Jo nar peeri nivaajiaa tinhaa ancch na laag ||1||

Those who are blessed by their spiritual teacher are not even scratched. ||1||

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਉਮਰ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਵੰਨੜੀ ਦੇਹ ॥

फरीदा उमर सुहावड़ी संगि सुवंनड़ी देह ॥

Phareedaa umar suhaava(rr)ee sanggi suvanna(rr)ee deh ||

Fareed, blessed is the life, with such a beautiful body.

ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਪਾਈਅਨੑਿ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੇਹ ॥੨॥

विरले केई पाईअन्हि जिन्हा पिआरे नेह ॥२॥

Virale keee paaeeanhi jinhaa piaare neh ||2||

How rare are those who are found to love their Beloved Lord. ||2||

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

जपु तपु संजमु दइआ धरमु जिसु देहि सु पाए ॥

Japu tapu sanjjamu daiaa dharamu jisu dehi su paae ||

He alone obtains meditation, austerities, self-discipline, compassion and Dharmic faith, whom the Lord so blesses.

ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਹਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥

जिसु बुझाइहि अगनि आपि सो नामु धिआए ॥

Jisu bujhaaihi agani aapi so naamu dhiaae ||

He alone meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, whose fire the Lord puts out.

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਅਗਮ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਇਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥

अंतरजामी अगम पुरखु इक द्रिसटि दिखाए ॥

Anttarajaamee agam purakhu ik drisati dikhaae ||

The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, the Inaccessible Primal Lord, inspires us to look upon all with an impartial eye.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਆਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

साधसंगति कै आसरै प्रभ सिउ रंगु लाए ॥

Saadhasanggati kai aasarai prbh siu ranggu laae ||

With the support of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one falls in love with God.

ਅਉਗਣ ਕਟਿ ਮੁਖੁ ਉਜਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾਏ ॥

अउगण कटि मुखु उजला हरि नामि तराए ॥

Auga(nn) kati mukhu ujalaa hari naami taraae ||

One's faults are eradicated, and one's face becomes radiant and bright; through the Lord's Name, one crosses over.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਉ ਕਟਿਓਨੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

जनम मरण भउ कटिओनु फिरि जोनि न पाए ॥

Janam mara(nn) bhau kationu phiri joni na paae ||

The fear of birth and death is removed, and he is not reincarnated again.

ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿਅਨੁ ਲੜੁ ਆਪਿ ਫੜਾਏ ॥

अंध कूप ते काढिअनु लड़ु आपि फड़ाए ॥

Anddh koop te kaadhianu la(rr)u aapi pha(rr)aae ||

God lifts him up and pulls him out of the deep, dark pit, and attaches him to the hem of His robe.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਰਖੇ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਏ ॥੨੧॥

नानक बखसि मिलाइअनु रखे गलि लाए ॥२१॥

Naanak bakhasi milaaianu rakhe gali laae ||21||

O Nanak, God forgives him, and holds him close in His embrace. ||21||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੁਹਬਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਦੀ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲਿ ॥

मुहबति जिसु खुदाइ दी रता रंगि चलूलि ॥

Muhabati jisu khudaai dee rataa ranggi chalooli ||

One who loves God is imbued with the deep crimson color of His love.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਮੂਲਿ ॥੧॥

नानक विरले पाईअहि तिसु जन कीम न मूलि ॥१॥

Naanak virale paaeeahi tisu jan keem na mooli ||1||

O Nanak, such a person is rarely found; the value of such a humble person can never be estimated. ||1||

ਅੰਦਰੁ ਵਿਧਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਡਿਠੋਮਿ ॥

अंदरु विधा सचि नाइ बाहरि भी सचु डिठोमि ॥

Anddaru vidhaa sachi naai baahari bhee sachu dithomi ||

The True Name has pierced the nucleus of my self deep within. Outside, I see the True Lord as well.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵਿਆ ਹਭ ਥਾਇ ਵਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਰੋਮਿ ॥੨॥

नानक रविआ हभ थाइ वणि त्रिणि त्रिभवणि रोमि ॥२॥

Naanak raviaa habh thaai va(nn)i tri(nn)i tribhava(nn)i romi ||2||

O Nanak, He is pervading and permeating all places, the forests and the meadows, the three worlds, and every hair. ||2||

He Himself created the Universe; He Himself imbues it.

ਆਪੇ ਹੋਇਓ ਇਕੁ ਆਪੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਤਿਆ ॥

आपे होइओ इकु आपे बहु भतिआ ॥

Aape hoio iku aape bahu bhatiaa ||

He Himself is One, and He Himself has numerous forms.

ਆਪੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਮੰਝਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਾਹਰਾ ॥

आपे सभना मंझि आपे बाहरा ॥

Aape sabhanaa manjjhi aape baaharaa ||

He Himself is within all, and He Himself is beyond them.

ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਹਰਾ ॥

आपे जाणहि दूरि आपे ही जाहरा ॥

Aape jaa(nn)ahi doori aape hee jaaharaa ||

He Himself is known to be far away, and He Himself is right here.

ਆਪੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਪਰਗਟੀਐ ॥

आपे होवहि गुपतु आपे परगटीऐ ॥

Aape hovahi gupatu aape paragateeai ||

He Himself is hidden, and He Himself is revealed.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਤੇਰੀ ਥਟੀਐ ॥

कीमति किसै न पाइ तेरी थटीऐ ॥

Keemati kisai na paai teree thateeai ||

No one can estimate the value of Your Creation, Lord.

ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਗਣਤੁ ਤੂੰ ॥

गहिर ग्मभीरु अथाहु अपारु अगणतु तूं ॥

Gahir gambbheeru athaahu apaaru aga(nn)atu toonn ||

You are deep and profound, unfathomable, infinite and invaluable.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਤੂੰ ॥੨੨॥੧॥੨॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥

नानक वरतै इकु इको इकु तूं ॥२२॥१॥२॥ सुधु ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਰਾਮ ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

राम हउ किआ जाना किआ भावै ॥

Raam hau kiaa jaanaa kiaa bhaavai ||

O Lord, how can I know what pleases You?

ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਰਸਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मनि पिआस बहुतु दरसावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Mani piaas bahutu darasaavai ||1|| rahaau ||

Within my mind is such a great thirst for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੋਈ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਰੁਚ ਆਵੈ ॥

सोई गिआनी सोई जनु तेरा जिसु ऊपरि रुच आवै ॥

Soee giaanee soee janu teraa jisu upari ruch aavai ||

He alone is a spiritual teacher, and he alone is Your humble servant, to whom You have given Your approval.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਸੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥੧॥

क्रिपा करहु जिसु पुरख बिधाते सो सदा सदा तुधु धिआवै ॥१॥

Kripaa karahu jisu purakh bidhaate so sadaa sadaa tudhu dhiaavai ||1||

He alone meditates on You forever and ever, O Primal Lord, O Architect of Destiny, unto whom You grant Your Grace. ||1||

ਕਵਨ ਜੋਗ ਕਵਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨਾ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨੀ ਰੀਝਾਵੈ ॥

कवन जोग कवन गिआन धिआना कवन गुनी रीझावै ॥

Kavan jog kavan giaan dhiaanaa kavan gunee reejhaavai ||

What sort of Yoga, what spiritual wisdom and meditation, and what virtues please You?

ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਜ ਭਗਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

सोई जनु सोई निज भगता जिसु ऊपरि रंगु लावै ॥२॥

Soee janu soee nij bhagataa jisu upari ranggu laavai ||2||

He alone is a humble servant, and he alone is God's own devotee, with whom You are in love. ||2||

ਸਾਈ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਈ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰਾਵੈ ॥

साई मति साई बुधि सिआनप जितु निमख न प्रभु बिसरावै ॥

Saaee mati saaee budhi siaanap jitu nimakh na prbhu bisaraavai ||

That alone is intelligence, that alone is wisdom and cleverness, which inspires one to never forget God, even for an instant.

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲਗਿ ਏਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੩॥

संतसंगि लगि एहु सुखु पाइओ हरि गुन सद ही गावै ॥३॥

Santtasanggi lagi ehu sukhu paaio hari gun sad hee gaavai ||3||

Joining the Society of the Saints, I have found this peace, singing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||

ਦੇਖਿਓ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਮਹਾ ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਨ ਨਹੀ ਦਿਸਟਾਵੈ ॥

देखिओ अचरजु महा मंगल रूप किछु आन नही दिसटावै ॥

Dekhio acharaju mahaa manggal roop kichhu aan nahee disataavai ||

I have seen the Wondrous Lord, the embodiment of supreme bliss, and now, I see nothing else at all.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਲਾਹਿਓ ਤਹ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਕਹ ਆਵੈ ॥੪॥੧॥

कहु नानक मोरचा गुरि लाहिओ तह गरभ जोनि कह आवै ॥४॥१॥

Kahu naanak morachaa guri laahio tah garabh joni kah aavai ||4||1||

Says Nanak, the Guru has rubbed sway the rust; now how could I ever enter the womb of reincarnation again? ||4||1||

Whatever You do is sweet to my mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਜੀਓ ॥

आगिआ मानि जानि सुखु पाइआ सुनि सुनि नामु तुहारो जीओ ॥

Aagiaa maani jaani sukhu paaiaa suni suni naamu tuhaaro jeeo ||

Understanding and obeying Your Order, I have found peace; hearing, listening to Your Name, I live.

ਈਹਾਂ ਊਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੀਓ ॥੧॥

ईहां ऊहा हरि तुम ही तुम ही इहु गुर ते मंत्रु द्रिड़ीओ ॥१॥

Eehaan uhaa hari tum hee tum hee ihu gur te manttru dri(rr)eeo ||1||

Here and hereafter, O Lord, You, only You. The Guru has implanted this Mantra within me. ||1||

ਜਬ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਾਈ ਏਹ ਬਾਤਾ ਤਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਖੇਮ ਸਭ ਥੀਓ ॥

जब ते जानि पाई एह बाता तब कुसल खेम सभ थीओ ॥

Jab te jaani paaee eh baataa tab kusal khem sabh theeo ||

Since I came to realize this, I have been blessed with total peace and pleasure.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਓ ਆਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ਬੀਓ ॥੨॥੧॥੨॥

साधसंगि नानक परगासिओ आन नाही रे बीओ ॥२॥१॥२॥

Saadhasanggi naanak paragaasio aan naahee re beeo ||2||1||2||

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, this has been revealed to Nanak, and now, there is no other for him at all. ||2||1||2||

Whoever has You for support,

ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਪੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जम की त्रास मिटी सुखु पाइआ निकसी हउमै पीर ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jam kee traas mitee sukhu paaiaa nikasee haumai peer ||1|| rahaau ||

Has the fear of death removed; peace is found, and the disease of egotism is taken away. ||1|| Pause ||

ਤਪਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਨੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਖੀਰ ॥

तपति बुझानी अम्रित बानी त्रिपते जिउ बारिक खीर ॥

Tapati bujhaanee ammmrit baanee tripate jiu baarik kheer ||

The fire within is quenched, and one is satisfied through the Ambrosial Word of the Guru's Bani, as the baby is satisfied by milk.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਬੀਰ ॥੧॥

मात पिता साजन संत मेरे संत सहाई बीर ॥१॥

Maat pitaa saajan santt mere santt sahaaee beer ||1||

The Saints are my mother, father and friends. The Saints are my help and support, and my brothers. ||1||

ਖੁਲੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੀਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ਹੀਰੈ ਬੇਧੇ ਹੀਰ ॥

खुले भ्रम भीति मिले गोपाला हीरै बेधे हीर ॥

Khule bhrm bheeti mile gopaalaa heerai bedhe heer ||

The doors of doubt are thrown open, and I have met the Lord of the World; God's diamond has pierced the diamond of my mind.

ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਗੁਨੀ ਗਹੀਰ ॥੨॥੨॥੩॥

बिसम भए नानक जसु गावत ठाकुर गुनी गहीर ॥२॥२॥३॥

Bisam bhae naanak jasu gaavat thaakur gunee gaheer ||2||2||3||

Nanak blossoms forth in ecstasy, singing the Lord's Praises; my Lord and Master is the ocean of virtue. ||2||2||3||

ਅਪਨਾ ਜਨੁ ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਉਧਾਰਿਓ ॥

Apanaa janu aapahi aapi udhaario ||

He Himself saves His humble servant.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸਿਓ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आठ पहर जन कै संगि बसिओ मन ते नाहि बिसारिओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Aath pahar jan kai sanggi basio man te naahi bisaario ||1|| rahaau ||

Twenty-four hours a day, He dwells with His humble servant; He never forgets him from His Mind. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬਰਨੁ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਕੁਲੁ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਓ ॥

बरनु चिहनु नाही किछु पेखिओ दास का कुलु न बिचारिओ ॥

Baranu chihanu naahee kichhu pekhio daas kaa kulu na bichaario ||

The Lord does not look at his color or form; He does not consider the ancestry of His slave.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਓ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਸਵਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥

करि किरपा नामु हरि दीओ सहजि सुभाइ सवारिओ ॥१॥

Kari kirapaa naamu hari deeo sahaji subhaai savaario ||1||

Granting His Grace, the Lord blesses him with His Name, and embellishes him with intuitive ease. ||1||

ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਓ ॥

महा बिखमु अगनि का सागरु तिस ते पारि उतारिओ ॥

Mahaa bikhamu agani kaa saagaru tis te paari utaario ||

The ocean of fire is treacherous and difficult, but he is carried across.

ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਗਸਾਨੋ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥੩॥੪॥

पेखि पेखि नानक बिगसानो पुनह पुनह बलिहारिओ ॥२॥३॥४॥

Pekhi pekhi naanak bigasaano punah punah balihaario ||2||3||4||

Seeing, seeing Him, Nanak blossoms forth, over and over again, a sacrifice to Him. ||2||3||4||

One who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, within his mind

ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਰਹਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कोटि अप्राध मिटहि खिन भीतरि ता का दुखु न रहिओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Khojat khojat bhaio bairaagee saadhoo sanggi lahio ||

Seeking and searching, I have become detached; I have found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਗਹਿਓ ॥੧॥

सगल तिआगि एक लिव लागी हरि हरि चरन गहिओ ॥१॥

Sagal tiaagi ek liv laagee hari hari charan gahio ||1||

Renouncing everything, I am lovingly focused on the One Lord. I grab hold of the feet of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||

ਕਹਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਸੁਨਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਇਓ ॥

कहत मुकत सुनते निसतारे जो जो सरनि पइओ ॥

Kahat mukat sunate nisataare jo jo sarani paio ||

Whoever chants His Name is liberated; whoever listens to it is saved, as is anyone who seeks His Sanctuary.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਓ ॥੨॥੪॥੫॥

सिमरि सिमरि सुआमी प्रभु अपुना कहु नानक अनदु भइओ ॥२॥४॥५॥

Simari simari suaamee prbhu apunaa kahu naanak anadu bhaio ||2||4||5||

Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God the Lord and Master, says Nanak, I am in ecstasy! ||2||4||5||

I am in love with Your Lotus Feet.

ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਮੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सुख सागर करि परम गति मोरी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sukh saagar kari param gati moree ||1|| rahaau ||

O Lord, ocean of peace, please bless me with the supreme status. ||1|| Pause ||

ਅੰਚਲਾ ਗਹਾਇਓ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਮਨੁ ਬੀਧੋ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਖੋਰੀ ॥

अंचला गहाइओ जन अपुने कउ मनु बीधो प्रेम की खोरी ॥

Ancchalaa gahaaio jan apune kau manu beedho prem kee khoree ||

He has inspired His humble servant to grasp the hem of His robe; his mind is pierced through with the intoxication of divine love.

ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਜਾਲੀ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੧॥

जसु गावत भगति रसु उपजिओ माइआ की जाली तोरी ॥१॥

Jasu gaavat bhagati rasu upajio maaiaa kee jaalee toree ||1||

Singing His Praises, love wells up within the devotee, and the trap of Maya is broken. ||1||

ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਨ ਨ ਪੇਖਉ ਹੋਰੀ ॥

पूरन पूरि रहे किरपा निधि आन न पेखउ होरी ॥

Pooran poori rahe kirapaa nidhi aan na pekhau horee ||

The Lord, the ocean of mercy, is all-pervading, permeating everywhere; I do not see any other at all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਓ ਦਾਸੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਥੋਰੀ ॥੨॥੫॥੬॥

नानक मेलि लीओ दासु अपुना प्रीति न कबहू थोरी ॥२॥५॥६॥

Naanak meli leeo daasu apunaa preeti na kabahoo thoree ||2||5||6||

He has united slave Nanak with Himself; His Love never diminishes. ||2||5||6||

Mere man japu japi hari naaraai(nn) ||

O my mind, chant, and meditate on the Lord.

ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कबहू न बिसरहु मन मेरे ते आठ पहर गुन गाइण ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kabahoo na bisarahu man mere te aath pahar gun gaai(nn) ||1|| rahaau ||

I shall never forget Him from my mind; twenty-four hours a day, I sing His Glorious Praises. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਉ ਨਿਤ ਮਜਨੁ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਗਵਾਇਣ ॥

साधू धूरि करउ नित मजनु सभ किलबिख पाप गवाइण ॥

Saadhoo dhoori karau nit majanu sabh kilabikh paap gavaai(nn) ||

I take my daily cleansing bath in the dust of the feet of the Holy, and I am rid of all my sins.

ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ॥੧॥

पूरन पूरि रहे किरपा निधि घटि घटि दिसटि समाइणु ॥१॥

Pooran poori rahe kirapaa nidhi ghati ghati disati samaai(nn)u ||1||

The Lord, the ocean of mercy, is all-pervading, permeating everywhere; He is seen to be contained in each and every heart. ||1||

ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਲਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਣ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਲਾਇਣ ॥

जाप ताप कोटि लख पूजा हरि सिमरण तुलि न लाइण ॥

Jaap taap koti lakh poojaa hari simara(nn) tuli na laai(nn) ||

Hundreds of thousands and millions of meditations, austerities and worships are not equal to remembering the Lord in meditation.

ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਇਣੁ ॥੨॥੬॥੭॥

दुइ कर जोड़ि नानकु दानु मांगै तेरे दासनि दास दसाइणु ॥२॥६॥७॥

Dui kar jo(rr)i naanaku daanu maangai tere daasani daas dasaai(nn)u ||2||6||7||

With his palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this blessing, that he may become the slave of the slaves of Your slaves. ||2||6||7||

The treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is everything for me.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

करि किरपा साधू संगि मिलिओ सतिगुरि दीनो दानु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kari kirapaa saadhoo sanggi milio satiguri deeno daanu ||1|| rahaau ||

Granting His Grace, He has led me to join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; the True Guru has granted this gift. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਹਾਰਾ ਗਾਉ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥

सुखदाता दुख भंजनहारा गाउ कीरतनु पूरन गिआनु ॥

Sukhadaataa dukh bhanjjanahaaraa gaau keeratanu pooran giaanu ||

Sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the Lord, the Giver of peace, the Destroyer of pain; He shall bless you with perfect spiritual wisdom.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਕੀਨੑੇ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਮੂੜ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥

कामु क्रोधु लोभु खंड खंड कीन्हे बिनसिओ मूड़ अभिमानु ॥१॥

Kaamu krodhu lobhu khandd khandd keenhe binasio moo(rr) abhimaanu ||1||

Sexual desire, anger and greed shall be shattered and destroyed, and your foolish ego will be dispelled. ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਨੁ ॥

किआ गुण तेरे आखि वखाणा प्रभ अंतरजामी जानु ॥

Kiaa gu(nn) tere aakhi vakhaa(nn)aa prbh anttarajaamee jaanu ||

What Glorious Virtues of Yours should I chant? O God, You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥੭॥੮॥

चरन कमल सरनि सुख सागर नानकु सद कुरबानु ॥२॥७॥८॥

I seek the Sanctuary of Your Lotus Feet, O Lord, ocean of peace; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||7||8||

Hau vaari vaari jaau gur gopaal ||1|| rahaau ||

I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Guru, the Lord of the World. ||1|| Pause ||

ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਤੁਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੧॥

मोहि निरगुन तुम पूरन दाते दीना नाथ दइआल ॥१॥

Mohi niragun tum pooran daate deenaa naath daiaal ||1||

I am unworthy; You are the Perfect Giver. You are the Merciful Master of the meek. ||1||

ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਤ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਧਨ ਮਾਲ ॥੨॥

ऊठत बैठत सोवत जागत जीअ प्रान धन माल ॥२॥

Uthat baithat sovat jaagat jeea praan dhan maal ||2||

While standing up and sitting down, while sleeping and awake, You are my soul, my breath of life, my wealth and property. ||2||

ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੩॥੮॥੯॥

दरसन पिआस बहुतु मनि मेरै नानक दरस निहाल ॥३॥८॥९॥

Darasan piaas bahutu mani merai naanak daras nihaal ||3||8||9||

Within my mind there is such a great thirst for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. Nanak is enraptured with Your Glance of Grace. ||3||8||9||

Kou hai mero saajanu meetu ||

Is there any friend or companion of mine,

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ਨੀਤ ॥

हरि नामु सुनावै नीत ॥

Hari naamu sunaavai neet ||

Who will constantly share the Lord's Name with me?

ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥

बिनसै दुखु बिपरीति ॥

Binasai dukhu bipareeti ||

Will he rid me of my pains and evil tendencies?

ਸਭੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सभु अरपउ मनु तनु चीतु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sabhu arapau manu tanu cheetu ||1|| rahaau ||

I would surrender my mind, body, consciousness and everything. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਆਪਨ ਕੀਤ ॥

कोई विरला आपन कीत ॥

Koee viralaa aapan keet ||

How rare is that one whom the Lord makes His own,

ਸੰਗਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤ ॥

संगि चरन कमल मनु सीत ॥

Sanggi charan kamal manu seet ||

And whose mind is sewn into the Lord's Lotus Feet.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਤ ॥੧॥

करि किरपा हरि जसु दीत ॥१॥

Kari kirapaa hari jasu deet ||1||

Granting His Grace, the Lord blesses him with His Praise. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਭਜਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਜੀਤ ॥

हरि भजि जनमु पदारथु जीत ॥

Hari bhaji janamu padaarathu jeet ||

Vibrating, meditating on the Lord, he is victorious in this precious human life,

ਕੋਟਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਹੋਹਿ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥

कोटि पतित होहि पुनीत ॥

Koti patit hohi puneet ||

And millions of sinners are sanctified.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਕੀਤ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੦॥੧੯॥

नानक दास बलि बलि कीत ॥२॥१॥१०॥१९॥

Naanak daas bali bali keet ||2||1||10||19||

Slave Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to Him. ||2||1||10||19||

ਅਵਰ ਟਹਲਾ ਝੂਠੀਆ ਨਿਤ ਕਰੈ ਜਮੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अवर टहला झूठीआ नित करै जमु सिरि मार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Avar tahalaa jhootheeaa nit karai jamu siri maar ||1|| rahaau ||

Other services are false,and as punishment for them,the Messenger of Death bashes in one's head. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਿਨਾ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੀਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੰਗਾਰ ॥

जिना मसतकि लीखिआ ते मिले संगार ॥

Jinaa masataki leekhiaa te mile sanggaar ||

They alone join the Sangat, the Congregation, upon whose forehead such destiny is inscribed.

ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੧॥

संसारु भउजलु तारिआ हरि संत पुरख अपार ॥१॥

Sanssaaru bhaujalu taariaa hari santt purakh apaar ||1||

They are carried across the terrifying world-ocean by the Saints of the Infinite, Primal Lord God. ||1||

ਨਿਤ ਚਰਨ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਤਜਿ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥

नित चरन सेवहु साध के तजि लोभ मोह बिकार ॥

Nit charan sevahu saadh ke taji lobh moh bikaar ||

Serve forever at the feet of the Holy; renounce greed, emotional attachment and corruption.

ਸਭ ਤਜਹੁ ਦੂਜੀ ਆਸੜੀ ਰਖੁ ਆਸ ਇਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥੨॥

सभ तजहु दूजी आसड़ी रखु आस इक निरंकार ॥२॥

Sabh tajahu doojee aasa(rr)ee rakhu aas ik nirankkaar ||2||

Abandon all other hopes, and rest your hopes in the One Formless Lord. ||2||

ਇਕਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਸਾਕਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰ ॥

इकि भरमि भूले साकता बिनु गुर अंध अंधार ॥

Iki bharami bhoole saakataa binu gur anddh anddhaar ||

Some are faithless cynics, deluded by doubt; without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness.

ਧੁਰਿ ਹੋਵਨਾ ਸੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਕੋ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰ ॥੩॥

धुरि होवना सु होइआ को न मेटणहार ॥३॥

Dhuri hovanaa su hoiaa ko na meta(nn)ahaar ||3||

Whatever is pre-ordained, comes to pass; no one can erase it. ||3||

ਅਗਮ ਰੂਪੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

अगम रूपु गोबिंद का अनिक नाम अपार ॥

Agam roopu gobindd kaa anik naam apaar ||

The beauty of the Lord of the Universe is profound and unfathomable; the Names of the Infinite Lord are innumerable.

ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰ ॥੪॥੧॥

धनु धंनु ते जन नानका जिन हरि नामा उरि धार ॥४॥१॥

Dhanu dhannu te jan naanakaa jin hari naamaa uri dhaar ||4||1||

Blessed, blessed are those humble beings, O Nanak, who enshrine the Lord's Name in their hearts. ||4||1||

ਮਾਲੀ ਗਉੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

माली गउड़ा महला ५ ॥

Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਉ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥

राम नाम कउ नमसकार ॥

Raam naam kau namasakaar ||

I humbly bow to the Name of the Lord.

ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਹੋਵਤ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जासु जपत होवत उधार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jaasu japat hovat udhaar ||1|| rahaau ||

Chanting it, one is saved. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਧੰਧ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि मिटहि धंध ॥

Jaa kai simarani mitahi dhanddh ||

Meditating on Him in remembrance, conflicts are ended.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਬੰਧ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि छूटहि बंध ॥

Jaa kai simarani chhootahi banddh ||

Meditating on Him, one's bonds are untied.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਚਤੁਰ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि मूरख चतुर ॥

Jaa kai simarani moorakh chatur ||

Meditating on Him, the fool becomes wise.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕੁਲਹ ਉਧਰ ॥੧॥

जा कै सिमरनि कुलह उधर ॥१॥

Jaa kai simarani kulah udhar ||1||

Meditating on Him, one's ancestors are saved. ||1||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਭਉ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੈ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि भउ दुख हरै ॥

Jaa kai simarani bhau dukh harai ||

Meditating on Him, fear and pain are taken away.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਅਪਦਾ ਟਰੈ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि अपदा टरै ॥

Jaa kai simarani apadaa tarai ||

Meditating on Him, misfortune is avoided.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਮੁਚਤ ਪਾਪ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि मुचत पाप ॥

Jaa kai simarani muchat paap ||

Meditating on Him, sins are erased.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥੨॥

जा कै सिमरनि नही संताप ॥२॥

Jaa kai simarani nahee santtaap ||2||

Meditating on Him, agony is ended. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਰਿਦ ਬਿਗਾਸ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि रिद बिगास ॥

Jaa kai simarani rid bigaas ||

Meditating on Him, the heart blossoms forth.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕਵਲਾ ਦਾਸਿ ॥

जा कै सिमरनि कवला दासि ॥

Jaa kai simarani kavalaa daasi ||

जा कै सिमरनि निधि निधान ॥

Jaa kai simarani nidhi nidhaan ||

Meditating on Him, one is blessed with the treasures of wealth.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤਰੇ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥੩॥

जा कै सिमरनि तरे निदान ॥३॥

Jaa kai simarani tare nidaan ||3||

Meditating on Him, one crosses over in the end. ||3||

ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੀ ॥

पतित पावनु नामु हरी ॥

Patit paavanu naamu haree ||

The Name of the Lord is the Purifier of sinners.

ਕੋਟਿ ਭਗਤ ਉਧਾਰੁ ਕਰੀ ॥

कोटि भगत उधारु करी ॥

Koti bhagat udhaaru karee ||

It saves millions of devotees.

ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਾ ਦੀਨੁ ਸਰਨ ॥

हरि दास दासा दीनु सरन ॥

Hari daas daasaa deenu saran ||

I am meek; I seek the Sanctuary of the slaves of the Lord's slaves.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਥਾ ਸੰਤ ਚਰਨ ॥੪॥੨॥

नानक माथा संत चरन ॥४॥२॥

Naanak maathaa santt charan ||4||2||

Nanak lays his forehead on the feet of the Saints. ||4||2||

Aiso sahaaee hari ko naam ||

This is the sort of helper the Name of the Lord is.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

साधसंगति भजु पूरन काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saadhasanggati bhaju pooran kaam ||1|| rahaau ||

Meditating in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one's affairs are perfectly resolved. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬੂਡਤ ਕਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਬੇੜੀ ਮਿਲਤ ॥

बूडत कउ जैसे बेड़ी मिलत ॥

Boodat kau jaise be(rr)ee milat ||

It is like a boat to a drowning man.

ਬੂਝਤ ਦੀਪਕ ਮਿਲਤ ਤਿਲਤ ॥

बूझत दीपक मिलत तिलत ॥

Boojhat deepak milat tilat ||

It is like oil to the lamp whose flame is dying out.

ਜਲਤ ਅਗਨੀ ਮਿਲਤ ਨੀਰ ॥

जलत अगनी मिलत नीर ॥

Jalat aganee milat neer ||

It is like water poured on the burning fire.

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਮੁਖਹਿ ਖੀਰ ॥੧॥

जैसे बारिक मुखहि खीर ॥१॥

Jaise baarik mukhahi kheer ||1||

It is like milk poured into the baby's mouth. ||1||

ਜੈਸੇ ਰਣ ਮਹਿ ਸਖਾ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ॥

जैसे रण महि सखा भ्रात ॥

Jaise ra(nn) mahi sakhaa bhraat ||

As one's brother becomes a helper on the field of battle;

ਜੈਸੇ ਭੂਖੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਮਾਤ ॥

जैसे भूखे भोजन मात ॥

Jaise bhookhe bhojan maat ||

As one's hunger is satisfied by food;

ਜੈਸੇ ਕਿਰਖਹਿ ਬਰਸ ਮੇਘ ॥

जैसे किरखहि बरस मेघ ॥

Jaise kirakhahi baras megh ||

As the cloudburst saves the crops;

ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਲਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੇਂਘ ॥੨॥

जैसे पालन सरनि सेंघ ॥२॥

Jaise paalan sarani sengh ||2||

As one is protected in the tiger's lair; ||2||

ਗਰੁੜ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਰਪ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥

गरुड़ मुखि नही सरप त्रास ॥

Garu(rr) mukhi nahee sarap traas ||

As with the magic spell of Garuda the eagle upon one's lips, one does not fear the snake;

ਸੂਆ ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਖਾਇ ਬਿਲਾਸੁ ॥

सूआ पिंजरि नही खाइ बिलासु ॥

Sooaa pinjjari nahee khaai bilaasu ||

As the cat cannot eat the parrot in its cage;

ਜੈਸੋ ਆਂਡੋ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

जैसो आंडो हिरदे माहि ॥

Jaiso aando hirade maahi ||

As the bird cherishes her eggs in her heart;

ਜੈਸੋ ਦਾਨੋ ਚਕੀ ਦਰਾਹਿ ॥੩॥

जैसो दानो चकी दराहि ॥३॥

Jaiso daano chakee daraahi ||3||

As the grains are spared, by sticking to the central post of the mill; ||3||

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਓਪਮਾ ਥੋਰ ਕਹੀ ॥

बहुतु ओपमा थोर कही ॥

Bahutu opamaa thor kahee ||

Your Glory is so great; I can describe only a tiny bit of it.

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਤੁਹੀ ॥

हरि अगम अगम अगाधि तुही ॥

Hari agam agam agaadhi tuhee ||

O Lord, You are inaccessible, unapproachable and unfathomable.

ਊਚ ਮੂਚੌ ਬਹੁ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

ऊच मूचौ बहु अपार ॥

Uch moochau bahu apaar ||

You are lofty and high, utterly great and infinite.

ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰੇ ਸਾਰ ॥੪॥੩॥

सिमरत नानक तरे सार ॥४॥३॥

Simarat naanak tare saar ||4||3||

Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, O Nanak, one is carried across. ||4||3||

Please let my works be rewarding and fruitful.

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਿਵਾਜਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अपुने दास कउ लेहु निवाजि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Apune daas kau lehu nivaaji ||1|| rahaau ||

Please cherish and exalt Your slave. ||1|| Pause ||

चरन संतह माथ मोर ॥

Charan santtah maath mor ||

I lay my forehead on the feet of the Saints,

ਨੈਨਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਉ ਨਿਸਿ ਭੋਰ ॥

नैनि दरसु पेखउ निसि भोर ॥

Naini darasu pekhau nisi bhor ||

And with my eyes, I gaze upon the Blessed Vision of their Darshan, day and night.

ਹਸਤ ਹਮਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਟਹਲ ॥

हसत हमरे संत टहल ॥

Hasat hamare santt tahal ||

With my hands, I work for the Saints.

ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਬਹਲ ॥੧॥

प्रान मनु धनु संत बहल ॥१॥

Praan manu dhanu santt bahal ||1||

I dedicate my breath of life, my mind and wealth to the Saints. ||1||

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

संतसंगि मेरे मन की प्रीति ॥

Santtasanggi mere man kee preeti ||

My mind loves the Society of the Saints.

ਸੰਤ ਗੁਨ ਬਸਹਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਚੀਤਿ ॥

संत गुन बसहि मेरै चीति ॥

Santt gun basahi merai cheeti ||

The Virtues of the Saints abide within my consciousness.

ਸੰਤ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਨਹਿ ਮੀਠ ॥

संत आगिआ मनहि मीठ ॥

Santt aagiaa manahi meeth ||

The Will of the Saints is sweet to my mind.

ਮੇਰਾ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸੰਤ ਡੀਠ ॥੨॥

मेरा कमलु बिगसै संत डीठ ॥२॥

Meraa kamalu bigasai santt deeth ||2||

Seeing the Saints, my heart-lotus blossoms forth. ||2||

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥

संतसंगि मेरा होइ निवासु ॥

Santtasanggi meraa hoi nivaasu ||

I dwell in the Society of the Saints.

ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਆਸ ॥

संतन की मोहि बहुतु पिआस ॥

Santtan kee mohi bahutu piaas ||

I have such a great thirst for the Saints.

ਸੰਤ ਬਚਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਮੰਤ ॥

संत बचन मेरे मनहि मंत ॥

Santt bachan mere manahi mantt ||

The Words of the Saints are the Mantras of my mind.

ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਹੰਤ ॥੩॥

संत प्रसादि मेरे बिखै हंत ॥३॥

Santt prsaadi mere bikhai hantt ||3||

By the Grace of the Saints, my corruption is taken away. ||3||

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਏਹਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥

मुकति जुगति एहा निधान ॥

Mukati jugati ehaa nidhaan ||

This way of liberation is my treasure.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨ ॥

प्रभ दइआल मोहि देवहु दान ॥

Prbh daiaal mohi devahu daan ||

O Merciful God, please bless me with this gift.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

नानक कउ प्रभ दइआ धारि ॥

Naanak kau prbh daiaa dhaari ||

O God, shower Your Mercy upon Nanak.

ਚਰਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੪॥

चरन संतन के मेरे रिदे मझारि ॥४॥४॥

Charan santtan ke mere ride majhaari ||4||4||

I have enshrined the feet of the Saints within my heart. ||4||4||

Sabh kai sanggee naahee doori ||

He is with all; He is not far away.

ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਹਾਜਰਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

करन करावन हाजरा हजूरि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Karan karaavan haajaraa hajoori ||1|| rahaau ||

He is the Cause of causes, ever-present here and now. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸੁਨਤ ਜੀਓ ਜਾਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

सुनत जीओ जासु नामु ॥

Sunat jeeo jaasu naamu ||

Hearing His Name, one comes to life.

ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਕੀਓ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥

दुख बिनसे सुख कीओ बिस्रामु ॥

Dukh binase sukh keeo bisraamu ||

Pain is dispelled; peace and tranquility come to dwell within.

ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ॥

सगल निधि हरि हरि हरे ॥

Sagal nidhi hari hari hare ||

The Lord, Har, Har, is all treasure.

ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥

मुनि जन ता की सेव करे ॥१॥

Muni jan taa kee sev kare ||1||

The silent sages serve Him. ||1||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥

जा कै घरि सगले समाहि ॥

Jaa kai ghari sagale samaahi ||

Everything is contained in His home.

ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

जिस ते बिरथा कोइ नाहि ॥

Jis te birathaa koi naahi ||

No one is turned away empty-handed.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥

जीअ जंत्र करे प्रतिपाल ॥

Jeea janttr kare prtipaal ||

He cherishes all beings and creatures.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੨॥

सदा सदा सेवहु किरपाल ॥२॥

Sadaa sadaa sevahu kirapaal ||2||

Forever and ever, serve the Merciful Lord. ||2||

ਸਦਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਦੀਬਾਣਿ ॥

सदा धरमु जा कै दीबाणि ॥

Sadaa dharamu jaa kai deebaa(nn)i ||

Righteous justice is dispensed in His Court forever.

ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਣਿ ॥

बेमुहताज नही किछु काणि ॥

Bemuhataaj nahee kichhu kaa(nn)i ||

He is carefree, and owes allegiance to no one.

ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਨਾ ਆਪਨ ਆਪਿ ॥

सभ किछु करना आपन आपि ॥

Sabh kichhu karanaa aapan aapi ||

He Himself, by Himself, does everything.

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੩॥

रे मन मेरे तू ता कउ जापि ॥३॥

Re man mere too taa kau jaapi ||3||

O my mind, meditate on Him. ||3||

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥

साधसंगति कउ हउ बलिहार ॥

Saadhasanggati kau hau balihaar ||

I am a sacrifice to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਜਾਸੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥

जासु मिलि होवै उधारु ॥

Jaasu mili hovai udhaaru ||

Joining them, I am saved.

ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨ ਤਨਹਿ ਰਾਤ ॥

नाम संगि मन तनहि रात ॥

Naam sanggi man tanahi raat ||

My mind and body are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥੪॥੫॥

नानक कउ प्रभि करी दाति ॥४॥५॥

Naanak kau prbhi karee daati ||4||5||

God has blessed Nanak with this gift. ||4||5||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਹਰਿ ਸਮਰਥ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥

हरि समरथ की सरना ॥

Hari samarath kee saranaa ||

I seek the Sanctuary of the all-powerful Lord.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जीउ पिंडु धनु रासि मेरी प्रभ एक कारन करना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jeeu pinddu dhanu raasi meree prbh ek kaaran karanaa ||1|| rahaau ||

My soul, body, wealth and capital belong to the One God, the Cause of causes. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੀਵਣੈ ਕਾ ਮੂਲੁ ॥

सिमरि सिमरि सदा सुखु पाईऐ जीवणै का मूलु ॥

Simari simari sadaa sukhu paaeeai jeeva(nn)ai kaa moolu ||

Meditating, meditating in remembrance on Him, I have found everlasting peace. He is the source of life.

ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬਤ ਠਾਈ ਸੂਖਮੋ ਅਸਥੂਲ ॥੧॥

रवि रहिआ सरबत ठाई सूखमो असथूल ॥१॥

Ravi rahiaa sarabat thaaee sookhamo asathool ||1||

He is all-pervading, permeating all places; He is in subtle essence and manifest form. ||1||

ਆਲ ਜਾਲ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਤਜਿ ਸਭਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨਾ ਨਿਤਿ ਗਾਉ ॥

आल जाल बिकार तजि सभि हरि गुना निति गाउ ॥

Aal jaal bikaar taji sabhi hari gunaa niti gaau ||

Abandon all your entanglements and corruption; sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord forever.

ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਦੇਹੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥੧॥੬॥

कर जोड़ि नानकु दानु मांगै देहु अपना नाउ ॥२॥१॥६॥

Kar jo(rr)i naanaku daanu maangai dehu apanaa naau ||2||1||6||

With palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this blessing; please bless me with Your Name. ||2||1||6||

ਕਉਨੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਚਲਿਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कउनु जानै चलित तेरे किछु अंतु नाही पार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kaunu jaanai chalit tere kichhu anttu naahee paar ||1|| rahaau ||

Who knows Your wondrous plays? You have no end or limitation. ||1|| Pause ||

ਇਕ ਖਿਨਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਦਾ ਘੜਿ ਭੰਨਿ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ॥

इक खिनहि थापि उथापदा घड़ि भंनि करनैहारु ॥

Ik khinahi thaapi uthaapadaa gha(rr)i bhanni karanaihaaru ||

In an instant, You establish and disestablish; You create and destroy, O Creator Lord.

ਜੇਤ ਕੀਨ ਉਪਾਰਜਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥੧॥

जेत कीन उपारजना प्रभु दानु देइ दातार ॥१॥

Jet keen upaarajanaa prbhu daanu dei daataar ||1||

As many beings as You created, God, so many You bless with Your blessings. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਊਚ ਅਗਮ ਮੁਰਾਰ ॥

हरि सरनि आइओ दासु तेरा प्रभ ऊच अगम मुरार ॥

Hari sarani aaio daasu teraa prbh uch agam muraar ||

I have come to Your Sanctuary, Lord; I am Your slave, O Inaccessible Lord God.

ਕਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਭਉਜਲ ਬਿਖਮ ਤੇ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੨॥੨॥੭॥

कढि लेहु भउजल बिखम ते जनु नानकु सद बलिहार ॥२॥२॥७॥

Kadhi lehu bhaujal bikham te janu naanaku sad balihaar ||2||2||7||

Lift me up and pull me out of the terrifying, treacherous world-ocean; servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||2||7||

ਦੀਨ ਬਾਂਧਵ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

दीन बांधव भगति वछल सदा सदा क्रिपाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Deen baandhav bhagati vachhal sadaa sadaa kripaal ||1|| rahaau ||

Friend of the meek, Lover of His devotees, forever and ever merciful. ||1|| Pause ||

ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

आदि अंते मधि तूहै प्रभ बिना नाही कोइ ॥

Aadi antte madhi toohai prbh binaa naahee koi ||

In the beginning, in the end and in the middle, You alone exist, God; there is none other than You.

ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਮੰਡਲ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥

पूरि रहिआ सगल मंडल एकु सुआमी सोइ ॥१॥

Poori rahiaa sagal manddal eku suaamee soi ||1||

He is totally permeating and pervading all worlds; He is the One and only Lord and Master. ||1||

करनि हरि जसु नेत्र दरसनु रसनि हरि गुन गाउ ॥

Karani hari jasu netr darasanu rasani hari gun gaau ||

With my ears I hear God's Praises, and with my eyes I behold the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; with my tongue I sing the Lord's Glorious Praises.

ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ਜਾਏ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥੩॥੮॥੬॥੧੪॥

बलिहारि जाए सदा नानकु देहु अपणा नाउ ॥२॥३॥८॥६॥१४॥

Balihaari jaae sadaa naanaku dehu apa(nn)aa naau ||2||3||8||6||14||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਡਰਪੈ ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਨਖੵਤ੍ਰਾ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਅਮਰੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ ॥

डरपै धरति अकासु नख्यत्रा सिर ऊपरि अमरु करारा ॥

Darapai dharati akaasu nakhytraa sir upari amaru karaaraa ||

The earth, the Akaashic ethers and the stars abide in the Fear of God. The almighty Order of the Lord is over the heads of all.

ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਡਰਪੈ ਡਰਪੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੁ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

पउणु पाणी बैसंतरु डरपै डरपै इंद्रु बिचारा ॥१॥

Pau(nn)u paa(nn)ee baisanttaru darapai darapai ianddru bichaaraa ||1||

Wind, water and fire abide in the Fear of God; poor Indra abides in the Fear of God as well. ||1||

ਏਕਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ॥

एका निरभउ बात सुनी ॥

Ekaa nirabhau baat sunee ||

I have heard one thing, that the One Lord alone is fearless.

ਸੋ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਸੋ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सो सुखीआ सो सदा सुहेला जो गुर मिलि गाइ गुनी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

So sukheeaa so sadaa suhelaa jo gur mili gaai gunee ||1|| rahaau ||

He alone is at peace, and he alone is embellished forever, who meets with the Guru, and sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਦੇਹਧਾਰ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਡਰਪਹਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਡਰਿ ਮੁਇਆ ॥

देहधार अरु देवा डरपहि सिध साधिक डरि मुइआ ॥

Dehadhaar aru devaa darapahi sidh saadhik dari muiaa ||

The embodied and the divine beings abide in the Fear of God. The Siddhas and seekers die in the Fear of God.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਜੋਇਆ ॥੨॥

लख चउरासीह मरि मरि जनमे फिरि फिरि जोनी जोइआ ॥२॥

Lakh chauraaseeh mari mari janame phiri phiri jonee joiaa ||2||

The 8.4 millions species of beings die, and die again, and are born over and over again. They are consigned to reincarnation. ||2||

ਰਾਜਸੁ ਸਾਤਕੁ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਡਰਪਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਰੂਪ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

राजसु सातकु तामसु डरपहि केते रूप उपाइआ ॥

Raajasu saataku taamasu darapahi kete roop upaaiaa ||

Those who embody the energies of sattva-white light, raajas-red passion, and taamas-black darkness, abide in the Fear of God, along with the many created forms.

ਛਲ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਇਹ ਕਉਲਾ ਡਰਪੈ ਅਤਿ ਡਰਪੈ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

छल बपुरी इह कउला डरपै अति डरपै धरम राइआ ॥३॥

Chhal bapuree ih kaulaa darapai ati darapai dharam raaiaa ||3||

This miserable deceiver Maya abides in the Fear of God; the Righteous Judge of Dharma is utterly afraid of Him as well. ||3||

ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਡਰਹਿ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਡਰ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥

सगल समग्री डरहि बिआपी बिनु डर करणैहारा ॥

Sagal samagree darahi biaapee binu dar kara(nn)aihaaraa ||

The entire expanse of the Universe is in the Fear of God; only the Creator Lord is without this Fear.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥

कहु नानक भगतन का संगी भगत सोहहि दरबारा ॥४॥१॥

Kahu naanak bhagatan kaa sanggee bhagat sohahi darabaaraa ||4||1||

Says Nanak, God is the companion of His devotees; His devotees look beautiful in the Court of the Lord. ||4||1||

ਪਾਂਚ ਬਰਖ ਕੋ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਧ੍ਰੂ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਮਰ ਅਟਾਰੇ ॥

पांच बरख को अनाथु ध्रू बारिकु हरि सिमरत अमर अटारे ॥

Paanch barakh ko anaathu dhroo baariku hari simarat amar ataare ||

The five year old orphan boy Dhroo, by meditating in remembrance on the Lord, became stationary and permanent.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਹੇਤਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਕਹਿਓ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

पुत्र हेति नाराइणु कहिओ जमकंकर मारि बिदारे ॥१॥

Putr heti naaraai(nn)u kahio jamakankkar maari bidaare ||1||

For the sake of his son, Ajaamal called out, ""O Lord, Naaraayan"", who struck down and killed the Messenger of Death. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇਤੇ ਅਗਨਤ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥

मेरे ठाकुर केते अगनत उधारे ॥

Mere thaakur kete aganat udhaare ||

My Lord and Master has saved many, countless beings.

ਮੋਹਿ ਦੀਨ ਅਲਪ ਮਤਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मोहि दीन अलप मति निरगुण परिओ सरणि दुआरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Mohi deen alap mati niragu(nn) pario sara(nn)i duaare ||1|| rahaau ||

I am meek, with little or no understanding, and unworthy; I seek protection at the Lord's Door. ||1|| Pause ||

ਬਾਲਮੀਕੁ ਸੁਪਚਾਰੋ ਤਰਿਓ ਬਧਿਕ ਤਰੇ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥

बालमीकु सुपचारो तरिओ बधिक तरे बिचारे ॥

Baalameeku supachaaro tario badhik tare bichaare ||

Baalmeek the outcaste was saved, and the poor hunter was saved as well.

ਏਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਿਓ ਗਜਪਤਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੨॥

एक निमख मन माहि अराधिओ गजपति पारि उतारे ॥२॥

Ek nimakh man maahi araadhio gajapati paari utaare ||2||

The elephant remembered the Lord in his mind for an instant, and so was carried across. ||2||

ਕੀਨੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੈ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ ਨਖਹਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥

कीनी रखिआ भगत प्रहिलादै हरनाखस नखहि बिदारे ॥

Keenee rakhiaa bhagat prhilaadai haranaakhas nakhahi bidaare ||

He saved His devotee Prahlaad, and tore Harnaakhash with his nails.

ਬਿਦਰੁ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤੁ ਭਇਓ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਉਜਾਰੇ ॥੩॥

बिदरु दासी सुतु भइओ पुनीता सगले कुल उजारे ॥३॥

Bidaru daasee sutu bhaio puneetaa sagale kul ujaare ||3||

Bidar, the son of a slave-girl, was purified, and all his generations were redeemed. ||3||

ਕਵਨ ਪਰਾਧ ਬਤਾਵਉ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨਾਰੇ ॥

कवन पराध बतावउ अपुने मिथिआ मोह मगनारे ॥

Kavan paraadh bataavau apune mithiaa moh maganaare ||

What sins of mine should I speak of? I am intoxicated with false emotional attachment.

ਆਇਓ ਸਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਭੁਜਾ ਪਸਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥

आइओ साम नानक ओट हरि की लीजै भुजा पसारे ॥४॥२॥

Aaio saam naanak ot hari kee leejai bhujaa pasaare ||4||2||

Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord; please, reach out and take me into Your embrace. ||4||2||

ਵਿਤ ਨਵਿਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਏ ॥

वित नवित भ्रमिओ बहु भाती अनिक जतन करि धाए ॥

Vit navit bhrmio bahu bhaatee anik jatan kari dhaae ||

For the sake of riches, I wandered around in so many ways; I rushed around, making all sorts of efforts.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ਹਉ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਅਜਾਏ ॥੧॥

जो जो करम कीए हउ हउमै ते ते भए अजाए ॥१॥

Jo jo karam keee hau haumai te te bhae ajaae ||1||

The deeds I did in egotism and pride, have all been done in vain. ||1||

ਅਵਰ ਦਿਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਕਾਜ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥

अवर दिन काहू काज न लाए ॥

Avar din kaahoo kaaj na laae ||

Other days are of no use to me;

ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਜਾ ਦਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सो दिनु मो कउ दीजै प्रभ जीउ जा दिन हरि जसु गाए ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

So dinu mo kau deejai prbh jeeu jaa din hari jasu gaae ||1|| rahaau ||

Please bless me with those days, O Dear God, on which I may sing the Lord's Praises. ||1|| Pause ||

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਇਸ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਉਰਝਾਏ ॥

पुत्र कलत्र ग्रिह देखि पसारा इस ही महि उरझाए ॥

Putr kalatr grih dekhi pasaaraa is hee mahi urajhaae ||

Gazing upon children, spouse, household and possessions, one is entangled in these.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦ ਚਾਖਿ ਭਏ ਉਦਮਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਗਾਏ ॥੨॥

माइआ मद चाखि भए उदमाते हरि हरि कबहु न गाए ॥२॥

Maaiaa mad chaakhi bhae udamaate hari hari kabahu na gaae ||2||

Tasting the wine of Maya, one is intoxicated, and never sings of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਖੋਜੀ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਕਾਰਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਏ ॥

इह बिधि खोजी बहु परकारा बिनु संतन नही पाए ॥

Ih bidhi khojee bahu parakaaraa binu santtan nahee paae ||

In this way, I have examined lots of methods, but without the Saints, it is not found.

ਤੁਮ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਵਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਮਾਗਨ ਕਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਆਏ ॥੩॥

तुम दातार वडे प्रभ सम्रथ मागन कउ दानु आए ॥३॥

Tum daataar vade prbh sammrth maagan kau daanu aae ||3||

You are the Great Giver, the great and almighty God; I have come to beg a gift from You. ||3||

ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ਸਗਲਾ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤਾ ਦਾਸ ਰੇਣ ਸਰਣਾਏ ॥

तिआगिओ सगला मानु महता दास रेण सरणाए ॥

Tiaagio sagalaa maanu mahataa daas re(nn) sara(nn)aae ||

Abandoning all pride and self-importance, I have sought the Sanctuary of the dust of the feet of the Lord's slave.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਏਕੈ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੩॥

कहु नानक हरि मिलि भए एकै महा अनंद सुख पाए ॥४॥३॥

Kahu naanak hari mili bhae ekai mahaa anandd sukh paae ||4||3||

Says Nanak, meeting with the Lord, I have become one with Him; I have found supreme bliss and peace. ||4||3||

ਕਵਨ ਥਾਨ ਧੀਰਿਓ ਹੈ ਨਾਮਾ ਕਵਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥

कवन थान धीरिओ है नामा कवन बसतु अहंकारा ॥

Kavan thaan dheerio hai naamaa kavan basatu ahankkaaraa ||

In what place is the Name established? Where does egotism dwell?

ਕਵਨ ਚਿਹਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਛੋਹਿਓ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਗਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

कवन चिहन सुनि ऊपरि छोहिओ मुख ते सुनि करि गारा ॥१॥

Kavan chihan suni upari chhohio mukh te suni kari gaaraa ||1||

What injury have you suffered, listening to abuse from someone else's mouth? ||1||

ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਤੂ ਕਉਨੁ ਕਹਾ ਤੇ ਆਇਓ ॥

सुनहु रे तू कउनु कहा ते आइओ ॥

Sunahu re too kaunu kahaa te aaio ||

Listen: who are you, and where did you come from?

ਏਤੀ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ਕੇਤੀਕ ਮੁਦਤਿ ਚਲਤੇ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

एती न जानउ केतीक मुदति चलते खबरि न पाइओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Etee na jaanau keteek mudati chalate khabari na paaio ||1|| rahaau ||

You don't even know how long you will stay here; you have no hint of when you shall leave. ||1|| Pause ||

ਸਹਨ ਸੀਲ ਪਵਨ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਖਿਮਾ ਨਿਭਰਾਤੇ ॥

सहन सील पवन अरु पाणी बसुधा खिमा निभराते ॥

Sahan seel pavan aru paa(nn)ee basudhaa khimaa nibharaate ||

Wind and water have patience and tolerance; the earth has compassion and forgiveness, no doubt.

ਪੰਚ ਤਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਇਓ ਸੰਜੋਗਾ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਵਨ ਦੁਰਾਤੇ ॥੨॥

पंच तत मिलि भइओ संजोगा इन महि कवन दुराते ॥२॥

Pancch tat mili bhaio sanjjogaa in mahi kavan duraate ||2||

The union of the five tattvas - the five elements - has brought you into being. Which of these is evil? ||2||

ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਚਿਆ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਨਾਲੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਾਈ ॥

जिनि रचि रचिआ पुरखि बिधातै नाले हउमै पाई ॥

Jini rachi rachiaa purakhi bidhaatai naale haumai paaee ||

The Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny, formed your form; He also burdened you with egotism.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਉਸ ਹੀ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਓਹਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥

जनम मरणु उस ही कउ है रे ओहा आवै जाई ॥३॥

Janam mara(nn)u us hee kau hai re ohaa aavai jaaee ||3||

He alone is born and dies; He alone comes and goes. ||3||

ਬਰਨੁ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਰਚਨਾ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥

बरनु चिहनु नाही किछु रचना मिथिआ सगल पसारा ॥

Baranu chihanu naahee kichhu rachanaa mithiaa sagal pasaaraa ||

Nothing of the color and the form of the creation shall remain; the entire expanse is transitory.

ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਬ ਖੇਲੁ ਉਝਾਰੈ ਤਬ ਏਕੈ ਏਕੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥

भणति नानकु जब खेलु उझारै तब एकै एकंकारा ॥४॥४॥

Bha(nn)ati naanaku jab khelu ujhaarai tab ekai ekankkaaraa ||4||4||

Prays Nanak, when He brings His play to its close, then only the One, the One Lord remains. ||4||4||

ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਬੀਓ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਘਾਲਿਓ ॥

मान मोह अरु लोभ विकारा बीओ चीति न घालिओ ॥

Maan moh aru lobh vikaaraa beeo cheeti na ghaalio ||

Pride, emotional attachment, greed and corruption are gone; I have not placed anything else, other than the Lord, within my consciousness.

ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਬਣਜੇ ਲਾਦਿ ਵਖਰੁ ਲੈ ਚਾਲਿਓ ॥੧॥

नाम रतनु गुणा हरि बणजे लादि वखरु लै चालिओ ॥१॥

Naam ratanu gu(nn)aa hari ba(nn)aje laadi vakharu lai chaalio ||1||

I have purchased the jewel of the Naam and the Glorious Praises of the Lord; loading this merchandise, I have set out on my journey. ||1||

ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਓੜਕਿ ਨਿਬਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥

सेवक की ओड़कि निबही प्रीति ॥

Sevak kee o(rr)aki nibahee preeti ||

The love which the Lord's servant feels for the Lord lasts forever.

ਜੀਵਤ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਅਪਨਾ ਚਲਤੇ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जीवत साहिबु सेविओ अपना चलते राखिओ चीति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jeevat saahibu sevio apanaa chalate raakhio cheeti ||1|| rahaau ||

In my life, I served my Lord and Master, and as I depart, I keep Him enshrined in my consciousness. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜੈਸੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਕੀਨੀ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਮੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੋਰਿਓ ॥

जैसी आगिआ कीनी ठाकुरि तिस ते मुखु नही मोरिओ ॥

Jaisee aagiaa keenee thaakuri tis te mukhu nahee morio ||

I have not turned my face away from my Lord and Master's Command.

ਸਹਜੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਰਖਿਓ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਉਠਿ ਉਆਹੂ ਕਉ ਦਉਰਿਓ ॥੨॥

सहजु अनंदु रखिओ ग्रिह भीतरि उठि उआहू कउ दउरिओ ॥२॥

Sahaju ananddu rakhio grih bheetari uthi uaahoo kau daurio ||2||

He fills my household with celestial peace and bliss; if He asks me to leave, I leave at once. ||2||

ਆਗਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਭੂਖ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਿ ਸੂਖਾ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਿਓ ॥

आगिआ महि भूख सोई करि सूखा सोग हरख नही जानिओ ॥

Aagiaa mahi bhookh soee kari sookhaa sog harakh nahee jaanio ||

When I am under the Lord's Command, I find even hunger pleasurable; I know no difference between sorrow and joy.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਭਇਓ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਸੋ ਮਾਥੈ ਲੇ ਮਾਨਿਓ ॥੩॥

जो जो हुकमु भइओ साहिब का सो माथै ले मानिओ ॥३॥

Jo jo hukamu bhaio saahib kaa so maathai le maanio ||3||

Whatever the Command of my Lord and Master is, I bow my forehead and accept it. ||3||

ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਸਵਰੇ ਹਲਤ ਪਲਾਤਾ ॥

भइओ क्रिपालु ठाकुरु सेवक कउ सवरे हलत पलाता ॥

Bhaio kripaalu thaakuru sevak kau savare halat palaataa ||

The Lord and Master has become merciful to His servant; He has embellished both this world and the next.

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਓਹੁ ਆਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੫॥

धंनु सेवकु सफलु ओहु आइआ जिनि नानक खसमु पछाता ॥४॥५॥

Dhannu sevaku saphalu ohu aaiaa jini naanak khasamu pachhaataa ||4||5||

Blessed is that servant, and fruitful is his birth; O Nanak, he realizes his Lord and Master. ||4||5||

Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:

ਖੁਲਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਭਈ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈ ॥

खुलिआ करमु क्रिपा भई ठाकुर कीरतनु हरि हरि गाई ॥

Khuliaa karamu kripaa bhaee thaakur keeratanu hari hari gaaee ||

Good karma has dawned for me - my Lord and Master has become merciful. I sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਥਾਕਾ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮਾ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਸਗਲੀ ਧਾਈ ॥੧॥

स्रमु थाका पाए बिस्रामा मिटि गई सगली धाई ॥१॥

Srmu thaakaa paae bisraamaa miti gaee sagalee dhaaee ||1||

My struggle is ended; I have found peace and tranquility. All my wanderings have ceased. ||1||

ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਈ ॥

अब मोहि जीवन पदवी पाई ॥

Ab mohi jeevan padavee paaee ||

Now, I have obtained the state of eternal life.

ਚੀਤਿ ਆਇਓ ਮਨਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

चीति आइओ मनि पुरखु बिधाता संतन की सरणाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Cheeti aaio mani purakhu bidhaataa santtan kee sara(nn)aaee ||1|| rahaau ||

The Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny, has come into my conscious mind; I seek the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||1|| Pause ||

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਨਿਵਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥

कामु क्रोधु लोभु मोहु निवारे निवरे सगल बैराई ॥

Kaamu krodhu lobhu mohu nivaare nivare sagal bairaaee ||

Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment are eradicated; all my enemies are eliminated.

ਸਦ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਜਰੁ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਭਇਓ ਦੂਰਾਈ ॥੨॥

सद हजूरि हाजरु है नाजरु कतहि न भइओ दूराई ॥२॥

Sad hajoori haajaru hai naajaru katahi na bhaio dooraaee ||2||

He is always ever-present, here and now, watching over me; He is never far away. ||2||

ਸੁਖ ਸੀਤਲ ਸਰਧਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ॥

सुख सीतल सरधा सभ पूरी होए संत सहाई ॥

Sukh seetal saradhaa sabh pooree hoe santt sahaaee ||

In peace and cool tranquility, my faith has been totally fulfilled; the Saints are my Helpers and Support.

ਪਾਵਨ ਪਤਿਤ ਕੀਏ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥

पावन पतित कीए खिन भीतरि महिमा कथनु न जाई ॥३॥

Paavan patit keee khin bheetari mahimaa kathanu na jaaee ||3||

He has purified the sinners in an instant; I cannot express His Glorious Praises. ||3||

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਸਗਲ ਭੈ ਖੋਏ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਚਰਣ ਓਟਾਈ ॥

निरभउ भए सगल भै खोए गोबिद चरण ओटाई ॥

Nirabhau bhae sagal bhai khoe gobid chara(nn) otaaee ||

I have become fearless; all fear has departed. The feet of the Lord of the Universe are my only Shelter.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥੬॥

नानकु जसु गावै ठाकुर का रैणि दिनसु लिव लाई ॥४॥६॥

Naanaku jasu gaavai thaakur kaa rai(nn)i dinasu liv laaee ||4||6||

Nanak sings the Praises of his Lord and Master; night and day, he is lovingly focused on Him. ||4||6||

ਜੋ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਇਕੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਗਾਵਸਿ ਰੇ ॥

जो समरथु सरब गुण नाइकु तिस कउ कबहु न गावसि रे ॥

Jo samarathu sarab gu(nn) naaiku tis kau kabahu na gaavasi re ||

He is all-powerful, the Master of all virtues, but you never sing of Him!

ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਇ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਉਆ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਧਾਵਸਿ ਰੇ ॥੧॥

छोडि जाइ खिन भीतरि ता कउ उआ कउ फिरि फिरि धावसि रे ॥१॥

Chhodi jaai khin bheetari taa kau uaa kau phiri phiri dhaavasi re ||1||

You shall have to leave all this in an instant, but again and again, you chase after it. ||1||

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਸਮਾਰਸਿ ਰੇ ॥

अपुने प्रभ कउ किउ न समारसि रे ॥

Apune prbh kau kiu na samaarasi re ||

Why do you not contemplate your God?

ਬੈਰੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਸਿ ਰਚਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਜਾਰਸਿ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

बैरी संगि रंग रसि रचिआ तिसु सिउ जीअरा जारसि रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Bairee sanggi rangg rasi rachiaa tisu siu jeearaa jaarasi re ||1|| rahaau ||

You are entangled in association with your enemies, and the enjoyment of pleasures; your soul is burning up with them! ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਨਿਐ ਜਮੁ ਛੋਡੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਰੇ ॥

जा कै नामि सुनिऐ जमु छोडै ता की सरणि न पावसि रे ॥

Jaa kai naami suniai jamu chhodai taa kee sara(nn)i na paavasi re ||

Hearing His Name, the Messenger of Death will release you, and yet, you do not enter His Sanctuary!

ਕਾਢਿ ਦੇਇ ਸਿਆਲ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਕਉ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਟਿਕਾਵਸਿ ਰੇ ॥੨॥

काढि देइ सिआल बपुरे कउ ता की ओट टिकावसि रे ॥२॥

Kaadhi dei siaal bapure kau taa kee ot tikaavasi re ||2||

Turn out this wretched jackal, and seek the Shelter of that God. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਜਾਸੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਭਵ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਾਵਸਿ ਰੇ ॥

जिस का जासु सुनत भव तरीऐ ता सिउ रंगु न लावसि रे ॥

Jis kaa jaasu sunat bhav tareeai taa siu ranggu na laavasi re ||

Praising Him, you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean, and yet, you have not fallen in love with Him!

ਥੋਰੀ ਬਾਤ ਅਲਪ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਕੀ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਅਟਕਾਵਸਿ ਰੇ ॥੩॥

थोरी बात अलप सुपने की बहुरि बहुरि अटकावसि रे ॥३॥

Thoree baat alap supane kee bahuri bahuri atakaavasi re ||3||

This meager, short-lived dream, this thing - you are engrossed in it, over and over again. ||3||

ਭਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

भइओ प्रसादु क्रिपा निधि ठाकुर संतसंगि पति पाई ॥

Bhaio prsaadu kripaa nidhi thaakur santtasanggi pati paaee ||

When our Lord and Master, the ocean of mercy, grants His Grace, one finds honor in the Society of the Saints.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਛੂਟਾ ਜਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੪॥੭॥

कहु नानक त्रै गुण भ्रमु छूटा जउ प्रभ भए सहाई ॥४॥७॥

Kahu naanak trai gu(nn) bhrmu chhootaa jau prbh bhae sahaaee ||4||7||

Says Nanak, I am rid of the illusion of the three-phased Maya, when God becomes my help and support. ||4||7||

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਕਹਾ ਦੁਲਾਰਿਓ ॥

अंतरजामी सभ बिधि जानै तिस ते कहा दुलारिओ ॥

Anttarajaamee sabh bidhi jaanai tis te kahaa dulaario ||

The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, knows everything; what can anyone hide from Him?

ਹਸਤ ਪਾਵ ਝਰੇ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥

हसत पाव झरे खिन भीतरि अगनि संगि लै जारिओ ॥१॥

Hasat paav jhare khin bheetari agani sanggi lai jaario ||1||

Your hands and feet will fall off in an instant, when you are burnt in the fire. ||1||

ਮੂੜੇ ਤੈ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ॥

मूड़े तै मन ते रामु बिसारिओ ॥

Moo(rr)e tai man te raamu bisaario ||

You fool, you have forgotten the Lord from your mind!

ਲੂਣੁ ਖਾਇ ਕਰਹਿ ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰੀ ਪੇਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

लूणु खाइ करहि हरामखोरी पेखत नैन बिदारिओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Loo(nn)u khaai karahi haraamakhoree pekhat nain bidaario ||1|| rahaau ||

You eat His salt, and then you are untrue to Him; before your very eyes, you shall be torn apart. ||1|| Pause ||

ਅਸਾਧ ਰੋਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਟਰਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਟਾਰਿਓ ॥

असाध रोगु उपजिओ तन भीतरि टरत न काहू टारिओ ॥

Asaadh rogu upajio tan bheetari tarat na kaahoo taario ||

The incurable disease has arisen in your body; it cannot be removed or overcome.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥੮॥

प्रभ बिसरत महा दुखु पाइओ इहु नानक ततु बीचारिओ ॥२॥८॥

Prbh bisarat mahaa dukhu paaio ihu naanak tatu beechaario ||2||8||

Forgetting God, one endures utter agony; this is the essence of reality which Nanak has realized. ||2||8||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖੇ ਚੀਤਿ ॥

चरन कमल प्रभ राखे चीति ॥

Charan kamal prbh raakhe cheeti ||

I have enshrined the lotus feet of God within my consciousness.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਨੀਤਾ ਨੀਤ ॥

हरि गुण गावह नीता नीत ॥

Hari gu(nn) gaavah neetaa neet ||

I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, continually, continuously.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ॥

तिसु बिनु दूजा अवरु न कोऊ ॥

Tisu binu doojaa avaru na kou ||

There is none other than Him at all.

ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਊ ॥੧॥

आदि मधि अंति है सोऊ ॥१॥

Aadi madhi antti hai sou ||1||

He alone exists, in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end. ||1||

ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

संतन की ओट आपे आपि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Santtan kee ot aape aapi ||1|| rahaau ||

He Himself is the Shelter of the Saints. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

जा कै वसि है सगल संसारु ॥

Jaa kai vasi hai sagal sanssaaru ||

The entire universe is under His control.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

आपे आपि आपि निरंकारु ॥

Aape aapi aapi nirankkaaru ||

He Himself, the Formless Lord, is Himself by Himself.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗਹਿਓ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥

नानक गहिओ साचा सोइ ॥

Naanak gahio saachaa soi ||

Nanak holds tight to that True Lord.

ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥੯॥

सुखु पाइआ फिरि दूखु न होइ ॥२॥९॥

Sukhu paaiaa phiri dookhu na hoi ||2||9||

He has found peace, and shall never suffer pain again. ||2||9||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਅ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤੁਮ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਓ ਅਗਿਆਨਥ ॥

प्रान सुखदाता जीअ सुखदाता तुम काहे बिसारिओ अगिआनथ ॥

Praan sukhadaataa jeea sukhadaataa tum kaahe bisaario agiaanath ||

He is the Giver of peace to the breath of life, the Giver of life to the soul; how can you forget Him, you ignorant person?

ਹੋਛਾ ਮਦੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਹੋਏ ਤੁਮ ਬਾਵਰ ਦੁਲਭ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥ ॥੧॥

होछा मदु चाखि होए तुम बावर दुलभ जनमु अकारथ ॥१॥

Hochhaa madu chaakhi hoe tum baavar dulabh janamu akaarath ||1||

You taste the weak, insipid wine, and you have gone insane. You have uselessly wasted this precious human life. ||1||

ਰੇ ਨਰ ਐਸੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਆਨਥ ॥

रे नर ऐसी करहि इआनथ ॥

Re nar aisee karahi iaanath ||

O man, such is the foolishness you practice.

ਤਜਿ ਸਾਰੰਗਧਰ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਤੂ ਭੂਲਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਪਟਿਓ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਨਥ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तजि सारंगधर भ्रमि तू भूला मोहि लपटिओ दासी संगि सानथ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Taji saaranggadhar bhrmi too bhoolaa mohi lapatio daasee sanggi saanath ||1|| rahaau ||

Renouncing the Lord, the Support of the earth, you wander, deluded by doubt; you are engrossed in emotional attachment, associating with Maya, the slave-girl. ||1|| Pause ||

ਧਰਣੀਧਰੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਨੀਚ ਕੁਲ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵਥ ॥

धरणीधरु तिआगि नीच कुल सेवहि हउ हउ करत बिहावथ ॥

Dhara(nn)eedharu tiaagi neech kul sevahi hau hau karat bihaavath ||

Abandoning the Lord, the Support of the earth, you serve her of lowly ancestry, and you pass you life acting egotistically.

ਫੋਕਟ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧ ਕਹਾਵਥ ॥੨॥

फोकट करम करहि अगिआनी मनमुखि अंध कहावथ ॥२॥

Phokat karam karahi agiaanee manamukhi anddh kahaavath ||2||

You do useless deeds, you ignorant person; this is why you are called a blind, self-willed manmukh. ||2||

ਸਤਿ ਹੋਤਾ ਅਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਜੋ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਸੋ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਜਾਨਥ ॥

सति होता असति करि मानिआ जो बिनसत सो निहचलु जानथ ॥

Sati hotaa asati kari maaniaa jo binasat so nihachalu jaanath ||

That which is true, you believe to be untrue; what is transitory, you believe to be permanent.

ਪਰ ਕੀ ਕਉ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਪਕਰੀ ਐਸੇ ਭੂਲ ਭੁਲਾਨਥ ॥੩॥

पर की कउ अपनी करि पकरी ऐसे भूल भुलानथ ॥३॥

Par kee kau apanee kari pakaree aise bhool bhulaanath ||3||

You grasp as your own, what belongs to others; in such delusions you are deluded. ||3||

ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਸੂਦ ਵੈਸ ਸਭ ਏਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾਨਥ ॥

खत्री ब्राहमण सूद वैस सभ एकै नामि तरानथ ॥

Khatree braahama(nn) sood vais sabh ekai naami taraanath ||

The Kshatriyas, Brahmins, Soodras and Vaisyas all cross over, through the Name of the One Lord.

ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸੁਨੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਥ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੦॥

गुरु नानकु उपदेसु कहतु है जो सुनै सो पारि परानथ ॥४॥१॥१०॥

Guru naanaku upadesu kahatu hai jo sunai so paari paraanath ||4||1||10||

Guru Nanak speaks the Teachings; whoever listens to them is carried across. ||4||1||10||

ਗੁਪਤੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਡਹਕਾਵਏ ਮਨੁਖਾਇ ॥

गुपतु करता संगि सो प्रभु डहकावए मनुखाइ ॥

Gupatu karataa sanggi so prbhu dahakaavae manukhaai ||

You may act in secrecy, but God is still with you; you can only deceive other people.

ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਖੈ ਭੋਗਹਿ ਤਪਤ ਥੰਮ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

बिसारि हरि जीउ बिखै भोगहि तपत थम गलि लाइ ॥१॥

Bisaari hari jeeu bikhai bhogahi tapat thamm gali laai ||1||

Forgetting your Dear Lord, you enjoy corrupt pleasures, and so you shall have to embrace red-hot pillars. ||1||

ਰੇ ਨਰ ਕਾਇ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

रे नर काइ पर ग्रिहि जाइ ॥

Re nar kaai par grihi jaai ||

O man, why do you go out to the households of others?

ਕੁਚਲ ਕਠੋਰ ਕਾਮਿ ਗਰਧਭ ਤੁਮ ਨਹੀ ਸੁਨਿਓ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

कुचल कठोर कामि गरधभ तुम नही सुनिओ धरम राइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kuchal kathor kaami garadhabh tum nahee sunio dharam raai ||1|| rahaau ||

You filthy, heartless, lustful donkey! Haven't you heard of the Righteous Judge of Dharma? ||1|| Pause ||

ਬਿਕਾਰ ਪਾਥਰ ਗਲਹਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਨਿੰਦ ਪੋਟ ਸਿਰਾਇ ॥

बिकार पाथर गलहि बाधे निंद पोट सिराइ ॥

Bikaar paathar galahi baadhe nindd pot siraai ||

The stone of corruption is tied around your neck, and the load of slander is on your head.

ਮਹਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਮੁਦੁ ਲੰਘਨਾ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਰਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

महा सागरु समुदु लंघना पारि न परना जाइ ॥२॥

Mahaa saagaru samudu langghanaa paari na paranaa jaai ||2||

You must cross over the vast open ocean, but you cannot cross over to the other side. ||2||

ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਓ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਰਖੇ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥

कामि क्रोधि लोभि मोहि बिआपिओ नेत्र रखे फिराइ ॥

Kaami krodhi lobhi mohi biaapio netr rakhe phiraai ||

You are engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment; you have turned your eyes away from the Truth.

ਸੀਸੁ ਉਠਾਵਨ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਮਿਲਈ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਤਰ ਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

सीसु उठावन न कबहू मिलई महा दुतर माइ ॥३॥

Seesu uthaavan na kabahoo milaee mahaa dutar maai ||3||

You cannot even raise your head above the water of the vast, impassable sea of Maya. ||3||

ਸੂਰੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਸਸੀ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਅਲਿਪਾਇ ॥

सूरु मुकता ससी मुकता ब्रहम गिआनी अलिपाइ ॥

Sooru mukataa sasee mukataa brham giaanee alipaai ||

The sun is liberated, and the moon is liberated; the God-realized being is pure and untouched.

ਸੁਭਾਵਤ ਜੈਸੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾਇ ॥੪॥

सुभावत जैसे बैसंतर अलिपत सदा निरमलाइ ॥४॥

Subhaavat jaise baisanttar alipat sadaa niramalaai ||4||

His inner nature is like that of fire, untouched and forever immaculate. ||4||

ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਖੁਲਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਹਿਆ ਪੜਦਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

जिसु करमु खुलिआ तिसु लहिआ पड़दा जिनि गुर पहि मंनिआ सुभाइ ॥

Jisu karamu khuliaa tisu lahiaa pa(rr)adaa jini gur pahi manniaa subhaai ||

When good karma dawns, the wall of doubt is torn down. He lovingly accepts the Guru's Will.

ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਕਟ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥੨॥

गुरि मंत्रु अवखधु नामु दीना जन नानक संकट जोनि न पाइ ॥५॥२॥

Guri manttru avakhadhu naamu deenaa jan naanak sankkat joni na paai ||5||2||

One who is blessed with the medicine of the GurMantra, the Name of the Lord, O servant Nanak, does not suffer the agonies of reincarnation. ||5||2||

ਰੇ ਨਰ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਇ ॥

रे नर इन बिधि पारि पराइ ॥

Re nar in bidhi paari paraai ||

O man, in this way, you shall cross over to the other side.

ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹੋਇ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨॥੧੧॥

धिआइ हरि जीउ होइ मिरतकु तिआगि दूजा भाउ ॥ रहाउ दूजा ॥२॥११॥

Dhiaai hari jeeu hoi mirataku tiaagi doojaa bhaau || rahaau doojaa ||2||11||

Meditate on your Dear Lord, and be dead to the world; renounce your love of duality. || Second Pause ||2||11||

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਢੂਢਨ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਿ ਪਰੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥

बाहरि ढूढन ते छूटि परे गुरि घर ही माहि दिखाइआ था ॥

Baahari dhoodhan te chhooti pare guri ghar hee maahi dikhaaiaa thaa ||

I have quit searching outside; the Guru has shown me that God is within the home of my own heart.

ਅਨਭਉ ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੇਖਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥੧॥

अनभउ अचरज रूपु प्रभ पेखिआ मेरा मनु छोडि न कतहू जाइआ था ॥१॥

Anabhau acharaj roopu prbh pekhiaa meraa manu chhodi na katahoo jaaiaa thaa ||1||

I have seen God, fearless, of wondrous beauty; my mind shall never leave Him to go anywhere else. ||1||

ਮਾਨਕੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਰੇ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥

मानकु पाइओ रे पाइओ हरि पूरा पाइआ था ॥

Maanaku paaio re paaio hari pooraa paaiaa thaa ||

I have found the jewel; I have found the Perfect Lord.

ਮੋਲਿ ਅਮੋਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मोलि अमोलु न पाइआ जाई करि किरपा गुरू दिवाइआ था ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Moli amolu na paaiaa jaaee kari kirapaa guroo divaaiaa thaa ||1|| rahaau ||

The invaluable value cannot be obtained; in His Mercy, the Guru bestows it. ||1|| Pause ||

ਅਦਿਸਟੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥

अदिसटु अगोचरु पारब्रहमु मिलि साधू अकथु कथाइआ था ॥

Adisatu agocharu paarabrhamu mili saadhoo akathu kathaaiaa thaa ||

The Supreme Lord God is imperceptible and unfathomable; meeting the Holy Saint, I speak the Unspoken Speech.

ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਸਮ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਵਜਿਓ ਤਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੁਆਇਆ ਥਾ ॥੨॥

अनहद सबदु दसम दुआरि वजिओ तह अम्रित नामु चुआइआ था ॥२॥

Anahad sabadu dasam duaari vajio tah ammmrit naamu chuaaiaa thaa ||2||

The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates and resounds in the Tenth Gate; the Ambrosial Naam trickles down there. ||2||

ਤੋਟਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੂਝੀ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥

तोटि नाही मनि त्रिसना बूझी अखुट भंडार समाइआ था ॥

Toti naahee mani trisanaa boojhee akhut bhanddaar samaaiaa thaa ||

I lack nothing; the thirsty desires of my mind are satisfied. The inexhaustible treasure has entered into my being.

ਚਰਣ ਚਰਣ ਚਰਣ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਅਘੜੁ ਘੜਿਓ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥੩॥

चरण चरण चरण गुर सेवे अघड़ु घड़िओ रसु पाइआ था ॥३॥

Chara(nn) chara(nn) chara(nn) gur seve agha(rr)u gha(rr)io rasu paaiaa thaa ||3||

I serve the feet, the feet, the feet of the Guru, and manage the unmanageable. I have found the juice, the sublime essence. ||3||

ਸਹਜੇ ਆਵਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਜਾਵਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਖੇਲਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥

सहजे आवा सहजे जावा सहजे मनु खेलाइआ था ॥

Sahaje aavaa sahaje jaavaa sahaje manu khelaaiaa thaa ||

Intuitively I come, and intuitively I go; my mind intuitively plays.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਇਆ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਹਲੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਥਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥

कहु नानक भरमु गुरि खोइआ ता हरि महली महलु पाइआ था ॥४॥३॥१२॥

Kahu naanak bharamu guri khoiaa taa hari mahalee mahalu paaiaa thaa ||4||3||12||

Says Nanak, when the Guru drives out doubt, then the soul-bride enters the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||4||3||12||

Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਿਉ ਰੁਚ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

जिसहि साजि निवाजिआ तिसहि सिउ रुच नाहि ॥

Jisahi saaji nivaajiaa tisahi siu ruch naahi ||

You feel no love for the One who created and embellished you.

ਆਨ ਰੂਤੀ ਆਨ ਬੋਈਐ ਫਲੁ ਨ ਫੂਲੈ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

आन रूती आन बोईऐ फलु न फूलै ताहि ॥१॥

Aan rootee aan boeeai phalu na phoolai taahi ||1||

The seed, planted out season, does not germinate; it does not produce flower or fruit. ||1||

ਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਤ੍ਰ ਬੀਜਣ ਨਾਉ ॥

रे मन वत्र बीजण नाउ ॥

Re man vatr beeja(nn) naau ||

O mind, this is the time to plant the seed of the Name.

ਬੋਇ ਖੇਤੀ ਲਾਇ ਮਨੂਆ ਭਲੋ ਸਮਉ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

बोइ खेती लाइ मनूआ भलो समउ सुआउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Boi khetee laai manooaa bhalo samau suaau ||1|| rahaau ||

Focus your mind, and cultivate this crop; at the proper time, make this your purpose. ||1|| Pause ||

ਖੋਇ ਖਹੜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣੀ ਜਾਇ ॥

खोइ खहड़ा भरमु मन का सतिगुर सरणी जाइ ॥

Khoi khaha(rr)aa bharamu man kaa satigur sara(nn)ee jaai ||

Eradicate the stubbornness and doubt of your mind, and go to the Sanctuary of the True Guru.

ਕਰਮੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

करमु जिस कउ धुरहु लिखिआ सोई कार कमाइ ॥२॥

Karamu jis kau dhurahu likhiaa soee kaar kamaai ||2||

He alone does such deeds, who has such pre-ordained karma. ||2||

ਭਾਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਸਿਉ ਘਾਲ ਪਾਈ ਥਾਇ ॥

भाउ लागा गोबिद सिउ घाल पाई थाइ ॥

Bhaau laagaa gobid siu ghaal paaee thaai ||

He falls in love with the Lord of the Universe, and his efforts are approved.

ਖੇਤਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਨਿਖੁਟਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

खेति मेरै जमिआ निखुटि न कबहू जाइ ॥३॥

Kheti merai jammiaa nikhuti na kabahoo jaai ||3||

My crop has germinated, and it shall never be used up. ||3||

ਪਾਇਆ ਅਮੋਲੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੋ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਇ ॥

पाइआ अमोलु पदारथो छोडि न कतहू जाइ ॥

Paaiaa amolu padaaratho chhodi na katahoo jaai ||

I have obtained the priceless wealth, which shall never leave me or go anywhere else.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਰਹੇ ਆਘਾਇ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੩॥

कहु नानक सुखु पाइआ त्रिपति रहे आघाइ ॥४॥४॥१३॥

Kahu naanak sukhu paaiaa tripati rahe aaghaai ||4||4||13||

Says Nanak, I have found peace; I am satisfied and fulfilled. ||4||4||13||

ਫੂਟੋ ਆਂਡਾ ਭਰਮ ਕਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

फूटो आंडा भरम का मनहि भइओ परगासु ॥

Phooto aandaa bharam kaa manahi bhaio paragaasu ||

The egg of doubt has burst; my mind has been enlightened.

ਕਾਟੀ ਬੇਰੀ ਪਗਹ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਬੰਦਿ ਖਲਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

काटी बेरी पगह ते गुरि कीनी बंदि खलासु ॥१॥

Kaatee beree pagah te guri keenee banddi khalaasu ||1||

The Guru has shattered the shackles on my feet, and has set me free. ||1||

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਿਓ ॥

आवण जाणु रहिओ ॥

Aava(nn) jaa(nn)u rahio ||

My coming and going in reincarnation is ended.

ਤਪਤ ਕੜਾਹਾ ਬੁਝਿ ਗਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੀਤਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

तपत कड़ाहा बुझि गइआ गुरि सीतल नामु दीओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Tapat ka(rr)aahaa bujhi gaiaa guri seetal naamu deeo ||1|| rahaau ||

The boiling cauldron has cooled down; the Guru has blessed me with the cooling, soothing Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||

ਜਬ ਤੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਉ ਛੋਡਿ ਗਏ ਨਿਗਹਾਰ ॥

जब ते साधू संगु भइआ तउ छोडि गए निगहार ॥

Jab te saadhoo sanggu bhaiaa tau chhodi gae nigahaar ||

Since I joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, those who were eyeing me have left.

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਅਟਕ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੀ ਤਉ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਕੋਟਵਾਰ ॥੨॥

जिस की अटक तिस ते छुटी तउ कहा करै कोटवार ॥२॥

Jis kee atak tis te chhutee tau kahaa karai kotavaar ||2||

The one who tied me up, has released me; what can the Watchman of Death do to me now? ||2||

ਚੂਕਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਾ ਹੋਏ ਨਿਹਕਰਮਾ ॥

चूका भारा करम का होए निहकरमा ॥

Chookaa bhaaraa karam kaa hoe nihakaramaa ||

The load of my karma has been removed, and I am now free of karma.

ਸਾਗਰ ਤੇ ਕੰਢੈ ਚੜੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਧਰਮਾ ॥੩॥

सागर ते कंढै चड़े गुरि कीने धरमा ॥३॥

Saagar te kanddhai cha(rr)e guri keene dharamaa ||3||

I have crossed the world-ocean, and reached the other shore; the Guru has blessed me with this Dharma. ||3||

ਸਚੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਬੈਠਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥

सचु थानु सचु बैठका सचु सुआउ बणाइआ ॥

Sachu thaanu sachu baithakaa sachu suaau ba(nn)aaiaa ||

True is my place, and True is my seat; I have made Truth my life's purpose.

ਸਚੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਰੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੪॥

सचु पूंजी सचु वखरो नानक घरि पाइआ ॥४॥५॥१४॥

Sachu poonjjee sachu vakharo naanak ghari paaiaa ||4||5||14||

True is my capital, and True is the merchandise, which Nanak has placed into the home of the heart. ||4||5||14||

ਬੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਪੰਡਤ ਕਾਮਾਮਨ ਕਾ ਮਾਠਾ ॥

बेदु पुकारै मुख ते पंडत कामामन का माठा ॥

Bedu pukaarai mukh te panddat kaamaaman kaa maathaa ||

The Pandit, the religious scholar, proclaims the Vedas, but he is slow to act on them.

ਮੋਨੀ ਹੋਇ ਬੈਠਾ ਇਕਾਂਤੀ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਲਪਨ ਗਾਠਾ ॥

मोनी होइ बैठा इकांती हिरदै कलपन गाठा ॥

Monee hoi baithaa ikaantee hiradai kalapan gaathaa ||

Another person on silence sits alone, but his heart is tied in knots of desire.

ਹੋਇ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਤਜਿ ਚਲਿਓ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਠਾ ॥੧॥

होइ उदासी ग्रिहु तजि चलिओ छुटकै नाही नाठा ॥१॥

Hoi udaasee grihu taji chalio chhutakai naahee naathaa ||1||

Another becomes an Udaasi, a renunciate; he abandons his home and walks out on his family, but his wandering impulses do not leave him. ||1||

ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਬਾਤ ਕਹਾ ॥

जीअ की कै पहि बात कहा ॥

Jeea kee kai pahi baat kahaa ||

Who can I tell about the state of my soul?

ਆਪਿ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਐਸੋ ਕਹਾ ਲਹਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

आपि मुकतु मो कउ प्रभु मेले ऐसो कहा लहा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Aapi mukatu mo kau prbhu mele aiso kahaa lahaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Where can I find such a person who is liberated, and who can unite me with my God? ||1|| Pause ||

ਤਪਸੀ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਦੇਹੀ ਸਾਧੀ ਮਨੂਆ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਨਾ ॥

तपसी करि कै देही साधी मनूआ दह दिस धाना ॥

Tapasee kari kai dehee saadhee manooaa dah dis dhaanaa ||

Someone may practice intensive meditation, and discipline his body, but his mind still runs around in ten directions.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਜੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਭਇਆ ਗੁਮਾਨਾ ॥

ब्रहमचारि ब्रहमचजु कीना हिरदै भइआ गुमाना ॥

Brhamachaari brhamachaju keenaa hiradai bhaiaa gumaanaa ||

The celibate practices celibacy, but his heart is filled with pride.

ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਉਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥੨॥

संनिआसी होइ कै तीरथि भ्रमिओ उसु महि क्रोधु बिगाना ॥२॥

Sanniaasee hoi kai teerathi bhrmio usu mahi krodhu bigaanaa ||2||

The Sannyaasi wanders around at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, but his mindless anger is still within him. ||2||

ਘੂੰਘਰ ਬਾਧਿ ਭਏ ਰਾਮਦਾਸਾ ਰੋਟੀਅਨ ਕੇ ਓਪਾਵਾ ॥

घूंघर बाधि भए रामदासा रोटीअन के ओपावा ॥

Ghoongghar baadhi bhae raamadaasaa roteean ke opaavaa ||

The temple dancers tie bells around their ankles to earn their living.

ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕਰਮ ਖਟ ਕੀਨੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੇਖ ਦਿਖਾਵਾ ॥

बरत नेम करम खट कीने बाहरि भेख दिखावा ॥

Barat nem karam khat keene baahari bhekh dikhaavaa ||

Others go on fasts, take vows, perform the six rituals and wear religious robes for show.

ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਗ ਅਲਾਪੇ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਾ ॥੩॥

गीत नाद मुखि राग अलापे मनि नही हरि हरि गावा ॥३॥

Geet naad mukhi raag alaape mani nahee hari hari gaavaa ||3||

Some sing songs and melodies and hymns, but their minds do not sing of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||

ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਰਹਤ ਹਹਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤਾ ॥

हरख सोग लोभ मोह रहत हहि निरमल हरि के संता ॥

Harakh sog lobh moh rahat hahi niramal hari ke santtaa ||

The Lord's Saints are immaculately pure; they are beyond pleasure and pain, beyond greed and attachment.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਪਾਏ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਾ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥

तिन की धूड़ि पाए मनु मेरा जा दइआ करे भगवंता ॥

Tin kee dhoo(rr)i paae manu meraa jaa daiaa kare bhagavanttaa ||

My mind obtains the dust of their feet, when the Lord God shows mercy.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਤਰੀ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥੪॥

कहु नानक गुरु पूरा मिलिआ तां उतरी मन की चिंता ॥४॥

Kahu naanak guru pooraa miliaa taan utaree man kee chinttaa ||4||

Says Nanak, I met the Perfect Guru, and then the anxiety of my mind was removed. ||4||

ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥

मेरा अंतरजामी हरि राइआ ॥

Meraa anttarajaamee hari raaiaa ||

My Sovereign Lord is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਗਏ ਬਕਬਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੬॥੧੫॥

सभु किछु जाणै मेरे जीअ का प्रीतमु बिसरि गए बकबाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ दूजा ॥६॥१५॥

Sabhu kichhu jaa(nn)ai mere jeea kaa preetamu bisari gae bakabaaiaa ||1|| rahaau doojaa ||6||15||

The Beloved of my soul knows everything; all trivial talk is forgotten. ||1|| Second Pause ||6||15||

Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:

ਕੋਟਿ ਲਾਖ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥

कोटि लाख सरब को राजा जिसु हिरदै नामु तुमारा ॥

Koti laakh sarab ko raajaa jisu hiradai naamu tumaaraa ||

One who has Your Name in his heart is the king of all the hundreds of thousands and millions of beings.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਦੀਆ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

जा कउ नामु न दीआ मेरै सतिगुरि से मरि जनमहि गावारा ॥१॥

Jaa kau naamu na deeaa merai satiguri se mari janamahi gaavaaraa ||1||

Those, whom my True Guru has not blessed with Your Name, are poor idiots, who die and are reborn. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥

मेरे सतिगुर ही पति राखु ॥

Mere satigur hee pati raakhu ||

My True Guru protects and preserves my honor.

ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਰਲੀਐ ਖਾਕੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

चीति आवहि तब ही पति पूरी बिसरत रलीऐ खाकु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Cheeti aavahi tab hee pati pooree bisarat raleeai khaaku ||1|| rahaau ||

When You come to mind, Lord, then I obtain perfect honor. Forgetting You, I roll in the dust. ||1|| Pause ||

ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨ ਭੋਗਣ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥

रूप रंग खुसीआ मन भोगण ते ते छिद्र विकारा ॥

Roop rangg khuseeaa man bhoga(nn) te te chhidr vikaaraa ||

The mind's pleasures of love and beauty bring just as many blames and sins.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਕਲਿਆਣਾ ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜੁ ਇਹੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥੨॥

हरि का नामु निधानु कलिआणा सूख सहजु इहु सारा ॥२॥

Hari kaa naamu nidhaanu kaliaa(nn)aa sookh sahaju ihu saaraa ||2||

The Name of the Lord is the treasure of Emancipation; it is absolute peace and poise. ||2||

ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਬਿਰੰਗ ਖਿਨੈ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਦਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ॥

माइआ रंग बिरंग खिनै महि जिउ बादर की छाइआ ॥

Maaiaa rangg birangg khinai mahi jiu baadar kee chhaaiaa ||

The pleasures of Maya fade away in an instant, like the shade of a passing cloud.

ਸੇ ਲਾਲ ਭਏ ਗੂੜੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

से लाल भए गूड़ै रंगि राते जिन गुर मिलि हरि हरि गाइआ ॥३॥

Se laal bhae goo(rr)ai ranggi raate jin gur mili hari hari gaaiaa ||3||

They alone are dyed in the deep crimson of the Lord's Love, who meet the Guru, and sing the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3||

ਊਚ ਮੂਚ ਅਪਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਗਮ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥

ऊच मूच अपार सुआमी अगम दरबारा ॥

Uch mooch apaar suaamee agam darabaaraa ||

My Lord and Master is lofty and exalted, grand and infinite. The Darbaar of His Court is inaccessible.

ਨਾਮੋ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੬॥

नामो वडिआई सोभा नानक खसमु पिआरा ॥४॥७॥१६॥

Naamo vadiaaee sobhaa naanak khasamu piaaraa ||4||7||16||

Through the Naam, glorious greatness and respect are obtained; O Nanak, my Lord and Master is my Beloved. ||4||7||16||

Maaroo, Fifth Mehl, Fourth House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਉਤਪਾਤੀ ॥

ओअंकारि उतपाती ॥

Oamkkaari utapaatee ||

The One Universal Creator Lord created the creation.

ਕੀਆ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਸਭ ਰਾਤੀ ॥

कीआ दिनसु सभ राती ॥

Keeaa dinasu sabh raatee ||

He made all the days and the nights.

ਵਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਪਾਣੀ ॥

वणु त्रिणु त्रिभवण पाणी ॥

Va(nn)u tri(nn)u tribhava(nn) paa(nn)ee ||

The forests, meadows, three worlds, water,

ਚਾਰਿ ਬੇਦ ਚਾਰੇ ਖਾਣੀ ॥

चारि बेद चारे खाणी ॥

Chaari bed chaare khaa(nn)ee ||

The four Vedas, the four sources of creation,

ਖੰਡ ਦੀਪ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਆ ॥

खंड दीप सभि लोआ ॥

Khandd deep sabhi loaa ||

The countries, the continents and all the worlds,

ਏਕ ਕਵਾਵੈ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਆ ॥੧॥

एक कवावै ते सभि होआ ॥१॥

Ek kavaavai te sabhi hoaa ||1||

Have all come from the One Word of the Lord. ||1||

ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਰੇ ॥

करणैहारा बूझहु रे ॥

Kara(nn)aihaaraa boojhahu re ||

Hey - understand the Creator Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਸੂਝੈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुरु मिलै त सूझै रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Satiguru milai ta soojhai re ||1|| rahaau ||
