ਮਨੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਈਆ ॥੩॥

मनु बुधि अरपि धरउ गुर आगै गुर परसादी मै अकथु कथईआ ॥३॥

Manu buđhi ârapi đharaū gur âagai gur parasaađee mai âkaŧhu kaŧhaëeâa ||3||

I dedicate my mind and intellect, and place them in offering before my Guru; by Guru's Grace, I speak the Unspoken. ||3||


ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਤਿਖਈਆ ॥

मनमुख माइआ मोहि विआपे इहु मनु त्रिसना जलत तिखईआ ॥

Manamukh maaīâa mohi viâape īhu manu ŧrisanaa jalaŧ ŧikhaëeâa ||

The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in attachment to Maya; their minds are thirsty, burning with desire.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਈਆ ॥੪॥

गुरमति नामु अम्रित जलु पाइआ अगनि बुझी गुर सबदि बुझईआ ॥४॥

Guramaŧi naamu âmmmriŧ jalu paaīâa âgani bujhee gur sabađi bujhaëeâa ||4||

Following the Guru's Teachings, I have obtained the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, and the fire has been put out. The Word of the Guru's Shabad has put it out. ||4||


ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੂਰ ਵਜਈਆ ॥

इहु मनु नाचै सतिगुर आगै अनहद सबद धुनि तूर वजईआ ॥

Īhu manu naachai saŧigur âagai ânahađ sabađ đhuni ŧoor vajaëeâa ||

This mind dances before the True Guru. The unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds, vibrating the celestial melody.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਚਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰਈਆ ॥੫॥

हरि हरि उसतति करै दिनु राती रखि रखि चरण हरि ताल पूरईआ ॥५॥

Hari hari ūsaŧaŧi karai đinu raaŧee rakhi rakhi charañ hari ŧaal pooraëeâa ||5||

I praise the Lord, day and night, moving my feet to the beat of the drum. ||5||


ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਾਲ ਰਸਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵਈਆ ॥

हरि कै रंगि रता मनु गावै रसि रसाल रसि सबदु रवईआ ॥

Hari kai ranggi raŧaa manu gaavai rasi rasaal rasi sabađu ravaëeâa ||

Imbued with the Lord's Love, my mind sings His Praise, joyfully chanting the Shabad, the source of nectar and bliss.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਧਾਰ ਚੁਐ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੬॥

निज घरि धार चुऐ अति निरमल जिनि पीआ तिन ही सुखु लहीआ ॥६॥

Nij ghari đhaar chuâi âŧi niramal jini peeâa ŧin hee sukhu laheeâa ||6||

The stream of immaculate purity flows through the home of the self within; one who drinks it in, finds peace. ||6||


ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਕ ਬਾਲੂ ਘਰ ਉਸਰਈਆ ॥

मनहठि करम करै अभिमानी जिउ बालक बालू घर उसरईआ ॥

Manahathi karam karai âbhimaanee jiū baalak baaloo ghar ūsaraëeâa ||

The stubborn-minded, egotistical, proud-minded person performs rituals, but these are like sand castles built by children.

ਆਵੈ ਲਹਰਿ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੀ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਢਹਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥

आवै लहरि समुंद सागर की खिन महि भिंन भिंन ढहि पईआ ॥७॥

Âavai lahari samunđđ saagar kee khin mahi bhinn bhinn dhahi paëeâa ||7||

When the waves of the ocean come in, they crumble and dissolve in an instant. ||7||


ਹਰਿ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਖੇਲਈਆ ॥

हरि सरु सागरु हरि है आपे इहु जगु है सभु खेलु खेलईआ ॥

Hari saru saagaru hari hai âape īhu jagu hai sabhu khelu khelaëeâa ||

The Lord is the pool, and the Lord Himself is the ocean; this world is all a play which He has staged.

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਤਰੰਗ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਰਮਈਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥

जिउ जल तरंग जलु जलहि समावहि नानक आपे आपि रमईआ ॥८॥३॥६॥

Jiū jal ŧarangg jalu jalahi samaavahi naanak âape âapi ramaëeâa ||8||3||6||

As the waves of water merge into the water again, O Nanak, so does He merge into Himself. ||8||3||6||

Bilaaval, Fourth Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਚੈ ਮਨਿ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਤਨਿ ਭਸਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥

सतिगुरु परचै मनि मुंद्रा पाई गुर का सबदु तनि भसम द्रिड़ईआ ॥

Saŧiguru parachai mani munđđraa paaëe gur kaa sabađu ŧani bhasam đriɍaëeâa ||

My mind wears the ear-rings of the True Guru's acquaintance; I apply the ashes of the Word of the Guru's Shabad to my body.

ਅਮਰ ਪਿੰਡ ਭਏ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈਆ ॥੧॥

अमर पिंड भए साधू संगि जनम मरण दोऊ मिटि गईआ ॥१॥

Âmar pindd bhaē saađhoo sanggi janam marañ đoǖ miti gaëeâa ||1||

By body has become immortal, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Both birth and death have come to an end for me. ||1||


ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀਆ ॥

मेरे मन साधसंगति मिलि रहीआ ॥

Mere man saađhasanggaŧi mili raheeâa ||

O my mind, remain united with the Saadh Sangat.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਧਸੂਦਨ ਮਾਧਉ ਮੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਪਖਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

क्रिपा करहु मधसूदन माधउ मै खिनु खिनु साधू चरण पखईआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kripaa karahu mađhasoođan maađhaū mai khinu khinu saađhoo charañ pakhaëeâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

Be merciful to me, O Lord; each and every instant, let me wash the Feet of the Holy. ||1|| Pause ||


ਤਜੈ ਗਿਰਸਤੁ ਭਇਆ ਬਨ ਵਾਸੀ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਟਿਕੈ ਨ ਟਿਕਈਆ ॥

तजै गिरसतु भइआ बन वासी इकु खिनु मनूआ टिकै न टिकईआ ॥

Ŧajai girasaŧu bhaīâa ban vaasee īku khinu manooâa tikai na tikaëeâa ||

Forsaking family life, he wanders in the forest, but his mind does not remain at rest, even for an instant.

ਧਾਵਤੁ ਧਾਇ ਤਦੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਵਈਆ ॥੨॥

धावतु धाइ तदे घरि आवै हरि हरि साधू सरणि पवईआ ॥२॥

Đhaavaŧu đhaaī ŧađe ghari âavai hari hari saađhoo sarañi pavaëeâa ||2||

The wandering mind returns home, only when it seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord's Holy people. ||2||


ਧੀਆ ਪੂਤ ਛੋਡਿ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਮਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਰਈਆ ॥

धीआ पूत छोडि संनिआसी आसा आस मनि बहुतु करईआ ॥

Đheeâa pooŧ chhodi sanniâasee âasaa âas mani bahuŧu karaëeâa ||

The Sannyaasi renounces his daughters and sons, but his mind still conjures up all sorts of hopes and desires.

ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਕਰੈ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੩॥

आसा आस करै नही बूझै गुर कै सबदि निरास सुखु लहीआ ॥३॥

Âasaa âas karai nahee boojhai gur kai sabađi niraas sukhu laheeâa ||3||

With these hopes and desires, he still does not understand, that only through the Word of the Guru's Shabad does one become free of desires, and find peace. ||3||


ਉਪਜੀ ਤਰਕ ਦਿਗੰਬਰੁ ਹੋਆ ਮਨੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਚਲਿ ਚਲਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਕਰਈਆ ॥

उपजी तरक दिग्मबरु होआ मनु दह दिस चलि चलि गवनु करईआ ॥

Ūpajee ŧarak đigambbaru hoâa manu đah đis chali chali gavanu karaëeâa ||

When detachment from the world wells up within, he become a naked hermit, but still, his mind roams, wanders and rambles in the ten directions.

ਪ੍ਰਭਵਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆ ਘਰੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੪॥

प्रभवनु करै बूझै नही त्रिसना मिलि संगि साध दइआ घरु लहीआ ॥४॥

Prbhavanu karai boojhai nahee ŧrisanaa mili sanggi saađh đaīâa gharu laheeâa ||4||

He wanders around, but his desires are not satisfied; joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he finds the house of kindness and compassion. ||4||


ਆਸਣ ਸਿਧ ਸਿਖਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਚੇਟਕ ਚੇਟਕਈਆ ॥

आसण सिध सिखहि बहुतेरे मनि मागहि रिधि सिधि चेटक चेटकईआ ॥

Âasañ siđh sikhahi bahuŧere mani maagahi riđhi siđhi chetak chetakaëeâa ||

The Siddhas learn many Yogis postures, but their minds still yearn for riches, miraculous powers and energy.

ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੫॥

त्रिपति संतोखु मनि सांति न आवै मिलि साधू त्रिपति हरि नामि सिधि पईआ ॥५॥

Ŧripaŧi sanŧŧokhu mani saanŧi na âavai mili saađhoo ŧripaŧi hari naami siđhi paëeâa ||5||

Satisfaction, contentment and tranquility do not come to their minds; but meeting the Holy Saints, they are satisfied, and through the Name of the Lord, spiritual perfection is attained. ||5||


ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਸਭਿ ਵਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਈਆ ॥

अंडज जेरज सेतज उतभुज सभि वरन रूप जीअ जंत उपईआ ॥

Ânddaj jeraj seŧaj ūŧabhuj sabhi varan roop jeeâ janŧŧ ūpaëeâa ||

Life is born from the egg, from the womb, from sweat and from the earth; God created the beings and creatures of all colors and forms.

ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੈ ਸੋ ਉਬਰੈ ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਸੂਦੁ ਵੈਸੁ ਚੰਡਾਲੁ ਚੰਡਈਆ ॥੬॥

साधू सरणि परै सो उबरै खत्री ब्राहमणु सूदु वैसु चंडालु चंडईआ ॥६॥

Saađhoo sarañi parai so ūbarai khaŧree braahamañu soođu vaisu chanddaalu chanddaëeâa ||6||

One who seeks the Sanctuary of the Holy is saved, whether he is a Kshatriya, a Brahmin, a Soodra, a Vaisya or the most untouchable of the untouchables. ||6||


ਨਾਮਾ ਜੈਦੇਉ ਕੰਬੀਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨੁ ਅਉਜਾਤਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸੁ ਚਮਿਆਰੁ ਚਮਈਆ ॥

नामा जैदेउ क्मबीरु त्रिलोचनु अउजाति रविदासु चमिआरु चमईआ ॥

Naamaa jaiđeū kambbeeru ŧrilochanu âūjaaŧi raviđaasu chamiâaru chamaëeâa ||

Naam Dayv, Jai Dayv, Kabeer, Trilochan and Ravi Daas the low-caste leather-worker,

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨਾ ਜਟੁ ਸੈਣੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਈਆ ॥੭॥

जो जो मिलै साधू जन संगति धनु धंना जटु सैणु मिलिआ हरि दईआ ॥७॥

Jo jo milai saađhoo jan sanggaŧi đhanu đhannaa jatu saiñu miliâa hari đaëeâa ||7||

Blessed Dhanna and Sain; all those who joined the humble Saadh Sangat, met the Merciful Lord. ||7||


ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਈਆ ॥

संत जना की हरि पैज रखाई भगति वछलु अंगीकारु करईआ ॥

Sanŧŧ janaa kee hari paij rakhaaëe bhagaŧi vachhalu ânggeekaaru karaëeâa ||

The Lord protects the honor of His humble servants; He is the Lover of His devotees - He makes them His own.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਖਈਆ ॥੮॥੪॥੭॥

नानक सरणि परे जगजीवन हरि हरि किरपा धारि रखईआ ॥८॥४॥७॥

Naanak sarañi pare jagajeevan hari hari kirapaa đhaari rakhaëeâa ||8||4||7||

Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Life of the world, who has showered His Mercy upon him, and saved him. ||8|| ||4||7||


ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Bilaaval, Fourth Mehl:

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਉਠੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਮਨਿ ਤੀਰ ਲਗਈਆ ॥

अंतरि पिआस उठी प्रभ केरी सुणि गुर बचन मनि तीर लगईआ ॥

Ânŧŧari piâas ūthee prbh keree suñi gur bachan mani ŧeer lagaëeâa ||

The thirst for God has welled up deep within me; hearing the Word of the Guru's Teachings, my mind is pierced by His arrow.

ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਈਆ ॥੧॥

मन की बिरथा मन ही जाणै अवरु कि जाणै को पीर परईआ ॥१॥

Man kee biraŧhaa man hee jaañai âvaru ki jaañai ko peer paraëeâa ||1||

The pain of my mind is known only to my own mind; who can know the pain of another? ||1||


ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਈਆ ॥

राम गुरि मोहनि मोहि मनु लईआ ॥

Raam guri mohani mohi manu laëeâa ||

The Lord, the Guru, the Enticer, has enticed my mind.

ਹਉ ਆਕਲ ਬਿਕਲ ਭਈ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਹਉ ਲੋਟ ਪੋਟ ਹੋਇ ਪਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हउ आकल बिकल भई गुर देखे हउ लोट पोट होइ पईआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Haū âakal bikal bhaëe gur đekhe haū lot pot hoī paëeâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

I am stunned and amazed, gazing upon my Guru; I have entered the realm of wonder and bliss. ||1|| Pause ||


ਹਉ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਫਿਰਉ ਸਭਿ ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਖਨ ਕੋ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਚਈਆ ॥

हउ निरखत फिरउ सभि देस दिसंतर मै प्रभ देखन को बहुतु मनि चईआ ॥

Haū nirakhaŧ phiraū sabhi đes đisanŧŧar mai prbh đekhan ko bahuŧu mani chaëeâa ||

I wander around, exploring all lands and foreign countries; within my mind, I have such a great longing to see my God.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਦੇਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਿਖਈਆ ॥੨॥

मनु तनु काटि देउ गुर आगै जिनि हरि प्रभ मारगु पंथु दिखईआ ॥२॥

Manu ŧanu kaati đeū gur âagai jini hari prbh maaragu panŧŧhu đikhaëeâa ||2||

I sacrifice my mind and body to the Guru, who has shown me the Way, the Path to my Lord God. ||2||


ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਸਦੇਸਾ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰਾ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਈਆ ॥

कोई आणि सदेसा देइ प्रभ केरा रिद अंतरि मनि तनि मीठ लगईआ ॥

Koëe âañi sađesaa đeī prbh keraa riđ ânŧŧari mani ŧani meeth lagaëeâa ||

If only someone would bring me news of God; He seems so sweet to my heart, mind and body.

ਮਸਤਕੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਦੇਉ ਚਰਣਾ ਤਲਿ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਈਆ ॥੩॥

मसतकु काटि देउ चरणा तलि जो हरि प्रभु मेले मेलि मिलईआ ॥३॥

Masaŧaku kaati đeū charañaa ŧali jo hari prbhu mele meli milaëeâa ||3||

I would cut off my head and place it under the feet of that one who leads me to meet and unite with my Lord God. ||3||


ਚਲੁ ਚਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਹ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਣ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥

चलु चलु सखी हम प्रभु परबोधह गुण कामण करि हरि प्रभु लहीआ ॥

Chalu chalu sakhee ham prbhu parabođhah guñ kaamañ kari hari prbhu laheeâa ||

Let us go, O my companions, and understand our God; with the spell of virtue, let us obtain our Lord God.

ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਉਆ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਹੀਅਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਈਆ ॥੪॥

भगति वछलु उआ को नामु कहीअतु है सरणि प्रभू तिसु पाछै पईआ ॥४॥

Bhagaŧi vachhalu ūâa ko naamu kaheeâŧu hai sarañi prbhoo ŧisu paachhai paëeâa ||4||

He is called the Lover of His devotees; let us follow in the footsteps of those who seek God's Sanctuary. ||4||


ਖਿਮਾ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨਿ ਦੀਪਕ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਲਈਆ ॥

खिमा सीगार करे प्रभ खुसीआ मनि दीपक गुर गिआनु बलईआ ॥

Khimaa seegaar kare prbh khuseeâa mani đeepak gur giâanu balaëeâa ||

If the soul-bride adorns herself with compassion and forgiveness, God is pleased, and her mind is illumined with the lamp of the Guru's wisdom.

ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੋਗ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਮ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਜੀਉ ਕਟਿ ਕਟਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੫॥

रसि रसि भोग करे प्रभु मेरा हम तिसु आगै जीउ कटि कटि पईआ ॥५॥

Rasi rasi bhog kare prbhu meraa ham ŧisu âagai jeeū kati kati paëeâa ||5||

With happiness and ecstasy, my God enjoys her; I offer each and every bit of my soul to Him. ||5||


ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਾਰੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਹੈ ਬਨਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਤੀਚੂਰੁ ਵਡ ਗਹਨ ਗਹਨਈਆ ॥

हरि हरि हारु कंठि है बनिआ मनु मोतीचूरु वड गहन गहनईआ ॥

Hari hari haaru kantthi hai baniâa manu moŧeechooru vad gahan gahanaëeâa ||

I have made the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, my necklace; my mind tinged with devotion is the intricate ornament of crowning glory.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਈਆ ॥੬॥

हरि हरि सरधा सेज विछाई प्रभु छोडि न सकै बहुतु मनि भईआ ॥६॥

Hari hari sarađhaa sej vichhaaëe prbhu chhodi na sakai bahuŧu mani bhaëeâa ||6||

I have spread out my bed of faith in the Lord, Har, Har. I cannot abandon Him - my mind is filled with such a great love for Him. ||6||


ਕਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਫੋਕਟ ਫੋਕਟਈਆ ॥

कहै प्रभु अवरु अवरु किछु कीजै सभु बादि सीगारु फोकट फोकटईआ ॥

Kahai prbhu âvaru âvaru kichhu keejai sabhu baađi seegaaru phokat phokataëeâa ||

If God says one thing, and the soul-bride does something else, then all her decorations are useless and false.

ਕੀਓ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੀਓ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਥੂਕ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥

कीओ सीगारु मिलण कै ताई प्रभु लीओ सुहागनि थूक मुखि पईआ ॥७॥

Keeõ seegaaru milañ kai ŧaaëe prbhu leeõ suhaagani ŧhook mukhi paëeâa ||7||

She may adorn herself to meet her Husband Lord, but still, only the virtuous soul-bride meets God, and the other's face is spat upon. ||7||


ਹਮ ਚੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਕਿਆ ਹਮ ਕਰਹ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਪਈਆ ॥

हम चेरी तू अगम गुसाई किआ हम करह तेरै वसि पईआ ॥

Ham cheree ŧoo âgam gusaaëe kiâa ham karah ŧerai vasi paëeâa ||

I am Your hand-maiden, O Inaccessible Lord of the Universe; what can I do by myself? I am under Your power.

ਦਇਆ ਦੀਨ ਕਰਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੮॥੫॥੮॥

दइआ दीन करहु रखि लेवहु नानक हरि गुर सरणि समईआ ॥८॥५॥८॥

Đaīâa đeen karahu rakhi levahu naanak hari gur sarañi samaëeâa ||8||5||8||

Be merciful, Lord, to the meek, and save them; Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord, and the Guru. ||8||5||8||

ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਅਗਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਸਰਧਾ ਮਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਠਈਆ ॥

मै मनि तनि प्रेमु अगम ठाकुर का खिनु खिनु सरधा मनि बहुतु उठईआ ॥

Mai mani ŧani premu âgam thaakur kaa khinu khinu sarađhaa mani bahuŧu ūthaëeâa ||

My mind and body are filled with love for my Inaccessible Lord and Master. Each and every instant, I am filled with immense faith and devotion.

ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਮਨ ਪੂਰੀ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਬੂੰਦ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੧॥

गुर देखे सरधा मन पूरी जिउ चात्रिक प्रिउ प्रिउ बूंद मुखि पईआ ॥१॥

Gur đekhe sarađhaa man pooree jiū chaaŧrik priū priū boonđđ mukhi paëeâa ||1||

Gazing upon the Guru, my mind's faith is fulfilled, like the song-bird, which cries and cries, until the rain-drop falls into its mouth. ||1||


ਮਿਲੁ ਮਿਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਈਆ ॥

मिलु मिलु सखी हरि कथा सुनईआ ॥

Milu milu sakhee hari kaŧhaa sunaëeâa ||

Join with me, join with me, O my companions, and teach me the Sermon of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਕਟਿ ਕਟਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुरु दइआ करे प्रभु मेले मै तिसु आगै सिरु कटि कटि पईआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saŧiguru đaīâa kare prbhu mele mai ŧisu âagai siru kati kati paëeâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

The True Guru has mercifully united me with God. Cutting off my head, and chopping it into pieces, I offer it to Him. ||1|| Pause ||


ਰੋਮਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਇਕ ਬੇਦਨ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਈਆ ॥

रोमि रोमि मनि तनि इक बेदन मै प्रभ देखे बिनु नीद न पईआ ॥

Romi romi mani ŧani īk beđan mai prbh đekhe binu neeđ na paëeâa ||

Each and every hair on my head, and my mind and body, suffer the pains of separation; without seeing my God, I cannot sleep.

ਬੈਦਕ ਨਾਟਿਕ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲਾਨੇ ਮੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੀਰ ਲਗਈਆ ॥੨॥

बैदक नाटिक देखि भुलाने मै हिरदै मनि तनि प्रेम पीर लगईआ ॥२॥

Baiđak naatik đekhi bhulaane mai hirađai mani ŧani prem peer lagaëeâa ||2||

The doctors and healers look at me, and are perplexed. Within my heart, mind and body, I feel the pain of divine love. ||2||


ਹਉ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਿਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਮਲੈ ਅਮਲੀ ਮਰਿ ਗਈਆ ॥

हउ खिनु पलु रहि न सकउ बिनु प्रीतम जिउ बिनु अमलै अमली मरि गईआ ॥

Haū khinu palu rahi na sakaū binu preeŧam jiū binu âmalai âmalee mari gaëeâa ||

I cannot live for a moment, for even an instant, without my Beloved, like the opium addict who cannot live without opium.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪਿਆਸ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰੀ ਤਿਨੑ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਦੁਈਆ ॥੩॥

जिन कउ पिआस होइ प्रभ केरी तिन्ह अवरु न भावै बिनु हरि को दुईआ ॥३॥

Jin kaū piâas hoī prbh keree ŧinʱ âvaru na bhaavai binu hari ko đuëeâa ||3||

Those who thirst for God, do not love any other. Without the Lord, there is no other at all. ||3||


ਕੋਈ ਆਨਿ ਆਨਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਘੁਮਿ ਗਈਆ ॥

कोई आनि आनि मेरा प्रभू मिलावै हउ तिसु विटहु बलि बलि घुमि गईआ ॥

Koëe âani âani meraa prbhoo milaavai haū ŧisu vitahu bali bali ghumi gaëeâa ||

If only someone would come and unite me with God; I am devoted, dedicated, a sacrifice to him.

ਅਨੇਕ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਜਨ ਮੇਲੇ ਜਾ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਵਈਆ ॥੪॥

अनेक जनम के विछुड़े जन मेले जा सति सति सतिगुर सरणि पवईआ ॥४॥

Ânek janam ke vichhuɍe jan mele jaa saŧi saŧi saŧigur sarañi pavaëeâa ||4||

After being separated from the Lord for countless incarnations, I am re-united with Him, entering the Sanctuary of the True, True, True Guru. ||4||


ਸੇਜ ਏਕ ਏਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਈਆ ॥

सेज एक एको प्रभु ठाकुरु महलु न पावै मनमुख भरमईआ ॥

Sej ēk ēko prbhu thaakuru mahalu na paavai manamukh bharamaëeâa ||

There is one bed for the soul-bride, and the same bed for God, her Lord and Master. The self-willed manmukh does not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence; she wanders around, in limbo.

ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤ ਸਰਣਿ ਜੇ ਆਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਢੀਲ ਨ ਪਈਆ ॥੫॥

गुरु गुरु करत सरणि जे आवै प्रभु आइ मिलै खिनु ढील न पईआ ॥५॥

Guru guru karaŧ sarañi je âavai prbhu âaī milai khinu dheel na paëeâa ||5||

Uttering, "Guru, Guru", she seeks His Sanctuary; so God comes to meet her, without a moment's delay. ||5||


ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਿਆਚਾਰ ਵਧਾਏ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਪਟ ਲੋਭਈਆ ॥

करि करि किरिआचार वधाए मनि पाखंड करमु कपट लोभईआ ॥

Kari kari kiriâachaar vađhaaē mani paakhandd karamu kapat lobhaëeâa ||

One may perform many rituals, but the mind is filled with hypocrisy, evil deeds and greed.

ਬੇਸੁਆ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਬੇਟਾ ਜਨਮਿਆ ਪਿਤਾ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਈਆ ॥੬॥

बेसुआ कै घरि बेटा जनमिआ पिता ताहि किआ नामु सदईआ ॥६॥

Besuâa kai ghari betaa janamiâa piŧaa ŧaahi kiâa naamu sađaëeâa ||6||

When a son is born in the house of a prostitute, who can tell the name of his father? ||6||


ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਮਈਆ ॥

पूरब जनमि भगति करि आए गुरि हरि हरि हरि हरि भगति जमईआ ॥

Poorab janami bhagaŧi kari âaē guri hari hari hari hari bhagaŧi jamaëeâa ||

Because of devotional worship in my past incarnations, I have been born into this life. The Guru has inspired me to worship the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har.

ਭਗਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੭॥

भगति भगति करते हरि पाइआ जा हरि हरि हरि हरि नामि समईआ ॥७॥

Bhagaŧi bhagaŧi karaŧe hari paaīâa jaa hari hari hari hari naami samaëeâa ||7||

Worshipping, worshipping Him with devotion, I found the Lord, and then I merged into the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har. ||7||


ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਣਿ ਆਣਿ ਮਹਿੰਦੀ ਪੀਸਾਈ ਆਪੇ ਘੋਲਿ ਘੋਲਿ ਅੰਗਿ ਲਈਆ ॥

प्रभि आणि आणि महिंदी पीसाई आपे घोलि घोलि अंगि लईआ ॥

Prbhi âañi âañi mahinđđee peesaaëe âape gholi gholi ânggi laëeâa ||

God Himself came and ground the henna leaves into powder, and applied it to my body.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਬਾਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਢਿ ਲਈਆ ॥੮॥੬॥੨॥੧॥੬॥੯॥

जिन कउ ठाकुरि किरपा धारी बाह पकरि नानक कढि लईआ ॥८॥६॥२॥१॥६॥९॥

Jin kaū thaakuri kirapaa đhaaree baah pakari naanak kadhi laëeâa ||8||6||2||1||6||9||

Our Lord and Master showers His Mercy upon us, and grasps hold of our arms; O Nanak, He lifts us up and saves us. ||8||6||9||2||1||6||9||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਉਪਮਾ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹੀ ॥

उपमा जात न कही मेरे प्रभ की उपमा जात न कही ॥

Ūpamaa jaaŧ na kahee mere prbh kee ūpamaa jaaŧ na kahee ||

I cannot express the Praises of my God; I cannot express His Praises.

ਤਜਿ ਆਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तजि आन सरणि गही ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ŧaji âan sarañi gahee ||1|| rahaaū ||

I have abandoned all others, seeking His Sanctuary. ||1|| Pause ||


ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

प्रभ चरन कमल अपार ॥

Prbh charan kamal âpaar ||

God's Lotus Feet are Infinite.

ਹਉ ਜਾਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥

हउ जाउ सद बलिहार ॥

Haū jaaū sađ balihaar ||

I am forever a sacrifice to Them.

ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਾਹਿ ॥

मनि प्रीति लागी ताहि ॥

Mani preeŧi laagee ŧaahi ||

My mind is in love with Them.

ਤਜਿ ਆਨ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

तजि आन कतहि न जाहि ॥१॥

Ŧaji âan kaŧahi na jaahi ||1||

If I were to abandon Them, there is nowhere else I could go. ||1||


ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਨਾ ਕਹਨ ॥

हरि नाम रसना कहन ॥

Hari naam rasanaa kahan ||

I chant the Lord's Name with my tongue.

ਮਲ ਪਾਪ ਕਲਮਲ ਦਹਨ ॥

मल पाप कलमल दहन ॥

Mal paap kalamal đahan ||

The filth of my sins and evil mistakes is burnt off.

ਚੜਿ ਨਾਵ ਸੰਤ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥

चड़ि नाव संत उधारि ॥

Chaɍi naav sanŧŧ ūđhaari ||

Climbing aboard the Boat of the Saints, I am emancipated.

ਭੈ ਤਰੇ ਸਾਗਰ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

भै तरे सागर पारि ॥२॥

Bhai ŧare saagar paari ||2||

I have been carried across the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||


ਮਨਿ ਡੋਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥

मनि डोरि प्रेम परीति ॥

Mani dori prem pareeŧi ||

My mind is tied to the Lord with the string of love and devotion.

ਇਹ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥

इह संत निरमल रीति ॥

Īh sanŧŧ niramal reeŧi ||

This is the Immaculate Way of the Saints.

ਤਜਿ ਗਏ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥

तजि गए पाप बिकार ॥

Ŧaji gaē paap bikaar ||

They forsake sin and corruption.

ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥੩॥

हरि मिले प्रभ निरंकार ॥३॥

Hari mile prbh nirankkaar ||3||

They meet the Formless Lord God. ||3||


ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੇਖੀਐ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥

प्रभ पेखीऐ बिसमाद ॥

Prbh pekheeâi bisamaađ ||

Gazing upon God, I am wonderstruck.

ਚਖਿ ਅਨਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਾਦ ॥

चखि अनद पूरन साद ॥

Chakhi ânađ pooran saađ ||

I taste the Perfect Flavor of Bliss.

ਨਹ ਡੋਲੀਐ ਇਤ ਊਤ ॥

नह डोलीऐ इत ऊत ॥

Nah doleeâi īŧ ǖŧ ||

I do not waver or wander here or there.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੀਤ ॥੪॥

प्रभ बसे हरि हरि चीत ॥४॥

Prbh base hari hari cheeŧ ||4||

The Lord God, Har, Har, dwells within my consciousness. ||4||


ਤਿਨੑ ਨਾਹਿ ਨਰਕ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥

तिन्ह नाहि नरक निवासु ॥

Ŧinʱ naahi narak nivaasu ||

Those will never go to hell,

ਨਿਤ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥

नित सिमरि प्रभ गुणतासु ॥

Niŧ simari prbh guñaŧaasu ||

who constantly remember God, the treasure of virtue.

ਤੇ ਜਮੁ ਨ ਪੇਖਹਿ ਨੈਨ ॥

ते जमु न पेखहि नैन ॥

Ŧe jamu na pekhahi nain ||

Those will never have to see the Messenger of Death with their eyes,

ਸੁਨਿ ਮੋਹੇ ਅਨਹਤ ਬੈਨ ॥੫॥

सुनि मोहे अनहत बैन ॥५॥

Suni mohe ânahaŧ bain ||5||

who listen, fascinated, to the Unstruck Sound-Current of the Word. ||5||


ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੂਰ ਗੁਪਾਲ ॥

हरि सरणि सूर गुपाल ॥

Hari sarañi soor gupaal ||

I seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Heroic Lord of the World.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਗਤ ਵਸਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥

प्रभ भगत वसि दइआल ॥

Prbh bhagaŧ vasi đaīâal ||

The Merciful Lord God is under the power of His devotees.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਗਮ ਲਹਹਿ ਨ ਭੇਵ ॥

हरि निगम लहहि न भेव ॥

Hari nigam lahahi na bhev ||

The Vedas do not know the Mystery of the Lord.

ਨਿਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵ ॥੬॥

नित करहि मुनि जन सेव ॥६॥

Niŧ karahi muni jan sev ||6||

The silent sages constantly serve Him. ||6||


ਦੁਖ ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰ ॥

दुख दीन दरद निवार ॥

Đukh đeen đarađ nivaar ||

He is the Destroyer of the pains and sorrows of the poor.

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੜੀ ਕਾਰ ॥

जा की महा बिखड़ी कार ॥

Jaa kee mahaa bikhaɍee kaar ||

It is so very difficult to serve Him.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

ता की मिति न जानै कोइ ॥

Ŧaa kee miŧi na jaanai koī ||

No one knows His limits.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੭॥

जलि थलि महीअलि सोइ ॥७॥

Jali ŧhali maheeâli soī ||7||

He is pervading the water, the land and the sky. ||7||


ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਲਖ ਬਾਰ ॥

करि बंदना लख बार ॥

Kari banđđanaa lakh baar ||

Hundreds of thousands of times, I humbly bow to Him.

ਥਕਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਬਾਰ ॥

थकि परिओ प्रभ दरबार ॥

Ŧhaki pariõ prbh đarabaar ||

I have grown weary, and I have collapsed at God's Door.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

प्रभ करहु साधू धूरि ॥

Prbh karahu saađhoo đhoori ||

O God, make me the dust of the feet of the Holy.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੮॥੧॥

नानक मनसा पूरि ॥८॥१॥

Bilaavalu mahalaa 5 ||

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥

प्रभ जनम मरन निवारि ॥

Prbh janam maran nivaari ||

God, please release me from birth and death.

ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥

हारि परिओ दुआरि ॥

Haari pariõ đuâari ||

I have grown weary, and collapsed at Your door.

ਗਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗ ॥

गहि चरन साधू संग ॥

Gahi charan saađhoo sangg ||

I grasp Your Feet, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਮਨ ਮਿਸਟ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ॥

मन मिसट हरि हरि रंग ॥

Man misat hari hari rangg ||

The Love of the Lord, Har, Har, is sweet to my mind.

ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਲੇਹੁ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ॥

करि दइआ लेहु लड़ि लाइ ॥

Kari đaīâa lehu laɍi laaī ||

Be Merciful, and attach me to the hem of Your robe.

ਨਾਨਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥

नानका नामु धिआइ ॥१॥

Naanakaa naamu đhiâaī ||1||

Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||


ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ॥

दीना नाथ दइआल मेरे सुआमी दीना नाथ दइआल ॥

Đeenaa naaŧh đaīâal mere suâamee đeenaa naaŧh đaīâal ||

O Merciful Master of the meek, You are my Lord and Master, O Merciful Master of the meek.

ਜਾਚਉ ਸੰਤ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जाचउ संत रवाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jaachaū sanŧŧ ravaal ||1|| rahaaū ||

I yearn for the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੂਪ ॥

संसारु बिखिआ कूप ॥

Sanssaaru bikhiâa koop ||

The world is a pit of poison,

ਤਮ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮੋਹਤ ਘੂਪ ॥

तम अगिआन मोहत घूप ॥

Ŧam âgiâan mohaŧ ghoop ||

Filled with the utter darkness of ignorance and emotional attachment.

ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਲੇਹੁ ॥

गहि भुजा प्रभ जी लेहु ॥

Gahi bhujaa prbh jee lehu ||

Please take my hand, and save me, Dear God.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਦੇਹੁ ॥

हरि नामु अपुना देहु ॥

Hari naamu âpunaa đehu ||

Please bless me with Your Name, Lord.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥

प्रभ तुझ बिना नही ठाउ ॥

Prbh ŧujh binaa nahee thaaū ||

Without You, God, I have no place at all.

ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੨॥

नानका बलि बलि जाउ ॥२॥

Naanakaa bali bali jaaū ||2||

Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You. ||2||


ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਾਧੀ ਦੇਹ ॥

लोभि मोहि बाधी देह ॥

Lobhi mohi baađhee đeh ||

The human body is in the grip of greed and attachment.

ਬਿਨੁ ਭਜਨ ਹੋਵਤ ਖੇਹ ॥

बिनु भजन होवत खेह ॥

Binu bhajan hovaŧ kheh ||

Without meditating and vibrating upon the Lord, it is reduced to ashes.

ਜਮਦੂਤ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ॥

जमदूत महा भइआन ॥

Jamađooŧ mahaa bhaīâan ||

The Messenger of Death is dreadful and horrible.

ਚਿਤ ਗੁਪਤ ਕਰਮਹਿ ਜਾਨ ॥

चित गुपत करमहि जान ॥

Chiŧ gupaŧ karamahi jaan ||

The recording scribes of the conscious and the unconscious, Chitr and Gupt, know all actions and karma.

ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥

दिनु रैनि साखि सुनाइ ॥

Đinu raini saakhi sunaaī ||

Day and night, they bear witness.

ਨਾਨਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥੩॥

नानका हरि सरनाइ ॥३॥

Naanakaa hari saranaaī ||3||

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||3||


ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥

भै भंजना मुरारि ॥

Bhai bhanjjanaa muraari ||

O Lord, Destroyer of fear and egotism,

ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥

करि दइआ पतित उधारि ॥

Kari đaīâa paŧiŧ ūđhaari ||

Be merciful, and save the sinners.

ਮੇਰੇ ਦੋਖ ਗਨੇ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

मेरे दोख गने न जाहि ॥

Mere đokh gane na jaahi ||

My sins cannot even be counted.

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਤਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥

हरि बिना कतहि समाहि ॥

Hari binaa kaŧahi samaahi ||

Without the Lord, who can hide them?

ਗਹਿ ਓਟ ਚਿਤਵੀ ਨਾਥ ॥

गहि ओट चितवी नाथ ॥

Gahi õt chiŧavee naaŧh ||

I thought of Your Support, and seized it, O my Lord and Master.

ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੇ ਰਖੁ ਹਾਥ ॥੪॥

नानका दे रखु हाथ ॥४॥

Naanakaa đe rakhu haaŧh ||4||

Please, give Nanak Your hand and save him, Lord! ||4||


ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥

हरि गुण निधे गोपाल ॥

Hari guñ niđhe gopaal ||

The Lord, the treasure of virtue, the Lord of the world,

ਸਰਬ ਘਟ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥

सरब घट प्रतिपाल ॥

Sarab ghat prŧipaal ||

cherishes and sustains every heart.

ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ॥

मनि प्रीति दरसन पिआस ॥

Mani preeŧi đarasan piâas ||

My mind is thirsty for Your Love, and the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.

ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ॥

गोबिंद पूरन आस ॥

Gobinđđ pooran âas ||

O Lord of the Universe, please fulfill my hopes.

ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

इक निमख रहनु न जाइ ॥

Īk nimakh rahanu na jaaī ||

I cannot survive, even for an instant.

ਵਡ ਭਾਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥

वड भागि नानक पाइ ॥५॥

Vad bhaagi naanak paaī ||5||

By great good fortune, Nanak has found the Lord. ||5||


ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰ ॥

प्रभ तुझ बिना नही होर ॥

Prbh ŧujh binaa nahee hor ||

Without You, God, there is no other at all.

ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚੰਦ ਚਕੋਰ ॥

मनि प्रीति चंद चकोर ॥

Mani preeŧi chanđđ chakor ||

My mind loves You, as the partridge loves the moon,

ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨ ਜਲ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ॥

जिउ मीन जल सिउ हेतु ॥

Jiū meen jal siū heŧu ||

As the fish loves the water,

ਅਲਿ ਕਮਲ ਭਿੰਨੁ ਨ ਭੇਤੁ ॥

अलि कमल भिंनु न भेतु ॥

Âli kamal bhinnu na bheŧu ||

As the bee and the lotus cannot be separated.

ਜਿਉ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਆਸ ॥

जिउ चकवी सूरज आस ॥

Jiū chakavee sooraj âas ||

As the chakvi bird longs for the sun,

ਨਾਨਕ ਚਰਨ ਪਿਆਸ ॥੬॥

नानक चरन पिआस ॥६॥

Naanak charan piâas ||6||

So does Nanak thirst for the Lord's feet. ||6||


ਜਿਉ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਭਰਤ ਪਰਾਨ ॥

जिउ तरुनि भरत परान ॥

Jiū ŧaruni bharaŧ paraan ||

As the young bride places the hopes of her life in her husband,

ਜਿਉ ਲੋਭੀਐ ਧਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥

जिउ लोभीऐ धनु दानु ॥

Jiū lobheeâi đhanu đaanu ||

As the greedy person looks upon the gift of wealth,

ਜਿਉ ਦੂਧ ਜਲਹਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥

जिउ दूध जलहि संजोगु ॥

Jiū đoođh jalahi sanjjogu ||

As milk is joined to water,

ਜਿਉ ਮਹਾ ਖੁਧਿਆਰਥ ਭੋਗੁ ॥

जिउ महा खुधिआरथ भोगु ॥

Jiū mahaa khuđhiâaraŧh bhogu ||

As food is to the very hungry man,

ਜਿਉ ਮਾਤ ਪੂਤਹਿ ਹੇਤੁ ॥

जिउ मात पूतहि हेतु ॥

Jiū maaŧ pooŧahi heŧu ||

And as the mother loves her son,

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੇਤ ॥੭॥

हरि सिमरि नानक नेत ॥७॥

Hari simari naanak neŧ ||7||

So does Nanak constantly remember the Lord in meditation. ||7||


ਜਿਉ ਦੀਪ ਪਤਨ ਪਤੰਗ ॥

जिउ दीप पतन पतंग ॥

Jiū đeep paŧan paŧangg ||

As the moth falls into the lamp,

ਜਿਉ ਚੋਰੁ ਹਿਰਤ ਨਿਸੰਗ ॥

जिउ चोरु हिरत निसंग ॥

Jiū choru hiraŧ nisangg ||

As the thief steals without hesitation,

ਮੈਗਲਹਿ ਕਾਮੈ ਬੰਧੁ ॥

मैगलहि कामै बंधु ॥

Maigalahi kaamai banđđhu ||

As the elephant is trapped by its sexual urges,

ਜਿਉ ਗ੍ਰਸਤ ਬਿਖਈ ਧੰਧੁ ॥

जिउ ग्रसत बिखई धंधु ॥

Jiū grsaŧ bikhaëe đhanđđhu ||

As the sinner is caught in his sins,

ਜਿਉ ਜੂਆਰ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

जिउ जूआर बिसनु न जाइ ॥

Jiū jooâar bisanu na jaaī ||

As the gambler's addiction does not leave him,

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੮॥

हरि नानक इहु मनु लाइ ॥८॥

Hari naanak īhu manu laaī ||8||

So is this mind of Nanak's attached to the Lord. ||8||


ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਾਦੈ ਨੇਹੁ ॥

कुरंक नादै नेहु ॥

Kurankk naađai nehu ||

As the deer loves the sound of the bell,

ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਮੇਹੁ ॥

चात्रिकु चाहत मेहु ॥

Chaaŧriku chaahaŧ mehu ||

And as the song-bird longs for the rain,

ਜਨ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ॥

जन जीवना सतसंगि ॥

Jan jeevanaa saŧasanggi ||

The Lord's humble servant lives in the Society of the Saints,

ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਭਜਨਾ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

गोबिदु भजना रंगि ॥

Gobiđu bhajanaa ranggi ||

Lovingly meditating and vibrating upon the Lord of the Universe.

ਰਸਨਾ ਬਖਾਨੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

रसना बखानै नामु ॥

Rasanaa bakhaanai naamu ||

My tongue chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੯॥

नानक दरसन दानु ॥९॥

Naanak đarasan đaanu ||9||

Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||9||


ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਸੁਨਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਇ ॥

गुन गाइ सुनि लिखि देइ ॥

Gun gaaī suni likhi đeī ||

One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and hears them, and writes them,

ਸੋ ਸਰਬ ਫਲ ਹਰਿ ਲੇਇ ॥

सो सरब फल हरि लेइ ॥

So sarab phal hari leī ||

Receives all fruits and rewards from the Lord.

ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹ ਕਰਤ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥

कुल समूह करत उधारु ॥

Kul samooh karaŧ ūđhaaru ||

He saves all his ancestors and generations,

ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

संसारु उतरसि पारि ॥

Sanssaaru ūŧarasi paari ||

And crosses over the world-ocean.

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਤਾਹਿ ॥

हरि चरन बोहिथ ताहि ॥

Hari charan bohiŧh ŧaahi ||

The Lord's Feet are the boat to carry him across.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਹਿ ॥

मिलि साधसंगि जसु गाहि ॥

Mili saađhasanggi jasu gaahi ||

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he sings the Praises of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥

हरि पैज रखै मुरारि ॥

Hari paij rakhai muraari ||

The Lord protects his honor.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥੧੦॥੨॥

हरि नानक सरनि दुआरि ॥१०॥२॥

Hari naanak sarani đuâari ||10||2||

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord's door. ||10||2||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Īk-õamkkaari saŧigur prsaađi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਏਕਮ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥

एकम एकंकारु निराला ॥

Ēkam ēkankkaaru niraalaa ||

The First Day: The One Universal Creator is unique,

ਅਮਰੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਲਾ ॥

अमरु अजोनी जाति न जाला ॥

Âmaru âjonee jaaŧi na jaalaa ||

Immortal, unborn, beyond social class or involvement.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ॥

अगम अगोचरु रूपु न रेखिआ ॥

Âgam âgocharu roopu na rekhiâa ||

He is inaccessible and unfathomable, with no form or feature.

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ॥

खोजत खोजत घटि घटि देखिआ ॥

Khojaŧ khojaŧ ghati ghati đekhiâa ||

Searching, searching, I have seen Him in each and every heart.

ਜੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

जो देखि दिखावै तिस कउ बलि जाई ॥

Jo đekhi đikhaavai ŧis kaū bali jaaëe ||

I am a sacrifice to one who sees, and inspires others to see Him.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥

गुर परसादि परम पदु पाई ॥१॥

Gur parasaađi param pađu paaëe ||1||

By Guru's Grace, I have obtained the supreme status. ||1||


ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥

किआ जपु जापउ बिनु जगदीसै ॥

Kiâa japu jaapaū binu jagađeesai ||

Whose Name should I chant, and meditate on, except the Lord of the Universe?

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर कै सबदि महलु घरु दीसै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur kai sabađi mahalu gharu đeesai ||1|| rahaaū ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is revealed within the home of one's own heart. ||1|| Pause ||


ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ॥

दूजै भाइ लगे पछुताणे ॥

Đoojai bhaaī lage pachhuŧaañe ||

The Second Day: Those who are in love with another, come to regret and repent.

ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੇ ॥

जम दरि बाधे आवण जाणे ॥

Jam đari baađhe âavañ jaañe ||

The are tied up at Death's door, and continue coming and going.

ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਆਵਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

किआ लै आवहि किआ ले जाहि ॥

Kiâa lai âavahi kiâa le jaahi ||

What have they brought, and what will they take with them when they go?

ਸਿਰਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

सिरि जमकालु सि चोटा खाहि ॥

Siri jamakaalu si chotaa khaahi ||

The Messenger of Death looms over their heads, and they endure his beating.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਕੋਇ ॥

बिनु गुर सबद न छूटसि कोइ ॥

Binu gur sabađ na chhootasi koī ||

Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, no one finds release.

ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਕੀਨੑੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

पाखंडि कीन्है मुकति न होइ ॥२॥

Paakhanddi keenʱai mukaŧi na hoī ||2||

Practicing hypocrisy, no one finds liberation. ||2||


ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ॥

आपे सचु कीआ कर जोड़ि ॥

Âape sachu keeâa kar joɍi ||

The True Lord Himself created the universe, joining the elements together.

ਅੰਡਜ ਫੋੜਿ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿ ॥

अंडज फोड़ि जोड़ि विछोड़ि ॥

Ânddaj phoɍi joɍi vichhoɍi ||

Breaking the cosmic egg, He united, and separated.

ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਕੀਏ ਬੈਸਣ ਕਉ ਥਾਉ ॥

धरति अकासु कीए बैसण कउ थाउ ॥

Đharaŧi âkaasu keeē baisañ kaū ŧhaaū ||

He made the earth and the sky into places to live.

ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨੰਤੁ ਕੀਏ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ॥

राति दिनंतु कीए भउ भाउ ॥

Raaŧi đinanŧŧu keeē bhaū bhaaū ||

He created day and night, fear and love.

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

जिनि कीए करि वेखणहारा ॥

Jini keeē kari vekhañahaaraa ||

The One who created the Creation, also watches over it.

ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

अवरु न दूजा सिरजणहारा ॥३॥

Âvaru na đoojaa sirajañahaaraa ||3||

There is no other Creator Lord. ||3||


ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥

त्रितीआ ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसा ॥

Ŧriŧeeâa brhamaa bisanu mahesaa ||

The Third Day: He created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,

ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵ ਉਪਾਏ ਵੇਸਾ ॥

देवी देव उपाए वेसा ॥

Đevee đev ūpaaē vesaa ||

The gods, goddesses and various manifestations.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

जोती जाती गणत न आवै ॥

Joŧee jaaŧee gañaŧ na âavai ||

The lights and forms cannot be counted.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

जिनि साजी सो कीमति पावै ॥

Jini saajee so keemaŧi paavai ||

The One who fashioned them, knows their value.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

कीमति पाइ रहिआ भरपूरि ॥

Keemaŧi paaī rahiâa bharapoori ||

He evaluates them, and totally pervades them.

ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੪॥

किसु नेड़ै किसु आखा दूरि ॥४॥

Kisu neɍai kisu âakhaa đoori ||4||

Who is close, and who is far away? ||4||


ਚਉਥਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦਾ ॥

चउथि उपाए चारे बेदा ॥

Chaūŧhi ūpaaē chaare beđaa ||

The Fourth Day: He created the four Vedas,

ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਭੇਦਾ ॥

खाणी चारे बाणी भेदा ॥

Khaañee chaare baañee bheđaa ||

The four sources of creation, and distinct forms of speech.

ਅਸਟ ਦਸਾ ਖਟੁ ਤੀਨਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥

असट दसा खटु तीनि उपाए ॥

Âsat đasaa khatu ŧeeni ūpaaē ||

He created the eighteen Puraanas, the six Shaastras and the three qualities.

ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥

सो बूझै जिसु आपि बुझाए ॥

So boojhai jisu âapi bujhaaē ||

He alone understands, whom the Lord causes to understand.

ਤੀਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਚਉਥੈ ਵਾਸਾ ॥

तीनि समावै चउथै वासा ॥

Ŧeeni samaavai chaūŧhai vaasaa ||

One who overcomes the three qualities, dwells in the fourth state.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੫॥

प्रणवति नानक हम ता के दासा ॥५॥

Prñavaŧi naanak ham ŧaa ke đaasaa ||5||

Prays Nanak, I am his slave. ||5||


ਪੰਚਮੀ ਪੰਚ ਭੂਤ ਬੇਤਾਲਾ ॥

पंचमी पंच भूत बेताला ॥

Pancchamee pancch bhooŧ beŧaalaa ||

The Fifth Day: The five elements are demons.

ਆਪਿ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥

आपि अगोचरु पुरखु निराला ॥

Âapi âgocharu purakhu niraalaa ||

The Lord Himself is unfathomable and detached.

ਇਕਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸੇ ॥

इकि भ्रमि भूखे मोह पिआसे ॥

Īki bhrmi bhookhe moh piâase ||

Some are gripped by doubt, hunger, emotional attachment and desire.

ਇਕਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ॥

इकि रसु चाखि सबदि त्रिपतासे ॥

Īki rasu chaakhi sabađi ŧripaŧaase ||

Some taste the sublime essence of the Shabad, and are satisfied.

ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਮਰਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

इकि रंगि राते इकि मरि धूरि ॥

Īki ranggi raaŧe īki mari đhoori ||

Some are imbued with the Lord's Love, while some die, and are reduced to dust.

ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੬॥

इकि दरि घरि साचै देखि हदूरि ॥६॥

Īki đari ghari saachai đekhi hađoori ||6||

Some attain the Court and the Mansion of the True Lord, and behold Him, ever-present. ||6||


ਝੂਠੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਉ ॥

झूठे कउ नाही पति नाउ ॥

Jhoothe kaū naahee paŧi naaū ||

The false one has no honor or fame;

ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਕਾਉ ॥

कबहु न सूचा काला काउ ॥

Kabahu na soochaa kaalaa kaaū ||

Like the black crow, he never becomes pure.

ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਪੰਖੀ ਬੰਧਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥

पिंजरि पंखी बंधिआ कोइ ॥

Pinjjari pankkhee banđđhiâa koī ||

He is like the bird, imprisoned in a cage;

ਛੇਰੀਂ ਭਰਮੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

छेरीं भरमै मुकति न होइ ॥

Chhereen bharamai mukaŧi na hoī ||

He paces back and forth behind the bars, but he is not released.

ਤਉ ਛੂਟੈ ਜਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥

तउ छूटै जा खसमु छडाए ॥

Ŧaū chhootai jaa khasamu chhadaaē ||

He alone is emancipated, whom the Lord and Master emancipates.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੭॥

गुरमति मेले भगति द्रिड़ाए ॥७॥

Guramaŧi mele bhagaŧi đriɍaaē ||7||

He follows the Guru's Teachings, and enshrines devotional worship. ||7||


ਖਸਟੀ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਜੇ ॥

खसटी खटु दरसन प्रभ साजे ॥

Khasatee khatu đarasan prbh saaje ||

The Sixth Day: God organized the six systems of Yoga.

ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਵਾਜੇ ॥

अनहद सबदु निराला वाजे ॥

Ânahađ sabađu niraalaa vaaje ||

The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates of itself.

ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥

जे प्रभ भावै ता महलि बुलावै ॥

Je prbh bhaavai ŧaa mahali bulaavai ||

If God wills it so, then one is summoned to the Mansion of His Presence.

ਸਬਦੇ ਭੇਦੇ ਤਉ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

सबदे भेदे तउ पति पावै ॥

Sabađe bheđe ŧaū paŧi paavai ||

One who is pierced through by the Shabad, obtains honor.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਸ ਖਪਹਿ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥

करि करि वेस खपहि जलि जावहि ॥

Kari kari ves khapahi jali jaavahi ||

Those who wear religious robes burn, and are ruined.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੮॥

साचै साचे साचि समावहि ॥८॥

Saachai saache saachi samaavahi ||8||

Through Truth, the truthful ones merge into the True Lord. ||8||


ਸਪਤਮੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥

सपतमी सतु संतोखु सरीरि ॥

Sapaŧamee saŧu sanŧŧokhu sareeri ||

The Seventh Day: When the body is imbued with Truth and contentment,

ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਭਰੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨੀਰਿ ॥

सात समुंद भरे निरमल नीरि ॥

Saaŧ samunđđ bhare niramal neeri ||

The seven seas within are filled with the Immaculate Water.

ਮਜਨੁ ਸੀਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

मजनु सीलु सचु रिदै वीचारि ॥

Majanu seelu sachu riđai veechaari ||

Bathing in good conduct, and contemplating the True Lord within the heart,

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

गुर कै सबदि पावै सभि पारि ॥

Gur kai sabađi paavai sabhi paari ||

One obtains the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and carries everyone across.

ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਉ ਭਾਇ ॥

मनि साचा मुखि साचउ भाइ ॥

Mani saachaa mukhi saachaū bhaaī ||

With the True Lord in the mind, and the True Lord lovingly on one's lips,

ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੯॥

सचु नीसाणै ठाक न पाइ ॥९॥

Sachu neesaañai thaak na paaī ||9||

One is blessed with the banner of Truth, and meets with no obstructions. ||9||


ਅਸਟਮੀ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਾਧੈ ॥

असटमी असट सिधि बुधि साधै ॥

Âsatamee âsat siđhi buđhi saađhai ||

The Eighth Day: The eight miraculous powers come when one subdues his own mind,

ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਅਰਾਧੈ ॥

सचु निहकेवलु करमि अराधै ॥

Sachu nihakevalu karami âraađhai ||

And contemplates the True Lord through pure actions.

ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਬਿਸਰਾਉ ॥

पउण पाणी अगनी बिसराउ ॥

Paūñ paañee âganee bisaraaū ||

Forget the three qualities of wind, water and fire,

ਤਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

तही निरंजनु साचो नाउ ॥

Ŧahee niranjjanu saacho naaū ||

And concentrate on the pure True Name.

ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

तिसु महि मनूआ रहिआ लिव लाइ ॥

Ŧisu mahi manooâa rahiâa liv laaī ||

That human who remains lovingly focused on the Lord,

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੧੦॥

प्रणवति नानकु कालु न खाइ ॥१०॥

Prñavaŧi naanaku kaalu na khaaī ||10||

Prays Nanak, shall not be consumed by death. ||10||


ਨਾਉ ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੇ ਨਾਥ ਨਵ ਖੰਡਾ ॥

नाउ नउमी नवे नाथ नव खंडा ॥

Naaū naūmee nave naaŧh nav khanddaa ||

The Ninth Day: the nine masters of Yoga, the nine realms of the earth,

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਵੰਡਾ ॥

घटि घटि नाथु महा बलवंडा ॥

Ghati ghati naaŧhu mahaa balavanddaa ||

and each and every heart, the Name is the supreme almighty Master.

ਆਈ ਪੂਤਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥

आई पूता इहु जगु सारा ॥

Âaëe pooŧaa īhu jagu saaraa ||

This whole world is the child of Maya.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਆਦਿ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥

प्रभ आदेसु आदि रखवारा ॥

Prbh âađesu âađi rakhavaaraa ||

I bow in submission to God, my Protector from the very beginning of time.

ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਗੁ ॥

आदि जुगादी है भी होगु ॥

Âađi jugaađee hai bhee hogu ||

He was in the beginning, He has been throughout the ages, He is now, and He shall always be.

ਓਹੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧੧॥

ओहु अपर्मपरु करणै जोगु ॥११॥

Õhu âparampparu karañai jogu ||11||

He is unlimited, and capable of doing everything. ||11||


ਦਸਮੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥

दसमी नामु दानु इसनानु ॥

Đasamee naamu đaanu īsanaanu ||

The Tenth Day: Meditate on the Naam, give to charity, and purify yourself.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਜਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥

अनदिनु मजनु सचा गुण गिआनु ॥

Ânađinu majanu sachaa guñ giâanu ||

Night and day, bathe in spiritual wisdom and the Glorious Virtues of the True Lord.

ਸਚਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥

सचि मैलु न लागै भ्रमु भउ भागै ॥

Sachi mailu na laagai bhrmu bhaū bhaagai ||

Truth cannot be polluted; doubt and fear run away from it.

ਬਿਲਮੁ ਨ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਕਾਚੈ ਤਾਗੈ ॥

बिलमु न तूटसि काचै तागै ॥

Bilamu na ŧootasi kaachai ŧaagai ||

The flimsy thread breaks in an instant.

ਜਿਉ ਤਾਗਾ ਜਗੁ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥

जिउ तागा जगु एवै जाणहु ॥

Jiū ŧaagaa jagu ēvai jaañahu ||

Know that the world is just like this thread.

ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਹੁ ॥੧੨॥

असथिरु चीतु साचि रंगु माणहु ॥१२॥

Âsaŧhiru cheeŧu saachi ranggu maañahu ||12||

Your consciousness shall become steady and stable, enjoying the Love of the True Lord. ||12||


ਏਕਾਦਸੀ ਇਕੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਵੈ ॥

एकादसी इकु रिदै वसावै ॥

Ēkaađasee īku riđai vasaavai ||

The Eleventh Day: Enshrine the One Lord within your heart.

ਹਿੰਸਾ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥

हिंसा ममता मोहु चुकावै ॥

Hinssaa mamaŧaa mohu chukaavai ||

Eradicate cruelty, egotism and emotional attachment.

ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਆਤਮ ਚੀਨੈ ॥

फलु पावै ब्रतु आतम चीनै ॥

Phalu paavai brŧu âaŧam cheenai ||

Earn the fruitful rewards, by observing the fast of knowing your own self.

ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਰਾਚਿ ਤਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੀਨੈ ॥

पाखंडि राचि ततु नही बीनै ॥

Paakhanddi raachi ŧaŧu nahee beenai ||

One who is engrossed in hypocrisy, does not see the true essence.

ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਾਹਾਰੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ॥

निरमलु निराहारु निहकेवलु ॥

Niramalu niraahaaru nihakevalu ||

The Lord is immaculate, self-sustaining and unattached.

ਸੂਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਮਲੁ ॥੧੩॥

सूचै साचे ना लागै मलु ॥१३॥

Soochai saache naa laagai malu ||13||

The Pure, True Lord cannot be polluted. ||13||


ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਏਕੋ ਏਕਾ ॥

जह देखउ तह एको एका ॥

Jah đekhaū ŧah ēko ēkaa ||

Wherever I look, I see the One Lord there.

ਹੋਰਿ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ਵੇਕੋ ਵੇਕਾ ॥

होरि जीअ उपाए वेको वेका ॥

Hori jeeâ ūpaaē veko vekaa ||

He created the other beings, of many and various kinds.

ਫਲੋਹਾਰ ਕੀਏ ਫਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

फलोहार कीए फलु जाइ ॥

Phalohaar keeē phalu jaaī ||

Eating only fruits, one loses the fruits of life.

ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਏ ਸਾਦੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

रस कस खाए सादु गवाइ ॥

Ras kas khaaē saađu gavaaī ||

Eating only delicacies of various sorts, one loses the true taste.

ਕੂੜੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਲਪਟੈ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥

कूड़ै लालचि लपटै लपटाइ ॥

Kooɍai laalachi lapatai lapataaī ||

In fraud and greed, people are engrossed and entangled.

ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੧੪॥

छूटै गुरमुखि साचु कमाइ ॥१४॥

Chhootai guramukhi saachu kamaaī ||14||

The Gurmukh is emancipated, practicing Truth. ||14||


ਦੁਆਦਸਿ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਅਉਧੂਤਾ ॥

दुआदसि मुद्रा मनु अउधूता ॥

Đuâađasi muđraa manu âūđhooŧaa ||

The Twelfth Day: One whose mind is not attached to the twelve signs,

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਸੂਤਾ ॥

अहिनिसि जागहि कबहि न सूता ॥

Âhinisi jaagahi kabahi na sooŧaa ||

Remains awake day and night, and never sleeps.

ਜਾਗਤੁ ਜਾਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

जागतु जागि रहै लिव लाइ ॥

Jaagaŧu jaagi rahai liv laaī ||

He remains awake and aware, lovingly centered on the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥

गुर परचै तिसु कालु न खाइ ॥

Gur parachai ŧisu kaalu na khaaī ||

With faith in the Guru, he is not consumed by death.

ਅਤੀਤ ਭਏ ਮਾਰੇ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥

अतीत भए मारे बैराई ॥

Âŧeeŧ bhaē maare bairaaëe ||

Those who become detached, and conquer the five enemies

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਹ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧੫॥

प्रणवति नानक तह लिव लाई ॥१५॥

Prñavaŧi naanak ŧah liv laaëe ||15||

- prays Nanak, they are lovingly absorbed in the Lord. ||15||


ਦੁਆਦਸੀ ਦਇਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

दुआदसी दइआ दानु करि जाणै ॥

Đuâađasee đaīâa đaanu kari jaañai ||

The Twelfth Day: Know, and practice, compassion and charity.

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਤੋ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥

बाहरि जातो भीतरि आणै ॥

Baahari jaaŧo bheeŧari âañai ||

Bring your out-going mind back home.

ਬਰਤੀ ਬਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ॥

बरती बरत रहै निहकाम ॥

Baraŧee baraŧ rahai nihakaam ||

Observe the fast of remaining free of desire.

ਅਜਪਾ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮ ॥

अजपा जापु जपै मुखि नाम ॥

Âjapaa jaapu japai mukhi naam ||

Chant the unchanted Chant of the Naam with your mouth.

ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

तीनि भवण महि एको जाणै ॥

Ŧeeni bhavañ mahi ēko jaañai ||

Know that the One Lord is contained in the three worlds.

ਸਭਿ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੧੬॥

सभि सुचि संजम साचु पछाणै ॥१६॥

Sabhi suchi sanjjam saachu pachhaañai ||16||

Purity and self-discipline are all contained in knowing the Truth. ||16||


ਤੇਰਸਿ ਤਰਵਰ ਸਮੁਦ ਕਨਾਰੈ ॥

तेरसि तरवर समुद कनारै ॥

Ŧerasi ŧaravar samuđ kanaarai ||

The Thirteenth Day: He is like a tree on the sea-shore.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਿਖਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰੈ ॥

अम्रितु मूलु सिखरि लिव तारै ॥

Âmmmriŧu moolu sikhari liv ŧaarai ||

But his roots can become immortal, if his mind is attuned to the Lord's Love.

ਡਰ ਡਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਬੂਡੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

डर डरि मरै न बूडै कोइ ॥

Dar dari marai na boodai koī ||

Then, he will not die of fear or anxiety, and he will never drown.

ਨਿਡਰੁ ਬੂਡਿ ਮਰੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥

निडरु बूडि मरै पति खोइ ॥

Nidaru boodi marai paŧi khoī ||

Without the Fear of God, he drowns and dies, and loses his honor.

ਡਰ ਮਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

डर महि घरु घर महि डरु जाणै ॥

Dar mahi gharu ghar mahi daru jaañai ||

With the Fear of God in his heart, and his heart in the Fear of God, he knows God.

ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੈ ॥੧੭॥

तखति निवासु सचु मनि भाणै ॥१७॥

Ŧakhaŧi nivaasu sachu mani bhaañai ||17||

He sits on the throne, and becomes pleasing to the Mind of the True Lord. ||17||


ਚਉਦਸਿ ਚਉਥੇ ਥਾਵਹਿ ਲਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

चउदसि चउथे थावहि लहि पावै ॥

Chaūđasi chaūŧhe ŧhaavahi lahi paavai ||

The Fourteenth Day: One who enters into the fourth state,

ਰਾਜਸ ਤਾਮਸ ਸਤ ਕਾਲ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥

राजस तामस सत काल समावै ॥

Raajas ŧaamas saŧ kaal samaavai ||

Overcomes time, and the three qualities of raajas, taamas and satva.

ਸਸੀਅਰ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਰੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥

ससीअर कै घरि सूरु समावै ॥

Saseeâr kai ghari sooru samaavai ||

Then the sun enters into the house of the moon,

ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

जोग जुगति की कीमति पावै ॥

Jog jugaŧi kee keemaŧi paavai ||

And one knows the value of the technology of Yoga.

ਚਉਦਸਿ ਭਵਨ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਸਮਾਏ ॥

चउदसि भवन पाताल समाए ॥

Chaūđasi bhavan paaŧaal samaaē ||

Who is permeating the fourteen worlds, the nether regions of the underworld,

ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੧੮॥

खंड ब्रहमंड रहिआ लिव लाए ॥१८॥

Khandd brhamandd rahiâa liv laaē ||18||

the galaxies and solar systems; he remains lovingly focused on that God. ||18||


ਅਮਾਵਸਿਆ ਚੰਦੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਗੈਣਾਰਿ ॥

अमावसिआ चंदु गुपतु गैणारि ॥

Âmaavasiâa chanđđu gupaŧu gaiñaari ||

Amaavas - The Night of the New Moon: The moon is hidden in the sky.

ਬੂਝਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

बूझहु गिआनी सबदु बीचारि ॥

Boojhahu giâanee sabađu beechaari ||

O wise one, understand and contemplate the Word of the Shabad.

ਸਸੀਅਰੁ ਗਗਨਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਈ ॥

ससीअरु गगनि जोति तिहु लोई ॥

Saseeâru gagani joŧi ŧihu loëe ||

The moon in the sky illuminates the three worlds.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

करि करि वेखै करता सोई ॥

Kari kari vekhai karaŧaa soëe ||

Creating the creation, the Creator beholds it.

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

गुर ते दीसै सो तिस ही माहि ॥

Gur ŧe đeesai so ŧis hee maahi ||

One who sees, through the Guru, merges into Him.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧੯॥

मनमुखि भूले आवहि जाहि ॥१९॥

Manamukhi bhoole âavahi jaahi ||19||

The self-willed manmukhs are deluded, coming and going in reincarnation. ||19||


ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਥਾਪਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਥਾਨਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥

घरु दरु थापि थिरु थानि सुहावै ॥

Gharu đaru ŧhaapi ŧhiru ŧhaani suhaavai ||

One who establishes his home within his own heart, obtains the most beautiful, permanent place.

ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

आपु पछाणै जा सतिगुरु पावै ॥

Âapu pachhaañai jaa saŧiguru paavai ||

One comes to understand his own self, when he finds the True Guru.

ਜਹ ਆਸਾ ਤਹ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸਾ ॥

जह आसा तह बिनसि बिनासा ॥

Jah âasaa ŧah binasi binaasaa ||

Wherever there is hope, there is destruction and desolation.

ਫੂਟੈ ਖਪਰੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਨਸਾ ॥

फूटै खपरु दुबिधा मनसा ॥

Phootai khaparu đubiđhaa manasaa ||

The bowl of duality and selfishness breaks.

ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਲ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥

ममता जाल ते रहै उदासा ॥

Mamaŧaa jaal ŧe rahai ūđaasaa ||

He who remains detached amidst the traps of attachment,

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੨੦॥੧॥

प्रणवति नानक हम ता के दासा ॥२०॥१॥

Prñavaŧi naanak ham ŧaa ke đaasaa ||20||1||

Prays Nanak, I am the slave of that one. ||20||1||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Īk-õamkkaari saŧigur prsaađi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਆਦਿਤ ਵਾਰਿ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ॥

आदित वारि आदि पुरखु है सोई ॥

Âađiŧ vaari âađi purakhu hai soëe ||

Sunday: He, the Lord, is the Primal Being.

ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

आपे वरतै अवरु न कोई ॥

Âape varaŧai âvaru na koëe ||

He Himself is the Pervading Lord; there is no other at all.

ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਜਗੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਪਰੋਈ ॥

ओति पोति जगु रहिआ परोई ॥

Õŧi poŧi jagu rahiâa paroëe ||

Through and through, He is woven into the fabric of the world.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

आपे करता करै सु होई ॥

Âape karaŧaa karai su hoëe ||

Whatever the Creator Himself does, that alone happens.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

नामि रते सदा सुखु होई ॥

Naami raŧe sađaa sukhu hoëe ||

Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one is forever in peace.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥

गुरमुखि विरला बूझै कोई ॥१॥

Guramukhi viralaa boojhai koëe ||1||

But how rare is the one, who, as Gurmukh, understands this. ||1||


ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਪਨੀ ਜਪਉ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਾ ॥

हिरदै जपनी जपउ गुणतासा ॥

Hirađai japanee japaū guñaŧaasaa ||

Within my heart, I chant the Chant of the Lord, the treasure of virtue.

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਨ ਪਗਿ ਲਗਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि अगम अगोचरु अपर्मपर सुआमी जन पगि लगि धिआवउ होइ दासनि दासा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari âgam âgocharu âparamppar suâamee jan pagi lagi đhiâavaū hoī đaasani đaasaa ||1|| rahaaū ||

The Lord, my Lord and Master, is inaccessible, unfathomable and unlimited. Grasping the feet of the Lord's humble servants, I meditate on Him, and become the slave of His slaves. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸੋਮਵਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

सोमवारि सचि रहिआ समाइ ॥

Somavaari sachi rahiâa samaaī ||

Monday: The True Lord is permeating and pervading.

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

तिस की कीमति कही न जाइ ॥

Ŧis kee keemaŧi kahee na jaaī ||

His value cannot be described.

ਆਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਭਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

आखि आखि रहे सभि लिव लाइ ॥

Âakhi âakhi rahe sabhi liv laaī ||

Talking and speaking about Him, all keep themselves lovingly focused on Him.

ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥

जिसु देवै तिसु पलै पाइ ॥

Jisu đevai ŧisu palai paaī ||

Devotion falls into the laps of those whom He so blesses.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਲਖਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

अगम अगोचरु लखिआ न जाइ ॥

Âgam âgocharu lakhiâa na jaaī ||

He is inaccessible and unfathomable; He cannot be seen.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

गुर कै सबदि हरि रहिआ समाइ ॥२॥

Gur kai sabađi hari rahiâa samaaī ||2||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord is seen to be permeating and pervading everywhere. ||2||


ਮੰਗਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

मंगलि माइआ मोहु उपाइआ ॥

Manggali maaīâa mohu ūpaaīâa ||

Tuesday: The Lord created love and attachment to Maya.

ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

आपे सिरि सिरि धंधै लाइआ ॥

Âape siri siri đhanđđhai laaīâa ||

He Himself has enjoined each and every being to their tasks.

ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥

आपि बुझाए सोई बूझै ॥

Âapi bujhaaē soëe boojhai ||

He alone understands, whom the Lord causes to understand.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥

गुर कै सबदि दरु घरु सूझै ॥

Gur kai sabađi đaru gharu soojhai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one understands his heart and home.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

प्रेम भगति करे लिव लाइ ॥

Prem bhagaŧi kare liv laaī ||

He worships the Lord in loving devotion.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੩॥

हउमै ममता सबदि जलाइ ॥३॥

Haūmai mamaŧaa sabađi jalaaī ||3||

His egotism and self-conceit are burnt away by the Shabad. ||3||


ਬੁਧਵਾਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

बुधवारि आपे बुधि सारु ॥

Buđhavaari âape buđhi saaru ||

Wednesday: He Himself bestows sublime understanding.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

गुरमुखि करणी सबदु वीचारु ॥

Guramukhi karañee sabađu veechaaru ||

The Gurmukh does good deeds, and contemplates the Word of the Shabad.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

नामि रते मनु निरमलु होइ ॥

Naami raŧe manu niramalu hoī ||

Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind become pure and immaculate.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਇ ॥

हरि गुण गावै हउमै मलु खोइ ॥

Hari guñ gaavai haūmai malu khoī ||

He sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and washes off the filth of egotism.

ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਦ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥

दरि सचै सद सोभा पाए ॥

Đari sachai sađ sobhaa paaē ||

In the Court of the True Lord, he obtains lasting glory.
