ਮਜਲਸਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मजलसि दूरि महलु को पावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Majalasi doori mahalu ko paavai ||1|| rahaau ||

His Court is so far away; only a rare few attain the Mansion of His Presence. ||1|| Pause ||


ਤੇਤੀਸ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਹੈ ਖੇਲ ਖਾਨਾ ॥

तेतीस करोड़ी है खेल खाना ॥

Tetees karo(rr)ee hai khel khaanaa ||

He has 33,000,000 play-houses.

ਚਉਰਾਸੀ ਲਖ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਵਾਨਾਂ ॥

चउरासी लख फिरै दिवानां ॥

Chauraasee lakh phirai divaanaan ||

His beings wander insanely through 8.4 million incarnations.

ਬਾਬਾ ਆਦਮ ਕਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥

बाबा आदम कउ किछु नदरि दिखाई ॥

Baabaa aadam kau kichhu nadari dikhaaee ||

He bestowed His Grace on Adam, the father of mankind,

ਉਨਿ ਭੀ ਭਿਸਤਿ ਘਨੇਰੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥

उनि भी भिसति घनेरी पाई ॥२॥

Uni bhee bhisati ghaneree paaee ||2||

Who then lived in paradise for a long time. ||2||


ਦਿਲ ਖਲਹਲੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਜਰਦ ਰੂ ਬਾਨੀ ॥

दिल खलहलु जा कै जरद रू बानी ॥

Dil khalahalu jaa kai jarad roo baanee ||

Pale are the faces of those whose hearts are disturbed.

ਛੋਡਿ ਕਤੇਬ ਕਰੈ ਸੈਤਾਨੀ ॥

छोडि कतेब करै सैतानी ॥

Chhodi kateb karai saitaanee ||

They have forsaken their Bible, and practice Satanic evil.

ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੋਸੁ ਰੋਸੁ ਹੈ ਲੋਈ ॥

दुनीआ दोसु रोसु है लोई ॥

Duneeaa dosu rosu hai loee ||

One who blames the world, and is angry with people,

ਅਪਨਾ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥

अपना कीआ पावै सोई ॥३॥

Apanaa keeaa paavai soee ||3||

Shall receive the fruits of his own actions. ||3||


ਤੁਮ ਦਾਤੇ ਹਮ ਸਦਾ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ॥

तुम दाते हम सदा भिखारी ॥

Tum daate ham sadaa bhikhaaree ||

You are the Great Giver, O Lord; I am forever a beggar at Your Door.

ਦੇਉ ਜਬਾਬੁ ਹੋਇ ਬਜਗਾਰੀ ॥

देउ जबाबु होइ बजगारी ॥

Deu jabaabu hoi bajagaaree ||

If I were to deny You, then I would be a wretched sinner.

ਦਾਸੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਨਹ ਸਮਾਨਾਂ ॥

दासु कबीरु तेरी पनह समानां ॥

Daasu kabeeru teree panah samaanaan ||

Slave Kabeer has entered Your Shelter.

ਭਿਸਤੁ ਨਜੀਕਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਹਮਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੫॥

भिसतु नजीकि राखु रहमाना ॥४॥७॥१५॥

Bhisatu najeeki raakhu rahamaanaa ||4||7||15||

Keep me near You, O Merciful Lord God - that is heaven for me. ||4||7||15||


ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਚਲਨ ਕਹਤ ਹੈ ਊਹਾਂ ॥

सभु कोई चलन कहत है ऊहां ॥

Sabhu koee chalan kahat hai uhaan ||

Everyone speaks of going there,

ਨਾ ਜਾਨਉ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੁ ਹੈ ਕਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ना जानउ बैकुंठु है कहां ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Naa jaanau baikuntthu hai kahaan ||1|| rahaau ||

But I do not even know where heaven is. ||1|| Pause ||


ਆਪ ਆਪ ਕਾ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾਂ ॥

आप आप का मरमु न जानां ॥

Aap aap kaa maramu na jaanaan ||

One who does not even know the mystery of his own self,

ਬਾਤਨ ਹੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੁ ਬਖਾਨਾਂ ॥੧॥

बातन ही बैकुंठु बखानां ॥१॥

Baatan hee baikuntthu bakhaanaan ||1||

Speaks of heaven, but it is only talk. ||1||


ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਮਨ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥

जब लगु मन बैकुंठ की आस ॥

Jab lagu man baikuntth kee aas ||

As long as the mortal hopes for heaven,

ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥੨॥

तब लगु नाही चरन निवास ॥२॥

Tab lagu naahee charan nivaas ||2||

He will not dwell at the Lord's Feet. ||2||


ਖਾਈ ਕੋਟੁ ਨ ਪਰਲ ਪਗਾਰਾ ॥

खाई कोटु न परल पगारा ॥

Khaaee kotu na paral pagaaraa ||

Heaven is not a fort with moats and ramparts, and walls plastered with mud;

ਨਾ ਜਾਨਉ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੩॥

ना जानउ बैकुंठ दुआरा ॥३॥

Naa jaanau baikuntth duaaraa ||3||

I do not know what heaven's gate is like. ||3||


ਕਹਿ ਕਮੀਰ ਅਬ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਾਹਿ ॥

कहि कमीर अब कहीऐ काहि ॥

Kahi kameer ab kaheeai kaahi ||

Says Kabeer, now what more can I say?

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੈ ਆਹਿ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੬॥

साधसंगति बैकुंठै आहि ॥४॥८॥१६॥

Saadhasanggati baikuntthai aahi ||4||8||16||

The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is heaven itself. ||4||8||16||


ਕਿਉ ਲੀਜੈ ਗਢੁ ਬੰਕਾ ਭਾਈ ॥

किउ लीजै गढु बंका भाई ॥

Kiu leejai gadhu bankkaa bhaaee ||

How can the beautiful fortress be conquered, O Siblings of Destiny?

ਦੋਵਰ ਕੋਟ ਅਰੁ ਤੇਵਰ ਖਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

दोवर कोट अरु तेवर खाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Dovar kot aru tevar khaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

It has double walls and triple moats. ||1|| Pause ||


ਪਾਂਚ ਪਚੀਸ ਮੋਹ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਆਡੀ ਪਰਬਲ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

पांच पचीस मोह मद मतसर आडी परबल माइआ ॥

Paanch pachees moh mad matasar aadee parabal maaiaa ||

It is defended by the five elements, the twenty-five categories, attachment, pride, jealousy and the awesomely powerful Maya.

ਜਨ ਗਰੀਬ ਕੋ ਜੋਰੁ ਨ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਰਘੁਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

जन गरीब को जोरु न पहुचै कहा करउ रघुराइआ ॥१॥

Jan gareeb ko joru na pahuchai kahaa karau raghuraaiaa ||1||

The poor mortal being does not have the strength to conquer it; what should I do now, O Lord? ||1||


ਕਾਮੁ ਕਿਵਾਰੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦਰਵਾਨੀ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ॥

कामु किवारी दुखु सुखु दरवानी पापु पुंनु दरवाजा ॥

Kaamu kivaaree dukhu sukhu daravaanee paapu punnu daravaajaa ||

Sexual desire is the window, pain and pleasure are the gate-keepers, virtue and sin are the gates.

ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਡ ਦੁੰਦਰ ਤਹ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਵਾਸੀ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੨॥

क्रोधु प्रधानु महा बड दुंदर तह मनु मावासी राजा ॥२॥

Krodhu prdhaanu mahaa bad dunddar tah manu maavaasee raajaa ||2||

Anger is the great supreme commander, full of argument and strife, and the mind is the rebel king there. ||2||


ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਸਨਾਹ ਟੋਪੁ ਮਮਤਾ ਕੋ ਕੁਬੁਧਿ ਕਮਾਨ ਚਢਾਈ ॥

स्वाद सनाह टोपु ममता को कुबुधि कमान चढाई ॥

Svaad sanaah topu mamataa ko kubudhi kamaan chadhaaee ||

Their armor is the pleasure of tastes and flavors, their helmets are worldly attachments; they take aim with their bows of corrupt intellect.

ਤਿਸਨਾ ਤੀਰ ਰਹੇ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਇਉ ਗਢੁ ਲੀਓ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥

तिसना तीर रहे घट भीतरि इउ गढु लीओ न जाई ॥३॥

Tisanaa teer rahe ghat bheetari iu gadhu leeo na jaaee ||3||

The greed that fills their hearts is the arrow; with these things, their fortress is impregnable. ||3||


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਲੀਤਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਹਵਾਈ ਗੋਲਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥

प्रेम पलीता सुरति हवाई गोला गिआनु चलाइआ ॥

Prem paleetaa surati havaaee golaa giaanu chalaaiaa ||

But I have made divine love the fuse, and deep meditation the bomb; I have launched the rocket of spiritual wisdom.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਪਰਜਾਲੀ ਏਕਹਿ ਚੋਟ ਸਿਝਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

ब्रहम अगनि सहजे परजाली एकहि चोट सिझाइआ ॥४॥

Brham agani sahaje parajaalee ekahi chot sijhaaiaa ||4||

The fire of God is lit by intuition, and with one shot, the fortress is taken. ||4||


ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਲੈ ਲਰਨੇ ਲਾਗਾ ਤੋਰੇ ਦੁਇ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ॥

सतु संतोखु लै लरने लागा तोरे दुइ दरवाजा ॥

Satu santtokhu lai larane laagaa tore dui daravaajaa ||

Taking truth and contentment with me, I begin the battle and storm both the gates.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਕਰਿਓ ਗਢ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੫॥

साधसंगति अरु गुर की क्रिपा ते पकरिओ गढ को राजा ॥५॥

Saadhasanggati aru gur kee kripaa te pakario gadh ko raajaa ||5||

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and by Guru's Grace, I have captured the king of the fortress. ||5||


ਭਗਵਤ ਭੀਰਿ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀ ਕਟੀ ਕਾਲ ਭੈ ਫਾਸੀ ॥

भगवत भीरि सकति सिमरन की कटी काल भै फासी ॥

Bhagavat bheeri sakati simaran kee katee kaal bhai phaasee ||

With the army of God's devotees, and Shakti, the power of meditation, I have snapped the noose of the fear of death.

ਦਾਸੁ ਕਮੀਰੁ ਚੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਓ ਗੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਊਪਰਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਲੀਓ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥੬॥੯॥੧੭॥

दासु कमीरु चड़्हिओ गड़्ह ऊपरि राजु लीओ अबिनासी ॥६॥९॥१७॥

Daasu kameeru cha(rr)hio ga(rr)h upari raaju leeo abinaasee ||6||9||17||

Slave Kabeer has climbed to the top of the fortress; I have obtained the eternal, imperishable domain. ||6||9||17||


ਗੰਗ ਗੁਸਾਇਨਿ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ॥

गंग गुसाइनि गहिर ग्मभीर ॥

Gangg gusaaini gahir gambbheer ||

The mother Ganges is deep and profound.

ਜੰਜੀਰ ਬਾਂਧਿ ਕਰਿ ਖਰੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧॥

जंजीर बांधि करि खरे कबीर ॥१॥

Janjjeer baandhi kari khare kabeer ||1||

Tied up in chains, they took Kabeer there. ||1||


ਮਨੁ ਨ ਡਿਗੈ ਤਨੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਡਰਾਇ ॥

मनु न डिगै तनु काहे कउ डराइ ॥

Manu na digai tanu kaahe kau daraai ||

My mind was not shaken; why should my body be afraid?

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

चरन कमल चितु रहिओ समाइ ॥ रहाउ ॥

Charan kamal chitu rahio samaai || rahaau ||

My consciousness remained immersed in the Lotus Feet of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਗੰਗਾ ਕੀ ਲਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਟੁਟੀ ਜੰਜੀਰ ॥

गंगा की लहरि मेरी टुटी जंजीर ॥

Ganggaa kee lahari meree tutee janjjeer ||

The waves of the Ganges broke the chains,

ਮ੍ਰਿਗਛਾਲਾ ਪਰ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੨॥

म्रिगछाला पर बैठे कबीर ॥२॥

Mrigachhaalaa par baithe kabeer ||2||

And Kabeer was seated on a deer skin. ||2||


ਕਹਿ ਕੰਬੀਰ ਕੋਊ ਸੰਗ ਨ ਸਾਥ ॥

कहि कंबीर कोऊ संग न साथ ॥

Kahi kambbeer kou sangg na saath ||

Says Kabeer, I have no friend or companion.

ਜਲ ਥਲ ਰਾਖਨ ਹੈ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ॥੩॥੧੦॥੧੮॥

जल थल राखन है रघुनाथ ॥३॥१०॥१८॥

Jal thal raakhan hai raghunaath ||3||10||18||

On the water, and on the land, the Lord is my Protector. ||3||10||18||


ਭੈਰਉ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ਘਰੁ ੨

भैरउ कबीर जीउ असटपदी घरु २

Bhairau kabeer jeeu asatapadee gharu 2

Bhairao, Kabeer Jee, Ashtapadees, Second House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਅਗਮ ਦ੍ਰੁਗਮ ਗੜਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਬਾਸ ॥

अगम द्रुगम गड़ि रचिओ बास ॥

Agam drugam ga(rr)i rachio baas ||

God constructed a fortress, inaccessible and unreachable, in which He dwells.

ਜਾ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥

जा महि जोति करे परगास ॥

Jaa mahi joti kare paragaas ||

There, His Divine Light radiates forth.

ਬਿਜੁਲੀ ਚਮਕੈ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥

बिजुली चमकै होइ अनंदु ॥

Bijulee chamakai hoi ananddu ||

Lightning blazes, and bliss prevails there,

ਜਿਹ ਪਉੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥੧॥

जिह पउड़्हे प्रभ बाल गोबिंद ॥१॥

Jih pau(rr)he prbh baal gobindd ||1||

Where the Eternally Young Lord God abides. ||1||


ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

इहु जीउ राम नाम लिव लागै ॥

Ihu jeeu raam naam liv laagai ||

This soul is lovingly attuned to the Lord's Name.

ਜਰਾ ਮਰਨੁ ਛੂਟੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जरा मरनु छूटै भ्रमु भागै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jaraa maranu chhootai bhrmu bhaagai ||1|| rahaau ||

It is saved from old age and death, and its doubt runs away. ||1|| Pause ||


ਅਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਸਿਉ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

अबरन बरन सिउ मन ही प्रीति ॥

Abaran baran siu man hee preeti ||

Those who believe in high and low social classes,

ਹਉਮੈ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੀਤ ॥

हउमै गावनि गावहि गीत ॥

Haumai gaavani gaavahi geet ||

Only sing songs and chants of egotism.

ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਹੋਤ ਝੁਨਕਾਰ ॥

अनहद सबद होत झुनकार ॥

Anahad sabad hot jhunakaar ||

The Unstruck Sound-current of the Shabad, the Word of God, resounds in that place,

ਜਿਹ ਪਉੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੨॥

जिह पउड़्हे प्रभ स्री गोपाल ॥२॥

Jih pau(rr)he prbh sree gopaal ||2||

Where the Supreme Lord God abides. ||2||


ਖੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ॥

खंडल मंडल मंडल मंडा ॥

Khanddal manddal manddal manddaa ||

He creates planets, solar systems and galaxies;

ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੀਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਖੰਡਾ ॥

त्रिअ असथान तीनि त्रिअ खंडा ॥

Tria asathaan teeni tria khanddaa ||

He destroys the three worlds, the three gods and the three qualities.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਭ ਅੰਤ ॥

अगम अगोचरु रहिआ अभ अंत ॥

Agam agocharu rahiaa abh antt ||

The Inaccessible and Unfathomable Lord God dwells in the heart.

ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਧਰਨੀਧਰ ਮੰਤ ॥੩॥

पारु न पावै को धरनीधर मंत ॥३॥

Paaru na paavai ko dharaneedhar mantt ||3||

No one can find the limits or the secrets of the Lord of the World. ||3||


ਕਦਲੀ ਪੁਹਪ ਧੂਪ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥

कदली पुहप धूप परगास ॥

Kadalee puhap dhoop paragaas ||

The Lord shines forth in the plantain flower and the sunshine.

ਰਜ ਪੰਕਜ ਮਹਿ ਲੀਓ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥

रज पंकज महि लीओ निवास ॥

Raj pankkaj mahi leeo nivaas ||

He dwells in the pollen of the lotus flower.

ਦੁਆਦਸ ਦਲ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੰਤ ॥

दुआदस दल अभ अंतरि मंत ॥

Duaadas dal abh anttari mantt ||

The Lord's secret is within the twelve petals of the heart-lotus.

ਜਹ ਪਉੜੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਮਲਾ ਕੰਤ ॥੪॥

जह पउड़े स्री कमला कंत ॥४॥

Jah pau(rr)e sree kamalaa kantt ||4||

The Supreme Lord, the Lord of Lakshmi dwells there. ||4||


ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੋ ਕਾਸੁ ॥

अरध उरध मुखि लागो कासु ॥

Aradh uradh mukhi laago kaasu ||

He is like the sky, stretching across the lower, upper and middle realms.

ਸੁੰਨ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

सुंन मंडल महि करि परगासु ॥

Sunn manddal mahi kari paragaasu ||

In the profoundly silent celestial realm, He radiates forth.

ਊਹਾਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਨਾਹੀ ਚੰਦ ॥

ऊहां सूरज नाही चंद ॥

Uhaan sooraj naahee chandd ||

Neither the sun nor the moon are there,

ਆਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਅਨੰਦ ॥੫॥

आदि निरंजनु करै अनंद ॥५॥

Aadi niranjjanu karai anandd ||5||

But the Primal Immaculate Lord celebrates there. ||5||


ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਿ ਪਿੰਡਿ ਸੋ ਜਾਨੁ ॥

सो ब्रहमंडि पिंडि सो जानु ॥

So brhamanddi pinddi so jaanu ||

Know that He is in the universe, and in the body as well.

ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥

मान सरोवरि करि इसनानु ॥

Maan sarovari kari isanaanu ||

Take your cleansing bath in the Mansarovar Lake.

ਸੋਹੰ ਸੋ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਜਾਪ ॥

सोहं सो जा कउ है जाप ॥

Sohann so jaa kau hai jaap ||

Chant "Sohan" - "He is me.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਲਿਪਤ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਪੁੰਨ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਪ ॥੬॥

जा कउ लिपत न होइ पुंन अरु पाप ॥६॥

Jaa kau lipat na hoi punn aru paap ||6||

He is not affected by either virtue or vice. ||6||


ਅਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਘਾਮ ਨਹੀ ਛਾਮ ॥

अबरन बरन घाम नही छाम ॥

Abaran baran ghaam nahee chhaam ||

He is not affected by either high or low social class, sunshine or shade.

ਅਵਰ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਮ ॥

अवर न पाईऐ गुर की साम ॥

Avar na paaeeai gur kee saam ||

He is in the Guru's Sanctuary, and nowhere else.

ਟਾਰੀ ਨ ਟਰੈ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

टारी न टरै आवै न जाइ ॥

Taaree na tarai aavai na jaai ||

He is not diverted by diversions, comings or goings.

ਸੁੰਨ ਸਹਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੭॥

सुंन सहज महि रहिओ समाइ ॥७॥

Sunn sahaj mahi rahio samaai ||7||

Remain intuitively absorbed in the celestial void. ||7||


ਮਨ ਮਧੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ ॥

मन मधे जानै जे कोइ ॥

Man madhe jaanai je koi ||

One who knows the Lord in the mind

ਜੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੋ ਆਪੈ ਹੋਇ ॥

जो बोलै सो आपै होइ ॥

Jo bolai so aapai hoi ||

Whatever he says, comes to pass.

ਜੋਤਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਕਰੈ ॥

जोति मंत्रि मनि असथिरु करै ॥

Joti manttri mani asathiru karai ||

One who firmly implants the Lord's Divine Light, and His Mantra within the mind

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਤਰੈ ॥੮॥੧॥

कहि कबीर सो प्रानी तरै ॥८॥१॥

Kahi kabeer so praanee tarai ||8||1||

- says Kabeer, such a mortal crosses over to the other side. ||8||1||


ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥

कोटि सूर जा कै परगास ॥

Koti soor jaa kai paragaas ||

Millions of suns shine for Him,

ਕੋਟਿ ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਕਬਿਲਾਸ ॥

कोटि महादेव अरु कबिलास ॥

Koti mahaadev aru kabilaas ||

Millions of Shivas and Kailash mountains.

ਦੁਰਗਾ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਰਦਨੁ ਕਰੈ ॥

दुरगा कोटि जा कै मरदनु करै ॥

Duragaa koti jaa kai maradanu karai ||

Millions of Durga goddesses massage His Feet.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਕੋਟਿ ਬੇਦ ਉਚਰੈ ॥੧॥

ब्रहमा कोटि बेद उचरै ॥१॥

Brhamaa koti bed ucharai ||1||

Millions of Brahmas chant the Vedas for Him. ||1||


ਜਉ ਜਾਚਉ ਤਉ ਕੇਵਲ ਰਾਮ ॥

जउ जाचउ तउ केवल राम ॥

Jau jaachau tau keval raam ||

When I beg, I beg only from the Lord.

ਆਨ ਦੇਵ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आन देव सिउ नाही काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Aan dev siu naahee kaam ||1|| rahaau ||

ਕੋਟਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਰਾਕ ॥

कोटि चंद्रमे करहि चराक ॥

Koti chanddrme karahi charaak ||

Millions of moons twinkle in the sky.

ਸੁਰ ਤੇਤੀਸਉ ਜੇਵਹਿ ਪਾਕ ॥

सुर तेतीसउ जेवहि पाक ॥

Sur teteesau jevahi paak ||

Three hundred thirty million gods eat the Lord's offerings.

ਨਵ ਗ੍ਰਹ ਕੋਟਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ॥

नव ग्रह कोटि ठाढे दरबार ॥

Nav grh koti thaadhe darabaar ||

The nine stars, a million times over, stand at His Door.

ਧਰਮ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਹਾਰ ॥੨॥

धरम कोटि जा कै प्रतिहार ॥२॥

Dharam koti jaa kai prtihaar ||2||

Millions of Righteous Judges of Dharma are His gate-keepers. ||2||


ਪਵਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਚਉਬਾਰੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ॥

पवन कोटि चउबारे फिरहि ॥

Pavan koti chaubaare phirahi ||

Millions of winds blow around Him in the four directions.

ਬਾਸਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੇਜ ਬਿਸਥਰਹਿ ॥

बासक कोटि सेज बिसथरहि ॥

Baasak koti sej bisatharahi ||

Millions of serpents prepare His bed.

ਸਮੁੰਦ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰ ॥

समुंद कोटि जा के पानीहार ॥

Samundd koti jaa ke paaneehaar ||

Millions of oceans are His water-carriers.

ਰੋਮਾਵਲਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਭਾਰ ॥੩॥

रोमावलि कोटि अठारह भार ॥३॥

Romaavali koti athaarah bhaar ||3||

The eighteen million loads of vegetation are His Hair. ||3||


ਕੋਟਿ ਕਮੇਰ ਭਰਹਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥

कोटि कमेर भरहि भंडार ॥

Koti kamer bharahi bhanddaar ||

Millions of treasurers fill His Treasury.

ਕੋਟਿਕ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਕਰੈ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥

कोटिक लखिमी करै सीगार ॥

Kotik lakhimee karai seegaar ||

Millions of Lakshmis adorn themselves for Him.

ਕੋਟਿਕ ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਬਹੁ ਹਿਰਹਿ ॥

कोटिक पाप पुंन बहु हिरहि ॥

Kotik paap punn bahu hirahi ||

Many millions of vices and virtues look up to Him.

ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ॥੪॥

इंद्र कोटि जा के सेवा करहि ॥४॥

Ianddr koti jaa ke sevaa karahi ||4||

Millions of Indras serve Him. ||4||


ਛਪਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਹਾਰ ॥

छपन कोटि जा कै प्रतिहार ॥

Chhapan koti jaa kai prtihaar ||

Fifty-six million clouds are His.

ਨਗਰੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਖਿਅਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

नगरी नगरी खिअत अपार ॥

Nagaree nagaree khiat apaar ||

In each and every village, His infinite fame has spread.

ਲਟ ਛੂਟੀ ਵਰਤੈ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥

लट छूटी वरतै बिकराल ॥

Lat chhootee varatai bikaraal ||

Wild demons with disheveled hair move about.

ਕੋਟਿ ਕਲਾ ਖੇਲੈ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥੫॥

कोटि कला खेलै गोपाल ॥५॥

Koti kalaa khelai gopaal ||5||

The Lord plays in countless ways. ||5||


ਕੋਟਿ ਜਗ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਦਰਬਾਰ ॥

कोटि जग जा कै दरबार ॥

Koti jag jaa kai darabaar ||

Millions of charitable feasts are held in His Court,

ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੈਕਾਰ ॥

गंध्रब कोटि करहि जैकार ॥

Ganddhrb koti karahi jaikaar ||

And millions of celestial singers celebrate His victory.

ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕੋਟਿ ਸਭੈ ਗੁਨ ਕਹੈ ॥

बिदिआ कोटि सभै गुन कहै ॥

Bidiaa koti sabhai gun kahai ||

Millions of sciences all sing His Praises.

ਤਊ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ॥੬॥

तऊ पारब्रहम का अंतु न लहै ॥६॥

Tau paarabrham kaa anttu na lahai ||6||

Even so, the limits of the Supreme Lord God cannot be found. ||6||


ਬਾਵਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੋਮਾਵਲੀ ॥

बावन कोटि जा कै रोमावली ॥

Baavan koti jaa kai romaavalee ||

Rama, with millions of monkeys,

ਰਾਵਨ ਸੈਨਾ ਜਹ ਤੇ ਛਲੀ ॥

रावन सैना जह ते छली ॥

Raavan sainaa jah te chhalee ||

Conquered Raawan's army.

ਸਹਸ ਕੋਟਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਹਤ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥

सहस कोटि बहु कहत पुरान ॥

Sahas koti bahu kahat puraan ||

Billions of Puraanas greatly praise Him;

ਦੁਰਜੋਧਨ ਕਾ ਮਥਿਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੭॥

दुरजोधन का मथिआ मानु ॥७॥

Durajodhan kaa mathiaa maanu ||7||

He humbled the pride of Duyodhan. ||7||


ਕੰਦ੍ਰਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਧਰਹਿ ॥

कंद्रप कोटि जा कै लवै न धरहि ॥

Kanddrp koti jaa kai lavai na dharahi ||

Millions of gods of love cannot compete with Him.

ਅੰਤਰ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਹਰਹਿ ॥

अंतर अंतरि मनसा हरहि ॥

Anttar anttari manasaa harahi ||

He steals the hearts of mortal beings.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਨ ॥

कहि कबीर सुनि सारिगपान ॥

Kahi kabeer suni saarigapaan ||

Says Kabeer, please hear me, O Lord of the World.

The earth is in bloom, and the sky is in bloom.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਆਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

घटि घटि मउलिआ आतम प्रगासु ॥१॥

Ghati ghati mauliaa aatam prgaasu ||1||

Each and every heart has blossomed forth, and the soul is illumined. ||1||


ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਅਨਤ ਭਾਇ ॥

राजा रामु मउलिआ अनत भाइ ॥

Raajaa raamu mauliaa anat bhaai ||

My Sovereign Lord King blossoms forth in countless ways.

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जह देखउ तह रहिआ समाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jah dekhau tah rahiaa samaai ||1|| rahaau ||

ਦੁਤੀਆ ਮਉਲੇ ਚਾਰਿ ਬੇਦ ॥

दुतीआ मउले चारि बेद ॥

Duteeaa maule chaari bed ||

The four Vedas blossom forth in duality.

ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਮਉਲੀ ਸਿਉ ਕਤੇਬ ॥੨॥

सिम्रिति मउली सिउ कतेब ॥२॥

Simmmriti maulee siu kateb ||2||

The Simritees blossom forth, along with the Koran and the Bible. ||2||


ਸੰਕਰੁ ਮਉਲਿਓ ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ॥

संकरु मउलिओ जोग धिआन ॥

Sankkaru maulio jog dhiaan ||

Shiva blossoms forth in Yoga and meditation.

ਕਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਭ ਸਮਾਨ ॥੩॥੧॥

कबीर को सुआमी सभ समान ॥३॥१॥

Kabeer ko suaamee sabh samaan ||3||1||

Kabeer's Lord and Master pervades in all alike. ||3||1||


ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜਨ ਮਾਤੇ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥

पंडित जन माते पड़्हि पुरान ॥

Panddit jan maate pa(rr)hi puraan ||

The Pandits, the Hindu religious scholars, are intoxicated, reading the Puraanas.

ਜੋਗੀ ਮਾਤੇ ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ॥

जोगी माते जोग धिआन ॥

Jogee maate jog dhiaan ||

The Yogis are intoxicated in Yoga and meditation.

ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਮਾਤੇ ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ॥

संनिआसी माते अहमेव ॥

Sanniaasee maate ahammev ||

The Sannyaasees are intoxicated in egotism.

ਤਪਸੀ ਮਾਤੇ ਤਪ ਕੈ ਭੇਵ ॥੧॥

तपसी माते तप कै भेव ॥१॥

Tapasee maate tap kai bhev ||1||

The penitents are intoxicated with the mystery of penance. ||1||


ਸਭ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਜਾਗ ॥

सभ मद माते कोऊ न जाग ॥

Sabh mad maate kou na jaag ||

All are intoxicated with the wine of Maya; no one is awake and aware.

ਸੰਗ ਹੀ ਚੋਰ ਘਰੁ ਮੁਸਨ ਲਾਗ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

संग ही चोर घरु मुसन लाग ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sangg hee chor gharu musan laag ||1|| rahaau ||

The thieves are with them, plundering their homes. ||1|| Pause ||


ਜਾਗੈ ਸੁਕਦੇਉ ਅਰੁ ਅਕੂਰੁ ॥

जागै सुकदेउ अरु अकूरु ॥

Jaagai sukadeu aru akooru ||

Suk Dayv and Akrur are awake and aware.

ਹਣਵੰਤੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਧਰਿ ਲੰਕੂਰੁ ॥

हणवंतु जागै धरि लंकूरु ॥

Ha(nn)avanttu jaagai dhari lankkooru ||

Hanuman with his tail is awake and aware.

ਸੰਕਰੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਚਰਨ ਸੇਵ ॥

संकरु जागै चरन सेव ॥

Sankkaru jaagai charan sev ||

Shiva is awake, serving at the Lord's Feet.

ਕਲਿ ਜਾਗੇ ਨਾਮਾ ਜੈਦੇਵ ॥੨॥

कलि जागे नामा जैदेव ॥२॥

Kali jaage naamaa jaidev ||2||

Naam Dayv and Jai Dayv are awake in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||2||


ਜਾਗਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ॥

जागत सोवत बहु प्रकार ॥

Jaagat sovat bahu prkaar ||

There are many ways of being awake, and sleeping.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਸੋਈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

गुरमुखि जागै सोई सारु ॥

Guramukhi jaagai soee saaru ||

To be awake as Gurmukh is the most excellent way.

ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਕੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਕਾਮ ॥

इसु देही के अधिक काम ॥

Isu dehee ke adhik kaam ||

The most sublime of all the actions of this body,

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਭਜਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥੩॥੨॥

कहि कबीर भजि राम नाम ॥३॥२॥

Kahi kabeer bhaji raam naam ||3||2||

Says Kabeer, is to meditate and vibrate on the Lord's Name. ||3||2||


ਜੋਇ ਖਸਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਾਇਆ ॥

जोइ खसमु है जाइआ ॥

Joi khasamu hai jaaiaa ||

The wife gives birth to her husband.

ਪੂਤਿ ਬਾਪੁ ਖੇਲਾਇਆ ॥

पूति बापु खेलाइआ ॥

Pooti baapu khelaaiaa ||

The son leads his father in play.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਣਾ ਖੀਰੁ ਪਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

बिनु स्रवणा खीरु पिलाइआ ॥१॥

Binu srva(nn)aa kheeru pilaaiaa ||1||

Without breasts, the mother nurses her baby. ||1||


ਦੇਖਹੁ ਲੋਗਾ ਕਲਿ ਕੋ ਭਾਉ ॥

देखहु लोगा कलि को भाउ ॥

Dekhahu logaa kali ko bhaau ||

Behold, people! This is how it is in the Dark Age of Kali Yuga.

ਸੁਤਿ ਮੁਕਲਾਈ ਅਪਨੀ ਮਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सुति मुकलाई अपनी माउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Suti mukalaaee apanee maau ||1|| rahaau ||

The son marries his mother. ||1|| Pause ||


ਪਗਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੁਰੀਆ ਮਾਰਤਾ ॥

पगा बिनु हुरीआ मारता ॥

Pagaa binu hureeaa maarataa ||

Without feet, the mortal jumps.

ਬਦਨੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਖਿਰ ਖਿਰ ਹਾਸਤਾ ॥

बदनै बिनु खिर खिर हासता ॥

Badanai binu khir khir haasataa ||

Without a mouth, he bursts into laughter.

ਨਿਦ੍ਰਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਰੁ ਪੈ ਸੋਵੈ ॥

निद्रा बिनु नरु पै सोवै ॥

Nidraa binu naru pai sovai ||

Without feeling sleepy, he lays down and sleeps.

ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਸਨ ਖੀਰੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ॥੨॥

बिनु बासन खीरु बिलोवै ॥२॥

Binu baasan kheeru bilovai ||2||

Without a churn, the milk is churned. ||2||


ਬਿਨੁ ਅਸਥਨ ਗਊ ਲਵੇਰੀ ॥

बिनु असथन गऊ लवेरी ॥

Binu asathan gau laveree ||

Without udders, the cow gives milk.

ਪੈਡੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਟ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥

पैडे बिनु बाट घनेरी ॥

Paide binu baat ghaneree ||

Without travelling, a long journey is made.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਟ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

बिनु सतिगुर बाट न पाई ॥

Binu satigur baat na paaee ||

Without the True Guru, the path is not found.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਸਮਝਾਈ ॥੩॥੩॥

कहु कबीर समझाई ॥३॥३॥

Kahu kabeer samajhaaee ||3||3||

Says Kabeer, see this, and understand. ||3||3||


ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਪਠਾਏ ਪੜਨ ਸਾਲ ॥

प्रहलाद पठाए पड़न साल ॥

Prhalaad pathaae pa(rr)an saal ||

Prahlaad was sent to school.

ਸੰਗਿ ਸਖਾ ਬਹੁ ਲੀਏ ਬਾਲ ॥

संगि सखा बहु लीए बाल ॥

Sanggi sakhaa bahu leee baal ||

He took many of his friends along with him.

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਹਾ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਵਸਿ ਆਲ ਜਾਲ ॥

मो कउ कहा पड़्हावसि आल जाल ॥

Mo kau kahaa pa(rr)haavasi aal jaal ||

He asked his teacher, ""Why do you teach me about worldly affairs?

ਮੇਰੀ ਪਟੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ॥੧॥

मेरी पटीआ लिखि देहु स्री गोपाल ॥१॥

Meree pateeaa likhi dehu sree gaopaal ||1||

Write the Name of the Dear Lord on my tablet."" ||1||


ਨਹੀ ਛੋਡਉ ਰੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ॥

नही छोडउ रे बाबा राम नाम ॥

Nahee chhodau re baabaa raam naam ||

O Baba, I will not forsake the Name of the Lord.

ਮੇਰੋ ਅਉਰ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਨ ਸਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मेरो अउर पड़्हन सिउ नही कामु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Mero aur pa(rr)hn siu nahee kaamu ||1|| rahaau ||

ਸੰਡੈ ਮਰਕੈ ਕਹਿਓ ਜਾਇ ॥

संडै मरकै कहिओ जाइ ॥

Sanddai marakai kahio jaai ||

Sanda and Marka went to the king to complain.

ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਬੇਗਿ ਧਾਇ ॥

प्रहलाद बुलाए बेगि धाइ ॥

Prhalaad bulaae begi dhaai ||

He sent for Prahlaad to come at once.

ਤੂ ਰਾਮ ਕਹਨ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੁ ਬਾਨਿ ॥

तू राम कहन की छोडु बानि ॥

Too raam kahan kee chhodu baani ||

He said to him, "Stop uttering the Lord's Name.

ਤੁਝੁ ਤੁਰਤੁ ਛਡਾਊ ਮੇਰੋ ਕਹਿਓ ਮਾਨਿ ॥੨॥

तुझु तुरतु छडाऊ मेरो कहिओ मानि ॥२॥

Tujhu turatu chhadaau mero kahio maani ||2||

I shall release you at once, if you obey my words."" ||2||


ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਹਾ ਸਤਾਵਹੁ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ॥

मो कउ कहा सतावहु बार बार ॥

Mo kau kahaa sataavahu baar baar ||

Prahlaad answered, ""Why do you annoy me, over and over again?

ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਗਿਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਪਹਾਰ ॥

प्रभि जल थल गिरि कीए पहार ॥

Prbhi jal thal giri keee pahaar ||

God created the water, land, hills and mountains.

ਇਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਗਾਰਿ ॥

इकु रामु न छोडउ गुरहि गारि ॥

Iku raamu na chhodau gurahi gaari ||

I shall not forsake the One Lord; if I did, I would be going against my Guru.

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਘਾਲਿ ਜਾਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ॥੩॥

मो कउ घालि जारि भावै मारि डारि ॥३॥

Mo kau ghaali jaari bhaavai maari daari ||3||

You might as well throw me into the fire and kill me."" ||3||


ਕਾਢਿ ਖੜਗੁ ਕੋਪਿਓ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥

काढि खड़गु कोपिओ रिसाइ ॥

Kaadhi kha(rr)agu kopio risaai ||

The king became angry and drew his sword.

ਤੁਝ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਤਾਇ ॥

तुझ राखनहारो मोहि बताइ ॥

Tujh raakhanahaaro mohi bataai ||

"Show me your protector now!"

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਥੰਭ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸੇ ਕੈ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥

प्रभ थ्मभ ते निकसे कै बिसथार ॥

Prbh thambbh te nikase kai bisathaar ||

So God emerged out of the pillar, and assumed a mighty form.

ਹਰਨਾਖਸੁ ਛੇਦਿਓ ਨਖ ਬਿਦਾਰ ॥੪॥

हरनाखसु छेदिओ नख बिदार ॥४॥

Haranaakhasu chhedio nakh bidaar ||4||

He killed Harnaakhash, tearing him apart with his nails. ||4||


ਓਇ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇਵਾਧਿ ਦੇਵ ॥

ओइ परम पुरख देवाधि देव ॥

Oi param purakh devaadhi dev ||

The Supreme Lord God, the Divinity of the divine,

ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤਿ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਭੇਵ ॥

भगति हेति नरसिंघ भेव ॥

Bhagati heti narasinggh bhev ||

For the sake of His devotee, assumed the form of the man-lion.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਲਖੈ ਨ ਪਾਰ ॥

कहि कबीर को लखै न पार ॥

Kahi kabeer ko lakhai na paar ||

Says Kabeer, no one can know the Lord's limits.

ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ॥੫॥੪॥

प्रहलाद उधारे अनिक बार ॥५॥४॥

Prhalaad udhaare anik baar ||5||4||

He saves His devotees like Prahlaad over and over again. ||5||4||


ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਮਧੇ ਮਦਨ ਚੋਰ ॥

इसु तन मन मधे मदन चोर ॥

Isu tan man madhe madan chor ||

Within the body and mind are thieves like sexual desire,

ਜਿਨਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਿਰਿ ਲੀਨ ਮੋਰ ॥

जिनि गिआन रतनु हिरि लीन मोर ॥

Jini giaan ratanu hiri leen mor ||

Which has stolen my jewel of spiritual wisdom.

ਮੈ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਹਉ ਕਾਹਿ ॥

मै अनाथु प्रभ कहउ काहि ॥

Mai anaathu prbh kahau kaahi ||

I am a poor orphan, O God; unto whom should I complain?

ਕੋ ਕੋ ਨ ਬਿਗੂਤੋ ਮੈ ਕੋ ਆਹਿ ॥੧॥

को को न बिगूतो मै को आहि ॥१॥

Ko ko na bigooto mai ko aahi ||1||

Who has not been ruined by sexual desire? What am I? ||1||


ਮਾਧਉ ਦਾਰੁਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

माधउ दारुन दुखु सहिओ न जाइ ॥

Maadhau daarun dukhu sahio na jaai ||

O Lord, I cannot endure this agonizing pain.

ਮੇਰੋ ਚਪਲ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਉ ਕਹਾ ਬਸਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मेरो चपल बुधि सिउ कहा बसाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Mero chapal budhi siu kahaa basaai ||1|| rahaau ||

What power does my fickle mind have against it? ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਨਕ ਸਨੰਦਨ ਸਿਵ ਸੁਕਾਦਿ ॥

सनक सनंदन सिव सुकादि ॥

Sanak sananddan siv sukaadi ||

Sanak, Sanandan, Shiva and Suk Dayv

ਨਾਭਿ ਕਮਲ ਜਾਨੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ ॥

नाभि कमल जाने ब्रहमादि ॥

Naabhi kamal jaane brhamaadi ||

Were born out of Brahma's naval chakra.

ਕਬਿ ਜਨ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਟਾਧਾਰਿ ॥

कबि जन जोगी जटाधारि ॥

Kabi jan jogee jataadhaari ||

The poets and the Yogis with their matted hair

ਸਭ ਆਪਨ ਅਉਸਰ ਚਲੇ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

सभ आपन अउसर चले सारि ॥२॥

Sabh aapan ausar chale saari ||2||

All lived their lives with good behavior. ||2||


ਤੂ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਥਾਹ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

तू अथाहु मोहि थाह नाहि ॥

Too athaahu mohi thaah naahi ||

You are Unfathomable; I cannot know Your depth.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਹਉ ਕਾਹਿ ॥

प्रभ दीना नाथ दुखु कहउ काहि ॥

Prbh deenaa naath dukhu kahau kaahi ||

O God, Master of the meek, unto whom should I tell my pains?

ਮੋਰੋ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਥਿ ਧੀਰ ॥

मोरो जनम मरन दुखु आथि धीर ॥

Moro janam maran dukhu aathi dheer ||

Please rid me of the pains of birth and death, and bless me with peace.

ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੁਨ ਰਉ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੩॥੫॥

सुख सागर गुन रउ कबीर ॥३॥५॥

Sukh saagar gun rau kabeer ||3||5||

Kabeer utters the Glorious Praises of God, the Ocean of peace. ||3||5||


ਨਾਇਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਬਨਜਾਰੇ ਪਾਚ ॥

नाइकु एकु बनजारे पाच ॥

Naaiku eku banajaare paach ||

There is one merchant and five traders.

ਬਰਧ ਪਚੀਸਕ ਸੰਗੁ ਕਾਚ ॥

बरध पचीसक संगु काच ॥

Baradh pacheesak sanggu kaach ||

The twenty-five oxen carry false merchandise.

ਨਉ ਬਹੀਆਂ ਦਸ ਗੋਨਿ ਆਹਿ ॥

नउ बहीआं दस गोनि आहि ॥

Nau baheeaan das goni aahi ||

There are nine poles which hold the ten bags.

ਕਸਨਿ ਬਹਤਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

कसनि बहतरि लागी ताहि ॥१॥

Kasani bahatari laagee taahi ||1||

The body is tied by the seventy-two ropes. ||1||


ਮੋਹਿ ਐਸੇ ਬਨਜ ਸਿਉ ਨਹੀਨ ਕਾਜੁ ॥

मोहि ऐसे बनज सिउ नहीन काजु ॥

Mohi aise banaj siu naheen kaaju ||

I don't care at all about such commerce.

ਜਿਹ ਘਟੈ ਮੂਲੁ ਨਿਤ ਬਢੈ ਬਿਆਜੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जिह घटै मूलु नित बढै बिआजु ॥ रहाउ ॥

Jih ghatai moolu nit badhai biaaju || rahaau ||

It depletes my capital, and the interest charges only increase. || Pause ||


ਸਾਤ ਸੂਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਨਜੁ ਕੀਨ ॥

सात सूत मिलि बनजु कीन ॥

Saat soot mili banaju keen ||

Weaving the seven threads together, they carry on their trade.

ਕਰਮ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਸੰਗ ਲੀਨ ॥

करम भावनी संग लीन ॥

Karam bhaavanee sangg leen ||

They are led on by the karma of their past actions.

ਤੀਨਿ ਜਗਾਤੀ ਕਰਤ ਰਾਰਿ ॥

तीनि जगाती करत रारि ॥

Teeni jagaatee karat raari ||

The three tax-collectors argue with them.

ਚਲੋ ਬਨਜਾਰਾ ਹਾਥ ਝਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

चलो बनजारा हाथ झारि ॥२॥

Chalo banajaaraa haath jhaari ||2||

The traders depart empty-handed. ||2||


ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹਿਰਾਨੀ ਬਨਜੁ ਟੂਟ ॥

पूंजी हिरानी बनजु टूट ॥

Poonjjee hiraanee banaju toot ||

Their capital is exhausted, and their trade is ruined.

ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਟਾਂਡੋ ਗਇਓ ਫੂਟਿ ॥

दह दिस टांडो गइओ फूटि ॥

Dah dis taando gaio phooti ||

The caravan is scattered in the ten directions.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨ ਸਰਸੀ ਕਾਜ ॥

कहि कबीर मन सरसी काज ॥

Kahi kabeer man sarasee kaaj ||

Says Kabeer, O mortal, your tasks will be accomplished,

ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਨੋ ਤ ਭਰਮ ਭਾਜ ॥੩॥੬॥

सहज समानो त भरम भाज ॥३॥६॥

Sahaj samaano ta bharam bhaaj ||3||6||

When you merge in the Celestial Lord; let your doubts run away. ||3||6||

माता जूठी पिता भी जूठा जूठे ही फल लागे ॥

Maataa joothee pitaa bhee joothaa joothe hee phal laage ||

The mother is impure, and the father is impure. The fruit they produce is impure.

ਆਵਹਿ ਜੂਠੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਭੀ ਜੂਠੇ ਜੂਠੇ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥

आवहि जूठे जाहि भी जूठे जूठे मरहि अभागे ॥१॥

Aavahi joothe jaahi bhee joothe joothe marahi abhaage ||1||

Impure they come, and impure they go. The unfortunate ones die in impurity. ||1||


ਕਹੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਵਨੁ ਠਾਉ ॥

कहु पंडित सूचा कवनु ठाउ ॥

Kahu panddit soochaa kavanu thaau ||

Tell me, O Pandit, O religious scholar, which place is uncontaminated?

ਜਹਾਂ ਬੈਸਿ ਹਉ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जहां बैसि हउ भोजनु खाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jahaan baisi hau bhojanu khaau ||1|| rahaau ||

Where should I sit to eat my meal? ||1|| Pause ||


ਜਿਹਬਾ ਜੂਠੀ ਬੋਲਤ ਜੂਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਿ ਜੂਠੇ ॥

जिहबा जूठी बोलत जूठा करन नेत्र सभि जूठे ॥

Jihabaa joothee bolat joothaa karan netr sabhi joothe ||

The tongue is impure, and its speech is impure. The eyes and ears are totally impure.

ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕੀ ਜੂਠਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੇ ਲੂਠੇ ॥੨॥

इंद्री की जूठि उतरसि नाही ब्रहम अगनि के लूठे ॥२॥

Ianddree kee joothi utarasi naahee brham agani ke loothe ||2||

The impurity of the sexual organs does not depart; the Brahmin is burnt by the fire. ||2||


ਅਗਨਿ ਭੀ ਜੂਠੀ ਪਾਨੀ ਜੂਠਾ ਜੂਠੀ ਬੈਸਿ ਪਕਾਇਆ ॥

अगनि भी जूठी पानी जूठा जूठी बैसि पकाइआ ॥

Agani bhee joothee paanee joothaa joothee baisi pakaaiaa ||

The fire is impure, and the water is impure. The place where you sit and cook is impure.

ਜੂਠੀ ਕਰਛੀ ਪਰੋਸਨ ਲਾਗਾ ਜੂਠੇ ਹੀ ਬੈਠਿ ਖਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

जूठी करछी परोसन लागा जूठे ही बैठि खाइआ ॥३॥

Joothee karachhee parosan laagaa joothe hee baithi khaaiaa ||3||

Impure is the ladle which serves the food. Impure is the one who sits down to eat it. ||3||


ਗੋਬਰੁ ਜੂਠਾ ਚਉਕਾ ਜੂਠਾ ਜੂਠੀ ਦੀਨੀ ਕਾਰਾ ॥

गोबरु जूठा चउका जूठा जूठी दीनी कारा ॥

Gobaru joothaa chaukaa joothaa joothee deenee kaaraa ||

Impure is the cow dung, and impure is the kitchen square. Impure are the lines that mark it off.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਤੇਈ ਨਰ ਸੂਚੇ ਸਾਚੀ ਪਰੀ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੭॥

कहि कबीर तेई नर सूचे साची परी बिचारा ॥४॥१॥७॥

Kahi kabeer teee nar sooche saachee paree bichaaraa ||4||1||7||

Says Kabeer, they alone are pure, who have obtained pure understanding. ||4||1||7||

ਤੇਰੀ ਪੂੰਛਟ ਊਪਰਿ ਝਮਕ ਬਾਲ ॥੧॥

तेरी पूंछट ऊपरि झमक बाल ॥१॥

Teree pooncchhat upari jhamak baal ||1||

The hair on your tail is shiny and lustrous. ||1||


ਇਸ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਹੈ ਸੁ ਤੂ ਢੂੰਢਿ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

इस घर महि है सु तू ढूंढि खाहि ॥

Is ghar mahi hai su too dhoonddhi khaahi ||

Look around, and eat anything in this house.

ਅਉਰ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਤੂ ਮਤਿ ਹੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अउर किस ही के तू मति ही जाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Aur kis hee ke too mati hee jaahi ||1|| rahaau ||

But do not go out to any other. ||1|| Pause ||


ਚਾਕੀ ਚਾਟਹਿ ਚੂਨੁ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

चाकी चाटहि चूनु खाहि ॥

Chaakee chaatahi choonu khaahi ||

You lick the grinding bowl, and eat the flour.

ਚਾਕੀ ਕਾ ਚੀਥਰਾ ਕਹਾਂ ਲੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

चाकी का चीथरा कहां लै जाहि ॥२॥

Chaakee kaa cheetharaa kahaan lai jaahi ||2||

Where have you taken the kitchen rags? ||2||


ਛੀਕੇ ਪਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਡੀਠਿ ॥

छीके पर तेरी बहुतु डीठि ॥

Chheeke par teree bahutu deethi ||

Your gaze is fixed on the basket in the cupboard.

ਮਤੁ ਲਕਰੀ ਸੋਟਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਰੈ ਪੀਠਿ ॥੩॥

मतु लकरी सोटा तेरी परै पीठि ॥३॥

Matu lakaree sotaa teree parai peethi ||3||

Watch out - a stick may strike you from behind. ||3||


ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਭੋਗ ਭਲੇ ਕੀਨ ॥

कहि कबीर भोग भले कीन ॥

Kahi kabeer bhog bhale keen ||

Says Kabeer, you have over-indulged in your pleasures.

ਮਤਿ ਕੋਊ ਮਾਰੈ ਈਂਟ ਢੇਮ ॥੪॥੧॥

मति कोऊ मारै ईंट ढेम ॥४॥१॥

Mati kou maarai eent dhem ||4||1||

Watch out - someone may throw a brick at you. ||4||1||

ਮਨ ਦਸ ਨਾਜੁ ਟਕਾ ਚਾਰਿ ਗਾਂਠੀ ਐਂਡੌ ਟੇਢੌ ਜਾਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मन दस नाजु टका चारि गांठी ऐंडौ टेढौ जातु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Man das naaju takaa chaari gaanthee aindau tedhau jaatu ||1|| rahaau ||

With a few pounds of grain and a few coins in your pocket, you are totally puffed up with pride. ||1|| Pause ||


ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਗਾਂਉ ਸਉ ਪਾਏ ਦੁਇ ਲਖ ਟਕਾ ਬਰਾਤ ॥

बहुतु प्रतापु गांउ सउ पाए दुइ लख टका बरात ॥

Bahutu prtaapu gaanu sau paae dui lakh takaa baraat ||

With great pomp and ceremony, you control a hundred villages, with an income of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

ਦਿਵਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੀ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਨ ਹਰ ਪਾਤ ॥੧॥

दिवस चारि की करहु साहिबी जैसे बन हर पात ॥१॥

Divas chaari kee karahu saahibee jaise ban har paat ||1||

The power you exert will last for only a few days, like the green leaves of the forest. ||1||


ਨਾ ਕੋਊ ਲੈ ਆਇਓ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾ ਕੋਊ ਲੈ ਜਾਤੁ ॥

ना कोऊ लै आइओ इहु धनु ना कोऊ लै जातु ॥

Naa kou lai aaio ihu dhanu naa kou lai jaatu ||

No one has brought this wealth with him, and no one will take it with him when he goes.

ਰਾਵਨ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਗਏ ਬਿਲਾਤ ॥੨॥

रावन हूं ते अधिक छत्रपति खिन महि गए बिलात ॥२॥

Raavan hoonn te adhik chhatrpati khin mahi gae bilaat ||2||

Emperors, even greater than Raawan, passed away in an instant. ||2||


ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਤ ॥

हरि के संत सदा थिरु पूजहु जो हरि नामु जपात ॥

Hari ke santt sadaa thiru poojahu jo hari naamu japaat ||

The Lord's Saints are steady and stable forever; they worship and adore Him, and chant the Lord's Name.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਤ ॥੩॥

जिन कउ क्रिपा करत है गोबिदु ते सतसंगि मिलात ॥३॥

Jin kau kripaa karat hai gobidu te satasanggi milaat ||3||

Those who are mercifully blessed by the Lord of the Universe, join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||3||


ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਨ ਚਲਤ ਸੰਗਾਤ ॥

मात पिता बनिता सुत स्मपति अंति न चलत संगात ॥

Maat pitaa banitaa sut samppati antti na chalat sanggaat ||

Mother, father, spouse, children and wealth will not go along with you in the end.

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਰਾਮ ਭਜੁ ਬਉਰੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਜਾਤ ॥੪॥੧॥

कहत कबीरु राम भजु बउरे जनमु अकारथ जात ॥४॥१॥

Kahat kabeeru raam bhaju baure janamu akaarath jaat ||4||1||

Says Kabeer, meditate and vibrate on the Lord, O madman. Your life is uselessly wasting away. ||4||1||


ਰਾਜਾਸ੍ਰਮ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਤੇਰੀ ॥

राजास्रम मिति नही जानी तेरी ॥

Raajaasrm miti nahee jaanee teree ||

I do not know the limits of Your Royal Ashram.

ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਹਉ ਚੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਹਸਤੋ ਜਾਇ ਸੁ ਰੋਵਤੁ ਆਵੈ ਰੋਵਤੁ ਜਾਇ ਸੁ ਹਸੈ ॥

हसतो जाइ सु रोवतु आवै रोवतु जाइ सु हसै ॥

Hasato jaai su rovatu aavai rovatu jaai su hasai ||

The one who goes laughing returns crying, and the one who goes crying returns laughing.

ਬਸਤੋ ਹੋਇ ਹੋਇ ਸੋੁ ਊਜਰੁ ਊਜਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਬਸੈ ॥੧॥

बसतो होइ होइ सो ऊजरु ऊजरु होइ सु बसै ॥१॥

Basato hoi hoi sao ujaru ujaru hoi su basai ||1||

What is inhabited becomes deserted, and what is deserted becomes inhabited. ||1||


ਜਲ ਤੇ ਥਲ ਕਰਿ ਥਲ ਤੇ ਕੂਆ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥

जल ते थल करि थल ते कूआ कूप ते मेरु करावै ॥

Jal te thal kari thal te kooaa koop te meru karaavai ||

The water turns into a desert, the desert turns into a well, and the well turns into a mountain.

ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਚਢਾਵੈ ਚਢੇ ਅਕਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

धरती ते आकासि चढावै चढे अकासि गिरावै ॥२॥

Dharatee te aakaasi chadhaavai chadhe akaasi giraavai ||2||

From the earth, the mortal is exalted to the Akaashic ethers; and from the ethers on high, he is thrown down again. ||2||


ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੇ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ॥

भेखारी ते राजु करावै राजा ते भेखारी ॥

Bhekhaaree te raaju karaavai raajaa te bhekhaaree ||

The beggar is transformed into a king, and the king into a beggar.

ਖਲ ਮੂਰਖ ਤੇ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਕਰਿਬੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਤੇ ਮੁਗਧਾਰੀ ॥੩॥

खल मूरख ते पंडितु करिबो पंडित ते मुगधारी ॥३॥

Khal moorakh te pandditu karibo panddit te mugadhaaree ||3||

The idiotic fool is transformed into a Pandit, a religious scholar, and the Pandit into a fool. ||3||


ਨਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਪੁਰਖਨ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਨਾਰੀ ॥

नारी ते जो पुरखु करावै पुरखन ते जो नारी ॥

Naaree te jo purakhu karaavai purakhan te jo naaree ||

The woman is transformed into a man, and the men into women.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੨॥

कहु कबीर साधू को प्रीतमु तिसु मूरति बलिहारी ॥४॥२॥

Kahu kabeer saadhoo ko preetamu tisu moorati balihaaree ||4||2||

Says Kabeer, God is the Beloved of the Holy Saints. I am a sacrifice to His image. ||4||2||

Other than the Lord, who is the Help and Support of the mind?

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਹਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਸਭ ਫਨ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मात पिता भाई सुत बनिता हितु लागो सभ फन का ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Maat pitaa bhaaee sut banitaa hitu laago sabh phan kaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Love and attachment to mother, father, sibling, child and spouse, is all just an illusion. ||1|| Pause ||


ਆਗੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਬਾਂਧਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ਧਨ ਕਾ ॥

आगे कउ किछु तुलहा बांधहु किआ भरवासा धन का ॥

Aage kau kichhu tulahaa baandhahu kiaa bharavaasaa dhan kaa ||

So build a raft to the world hereafter; what faith do you place in wealth?

ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਸਾ ਇਸ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਕਾ ਇਤਨਕੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਠਨਕਾ ॥੧॥

कहा बिसासा इस भांडे का इतनकु लागै ठनका ॥१॥

Kahaa bisaasaa is bhaande kaa itanaku laagai thanakaa ||1||

What confidence do you place in this fragile vessel; it breaks with the slightest stroke. ||1||


ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਪੁੰਨ ਫਲ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਧੂਰਿ ਬਾਂਛਹੁ ਸਭ ਜਨ ਕਾ ॥

सगल धरम पुंन फल पावहु धूरि बांछहु सभ जन का ॥

Sagal dharam punn phal paavahu dhoori baanchhahu sabh jan kaa ||

You shall obtain the rewards of all righteousness and goodness, if you desire to be the dust of all.

ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਉਡਨ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ਬਨ ਕਾ ॥੨॥੧॥੯॥

कहै कबीरु सुनहु रे संतहु इहु मनु उडन पंखेरू बन का ॥२॥१॥९॥

Kahai kabeeru sunahu re santtahu ihu manu udan pankkheroo ban kaa ||2||1||9||

Says Kabeer, listen, O Saints: this mind is like the bird, flying above the forest. ||2||1||9||

My anxious fears of death and rebirth have been taken away.

ਆਪਨ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਹਜ ਪਰਗਾਸੀ ॥੧॥

आपन रंगि सहज परगासी ॥१॥

Aapan ranggi sahaj paragaasee ||1||

The Celestial Lord has shown His Love for me. ||1||


ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥

प्रगटी जोति मिटिआ अंधिआरा ॥

Prgatee joti mitiaa anddhiaaraa ||

The Divine Light has dawned, and darkness has been dispelled.

ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

राम रतनु पाइआ करत बीचारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Raam ratanu paaiaa karat beechaaraa ||1|| rahaau ||

Contemplating the Lord, I have obtained the Jewel of His Name. ||1|| Pause ||


ਜਹ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਇਆਨਾ ॥

जह अनंदु दुखु दूरि पइआना ॥

Jah ananddu dukhu doori paiaanaa ||

Pain runs far away from that place where there is bliss.

ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਕੁ ਲਿਵ ਤਤੁ ਲੁਕਾਨਾ ॥੨॥

मनु मानकु लिव ततु लुकाना ॥२॥

Manu maanaku liv tatu lukaanaa ||2||

The jewel of the mind is focused and attuned to the essence of reality. ||2||


ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥

जो किछु होआ सु तेरा भाणा ॥

Jo kichhu hoaa su teraa bhaa(nn)aa ||

Whatever happens is by the Pleasure of Your Will.

ਜੋ ਇਵ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥੩॥

जो इव बूझै सु सहजि समाणा ॥३॥

Jo iv boojhai su sahaji samaa(nn)aa ||3||

Whoever understands this, is intuitively merged in the Lord. ||3||


ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਗਏ ਖੀਣਾ ॥

कहतु कबीरु किलबिख गए खीणा ॥

Kahatu kabeeru kilabikh gae khee(nn)aa ||

Says Kabeer, my sins have been obliterated.

ਮਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਲੀਣਾ ॥੪॥੧॥

मनु भइआ जगजीवन लीणा ॥४॥१॥

Manu bhaiaa jagajeevan lee(nn)aa ||4||1||

My mind has merged into the Lord, the Life of the World. ||4||1||

ਅਲਹੁ ਏਕੁ ਮਸੀਤਿ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਮੁਲਖੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ॥

अलहु एकु मसीति बसतु है अवरु मुलखु किसु केरा ॥

Alahu eku maseeti basatu hai avaru mulakhu kisu keraa ||

If the Lord Allah lives only in the mosque, then to whom does the rest of the world belong?

ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਦੁਹ ਮਹਿ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਹੇਰਾ ॥੧॥

हिंदू मूरति नाम निवासी दुह महि ततु न हेरा ॥१॥

Hinddoo moorati naam nivaasee duh mahi tatu na heraa ||1||

According to the Hindus, the Lord's Name abides in the idol, but there is no truth in either of these claims. ||1||


ਅਲਹ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਵਉ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਈ ॥

अलह राम जीवउ तेरे नाई ॥

Alah raam jeevau tere naaee ||

O Allah, O Raam, I live by Your Name.

ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਹਰਾਮਤਿ ਸਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तू करि मिहरामति साई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Too kari miharaamati saaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Please show mercy to me, O Master. ||1|| Pause ||


ਦਖਨ ਦੇਸਿ ਹਰੀ ਕਾ ਬਾਸਾ ਪਛਿਮਿ ਅਲਹ ਮੁਕਾਮਾ ॥

दखन देसि हरी का बासा पछिमि अलह मुकामा ॥

Dakhan desi haree kaa baasaa pachhimi alah mukaamaa ||

The God of the Hindus lives in the southern lands, and the God of the Muslims lives in the west.

ਦਿਲ ਮਹਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਦਿਲੈ ਦਿਲਿ ਖੋਜਹੁ ਏਹੀ ਠਉਰ ਮੁਕਾਮਾ ॥੨॥

दिल महि खोजि दिलै दिलि खोजहु एही ठउर मुकामा ॥२॥

Dil mahi khoji dilai dili khojahu ehee thaur mukaamaa ||2||

So search in your heart - look deep into your heart of hearts; this is the home and the place where God lives. ||2||


ਬ੍ਰਹਮਨ ਗਿਆਸ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਉਬੀਸਾ ਕਾਜੀ ਮਹ ਰਮਜਾਨਾ ॥

ब्रहमन गिआस करहि चउबीसा काजी मह रमजाना ॥

Brhaman giaas karahi chaubeesaa kaajee mah ramajaanaa ||

The Brahmins observe twenty-four fasts during the year, and the Muslims fast during the month of Ramadaan.

ਗਿਆਰਹ ਮਾਸ ਪਾਸ ਕੈ ਰਾਖੇ ਏਕੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥੩॥

गिआरह मास पास कै राखे एकै माहि निधाना ॥३॥

Giaarah maas paas kai raakhe ekai maahi nidhaanaa ||3||

The Muslims set aside eleven months, and claim that the treasure is only in the one month. ||3||


ਕਹਾ ਉਡੀਸੇ ਮਜਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਿਆ ਮਸੀਤਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਨਾਂਏਂ ॥

कहा उडीसे मजनु कीआ किआ मसीति सिरु नांएं ॥

Kahaa udeese majanu keeaa kiaa maseeti siru naanen ||

What is the use of bathing at Orissa? Why do the Muslims bow their heads in the mosque?

ਦਿਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰੈ ਕਿਆ ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਜਾਂਏਂ ॥੪॥

दिल महि कपटु निवाज गुजारै किआ हज काबै जांएं ॥४॥

Dil mahi kapatu nivaaj gujaarai kiaa haj kaabai jaanen ||4||

If someone has deception in his heart, what good is it for him to utter prayers? And what good is it for him to go on pilgrimage to Mecca? ||4||


ਏਤੇ ਅਉਰਤ ਮਰਦਾ ਸਾਜੇ ਏ ਸਭ ਰੂਪ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥

एते अउरत मरदा साजे ए सभ रूप तुम्हारे ॥

Ete aurat maradaa saaje e sabh roop tumhaare ||

You fashioned all these men and women, Lord. All these are Your Forms.

ਕਬੀਰੁ ਪੂੰਗਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਅਲਹ ਕਾ ਸਭ ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੫॥

कबीरु पूंगरा राम अलह का सभ गुर पीर हमारे ॥५॥

Kabeeru poonggaraa raam alah kaa sabh gur peer hamaare ||5||

Kabeer is the child of God, Allah, Raam. All the Gurus and prophets are mine. ||5||


ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਨਰ ਨਰਵੈ ਪਰਹੁ ਏਕ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥

कहतु कबीरु सुनहु नर नरवै परहु एक की सरना ॥

Kahatu kabeeru sunahu nar naravai parahu ek kee saranaa ||

Says Kabeer, listen, O men and women: seek the Sanctuary of the One.

ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਨਿਹਚੈ ਤਰਨਾ ॥੬॥੨॥

केवल नामु जपहु रे प्रानी तब ही निहचै तरना ॥६॥२॥

Keval naamu japahu re praanee tab hee nihachai taranaa ||6||2||

Chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O mortals, and you shall surely be carried across. ||6||2||

ਅਵਲਿ ਅਲਹ ਨੂਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਬੰਦੇ ॥

अवलि अलह नूरु उपाइआ कुदरति के सभ बंदे ॥

Avali alah nooru upaaiaa kudarati ke sabh bandde ||

First, Allah created the Light; then, by His Creative Power, He made all mortal beings.

ਏਕ ਨੂਰ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਕਉਨ ਭਲੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਦੇ ॥੧॥

एक नूर ते सभु जगु उपजिआ कउन भले को मंदे ॥१॥

Ek noor te sabhu jagu upajiaa kaun bhale ko mandde ||1||

From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, and who is bad? ||1||


ਲੋਗਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਨ ਭੂਲਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥

लोगा भरमि न भूलहु भाई ॥

Logaa bharami na bhoolahu bhaaee ||

O people, O Siblings of Destiny, do not wander deluded by doubt.

ਖਾਲਿਕੁ ਖਲਕ ਖਲਕ ਮਹਿ ਖਾਲਿਕੁ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਠਾਂਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

खालिकु खलक खलक महि खालिकु पूरि रहिओ स्रब ठांई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Khaaliku khalak khalak mahi khaaliku poori rahio srb thaanee ||1|| rahaau ||

The Creation is in the Creator, and the Creator is in the Creation, totally pervading and permeating all places. ||1|| Pause ||


ਮਾਟੀ ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸਾਜਨਹਾਰੈ ॥

माटी एक अनेक भांति करि साजी साजनहारै ॥

Maatee ek anek bhaanti kari saajee saajanahaarai ||

The clay is the same, but the Fashioner has fashioned it in various ways.

ਨਾ ਕਛੁ ਪੋਚ ਮਾਟੀ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਨਾ ਕਛੁ ਪੋਚ ਕੁੰਭਾਰੈ ॥੨॥

ना कछु पोच माटी के भांडे ना कछु पोच कु्मभारै ॥२॥

Naa kachhu poch maatee ke bhaande naa kachhu poch kumbbhaarai ||2||

There is nothing wrong with the pot of clay - there is nothing wrong with the Potter. ||2||


ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

सभ महि सचा एको सोई तिस का कीआ सभु कछु होई ॥

Sabh mahi sachaa eko soee tis kaa keeaa sabhu kachhu hoee ||

The One True Lord abides in all; by His making, everything is made.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੈ ਸੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਬੰਦਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥

हुकमु पछानै सु एको जानै बंदा कहीऐ सोई ॥३॥

Hukamu pachhaanai su eko jaanai banddaa kaheeai soee ||3||

Whoever realizes the Hukam of His Command, knows the One Lord. He alone is said to be the Lord's slave. ||3||


ਅਲਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਗੁੜੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਮੀਠਾ ॥

अलहु अलखु न जाई लखिआ गुरि गुड़ु दीना मीठा ॥

Alahu alakhu na jaaee lakhiaa guri gu(rr)u deenaa meethaa ||

The Lord Allah is Unseen; He cannot be seen. The Guru has blessed me with this sweet molasses.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੰਕਾ ਨਾਸੀ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੩॥

कहि कबीर मेरी संका नासी सरब निरंजनु डीठा ॥४॥३॥

Kahi kabeer meree sankkaa naasee sarab niranjjanu deethaa ||4||3||

Says Kabeer, my anxiety and fear have been taken away; I see the Immaculate Lord pervading everywhere. ||4||3||

ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਕਹਹੁ ਮਤ ਝੂਠੇ ਝੂਠਾ ਜੋ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥

बेद कतेब कहहु मत झूठे झूठा जो न बिचारै ॥

Bed kateb kahahu mat jhoothe jhoothaa jo na bichaarai ||

Do not say that the Vedas, the Bible and the Koran are false. Those who do not contemplate them are false.

ਜਉ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਕਹਤ ਹਉ ਤਉ ਕਿਉ ਮੁਰਗੀ ਮਾਰੈ ॥੧॥

जउ सभ महि एकु खुदाइ कहत हउ तउ किउ मुरगी मारै ॥१॥

Jau sabh mahi eku khudaai kahat hau tau kiu muragee maarai ||1||

You say that the One Lord is in all, so why do you kill chickens? ||1||


ਮੁਲਾਂ ਕਹਹੁ ਨਿਆਉ ਖੁਦਾਈ ॥

मुलां कहहु निआउ खुदाई ॥

Mulaan kahahu niaau khudaaee ||

O Mullah, tell me: is this God's Justice?

ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तेरे मन का भरमु न जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tere man kaa bharamu na jaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

The doubts of your mind have not been dispelled. ||1|| Pause ||


ਪਕਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਨਿਆ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਾਟੀ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਮਿਲਿ ਕੀਆ ॥

पकरि जीउ आनिआ देह बिनासी माटी कउ बिसमिलि कीआ ॥

Pakari jeeu aaniaa deh binaasee maatee kau bisamili keeaa ||

You seize a living creature, and then bring it home and kill its body; you have killed only the clay.

ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਨਾਹਤ ਲਾਗੀ ਕਹੁ ਹਲਾਲੁ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਆ ॥੨॥

जोति सरूप अनाहत लागी कहु हलालु किआ कीआ ॥२॥

Joti saroop anaahat laagee kahu halaalu kiaa keeaa ||2||

The light of the soul passes into another form. So tell me, what have you killed? ||2||


ਕਿਆ ਉਜੂ ਪਾਕੁ ਕੀਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਧੋਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਮਸੀਤਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

किआ उजू पाकु कीआ मुहु धोइआ किआ मसीति सिरु लाइआ ॥

Kiaa ujoo paaku keeaa muhu dhoiaa kiaa maseeti siru laaiaa ||

And what good are your purifications? Why do you bother to wash your face? And why do you bother to bow your head in the mosque?

ਜਉ ਦਿਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

जउ दिल महि कपटु निवाज गुजारहु किआ हज काबै जाइआ ॥३॥

Jau dil mahi kapatu nivaaj gujaarahu kiaa haj kaabai jaaiaa ||3||

Your heart is full of hypocrisy; what good are your prayers or your pilgrimage to Mecca? ||3||


ਤੂੰ ਨਾਪਾਕੁ ਪਾਕੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝਿਆ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥

तूं नापाकु पाकु नही सूझिआ तिस का मरमु न जानिआ ॥

Toonn naapaaku paaku nahee soojhiaa tis kaa maramu na jaaniaa ||

You are impure; you do not understand the Pure Lord. You do not know His Mystery.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਭਿਸਤਿ ਤੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਦੋਜਕ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੪॥

कहि कबीर भिसति ते चूका दोजक सिउ मनु मानिआ ॥४॥४॥

Kahi kabeer bhisati te chookaa dojak siu manu maaniaa ||4||4||

Says Kabeer, you have missed out on paradise; your mind is set on hell. ||4||4||

ਸੁੰਨ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਤੇਰੀ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਵਾਕਰ ਅਧਪਤਿ ਆਦਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

सुंन संधिआ तेरी देव देवाकर अधपति आदि समाई ॥

Sunn sanddhiaa teree dev devaakar adhapati aadi samaaee ||

Hear my prayer, Lord; You are the Divine Light of the Divine, the Primal, All-pervading Master.

ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੧॥

सिध समाधि अंतु नही पाइआ लागि रहे सरनाई ॥१॥

Sidh samaadhi anttu nahee paaiaa laagi rahe saranaaee ||1||

The Siddhas in Samaadhi have not found Your limits. They hold tight to the Protection of Your Sanctuary. ||1||


ਲੇਹੁ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥

लेहु आरती हो पुरख निरंजन सतिगुर पूजहु भाई ॥

Lehu aaratee ho purakh niranjjan satigur poojahu bhaaee ||

Worship and adoration of the Pure, Primal Lord comes by worshipping the True Guru, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਠਾਢਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਨਿਗਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ठाढा ब्रहमा निगम बीचारै अलखु न लखिआ जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Thaadhaa brhamaa nigam beechaarai alakhu na lakhiaa jaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Standing at His Door, Brahma studies the Vedas, but he cannot see the Unseen Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਤਤੁ ਤੇਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤੀ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਦੇਹ ਉਜੵਾਰਾ ॥

ततु तेलु नामु कीआ बाती दीपकु देह उज्यारा ॥

Tatu telu naamu keeaa baatee deepaku deh ujyaaraa ||

With the oil of knowledge about the essence of reality, and the wick of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, this lamp illuminates my body.

ਜੋਤਿ ਲਾਇ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਜਗਾਇਆ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੂਝਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

जोति लाइ जगदीस जगाइआ बूझै बूझनहारा ॥२॥

Joti laai jagadees jagaaiaa boojhai boojhanahaaraa ||2||

I have applied the Light of the Lord of the Universe, and lit this lamp. God the Knower knows. ||2||


ਪੰਚੇ ਸਬਦ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਬਾਜੇ ਸੰਗੇ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਨੀ ॥

पंचे सबद अनाहद बाजे संगे सारिंगपानी ॥

Pancche sabad anaahad baaje sangge saaringgapaanee ||

The Unstruck Melody of the Panch Shabad, the Five Primal Sounds, vibrates and resounds. I dwell with the Lord of the World.

ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥੩॥੫॥

कबीर मेरी सिमरनी रसना ऊपरि रामु ॥

Kabeer meree simaranee rasanaa upari raamu ||

Kabeer my rosary is my tongue upon which the Lord's Name is strung.

ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਸਗਲ ਭਗਤ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥੧॥

आदि जुगादी सगल भगत ता को सुखु बिस्रामु ॥१॥

Aadi jugaadee sagal bhagat taa ko sukhu bisraamu ||1||

From the very beginning, and throughout the ages, all the devotees abide in tranquil peace. ||1||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਕਉ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਹਸਨੇਹਾਰੁ ॥

कबीर मेरी जाति कउ सभु को हसनेहारु ॥

Kabeer meree jaati kau sabhu ko hasanehaaru ||

Kabeer, everyone laughs at my social class.

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਇਸ ਜਾਤਿ ਕਉ ਜਿਹ ਜਪਿਓ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

बलिहारी इस जाति कउ जिह जपिओ सिरजनहारु ॥२॥

Balihaaree is jaati kau jih japio sirajanahaaru ||2||

I am a sacrifice to this social class, in which I chant and meditate on the Creator. ||2||


ਕਬੀਰ ਡਗਮਗ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਹਾ ਡੁਲਾਵਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

कबीर डगमग किआ करहि कहा डुलावहि जीउ ॥

Kabeer dagamag kiaa karahi kahaa dulaavahi jeeu ||

Kabeer, why do you stumble? Why does your soul waver?

ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਕੋ ਨਾਇਕੋ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਉ ॥੩॥

सरब सूख को नाइको राम नाम रसु पीउ ॥३॥

Sarab sookh ko naaiko raam naam rasu peeu ||3||

He is the Lord of all comforts and peace; drink in the Sublime Essence of the Lord's Name. ||3||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੇ ਕੁੰਡਲ ਬਨੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਲਾਲ ਜੜਾਉ ॥

कबीर कंचन के कुंडल बने ऊपरि लाल जड़ाउ ॥

Kabeer kancchan ke kunddal bane upari laal ja(rr)aau ||

Kabeer, earrings made of gold and studded with jewels,

ਦੀਸਹਿ ਦਾਧੇ ਕਾਨ ਜਿਉ ਜਿਨੑ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥

दीसहि दाधे कान जिउ जिन्ह मनि नाही नाउ ॥४॥

Deesahi daadhe kaan jiu jinh mani naahee naau ||4||

Look like burnt twigs, if the Name is not in the mind. ||4||


ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਏਕੁ ਆਧੁ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

कबीर ऐसा एकु आधु जो जीवत मिरतकु होइ ॥

Kabeer aisaa eku aadhu jo jeevat mirataku hoi ||

Kabeer, rare is such a person, who remains dead while yet alive.

ਨਿਰਭੈ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਨ ਰਵੈ ਜਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਤਤ ਸੋਇ ॥੫॥

निरभै होइ कै गुन रवै जत पेखउ तत सोइ ॥५॥

Nirabhai hoi kai gun ravai jat pekhau tat soi ||5||

Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, he is fearless. Wherever I look, the Lord is there. ||5||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾ ਦਿਨ ਹਉ ਮੂਆ ਪਾਛੈ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥

कबीर जा दिन हउ मूआ पाछै भइआ अनंदु ॥

Kabeer jaa din hau mooaa paachhai bhaiaa ananddu ||

Kabeer, on the day when I die, afterwards there shall be bliss.

ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਨਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਭਜਹਿ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦੁ ॥੬॥

मोहि मिलिओ प्रभु आपना संगी भजहि गोबिंदु ॥६॥

Mohi milio prbhu aapanaa sanggee bhajahi gaobinddu ||6||

I shall meet with my Lord God. Those with me shall meditate and vibrate on the Lord of the Universe. ||6||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਬੁਰੇ ਹਮ ਤਜਿ ਭਲੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर सभ ते हम बुरे हम तजि भलो सभु कोइ ॥

Kabeer sabh te ham bure ham taji bhalo sabhu koi ||

Kabeer, I am the worst of all. Everyone else is good.

ਜਿਨਿ ਐਸਾ ਕਰਿ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੭॥

जिनि ऐसा करि बूझिआ मीतु हमारा सोइ ॥७॥

Jini aisaa kari boojhiaa meetu hamaaraa soi ||7||

Whoever understands this is a friend of mine. ||7||


ਕਬੀਰ ਆਈ ਮੁਝਹਿ ਪਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਭੇਸ ॥

कबीर आई मुझहि पहि अनिक करे करि भेस ॥

Kabeer aaee mujhahi pahi anik kare kari bhes ||

Kabeer, she came to me in various forms and disguises.

ਹਮ ਰਾਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਨੇ ਉਨਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥੮॥

हम राखे गुर आपने उनि कीनो आदेसु ॥८॥

Ham raakhe gur aapane uni keeno aadesu ||8||

My Guru saved me, and now she bows humbly to me. ||8||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੋਈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਜਿਹ ਮੂਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

कबीर सोई मारीऐ जिह मूऐ सुखु होइ ॥

Kabeer soee maareeai jih mooai sukhu hoi ||

Kabeer, kill only that, which, when killed, shall bring peace.

ਭਲੋ ਭਲੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਬੁਰੋ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੯॥

भलो भलो सभु को कहै बुरो न मानै कोइ ॥९॥

Bhalo bhalo sabhu ko kahai buro na maanai koi ||9||

Everyone shall call you good, very good, and no one shall think you are bad. ||9||


ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਤੀ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਕਾਰੀਆ ਕਾਰੇ ਊਭੇ ਜੰਤ ॥

कबीर राती होवहि कारीआ कारे ऊभे जंत ॥

Kabeer raatee hovahi kaareeaa kaare ubhe jantt ||

Kabeer, the night is dark, and men go about doing their dark deeds.

ਲੈ ਫਾਹੇ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵਤੇ ਸਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੧੦॥

लै फाहे उठि धावते सि जानि मारे भगवंत ॥१०॥

Lai phaahe uthi dhaavate si jaani maare bhagavantt ||10||

They take the noose and run around; but rest assured that God shall destroy them. ||10||


ਕਬੀਰ ਚੰਦਨ ਕਾ ਬਿਰਵਾ ਭਲਾ ਬੇੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਓ ਢਾਕ ਪਲਾਸ ॥

कबीर चंदन का बिरवा भला बेड़्हिओ ढाक पलास ॥

Kabeer chanddan kaa biravaa bhalaa be(rr)hio dhaak palaas ||

Kabeer, the sandalwood tree is good, even though it is surrounded by weeds.

ਓਇ ਭੀ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਬਸੇ ਜੁ ਚੰਦਨ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧੧॥

ओइ भी चंदनु होइ रहे बसे जु चंदन पासि ॥११॥

Oi bhee chanddanu hoi rahe base ju chanddan paasi ||11||

Those who dwell near the sandalwood tree, become just like the sandalwood tree. ||11||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬਾਂਸੁ ਬਡਾਈ ਬੂਡਿਆ ਇਉ ਮਤ ਡੂਬਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर बांसु बडाई बूडिआ इउ मत डूबहु कोइ ॥

Kabeer baansu badaaee boodiaa iu mat doobahu koi ||

Kabeer, the bamboo is drowned in its egotistical pride. No one should drown like this.

ਚੰਦਨ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟੇ ਬਸੈ ਬਾਂਸੁ ਸੁਗੰਧੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੨॥

चंदन कै निकटे बसै बांसु सुगंधु न होइ ॥१२॥

Chanddan kai nikate basai baansu suganddhu na hoi ||12||

Bamboo also dwells near the sandalwood tree, but it does not take up its fragrance. ||12||


ਕਬੀਰ ਦੀਨੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਦੁਨੀ ਸਿਉ ਦੁਨੀ ਨ ਚਾਲੀ ਸਾਥਿ ॥

कबीर दीनु गवाइआ दुनी सिउ दुनी न चाली साथि ॥

Kabeer deenu gavaaiaa dunee siu dunee na chaalee saathi ||

Kabeer, the mortal loses his faith, for the sake of the world, but the world shall not go along with him in the end.

ਪਾਇ ਕੁਹਾੜਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਗਾਫਲਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥੧੩॥

पाइ कुहाड़ा मारिआ गाफलि अपुनै हाथि ॥१३॥

Paai kuhaa(rr)aa maariaa gaaphali apunai haathi ||13||

The idiot strikes his own foot with the axe by his own hand. ||13||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਹ ਜਹ ਹਉ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਕਉਤਕ ਠਾਓ ਠਾਇ ॥

कबीर जह जह हउ फिरिओ कउतक ठाओ ठाइ ॥

Kabeer jah jah hau phirio kautak thaao thaai ||

Kabeer, wherever I go, I see wonders everywhere.

ਇਕ ਰਾਮ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਊਜਰੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਭਾਂਇ ॥੧੪॥

इक राम सनेही बाहरा ऊजरु मेरै भांइ ॥१४॥

Ik raam sanehee baaharaa ujaru merai bhaani ||14||

But without the devotees of the One Lord, it is all wilderness to me. ||14||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਝੁੰਗੀਆ ਭਲੀ ਭਠਿ ਕੁਸਤੀ ਗਾਉ ॥

कबीर संतन की झुंगीआ भली भठि कुसती गाउ ॥

Kabeer santtan kee jhunggeeaa bhalee bhathi kusatee gaau ||

Kabeer, the dwelling of the Saints is good; the dwelling of the unrighteous burns like an oven.

ਆਗਿ ਲਗਉ ਤਿਹ ਧਉਲਹਰ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥੧੫॥

आगि लगउ तिह धउलहर जिह नाही हरि को नाउ ॥१५॥

Aagi lagau tih dhaulahar jih naahee hari ko naau ||15||

Those mansions in which the Lord's Name is not chanted might just as well burn down. ||15||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਤ ਮੂਏ ਕਿਆ ਰੋਈਐ ਜੋ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर संत मूए किआ रोईऐ जो अपुने ग्रिहि जाइ ॥

Kabeer santt mooe kiaa roeeai jo apune grihi jaai ||

Kabeer, why cry at the death of a Saint? He is just going back to his home.

ਰੋਵਹੁ ਸਾਕਤ ਬਾਪੁਰੇ ਜੁ ਹਾਟੈ ਹਾਟ ਬਿਕਾਇ ॥੧੬॥

रोवहु साकत बापुरे जु हाटै हाट बिकाइ ॥१६॥

Rovahu saakat baapure ju haatai haat bikaai ||16||

Cry for the wretched, faithless cynic, who is sold from store to store. ||16||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਜੈਸੀ ਲਸਨ ਕੀ ਖਾਨਿ ॥

कबीर साकतु ऐसा है जैसी लसन की खानि ॥

Kabeer saakatu aisaa hai jaisee lasan kee khaani ||

Kabeer, the faithless cynic is like a piece of garlic.

ਕੋਨੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਖਾਈਐ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੧੭॥

कोने बैठे खाईऐ परगट होइ निदानि ॥१७॥

Kone baithe khaaeeai paragat hoi nidaani ||17||

Even if you eat it sitting in a corner, it becomes obvious to everyone. ||17||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਡੋਲਨੀ ਪਵਨੁ ਝਕੋਲਨਹਾਰੁ ॥

कबीर माइआ डोलनी पवनु झकोलनहारु ॥

Kabeer maaiaa dolanee pavanu jhakolanahaaru ||

Kabeer, Maya is the butter-churn, and the breath is the churning-stick.

ਸੰਤਹੁ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਖਾਇਆ ਛਾਛਿ ਪੀਐ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੧੮॥

संतहु माखनु खाइआ छाछि पीऐ संसारु ॥१८॥

Santtahu maakhanu khaaiaa chhaachhi peeai sanssaaru ||18||

The Saints eat the butter, while the world drinks the whey. ||18||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਡੋਲਨੀ ਪਵਨੁ ਵਹੈ ਹਿਵ ਧਾਰ ॥

कबीर माइआ डोलनी पवनु वहै हिव धार ॥

Kabeer maaiaa dolanee pavanu vahai hiv dhaar ||

Kabeer, Maya is the butter-churn; the breath flows like ice water.

ਜਿਨਿ ਬਿਲੋਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਖਾਇਆ ਅਵਰ ਬਿਲੋਵਨਹਾਰ ॥੧੯॥

जिनि बिलोइआ तिनि खाइआ अवर बिलोवनहार ॥१९॥

Jini biloiaa tini khaaiaa avar bilovanahaar ||19||

Whoever does the churning eats the butter; the others are just churning-sticks. ||19||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਚੋਰਟੀ ਮੁਸਿ ਮੁਸਿ ਲਾਵੈ ਹਾਟਿ ॥

कबीर माइआ चोरटी मुसि मुसि लावै हाटि ॥

Kabeer maaiaa choratee musi musi laavai haati ||

Kabeer, Maya is the thief, which breaks in and plunders the store.

ਏਕੁ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਨਾ ਮੁਸੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਬਾਰਹ ਬਾਟ ॥੨੦॥

एकु कबीरा ना मुसै जिनि कीनी बारह बाट ॥२०॥

Eku kabeeraa naa musai jini keenee baarah baat ||20||

Only Kabeer is not plundered; he has cut her into twelve pieces. ||20||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸੂਖੁ ਨ ਏਂਹ ਜੁਗਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੁ ਬਹੁਤੈ ਮੀਤ ॥

कबीर सूखु न एंह जुगि करहि जु बहुतै मीत ॥

Kabeer sookhu na enh jugi karahi ju bahutai meet ||

Kabeer, peace does not come in this world by making lots of friends.

ਜੋ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਨੀਤ ॥੨੧॥

जो चितु राखहि एक सिउ ते सुखु पावहि नीत ॥२१॥

Jo chitu raakhahi ek siu te sukhu paavahi neet ||21||

Those who keep their consciousness focused on the One Lord shall find eternal peace. ||21||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਰਨੇ ਤੇ ਜਗੁ ਡਰੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ॥

कबीर जिसु मरने ते जगु डरै मेरे मनि आनंदु ॥

Kabeer jisu marane te jagu darai mere mani aananddu ||

Kabeer, the world is afraid of death - that death fills my mind with bliss.

ਮਰਨੇ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥੨੨॥

मरने ही ते पाईऐ पूरनु परमानंदु ॥२२॥

Marane hee te paaeeai pooranu paramaananddu ||22||

It is only by death that perfect, supreme bliss is obtained. ||22||


ਰਾਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਗਾਂਠਿ ਨ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ੍ਹ ॥

राम पदारथु पाइ कै कबीरा गांठि न खोल्ह ॥

Raam padaarathu paai kai kabeeraa gaanthi na kholh ||

The Treasure of the Lord is obtained, O Kabeer, but do not undo its knot.

ਨਹੀ ਪਟਣੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੋਲੁ ॥੨੩॥

नही पटणु नही पारखू नही गाहकु नही मोलु ॥२३॥

Nahee pata(nn)u nahee paarakhoo nahee gaahaku nahee molu ||23||

There is no market to sell it, no appraiser, no customer, and no price. ||23||


ਕਬੀਰ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਰਾਮੁ ॥

कबीर ता सिउ प्रीति करि जा को ठाकुरु रामु ॥

Kabeer taa siu preeti kari jaa ko thaakuru raamu ||

Kabeer, be in love with only that one, whose Master is the Lord.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਰਾਜੇ ਭੂਪਤੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਕਉਨੇ ਕਾਮ ॥੨੪॥

पंडित राजे भूपती आवहि कउने काम ॥२४॥

Panddit raaje bhoopatee aavahi kaune kaam ||24||

The Pandits, the religious scholars, kings and landlords - what good is love for them? ||24||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਇਕ ਸਿਉ ਕੀਏ ਆਨ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर प्रीति इक सिउ कीए आन दुबिधा जाइ ॥

Kabeer preeti ik siu keee aan dubidhaa jaai ||

Kabeer, when you are in love with the One Lord, duality and alienation depart.

ਭਾਵੈ ਲਾਂਬੇ ਕੇਸ ਕਰੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਘਰਰਿ ਮੁਡਾਇ ॥੨੫॥

भावै लांबे केस करु भावै घररि मुडाइ ॥२५॥

Bhaavai laambe kes karu bhaavai gharari mudaai ||25||

You may have long hair, or you may shave your head bald. ||25||


ਕਬੀਰ ਜਗੁ ਕਾਜਲ ਕੀ ਕੋਠਰੀ ਅੰਧ ਪਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

कबीर जगु काजल की कोठरी अंध परे तिस माहि ॥

Kabeer jagu kaajal kee kotharee anddh pare tis maahi ||

Kabeer, the world is a room filled with black soot; the blind fall into its trap.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੈਸਿ ਜੁ ਨੀਕਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨੬॥

हउ बलिहारी तिन कउ पैसि जु नीकसि जाहि ॥२६॥

Hau balihaaree tin kau paisi ju neekasi jaahi ||26||

I am a sacrifice to those who are thrown in, and still escape. ||26||


ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਸਕਹੁ ਤ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਹੋਰਿ ॥

कबीर इहु तनु जाइगा सकहु त लेहु बहोरि ॥

Kabeer ihu tanu jaaigaa sakahu ta lehu bahori ||

Kabeer, this body shall perish; save it, if you can.

ਨਾਂਗੇ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਤੇ ਗਏ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰਿ ॥੨੭॥

नांगे पावहु ते गए जिन के लाख करोरि ॥२७॥

Naange paavahu te gae jin ke laakh karori ||27||

Even those who have tens of thousands and millions, must depart bare-footed in the end. ||27||


ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਕਵਨੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਲਾਇ ॥

कबीर इहु तनु जाइगा कवनै मारगि लाइ ॥

Kabeer ihu tanu jaaigaa kavanai maaragi laai ||

Kabeer, this body shall perish; place it on the path.

ਕੈ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੨੮॥

कै संगति करि साध की कै हरि के गुन गाइ ॥२८॥

Kai sanggati kari saadh kee kai hari ke gun gaai ||28||

Either join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, or sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||28||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਰਤਾ ਮਰਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਮੂਆ ਮਰਿ ਭੀ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर मरता मरता जगु मूआ मरि भी न जानिआ कोइ ॥

Kabeer marataa marataa jagu mooaa mari bhee na jaaniaa koi ||

Kabeer, dying, dying, the whole world has to die, and yet, none know how to die.

ਐਸੇ ਮਰਨੇ ਜੋ ਮਰੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਮਰਨਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨੯॥

ऐसे मरने जो मरै बहुरि न मरना होइ ॥२९॥

Aise marane jo marai bahuri na maranaa hoi ||29||

Let those who die, die such a death, that they shall never have to die again. ||29||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਬਾਰੈ ਬਾਰ ॥

कबीर मानस जनमु दुल्मभु है होइ न बारै बार ॥

Kabeer maanas janamu dulambbhu hai hoi na baarai baar ||

Kabeer, it is so difficult to obtain this human body; it does not just come over and over again.

ਜਿਉ ਬਨ ਫਲ ਪਾਕੇ ਭੁਇ ਗਿਰਹਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਡਾਰ ॥੩੦॥

जिउ बन फल पाके भुइ गिरहि बहुरि न लागहि डार ॥३०॥

Jiu ban phal paake bhui girahi bahuri na laagahi daar ||30||

It is like the ripe fruit on the tree; when it falls to the ground, it cannot be re-attached to the branch. ||30||


ਕਬੀਰਾ ਤੁਹੀ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਤੂ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਉ ਕਬੀਰੁ ॥

कबीरा तुही कबीरु तू तेरो नाउ कबीरु ॥

Kabeeraa tuhee kabeeru too tero naau kabeeru ||

Kabeer, you are Kabeer; your name means great.

ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਤਬ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਉ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਤਜਹਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੩੧॥

राम रतनु तब पाईऐ जउ पहिले तजहि सरीरु ॥३१॥

Raam ratanu tab paaeeai jau pahile tajahi sareeru ||31||

O Lord, You are Kabeer. The Jewel of the Lord is obtained, when the mortal first gives up his body. ||31||


ਕਬੀਰ ਝੰਖੁ ਨ ਝੰਖੀਐ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

कबीर झंखु न झंखीऐ तुमरो कहिओ न होइ ॥

Kabeer jhankkhu na jhankkheeai tumaro kahio na hoi ||

Kabeer, do not struggle in stubborn pride; nothing happens just because you say so.

ਕਰਮ ਕਰੀਮ ਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੨॥

करम करीम जु करि रहे मेटि न साकै कोइ ॥३२॥

Karam kareem ju kari rahe meti na saakai koi ||32||

No one can erase the actions of the Merciful Lord. ||32||


ਕਬੀਰ ਕਸਉਟੀ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਝੂਠਾ ਟਿਕੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर कसउटी राम की झूठा टिकै न कोइ ॥

Kabeer kasautee raam kee jhoothaa tikai na koi ||

Kabeer, no one who is false can withstand the Touchstone of the Lord.

ਰਾਮ ਕਸਉਟੀ ਸੋ ਸਹੈ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੩੩॥

राम कसउटी सो सहै जो मरि जीवा होइ ॥३३॥

Raam kasautee so sahai jo mari jeevaa hoi ||33||

He alone can pass the test of the Lord's Touchstone, who remains dead while yet alive. ||33||


ਕਬੀਰ ਊਜਲ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਕਾਪਰੇ ਪਾਨ ਸੁਪਾਰੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

कबीर ऊजल पहिरहि कापरे पान सुपारी खाहि ॥

Kabeer ujal pahirahi kaapare paan supaaree khaahi ||

Kabeer, some wear gaudy robes, and chew betel leaves and betel nuts.

ਏਕਸ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਧੇ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੩੪॥

एकस हरि के नाम बिनु बाधे जम पुरि जांहि ॥३४॥

Ekas hari ke naam binu baadhe jam puri jaanhi ||34||

Without the Name of the One Lord, they are bound and gagged and taken to the City of Death. ||34||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬੇੜਾ ਜਰਜਰਾ ਫੂਟੇ ਛੇਂਕ ਹਜਾਰ ॥

कबीर बेड़ा जरजरा फूटे छेंक हजार ॥

Kabeer be(rr)aa jarajaraa phoote chhenk hajaar ||

Kabeer, the boat is old, and it has thousands of holes.

ਹਰੂਏ ਹਰੂਏ ਤਿਰਿ ਗਏ ਡੂਬੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਰ ॥੩੫॥

हरूए हरूए तिरि गए डूबे जिन सिर भार ॥३५॥

Harooe harooe tiri gae doobe jin sir bhaar ||35||

Those who are light get across, while those who carry the weight of their sins on their heads are drowned. ||35||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਾਡ ਜਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਲਾਕਰੀ ਕੇਸ ਜਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਘਾਸੁ ॥

कबीर हाड जरे जिउ लाकरी केस जरे जिउ घासु ॥

Kabeer haad jare jiu laakaree kes jare jiu ghaasu ||

Kabeer, the bones burn like wood, and the hair burns like straw.

ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਰਤਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਇਓ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥੩੬॥

इहु जगु जरता देखि कै भइओ कबीरु उदासु ॥३६॥

Ihu jagu jarataa dekhi kai bhaio kabeeru udaasu ||36||

Seeing the world burning like this, Kabeer has become sad. ||36||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਚਾਮ ਲਪੇਟੇ ਹਾਡ ॥

कबीर गरबु न कीजीऐ चाम लपेटे हाड ॥

Kabeer garabu na keejeeai chaam lapete haad ||

Kabeer, do not be so proud of your bones wrapped up in skin.

ਹੈਵਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਤਰ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਧਰਨੀ ਗਾਡ ॥੩੭॥

हैवर ऊपरि छत्र तर ते फुनि धरनी गाड ॥३७॥

Haivar upari chhatr tar te phuni dharanee gaad ||37||

Those who were on their horses and under their canopies, were eventually buried under the ground. ||37||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਊਚਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਅਵਾਸੁ ॥

कबीर गरबु न कीजीऐ ऊचा देखि अवासु ॥

Kabeer garabu na keejeeai uchaa dekhi avaasu ||

Kabeer, do not be so proud of your tall mansions.

ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਭੁਇ ਲੇਟਣਾ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਾਮੈ ਘਾਸੁ ॥੩੮॥

आजु काल्हि भुइ लेटणा ऊपरि जामै घासु ॥३८॥

Aaju kaalhi bhui leta(nn)aa upari jaamai ghaasu ||38||

Today or tomorrow, you shall lie beneath the ground, and the grass shall grow above you. ||38||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਰੰਕੁ ਨ ਹਸੀਐ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर गरबु न कीजीऐ रंकु न हसीऐ कोइ ॥

Kabeer garabu na keejeeai rankku na haseeai koi ||

Kabeer, do not be so proud, and do not laugh at the poor.

ਅਜਹੁ ਸੁ ਨਾਉ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੩੯॥

अजहु सु नाउ समुंद्र महि किआ जानउ किआ होइ ॥३९॥

Ajahu su naau samunddr mahi kiaa jaanau kiaa hoi ||39||

Your boat is still out at sea; who knows what will happen? ||39||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੀਐ ਦੇਹੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਰੰਗ ॥

कबीर गरबु न कीजीऐ देही देखि सुरंग ॥

Kabeer garabu na keejeeai dehee dekhi surangg ||

Kabeer, do not be so proud, looking at your beautiful body.

ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਹੁਗੇ ਜਿਉ ਕਾਂਚੁਰੀ ਭੁਯੰਗ ॥੪੦॥

आजु काल्हि तजि जाहुगे जिउ कांचुरी भुयंग ॥४०॥

Aaju kaalhi taji jaahuge jiu kaanchuree bhuyangg ||40||

Today or tomorrow, you will have to leave it behind, like the snake shedding its skin. ||40||


ਕਬੀਰ ਲੂਟਨਾ ਹੈ ਤ ਲੂਟਿ ਲੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ਲੂਟਿ ॥

कबीर लूटना है त लूटि लै राम नाम है लूटि ॥

Kabeer lootanaa hai ta looti lai raam naam hai looti ||

Kabeer, if you must rob and plunder, then plunder the plunder of the Lord's Name.

ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਹੁਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਜਾਹਿੰਗੇ ਛੂਟਿ ॥੪੧॥

फिरि पाछै पछुताहुगे प्रान जाहिंगे छूटि ॥४१॥

Phiri paachhai pachhutaahuge praan jaahingge chhooti ||41||

Otherwise, in the world hereafter, you will regret and repent, when the breath of life leaves the body. ||41||


ਕਬੀਰ ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਜਨਮਿਓ ਅਪਨੈ ਘਰਿ ਲਾਵੈ ਆਗਿ ॥

कबीर ऐसा कोई न जनमिओ अपनै घरि लावै आगि ॥

Kabeer aisaa koee na janamio apanai ghari laavai aagi ||

Kabeer, there is no one born, who burns his own home,

ਪਾਂਚਉ ਲਰਿਕਾ ਜਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਰਹੈ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੪੨॥

पांचउ लरिका जारि कै रहै राम लिव लागि ॥४२॥

Paanchau larikaa jaari kai rahai raam liv laagi ||42||

And burning his five sons, remains lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||42||


ਕੋ ਹੈ ਲਰਿਕਾ ਬੇਚਈ ਲਰਿਕੀ ਬੇਚੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

को है लरिका बेचई लरिकी बेचै कोइ ॥

Ko hai larikaa bechaee larikee bechai koi ||

Kabeer, how rare are those who sell their son and sell their daughter

ਸਾਝਾ ਕਰੈ ਕਬੀਰ ਸਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਨਜੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੪੩॥

साझा करै कबीर सिउ हरि संगि बनजु करेइ ॥४३॥

Saajhaa karai kabeer siu hari sanggi banaju karei ||43||

And, entering into partnership with Kabeer, deal with the Lord. ||43||


ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਮਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

कबीर इह चेतावनी मत सहसा रहि जाइ ॥

Kabeer ih chetaavanee mat sahasaa rahi jaai ||

Kabeer, let me remind you of this. Do not be skeptical or cynical.

ਪਾਛੈ ਭੋਗ ਜੁ ਭੋਗਵੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਗੁੜੁ ਲੈ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੪੪॥

पाछै भोग जु भोगवे तिन को गुड़ु लै खाहि ॥४४॥

Paachhai bhog ju bhogave tin ko gu(rr)u lai khaahi ||44||

Those pleasures which you enjoyed so much in the past - now you must eat their fruits. ||44||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਪੜਿਬੋ ਭਲੋ ਪੜਿਬੇ ਸਿਉ ਭਲ ਜੋਗੁ ॥

कबीर मै जानिओ पड़िबो भलो पड़िबे सिउ भल जोगु ॥

Kabeer mai jaanio pa(rr)ibo bhalo pa(rr)ibe siu bhal jogu ||

Kabeer, at first, I thought learning was good; then I thought Yoga was better.

ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਛਾਡਉ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਿੰਦਉ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੪੫॥

भगति न छाडउ राम की भावै निंदउ लोगु ॥४५॥

Bhagati na chhaadau raam kee bhaavai ninddau logu ||45||

I shall never abandon devotional worship of the Lord, even though people may slander me. ||45||


ਕਬੀਰ ਲੋਗੁ ਕਿ ਨਿੰਦੈ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਜਿਹ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥

कबीर लोगु कि निंदै बपुड़ा जिह मनि नाही गिआनु ॥

Kabeer logu ki ninddai bapu(rr)aa jih mani naahee giaanu ||

Kabeer, how can the wretched people slander me? They have no wisdom or intelligence.

ਰਾਮ ਕਬੀਰਾ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਵਰ ਤਜੇ ਸਭ ਕਾਮ ॥੪੬॥

राम कबीरा रवि रहे अवर तजे सभ काम ॥४६॥

Raam kabeeraa ravi rahe avar taje sabh kaam ||46||

Kabeer continues to dwell upon the Lord's Name; I have abandoned all other affairs. ||46||


ਕਬੀਰ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਕੈ ਘਾਘਰੈ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਗਿ ॥

कबीर परदेसी कै घाघरै चहु दिसि लागी आगि ॥

Kabeer paradesee kai ghaagharai chahu disi laagee aagi ||

Kabeer, the robe of the stranger-soul has caught fire on all four sides.

ਖਿੰਥਾ ਜਲਿ ਕੋਇਲਾ ਭਈ ਤਾਗੇ ਆਂਚ ਨ ਲਾਗ ॥੪੭॥

खिंथा जलि कोइला भई तागे आंच न लाग ॥४७॥

Khintthaa jali koilaa bhaee taage aanch na laag ||47||

The cloth of the body has been burnt and reduced to charcoal, but the fire did not touch the thread of the soul. ||47||


ਕਬੀਰ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਜਲਿ ਕੋਇਲਾ ਭਈ ਖਾਪਰੁ ਫੂਟ ਮਫੂਟ ॥

कबीर खिंथा जलि कोइला भई खापरु फूट मफूट ॥

Kabeer khintthaa jali koilaa bhaee khaaparu phoot maphoot ||

Kabeer, the cloth has been burnt and reduced to charcoal, and the begging bowl is shattered into pieces.

ਜੋਗੀ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਖੇਲਿਓ ਆਸਨਿ ਰਹੀ ਬਿਭੂਤਿ ॥੪੮॥

जोगी बपुड़ा खेलिओ आसनि रही बिभूति ॥४८॥

Jogee bapu(rr)aa khelio aasani rahee bibhooti ||48||

The poor Yogi has played out his game; only ashes remain on his seat. ||48||


ਕਬੀਰ ਥੋਰੈ ਜਲਿ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਝੀਵਰਿ ਮੇਲਿਓ ਜਾਲੁ ॥

कबीर थोरै जलि माछुली झीवरि मेलिओ जालु ॥

Kabeer thorai jali maachhulee jheevari melio jaalu ||

Kabeer, the fish is in the shallow water; the fisherman has cast his net.

ਇਹ ਟੋਘਨੈ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥੪੯॥

इह टोघनै न छूटसहि फिरि करि समुंदु सम्हालि ॥४९॥

Ih toghanai na chhootasahi phiri kari samunddu samhaali ||49||

You shall not escape this little pool; think about returning to the ocean. ||49||


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਨ ਛੋਡੀਐ ਜਉ ਅਤਿ ਖਾਰੋ ਹੋਇ ॥

कबीर समुंदु न छोडीऐ जउ अति खारो होइ ॥

Kabeer samunddu na chhodeeai jau ati khaaro hoi ||

Kabeer, do not leave the ocean, even if it is very salty.

ਪੋਖਰਿ ਪੋਖਰਿ ਢੂਢਤੇ ਭਲੋ ਨ ਕਹਿਹੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੫੦॥

पोखरि पोखरि ढूढते भलो न कहिहै कोइ ॥५०॥

Pokhari pokhari dhoodhate bhalo na kahihai koi ||50||

If you poke around searching from puddle to puddle, no one will call you smart. ||50||


ਕਬੀਰ ਨਿਗੁਸਾਂਏਂ ਬਹਿ ਗਏ ਥਾਂਘੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

कबीर निगुसांएं बहि गए थांघी नाही कोइ ॥

Kabeer nigusaanen bahi gae thaanghee naahee koi ||

Kabeer, those who have no guru are washed away. No one can help them.

ਦੀਨ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਆਪੁਨੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫੧॥

दीन गरीबी आपुनी करते होइ सु होइ ॥५१॥

Deen gareebee aapunee karate hoi su hoi ||51||

Be meek and humble; whatever happens is what the Creator Lord does. ||51||


ਕਬੀਰ ਬੈਸਨਉ ਕੀ ਕੂਕਰਿ ਭਲੀ ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥

कबीर बैसनउ की कूकरि भली साकत की बुरी माइ ॥

Kabeer baisanau kee kookari bhalee saakat kee buree maai ||

Kabeer, even the dog of a devotee is good, while the mother of the faithless cynic is bad.

ਓਹ ਨਿਤ ਸੁਨੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਉਹ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਸਾਹਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੫੨॥

ओह नित सुनै हरि नाम जसु उह पाप बिसाहन जाइ ॥५२॥

Oh nit sunai hari naam jasu uh paap bisaahan jaai ||52||

The dog hears the Praises of the Lord's Name, while the other is engaged in sin. ||52||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਨਾ ਦੂਬਲਾ ਇਹੁ ਹਰੀਆਰਾ ਤਾਲੁ ॥

कबीर हरना दूबला इहु हरीआरा तालु ॥

Kabeer haranaa doobalaa ihu hareeaaraa taalu ||

Kabeer, the deer is weak, and the pool is lush with green vegetation.

ਲਾਖ ਅਹੇਰੀ ਏਕੁ ਜੀਉ ਕੇਤਾ ਬੰਚਉ ਕਾਲੁ ॥੫੩॥

लाख अहेरी एकु जीउ केता बंचउ कालु ॥५३॥

Laakh aheree eku jeeu ketaa bancchau kaalu ||53||

Thousands of hunters are chasing after the soul; how long can it escape death? ||53||


ਕਬੀਰ ਗੰਗਾ ਤੀਰ ਜੁ ਘਰੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੀਵਹਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨੀਰੁ ॥

कबीर गंगा तीर जु घरु करहि पीवहि निरमल नीरु ॥

Kabeer ganggaa teer ju gharu karahi peevahi niramal neeru ||

Kabeer, some make their homes on the banks of the Ganges, and drink pure water.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਇਉ ਕਹਿ ਰਮੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੫੪॥

बिनु हरि भगति न मुकति होइ इउ कहि रमे कबीर ॥५४॥

Binu hari bhagati na mukati hoi iu kahi rame kabeer ||54||

Without devotional worship of the Lord, they are not liberated. Kabeer proclaims this. ||54||


ਕਬੀਰ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਜੈਸਾ ਗੰਗਾ ਨੀਰੁ ॥

कबीर मनु निरमलु भइआ जैसा गंगा नीरु ॥

Kabeer manu niramalu bhaiaa jaisaa ganggaa neeru ||

Kabeer, my mind has become immaculate, like the waters of the Ganges.

ਪਾਛੈ ਲਾਗੋ ਹਰਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੫੫॥

पाछै लागो हरि फिरै कहत कबीर कबीर ॥५५॥

Paachhai laago hari phirai kahat kabeer kabeer ||55||

The Lord follows after me, calling, ""Kabeer! Kabeer!"" ||55||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਦੀ ਪੀਅਰੀ ਚੂੰਨਾਂ ਊਜਲ ਭਾਇ ॥

कबीर हरदी पीअरी चूंनां ऊजल भाइ ॥

Kabeer haradee peearee choonnaan ujal bhaai ||

Kabeer, turmeric is yelow, and lime is white.

ਰਾਮ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਤਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਦੋਨਉ ਬਰਨ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੫੬॥

राम सनेही तउ मिलै दोनउ बरन गवाइ ॥५६॥

Raam sanehee tau milai donau baran gavaai ||56||

You shall meet the Beloved Lord, only when both colors are lost. ||56||


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਦੀ ਪੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਰੈ ਚੂਨ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਇ ॥

कबीर हरदी पीरतनु हरै चून चिहनु न रहाइ ॥

Kabeer haradee peeratanu harai choon chihanu na rahaai ||

Kabeer, turmeric has lost its yellow color, and no trace of lime's whiteness remains.
