ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਉ ਜਿਹ ਜਾਤਿ ਬਰਨੁ ਕੁਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੫੭॥

बलिहारी इह प्रीति कउ जिह जाति बरनु कुलु जाइ ॥५७॥

Balihaaree ih preeti kau jih jaati baranu kulu jaai ||57||

I am a sacrifice to this love, by which social class and status, color and ancestry are taken away. ||57||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੰਕੁਰਾ ਰਾਈ ਦਸਏਂ ਭਾਇ ॥

कबीर मुकति दुआरा संकुरा राई दसएं भाइ ॥

Kabeer mukati duaaraa sankkuraa raaee dasaen bhaai ||

Kabeer, the door of liberation is very narrow, less than the width of a mustard seed.

ਮਨੁ ਤਉ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਿਕਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਕੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੫੮॥

मनु तउ मैगलु होइ रहिओ निकसो किउ कै जाइ ॥५८॥

Manu tau maigalu hoi rahio nikaso kiu kai jaai ||58||

Your mind is larger than an elephant; how will it pass through? ||58||


ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੁਠਾ ਕਰੇ ਪਸਾਉ ॥

कबीर ऐसा सतिगुरु जे मिलै तुठा करे पसाउ ॥

Kabeer aisaa satiguru je milai tuthaa kare pasaau ||

Kabeer, if I meet such a True Guru, who mercifully blesses me with the gift,

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੋਕਲਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਆਵਉ ਜਾਉ ॥੫੯॥

मुकति दुआरा मोकला सहजे आवउ जाउ ॥५९॥

Mukati duaaraa mokalaa sahaje aavau jaau ||59||

Then the door of liberation will open wide for me, and I will easily pass through. ||59||


ਕਬੀਰ ਨਾ ਮੋੁਹਿ ਛਾਨਿ ਨ ਛਾਪਰੀ ਨਾ ਮੋੁਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਉ ॥

कबीर ना मोहि छानि न छापरी ना मोहि घरु नही गाउ ॥

Kabeer naa maohi chhaani na chhaaparee naa maohi gharu nahee gaau ||

Kabeer, I have no hut or hovel, no house or village.

ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਛੈ ਕਉਨੁ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਨਾਉ ॥੬੦॥

मत हरि पूछै कउनु है मेरे जाति न नाउ ॥६०॥

Mat hari poochhai kaunu hai mere jaati na naau ||60||

I hope that the Lord will not ask who I am. I have no social status or name. ||60||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮੁਹਿ ਮਰਨੇ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ਹੈ ਮਰਉ ਤ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥

कबीर मुहि मरने का चाउ है मरउ त हरि कै दुआर ॥

Kabeer muhi marane kaa chaau hai marau ta hari kai duaar ||

Kabeer, I long to die; let me die at the Lord's Door.

ਮਤ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਛੈ ਕਉਨੁ ਹੈ ਪਰਾ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਬਾਰ ॥੬੧॥

मत हरि पूछै कउनु है परा हमारै बार ॥६१॥

Mat hari poochhai kaunu hai paraa hamaarai baar ||61||

I hope that the Lord does not ask, ""Who is this, lying at my door?"" ||61||


ਕਬੀਰ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਕੀਆ ਨ ਕਰਹਿਗੇ ਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਕੈ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥

कबीर ना हम कीआ न करहिगे ना करि सकै सरीरु ॥

Kabeer naa ham keeaa na karahige naa kari sakai sareeru ||

Kabeer, I have not done anything; I shall not do anything; my body cannot do anything.

ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਭਇਓ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ॥੬੨॥

किआ जानउ किछु हरि कीआ भइओ कबीरु कबीरु ॥६२॥

Kiaa jaanau kichhu hari keeaa bhaio kabeeru kabeeru ||62||

I do not know what the Lord has done, but the call has gone out: ""Kabeer, Kabeer."" ||62||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਹੂ ਬਰੜਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਿਹ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਰਾਮੁ ॥

कबीर सुपनै हू बरड़ाइ कै जिह मुखि निकसै रामु ॥

Kabeer supanai hoo bara(rr)aai kai jih mukhi nikasai raamu ||

Kabeer, if someone utters the Name of the Lord even in dreams,

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪਗ ਕੀ ਪਾਨਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਚਾਮੁ ॥੬੩॥

ता के पग की पानही मेरे तन को चामु ॥६३॥

Taa ke pag kee paanahee mere tan ko chaamu ||63||

I would make my skin into shoes for his feet. ||63||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਟੀ ਕੇ ਹਮ ਪੂਤਰੇ ਮਾਨਸੁ ਰਾਖਿਓੁ ਨਾਉ ॥

कबीर माटी के हम पूतरे मानसु राखिओ नाउ ॥

Kabeer maatee ke ham pootare maanasu raakhiou naau ||

Kabeer, we are puppets of clay, but we take the name of mankind.

ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਕੇ ਪਾਹੁਨੇ ਬਡ ਬਡ ਰੂੰਧਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥੬੪॥

चारि दिवस के पाहुने बड बड रूंधहि ठाउ ॥६४॥

Chaari divas ke paahune bad bad roonddhahi thaau ||64||

We are guests here for only a few days, but we take up so much space. ||64||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਹਿਦੀ ਕਰਿ ਘਾਲਿਆ ਆਪੁ ਪੀਸਾਇ ਪੀਸਾਇ ॥

कबीर महिदी करि घालिआ आपु पीसाइ पीसाइ ॥

Kabeer mahidee kari ghaaliaa aapu peesaai peesaai ||

Kabeer, I have made myself into henna, and I grind myself into powder.

ਤੈ ਸਹ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਪੂਛੀਐ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਲਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥੬੫॥

तै सह बात न पूछीऐ कबहु न लाई पाइ ॥६५॥

Tai sah baat na poochheeai kabahu na laaee paai ||65||

But You, O my Husband Lord, have not asked about me; You have never applied me to Your Feet. ||65||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਹ ਦਰਿ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤਿਅਹੁ ਹਟਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर जिह दरि आवत जातिअहु हटकै नाही कोइ ॥

Kabeer jih dari aavat jaatiahu hatakai naahee koi ||

Kabeer, that door, through which people never stop coming and going

ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਛੋਡੀਐ ਜੋ ਦਰੁ ਐਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੬੬॥

सो दरु कैसे छोडीऐ जो दरु ऐसा होइ ॥६६॥

So daru kaise chhodeeai jo daru aisaa hoi ||66||

- how can I leave such a door as that? ||66||


ਕਬੀਰ ਡੂਬਾ ਥਾ ਪੈ ਉਬਰਿਓ ਗੁਨ ਕੀ ਲਹਰਿ ਝਬਕਿ ॥

कबीर डूबा था पै उबरिओ गुन की लहरि झबकि ॥

Kabeer doobaa thaa pai ubario gun kee lahari jhabaki ||

Kabeer, I was drowning, but the waves of virtue saved me in an instant.

ਜਬ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਬੇੜਾ ਜਰਜਰਾ ਤਬ ਉਤਰਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਹਉ ਫਰਕਿ ॥੬੭॥

जब देखिओ बेड़ा जरजरा तब उतरि परिओ हउ फरकि ॥६७॥

Jab dekhio be(rr)aa jarajaraa tab utari pario hau pharaki ||67||

When I saw that my boat was rotten, then I immediately got out. ||67||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਪੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਨ ਸੁਹਾਇ ॥

कबीर पापी भगति न भावई हरि पूजा न सुहाइ ॥

Kabeer paapee bhagati na bhaavaee hari poojaa na suhaai ||

Kabeer, the sinner does not like devotion to the Lord; he does not appreciate worship.

ਮਾਖੀ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਪਰਹਰੈ ਜਹ ਬਿਗੰਧ ਤਹ ਜਾਇ ॥੬੮॥

माखी चंदनु परहरै जह बिगंध तह जाइ ॥६८॥

Maakhee chanddanu paraharai jah biganddh tah jaai ||68||

The fly abandons the sandalwood tree, and goes after the rotten smell. ||68||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬੈਦੁ ਮੂਆ ਰੋਗੀ ਮੂਆ ਮੂਆ ਸਭੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

कबीर बैदु मूआ रोगी मूआ मूआ सभु संसारु ॥

Kabeer baidu mooaa rogee mooaa mooaa sabhu sanssaaru ||

Kabeer, the physician is dead, and the patient is dead; the whole world is dead.

ਏਕੁ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਨਾ ਮੂਆ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੋਵਨਹਾਰੁ ॥੬੯॥

एकु कबीरा ना मूआ जिह नाही रोवनहारु ॥६९॥

Eku kabeeraa naa mooaa jih naahee rovanahaaru ||69||

Only Kabeer is not dead; there is no one to mourn for him. ||69||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਮੋਟੀ ਲਾਗੀ ਖੋਰਿ ॥

कबीर रामु न धिआइओ मोटी लागी खोरि ॥

Kabeer raamu na dhiaaio motee laagee khori ||

Kabeer, I have not meditated on the Lord; such is the bad habit I have developed.

ਕਾਇਆ ਹਾਂਡੀ ਕਾਠ ਕੀ ਨਾ ਓਹ ਚਰ੍ਹੈ ਬਹੋਰਿ ॥੭੦॥

काइआ हांडी काठ की ना ओह चर्है बहोरि ॥७०॥

Kaaiaa haandee kaath kee naa oh charhai bahori ||70||

The body is a wooden pot; it cannot be put back on the fire. ||70||


ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸੀ ਹੋਇ ਪਰੀ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਭਾਵਤੁ ਕੀਨੁ ॥

कबीर ऐसी होइ परी मन को भावतु कीनु ॥

Kabeer aisee hoi paree man ko bhaavatu keenu ||

Kabeer, it came to pass, that I did whatever I pleased.

ਮਰਨੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਡਰਪਨਾ ਜਬ ਹਾਥਿ ਸਿਧਉਰਾ ਲੀਨ ॥੭੧॥

मरने ते किआ डरपना जब हाथि सिधउरा लीन ॥७१॥

Marane te kiaa darapanaa jab haathi sidhauraa leen ||71||

Why should I be afraid of death? I have invited death for myself. ||71||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰਸ ਕੋ ਗਾਂਡੋ ਚੂਸੀਐ ਗੁਨ ਕਉ ਮਰੀਐ ਰੋਇ ॥

कबीर रस को गांडो चूसीऐ गुन कउ मरीऐ रोइ ॥

Kabeer ras ko gaando chooseeai gun kau mareeai roi ||

Kabeer, the mortals suck at the sugar cane, for the sake of the sweet juice. They should work just as hard for virtue.

ਅਵਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ਮਾਨਸੈ ਭਲੋ ਨ ਕਹਿਹੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੭੨॥

अवगुनीआरे मानसै भलो न कहिहै कोइ ॥७२॥

Avaguneeaare maanasai bhalo na kahihai koi ||72||

The person who lacks virtue - no one calls him good. ||72||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਜਲ ਭਰੀ ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਜੈਹੈ ਫੂਟਿ ॥

कबीर गागरि जल भरी आजु काल्हि जैहै फूटि ॥

Kabeer gaagari jal bharee aaju kaalhi jaihai phooti ||

Kabeer, the pitcher is full of water; it will break, today or tomorrow.

ਗੁਰੁ ਜੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਆਪਨੋ ਅਧ ਮਾਝਿ ਲੀਜਹਿਗੇ ਲੂਟਿ ॥੭੩॥

गुरु जु न चेतहि आपनो अध माझि लीजहिगे लूटि ॥७३॥

Guru ju na chetahi aapano adh maajhi leejahige looti ||73||

Those who do not remember their Guru, shall be plundered on the way. ||73||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕੂਕਰੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਮੁਤੀਆ ਮੇਰੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

कबीर कूकरु राम को मुतीआ मेरो नाउ ॥

Kabeer kookaru raam ko muteeaa mero naau ||

Kabeer, I am the Lord's dog; Moti is my name.

ਗਲੇ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਜਹ ਖਿੰਚੈ ਤਹ ਜਾਉ ॥੭੪॥

गले हमारे जेवरी जह खिंचै तह जाउ ॥७४॥

Gale hamaare jevaree jah khincchai tah jaau ||74||

There is a chain around my neck; wherever I am pulled, I go. ||74||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਪਨੀ ਕਾਠ ਕੀ ਕਿਆ ਦਿਖਲਾਵਹਿ ਲੋਇ ॥

कबीर जपनी काठ की किआ दिखलावहि लोइ ॥

Kabeer japanee kaath kee kiaa dikhalaavahi loi ||

Kabeer, why do you show other people your rosary beads?

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹੀ ਇਹ ਜਪਨੀ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੭੫॥

हिरदै रामु न चेतही इह जपनी किआ होइ ॥७५॥

Hiradai raamu na chetahee ih japanee kiaa hoi ||75||

You do not remember the Lord in your heart, so what use is this rosary to you? ||75||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਭੁਯੰਗਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਮੰਤੁ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर बिरहु भुयंगमु मनि बसै मंतु न मानै कोइ ॥

Kabeer birahu bhuyanggamu mani basai manttu na maanai koi ||

Kabeer, the snake of separation from the Lord abides within my mind; it does not respond to any mantra.

ਰਾਮ ਬਿਓਗੀ ਨਾ ਜੀਐ ਜੀਐ ਤ ਬਉਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭੬॥

राम बिओगी ना जीऐ जीऐ त बउरा होइ ॥७६॥

Raam biogee naa jeeai jeeai ta bauraa hoi ||76||

One who is separated from the Lord does not live; if he does live, he goes insane. ||76||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਰਸ ਚੰਦਨੈ ਤਿਨੑ ਹੈ ਏਕ ਸੁਗੰਧ ॥

कबीर पारस चंदनै तिन्ह है एक सुगंध ॥

Kabeer paaras chanddanai tinh hai ek suganddh ||

Kabeer, the philosopher's stone and sandalwood oil have the same good quality.

ਤਿਹ ਮਿਲਿ ਤੇਊ ਊਤਮ ਭਏ ਲੋਹ ਕਾਠ ਨਿਰਗੰਧ ॥੭੭॥

तिह मिलि तेऊ ऊतम भए लोह काठ निरगंध ॥७७॥

Tih mili teu utam bhae loh kaath niraganddh ||77||

Whatever comes into contact with them is uplifted. Iron is transformed into gold, and ordinary wood becomes fragrant. ||77||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਠੇਂਗਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਹੈ ਓਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर जम का ठेंगा बुरा है ओहु नही सहिआ जाइ ॥

Kabeer jam kaa thengaa buraa hai ohu nahee sahiaa jaai ||

Kabeer, Death's club is terrible; it cannot be endured.

ਏਕੁ ਜੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਮੋੁਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਤਿਨੑਿ ਲੀਆ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੭੮॥

एकु जु साधू मोहि मिलिओ तिन्हि लीआ अंचलि लाइ ॥७८॥

Eku ju saadhoo maohi milio tinhi leeaa ancchali laai ||78||

I have met with the holy man; he has attached me to the hem of his robe. ||78||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬੈਦੁ ਕਹੈ ਹਉ ਹੀ ਭਲਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਮੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ॥

कबीर बैदु कहै हउ ही भला दारू मेरै वसि ॥

Kabeer baidu kahai hau hee bhalaa daaroo merai vasi ||

Kabeer, the physician says that he alone is good, and all the medicine is under his control.

ਇਹ ਤਉ ਬਸਤੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਕੀ ਜਬ ਭਾਵੈ ਲੇਇ ਖਸਿ ॥੭੯॥

इह तउ बसतु गुपाल की जब भावै लेइ खसि ॥७९॥

Ih tau basatu gupaal kee jab bhaavai lei khasi ||79||

But these things belong to the Lord; He takes them away whenever He wishes. ||79||


ਕਬੀਰ ਨਉਬਤਿ ਆਪਨੀ ਦਿਨ ਦਸ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर नउबति आपनी दिन दस लेहु बजाइ ॥

Kabeer naubati aapanee din das lehu bajaai ||

Kabeer, take your drum and beat it for ten days.

ਨਦੀ ਨਾਵ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਜਿਉ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਮਿਲਹੈ ਆਇ ॥੮੦॥

नदी नाव संजोग जिउ बहुरि न मिलहै आइ ॥८०॥

Nadee naav sanjjog jiu bahuri na milahai aai ||80||

Life is like people meeting on a boat on a river; they shall not meet again. ||80||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦਹਿ ਮਸੁ ਕਰਉ ਕਲਮ ਕਰਉ ਬਨਰਾਇ ॥

कबीर सात समुंदहि मसु करउ कलम करउ बनराइ ॥

Kabeer saat samunddahi masu karau kalam karau banaraai ||

Kabeer, if I could change the seven seas into ink and make all the vegetation my pen,

ਬਸੁਧਾ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਜਉ ਕਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਲਿਖਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੮੧॥

बसुधा कागदु जउ करउ हरि जसु लिखनु न जाइ ॥८१॥

Basudhaa kaagadu jau karau hari jasu likhanu na jaai ||81||

And the earth my paper, even then, I could not write the Praises of the Lord. ||81||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾਤਿ ਜੁਲਾਹਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸੇ ਗੁਪਾਲ ॥

कबीर जाति जुलाहा किआ करै हिरदै बसे गुपाल ॥

Kabeer jaati julaahaa kiaa karai hiradai base gupaal ||

Kabeer, what can my lowly status as a weaver do to me? The Lord dwells in my heart.

ਕਬੀਰ ਰਮਈਆ ਕੰਠਿ ਮਿਲੁ ਚੂਕਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੮੨॥

कबीर रमईआ कंठि मिलु चूकहि सरब जंजाल ॥८२॥

Kabeer ramaeeaa kantthi milu chookahi sarab janjjaal ||82||

Kabeer, the Lord hugs me close in His Embrace; I have forsaken all my entanglements. ||82||


ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਜਰਾਇ ॥

कबीर ऐसा को नही मंदरु देइ जराइ ॥

Kabeer aisaa ko nahee manddaru dei jaraai ||

Kabeer, will anyone set fire to his home

ਪਾਂਚਉ ਲਰਿਕੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਰਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਉ ਲਾਇ ॥੮੩॥

पांचउ लरिके मारि कै रहै राम लिउ लाइ ॥८३॥

Paanchau larike maari kai rahai raam liu laai ||83||

And kill his five sons (the five thieves) to remain lovingly attached to the Lord? ||83||


ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਫੂਕਿ ॥

कबीर ऐसा को नही इहु तनु देवै फूकि ॥

Kabeer aisaa ko nahee ihu tanu devai phooki ||

Kabeer, will anyone burn his own body?

ਅੰਧਾ ਲੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਈ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਕੂਕਿ ॥੮੪॥

अंधा लोगु न जानई रहिओ कबीरा कूकि ॥८४॥

Anddhaa logu na jaanaee rahio kabeeraa kooki ||84||

The people are blind - they do not know, although Kabeer continues to shout at them. ||84||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਤੀ ਪੁਕਾਰੈ ਚਿਹ ਚੜੀ ਸੁਨੁ ਹੋ ਬੀਰ ਮਸਾਨ ॥

कबीर सती पुकारै चिह चड़ी सुनु हो बीर मसान ॥

Kabeer satee pukaarai chih cha(rr)ee sunu ho beer masaan ||

Kabeer, the widow mounts the funeral pyre and cries out, ""Listen, O brother funeral pyre.

ਲੋਗੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਚਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਕਾਮੁ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥੮੫॥

लोगु सबाइआ चलि गइओ हम तुम कामु निदान ॥८५॥

Logu sabaaiaa chali gaio ham tum kaamu nidaan ||85||

All people must depart in the end; it is only you and I."" ||85||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਭਇਓ ਉਡਿ ਉਡਿ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर मनु पंखी भइओ उडि उडि दह दिस जाइ ॥

Kabeer manu pankkhee bhaio udi udi dah dis jaai ||

Kabeer, the mind has become a bird; it soars and flies in the ten directions.

ਜੋ ਜੈਸੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਤੈਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੮੬॥

जो जैसी संगति मिलै सो तैसो फलु खाइ ॥८६॥

Jo jaisee sanggati milai so taiso phalu khaai ||86||

According to the company it keeps, so are the fruits it eats. ||86||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਖੋਜਤੇ ਪਾਇਓ ਸੋਈ ਠਉਰੁ ॥

कबीर जा कउ खोजते पाइओ सोई ठउरु ॥

Kabeer jaa kau khojate paaio soee thauru ||

Kabeer, you have found that place which you were seeking.

ਸੋਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਕੈ ਤੂ ਭਇਆ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਤਾ ਅਉਰੁ ॥੮੭॥

सोई फिरि कै तू भइआ जा कउ कहता अउरु ॥८७॥

Soee phiri kai too bhaiaa jaa kau kahataa auru ||87||

You have become that which you thought was separate from yourself. ||87||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਰੀ ਮਰਉ ਕੁਸੰਗ ਕੀ ਕੇਲੇ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਜੁ ਬੇਰਿ ॥

कबीर मारी मरउ कुसंग की केले निकटि जु बेरि ॥

Kabeer maaree marau kusangg kee kele nikati ju beri ||

Kabeer, I have been ruined and destroyed by bad company, like the banana plant near the thorn bush.

ਉਹ ਝੂਲੈ ਉਹ ਚੀਰੀਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਹੇਰਿ ॥੮੮॥

उह झूलै उह चीरीऐ साकत संगु न हेरि ॥८८॥

Uh jhoolai uh cheereeai saakat sanggu na heri ||88||

The thorn bush waves in the wind, and pierces the banana plant; see this, and do not associate with the faithless cynics. ||88||


ਕਬੀਰ ਭਾਰ ਪਰਾਈ ਸਿਰਿ ਚਰੈ ਚਲਿਓ ਚਾਹੈ ਬਾਟ ॥

कबीर भार पराई सिरि चरै चलिओ चाहै बाट ॥

Kabeer bhaar paraaee siri charai chalio chaahai baat ||

Kabeer, the mortal wants to walk on the path, carrying the load of others' sins on his head.

ਅਪਨੇ ਭਾਰਹਿ ਨਾ ਡਰੈ ਆਗੈ ਅਉਘਟ ਘਾਟ ॥੮੯॥

अपने भारहि ना डरै आगै अउघट घाट ॥८९॥

Apane bhaarahi naa darai aagai aughat ghaat ||89||

He is not afraid of his own load of sins; the road ahead shall be difficult and treacherous. ||89||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬਨ ਕੀ ਦਾਧੀ ਲਾਕਰੀ ਠਾਢੀ ਕਰੈ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥

कबीर बन की दाधी लाकरी ठाढी करै पुकार ॥

Kabeer ban kee daadhee laakaree thaadhee karai pukaar ||

Kabeer, the forest is burning; the tree standing in it is crying out,

ਮਤਿ ਬਸਿ ਪਰਉ ਲੁਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਰੈ ਦੂਜੀ ਬਾਰ ॥੯੦॥

मति बसि परउ लुहार के जारै दूजी बार ॥९०॥

Mati basi parau luhaar ke jaarai doojee baar ||90||

"Do not let me fall into the hands of the blacksmith, who would burn me a second time." ||90||


ਕਬੀਰ ਏਕ ਮਰੰਤੇ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਏ ਦੋਇ ਮਰੰਤਹ ਚਾਰਿ ॥

कबीर एक मरंते दुइ मूए दोइ मरंतह चारि ॥

Kabeer ek marantte dui mooe doi maranttah chaari ||

Kabeer, when one died, two were dead. When two died, four were dead.

ਚਾਰਿ ਮਰੰਤਹ ਛਹ ਮੂਏ ਚਾਰਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੁਇ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੯੧॥

चारि मरंतह छह मूए चारि पुरख दुइ नारि ॥९१॥

Chaari maranttah chhah mooe chaari purakh dui naari ||91||

When four died, six were dead, four males and two females. ||91||


ਕਬੀਰ ਦੇਖਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਜਗੁ ਢੂੰਢਿਆ ਕਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਠਉਰੁ ॥

कबीर देखि देखि जगु ढूंढिआ कहूं न पाइआ ठउरु ॥

Kabeer dekhi dekhi jagu dhoonddhiaa kahoonn na paaiaa thauru ||

Kabeer, I have seen and observed, and searched all over the world, but I have found no place of rest anywhere.

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਕਹਾ ਭੁਲਾਨੇ ਅਉਰ ॥੯੨॥

जिनि हरि का नामु न चेतिओ कहा भुलाने अउर ॥९२॥

Jini hari kaa naamu na chetio kahaa bhulaane aur ||92||

Those who do not remember the Lord's Name - why do they delude themselves in other pursuits? ||92||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰੀਐ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਰਬਾਹੁ ॥

कबीर संगति करीऐ साध की अंति करै निरबाहु ॥

Kabeer sanggati kareeai saadh kee antti karai nirabaahu ||

Kabeer, associate with the Holy people, who will take you to Nirvaanaa in the end.

ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਹੁ ॥੯੩॥

साकत संगु न कीजीऐ जा ते होइ बिनाहु ॥९३॥

Saakat sanggu na keejeeai jaa te hoi binaahu ||93||

Do not associate with the faithless cynics; they would bring you to ruin. ||93||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਜਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

कबीर जग महि चेतिओ जानि कै जग महि रहिओ समाइ ॥

Kabeer jag mahi chetio jaani kai jag mahi rahio samaai ||

Kabeer, I contemplate the Lord in the world; I know that He is permeating the world.

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਬਾਦਹਿ ਜਨਮੇਂ ਆਇ ॥੯੪॥

जिन हरि का नामु न चेतिओ बादहि जनमें आइ ॥९४॥

Jin hari kaa naamu na chetio baadahi janamen aai ||94||

Those who do not contemplate the Name of the Lord - their birth into this world is useless. ||94||


ਕਬੀਰ ਆਸਾ ਕਰੀਐ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਅਵਰੈ ਆਸ ਨਿਰਾਸ ॥

कबीर आसा करीऐ राम की अवरै आस निरास ॥

Kabeer aasaa kareeai raam kee avarai aas niraas ||

Kabeer, place your hopes in the Lord; other hopes lead to despair.

ਨਰਕਿ ਪਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਮਾਨਈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੯੫॥

नरकि परहि ते मानई जो हरि नाम उदास ॥९५॥

Naraki parahi te maanaee jo hari naam udaas ||95||

Those who dissociate themselves from the Lord's Name - when they fall into hell, then they will appreciate its value. ||95||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਿਖ ਸਾਖਾ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਕੀਏ ਕੇਸੋ ਕੀਓ ਨ ਮੀਤੁ ॥

कबीर सिख साखा बहुते कीए केसो कीओ न मीतु ॥

Kabeer sikh saakhaa bahute keee keso keeo na meetu ||

Kabeer has made many students and disciples, but he has not made God his friend.

ਚਾਲੇ ਥੇ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਨ ਕਉ ਬੀਚੈ ਅਟਕਿਓ ਚੀਤੁ ॥੯੬॥

चाले थे हरि मिलन कउ बीचै अटकिओ चीतु ॥९६॥

Chaale the hari milan kau beechai atakio cheetu ||96||

He set out on a journey to meet the Lord, but his consciousness failed him half-way. ||96||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਰਨੁ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ਜਉ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਰੈ ਸਹਾਇ ॥

कबीर कारनु बपुरा किआ करै जउ रामु न करै सहाइ ॥

Kabeer kaaranu bapuraa kiaa karai jau raamu na karai sahaai ||

Kabeer, what can the poor creature do, if the Lord does not give him assistance?

ਜਿਹ ਜਿਹ ਡਾਲੀ ਪਗੁ ਧਰਉ ਸੋਈ ਮੁਰਿ ਮੁਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੯੭॥

जिह जिह डाली पगु धरउ सोई मुरि मुरि जाइ ॥९७॥

Jih jih daalee pagu dharau soee muri muri jaai ||97||

Whatever branch he steps on breaks and collapses. ||97||


ਕਬੀਰ ਅਵਰਹ ਕਉ ਉਪਦੇਸਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਮੈ ਪਰਿ ਹੈ ਰੇਤੁ ॥

कबीर अवरह कउ उपदेसते मुख मै परि है रेतु ॥

Kabeer avarah kau upadesate mukh mai pari hai retu ||

Kabeer, those who only preach to others - sand falls into their mouths.

ਰਾਸਿ ਬਿਰਾਨੀ ਰਾਖਤੇ ਖਾਯਾ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਖੇਤੁ ॥੯੮॥

रासि बिरानी राखते खाया घर का खेतु ॥९८॥

Raasi biraanee raakhate khaayaa ghar kaa khetu ||98||

They keep their eyes on the property of others, while their own farm is being eaten up. ||98||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਹਉ ਜਉ ਕੀ ਭੂਸੀ ਖਾਉ ॥

कबीर साधू की संगति रहउ जउ की भूसी खाउ ॥

Kabeer saadhoo kee sanggati rahau jau kee bhoosee khaau ||

Kabeer, I will remain in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, even if I have only coarse bread to eat.

ਹੋਨਹਾਰੁ ਸੋ ਹੋਇਹੈ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਉ ॥੯੯॥

होनहारु सो होइहै साकत संगि न जाउ ॥९९॥

Honahaaru so hoihai saakat sanggi na jaau ||99||

Whatever will be, will be. I will not associate with the faithless cynics. ||99||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਦਿਨ ਦਿਨ ਦੂਨਾ ਹੇਤੁ ॥

कबीर संगति साध की दिन दिन दूना हेतु ॥

Kabeer sanggati saadh kee din din doonaa hetu ||

Kabeer, in the Saadh Sangat, love for the Lord doubles day by day.

ਸਾਕਤ ਕਾਰੀ ਕਾਂਬਰੀ ਧੋਏ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਸੇਤੁ ॥੧੦੦॥

साकत कारी कांबरी धोए होइ न सेतु ॥१००॥

Saakat kaaree kaambaree dhoe hoi na setu ||100||

The faithless cynic is like a black blanket, which does not become white by being washed. ||100||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਮੂੰਡਿਆ ਨਹੀ ਕੇਸ ਮੁੰਡਾਏ ਕਾਂਇ ॥

कबीर मनु मूंडिआ नही केस मुंडाए कांइ ॥

Kabeer manu moonddiaa nahee kes munddaae kaani ||

Kabeer, you have not shaved your mind, so why do you shave your head?

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਮੂੰਡਾ ਮੂੰਡੁ ਅਜਾਂਇ ॥੧੦੧॥

जो किछु कीआ सो मन कीआ मूंडा मूंडु अजांइ ॥१०१॥

Jo kichhu keeaa so man keeaa moonddaa moonddu ajaani ||101||

Whatever is done, is done by the mind; it is useless to shave your head. ||101||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡੀਐ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਜਾਉ ॥

कबीर रामु न छोडीऐ तनु धनु जाइ त जाउ ॥

Kabeer raamu na chhodeeai tanu dhanu jaai ta jaau ||

Kabeer, do not abandon the Lord; your body and wealth shall go, so let them go.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਚਿਤੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਰਾਮਹਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੧੦੨॥

चरन कमल चितु बेधिआ रामहि नामि समाउ ॥१०२॥

Charan kamal chitu bedhiaa raamahi naami samaau ||102||

My consciousness is pierced by the Lord's Lotus Feet; I am absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||102||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜੋ ਹਮ ਜੰਤੁ ਬਜਾਵਤੇ ਟੂਟਿ ਗਈਂ ਸਭ ਤਾਰ ॥

कबीर जो हम जंतु बजावते टूटि गईं सभ तार ॥

Kabeer jo ham janttu bajaavate tooti gaeen sabh taar ||

Kabeer, all the strings of the instrument I played are broken.

ਜੰਤੁ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ਚਲੇ ਬਜਾਵਨਹਾਰ ॥੧੦੩॥

जंतु बिचारा किआ करै चले बजावनहार ॥१०३॥

Janttu bichaaraa kiaa karai chale bajaavanahaar ||103||

What can the poor instrument do, when the player has departed as well. ||103||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਇ ਮੂੰਡਉ ਤਿਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर माइ मूंडउ तिह गुरू की जा ते भरमु न जाइ ॥

Kabeer maai moonddau tih guroo kee jaa te bharamu na jaai ||

Kabeer, shave the mother of that guru, who does not take away one's doubt.

ਆਪ ਡੁਬੇ ਚਹੁ ਬੇਦ ਮਹਿ ਚੇਲੇ ਦੀਏ ਬਹਾਇ ॥੧੦੪॥

आप डुबे चहु बेद महि चेले दीए बहाइ ॥१०४॥

Aap dube chahu bed mahi chele deee bahaai ||104||

He himself is drowning in the four Vedas; he drowns his disciples as well. ||104||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜੇਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਏ ਰਾਖੇ ਤਲੈ ਦੁਰਾਇ ॥

कबीर जेते पाप कीए राखे तलै दुराइ ॥

Kabeer jete paap keee raakhe talai duraai ||

Kabeer, whatever sins the mortal has committed, he tries to keep hidden under cover.

ਪਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਸਭ ਜਬ ਪੂਛੇ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੧੦੫॥

परगट भए निदान सभ जब पूछे धरम राइ ॥१०५॥

Paragat bhae nidaan sabh jab poochhe dharam raai ||105||

But in the end, they shall all be revealed, when the Righteous Judge of Dharma investigates. ||105||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਪਾਲਿਓ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ॥

कबीर हरि का सिमरनु छाडि कै पालिओ बहुतु कुट्मबु ॥

Kabeer hari kaa simaranu chhaadi kai paalio bahutu kutambbu ||

Kabeer, you have given up meditating on the Lord, and you have raised a large family.

ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਰਹਿਆ ਨ ਬੰਧੁ ॥੧੦੬॥

धंधा करता रहि गइआ भाई रहिआ न बंधु ॥१०६॥

Dhanddhaa karataa rahi gaiaa bhaaee rahiaa na banddhu ||106||

You continue to involve yourself in worldly affairs, but none of your brothers and relatives remain. ||106||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਰਾਤਿ ਜਗਾਵਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर हरि का सिमरनु छाडि कै राति जगावन जाइ ॥

Kabeer hari kaa simaranu chhaadi kai raati jagaavan jaai ||

Kabeer, those who give up meditation on the Lord, and get up at night to wake the spirits of the dead,

ਸਰਪਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਅਉਤਰੈ ਜਾਏ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਖਾਇ ॥੧੦੭॥

सरपनि होइ कै अउतरै जाए अपुने खाइ ॥१०७॥

Sarapani hoi kai autarai jaae apune khaai ||107||

Shall be reincarnated as snakes, and eat their own offspring. ||107||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਅਹੋਈ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

कबीर हरि का सिमरनु छाडि कै अहोई राखै नारि ॥

Kabeer hari kaa simaranu chhaadi kai ahoee raakhai naari ||

Kabeer, the woman who gives up meditation on the Lord, and observes the ritual fast of Ahoi,

ਗਦਹੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਅਉਤਰੈ ਭਾਰੁ ਸਹੈ ਮਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥੧੦੮॥

गदही होइ कै अउतरै भारु सहै मन चारि ॥१०८॥

Gadahee hoi kai autarai bhaaru sahai man chaari ||108||

Shall be reincarnated as a donkey, to carry heavy burdens. ||108||


ਕਬੀਰ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਅਤਿ ਘਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

कबीर चतुराई अति घनी हरि जपि हिरदै माहि ॥

Kabeer chaturaaee ati ghanee hari japi hiradai maahi ||

Kabeer, it is the most clever wisdom, to chant and meditate on the Lord in the heart.

ਸੂਰੀ ਊਪਰਿ ਖੇਲਨਾ ਗਿਰੈ ਤ ਠਾਹਰ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧੦੯॥

सूरी ऊपरि खेलना गिरै त ठाहर नाहि ॥१०९॥

Sooree upari khelanaa girai ta thaahar naahi ||109||

It is like playing on a pig; if you fall off, you will find no place of rest. ||109||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੋੁਈ ਮੁਖੁ ਧੰਨਿ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਰਾਮੁ ॥

कबीर सोई मुखु धंनि है जा मुखि कहीऐ रामु ॥

Kabeer saoee mukhu dhanni hai jaa mukhi kaheeai raamu ||

Kabeer, blessed is that mouth, which utters the Lord's Name.

ਦੇਹੀ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਬਾਪੁਰੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਗ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥੧੧੦॥

देही किस की बापुरी पवित्रु होइगो ग्रामु ॥११०॥

Dehee kis kee baapuree pavitru hoigo graamu ||110||

It purifies the body, and the whole village as well. ||110||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੋਈ ਕੁਲ ਭਲੀ ਜਾ ਕੁਲ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਦਾਸੁ ॥

कबीर सोई कुल भली जा कुल हरि को दासु ॥

Kabeer soee kul bhalee jaa kul hari ko daasu ||

Kabeer, that family is good, in which the Lord's slave is born.

ਜਿਹ ਕੁਲ ਦਾਸੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਸੋ ਕੁਲ ਢਾਕੁ ਪਲਾਸੁ ॥੧੧੧॥

जिह कुल दासु न ऊपजै सो कुल ढाकु पलासु ॥१११॥

Jih kul daasu na upajai so kul dhaaku palaasu ||111||

But that family in which the Lord's slave is not born is as useless as weeds. ||111||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹੈ ਗਇ ਬਾਹਨ ਸਘਨ ਘਨ ਲਾਖ ਧਜਾ ਫਹਰਾਹਿ ॥

कबीर है गइ बाहन सघन घन लाख धजा फहराहि ॥

Kabeer hai gai baahan saghan ghan laakh dhajaa phaharaahi ||

Kabeer, some have lots of horses, elephants and carriages, and thousands of banners waving.

ਇਆ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਭਿਖੵਾ ਭਲੀ ਜਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦਿਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧੧੨॥

इआ सुख ते भिख्या भली जउ हरि सिमरत दिन जाहि ॥११२॥

Iaa sukh te bhikhyaa bhalee jau hari simarat din jaahi ||112||

But begging is better than these comforts, if one spends his days meditating in remembrance on the Lord. ||112||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਉ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਮਾਂਦਲੁ ਕੰਧ ਚਢਾਇ ॥

कबीर सभु जगु हउ फिरिओ मांदलु कंध चढाइ ॥

Kabeer sabhu jagu hau phirio maandalu kanddh chadhaai ||

Kabeer, I have wandered all over the world, carrying the drum on my shoulder.

ਕੋਈ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੇਖੀ ਠੋਕਿ ਬਜਾਇ ॥੧੧੩॥

कोई काहू को नही सभ देखी ठोकि बजाइ ॥११३॥

Koee kaahoo ko nahee sabh dekhee thoki bajaai ||113||

No one belongs to anyone else; I have looked and carefully studied it. ||113||


ਮਾਰਗਿ ਮੋਤੀ ਬੀਥਰੇ ਅੰਧਾ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਆਇ ॥

मारगि मोती बीथरे अंधा निकसिओ आइ ॥

Maaragi motee beethare anddhaa nikasio aai ||

The pearls are scattered on the road; the blind man comes along.

ਜੋਤਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਕੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਲੰਘੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੧੪॥

जोति बिना जगदीस की जगतु उलंघे जाइ ॥११४॥

Joti binaa jagadees kee jagatu ulangghe jaai ||114||

Without the Light of the Lord of the Universe, the world just passes them by. ||114||


ਬੂਡਾ ਬੰਸੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਪੂਤੁ ਕਮਾਲੁ ॥

बूडा बंसु कबीर का उपजिओ पूतु कमालु ॥

Boodaa banssu kabeer kaa upajio pootu kamaalu ||

My family is drowned, O Kabeer, since the birth of my son Kamaal.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਲੇ ਆਯਾ ਮਾਲੁ ॥੧੧੫॥

हरि का सिमरनु छाडि कै घरि ले आया मालु ॥११५॥

Hari kaa simaranu chhaadi kai ghari le aayaa maalu ||115||

He has given up meditating on the Lord, in order to bring home wealth. ||115||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਨੇ ਜਾਈਐ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਲੀਜੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर साधू कउ मिलने जाईऐ साथि न लीजै कोइ ॥

Kabeer saadhoo kau milane jaaeeai saathi na leejai koi ||

Kabeer, go out to meet the holy man; do not take anyone else with you.

ਪਾਛੈ ਪਾਉ ਨ ਦੀਜੀਐ ਆਗੈ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੧੬॥

पाछै पाउ न दीजीऐ आगै होइ सु होइ ॥११६॥

Paachhai paau na deejeeai aagai hoi su hoi ||116||

Do not turn back - keep on going. Whatever will be, will be. ||116||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਜਿਹ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਮਤ ਬੰਧਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ॥

कबीर जगु बाधिओ जिह जेवरी तिह मत बंधहु कबीर ॥

Kabeer jagu baadhio jih jevaree tih mat banddhahu kabeer ||

Kabeer, do not bind yourself with that chain, which binds the whole world.

ਜੈਹਹਿ ਆਟਾ ਲੋਨ ਜਿਉ ਸੋਨ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੧੧੭॥

जैहहि आटा लोन जिउ सोन समानि सरीरु ॥११७॥

Jaihahi aataa lon jiu son samaani sareeru ||117||

As the salt is lost in the flour, so shall your golden body be lost. ||117||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹੰਸੁ ਉਡਿਓ ਤਨੁ ਗਾਡਿਓ ਸੋਝਾਈ ਸੈਨਾਹ ॥

कबीर हंसु उडिओ तनु गाडिओ सोझाई सैनाह ॥

Kabeer hanssu udio tanu gaadio sojhaaee sainaah ||

Kabeer, the soul-swan is flying away, and the body is being buried, and still he makes gestures.

ਅਜਹੂ ਜੀਉ ਨ ਛੋਡਈ ਰੰਕਾਈ ਨੈਨਾਹ ॥੧੧੮॥

अजहू जीउ न छोडई रंकाई नैनाह ॥११८॥

Ajahoo jeeu na chhodaee rankkaaee nainaah ||118||

Even then, the mortal does not give up the cruel look in his eyes. ||118||


ਕਬੀਰ ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਉ ਤੁਝ ਕਉ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸੁਨਉ ਤੁਅ ਨਾਉ ॥

कबीर नैन निहारउ तुझ कउ स्रवन सुनउ तुअ नाउ ॥

Kabeer nain nihaarau tujh kau srvan sunau tua naau ||

Kabeer: with my eyes, I see You, Lord; with my ears, I hear Your Name.

ਬੈਨ ਉਚਰਉ ਤੁਅ ਨਾਮ ਜੀ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਰਿਦ ਠਾਉ ॥੧੧੯॥

बैन उचरउ तुअ नाम जी चरन कमल रिद ठाउ ॥११९॥

Bain ucharau tua naam jee charan kamal rid thaau ||119||

With my tongue I chant Your Name; I enshrine Your Lotus Feet within my heart. ||119||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਤੇ ਮੈ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

कबीर सुरग नरक ते मै रहिओ सतिगुर के परसादि ॥

Kabeer surag narak te mai rahio satigur ke parasaadi ||

Kabeer, I have been spared from heaven and hell, by the Grace of the True Guru.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਕੀ ਮਉਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਉ ਅੰਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਆਦਿ ॥੧੨੦॥

चरन कमल की मउज महि रहउ अंति अरु आदि ॥१२०॥

Charan kamal kee mauj mahi rahau antti aru aadi ||120||

From beginning to end, I abide in the joy of the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||120||


ਕਬੀਰ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਕੀ ਮਉਜ ਕੋ ਕਹਿ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਨਮਾਨ ॥

कबीर चरन कमल की मउज को कहि कैसे उनमान ॥

Kabeer charan kamal kee mauj ko kahi kaise unamaan ||

Kabeer, how can I even describe the extent of the joy of the Lord's Lotus Feet?

ਕਹਿਬੇ ਕਉ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਹੀ ਦੇਖਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੧੨੧॥

कहिबे कउ सोभा नही देखा ही परवानु ॥१२१॥

Kahibe kau sobhaa nahee dekhaa hee paravaanu ||121||

I cannot describe its sublime glory; it has to be seen to be appreciated. ||121||


ਕਬੀਰ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਕਿਹ ਕਹਉ ਕਹੇ ਨ ਕੋ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥

कबीर देखि कै किह कहउ कहे न को पतीआइ ॥

Kabeer dekhi kai kih kahau kahe na ko pateeaai ||

Kabeer, how can I describe what I have seen? No one will believe my words.

ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਉਹੀ ਰਹਉ ਹਰਖਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੧੨੨॥

हरि जैसा तैसा उही रहउ हरखि गुन गाइ ॥१२२॥

Hari jaisaa taisaa uhee rahau harakhi gun gaai ||122||

The Lord is just as He is. I dwell in delight, singing His Glorious Praises. ||122||


ਕਬੀਰ ਚੁਗੈ ਚਿਤਾਰੈ ਭੀ ਚੁਗੈ ਚੁਗਿ ਚੁਗਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ ॥

कबीर चुगै चितारै भी चुगै चुगि चुगि चितारे ॥

Kabeer chugai chitaarai bhee chugai chugi chugi chitaare ||

Kabeer, the flamingo pecks and feeds, and remembers her chicks. She pecks and pecks and feeds, and remembers them always.

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਚਰਹਿ ਕੂੰਜ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਰੇ ॥੧੨੩॥

जैसे बचरहि कूंज मन माइआ ममता रे ॥१२३॥

Jaise bacharahi koonjj man maaiaa mamataa re ||123||

Just as the chicks are very dear to flamingo, so is the love of wealth and Maya to the mortal's mind. ||123||


ਕਬੀਰ ਅੰਬਰ ਘਨਹਰੁ ਛਾਇਆ ਬਰਖਿ ਭਰੇ ਸਰ ਤਾਲ ॥

कबीर अ्मबर घनहरु छाइआ बरखि भरे सर ताल ॥

Kabeer ambbar ghanaharu chhaaiaa barakhi bhare sar taal ||

Kabeer, the sky is overcast and cloudy; the ponds and lakes are overflowing with water.

ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਜਿਉ ਤਰਸਤ ਰਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਕਉਨੁ ਹਵਾਲੁ ॥੧੨੪॥

चात्रिक जिउ तरसत रहै तिन को कउनु हवालु ॥१२४॥

Chaatrik jiu tarasat rahai tin ko kaunu havaalu ||124||

Like the rainbird, some remain thirsty - what is their condition? ||124||


ਕਬੀਰ ਚਕਈ ਜਉ ਨਿਸਿ ਬੀਛੁਰੈ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਰਭਾਤਿ ॥

कबीर चकई जउ निसि बीछुरै आइ मिलै परभाति ॥

Kabeer chakaee jau nisi beechhurai aai milai parabhaati ||

Kabeer, the chakvi duck is separated from her love through the night, but in the morning, she meets him again.

ਜੋ ਨਰ ਬਿਛੁਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਨਾ ਦਿਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੧੨੫॥

जो नर बिछुरे राम सिउ ना दिन मिले न राति ॥१२५॥

Jo nar bichhure raam siu naa din mile na raati ||125||

Those who are separated from the Lord do not meet Him in the day, or in the night. ||125||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰੈਨਾਇਰ ਬਿਛੋਰਿਆ ਰਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਖ ਮਝੂਰਿ ॥

कबीर रैनाइर बिछोरिआ रहु रे संख मझूरि ॥

Kabeer rainaair bichhoriaa rahu re sankkh majhoori ||

Kabeer: O conch shell, remain in the ocean.

ਦੇਵਲ ਦੇਵਲ ਧਾਹੜੀ ਦੇਸਹਿ ਉਗਵਤ ਸੂਰ ॥੧੨੬॥

देवल देवल धाहड़ी देसहि उगवत सूर ॥१२६॥

Deval deval dhaaha(rr)ee desahi ugavat soor ||126||

If you are separated from it, you shall scream at sunrise from temple to temple. ||126||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੂਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਾਗੁ ਰੋਇ ਭੈ ਦੁਖ ॥

कबीर सूता किआ करहि जागु रोइ भै दुख ॥

Kabeer sootaa kiaa karahi jaagu roi bhai dukh ||

Kabeer, what are you doing sleeping? Wake up and cry in fear and pain.

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਬਾਸਾ ਗੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਸੋਵੈ ਸੁਖ ॥੧੨੭॥

जा का बासा गोर महि सो किउ सोवै सुख ॥१२७॥

Jaa kaa baasaa gor mahi so kiu sovai sukh ||127||

Those who live in the grave - how can they sleep in peace? ||127||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੂਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਠਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥

कबीर सूता किआ करहि उठि कि न जपहि मुरारि ॥

Kabeer sootaa kiaa karahi uthi ki na japahi muraari ||

Kabeer, what are you doing sleeping? Why not rise up and meditate on the Lord?

ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਸੋਵਨੁ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਲਾਂਬੇ ਗੋਡ ਪਸਾਰਿ ॥੧੨੮॥

इक दिन सोवनु होइगो लांबे गोड पसारि ॥१२८॥

Ik din sovanu hoigo laambe god pasaari ||128||

One day you shall sleep with your legs outstretched. ||128||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੂਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੈਠਾ ਰਹੁ ਅਰੁ ਜਾਗੁ ॥

कबीर सूता किआ करहि बैठा रहु अरु जागु ॥

Kabeer sootaa kiaa karahi baithaa rahu aru jaagu ||

Kabeer, what are you doing sleeping? Wake up, and sit up.

ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਤੇ ਬੀਛੁਰਾ ਤਾ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੧੨੯॥

जा के संग ते बीछुरा ता ही के संगि लागु ॥१२९॥

Jaa ke sangg te beechhuraa taa hee ke sanggi laagu ||129||

Attach yourself to the One, from whom you have been separated. ||129||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਗੈਲ ਨ ਛੋਡੀਐ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਾਉ ॥

कबीर संत की गैल न छोडीऐ मारगि लागा जाउ ॥

Kabeer santt kee gail na chhodeeai maaragi laagaa jaau ||

Kabeer, do not leave the Society of the Saints; walk upon this Path.

ਪੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਪੁੰਨੀਤ ਹੋਇ ਭੇਟਤ ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਉ ॥੧੩੦॥

पेखत ही पुंनीत होइ भेटत जपीऐ नाउ ॥१३०॥

Pekhat hee punneet hoi bhetat japeeai naau ||130||

See them, and be sanctified; meet them, and chant the Name. ||130||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਦੂਰਹਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਭਾਗਿ ॥

कबीर साकत संगु न कीजीऐ दूरहि जाईऐ भागि ॥

Kabeer saakat sanggu na keejeeai doorahi jaaeeai bhaagi ||

Kabeer, do not associate with the faithless cynics; run far away from them.

ਬਾਸਨੁ ਕਾਰੋ ਪਰਸੀਐ ਤਉ ਕਛੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਾਗੁ ॥੧੩੧॥

बासनु कारो परसीऐ तउ कछु लागै दागु ॥१३१॥

Baasanu kaaro paraseeai tau kachhu laagai daagu ||131||

If you touch a vessel stained with soot, some of the soot will stick to you. ||131||


ਕਬੀਰਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਜਰਾ ਪਹੂੰਚਿਓ ਆਇ ॥

कबीरा रामु न चेतिओ जरा पहूंचिओ आइ ॥

Kabeeraa raamu na chetio jaraa pahooncchio aai ||

Kabeer, you have not contemplated the Lord, and now old age has overtaken you.

ਲਾਗੀ ਮੰਦਿਰ ਦੁਆਰ ਤੇ ਅਬ ਕਿਆ ਕਾਢਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੩੨॥

लागी मंदिर दुआर ते अब किआ काढिआ जाइ ॥१३२॥

Laagee manddir duaar te ab kiaa kaadhiaa jaai ||132||

Now that the door of your mansion is on fire, what can you take out? ||132||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਰਨੁ ਸੋ ਭਇਓ ਜੋ ਕੀਨੋ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥

कबीर कारनु सो भइओ जो कीनो करतारि ॥

Kabeer kaaranu so bhaio jo keeno karataari ||

Kabeer, the Creator does whatever He pleases.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਸਰੁ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਏਕੈ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥੧੩੩॥

तिसु बिनु दूसरु को नही एकै सिरजनहारु ॥१३३॥

Tisu binu doosaru ko nahee ekai sirajanahaaru ||133||

There is none other than Him; He alone is the Creator of all. ||133||


ਕਬੀਰ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ਫਲਨਿ ਪਾਕਨਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਆਂਬ ॥

कबीर फल लागे फलनि पाकनि लागे आंब ॥

Kabeer phal laage phalani paakani laage aamb ||

Kabeer, the fruit trees are bearing fruit, and the mangoes are becoming ripe.

ਜਾਇ ਪਹੂਚਹਿ ਖਸਮ ਕਉ ਜਉ ਬੀਚਿ ਨ ਖਾਹੀ ਕਾਂਬ ॥੧੩੪॥

जाइ पहूचहि खसम कउ जउ बीचि न खाही कांब ॥१३४॥

Jaai pahoochahi khasam kau jau beechi na khaahee kaamb ||134||

They will reach the owner, only if the crows do not eat them first. ||134||


ਕਬੀਰ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਮੋਲਿ ਲੇ ਮਨਹਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

कबीर ठाकुरु पूजहि मोलि ले मनहठि तीरथ जाहि ॥

Kabeer thaakuru poojahi moli le manahathi teerath jaahi ||

Kabeer, some buy idols and worship them; in their stubborn-mindedness, they make pilgrimages to sacred shrines.

ਦੇਖਾ ਦੇਖੀ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਗੁ ਧਰਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਭਟਕਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੧੩੫॥

देखा देखी स्वांगु धरि भूले भटका खाहि ॥१३५॥

Dekhaa dekhee svaangu dhari bhoole bhatakaa khaahi ||135||

They look at one another, and wear religious robes, but they are deluded and lost. ||135||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਹਨੁ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਪੂਜੈ ਸਭੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

कबीर पाहनु परमेसुरु कीआ पूजै सभु संसारु ॥

Kabeer paahanu paramesuru keeaa poojai sabhu sanssaaru ||

Kabeer, someone sets up a stone idol and all the world worships it as the Lord.

ਇਸ ਭਰਵਾਸੇ ਜੋ ਰਹੇ ਬੂਡੇ ਕਾਲੀ ਧਾਰ ॥੧੩੬॥

इस भरवासे जो रहे बूडे काली धार ॥१३६॥

Is bharavaase jo rahe boode kaalee dhaar ||136||

Those who hold to this belief will be drowned in the river of darkness. ||136||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਗਦ ਕੀ ਓਬਰੀ ਮਸੁ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਪਾਟ ॥

कबीर कागद की ओबरी मसु के करम कपाट ॥

Kabeer kaagad kee obaree masu ke karam kapaat ||

Kabeer, the paper is the prison, and the ink of rituals are the bars on the windows.

ਪਾਹਨ ਬੋਰੀ ਪਿਰਥਮੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪਾੜੀ ਬਾਟ ॥੧੩੭॥

पाहन बोरी पिरथमी पंडित पाड़ी बाट ॥१३७॥

Paahan boree pirathamee panddit paa(rr)ee baat ||137||

The stone idols have drowned the world, and the Pandits, the religious scholars, have plundered it on the way. ||137||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਲਿ ਕਰੰਤਾ ਅਬਹਿ ਕਰੁ ਅਬ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੁਇ ਤਾਲ ॥

कबीर कालि करंता अबहि करु अब करता सुइ ताल ॥

Kabeer kaali karanttaa abahi karu ab karataa sui taal ||

Kabeer, that which you have to do tomorrow - do it today instead; and that which you have to do now - do it immediately!

ਪਾਛੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇਗਾ ਜਉ ਸਿਰ ਪਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਲੁ ॥੧੩੮॥

पाछै कछू न होइगा जउ सिर परि आवै कालु ॥१३८॥

Paachhai kachhoo na hoigaa jau sir pari aavai kaalu ||138||

Later on, you will not be able to do anything, when death hangs over your head. ||138||


ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਜੰਤੁ ਇਕੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜੈਸੀ ਧੋਈ ਲਾਖ ॥

कबीर ऐसा जंतु इकु देखिआ जैसी धोई लाख ॥

Kabeer aisaa janttu iku dekhiaa jaisee dhoee laakh ||

Kabeer, I have seen a person, who is as shiny as washed wax.

ਦੀਸੈ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਨਾ ਮਤਿ ਹੀਨਾ ਨਾਪਾਕ ॥੧੩੯॥

दीसै चंचलु बहु गुना मति हीना नापाक ॥१३९॥

Deesai chancchalu bahu gunaa mati heenaa naapaak ||139||

He seems very clever and very virtuous, but in reality, he is without understanding, and corrupt. ||139||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਕਉ ਜਮੁ ਨ ਕਰੈ ਤਿਸਕਾਰ ॥

कबीर मेरी बुधि कउ जमु न करै तिसकार ॥

Kabeer meree budhi kau jamu na karai tisakaar ||

Kabeer, the Messenger of Death shall not compromise my understanding.

ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਜਮੂਆ ਸਿਰਜਿਆ ਸੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਪਰਵਿਦਗਾਰ ॥੧੪੦॥

जिनि इहु जमूआ सिरजिआ सु जपिआ परविदगार ॥१४०॥

Jini ihu jamooaa sirajiaa su japiaa paravidagaar ||140||

I have meditated on the Lord, the Cherisher, who created this Messenger of Death. ||140||


ਕਬੀਰੁ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਭਇਆ ਭਵਰ ਭਏ ਸਭ ਦਾਸ ॥

कबीरु कसतूरी भइआ भवर भए सभ दास ॥

Kabeeru kasatooree bhaiaa bhavar bhae sabh daas ||

Kabeer, the Lord is like musk; all His slaves are like bumble bees.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਕੀ ਤਿਉ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥੧੪੧॥

जिउ जिउ भगति कबीर की तिउ तिउ राम निवास ॥१४१॥

Jiu jiu bhagati kabeer kee tiu tiu raam nivaas ||141||

The more Kabeer worships Him, the more the Lord abides within his mind. ||141||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗਹਗਚਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਕੈ ਕਾਂਠੈ ਰਹਿ ਗਇਓ ਰਾਮੁ ॥

कबीर गहगचि परिओ कुट्मब कै कांठै रहि गइओ रामु ॥

Kabeer gahagachi pario kutambb kai kaanthai rahi gaio raamu ||

Kabeer, the mortal has fallen into the grip of family life, and the Lord has been set aside.

ਆਇ ਪਰੇ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੇ ਬੀਚਹਿ ਧੂਮਾ ਧਾਮ ॥੧੪੨॥

आइ परे धरम राइ के बीचहि धूमा धाम ॥१४२॥

Aai pare dharam raai ke beechahi dhoomaa dhaam ||142||

The messengers of the Righteous Judge of Dharma descend upon the mortal, in the midst of all his pomp and ceremony. ||142||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਕਤ ਤੇ ਸੂਕਰ ਭਲਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਛਾ ਗਾਉ ॥

कबीर साकत ते सूकर भला राखै आछा गाउ ॥

Kabeer saakat te sookar bhalaa raakhai aachhaa gaau ||

Kabeer, even a pig is better than the faithless cynic; at least the pig keeps the village clean.

ਉਹੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਮਰਿ ਗਇਆ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਲੈਹੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧੪੩॥

उहु साकतु बपुरा मरि गइआ कोइ न लैहै नाउ ॥१४३॥

Uhu saakatu bapuraa mari gaiaa koi na laihai naau ||143||

When the wretched, faithless cynic dies, no one even mentions his name. ||143||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਉਡੀ ਕਉਡੀ ਜੋਰਿ ਕੈ ਜੋਰੇ ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰਿ ॥

कबीर कउडी कउडी जोरि कै जोरे लाख करोरि ॥

Kabeer kaudee kaudee jori kai jore laakh karori ||

Kabeer, the mortal gathers wealth, shell by shell, accumulating thousands and millions.

ਚਲਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਕਛੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਲਈ ਲੰਗੋਟੀ ਤੋਰਿ ॥੧੪੪॥

चलती बार न कछु मिलिओ लई लंगोटी तोरि ॥१४४॥

Chalatee baar na kachhu milio laee langgotee tori ||144||

But when the time of his departure comes, he takes nothing at all with him. He is even stripped of his loin-cloth. ||144||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਹੂਆ ਤ ਕਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਮਾਲਾ ਮੇਲੀਂ ਚਾਰਿ ॥

कबीर बैसनो हूआ त किआ भइआ माला मेलीं चारि ॥

Kabeer baisano hooaa ta kiaa bhaiaa maalaa meleen chaari ||

Kabeer, what good is it to become a devotee of Vishnu, and wear four malas?

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਬਾਰਹਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਭਰੀ ਭੰਗਾਰ ॥੧੪੫॥

बाहरि कंचनु बारहा भीतरि भरी भंगार ॥१४५॥

Baahari kancchanu baarahaa bheetari bharee bhanggaar ||145||

On the outside, he may look like pure gold, but on the inside, he is stuffed with dust. ||145||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰੋੜਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੁ ਬਾਟ ਕਾ ਤਜਿ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

कबीर रोड़ा होइ रहु बाट का तजि मन का अभिमानु ॥

Kabeer ro(rr)aa hoi rahu baat kaa taji man kaa abhimaanu ||

Kabeer, let yourself be a pebble on the path; abandon your egotistical pride.

ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਤਾਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੧੪੬॥

ऐसा कोई दासु होइ ताहि मिलै भगवानु ॥१४६॥

Aisaa koee daasu hoi taahi milai bhagavaanu ||146||

Such a humble slave shall meet the Lord God. ||146||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰੋੜਾ ਹੂਆ ਤ ਕਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਪੰਥੀ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਇ ॥

कबीर रोड़ा हूआ त किआ भइआ पंथी कउ दुखु देइ ॥

Kabeer ro(rr)aa hooaa ta kiaa bhaiaa pantthee kau dukhu dei ||

Kabeer, what good would it be, to be a pebble? It would only hurt the traveler on the path.

ਐਸਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਉ ਧਰਨੀ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਹ ॥੧੪੭॥

ऐसा तेरा दासु है जिउ धरनी महि खेह ॥१४७॥

Aisaa teraa daasu hai jiu dharanee mahi kheh ||147||

Your slave, O Lord, is like the dust of the earth. ||147||


ਕਬੀਰ ਖੇਹ ਹੂਈ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਜਉ ਉਡਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਅੰਗ ॥

कबीर खेह हूई तउ किआ भइआ जउ उडि लागै अंग ॥

Kabeer kheh hooee tau kiaa bhaiaa jau udi laagai angg ||

Kabeer, what then, if one could become dust? It is blown up by the wind, and sticks to the body.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਚਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਉ ਪਾਨੀ ਸਰਬੰਗ ॥੧੪੮॥

हरि जनु ऐसा चाहीऐ जिउ पानी सरबंग ॥१४८॥

Hari janu aisaa chaaheeai jiu paanee sarabangg ||148||

The humble servant of the Lord should be like water, which cleans everything. ||148||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਨੀ ਹੂਆ ਤ ਕਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਸੀਰਾ ਤਾਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

कबीर पानी हूआ त किआ भइआ सीरा ताता होइ ॥

Kabeer paanee hooaa ta kiaa bhaiaa seeraa taataa hoi ||

Kabeer, what then, if one could become water? It becomes cold, then hot.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਚਾਹੀਐ ਜੈਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੪੯॥

हरि जनु ऐसा चाहीऐ जैसा हरि ही होइ ॥१४९॥

Hari janu aisaa chaaheeai jaisaa hari hee hoi ||149||

The humble servant of the Lord should be just like the Lord. ||149||


ਊਚ ਭਵਨ ਕਨਕਾਮਨੀ ਸਿਖਰਿ ਧਜਾ ਫਹਰਾਇ ॥

ऊच भवन कनकामनी सिखरि धजा फहराइ ॥

Uch bhavan kanakaamanee sikhari dhajaa phaharaai ||

The banners wave above the lofty mansions, filled with gold and beautiful women.

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਭਲੀ ਮਧੂਕਰੀ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੧੫੦॥

ता ते भली मधूकरी संतसंगि गुन गाइ ॥१५०॥

Taa te bhalee madhookaree santtasanggi gun gaai ||150||

But better than these is dry bread, if one sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord in the Society of the Saints. ||150||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਟਨ ਤੇ ਊਜਰੁ ਭਲਾ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਹ ਠਾਇ ॥

कबीर पाटन ते ऊजरु भला राम भगत जिह ठाइ ॥

Kabeer paatan te ujaru bhalaa raam bhagat jih thaai ||

Kabeer, the wilderness is better than a city, if the Lord's devotees live there.

ਰਾਮ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਜਮ ਪੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਂਇ ॥੧੫੧॥

राम सनेही बाहरा जम पुरु मेरे भांइ ॥१५१॥

Raam sanehee baaharaa jam puru mere bhaani ||151||

Without my Beloved Lord, it is like the City of Death for me. ||151||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗੰਗ ਜਮੁਨ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰੇ ਸਹਜ ਸੁੰਨ ਕੇ ਘਾਟ ॥

कबीर गंग जमुन के अंतरे सहज सुंन के घाट ॥

Kabeer gangg jamun ke anttare sahaj sunn ke ghaat ||

Kabeer, between the Ganges and Jamunaa Rivers, on the shore of Celestial Silence,

ਤਹਾ ਕਬੀਰੈ ਮਟੁ ਕੀਆ ਖੋਜਤ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਬਾਟ ॥੧੫੨॥

तहा कबीरै मटु कीआ खोजत मुनि जन बाट ॥१५२॥

Tahaa kabeerai matu keeaa khojat muni jan baat ||152||

There, Kabeer has made his home. The silent sages and the humble servants of the Lord search for the way to get there. ||152||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜੈਸੀ ਉਪਜੀ ਪੇਡ ਤੇ ਜਉ ਤੈਸੀ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਓੜਿ ॥

कबीर जैसी उपजी पेड ते जउ तैसी निबहै ओड़ि ॥

Kabeer jaisee upajee ped te jau taisee nibahai o(rr)i ||

Kabeer, if the mortal continues to love the Lord in the end, as he pledged in the beginning,

ਹੀਰਾ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਬਾਪੁਰਾ ਪੁਜਹਿ ਨ ਰਤਨ ਕਰੋੜਿ ॥੧੫੩॥

हीरा किस का बापुरा पुजहि न रतन करोड़ि ॥१५३॥

Heeraa kis kaa baapuraa pujahi na ratan karo(rr)i ||153||

No poor diamond, not even millions of jewels, can equal him. ||153||


ਕਬੀਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਅਚੰਭਉ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਹੀਰਾ ਹਾਟ ਬਿਕਾਇ ॥

कबीरा एकु अच्मभउ देखिओ हीरा हाट बिकाइ ॥

Kabeeraa eku achambbhau dekhio heeraa haat bikaai ||

Kabeer, I saw a strange and wonderful thing. A jewel was being sold in a store.

ਬਨਜਨਹਾਰੇ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੫੪॥

बनजनहारे बाहरा कउडी बदलै जाइ ॥१५४॥

Banajanahaare baaharaa kaudee badalai jaai ||154||

Because there was no buyer, it was going in exchange for a shell. ||154||


ਕਬੀਰਾ ਜਹਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਹ ਧਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਹਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਤਹ ਪਾਪੁ ॥

कबीरा जहा गिआनु तह धरमु है जहा झूठु तह पापु ॥

Kabeeraa jahaa giaanu tah dharamu hai jahaa jhoothu tah paapu ||

Kabeer, where there is spiritual wisdom, there is righteousness and Dharma. Where there is falsehood, there is sin.

ਜਹਾ ਲੋਭੁ ਤਹ ਕਾਲੁ ਹੈ ਜਹਾ ਖਿਮਾ ਤਹ ਆਪਿ ॥੧੫੫॥

जहा लोभु तह कालु है जहा खिमा तह आपि ॥१५५॥

Jahaa lobhu tah kaalu hai jahaa khimaa tah aapi ||155||

Where there is greed, there is death. Where there is forgiveness, there is God Himself. ||155||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਜੀ ਤ ਕਿਆ ਭਇਆ ਜਉ ਮਾਨੁ ਤਜਿਆ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर माइआ तजी त किआ भइआ जउ मानु तजिआ नही जाइ ॥

Kabeer maaiaa tajee ta kiaa bhaiaa jau maanu tajiaa nahee jaai ||

Kabeer, what good is it to give up Maya, if the mortal does not give up his pride?

ਮਾਨ ਮੁਨੀ ਮੁਨਿਵਰ ਗਲੇ ਮਾਨੁ ਸਭੈ ਕਉ ਖਾਇ ॥੧੫੬॥

मान मुनी मुनिवर गले मानु सभै कउ खाइ ॥१५६॥

Maan munee munivar gale maanu sabhai kau khaai ||156||

Even the silent sages and seers are destroyed by pride; pride eats up everything. ||156||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਜੁ ਬਾਹਿਆ ਏਕੁ ॥

कबीर साचा सतिगुरु मै मिलिआ सबदु जु बाहिआ एकु ॥

Kabeer saachaa satiguru mai miliaa sabadu ju baahiaa eku ||

Kabeer, the True Guru has met me; He aimed the Arrow of the Shabad at me.

ਲਾਗਤ ਹੀ ਭੁਇ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਕਲੇਜੇ ਛੇਕੁ ॥੧੫੭॥

लागत ही भुइ मिलि गइआ परिआ कलेजे छेकु ॥१५७॥

Laagat hee bhui mili gaiaa pariaa kaleje chheku ||157||

As soon as it struck me, I fell to the ground with a hole in my heart. ||157||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ਜਉ ਸਿਖਾ ਮਹਿ ਚੂਕ ॥

कबीर साचा सतिगुरु किआ करै जउ सिखा महि चूक ॥

Kabeer saachaa satiguru kiaa karai jau sikhaa mahi chook ||

Kabeer, what can the True Guru do, when His Sikhs are at fault?

ਅੰਧੇ ਏਕ ਨ ਲਾਗਈ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਂਸੁ ਬਜਾਈਐ ਫੂਕ ॥੧੫੮॥

अंधे एक न लागई जिउ बांसु बजाईऐ फूक ॥१५८॥

Anddhe ek na laagaee jiu baansu bajaaeeai phook ||158||

The blind do not take in any of His Teachings; it is as useless as blowing into bamboo. ||158||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹੈ ਗੈ ਬਾਹਨ ਸਘਨ ਘਨ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤੀ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

कबीर है गै बाहन सघन घन छत्रपती की नारि ॥

Kabeer hai gai baahan saghan ghan chhatrpatee kee naari ||

Kabeer, the wife of the king has all sorts of horses, elephants and carriages.

ਤਾਸੁ ਪਟੰਤਰ ਨਾ ਪੁਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪਨਿਹਾਰਿ ॥੧੫੯॥

तासु पटंतर ना पुजै हरि जन की पनिहारि ॥१५९॥

Taasu patanttar naa pujai hari jan kee panihaari ||159||

But she is not equal to the water-carrier of the Lord's humble servant. ||159||


ਕਬੀਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨਾਰੀ ਕਿਉ ਨਿੰਦੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਰੀ ਕਉ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

कबीर न्रिप नारी किउ निंदीऐ किउ हरि चेरी कउ मानु ॥

Kabeer nrip naaree kiu ninddeeai kiu hari cheree kau maanu ||

Kabeer, why do you slander the wife of the king? Why do you honor the slave of the Lord?

ਓਹ ਮਾਂਗ ਸਵਾਰੈ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਉ ਓਹ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧੬੦॥

ओह मांग सवारै बिखै कउ ओह सिमरै हरि नामु ॥१६०॥

Oh maang savaarai bikhai kau oh simarai hari naamu ||160||

Because one combs her hair for corruption, while the other remembers the Name of the Lord. ||160||


ਕਬੀਰ ਥੂਨੀ ਪਾਈ ਥਿਤਿ ਭਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧੀ ਧੀਰ ॥

कबीर थूनी पाई थिति भई सतिगुर बंधी धीर ॥

Kabeer thoonee paaee thiti bhaee satigur banddhee dheer ||

Kabeer, with the Support of the Lord's Pillar, I have become steady and stable.

ਕਬੀਰ ਹੀਰਾ ਬਨਜਿਆ ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਤੀਰ ॥੧੬੧॥

कबीर हीरा बनजिआ मान सरोवर तीर ॥१६१॥

Kabeer heeraa banajiaa maan sarovar teer ||161||

The True Guru has given me courage. Kabeer, I have purchased the diamond, on the banks of the Mansarovar Lake. ||161||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਜਨ ਜਉਹਰੀ ਲੇ ਕੈ ਮਾਂਡੈ ਹਾਟ ॥

कबीर हरि हीरा जन जउहरी ले कै मांडै हाट ॥

Kabeer hari heeraa jan jauharee le kai maandai haat ||

Kabeer, the Lord is the Diamond, and the Lord's humble servant is the jeweler who has set up his shop.

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਤਬ ਹੀਰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਟ ॥੧੬੨॥

जब ही पाईअहि पारखू तब हीरन की साट ॥१६२॥

Jab hee paaeeahi paarakhoo tab heeran kee saat ||162||

As soon as an appraiser is found, the price of the jewel is set. ||162||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਮ ਪਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਐਸਾ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਨਿਤ ॥

कबीर काम परे हरि सिमरीऐ ऐसा सिमरहु नित ॥

Kabeer kaam pare hari simareeai aisaa simarahu nit ||

Kabeer, you remember the Lord in meditation, only when the need arises. You should remember Him all the time.

ਅਮਰਾ ਪੁਰ ਬਾਸਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗਇਆ ਬਹੋਰੈ ਬਿਤ ॥੧੬੩॥

अमरा पुर बासा करहु हरि गइआ बहोरै बित ॥१६३॥

Amaraa pur baasaa karahu hari gaiaa bahorai bit ||163||

You shall dwell in the city of immortality, and the Lord shall restore the wealth you lost. ||163||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਉ ਦੁਇ ਭਲੇ ਏਕੁ ਸੰਤੁ ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ॥

कबीर सेवा कउ दुइ भले एकु संतु इकु रामु ॥

Kabeer sevaa kau dui bhale eku santtu iku raamu ||

Kabeer, it is good to perform selfless service for two - the Saints and the Lord.

ਰਾਮੁ ਜੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕੋ ਸੰਤੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧੬੪॥

रामु जु दाता मुकति को संतु जपावै नामु ॥१६४॥

Raamu ju daataa mukati ko santtu japaavai naamu ||164||

The Lord is the Giver of liberation, and the Saint inspires us to chant the Naam. ||164||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਗਏ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰੀ ਬਹੀਰ ॥

कबीर जिह मारगि पंडित गए पाछै परी बहीर ॥

Kabeer jih maaragi panddit gae paachhai paree baheer ||

Kabeer, the crowds follow the path which the Pandits, the religious scholars, have taken.

ਇਕ ਅਵਘਟ ਘਾਟੀ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਤਿਹ ਚੜਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧੬੫॥

इक अवघट घाटी राम की तिह चड़ि रहिओ कबीर ॥१६५॥

Ik avaghat ghaatee raam kee tih cha(rr)i rahio kabeer ||165||

There is a difficult and treacherous cliff on that path to the Lord; Kabeer is climbing that cliff. ||165||


ਕਬੀਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇ ਦੋਖੇ ਮੂਆ ਚਾਲਤ ਕੁਲ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ॥

कबीर दुनीआ के दोखे मूआ चालत कुल की कानि ॥

Kabeer duneeaa ke dokhe mooaa chaalat kul kee kaani ||

Kabeer, the mortal dies of his worldly troubles and pain, after worrying about his family.

ਤਬ ਕੁਲੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਲਾਜਸੀ ਜਬ ਲੇ ਧਰਹਿ ਮਸਾਨਿ ॥੧੬੬॥

तब कुलु किस का लाजसी जब ले धरहि मसानि ॥१६६॥

Tab kulu kis kaa laajasee jab le dharahi masaani ||166||

Whose family is dishonored, when he is placed on the funeral pyre? ||166||


ਕਬੀਰ ਡੂਬਹਿਗੋ ਰੇ ਬਾਪੁਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ॥

कबीर डूबहिगो रे बापुरे बहु लोगन की कानि ॥

Kabeer doobahigo re baapure bahu logan kee kaani ||

Kabeer, you shall drown, you wretched being, from worrying about what other people think.

ਪਾਰੋਸੀ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਹੂਆ ਤੂ ਅਪਨੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੧੬੭॥

पारोसी के जो हूआ तू अपने भी जानु ॥१६७॥

Paarosee ke jo hooaa too apane bhee jaanu ||167||

You know that whatever happens to your neighbors, will also happen to you. ||167||


ਕਬੀਰ ਭਲੀ ਮਧੂਕਰੀ ਨਾਨਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਜੁ ॥

कबीर भली मधूकरी नाना बिधि को नाजु ॥

Kabeer bhalee madhookaree naanaa bidhi ko naaju ||

Kabeer, even dry bread, made of various grains, is good.

ਦਾਵਾ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬਡਾ ਦੇਸੁ ਬਡ ਰਾਜੁ ॥੧੬੮॥

दावा काहू को नही बडा देसु बड राजु ॥१६८॥

Daavaa kaahoo ko nahee badaa desu bad raaju ||168||

No one brags about it, throughout the vast country and great empire. ||168||


ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾਵੈ ਦਾਝਨੁ ਹੋਤੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਦਾਵੈ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਸੰਕ ॥

कबीर दावै दाझनु होतु है निरदावै रहै निसंक ॥

Kabeer daavai daajhanu hotu hai niradaavai rahai nisankk ||

Kabeer, those who brag, shall burn. Those who do not brag remain carefree.

ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਦਾਵੈ ਰਹੈ ਸੋ ਗਨੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਸੋ ਰੰਕ ॥੧੬੯॥

जो जनु निरदावै रहै सो गनै इंद्र सो रंक ॥१६९॥

Jo janu niradaavai rahai so ganai ianddr so rankk ||169||

That humble being who does not brag, looks upon the gods and the poor alike. ||169||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪਾਲਿ ਸਮੁਹਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਭਰਾ ਪੀ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ਨੀਰੁ ॥

कबीर पालि समुहा सरवरु भरा पी न सकै कोई नीरु ॥

Kabeer paali samuhaa saravaru bharaa pee na sakai koee neeru ||

Kabeer, the pool is filled to overflowing, but no one can drink the water from it.

ਭਾਗ ਬਡੇ ਤੈ ਪਾਇਓ ਤੂੰ ਭਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਪੀਉ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧੭੦॥

भाग बडे तै पाइओ तूं भरि भरि पीउ कबीर ॥१७०॥

Bhaag bade tai paaio toonn bhari bhari peeu kabeer ||170||

By great good fortune, you have found it; drink it in handfuls, O Kabeer. ||170||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪਰਭਾਤੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਖਿਸਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਇਹੁ ਖਿਸੈ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥

कबीर परभाते तारे खिसहि तिउ इहु खिसै सरीरु ॥

Kabeer parabhaate taare khisahi tiu ihu khisai sareeru ||

Kabeer, just as the stars disappear at dawn, so shall this body disappear.

ਏ ਦੁਇ ਅਖਰ ਨਾ ਖਿਸਹਿ ਸੋ ਗਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰੁ ॥੧੭੧॥

ए दुइ अखर ना खिसहि सो गहि रहिओ कबीरु ॥१७१॥

E dui akhar naa khisahi so gahi rahio kabeeru ||171||

Only the letters of God's Name do not disappear; Kabeer holds these tight. ||171||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕੋਠੀ ਕਾਠ ਕੀ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਗਿ ॥

कबीर कोठी काठ की दह दिसि लागी आगि ॥

Kabeer kothee kaath kee dah disi laagee aagi ||

Kabeer, the wooden house is burning on all sides.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜਲਿ ਮੂਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਉਬਰੇ ਭਾਗਿ ॥੧੭੨॥

पंडित पंडित जलि मूए मूरख उबरे भागि ॥१७२॥

Panddit panddit jali mooe moorakh ubare bhaagi ||172||

The Pandits, the religious scholars, have been burnt to death, while the illiterate ones run to safety. ||172||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਸਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੁ ਕਾਗਦ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥

कबीर संसा दूरि करु कागद देह बिहाइ ॥

Kabeer sanssaa doori karu kaagad deh bihaai ||

Kabeer, give up your skepticism; let your papers float away.

ਬਾਵਨ ਅਖਰ ਸੋਧਿ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੭੩॥

बावन अखर सोधि कै हरि चरनी चितु लाइ ॥१७३॥

Baavan akhar sodhi kai hari charanee chitu laai ||173||

Find the essence of the letters of the alphabet, and focus your consciousness on the Lord. ||173||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਤੁ ਨ ਛਾਡੈ ਸੰਤਈ ਜਉ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਅਸੰਤ ॥

कबीर संतु न छाडै संतई जउ कोटिक मिलहि असंत ॥

Kabeer santtu na chhaadai santtaee jau kotik milahi asantt ||

Kabeer, the Saint does not forsake his Saintly nature, even though he meets with millions of evil-doers.

ਮਲਿਆਗਰੁ ਭੁਯੰਗਮ ਬੇਢਿਓ ਤ ਸੀਤਲਤਾ ਨ ਤਜੰਤ ॥੧੭੪॥

मलिआगरु भुयंगम बेढिओ त सीतलता न तजंत ॥१७४॥

Maliaagaru bhuyanggam bedhio ta seetalataa na tajantt ||174||

Even when sandalwood is surrounded by snakes, it does not give up its cooling fragrance. ||174||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥

कबीर मनु सीतलु भइआ पाइआ ब्रहम गिआनु ॥

Kabeer manu seetalu bhaiaa paaiaa brham giaanu ||

Kabeer, my mind is cooled and soothed; I have become God-conscious.

ਜਿਨਿ ਜੁਆਲਾ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਰਿਆ ਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਉਦਕ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥੧੭੫॥

जिनि जुआला जगु जारिआ सु जन के उदक समानि ॥१७५॥

Jini juaalaa jagu jaariaa su jan ke udak samaani ||175||

The fire which has burnt the world is like water to the Lord's humble servant. ||175||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर सारी सिरजनहार की जानै नाही कोइ ॥

Kabeer saaree sirajanahaar kee jaanai naahee koi ||

Kabeer, no one knows the Play of the Creator Lord.

ਕੈ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਨ ਧਨੀ ਕੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦੀਵਾਨੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੭੬॥

कै जानै आपन धनी कै दासु दीवानी होइ ॥१७६॥

Kai jaanai aapan dhanee kai daasu deevaanee hoi ||176||

Only the Lord Himself and the slaves at His Court understand it. ||176||


ਕਬੀਰ ਭਲੀ ਭਈ ਜੋ ਭਉ ਪਰਿਆ ਦਿਸਾ ਗਈਂ ਸਭ ਭੂਲਿ ॥

कबीर भली भई जो भउ परिआ दिसा गईं सभ भूलि ॥

Kabeer bhalee bhaee jo bhau pariaa disaa gaeen sabh bhooli ||

Kabeer, it is good that I feel the Fear of God; I have forgotten everything else.

ਓਰਾ ਗਰਿ ਪਾਨੀ ਭਇਆ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਢਲਿ ਕੂਲਿ ॥੧੭੭॥

ओरा गरि पानी भइआ जाइ मिलिओ ढलि कूलि ॥१७७॥

Oraa gari paanee bhaiaa jaai milio dhali kooli ||177||

The hail-stone has melted into water, and flowed into the ocean. ||177||


ਕਬੀਰਾ ਧੂਰਿ ਸਕੇਲਿ ਕੈ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਬਾਂਧੀ ਦੇਹ ॥

कबीरा धूरि सकेलि कै पुरीआ बांधी देह ॥

Kabeeraa dhoori sakeli kai pureeaa baandhee deh ||

Kabeer, the body is a pile of dust, collected and packed together.

ਦਿਵਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੋ ਪੇਖਨਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਖੇਹ ਕੀ ਖੇਹ ॥੧੭੮॥

दिवस चारि को पेखना अंति खेह की खेह ॥१७८॥

Divas chaari ko pekhanaa antti kheh kee kheh ||178||

It is a show which lasts for only a few days, and then dust returns to dust. ||178||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੂਰਜ ਚਾਂਦ ਕੈ ਉਦੈ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਦੇਹ ॥

कबीर सूरज चांद कै उदै भई सभ देह ॥

Kabeer sooraj chaand kai udai bhaee sabh deh ||

Kabeer, bodies are like the rising and setting of the sun and the moon.

ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਲਟਿ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਖੇਹ ॥੧੭੯॥

गुर गोबिंद के बिनु मिले पलटि भई सभ खेह ॥१७९॥

Gur gobindd ke binu mile palati bhaee sabh kheh ||179||

Without meeting the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, they are all reduced to dust again. ||179||


ਜਹ ਅਨਭਉ ਤਹ ਭੈ ਨਹੀ ਜਹ ਭਉ ਤਹ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

जह अनभउ तह भै नही जह भउ तह हरि नाहि ॥

Jah anabhau tah bhai nahee jah bhau tah hari naahi ||

Where the Fearless Lord is, there is no fear; where there is fear, the Lord is not there.

ਕਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਸੰਤ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧੮੦॥

कहिओ कबीर बिचारि कै संत सुनहु मन माहि ॥१८०॥

Kahio kabeer bichaari kai santt sunahu man maahi ||180||

Kabeer speaks after careful consideration; hear this, O Saints, in your minds. ||180||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਨਹੁ ਕਿਛੂ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਸੁਖ ਨੀਦ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥

कबीर जिनहु किछू जानिआ नही तिन सुख नीद बिहाइ ॥

Kabeer jinahu kichhoo jaaniaa nahee tin sukh need bihaai ||

Kabeer, those who do not know anything, pass their lives in peaceful sleep.

ਹਮਹੁ ਜੁ ਬੂਝਾ ਬੂਝਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਰੀ ਬਲਾਇ ॥੧੮੧॥

हमहु जु बूझा बूझना पूरी परी बलाइ ॥१८१॥

Hamahu ju boojhaa boojhanaa pooree paree balaai ||181||

But I have understood the riddle; I am faced with all sorts of troubles. ||181||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਆ ਪੀਰ ਪੁਕਾਰੈ ਅਉਰ ॥

कबीर मारे बहुतु पुकारिआ पीर पुकारै अउर ॥

Kabeer maare bahutu pukaariaa peer pukaarai aur ||

Kabeer, those who are beaten cry a lot; but the cries of the pain of separation are different.

ਲਾਗੀ ਚੋਟ ਮਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਠਉਰ ॥੧੮੨॥

लागी चोट मरम की रहिओ कबीरा ठउर ॥१८२॥

Laagee chot maramm kee rahio kabeeraa thaur ||182||

Struck by the Mystery of God, Kabeer remains silent. ||182||


ਕਬੀਰ ਚੋਟ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਸੇਲ ਕੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਲੇਇ ਉਸਾਸ ॥

कबीर चोट सुहेली सेल की लागत लेइ उसास ॥

Kabeer chot suhelee sel kee laagat lei usaas ||

Kabeer, the stroke of a lance is easy to bear; it takes away the breath.

ਚੋਟ ਸਹਾਰੈ ਸਬਦ ਕੀ ਤਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਦਾਸ ॥੧੮੩॥

चोट सहारै सबद की तासु गुरू मै दास ॥१८३॥

Chot sahaarai sabad kee taasu guroo mai daas ||183||

But one who endures the stroke of the Word of the Shabad is the Guru, and I am his slave. ||183||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਮੁਨਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਚਢਹਿ ਸਾਂਈ ਨ ਬਹਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

कबीर मुलां मुनारे किआ चढहि सांई न बहरा होइ ॥

Kabeer mulaan munaare kiaa chadhahi saanee na baharaa hoi ||

Kabeer: O Mullah, why do you climb to the top of the minaret? The Lord is not hard of hearing.

ਜਾ ਕਾਰਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਾਂਗ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਿਲ ਹੀ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜੋਇ ॥੧੮੪॥

जा कारनि तूं बांग देहि दिल ही भीतरि जोइ ॥१८४॥

Jaa kaarani toonn baang dehi dil hee bheetari joi ||184||

Look within your own heart for the One, for whose sake you shout your prayers. ||184||


ਸੇਖ ਸਬੂਰੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਹਜ ਕਾਬੇ ਜਾਇ ॥

सेख सबूरी बाहरा किआ हज काबे जाइ ॥

Sekh sabooree baaharaa kiaa haj kaabe jaai ||

Why does the Shaykh bother to go on pilgrimage to Mecca, if he is not content with himself?

ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦਿਲ ਸਾਬਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਾਂ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥੧੮੫॥

कबीर जा की दिल साबति नही ता कउ कहां खुदाइ ॥१८५॥

Kabeer jaa kee dil saabati nahee taa kau kahaan khudaai ||185||

Kabeer, one whose heart is not healthy and whole - how can he attain his Lord? ||185||


ਕਬੀਰ ਅਲਹ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर अलह की करि बंदगी जिह सिमरत दुखु जाइ ॥

Kabeer alah kee kari banddagee jih simarat dukhu jaai ||

Kabeer, worship the Lord Allah; meditating in remembrance on Him, troubles and pains depart.

ਦਿਲ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਂਈ ਪਰਗਟੈ ਬੁਝੈ ਬਲੰਤੀ ਨਾਂਇ ॥੧੮੬॥

दिल महि सांई परगटै बुझै बलंती नांइ ॥१८६॥

Dil mahi saanee paragatai bujhai balanttee naani ||186||

The Lord shall be revealed within your own heart, and the burning fire within shall be extinguished by His Name. ||186||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜੋਰੀ ਕੀਏ ਜੁਲਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਹਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਹਲਾਲੁ ॥

कबीर जोरी कीए जुलमु है कहता नाउ हलालु ॥

Kabeer joree keee julamu hai kahataa naau halaalu ||

Kabeer, to use force is tyranny, even if you call it legal.

ਦਫਤਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਂਗੀਐ ਤਬ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਕਉਨੁ ਹਵਾਲੁ ॥੧੮੭॥

दफतरि लेखा मांगीऐ तब होइगो कउनु हवालु ॥१८७॥

Daphatari lekhaa maangeeai tab hoigo kaunu havaalu ||187||

When your account is called for in the Court of the Lord, what will your condition be then? ||187||


ਕਬੀਰ ਖੂਬੁ ਖਾਨਾ ਖੀਚਰੀ ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੋਨੁ ॥

कबीर खूबु खाना खीचरी जा महि अम्रितु लोनु ॥

Kabeer khoobu khaanaa kheecharee jaa mahi ammmritu lonu ||

Kabeer, the dinner of beans and rice is excellent, if it is flavored with salt.

ਹੇਰਾ ਰੋਟੀ ਕਾਰਨੇ ਗਲਾ ਕਟਾਵੈ ਕਉਨੁ ॥੧੮੮॥

हेरा रोटी कारने गला कटावै कउनु ॥१८८॥

Heraa rotee kaarane galaa kataavai kaunu ||188||

Who would cut his throat, to have meat with his bread? ||188||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਬ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਮਿਟੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਤਨ ਤਾਪ ॥

कबीर गुरु लागा तब जानीऐ मिटै मोहु तन ताप ॥

Kabeer guru laagaa tab jaaneeai mitai mohu tan taap ||

Kabeer, one is known to have been touched by the Guru, only when his emotional attachment and physical illnesses are eradicated.

ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਦਾਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਤਬ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪਿ ॥੧੮੯॥

हरख सोग दाझै नही तब हरि आपहि आपि ॥१८९॥

Harakh sog daajhai nahee tab hari aapahi aapi ||189||

He is not burned by pleasure or pain, and so he becomes the Lord Himself. ||189||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਕਹਨ ਮਹਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਬਿਚਾਰੁ ॥

कबीर राम कहन महि भेदु है ता महि एकु बिचारु ॥

Kabeer raam kahan mahi bhedu hai taa mahi eku bichaaru ||

Kabeer, it does make a difference, how you chant the Lord's Name, 'Raam'. This is something to consider.

ਸੋਈ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਭੈ ਕਹਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਕਉਤਕਹਾਰ ॥੧੯੦॥

सोई रामु सभै कहहि सोई कउतकहार ॥१९०॥

Soee raamu sabhai kahahi soee kautakahaar ||190||

Everyone uses the same word for the son of Dasrath and the Wondrous Lord. ||190||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਕਹੁ ਕਹਿਬੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥

कबीर रामै राम कहु कहिबे माहि बिबेक ॥

Kabeer raamai raam kahu kahibe maahi bibek ||

Kabeer, use the word 'Raam', only to speak of the All-pervading Lord. You must make that distinction.

ਏਕੁ ਅਨੇਕਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਇਆ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨਾ ਏਕ ॥੧੯੧॥

एकु अनेकहि मिलि गइआ एक समाना एक ॥१९१॥

Eku anekahi mili gaiaa ek samaanaa ek ||191||

One 'Raam' is pervading everywhere, while the other is contained only in himself. ||191||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾ ਘਰ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਸੇਵੀਅਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

कबीर जा घर साध न सेवीअहि हरि की सेवा नाहि ॥

Kabeer jaa ghar saadh na seveeahi hari kee sevaa naahi ||

Kabeer, those houses in which neither the Holy nor the Lord are served

ਤੇ ਘਰ ਮਰਹਟ ਸਾਰਖੇ ਭੂਤ ਬਸਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧੯੨॥

ते घर मरहट सारखे भूत बसहि तिन माहि ॥१९२॥

Te ghar marahat saarakhe bhoot basahi tin maahi ||192||

- those houses are like cremation grounds; demons dwell within them. ||192||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗੂੰਗਾ ਹੂਆ ਬਾਵਰਾ ਬਹਰਾ ਹੂਆ ਕਾਨ ॥

कबीर गूंगा हूआ बावरा बहरा हूआ कान ॥

Kabeer goonggaa hooaa baavaraa baharaa hooaa kaan ||

Kabeer, I have become mute, insane and deaf.

ਪਾਵਹੁ ਤੇ ਪਿੰਗੁਲ ਭਇਆ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਨ ॥੧੯੩॥

पावहु ते पिंगुल भइआ मारिआ सतिगुर बान ॥१९३॥

Paavahu te pinggul bhaiaa maariaa satigur baan ||193||

I am crippled - the True Guru has pierced me with His Arrow. ||193||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਬਾਹਿਆ ਬਾਨੁ ਜੁ ਏਕੁ ॥

कबीर सतिगुर सूरमे बाहिआ बानु जु एकु ॥

Kabeer satigur soorame baahiaa baanu ju eku ||

Kabeer, the True Guru, the Spiritual Warrior, has shot me with His Arrow.

ਲਾਗਤ ਹੀ ਭੁਇ ਗਿਰਿ ਪਰਿਆ ਪਰਾ ਕਰੇਜੇ ਛੇਕੁ ॥੧੯੪॥

लागत ही भुइ गिरि परिआ परा करेजे छेकु ॥१९४॥

Laagat hee bhui giri pariaa paraa kareje chheku ||194||

As soon as it struck me, I fell to the ground, with a hole in my heart. ||194||


ਕਬੀਰ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬੂੰਦ ਅਕਾਸ ਕੀ ਪਰਿ ਗਈ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥

कबीर निरमल बूंद अकास की परि गई भूमि बिकार ॥

Kabeer niramal boondd akaas kee pari gaee bhoomi bikaar ||

Kabeer, the pure drop of water falls from the sky, onto the dirty ground.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਉ ਮਾਂਨਈ ਹੋਇ ਗਈ ਭਠ ਛਾਰ ॥੧੯੫॥

बिनु संगति इउ मांनई होइ गई भठ छार ॥१९५॥

Binu sanggati iu maannaee hoi gaee bhath chhaar ||195||

You must acknowledge this, that without the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, it turns into burnt ashes. ||195||


ਕਬੀਰ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬੂੰਦ ਅਕਾਸ ਕੀ ਲੀਨੀ ਭੂਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

कबीर निरमल बूंद अकास की लीनी भूमि मिलाइ ॥

Kabeer niramal boondd akaas kee leenee bhoomi milaai ||

Kabeer, the pure drop of water falls from the sky, and mixes with the dust.

ਅਨਿਕ ਸਿਆਨੇ ਪਚਿ ਗਏ ਨਾ ਨਿਰਵਾਰੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੯੬॥

अनिक सिआने पचि गए ना निरवारी जाइ ॥१९६॥

Anik siaane pachi gae naa niravaaree jaai ||196||

Millions of clever people may try, but they will fail - it cannot be made separate again. ||196||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਜ ਕਾਬੇ ਹਉ ਜਾਇ ਥਾ ਆਗੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥

कबीर हज काबे हउ जाइ था आगै मिलिआ खुदाइ ॥

Kabeer haj kaabe hau jaai thaa aagai miliaa khudaai ||

Kabeer, I was going on a pilgrimage to Mecca, and God met me on the way.

ਸਾਂਈ ਮੁਝ ਸਿਉ ਲਰਿ ਪਰਿਆ ਤੁਝੈ ਕਿਨੑਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ਗਾਇ ॥੧੯੭॥

सांई मुझ सिउ लरि परिआ तुझै किन्हि फुरमाई गाइ ॥१९७॥

Saanee mujh siu lari pariaa tujhai kinhi phuramaaee gaai ||197||

He scolded me and asked, ""Who told you that I am only there?"" ||197||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਹੋਇ ਹੋਇ ਗਇਆ ਕੇਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਕਬੀਰ ॥

कबीर हज काबै होइ होइ गइआ केती बार कबीर ॥

Kabeer haj kaabai hoi hoi gaiaa ketee baar kabeer ||

Kabeer, I went to Mecca - how many times, Kabeer?

ਸਾਂਈ ਮੁਝ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਖਤਾ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਨ ਬੋਲੈ ਪੀਰ ॥੧੯੮॥

सांई मुझ महि किआ खता मुखहु न बोलै पीर ॥१९८॥

Saanee mujh mahi kiaa khataa mukhahu na bolai peer ||198||

O Lord, what is the problem with me? You have not spoken to me with Your Mouth. ||198||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਅ ਜੁ ਮਾਰਹਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਹਤੇ ਹਹਿ ਜੁ ਹਲਾਲੁ ॥

कबीर जीअ जु मारहि जोरु करि कहते हहि जु हलालु ॥

Kabeer jeea ju maarahi joru kari kahate hahi ju halaalu ||

Kabeer, they oppress living beings and kill them, and call it proper.

ਦਫਤਰੁ ਦਈ ਜਬ ਕਾਢਿ ਹੈ ਹੋਇਗਾ ਕਉਨੁ ਹਵਾਲੁ ॥੧੯੯॥

दफतरु दई जब काढि है होइगा कउनु हवालु ॥१९९॥

Daphataru daee jab kaadhi hai hoigaa kaunu havaalu ||199||

When the Lord calls for their account, what will their condition be? ||199||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜੋਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਜੁਲਮੁ ਹੈ ਲੇਇ ਜਬਾਬੁ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥

कबीर जोरु कीआ सो जुलमु है लेइ जबाबु खुदाइ ॥

Kabeer joru keeaa so julamu hai lei jabaabu khudaai ||

Kabeer, it is tyranny to use force; the Lord shall call you to account.

ਦਫਤਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਨੀਕਸੈ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਹੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਖਾਇ ॥੨੦੦॥

दफतरि लेखा नीकसै मार मुहै मुहि खाइ ॥२००॥

Daphatari lekhaa neekasai maar muhai muhi khaai ||200||

When your account is called for, your face and mouth shall be beaten. ||200||


ਕਬੀਰ ਲੇਖਾ ਦੇਨਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜਉ ਦਿਲ ਸੂਚੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

कबीर लेखा देना सुहेला जउ दिल सूची होइ ॥

Kabeer lekhaa denaa suhelaa jau dil soochee hoi ||

Kabeer, it is easy to render your account, if your heart is pure.

ਉਸੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਦੀਬਾਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਲਾ ਨ ਪਕਰੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੨੦੧॥

उसु साचे दीबान महि पला न पकरै कोइ ॥२०१॥

Usu saache deebaan mahi palaa na pakarai koi ||201||

In the True Court of the Lord, no one will seize you. ||201||


ਕਬੀਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਰੁ ਆਕਾਸ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਇ ਤੂੰ ਬਰੀ ਅਬਧ ॥

कबीर धरती अरु आकास महि दुइ तूं बरी अबध ॥

Kabeer dharatee aru aakaas mahi dui toonn baree abadh ||

Kabeer: O duality, you are mighty and powerful in the earth and the sky.

ਖਟ ਦਰਸਨ ਸੰਸੇ ਪਰੇ ਅਰੁ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਸਿਧ ॥੨੦੨॥

खट दरसन संसे परे अरु चउरासीह सिध ॥२०२॥

Khat darasan sansse pare aru chauraaseeh sidh ||202||

The six Shaastras and the eighty-four Siddhas are entrenched in skepticism. ||202||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੁਝ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਤੇਰਾ ॥

कबीर मेरा मुझ महि किछु नही जो किछु है सो तेरा ॥

Kabeer meraa mujh mahi kichhu nahee jo kichhu hai so teraa ||

Kabeer, nothing is mine within myself. Whatever there is, is Yours, O Lord.

ਤੇਰਾ ਤੁਝ ਕਉ ਸਉਪਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੨੦੩॥

तेरा तुझ कउ सउपते किआ लागै मेरा ॥२०३॥

Teraa tujh kau saupate kiaa laagai meraa ||203||

If I surrender to You what is already Yours, what does it cost me? ||203||


ਕਬੀਰ ਤੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਹੂਆ ਮੁਝ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਾ ਨ ਹੂੰ ॥

कबीर तूं तूं करता तू हूआ मुझ महि रहा न हूं ॥

Kabeer toonn toonn karataa too hooaa mujh mahi rahaa na hoonn ||

Kabeer, repeating, ""You, You"", I have become like You. Nothing of me remains in myself.

ਜਬ ਆਪਾ ਪਰ ਕਾ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਇਆ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਤ ਤੂ ॥੨੦੪॥

जब आपा पर का मिटि गइआ जत देखउ तत तू ॥२०४॥

Jab aapaa par kaa miti gaiaa jat dekhau tat too ||204||

When the difference between myself and others is removed, then wherever I look, I see only You. ||204||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬਿਕਾਰਹ ਚਿਤਵਤੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਸ ॥

कबीर बिकारह चितवते झूठे करते आस ॥

Kabeer bikaarah chitavate jhoothe karate aas ||

Kabeer, those who think of evil and entertain false hopes

ਮਨੋਰਥੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪੂਰਿਓ ਚਾਲੇ ਊਠਿ ਨਿਰਾਸ ॥੨੦੫॥

मनोरथु कोइ न पूरिओ चाले ऊठि निरास ॥२०५॥

Manorathu koi na poorio chaale uthi niraas ||205||

- none of their desires shall be fulfilled; they shall depart in despair. ||205||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਜੋ ਕਰੈ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥

कबीर हरि का सिमरनु जो करै सो सुखीआ संसारि ॥

Kabeer hari kaa simaranu jo karai so sukheeaa sanssaari ||

Kabeer, whoever meditates in remembrance on the Lord, he alone is happy in this world.

ਇਤ ਉਤ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਡੋਲਈ ਜਿਸ ਰਾਖੈ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ॥੨੦੬॥

इत उत कतहि न डोलई जिस राखै सिरजनहार ॥२०६॥

It ut katahi na dolaee jis raakhai sirajanahaar ||206||

One who is protected and saved by the Creator Lord, shall never waver, here or hereafter. ||206||


ਕਬੀਰ ਘਾਣੀ ਪੀੜਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲੀਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥

कबीर घाणी पीड़ते सतिगुर लीए छडाइ ॥

Kabeer ghaa(nn)ee pee(rr)ate satigur leee chhadaai ||

Kabeer, I was being crushed like sesame seeds in the oil-press, but the True Guru saved me.

ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲੀ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ਆਇ ॥੨੦੭॥

परा पूरबली भावनी परगटु होई आइ ॥२०७॥

Paraa poorabalee bhaavanee paragatu hoee aai ||207||

My pre-ordained primal destiny has now been revealed. ||207||


ਕਬੀਰ ਟਾਲੈ ਟੋਲੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਆਜੁ ਬਢੰਤਉ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर टालै टोलै दिनु गइआ बिआजु बढंतउ जाइ ॥

Kabeer taalai tolai dinu gaiaa biaaju badhanttau jaai ||

Kabeer, my days have passed, and I have postponed my payments; the interest on my account continues to increase.

ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਿਓ ਨ ਖਤੁ ਫਟਿਓ ਕਾਲੁ ਪਹੂੰਚੋ ਆਇ ॥੨੦੮॥

ना हरि भजिओ न खतु फटिओ कालु पहूंचो आइ ॥२०८॥

Naa hari bhajio na khatu phatio kaalu pahoonccho aai ||208||

I have not meditated on the Lord and my account is still pending, and now, the moment of my death has come! ||208||


ਨਾਮਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਕਹੈ ਤਿਲੋਚਨੁ ਮੀਤ ॥

नामा माइआ मोहिआ कहै तिलोचनु मीत ॥

Naamaa maaiaa mohiaa kahai tilochanu meet ||

Trilochan says, O Naam Dayv, Maya has enticed you, my friend.

ਕਾਹੇ ਛੀਪਹੁ ਛਾਇਲੈ ਰਾਮ ਨ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥੨੧੨॥

काहे छीपहु छाइलै राम न लावहु चीतु ॥२१२॥

Kaahe chheepahu chhaailai raam na laavahu cheetu ||212||

Why are you printing designs on these sheets, and not focusing your consciousness on the Lord? ||212||


ਨਾਮਾ ਕਹੈ ਤਿਲੋਚਨਾ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਰਾਮੁ ਸੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥

नामा कहै तिलोचना मुख ते रामु सम्हालि ॥

Naamaa kahai tilochanaa mukh te raamu sammhaali ||

Naam Dayv answers, O Trilochan, chant the Lord's Name with your mouth.

ਹਾਥ ਪਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨੧੩॥

हाथ पाउ करि कामु सभु चीतु निरंजन नालि ॥२१३॥

Haath paau kari kaamu sabhu cheetu niranjjan naali ||213||

With your hands and feet, do all your work, but let your consciousness remain with the Immaculate Lord. ||213||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕੀਚੜਿ ਆਟਾ ਗਿਰਿ ਪਰਿਆ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਹਾਥ ॥

कबीर कीचड़ि आटा गिरि परिआ किछू न आइओ हाथ ॥

Kabeer keecha(rr)i aataa giri pariaa kichhoo na aaio haath ||

Kabeer, the flour has fallen into the mud; nothing has come into my hands.

ਪੀਸਤ ਪੀਸਤ ਚਾਬਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਬਹਿਆ ਸਾਥ ॥੨੧੫॥

पीसत पीसत चाबिआ सोई निबहिआ साथ ॥२१५॥

Peesat peesat chaabiaa soee nibahiaa saath ||215||

That which was eaten while it was being ground - that alone is of any use. ||215||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਸਭ ਬਾਤ ਜਾਨਤ ਹੀ ਅਉਗਨੁ ਕਰੈ ॥

कबीर मनु जानै सभ बात जानत ही अउगनु करै ॥

Kabeer manu jaanai sabh baat jaanat hee auganu karai ||

Kabeer, the mortal knows everything, and knowing, he still makes mistakes.

ਕਾਹੇ ਕੀ ਕੁਸਲਾਤ ਹਾਥਿ ਦੀਪੁ ਕੂਏ ਪਰੈ ॥੨੧੬॥

काहे की कुसलात हाथि दीपु कूए परै ॥२१६॥

Kaahe kee kusalaat haathi deepu kooe parai ||216||

What good is a lamp in one's hand, if he falls into the well? ||216||


ਕਬੀਰ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸੁਜਾਨ ਸਿਉ ਬਰਜੈ ਲੋਗੁ ਅਜਾਨੁ ॥

कबीर लागी प्रीति सुजान सिउ बरजै लोगु अजानु ॥

Kabeer laagee preeti sujaan siu barajai logu ajaanu ||

Kabeer, I am in love with the All-knowing Lord; the ignorant ones try to hold me back.

ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਟੂਟੀ ਕਿਉ ਬਨੈ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਨ ॥੨੧੭॥

ता सिउ टूटी किउ बनै जा के जीअ परान ॥२१७॥

Taa siu tootee kiu banai jaa ke jeea paraan ||217||

How could I ever break with the One, who owns our soul and breath of life. ||217||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕੋਠੇ ਮੰਡਪ ਹੇਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਮਰਹੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥

कबीर कोठे मंडप हेतु करि काहे मरहु सवारि ॥

Kabeer kothe manddap hetu kari kaahe marahu savaari ||

Kabeer, why kill yourself for your love of decorations of your home and mansion?

ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਾਢੇ ਤੀਨਿ ਹਥ ਘਨੀ ਤ ਪਉਨੇ ਚਾਰਿ ॥੨੧੮॥

कारजु साढे तीनि हथ घनी त पउने चारि ॥२१८॥

Kaaraju saadhe teeni hath ghanee ta paune chaari ||218||

In the end, only six feet, or a little more, shall be your lot. ||218||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜੋ ਮੈ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਨਾ ਕਰੈ ਕਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿਤਵੇ ਹੋਇ ॥

कबीर जो मै चितवउ ना करै किआ मेरे चितवे होइ ॥

Kabeer jo mai chitavau naa karai kiaa mere chitave hoi ||

Kabeer, whatever I wish for does not happen. What can I accomplish by merely thinking?

ਅਪਨਾ ਚਿਤਵਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕਰੈ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨੧੯॥

अपना चितविआ हरि करै जो मेरे चिति न होइ ॥२१९॥

Apanaa chitaviaa hari karai jo mere chiti na hoi ||219||

The Lord does whatever He wishes; it is not up to me at all. ||219||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਚੀ ਕਾਰਵੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਕਾਚੀ ਧਾਤੁ ॥

कबीर काइआ काची कारवी केवल काची धातु ॥

Kabeer kaaiaa kaachee kaaravee keval kaachee dhaatu ||

Kabeer, the body is like a clay vessel or a brittle metal pot.

ਸਾਬਤੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਤ ਰਾਮ ਭਜੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਬਿਨਠੀ ਬਾਤ ॥੨੨੨॥

साबतु रखहि त राम भजु नाहि त बिनठी बात ॥२२२॥

Saabatu rakhahi ta raam bhaju naahi ta binathee baat ||222||

If you wish to keep it safe and sound, then vibrate and meditate on the Lord; otherwise, the thing shall break. ||222||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕੇਸੋ ਕੇਸੋ ਕੂਕੀਐ ਨ ਸੋਈਐ ਅਸਾਰ ॥

कबीर केसो केसो कूकीऐ न सोईऐ असार ॥

Kabeer keso keso kookeeai na soeeai asaar ||

Kabeer, chant the Name of the Beautifully-haired Lord; do not sleep unaware.

ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਕੇ ਕੂਕਨੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਕੇ ਸੁਨੈ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥੨੨੩॥

राति दिवस के कूकने कबहू के सुनै पुकार ॥२२३॥

Raati divas ke kookane kabahoo ke sunai pukaar ||223||

Chanting His Name night and day, the Lord will eventually hear your call. ||223||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਜਲੀ ਬਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਮਯ ਮੰਤੁ ॥

कबीर काइआ कजली बनु भइआ मनु कुंचरु मय मंतु ॥

Kabeer kaaiaa kajalee banu bhaiaa manu kunccharu may manttu ||

Kabeer, the body is a banana forest, and the mind is an intoxicated elephant.

ਅੰਕਸੁ ਗੵਾਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਖੇਵਟੁ ਬਿਰਲਾ ਸੰਤੁ ॥੨੨੪॥

अंकसु ग्यानु रतनु है खेवटु बिरला संतु ॥२२४॥

Ankkasu gyaanu ratanu hai khevatu biralaa santtu ||224||

The jewel of spiritual wisdom is the prod, and the rare Saint is the rider. ||224||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਮੁਖੁ ਕੋਥਰੀ ਪਾਰਖ ਆਗੈ ਖੋਲਿ ॥

कबीर राम रतनु मुखु कोथरी पारख आगै खोलि ॥

Kabeer raam ratanu mukhu kotharee paarakh aagai kholi ||

Kabeer, the Lord's Name is the jewel, and the mouth is the purse; open this purse to the Appraiser.

ਕੋਈ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈਗੋ ਗਾਹਕੀ ਲੇਗੋ ਮਹਗੇ ਮੋਲਿ ॥੨੨੫॥

कोई आइ मिलैगो गाहकी लेगो महगे मोलि ॥२२५॥

Koee aai milaigo gaahakee lego mahage moli ||225||

If a buyer can be found, it will go for a high price. ||225||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਲਿਓ ਕਟਕੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ॥

कबीर राम नामु जानिओ नही पालिओ कटकु कुट्मबु ॥

Kabeer raam naamu jaanio nahee paalio kataku kutambbu ||

Kabeer, the mortal does not know the Lord's Name, but he has raised a very large family.

ਧੰਧੇ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਗਇਓ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਈ ਨ ਬੰਬ ॥੨੨੬॥

धंधे ही महि मरि गइओ बाहरि भई न ब्मब ॥२२६॥

Dhanddhe hee mahi mari gaio baahari bhaee na bambb ||226||

He dies in the midst of his worldly affairs, and then he is not heard in the external world. ||226||


ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖੀ ਕੇਰੇ ਮਾਟੁਕੇ ਪਲੁ ਪਲੁ ਗਈ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥

कबीर आखी केरे माटुके पलु पलु गई बिहाइ ॥

Kabeer aakhee kere maatuke palu palu gaee bihaai ||

Kabeer, in the blink of an eye, moment by moment, life is passing by.

ਮਨੁ ਜੰਜਾਲੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਈ ਜਮ ਦੀਆ ਦਮਾਮਾ ਆਇ ॥੨੨੭॥

मनु जंजालु न छोडई जम दीआ दमामा आइ ॥२२७॥

Manu janjjaalu na chhodaee jam deeaa damaamaa aai ||227||

The mortal does not give up his worldly entanglements; the Messenger of Death walks in and beats the drum. ||227||


ਕਬੀਰ ਤਰਵਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਫਲ ਰੂਪੀ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ॥

कबीर तरवर रूपी रामु है फल रूपी बैरागु ॥

Kabeer taravar roopee raamu hai phal roopee bairaagu ||

Kabeer, the Lord is the tree, and disillusionment with the world is the fruit.

ਛਾਇਆ ਰੂਪੀ ਸਾਧੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਜਿਆ ਬਾਦੁ ਬਿਬਾਦੁ ॥੨੨੮॥

छाइआ रूपी साधु है जिनि तजिआ बादु बिबादु ॥२२८॥

Chhaaiaa roopee saadhu hai jini tajiaa baadu bibaadu ||228||

The Holy man, who has abandoned useless arguments, is the shade of the tree. ||228||


ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਬੀਜੁ ਬੋਇ ਬਾਰਹ ਮਾਸ ਫਲੰਤ ॥

कबीर ऐसा बीजु बोइ बारह मास फलंत ॥

Kabeer aisaa beeju boi baarah maas phalantt ||

Kabeer, plant the seeds of such a plant, which shall bear fruit throughout the twelve months,

ਸੀਤਲ ਛਾਇਆ ਗਹਿਰ ਫਲ ਪੰਖੀ ਕੇਲ ਕਰੰਤ ॥੨੨੯॥

सीतल छाइआ गहिर फल पंखी केल करंत ॥२२९॥

Seetal chhaaiaa gahir phal pankkhee kel karantt ||229||

With cooling shade and abundant fruit, upon which birds joyously play. ||229||


ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਦਯਾ ਫਲੁ ਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵੰਤ ॥

कबीर दाता तरवरु दया फलु उपकारी जीवंत ॥

Kabeer daataa taravaru dayaa phalu upakaaree jeevantt ||

Kabeer, the Great Giver is the tree, which blesses all with the fruit of compassion.

ਪੰਖੀ ਚਲੇ ਦਿਸਾਵਰੀ ਬਿਰਖਾ ਸੁਫਲ ਫਲੰਤ ॥੨੩੦॥

पंखी चले दिसावरी बिरखा सुफल फलंत ॥२३०॥

Pankkhee chale disaavaree birakhaa suphal phalantt ||230||

When the birds migrate to other lands, O Tree, you bear the fruits. ||230||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਲਿਲਾਟ ॥

कबीर साधू संगु परापती लिखिआ होइ लिलाट ॥

Kabeer saadhoo sanggu paraapatee likhiaa hoi lilaat ||

Kabeer, the mortal finds the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, if he has such destiny written upon his forehead.

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਅਵਘਟ ਘਾਟ ॥੨੩੧॥

मुकति पदारथु पाईऐ ठाक न अवघट घाट ॥२३१॥

Mukati padaarathu paaeeai thaak na avaghat ghaat ||231||

He obtains the treasure of liberation, and the difficult road to the Lord is not blocked. ||231||


ਕਬੀਰ ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਆਧੀ ਘਰੀ ਆਧੀ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਆਧ ॥

कबीर एक घड़ी आधी घरी आधी हूं ते आध ॥

Kabeer ek gha(rr)ee aadhee gharee aadhee hoonn te aadh ||

Kabeer, whether is for an hour, half an hour, or half of that,

ਭਗਤਨ ਸੇਤੀ ਗੋਸਟੇ ਜੋ ਕੀਨੇ ਸੋ ਲਾਭ ॥੨੩੨॥

भगतन सेती गोसटे जो कीने सो लाभ ॥२३२॥

Bhagatan setee gosate jo keene so laabh ||232||

Whatever it is, it is worthwhile to speak with the Holy. ||232||


ਕਬੀਰ ਭਾਂਗ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਸੁਰਾ ਪਾਨਿ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਖਾਂਹਿ ॥

कबीर भांग माछुली सुरा पानि जो जो प्रानी खांहि ॥

Kabeer bhaang maachhulee suraa paani jo jo praanee khaanhi ||

Kabeer, those mortals who consume marijuana, fish and wine

ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕੀਏ ਤੇ ਸਭੈ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੨੩੩॥

तीरथ बरत नेम कीए ते सभै रसातलि जांहि ॥२३३॥

Teerath barat nem keee te sabhai rasaatali jaanhi ||233||

- no matter what pilgrimages, fasts and rituals they follow, they will all go to hell. ||233||


ਨੀਚੇ ਲੋਇਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਉ ਲੇ ਸਾਜਨ ਘਟ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

नीचे लोइन करि रहउ ले साजन घट माहि ॥

Neeche loin kari rahau le saajan ghat maahi ||

Kabeer, I keep my eyes lowered, and enshrine my Friend within my heart.

ਸਭ ਰਸ ਖੇਲਉ ਪੀਅ ਸਉ ਕਿਸੀ ਲਖਾਵਉ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨੩੪॥

सभ रस खेलउ पीअ सउ किसी लखावउ नाहि ॥२३४॥

Sabh ras khelau peea sau kisee lakhaavau naahi ||234||

I enjoy all pleasures with my Beloved, but I do not let anyone else know. ||234||


ਆਠ ਜਾਮ ਚਉਸਠਿ ਘਰੀ ਤੁਅ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਰਹੈ ਜੀਉ ॥

आठ जाम चउसठि घरी तुअ निरखत रहै जीउ ॥

Aath jaam chausathi gharee tua nirakhat rahai jeeu ||

Twenty-four hours a day, every hour, my soul continues to look to You, O Lord.

ਨੀਚੇ ਲੋਇਨ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਉ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਦੇਖਉ ਪੀਉ ॥੨੩੫॥

नीचे लोइन किउ करउ सभ घट देखउ पीउ ॥२३५॥

Neeche loin kiu karau sabh ghat dekhau peeu ||235||

Why should I keep my eyes lowered? I see my Beloved in every heart. ||235||


ਸੁਨੁ ਸਖੀ ਪੀਅ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਬਸੈ ਜੀਅ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੈ ਕਿ ਪੀਉ ॥

सुनु सखी पीअ महि जीउ बसै जीअ महि बसै कि पीउ ॥

Sunu sakhee peea mahi jeeu basai jeea mahi basai ki peeu ||

Listen, O my companions: my soul dwells in my Beloved, and my Beloved dwells in my soul.

ਜੀਉ ਪੀਉ ਬੂਝਉ ਨਹੀ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਕਿ ਪੀਉ ॥੨੩੬॥

जीउ पीउ बूझउ नही घट महि जीउ कि पीउ ॥२३६॥

Jeeu peeu boojhau nahee ghat mahi jeeu ki peeu ||236||

I realize that there is no difference between my soul and my Beloved; I cannot tell whether my soul or my Beloved dwells in my heart. ||236||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬਾਮਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ ਕਾ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

कबीर बामनु गुरू है जगत का भगतन का गुरु नाहि ॥

Kabeer baamanu guroo hai jagat kaa bhagatan kaa guru naahi ||

Kabeer, the Brahmin may be the guru of the world, but he is not the Guru of the devotees.

ਅਰਝਿ ਉਰਝਿ ਕੈ ਪਚਿ ਮੂਆ ਚਾਰਉ ਬੇਦਹੁ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੨੩੭॥

अरझि उरझि कै पचि मूआ चारउ बेदहु माहि ॥२३७॥

Arajhi urajhi kai pachi mooaa chaarau bedahu maahi ||237||

He rots and dies in the perplexities of the four Vedas. ||237||


ਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਖਾਂਡੁ ਰੇਤੁ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਖਰੀ ਹਾਥੀ ਚੁਨੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

हरि है खांडु रेतु महि बिखरी हाथी चुनी न जाइ ॥

Hari hai khaandu retu mahi bikharee haathee chunee na jaai ||

The Lord is like sugar, scattered in the sand; the elephant cannot pick it up.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਭਲੀ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਕੀਟੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਖਾਇ ॥੨੩੮॥

कहि कबीर गुरि भली बुझाई कीटी होइ कै खाइ ॥२३८॥

Kahi kabeer guri bhalee bujhaaee keetee hoi kai khaai ||238||

Says Kabeer, the Guru has given me this sublime understanding: become an ant, and feed on it. ||238||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਉ ਤੁਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਿਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਸੀਸੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਗੋਇ ॥

कबीर जउ तुहि साध पिरम की सीसु काटि करि गोइ ॥

Kabeer jau tuhi saadh piramm kee seesu kaati kari goi ||

Kabeer, if you desire to play the game of love with the Lord, then cut off your head, and make it into a ball.

ਖੇਲਤ ਖੇਲਤ ਹਾਲ ਕਰਿ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਹੋਇ ॥੨੩੯॥

खेलत खेलत हाल करि जो किछु होइ त होइ ॥२३९॥

Khelat khelat haal kari jo kichhu hoi ta hoi ||239||

Lose yourself in the play of it, and then whatever will be, will be. ||239||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਉ ਤੁਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਿਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਪਾਕੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਖੇਲੁ ॥

कबीर जउ तुहि साध पिरम की पाके सेती खेलु ॥

Kabeer jau tuhi saadh piramm kee paake setee khelu ||

Kabeer, if you desire to play the game of love with the Lord, play it with someone with committment.

ਕਾਚੀ ਸਰਸਉਂ ਪੇਲਿ ਕੈ ਨਾ ਖਲਿ ਭਈ ਨ ਤੇਲੁ ॥੨੪੦॥

काची सरसउं पेलि कै ना खलि भई न तेलु ॥२४०॥

Kaachee sarasaun peli kai naa khali bhaee na telu ||240||

Pressing the unripe mustard seeds produces neither oil nor flour. ||240||


ਢੂੰਢਤ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਅੰਧ ਗਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਚੀਨਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਤ ॥

ढूंढत डोलहि अंध गति अरु चीनत नाही संत ॥

Dhoonddhat dolahi anddh gati aru cheenat naahee santt ||

Searching, the mortal stumbles like a blind person, and does not recognize the Saint.

ਕਹਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਹੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੁ ॥੨੪੧॥

कहि नामा किउ पाईऐ बिनु भगतहु भगवंतु ॥२४१॥

Kahi naamaa kiu paaeeai binu bhagatahu bhagavanttu ||241||

Says Naam Dayv, how can one obtain the Lord God, without His devotee? ||241||


ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਹੀਰਾ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਨ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥

हरि सो हीरा छाडि कै करहि आन की आस ॥

Hari so heeraa chhaadi kai karahi aan kee aas ||

Forsaking the Diamond of the Lord, the mortals put their hopes in another.

ਤੇ ਨਰ ਦੋਜਕ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਸਤਿ ਭਾਖੈ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ॥੨੪੨॥

ते नर दोजक जाहिगे सति भाखै रविदास ॥२४२॥

Te nar dojak jaahige sati bhaakhai ravidaas ||242||

Those people shall go to hell; Ravi Daas speaks the Truth. ||242||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਉ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਤ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤ ਕਰੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ॥

कबीर जउ ग्रिहु करहि त धरमु करु नाही त करु बैरागु ॥

Kabeer jau grihu karahi ta dharamu karu naahee ta karu bairaagu ||

Kabeer, if you live the householder's life, then practice righteousness; otherwise, you might as well retire from the world.

ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਬੰਧਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਡੋ ਅਭਾਗੁ ॥੨੪੩॥

बैरागी बंधनु करै ता को बडो अभागु ॥२४३॥

Bairaagee banddhanu karai taa ko bado abhaagu ||243||

If someone renounces the world, and then gets involved in worldly entanglements, he shall suffer terrible misfortune. ||243||
