Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਹਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਉ ॥

हउ अनदिनु हरि नामु कीरतनु करउ ॥

Hau anadinu hari naamu keeratanu karau ||

Night and day, I sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the Name of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਤਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुरि मो कउ हरि नामु बताइआ हउ हरि बिनु खिनु पलु रहि न सकउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Satiguri mo kau hari naamu bataaiaa hau hari binu khinu palu rahi na sakau ||1|| rahaau ||

The True Guru has revealed to me the Name of the Lord; without the Lord, I cannot live, for a moment, even an instant. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਮਰੈ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਹਉ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ॥

हमरै स्रवणु सिमरनु हरि कीरतनु हउ हरि बिनु रहि न सकउ हउ इकु खिनु ॥

Hamarai srva(nn)u simaranu hari keeratanu hau hari binu rahi na sakau hau iku khinu ||

My ears hear the Lord's Kirtan, and I contemplate Him; without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant.

ਜੈਸੇ ਹੰਸੁ ਸਰਵਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ॥੧॥

जैसे हंसु सरवर बिनु रहि न सकै तैसे हरि जनु किउ रहै हरि सेवा बिनु ॥१॥

Jaise hanssu saravar binu rahi na sakai taise hari janu kiu rahai hari sevaa binu ||1||

As the swan cannot live without the lake, how can the Lord's slave live without serving Him? ||1||

ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਰਿਦ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਈ ਮੋਹ ਅਪਮਾਨ ॥

किनहूं प्रीति लाई दूजा भाउ रिद धारि किनहूं प्रीति लाई मोह अपमान ॥

Kinahoonn preeti laaee doojaa bhaau rid dhaari kinahoonn preeti laaee moh apamaan ||

Some enshrine love for duality in their hearts, and some pledge love for worldly attachments and ego.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਪਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥੨॥੧੪॥੬੬॥

हरि जन प्रीति लाई हरि निरबाण पद नानक सिमरत हरि हरि भगवान ॥२॥१४॥६६॥

Hari jan preeti laaee hari nirabaa(nn) pad naanak simarat hari hari bhagavaan ||2||14||66||

The Lord's servant embraces love for the Lord and the state of Nirvaanaa; Nanak contemplates the Lord, the Lord God. ||2||14||66||

Aasaavaree, Fourth Mehl:

ਮਾਈ ਮੋਰੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

माई मोरो प्रीतमु रामु बतावहु री माई ॥

Maaee moro preetamu raamu bataavahu ree maaee ||

O mother, my mother, tell me about my Beloved Lord.

ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਕਰਹਲੁ ਬੇਲਿ ਰੀਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हउ हरि बिनु खिनु पलु रहि न सकउ जैसे करहलु बेलि रीझाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hau hari binu khinu palu rahi na sakau jaise karahalu beli reejhaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Without the Lord, I cannot live for a moment, even an instant; I love Him, like the camel loves the vine. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਮਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗ ਬਿਰਕਤੁ ਭਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਮੀਤ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥

हमरा मनु बैराग बिरकतु भइओ हरि दरसन मीत कै ताई ॥

Hamaraa manu bairaag birakatu bhaio hari darasan meet kai taaee ||

My mind has become sad and distant, longing for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, my Friend.

ਜੈਸੇ ਅਲਿ ਕਮਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤੈਸੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

जैसे अलि कमला बिनु रहि न सकै तैसे मोहि हरि बिनु रहनु न जाई ॥१॥

Jaise ali kamalaa binu rahi na sakai taise mohi hari binu rahanu na jaaee ||1||

As the bumblebee cannot live without the lotus, I cannot live without the Lord. ||1||

ਰਾਖੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥

राखु सरणि जगदीसुर पिआरे मोहि सरधा पूरि हरि गुसाई ॥

Raakhu sara(nn)i jagadeesur piaare mohi saradhaa poori hari gusaaee ||

Keep me under Your Protection, O Beloved Master of the Universe; fulfill my faith, O Lord of the World.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਹੋਤ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੨॥੩੯॥੧੩॥੧੫॥੬੭॥

जन नानक कै मनि अनदु होत है हरि दरसनु निमख दिखाई ॥२॥३९॥१३॥१५॥६७॥

Jan naanak kai mani anadu hot hai hari darasanu nimakh dikhaaee ||2||39||13||15||67||

Servant Nanak's mind is filled with bliss, when he beholds the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, even for an instant. ||2||39||13||15||67||

Aasaavaree, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਨਸਾ ਏਕ ਮਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

मनसा एक मानि हां ॥

Manasaa ek maani haan ||

Cherish one desire only:

ਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਤ ਧਿਆਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

गुर सिउ नेत धिआनि हां ॥

Gur siu net dhiaani haan ||

Meditate continually on the Guru.

ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਸੰਤ ਮੰਤ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

द्रिड़ु संत मंत गिआनि हां ॥

Dri(rr)u santt mantt giaani haan ||

Install the wisdom of the Saints' Mantra.

ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

सेवा गुर चरानि हां ॥

Sevaa gur charaani haan ||

Serve the Feet of the Guru,

ਤਉ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तउ मिलीऐ गुर क्रिपानि मेरे मना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tau mileeai gur kripaani mere manaa ||1|| rahaau ||

And you shall meet Him, by Guru's Grace, O my mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਟੂਟੇ ਅਨ ਭਰਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

टूटे अन भरानि हां ॥

Toote an bharaani haan ||

All doubts are dispelled,

ਰਵਿਓ ਸਰਬ ਥਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

रविओ सरब थानि हां ॥

Ravio sarab thaani haan ||

And the Lord is seen to be pervading all places.

ਲਹਿਓ ਜਮ ਭਇਆਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

लहिओ जम भइआनि हां ॥

Lahio jam bhaiaani haan ||

The fear of death is dispelled,

ਪਾਇਓ ਪੇਡ ਥਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

पाइओ पेड थानि हां ॥

Paaio ped thaani haan ||

And the primal place is obtained.

ਤਉ ਚੂਕੀ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਨਿ ॥੧॥

तउ चूकी सगल कानि ॥१॥

Tau chookee sagal kaani ||1||

Then, all subservience is removed. ||1||

ਲਹਨੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਥਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

लहनो जिसु मथानि हां ॥

Lahano jisu mathaani haan ||

One who has such destiny recorded upon his forehead, obtains it;

ਭੈ ਪਾਵਕ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

भै पावक पारि परानि हां ॥

Bhai paavak paari paraani haan ||

He crosses over the terrifying ocean of fire.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਥਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

निज घरि तिसहि थानि हां ॥

Nij ghari tisahi thaani haan ||

He obtains a place in the home of his own self,

ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਰਸਹਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

हरि रस रसहि मानि हां ॥

Hari ras rasahi maani haan ||

And enjoys the most sublime essence of the Lord's essence.

ਲਾਥੀ ਤਿਸ ਭੁਖਾਨਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

लाथी तिस भुखानि हां ॥

Laathee tis bhukhaani haan ||

His hunger is appeased;

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਓ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੫੮॥

नानक सहजि समाइओ रे मना ॥२॥२॥१५८॥

Naanak sahaji samaaio re manaa ||2||2||158||

Nanak, he is absorbed in celestial peace, O my mind. ||2||2||158||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨੀ ਹਾਂ ॥

हरि हरि हरि गुनी हां ॥

Hari hari hari gunee haan ||

Sing the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har.

ਜਪੀਐ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨੀ ਹਾਂ ॥

जपीऐ सहज धुनी हां ॥

Japeeai sahaj dhunee haan ||

Meditate on the celestial music.

ਸਾਧੂ ਰਸਨ ਭਨੀ ਹਾਂ ॥

साधू रसन भनी हां ॥

Saadhoo rasan bhanee haan ||

The tongues of the holy Saints repeat it.

ਛੂਟਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੁਨੀ ਹਾਂ ॥

छूटन बिधि सुनी हां ॥

Chhootan bidhi sunee haan ||

I have heard that this is the way to emancipation.

ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡ ਪੁਨੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

पाईऐ वड पुनी मेरे मना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Paaeeai vad punee mere manaa ||1|| rahaau ||

This is found by the greatest merit, O my mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਖੋਜਹਿ ਜਨ ਮੁਨੀ ਹਾਂ ॥

खोजहि जन मुनी हां ॥

Khojahi jan munee haan ||

The silent sages search for Him.

ਸ੍ਰਬ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਨੀ ਹਾਂ ॥

स्रब का प्रभ धनी हां ॥

Srb kaa prbh dhanee haan ||

God is the Master of all.

ਦੁਲਭ ਕਲਿ ਦੁਨੀ ਹਾਂ ॥

दुलभ कलि दुनी हां ॥

Dulabh kali dunee haan ||

It is so difficult to find Him in this world, in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga.

ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੀ ਹਾਂ ॥

दूख बिनासनी हां ॥

Dookh binaasanee haan ||

He is the Dispeller of distress.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਨੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥

प्रभ पूरन आसनी मेरे मना ॥१॥

Prbh pooran aasanee mere manaa ||1||

God is the Fulfiller of desires, O my mind. ||1||

ਮਨ ਸੋ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

मन सो सेवीऐ हां ॥

Man so seveeai haan ||

O my mind, serve Him.

ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵੀਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

अलख अभेवीऐ हां ॥

Alakh abheveeai haan ||

He is unknowable and inscrutable.

ਤਾਂ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

तां सिउ प्रीति करि हां ॥

Taan siu preeti kari haan ||

Enshrine love for Him.

ਬਿਨਸਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਰਿ ਹਾਂ ॥

बिनसि न जाइ मरि हां ॥

Binasi na jaai mari haan ||

He does not perish, or go away, or die.

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥

गुर ते जानिआ हां ॥

Gur te jaaniaa haan ||

He is known only through the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੫੯॥

नानक मनु मानिआ मेरे मना ॥२॥३॥१५९॥

Naanak manu maaniaa mere manaa ||2||3||159||

Nanak, my mind is satisfied with the Lord, O my mind. ||2||3||159||

ਏਕਾ ਓਟ ਗਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

एका ओट गहु हां ॥

Ekaa ot gahu haan ||

Grab hold of the Support of the One Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

गुर का सबदु कहु हां ॥

Gur kaa sabadu kahu haan ||

Chant the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਆਗਿਆ ਸਤਿ ਸਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

आगिआ सति सहु हां ॥

Aagiaa sati sahu haan ||

Submit to the Order of the True Lord.

ਮਨਹਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਲਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

मनहि निधानु लहु हां ॥

Manahi nidhaanu lahu haan ||

Receive the treasure in your mind.

ਸੁਖਹਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सुखहि समाईऐ मेरे मना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sukhahi samaaeeai mere manaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Thus you shall be absorbed in peace, O my mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੀਵਤ ਜੋ ਮਰੈ ਹਾਂ ॥

जीवत जो मरै हां ॥

Jeevat jo marai haan ||

One who is dead while yet alive,

ਦੁਤਰੁ ਸੋ ਤਰੈ ਹਾਂ ॥

दुतरु सो तरै हां ॥

Dutaru so tarai haan ||

Crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਸਭ ਕੀ ਰੇਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

सभ की रेनु होइ हां ॥

Sabh kee renu hoi haan ||

One who becomes the dust of all

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕਹਉ ਸੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

निरभउ कहउ सोइ हां ॥

Nirabhau kahau soi haan ||

He alone is called fearless.

ਮਿਟੇ ਅੰਦੇਸਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥

मिटे अंदेसिआ हां ॥

Mite anddesiaa haan ||

His anxieties are removed

ਸੰਤ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥

संत उपदेसिआ मेरे मना ॥१॥

Santt upadesiaa mere manaa ||1||

By the Teachings of the Saints, O my mind. ||1||

ਜਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

जिसु जन नाम सुखु हां ॥

Jisu jan naam sukhu haan ||

That humble being, who takes happiness in the Naam, the Name of the Lord

ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਕਦੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

तिसु निकटि न कदे दुखु हां ॥

Tisu nikati na kade dukhu haan ||

Pain never draws near him.

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

जो हरि हरि जसु सुने हां ॥

Jo hari hari jasu sune haan ||

One who listens to the Praise of the Lord, Har, Har,

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

सभु को तिसु मंने हां ॥

Sabhu ko tisu manne haan ||

Is obeyed by all men.

ਸਫਲੁ ਸੁ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ॥

सफलु सु आइआ हां ॥

Saphalu su aaiaa haan ||

How fortunate it is that he came into the world;

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੬੦॥

नानक प्रभ भाइआ मेरे मना ॥२॥४॥१६०॥

Naanak prbh bhaaiaa mere manaa ||2||4||160||

Nanak, he is pleasing to God, O my mind. ||2||4||160||

Aasaavaree, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

मिलि हरि जसु गाईऐ हां ॥

Mili hari jasu gaaeeai haan ||

Meeting together, let us sing the Praises of the Lord,

ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

परम पदु पाईऐ हां ॥

Param padu paaeeai haan ||

And attain the supreme state.

ਉਆ ਰਸ ਜੋ ਬਿਧੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

उआ रस जो बिधे हां ॥

Uaa ras jo bidhe haan ||

Those who obtain that sublime essence,

ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਧੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

ता कउ सगल सिधे हां ॥

Taa kau sagal sidhe haan ||

Obtain all of the spiritual powers of the Siddhas.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥

अनदिनु जागिआ हां ॥

Anadinu jaagiaa haan ||

They remain awake and aware night and day;

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਡਭਾਗਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

नानक बडभागिआ मेरे मना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Naanak badabhaagiaa mere manaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Nanak, they are blessed by great good fortune, O my mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੰਤ ਪਗ ਧੋਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

संत पग धोईऐ हां ॥

Santt pag dhoeeai haan ||

Let us wash the feet of the Saints;

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

दुरमति खोईऐ हां ॥

Duramati khoeeai haan ||

Our evil-mindedness shall be cleansed.

ਦਾਸਹ ਰੇਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

दासह रेनु होइ हां ॥

Daasah renu hoi haan ||

Becoming the dust of the feet of the Lord's slaves,

ਬਿਆਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

बिआपै दुखु न कोइ हां ॥

Biaapai dukhu na koi haan ||

One shall not be afflicted with pain.

ਭਗਤਾਂ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

भगतां सरनि परु हां ॥

Bhagataan sarani paru haan ||

Taking to the Sanctuary of His devotees,

ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਕਦੇ ਮਰੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

जनमि न कदे मरु हां ॥

Janami na kade maru haan ||

He is no longer subject to birth and death.

ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੇ ਭਏ ਹਾਂ ॥

असथिरु से भए हां ॥

Asathiru se bhae haan ||

They alone become eternal,

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਿਨੑ ਜਪਿ ਲਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥

हरि हरि जिन्ह जपि लए मेरे मना ॥१॥

Hari hari jinh japi lae mere manaa ||1||

Who chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind. ||1||

ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਤੂੰ ਹਾਂ ॥

साजनु मीतु तूं हां ॥

Saajanu meetu toonn haan ||

You are my Friend, my Best Friend.

ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ਮੂੰ ਹਾਂ ॥

नामु द्रिड़ाइ मूं हां ॥

Naamu dri(rr)aai moonn haan ||

Please, implant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

तिसु बिनु नाहि कोइ हां ॥

Tisu binu naahi koi haan ||

Without Him, there is not any other.

ਮਨਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਸੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

मनहि अराधि सोइ हां ॥

Manahi araadhi soi haan ||

Within my mind, I worship Him in adoration.

ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਹਾਂ ॥

निमख न वीसरै हां ॥

Nimakh na veesarai haan ||

I do not forget Him, even for an instant.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਸਰੈ ਹਾਂ ॥

तिसु बिनु किउ सरै हां ॥

Tisu binu kiu sarai haan ||

How can I live without Him?

ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ਜਾਉ ਹਾਂ ॥

गुर कउ कुरबानु जाउ हां ॥

Gur kau kurabaanu jaau haan ||

I am a sacrifice to the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਪੇ ਨਾਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੬੧॥

नानकु जपे नाउ मेरे मना ॥२॥५॥१६१॥

Naanaku jape naau mere manaa ||2||5||161||

Nanak, chant the Name, O my mind. ||2||5||161||

Aasaavaree mahalaa 5 ||

Aasaavaree, Fifth Mehl:

ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੂੰ ਹਾਂ ॥

कारन करन तूं हां ॥

Kaaran karan toonn haan ||

You are the Creator, the Cause of causes.

ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾ ਸੁਝੈ ਮੂੰ ਹਾਂ ॥

अवरु ना सुझै मूं हां ॥

Avaru naa sujhai moonn haan ||

I cannot think of any other.

ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹੋਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

करहि सु होईऐ हां ॥

Karahi su hoeeai haan ||

Whatever You do, comes to pass.

ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੋਈਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

सहजि सुखि सोईऐ हां ॥

Sahaji sukhi soeeai haan ||

I sleep in peace and poise.

ਧੀਰਜ ਮਨਿ ਭਏ ਹਾਂ ॥

धीरज मनि भए हां ॥

Dheeraj mani bhae haan ||

My mind has become patient,

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਪਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

प्रभ कै दरि पए मेरे मना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Prbh kai dari pae mere manaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Since I fell at God's Door, O my mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਮੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

साधू संगमे हां ॥

Saadhoo sanggame haan ||

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy,

ਪੂਰਨ ਸੰਜਮੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

पूरन संजमे हां ॥

Pooran sanjjame haan ||

I gained perfect control over my senses.

ਜਬ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੇ ਆਪ ਹਾਂ ॥

जब ते छुटे आप हां ॥

Jab te chhute aap haan ||

Ever since I rid myself of my self-conceit,

ਤਬ ਤੇ ਮਿਟੇ ਤਾਪ ਹਾਂ ॥

तब ते मिटे ताप हां ॥

Tab te mite taap haan ||

My sufferings have ended.

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀਆ ਹਾਂ ॥

किरपा धारीआ हां ॥

Kirapaa dhaareeaa haan ||

He has showered His Mercy upon me.

ਪਤਿ ਰਖੁ ਬਨਵਾਰੀਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੧॥

पति रखु बनवारीआ मेरे मना ॥१॥

Pati rakhu banavaareeaa mere manaa ||1||

The Creator Lord has preserved my honor, O my mind. ||1||

ਇਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

इहु सुखु जानीऐ हां ॥

Ihu sukhu jaaneeai haan ||

Know that this is the only peace;

ਹਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਹਾਂ ॥

हरि करे सु मानीऐ हां ॥

Hari kare su maaneeai haan ||

Accept whatever the Lord does.

ਮੰਦਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

मंदा नाहि कोइ हां ॥

Manddaa naahi koi haan ||

No one is bad.

ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਰੇਨ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

संत की रेन होइ हां ॥

Santt kee ren hoi haan ||

Become the dust of the Feet of the Saints.

ਆਪੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਖੈ ਹਾਂ ॥

आपे जिसु रखै हां ॥

Aape jisu rakhai haan ||

He Himself preserves those

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੋ ਚਖੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੨॥

हरि अम्रितु सो चखै मेरे मना ॥२॥

Hari ammmritu so chakhai mere manaa ||2||

Who taste the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord, O my mind. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

जिस का नाहि कोइ हां ॥

Jis kaa naahi koi haan ||

One who has no one to call his own

ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

तिस का प्रभू सोइ हां ॥

Tis kaa prbhoo soi haan ||

God belongs to him.

ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਹਾਂ ॥

अंतरगति बुझै हां ॥

Anttaragati bujhai haan ||

God knows the state of our innermost being.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੁਝੈ ਹਾਂ ॥

सभु किछु तिसु सुझै हां ॥

Sabhu kichhu tisu sujhai haan ||

He knows everything.

ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਹਾਂ ॥

पतित उधारि लेहु हां ॥

Patit udhaari lehu haan ||

Please, Lord, save the sinners.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਏਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਾ ॥੩॥੬॥੧੬੨॥

नानक अरदासि एहु मेरे मना ॥३॥६॥१६२॥

Naanak aradaasi ehu mere manaa ||3||6||162||

This is Nanak's prayer, O my mind. ||3||6||162||

ਆਸਾਵਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਇਕਤੁਕਾ ॥

आसावरी महला ५ इकतुका ॥

Aasaavaree mahalaa 5 ikatukaa ||

Aasaavaree, Fifth Mehl, Ik-Tukas:

ਓਇ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ਹਾਂ ॥

ओइ परदेसीआ हां ॥

Oi paradeseeaa haan ||

O my stranger soul,

ਸੁਨਤ ਸੰਦੇਸਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सुनत संदेसिआ हां ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sunat sanddesiaa haan ||1|| rahaau ||

Listen to the call. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਾ ਸਿਉ ਰਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

जा सिउ रचि रहे हां ॥

Jaa siu rachi rahe haan ||

Whatever you are attached to,

ਸਭ ਕਉ ਤਜਿ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ ॥

सभ कउ तजि गए हां ॥

Sabh kau taji gae haan ||

You shall have to leave it all behind.

ਸੁਪਨਾ ਜਿਉ ਭਏ ਹਾਂ ॥

सुपना जिउ भए हां ॥

Supanaa jiu bhae haan ||

These things seem like only a dream,

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨੑਿ ਲਏ ॥੧॥

हरि नामु जिन्हि लए ॥१॥

Hari naamu jinhi lae ||1||

To one who takes the Lord's Name. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਤਜਿ ਅਨ ਲਗੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

हरि तजि अन लगे हां ॥

Hari taji an lage haan ||

Forsaking the Lord, and clinging to another,

ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਭਗੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

जनमहि मरि भगे हां ॥

Janamahi mari bhage haan ||

They run toward death and reincarnation.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਿ ਲਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

हरि हरि जनि लहे हां ॥

Hari hari jani lahe haan ||

But those humble beings, who attach themselves to the Lord, Har, Har,

ਜੀਵਤ ਸੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥

जीवत से रहे हां ॥

Jeevat se rahe haan ||

Continue to live.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥

जिसहि क्रिपालु होइ हां ॥

Jisahi kripaalu hoi haan ||

One who is blessed with the Lord's Mercy,

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੬੩॥੨੩੨॥

नानक भगतु सोइ ॥२॥७॥१६३॥२३२॥

Naanak bhagatu soi ||2||7||163||232||

O Nanak, becomes His devotee. ||2||7||163||232||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

मेरे मन हरि सिउ लागी प्रीति ॥

Mere man hari siu laagee preeti ||

My mind is in love with the Lord.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਾਚੀ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

साधसंगि हरि हरि जपत निरमल साची रीति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saadhasanggi hari hari japat niramal saachee reeti ||1|| rahaau ||

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har; my lifestyle is pure and true. ||1|| Pause ||

ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਘਣੀ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ॥

दरसन की पिआस घणी चितवत अनिक प्रकार ॥

Darasan kee piaas gha(nn)ee chitavat anik prkaar ||

I have such a great thirst for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; I think of him in so many ways.

ਕਰਹੁ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

करहु अनुग्रहु पारब्रहम हरि किरपा धारि मुरारि ॥१॥

Karahu anugrhu paarabrham hari kirapaa dhaari muraari ||1||

So be Merciful, O Supreme Lord; shower Your Mercy upon me, O Lord, Destroyer of pride. ||1||

ਮਨੁ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਆਇਆ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

मनु परदेसी आइआ मिलिओ साध कै संगि ॥

Manu paradesee aaiaa milio saadh kai sanggi ||

My stranger soul has come to join the Saadh Sangat.

ਜਿਸੁ ਵਖਰ ਕਉ ਚਾਹਤਾ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਓ ਨਾਮਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥

जिसु वखर कउ चाहता सो पाइओ नामहि रंगि ॥२॥

Jisu vakhar kau chaahataa so paaio naamahi ranggi ||2||

That commodity, which I longed for, I have found in the Love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਜੇਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

जेते माइआ रंग रस बिनसि जाहि खिन माहि ॥

Jete maaiaa rangg ras binasi jaahi khin maahi ||

There are so many pleasures and delights of Maya, but they pass away in an instant.

ਭਗਤ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਭੁੰਚਹਿ ਸਭ ਠਾਇ ॥੩॥

भगत रते तेरे नाम सिउ सुखु भुंचहि सभ ठाइ ॥३॥

Bhagat rate tere naam siu sukhu bhuncchahi sabh thaai ||3||

Your devotees are imbued with Your Name; they enjoy peace everywhere. ||3||

ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਚਲਤਉ ਪੇਖੀਐ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

सभु जगु चलतउ पेखीऐ निहचलु हरि को नाउ ॥

Sabhu jagu chalatau pekheeai nihachalu hari ko naau ||

The entire world is seen to be passing away; only the Lord's Name is lasting and stable.

ਕਰਿ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾਈ ਸਾਧ ਸਿਉ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥੪॥

करि मित्राई साध सिउ निहचलु पावहि ठाउ ॥४॥

Kari mitraaee saadh siu nihachalu paavahi thaau ||4||

So make friends with the Holy Saints, so that you may obtain a lasting place of rest. ||4||

ਮੀਤ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪਾ ਕੋਊ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਸਾਥ ॥

मीत साजन सुत बंधपा कोऊ होत न साथ ॥

Meet saajan sut banddhapaa kou hot na saath ||

Friends, acquaintances, children and relatives - none of these shall be your companion.

ਏਕੁ ਨਿਵਾਹੂ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦੀਨਾ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਥ ॥੫॥

एकु निवाहू राम नाम दीना का प्रभु नाथ ॥५॥

Eku nivaahoo raam naam deenaa kaa prbhu naath ||5||

The Lord's Name alone shall go with you; God is the Master of the meek. ||5||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਭਏ ਲਗਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਤੇਹ ॥

चरन कमल बोहिथ भए लगि सागरु तरिओ तेह ॥

Charan kamal bohith bhae lagi saagaru tario teh ||

The Lord's Lotus Feet are the Boat; attached to Them, you shall cross over the world-ocean.

ਭੇਟਿਓ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹ ॥੬॥

भेटिओ पूरा सतिगुरू साचा प्रभ सिउ नेह ॥६॥

Bhetio pooraa satiguroo saachaa prbh siu neh ||6||

Meeting with the Perfect True Guru, I embrace True Love for God. ||6||

ਸਾਧ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਜਾਚਨਾ ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ॥

साध तेरे की जाचना विसरु न सासि गिरासि ॥

Saadh tere kee jaachanaa visaru na saasi giraasi ||

The prayer of Your Holy Saints is, ""May I never forget You, for even one breath or morsel of food.""

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਭਲਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੭॥

जो तुधु भावै सो भला तेरै भाणै कारज रासि ॥७॥

Jo tudhu bhaavai so bhalaa terai bhaa(nn)ai kaaraj raasi ||7||

Whatever is pleasing to Your Will is good; by Your Sweet Will, my affairs are adjusted. ||7||

ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਿਲੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥

सुख सागर प्रीतम मिले उपजे महा अनंद ॥

Sukh saagar preetam mile upaje mahaa anandd ||

I have met my Beloved, the Ocean of Peace, and Supreme Bliss has welled up within me.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਦੁਖ ਮਿਟੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭੇਟੇ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥

कहु नानक सभ दुख मिटे प्रभ भेटे परमानंद ॥८॥१॥२॥

Kahu naanak sabh dukh mite prbh bhete paramaanandd ||8||1||2||

Says Nanak, all my pains have been eradicated, meeting with God, the Lord of Supreme Bliss. ||8||1||2||
