿਸਨਤਨਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

बलि बलि जे बिसनतना जसु गावै ॥

Bali bali je bisanatanaa jasu gaavai ||

I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to those, who sing the praises of the Saints, the sons of the Lord.

ਵਿਸਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩੭॥

विसन मिले सभ ही सचु पावै ॥३७॥

Visan mile sabh hee sachu paavai ||37||

Meeting the Lord, total Truth is obtained. ||37||

ਵਾਵਾ ਵਾਹੀ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਵਾ ਜਾਨੇ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

वावा वाही जानीऐ वा जाने इहु होइ ॥

Vaavaa vaahee jaaneeai vaa jaane ihu hoi ||

WAWA: Know Him. By knowing Him, this mortal becomes Him.

ਇਹੁ ਅਰੁ ਓਹੁ ਜਬ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਬ ਮਿਲਤ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੮॥

इहु अरु ओहु जब मिलै तब मिलत न जानै कोइ ॥३८॥

Ihu aru ohu jab milai tab milat na jaanai koi ||38||

When this soul and that Lord are blended, then, having been blended, they cannot be known separately. ||38||

ਸਸਾ ਸੋ ਨੀਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੋਧਹੁ ॥

ससा सो नीका करि सोधहु ॥

Sasaa so neekaa kari sodhahu ||

SASSA: Discipline your mind with sublime perfection.

ਘਟ ਪਰਚਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਨਿਰੋਧਹੁ ॥

घट परचा की बात निरोधहु ॥

Ghat parachaa kee baat nirodhahu ||

Refrain from that talk which attracts the heart.

ਘਟ ਪਰਚੈ ਜਉ ਉਪਜੈ ਭਾਉ ॥

घट परचै जउ उपजै भाउ ॥

Ghat parachai jau upajai bhaau ||

The heart is attracted, when love wells up.

ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਰਾਉ ॥੩੯॥

पूरि रहिआ तह त्रिभवण राउ ॥३९॥

Poori rahiaa tah tribhava(nn) raau ||39||

The King of the three worlds is perfectly pervading and permeating there. ||39||

ਖਖਾ ਖੋਜਿ ਪਰੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥

खखा खोजि परै जउ कोई ॥

Khakhaa khoji parai jau koee ||

KHAKHA: Anyone who seeks Him,

ਜੋ ਖੋਜੈ ਸੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

जो खोजै सो बहुरि न होई ॥

Jo khojai so bahuri na hoee ||

And by seeking Him, finds Him, shall not be born again.

ਖੋਜ ਬੂਝਿ ਜਉ ਕਰੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

खोज बूझि जउ करै बीचारा ॥

Khoj boojhi jau karai beechaaraa ||

When someone seeks Him, and comes to understand and contemplate Him,

ਤਉ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਤ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੪੦॥

तउ भवजल तरत न लावै बारा ॥४०॥

Tau bhavajal tarat na laavai baaraa ||40||

Then he crosses over the terrifying world-ocean in an instant. ||40||

ਸਸਾ ਸੋ ਸਹ ਸੇਜ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥

ससा सो सह सेज सवारै ॥

Sasaa so sah sej savaarai ||

SASSA: The bed of the soul-bride is adorned by her Husband Lord;

ਸੋਈ ਸਹੀ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥

सोई सही संदेह निवारै ॥

Soee sahee sanddeh nivaarai ||

Her skepticism is dispelled.

ਅਲਪ ਸੁਖ ਛਾਡਿ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਾ ॥

अलप सुख छाडि परम सुख पावा ॥

Alap sukh chhaadi param sukh paavaa ||

Renouncing the shallow pleasures of the world, she obtains the supreme delight.

ਤਬ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰੀਅ ਓੁਹੁ ਕੰਤੁ ਕਹਾਵਾ ॥੪੧॥

तब इह त्रीअ ओहु कंतु कहावा ॥४१॥

Tab ih treea ouhu kanttu kahaavaa ||41||

Then, she is the soul-bride; He is called her Husband Lord. ||41||

ਹਾਹਾ ਹੋਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

हाहा होत होइ नही जाना ॥

Haahaa hot hoi nahee jaanaa ||

HAHA: He exists, but He is not known to exist.

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਹੋਇ ਤਬਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਾ ॥

जब ही होइ तबहि मनु माना ॥

Jab hee hoi tabahi manu maanaa ||

When He is known to exist, then the mind is pleased and appeased.

ਹੈ ਤਉ ਸਹੀ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥

है तउ सही लखै जउ कोई ॥

Hai tau sahee lakhai jau koee ||

Of course the Lord exists, if one could only understand Him.

ਤਬ ਓਹੀ ਉਹੁ ਏਹੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੪੨॥

तब ओही उहु एहु न होई ॥४२॥

Tab ohee uhu ehu na hoee ||42||

Then, He alone exists, and not this mortal being. ||42||

ਲਿੰਉ ਲਿੰਉ ਕਰਤ ਫਿਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਲੋਗੁ ॥

लिंउ लिंउ करत फिरै सभु लोगु ॥

Linnu linnu karat phirai sabhu logu ||

Everyone goes around saying, "I'll take this, and I'll take that."

ਤਾ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਗੁ ॥

ता कारणि बिआपै बहु सोगु ॥

Taa kaara(nn)i biaapai bahu sogu ||

Because of that, they suffer in terrible pain.

ਲਖਿਮੀ ਬਰ ਸਿਉ ਜਉ ਲਿਉ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

लखिमी बर सिउ जउ लिउ लावै ॥

Lakhimee bar siu jau liu laavai ||

When someone comes to love the Lord of Lakhshmi,

ਸੋਗੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪੩॥

सोगु मिटै सभ ही सुख पावै ॥४३॥

Sogu mitai sabh hee sukh paavai ||43||

His sorrow departs, and he obtains total peace. ||43||

ਖਖਾ ਖਿਰਤ ਖਪਤ ਗਏ ਕੇਤੇ ॥

खखा खिरत खपत गए केते ॥

Khakhaa khirat khapat gae kete ||

KHAKHA: Many have wasted their lives, and then perished.

ਖਿਰਤ ਖਪਤ ਅਜਹੂੰ ਨਹ ਚੇਤੇ ॥

खिरत खपत अजहूं नह चेते ॥

Khirat khapat ajahoonn nah chete ||

Wasting away, they do not remember the Lord, even now.

ਅਬ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਜਉ ਮਨਾ ਰਹੈ ॥

अब जगु जानि जउ मना रहै ॥

Ab jagu jaani jau manaa rahai ||

But if someone, even now, comes to know the transitory nature of the world and restrain his mind,

ਜਹ ਕਾ ਬਿਛੁਰਾ ਤਹ ਥਿਰੁ ਲਹੈ ॥੪੪॥

जह का बिछुरा तह थिरु लहै ॥४४॥

Jah kaa bichhuraa tah thiru lahai ||44||

He shall find his permanent home, from which he was separated. ||44||

ਬਾਵਨ ਅਖਰ ਜੋਰੇ ਆਨਿ ॥

बावन अखर जोरे आनि ॥

Baavan akhar jore aani ||

The fifty-two letters have been joined together.

ਸਕਿਆ ਨ ਅਖਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਨਿ ॥

सकिआ न अखरु एकु पछानि ॥

Sakiaa na akharu eku pachhaani ||

But people cannot recognize the One Word of God.

ਸਤ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਕਹੈ ॥

सत का सबदु कबीरा कहै ॥

Sat kaa sabadu kabeeraa kahai ||

Kabeer speaks the Shabad, the Word of Truth.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਨਭੈ ਰਹੈ ॥

पंडित होइ सु अनभै रहै ॥

Panddit hoi su anabhai rahai ||

One who is a Pandit, a religious scholar, must remain fearless.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਗਹ ਕਉ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥

पंडित लोगह कउ बिउहार ॥

Panddit logah kau biuhaar ||

It is the business of the scholarly person to join letters.

ਗਿਆਨਵੰਤ ਕਉ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥

गिआनवंत कउ ततु बीचार ॥

Giaanavantt kau tatu beechaar ||

The spiritual person contemplates the essence of reality.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਜੀਅ ਜੈਸੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੋਈ ॥

जा कै जीअ जैसी बुधि होई ॥

Jaa kai jeea jaisee budhi hoee ||

According to the wisdom within the mind,

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾਨੈਗਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੪੫॥

कहि कबीर जानैगा सोई ॥४५॥

Kahi kabeer jaanaigaa soee ||45||

Says Kabeer, so does one come to understand. ||45||

ਕੂਪੁ ਭਰਿਓ ਜੈਸੇ ਦਾਦਿਰਾ ਕਛੁ ਦੇਸੁ ਬਿਦੇਸੁ ਨ ਬੂਝ ॥

कूपु भरिओ जैसे दादिरा कछु देसु बिदेसु न बूझ ॥

Koopu bhario jaise daadiraa kachhu desu bidesu na boojh ||

The frog in the deep well knows nothing of its own country or other lands;

ਐਸੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਮੋਹਿਆ ਕਛੁ ਆਰਾ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝ ॥੧॥

ऐसे मेरा मनु बिखिआ बिमोहिआ कछु आरा पारु न सूझ ॥१॥

Aise meraa manu bikhiaa bimohiaa kachhu aaraa paaru na soojh ||1||

Just so, my mind, infatuated with corruption, understands nothing about this world or the next. ||1||

ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਕੇ ਨਾਇਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਛਿਨੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਜੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सगल भवन के नाइका इकु छिनु दरसु दिखाइ जी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sagal bhavan ke naaikaa iku chhinu darasu dikhaai jee ||1|| rahaau ||

O Lord of all worlds: reveal to me, even for an instant, the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮਲਿਨ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਮਾਧਵਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਲਖੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

मलिन भई मति माधवा तेरी गति लखी न जाइ ॥

Malin bhaee mati maadhavaa teree gati lakhee na jaai ||

My intellect is polluted; I cannot understand Your state, O Lord.

ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਚੂਕਈ ਮੈ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥੨॥

करहु क्रिपा भ्रमु चूकई मै सुमति देहु समझाइ ॥२॥

Karahu kripaa bhrmu chookaee mai sumati dehu samajhaai ||2||

Take pity on me, dispel my doubts, and teach me true wisdom. ||2||

ਜੋਗੀਸਰ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਤੁਅ ਗੁਣ ਕਥਨੁ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

जोगीसर पावहि नही तुअ गुण कथनु अपार ॥

Jogeesar paavahi nahee tua gu(nn) kathanu apaar ||

Even the great Yogis cannot describe Your Glorious Virtues; they are beyond words.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਕਾਰਣੈ ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਚਮਾਰ ॥੩॥੧॥

प्रेम भगति कै कारणै कहु रविदास चमार ॥३॥१॥
