ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤਪੁਰਖਾ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

हरि के जन सतिगुर सतपुरखा बिनउ करउ गुर पासि ॥

Hari ke jan satigur satapurakhaa binau karau gur paasi ||

O humble servant of the Lord, O True Guru, O True Primal Being: I offer my humble prayer to You, O Guru.

ਹਮ ਕੀਰੇ ਕਿਰਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੧॥

हम कीरे किरम सतिगुर सरणाई करि दइआ नामु परगासि ॥१॥

Ham keere kiram satigur sara(nn)aaee kari daiaa naamu paragaasi ||1||

I am a mere insect, a worm. O True Guru, I seek Your Sanctuary. Please be merciful, and bless me with the Light of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||


ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥

मेरे मीत गुरदेव मो कउ राम नामु परगासि ॥

Mere meet guradev mo kau raam naamu paragaasi ||

O my Best Friend, O Divine Guru, please enlighten me with the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸਖਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਹਮਰੀ ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमति नामु मेरा प्रान सखाई हरि कीरति हमरी रहरासि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramati naamu meraa praan sakhaaee hari keerati hamaree raharaasi ||1|| rahaau ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Naam is my breath of life. The Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is my life's occupation. ||1|| Pause ||


ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਵਡੇਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਸ ॥

हरि जन के वड भाग वडेरे जिन हरि हरि सरधा हरि पिआस ॥

Hari jan ke vad bhaag vadere jin hari hari saradhaa hari piaas ||

The servants of the Lord have the greatest good fortune; they have faith in the Lord, and a longing for the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

हरि हरि नामु मिलै त्रिपतासहि मिलि संगति गुण परगासि ॥२॥

Hari hari naamu milai tripataasahi mili sanggati gu(nn) paragaasi ||2||

Obtaining the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, they are satisfied; joining the Sangat, the Blessed Congregation, their virtues shine forth. ||2||


ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਜਮ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

जिन हरि हरि हरि रसु नामु न पाइआ ते भागहीण जम पासि ॥

Jin hari hari hari rasu naamu na paaiaa te bhaagahee(nn) jam paasi ||

Those who have not obtained the Sublime Essence of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, are most unfortunate; they are led away by the Messenger of Death.

ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਏ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵੇ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸਿ ॥੩॥

जो सतिगुर सरणि संगति नही आए ध्रिगु जीवे ध्रिगु जीवासि ॥३॥

Jo satigur sara(nn)i sanggati nahee aae dhrigu jeeve dhrigu jeevaasi ||3||

Those who have not sought the Sanctuary of the True Guru and the Sangat, the Holy Congregation-cursed are their lives, and cursed are their hopes of life. ||3||


ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲਿਖਾਸਿ ॥

जिन हरि जन सतिगुर संगति पाई तिन धुरि मसतकि लिखिआ लिखासि ॥

Jin hari jan satigur sanggati paaee tin dhuri masataki likhiaa likhaasi ||

Those humble servants of the Lord who have attained the Company of the True Guru, have such pre-ordained destiny inscribed on their foreheads.

ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪॥

धनु धंनु सतसंगति जितु हरि रसु पाइआ मिलि जन नानक नामु परगासि ॥४॥४॥

Dhanu dhannu satasanggati jitu hari rasu paaiaa mili jan naanak naamu paragaasi ||4||4||

Blessed, blessed is the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, where the Lord's Essence is obtained. Meeting with His humble servant, O Nanak, the Light of the Naam shines forth. ||4||4||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

सो पुरखु निरंजनु हरि पुरखु निरंजनु हरि अगमा अगम अपारा ॥

So purakhu niranjjanu hari purakhu niranjjanu hari agamaa agam apaaraa ||

That Primal Being is Immaculate and Pure. The Lord, the Primal Being, is Immaculate and Pure. The Lord is Inaccessible, Unreachable and Unrivalled.

ਸਭਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

सभि धिआवहि सभि धिआवहि तुधु जी हरि सचे सिरजणहारा ॥

Sabhi dhiaavahi sabhi dhiaavahi tudhu jee hari sache siraja(nn)ahaaraa ||

All meditate, all meditate on You, Dear Lord, O True Creator Lord.

ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਜੀ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥

सभि जीअ तुमारे जी तूं जीआ का दातारा ॥

Sabhi jeea tumaare jee toonn jeeaa kaa daataaraa ||

All living beings are Yours-You are the Giver of all souls.

ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜੀ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

हरि धिआवहु संतहु जी सभि दूख विसारणहारा ॥

Hari dhiaavahu santtahu jee sabhi dookh visaara(nn)ahaaraa ||

Meditate on the Lord, O Saints; He is the Dispeller of all sorrow.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੀ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

हरि आपे ठाकुरु हरि आपे सेवकु जी किआ नानक जंत विचारा ॥१॥

Hari aape thaakuru hari aape sevaku jee kiaa naanak jantt vichaaraa ||1||

The Lord Himself is the Master, the Lord Himself is the Servant. O Nanak, the poor beings are wretched and miserable! ||1||


ਤੂੰ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥

तूं घट घट अंतरि सरब निरंतरि जी हरि एको पुरखु समाणा ॥

Toonn ghat ghat anttari sarab niranttari jee hari eko purakhu samaa(nn)aa ||

You are constant in each and every heart, and in all things. O Dear Lord, you are the One.

ਇਕਿ ਦਾਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਜੀ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣਾ ॥

इकि दाते इकि भेखारी जी सभि तेरे चोज विडाणा ॥

Iki daate iki bhekhaaree jee sabhi tere choj vidaa(nn)aa ||

Some are givers, and some are beggars. This is all Your Wondrous Play.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਜੀ ਹਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ॥

तूं आपे दाता आपे भुगता जी हउ तुधु बिनु अवरु न जाणा ॥

Toonn aape daataa aape bhugataa jee hau tudhu binu avaru na jaa(nn)aa ||

You Yourself are the Giver, and You Yourself are the Enjoyer. I know no other than You.

ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਜੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥

तूं पारब्रहमु बेअंतु बेअंतु जी तेरे किआ गुण आखि वखाणा ॥

Toonn paarabrhamu beanttu beanttu jee tere kiaa gu(nn) aakhi vakhaa(nn)aa ||

You are the Supreme Lord God, Limitless and Infinite. What Virtues of Yours can I speak of and describe?

ਜੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ॥੨॥

जो सेवहि जो सेवहि तुधु जी जनु नानकु तिन कुरबाणा ॥२॥

Jo sevahi jo sevahi tudhu jee janu naanaku tin kurabaa(nn)aa ||2||

Unto those who serve You, unto those who serve You, Dear Lord, servant Nanak is a sacrifice. ||2||


ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਖਵਾਸੀ ॥

हरि धिआवहि हरि धिआवहि तुधु जी से जन जुग महि सुखवासी ॥

Hari dhiaavahi hari dhiaavahi tudhu jee se jan jug mahi sukhavaasee ||

Those who meditate on You, Lord, those who meditate on You-those humble beings dwell in peace in this world.

ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਤਿਨ ਤੂਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥

से मुकतु से मुकतु भए जिन हरि धिआइआ जी तिन तूटी जम की फासी ॥

Se mukatu se mukatu bhae jin hari dhiaaiaa jee tin tootee jam kee phaasee ||

They are liberated, they are liberated-those who meditate on the Lord. For them, the noose of death is cut away.

ਜਿਨ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਸਭੁ ਗਵਾਸੀ ॥

जिन निरभउ जिन हरि निरभउ धिआइआ जी तिन का भउ सभु गवासी ॥

Jin nirabhau jin hari nirabhau dhiaaiaa jee tin kaa bhau sabhu gavaasee ||

Those who meditate on the Fearless One, on the Fearless Lord-all their fears are dispelled.

ਜਿਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਸਮਾਸੀ ॥

जिन सेविआ जिन सेविआ मेरा हरि जी ते हरि हरि रूपि समासी ॥

Jin seviaa jin seviaa meraa hari jee te hari hari roopi samaasee ||

Those who serve, those who serve my Dear Lord, are absorbed into the Being of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਸੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਸੀ ॥੩॥

से धंनु से धंनु जिन हरि धिआइआ जी जनु नानकु तिन बलि जासी ॥३॥

Se dhannu se dhannu jin hari dhiaaiaa jee janu naanaku tin bali jaasee ||3||

Blessed are they, blessed are they, who meditate on their Dear Lord. Servant Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||3||


ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਜੀ ਭਰੇ ਬਿਅੰਤ ਬੇਅੰਤਾ ॥

तेरी भगति तेरी भगति भंडार जी भरे बिअंत बेअंता ॥

Teree bhagati teree bhagati bhanddaar jee bhare biantt beanttaa ||

Devotion to You, devotion to You, is a treasure overflowing, infinite and beyond measure.

ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥

तेरे भगत तेरे भगत सलाहनि तुधु जी हरि अनिक अनेक अनंता ॥

Tere bhagat tere bhagat salaahani tudhu jee hari anik anek ananttaa ||

Your devotees, Your devotees praise You, Dear Lord, in many and various and countless ways.

ਤੇਰੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਕਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਜੀ ਤਪੁ ਤਾਪਹਿ ਜਪਹਿ ਬੇਅੰਤਾ ॥

तेरी अनिक तेरी अनिक करहि हरि पूजा जी तपु तापहि जपहि बेअंता ॥

Teree anik teree anik karahi hari poojaa jee tapu taapahi japahi beanttaa ||

For You, many, for You, so very many perform worship services, O Dear Infinite Lord; they practice disciplined meditation and chant endlessly.

ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਪੜਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਜੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੰਤਾ ॥

तेरे अनेक तेरे अनेक पड़हि बहु सिम्रिति सासत जी करि किरिआ खटु करम करंता ॥

Tere anek tere anek pa(rr)ahi bahu simriti saasat jee kari kiriaa khatu karam karanttaa ||

For You, many, for You, so very many read the various Simritees and Shaastras. They perform rituals and religious rites.

ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਭਲੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਜੋ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥੪॥

से भगत से भगत भले जन नानक जी जो भावहि मेरे हरि भगवंता ॥४॥

Se bhagat se bhagat bhale jan naanak jee jo bhaavahi mere hari bhagavanttaa ||4||

Those devotees, those devotees are sublime, O servant Nanak, who are pleasing to my Dear Lord God. ||4||


ਤੂੰ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

तूं आदि पुरखु अपर्मपरु करता जी तुधु जेवडु अवरु न कोई ॥

Toonn aadi purakhu aparampparu karataa jee tudhu jevadu avaru na koee ||

You are the Primal Being, the Most Wonderful Creator. There is no other as Great as You.

ਤੂੰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਏਕੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਏਕੋ ਜੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

तूं जुगु जुगु एको सदा सदा तूं एको जी तूं निहचलु करता सोई ॥

Toonn jugu jugu eko sadaa sadaa toonn eko jee toonn nihachalu karataa soee ||

Age after age, You are the One. Forever and ever, You are the One. You never change, O Creator Lord.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਵਰਤੈ ਜੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

तुधु आपे भावै सोई वरतै जी तूं आपे करहि सु होई ॥

Tudhu aape bhaavai soee varatai jee toonn aape karahi su hoee ||

Everything happens according to Your Will. You Yourself accomplish all that occurs.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਉਪਾਈ ਜੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਭ ਗੋਈ ॥

तुधु आपे स्रिसटि सभ उपाई जी तुधु आपे सिरजि सभ गोई ॥

Tudhu aape srisati sabh upaaee jee tudhu aape siraji sabh goee ||

You Yourself created the entire universe, and having fashioned it, You Yourself shall destroy it all.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੇ ਜੀ ਜੋ ਸਭਸੈ ਕਾ ਜਾਣੋਈ ॥੫॥੧॥

जनु नानकु गुण गावै करते के जी जो सभसै का जाणोई ॥५॥१॥

Janu naanaku gu(nn) gaavai karate ke jee jo sabhasai kaa jaa(nn)oee ||5||1||

Servant Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Dear Creator, the Knower of all. ||5||1||


ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

आसा महला ४ ॥

Aasaa mahalaa 4 ||

Aasaa, Fourth Mehl:

ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ਮੈਡਾ ਸਾਂਈ ॥

तूं करता सचिआरु मैडा सांई ॥

Toonn karataa sachiaaru maidaa saanee ||

You are the True Creator, my Lord and Master.

ਜੋ ਤਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਥੀਸੀ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਹਉ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जो तउ भावै सोई थीसी जो तूं देहि सोई हउ पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jo tau bhaavai soee theesee jo toonn dehi soee hau paaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Whatever pleases You comes to pass. As You give, so do we receive. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

सभ तेरी तूं सभनी धिआइआ ॥

Sabh teree toonn sabhanee dhiaaiaa ||

All belong to You, all meditate on you.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

जिस नो क्रिपा करहि तिनि नाम रतनु पाइआ ॥

Jis no kripaa karahi tini naam ratanu paaiaa ||

Those who are blessed with Your Mercy obtain the Jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਧਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

गुरमुखि लाधा मनमुखि गवाइआ ॥

Guramukhi laadhaa manamukhi gavaaiaa ||

The Gurmukhs obtain it, and the self-willed manmukhs lose it.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

तुधु आपि विछोड़िआ आपि मिलाइआ ॥१॥

Tudhu aapi vichho(rr)iaa aapi milaaiaa ||1||

You Yourself separate them from Yourself, and You Yourself reunite with them again. ||1||


ਤੂੰ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਸਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

तूं दरीआउ सभ तुझ ही माहि ॥

Toonn dareeaau sabh tujh hee maahi ||

You are the River of Life; all are within You.

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

तुझ बिनु दूजा कोई नाहि ॥

Tujh binu doojaa koee naahi ||

There is no one except You.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਖੇਲੁ ॥

जीअ जंत सभि तेरा खेलु ॥

Jeea jantt sabhi teraa khelu ||

All living beings are Your playthings.

ਵਿਜੋਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਲੁ ॥੨॥

विजोगि मिलि विछुड़िआ संजोगी मेलु ॥२॥

Vijogi mili vichhu(rr)iaa sanjjogee melu ||2||

The separated ones meet, and by great good fortune, those suffering in separation are reunited once again. ||2||


ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂ ਜਾਣਾਇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

जिस नो तू जाणाइहि सोई जनु जाणै ॥

Jis no too jaa(nn)aaihi soee janu jaa(nn)ai ||

They alone understand, whom You inspire to understand;

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥

हरि गुण सद ही आखि वखाणै ॥

Hari gu(nn) sad hee aakhi vakhaa(nn)ai ||

They continually chant and repeat the Lord's Praises.

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

जिनि हरि सेविआ तिनि सुखु पाइआ ॥

Jini hari seviaa tini sukhu paaiaa ||

Those who serve You find peace.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

सहजे ही हरि नामि समाइआ ॥३॥

Sahaje hee hari naami samaaiaa ||3||

They are intuitively absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||3||


ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

तू आपे करता तेरा कीआ सभु होइ ॥

Too aape karataa teraa keeaa sabhu hoi ||

You Yourself are the Creator. Everything that happens is by Your Doing.

ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

तुधु बिनु दूजा अवरु न कोइ ॥

Tudhu binu doojaa avaru na koi ||

There is no one except You.

ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥

तू करि करि वेखहि जाणहि सोइ ॥

Too kari kari vekhahi jaa(nn)ahi soi ||

You created the creation; You behold it and understand it.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੨॥

जन नानक गुरमुखि परगटु होइ ॥४॥२॥

Jan naanak guramukhi paragatu hoi ||4||2||

O servant Nanak, the Lord is revealed through the Gurmukh, the Living Expression of the Guru's Word. ||4||2||

ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

कामि करोधि नगरु बहु भरिआ मिलि साधू खंडल खंडा हे ॥

Kaami karodhi nagaru bahu bhariaa mili saadhoo khanddal khanddaa he ||

The body-village is filled to overflowing with anger and sexual desire; these were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਲਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥

पूरबि लिखत लिखे गुरु पाइआ मनि हरि लिव मंडल मंडा हे ॥१॥

Poorabi likhat likhe guru paaiaa mani hari liv manddal manddaa he ||1||

By pre-ordained destiny, I have met with the Guru. I have entered into the realm of the Lord's Love. ||1||


ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਅੰਜੁਲੀ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

करि साधू अंजुली पुनु वडा हे ॥

Kari saadhoo anjjulee punu vadaa he ||

Greet the Holy Saint with your palms pressed together; this is an act of great merit.

ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡਉਤ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

करि डंडउत पुनु वडा हे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kari danddaut punu vadaa he ||1|| rahaau ||

Bow down before Him; this is a virtuous action indeed. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

साकत हरि रस सादु न जाणिआ तिन अंतरि हउमै कंडा हे ॥

Saakat hari ras saadu na jaa(nn)iaa tin anttari haumai kanddaa he ||

The wicked shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not know the Taste of the Lord's Sublime Essence. The thorn of egotism is embedded deep within them.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਚਲਹਿ ਚੁਭੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥

जिउ जिउ चलहि चुभै दुखु पावहि जमकालु सहहि सिरि डंडा हे ॥२॥

Jiu jiu chalahi chubhai dukhu paavahi jamakaalu sahahi siri danddaa he ||2||

The more they walk away, the deeper it pierces them, and the more they suffer in pain, until finally, the Messenger of Death smashes his club against their heads. ||2||


ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

हरि जन हरि हरि नामि समाणे दुखु जनम मरण भव खंडा हे ॥

Hari jan hari hari naami samaa(nn)e dukhu janam mara(nn) bhav khanddaa he ||

The humble servants of the Lord are absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The pain of birth and the fear of death are eradicated.

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥

अबिनासी पुरखु पाइआ परमेसरु बहु सोभ खंड ब्रहमंडा हे ॥३॥

Abinaasee purakhu paaiaa paramesaru bahu sobh khandd brhamanddaa he ||3||

They have found the Imperishable Supreme Being, the Transcendent Lord God, and they receive great honor throughout all the worlds and realms. ||3||


ਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਵਡ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥

हम गरीब मसकीन प्रभ तेरे हरि राखु राखु वड वडा हे ॥

Ham gareeb masakeen prbh tere hari raakhu raakhu vad vadaa he ||

I am poor and meek, God, but I belong to You! Save me-please save me, O Greatest of the Great!

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੪॥

जन नानक नामु अधारु टेक है हरि नामे ही सुखु मंडा हे ॥४॥४॥

Jan naanak naamu adhaaru tek hai hari naame hee sukhu manddaa he ||4||4||

Servant Nanak takes the Sustenance and Support of the Naam. In the Name of the Lord, he enjoys celestial peace. ||4||4||


ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥

ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥

मै मनि तनि बिरहु अति अगला किउ प्रीतमु मिलै घरि आइ ॥

Mai mani tani birahu ati agalaa kiu preetamu milai ghari aai ||

Within my mind and body is the intense pain of separation; how can my Beloved come to meet me in my home?

ਜਾ ਦੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੇਖਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

जा देखा प्रभु आपणा प्रभि देखिऐ दुखु जाइ ॥

Jaa dekhaa prbhu aapa(nn)aa prbhi dekhiai dukhu jaai ||

When I see my God, seeing God Himself, my pain is taken away.

ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਾ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

जाइ पुछा तिन सजणा प्रभु कितु बिधि मिलै मिलाइ ॥१॥

Jaai puchhaa tin saja(nn)aa prbhu kitu bidhi milai milaai ||1||

I go and ask my friends, ""How can I meet and merge with God?"" ||1||


ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

मेरे सतिगुरा मै तुझ बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥

Mere satiguraa mai tujh binu avaru na koi ||

O my True Guru, without You I have no other at all.

ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हम मूरख मुगध सरणागती करि किरपा मेले हरि सोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ham moorakh mugadh sara(nn)aagatee kari kirapaa mele hari soi ||1|| rahaau ||

I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary. Please be Merciful and unite me with the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

सतिगुरु दाता हरि नाम का प्रभु आपि मिलावै सोइ ॥

Satiguru daataa hari naam kaa prbhu aapi milaavai soi ||

The True Guru is the Giver of the Name of the Lord. God Himself causes us to meet Him.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

सतिगुरि हरि प्रभु बुझिआ गुर जेवडु अवरु न कोइ ॥

Satiguri hari prbhu bujhiaa gur jevadu avaru na koi ||

The True Guru understands the Lord God. There is no other as Great as the Guru.

ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਢਹਿ ਪਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥

हउ गुर सरणाई ढहि पवा करि दइआ मेले प्रभु सोइ ॥२॥

Hau gur sara(nn)aaee dhahi pavaa kari daiaa mele prbhu soi ||2||

I have come and collapsed in the Guru's Sanctuary. In His Kindness, He has united me with God. ||2||


ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਕੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

मनहठि किनै न पाइआ करि उपाव थके सभु कोइ ॥

Manahathi kinai na paaiaa kari upaav thake sabhu koi ||

No one has found Him by stubborn-mindedness. All have grown weary of the effort.

ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

सहस सिआणप करि रहे मनि कोरै रंगु न होइ ॥

Sahas siaa(nn)ap kari rahe mani korai ranggu na hoi ||

Thousands of clever mental tricks have been tried, but still, the raw and undisciplined mind does not absorb the Color of the Lord's Love.

ਕੂੜਿ ਕਪਟਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੈ ਖਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

कूड़ि कपटि किनै न पाइओ जो बीजै खावै सोइ ॥३॥

Koo(rr)i kapati kinai na paaio jo beejai khaavai soi ||3||

By falsehood and deception, none have found Him. Whatever you plant, you shall eat. ||3||


ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

सभना तेरी आस प्रभु सभ जीअ तेरे तूं रासि ॥

Sabhanaa teree aas prbhu sabh jeea tere toonn raasi ||

O God, You are the Hope of all. All beings are Yours; You are the Wealth of all.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਖਾਲੀ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਦਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

प्रभ तुधहु खाली को नही दरि गुरमुखा नो साबासि ॥

Prbh tudhahu khaalee ko nahee dari guramukhaa no saabaasi ||

O God, none return from You empty-handed; at Your Door, the Gurmukhs are praised and acclaimed.

ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਕਢਿ ਲੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੧॥੬੫॥

बिखु भउजल डुबदे कढि लै जन नानक की अरदासि ॥४॥१॥६५॥

Bikhu bhaujal dubade kadhi lai jan naanak kee aradaasi ||4||1||65||

In the terrifying world-ocean of poison, people are drowning-please lift them up and save them! This is servant Nanak's humble prayer. ||4||1||65||

ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸੁ ॥

नामु मिलै मनु त्रिपतीऐ बिनु नामै ध्रिगु जीवासु ॥

Naamu milai manu tripateeai binu naamai dhrigu jeevaasu ||

Receiving the Naam, the mind is satisfied; without the Naam, life is cursed.

ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੈ ਦਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥

कोई गुरमुखि सजणु जे मिलै मै दसे प्रभु गुणतासु ॥

Koee guramukhi saja(nn)u je milai mai dase prbhu gu(nn)ataasu ||

If I meet the Gurmukh, my Spiritual Friend, he will show me God, the Treasure of Excellence.

ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਚਉ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਮੈ ਨਾਮ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

हउ तिसु विटहु चउ खंनीऐ मै नाम करे परगासु ॥१॥

Hau tisu vitahu chau khanneeai mai naam kare paragaasu ||1||

I am every bit a sacrifice to one who reveals to me the Naam. ||1||


ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

मेरे प्रीतमा हउ जीवा नामु धिआइ ॥

Mere preetamaa hau jeevaa naamu dhiaai ||

O my Beloved, I live by meditating on Your Name.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

बिनु नावै जीवणु ना थीऐ मेरे सतिगुर नामु द्रिड़ाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Binu naavai jeeva(nn)u naa theeai mere satigur naamu dri(rr)aai ||1|| rahaau ||

Without Your Name, my life does not even exist. My True Guru has implanted the Naam within me. ||1|| Pause ||


ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

नामु अमोलकु रतनु है पूरे सतिगुर पासि ॥

Naamu amolaku ratanu hai poore satigur paasi ||

The Naam is a Priceless Jewel; it is with the Perfect True Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੈ ਲਗਿਆ ਕਢਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥

सतिगुर सेवै लगिआ कढि रतनु देवै परगासि ॥

Satigur sevai lagiaa kadhi ratanu devai paragaasi ||

When one is enjoined to serve the True Guru, He brings out this Jewel and bestows this enlightenment.

ਧੰਨੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਵਡ ਭਾਗੀਆ ਜੋ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

धंनु वडभागी वड भागीआ जो आइ मिले गुर पासि ॥२॥

Dhannu vadabhaagee vad bhaageeaa jo aai mile gur paasi ||2||

Blessed, and most fortunate of the very fortunate, are those who come to meet the Guru. ||2||


ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥

जिना सतिगुरु पुरखु न भेटिओ से भागहीण वसि काल ॥

Jinaa satiguru purakhu na bhetio se bhaagahee(nn) vasi kaal ||

Those who have not met the Primal Being, the True Guru, are most unfortunate, and are subject to death.

ਓਇ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਹਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਕਰਾਲ ॥

ओइ फिरि फिरि जोनि भवाईअहि विचि विसटा करि विकराल ॥

Oi phiri phiri joni bhavaaeeahi vichi visataa kari vikaraal ||

They wander in reincarnation over and over again, as the most disgusting maggots in manure.

ਓਨਾ ਪਾਸਿ ਦੁਆਸਿ ਨ ਭਿਟੀਐ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥੩॥

ओना पासि दुआसि न भिटीऐ जिन अंतरि क्रोधु चंडाल ॥३॥

Onaa paasi duaasi na bhiteeai jin anttari krodhu chanddaal ||3||

Do not meet with, or even approach those people, whose hearts are filled with horrible anger. ||3||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਵਹਿ ਆਇ ॥

सतिगुरु पुरखु अम्रित सरु वडभागी नावहि आइ ॥

Satiguru purakhu ammmrit saru vadabhaagee naavahi aai ||

The True Guru, the Primal Being, is the Pool of Ambrosial Nectar. The very fortunate ones come to bathe in it.

ਉਨ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇ ॥

उन जनम जनम की मैलु उतरै निरमल नामु द्रिड़ाइ ॥

Un janam janam kee mailu utarai niramal naamu dri(rr)aai ||

The filth of many incarnations is washed away, and the Immaculate Naam is implanted within.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੨॥੬੬॥

जन नानक उतम पदु पाइआ सतिगुर की लिव लाइ ॥४॥२॥६६॥

Jan naanak utam padu paaiaa satigur kee liv laai ||4||2||66||

Servant Nanak has obtained the most exalted state, lovingly attuned to the True Guru. ||4||2||66||

गुण गावा गुण विथरा गुण बोली मेरी माइ ॥

Gu(nn) gaavaa gu(nn) vitharaa gu(nn) bolee meree maai ||

I sing His Glories, I describe His Glories, I speak of His Glories, O my mother.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਜਣ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥

गुरमुखि सजणु गुणकारीआ मिलि सजण हरि गुण गाइ ॥

Guramukhi saja(nn)u gu(nn)akaareeaa mili saja(nn) hari gu(nn) gaai ||

The Gurmukhs, my spiritual friends, bestow virtue. Meeting with my spiritual friends, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਹੀਰੈ ਹੀਰੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥

हीरै हीरु मिलि बेधिआ रंगि चलूलै नाइ ॥१॥

Heerai heeru mili bedhiaa ranggi chaloolai naai ||1||

The Diamond of the Guru has pierced the diamond of my mind, which is now dyed in the deep crimson color of the Name. ||1||


ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

मेरे गोविंदा गुण गावा त्रिपति मनि होइ ॥

Mere govinddaa gu(nn) gaavaa tripati mani hoi ||

O my Lord of the Universe, singing Your Glorious Praises, my mind is satisfied.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अंतरि पिआस हरि नाम की गुरु तुसि मिलावै सोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Anttari piaas hari naam kee guru tusi milaavai soi ||1|| rahaau ||

Within me is the thirst for the Lord's Name; may the Guru, in His Pleasure, grant it to me. ||1|| Pause ||


ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਹੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਕਰੇ ਪਸਾਉ ॥

मनु रंगहु वडभागीहो गुरु तुठा करे पसाउ ॥

Manu ranggahu vadabhaageeho guru tuthaa kare pasaau ||

Let your minds be imbued with His Love, O blessed and fortunate ones. By His Pleasure, the Guru bestows His Gifts.

ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥

गुरु नामु द्रिड़ाए रंग सिउ हउ सतिगुर कै बलि जाउ ॥

Guru naamu dri(rr)aae rangg siu hau satigur kai bali jaau ||

The Guru has lovingly implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me; I am a sacrifice to the True Guru.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਉ ॥੨॥

बिनु सतिगुर हरि नामु न लभई लख कोटी करम कमाउ ॥२॥

Binu satigur hari naamu na labhaee lakh kotee karam kamaau ||2||

Without the True Guru, the Name of the Lord is not found, even though people may perform hundreds of thousands, even millions of rituals. ||2||


ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

बिनु भागा सतिगुरु ना मिलै घरि बैठिआ निकटि नित पासि ॥

Binu bhaagaa satiguru naa milai ghari baithiaa nikati nit paasi ||

Without destiny, the True Guru is not found, even though He sits within the home of our own inner being, always near and close at hand.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਪੜਦਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਈਆਸਿ ॥

अंतरि अगिआन दुखु भरमु है विचि पड़दा दूरि पईआसि ॥

Anttari agiaan dukhu bharamu hai vichi pa(rr)adaa doori paeeaasi ||

There is ignorance within, and the pain of doubt, like a separating screen.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਲੋਹੁ ਬੂਡਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੩॥

बिनु सतिगुर भेटे कंचनु ना थीऐ मनमुखु लोहु बूडा बेड़ी पासि ॥३॥

Binu satigur bhete kancchanu naa theeai manamukhu lohu boodaa be(rr)ee paasi ||3||

Without meeting with the True Guru, no one is transformed into gold. The self-willed manmukh sinks like iron, while the boat is very close. ||3||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵ ਹੈ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਚੜਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

सतिगुरु बोहिथु हरि नाव है कितु बिधि चड़िआ जाइ ॥

Satiguru bohithu hari naav hai kitu bidhi cha(rr)iaa jaai ||

The Boat of the True Guru is the Name of the Lord. How can we climb on board?

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਬੈਠਾ ਆਇ ॥

सतिगुर कै भाणै जो चलै विचि बोहिथ बैठा आइ ॥

Satigur kai bhaa(nn)ai jo chalai vichi bohith baithaa aai ||

One who walks in harmony with the True Guru's Will comes to sit in this Boat.

ਧੰਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੬੭॥

धंनु धंनु वडभागी नानका जिना सतिगुरु लए मिलाइ ॥४॥३॥६७॥

Dhannu dhannu vadabhaagee naanakaa jinaa satiguru lae milaai ||4||3||67||

Blessed, blessed are those very fortunate ones, O Nanak, who are united with the Lord through the True Guru. ||4||3||67||

Siree Raag, Fourth Mehl:

ਹਉ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਸਾਈ ਨਿਤ ਖੜੀ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਸੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਾਉ ॥

हउ पंथु दसाई नित खड़ी कोई प्रभु दसे तिनि जाउ ॥

Hau pantthu dasaaee nit kha(rr)ee koee prbhu dase tini jaau ||

I stand by the wayside and ask the Way. If only someone would show me the Way to God-I would go with him.

ਜਿਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਪੀਛੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਫਿਰਾਉ ॥

जिनी मेरा पिआरा राविआ तिन पीछै लागि फिराउ ॥

Jinee meraa piaaraa raaviaa tin peechhai laagi phiraau ||

I follow in the footsteps of those who enjoy the Love of my Beloved.

ਕਰਿ ਮਿੰਨਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਦੜੀ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਣੈ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥੧॥

करि मिंनति करि जोदड़ी मै प्रभु मिलणै का चाउ ॥१॥

Kari minnati kari joda(rr)ee mai prbhu mila(nn)ai kaa chaau ||1||

I beg of them, I implore them; I have such a yearning to meet God! ||1||


ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਜਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

मेरे भाई जना कोई मो कउ हरि प्रभु मेलि मिलाइ ॥

Mere bhaaee janaa koee mo kau hari prbhu meli milaai ||

O my Siblings of Destiny, please unite me in Union with my Lord God.

ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हउ सतिगुर विटहु वारिआ जिनि हरि प्रभु दीआ दिखाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hau satigur vitahu vaariaa jini hari prbhu deeaa dikhaai ||1|| rahaau ||

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who has shown me the Lord God. ||1|| Pause ||


ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਢਹਿ ਪਵਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

होइ निमाणी ढहि पवा पूरे सतिगुर पासि ॥

Hoi nimaa(nn)ee dhahi pavaa poore satigur paasi ||

In deep humility, I fall at the Feet of the Perfect True Guru.

ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

निमाणिआ गुरु माणु है गुरु सतिगुरु करे साबासि ॥

Nimaa(nn)iaa guru maa(nn)u hai guru satiguru kare saabaasi ||

The Guru is the Honor of the dishonored. The Guru, the True Guru, brings approval and applause.

ਹਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਨ ਰਜਊ ਮੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

हउ गुरु सालाहि न रजऊ मै मेले हरि प्रभु पासि ॥२॥

Hau guru saalaahi na rajau mai mele hari prbhu paasi ||2||

I am never tired of praising the Guru, who unites me with the Lord God. ||2||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਜੇਤਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

सतिगुर नो सभ को लोचदा जेता जगतु सभु कोइ ॥

Satigur no sabh ko lochadaa jetaa jagatu sabhu koi ||

Everyone, all over the world, longs for the True Guru.

ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਬਹਿ ਰੋਇ ॥

बिनु भागा दरसनु ना थीऐ भागहीण बहि रोइ ॥

Binu bhaagaa darasanu naa theeai bhaagahee(nn) bahi roi ||

Without the good fortune of destiny, the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is not obtained. The unfortunate ones just sit and cry.

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣਾ ਸੋ ਥੀਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥

जो हरि प्रभ भाणा सो थीआ धुरि लिखिआ न मेटै कोइ ॥३॥

Jo hari prbh bhaa(nn)aa so theeaa dhuri likhiaa na metai koi ||3||

All things happen according to the Will of the Lord God. No one can erase the pre-ordained Writ of Destiny. ||3||


ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

आपे सतिगुरु आपि हरि आपे मेलि मिलाइ ॥

Aape satiguru aapi hari aape meli milaai ||

He Himself is the True Guru; He Himself is the Lord. He Himself unites in His Union.

ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਲਸੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੀਛੈ ਪਾਇ ॥

आपि दइआ करि मेलसी गुर सतिगुर पीछै पाइ ॥

Aapi daiaa kari melasee gur satigur peechhai paai ||

In His Kindness, He unites us with Himself, as we follow the Guru, the True Guru.

ਸਭੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਗਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੪॥੬੮॥

सभु जगजीवनु जगि आपि है नानक जलु जलहि समाइ ॥४॥४॥६८॥

Sabhu jagajeevanu jagi aapi hai naanak jalu jalahi samaai ||4||4||68||

Over all the world, He is the Life of the World, O Nanak, like water mingled with water. ||4||4||68||

ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਲਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥

रसु अम्रितु नामु रसु अति भला कितु बिधि मिलै रसु खाइ ॥

Rasu ammmritu naamu rasu ati bhalaa kitu bidhi milai rasu khaai ||

The Essence of the Ambrosial Naam is the most sublime essence; how can I get to taste this essence?

ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਤੁਸਾ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਇ ॥

जाइ पुछहु सोहागणी तुसा किउ करि मिलिआ प्रभु आइ ॥

Jaai puchhahu sohaaga(nn)ee tusaa kiu kari miliaa prbhu aai ||

I go and ask the happy soul-brides, ""How did you come to meet God?""

ਓਇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਨ ਬੋਲਨੀ ਹਉ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵਾ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥

ओइ वेपरवाह न बोलनी हउ मलि मलि धोवा तिन पाइ ॥१॥

Oi veparavaah na bolanee hau mali mali dhovaa tin paai ||1||

They are care-free and do not speak; I massage and wash their feet. ||1||


ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਜਣ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥

भाई रे मिलि सजण हरि गुण सारि ॥

Bhaaee re mili saja(nn) hari gu(nn) saari ||

O Siblings of Destiny, meet with your spiritual friend, and dwell upon the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਸਜਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਢੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सजणु सतिगुरु पुरखु है दुखु कढै हउमै मारि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saja(nn)u satiguru purakhu hai dukhu kadhai haumai maari ||1|| rahaau ||

The True Guru, the Primal Being, is your Friend, who shall drive out pain and subdue your ego. ||1|| Pause ||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਤਿਨ ਦਇਆ ਪਈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

गुरमुखीआ सोहागणी तिन दइआ पई मनि आइ ॥

Guramukheeaa sohaaga(nn)ee tin daiaa paee mani aai ||

The Gurmukhs are the happy soul-brides; their minds are filled with kindness.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਚਨੁ ਰਤੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥

सतिगुर वचनु रतंनु है जो मंने सु हरि रसु खाइ ॥

Satigur vachanu ratannu hai jo manne su hari rasu khaai ||

The Word of the True Guru is the Jewel. One who believes in it tastes the Sublime Essence of the Lord.

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਵਡ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਧਾ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥੨॥

से वडभागी वड जाणीअहि जिन हरि रसु खाधा गुर भाइ ॥२॥

Se vadabhaagee vad jaa(nn)eeahi jin hari rasu khaadhaa gur bhaai ||2||

Those who partake of the Lord's Sublime Essence, through the Guru's Love, are known as great and very fortunate. ||2||


ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਵਣਿ ਤਿਣਿ ਸਭਤੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਨਹੀ ਖਾਇ ॥

इहु हरि रसु वणि तिणि सभतु है भागहीण नही खाइ ॥

Ihu hari rasu va(nn)i ti(nn)i sabhatu hai bhaagahee(nn) nahee khaai ||

This Sublime Essence of the Lord is in the forests, in the fields and everywhere, but the unfortunate ones do not taste it.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਲੈ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥

बिनु सतिगुर पलै ना पवै मनमुख रहे बिललाइ ॥

Binu satigur palai naa pavai manamukh rahe bilalaai ||

Without the True Guru, it is not obtained. The self-willed manmukhs continue to cry in misery.

ਓਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਨਾ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਓਨਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਲਾਇ ॥੩॥

ओइ सतिगुर आगै ना निवहि ओना अंतरि क्रोधु बलाइ ॥३॥

Oi satigur aagai naa nivahi onaa anttari krodhu balaai ||3||

They do not bow before the True Guru; the demon of anger is within them. ||3||


ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

हरि हरि हरि रसु आपि है आपे हरि रसु होइ ॥

Hari hari hari rasu aapi hai aape hari rasu hoi ||

The Lord Himself, Har, Har, Har, is the Sublime Essence. The Lord Himself is the Essence.

ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਵਸੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚੋਇ ॥

आपि दइआ करि देवसी गुरमुखि अम्रितु चोइ ॥

Aapi daiaa kari devasee guramukhi ammmritu choi ||

In His Kindness, He blesses the Gurmukh with it; the Ambrosial Nectar of this Amrit trickles down.

ਸਭੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੫॥੬੯॥

सभु तनु मनु हरिआ होइआ नानक हरि वसिआ मनि सोइ ॥४॥५॥६९॥

Sabhu tanu manu hariaa hoiaa naanak hari vasiaa mani soi ||4||5||69||

Then, the body and mind totally blossom forth and flourish; O Nanak, the Lord comes to dwell within the mind. ||4||5||69||

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਚੜੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਥਵੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਜਾਇ ॥

दिनसु चड़ै फिरि आथवै रैणि सबाई जाइ ॥

Dinasu cha(rr)ai phiri aathavai rai(nn)i sabaaee jaai ||

The day dawns, and then it ends, and the night passes away.

ਆਵ ਘਟੈ ਨਰੁ ਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ਨਿਤਿ ਮੂਸਾ ਲਾਜੁ ਟੁਕਾਇ ॥

आव घटै नरु ना बुझै निति मूसा लाजु टुकाइ ॥

Aav ghatai naru naa bujhai niti moosaa laaju tukaai ||

Man's life is diminishing, but he does not understand. Each day, the mouse of death is gnawing away at the rope of life.

ਗੁੜੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਲਗਿ ਮਾਖੀ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੧॥

गुड़ु मिठा माइआ पसरिआ मनमुखु लगि माखी पचै पचाइ ॥१॥

Gu(rr)u mithaa maaiaa pasariaa manamukhu lagi maakhee pachai pachaai ||1||

Maya spreads out like sweet molasses; the self-willed manmukh is stuck like a fly, rotting away. ||1||


ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਮੈ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

भाई रे मै मीतु सखा प्रभु सोइ ॥

Bhaaee re mai meetu sakhaa prbhu soi ||

O Siblings of Destiny, God is my Friend and Companion.

ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਬੇਲੀ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

पुतु कलतु मोहु बिखु है अंति बेली कोइ न होइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Putu kalatu mohu bikhu hai antti belee koi na hoi ||1|| rahaau ||

Emotional attachment to children and spouse is poison; in the end, no one will go along with you as your helper. ||1|| Pause ||


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਉਬਰੇ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹੇ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥

गुरमति हरि लिव उबरे अलिपतु रहे सरणाइ ॥

Guramati hari liv ubare alipatu rahe sara(nn)aai ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, some embrace love for the Lord, and are saved. They remain detached and unaffected, and they find the Sanctuary of the Lord.

ਓਨੀ ਚਲਣੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਖਰਚੁ ਲੀਆ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

ओनी चलणु सदा निहालिआ हरि खरचु लीआ पति पाइ ॥

Onee chala(nn)u sadaa nihaaliaa hari kharachu leeaa pati paai ||

They keep death constantly before their eyes; they gather the Provisions of the Lord's Name, and receive honor.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮੰਨੀਅਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਲਏ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि दरगह मंनीअहि हरि आपि लए गलि लाइ ॥२॥

Guramukhi daragah manneeahi hari aapi lae gali laai ||2||

The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord. The Lord Himself takes them in His Loving Embrace. ||2||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਪੰਥੁ ਪਰਗਟਾ ਦਰਿ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਇ ॥

गुरमुखा नो पंथु परगटा दरि ठाक न कोई पाइ ॥

Guramukhaa no pantthu paragataa dari thaak na koee paai ||

For the Gurmukhs, the Way is obvious. At the Lord's Door, they face no obstructions.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਨਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

हरि नामु सलाहनि नामु मनि नामि रहनि लिव लाइ ॥

Hari naamu salaahani naamu mani naami rahani liv laai ||

They praise the Lord's Name, they keep the Naam in their minds, and they remain attached to the Love of the Naam.

ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਦਰਿ ਵਜਦੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥੩॥

अनहद धुनी दरि वजदे दरि सचै सोभा पाइ ॥३॥

Anahad dhunee dari vajade dari sachai sobhaa paai ||3||

The Unstruck Celestial Music vibrates for them at the Lord's Door, and they are honored at the True Door. ||3||


ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥

जिनी गुरमुखि नामु सलाहिआ तिना सभ को कहै साबासि ॥

Jinee guramukhi naamu salaahiaa tinaa sabh ko kahai saabaasi ||

Those Gurmukhs who praise the Naam are applauded by everyone.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੈ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

तिन की संगति देहि प्रभ मै जाचिक की अरदासि ॥

Tin kee sanggati dehi prbh mai jaachik kee aradaasi ||

Grant me their company, God-I am a beggar; this is my prayer.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਾਗ ਵਡੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੩੩॥੩੧॥੬॥੭੦॥

नानक भाग वडे तिना गुरमुखा जिन अंतरि नामु परगासि ॥४॥३३॥३१॥६॥७०॥

Naanak bhaag vade tinaa guramukhaa jin anttari naamu paragaasi ||4||33||31||6||70||

ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਉਦਰ ਮੰਝਾਰਿ ॥

पहिलै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा हरि पाइआ उदर मंझारि ॥

Pahilai paharai rai(nn)i kai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa hari paaiaa udar manjjhaari ||

In the first watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the Lord places you in the womb.

ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਉਚਰੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਰਿ ॥

हरि धिआवै हरि उचरै वणजारिआ मित्रा हरि हरि नामु समारि ॥

Hari dhiaavai hari ucharai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa hari hari naamu samaari ||

You meditate on the Lord, and chant the Lord's Name, O my merchant friend. You contemplate the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਗਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਿਆ ॥

हरि हरि नामु जपे आराधे विचि अगनी हरि जपि जीविआ ॥

Hari hari naamu jape aaraadhe vichi aganee hari japi jeeviaa ||

Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and meditating on it within the fire of the womb, your life is sustained by dwelling on the Naam.

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਭਇਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਰਸੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤ ਥੀਵਿਆ ॥

बाहरि जनमु भइआ मुखि लागा सरसे पिता मात थीविआ ॥

Baahari janamu bhaiaa mukhi laagaa sarase pitaa maat theeviaa ||

You are born and you come out, and your mother and father are delighted to see your face.

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਵਸਤੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਕਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

जिस की वसतु तिसु चेतहु प्राणी करि हिरदै गुरमुखि बीचारि ॥

Jis kee vasatu tisu chetahu praa(nn)ee kari hiradai guramukhi beechaari ||

Remember the One, O mortal, to whom the child belongs. As Gurmukh, reflect upon Him within your heart.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

कहु नानक प्राणी पहिलै पहरै हरि जपीऐ किरपा धारि ॥१॥

Kahu naanak praa(nn)ee pahilai paharai hari japeeai kirapaa dhaari ||1||

Says Nanak, O mortal, in the first watch of the night, dwell upon the Lord, who shall shower you with His Grace. ||1||


ਦੂਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

दूजै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा मनु लागा दूजै भाइ ॥

Doojai paharai rai(nn)i kai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa manu laagaa doojai bhaai ||

In the second watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the mind is attached to the love of duality.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਲੀਐ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਲੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥

मेरा मेरा करि पालीऐ वणजारिआ मित्रा ले मात पिता गलि लाइ ॥

Meraa meraa kari paaleeai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa le maat pitaa gali laai ||

Mother and father hug you close in their embrace, claiming, ""He is mine, he is mine""; so is the child brought up, O my merchant friend.

ਲਾਵੈ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਗਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਖਟਿ ਖਵਾਏ ॥

लावै मात पिता सदा गल सेती मनि जाणै खटि खवाए ॥

Laavai maat pitaa sadaa gal setee mani jaa(nn)ai khati khavaae ||

Your mother and father constantly hug you close in their embrace; in their minds, they believe that you will provide for them and support them.

ਜੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਮੂੜਾ ਦਿਤੇ ਨੋ ਲਪਟਾਏ ॥

जो देवै तिसै न जाणै मूड़ा दिते नो लपटाए ॥

Jo devai tisai na jaa(nn)ai moo(rr)aa dite no lapataae ||

The fool does not know the One who gives; instead, he clings to the gift.

ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਰੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

कोई गुरमुखि होवै सु करै वीचारु हरि धिआवै मनि लिव लाइ ॥

Koee guramukhi hovai su karai veechaaru hari dhiaavai mani liv laai ||

Rare is the Gurmukh who reflects upon, meditates upon, and within his mind, is lovingly attached to the Lord.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥

कहु नानक दूजै पहरै प्राणी तिसु कालु न कबहूं खाइ ॥२॥

Kahu naanak doojai paharai praa(nn)ee tisu kaalu na kabahoonn khaai ||2||

Says Nanak, in the second watch of the night, O mortal, death never devours you. ||2||


ਤੀਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਗਾ ਆਲਿ ਜੰਜਾਲਿ ॥

तीजै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा मनु लगा आलि जंजालि ॥

Teejai paharai rai(nn)i kai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa manu lagaa aali janjjaali ||

In the third watch of the night, O my merchant friend, your mind is entangled in worldly and household affairs.

ਧਨੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਵੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥

धनु चितवै धनु संचवै वणजारिआ मित्रा हरि नामा हरि न समालि ॥

Dhanu chitavai dhanu sancchavai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa hari naamaa hari na samaali ||

You think of wealth, and gather wealth, O my merchant friend, but you do not contemplate the Lord or the Lord's Name.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਸਮਾਲੈ ਜਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥

हरि नामा हरि हरि कदे न समालै जि होवै अंति सखाई ॥

Hari naamaa hari hari kade na samaalai ji hovai antti sakhaaee ||

You never dwell upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, who will be your only Helper and Support in the end.

ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥

इहु धनु स्मपै माइआ झूठी अंति छोडि चलिआ पछुताई ॥

Ihu dhanu samppai maaiaa jhoothee antti chhodi chaliaa pachhutaaee ||

This wealth, property and Maya are false. In the end, you must leave these, and depart in sorrow.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥

जिस नो किरपा करे गुरु मेले सो हरि हरि नामु समालि ॥

Jis no kirapaa kare guru mele so hari hari naamu samaali ||

Those whom the Lord, in His Mercy, unites with the Guru, reflect upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੀਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੇ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੩॥

कहु नानक तीजै पहरै प्राणी से जाइ मिले हरि नालि ॥३॥

Kahu naanak teejai paharai praa(nn)ee se jaai mile hari naali ||3||

Says Nanak, in the third watch of the night, O mortal, they go, and are united with the Lord. ||3||


ਚਉਥੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਚਲਣ ਵੇਲਾ ਆਦੀ ॥

चउथै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा हरि चलण वेला आदी ॥

Chauthai paharai rai(nn)i kai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa hari chala(nn) velaa aadee ||

In the fourth watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the Lord announces the time of departure.

ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਸਭ ਚਲੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਦੀ ॥

करि सेवहु पूरा सतिगुरू वणजारिआ मित्रा सभ चली रैणि विहादी ॥

Kari sevahu pooraa satiguroo va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa sabh chalee rai(nn)i vihaadee ||

Serve the Perfect True Guru, O my merchant friend; your entire life-night is passing away.

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਢਿਲ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਕਰਿਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਹੋਵਹੁ ॥

हरि सेवहु खिनु खिनु ढिल मूलि न करिहु जितु असथिरु जुगु जुगु होवहु ॥

Hari sevahu khinu khinu dhil mooli na karihu jitu asathiru jugu jugu hovahu ||

Serve the Lord each and every instant-do not delay! You shall become eternal throughout the ages.

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਦ ਮਾਣਹੁ ਰਲੀਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਖੋਵਹੁ ॥

हरि सेती सद माणहु रलीआ जनम मरण दुख खोवहु ॥

Hari setee sad maa(nn)ahu raleeaa janam mara(nn) dukh khovahu ||

Enjoy ecstasy forever with the Lord, and do away with the pains of birth and death.

ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਖਾਂਦੀ ॥

गुर सतिगुर सुआमी भेदु न जाणहु जितु मिलि हरि भगति सुखांदी ॥

Gur satigur suaamee bhedu na jaa(nn)ahu jitu mili hari bhagati sukhaandee ||

Know that there is no difference between the Guru, the True Guru, and your Lord and Master. Meeting with Him, take pleasure in the Lord's devotional service.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਚਉਥੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਸਫਲਿਓੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਦੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥

कहु नानक प्राणी चउथै पहरै सफलिओ रैणि भगता दी ॥४॥१॥३॥

Kahu naanak praa(nn)ee chauthai paharai saphaliou rai(nn)i bhagataa dee ||4||1||3||

Says Nanak, O mortal, in the fourth watch of the night, the life-night of the devotee is fruitful. ||4||1||3||

मुंध इआणी पेईअड़ै किउ करि हरि दरसनु पिखै ॥

Munddh iaa(nn)ee peeea(rr)ai kiu kari hari darasanu pikhai ||

How can the ignorant soul-bride obtain the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, while she is in this world of her father's home?

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਖੈ ॥

हरि हरि अपनी किरपा करे गुरमुखि साहुरड़ै कम सिखै ॥

Hari hari apanee kirapaa kare guramukhi saahura(rr)ai kamm sikhai ||

When the Lord Himself grants His Grace, the Gurmukh learns the duties of her Husband's Celestial Home.

ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਕੰਮ ਸਿਖੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਏ ॥

साहुरड़ै कम सिखै गुरमुखि हरि हरि सदा धिआए ॥

Saahura(rr)ai kamm sikhai guramukhi hari hari sadaa dhiaae ||

The Gurmukh learns the duties of her Husband's Celestial Home; she meditates forever on the Lord, Har, Har.

ਸਹੀਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਬਾਹ ਲੁਡਾਏ ॥

सहीआ विचि फिरै सुहेली हरि दरगह बाह लुडाए ॥

Saheeaa vichi phirai suhelee hari daragah baah ludaae ||

She walks happily among her companions, and in the Lord's Court, she swings her arms joyfully.

ਲੇਖਾ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੀ ਬਾਕੀ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਿਰਖੈ ॥

लेखा धरम राइ की बाकी जपि हरि हरि नामु किरखै ॥

Lekhaa dharam raai kee baakee japi hari hari naamu kirakhai ||

Her account is cleared by the Righteous Judge of Dharma, when she chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਮੁੰਧ ਇਆਣੀ ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦਿਖੈ ॥੧॥

मुंध इआणी पेईअड़ै गुरमुखि हरि दरसनु दिखै ॥१॥

Munddh iaa(nn)ee peeea(rr)ai guramukhi hari darasanu dikhai ||1||

The ignorant soul-bride becomes Gurmukh, and gains the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, while she is still in her father's house. ||1||


ਵੀਆਹੁ ਹੋਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੁਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

वीआहु होआ मेरे बाबुला गुरमुखे हरि पाइआ ॥

Veeaahu hoaa mere baabulaa guramukhe hari paaiaa ||

My marriage has been performed, O my father. As Gurmukh, I have found the Lord.

ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਕਟਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡੁ ਬਲਾਇਆ ॥

अगिआनु अंधेरा कटिआ गुर गिआनु प्रचंडु बलाइआ ॥

Agiaanu anddheraa katiaa gur giaanu prchanddu balaaiaa ||

The darkness of ignorance has been dispelled. The Guru has revealed the blazing light of spiritual wisdom.

ਬਲਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਬਿਨਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਲਾਧਾ ॥

बलिआ गुर गिआनु अंधेरा बिनसिआ हरि रतनु पदारथु लाधा ॥

Baliaa gur giaanu anddheraa binasiaa hari ratanu padaarathu laadhaa ||

This spiritual wisdom given by the Guru shines forth, and the darkness has been dispelled. I have found the Priceless Jewel of the Lord.

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ਆਪੁ ਆਪੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਖਾਧਾ ॥

हउमै रोगु गइआ दुखु लाथा आपु आपै गुरमति खाधा ॥

Haumai rogu gaiaa dukhu laathaa aapu aapai guramati khaadhaa ||

The sickness of my ego has been dispelled, and my pain is over and done. Through the Guru's Teachings, my identity has consumed my identical identity.

ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥

अकाल मूरति वरु पाइआ अबिनासी ना कदे मरै न जाइआ ॥

Akaal moorati varu paaiaa abinaasee naa kade marai na jaaiaa ||

I have obtained my Husband Lord, the Akaal Moorat, the Undying Form. He is Imperishable; He shall never die, and He shall never ever leave.

ਵੀਆਹੁ ਹੋਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੋਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

वीआहु होआ मेरे बाबोला गुरमुखे हरि पाइआ ॥२॥

Veeaahu hoaa mere baabolaa guramukhe hari paaiaa ||2||

My marriage has been performed, O my father. As Gurmukh, I have found the Lord. ||2||


ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੁਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੰਞ ਸੁਹੰਦੀ ॥

हरि सति सते मेरे बाबुला हरि जन मिलि जंञ सुहंदी ॥

Hari sati sate mere baabulaa hari jan mili jan(ny) suhanddee ||

The Lord is the Truest of the True, O my father. Meeting with the humble servants of the Lord, the marriage procession looks beautiful.

ਪੇਵਕੜੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਖਰੀ ਸੋਹੰਦੀ ॥

पेवकड़ै हरि जपि सुहेली विचि साहुरड़ै खरी सोहंदी ॥

Pevaka(rr)ai hari japi suhelee vichi saahura(rr)ai kharee sohanddee ||

She who chants the Lord's Name is happy in this world of her father's home, and in the next world of her Husband Lord, she shall be very beautiful.

ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਖਰੀ ਸੋਹੰਦੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੇਵਕੜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿਆ ॥

साहुरड़ै विचि खरी सोहंदी जिनि पेवकड़ै नामु समालिआ ॥

Saahura(rr)ai vichi kharee sohanddee jini pevaka(rr)ai naamu samaaliaa ||

In her Husband Lord's Celestial Home, she shall be most beautiful, if she has remembered the Naam in this world.

ਸਭੁ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਜਿਣਿ ਪਾਸਾ ਢਾਲਿਆ ॥

सभु सफलिओ जनमु तिना दा गुरमुखि जिना मनु जिणि पासा ढालिआ ॥

Sabhu saphalio janamu tinaa daa guramukhi jinaa manu ji(nn)i paasaa dhaaliaa ||

Fruitful are the lives of those who, as Gurmukh, have conquered their minds-they have won the game of life.

ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੋਹਿਆ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਨੰਦੀ ॥

हरि संत जना मिलि कारजु सोहिआ वरु पाइआ पुरखु अनंदी ॥

Hari santt janaa mili kaaraju sohiaa varu paaiaa purakhu ananddee ||

Joining with the humble Saints of the Lord, my actions bring prosperity, and I have obtained the Lord of Bliss as my Husband.

ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੋਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੰਞ ਸੋੁਹੰਦੀ ॥੩॥

हरि सति सति मेरे बाबोला हरि जन मिलि जंञ सोहंदी ॥३॥

Hari sati sati mere baabolaa hari jan mili jan(ny) saohanddee ||3||

The Lord is the Truest of the True, O my father. Joining with the humble servants of the Lord, the marriage party has been embellished. ||3||


ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੁਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੈ ਦਾਜੋ ॥

हरि प्रभु मेरे बाबुला हरि देवहु दानु मै दाजो ॥

Hari prbhu mere baabulaa hari devahu daanu mai daajo ||

O my father, give me the Name of the Lord God as my wedding gift and dowry.

ਹਰਿ ਕਪੜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਵਰੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਾਜੋ ॥

हरि कपड़ो हरि सोभा देवहु जितु सवरै मेरा काजो ॥

Hari kapa(rr)o hari sobhaa devahu jitu savarai meraa kaajo ||

Give me the Lord as my wedding gown, and the Lord as my glory, to accomplish my works.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਾਜੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ॥

हरि हरि भगती काजु सुहेला गुरि सतिगुरि दानु दिवाइआ ॥

Hari hari bhagatee kaaju suhelaa guri satiguri daanu divaaiaa ||

Through devotional worship to the Lord, this ceremony is made blissful and beautiful; the Guru, the True Guru, has given this gift.

ਖੰਡਿ ਵਰਭੰਡਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋਈ ਇਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਨ ਰਲੈ ਰਲਾਇਆ ॥

खंडि वरभंडि हरि सोभा होई इहु दानु न रलै रलाइआ ॥

Khanddi varabhanddi hari sobhaa hoee ihu daanu na ralai ralaaiaa ||

Across the continents, and throughout the Universe, the Lord's Glory is pervading. This gift is not diminished by being diffused among all.

ਹੋਰਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਾਜੁ ਜਿ ਰਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਹਿ ਸੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਕਚੁ ਪਾਜੋ ॥

होरि मनमुख दाजु जि रखि दिखालहि सु कूड़ु अहंकारु कचु पाजो ॥

Hori manamukh daaju ji rakhi dikhaalahi su koo(rr)u ahankkaaru kachu paajo ||

Any other dowry, which the self-willed manmukhs offer for show, is only false egotism and a worthless display.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੁਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੈ ਦਾਜੋ ॥੪॥

हरि प्रभ मेरे बाबुला हरि देवहु दानु मै दाजो ॥४॥

Hari prbh mere baabulaa hari devahu daanu mai daajo ||4||

O my father, please give me the Name of the Lord God as my wedding gift and dowry. ||4||


ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੋਲਾ ਪਿਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਧਨ ਵੇਲ ਵਧੰਦੀ ॥

हरि राम राम मेरे बाबोला पिर मिलि धन वेल वधंदी ॥

Hari raam raam mere baabolaa pir mili dhan vel vadhanddee ||

The Lord, Raam, Raam, is All-pervading, O my father. Meeting her Husband Lord, the soul-bride blossoms forth like the flourishing vine.

ਹਰਿ ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗੋ ਜੁਗ ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗੋ ਸਦ ਪੀੜੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਚਲੰਦੀ ॥

हरि जुगह जुगो जुग जुगह जुगो सद पीड़ी गुरू चलंदी ॥

Hari jugah jugo jug jugah jugo sad pee(rr)ee guroo chalanddee ||

In age after age, through all the ages, forever and ever, those who belong to the Guru's Family shall prosper and increase.

ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਪੀੜੀ ਚਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

जुगि जुगि पीड़ी चलै सतिगुर की जिनी गुरमुखि नामु धिआइआ ॥

Jugi jugi pee(rr)ee chalai satigur kee jinee guramukhi naamu dhiaaiaa ||

Age after age, the Family of the True Guru shall increase. As Gurmukh, they meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਜਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਵੈ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥

हरि पुरखु न कब ही बिनसै जावै नित देवै चड़ै सवाइआ ॥

Hari purakhu na kab hee binasai jaavai nit devai cha(rr)ai savaaiaa ||

The Almighty Lord never dies or goes away. Whatever He gives, keeps on increasing.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੋਹੰਦੀ ॥

नानक संत संत हरि एको जपि हरि हरि नामु सोहंदी ॥

Naanak santt santt hari eko japi hari hari naamu sohanddee ||

O Nanak, the One Lord is the Saint of Saints. Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the soul-bride is bountiful and beautiful.

The Lord, Raam, Raam, is All-pervading, O my father. Meeting her Husband Lord, the soul-bride blossoms forth like the flourishing vine. ||5||1||

Ik-oamkkaari satinaamu guraprsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. By Guru's Grace:

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਤਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

हरि हरि उतमु नामु है जिनि सिरिआ सभु कोइ जीउ ॥

Hari hari utamu naamu hai jini siriaa sabhu koi jeeu ||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is Excellent and Sublime. He created everyone.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਅ ਸਭੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਸੋਇ ॥

हरि जीअ सभे प्रतिपालदा घटि घटि रमईआ सोइ ॥

Hari jeea sabhe prtipaaladaa ghati ghati ramaeeaa soi ||

The Lord cherishes all beings. He permeates each and every heart.

ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

सो हरि सदा धिआईऐ तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥

So hari sadaa dhiaaeeai tisu binu avaru na koi ||

Meditate forever on that Lord. Without Him, there is no other at all.

ਜੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦੇ ਸੇ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥

जो मोहि माइआ चितु लाइदे से छोडि चले दुखु रोइ ॥

Jo mohi maaiaa chitu laaide se chhodi chale dukhu roi ||

Those who focus their consciousness on emotional attachment to Maya must leave; they depart crying out in despair.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

जन नानक नामु धिआइआ हरि अंति सखाई होइ ॥१॥

Jan naanak naamu dhiaaiaa hari antti sakhaaee hoi ||1||

Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, his only Companion in the end. ||1||


ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

मै हरि बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥

Mai hari binu avaru na koi ||

I have none other than You, O Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि गुर सरणाई पाईऐ वणजारिआ मित्रा वडभागि परापति होइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari gur sara(nn)aaee paaeeai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa vadabhaagi paraapati hoi ||1|| rahaau ||

In the Guru's Sanctuary, the Lord is found, O my merchant friend; by great good fortune, He is obtained. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਈਆ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਉ ॥

संत जना विणु भाईआ हरि किनै न पाइआ नाउ ॥

Santt janaa vi(nn)u bhaaeeaa hari kinai na paaiaa naau ||

Without the humble Saints, O Siblings of Destiny, no one has obtained the Lord's Name.

ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਜਿਉ ਵੇਸੁਆ ਪੁਤੁ ਨਿਨਾਉ ॥

विचि हउमै करम कमावदे जिउ वेसुआ पुतु निनाउ ॥

Vichi haumai karam kamaavade jiu vesuaa putu ninaau ||

Those who do their deeds in ego are like the prostitute's son, who has no name.

ਪਿਤਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਤਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਕਰੇ ਪਸਾਉ ॥

पिता जाति ता होईऐ गुरु तुठा करे पसाउ ॥

Pitaa jaati taa hoeeai guru tuthaa kare pasaau ||

The father's status is obtained only if the Guru is pleased and bestows His Favor.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਲਗਾ ਭਾਉ ॥

वडभागी गुरु पाइआ हरि अहिनिसि लगा भाउ ॥

Vadabhaagee guru paaiaa hari ahinisi lagaa bhaau ||

By great good fortune, the Guru is found; embrace love for the Lord, day and night.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਉ ॥੨॥

जन नानकि ब्रहमु पछाणिआ हरि कीरति करम कमाउ ॥२॥

Jan naanaki brhamu pachhaa(nn)iaa hari keerati karam kamaau ||2||

Servant Nanak has realized God; he sings the Lord's Praises through the actions he does. ||2||


ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਗਾ ਚਾਉ ॥

मनि हरि हरि लगा चाउ ॥

Mani hari hari lagaa chaau ||

In my mind there is such a deep yearning for the Lord, Har, Har.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरि पूरै नामु द्रिड़ाइआ हरि मिलिआ हरि प्रभ नाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guri poorai naamu dri(rr)aaiaa hari miliaa hari prbh naau ||1|| rahaau ||

The Perfect Guru has implanted the Naam within me; I have found the Lord through the Lord God's Name. ||1|| Pause ||


ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਸਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

जब लगु जोबनि सासु है तब लगु नामु धिआइ ॥

Jab lagu jobani saasu hai tab lagu naamu dhiaai ||

As long as there is youth and health, meditate on the Naam.

ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਲਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥

चलदिआ नालि हरि चलसी हरि अंते लए छडाइ ॥

Chaladiaa naali hari chalasee hari antte lae chhadaai ||

Along the way, the Lord shall go along with you, and in the end, He shall save you.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਇ ॥

हउ बलिहारी तिन कउ जिन हरि मनि वुठा आइ ॥

Hau balihaaree tin kau jin hari mani vuthaa aai ||

I am a sacrifice to those, within whose minds the Lord has come to dwell.

ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਸੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥

जिनी हरि हरि नामु न चेतिओ से अंति गए पछुताइ ॥

Jinee hari hari naamu na chetio se antti gae pachhutaai ||

Those who have not remembered the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, shall leave with regret in the end.

ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੩॥

धुरि मसतकि हरि प्रभि लिखिआ जन नानक नामु धिआइ ॥३॥

Dhuri masataki hari prbhi likhiaa jan naanak naamu dhiaai ||3||

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny written upon their foreheads, O servant Nanak, meditate on the Naam. ||3||


ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਇ ॥

मन हरि हरि प्रीति लगाइ ॥

Man hari hari preeti lagaai ||

O my mind, embrace love for the Lord, Har, Har.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਲਘਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

वडभागी गुरु पाइआ गुर सबदी पारि लघाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Vadabhaagee guru paaiaa gur sabadee paari laghaai ||1|| rahaau ||

By great good fortune, the Guru is found; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we are carried across to the other side. ||1|| Pause ||


ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਲੇਇ ॥

हरि आपे आपु उपाइदा हरि आपे देवै लेइ ॥

Hari aape aapu upaaidaa hari aape devai lei ||

The Lord Himself creates, He Himself gives and takes away.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥

हरि आपे भरमि भुलाइदा हरि आपे ही मति देइ ॥

Hari aape bharami bhulaaidaa hari aape hee mati dei ||

The Lord Himself leads us astray in doubt; the Lord Himself imparts understanding.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥

गुरमुखा मनि परगासु है से विरले केई केइ ॥

Guramukhaa mani paragaasu hai se virale keee kei ||

The minds of the Gurmukhs are illuminated and enlightened; they are so very rare.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੇ ॥

हउ बलिहारी तिन कउ जिन हरि पाइआ गुरमते ॥

Hau balihaaree tin kau jin hari paaiaa guramate ||

I am a sacrifice to those who find the Lord, through the Guru's Teachings.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਵੁਠੜਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥

जन नानकि कमलु परगासिआ मनि हरि हरि वुठड़ा हे ॥४॥

Jan naanaki kamalu paragaasiaa mani hari hari vutha(rr)aa he ||4||

Servant Nanak's heart-lotus has blossomed forth, and the Lord, Har, Har, has come to dwell in the mind. ||4||


ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੁ ਕਰੇ ॥

मनि हरि हरि जपनु करे ॥

Mani hari hari japanu kare ||

O mind, chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਉ ਜਿੰਦੂ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਪਰਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि गुर सरणाई भजि पउ जिंदू सभ किलविख दुख परहरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari gur sara(nn)aaee bhaji pau jinddoo sabh kilavikh dukh parahare ||1|| rahaau ||

Hurry to the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Guru, O my soul; all your sins shall be taken away. ||1|| Pause ||


ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਿਤੁ ਭਤਿ ॥

घटि घटि रमईआ मनि वसै किउ पाईऐ कितु भति ॥

Ghati ghati ramaeeaa mani vasai kiu paaeeai kitu bhati ||

The All-pervading Lord dwells within each and every person's heart-how can He be obtained?

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਆਇ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ॥

गुरु पूरा सतिगुरु भेटीऐ हरि आइ वसै मनि चिति ॥

Guru pooraa satiguru bheteeai hari aai vasai mani chiti ||

By meeting the Perfect Guru, the True Guru, the Lord comes to dwell within the conscious mind.

ਮੈ ਧਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਤੇ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ॥

मै धर नामु अधारु है हरि नामै ते गति मति ॥

Mai dhar naamu adhaaru hai hari naamai te gati mati ||

The Naam is my Support and Sustenance. From the Lord's Name, I obtain salvation and understanding.

ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਹੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ॥

मै हरि हरि नामु विसाहु है हरि नामे ही जति पति ॥

Mai hari hari naamu visaahu hai hari naame hee jati pati ||

My faith is in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The Lord's Name is my status and honor.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਿ ॥੫॥

जन नानक नामु धिआइआ रंगि रतड़ा हरि रंगि रति ॥५॥

Jan naanak naamu dhiaaiaa ranggi rata(rr)aa hari ranggi rati ||5||

Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He is dyed in the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love. ||5||


ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਤਿ ॥

हरि धिआवहु हरि प्रभु सति ॥

Hari dhiaavahu hari prbhu sati ||

Meditate on the Lord, the True Lord God.

ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਸਭ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੇ ਉਤਪਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर बचनी हरि प्रभु जाणिआ सभ हरि प्रभु ते उतपति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur bachanee hari prbhu jaa(nn)iaa sabh hari prbhu te utapati ||1|| rahaau ||

Through the Guru's Word, you shall come to know the Lord God. From the Lord God, everything was created. ||1|| Pause ||


ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

जिन कउ पूरबि लिखिआ से आइ मिले गुर पासि ॥

Jin kau poorabi likhiaa se aai mile gur paasi ||

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny, come to the Guru and meet Him.

ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿ ॥

सेवक भाइ वणजारिआ मित्रा गुरु हरि हरि नामु प्रगासि ॥

Sevak bhaai va(nn)ajaariaa mitraa guru hari hari naamu prgaasi ||

They love to serve, O my merchant friend, and through the Guru, they are illuminated by the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਵਣਜੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਆ ਜਿਨ ਵਖਰੁ ਲਦਿਅੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

धनु धनु वणजु वापारीआ जिन वखरु लदिअड़ा हरि रासि ॥

Blessed, blessed is the trade of those traders who have loaded the merchandise of the Wealth of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਦਰਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਸੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

गुरमुखा दरि मुख उजले से आइ मिले हरि पासि ॥

Guramukhaa dari mukh ujale se aai mile hari paasi ||

The faces of the Gurmukhs are radiant in the Court of the Lord; they come to the Lord and merge with Him.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਾ ਆਪਿ ਤੁਠਾ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ ॥੬॥

जन नानक गुरु तिन पाइआ जिना आपि तुठा गुणतासि ॥६॥

Jan naanak guru tin paaiaa jinaa aapi tuthaa gu(nn)ataasi ||6||

O servant Nanak, they alone find the Guru, with whom the Lord, the Treasure of Excellence, is pleased. ||6||


ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ॥

हरि धिआवहु सासि गिरासि ॥

Hari dhiaavahu saasi giraasi ||

Meditate on the Lord, with every breath and morsel of food.

ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੧॥

मनि प्रीति लगी तिना गुरमुखा हरि नामु जिना रहरासि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥१॥

Mani preeti lagee tinaa guramukhaa hari naamu jinaa raharaasi ||1|| rahaau ||1||

The Gurmukhs embrace the Love of the Lord in their minds; they are continually occupied with the Lord's Name. ||1|| Pause ||1||

Hari iko karataa iku iko deebaa(nn)u hari ||

The Lord alone is the One Creator; there is only the One Court of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਮਰੁ ਇਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਰਿ ॥

हरि इकसै दा है अमरु इको हरि चिति धरि ॥

Hari ikasai daa hai amaru iko hari chiti dhari ||

The One Lord's Command is the One and Only-enshrine the One Lord in your consciousness.

ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ॥

हरि तिसु बिनु कोई नाहि डरु भ्रमु भउ दूरि करि ॥

Hari tisu binu koee naahi daru bhrmu bhau doori kari ||

Without that Lord, there is no other at all. Remove your fear, doubt and dread.

ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਰਖੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਘਰਿ ॥

हरि तिसै नो सालाहि जि तुधु रखै बाहरि घरि ॥

Hari tisai no saalaahi ji tudhu rakhai baahari ghari ||

Praise that Lord who protects you, inside your home, and outside as well.

ਹਰਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਭਉ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਤਰਿ ॥੧॥

हरि जिस नो होइ दइआलु सो हरि जपि भउ बिखमु तरि ॥१॥

Hari jis no hoi daiaalu so hari japi bhau bikhamu tari ||1||

When that Lord becomes merciful, and one comes to chant the Lord's Name, one swims across the ocean of fear. ||1||

Sabh aape tudhu upaai kai aapi kaarai laaee ||

You Yourself created all; You Yourself delegate the tasks.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

तूं आपे वेखि विगसदा आपणी वडिआई ॥

Toonn aape vekhi vigasadaa aapa(nn)ee vadiaaee ||

You Yourself are pleased, beholding Your Own Glorious Greatness.

ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਈ ॥

हरि तुधहु बाहरि किछु नाही तूं सचा साई ॥

Hari tudhahu baahari kichhu naahee toonn sachaa saaee ||

O Lord, there is nothing at all beyond You. You are the True Lord.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਭਨੀ ਹੀ ਥਾਈ ॥

तूं आपे आपि वरतदा सभनी ही थाई ॥

Toonn aape aapi varatadaa sabhanee hee thaaee ||

You Yourself are contained in all places.

ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਹੁ ਜੋ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੨॥

हरि तिसै धिआवहु संत जनहु जो लए छडाई ॥२॥

Hari tisai dhiaavahu santt janahu jo lae chhadaaee ||2||

Meditate on that Lord, O Saints; He shall rescue and save you. ||2||

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਜੀਐ ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਦੁਇ ਦੀਵੇ ॥

तुधु आपे धरती साजीऐ चंदु सूरजु दुइ दीवे ॥

Tudhu aape dharatee saajeeai chanddu sooraju dui deeve ||

You Yourself created the earth, and the two lamps of the sun and the moon.

ਦਸ ਚਾਰਿ ਹਟ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਕਰੀਵੇ ॥

दस चारि हट तुधु साजिआ वापारु करीवे ॥

Das chaari hat tudhu saajiaa vaapaaru kareeve ||

You created the fourteen world-shops, in which Your Business is transacted.

ਇਕਨਾ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਭੁ ਦੇਇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਥੀਵੇ ॥

इकना नो हरि लाभु देइ जो गुरमुखि थीवे ॥

Ikanaa no hari laabhu dei jo guramukhi theeve ||

The Lord bestows His Profits on those who become Gurmukh.

ਤਿਨ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੇ ॥

तिन जमकालु न विआपई जिन सचु अम्रितु पीवे ॥

Tin jamakaalu na viaapaee jin sachu ammmritu peeve ||

The Messenger of Death does not touch those who drink in the True Ambrosial Nectar.

ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਛੁਟੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਿਉ ਤਿਨ ਪਿਛੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਛੁਟੀਵੇ ॥੩॥

ओइ आपि छुटे परवार सिउ तिन पिछै सभु जगतु छुटीवे ॥३॥

Oi aapi chhute paravaar siu tin pichhai sabhu jagatu chhuteeve ||3||

They themselves are saved, along with their family, and all those who follow them are saved as well. ||3||

Sapat deep sapat saagaraa nav khandd chaari ved das asat puraa(nn)aa ||

The seven islands, seven seas, nine continents, four Vedas and eighteen Puraanas

ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥

हरि सभना विचि तूं वरतदा हरि सभना भाणा ॥

Hari sabhanaa vichi toonn varatadaa hari sabhanaa bhaa(nn)aa ||

O Lord, You pervade and permeate all. Lord, everyone loves You.

ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਰਗ ਪਾਣਾ ॥

सभि तुझै धिआवहि जीअ जंत हरि सारग पाणा ॥

Sabhi tujhai dhiaavahi jeea jantt hari saarag paa(nn)aa ||

All beings and creatures meditate on You, Lord. You hold the earth in Your Hands.

ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ॥

जो गुरमुखि हरि आराधदे तिन हउ कुरबाणा ॥

Jo guramukhi hari aaraadhade tin hau kurabaa(nn)aa ||

I am a sacrifice to those Gurmukhs who worship and adore the Lord.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣਾ ॥੪॥

तूं आपे आपि वरतदा करि चोज विडाणा ॥४॥

Toonn aape aapi varatadaa kari choj vidaa(nn)aa ||4||

You Yourself are All-pervading; You stage this wondrous drama! ||4||

Hari anddari baahari iku toonn toonn jaa(nn)ahi bhetu ||

O Lord, You are inside and outside as well. You are the Knower of secrets.

ਜੋ ਕੀਚੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੁ ॥

जो कीचै सो हरि जाणदा मेरे मन हरि चेतु ॥

Jo keechai so hari jaa(nn)adaa mere man hari chetu ||

Whatever anyone does, the Lord knows. O my mind, think of the Lord.

ਸੋ ਡਰੈ ਜਿ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਵਦਾ ਧਰਮੀ ਵਿਗਸੇਤੁ ॥

सो डरै जि पाप कमावदा धरमी विगसेतु ॥

So darai ji paap kamaavadaa dharamee vigasetu ||

The one who commits sins lives in fear, while the one who lives righteously rejoices.

ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਆਉ ਸਚੁ ਤਾ ਡਰੀਐ ਕੇਤੁ ॥

तूं सचा आपि निआउ सचु ता डरीऐ केतु ॥

Toonn sachaa aapi niaau sachu taa dareeai ketu ||

O Lord, You Yourself are True, and True is Your Justice. Why should anyone be afraid?

ਜਿਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਲੇਤੁ ॥੫॥

जिना नानक सचु पछाणिआ से सचि रलेतु ॥५॥

Jinaa naanak sachu pachhaa(nn)iaa se sachi raletu ||5||

O Nanak, those who recognize the True Lord are blended with the True One. ||5||

Hari kee vadiaaee vadee hai hari keeratanu hari kaa ||

Great is the Greatness of the Lord, and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਹੈ ਧਰਮ ਕਾ ॥

हरि की वडिआई वडी है जा निआउ है धरम का ॥

Hari kee vadiaaee vadee hai jaa niaau hai dharam kaa ||

Great is the Greatness of the Lord; His Justice is totally Righteous.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ॥

हरि की वडिआई वडी है जा फलु है जीअ का ॥

Hari kee vadiaaee vadee hai jaa phalu hai jeea kaa ||

Great is the Greatness of the Lord; people receive the fruits of the soul.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਨ ਸੁਣਈ ਕਹਿਆ ਚੁਗਲ ਕਾ ॥

हरि की वडिआई वडी है जा न सुणई कहिआ चुगल का ॥

Hari kee vadiaaee vadee hai jaa na su(nn)aee kahiaa chugal kaa ||

Great is the Greatness of the Lord; He does not hear the words of the back-biters.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਅਪੁਛਿਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵਕਾ ॥੬॥

हरि की वडिआई वडी है अपुछिआ दानु देवका ॥६॥

Hari kee vadiaaee vadee hai apuchhiaa daanu devakaa ||6||

Great is the Greatness of the Lord; He gives His Gifts without being asked. ||6||

Toonn aape jalu meenaa hai aape aape hee aapi jaalu ||

You Yourself are the water, You Yourself are the fish, and You Yourself are the net.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਲੁ ਵਤਾਇਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੇਬਾਲੁ ॥

तूं आपे जालु वताइदा आपे विचि सेबालु ॥

Toonn aape jaalu vataaidaa aape vichi sebaalu ||

You Yourself cast the net, and You Yourself are the bait.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਮਲੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਹੈ ਸੈ ਹਥਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਗੁਲਾਲੁ ॥

तूं आपे कमलु अलिपतु है सै हथा विचि गुलालु ॥

Toonn aape kamalu alipatu hai sai hathaa vichi gulaalu ||

You Yourself are the lotus, unaffected and still brightly-colored in hundreds of feet of water.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਘੜੀ ਕਰਿ ਖਿਆਲੁ ॥

तूं आपे मुकति कराइदा इक निमख घड़ी करि खिआलु ॥

Toonn aape mukati karaaidaa ik nimakh gha(rr)ee kari khiaalu ||

You Yourself liberate those who think of You for even an instant.

ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥੭॥

हरि तुधहु बाहरि किछु नही गुर सबदी वेखि निहालु ॥७॥

Hari tudhahu baahari kichhu nahee gur sabadee vekhi nihaalu ||7||

O Lord, nothing is beyond You. I am delighted to behold You, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||7||

Sisati upaaee sabh tudhu aape rijaku sambbaahiaa ||

You created the entire universe, and You Yourself bring sustenance to it.

ਇਕਿ ਵਲੁ ਛਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਵਦੇ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਸਤੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਢਾਹਿਆ ॥

इकि वलु छलु करि कै खावदे मुहहु कूड़ु कुसतु तिनी ढाहिआ ॥

Iki valu chhalu kari kai khaavade muhahu koo(rr)u kusatu tinee dhaahiaa ||

Some eat and survive by practicing fraud and deceit; from their mouths they drop falsehood and lies.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਓਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਓਇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

तुधु आपे भावै सो करहि तुधु ओतै कमि ओइ लाइआ ॥

Tudhu aape bhaavai so karahi tudhu otai kammi oi laaiaa ||

As it pleases You, You assign them their tasks.

ਇਕਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਓਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਅਤੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਦੇਵਾਇਆ ॥

इकना सचु बुझाइओनु तिना अतुट भंडार देवाइआ ॥

Ikanaa sachu bujhaaionu tinaa atut bhanddaar devaaiaa ||

Some understand Truthfulness; they are given the inexhaustible treasure.

ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਅਚੇਤਾ ਹਥ ਤਡਾਇਆ ॥੮॥

हरि चेति खाहि तिना सफलु है अचेता हथ तडाइआ ॥८॥

Hari cheti khaahi tinaa saphalu hai achetaa hath tadaaiaa ||8||

Those who eat by remembering the Lord are prosperous, while those who do not remember Him stretch out their hands in need. ||8||

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਸੁ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

Sabhu ko teraa toonn sabhasu daa toonn sabhanaa raasi ||

All are Yours, and You belong to all. You are the wealth of all.

ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

सभि तुधै पासहु मंगदे नित करि अरदासि ॥

Sabhi tudhai paasahu manggade nit kari aradaasi ||

Everyone begs from You, and all offer prayers to You each day.

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕਨਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

जिसु तूं देहि तिसु सभु किछु मिलै इकना दूरि है पासि ॥

Jisu toonn dehi tisu sabhu kichhu milai ikanaa doori hai paasi ||

Those, unto whom You give, receive everything. You are far away from some, and You are close to others.

ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਥਾਉ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋ ਨਿਰਜਾਸਿ ॥

तुधु बाझहु थाउ को नाही जिसु पासहु मंगीऐ मनि वेखहु को निरजासि ॥

Tudhu baajhahu thaau ko naahee jisu paasahu manggeeai mani vekhahu ko nirajaasi ||

Without You, there is not even a place to stand begging. See this yourself and verify it in your mind.

ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਦੇ ਦਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੯॥

सभि तुधै नो सालाहदे दरि गुरमुखा नो परगासि ॥९॥

Sabhi tudhai no saalaahade dari guramukhaa no paragaasi ||9||

All praise You, O Lord; at Your Door, the Gurmukhs are enlightened. ||9||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਥਾਇ ॥

हरि की सेवा सफल है गुरमुखि पावै थाइ ॥

Hari kee sevaa saphal hai guramukhi paavai thaai ||

Service to the Lord is fruitful; through it, the Gurmukh is honored and approved.

ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

जिसु हरि भावै तिसु गुरु मिलै सो हरि नामु धिआइ ॥

Jisu hari bhaavai tisu guru milai so hari naamu dhiaai ||

That person, with whom the Lord is pleased, meets with the Guru, and meditates on the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲਘਾਇ ॥

गुर सबदी हरि पाईऐ हरि पारि लघाइ ॥

Gur sabadee hari paaeeai hari paari laghaai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord is found. The Lord carries us across.

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਵੇਦਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

मनहठि किनै न पाइओ पुछहु वेदा जाइ ॥

Manahathi kinai na paaio puchhahu vedaa jaai ||

Through stubborn-mindedness, none have found Him; go and consult the Vedas on this.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਏ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੦॥

नानक हरि की सेवा सो करे जिसु लए हरि लाइ ॥१०॥

Naanak hari kee sevaa so kare jisu lae hari laai ||10||

O Nanak, he alone serves the Lord, whom the Lord attaches to Himself. ||10||

ਜੋ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਬਾਣ ਸਿਉ ਸੋ ਸਭਨੀ ਦੀਬਾਣੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥

जो मिलिआ हरि दीबाण सिउ सो सभनी दीबाणी मिलिआ ॥

Jo miliaa hari deebaa(nn) siu so sabhanee deebaa(nn)ee miliaa ||

One who is accepted at the Court of the Lord shall be accepted in courts everywhere.

ਜਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਸੁਰਖਰੂ ਉਸ ਕੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਡਿਠੈ ਸਭ ਪਾਪੀ ਤਰਿਆ ॥

जिथै ओहु जाइ तिथै ओहु सुरखरू उस कै मुहि डिठै सभ पापी तरिआ ॥

Jithai ohu jaai tithai ohu surakharoo us kai muhi dithai sabh paapee tariaa ||

Wherever he goes, he is recognized as honorable. Seeing his face, all sinners are saved.

ਓਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਰਵਰਿਆ ॥

ओसु अंतरि नामु निधानु है नामो परवरिआ ॥

Osu anttari naamu nidhaanu hai naamo paravariaa ||

Within him is the Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Through the Naam, he is exalted.

ਨਾਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਨਾਇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭ ਹਿਰਿਆ ॥

नाउ पूजीऐ नाउ मंनीऐ नाइ किलविख सभ हिरिआ ॥

Naau poojeeai naau manneeai naai kilavikh sabh hiriaa ||

He worships the Name, and believes in the Name; the Name erases all his sinful mistakes.

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਸੇ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਜਗਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੧੧॥

जिनी नामु धिआइआ इक मनि इक चिति से असथिरु जगि रहिआ ॥११॥

Jinee naamu dhiaaiaa ik mani ik chiti se asathiru jagi rahiaa ||11||

Those who meditate on the Name, with one-pointed mind and focused consciousness, remain forever stable in the world. ||11||

हरि के संत सुणहु जन भाई हरि सतिगुर की इक साखी ॥

Hari ke santt su(nn)ahu jan bhaaee hari satigur kee ik saakhee ||

O Saints of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny, listen, and hear the Lord's Teachings, through the True Guru.

ਜਿਸੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਲੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਖੀ ॥

जिसु धुरि भागु होवै मुखि मसतकि तिनि जनि लै हिरदै राखी ॥

Jisu dhuri bhaagu hovai mukhi masataki tini jani lai hiradai raakhee ||

Those who have good destiny pre-ordained and inscribed on their foreheads, grasp it and keep it enshrined in the heart.

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਥਾ ਸਰੇਸਟ ਊਤਮ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਚਾਖੀ ॥

हरि अम्रित कथा सरेसट ऊतम गुर बचनी सहजे चाखी ॥

Hari ammmrit kathaa saresat utam gur bachanee sahaje chaakhee ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, they intuitively taste the sublime, exquisite and ambrosial sermon of the Lord.

ਤਹ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ਜਿਉ ਸੂਰਜ ਰੈਣਿ ਕਿਰਾਖੀ ॥

तह भइआ प्रगासु मिटिआ अंधिआरा जिउ सूरज रैणि किराखी ॥

Tah bhaiaa prgaasu mitiaa anddhiaaraa jiu sooraj rai(nn)i kiraakhee ||

The Divine Light shines in their hearts, and like the sun which removes the darkness of night, it dispels the darkness of ignorance.

ਅਦਿਸਟੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੀ ॥੧੨॥

अदिसटु अगोचरु अलखु निरंजनु सो देखिआ गुरमुखि आखी ॥१२॥

Adisatu agocharu alakhu niranjjanu so dekhiaa guramukhi aakhee ||12||

As Gurmukh, they behold with their eyes the Unseen, Imperceptible, Unknowable, Immaculate Lord. ||12||

Hari hari naamu japahu man mere jitu sadaa sukhu hovai dinu raatee ||

Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; it will bring you eternal peace, day and night.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਲਹਾਤੀ ॥

हरि हरि नामु जपहु मन मेरे जितु सिमरत सभि किलविख पाप लहाती ॥

Hari hari naamu japahu man mere jitu simarat sabhi kilavikh paap lahaatee ||

Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; meditating on it, all sins and misdeeds shall be erased.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥

हरि हरि नामु जपहु मन मेरे जितु दालदु दुख भुख सभ लहि जाती ॥

Hari hari naamu japahu man mere jitu daaladu dukh bhukh sabh lahi jaatee ||

Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; through it, all poverty, pain and hunger shall be removed.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਤੀ ॥

हरि हरि नामु जपहु मन मेरे मुखि गुरमुखि प्रीति लगाती ॥

Hari hari naamu japahu man mere mukhi guramukhi preeti lagaatee ||

Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; as Gurmukh, declare your love.

ਜਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਤੀ ॥੧੩॥

जितु मुखि भागु लिखिआ धुरि साचै हरि तितु मुखि नामु जपाती ॥१३॥

Jitu mukhi bhaagu likhiaa dhuri saachai hari titu mukhi naamu japaatee ||13||

One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead by the True Lord, chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||13||

Satiguru jinee dhiaaiaa se ka(rr)i na savaahee ||

Those who meditate on the True Guru shall not be burnt to ashes.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਹੀ ॥

सतिगुरु जिनी धिआइआ से त्रिपति अघाही ॥

Satiguru jinee dhiaaiaa se tripati aghaahee ||

Those who meditate on the True Guru are satisfied and fulfilled.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਜਮ ਡਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

सतिगुरु जिनी धिआइआ तिन जम डरु नाही ॥

Satiguru jinee dhiaaiaa tin jam daru naahee ||

Those who meditate on the True Guru are not afraid of the Messenger of Death.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਹੋਆ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹੀ ॥

जिन कउ होआ क्रिपालु हरि से सतिगुर पैरी पाही ॥

Jin kau hoaa kripaalu hari se satigur pairee paahee ||

Those upon whom the Lord showers His Mercy, fall at the Feet of the True Guru.

ਤਿਨ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੧੪॥

तिन ऐथै ओथै मुख उजले हरि दरगह पैधे जाही ॥१४॥

Tin aithai othai mukh ujale hari daragah paidhe jaahee ||14||

Here and hereafter, their faces are radiant; they go to the Lord's Court in robes of honor. ||14||

सो ऐसा हरि नामु धिआईऐ मन मेरे जो सभना उपरि हुकमु चलाए ॥

So aisaa hari naamu dhiaaeeai man mere jo sabhanaa upari hukamu chalaae ||

Meditate on that Name of the Lord, O my mind, whose Command rules over all.

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋ ਅੰਤੀ ਅਉਸਰਿ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਏ ॥

सो ऐसा हरि नामु जपीऐ मन मेरे जो अंती अउसरि लए छडाए ॥

So aisaa hari naamu japeeai man mere jo anttee ausari lae chhadaae ||

Chant that Name of the Lord, O my mind, which will save you at the very last moment.

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

सो ऐसा हरि नामु जपीऐ मन मेरे जु मन की त्रिसना सभ भुख गवाए ॥

So aisaa hari naamu japeeai man mere ju man kee trisanaa sabh bhukh gavaae ||

Chant that Name of the Lord, O my mind, which shall drive out all hunger and desire from your mind.

ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੁਸਟ ਸਭਿ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਏ ॥

सो गुरमुखि नामु जपिआ वडभागी तिन निंदक दुसट सभि पैरी पाए ॥

So guramukhi naamu japiaa vadabhaagee tin ninddak dusat sabhi pairee paae ||

Very fortunate and blessed is that Gurmukh who chants the Naam; it shall bring all slanderers and wicked enemies to fall at his feet.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਸਭਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਅਗੈ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਵਾਏ ॥੧੫॥

नानक नामु अराधि सभना ते वडा सभि नावै अगै आणि निवाए ॥१५॥

Naanak naamu araadhi sabhanaa te vadaa sabhi naavai agai aa(nn)i nivaae ||15||

O Nanak, worship and adore the Naam, the Greatest Name of all, before which all come and bow. ||15||

ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ॥

हरि जलि थलि महीअलि भरपूरि दूजा नाहि कोइ ॥

Hari jali thali maheeali bharapoori doojaa naahi koi ||

The Lord pervades and permeates the water, the land and the sky; there is no other at all.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਸਭ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੋਇ ॥

हरि आपि बहि करे निआउ कूड़िआर सभ मारि कढोइ ॥

Hari aapi bahi kare niaau koo(rr)iaar sabh maari kadhoi ||

The Lord Himself sits upon His Throne and administers justice. He beats and drives out the false-hearted.

ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਆਉ ਕੀਓਇ ॥

सचिआरा देइ वडिआई हरि धरम निआउ कीओइ ॥

Sachiaaraa dei vadiaaee hari dharam niaau keeoi ||

The Lord bestows glorious greatness upon those who are truthful. He administers righteous justice.

ਸਭ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਗਰੀਬ ਅਨਾਥ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਓਇ ॥

सभ हरि की करहु उसतति जिनि गरीब अनाथ राखि लीओइ ॥

Sabh hari kee karahu usatati jini gareeb anaath raakhi leeoi ||

So praise the Lord, everybody; He protects the poor and the lost souls.

ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਧਰਮੀਆ ਕਾ ਪਾਪੀ ਕਉ ਡੰਡੁ ਦੀਓਇ ॥੧੬॥

जैकारु कीओ धरमीआ का पापी कउ डंडु दीओइ ॥१६॥

Jaikaaru keeo dharameeaa kaa paapee kau danddu deeoi ||16||

He honors the righteous and punishes the sinners. ||16||


ਪਉੜੀ ॥

ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਫਾਥੇ ਕਾਢਿਆ ॥

हरि तेरी सभ करहि उसतति जिनि फाथे काढिआ ॥

Hari teree sabh karahi usatati jini phaathe kaadhiaa ||

Lord, everyone sings Your Praises. You have freed us from bondage.

ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਭ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਪੈ ਤੇ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥

हरि तुधनो करहि सभ नमसकारु जिनि पापै ते राखिआ ॥

Hari tudhano karahi sabh namasakaaru jini paapai te raakhiaa ||

Lord, everyone bows in reverence to You. You have saved us from our sinful ways.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਡਾਢੀ ਹੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਡਾਢਿਆ ॥

हरि निमाणिआ तूं माणु हरि डाढी हूं तूं डाढिआ ॥

Hari nimaa(nn)iaa toonn maa(nn)u hari daadhee hoonn toonn daadhiaa ||

Lord, You are the Honor of the dishonored. Lord, You are the Strongest of the strong.

ਹਰਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਏ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂੜ ਸਾਧਿਆ ॥

हरि अहंकारीआ मारि निवाए मनमुख मूड़ साधिआ ॥

Hari ahankkaareeaa maari nivaae manamukh moo(rr) saadhiaa ||

The Lord beats down the egocentrics and corrects the foolish, self-willed manmukhs.

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗਰੀਬ ਅਨਾਥਿਆ ॥੧੭॥

हरि भगता देइ वडिआई गरीब अनाथिआ ॥१७॥

Hari bhagataa dei vadiaaee gareeb anaathiaa ||17||

The Lord bestows glorious greatness on His devotees, the poor, and the lost souls. ||17||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਾ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ॥

Hari kee bhagataa parateeti hari sabh kichhu jaa(nn)adaa ||

The Lord's devotees have faith in Him. The Lord knows everything.

ਹਰਿ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਦਾ ॥

हरि जेवडु नाही कोई जाणु हरि धरमु बीचारदा ॥

Hari jevadu naahee koee jaa(nn)u hari dharamu beechaaradaa ||

No one is as great a Knower as the Lord; the Lord administers righteous justice.

ਕਾੜਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਕਿਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਧਰਮਿ ਮਾਰਦਾ ॥

काड़ा अंदेसा किउ कीजै जा नाही अधरमि मारदा ॥

Kaa(rr)aa anddesaa kiu keejai jaa naahee adharami maaradaa ||

Why should we feel any burning anxiety, since the Lord does not punish without just cause?

ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਆਉ ਪਾਪੀ ਨਰੁ ਹਾਰਦਾ ॥

सचा साहिबु सचु निआउ पापी नरु हारदा ॥

Sachaa saahibu sachu niaau paapee naru haaradaa ||

True is the Master, and True is His Justice; only the sinners are defeated.

ਸਾਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਭਗਤਹੁ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਤਾਰਦਾ ॥੧੮॥

सालाहिहु भगतहु कर जोड़ि हरि भगत जन तारदा ॥१८॥

Saalaahihu bhagatahu kar jo(rr)i hari bhagat jan taaradaa ||18||

O devotees, praise the Lord with your palms pressed together; the Lord saves His humble devotees. ||18||


ਪਉੜੀ ॥

ਹਰਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖਾਲੀਅਨੁ ॥

हरि आपणी भगति कराइ वडिआई वेखालीअनु ॥

Hari aapa(nn)ee bhagati karaai vadiaaee vekhaaleeanu ||

The Lord Himself inspires us to worship Him; He reveals His Glorious Greatness.

ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਘਾਲੀਅਨੁ ॥

आपणी आपि करे परतीति आपे सेव घालीअनु ॥

Aapa(nn)ee aapi kare parateeti aape sev ghaaleeanu ||

He Himself inspires us to place our faith in Him. Thus He performs His Own Service.

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਘਰੀ ਬਹਾਲਿਅਨੁ ॥

हरि भगता नो देइ अनंदु थिरु घरी बहालिअनु ॥

Hari bhagataa no dei ananddu thiru gharee bahaalianu ||

The Lord bestows bliss upon His devotees, and gives them a seat in the eternal home.

ਪਾਪੀਆ ਨੋ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹਣਿ ਚੁਣਿ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰਿ ਚਾਲਿਅਨੁ ॥

पापीआ नो न देई थिरु रहणि चुणि नरक घोरि चालिअनु ॥

Paapeeaa no na deee thiru raha(nn)i chu(nn)i narak ghori chaalianu ||

He does not give the sinners any stability or place of rest; He consigns them to the depths of hell.

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਅੰਗੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਅਨੁ ॥੧੯॥

हरि भगता नो देइ पिआरु करि अंगु निसतारिअनु ॥१९॥

Hari bhagataa no dei piaaru kari anggu nisataarianu ||19||

The Lord blesses His devotees with His Love; He sides with them and saves them. ||19||

ਕੀਤਾ ਲੋੜੀਐ ਕੰਮੁ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਆਖੀਐ ॥

Keetaa lo(rr)eeai kammu su hari pahi aakheeai ||

Whatever work you wish to accomplish-tell it to the Lord.

ਕਾਰਜੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਖੀਐ ॥

कारजु देइ सवारि सतिगुर सचु साखीऐ ॥

He will resolve your affairs; the True Guru gives His Guarantee of Truth.

ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖੀਐ ॥

संता संगि निधानु अम्रितु चाखीऐ ॥

Santtaa sanggi nidhaanu ammmritu chaakheeai ||

In the Society of the Saints, you shall taste the treasure of the Ambrosial Nectar.

ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੀਐ ॥

भै भंजन मिहरवान दास की राखीऐ ॥

Bhai bhanjjan miharavaan daas kee raakheeai ||

The Lord is the Merciful Destroyer of fear; He preserves and protects His slaves.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਅਲਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਾਖੀਐ ॥੨੦॥

नानक हरि गुण गाइ अलखु प्रभु लाखीऐ ॥२०॥

Naanak hari gu(nn) gaai alakhu prbhu laakheeai ||20||

O Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and see the Unseen Lord God. ||20||

ਹਉ ਢਾਢੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

हउ ढाढी हरि प्रभ खसम का हरि कै दरि आइआ ॥

Hau dhaadhee hari prbh khasam kaa hari kai dari aaiaa ||

I am a minstrel of the Lord God, my Lord and Master; I have come to the Lord's Door.

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਪੂਕਾਰ ਢਾਢੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

हरि अंदरि सुणी पूकार ढाढी मुखि लाइआ ॥

Hari anddari su(nn)ee pookaar dhaadhee mukhi laaiaa ||

The Lord has heard my sad cries from within; He has called me, His minstrel, into His Presence.

ਹਰਿ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਢਾਢੀ ਸਦਿ ਕੈ ਕਿਤੁ ਅਰਥਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ॥

हरि पुछिआ ढाढी सदि कै कितु अरथि तूं आइआ ॥

Hari puchhiaa dhaadhee sadi kai kitu arathi toonn aaiaa ||

The Lord called His minstrel in, and asked, ""Why have you come here?""

ਨਿਤ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

नित देवहु दानु दइआल प्रभ हरि नामु धिआइआ ॥

Nit devahu daanu daiaal prbh hari naamu dhiaaiaa ||

"O Merciful God, please grant me the gift of continual meditation on the Lord's Name."

ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪੈਨਾਇਆ ॥੨੧॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ

हरि दातै हरि नामु जपाइआ नानकु पैनाइआ ॥२१॥१॥ सुधु

Hari daatai hari naamu japaaiaa naanaku painaaiaa ||21||1|| sudhu

And so the Lord, the Great Giver, inspired Nanak to chant the Lord's Name, and blessed him with robes of honor. ||21||1|| Sudh ||

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिनामु करता पुरखु निरभउ निरवैरु अकाल मूरति अजूनी सैभं गुरप्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satinaamu karataa purakhu nirabhau niravairu akaal moorati ajoonee saibhann guraprsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. The Name Is Truth. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying Beyond Birth Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace:

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

हरि हरि नामु मै हरि मनि भाइआ ॥

Hari hari naamu mai hari mani bhaaiaa ||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

वडभागी हरि नामु धिआइआ ॥

Vadabhaagee hari naamu dhiaaiaa ||

By great good fortune, I meditate on the Lord's Name.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਚਲੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

गुरि पूरै हरि नाम सिधि पाई को विरला गुरमति चलै जीउ ॥१॥

Guri poorai hari naam sidhi paaee ko viralaa guramati chalai jeeu ||1||

The Perfect Guru has attained spiritual perfection in the Name of the Lord. How rare are those who follow the Guru's Teachings. ||1||


ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਖਰਚੁ ਲਇਆ ਬੰਨਿ ਪਲੈ ॥

मै हरि हरि खरचु लइआ बंनि पलै ॥

Mai hari hari kharachu laiaa banni palai ||

I have loaded my pack with the provisions of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਸਖਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ॥

मेरा प्राण सखाई सदा नालि चलै ॥

Meraa praa(nn) sakhaaee sadaa naali chalai ||

The Companion of my breath of life shall always be with me.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

गुरि पूरै हरि नामु दिड़ाइआ हरि निहचलु हरि धनु पलै जीउ ॥२॥

Guri poorai hari naamu di(rr)aaiaa hari nihachalu hari dhanu palai jeeu ||2||

The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord's Name within me. I have the Imperishable Treasure of the Lord in my lap. ||2||


ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਰਾਇਆ ॥

हरि हरि सजणु मेरा प्रीतमु राइआ ॥

Hari hari saja(nn)u meraa preetamu raaiaa ||

The Lord, Har, Har, is my Best Friend; He is my Beloved Lord King.

ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਜੀਵਾਇਆ ॥

कोई आणि मिलावै मेरे प्राण जीवाइआ ॥

Koee aa(nn)i milaavai mere praa(nn) jeevaaiaa ||

If only someone would come and introduce me to Him, the Rejuvenator of my breath of life.

ਹਉ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਮੈ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਹੇ ਵਹਿ ਚਲੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

हउ रहि न सका बिनु देखे प्रीतमा मै नीरु वहे वहि चलै जीउ ॥३॥

Hau rahi na sakaa binu dekhe preetamaa mai neeru vahe vahi chalai jeeu ||3||

I cannot survive without seeing my Beloved. My eyes are welling up with tears. ||3||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਬਾਲ ਸਖਾਈ ॥

सतिगुरु मित्रु मेरा बाल सखाई ॥

Satiguru mitru meraa baal sakhaaee ||

My Friend, the True Guru, has been my Best Friend since I was very young.

ਹਉ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੇਖੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

हउ रहि न सका बिनु देखे मेरी माई ॥

Hau rahi na sakaa binu dekhe meree maaee ||

I cannot survive without seeing Him, O my mother!

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧॥

हरि जीउ क्रिपा करहु गुरु मेलहु जन नानक हरि धनु पलै जीउ ॥४॥१॥

Hari jeeu kripaa karahu guru melahu jan naanak hari dhanu palai jeeu ||4||1||

O Dear Lord, please show Mercy to me, that I may meet the Guru. Servant Nanak gathers the Wealth of the Lord's Name in his lap. ||4||1||


ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

माझ महला ४ ॥

Maajh mahalaa 4 ||

Maajh, Fourth Mehl:

ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥

मधुसूदन मेरे मन तन प्राना ॥

Madhusoodan mere man tan praanaa ||

The Lord is my mind, body and breath of life.

ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥

हउ हरि बिनु दूजा अवरु न जाना ॥

Hau hari binu doojaa avaru na jaanaa ||

I do not know any other than the Lord.

ਕੋਈ ਸਜਣੁ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਦਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

कोई सजणु संतु मिलै वडभागी मै हरि प्रभु पिआरा दसै जीउ ॥१॥

Koee saja(nn)u santtu milai vadabhaagee mai hari prbhu piaaraa dasai jeeu ||1||

If only I could have the good fortune to meet some friendly Saint; he might show me the Way to my Beloved Lord God. ||1||


ਹਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਖੋਜੀ ਭਾਲਿ ਭਾਲਾਈ ॥

हउ मनु तनु खोजी भालि भालाई ॥

Hau manu tanu khojee bhaali bhaalaaee ||

I have searched my mind and body, through and through.

ਕਿਉ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

किउ पिआरा प्रीतमु मिलै मेरी माई ॥

Kiu piaaraa preetamu milai meree maaee ||

How can I meet my Darling Beloved, O my mother?

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਖੋਜੁ ਦਸਾਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

मिलि सतसंगति खोजु दसाई विचि संगति हरि प्रभु वसै जीउ ॥२॥

Mili satasanggati khoju dasaaee vichi sanggati hari prbhu vasai jeeu ||2||

Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I ask about the Path to God. In that Congregation, the Lord God abides. ||2||


ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥

मेरा पिआरा प्रीतमु सतिगुरु रखवाला ॥

Meraa piaaraa preetamu satiguru rakhavaalaa ||

My Darling Beloved True Guru is my Protector.

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਦੀਨ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥

हम बारिक दीन करहु प्रतिपाला ॥

Ham baarik deen karahu prtipaalaa ||

I am a helpless child-please cherish me.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਜਲ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

मेरा मात पिता गुरु सतिगुरु पूरा गुर जल मिलि कमलु विगसै जीउ ॥३॥

Meraa maat pitaa guru satiguru pooraa gur jal mili kamalu vigasai jeeu ||3||

The Guru, the Perfect True Guru, is my Mother and Father. Obtaining the Water of the Guru, the lotus of my heart blossoms forth. ||3||


ਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

मै बिनु गुर देखे नीद न आवै ॥

Mai binu gur dekhe need na aavai ||

Without seeing my Guru, sleep does not come.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਨਿ ਵੇਦਨ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥

मेरे मन तनि वेदन गुर बिरहु लगावै ॥

Mere man tani vedan gur birahu lagaavai ||

My mind and body are afflicted with the pain of separation from the Guru.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਸੈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨॥

हरि हरि दइआ करहु गुरु मेलहु जन नानक गुर मिलि रहसै जीउ ॥४॥२॥

Hari hari daiaa karahu guru melahu jan naanak gur mili rahasai jeeu ||4||2||

O Lord, Har, Har, show mercy to me, that I may meet my Guru. Meeting the Guru, servant Nanak blossoms forth. ||4||2||
