ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਾਸੀਐ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

बलिहारी तिसु संत पिआरे जिसु प्रसादि प्रभु मनि वासीऐ ॥ रहाउ ॥

Balihaaree tisu santt piaare jisu prsaadi prbhu mani vaaseeai || rahaau ||

I am a sacrifice to the Beloved Saints; by their kind favor, God comes to dwell in the mind. || Pause ||

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਨੁ ਨਿਖੂਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

जा का दानु निखूटै नाही ॥

Jaa kaa daanu nikhootai naahee ||

His gifts are never exhausted.

ਭਲੀ ਭਾਤਿ ਸਭ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥

भली भाति सभ सहजि समाही ॥

Bhalee bhaati sabh sahaji samaahee ||

In His subtle way, He easily absorbs all.

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਖਸ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਈ ॥

जा की बखस न मेटै कोई ॥

Jaa kee bakhas na metai koee ||

His benevolence cannot be erased.

ਮਨਿ ਵਾਸਾਈਐ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥

मनि वासाईऐ साचा सोई ॥२॥

Mani vaasaaeeai saachaa soee ||2||

So enshrine that True Lord within your mind. ||2||

ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਨ ॥

सगल समग्री ग्रिह जा कै पूरन ॥

Sagal samagree grih jaa kai pooran ||

His house is filled with all sorts of articles;

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੂਖ ਨ ਝੂਰਨ ॥

प्रभ के सेवक दूख न झूरन ॥

Prbh ke sevak dookh na jhooran ||

God's servants never suffer pain.

ਓਟਿ ਗਹੀ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

ओटि गही निरभउ पदु पाईऐ ॥

Oti gahee nirabhau padu paaeeai ||

Holding to His Support, the state of fearless dignity is obtained.

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸੋ ਗੁਨ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੩॥

सासि सासि सो गुन निधि गाईऐ ॥३॥

Saasi saasi so gun nidhi gaaeeai ||3||

With each and every breath, sing of the Lord, the treasure of excellence. ||3||

ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਈਐ ॥

दूरि न होई कतहू जाईऐ ॥

Doori na hoee katahoo jaaeeai ||

He is not far from us, wherever we go.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

नदरि करे ता हरि हरि पाईऐ ॥

Nadari kare taa hari hari paaeeai ||

When He shows His Mercy, we obtain the Lord, Har, Har.

ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਕਰੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

अरदासि करी पूरे गुर पासि ॥

Aradaasi karee poore gur paasi ||

I offer this prayer to the Perfect Guru.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੫॥੯੯॥

नानकु मंगै हरि धनु रासि ॥४॥५॥९९॥

Naanaku manggai hari dhanu raasi ||4||5||99||

Nanak begs for the treasure of the Lord's Name. ||4||5||99||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਤਨ ਕਾ ਦੂਖ ॥

प्रथमे मिटिआ तन का दूख ॥

Prthame mitiaa tan kaa dookh ||

First, the pains of the body vanish;

ਮਨ ਸਗਲ ਕਉ ਹੋਆ ਸੂਖੁ ॥

मन सगल कउ होआ सूखु ॥

Man sagal kau hoaa sookhu ||

Then, the mind becomes totally peaceful.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਦੀਨੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

करि किरपा गुर दीनो नाउ ॥

Kari kirapaa gur deeno naau ||

In His Mercy, the Guru bestows the Lord's Name.

ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥

बलि बलि तिसु सतिगुर कउ जाउ ॥१॥

Bali bali tisu satigur kau jaau ||1||

I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to that True Guru. ||1||

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥

गुरु पूरा पाइओ मेरे भाई ॥

Guru pooraa paaio mere bhaaee ||

I have obtained the Perfect Guru, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

रोग सोग सभ दूख बिनासे सतिगुर की सरणाई ॥ रहाउ ॥

Rog sog sabh dookh binaase satigur kee sara(nn)aaee || rahaau ||

All illness, sorrows and sufferings are dispelled, in the Sanctuary of the True Guru. || Pause ||

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

गुर के चरन हिरदै वसाए ॥

Gur ke charan hiradai vasaae ||

The feet of the Guru abide within my heart;

ਮਨ ਚਿੰਤਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥

मन चिंतत सगले फल पाए ॥

Man chinttat sagale phal paae ||

I have received all the fruits of my heart's desires.

ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਸਭ ਹੋਈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥

अगनि बुझी सभ होई सांति ॥

Agani bujhee sabh hoee saanti ||

The fire is extinguished, and I am totally peaceful.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨॥

करि किरपा गुरि कीनी दाति ॥२॥

Kari kirapaa guri keenee daati ||2||

Showering His Mercy, the Guru has given this gift. ||2||

ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਥਾਨੁ ॥

निथावे कउ गुरि दीनो थानु ॥

Nithaave kau guri deeno thaanu ||

The Guru has given shelter to the shelterless.

ਨਿਮਾਨੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

निमाने कउ गुरि कीनो मानु ॥

Nimaane kau guri keeno maanu ||

The Guru has given honor to the dishonored.

ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥

बंधन काटि सेवक करि राखे ॥

Banddhan kaati sevak kari raakhe ||

Shattering his bonds, the Guru has saved His servant.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਚਾਖੇ ॥੩॥

अम्रित बानी रसना चाखे ॥३॥

Ammmrit baanee rasanaa chaakhe ||3||

I taste with my tongue the Ambrosial Bani of His Word. ||3||

ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪੂਜ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਾ ॥

वडै भागि पूज गुर चरना ॥

Vadai bhaagi pooj gur charanaa ||

By great good fortune, I worship the Guru's feet.

ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਪਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨਾ ॥

सगल तिआगि पाई प्रभ सरना ॥

Sagal tiaagi paaee prbh saranaa ||

Forsaking everything, I have obtained God's Sanctuary.

ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਇਆ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥

गुरु नानक जा कउ भइआ दइआला ॥

Guru naanak jaa kau bhaiaa daiaalaa ||

That humble being, O Nanak, unto whom the Guru grants His Mercy,

ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੦੦॥

सो जनु होआ सदा निहाला ॥४॥६॥१००॥

So janu hoaa sadaa nihaalaa ||4||6||100||

that person is forever enraptured. ||4||6||100||

Aasaa mahalaa 5 ||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੀਆ ਭੇਜਿ ॥

सतिगुर साचै दीआ भेजि ॥

Satigur saachai deeaa bheji ||

The True Guru has truly given a child.

ਚਿਰੁ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ॥

चिरु जीवनु उपजिआ संजोगि ॥

Chiru jeevanu upajiaa sanjjogi ||

The long-lived one has been born to this destiny.

ਉਦਰੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਆਇ ਕੀਆ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥

उदरै माहि आइ कीआ निवासु ॥

Udarai maahi aai keeaa nivaasu ||

He came to acquire a home in the womb,

ਮਾਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

माता कै मनि बहुतु बिगासु ॥१॥

Maataa kai mani bahutu bigaasu ||1||

And his mother's heart is so very glad. ||1||

ਜੰਮਿਆ ਪੂਤੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕਾ ॥

जमिआ पूतु भगतु गोविंद का ॥

Jammiaa pootu bhagatu govindd kaa ||

A son is born - a devotee of the Lord of the Universe.

ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰ ਕਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

प्रगटिआ सभ महि लिखिआ धुर का ॥ रहाउ ॥

Prgatiaa sabh mahi likhiaa dhur kaa || rahaau ||

This pre-ordained destiny has been revealed to all. || Pause ||

ਦਸੀ ਮਾਸੀ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਬਾਲਕ ਜਨਮੁ ਲੀਆ ॥

दसी मासी हुकमि बालक जनमु लीआ ॥

Dasee maasee hukami baalak janamu leeaa ||

In the tenth month, by the Lord's Order, the baby has been born.

ਮਿਟਿਆ ਸੋਗੁ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਥੀਆ ॥

मिटिआ सोगु महा अनंदु थीआ ॥

Mitiaa sogu mahaa ananddu theeaa ||

Sorrow is dispelled, and great joy has ensued.

ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸਖੀ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

गुरबाणी सखी अनंदु गावै ॥

Gurabaa(nn)ee sakhee ananddu gaavai ||

The companions blissfully sing the songs of the Guru's Bani.

ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

साचे साहिब कै मनि भावै ॥२॥

Saache saahib kai mani bhaavai ||2||

This is pleasing to the Lord Master. ||2||

ਵਧੀ ਵੇਲਿ ਬਹੁ ਪੀੜੀ ਚਾਲੀ ॥

वधी वेलि बहु पीड़ी चाली ॥

Vadhee veli bahu pee(rr)ee chaalee ||

The vine has grown, and shall last for many generations.

ਧਰਮ ਕਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਬਹਾਲੀ ॥

धरम कला हरि बंधि बहाली ॥

Dharam kalaa hari banddhi bahaalee ||

The Power of the Dharma has been firmly established by the Lord.

ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ॥

मन चिंदिआ सतिगुरू दिवाइआ ॥

Man chinddiaa satiguroo divaaiaa ||

That which my mind wishes for, the True Guru has granted.

ਭਏ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

भए अचिंत एक लिव लाइआ ॥३॥

Bhae achintt ek liv laaiaa ||3||

I have become carefree, and I fix my attention on the One Lord. ||3||

ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣੁ ॥

जिउ बालकु पिता ऊपरि करे बहु माणु ॥

Jiu baalaku pitaa upari kare bahu maa(nn)u ||

As the child places so much faith in his father,

ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਬੋਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣਿ ॥

बुलाइआ बोलै गुर कै भाणि ॥

Bulaaiaa bolai gur kai bhaa(nn)i ||

I speak as it pleases the Guru to have me speak.

ਗੁਝੀ ਛੰਨੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਾਤ ॥

गुझी छंनी नाही बात ॥

Gujhee chhannee naahee baat ||

This is not a hidden secret;

ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੦੧॥

गुरु नानकु तुठा कीनी दाति ॥४॥७॥१०१॥

Guru naanaku tuthaa keenee daati ||4||7||101||

Guru Nanak, greatly pleased, has bestowed this gift. ||4||7||101||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਹਾਥ ॥

गुर पूरे राखिआ दे हाथ ॥

Gur poore raakhiaa de haath ||

Giving His Hand, the Perfect Guru has protected the child.

ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥੧॥

प्रगटु भइआ जन का परतापु ॥१॥

Prgatu bhaiaa jan kaa parataapu ||1||

The glory of His servant has become manifest. ||1||

ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਜਪੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥

गुरु गुरु जपी गुरू गुरु धिआई ॥

Guru guru japee guroo guru dhiaaee ||

I contemplate the Guru, the Guru; I meditate on the Guru, the Guru.

ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਹਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जीअ की अरदासि गुरू पहि पाई ॥ रहाउ ॥

Jeea kee aradaasi guroo pahi paaee || rahaau ||

I offer my heart-felt prayer to the Guru, and it is answered. || Pause ||

ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

सरनि परे साचे गुरदेव ॥

Sarani pare saache guradev ||

I have taken to the Sanctuary of the True Divine Guru.

ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵ ॥੨॥

पूरन होई सेवक सेव ॥२॥

Pooran hoee sevak sev ||2||

The service of His servant has been fulfilled. ||2||

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥

जीउ पिंडु जोबनु राखै प्रान ॥

Jeeu pinddu jobanu raakhai praan ||

He has preserved my soul, body, youth and breath of life.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ॥੩॥੮॥੧੦੨॥

कहु नानक गुर कउ कुरबान ॥३॥८॥१०२॥

Kahu naanak gur kau kurabaan ||3||8||102||

Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to the Guru. ||3||8||102||

Aasaa, Ninth House, Fifth Mehl:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਚਿਤਵਉ ਚਿਤਵਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਉ ਆਗੈ ਭਾਵਉ ਕਿ ਨ ਭਾਵਉ ॥

चितवउ चितवि सरब सुख पावउ आगै भावउ कि न भावउ ॥

Chitavau chitavi sarab sukh paavau aagai bhaavau ki na bhaavau ||

Contemplating Him within my consciousness, I obtain total peace; but hereafter, will I be pleasing to Him or not?

ਏਕੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਸਗਲ ਹੈ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਦੂਸਰ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਵਉ ॥੧॥

एकु दातारु सगल है जाचिक दूसर कै पहि जावउ ॥१॥

Eku daataaru sagal hai jaachik doosar kai pahi jaavau ||1||

There is only One Giver; all others are beggars. Who else can we turn to? ||1||

ਹਉ ਮਾਗਉ ਆਨ ਲਜਾਵਉ ॥

हउ मागउ आन लजावउ ॥

Hau maagau aan lajaavau ||

When I beg from others, I am ashamed.

ਸਗਲ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਲਾਵਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सगल छत्रपति एको ठाकुरु कउनु समसरि लावउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sagal chhatrpati eko thaakuru kaunu samasari laavau ||1|| rahaau ||

The One Lord Master is the Supreme King of all; who else is equal to Him? ||1|| Pause ||

ਊਠਉ ਬੈਸਉ ਰਹਿ ਭਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਖੋਜਾਵਉ ॥

ऊठउ बैसउ रहि भि न साकउ दरसनु खोजि खोजावउ ॥

Uthau baisau rahi bhi na saakau darasanu khoji khojaavau ||

Standing up and sitting down, I cannot live without Him. I search and search for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਸਨਕ ਸਨੰਦਨ ਸਨਾਤਨ ਸਨਤਕੁਮਾਰ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਦੁਲਭਾਵਉ ॥੨॥

ब्रहमादिक सनकादिक सनक सनंदन सनातन सनतकुमार तिन्ह कउ महलु दुलभावउ ॥२॥

Brhamaadik sanakaadik sanak sananddan sanaatan sanatakumaar tinh kau mahalu dulabhaavau ||2||

Even Brahma and the sages Sanak, Sanandan, Sanaatan and Sanat Kumar, find it difficult to obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||2||

ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਆਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਰੈ ਨ ਪਾਵਉ ॥

अगम अगम आगाधि बोध कीमति परै न पावउ ॥

Agam agam aagaadhi bodh keemati parai na paavau ||

He is unapproachable and unfathomable; His wisdom is deep and profound; His value cannot be appraised.

ਤਾਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥੩॥

ताकी सरणि सति पुरख की सतिगुरु पुरखु धिआवउ ॥३॥

Taakee sara(nn)i sati purakh kee satiguru purakhu dhiaavau ||3||

I have taken to the Sanctuary of the True Lord, the Primal Being, and I meditate on the True Guru. ||3||

ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਾਟਿਓ ਬੰਧੁ ਗਰਾਵਉ ॥

भइओ क्रिपालु दइआलु प्रभु ठाकुरु काटिओ बंधु गरावउ ॥

Bhaio kripaalu daiaalu prbhu thaakuru kaatio banddhu garaavau ||

God, the Lord Master, has become kind and compassionate; He has cut the noose of death away from my neck.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਉ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਉ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੧॥

कहु नानक जउ साधसंगु पाइओ तउ फिरि जनमि न आवउ ॥४॥१॥१२१॥

Kahu naanak jau saadhasanggu paaio tau phiri janami na aavau ||4||1||121||

Says Nanak, now that I have obtained the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I shall not have to be reincarnated again. ||4||1||121||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਜਾਗਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥

अंतरि गावउ बाहरि गावउ गावउ जागि सवारी ॥

Anttari gaavau baahari gaavau gaavau jaagi savaaree ||

Inwardly, I sing His Praises, and outwardly, I sing His Praises; I sing His Praises while awake and asleep.

ਸੰਗਿ ਚਲਨ ਕਉ ਤੋਸਾ ਦੀਨੑਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥

संगि चलन कउ तोसा दीन्हा गोबिंद नाम के बिउहारी ॥१॥

Sanggi chalan kau tosaa deenhaa gobindd naam ke biuhaaree ||1||

I am a trader in the Name of the Lord of the Universe; He has given it to me as my supplies, to carry with me. ||1||

ਅਵਰ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ॥

अवर बिसारी बिसारी ॥

Avar bisaaree bisaaree ||

I have forgotten and forsaken other things.

ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਦੀਓ ਮੈ ਏਹੋ ਆਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

नाम दानु गुरि पूरै दीओ मै एहो आधारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Naam daanu guri poorai deeo mai eho aadhaaree ||1|| rahaau ||

The Perfect Guru has given me the Gift of the Naam; this alone is my Support. ||1|| Pause ||

ਦੂਖਨਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਸੁਖਿ ਭੀ ਗਾਵਉ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਿ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥

दूखनि गावउ सुखि भी गावउ मारगि पंथि सम्हारी ॥

Dookhani gaavau sukhi bhee gaavau maaragi pantthi samhaaree ||

I sing His Praises while suffering, and I sing His Praises while I am at peace as well. I contemplate Him while I walk along the Path.

ਨਾਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਆ ਮੋਰੀ ਤਿਸਾ ਬੁਝਾਰੀ ॥੨॥

नाम द्रिड़ु गुरि मन महि दीआ मोरी तिसा बुझारी ॥२॥

Naam dri(rr)u guri man mahi deeaa moree tisaa bujhaaree ||2||

The Guru has implanted the Naam within my mind, and my thirst has been quenched. ||2||

ਦਿਨੁ ਭੀ ਗਾਵਉ ਰੈਨੀ ਗਾਵਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਰਸਨਾਰੀ ॥

दिनु भी गावउ रैनी गावउ गावउ सासि सासि रसनारी ॥

Dinu bhee gaavau rainee gaavau gaavau saasi saasi rasanaaree ||

I sing His Praises during the day, and I sing His Praises during the night; I sing them with each and every breath.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਤ ਸੰਗਾਰੀ ॥੩॥

सतसंगति महि बिसासु होइ हरि जीवत मरत संगारी ॥३॥

Satasanggati mahi bisaasu hoi hari jeevat marat sanggaaree ||3||

In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, this faith is established, that the Lord is with us, in life and in death. ||3||

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਵਉ ਸੰਤ ਰੇਨ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

जन नानक कउ इहु दानु देहु प्रभ पावउ संत रेन उरि धारी ॥

Jan naanak kau ihu daanu dehu prbh paavau santt ren uri dhaaree ||

Bless servant Nanak with this gift, O God, that he may obtain, and enshrine in his heart, the dust of the feet of the Saints.

ਸ੍ਰਵਨੀ ਕਥਾ ਨੈਨ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਉ ਮਸਤਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੨੨॥

स्रवनी कथा नैन दरसु पेखउ मसतकु गुर चरनारी ॥४॥२॥१२२॥

Srvanee kathaa nain darasu pekhau masataku gur charanaaree ||4||2||122||

Hear the Lord's Sermon with your ears, and behold the Blessed Vision of His Darshan with your eyes; place your forehead upon the Guru's Feet. ||4||2||122||

ਆਸਾ ਘਰੁ ੧੦ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

आसा घरु १० महला ५ ॥

Aasaa gharu 10 mahalaa 5 ||

Aasaa, Tenth House, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਤੇ ਪਾਹੁਨ ਦੋ ਦਾਹਾ ॥

जिस नो तूं असथिरु करि मानहि ते पाहुन दो दाहा ॥

Jis no toonn asathiru kari maanahi te paahun do daahaa ||

That which you believe to be permanent, is a guest here for only a few days.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਅਸਨਾਹਾ ॥੧॥

पुत्र कलत्र ग्रिह सगल समग्री सभ मिथिआ असनाहा ॥१॥

Putr kalatr grih sagal samagree sabh mithiaa asanaahaa ||1||

Children, wives, homes, and all possessions - attachment to all of these is false. ||1||

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਹੈ ਹਾ ਹਾ ॥

रे मन किआ करहि है हा हा ॥

Re man kiaa karahi hai haa haa ||

O mind, why do you burst out laughing?

ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨੁ ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

द्रिसटि देखु जैसे हरिचंदउरी इकु राम भजनु लै लाहा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Drisati dekhu jaise harichanddauree iku raam bhajanu lai laahaa ||1|| rahaau ||

See with your eyes, that these things are only mirages. So earn the profit of meditation on the One Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਸਤਰ ਦੇਹ ਓਢਾਨੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੋਇ ਚਾਰਿ ਭੋਰਾਹਾ ॥

जैसे बसतर देह ओढाने दिन दोइ चारि भोराहा ॥

Jaise basatar deh odhaane din doi chaari bhoraahaa ||

It is like the clothes which you wear on your body - they wear off in a few days.

ਭੀਤਿ ਊਪਰੇ ਕੇਤਕੁ ਧਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਿ ਓਰਕੋ ਆਹਾ ॥੨॥

भीति ऊपरे केतकु धाईऐ अंति ओरको आहा ॥२॥

Bheeti upare ketaku dhaaeeai antti orako aahaa ||2||

How long can you run upon a wall? Ultimately, you come to its end. ||2||

ਜੈਸੇ ਅੰਭ ਕੁੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਪਰਤ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਹਾ ॥

जैसे अंभ कुंड करि राखिओ परत सिंधु गलि जाहा ॥

Jaise ambbh kundd kari raakhio parat sinddhu gali jaahaa ||

It is like salt, preserved in its container; when it is put into water, it dissolves.

ਆਵਗਿ ਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਚਸਾਹਾ ॥੩॥

आवगि आगिआ पारब्रहम की उठि जासी मुहत चसाहा ॥३॥

Aavagi aagiaa paarabrham kee uthi jaasee muhat chasaahaa ||3||

When the Order of the Supreme Lord God comes, the soul arises, and departs in an instant. ||3||

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਲੈਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ॥

रे मन लेखै चालहि लेखै बैसहि लेखै लैदा साहा ॥

Re man lekhai chaalahi lekhai baisahi lekhai laidaa saahaa ||

O mind, your steps are numbered, your moments spent sitting are numbered, and the breaths you are to take are numbered.

ਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਓਟਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨੩॥

सदा कीरति करि नानक हरि की उबरे सतिगुर चरण ओटाहा ॥४॥१॥१२३॥

Sadaa keerati kari naanak hari kee ubare satigur chara(nn) otaahaa ||4||1||123||

Sing forever the Praises of the Lord, O Nanak, and you shall be saved, under the Shelter of the Feet of the True Guru. ||4||1||123||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਅਪੁਸਟ ਬਾਤ ਤੇ ਭਈ ਸੀਧਰੀ ਦੂਤ ਦੁਸਟ ਸਜਨਈ ॥

अपुसट बात ते भई सीधरी दूत दुसट सजनई ॥

Apusat baat te bhaee seedharee doot dusat sajanaee ||

That which was upside-down has been set upright; the deadly enemies and adversaries have become friends.

ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਓ ਮਲੀਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਹਛਨਈ ॥੧॥

अंधकार महि रतनु प्रगासिओ मलीन बुधि हछनई ॥१॥

Anddhakaar mahi ratanu prgaasio maleen budhi hachhanaee ||1||

In the darkness, the jewel shines forth, and the impure understanding has become pure. ||1||

ਜਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਈ ॥

जउ किरपा गोबिंद भई ॥

Jau kirapaa gobindd bhaee ||

When the Lord of the Universe became merciful,

ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सुख स्मपति हरि नाम फल पाए सतिगुर मिलई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sukh samppati hari naam phal paae satigur milaee ||1|| rahaau ||

I found peace, wealth and the fruit of the Lord's Name; I have met the True Guru. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੋਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਈ ॥

मोहि किरपन कउ कोइ न जानत सगल भवन प्रगटई ॥

Mohi kirapan kau koi na jaanat sagal bhavan prgataee ||

No one knew me, the miserable miser, but now, I have become famous all over the world.

ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਠਨੋ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਹੁਣਿ ਸਗਲ ਚਰਣ ਸੇਵਈ ॥੨॥

संगि बैठनो कही न पावत हुणि सगल चरण सेवई ॥२॥

Sanggi baithano kahee na paavat hu(nn)i sagal chara(nn) sevaee ||2||

Before, no one would even sit with me, but now, all worship my feet. ||2||

ਆਢ ਆਢ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਤ ਢੂੰਢਤੇ ਮਨ ਸਗਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੁਝਿ ਗਈ ॥

आढ आढ कउ फिरत ढूंढते मन सगल त्रिसन बुझि गई ॥

Aadh aadh kau phirat dhoonddhate man sagal trisan bujhi gaee ||

I used to wander in search of pennies, but now, all the desires of my mind are satisfied.

ਏਕੁ ਬੋਲੁ ਭੀ ਖਵਤੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੀਤਲਈ ॥੩॥

एकु बोलु भी खवतो नाही साधसंगति सीतलई ॥३॥

Eku bolu bhee khavato naahee saadhasanggati seetalaee ||3||

I could not bear even one criticism, but now, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I am cooled and soothed. ||3||

ਏਕ ਜੀਹ ਗੁਣ ਕਵਨ ਵਖਾਨੈ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮਈ ॥

एक जीह गुण कवन वखानै अगम अगम अगमई ॥

Ek jeeh gu(nn) kavan vakhaanai agam agam agamaee ||

What Glorious Virtues of the Inaccessible, Unfathomable, Profound Lord can one mere tongue describe?

ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਕੋ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੨੪॥

दासु दास दास को करीअहु जन नानक हरि सरणई ॥४॥२॥१२४॥

Daasu daas daas ko kareeahu jan naanak hari sara(nn)aee ||4||2||124||

Please, make me the slave of the slave of Your slaves; servant Nanak seeks the Lord's Sanctuary. ||4||2||124||

ਰੇ ਮੂੜੇ ਲਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੂੰ ਢੀਲਾ ਢੀਲਾ ਤੋਟੇ ਕਉ ਬੇਗਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥

रे मूड़े लाहे कउ तूं ढीला ढीला तोटे कउ बेगि धाइआ ॥

Re moo(rr)e laahe kau toonn dheelaa dheelaa tote kau begi dhaaiaa ||

O fool, you are so slow to earn your profits, and so quick to run up losses.

ਸਸਤ ਵਖਰੁ ਤੂੰ ਘਿੰਨਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਪੀ ਬਾਧਾ ਰੇਨਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

ससत वखरु तूं घिंनहि नाही पापी बाधा रेनाइआ ॥१॥

Sasat vakharu toonn ghinnahi naahee paapee baadhaa renaaiaa ||1||

You do not purchase the inexpensive merchandise; O sinner, you are tied to your debts. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸਾਇਆ ॥

सतिगुर तेरी आसाइआ ॥

Satigur teree aasaaiaa ||

O True Guru, You are my only hope.

ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮੈ ਏਹਾ ਓਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

पतित पावनु तेरो नामु पारब्रहम मै एहा ओटाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Patit paavanu tero naamu paarabrham mai ehaa otaaiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Your Name is the Purifier of sinners, O Supreme Lord God; You are my only Shelter. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗੰਧਣ ਵੈਣ ਸੁਣਹਿ ਉਰਝਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਤ ਅਲਕਾਇਆ ॥

गंधण वैण सुणहि उरझावहि नामु लैत अलकाइआ ॥

Ganddha(nn) vai(nn) su(nn)ahi urajhaavahi naamu lait alakaaiaa ||

Listening to the evil talk, you are caught up in it, but you are hesitant to chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਿੰਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਕਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਮਾਹਿਓ ਬੂਝੀ ਉਲਟਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

निंद चिंद कउ बहुतु उमाहिओ बूझी उलटाइआ ॥२॥

Nindd chindd kau bahutu umaahio boojhee ulataaiaa ||2||

You are delighted by slanderous talk; your understanding is corrupt. ||2||

ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਰ ਤਨ ਪਰ ਤੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਅਖਾਧਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਹਰਕਾਇਆ ॥

पर धन पर तन पर ती निंदा अखाधि खाहि हरकाइआ ॥

Par dhan par tan par tee ninddaa akhaadhi khaahi harakaaiaa ||

Others' wealth, others' wives and the slander of others - eating the uneatable, you have gone crazy.

ਸਾਚ ਧਰਮ ਸਿਉ ਰੁਚਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਤਿ ਸੁਨਤ ਛੋਹਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

साच धरम सिउ रुचि नही आवै सति सुनत छोहाइआ ॥३॥

Saach dharam siu ruchi nahee aavai sati sunat chhohaaiaa ||3||

You have not enshrined love for the True Faith of Dharma; hearing the Truth, you are enraged. ||3||

ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਗਤ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥

दीन दइआल क्रिपाल प्रभ ठाकुर भगत टेक हरि नाइआ ॥

Deen daiaal kripaal prbh thaakur bhagat tek hari naaiaa ||

O God, Merciful to the meek, Compassionate Lord Master, Your Name is the Support of Your devotees.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਹਿ ਸਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇਓ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਅਪਨਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨੫॥

नानक आहि सरण प्रभ आइओ राखु लाज अपनाइआ ॥४॥३॥१२५॥

Naanak aahi sara(nn) prbh aaio raakhu laaj apanaaiaa ||4||3||125||

Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary; O God, make him Your Own, and preserve his honor. ||4||3||125||

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਏ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ॥

मिथिआ संगि संगि लपटाए मोह माइआ करि बाधे ॥

Mithiaa sanggi sanggi lapataae moh maaiaa kari baadhe ||

: They are attached to falsehood; clinging to the transitory, they are trapped in emotional attachment to Maya.

ਜਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਸੋ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਭਏ ਆਂਧੇ ॥੧॥

जह जानो सो चीति न आवै अह्मबुधि भए आंधे ॥१॥

Jah jaano so cheeti na aavai ahambbudhi bhae aandhe ||1||

Wherever they go, they do not think of the Lord; they are blinded by intellectual egotism. ||1||

ਮਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਅਰਾਧੇ ॥

मन बैरागी किउ न अराधे ॥

Man bairaagee kiu na araadhe ||

O mind, O renunciate, why don't you adore Him?

ਕਾਚ ਕੋਠਰੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਸਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਖੈ ਕੀ ਬਿਆਧੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

काच कोठरी माहि तूं बसता संगि सगल बिखै की बिआधे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kaach kotharee maahi toonn basataa sanggi sagal bikhai kee biaadhe ||1|| rahaau ||

You dwell in that flimsy chamber, with all the sins of corruption. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਪਲੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ਅਰਜਾਧੇ ॥

मेरी मेरी करत दिनु रैनि बिहावै पलु खिनु छीजै अरजाधे ॥

Meree meree karat dinu raini bihaavai palu khinu chheejai arajaadhe ||

Crying out, ""Mine, mine"", your days and nights pass away; moment by moment, your life is running out.

ਜੈਸੇ ਮੀਠੈ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋਭਾਏ ਝੂਠ ਧੰਧਿ ਦੁਰਗਾਧੇ ॥੨॥

जैसे मीठै सादि लोभाए झूठ धंधि दुरगाधे ॥२॥

Jaise meethai saadi lobhaae jhooth dhanddhi duragaadhe ||2||

The sweet flavors tempt you, and you are occupied by your false and filthy business. ||2||

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਇਹ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਰਸਿ ਲਪਟਾਧੇ ॥

काम क्रोध अरु लोभ मोह इह इंद्री रसि लपटाधे ॥

Kaam krodh aru lobh moh ih ianddree rasi lapataadhe ||

Your senses are beguiled by sensual pleasures of sex, by anger, greed and emotional attachment.

ਦੀਈ ਭਵਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਨਮਾਧੇ ॥੩॥

दीई भवारी पुरखि बिधातै बहुरि बहुरि जनमाधे ॥३॥

Deeee bhavaaree purakhi bidhaatai bahuri bahuri janamaadhe ||3||

The All-powerful Architect of Destiny has ordained that you shall be reincarnated over and over again. ||3||

ਜਉ ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਤਉ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਲਾਧੇ ॥

जउ भइओ क्रिपालु दीन दुख भंजनु तउ गुर मिलि सभ सुख लाधे ॥

Jau bhaio kripaalu deen dukh bhanjjanu tau gur mili sabh sukh laadhe ||

When the Destroyer of the pains of the poor becomes merciful, then, as Gurmukh, you shall find absolute peace.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਾਢੀ ਸਗਲ ਉਪਾਧੇ ॥੪॥

कहु नानक दिनु रैनि धिआवउ मारि काढी सगल उपाधे ॥४॥

Kahu naanak dinu raini dhiaavau maari kaadhee sagal upaadhe ||4||

Says Nanak, meditate on the Lord, day and night, and all your sickness shall be banished. ||4||

ਇਉ ਜਪਿਓ ਭਾਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥

इउ जपिओ भाई पुरखु बिधाते ॥

Iu japio bhaaee purakhu bidhaate ||

Meditate in this way, O Siblings of Destiny, on the Lord, the Architect of Destiny.

ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨੬॥

भइओ क्रिपालु दीन दुख भंजनु जनम मरण दुख लाथे ॥१॥ रहाउ दूजा ॥४॥४॥१२६॥

Bhaio kripaalu deen dukh bhanjjanu janam mara(nn) dukh laathe ||1|| rahaau doojaa ||4||4||126||

The Destroyer of the pains of the poor has become merciful; He has removed the pains of birth and death. ||1|| Second Pause ||4||4||126||

Aasaa mahalaa 5 ||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਨਿਮਖ ਕਾਮ ਸੁਆਦ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਦਿਨਸ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥

निमख काम सुआद कारणि कोटि दिनस दुखु पावहि ॥

Nimakh kaam suaad kaara(nn)i koti dinas dukhu paavahi ||

For a moment of sexual pleasure, you shall suffer in pain for millions of days.

ਘਰੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥

घरी मुहत रंग माणहि फिरि बहुरि बहुरि पछुतावहि ॥१॥

Gharee muhat rangg maa(nn)ahi phiri bahuri bahuri pachhutaavahi ||1||

For an instant, you may savor pleasure, but afterwards, you shall regret it, again and again. ||1||

ਅੰਧੇ ਚੇਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥

अंधे चेति हरि हरि राइआ ॥

Anddhe cheti hari hari raaiaa ||

O blind man, meditate on the Lord, the Lord, your King.

ਤੇਰਾ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तेरा सो दिनु नेड़ै आइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Teraa so dinu ne(rr)ai aaiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Your day is drawing near. ||1|| Pause ||

ਪਲਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲੋ ਆਕ ਨੀਮ ਕੋ ਤੂੰਮਰੁ ॥

पलक द्रिसटि देखि भूलो आक नीम को तूमरु ॥

Palak drisati dekhi bhoolo aak neem ko toommmaru ||

You are deceived, beholding with your eyes, the bitter melon and swallow-wort.

ਜੈਸਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਸਿਉ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ॥੨॥

जैसा संगु बिसीअर सिउ है रे तैसो ही इहु पर ग्रिहु ॥२॥

Jaisaa sanggu biseear siu hai re taiso hee ihu par grihu ||2||

But, like the companionship of a poisonous snake, so is the desire for another's spouse. ||2||

ਬੈਰੀ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਤਾ ਬਸਤੁ ਰਹੀ ਅਮਾਨਾ ॥

बैरी कारणि पाप करता बसतु रही अमाना ॥

Bairee kaara(nn)i paap karataa basatu rahee amaanaa ||

For the sake of your enemy, you commit sins, while you neglect the reality of your faith.

ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਬੈਰਾਨਾ ॥੩॥

छोडि जाहि तिन ही सिउ संगी साजन सिउ बैराना ॥३॥

Chhodi jaahi tin hee siu sanggee saajan siu bairaanaa ||3||

Your friendship is with those who abandon you, and you are angry with your friends. ||3||

ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਇਹੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਓ ਸੋ ਉਬਰਿਓ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥

सगल संसारु इहै बिधि बिआपिओ सो उबरिओ जिसु गुरु पूरा ॥

Sagal sanssaaru ihai bidhi biaapio so ubario jisu guru pooraa ||

The entire world is entangled in this way; he alone is saved, who has the Perfect Guru.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਭਏ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੨੭॥

कहु नानक भव सागरु तरिओ भए पुनीत सरीरा ॥४॥५॥१२७॥

Kahu naanak bhav saagaru tario bhae puneet sareeraa ||4||5||127||

Says Nanak, I have crossed over the terrifying world-ocean; my body has become sanctified. ||4||5||127||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl Dupadas:

ਲੂਕਿ ਕਮਾਨੋ ਸੋਈ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਮੁਕਰਾਨੀ ॥

लूकि कमानो सोई तुम्ह पेखिओ मूड़ मुगध मुकरानी ॥

Looki kamaano soee tumh pekhio moo(rr) mugadh mukaraanee ||

O Lord, You behold whatever we do in secrecy; the fool may stubbornly deny it.

ਆਪ ਕਮਾਨੇ ਕਉ ਲੇ ਬਾਂਧੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥

आप कमाने कउ ले बांधे फिरि पाछै पछुतानी ॥१॥

Aap kamaane kau le baandhe phiri paachhai pachhutaanee ||1||

By his own actions, he is tied down, and in the end, he regrets and repents. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਨੀ ॥

प्रभ मेरे सभ बिधि आगै जानी ॥

Prbh mere sabh bidhi aagai jaanee ||

My God knows, ahead of time, all things.

ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੇ ਮੂਸੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਤ ਪਰਦਾ ਪਾਛੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਮਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

भ्रम के मूसे तूं राखत परदा पाछै जीअ की मानी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Bhrm ke moose toonn raakhat paradaa paachhai jeea kee maanee ||1|| rahaau ||

Deceived by doubt, you may hide your actions, but in the end, you shall have to confess the secrets of your mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥

जितु जितु लाए तितु तितु लागे किआ को करै परानी ॥

Jitu jitu laae titu titu laage kiaa ko karai paraanee ||

Whatever they are attached to, they remain joined to that. What can any mere mortal do?

ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੨੮॥

बखसि लैहु पारब्रहम सुआमी नानक सद कुरबानी ॥२॥६॥१२८॥

Bakhasi laihu paarabrham suaamee naanak sad kurabaanee ||2||6||128||

Please, forgive me, O Supreme Lord Master. Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||6||128||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥

अपुने सेवक की आपे राखै आपे नामु जपावै ॥

Apune sevak kee aape raakhai aape naamu japaavai ||

He Himself preserves His servants; He causes them to chant His Name.

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਕਾਜ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਤਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

जह जह काज किरति सेवक की तहा तहा उठि धावै ॥१॥

Jah jah kaaj kirati sevak kee tahaa tahaa uthi dhaavai ||1||

Wherever the business and affairs of His servants are, there the Lord hurries to be. ||1||

ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਨਿਕਟੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥

सेवक कउ निकटी होइ दिखावै ॥

Sevak kau nikatee hoi dikhaavai ||

The Lord appears near at hand to His servant.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਹੈ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਹੋਇ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जो जो कहै ठाकुर पहि सेवकु ततकाल होइ आवै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jo jo kahai thaakur pahi sevaku tatakaal hoi aavai ||1|| rahaau ||

Whatever the servant asks of his Lord and Master, immediately comes to pass. ||1|| Pause ||

ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

तिसु सेवक कै हउ बलिहारी जो अपने प्रभ भावै ॥

Tisu sevak kai hau balihaaree jo apane prbh bhaavai ||

I am a sacrifice to that servant, who is pleasing to his God.

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੋਇ ਸੁਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਸਣਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੨੯॥

तिस की सोइ सुणी मनु हरिआ तिसु नानक परसणि आवै ॥२॥७॥१२९॥

Tis kee soi su(nn)ee manu hariaa tisu naanak parasa(nn)i aavai ||2||7||129||

Hearing of his glory, the mind is rejuvenated; Nanak comes to touch his feet. ||2||7||129||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਨਟੂਆ ਭੇਖ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੈਸਾ ਹੈ ਓਹੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਰੇ ॥

नटूआ भेख दिखावै बहु बिधि जैसा है ओहु तैसा रे ॥

Natooaa bhekh dikhaavai bahu bidhi jaisaa hai ohu taisaa re ||

The actor displays himself in many disguises, but he remains just as he is.

ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸੁਖਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥

अनिक जोनि भ्रमिओ भ्रम भीतरि सुखहि नाही परवेसा रे ॥१॥

Anik joni bhrmio bhrm bheetari sukhahi naahee paravesaa re ||1||

The soul wanders through countless incarnations in doubt, but it does not come to dwell in peace. ||1||

ਸਾਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਨੀਤਾ ਰੇ ॥

साजन संत हमारे मीता बिनु हरि हरि आनीता रे ॥

Saajan santt hamaare meetaa binu hari hari aaneetaa re ||

O Saints, my friends and companions, without the Lord, Har, Har, you shall perish.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਇਹੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਜੀਤਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

साधसंगि मिलि हरि गुण गाए इहु जनमु पदारथु जीता रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saadhasanggi mili hari gu(nn) gaae ihu janamu padaarathu jeetaa re ||1|| rahaau ||

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and win this precious treasure of human life. ||1|| Pause ||

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਕੀਨੑੀ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਰੇ ॥

त्रै गुण माइआ ब्रहम की कीन्ही कहहु कवन बिधि तरीऐ रे ॥

Trai gu(nn) maaiaa brham kee keenhee kahahu kavan bidhi tareeai re ||

God has created Maya of the three qualities; tell me, how can it be crossed over?

ਘੂਮਨ ਘੇਰ ਅਗਾਹ ਗਾਖਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੨॥

घूमन घेर अगाह गाखरी गुर सबदी पारि उतरीऐ रे ॥२॥

Ghooman gher agaah gaakharee gur sabadee paari utareeai re ||2||

The whirlpool is awesome and unfathomable; only through the Word of the Guru's Shabad is one carried across. ||2||

ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਤਤੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥

खोजत खोजत खोजि बीचारिओ ततु नानक इहु जाना रे ॥

Khojat khojat khoji beechaario tatu naanak ihu jaanaa re ||

Searching and searching endlessly, seeking and deliberating, Nanak has realized the true essence of reality.

ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਨਿਰਮੋਲਕੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ਰੇ ॥੩॥੧॥੧੩੦॥

सिमरत नामु निधानु निरमोलकु मनु माणकु पतीआना रे ॥३॥१॥१३०॥

Simarat naamu nidhaanu niramolaku manu maa(nn)aku pateeaanaa re ||3||1||130||

Meditating on the invaluable treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the jewel of the mind is satisfied. ||3||1||130||

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਜੋ ਮਾਗਉ ਸੋ ਪਾਵਉ ਰੇ ॥

गुर परसादि मेरै मनि वसिआ जो मागउ सो पावउ रे ॥

Gur parasaadi merai mani vasiaa jo maagau so paavau re ||

By Guru's Grace, He dwells within my mind; whatever I ask for, I receive.

ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨਾ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਧਾਵਉ ਰੇ ॥੧॥

नाम रंगि इहु मनु त्रिपताना बहुरि न कतहूं धावउ रे ॥१॥

Naam ranggi ihu manu tripataanaa bahuri na katahoonn dhaavau re ||1||

This mind is satisfied with the Love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; it does not go out, anywhere, anymore. ||1||

ਹਮਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਾਵਉ ਰੇ ॥

हमरा ठाकुरु सभ ते ऊचा रैणि दिनसु तिसु गावउ रे ॥

Hamaraa thaakuru sabh te uchaa rai(nn)i dinasu tisu gaavau re ||

My Lord and Master is the highest of all; night and day, I sing the Glories of His Praises.

ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਨਹਾਰਾ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਡਰਾਵਉ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

खिन महि थापि उथापनहारा तिस ते तुझहि डरावउ रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Khin mahi thaapi uthaapanahaaraa tis te tujhahi daraavau re ||1|| rahaau ||

In an instant, He establishes and disestablishes; through Him, I frighten you. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਬ ਦੇਖਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਉ ਅਵਰਹਿ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਉ ਰੇ ॥

जब देखउ प्रभु अपुना सुआमी तउ अवरहि चीति न पावउ रे ॥

Jab dekhau prbhu apunaa suaamee tau avarahi cheeti na paavau re ||

When I behold my God, my Lord and Master, I do not pay any attention to any other.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਪਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਮੇਟਿ ਲਿਖਾਵਉ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੩੧॥

नानकु दासु प्रभि आपि पहिराइआ भ्रमु भउ मेटि लिखावउ रे ॥२॥२॥१३१॥

Naanaku daasu prbhi aapi pahiraaiaa bhrmu bhau meti likhaavau re ||2||2||131||

God Himself has adorned servant Nanak; his doubts and fears have been dispelled, and he writes the account of the Lord. ||2||2||131||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਚਾਰਿ ਬਰਨ ਚਉਹਾ ਕੇ ਮਰਦਨ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਤਲੀ ਰੇ ॥

चारि बरन चउहा के मरदन खटु दरसन कर तली रे ॥

Chaari baran chauhaa ke maradan khatu darasan kar talee re ||

The four castes and social classes, and the preachers with the six Shaastras on their finger-tips,

ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੁਘਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਸਿਆਨੇ ਪੰਚਹੁ ਹੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਛਲੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥

सुंदर सुघर सरूप सिआने पंचहु ही मोहि छली रे ॥१॥

Sunddar sughar saroop siaane pancchahu hee mohi chhalee re ||1||

The beautiful, the refined, the shapely and the wise - the five passions have enticed and beguiled them all. ||1||

ਜਿਨਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਪੰਚ ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਐਸੋ ਕਉਨੁ ਬਲੀ ਰੇ ॥

जिनि मिलि मारे पंच सूरबीर ऐसो कउनु बली रे ॥

Jini mili maare pancch soorabeer aiso kaunu balee re ||

Who has seized and conquered the five powerful fighters? Is there anyone strong enough?

ਜਿਨਿ ਪੰਚ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਗੁਦਾਰੇ ਸੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਇਹ ਕਲੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिनि पंच मारि बिदारि गुदारे सो पूरा इह कली रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jini pancch maari bidaari gudaare so pooraa ih kalee re ||1|| rahaau ||

He alone, who conquers and defeats the five demons, is perfect in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||1|| Pause ||

ਵਡੀ ਕੋਮ ਵਸਿ ਭਾਗਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੁਹਕਮ ਫਉਜ ਹਠਲੀ ਰੇ ॥

वडी कोम वसि भागहि नाही मुहकम फउज हठली रे ॥

Vadee kom vasi bhaagahi naahee muhakam phauj hathalee re ||

They are so awesome and great; they cannot be controlled, and they do not run away. Their army is mighty and unyielding.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਨਿਰਦਲਿਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਝਲੀ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੩੨॥

कहु नानक तिनि जनि निरदलिआ साधसंगति कै झली रे ॥२॥३॥१३२॥

Kahu naanak tini jani niradaliaa saadhasanggati kai jhalee re ||2||3||132||

Says Nanak, that humble being who is under the protection of the Saadh Sangat, crushes those terrible demons. ||2||3||132||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਨੀਕੀ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਊਤਮ ਆਨ ਸਗਲ ਰਸ ਫੀਕੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

नीकी जीअ की हरि कथा ऊतम आन सगल रस फीकी रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Neekee jeea kee hari kathaa utam aan sagal ras pheekee re ||1|| rahaau ||

The Sublime Sermon of the Lord is the best thing for the soul. All other tastes are insipid. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬਹੁ ਗੁਨਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਖਟੁ ਬੇਤੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਿਛੁ ਲਾਈਕੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥

बहु गुनि धुनि मुनि जन खटु बेते अवरु न किछु लाईकी रे ॥१॥

Bahu guni dhuni muni jan khatu bete avaru na kichhu laaeekee re ||1||

The worthy beings, heavenly singers, silent sages and the knowers of the six Shaastras proclaim that nothing else is worthy of consideration. ||1||

ਬਿਖਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਾਰੀ ਅਪਾਰੀ ਸਹਜਾਰੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੀਕੀ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੩੩॥

बिखारी निरारी अपारी सहजारी साधसंगि नानक पीकी रे ॥२॥४॥१३३॥

Bikhaaree niraaree apaaree sahajaaree saadhasanggi naanak peekee re ||2||4||133||

It is the cure for evil passions, unique, unequalled and peace-giving; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, drink it in. ||2||4||133||

ਹਮਾਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਟਾਰੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हमारी पिआरी अम्रित धारी गुरि निमख न मन ते टारी रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hamaaree piaaree ammmrit dhaaree guri nimakh na man te taaree re ||1|| rahaau ||

My Beloved has brought forth a river of nectar. The Guru has not held it back from my mind, even for an instant. ||1|| Pause ||

ਦਰਸਨ ਪਰਸਨ ਸਰਸਨ ਹਰਸਨ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗੀ ਕਰਤਾਰੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥

दरसन परसन सरसन हरसन रंगि रंगी करतारी रे ॥१॥

Darasan parasan sarasan harasan ranggi ranggee karataaree re ||1||

Beholding it, and touching it, I am sweetened and delighted. It is imbued with the Creator's Love. ||1||

ਖਿਨੁ ਰਮ ਗੁਰ ਗਮ ਹਰਿ ਦਮ ਨਹ ਜਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਰਿ ਹਾਰੀ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੩੪॥

खिनु रम गुर गम हरि दम नह जम हरि कंठि नानक उरि हारी रे ॥२॥५॥१३४॥

Khinu ram gur gam hari dam nah jam hari kantthi naanak uri haaree re ||2||5||134||

Chanting it even for a moment, I rise to the Guru; meditating on it, one is not trapped by the Messenger of Death. The Lord has placed it as a garland around Nanak's neck, and within his heart. ||2||5||134||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਨੀਕੀ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਨੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Neekee saadh sanggaanee || rahaau ||

The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is exalted and sublime. || Pause ||

ਪਹਰ ਮੂਰਤ ਪਲ ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਵਖਾਨੀ ॥੧॥

पहर मूरत पल गावत गावत गोविंद गोविंद वखानी ॥१॥

Pahar moorat pal gaavat gaavat govindd govindd vakhaanee ||1||

Every day, hour and moment, I continually sing and speak of Govind, Govind, the Lord of the Universe. ||1||

ਚਾਲਤ ਬੈਸਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਚਰਨ ਖਟਾਨੀ ॥੨॥

चालत बैसत सोवत हरि जसु मनि तनि चरन खटानी ॥२॥

Chaalat baisat sovat hari jasu mani tani charan khataanee ||2||

Walking, sitting and sleeping, I chant the Lord's Praises; I treasure His Feet in my mind and body. ||2||

ਹਂਉ ਹਉਰੋ ਤੂ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਗਉਰੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥੩॥੬॥੧੩੫॥

हंउ हउरो तू ठाकुरु गउरो नानक सरनि पछानी ॥३॥६॥१३५॥

Hnu hauro too thaakuru gauro naanak sarani pachhaanee ||3||6||135||

I am so small, and You are so great, O Lord and Master; Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary. ||3||6||135||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਆਨਪਾ ਭਜੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

तिआगि सगल सिआनपा भजु पारब्रहम निरंकारु ॥

Tiaagi sagal siaanapaa bhaju paarabrham nirankkaaru ||

Renounce all your cleverness and remember the Supreme, Formless Lord God.

ਏਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਦੀਸੈ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

एक साचे नाम बाझहु सगल दीसै छारु ॥१॥

Ek saache naam baajhahu sagal deesai chhaaru ||1||

Without the One True Name, everything appears as dust. ||1||

ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਦ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

सो प्रभु जाणीऐ सद संगि ॥

So prbhu jaa(nn)eeai sad sanggi ||

Know that God is always with you.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर प्रसादी बूझीऐ एक हरि कै रंगि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur prsaadee boojheeai ek hari kai ranggi ||1|| rahaau ||

By Guru's Grace, one understands, and is imbued with the Love of the One Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਰਣਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਏਕ ਕੇਰੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥

सरणि समरथ एक केरी दूजा नाही ठाउ ॥

Sara(nn)i samarath ek keree doojaa naahee thaau ||

Seek the Shelter of the One All-powerful Lord; there is no other place of rest.

ਮਹਾ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਲੰਘੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੨॥

महा भउजलु लंघीऐ सदा हरि गुण गाउ ॥२॥

Mahaa bhaujalu langgheeai sadaa hari gu(nn) gaau ||2||

The vast and terrifying world-ocean is crossed over, singing continually the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

जनम मरणु निवारीऐ दुखु न जम पुरि होइ ॥

Janam mara(nn)u nivaareeai dukhu na jam puri hoi ||

Birth and death are overcome, and one does not have to suffer in the City of Death.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

नामु निधानु सोई पाए क्रिपा करे प्रभु सोइ ॥३॥

Naamu nidhaanu soee paae kripaa kare prbhu soi ||3||

He alone obtains the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, unto whom God shows His Mercy. ||3||

ਏਕ ਟੇਕ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਏਕੋ ਏਕ ਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਜੋਰੁ ॥

एक टेक अधारु एको एक का मनि जोरु ॥

Ek tek adhaaru eko ek kaa mani joru ||

The One Lord is my Anchor and Support; the One Lord alone is the power of my mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਰੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੩੬॥

नानक जपीऐ मिलि साधसंगति हरि बिनु अवरु न होरु ॥४॥१॥१३६॥

Naanak japeeai mili saadhasanggati hari binu avaru na horu ||4||1||136||

O Nanak, joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate on Him; without the Lord, there is no other at all. ||4||1||136||

ਜੀਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਦੀਏ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ॥

जीउ मनु तनु प्रान प्रभ के दीए सभि रस भोग ॥

Jeeu manu tanu praan prbh ke deee sabhi ras bhog ||

The soul, the mind, the body and the breath of life belong to God. He has given all tastes and pleasures.

ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧਪ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਰਣਿ ਰਾਖਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥

दीन बंधप जीअ दाता सरणि राखण जोगु ॥१॥

Deen banddhap jeea daataa sara(nn)i raakha(nn) jogu ||1||

He is the Friend of the poor, the Giver of life, the Protector of those who seek His Sanctuary. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥

मेरे मन धिआइ हरि हरि नाउ ॥

Mere man dhiaai hari hari naau ||

O my mind, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਸਹਾਇ ਸੰਗੇ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हलति पलति सहाइ संगे एक सिउ लिव लाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Halati palati sahaai sangge ek siu liv laau ||1|| rahaau ||

Here and hereafter, He is our Helper and Companion; embrace love and affection for the One Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬੇਦ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਜਨ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਤਰਣ ਕਉ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

बेद सासत्र जन धिआवहि तरण कउ संसारु ॥

Bed saasatr jan dhiaavahi tara(nn) kau sanssaaru ||

They meditate on the Vedas and the Shaastras, to swim across the world-ocean.

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

करम धरम अनेक किरिआ सभ ऊपरि नामु अचारु ॥२॥

Karam dharam anek kiriaa sabh upari naamu achaaru ||2||

The many religious rituals, good deeds of karma and Dharmic worship - above all of these is the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇਵ ॥

कामु क्रोधु अहंकारु बिनसै मिलै सतिगुर देव ॥

Kaamu krodhu ahankkaaru binasai milai satigur dev ||

Sexual desire, anger, and egotism depart, meeting with the Divine True Guru.

ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੩॥

नामु द्रिड़ु करि भगति हरि की भली प्रभ की सेव ॥३॥

Naamu dri(rr)u kari bhagati hari kee bhalee prbh kee sev ||3||

Implant the Naam within, perform devotional worship to the Lord and serve God - this is good. ||3||

ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਦਇਆਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਮਾਣੁ ॥

चरण सरण दइआल तेरी तूं निमाणे माणु ॥

Chara(nn) sara(nn) daiaal teree toonn nimaa(nn)e maa(nn)u ||

I seek the Sanctuary of Your Feet, O Merciful Lord; You are the Honor of the dishonored.

ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੩੭॥

जीअ प्राण अधारु तेरा नानक का प्रभु ताणु ॥४॥२॥१३७॥

Jeea praa(nn) adhaaru teraa naanak kaa prbhu taa(nn)u ||4||2||137||

You are the Support of my soul, my breath of life; O God, You are Nanak's strength. ||4||2||137||

ਡੋਲਿ ਡੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗ ॥

डोलि डोलि महा दुखु पाइआ बिना साधू संग ॥

Doli doli mahaa dukhu paaiaa binaa saadhoo sangg ||

He wavers and falters, and suffers such great pain, without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਖਾਟਿ ਲਾਭੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਇਕ ਰੰਗ ॥੧॥

खाटि लाभु गोबिंद हरि रसु पारब्रहम इक रंग ॥१॥

Khaati laabhu gobindd hari rasu paarabrham ik rangg ||1||

The profit of the sublime essence of the Lord of the Universe is obtained, by the Love of the One Supreme Lord God. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਨੀਤਿ ॥

हरि को नामु जपीऐ नीति ॥

Hari ko naamu japeeai neeti ||

Chant continually the Name of the Lord.

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਅਵਰ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सासि सासि धिआइ सो प्रभु तिआगि अवर परीति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saasi saasi dhiaai so prbhu tiaagi avar pareeti ||1|| rahaau ||

With each and every breath, meditate on God, and renounce other love. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪਿ ॥

करण कारण समरथ सो प्रभु जीअ दाता आपि ॥

Kara(nn) kaara(nn) samarath so prbhu jeea daataa aapi ||

God is the Doer, the All-powerful Cause of causes; He Himself is the Giver of life.

ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੨॥

तिआगि सगल सिआणपा आठ पहर प्रभु जापि ॥२॥

Tiaagi sagal siaa(nn)apaa aath pahar prbhu jaapi ||2||

So renounce all your cleverness, and meditate on God, twenty-four hours a day. ||2||

ਮੀਤੁ ਸਖਾ ਸਹਾਇ ਸੰਗੀ ਊਚ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥

मीतु सखा सहाइ संगी ऊच अगम अपारु ॥

Meetu sakhaa sahaai sanggee uch agam apaaru ||

He is our best friend and companion, our help and support; He is lofty, inaccessible and infinite.

ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਬਸਾਇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

चरण कमल बसाइ हिरदै जीअ को आधारु ॥३॥

Chara(nn) kamal basaai hiradai jeea ko aadhaaru ||3||

Enshrine His Lotus Feet within your heart; He is the Support of the soul. ||3||

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਉ ॥

करि किरपा प्रभ पारब्रहम गुण तेरा जसु गाउ ॥

Kari kirapaa prbh paarabrham gu(nn) teraa jasu gaau ||

Show Your Mercy, O Supreme Lord God, that I may sing Your Glorious Praises.

ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੩੮॥

सरब सूख वडी वडिआई जपि जीवै नानकु नाउ ॥४॥३॥१३८॥

Sarab sookh vadee vadiaaee japi jeevai naanaku naau ||4||3||138||

Total peace, and the greatest greatness, O Nanak, are obtained by living to chant the Name of the Lord. ||4||3||138||

उदमु करउ करावहु ठाकुर पेखत साधू संगि ॥

Udamu karau karaavahu thaakur pekhat saadhoo sanggi ||

I make the effort, as You cause me to do, my Lord and Master, to behold You in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਰਾਵਹੁ ਰੰਗਨਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੧॥

हरि हरि नामु चरावहु रंगनि आपे ही प्रभ रंगि ॥१॥

Hari hari naamu charaavahu ranggani aape hee prbh ranggi ||1||

I am imbued with the color of the Love of the Lord, Har, Har; God Himself has colored me in His Love. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਜਾਪਿ ॥

मन महि राम नामा जापि ॥

Man mahi raam naamaa jaapi ||

I chant the Lord's Name within my mind.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਵਸਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਈ ਆਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

करि किरपा वसहु मेरै हिरदै होइ सहाई आपि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kari kirapaa vasahu merai hiradai hoi sahaaee aapi ||1|| rahaau ||

Bestow Your Mercy, and dwell within my heart; please, become my Helper. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੇਖਨ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥

सुणि सुणि नामु तुमारा प्रीतम प्रभु पेखन का चाउ ॥

Su(nn)i su(nn)i naamu tumaaraa preetam prbhu pekhan kaa chaau ||

Listening continually to Your Name, O Beloved God, I yearn to behold You.

ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਰਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਇਹੈ ਮਨੋਰਥੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੨॥

दइआ करहु किरम अपुने कउ इहै मनोरथु सुआउ ॥२॥

Daiaa karahu kiram apune kau ihai manorathu suaau ||2||

Please, be kind to me - I am just a worm. This is my object and purpose. ||2||

ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਮਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

तनु धनु तेरा तूं प्रभु मेरा हमरै वसि किछु नाहि ॥

Tanu dhanu teraa toonn prbhu meraa hamarai vasi kichhu naahi ||

My body and wealth are Yours; You are my God - nothing is in my power.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਣਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦੀਆ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੩॥

जिउ जिउ राखहि तिउ तिउ रहणा तेरा दीआ खाहि ॥३॥

Jiu jiu raakhahi tiu tiu raha(nn)aa teraa deeaa khaahi ||3||

As You keep me, so do I live; I eat what You give me. ||3||

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਮਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

जनम जनम के किलविख काटै मजनु हरि जन धूरि ॥

Janam janam ke kilavikh kaatai majanu hari jan dhoori ||

The sins of countless incarnations are washed away, by bathing in the dust of the Lord's humble servants.

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਉ ਨਾਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੩੯॥

भाइ भगति भरम भउ नासै हरि नानक सदा हजूरि ॥४॥४॥१३९॥

Bhaai bhagati bharam bhau naasai hari naanak sadaa hajoori ||4||4||139||

By loving devotional worship, doubt and fear depart; O Nanak, the Lord is Ever-present. ||4||4||139||

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥

अगम अगोचरु दरसु तेरा सो पाए जिसु मसतकि भागु ॥

Agam agocharu darasu teraa so paae jisu masataki bhaagu ||

The Blessed Vision of Your Darshan is unapproachable and incomprehensible; he alone obtains it, who has such good destiny recorded upon his forehead.

ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥

आपि क्रिपालि क्रिपा प्रभि धारी सतिगुरि बखसिआ हरि नामु ॥१॥

Aapi kripaali kripaa prbhi dhaaree satiguri bakhasiaa hari naamu ||1||

The Merciful Lord God has bestowed His Mercy, and the True Guru has granted the Lord's Name. ||1||

ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਉਧਾਰਿਆ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

कलिजुगु उधारिआ गुरदेव ॥

Kalijugu udhaariaa guradev ||

The Divine Guru is the Saving Grace in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga.

ਮਲ ਮੂਤ ਮੂੜ ਜਿ ਮੁਘਦ ਹੋਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਲਗੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मल मूत मूड़ जि मुघद होते सभि लगे तेरी सेव ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Mal moot moo(rr) ji mughad hote sabhi lage teree sev ||1|| rahaau ||

Even those fools and idiots, stained with feces and urine, have all taken to Your service. ||1|| Pause ||

ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਧਰਤਾ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

तू आपि करता सभ स्रिसटि धरता सभ महि रहिआ समाइ ॥

Too aapi karataa sabh srisati dharataa sabh mahi rahiaa samaai ||

You Yourself are the Creator, who established the entire world. You are contained in all.

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਭ ਪਈ ਪੈਰੀ ਆਇ ॥੨॥

धरम राजा बिसमादु होआ सभ पई पैरी आइ ॥२॥

Dharam raajaa bisamaadu hoaa sabh paee pairee aai ||2||

The Righteous Judge of Dharma is wonder-struck, at the sight of everyone falling at the Lord's Feet. ||2||

ਸਤਜੁਗੁ ਤ੍ਰੇਤਾ ਦੁਆਪਰੁ ਭਣੀਐ ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਊਤਮੋ ਜੁਗਾ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

सतजुगु त्रेता दुआपरु भणीऐ कलिजुगु ऊतमो जुगा माहि ॥

Satajugu tretaa duaaparu bha(nn)eeai kalijugu utamo jugaa maahi ||

The Golden Age of Sat Yuga, the Silver Age of Trayta Yuga, and the Brass Age of Dwaapar Yuga are good; but the best is the Dark Age, the Iron Age, of Kali Yuga.

ਅਹਿ ਕਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਅਹਿ ਕਰੁ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਪਕੜੀਐ ਕਿਸੈ ਥਾਇ ॥੩॥

अहि करु करे सु अहि करु पाए कोई न पकड़ीऐ किसै थाइ ॥३॥

Ahi karu kare su ahi karu paae koee na paka(rr)eeai kisai thaai ||3||

As we act, so are the rewards we receive; no one can take the place of another. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਏਹੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ॥

हरि जीउ सोई करहि जि भगत तेरे जाचहि एहु तेरा बिरदु ॥

Hari jeeu soee karahi ji bhagat tere jaachahi ehu teraa biradu ||

O Dear Lord, whatever Your devotees ask for, You do. This is Your Way, Your very nature.

ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਅਪਣਿਆ ਸੰਤਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੪੦॥

कर जोड़ि नानक दानु मागै अपणिआ संता देहि हरि दरसु ॥४॥५॥१४०॥

Kar jo(rr)i naanak daanu maagai apa(nn)iaa santtaa dehi hari darasu ||4||5||140||

With my palms pressed together, O Nanak, I beg for this gift; Lord, please bless Your Saints with Your Vision. ||4||5||140||

O True Guru, by Your Words,

महा बिखादी दुसट अपवादी ते पुनीत संगारे ॥१॥

Mahaa bikhaadee dusat apavaadee te puneet sanggaare ||1||

Even the most argumentative, vicious and indecent people, have been purified in Your company. ||1||

ਜਨਮ ਭਵੰਤੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਪੜੰਤੇ ਤਿਨੑ ਕੇ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

जनम भवंते नरकि पड़ंते तिन्ह के कुल उधारे ॥२॥

Janam bhavantte naraki pa(rr)antte tinh ke kul udhaare ||2||

Those who have wandered in reincarnation, and those who have been consigned to hell - even their families have been redeemed. ||2||

ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਸੇ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੩॥

कोइ न जानै कोइ न मानै से परगटु हरि दुआरे ॥३॥

Koi na jaanai koi na maanai se paragatu hari duaare ||3||

Those whom no one knew, and those whom no one respected - even they have become famous and respected at the Court of the Lord. ||3||

ਕਵਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਕਵਨ ਵਡਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਵਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੪੧॥

कवन उपमा देउ कवन वडाई नानक खिनु खिनु वारे ॥४॥१॥१४१॥

Kavan upamaa deu kavan vadaaee naanak khinu khinu vaare ||4||1||141||

What praise, and what greatness should I attribute to You? Nanak is a sacrifice to You, each and every moment. ||4||1||141||

The crazy people are asleep. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੋਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੇ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਗਹਨ ਗਹੇ ॥੧॥

मोह कुट्मब बिखै रस माते मिथिआ गहन गहे ॥१॥

Moh kutambb bikhai ras maate mithiaa gahan gahe ||1||

They are intoxicated with attachment to their families and sensory pleasures; they are held in the grip of falsehood. ||1||

ਮਿਥਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸੁਪਨ ਆਨੰਦ ਉਲਾਸ ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਹੇ ॥੨॥

मिथन मनोरथ सुपन आनंद उलास मनि मुखि सति कहे ॥२॥

Mithan manorath supan aanandd ulaas mani mukhi sati kahe ||2||

The false desires, and the dream-like delights and pleasures - these, the self-willed manmukhs call true. ||2||

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸੰਗੇ ਤਿਲੁ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਲਹੇ ॥੩॥

अम्रितु नामु पदारथु संगे तिलु मरमु न लहे ॥३॥

Ammmritu naamu padaarathu sangge tilu maramu na lahe ||3||

The wealth of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, is with them, but they do not find even a tiny bit of its mystery. ||3||

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਆਹੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੪੨॥

करि किरपा राखे सतसंगे नानक सरणि आहे ॥४॥२॥१४२॥

Kari kirapaa raakhe satasangge naanak sara(nn)i aahe ||4||2||142||

By Your Grace, O Lord, You save those, who take to the Sanctuary of the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||4||2||142||

कनिक माणिक गज मोतीअन लालन नह नाह नही ॥१॥

Kanik maa(nn)ik gaj moteean laalan nah naah nahee ||1||

Gold, jewels, giant pearls and rubies - I have no need for them. ||1||

ਰਾਜ ਨ ਭਾਗ ਨ ਹੁਕਮ ਨ ਸਾਦ ਨ ॥

राज न भाग न हुकम न साद न ॥

Raaj na bhaag na hukam na saad na ||

Imperial power, fortunes, royal command and mansions

ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਚਾਹੀ ॥੨॥

किछु किछु न चाही ॥२॥

Kichhu kichhu na chaahee ||2||

- I have no desire for these. ||2||

ਚਰਨਨ ਸਰਨਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਬੰਦਨ ॥

चरनन सरनन संतन बंदन ॥

Charanan saranan santtan banddan ||

The Sanctuary of the Lord's Feet, and dedication to the Saints

ਸੁਖੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਹੀ ॥

सुखो सुखु पाही ॥

Sukho sukhu paahee ||

These bring me peace and pleasure.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਪਤਿ ਹਰੀ ॥

नानक तपति हरी ॥

Naanak tapati haree ||

O Nanak, my burning fire has been put out,

The Guru has revealed Him to my eyes. ||1|| Pause ||

ਈਤਹਿ ਊਤਹਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਤੂੰਹੀ ਤੂੰਹੀ ਮੋਹਿਨਾ ॥੧॥

ईतहि ऊतहि घटि घटि घटि घटि तूंही तूंही मोहिना ॥१॥

Eetahi utahi ghati ghati ghati ghati toonhhee toonhhee mohinaa ||1||

Here and there, in each and every heart, and each and every being, You, O Fascinating Lord, You exist. ||1||

ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਧਾਰਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਸੋਹਿਨਾ ॥੨॥

कारन करना धारन धरना एकै एकै सोहिना ॥२॥

Kaaran karanaa dhaaran dharanaa ekai ekai sohinaa ||2||

You are the Creator, the Cause of causes, the Support of the earth; You are the One and only, Beauteous Lord. ||2||

ਸੰਤਨ ਪਰਸਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੋਇਨਾ ॥੩॥੪॥੧੪੪॥

संतन परसन बलिहारी दरसन नानक सुखि सुखि सोइना ॥३॥४॥१४४॥

Santtan parasan balihaaree darasan naanak sukhi sukhi soinaa ||3||4||144||

Meeting the Saints, and beholding the Blessed Vision of their Darshan, Nanak is a sacrifice to them; he sleeps in absolute peace. ||3||4||144||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is priceless.

ਓਹੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ओहु सहजि सुहेला ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ohu sahaji suhelaa ||1|| rahaau ||

It brings peace and poise. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਓਹੁ ਅਗਹ ਅਤੋਲਾ ॥੧॥

संगि सहाई छोडि न जाई ओहु अगह अतोला ॥१॥

Sanggi sahaaee chhodi na jaaee ohu agah atolaa ||1||

The Lord is my Companion and Helper; He shall not forsake me or leave me. He is unfathomable and unequalled. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਭਾਈ ਬਾਪੁ ਮੋਰੋ ਮਾਈ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਓਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ॥੨॥

प्रीतमु भाई बापु मोरो माई भगतन का ओल्हा ॥२॥

Preetamu bhaaee baapu moro maaee bhagatan kaa olhaa ||2||

He is my Beloved, my brother, father and mother; He is the Support of His devotees. ||2||

ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਚੋਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ॥੩॥੫॥੧੪੫॥

अलखु लखाइआ गुर ते पाइआ नानक इहु हरि का चोल्हा ॥३॥५॥१४५॥

Alakhu lakhaaiaa gur te paaiaa naanak ihu hari kaa cholhaa ||3||5||145||

The Invisible Lord is seen through the Guru; O Nanak, this is the wondrous play of the Lord. ||3||5||145||

नामु पदारथु होइ सकारथु हिरदै चरन बसाहि ॥१॥

Naamu padaarathu hoi sakaarathu hiradai charan basaahi ||1||

With the wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, life becomes fruitful. Lord, please place Your Feet within my heart. ||1||

ਏਹ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਏਹ ਜੁਗਤਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

एह मुकता एह जुगता राखहु संत संगाहि ॥२॥

Eh mukataa eh jugataa raakhahu santt sanggaahi ||2||

This is liberation, and this is the best way of life; please, keep me in the Society of the Saints. ||2||

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਉ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਹਿ ॥੩॥੬॥੧੪੬॥

नामु धिआवउ सहजि समावउ नानक हरि गुन गाहि ॥३॥६॥१४६॥

Naamu dhiaavau sahaji samaavau naanak hari gun gaahi ||3||6||146||

Meditating on the Naam, I am absorbed in celestial peace; O Nanak, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||6||146||

Hari santtan paave ||1|| rahaau ||

The Lord's Saints obtain them. ||1|| Pause ||

ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਗੁਨ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਗਾਵੇ ॥੧॥

आपु गवाइआ सेव कमाइआ गुन रसि रसि गावे ॥१॥

Aapu gavaaiaa sev kamaaiaa gun rasi rasi gaave ||1||

They eradicate their self-conceit and serve the Lord; drenched in His Love, they sing His Glorious Praises. ||1||

ਏਕਹਿ ਆਸਾ ਦਰਸ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਆਨ ਨ ਭਾਵੇ ॥੨॥

एकहि आसा दरस पिआसा आन न भावे ॥२॥

Ekahi aasaa daras piaasaa aan na bhaave ||2||

They place their hopes in Him, and they thirst for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. Nothing else is pleasing to them. ||2||

ਦਇਆ ਤੁਹਾਰੀ ਕਿਆ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵੇ ॥੩॥੭॥੧੪੭॥

दइआ तुहारी किआ जंत विचारी नानक बलि बलि जावे ॥३॥७॥१४७॥

Daiaa tuhaaree kiaa jantt vichaaree naanak bali bali jaave ||3||7||147||

This is Your Mercy, Lord; what can Your poor creatures do? Nanak is devoted, a sacrifice to You. ||3||7||147||

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥

नामु धिआवहु रिदै बसावहु तिसु बिनु को नाही ॥१॥

Naamu dhiaavahu ridai basaavahu tisu binu ko naahee ||1||

Meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and enshrine Him within your heart. Without Him there is no other. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨੀ ਆਈਐ ਸਰਬ ਫਲ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੨॥

प्रभ सरनी आईऐ सरब फल पाईऐ सगले दुख जाही ॥२॥

Prbh saranee aaeeai sarab phal paaeeai sagale dukh jaahee ||2||

Entering God's Sanctuary, all rewards are obtained, and all pains are taken away. ||2||

ਜੀਅਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਆਹੀ ॥੩॥੮॥੧੪੮॥

जीअन को दाता पुरखु बिधाता नानक घटि घटि आही ॥३॥८॥१४८॥

Jeean ko daataa purakhu bidhaataa naanak ghati ghati aahee ||3||8||148||

He is the Giver of all beings, the Architect of Destiny; O Nanak, He is contained in each and every heart. ||3||8||148||

One who forgets the Lord is dead. ||1|| Pause ||

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਸਰਬ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਹੂਆ ॥੧॥

नामु धिआवै सरब फल पावै सो जनु सुखीआ हूआ ॥१॥

Naamu dhiaavai sarab phal paavai so janu sukheeaa hooaa ||1||

One who meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, obtains all rewards. That person becomes happy. ||1||

ਰਾਜੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਹਉ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਨਲਿਨੀ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਸੂਆ ॥੨॥

राजु कहावै हउ करम कमावै बाधिओ नलिनी भ्रमि सूआ ॥२॥

Raaju kahaavai hau karam kamaavai baadhio nalinee bhrmi sooaa ||2||

One who calls himself a king, and acts in ego and pride, is caught by his doubts, like a parrot in a trap. ||2||

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੩॥੯॥੧੪੯॥

कहु नानक जिसु सतिगुरु भेटिआ सो जनु निहचलु थीआ ॥३॥९॥१४९॥

Kahu naanak jisu satiguru bhetiaa so janu nihachalu theeaa ||3||9||149||

Says Nanak, one who meets the True Guru, becomes permanent and immortal. ||3||9||149||

ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

जो प्रभ भावै जनमि न आवै ॥

Jo prbh bhaavai janami na aavai ||

One who is pleasing to God shall not be reincarnated again.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਚੈ ॥੧॥

हरि प्रेम भगति हरि प्रीति रचै ॥१॥

Hari prem bhagati hari preeti rachai ||1||

He remains absorbed in the loving devotional worship of the Lord, in the Love of the Lord. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲੀਜੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥

प्रभ संगि मिलीजै इहु मनु दीजै ॥

Prbh sanggi mileejai ihu manu deejai ||

He is blended with God, by dedicating his mind to Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੫੦॥

नानक नामु मिलै अपनी दइआ करहु ॥२॥१॥१५०॥

Naanak naamu milai apanee daiaa karahu ||2||1||150||

Bless Nanak with Your Name, O Lord - please, shower Your Mercy upon him! ||2||1||150||

मिलु राम पिआरे तुम बिनु धीरजु को न करै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Milu raam piaare tum binu dheeraju ko na karai ||1|| rahaau ||

Please, come to me, O Beloved Lord; without You, no one can comfort me. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਦਰਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥

सिम्रिति सासत्र बहु करम कमाए प्रभ तुमरे दरस बिनु सुखु नाही ॥१॥

Simmmriti saasatr bahu karam kamaae prbh tumare daras binu sukhu naahee ||1||

One may read the Simritees and the Shaastras, and perform all sorts of religious rituals; and yet, without the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, God, there is no peace at all. ||1||

ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਵਸੈ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੫੧॥

वरत नेम संजम करि थाके नानक साध सरनि प्रभ संगि वसै ॥२॥२॥१५१॥

Varat nem sanjjam kari thaake naanak saadh sarani prbh sanggi vasai ||2||2||151||

People have grown weary of observing fasts, vows and rigorous self-discipline; Nanak abides with God, in the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||2||2||151||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਦਿ ਸੋਇਓ ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

बिकार माइआ मादि सोइओ सूझ बूझ न आवै ॥

Bikaar maaiaa maadi soio soojh boojh na aavai ||

He sleeps, intoxicated by corruption and Maya; he does not come to realize or understand.

ਪਕਰਿ ਕੇਸ ਜਮਿ ਉਠਾਰਿਓ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

पकरि केस जमि उठारिओ तद ही घरि जावै ॥१॥

Pakari kes jami uthaario tad hee ghari jaavai ||1||

Seizing him by the hair, the Messenger of Death pulls him up; then, he comes to his senses. ||1||

ਲੋਭ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਖੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਹਿਰਿ ਵਿਤ ਚਿਤ ਦੁਖਾਹੀ ॥

लोभ बिखिआ बिखै लागे हिरि वित चित दुखाही ॥

Lobh bikhiaa bikhai laage hiri vit chit dukhaahee ||

Those who are attached to the poison of greed and sin grab at the wealth of others; they only bring pain on themselves.

ਖਿਨ ਭੰਗੁਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਾਨਿ ਮਾਤੇ ਅਸੁਰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

खिन भंगुना कै मानि माते असुर जाणहि नाही ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Khin bhanggunaa kai maani maate asur jaa(nn)ahi naahee ||1|| rahaau ||

They are intoxicated by their pride in those things which shall be destroyed in an instant; those demons do not understand. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬੇਦ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਜਨ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਸੁਨੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਡੋਰਾ ॥

बेद सासत्र जन पुकारहि सुनै नाही डोरा ॥

Bed saasatr jan pukaarahi sunai naahee doraa ||

The Vedas, the Shaastras and the holy men proclaim it, but the deaf do not hear it.

ਨਿਪਟਿ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰਿ ਮੂਕਾ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਓ ਮਨਿ ਭੋਰਾ ॥੨॥

निपटि बाजी हारि मूका पछुताइओ मनि भोरा ॥२॥

Nipati baajee haari mookaa pachhutaaio mani bhoraa ||2||

When the game of life is over, and he has lost, and he breathes his last, then the fool regrets and repents in his mind. ||2||

ਡਾਨੁ ਸਗਲ ਗੈਰ ਵਜਹਿ ਭਰਿਆ ਦੀਵਾਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਨ ਪਰਿਆ ॥

डानु सगल गैर वजहि भरिआ दीवान लेखै न परिआ ॥

Daanu sagal gair vajahi bhariaa deevaan lekhai na pariaa ||

He paid the fine, but it is in vain - in the Court of the Lord, his account is not credited.

ਜੇਂਹ ਕਾਰਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਓਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਸੋਇ ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੩॥

जेंह कारजि रहै ओल्हा सोइ कामु न करिआ ॥३॥

Jenh kaaraji rahai olhaa soi kaamu na kariaa ||3||

Those deeds which would have covered him - those deeds, he has not done. ||3||

ਐਸੋ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਏਕ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਇਆ ॥

ऐसो जगु मोहि गुरि दिखाइओ तउ एक कीरति गाइआ ॥

Aiso jagu mohi guri dikhaaio tau ek keerati gaaiaa ||

The Guru has shown me the world to be thus; I sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the One Lord.

ਮਾਨੁ ਤਾਨੁ ਤਜਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੨॥

मानु तानु तजि सिआनप सरणि नानकु आइआ ॥४॥१॥१५२॥

Maanu taanu taji siaanap sara(nn)i naanaku aaiaa ||4||1||152||

Renouncing his pride in strength and cleverness, Nanak has come to the Lord's Sanctuary. ||4||1||152||

Dealing in the Name of the Lord of the Universe,

ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤ ਮਨਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਪੰਚ ਨਾਦ ਤੂਰ ਬਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

साध संत मनाए प्रिअ पाए गुन गाए पंच नाद तूर बजाए ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saadh santt manaae pria paae gun gaae pancch naad toor bajaae ||1|| rahaau ||

And pleasing the Saints and holy men, obtain the Beloved Lord and sing His Glorious Praises; play the sound current of the Naad with the five instruments. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਏ ਸਹਜਾਏ ਦਰਸਾਏ ਅਬ ਰਾਤਿਆ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਸਿਉ ॥

किरपा पाए सहजाए दरसाए अब रातिआ गोविंद सिउ ॥

Kirapaa paae sahajaae darasaae ab raatiaa govindd siu ||

Obtaining His Mercy, I easily gained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; now, I am imbued with the Love of the Lord of the Universe.

ਸੰਤ ਸੇਵਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਾਥ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਲਨ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥

संत सेवि प्रीति नाथ रंगु लालन लाए ॥१॥

Santt sevi preeti naath ranggu laalan laae ||1||

Serving the Saints, I feel love and affection for my Beloved Lord Master. ||1||

ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਰਹਸਾਏ ਨਹੀ ਆਏ ਸਹਜਾਏ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

गुर गिआनु मनि द्रिड़ाए रहसाए नही आए सहजाए मनि निधानु पाए ॥

Gur giaanu mani dri(rr)aae rahasaae nahee aae sahajaae mani nidhaanu paae ||

The Guru has implanted spiritual wisdom within my mind, and I rejoice that I shall not have to come back again. I have obtained celestial poise, and the treasure within my mind.

ਸਭ ਤਜੀ ਮਨੈ ਕੀ ਕਾਮ ਕਰਾ ॥

सभ तजी मनै की काम करा ॥

Sabh tajee manai kee kaam karaa ||

I have renounced all of the affairs of my mind's desires.

ਚਿਰੁ ਚਿਰੁ ਚਿਰੁ ਚਿਰੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

चिरु चिरु चिरु चिरु भइआ मनि बहुतु पिआस लागी ॥

Chiru chiru chiru chiru bhaiaa mani bahutu piaas laagee ||

It has been so long, so long, so long, so very long, since my mind has felt such a great thirst.

ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੋ ਦਿਖਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ॥

हरि दरसनो दिखावहु मोहि तुम बतावहु ॥

Hari darasano dikhaavahu mohi tum bataavahu ||

Please, reveal to me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, and show Yourself to me.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਆਏ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਏ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੫੩॥

नानक दीन सरणि आए गलि लाए ॥२॥२॥१५३॥

Naanak deen sara(nn)i aae gali laae ||2||2||153||

Nanak the meek has entered Your Sanctuary; please, take me in Your embrace. ||2||2||153||

Who can destroy the fortress of sin,

ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸ ਧੋਹ ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आस पिआस धोह मोह भरम ही ते होरै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Aas piaas dhoh moh bharam hee te horai ||1|| rahaau ||

And release me from hope, thirst, deception, attachment and doubt? ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮਾਨ ਇਹ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਛੋਰੈ ॥੧॥

काम क्रोध लोभ मान इह बिआधि छोरै ॥१॥

Kaam krodh lobh maan ih biaadhi chhorai ||1||

How can I escape the afflictions of sexual desire, anger, greed and pride? ||1||

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੁਨ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗਾਵਉ ॥

संतसंगि नाम रंगि गुन गोविंद गावउ ॥

Santtasanggi naam ranggi gun govindd gaavau ||

In the Society of the Saints, love the Naam, and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਅਨਦਿਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥

अनदिनो प्रभ धिआवउ ॥

Anadino prbh dhiaavau ||

Night and day, meditate on God.

ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੀਤਿ ਜੀਤਿ ਮਿਟਾਵਉ ॥

भ्रम भीति जीति मिटावउ ॥

Bhrm bheeti jeeti mitaavau ||

I have captured and demolished the walls of doubt.

ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੋਰੈ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੫੪॥

निधि नामु नानक मोरै ॥२॥३॥१५४॥

Nidhi naamu naanak morai ||2||3||154||

O Nanak, the Naam is my only treasure. ||2||3||154||

Renounce sexual desire, anger and greed;

ਮਨਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ॥

मनि सिमरि गोबिंद नाम ॥

Mani simari gobindd naam ||

Remember the Name of the Lord of the Universe in your mind.

ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਸਫਲ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि भजन सफल काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari bhajan saphal kaam ||1|| rahaau ||

Meditation on the Lord is the only fruitful action. ||1|| Pause ||

ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਜਪਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ॥

तजि मान मोह विकार मिथिआ जपि राम राम राम ॥

Taji maan moh vikaar mithiaa japi raam raam raam ||

Renounce pride, attachment, corruption and falsehood, and chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam.

ਮਨ ਸੰਤਨਾ ਕੈ ਚਰਨਿ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੧॥

मन संतना कै चरनि लागु ॥१॥

Man santtanaa kai charani laagu ||1||

O mortal, attach yourself to the Feet of the Saints. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਜਾਗੁ ॥

प्रभ गोपाल दीन दइआल पतित पावन पारब्रहम हरि चरण सिमरि जागु ॥

Prbh gopaal deen daiaal patit paavan paarabrham hari chara(nn) simari jaagu ||

God is the Sustainer of the world, Merciful to the meek, the Purifier of sinners, the Transcendent Lord God. Awaken, and meditate on His Feet.

ਕਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੫੫॥

करि भगति नानक पूरन भागु ॥२॥४॥१५५॥

Kari bhagati naanak pooran bhaagu ||2||4||155||

Perform His devotional worship, O Nanak, and your destiny shall be fulfilled. ||2||4||155||

हरख सोग बैराग अनंदी खेलु री दिखाइओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Harakh sog bairaag ananddee khelu ree dikhaaio ||1|| rahaau ||

Pleasure and pain, detachment and ecstasy - the Lord has revealed His Play. ||1|| Pause ||

ਖਿਨਹੂੰ ਭੈ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਖਿਨਹੂੰ ਖਿਨਹੂੰ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਇਓ ॥

खिनहूं भै निरभै खिनहूं खिनहूं उठि धाइओ ॥

Khinahoonn bhai nirabhai khinahoonn khinahoonn uthi dhaaio ||

One moment, the mortal is in fear, and the next moment he is fearless; in a moment, he gets up and departs.

ਖਿਨਹੂੰ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਨ ਖਿਨਹੂੰ ਖਿਨਹੂ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇਓ ॥੧॥

खिनहूं रस भोगन खिनहूं खिनहू तजि जाइओ ॥१॥

Khinahoonn ras bhogan khinahoonn khinahoo taji jaaio ||1||

One moment, he enjoys pleasures, and the next moment, he leaves and goes away. ||1||

ਖਿਨਹੂੰ ਜੋਗ ਤਾਪ ਬਹੁ ਪੂਜਾ ਖਿਨਹੂੰ ਭਰਮਾਇਓ ॥

खिनहूं जोग ताप बहु पूजा खिनहूं भरमाइओ ॥

Khinahoonn jog taap bahu poojaa khinahoonn bharamaaio ||

One moment, he practices Yoga and intense meditation, and all sorts of worship; the next moment, he wanders in doubt.

ਖਿਨਹੂੰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੫੬॥

खिनहूं किरपा साधू संग नानक हरि रंगु लाइओ ॥२॥५॥१५६॥

Khinahoonn kirapaa saadhoo sangg naanak hari ranggu laaio ||2||5||156||

One moment, O Nanak, the Lord bestows His Mercy and blesses him with His Love, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||5||156||

Birathaa kahau kaun siu man kee ||

Who should I tell the condition of the mind?

ਲੋਭਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਓ ਦਸ ਹੂ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਤ ਆਸਾ ਲਾਗਿਓ ਧਨ ਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

लोभि ग्रसिओ दस हू दिस धावत आसा लागिओ धन की ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Lobhi grsio das hoo dis dhaavat aasaa laagio dhan kee ||1|| rahaau ||

Engrossed in greed, running around in the ten directions, you hold to your hopes of wealth. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੁਖ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਤ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਤ ਜਨ ਜਨ ਕੀ ॥

सुख कै हेति बहुतु दुखु पावत सेव करत जन जन की ॥

Sukh kai heti bahutu dukhu paavat sev karat jan jan kee ||

For the sake of pleasure, you suffer such great pain, and you have to serve each and every person.

ਦੁਆਰਹਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਸੁਆਨ ਜਿਉ ਡੋਲਤ ਨਹ ਸੁਧ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਕੀ ॥੧॥

दुआरहि दुआरि सुआन जिउ डोलत नह सुध राम भजन की ॥१॥

Duaarahi duaari suaan jiu dolat nah sudh raam bhajan kee ||1||

You wander from door to door like a dog, unconscious of the Lord's meditation. ||1||

ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਖੋਵਤ ਲਾਜ ਨ ਲੋਕ ਹਸਨ ਕੀ ॥

मानस जनम अकारथ खोवत लाज न लोक हसन की ॥

Maanas janam akaarath khovat laaj na lok hasan kee ||

You lose this human life in vain, and You are not even ashamed when others laugh at you.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਤ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਤਨ ਕੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੩੩॥

नानक हरि जसु किउ नही गावत कुमति बिनासै तन की ॥२॥१॥२३३॥

Naanak hari jasu kiu nahee gaavat kumati binaasai tan kee ||2||1||233||

O Nanak, why not sing the Lord's Praises, so that you may be rid of the body's evil disposition? ||2||1||233||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਉਤਰਿ ਅਵਘਟਿ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਨੑਾਵੈ ॥

उतरि अवघटि सरवरि न्हावै ॥

Utari avaghati saravari nhaavai ||

He descends the treacherous precipice, to bathe in the cleansing pool;

ਬਕੈ ਨ ਬੋਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

बकै न बोलै हरि गुण गावै ॥

Bakai na bolai hari gu(nn) gaavai ||

Without speaking or saying anything, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਜਲੁ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥

जलु आकासी सुंनि समावै ॥

Jalu aakaasee sunni samaavai ||

Like water vapor in the sky, he remains absorbed in the Lord.

ਰਸੁ ਸਤੁ ਝੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥

रसु सतु झोलि महा रसु पावै ॥१॥

Rasu satu jholi mahaa rasu paavai ||1||

He churns the true pleasures to obtain the supreme nectar. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਅਭ ਮੋਰੇ ॥

ऐसा गिआनु सुनहु अभ मोरे ॥

Aisaa giaanu sunahu abh more ||

Listen to such spiritual wisdom, O my mind.

ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਉਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

भरिपुरि धारि रहिआ सभ ठउरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Bharipuri dhaari rahiaa sabh thaure ||1|| rahaau ||

The Lord is totally pervading and permeating all places. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਚੁ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਨੇਮੁ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ॥

सचु ब्रतु नेमु न कालु संतावै ॥

Sachu brtu nemu na kaalu santtaavai ||

One who makes Truthfulness his fast and religious vows, does not suffer the pain of death.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥

सतिगुर सबदि करोधु जलावै ॥

Satigur sabadi karodhu jalaavai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he burns away his anger.

ਗਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥

गगनि निवासि समाधि लगावै ॥

Gagani nivaasi samaadhi lagaavai ||

He dwells in the Tenth Gate, immersed in the Samaadhi of deep meditation.

ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

पारसु परसि परम पदु पावै ॥२॥

Paarasu parasi param padu paavai ||2||

Touching the philosopher's stone, he obtains the supreme status. ||2||

ਸਚੁ ਮਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ॥

सचु मन कारणि ततु बिलोवै ॥

Sachu man kaara(nn)i tatu bilovai ||

For the benefit of the mind, churn the true essence of reality;

ਸੁਭਰ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ॥

सुभर सरवरि मैलु न धोवै ॥

Subhar saravari mailu na dhovai ||

Bathing in the over-flowing tank of nectar, filth is washed away.

ਜੈ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥

जै सिउ राता तैसो होवै ॥

Jai siu raataa taiso hovai ||

We become like the One with whom we are imbued.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥੩॥

आपे करता करे सु होवै ॥३॥

Aape karataa kare su hovai ||3||

Whatever the Creator does, comes to pass. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਹਿਵ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥

गुर हिव सीतलु अगनि बुझावै ॥

Gur hiv seetalu agani bujhaavai ||

The Guru is cool and soothing like ice; He puts out the fire of the mind.

ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਚੜਾਵੈ ॥

सेवा सुरति बिभूत चड़ावै ॥

Sevaa surati bibhoot cha(rr)aavai ||

Smear your body with the ashes of dedicated service,

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥

दरसनु आपि सहज घरि आवै ॥

Darasanu aapi sahaj ghari aavai ||

And live in the home of peace - make this your religious order.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵੈ ॥੪॥

निरमल बाणी नादु वजावै ॥४॥

Niramal baa(nn)ee naadu vajaavai ||4||

Let the Immaculate Bani of the Word be your playing of the flute. ||4||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥

अंतरि गिआनु महा रसु सारा ॥

Anttari giaanu mahaa rasu saaraa ||

Spiritual wisdom within is the supreme, sublime nectar.

ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

तीरथ मजनु गुर वीचारा ॥

Teerath majanu gur veechaaraa ||

Contemplation of the Guru is one's bathing at holy places of pilgrimage.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਾ ॥

अंतरि पूजा थानु मुरारा ॥

Anttari poojaa thaanu muraaraa ||

Worship and adoration within is the Lord's dwelling.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੫॥

जोती जोति मिलावणहारा ॥५॥

Jotee joti milaava(nn)ahaaraa ||5||

He is the One who blends one's light with the Divine Light. ||5||

ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿਆ ਮਤਿ ਏਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

रसि रसिआ मति एकै भाइ ॥

Rasi rasiaa mati ekai bhaai ||

He delights in the delightful wisdom of loving the One Lord.

ਤਖਤ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਪੰਚ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

तखत निवासी पंच समाइ ॥

Takhat nivaasee pancch samaai ||

He is one of the self-elect - he merges with the Lord, who occupies the throne.

ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਇ ॥

कार कमाई खसम रजाइ ॥

Kaar kamaaee khasam rajaai ||

He performs his works in obedience to the Will of his Lord and Master.

ਅਵਿਗਤ ਨਾਥੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥

अविगत नाथु न लखिआ जाइ ॥६॥

Avigat naathu na lakhiaa jaai ||6||

The Unknowable Lord cannot be understood. ||6||

ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

जल महि उपजै जल ते दूरि ॥

Jal mahi upajai jal te doori ||

The lotus originates in the water, and yet it remains distinct from the water.

ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

जल महि जोति रहिआ भरपूरि ॥

Jal mahi joti rahiaa bharapoori ||

Just so, the Divine Light pervades and permeates the water of the world.

ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

किसु नेड़ै किसु आखा दूरि ॥

Kisu ne(rr)ai kisu aakhaa doori ||

Who is near, and who is far away?

ਨਿਧਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੭॥

निधि गुण गावा देखि हदूरि ॥७॥

Nidhi gu(nn) gaavaa dekhi hadoori ||7||

I sing the Glories of the Lord, the treasure of virtue; I behold Him ever-present. ||7||
