आदि सचु जुगादि सचु ॥

Âađi sachu jugaađi sachu ||

True In The Primal Beginning. True Throughout The Ages.

ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥

है भी सचु नानक होसी भी सचु ॥१॥

Hai bhee sachu naanak hosee bhee sachu ||1||

True Here And Now. O Nanak, Forever And Ever True. ||1||


ਸੋਚੈ ਸੋਚਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸੋਚੀ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ ॥

सोचै सोचि न होवई जे सोची लख वार ॥

Sochai sochi na hovaëe je sochee lakh vaar ||

By thinking, He cannot be reduced to thought, even by thinking hundreds of thousands of times.

ਚੁਪੈ ਚੁਪ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਲਾਇ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ ॥

चुपै चुप न होवई जे लाइ रहा लिव तार ॥

Chupai chup na hovaëe je laaī rahaa liv ŧaar ||

By remaining silent, inner silence is not obtained, even by remaining lovingly absorbed deep within.

ਭੁਖਿਆ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਉਤਰੀ ਜੇ ਬੰਨਾ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਭਾਰ ॥

भुखिआ भुख न उतरी जे बंना पुरीआ भार ॥

Bhukhiâa bhukh na ūŧaree je bannaa pureeâa bhaar ||

The hunger of the hungry is not appeased, even by piling up loads of worldly goods.

ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਲਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਤ ਇਕ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

सहस सिआणपा लख होहि त इक न चलै नालि ॥

Sahas siâañapaa lakh hohi ŧa īk na chalai naali ||

Hundreds of thousands of clever tricks, but not even one of them will go along with you in the end.

ਕਿਵ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਿਵ ਕੂੜੈ ਤੁਟੈ ਪਾਲਿ ॥

किव सचिआरा होईऐ किव कूड़ै तुटै पालि ॥

Kiv sachiâaraa hoëeâi kiv kooɍai ŧutai paali ||

So how can you become truthful? And how can the veil of illusion be torn away?

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

हुकमि रजाई चलणा नानक लिखिआ नालि ॥१॥

Hukami rajaaëe chalañaa naanak likhiâa naali ||1||

O Nanak, it is written that you shall obey the Hukam of His Command, and walk in the Way of His Will. ||1||


ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਆਕਾਰ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥

हुकमी होवनि आकार हुकमु न कहिआ जाई ॥

Hukamee hovani âakaar hukamu na kahiâa jaaëe ||

By His Command, bodies are created; His Command cannot be described.

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਜੀਅ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

हुकमी होवनि जीअ हुकमि मिलै वडिआई ॥

Hukamee hovani jeeâ hukami milai vadiâaëe ||

By His Command, souls come into being; by His Command, glory and greatness are obtained.

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਉਤਮੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ॥

हुकमी उतमु नीचु हुकमि लिखि दुख सुख पाईअहि ॥

Hukamee ūŧamu neechu hukami likhi đukh sukh paaëeâhi ||

By His Command, some are high and some are low; by His Written Command, pain and pleasure are obtained.

ਇਕਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਇਕਿ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਦਾ ਭਵਾਈਅਹਿ ॥

इकना हुकमी बखसीस इकि हुकमी सदा भवाईअहि ॥

Īkanaa hukamee bakhasees īki hukamee sađaa bhavaaëeâhi ||

Some, by His Command, are blessed and forgiven; others, by His Command, wander aimlessly forever.

ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹੁਕਮ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

हुकमै अंदरि सभु को बाहरि हुकम न कोइ ॥

Hukamai ânđđari sabhu ko baahari hukam na koī ||

Everyone is subject to His Command; no one is beyond His Command.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਜੇ ਬੁਝੈ ਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥

नानक हुकमै जे बुझै त हउमै कहै न कोइ ॥२॥

Naanak hukamai je bujhai ŧa haūmai kahai na koī ||2||

O Nanak, one who understands His Command, does not speak in ego. ||2||


ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਤਾਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਤਾਣੁ ॥

गावै को ताणु होवै किसै ताणु ॥

Gaavai ko ŧaañu hovai kisai ŧaañu ||

Some sing of His Power-who has that Power?

ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

गावै को दाति जाणै नीसाणु ॥

Gaavai ko đaaŧi jaañai neesaañu ||

Some sing of His Gifts, and know His Sign and Insignia.

ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਗੁਣ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਚਾਰ ॥

गावै को गुण वडिआईआ चार ॥

Gaavai ko guñ vadiâaëeâa chaar ||

Some sing of His Glorious Virtues, Greatness and Beauty.

ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵਿਖਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

गावै को विदिआ विखमु वीचारु ॥

Gaavai ko viđiâa vikhamu veechaaru ||

Some sing of knowledge obtained of Him, through difficult philosophical studies.

ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸਾਜਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਨੁ ਖੇਹ ॥

गावै को साजि करे तनु खेह ॥

Gaavai ko saaji kare ŧanu kheh ||

Some sing that He fashions the body, and then again reduces it to dust.

ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਜੀਅ ਲੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੇਹ ॥

गावै को जीअ लै फिरि देह ॥

Gaavai ko jeeâ lai phiri đeh ||

Some sing that He takes life away, and then again restores it.

ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਜਾਪੈ ਦਿਸੈ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

गावै को जापै दिसै दूरि ॥

Gaavai ko jaapai đisai đoori ||

Some sing that He seems so very far away.

ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਾਦਰਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

गावै को वेखै हादरा हदूरि ॥

Gaavai ko vekhai haađaraa hađoori ||

Some sing that He watches over us, face to face, ever-present.

ਕਥਨਾ ਕਥੀ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੋਟਿ ॥

कथना कथी न आवै तोटि ॥

Kaŧhanaa kaŧhee na âavai ŧoti ||

There is no shortage of those who preach and teach.

ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਕਥੀ ਕੋਟੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ॥

कथि कथि कथी कोटी कोटि कोटि ॥

Kaŧhi kaŧhi kaŧhee kotee koti koti ||

Millions upon millions offer millions of sermons and stories.

ਦੇਦਾ ਦੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਥਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

देदा दे लैदे थकि पाहि ॥

Đeđaa đe laiđe ŧhaki paahi ||

The Great Giver keeps on giving, while those who receive grow weary of receiving.

ਜੁਗਾ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਖਾਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

जुगा जुगंतरि खाही खाहि ॥

Jugaa juganŧŧari khaahee khaahi ||

Throughout the ages, consumers consume.

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਰਾਹੁ ॥

हुकमी हुकमु चलाए राहु ॥

Hukamee hukamu chalaaē raahu ||

The Commander, by His Command, leads us to walk on the Path.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੩॥

नानक विगसै वेपरवाहु ॥३॥

Naanak vigasai veparavaahu ||3||

O Nanak, He blossoms forth, Carefree and Untroubled. ||3||


ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਇ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥

साचा साहिबु साचु नाइ भाखिआ भाउ अपारु ॥

Saachaa saahibu saachu naaī bhaakhiâa bhaaū âpaaru ||

True is the Master, True is His Name-speak it with infinite love.

ਆਖਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥

आखहि मंगहि देहि देहि दाति करे दातारु ॥

Âakhahi manggahi đehi đehi đaaŧi kare đaaŧaaru ||

People beg and pray, ""Give to us, give to us"", and the Great Giver gives His Gifts.

ਫੇਰਿ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਰਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥

फेरि कि अगै रखीऐ जितु दिसै दरबारु ॥

Pheri ki âgai rakheeâi jiŧu đisai đarabaaru ||

So what offering can we place before Him, by which we might see the Darbaar of His Court?

ਮੁਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

मुहौ कि बोलणु बोलीऐ जितु सुणि धरे पिआरु ॥

Muhau ki bolañu boleeâi jiŧu suñi đhare piâaru ||

What words can we speak to evoke His Love?

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

अम्रित वेला सचु नाउ वडिआई वीचारु ॥

Âmmmriŧ velaa sachu naaū vadiâaëe veechaaru ||

In the Amrit Vaylaa, the ambrosial hours before dawn, chant the True Name, and contemplate His Glorious Greatness.

ਕਰਮੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਪੜਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

करमी आवै कपड़ा नदरी मोखु दुआरु ॥

Karamee âavai kapaɍaa nađaree mokhu đuâaru ||

By the karma of past actions, the robe of this physical body is obtained. By His Grace, the Gate of Liberation is found.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥

नानक एवै जाणीऐ सभु आपे सचिआरु ॥४॥

Naanak ēvai jaañeeâi sabhu âape sachiâaru ||4||

O Nanak, know this well: the True One Himself is All. ||4||


ਥਾਪਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

थापिआ न जाइ कीता न होइ ॥

Ŧhaapiâa na jaaī keeŧaa na hoī ||

He cannot be established, He cannot be created.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

आपे आपि निरंजनु सोइ ॥

Âape âapi niranjjanu soī ||

He Himself is Immaculate and Pure.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

जिनि सेविआ तिनि पाइआ मानु ॥

Jini seviâa ŧini paaīâa maanu ||

Those who serve Him are honored.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਵੀਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥

नानक गावीऐ गुणी निधानु ॥

Naanak gaaveeâi guñee niđhaanu ||

O Nanak, sing of the Lord, the Treasure of Excellence.

ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ ॥

गावीऐ सुणीऐ मनि रखीऐ भाउ ॥

Gaaveeâi suñeeâi mani rakheeâi bhaaū ||

Sing, and listen, and let your mind be filled with love.

ਦੁਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

दुखु परहरि सुखु घरि लै जाइ ॥

Đukhu parahari sukhu ghari lai jaaī ||

Your pain shall be sent far away, and peace shall come to your home.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਦੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

गुरमुखि नादं गुरमुखि वेदं गुरमुखि रहिआ समाई ॥

Guramukhi naađann guramukhi veđann guramukhi rahiâa samaaëe ||

The Guru's Word is the Sound-current of the Naad; the Guru's Word is the Wisdom of the Vedas; the Guru's Word is all-pervading.

ਗੁਰੁ ਈਸਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

गुरु ईसरु गुरु गोरखु बरमा गुरु पारबती माई ॥

Guru ëesaru guru gorakhu baramaa guru paarabaŧee maaëe ||

The Guru is Shiva, the Guru is Vishnu and Brahma; the Guru is Paarvati and Lakhshmi.

ਜੇ ਹਉ ਜਾਣਾ ਆਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

जे हउ जाणा आखा नाही कहणा कथनु न जाई ॥

Je haū jaañaa âakhaa naahee kahañaa kaŧhanu na jaaëe ||

Even knowing God, I cannot describe Him; He cannot be described in words.

ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥

गुरा इक देहि बुझाई ॥

Guraa īk đehi bujhaaëe ||

The Guru has given me this one understanding:

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥

सभना जीआ का इकु दाता सो मै विसरि न जाई ॥५॥

Sabhanaa jeeâa kaa īku đaaŧaa so mai visari na jaaëe ||5||

There is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him! ||5||


ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਕਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਰੀ ॥

तीरथि नावा जे तिसु भावा विणु भाणे कि नाइ करी ॥

Ŧeeraŧhi naavaa je ŧisu bhaavaa viñu bhaañe ki naaī karee ||

If I am pleasing to Him, then that is my pilgrimage and cleansing bath. Without pleasing Him, what good are ritual cleansings?

ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਰਠਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਵੇਖਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਲਈ ॥

जेती सिरठि उपाई वेखा विणु करमा कि मिलै लई ॥

Jeŧee sirathi ūpaaëe vekhaa viñu karamaa ki milai laëe ||

I gaze upon all the created beings: without the karma of good actions, what are they given to receive?

ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਜੇ ਇਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣੀ ॥

मति विचि रतन जवाहर माणिक जे इक गुर की सिख सुणी ॥

Maŧi vichi raŧan javaahar maañik je īk gur kee sikh suñee ||

Within the mind are gems, jewels and rubies, if you listen to the Guru's Teachings, even once.

ਗੁਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥

गुरा इक देहि बुझाई ॥

Guraa īk đehi bujhaaëe ||

The Guru has given me this one understanding:

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੬॥

सभना जीआ का इकु दाता सो मै विसरि न जाई ॥६॥

Sabhanaa jeeâa kaa īku đaaŧaa so mai visari na jaaëe ||6||

There is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him! ||6||


ਜੇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਆਰਜਾ ਹੋਰ ਦਸੂਣੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

जे जुग चारे आरजा होर दसूणी होइ ॥

Je jug chaare âarajaa hor đasooñee hoī ||

Even if you could live throughout the four ages, or even ten times more,

ਨਵਾ ਖੰਡਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

नवा खंडा विचि जाणीऐ नालि चलै सभु कोइ ॥

Navaa khanddaa vichi jaañeeâi naali chalai sabhu koī ||

And even if you were known throughout the nine continents and followed by all,

ਚੰਗਾ ਨਾਉ ਰਖਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਸੁ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਗਿ ਲੇਇ ॥

चंगा नाउ रखाइ कै जसु कीरति जगि लेइ ॥

Changgaa naaū rakhaaī kai jasu keeraŧi jagi leī ||

With a good name and reputation, with praise and fame throughout the world-

ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤ ਵਾਤ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਕੇ ॥

जे तिसु नदरि न आवई त वात न पुछै के ॥

Je ŧisu nađari na âavaëe ŧa vaaŧ na puchhai ke ||

Still, if the Lord does not bless you with His Glance of Grace, then who cares? What is the use?

ਕੀਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਸੀ ਦੋਸੁ ਧਰੇ ॥

कीटा अंदरि कीटु करि दोसी दोसु धरे ॥

Keetaa ânđđari keetu kari đosee đosu đhare ||

Among worms, you would be considered a lowly worm, and even contemptible sinners would hold you in contempt.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਗੁਣਿ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਣਵੰਤਿਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਦੇ ॥

नानक निरगुणि गुणु करे गुणवंतिआ गुणु दे ॥

Naanak niraguñi guñu kare guñavanŧŧiâa guñu đe ||

O Nanak, God blesses the unworthy with virtue, and bestows virtue on the virtuous.

ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਜਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਣੁ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇ ॥੭॥

तेहा कोइ न सुझई जि तिसु गुणु कोइ करे ॥७॥

Ŧehaa koī na sujhaëe ji ŧisu guñu koī kare ||7||

No one can even imagine anyone who can bestow virtue upon Him. ||7||


ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਾਥ ॥

सुणिऐ सिध पीर सुरि नाथ ॥

Suñiâi siđh peer suri naaŧh ||

Listening-the Siddhas, the spiritual teachers, the heroic warriors, the yogic masters.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਧਰਤਿ ਧਵਲ ਆਕਾਸ ॥

सुणिऐ धरति धवल आकास ॥

Suñiâi đharaŧi đhaval âakaas ||

Listening-the earth, its support and the Akaashic ethers.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥

सुणिऐ दीप लोअ पाताल ॥

Suñiâi đeep loâ paaŧaal ||

Listening-the oceans, the lands of the world and the nether regions of the underworld.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕਾਲੁ ॥

सुणिऐ पोहि न सकै कालु ॥

Suñiâi pohi na sakai kaalu ||

Listening-Death cannot even touch you.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥

नानक भगता सदा विगासु ॥

Naanak bhagaŧaa sađaa vigaasu ||

O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਦੂਖ ਪਾਪ ਕਾ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੮॥

सुणिऐ दूख पाप का नासु ॥८॥

Suñiâi đookh paap kaa naasu ||8||

Listening-pain and sin are erased. ||8||


ਸੁਣਿਐ ਈਸਰੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਇੰਦੁ ॥

सुणिऐ ईसरु बरमा इंदु ॥

Suñiâi ëesaru baramaa īanđđu ||

Listening-Shiva, Brahma and Indra.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੇਦ ॥

सुणिऐ जोग जुगति तनि भेद ॥

Suñiâi jog jugaŧi ŧani bheđ ||

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਵੇਦ ॥

सुणिऐ सासत सिम्रिति वेद ॥

Listening-truth, contentment and spiritual wisdom.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਕਾ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥

सुणिऐ अठसठि का इसनानु ॥

Suñiâi âthasathi kaa īsanaanu ||

Listening-take your cleansing bath at the sixty-eight places of pilgrimage.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

सुणिऐ पड़ि पड़ि पावहि मानु ॥

Suñiâi paɍi paɍi paavahi maanu ||

Listening-reading and reciting, honor is obtained.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥

सुणिऐ लागै सहजि धिआनु ॥

Suñiâi laagai sahaji đhiâanu ||

Listening-intuitively grasp the essence of meditation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥

नानक भगता सदा विगासु ॥

Naanak bhagaŧaa sađaa vigaasu ||

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸੇਖ ਪੀਰ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ॥

सुणिऐ सेख पीर पातिसाह ॥

Suñiâi sekh peer paaŧisaah ||

Listening-the Shaykhs, religious scholars, spiritual teachers and emperors.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਅੰਧੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਰਾਹੁ ॥

सुणिऐ अंधे पावहि राहु ॥

Suñiâi ânđđhe paavahi raahu ||

Listening-even the blind find the Path.

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਹਾਥ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਸਗਾਹੁ ॥

सुणिऐ हाथ होवै असगाहु ॥

Suñiâi haaŧh hovai âsagaahu ||

Listening-the Unreachable comes within your grasp.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥

मंने की गति कही न जाइ ॥

Manne kee gaŧi kahee na jaaī ||

The state of the faithful cannot be described.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥

जे को कहै पिछै पछुताइ ॥

Je ko kahai pichhai pachhuŧaaī ||

One who tries to describe this shall regret the attempt.

ਕਾਗਦਿ ਕਲਮ ਨ ਲਿਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

कागदि कलम न लिखणहारु ॥

Kaagađi kalam na likhañahaaru ||

No paper, no pen, no scribe

ਮੰਨੇ ਕਾ ਬਹਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

मंने का बहि करनि वीचारु ॥

Manne kaa bahi karani veechaaru ||

Can record the state of the faithful.

ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

ऐसा नामु निरंजनु होइ ॥

Âisaa naamu niranjjanu hoī ||

Such is the Name of the Immaculate Lord.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੨॥

जे को मंनि जाणै मनि कोइ ॥१२॥

Je ko manni jaañai mani koī ||12||

Only one who has faith comes to know such a state of mind. ||12||


ਮੰਨੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਬੁਧਿ ॥

मंनै सुरति होवै मनि बुधि ॥

Mannai suraŧi hovai mani buđhi ||

The faithful have intuitive awareness and intelligence.

ਮੰਨੈ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ॥

मंनै सगल भवण की सुधि ॥

Mannai sagal bhavañ kee suđhi ||

The faithful know about all worlds and realms.

ਮੰਨੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਨਾ ਖਾਇ ॥

मंनै मुहि चोटा ना खाइ ॥

Mannai muhi chotaa naa khaaī ||

The faithful shall never be struck across the face.

ਮੰਨੈ ਜਮ ਕੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

मंनै जम कै साथि न जाइ ॥

Mannai jam kai saaŧhi na jaaī ||

The faithful do not have to go with the Messenger of Death.

ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

ऐसा नामु निरंजनु होइ ॥

Âisaa naamu niranjjanu hoī ||

Such is the Name of the Immaculate Lord.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੩॥

जे को मंनि जाणै मनि कोइ ॥१३॥

Je ko manni jaañai mani koī ||13||

Only one who has faith comes to know such a state of mind. ||13||


ਮੰਨੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

मंनै मारगि ठाक न पाइ ॥

Mannai maaragi thaak na paaī ||

The path of the faithful shall never be blocked.

ਮੰਨੈ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

मंनै पति सिउ परगटु जाइ ॥

Mannai paŧi siū paragatu jaaī ||

The faithful shall depart with honor and fame.

ਮੰਨੈ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਪੰਥੁ ॥

मंनै मगु न चलै पंथु ॥

Mannai magu na chalai panŧŧhu ||

The faithful do not follow empty religious rituals.

ਮੰਨੈ ਧਰਮ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ॥

मंनै धरम सेती सनबंधु ॥

Mannai đharam seŧee sanabanđđhu ||

The faithful are firmly bound to the Dharma.

ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

ऐसा नामु निरंजनु होइ ॥

Âisaa naamu niranjjanu hoī ||

Such is the Name of the Immaculate Lord.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੪॥

जे को मंनि जाणै मनि कोइ ॥१४॥

Je ko manni jaañai mani koī ||14||

Only one who has faith comes to know such a state of mind. ||14||


ਮੰਨੈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

मंनै पावहि मोखु दुआरु ॥

Mannai paavahi mokhu đuâaru ||

The faithful find the Door of Liberation.

ਮੰਨੈ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ਸਾਧਾਰੁ ॥

मंनै परवारै साधारु ॥

Mannai paravaarai saađhaaru ||

The faithful uplift and redeem their family and relations.

ਮੰਨੈ ਤਰੈ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ॥

मंनै तरै तारे गुरु सिख ॥

Mannai ŧarai ŧaare guru sikh ||

The faithful are saved, and carried across with the Sikhs of the Guru.

ਮੰਨੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਵਹਿ ਨ ਭਿਖ ॥

मंनै नानक भवहि न भिख ॥

Mannai naanak bhavahi na bhikh ||

The faithful, O Nanak, do not wander around begging.

ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

ऐसा नामु निरंजनु होइ ॥

Such is the Name of the Immaculate Lord.

ਪੰਚ ਪਰਵਾਣ ਪੰਚ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥

पंच परवाण पंच परधानु ॥

Pancch paravaañ pancch parađhaanu ||

The chosen ones, the self-elect, are accepted and approved.

ਪੰਚੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

पंचे पावहि दरगहि मानु ॥

Pancche paavahi đaragahi maanu ||

The chosen ones are honored in the Court of the Lord.

ਪੰਚੇ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਿ ਰਾਜਾਨੁ ॥

पंचे सोहहि दरि राजानु ॥

Pancche sohahi đari raajaanu ||

The chosen ones look beautiful in the courts of kings.

ਪੰਚਾ ਕਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥

पंचा का गुरु एकु धिआनु ॥

Pancchaa kaa guru ēku đhiâanu ||

The chosen ones meditate single-mindedly on the Guru.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਰੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

जे को कहै करै वीचारु ॥

Je ko kahai karai veechaaru ||

No matter how much anyone tries to explain and describe them,

ਕਰਤੇ ਕੈ ਕਰਣੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਮਾਰੁ ॥

करते कै करणै नाही सुमारु ॥

Karaŧe kai karañai naahee sumaaru ||

The actions of the Creator cannot be counted.

ਧੌਲੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਾ ਪੂਤੁ ॥

धौलु धरमु दइआ का पूतु ॥

Đhaulu đharamu đaīâa kaa pooŧu ||

The mythical bull is Dharma, the son of compassion;

ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਥਾਪਿ ਰਖਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਸੂਤਿ ॥

संतोखु थापि रखिआ जिनि सूति ॥

Sanŧŧokhu ŧhaapi rakhiâa jini sooŧi ||

This is what patiently holds the earth in its place.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬੁਝੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥

जे को बुझै होवै सचिआरु ॥

Je ko bujhai hovai sachiâaru ||

One who understands this becomes truthful.

ਧਵਲੈ ਉਪਰਿ ਕੇਤਾ ਭਾਰੁ ॥

धवलै उपरि केता भारु ॥

Đhavalai ūpari keŧaa bhaaru ||

What a great load there is on the bull!

ਧਰਤੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਪਰੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਹੋਰੁ ॥

धरती होरु परै होरु होरु ॥

Đharaŧee horu parai horu horu ||

So many worlds beyond this world-so very many!

ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਭਾਰੁ ਤਲੈ ਕਵਣੁ ਜੋਰੁ ॥

तिस ते भारु तलै कवणु जोरु ॥

Ŧis ŧe bhaaru ŧalai kavañu joru ||

What power holds them, and supports their weight?

ਜੀਅ ਜਾਤਿ ਰੰਗਾ ਕੇ ਨਾਵ ॥

जीअ जाति रंगा के नाव ॥

Jeeâ jaaŧi ranggaa ke naav ||

The names and the colors of the assorted species of beings

ਸਭਨਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਵੁੜੀ ਕਲਾਮ ॥

सभना लिखिआ वुड़ी कलाम ॥

Sabhanaa likhiâa vuɍee kalaam ||

Were all inscribed by the Ever-flowing Pen of God.

ਏਹੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

एहु लेखा लिखि जाणै कोइ ॥

Ēhu lekhaa likhi jaañai koī ||

Who knows how to write this account?

ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕੇਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

लेखा लिखिआ केता होइ ॥

Lekhaa likhiâa keŧaa hoī ||

Just imagine what a huge scroll it would take!

ਕੇਤਾ ਤਾਣੁ ਸੁਆਲਿਹੁ ਰੂਪੁ ॥

केता ताणु सुआलिहु रूपु ॥

Keŧaa ŧaañu suâalihu roopu ||

What power! What fascinating beauty!

ਕੇਤੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੌਣੁ ਕੂਤੁ ॥

केती दाति जाणै कौणु कूतु ॥

Keŧee đaaŧi jaañai kauñu kooŧu ||

And what gifts! Who can know their extent?

ਕੀਤਾ ਪਸਾਉ ਏਕੋ ਕਵਾਉ ॥

कीता पसाउ एको कवाउ ॥

Keeŧaa pasaaū ēko kavaaū ||

You created the vast expanse of the Universe with One Word!

ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਲਖ ਦਰੀਆਉ ॥

तिस ते होए लख दरीआउ ॥

Ŧis ŧe hoē lakh đareeâaū ||

Hundreds of thousands of rivers began to flow.

ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਵਣ ਕਹਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

कुदरति कवण कहा वीचारु ॥

Kuđaraŧi kavañ kahaa veechaaru ||

How can Your Creative Potency be described?

ਵਾਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ਏਕ ਵਾਰ ॥

वारिआ न जावा एक वार ॥

Vaariâa na jaavaa ēk vaar ||

I cannot even once be a sacrifice to You.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥

जो तुधु भावै साई भली कार ॥

Jo ŧuđhu bhaavai saaëe bhalee kaar ||

Whatever pleases You is the only good done,

ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥੧੬॥

तू सदा सलामति निरंकार ॥१६॥

Ŧoo sađaa salaamaŧi nirankkaar ||16||

You, Eternal and Formless One! ||16||


ਅਸੰਖ ਜਪ ਅਸੰਖ ਭਾਉ ॥

असंख जप असंख भाउ ॥

Âsankkh jap âsankkh bhaaū ||

Countless meditations, countless loves.

ਅਸੰਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਸੰਖ ਤਪ ਤਾਉ ॥

असंख पूजा असंख तप ताउ ॥

Âsankkh poojaa âsankkh ŧap ŧaaū ||

Countless worship services, countless austere disciplines.

ਅਸੰਖ ਗਰੰਥ ਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਦ ਪਾਠ ॥

असंख गरंथ मुखि वेद पाठ ॥

Âsankkh garanŧŧh mukhi veđ paath ||

Countless scriptures, and ritual recitations of the Vedas.

ਅਸੰਖ ਜੋਗ ਮਨਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਉਦਾਸ ॥

असंख जोग मनि रहहि उदास ॥

Âsankkh jog mani rahahi ūđaas ||

Countless Yogis, whose minds remain detached from the world.

ਅਸੰਖ ਭਗਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥

असंख भगत गुण गिआन वीचार ॥

Âsankkh bhagaŧ guñ giâan veechaar ||

Countless devotees contemplate the Wisdom and Virtues of the Lord.

ਅਸੰਖ ਸਤੀ ਅਸੰਖ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥

असंख सती असंख दातार ॥

Âsankkh saŧee âsankkh đaaŧaar ||

Countless the holy, countless the givers.

ਅਸੰਖ ਸੂਰ ਮੁਹ ਭਖ ਸਾਰ ॥

असंख सूर मुह भख सार ॥

Âsankkh soor muh bhakh saar ||

Countless heroic spiritual warriors, who bear the brunt of the attack in battle (who with their mouths eat steel).

ਅਸੰਖ ਮੋਨਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ਤਾਰ ॥

असंख मोनि लिव लाइ तार ॥

Âsankkh moni liv laaī ŧaar ||

Countless silent sages, vibrating the String of His Love.

ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਵਣ ਕਹਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

कुदरति कवण कहा वीचारु ॥

Kuđaraŧi kavañ kahaa veechaaru ||

Countless fools, blinded by ignorance.

ਅਸੰਖ ਚੋਰ ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰ ॥

असंख चोर हरामखोर ॥

Âsankkh chor haraamakhor ||

Countless thieves and embezzlers.

ਅਸੰਖ ਅਮਰ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਜੋਰ ॥

असंख अमर करि जाहि जोर ॥

Âsankkh âmar kari jaahi jor ||

Countless impose their will by force.

ਅਸੰਖ ਗਲਵਢ ਹਤਿਆ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥

असंख गलवढ हतिआ कमाहि ॥

Âsankkh galavadh haŧiâa kamaahi ||

Countless cut-throats and ruthless killers.

ਅਸੰਖ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਪੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

असंख पापी पापु करि जाहि ॥

Âsankkh paapee paapu kari jaahi ||

Countless sinners who keep on sinning.

ਅਸੰਖ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਕੂੜੇ ਫਿਰਾਹਿ ॥

असंख कूड़िआर कूड़े फिराहि ॥

Âsankkh kooɍiâar kooɍe phiraahi ||

Countless liars, wandering lost in their lies.

ਅਸੰਖ ਮਲੇਛ ਮਲੁ ਭਖਿ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

असंख मलेछ मलु भखि खाहि ॥

Âsankkh malechh malu bhakhi khaahi ||

Countless wretches, eating filth as their ration.

ਅਸੰਖ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਭਾਰੁ ॥

असंख निंदक सिरि करहि भारु ॥

Âsankkh ninđđak siri karahi bhaaru ||

Countless slanderers, carrying the weight of their stupid mistakes on their heads.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

नानकु नीचु कहै वीचारु ॥

Naanaku neechu kahai veechaaru ||

Nanak describes the state of the lowly.

ਵਾਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ਏਕ ਵਾਰ ॥

वारिआ न जावा एक वार ॥

Vaariâa na jaavaa ēk vaar ||

I cannot even once be a sacrifice to You.

Countless names, countless places.

ਅਗੰਮ ਅਗੰਮ ਅਸੰਖ ਲੋਅ ॥

अगम अगम असंख लोअ ॥

Âgamm âgamm âsankkh loâ ||

Inaccessible, unapproachable, countless celestial realms.

ਅਸੰਖ ਕਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

असंख कहहि सिरि भारु होइ ॥

Âsankkh kahahi siri bhaaru hoī ||

Even to call them countless is to carry the weight on your head.

ਅਖਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਖਰੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥

अखरी नामु अखरी सालाह ॥

Âkharee naamu âkharee saalaah ||

From the Word, comes the Naam; from the Word, comes Your Praise.

ਅਖਰੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੀਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹ ॥

अखरी गिआनु गीत गुण गाह ॥

Âkharee giâanu geeŧ guñ gaah ||

From the Word, comes spiritual wisdom, singing the Songs of Your Glory.

ਅਖਰੀ ਲਿਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬਾਣਿ ॥

अखरी लिखणु बोलणु बाणि ॥

Âkharee likhañu bolañu baañi ||

From the Word, come the written and spoken words and hymns.

ਅਖਰਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਵਖਾਣਿ ॥

अखरा सिरि संजोगु वखाणि ॥

Âkharaa siri sanjjogu vakhaañi ||

From the Word, comes destiny, written on one's forehead.

ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹਿ ਲਿਖੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

जिनि एहि लिखे तिसु सिरि नाहि ॥

Jini ēhi likhe ŧisu siri naahi ||

But the One who wrote these Words of Destiny-no words are written on His Forehead.

ਜਿਵ ਫੁਰਮਾਏ ਤਿਵ ਤਿਵ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

जिव फुरमाए तिव तिव पाहि ॥

Jiv phuramaaē ŧiv ŧiv paahi ||

As He ordains, so do we receive.

ਜੇਤਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇਤਾ ਨਾਉ ॥

जेता कीता तेता नाउ ॥

Jeŧaa keeŧaa ŧeŧaa naaū ||

The created universe is the manifestation of Your Name.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਥਾਉ ॥

विणु नावै नाही को थाउ ॥

Viñu naavai naahee ko ŧhaaū ||

Without Your Name, there is no place at all.

ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਵਣ ਕਹਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

कुदरति कवण कहा वीचारु ॥

Kuđaraŧi kavañ kahaa veechaaru ||

How can I describe Your Creative Power?

ਵਾਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ਏਕ ਵਾਰ ॥

वारिआ न जावा एक वार ॥

Vaariâa na jaavaa ēk vaar ||

I cannot even once be a sacrifice to You.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥

जो तुधु भावै साई भली कार ॥

Jo ŧuđhu bhaavai saaëe bhalee kaar ||

Whatever pleases You is the only good done,

ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥੧੯॥

तू सदा सलामति निरंकार ॥१९॥

Ŧoo sađaa salaamaŧi nirankkaar ||19||

You, Eternal and Formless One. ||19||


ਭਰੀਐ ਹਥੁ ਪੈਰੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇਹ ॥

भरीऐ हथु पैरु तनु देह ॥

Bhareeâi haŧhu pairu ŧanu đeh ||

When the hands and the feet and the body are dirty,

ਪਾਣੀ ਧੋਤੈ ਉਤਰਸੁ ਖੇਹ ॥

पाणी धोतै उतरसु खेह ॥

Paañee đhoŧai ūŧarasu kheh ||

Water can wash away the dirt.

ਮੂਤ ਪਲੀਤੀ ਕਪੜੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

मूत पलीती कपड़ु होइ ॥

Mooŧ paleeŧee kapaɍu hoī ||

When the clothes are soiled and stained by urine,

ਦੇ ਸਾਬੂਣੁ ਲਈਐ ਓਹੁ ਧੋਇ ॥

दे साबूणु लईऐ ओहु धोइ ॥

Đe saabooñu laëeâi õhu đhoī ||

Soap can wash them clean.

ਭਰੀਐ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

भरीऐ मति पापा कै संगि ॥

Bhareeâi maŧi paapaa kai sanggi ||

But when the intellect is stained and polluted by sin,

ਓਹੁ ਧੋਪੈ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

ओहु धोपै नावै कै रंगि ॥

Õhu đhopai naavai kai ranggi ||

It can only be cleansed by the Love of the Name.

ਪੁੰਨੀ ਪਾਪੀ ਆਖਣੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

पुंनी पापी आखणु नाहि ॥

Punnee paapee âakhañu naahi ||

Virtue and vice do not come by mere words;

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਣਾ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਹੁ ॥

करि करि करणा लिखि लै जाहु ॥

Kari kari karañaa likhi lai jaahu ||

Actions repeated, over and over again, are engraved on the soul.

ਆਪੇ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਹੁ ॥

आपे बीजि आपे ही खाहु ॥

Âape beeji âape hee khaahu ||

You shall harvest what you plant.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਆਵਹੁ ਜਾਹੁ ॥੨੦॥

नानक हुकमी आवहु जाहु ॥२०॥

Naanak hukamee âavahu jaahu ||20||

O Nanak, by the Hukam of God's Command, we come and go in reincarnation. ||20||


ਤੀਰਥੁ ਤਪੁ ਦਇਆ ਦਤੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥

तीरथु तपु दइआ दतु दानु ॥

Ŧeeraŧhu ŧapu đaīâa đaŧu đaanu ||

Pilgrimages, austere discipline, compassion and charity

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ਤਿਲ ਕਾ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

जे को पावै तिल का मानु ॥

Je ko paavai ŧil kaa maanu ||

These, by themselves, bring only an iota of merit.

ਸੁਣਿਆ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਭਾਉ ॥

सुणिआ मंनिआ मनि कीता भाउ ॥

Suñiâa manniâa mani keeŧaa bhaaū ||

Listening and believing with love and humility in your mind,

ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਮਲਿ ਨਾਉ ॥

अंतरगति तीरथि मलि नाउ ॥

Ânŧŧaragaŧi ŧeeraŧhi mali naaū ||

Cleanse yourself with the Name, at the sacred shrine deep within.

ਸਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

सभि गुण तेरे मै नाही कोइ ॥

Sabhi guñ ŧere mai naahee koī ||

All virtues are Yours, Lord, I have none at all.

ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਣ ਕੀਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

विणु गुण कीते भगति न होइ ॥

Viñu guñ keeŧe bhagaŧi na hoī ||

Without virtue, there is no devotional worship.

ਸੁਅਸਤਿ ਆਥਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਬਰਮਾਉ ॥

सुअसति आथि बाणी बरमाउ ॥

Suâsaŧi âaŧhi baañee baramaaū ||

I bow to the Lord of the World, to His Word, to Brahma the Creator.

ਸਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਣੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥

सति सुहाणु सदा मनि चाउ ॥

Saŧi suhaañu sađaa mani chaaū ||

He is Beautiful, True and Eternally Joyful.

ਕਵਣੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤੁ ਕਵਣੁ ਕਵਣ ਥਿਤਿ ਕਵਣੁ ਵਾਰੁ ॥

कवणु सु वेला वखतु कवणु कवण थिति कवणु वारु ॥

Kavañu su velaa vakhaŧu kavañu kavañ ŧhiŧi kavañu vaaru ||

What was that time, and what was that moment? What was that day, and what was that date?

ਕਵਣਿ ਸਿ ਰੁਤੀ ਮਾਹੁ ਕਵਣੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹੋਆ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥

कवणि सि रुती माहु कवणु जितु होआ आकारु ॥

Kavañi si ruŧee maahu kavañu jiŧu hoâa âakaaru ||

What was that season, and what was that month, when the Universe was created?

ਵੇਲ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ਪੰਡਤੀ ਜਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਲੇਖੁ ਪੁਰਾਣੁ ॥

वेल न पाईआ पंडती जि होवै लेखु पुराणु ॥

Vel na paaëeâa panddaŧee ji hovai lekhu puraañu ||

The Pandits, the religious scholars, cannot find that time, even if it is written in the Puraanas.

ਵਖਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਕਾਦੀਆ ਜਿ ਲਿਖਨਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਕੁਰਾਣੁ ॥

वखतु न पाइओ कादीआ जि लिखनि लेखु कुराणु ॥

Vakhaŧu na paaīõ kaađeeâa ji likhani lekhu kuraañu ||

That time is not known to the Qazis, who study the Koran.

ਥਿਤਿ ਵਾਰੁ ਨਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਰੁਤਿ ਮਾਹੁ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ॥

थिति वारु ना जोगी जाणै रुति माहु ना कोई ॥

Ŧhiŧi vaaru naa jogee jaañai ruŧi maahu naa koëe ||

The day and the date are not known to the Yogis, nor is the month or the season.

ਜਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਿਰਠੀ ਕਉ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ॥

जा करता सिरठी कउ साजे आपे जाणै सोई ॥

Jaa karaŧaa sirathee kaū saaje âape jaañai soëe ||

The Creator who created this creation-only He Himself knows.

ਕਿਵ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਾ ਕਿਵ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਕਿਉ ਵਰਨੀ ਕਿਵ ਜਾਣਾ ॥

किव करि आखा किव सालाही किउ वरनी किव जाणा ॥

Kiv kari âakhaa kiv saalaahee kiū varanee kiv jaañaa ||

How can we speak of Him? How can we praise Him? How can we describe Him? How can we know Him?

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਣਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਇਕ ਦੂ ਇਕੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥

नानक आखणि सभु को आखै इक दू इकु सिआणा ॥

Naanak âakhañi sabhu ko âakhai īk đoo īku siâañaa ||

O Nanak, everyone speaks of Him, each one wiser than the rest.

ਵਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਵਡੀ ਨਾਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥

वडा साहिबु वडी नाई कीता जा का होवै ॥

Vadaa saahibu vadee naaëe keeŧaa jaa kaa hovai ||

Great is the Master, Great is His Name. Whatever happens is according to His Will.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਆਪੌ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਗੈ ਗਇਆ ਨ ਸੋਹੈ ॥੨੧॥

नानक जे को आपौ जाणै अगै गइआ न सोहै ॥२१॥

Naanak je ko âapau jaañai âgai gaīâa na sohai ||21||

O Nanak, one who claims to know everything shall not be decorated in the world hereafter. ||21||


ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਲਖ ਆਗਾਸਾ ਆਗਾਸ ॥

पाताला पाताल लख आगासा आगास ॥

Paaŧaalaa paaŧaal lakh âagaasaa âagaas ||

There are nether worlds beneath nether worlds, and hundreds of thousands of heavenly worlds above.

ਓੜਕ ਓੜਕ ਭਾਲਿ ਥਕੇ ਵੇਦ ਕਹਨਿ ਇਕ ਵਾਤ ॥

ओड़क ओड़क भालि थके वेद कहनि इक वात ॥

Õɍak õɍak bhaali ŧhake veđ kahani īk vaaŧ ||

The Vedas say that you can search and search for them all, until you grow weary.

ਸਹਸ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਕਹਨਿ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਅਸੁਲੂ ਇਕੁ ਧਾਤੁ ॥

सहस अठारह कहनि कतेबा असुलू इकु धातु ॥

Sahas âthaarah kahani kaŧebaa âsuloo īku đhaaŧu ||

The scriptures say that there are 18,000 worlds, but in reality, there is only One Universe.

ਲੇਖਾ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਲੇਖੈ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥

लेखा होइ त लिखीऐ लेखै होइ विणासु ॥

Lekhaa hoī ŧa likheeâi lekhai hoī viñaasu ||

If you try to write an account of this, you will surely finish yourself before you finish writing it.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪੁ ॥੨੨॥

नानक वडा आखीऐ आपे जाणै आपु ॥२२॥

Naanak vadaa âakheeâi âape jaañai âapu ||22||

O Nanak, call Him Great! He Himself knows Himself. ||22||


ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਏਤੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ॥

सालाही सालाहि एती सुरति न पाईआ ॥

Saalaahee saalaahi ēŧee suraŧi na paaëeâa ||

The praisers praise the Lord, but they do not obtain intuitive understanding

ਨਦੀਆ ਅਤੈ ਵਾਹ ਪਵਹਿ ਸਮੁੰਦਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ॥

नदीआ अतै वाह पवहि समुंदि न जाणीअहि ॥

Nađeeâa âŧai vaah pavahi samunđđi na jaañeeâhi ||

The streams and rivers flowing into the ocean do not know its vastness.

ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਾਹ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ਗਿਰਹਾ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਾਲੁ ਧਨੁ ॥

समुंद साह सुलतान गिरहा सेती मालु धनु ॥

Samunđđ saah sulaŧaan girahaa seŧee maalu đhanu ||

Even kings and emperors, with mountains of property and oceans of wealth

ਕੀੜੀ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਨੀ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰਹਿ ॥੨੩॥

कीड़ी तुलि न होवनी जे तिसु मनहु न वीसरहि ॥२३॥

Keeɍee ŧuli na hovanee je ŧisu manahu na veesarahi ||23||

-these are not even equal to an ant, who does not forget God. ||23||


ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਕਹਣਿ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥

अंतु न सिफती कहणि न अंतु ॥

Ânŧŧu na siphaŧee kahañi na ânŧŧu ||

Endless are His Praises, endless are those who speak them.

ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਰਣੈ ਦੇਣਿ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥

अंतु न करणै देणि न अंतु ॥

Ânŧŧu na karañai đeñi na ânŧŧu ||

Endless are His Actions, endless are His Gifts.

ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਵੇਖਣਿ ਸੁਣਣਿ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥

अंतु न वेखणि सुणणि न अंतु ॥

Ânŧŧu na vekhañi suñañi na ânŧŧu ||

Endless is His Vision, endless is His Hearing.

ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਮੰਤੁ ॥

अंतु न जापै किआ मनि मंतु ॥

Ânŧŧu na jaapai kiâa mani manŧŧu ||

His limits cannot be perceived. What is the Mystery of His Mind?

ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥

अंतु न जापै कीता आकारु ॥

Ânŧŧu na jaapai keeŧaa âakaaru ||

The limits of the created universe cannot be perceived.

ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥

अंतु न जापै पारावारु ॥

Ânŧŧu na jaapai paaraavaaru ||

Its limits here and beyond cannot be perceived.

ਅੰਤ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ॥

अंत कारणि केते बिललाहि ॥

Ânŧŧ kaarañi keŧe bilalaahi ||

Many struggle to know His limits,

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

ता के अंत न पाए जाहि ॥

Ŧaa ke ânŧŧ na paaē jaahi ||

But His limits cannot be found.

ਏਹੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

एहु अंतु न जाणै कोइ ॥

Ēhu ânŧŧu na jaañai koī ||

No one can know these limits.

ਬਹੁਤਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

बहुता कहीऐ बहुता होइ ॥

Bahuŧaa kaheeâi bahuŧaa hoī ||

The more you say about them, the more there still remains to be said.

ਵਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਊਚਾ ਥਾਉ ॥

वडा साहिबु ऊचा थाउ ॥

Vadaa saahibu ǖchaa ŧhaaū ||

Great is the Master, High is His Heavenly Home.

ਊਚੇ ਉਪਰਿ ਊਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥

ऊचे उपरि ऊचा नाउ ॥

Ǖche ūpari ǖchaa naaū ||

Highest of the High, above all is His Name.

ਏਵਡੁ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

एवडु ऊचा होवै कोइ ॥

Ēvadu ǖchaa hovai koī ||

Only one as Great and as High as God

ਤਿਸੁ ਊਚੇ ਕਉ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

तिसु ऊचे कउ जाणै सोइ ॥

Ŧisu ǖche kaū jaañai soī ||

Can know His Lofty and Exalted State.

ਜੇਵਡੁ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ॥

जेवडु आपि जाणै आपि आपि ॥

Jevadu âapi jaañai âapi âapi ||

Only He Himself is that Great. He Himself knows Himself.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੨੪॥

नानक नदरी करमी दाति ॥२४॥

Naanak nađaree karamee đaaŧi ||24||

O Nanak, by His Glance of Grace, He bestows His Blessings. ||24||


ਬਹੁਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

बहुता करमु लिखिआ ना जाइ ॥

Bahuŧaa karamu likhiâa naa jaaī ||

His Blessings are so abundant that there can be no written account of them.

ਵਡਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥

वडा दाता तिलु न तमाइ ॥

Vadaa đaaŧaa ŧilu na ŧamaaī ||

The Great Giver does not hold back anything.

ਕੇਤੇ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਜੋਧ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

केते मंगहि जोध अपार ॥

Keŧe manggahi jođh âpaar ||

There are so many great, heroic warriors begging at the Door of the Infinite Lord.

ਕੇਤਿਆ ਗਣਤ ਨਹੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

केतिआ गणत नही वीचारु ॥

Keŧiâa gañaŧ nahee veechaaru ||

So many contemplate and dwell upon Him, that they cannot be counted.

ਕੇਤੇ ਖਪਿ ਤੁਟਹਿ ਵੇਕਾਰ ॥

केते खपि तुटहि वेकार ॥

Keŧe khapi ŧutahi vekaar ||

So many waste away to death engaged in corruption.

ਕੇਤੇ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਮੁਕਰੁ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

केते लै लै मुकरु पाहि ॥

Keŧe lai lai mukaru paahi ||

So many take and take again, and then deny receiving.

ਕੇਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਖਾਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

केते मूरख खाही खाहि ॥

Keŧe moorakh khaahee khaahi ||

So many foolish consumers keep on consuming.

ਕੇਤਿਆ ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਸਦ ਮਾਰ ॥

केतिआ दूख भूख सद मार ॥

Keŧiâa đookh bhookh sađ maar ||

So many endure distress, deprivation and constant abuse.

ਏਹਿ ਭਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥

एहि भि दाति तेरी दातार ॥

Ēhi bhi đaaŧi ŧeree đaaŧaar ||

Even these are Your Gifts, O Great Giver!

ਬੰਦਿ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਭਾਣੈ ਹੋਇ ॥

बंदि खलासी भाणै होइ ॥

Banđđi khalaasee bhaañai hoī ||

Liberation from bondage comes only by Your Will.

ਹੋਰੁ ਆਖਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

होरु आखि न सकै कोइ ॥

Horu âakhi na sakai koī ||

No one else has any say in this.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਖਾਇਕੁ ਆਖਣਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

जे को खाइकु आखणि पाइ ॥

Je ko khaaīku âakhañi paaī ||

If some fool should presume to say that he does,

ਓਹੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇਤੀਆ ਮੁਹਿ ਖਾਇ ॥

ओहु जाणै जेतीआ मुहि खाइ ॥

Õhu jaañai jeŧeeâa muhi khaaī ||

He shall learn, and feel the effects of his folly.

ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥

आपे जाणै आपे देइ ॥

Âape jaañai âape đeī ||

He Himself knows, He Himself gives.

ਆਖਹਿ ਸਿ ਭਿ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥

आखहि सि भि केई केइ ॥

Âakhahi si bhi keëe keī ||

Few, very few are those who acknowledge this.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥

जिस नो बखसे सिफति सालाह ॥

Jis no bakhase siphaŧi saalaah ||

One who is blessed to sing the Praises of the Lord,

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥੨੫॥

नानक पातिसाही पातिसाहु ॥२५॥

Naanak paaŧisaahee paaŧisaahu ||25||

O Nanak, is the king of kings. ||25||


ਅਮੁਲ ਗੁਣ ਅਮੁਲ ਵਾਪਾਰ ॥

अमुल गुण अमुल वापार ॥

Âmul guñ âmul vaapaar ||

Priceless are His Virtues, Priceless are His Dealings.

ਅਮੁਲ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਏ ਅਮੁਲ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥

अमुल वापारीए अमुल भंडार ॥

Âmul vaapaareeē âmul bhanddaar ||

Priceless are His Dealers, Priceless are His Treasures.

ਅਮੁਲ ਆਵਹਿ ਅਮੁਲ ਲੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

अमुल आवहि अमुल लै जाहि ॥

Âmul âavahi âmul lai jaahi ||

Priceless are those who come to Him, Priceless are those who buy from Him.

ਅਮੁਲ ਭਾਇ ਅਮੁਲਾ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥

अमुल भाइ अमुला समाहि ॥

Âmul bhaaī âmulaa samaahi ||

Priceless is Love for Him, Priceless is absorption into Him.

ਅਮੁਲੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥

अमुलु धरमु अमुलु दीबाणु ॥

Âmulu đharamu âmulu đeebaañu ||

Priceless is the Divine Law of Dharma, Priceless is the Divine Court of Justice.

ਅਮੁਲੁ ਤੁਲੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

अमुलु तुलु अमुलु परवाणु ॥

Âmulu ŧulu âmulu paravaañu ||

Priceless are the scales, priceless are the weights.

ਅਮੁਲੁ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

अमुलु बखसीस अमुलु नीसाणु ॥

Âmulu bakhasees âmulu neesaañu ||

Priceless are His Blessings, Priceless is His Banner and Insignia.

ਅਮੁਲੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ॥

अमुलु करमु अमुलु फुरमाणु ॥

Âmulu karamu âmulu phuramaañu ||

Priceless is His Mercy, Priceless is His Royal Command.

ਅਮੁਲੋ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਆਖਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

अमुलो अमुलु आखिआ न जाइ ॥

Âmulo âmulu âakhiâa na jaaī ||

Priceless, O Priceless beyond expression!

ਆਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

आखि आखि रहे लिव लाइ ॥

Âakhi âakhi rahe liv laaī ||

Speak of Him continually, and remain absorbed in His Love.

ਆਖਹਿ ਵੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥

आखहि वेद पाठ पुराण ॥

Âakhahi veđ paath puraañ ||

The Vedas and the Puraanas speak.

ਆਖਹਿ ਪੜੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ ॥

आखहि पड़े करहि वखिआण ॥

Âakhahi paɍe karahi vakhiâañ ||

The scholars speak and lecture.

ਆਖਹਿ ਬਰਮੇ ਆਖਹਿ ਇੰਦ ॥

आखहि बरमे आखहि इंद ॥

Âakhahi barame âakhahi īanđđ ||

Brahma speaks, Indra speaks.

ਆਖਹਿ ਗੋਪੀ ਤੈ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ॥

आखहि गोपी तै गोविंद ॥

Âakhahi gopee ŧai govinđđ ||

The Gopis and Krishna speak.

ਆਖਹਿ ਈਸਰ ਆਖਹਿ ਸਿਧ ॥

आखहि ईसर आखहि सिध ॥

Âakhahi ëesar âakhahi siđh ||

Shiva speaks, the Siddhas speak.

ਆਖਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਬੁਧ ॥

आखहि केते कीते बुध ॥

Âakhahi keŧe keeŧe buđh ||

The many created Buddhas speak.

ਆਖਹਿ ਦਾਨਵ ਆਖਹਿ ਦੇਵ ॥

आखहि दानव आखहि देव ॥

Âakhahi đaanav âakhahi đev ||

The demons speak, the demi-gods speak.

ਆਖਹਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵ ॥

आखहि सुरि नर मुनि जन सेव ॥

Âakhahi suri nar muni jan sev ||

The spiritual warriors, the heavenly beings, the silent sages, the humble and serviceful speak.

ਕੇਤੇ ਆਖਹਿ ਆਖਣਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

केते आखहि आखणि पाहि ॥

Keŧe âakhahi âakhañi paahi ||

Many speak and try to describe Him.

ਕੇਤੇ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਉਠਿ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

केते कहि कहि उठि उठि जाहि ॥

Keŧe kahi kahi ūthi ūthi jaahi ||

Many have spoken of Him over and over again, and have then arisen and departed.

ਏਤੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਰਿ ਕਰੇਹਿ ॥

एते कीते होरि करेहि ॥

Ēŧe keeŧe hori karehi ||

If He were to create as many again as there already are,

ਤਾ ਆਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥

ता आखि न सकहि केई केइ ॥

Ŧaa âakhi na sakahi keëe keī ||

Even then, they could not describe Him.

ਜੇਵਡੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੇਵਡੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

जेवडु भावै तेवडु होइ ॥

Jevadu bhaavai ŧevadu hoī ||

He is as Great as He wishes to be.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥

नानक जाणै साचा सोइ ॥

Naanak jaañai saachaa soī ||

O Nanak, the True Lord knows.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਬੋਲੁਵਿਗਾੜੁ ॥

जे को आखै बोलुविगाड़ु ॥

Je ko âakhai boluvigaaɍu ||

If anyone presumes to describe God,

ਤਾ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੨੬॥

ता लिखीऐ सिरि गावारा गावारु ॥२६॥

Ŧaa likheeâi siri gaavaaraa gaavaaru ||26||

He shall be known as the greatest fool of fools! ||26||


ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਬਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥

सो दरु केहा सो घरु केहा जितु बहि सरब समाले ॥

So đaru kehaa so gharu kehaa jiŧu bahi sarab samaale ||

Where is that Gate, and where is that Dwelling, in which You sit and take care of all?

ਵਾਜੇ ਨਾਦ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਸੰਖਾ ਕੇਤੇ ਵਾਵਣਹਾਰੇ ॥

वाजे नाद अनेक असंखा केते वावणहारे ॥

Vaaje naađ ânek âsankkhaa keŧe vaavañahaare ||

The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates there, and countless musicians play on all sorts of instruments there.

ਕੇਤੇ ਰਾਗ ਪਰੀ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੀਅਨਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਗਾਵਣਹਾਰੇ ॥

केते राग परी सिउ कहीअनि केते गावणहारे ॥

Keŧe raag paree siū kaheeâni keŧe gaavañahaare ||

So many Ragas, so many musicians singing there.

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਤੁਹਨੋ ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥

गावहि तुहनो पउणु पाणी बैसंतरु गावै राजा धरमु दुआरे ॥

Gaavahi ŧuhano paūñu paañee baisanŧŧaru gaavai raajaa đharamu đuâare ||

The praanic wind, water and fire sing; the Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at Your Door.

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

गावहि चितु गुपतु लिखि जाणहि लिखि लिखि धरमु वीचारे ॥

Gaavahi chiŧu gupaŧu likhi jaañahi likhi likhi đharamu veechaare ||

Chitr and Gupt, the angels of the conscious and the subconscious who record actions, and the Righteous Judge of Dharma who judges this record sing.

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਈਸਰੁ ਬਰਮਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

गावहि ईसरु बरमा देवी सोहनि सदा सवारे ॥

Gaavahi ëesaru baramaa đevee sohani sađaa savaare ||

Shiva, Brahma and the Goddess of Beauty, ever adorned, sing.

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਇੰਦ ਇਦਾਸਣਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

गावहि इंद इदासणि बैठे देवतिआ दरि नाले ॥

Gaavahi īanđđ īđaasañi baithe đevaŧiâa đari naale ||

Indra, seated upon His Throne, sings with the deities at Your Door.

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸਾਧ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥

गावहि सिध समाधी अंदरि गावनि साध विचारे ॥

Gaavahi siđh samaađhee ânđđari gaavani saađh vichaare ||

The Siddhas in Samaadhi sing; the Saadhus sing in contemplation.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਵੀਰ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥

गावनि जती सती संतोखी गावहि वीर करारे ॥

Gaavani jaŧee saŧee sanŧŧokhee gaavahi veer karaare ||

The celibates, the fanatics, the peacefully accepting and the fearless warriors sing.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਨਿ ਰਖੀਸਰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਵੇਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

गावनि पंडित पड़नि रखीसर जुगु जुगु वेदा नाले ॥

Gaavani panddiŧ paɍani rakheesar jugu jugu veđaa naale ||

The Pandits, the religious scholars who recite the Vedas, with the supreme sages of all the ages, sing.

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਹਣੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਸੁਰਗਾ ਮਛ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥

गावहि मोहणीआ मनु मोहनि सुरगा मछ पइआले ॥

Gaavahi mohañeeâa manu mohani suragaa machh paīâale ||

The Mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties who entice hearts in this world, in paradise, and in the underworld of the subconscious sing.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਏ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

गावनि रतन उपाए तेरे अठसठि तीरथ नाले ॥

Gaavani raŧan ūpaaē ŧere âthasathi ŧeeraŧh naale ||

The celestial jewels created by You, and the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage sing.

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰਾ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ॥

गावहि जोध महाबल सूरा गावहि खाणी चारे ॥

Gaavahi jođh mahaabal sooraa gaavahi khaañee chaare ||

The brave and mighty warriors sing; the spiritual heroes and the four sources of creation sing.

ਗਾਵਹਿ ਖੰਡ ਮੰਡਲ ਵਰਭੰਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

गावहि खंड मंडल वरभंडा करि करि रखे धारे ॥

Gaavahi khandd manddal varabhanddaa kari kari rakhe đhaare ||

The planets, solar systems and galaxies, created and arranged by Your Hand, sing.

ਸੇਈ ਤੁਧੁਨੋ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਸਾਲੇ ॥

सेई तुधुनो गावहि जो तुधु भावनि रते तेरे भगत रसाले ॥

Seëe ŧuđhuno gaavahi jo ŧuđhu bhaavani raŧe ŧere bhagaŧ rasaale ||

They alone sing, who are pleasing to Your Will. Your devotees are imbued with the Nectar of Your Essence.

ਹੋਰਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਮੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

होरि केते गावनि से मै चिति न आवनि नानकु किआ वीचारे ॥

Hori keŧe gaavani se mai chiŧi na âavani naanaku kiâa veechaare ||

So many others sing, they do not come to mind. O Nanak, how can I consider them all?

ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥

सोई सोई सदा सचु साहिबु साचा साची नाई ॥

Soëe soëe sađaa sachu saahibu saachaa saachee naaëe ||

That True Lord is True, Forever True, and True is His Name.

ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਾਈ ॥

है भी होसी जाइ न जासी रचना जिनि रचाई ॥

Hai bhee hosee jaaī na jaasee rachanaa jini rachaaëe ||

He is, and shall always be. He shall not depart, even when this Universe which He has created departs.

ਰੰਗੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਭਾਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥

रंगी रंगी भाती करि करि जिनसी माइआ जिनि उपाई ॥

Ranggee ranggee bhaaŧee kari kari jinasee maaīâa jini ūpaaëe ||

He created the world, with its various colors, species of beings, and the variety of Maya.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਵ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

करि करि वेखै कीता आपणा जिव तिस दी वडिआई ॥

Kari kari vekhai keeŧaa âapañaa jiv ŧis đee vadiâaëe ||

Having created the creation, He watches over it Himself, by His Greatness.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥

जो तिसु भावै सोई करसी हुकमु न करणा जाई ॥

Jo ŧisu bhaavai soëe karasee hukamu na karañaa jaaëe ||

He does whatever He pleases. No order can be issued to Him.

ਸੋ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਹਣੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੨੭॥

सो पातिसाहु साहा पातिसाहिबु नानक रहणु रजाई ॥२७॥

So paaŧisaahu saahaa paaŧisaahibu naanak rahañu rajaaëe ||27||

He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will. ||27||


ਮੁੰਦਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਰਮੁ ਪਤੁ ਝੋਲੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਿਭੂਤਿ ॥

मुंदा संतोखु सरमु पतु झोली धिआन की करहि बिभूति ॥

Munđđaa sanŧŧokhu saramu paŧu jholee đhiâan kee karahi bibhooŧi ||

Make contentment your ear-rings, humility your begging bowl, and meditation the ashes you apply to your body.

ਖਿੰਥਾ ਕਾਲੁ ਕੁਆਰੀ ਕਾਇਆ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ॥

खिंथा कालु कुआरी काइआ जुगति डंडा परतीति ॥

Khinŧŧhaa kaalu kuâaree kaaīâa jugaŧi danddaa paraŧeeŧi ||

Let the remembrance of death be the patched coat you wear, let the purity of virginity be your way in the world, and let faith in the Lord be your walking stick.

ਆਈ ਪੰਥੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਮਾਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਜੀਤੈ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤੁ ॥

आई पंथी सगल जमाती मनि जीतै जगु जीतु ॥

Âaëe panŧŧhee sagal jamaaŧee mani jeeŧai jagu jeeŧu ||

See the brotherhood of all mankind as the highest order of Yogis; conquer your own mind, and conquer the world.

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥

आदेसु तिसै आदेसु ॥

Âađesu ŧisai âađesu ||

I bow to Him, I humbly bow.

ਆਦਿ ਅਨੀਲੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਅਨਾਹਤਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਸੁ ॥੨੮॥

आदि अनीलु अनादि अनाहति जुगु जुगु एको वेसु ॥२८॥

Âađi âneelu ânaađi ânaahaŧi jugu jugu ēko vesu ||28||

The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||28||


ਭੁਗਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਦਇਆ ਭੰਡਾਰਣਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਨਾਦ ॥

भुगति गिआनु दइआ भंडारणि घटि घटि वाजहि नाद ॥

Bhugaŧi giâanu đaīâa bhanddaarañi ghati ghati vaajahi naađ ||

Let spiritual wisdom be your food, and compassion your attendant. The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates in each and every heart.

ਆਪਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਨਾਥੀ ਸਭ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਾਦ ॥

आपि नाथु नाथी सभ जा की रिधि सिधि अवरा साद ॥

Âapi naaŧhu naaŧhee sabh jaa kee riđhi siđhi âvaraa saađ ||

He Himself is the Supreme Master of all; wealth and miraculous spiritual powers, and all other external tastes and pleasures, are all like beads on a string.

ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਦੁਇ ਕਾਰ ਚਲਾਵਹਿ ਲੇਖੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਭਾਗ ॥

संजोगु विजोगु दुइ कार चलावहि लेखे आवहि भाग ॥

Sanjjogu vijogu đuī kaar chalaavahi lekhe âavahi bhaag ||

Union with Him, and separation from Him, come by His Will. We come to receive what is written in our destiny.

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥

आदेसु तिसै आदेसु ॥

Âađesu ŧisai âađesu ||

I bow to Him, I humbly bow.

ਆਦਿ ਅਨੀਲੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਅਨਾਹਤਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਸੁ ॥੨੯॥

आदि अनीलु अनादि अनाहति जुगु जुगु एको वेसु ॥२९॥

Âađi âneelu ânaađi ânaahaŧi jugu jugu ēko vesu ||29||

The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||29||


ਏਕਾ ਮਾਈ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵਿਆਈ ਤਿਨਿ ਚੇਲੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

एका माई जुगति विआई तिनि चेले परवाणु ॥

Ēkaa maaëe jugaŧi viâaëe ŧini chele paravaañu ||

The One Divine Mother conceived and gave birth to the three deities.

ਇਕੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਇਕੁ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਇਕੁ ਲਾਏ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥

इकु संसारी इकु भंडारी इकु लाए दीबाणु ॥

Īku sanssaaree īku bhanddaaree īku laaē đeebaañu ||

One, the Creator of the World; One, the Sustainer; and One, the Destroyer.

ਜਿਵ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਵੈ ਜਿਵ ਹੋਵੈ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ॥

जिव तिसु भावै तिवै चलावै जिव होवै फुरमाणु ॥

Jiv ŧisu bhaavai ŧivai chalaavai jiv hovai phuramaañu ||

He makes things happen according to the Pleasure of His Will. Such is His Celestial Order.

ਓਹੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਓਨਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਏਹੁ ਵਿਡਾਣੁ ॥

ओहु वेखै ओना नदरि न आवै बहुता एहु विडाणु ॥

Õhu vekhai õnaa nađari na âavai bahuŧaa ēhu vidaañu ||

He watches over all, but none see Him. How wonderful this is!

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥

आदेसु तिसै आदेसु ॥

Âađesu ŧisai âađesu ||

I bow to Him, I humbly bow.

ਆਦਿ ਅਨੀਲੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਅਨਾਹਤਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਸੁ ॥੩੦॥

आदि अनीलु अनादि अनाहति जुगु जुगु एको वेसु ॥३०॥

Âađi âneelu ânaađi ânaahaŧi jugu jugu ēko vesu ||30||

The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||30||


ਆਸਣੁ ਲੋਇ ਲੋਇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥

आसणु लोइ लोइ भंडार ॥

Âasañu loī loī bhanddaar ||

On world after world are His Seats of Authority and His Storehouses.

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁ ਏਕਾ ਵਾਰ ॥

जो किछु पाइआ सु एका वार ॥

Jo kichhu paaīâa su ēkaa vaar ||

Whatever was put into them, was put there once and for all.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

करि करि वेखै सिरजणहारु ॥

Kari kari vekhai sirajañahaaru ||

Having created the creation, the Creator Lord watches over it.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਕਾਰ ॥

नानक सचे की साची कार ॥

Naanak sache kee saachee kaar ||

O Nanak, True is the Creation of the True Lord.

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥

आदेसु तिसै आदेसु ॥

Âađesu ŧisai âađesu ||

I bow to Him, I humbly bow.

ਆਦਿ ਅਨੀਲੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਅਨਾਹਤਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਸੁ ॥੩੧॥

आदि अनीलु अनादि अनाहति जुगु जुगु एको वेसु ॥३१॥

Âađi âneelu ânaađi ânaahaŧi jugu jugu ēko vesu ||31||

The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||31||


ਇਕ ਦੂ ਜੀਭੌ ਲਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਲਖ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਲਖ ਵੀਸ ॥

इक दू जीभौ लख होहि लख होवहि लख वीस ॥

Īk đoo jeebhau lakh hohi lakh hovahi lakh vees ||

If I had 100,000 tongues, and these were then multiplied twenty times more, with each tongue,

ਲਖੁ ਲਖੁ ਗੇੜਾ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਗਦੀਸ ॥

लखु लखु गेड़ा आखीअहि एकु नामु जगदीस ॥

Lakhu lakhu geɍaa âakheeâhi ēku naamu jagađees ||

I would repeat, hundreds of thousands of times, the Name of the One, the Lord of the Universe.

ਏਤੁ ਰਾਹਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਵੜੀਆ ਚੜੀਐ ਹੋਇ ਇਕੀਸ ॥

एतु राहि पति पवड़ीआ चड़ीऐ होइ इकीस ॥

Ēŧu raahi paŧi pavaɍeeâa chaɍeeâi hoī īkees ||

Along this path to our Husband Lord, we climb the steps of the ladder, and come to merge with Him.

ਸੁਣਿ ਗਲਾ ਆਕਾਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਟਾ ਆਈ ਰੀਸ ॥

सुणि गला आकास की कीटा आई रीस ॥

Suñi galaa âakaas kee keetaa âaëe rees ||

Hearing of the etheric realms, even worms long to come back home.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਕੂੜੀ ਕੂੜੈ ਠੀਸ ॥੩੨॥

नानक नदरी पाईऐ कूड़ी कूड़ै ठीस ॥३२॥

Naanak nađaree paaëeâi kooɍee kooɍai thees ||32||

O Nanak, by His Grace He is obtained. False are the boastings of the false. ||32||


ਆਖਣਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਚੁਪੈ ਨਹ ਜੋਰੁ ॥

आखणि जोरु चुपै नह जोरु ॥

Âakhañi joru chupai nah joru ||

No power to speak, no power to keep silent.

ਜੋਰੁ ਨ ਮੰਗਣਿ ਦੇਣਿ ਨ ਜੋਰੁ ॥

जोरु न मंगणि देणि न जोरु ॥

Joru na manggañi đeñi na joru ||

No power to beg, no power to give.

ਜੋਰੁ ਨ ਜੀਵਣਿ ਮਰਣਿ ਨਹ ਜੋਰੁ ॥

जोरु न जीवणि मरणि नह जोरु ॥

Joru na jeevañi marañi nah joru ||

No power to live, no power to die.

ਜੋਰੁ ਨ ਰਾਜਿ ਮਾਲਿ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਰੁ ॥

जोरु न राजि मालि मनि सोरु ॥

Joru na raaji maali mani soru ||

No power to rule, with wealth and occult mental powers.

ਜੋਰੁ ਨ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

जोरु न सुरती गिआनि वीचारि ॥

Joru na suraŧee giâani veechaari ||

No power to gain intuitive understanding, spiritual wisdom and meditation.

ਜੋਰੁ ਨ ਜੁਗਤੀ ਛੁਟੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

जोरु न जुगती छुटै संसारु ॥

Joru na jugaŧee chhutai sanssaaru ||

No power to find the way to escape from the world.

ਜਿਸੁ ਹਥਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

जिसु हथि जोरु करि वेखै सोइ ॥

Jisu haŧhi joru kari vekhai soī ||

He alone has the Power in His Hands. He watches over all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤਮੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੩॥

नानक उतमु नीचु न कोइ ॥३३॥

Naanak ūŧamu neechu na koī ||33||

O Nanak, no one is high or low. ||33||


ਰਾਤੀ ਰੁਤੀ ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ॥

राती रुती थिती वार ॥

Raaŧee ruŧee ŧhiŧee vaar ||

Nights, days, weeks and seasons;

ਪਵਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥

पवण पाणी अगनी पाताल ॥

Pavañ paañee âganee paaŧaal ||

Wind, water, fire and the nether regions

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਥਾਪਿ ਰਖੀ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਲ ॥

तिसु विचि धरती थापि रखी धरम साल ॥

Ŧisu vichi đharaŧee ŧhaapi rakhee đharam saal ||

In the midst of these, He established the earth as a home for Dharma.

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੀਅ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ॥

तिसु विचि जीअ जुगति के रंग ॥

Ŧisu vichi jeeâ jugaŧi ke rangg ||

Upon it, He placed the various species of beings.

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਨੰਤ ॥

तिन के नाम अनेक अनंत ॥

Ŧin ke naam ânek ânanŧŧ ||

Their names are uncounted and endless.

ਕਰਮੀ ਕਰਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

करमी करमी होइ वीचारु ॥

Karamee karamee hoī veechaaru ||

By their deeds and their actions, they shall be judged.

ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਸਚਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥

सचा आपि सचा दरबारु ॥

Sachaa âapi sachaa đarabaaru ||

God Himself is True, and True is His Court.

ਤਿਥੈ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਪੰਚ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

तिथै सोहनि पंच परवाणु ॥

Ŧiŧhai sohani pancch paravaañu ||

There, in perfect grace and ease, sit the self-elect, the self-realized Saints.

ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਵੈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

नदरी करमि पवै नीसाणु ॥

Nađaree karami pavai neesaañu ||

They receive the Mark of Grace from the Merciful Lord.

ਕਚ ਪਕਾਈ ਓਥੈ ਪਾਇ ॥

कच पकाई ओथै पाइ ॥

Kach pakaaëe õŧhai paaī ||

The ripe and the unripe, the good and the bad, shall there be judged.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗਇਆ ਜਾਪੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩੪॥

नानक गइआ जापै जाइ ॥३४॥

Naanak gaīâa jaapai jaaī ||34||

O Nanak, when you go home, you will see this. ||34||


ਧਰਮ ਖੰਡ ਕਾ ਏਹੋ ਧਰਮੁ ॥

धरम खंड का एहो धरमु ॥

Đharam khandd kaa ēho đharamu ||

This is righteous living in the realm of Dharma.

ਗਿਆਨ ਖੰਡ ਕਾ ਆਖਹੁ ਕਰਮੁ ॥

गिआन खंड का आखहु करमु ॥

Giâan khandd kaa âakhahu karamu ||

And now we speak of the realm of spiritual wisdom.

ਕੇਤੇ ਪਵਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਵੈਸੰਤਰ ਕੇਤੇ ਕਾਨ ਮਹੇਸ ॥

केते पवण पाणी वैसंतर केते कान महेस ॥

Keŧe pavañ paañee vaisanŧŧar keŧe kaan mahes ||

So many winds, waters and fires; so many Krishnas and Shivas.

ਕੇਤੇ ਬਰਮੇ ਘਾੜਤਿ ਘੜੀਅਹਿ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਕੇ ਵੇਸ ॥

केते बरमे घाड़ति घड़ीअहि रूप रंग के वेस ॥

Keŧe barame ghaaɍaŧi ghaɍeeâhi roop rangg ke ves ||

So many Brahmas, fashioning forms of great beauty, adorned and dressed in many colors.

ਕੇਤੀਆ ਕਰਮ ਭੂਮੀ ਮੇਰ ਕੇਤੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਧੂ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥

केतीआ करम भूमी मेर केते केते धू उपदेस ॥

Keŧeeâa karam bhoomee mer keŧe keŧe đhoo ūpađes ||

So many worlds and lands for working out karma. So very many lessons to be learned!

ਕੇਤੇ ਇੰਦ ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰ ਕੇਤੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਮੰਡਲ ਦੇਸ ॥

केते इंद चंद सूर केते केते मंडल देस ॥

Keŧe īanđđ chanđđ soor keŧe keŧe manddal đes ||

So many Indras, so many moons and suns, so many worlds and lands.

ਕੇਤੇ ਸਿਧ ਬੁਧ ਨਾਥ ਕੇਤੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਦੇਵੀ ਵੇਸ ॥

केते सिध बुध नाथ केते केते देवी वेस ॥

Keŧe siđh buđh naaŧh keŧe keŧe đevee ves ||

So many Siddhas and Buddhas, so many Yogic masters. So many goddesses of various kinds.

ਕੇਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਮੁਨਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਰਤਨ ਸਮੁੰਦ ॥

केते देव दानव मुनि केते केते रतन समुंद ॥

Keŧe đev đaanav muni keŧe keŧe raŧan samunđđ ||

So many demi-gods and demons, so many silent sages. So many oceans of jewels.

ਕੇਤੀਆ ਖਾਣੀ ਕੇਤੀਆ ਬਾਣੀ ਕੇਤੇ ਪਾਤ ਨਰਿੰਦ ॥

केतीआ खाणी केतीआ बाणी केते पात नरिंद ॥

Keŧeeâa khaañee keŧeeâa baañee keŧe paaŧ narinđđ ||

So many ways of life, so many languages. So many dynasties of rulers.

ਕੇਤੀਆ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੇਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ॥੩੫॥

केतीआ सुरती सेवक केते नानक अंतु न अंतु ॥३५॥

Keŧeeâa suraŧee sevak keŧe naanak ânŧŧu na ânŧŧu ||35||

So many intuitive people, so many selfless servants. O Nanak, His limit has no limit! ||35||


ਗਿਆਨ ਖੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਚੰਡੁ ॥

गिआन खंड महि गिआनु परचंडु ॥

Giâan khandd mahi giâanu parachanddu ||

In the realm of wisdom, spiritual wisdom reigns supreme.

ਤਿਥੈ ਨਾਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਕੋਡ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥

तिथै नाद बिनोद कोड अनंदु ॥

Ŧiŧhai naađ binođ kod ânanđđu ||

The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates there, amidst the sounds and the sights of bliss.

ਸਰਮ ਖੰਡ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਰੂਪੁ ॥

सरम खंड की बाणी रूपु ॥

Saram khandd kee baañee roopu ||

In the realm of humility, the Word is Beauty.

ਤਿਥੈ ਘਾੜਤਿ ਘੜੀਐ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਨੂਪੁ ॥

तिथै घाड़ति घड़ीऐ बहुतु अनूपु ॥

Ŧiŧhai ghaaɍaŧi ghaɍeeâi bahuŧu ânoopu ||

Forms of incomparable beauty are fashioned there.

ਤਾ ਕੀਆ ਗਲਾ ਕਥੀਆ ਨਾ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

ता कीआ गला कथीआ ना जाहि ॥

Ŧaa keeâa galaa kaŧheeâa naa jaahi ||

These things cannot be described.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥

जे को कहै पिछै पछुताइ ॥

Je ko kahai pichhai pachhuŧaaī ||

One who tries to speak of these shall regret the attempt.

ਤਿਥੈ ਘੜੀਐ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਬੁਧਿ ॥

तिथै घड़ीऐ सुरति मति मनि बुधि ॥

Ŧiŧhai ghaɍeeâi suraŧi maŧi mani buđhi ||

The intuitive consciousness, intellect and understanding of the mind are shaped there.

ਤਿਥੈ ਘੜੀਐ ਸੁਰਾ ਸਿਧਾ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ॥੩੬॥

तिथै घड़ीऐ सुरा सिधा की सुधि ॥३६॥

Ŧiŧhai ghaɍeeâi suraa siđhaa kee suđhi ||36||

The consciousness of the spiritual warriors and the Siddhas, the beings of spiritual perfection, are shaped there. ||36||


ਕਰਮ ਖੰਡ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੋਰੁ ॥

करम खंड की बाणी जोरु ॥

Karam khandd kee baañee joru ||

In the realm of karma, the Word is Power.

ਤਿਥੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰੁ ॥

तिथै होरु न कोई होरु ॥

Ŧiŧhai horu na koëe horu ||

No one else dwells there,

ਤਿਥੈ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰ ॥

तिथै जोध महाबल सूर ॥

Ŧiŧhai jođh mahaabal soor ||

Except the warriors of great power, the spiritual heroes.

ਤਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰ ॥

तिन महि रामु रहिआ भरपूर ॥

Ŧin mahi raamu rahiâa bharapoor ||

They are totally fulfilled, imbued with the Lord's Essence.

ਤਿਥੈ ਸੀਤੋ ਸੀਤਾ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

तिथै सीतो सीता महिमा माहि ॥

Ŧiŧhai seeŧo seeŧaa mahimaa maahi ||

Myriads of Sitas are there, cool and calm in their majestic glory.

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਕਥਨੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

ता के रूप न कथने जाहि ॥

Ŧaa ke roop na kaŧhane jaahi ||

Their beauty cannot be described.

ਨਾ ਓਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਨ ਠਾਗੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

ना ओहि मरहि न ठागे जाहि ॥

Naa õhi marahi na thaage jaahi ||

Neither death nor deception comes to those,

ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

जिन कै रामु वसै मन माहि ॥

Jin kai raamu vasai man maahi ||

Within whose minds the Lord abides.

ਤਿਥੈ ਭਗਤ ਵਸਹਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਅ ॥

तिथै भगत वसहि के लोअ ॥

Ŧiŧhai bhagaŧ vasahi ke loâ ||

The devotees of many worlds dwell there.

ਕਰਹਿ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਇ ॥

करहि अनंदु सचा मनि सोइ ॥

Karahi ânanđđu sachaa mani soī ||

They celebrate; their minds are imbued with the True Lord.

ਸਚ ਖੰਡਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

सच खंडि वसै निरंकारु ॥

Sach khanddi vasai nirankkaaru ||

In the realm of Truth, the Formless Lord abides.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥

करि करि वेखै नदरि निहाल ॥

Kari kari vekhai nađari nihaal ||

Having created the creation, He watches over it. By His Glance of Grace, He bestows happiness.

ਤਿਥੈ ਖੰਡ ਮੰਡਲ ਵਰਭੰਡ ॥

तिथै खंड मंडल वरभंड ॥

Ŧiŧhai khandd manddal varabhandd ||

There are planets, solar systems and galaxies.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਥੈ ਤ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਅੰਤ ॥

जे को कथै त अंत न अंत ॥

Je ko kaŧhai ŧa ânŧŧ na ânŧŧ ||

If one speaks of them, there is no limit, no end.

ਤਿਥੈ ਲੋਅ ਲੋਅ ਆਕਾਰ ॥

तिथै लोअ लोअ आकार ॥

Ŧiŧhai loâ loâ âakaar ||

There are worlds upon worlds of His Creation.

ਜਿਵ ਜਿਵ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਵੈ ਤਿਵ ਕਾਰ ॥

जिव जिव हुकमु तिवै तिव कार ॥

Jiv jiv hukamu ŧivai ŧiv kaar ||

As He commands, so they exist.

ਵੇਖੈ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਕਰਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

वेखै विगसै करि वीचारु ॥

Vekhai vigasai kari veechaaru ||

He watches over all, and contemplating the creation, He rejoices.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਥਨਾ ਕਰੜਾ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੩੭॥

नानक कथना करड़ा सारु ॥३७॥

Naanak kaŧhanaa karaɍaa saaru ||37||

O Nanak, to describe this is as hard as steel! ||37||


ਜਤੁ ਪਾਹਾਰਾ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਸੁਨਿਆਰੁ ॥

जतु पाहारा धीरजु सुनिआरु ॥

Jaŧu paahaaraa đheeraju suniâaru ||

Let self-control be the furnace, and patience the goldsmith.

ਅਹਰਣਿ ਮਤਿ ਵੇਦੁ ਹਥੀਆਰੁ ॥

अहरणि मति वेदु हथीआरु ॥

Âharañi maŧi veđu haŧheeâaru ||

Let understanding be the anvil, and spiritual wisdom the tools.

ਭਉ ਖਲਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤਪ ਤਾਉ ॥

भउ खला अगनि तप ताउ ॥

Bhaū khalaa âgani ŧap ŧaaū ||

With the Fear of God as the bellows, fan the flames of tapa, the body's inner heat.

ਭਾਂਡਾ ਭਾਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਢਾਲਿ ॥

भांडा भाउ अम्रितु तितु ढालि ॥

Bhaandaa bhaaū âmmmriŧu ŧiŧu dhaali ||

In the crucible of love, melt the Nectar of the Name,

ਘੜੀਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ॥

घड़ीऐ सबदु सची टकसाल ॥

Ghaɍeeâi sabađu sachee takasaal ||

And mint the True Coin of the Shabad, the Word of God.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਰ ॥

जिन कउ नदरि करमु तिन कार ॥

Jin kaū nađari karamu ŧin kaar ||

Such is the karma of those upon whom He has cast His Glance of Grace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੩੮॥

नानक नदरी नदरि निहाल ॥३८॥

Naanak nađaree nađari nihaal ||38||

O Nanak, the Merciful Lord, by His Grace, uplifts and exalts them. ||38||

Shalok:

ਪਵਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ ॥

पवणु गुरू पाणी पिता माता धरति महतु ॥

Pavañu guroo paañee piŧaa maaŧaa đharaŧi mahaŧu ||

Air is the Guru, Water is the Father, and Earth is the Great Mother of all.

ਦਿਵਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਦਾਈ ਦਾਇਆ ਖੇਲੈ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥

दिवसु राति दुइ दाई दाइआ खेलै सगल जगतु ॥

Đivasu raaŧi đuī đaaëe đaaīâa khelai sagal jagaŧu ||

Day and night are the two nurses, in whose lap all the world is at play.

ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆ ਵਾਚੈ ਧਰਮੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

चंगिआईआ बुरिआईआ वाचै धरमु हदूरि ॥

Changgiâaëeâa buriâaëeâa vaachai đharamu hađoori ||

Good deeds and bad deeds-the record is read out in the Presence of the Lord of Dharma.

ਕਰਮੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਕੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

करमी आपो आपणी के नेड़ै के दूरि ॥

Karamee âapo âapañee ke neɍai ke đoori ||

According to their own actions, some are drawn closer, and some are driven farther away.

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਏ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥

जिनी नामु धिआइआ गए मसकति घालि ॥

Jinee naamu đhiâaīâa gaē masakaŧi ghaali ||

Those who have meditated on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and departed after having worked by the sweat of their brows

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਕੇਤੀ ਛੁਟੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

नानक ते मुख उजले केती छुटी नालि ॥१॥

Naanak ŧe mukh ūjale keŧee chhutee naali ||1||

-O Nanak, their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord, and many are saved along with them! ||1||


ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧

सो दरु रागु आसा महला १

So đaru raagu âasaa mahalaa 1

So Dar ~ That Door. Raag Aasaa, First Mehl:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Īk-õamkkaari saŧigur prsaađi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਬਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥

सो दरु तेरा केहा सो घरु केहा जितु बहि सरब समाले ॥

So đaru ŧeraa kehaa so gharu kehaa jiŧu bahi sarab samaale ||

Where is That Door of Yours, and where is That Home, in which You sit and take care of all?

ਵਾਜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਦ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਸੰਖਾ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਵਣਹਾਰੇ ॥

वाजे तेरे नाद अनेक असंखा केते तेरे वावणहारे ॥

Vaaje ŧere naađ ânek âsankkhaa keŧe ŧere vaavañahaare ||

The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates there for You, and countless musicians play all sorts of instruments there for You.

ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਗ ਪਰੀ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗਾਵਣਹਾਰੇ ॥

केते तेरे राग परी सिउ कहीअहि केते तेरे गावणहारे ॥

Keŧe ŧere raag paree siū kaheeâhi keŧe ŧere gaavañahaare ||

There are so many Ragas and musical harmonies to You; so many minstrels sing hymns of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਪਵਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो पवणु पाणी बैसंतरु गावै राजा धरमु दुआरे ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano pavañu paañee baisanŧŧaru gaavai raajaa đharamu đuâare ||

Wind, water and fire sing of You. The Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at Your Door.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਚਿਤੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो चितु गुपतु लिखि जाणनि लिखि लिखि धरमु बीचारे ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano chiŧu gupaŧu likhi jaañani likhi likhi đharamu beechaare ||

Chitr and Gupt, the angels of the conscious and the subconscious who keep the record of actions, and the Righteous Judge of Dharma who reads this record, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਈਸਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो ईसरु ब्रहमा देवी सोहनि तेरे सदा सवारे ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano ëesaru brhamaa đevee sohani ŧere sađaa savaare ||

Shiva, Brahma and the Goddess of Beauty, ever adorned by You, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो इंद्र इंद्रासणि बैठे देवतिआ दरि नाले ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano īanđđr īanđđraasañi baithe đevaŧiâa đari naale ||

Indra, seated on His Throne, sings of You, with the deities at Your Door.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਸਾਧ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो सिध समाधी अंदरि गावनि तुधनो साध बीचारे ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano siđh samaađhee ânđđari gaavani ŧuđhano saađh beechaare ||

The Siddhas in Samaadhi sing of You; the Saadhus sing of You in contemplation.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਵੀਰ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो जती सती संतोखी गावनि तुधनो वीर करारे ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano jaŧee saŧee sanŧŧokhee gaavani ŧuđhano veer karaare ||

The celibates, the fanatics, and the peacefully accepting sing of You; the fearless warriors sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਨਿ ਰਖੀਸੁਰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਵੇਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो पंडित पड़नि रखीसुर जुगु जुगु वेदा नाले ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano panddiŧ paɍani rakheesur jugu jugu veđaa naale ||

The Pandits, the religious scholars who recite the Vedas, with the supreme sages of all the ages, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਮੋਹਣੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो मोहणीआ मनु मोहनि सुरगु मछु पइआले ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano mohañeeâa manu mohani suragu machhu paīâale ||

The Mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties who entice hearts in paradise, in this world, and in the underworld of the subconscious, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਏ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो रतन उपाए तेरे अठसठि तीरथ नाले ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano raŧan ūpaaē ŧere âthasathi ŧeeraŧh naale ||

The celestial jewels created by You, and the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰਾ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो जोध महाबल सूरा गावनि तुधनो खाणी चारे ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano jođh mahaabal sooraa gaavani ŧuđhano khaañee chaare ||

The brave and mighty warriors sing of You. The spiritual heroes and the four sources of creation sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖੰਡ ਮੰਡਲ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

गावनि तुधनो खंड मंडल ब्रहमंडा करि करि रखे तेरे धारे ॥

Gaavani ŧuđhano khandd manddal brhamanddaa kari kari rakhe ŧere đhaare ||

The worlds, solar systems and galaxies, created and arranged by Your Hand, sing of You.

ਸੇਈ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਸਾਲੇ ॥

सेई तुधनो गावनि जो तुधु भावनि रते तेरे भगत रसाले ॥

Seëe ŧuđhano gaavani jo ŧuđhu bhaavani raŧe ŧere bhagaŧ rasaale ||

They alone sing of You, who are pleasing to Your Will. Your devotees are imbued with Your Sublime Essence.

ਹੋਰਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਮੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

होरि केते तुधनो गावनि से मै चिति न आवनि नानकु किआ बीचारे ॥

Hori keŧe ŧuđhano gaavani se mai chiŧi na âavani naanaku kiâa beechaare ||

So many others sing of You, they do not come to mind. O Nanak, how can I think of them all?

ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥

सोई सोई सदा सचु साहिबु साचा साची नाई ॥

Soëe soëe sađaa sachu saahibu saachaa saachee naaëe ||

That True Lord is True, forever True, and True is His Name.

ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਾਈ ॥

है भी होसी जाइ न जासी रचना जिनि रचाई ॥

Hai bhee hosee jaaī na jaasee rachanaa jini rachaaëe ||

He is, and shall always be. He shall not depart, even when this Universe which He has created departs.

ਰੰਗੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਭਾਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥

रंगी रंगी भाती करि करि जिनसी माइआ जिनि उपाई ॥

Ranggee ranggee bhaaŧee kari kari jinasee maaīâa jini ūpaaëe ||

He created the world, with its various colors, species of beings, and the variety of Maya.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

करि करि देखै कीता आपणा जिउ तिस दी वडिआई ॥

Kari kari đekhai keeŧaa âapañaa jiū ŧis đee vadiâaëe ||

Having created the creation, He watches over it Himself, by His Greatness.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥

जो तिसु भावै सोई करसी फिरि हुकमु न करणा जाई ॥

Jo ŧisu bhaavai soëe karasee phiri hukamu na karañaa jaaëe ||

He does whatever He pleases. No one can issue any order to Him.

ਸੋ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਤਿਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਹਣੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

सो पातिसाहु साहा पतिसाहिबु नानक रहणु रजाई ॥१॥

So paaŧisaahu saahaa paŧisaahibu naanak rahañu rajaaëe ||1||

He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will. ||1||
