ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਉਚਾ ਕੂਕਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

पंडितु पड़ि पड़ि उचा कूकदा माइआ मोहि पिआरु ॥

Panddiŧu paɍi paɍi ūchaa kookađaa maaīâa mohi piâaru ||

The Pandits, the religious scholars, read and read, and shout out loud, but they are attached to the love of Maya.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਈ ਮਨਿ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥

अंतरि ब्रहमु न चीनई मनि मूरखु गावारु ॥

Ânŧŧari brhamu na cheenaëe mani moorakhu gaavaaru ||

They do not recognize God within themselves-they are so foolish and ignorant!

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਦਾ ਨਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

दूजै भाइ जगतु परबोधदा ना बूझै बीचारु ॥

Đoojai bhaaī jagaŧu parabođhađaa naa boojhai beechaaru ||

In the love of duality, they try to teach the world, but they do not understand meditative contemplation.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥

बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ मरि जमै वारो वार ॥१॥

Biraŧhaa janamu gavaaīâa mari jammai vaaro vaar ||1||

They lose their lives uselessly; they die, only to be re-born, over and over again. ||1||

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨੀ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

जिनी सतिगुरु सेविआ तिनी नाउ पाइआ बूझहु करि बीचारु ॥

Jinee saŧiguru seviâa ŧinee naaū paaīâa boojhahu kari beechaaru ||

Those who serve the True Guru obtain the Name. Reflect on this and understand.

ਸਦਾ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥

सदा सांति सुखु मनि वसै चूकै कूक पुकार ॥

Sađaa saanŧi sukhu mani vasai chookai kook pukaar ||

Eternal peace and joy abide in their minds; they abandon their cries and complaints.

ਆਪੈ ਨੋ ਆਪੁ ਖਾਇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

आपै नो आपु खाइ मनु निरमलु होवै गुर सबदी वीचारु ॥

Âapai no âapu khaaī manu niramalu hovai gur sabađee veechaaru ||

Their identity consumes their identical identity, and their minds become pure by contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥

नानक सबदि रते से मुकतु है हरि जीउ हेति पिआरु ॥२॥

Naanak sabađi raŧe se mukaŧu hai hari jeeū heŧi piâaru ||2||

O Nanak, attuned to the Shabad, they are liberated. They love their Beloved Lord. ||2||

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਵਰੀਆਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਅਹੰਕਰਣੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥

नानक सो सूरा वरीआमु जिनि विचहु दुसटु अहंकरणु मारिआ ॥

Naanak so sooraa vareeâamu jini vichahu đusatu âhankkarañu maariâa ||

O Nanak, he is a brave warrior, who conquers and subdues his vicious inner ego.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥

गुरमुखि नामु सालाहि जनमु सवारिआ ॥

Guramukhi naamu saalaahi janamu savaariâa ||

Praising the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Gurmukhs redeem their lives.

ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੁਲੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥

आपि होआ सदा मुकतु सभु कुलु निसतारिआ ॥

Âapi hoâa sađaa mukaŧu sabhu kulu nisaŧaariâa ||

They themselves are liberated forever, and they save all their ancestors.

ਸੋਹਨਿ ਸਚਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥

सोहनि सचि दुआरि नामु पिआरिआ ॥

Sohani sachi đuâari naamu piâariâa ||

Those who love the Naam look beauteous at the Gate of Truth.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਿਆ ॥

मनमुख मरहि अहंकारि मरणु विगाड़िआ ॥

Manamukh marahi âhankkaari marañu vigaaɍiâa ||

The self-willed manmukhs die in egotism-even their death is painfully ugly.

ਸਭੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ॥

सभो वरतै हुकमु किआ करहि विचारिआ ॥

Sabho varaŧai hukamu kiâa karahi vichaariâa ||

Everything happens according to the Lord's Will; what can the poor people do?

ਆਪਹੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥

आपहु दूजै लगि खसमु विसारिआ ॥

Âapahu đoojai lagi khasamu visaariâa ||

Attached to self-conceit and duality, they have forgotten their Lord and Master.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥

नानक बिनु नावै सभु दुखु सुखु विसारिआ ॥१॥

Naanak binu naavai sabhu đukhu sukhu visaariâa ||1||

O Nanak, without the Name, everything is painful, and happiness is forgotten. ||1||

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

गुरि पूरै हरि नामु दिड़ाइआ तिनि विचहु भरमु चुकाइआ ॥

Guri poorai hari naamu điɍaaīâa ŧini vichahu bharamu chukaaīâa ||

The Perfect Guru has implanted the Name of the Lord within me. It has dispelled my doubts from within.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਮਗੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥

राम नामु हरि कीरति गाई करि चानणु मगु दिखाइआ ॥

Raam naamu hari keeraŧi gaaëe kari chaanañu magu đikhaaīâa ||

I sing the Lord's Name and the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises; the Divine Light shines, and now I see the Way.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

हउमै मारि एक लिव लागी अंतरि नामु वसाइआ ॥

Haūmai maari ēk liv laagee ânŧŧari naamu vasaaīâa ||

Conquering my ego, I am lovingly focused on the One Lord; the Naam has come to dwell within me.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

गुरमती जमु जोहि न साकै साचै नामि समाइआ ॥

Guramaŧee jamu johi na saakai saachai naami samaaīâa ||

Following the Guru's Teachings, I cannot be touched by the Messenger of Death. I am absorbed in the True Name.

ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

सभु आपे आपि वरतै करता जो भावै सो नाइ लाइआ ॥

Sabhu âape âapi varaŧai karaŧaa jo bhaavai so naaī laaīâa ||

The Creator Himself is All-pervading everywhere; He links those with whom He is pleased to His Name.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏ ਤਾ ਜੀਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

जन नानकु नामु लए ता जीवै बिनु नावै खिनु मरि जाइआ ॥२॥

Jan naanaku naamu laē ŧaa jeevai binu naavai khinu mari jaaīâa ||2||

Servant Nanak chants the Naam, and so he lives. Without the Name, he would die in an instant. ||2||

ਆਤਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

आतमा देउ पूजीऐ गुर कै सहजि सुभाइ ॥

Âaŧamaa đeū poojeeâi gur kai sahaji subhaaī ||

Worship the Divine, Supreme Soul, with the intuitive peace and poise of the Guru.

ਆਤਮੇ ਨੋ ਆਤਮੇ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਾ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਚਾ ਪਾਇ ॥

आतमे नो आतमे दी प्रतीति होइ ता घर ही परचा पाइ ॥

Âaŧame no âaŧame đee prŧeeŧi hoī ŧaa ghar hee parachaa paaī ||

If the individual soul has faith in the Supreme Soul, then it shall obtain realization within its own home.

ਆਤਮਾ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਨ ਡੋਲਈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

आतमा अडोलु न डोलई गुर कै भाइ सुभाइ ॥

Âaŧamaa âdolu na dolaëe gur kai bhaaī subhaaī ||

The soul becomes steady, and does not waver, by the natural inclination of the Guru's Loving Will.

ਗੁਰ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

गुर विणु सहजु न आवई लोभु मैलु न विचहु जाइ ॥

Gur viñu sahaju na âavaëe lobhu mailu na vichahu jaaī ||

Without the Guru, intuitive wisdom does not come, and the filth of greed does not depart from within.

ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ॥

खिनु पलु हरि नामु मनि वसै सभ अठसठि तीरथ नाइ ॥

Khinu palu hari naamu mani vasai sabh âthasathi ŧeeraŧh naaī ||

If the Lord's Name abides within the mind, for a moment, even for an instant, it is like bathing at all the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਸਚੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

सचे मैलु न लगई मलु लागै दूजै भाइ ॥

Sache mailu na lagaëe malu laagai đoojai bhaaī ||

Filth does not stick to those who are true, but filth attaches itself to those who love duality.

ਧੋਤੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ॥

धोती मूलि न उतरै जे अठसठि तीरथ नाइ ॥

Đhoŧee mooli na ūŧarai je âthasathi ŧeeraŧh naaī ||

This filth cannot be washed off, even by bathing at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

मनमुख करम करे अहंकारी सभु दुखो दुखु कमाइ ॥

Manamukh karam kare âhankkaaree sabhu đukho đukhu kamaaī ||

The self-willed manmukh does deeds in egotism; he earns only pain and more pain.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈਲਾ ਊਜਲੁ ਤਾ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

नानक मैला ऊजलु ता थीऐ जा सतिगुर माहि समाइ ॥१॥

Naanak mailaa ǖjalu ŧaa ŧheeâi jaa saŧigur maahi samaaī ||1||

O Nanak, the filthy ones become clean only when they meet and surrender to the True Guru. ||1||

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਕਦਹੁ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

मनमुखु लोकु समझाईऐ कदहु समझाइआ जाइ ॥

Manamukhu loku samajhaaëeâi kađahu samajhaaīâa jaaī ||

The self-willed manmukhs may be taught, but how can they really be taught?

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਰਲਾਇਆ ਨਾ ਰਲੈ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥

मनमुखु रलाइआ ना रलै पइऐ किरति फिराइ ॥

Manamukhu ralaaīâa naa ralai paīâi kiraŧi phiraaī ||

The manmukhs do not fit in at all. Because of their past actions, they are condemned to the cycle of reincarnation.

ਲਿਵ ਧਾਤੁ ਦੁਇ ਰਾਹ ਹੈ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

लिव धातु दुइ राह है हुकमी कार कमाइ ॥

Liv đhaaŧu đuī raah hai hukamee kaar kamaaī ||

Loving attention to the Lord and attachment to Maya are the two separate ways; all act according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਇ ॥

गुरमुखि आपणा मनु मारिआ सबदि कसवटी लाइ ॥

Guramukhi âapañaa manu maariâa sabađi kasavatee laaī ||

The Gurmukh has conquered his own mind, by applying the Touchstone of the Shabad.

ਮਨ ਹੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਝਗੜਾ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਸਥ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮੰਝਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

मन ही नालि झगड़ा मन ही नालि सथ मन ही मंझि समाइ ॥

Man hee naali jhagaɍaa man hee naali saŧh man hee manjjhi samaaī ||

He fights with his mind, he settles with his mind, and he is at peace with his mind.

ਮਨੁ ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋ ਲਹੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

मनु जो इछे सो लहै सचै सबदि सुभाइ ॥

Manu jo īchhe so lahai sachai sabađi subhaaī ||

All obtain the desires of their minds, through the Love of the True Word of the Shabad.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਭੁੰਚੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

अम्रित नामु सद भुंचीऐ गुरमुखि कार कमाइ ॥

Âmmmriŧ naamu sađ bhunccheeâi guramukhi kaar kamaaī ||

They drink in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam forever; this is how the Gurmukhs act.

ਵਿਣੁ ਮਨੈ ਜਿ ਹੋਰੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਲੁਝਣਾ ਜਾਸੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

विणु मनै जि होरी नालि लुझणा जासी जनमु गवाइ ॥

Viñu manai ji horee naali lujhañaa jaasee janamu gavaaī ||

Those who struggle with something other than their own mind, shall depart having wasted their lives.

ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਮਨਹਠਿ ਹਾਰਿਆ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਸਤੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

मनमुखी मनहठि हारिआ कूड़ु कुसतु कमाइ ॥

Manamukhee manahathi haariâa kooɍu kusaŧu kamaaī ||

The self-willed manmukhs, through stubborn-mindedness and the practice of falsehood, lose the game of life.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨੁ ਜਿਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

गुर परसादी मनु जिणै हरि सेती लिव लाइ ॥

Gur parasaađee manu jiñai hari seŧee liv laaī ||

Those who conquer their own mind, by Guru's Grace, lovingly focus their attention on the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

नानक गुरमुखि सचु कमावै मनमुखि आवै जाइ ॥२॥

Naanak guramukhi sachu kamaavai manamukhi âavai jaaī ||2||

O Nanak, the Gurmukhs practice Truth, while the self-willed manmukhs continue coming and going in reincarnation. ||2||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਲਾਇ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवे आपणा सो सिरु लेखै लाइ ॥

Saŧiguru seve âapañaa so siru lekhai laaī ||

Those who serve their True Guru are certified and accepted.

ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਕੈ ਰਹਨਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

विचहु आपु गवाइ कै रहनि सचि लिव लाइ ॥

Vichahu âapu gavaaī kai rahani sachi liv laaī ||

They eradicate selfishness and conceit from within; they remain lovingly absorbed in the True One.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਤਿਨਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

सतिगुरु जिनी न सेविओ तिना बिरथा जनमु गवाइ ॥

Saŧiguru jinee na seviõ ŧinaa biraŧhaa janamu gavaaī ||

Those who do not serve the True Guru waste away their lives in vain.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

नानक जो तिसु भावै सो करे कहणा किछू न जाइ ॥१॥

Naanak jo ŧisu bhaavai so kare kahañaa kichhoo na jaaī ||1||

O Nanak, the Lord does just as He pleases. No one has any say in this. ||1||

ਮਨੁ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ਵੇੜਿਆ ਵੇਕਾਰਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

मनु वेकारी वेड़िआ वेकारा करम कमाइ ॥

Manu vekaaree veɍiâa vekaaraa karam kamaaī ||

With the mind encircled by wickedness and evil, people do evil deeds.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥

दूजै भाइ अगिआनी पूजदे दरगह मिलै सजाइ ॥

Đoojai bhaaī âgiâanee poojađe đaragah milai sajaaī ||

The ignorant worship the love of duality; in the Lord's Court they shall be punished.

ਆਤਮ ਦੇਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

आतम देउ पूजीऐ बिनु सतिगुर बूझ न पाइ ॥

Âaŧam đeū poojeeâi binu saŧigur boojh na paaī ||

So worship the Lord, the Light of the soul; without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained.

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥

जपु तपु संजमु भाणा सतिगुरू का करमी पलै पाइ ॥

Japu ŧapu sanjjamu bhaañaa saŧiguroo kaa karamee palai paaī ||

Meditation, penance and austere self-discipline are found by surrendering to the True Guru's Will. By His Grace this is received.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥

नानक सेवा सुरति कमावणी जो हरि भावै सो थाइ पाइ ॥२॥

Naanak sevaa suraŧi kamaavañee jo hari bhaavai so ŧhaaī paaī ||2||

O Nanak, serve with this intuitive awareness; only that which is pleasing to the Lord is approved. ||2||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕੀਤੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

सतिगुरु जिनी न सेविओ सबदि न कीतो वीचारु ॥

Saŧiguru jinee na seviõ sabađi na keeŧo veechaaru ||

Those who do not serve the True Guru, and who do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥

अंतरि गिआनु न आइओ मिरतकु है संसारि ॥

Ânŧŧari giâanu na âaīõ miraŧaku hai sanssaari ||

-spiritual wisdom does not enter into their hearts; they are like dead bodies in the world.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥

लख चउरासीह फेरु पइआ मरि जमै होइ खुआरु ॥

Lakh chaūraaseeh pheru paīâa mari jammai hoī khuâaru ||

They go through the cycle of 8.4 million reincarnations, and they are ruined through death and rebirth.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥

सतिगुर की सेवा सो करे जिस नो आपि कराए सोइ ॥

Saŧigur kee sevaa so kare jis no âapi karaaē soī ||

He alone serves the True Guru, whom the Lord Himself inspires to do so.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

सतिगुर विचि नामु निधानु है करमि परापति होइ ॥

Saŧigur vichi naamu niđhaanu hai karami paraapaŧi hoī ||

The Treasure of the Naam is within the True Guru; by His Grace, it is obtained.

ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਸਿਉ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਹੋਇ ॥

सचि रते गुर सबद सिउ तिन सची सदा लिव होइ ॥

Sachi raŧe gur sabađ siū ŧin sachee sađaa liv hoī ||

Those who are truly attuned to the Word of the Guru's Shabad-their love is forever True.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੇਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥

नानक जिस नो मेले न विछुड़ै सहजि समावै सोइ ॥१॥

Naanak jis no mele na vichhuɍai sahaji samaavai soī ||1||

O Nanak, those who are united with Him shall not be separated again. They merge imperceptibly into God. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਸੋ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੋੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੈ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

सो भगउती जो भगवंतै जाणै ॥

So bhagaūŧee jao bhagavanŧŧai jaañai ||

One who knows the Benevolent Lord God is the true devotee of Bhagaautee.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥

गुर परसादी आपु पछाणै ॥

Gur parasaađee âapu pachhaañai ||

By Guru's Grace, he is self-realized.

ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥

धावतु राखै इकतु घरि आणै ॥

Đhaavaŧu raakhai īkaŧu ghari âañai ||

He restrains his wandering mind, and brings it back to its own home within the self.

ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥

जीवतु मरै हरि नामु वखाणै ॥

Jeevaŧu marai hari naamu vakhaañai ||

He remains dead while yet alive, and he chants the Name of the Lord.

ਐਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਉਤਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

ऐसा भगउती उतमु होइ ॥

Âisaa bhagaūŧee ūŧamu hoī ||

Such a Bhagaautee is most exalted.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥

नानक सचि समावै सोइ ॥२॥

Naanak sachi samaavai soī ||2||

O Nanak, he merges into the True One. ||2||

Third Mehl:

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਕਹਾਏ ॥

अंतरि कपटु भगउती कहाए ॥

Ânŧŧari kapatu bhagaūŧee kahaaē ||

He is full of deceit, and yet he calls himself a devotee of Bhagaautee.

ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

पाखंडि पारब्रहमु कदे न पाए ॥

Paakhanddi paarabrhamu kađe na paaē ||

Through hypocrisy, he shall never attain the Supreme Lord God.

ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

पर निंदा करे अंतरि मलु लाए ॥

Par ninđđaa kare ânŧŧari malu laaē ||

He slanders others, and pollutes himself with his own filth.

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥

बाहरि मलु धोवै मन की जूठि न जाए ॥

Baahari malu đhovai man kee joothi na jaaē ||

Outwardly, he washes off the filth, but the impurity of his mind does not go away.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਬਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਏ ॥

सतसंगति सिउ बादु रचाए ॥

Saŧasanggaŧi siū baađu rachaaē ||

He argues with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਰਚਾਏ ॥

अनदिनु दुखीआ दूजै भाइ रचाए ॥

Ânađinu đukheeâa đoojai bhaaī rachaaē ||

Night and day, he suffers, engrossed in the love of duality.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥

हरि नामु न चेतै बहु करम कमाए ॥

Hari naamu na cheŧai bahu karam kamaaē ||

He does not remember the Name of the Lord, but still, he performs all sorts of empty rituals.

ਪੂਰਬ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥

पूरब लिखिआ सु मेटणा न जाए ॥

Poorab likhiâa su metañaa na jaaē ||

That which is pre-ordained cannot be erased.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥

नानक बिनु सतिगुर सेवे मोखु न पाए ॥३॥

Naanak binu saŧigur seve mokhu na paaē ||3||

O Nanak, without serving the True Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||3||

ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇ ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਲਖਣੀ ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੈ ਕੂੜਿਆਰਿ ॥

वेस करे कुरूपि कुलखणी मनि खोटै कूड़िआरि ॥

Ves kare kuroopi kulakhañee mani khotai kooɍiâari ||

She may wear good clothes, but the bride is ugly and rude; her mind is false and impure.

ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਨਾ ਚਲੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਗਾਵਾਰਿ ॥

पिर कै भाणै ना चलै हुकमु करे गावारि ॥

Pir kai bhaañai naa chalai hukamu kare gaavaari ||

She does not walk in harmony with the Will of her Husband Lord. Instead, she foolishly gives Him orders.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਿ ॥

गुर कै भाणै जो चलै सभि दुख निवारणहारि ॥

Gur kai bhaañai jo chalai sabhi đukh nivaarañahaari ||

But she who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will, shall be spared all pain and suffering.

ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥

लिखिआ मेटि न सकीऐ जो धुरि लिखिआ करतारि ॥

Likhiâa meti na sakeeâi jo đhuri likhiâa karaŧaari ||

That destiny which was pre-ordained by the Creator cannot be erased.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਕੰਤ ਕਉ ਸਬਦੇ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

मनु तनु सउपे कंत कउ सबदे धरे पिआरु ॥

Manu ŧanu saūpe kanŧŧ kaū sabađe đhare piâaru ||

She must dedicate her mind and body to her Husband Lord, and enshrine love for the Word of the Shabad.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

बिनु नावै किनै न पाइआ देखहु रिदै बीचारि ॥

Binu naavai kinai na paaīâa đekhahu riđai beechaari ||

Without His Name, no one has found Him; see this and reflect upon it in your heart.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਸੁਆਲਿਓ ਸੁਲਖਣੀ ਜਿ ਰਾਵੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

नानक सा सुआलिओ सुलखणी जि रावी सिरजनहारि ॥१॥

Naanak saa suâaliõ sulakhañee ji raavee sirajanahaari ||1||

O Nanak, she is beautiful and graceful; the Creator Lord ravishes and enjoys her. ||1||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਨ ਦਿਸੈ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥

माइआ मोहु गुबारु है तिस दा न दिसै उरवारु न पारु ॥

Maaīâa mohu gubaaru hai ŧis đaa na đisai ūravaaru na paaru ||

Attachment to Maya is an ocean of darkness; neither this shore nor the one beyond can be seen.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਡੁਬੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥

मनमुख अगिआनी महा दुखु पाइदे डुबे हरि नामु विसारि ॥

Manamukh âgiâanee mahaa đukhu paaīđe dube hari naamu visaari ||

The ignorant, self-willed manmukhs suffer in terrible pain; they forget the Lord's Name and drown.

ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

भलके उठि बहु करम कमावहि दूजै भाइ पिआरु ॥

Bhalake ūthi bahu karam kamaavahi đoojai bhaaī piâaru ||

They arise in the morning and perform all sorts of rituals, but they are caught in the love of duality.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवहि आपणा भउजलु उतरे पारि ॥

Saŧiguru sevahi âapañaa bhaūjalu ūŧare paari ||

Those who serve the True Guru cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

नानक गुरमुखि सचि समावहि सचु नामु उर धारि ॥२॥

Naanak guramukhi sachi samaavahi sachu naamu ūr đhaari ||2||

O Nanak, the Gurmukhs keep the True Name enshrined in their hearts; they are absorbed into the True One. ||2||

Shalok, Third Mehl:

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਕੁਲਖਣੀ ਕੁਨਾਰਿ ॥

मनमुख मैली कामणी कुलखणी कुनारि ॥

Manamukh mailee kaamañee kulakhañee kunaari ||

The self-willed manmukh, the foolish bride, is a filthy, rude and evil wife.

ਪਿਰੁ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

पिरु छोडिआ घरि आपणा पर पुरखै नालि पिआरु ॥

Piru chhodiâa ghari âapañaa par purakhai naali piâaru ||

Forsaking her Husband Lord and leaving her own home, she gives her love to another.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਜਲਦੀ ਕਰੇ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥

त्रिसना कदे न चुकई जलदी करे पूकार ॥

Ŧrisanaa kađe na chukaëe jalađee kare pookaar ||

Her desires are never satisfied, and she burns and cries out in pain.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਸੋਹਣੀ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਭਤਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

नानक बिनु नावै कुरूपि कुसोहणी परहरि छोडी भतारि ॥१॥

Naanak binu naavai kuroopi kusohañee parahari chhodee bhaŧaari ||1||

O Nanak, without the Name, she is ugly and ungraceful. She is abandoned and left behind by her Husband Lord. ||1||

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

सबदि रती सोहागणी सतिगुर कै भाइ पिआरि ॥

Sabađi raŧee sohaagañee saŧigur kai bhaaī piâari ||

The happy soul-bride is attuned to the Word of the Shabad; she is in love with the True Guru.

ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵੇ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

सदा रावे पिरु आपणा सचै प्रेमि पिआरि ॥

Sađaa raave piru âapañaa sachai premi piâari ||

She continually enjoys and ravishes her Beloved, with true love and affection.

ਅਤਿ ਸੁਆਲਿਉ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

अति सुआलिउ सुंदरी सोभावंती नारि ॥

Âŧi suâaliū sunđđaree sobhaavanŧŧee naari ||

She is such a loveable, beautiful and noble woman.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮੇਲੀ ਮੇਲਣਹਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

नानक नामि सोहागणी मेली मेलणहारि ॥२॥

Naanak naami sohaagañee melee melañahaari ||2||

O Nanak, through the Naam, the happy soul-bride unites with the Lord of Union. ||2||


ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Saŧigur kai bhaañai jo chalai ŧisu vadiâaëe vadee hoī ||

One who walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru, obtains the greatest glory.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਤਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

हरि का नामु उतमु मनि वसै मेटि न सकै कोइ ॥

Hari kaa naamu ūŧamu mani vasai meti na sakai koī ||

The Exalted Name of the Lord abides in his mind, and no one can take it away.

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

किरपा करे जिसु आपणी तिसु करमि परापति होइ ॥

Kirapaa kare jisu âapañee ŧisu karami paraapaŧi hoī ||

That person, upon whom the Lord bestows His Grace, receives His Mercy.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥

नानक कारणु करते वसि है गुरमुखि बूझै कोइ ॥१॥

Naanak kaarañu karaŧe vasi hai guramukhi boojhai koī ||1||

O Nanak, creativity is under the control of the Creator; how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, realize this! ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ ॥

नानक हरि नामु जिनी आराधिआ अनदिनु हरि लिव तार ॥

Naanak hari naamu jinee âaraađhiâa ânađinu hari liv ŧaar ||

O Nanak, those who worship and adore the Lord's Name night and day, vibrate the String of the Lord's Love.

ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਦੀ ਖਸਮ ਕੀ ਤਿਨ ਅਗੈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕਾਰ ॥

माइआ बंदी खसम की तिन अगै कमावै कार ॥

Maaīâa banđđee khasam kee ŧin âgai kamaavai kaar ||

Maya, the maid-servant of our Lord and Master, serves them.

ਪੂਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥

पूरै पूरा करि छोडिआ हुकमि सवारणहार ॥

Poorai pooraa kari chhodiâa hukami savaarañahaar ||

The Perfect One has made them perfect; by the Hukam of His Command, they are embellished.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

गुर परसादी जिनि बुझिआ तिनि पाइआ मोख दुआरु ॥

Gur parasaađee jini bujhiâa ŧini paaīâa mokh đuâaru ||

By Guru's Grace, they understand Him, and they find the gate of salvation.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ॥

मनमुख हुकमु न जाणनी तिन मारे जम जंदारु ॥

Manamukh hukamu na jaañanee ŧin maare jam janđđaaru ||

The self-willed manmukhs do not know the Lord's Command; they are beaten down by the Messenger of Death.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨੀ ਤਰਿਆ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

गुरमुखि जिनी अराधिआ तिनी तरिआ भउजलु संसारु ॥

Guramukhi jinee âraađhiâa ŧinee ŧariâa bhaūjalu sanssaaru ||

But the Gurmukhs, who worship and adore the Lord, cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਸਭਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਗੁਣੀ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

सभि अउगण गुणी मिटाइआ गुरु आपे बखसणहारु ॥२॥

Sabhi âūgañ guñee mitaaīâa guru âape bakhasañahaaru ||2||

All their demerits are erased, and replaced with merits. The Guru Himself is their Forgiver. ||2||

ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਖਾ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

आपणे प्रीतम मिलि रहा अंतरि रखा उरि धारि ॥

Âapañe preeŧam mili rahaa ânŧŧari rakhaa ūri đhaari ||

Oh, if only I could meet my Beloved, and keep Him enshrined deep within my heart!

ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

सालाही सो प्रभ सदा सदा गुर कै हेति पिआरि ॥

Saalaahee so prbh sađaa sađaa gur kai heŧi piâari ||

I praise that God forever and ever, through love and affection for the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਸਾਈ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

नानक जिसु नदरि करे तिसु मेलि लए साई सुहागणि नारि ॥१॥

Naanak jisu nađari kare ŧisu meli laē saaëe suhaagañi naari ||1||

O Nanak, that one upon whom He bestows His Glance of Grace is united with Him; such a person is the true soul-bride of the Lord. ||1||

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

गुर सेवा ते हरि पाईऐ जा कउ नदरि करेइ ॥

Gur sevaa ŧe hari paaëeâi jaa kaū nađari kareī ||

Serving the Guru, the Lord is obtained, when He bestows His Glance of Grace.

ਮਾਣਸ ਤੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭਏ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੇ ॥

माणस ते देवते भए धिआइआ नामु हरे ॥

Maañas ŧe đevaŧe bhaē đhiâaīâa naamu hare ||

They are transformed from humans into angels, meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰੇ ॥

हउमै मारि मिलाइअनु गुर कै सबदि तरे ॥

Haūmai maari milaaīânu gur kai sabađi ŧare ||

They conquer their egotism and merge with the Lord; they are saved through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ॥੨॥

नानक सहजि समाइअनु हरि आपणी क्रिपा करे ॥२॥

Naanak sahaji samaaīânu hari âapañee kripaa kare ||2||

O Nanak, they merge imperceptibly into the Lord, who has bestowed His Favor upon them. ||2||

Shalok, Third Mehl:

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥

जीउ पिंडु सभु तिस का सभसै देइ अधारु ॥

Jeeū pinddu sabhu ŧis kaa sabhasai đeī âđhaaru ||

Body and soul, all belong to Him. He gives His Support to all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥

नानक गुरमुखि सेवीऐ सदा सदा दातारु ॥

Naanak guramukhi seveeâi sađaa sađaa đaaŧaaru ||

O Nanak, become Gurmukh and serve Him, who is forever and ever the Giver.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

हउ बलिहारी तिन कउ जिनि धिआइआ हरि निरंकारु ॥

Haū balihaaree ŧin kaū jini đhiâaīâa hari nirankkaaru ||

I am a sacrifice to those who meditate on the Formless Lord.

ਓਨਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਉਜਲੇ ਓਨਾ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

ओना के मुख सद उजले ओना नो सभु जगतु करे नमसकारु ॥१॥

Õnaa ke mukh sađ ūjale õnaa no sabhu jagaŧu kare namasakaaru ||1||

Their faces are forever radiant, and the whole world bows in reverence to them. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਉਲਟੀ ਭਈ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਖਰਚਿਉ ਖਾਉ ॥

सतिगुर मिलिऐ उलटी भई नव निधि खरचिउ खाउ ॥

Saŧigur miliâi ūlatee bhaëe nav niđhi kharachiū khaaū ||

Meeting the True Guru, I am totally transformed; I have obtained the nine treasures to use and consume.

ਅਠਾਰਹ ਸਿਧੀ ਪਿਛੈ ਲਗੀਆ ਫਿਰਨਿ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਿਜ ਥਾਇ ॥

अठारह सिधी पिछै लगीआ फिरनि निज घरि वसै निज थाइ ॥

Âthaarah siđhee pichhai lageeâa phirani nij ghari vasai nij ŧhaaī ||

The Siddhis-the eighteen supernatural spiritual powers-follow in my footsteps; I dwell in my own home, within my own self.

ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਸਦ ਵਜਦੇ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

अनहद धुनी सद वजदे उनमनि हरि लिव लाइ ॥

Ânahađ đhunee sađ vajađe ūnamani hari liv laaī ||

The Unstruck Melody constantly vibrates within; my mind is exalted and uplifted-I am lovingly absorbed in the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਿਨ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥

नानक हरि भगति तिना कै मनि वसै जिन मसतकि लिखिआ धुरि पाइ ॥२॥

Naanak hari bhagaŧi ŧinaa kai mani vasai jin masaŧaki likhiâa đhuri paaī ||2||

O Nanak, devotion to the Lord abides within the minds of those who have such pre-ordained destiny written on their foreheads. ||2||


ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥

माझ महला ३ घरु १ ॥

Maajh mahalaa 3 gharu 1 ||

Maajh, Third Mehl, First House:

ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

करमु होवै सतिगुरू मिलाए ॥

Karamu hovai saŧiguroo milaaē ||

By His Mercy, we meet the True Guru.

ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

सेवा सुरति सबदि चितु लाए ॥

Sevaa suraŧi sabađi chiŧu laaē ||

Center your awareness on seva-selfless service-and focus your consciousness on the Word of the Shabad.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

हउमै मारि सदा सुखु पाइआ माइआ मोहु चुकावणिआ ॥१॥

Haūmai maari sađaa sukhu paaīâa maaīâa mohu chukaavañiâa ||1||

Subduing your ego, you shall find a lasting peace, and your emotional attachment to Maya will be dispelled. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी सतिगुर कै बलिहारणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree saŧigur kai balihaarañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, I am totally devoted to the True Guru.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੋਆ ਜੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमती परगासु होआ जी अनदिनु हरि गुण गावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramaŧee paragaasu hoâa jee ânađinu hari guñ gaavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Divine Light has dawned; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day. ||1|| Pause ||


ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ॥

तनु मनु खोजे ता नाउ पाए ॥

Ŧanu manu khoje ŧaa naaū paaē ||

Search your body and mind, and find the Name.

ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥

धावतु राखै ठाकि रहाए ॥

Đhaavaŧu raakhai thaaki rahaaē ||

Restrain your wandering mind, and keep it in check.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

गुर की बाणी अनदिनु गावै सहजे भगति करावणिआ ॥२॥

Gur kee baañee ânađinu gaavai sahaje bhagaŧi karaavañiâa ||2||

Night and day, sing the Songs of the Guru's Bani; worship the Lord with intuitive devotion. ||2||


ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਸੰਖਾ ॥

इसु काइआ अंदरि वसतु असंखा ॥

Īsu kaaīâa ânđđari vasaŧu âsankkhaa ||

Within this body are countless objects.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਵੇਖਾ ॥

गुरमुखि साचु मिलै ता वेखा ॥

Guramukhi saachu milai ŧaa vekhaa ||

The Gurmukh attains Truth, and comes to see them.

ਨਉ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਦਸਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

नउ दरवाजे दसवै मुकता अनहद सबदु वजावणिआ ॥३॥

Naū đaravaaje đasavai mukaŧaa ânahađ sabađu vajaavañiâa ||3||

Beyond the nine gates, the Tenth Gate is found, and liberation is obtained. The Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates. ||3||


ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥

सचा साहिबु सची नाई ॥

Sachaa saahibu sachee naaëe ||

True is the Master, and True is His Name.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥

गुर परसादी मंनि वसाई ॥

Gur parasaađee manni vasaaëe ||

By Guru's Grace, He comes to dwell within the mind.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

अनदिनु सदा रहै रंगि राता दरि सचै सोझी पावणिआ ॥४॥

Ânađinu sađaa rahai ranggi raaŧaa đari sachai sojhee paavañiâa ||4||

Night and day, remain attuned to the Lord's Love forever, and you shall obtain understanding in the True Court. ||4||


ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

पाप पुंन की सार न जाणी ॥

Paap punn kee saar na jaañee ||

Those who do not understand the nature of sin and virtue

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥

दूजै लागी भरमि भुलाणी ॥

Đoojai laagee bharami bhulaañee ||

Are attached to duality; they wander around deluded.

ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

अगिआनी अंधा मगु न जाणै फिरि फिरि आवण जावणिआ ॥५॥

Âgiâanee ânđđhaa magu na jaañai phiri phiri âavañ jaavañiâa ||5||

The ignorant and blind people do not know the way; they come and go in reincarnation over and over again. ||5||


ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

गुर सेवा ते सदा सुखु पाइआ ॥

Gur sevaa ŧe sađaa sukhu paaīâa ||

Serving the Guru, I have found eternal peace;

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥

हउमै मेरा ठाकि रहाइआ ॥

Haūmai meraa thaaki rahaaīâa ||

My ego has been silenced and subdued.

ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

गुर साखी मिटिआ अंधिआरा बजर कपाट खुलावणिआ ॥६॥

Gur saakhee mitiâa ânđđhiâaraa bajar kapaat khulaavañiâa ||6||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the darkness has been dispelled, and the heavy doors have been opened. ||6||


ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

हउमै मारि मंनि वसाइआ ॥

Haūmai maari manni vasaaīâa ||

Subduing my ego, I have enshrined the Lord within my mind.

ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

गुर चरणी सदा चितु लाइआ ॥

Gur charañee sađaa chiŧu laaīâa ||

I focus my consciousness on the Guru's Feet forever.

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

गुर किरपा ते मनु तनु निरमलु निरमल नामु धिआवणिआ ॥७॥

Gur kirapaa ŧe manu ŧanu niramalu niramal naamu đhiâavañiâa ||7||

By Guru's Grace, my mind and body are immaculate and pure; I meditate on the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||7||


ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਧੈ ਤਾਈ ॥

जीवणु मरणा सभु तुधै ताई ॥

Jeevañu marañaa sabhu ŧuđhai ŧaaëe ||

From birth to death, everything is for You.

ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

जिसु बखसे तिसु दे वडिआई ॥

Jisu bakhase ŧisu đe vadiâaëe ||

You bestow greatness upon those whom You have forgiven.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥

नानक नामु धिआइ सदा तूं जमणु मरणु सवारणिआ ॥८॥१॥२॥

Naanak naamu đhiâaī sađaa ŧoonn jammañu marañu savaarañiâa ||8||1||2||

O Nanak, meditating forever on the Naam, you shall be blessed in both birth and death. ||8||1||2||

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

मेरा प्रभु निरमलु अगम अपारा ॥

Meraa prbhu niramalu âgam âpaaraa ||

My God is Immaculate, Inaccessible and Infinite.

ਬਿਨੁ ਤਕੜੀ ਤੋਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

बिनु तकड़ी तोलै संसारा ॥

Binu ŧakaɍee ŧolai sanssaaraa ||

Without a scale, He weighs the universe.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

गुरमुखि होवै सोई बूझै गुण कहि गुणी समावणिआ ॥१॥

Guramukhi hovai soëe boojhai guñ kahi guñee samaavañiâa ||1||

One who becomes Gurmukh, understands. Chanting His Glorious Praises, he is absorbed into the Lord of Virtue. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी हरि का नामु मंनि वसावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree hari kaa naamu manni vasaavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those whose minds are filled with the Name of the Lord.

ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जो सचि लागे से अनदिनु जागे दरि सचै सोभा पावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jo sachi laage se ânađinu jaage đari sachai sobhaa paavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

Those who are committed to Truth remain awake and aware night and day. They are honored in the True Court. ||1|| Pause ||


ਆਪਿ ਸੁਣੈ ਤੈ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ॥

आपि सुणै तै आपे वेखै ॥

Âapi suñai ŧai âape vekhai ||

He Himself hears, and He Himself sees.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ॥

जिस नो नदरि करे सोई जनु लेखै ॥

Jis no nađari kare soëe janu lekhai ||

Those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, become acceptable.

ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

आपे लाइ लए सो लागै गुरमुखि सचु कमावणिआ ॥२॥

Âape laaī laē so laagai guramukhi sachu kamaavañiâa ||2||

They are attached, whom the Lord Himself attaches; as Gurmukh, they live the Truth. ||2||


ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਸੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਹਥੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

जिसु आपि भुलाए सु किथै हथु पाए ॥

Jisu âapi bhulaaē su kiŧhai haŧhu paaē ||

Those whom the Lord Himself misleads-whose hand can they take?

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥

पूरबि लिखिआ सु मेटणा न जाए ॥

Poorabi likhiâa su metañaa na jaaē ||

That which is pre-ordained, cannot be erased.

ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

जिन सतिगुरु मिलिआ से वडभागी पूरै करमि मिलावणिआ ॥३॥

Jin saŧiguru miliâa se vadabhaagee poorai karami milaavañiâa ||3||

Those who meet the True Guru are very fortunate and blessed; through perfect karma, He is met. ||3||


ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਧਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੁਤੀ ॥

पेईअड़ै धन अनदिनु सुती ॥

Peëeâɍai đhan ânađinu suŧee ||

The young bride is fast asleep in her parents' home, night and day.

ਕੰਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਤੀ ॥

कंति विसारी अवगणि मुती ॥

Kanŧŧi visaaree âvagañi muŧee ||

She has forgotten her Husband Lord; because of her faults and demerits, she is abandoned.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

अनदिनु सदा फिरै बिललादी बिनु पिर नीद न पावणिआ ॥४॥

Ânađinu sađaa phirai bilalaađee binu pir neeđ na paavañiâa ||4||

She wanders around continually, crying out, night and day. Without her Husband Lord, she cannot get any sleep. ||4||


ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਾਤਾ ॥

पेईअड़ै सुखदाता जाता ॥

Peëeâɍai sukhađaaŧaa jaaŧaa ||

In this world of her parents' home, she may come to know the Giver of peace,

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥

हउमै मारि गुर सबदि पछाता ॥

Haūmai maari gur sabađi pachhaaŧaa ||

If she subdues her ego, and recognizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

सेज सुहावी सदा पिरु रावे सचु सीगारु बणावणिआ ॥५॥

Sej suhaavee sađaa piru raave sachu seegaaru bañaavañiâa ||5||

Her bed is beautiful; she ravishes and enjoys her Husband Lord forever. She is adorned with the Decorations of Truth. ||5||


ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ॥

लख चउरासीह जीअ उपाए ॥

Lakh chaūraaseeh jeeâ ūpaaē ||

He created the 8.4 million species of beings.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

जिस नो नदरि करे तिसु गुरू मिलाए ॥

Jis no nađari kare ŧisu guroo milaaē ||

Those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, come to meet the Guru.

ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

किलबिख काटि सदा जन निरमल दरि सचै नामि सुहावणिआ ॥६॥

Kilabikh kaati sađaa jan niramal đari sachai naami suhaavañiâa ||6||

Shedding their sins, His servants are forever pure; at the True Court, they are beautified by the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||6||


ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਨਿ ਦੀਐ ॥

लेखा मागै ता किनि दीऐ ॥

Lekhaa maagai ŧaa kini đeeâi ||

When they are called to settle their accounts, who will answer then?

ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਦੂਐ ਤੀਐ ॥

सुखु नाही फुनि दूऐ तीऐ ॥

Sukhu naahee phuni đooâi ŧeeâi ||

There shall be no peace then, from counting out by twos and threes.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

आपे बखसि लए प्रभु साचा आपे बखसि मिलावणिआ ॥७॥

Âape bakhasi laē prbhu saachaa âape bakhasi milaavañiâa ||7||

The True Lord God Himself forgives, and having forgiven, He unites them with Himself. ||7||


ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥

आपि करे तै आपि कराए ॥

Âapi kare ŧai âapi karaaē ||

He Himself does, and He Himself causes all to be done.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

पूरे गुर कै सबदि मिलाए ॥

Poore gur kai sabađi milaaē ||

Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, He is met.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੩॥

नानक नामु मिलै वडिआई आपे मेलि मिलावणिआ ॥८॥२॥३॥

Naanak naamu milai vadiâaëe âape meli milaavañiâa ||8||2||3||

O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. He Himself unites in His Union. ||8||2||3||


ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

माझ महला ३ ॥

Maajh mahalaa 3 ||

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਇਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥

इको आपि फिरै परछंना ॥

Īko âapi phirai parachhannaa ||

The One Lord Himself moves about imperceptibly.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭਿੰਨਾ ॥

गुरमुखि वेखा ता इहु मनु भिंना ॥

Guramukhi vekhaa ŧaa īhu manu bhinnaa ||

As Gurmukh, I see Him, and then this mind is pleased and uplifted.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

त्रिसना तजि सहज सुखु पाइआ एको मंनि वसावणिआ ॥१॥

Ŧrisanaa ŧaji sahaj sukhu paaīâa ēko manni vasaavañiâa ||1||

Renouncing desire, I have found intuitive peace and poise; I have enshrined the One within my mind. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी इकसु सिउ चितु लावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree īkasu siū chiŧu laavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who focus their consciousness on the One.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमती मनु इकतु घरि आइआ सचै रंगि रंगावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramaŧee manu īkaŧu ghari âaīâa sachai ranggi ranggaavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, my mind has come to its only home; it is imbued with the True Color of the Lord's Love. ||1|| Pause ||


ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਤੈਂ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥

इहु जगु भूला तैं आपि भुलाइआ ॥

Īhu jagu bhoolaa ŧain âapi bhulaaīâa ||

This world is deluded; You Yourself have deluded it.

ਇਕੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥

इकु विसारि दूजै लोभाइआ ॥

Īku visaari đoojai lobhaaīâa ||

Forgetting the One, it has become engrossed in duality.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

अनदिनु सदा फिरै भ्रमि भूला बिनु नावै दुखु पावणिआ ॥२॥

Ânađinu sađaa phirai bhrmi bhoolaa binu naavai đukhu paavañiâa ||2||

Night and day, it wanders around endlessly, deluded by doubt; without the Name, it suffers in pain. ||2||


ਜੋ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥

जो रंगि राते करम बिधाते ॥

Jo ranggi raaŧe karam biđhaaŧe ||

Those who are attuned to the Love of the Lord, the Architect of Destiny

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤੇ ॥

गुर सेवा ते जुग चारे जाते ॥

Gur sevaa ŧe jug chaare jaaŧe ||

By serving the Guru, they are known throughout the four ages.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

जिस नो आपि देइ वडिआई हरि कै नामि समावणिआ ॥३॥

Jis no âapi đeī vadiâaëe hari kai naami samaavañiâa ||3||

Those, upon whom the Lord bestows greatness, are absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||3||


ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

माइआ मोहि हरि चेतै नाही ॥

Maaīâa mohi hari cheŧai naahee ||

Being in love with Maya, they do not think of the Lord.

ਜਮਪੁਰਿ ਬਧਾ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਹੀ ॥

जमपुरि बधा दुख सहाही ॥

Jamapuri bađhaa đukh sahaahee ||

Bound and gagged in the City of Death, they suffer in terrible pain.

ਅੰਨਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਪਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

अंना बोला किछु नदरि न आवै मनमुख पापि पचावणिआ ॥४॥

Ânnaa bolaa kichhu nađari na âavai manamukh paapi pachaavañiâa ||4||

Blind and deaf, they see nothing at all; the self-willed manmukhs rot away in sin. ||4||


ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

इकि रंगि राते जो तुधु आपि लिव लाए ॥

Īki ranggi raaŧe jo ŧuđhu âapi liv laaē ||

Those, whom You attach to Your Love, are attuned to Your Love.

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥

भाइ भगति तेरै मनि भाए ॥

Bhaaī bhagaŧi ŧerai mani bhaaē ||

Through loving devotional worship, they become pleasing to Your Mind.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਇਛਾ ਆਪਿ ਪੁਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

सतिगुरु सेवनि सदा सुखदाता सभ इछा आपि पुजावणिआ ॥५॥

Saŧiguru sevani sađaa sukhađaaŧaa sabh īchhaa âapi pujaavañiâa ||5||

They serve the True Guru, the Giver of eternal peace, and all their desires are fulfilled. ||5||


ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

हरि जीउ तेरी सदा सरणाई ॥

Hari jeeū ŧeree sađaa sarañaaëe ||

O Dear Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary forever.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

आपे बखसिहि दे वडिआई ॥

Âape bakhasihi đe vadiâaëe ||

You Yourself forgive us, and bless us with Glorious Greatness.

ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

जमकालु तिसु नेड़ि न आवै जो हरि हरि नामु धिआवणिआ ॥६॥

Jamakaalu ŧisu neɍi na âavai jo hari hari naamu đhiâavañiâa ||6||

The Messenger of Death does not draw near those who meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||6||


ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਏ ॥

अनदिनु राते जो हरि भाए ॥

Ânađinu raaŧe jo hari bhaaē ||

Night and day, they are attuned to His Love; they are pleasing to the Lord.

ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

मेरै प्रभि मेले मेलि मिलाए ॥

Merai prbhi mele meli milaaē ||

My God merges with them, and unites them in Union.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

सदा सदा सचे तेरी सरणाई तूं आपे सचु बुझावणिआ ॥७॥

Sađaa sađaa sache ŧeree sarañaaëe ŧoonn âape sachu bujhaavañiâa ||7||

Forever and ever, O True Lord, I seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary; You Yourself inspire us to understand the Truth. ||7||


ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥

जिन सचु जाता से सचि समाणे ॥

Jin sachu jaaŧaa se sachi samaañe ||

Those who know the Truth are absorbed in Truth.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥

हरि गुण गावहि सचु वखाणे ॥

Hari guñ gaavahi sachu vakhaañe ||

They sing the Lord's Glorious Praises, and speak the Truth.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੪॥

नानक नामि रते बैरागी निज घरि ताड़ी लावणिआ ॥८॥३॥४॥

Naanak naami raŧe bairaagee nij ghari ŧaaɍee laavañiâa ||8||3||4||

O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam remain unattached and balanced; in the home of the inner self, they are absorbed in the primal trance of deep meditation. ||8||3||4||


ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

माझ महला ३ ॥

Maajh mahalaa 3 ||

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੁ ਮੁਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥

सबदि मरै सु मुआ जापै ॥

Sabađi marai su muâa jaapai ||

One who dies in the Word of the Shabad is truly dead.

ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਚਾਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥

कालु न चापै दुखु न संतापै ॥

Kaalu na chaapai đukhu na sanŧŧaapai ||

Death does not crush him, and pain does not afflict him.

ਜੋਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

जोती विचि मिलि जोति समाणी सुणि मन सचि समावणिआ ॥१॥

Joŧee vichi mili joŧi samaañee suñi man sachi samaavañiâa ||1||

His light merges and is absorbed into the Light, when he hears and merges in the Truth. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी हरि कै नाइ सोभा पावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree hari kai naaī sobhaa paavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the Lord's Name, which brings us to glory.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवि सचि चितु लाइआ गुरमती सहजि समावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saŧiguru sevi sachi chiŧu laaīâa guramaŧee sahaji samaavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

One who serves the True Guru, and focuses his consciousness on Truth, following the Guru's Teachings, is absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||1|| Pause ||


ਕਾਇਆ ਕਚੀ ਕਚਾ ਚੀਰੁ ਹੰਢਾਏ ॥

काइआ कची कचा चीरु हंढाए ॥

Kaaīâa kachee kachaa cheeru handdhaaē ||

This human body is transitory, and transitory are the garments it wears.

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

दूजै लागी महलु न पाए ॥

Đoojai laagee mahalu na paaē ||

Attached to duality, no one attains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਦੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

अनदिनु जलदी फिरै दिनु राती बिनु पिर बहु दुखु पावणिआ ॥२॥

Ânađinu jalađee phirai đinu raaŧee binu pir bahu đukhu paavañiâa ||2||

Night and day, day and night, they burn. Without her Husband Lord, the soul-bride suffers in terrible pain. ||2||


ਦੇਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਏ ॥

देही जाति न आगै जाए ॥

Đehee jaaŧi na âagai jaaē ||

Her body and her status shall not go with her to the world hereafter.

ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਛੁਟੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥

जिथै लेखा मंगीऐ तिथै छुटै सचु कमाए ॥

Jiŧhai lekhaa manggeeâi ŧiŧhai chhutai sachu kamaaē ||

Where she is called to answer for her account, there, she shall be emancipated only by true actions.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

सतिगुरु सेवनि से धनवंते ऐथै ओथै नामि समावणिआ ॥३॥

Saŧiguru sevani se đhanavanŧŧe âiŧhai õŧhai naami samaavañiâa ||3||

Those who serve the True Guru shall prosper; here and hereafter, they are absorbed in the Naam. ||3||


ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਏ ॥

भै भाइ सीगारु बणाए ॥

Bhai bhaaī seegaaru bañaaē ||

She who adorns herself with the Love and the Fear of God,

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

गुर परसादी महलु घरु पाए ॥

Gur parasaađee mahalu gharu paaē ||

By Guru's Grace, obtains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence as her home.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

अनदिनु सदा रवै दिनु राती मजीठै रंगु बणावणिआ ॥४॥

Ânađinu sađaa ravai đinu raaŧee majeethai ranggu bañaavañiâa ||4||

Night and day, day and night, she constantly ravishes and enjoys her Beloved. She is dyed in the permanent color of His Love. ||4||


ਸਭਨਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

सभना पिरु वसै सदा नाले ॥

Sabhanaa piru vasai sađaa naale ||

The Husband Lord abides with everyone, always;

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥

गुर परसादी को नदरि निहाले ॥

Gur parasaađee ko nađari nihaale ||

But how rare are those few who, by Guru's Grace, obtain His Glance of Grace.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

मेरा प्रभु अति ऊचो ऊचा करि किरपा आपि मिलावणिआ ॥५॥

Meraa prbhu âŧi ǖcho ǖchaa kari kirapaa âapi milaavañiâa ||5||

My God is the Highest of the High; granting His Grace, He merges us into Himself. ||5||


ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸੁਤਾ ॥

माइआ मोहि इहु जगु सुता ॥

Maaīâa mohi īhu jagu suŧaa ||

This world is asleep in emotional attachment to Maya.

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੁਤਾ ॥

नामु विसारि अंति विगुता ॥

Naamu visaari ânŧŧi viguŧaa ||

Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, it ultimately comes to ruin.

ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੁਤਾ ਸੋ ਜਾਗਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

जिस ते सुता सो जागाए गुरमति सोझी पावणिआ ॥६॥

Jis ŧe suŧaa so jaagaaē guramaŧi sojhee paavañiâa ||6||

The One who put it to sleep shall also awaken it. Through the Guru's Teachings, understanding dawns. ||6||


ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਐ ਸੋ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

अपिउ पीऐ सो भरमु गवाए ॥

Âpiū peeâi so bharamu gavaaē ||

One who drinks in this Nectar, shall have his delusions dispelled.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥

गुर परसादि मुकति गति पाए ॥

Gur parasaađi mukaŧi gaŧi paaē ||

By Guru's Grace, the state of liberation is attained.

ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

भगती रता सदा बैरागी आपु मारि मिलावणिआ ॥७॥

Bhagaŧee raŧaa sađaa bairaagee âapu maari milaavañiâa ||7||

One who is imbued with devotion to the Lord, remains always balanced and detached. Subduing selfishness and conceit, he is united with the Lord. ||7||


ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਏ ॥

आपि उपाए धंधै लाए ॥

Âapi ūpaaē đhanđđhai laaē ||

He Himself creates, and He Himself assigns us to our tasks.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਪੜਾਏ ॥

लख चउरासी रिजकु आपि अपड़ाए ॥

Lakh chaūraasee rijaku âapi âpaɍaaē ||

He Himself gives sustenance to the 8.4 million species of beings.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੪॥੫॥

नानक नामु धिआइ सचि राते जो तिसु भावै सु कार करावणिआ ॥८॥४॥५॥

Naanak naamu đhiâaī sachi raaŧe jo ŧisu bhaavai su kaar karaavañiâa ||8||4||5||

O Nanak, those who meditate on the Naam are attuned to Truth. They do that which is pleasing to His Will. ||8||4||5||

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥

अंदरि हीरा लालु बणाइआ ॥

Ânđđari heeraa laalu bañaaīâa ||

Diamonds and rubies are produced deep within the self.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਰਖਿ ਪਰਖਾਇਆ ॥

गुर कै सबदि परखि परखाइआ ॥

Gur kai sabađi parakhi parakhaaīâa ||

They are assayed and valued through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਪਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

जिन सचु पलै सचु वखाणहि सचु कसवटी लावणिआ ॥१॥

Jin sachu palai sachu vakhaañahi sachu kasavatee laavañiâa ||1||

Those who have gathered Truth, speak Truth; they apply the Touch-stone of Truth. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी गुर की बाणी मंनि वसावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree gur kee baañee manni vasaavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Word of the Guru's Bani within their minds.

ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अंजन माहि निरंजनु पाइआ जोती जोति मिलावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ânjjan maahi niranjjanu paaīâa joŧee joŧi milaavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

In the midst of the darkness of the world, they obtain the Immaculate One, and their light merges into the Light. ||1|| Pause ||


ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥

इसु काइआ अंदरि बहुतु पसारा ॥

Īsu kaaīâa ânđđari bahuŧu pasaaraa ||

Within this body are countless vast vistas;

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

नामु निरंजनु अति अगम अपारा ॥

Naamu niranjjanu âŧi âgam âpaaraa ||

The Immaculate Naam is totally Inaccessible and Infinite.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि होवै सोई पाए आपे बखसि मिलावणिआ ॥२॥

Guramukhi hovai soëe paaē âape bakhasi milaavañiâa ||2||

He alone becomes Gurmukh and obtains it, whom the Lord forgives, and unites with Himself. ||2||


ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥

मेरा ठाकुरु सचु द्रिड़ाए ॥

Meraa thaakuru sachu đriɍaaē ||

My Lord and Master implants the Truth.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

गुर परसादी सचि चितु लाए ॥

Gur parasaađee sachi chiŧu laaē ||

By Guru's Grace, one's consciousness is attached to the Truth.

ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

सचो सचु वरतै सभनी थाई सचे सचि समावणिआ ॥३॥

Sacho sachu varaŧai sabhanee ŧhaaëe sache sachi samaavañiâa ||3||

The Truest of the True is pervading everywhere; the true ones merge in Truth. ||3||


ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

वेपरवाहु सचु मेरा पिआरा ॥

Veparavaahu sachu meraa piâaraa ||

The True Carefree Lord is my Beloved.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

किलविख अवगण काटणहारा ॥

Kilavikh âvagañ kaatañahaaraa ||

He cuts out our sinful mistakes and evil actions;

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

प्रेम प्रीति सदा धिआईऐ भै भाइ भगति द्रिड़ावणिआ ॥४॥

Prem preeŧi sađaa đhiâaëeâi bhai bhaaī bhagaŧi đriɍaavañiâa ||4||

With love and affection, meditate forever on Him. He implants the Fear of God and loving devotional worship within us. ||4||


ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਜੇ ਸਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

तेरी भगति सची जे सचे भावै ॥

Ŧeree bhagaŧi sachee je sache bhaavai ||

Devotional worship is True, if it pleases the True Lord.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ ॥

आपे देइ न पछोतावै ॥

Âape đeī na pachhoŧaavai ||

He Himself bestows it; He does not regret it later.

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

सभना जीआ का एको दाता सबदे मारि जीवावणिआ ॥५॥

Sabhanaa jeeâa kaa ēko đaaŧaa sabađe maari jeevaavañiâa ||5||

He alone is the Giver of all beings. The Lord kills with the Word of His Shabad, and then revives. ||5||


ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਮੈ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

हरि तुधु बाझहु मै कोई नाही ॥

Hari ŧuđhu baajhahu mai koëe naahee ||

Other than You, Lord, nothing is mine.

ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਸੇਵੀ ਤੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥

हरि तुधै सेवी तै तुधु सालाही ॥

Hari ŧuđhai sevee ŧai ŧuđhu saalaahee ||

I serve You, Lord, and I praise You.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਤੂੰ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

आपे मेलि लैहु प्रभ साचे पूरै करमि तूं पावणिआ ॥६॥

Âape meli laihu prbh saache poorai karami ŧoonn paavañiâa ||6||

You unite me with Yourself, O True God. Through perfect good karma You are obtained. ||6||


ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਧੈ ਜੇਹਾ ॥

मै होरु न कोई तुधै जेहा ॥

Mai horu na koëe ŧuđhai jehaa ||

For me, there is no other like You.

ਤੇਰੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਸੀਝਸਿ ਦੇਹਾ ॥

तेरी नदरी सीझसि देहा ॥

Ŧeree nađaree seejhasi đehaa ||

By Your Glance of Grace, my body is blessed and sanctified.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

अनदिनु सारि समालि हरि राखहि गुरमुखि सहजि समावणिआ ॥७॥

Ânađinu saari samaali hari raakhahi guramukhi sahaji samaavañiâa ||7||

Night and day, the Lord takes care of us and protects us. The Gurmukhs are absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||7||


ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

तुधु जेवडु मै होरु न कोई ॥

Ŧuđhu jevadu mai horu na koëe ||

For me, there is no other as Great as You.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਆਪੇ ਗੋਈ ॥

तुधु आपे सिरजी आपे गोई ॥

Ŧuđhu âape sirajee âape goëe ||

You Yourself create, and You Yourself destroy.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਘੜਿ ਭੰਨਿ ਸਵਾਰਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੫॥੬॥

तूं आपे ही घड़ि भंनि सवारहि नानक नामि सुहावणिआ ॥८॥५॥६॥

Ŧoonn âape hee ghaɍi bhanni savaarahi naanak naami suhaavañiâa ||8||5||6||

You Yourself create, destroy and adorn. O Nanak, we are adorned and embellished with the Naam. ||8||5||6||


ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

माझ महला ३ ॥

Maajh mahalaa 3 ||

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਸਭ ਘਟ ਆਪੇ ਭੋਗਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

सभ घट आपे भोगणहारा ॥

Sabh ghat âape bhogañahaaraa ||

He is the Enjoyer of all hearts.

ਅਲਖੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

अलखु वरतै अगम अपारा ॥

Âlakhu varaŧai âgam âpaaraa ||

The Invisible, Inaccessible and Infinite is pervading everywhere.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

गुर कै सबदि मेरा हरि प्रभु धिआईऐ सहजे सचि समावणिआ ॥१॥

Gur kai sabađi meraa hari prbhu đhiâaëeâi sahaje sachi samaavañiâa ||1||

Meditating on my Lord God, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I am intuitively absorbed in the Truth. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी गुर सबदु मंनि वसावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree gur sabađu manni vasaavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who implant the Word of the Guru's Shabad in their minds.

ਸਬਦੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सबदु सूझै ता मन सिउ लूझै मनसा मारि समावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sabađu soojhai ŧaa man siū loojhai manasaa maari samaavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

When someone understands the Shabad, then he wrestles with his own mind; subduing his desires, he merges with the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਮੁਹਹਿ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥

पंच दूत मुहहि संसारा ॥

Pancch đooŧ muhahi sanssaaraa ||

The five enemies are plundering the world.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਸਾਰਾ ॥

मनमुख अंधे सुधि न सारा ॥

Manamukh ânđđhe suđhi na saaraa ||

The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not understand or appreciate this.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਘਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि होवै सु अपणा घरु राखै पंच दूत सबदि पचावणिआ ॥२॥

Guramukhi hovai su âpañaa gharu raakhai pancch đooŧ sabađi pachaavañiâa ||2||

Those who become Gurmukh-their houses are protected. The five enemies are destroyed by the Shabad. ||2||


ਇਕਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥

इकि गुरमुखि सदा सचै रंगि राते ॥

Īki guramukhi sađaa sachai ranggi raaŧe ||

The Gurmukhs are forever imbued with love for the True One.

ਸਹਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਾਤੇ ॥

सहजे प्रभु सेवहि अनदिनु माते ॥

Sahaje prbhu sevahi ânađinu maaŧe ||

They serve God with intuitive ease. Night and day, they are intoxicated with His Love.

ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

मिलि प्रीतम सचे गुण गावहि हरि दरि सोभा पावणिआ ॥३॥

Mili preeŧam sache guñ gaavahi hari đari sobhaa paavañiâa ||3||

Meeting with their Beloved, they sing the Glorious Praises of the True one; they are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||3||


ਏਕਮ ਏਕੈ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥

एकम एकै आपु उपाइआ ॥

Ēkam ēkai âapu ūpaaīâa ||

First, the One created Himself;

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

दुबिधा दूजा त्रिबिधि माइआ ॥

Đubiđhaa đoojaa ŧribiđhi maaīâa ||

Second, the sense of duality; third, the three-phased Maya.

ਚਉਥੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਊਚੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

चउथी पउड़ी गुरमुखि ऊची सचो सचु कमावणिआ ॥४॥

Chaūŧhee paūɍee guramukhi ǖchee sacho sachu kamaavañiâa ||4||

The fourth state, the highest, is obtained by the Gurmukh, who practices Truth, and only Truth. ||4||


ਸਭੁ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਜੇ ਸਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

सभु है सचा जे सचे भावै ॥

Sabhu hai sachaa je sache bhaavai ||

Everything which is pleasing to the True Lord is true.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥

जिनि सचु जाता सो सहजि समावै ॥

Jini sachu jaaŧaa so sahaji samaavai ||

Those who know the Truth merge in intuitive peace and poise.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

गुरमुखि करणी सचे सेवहि साचे जाइ समावणिआ ॥५॥

Guramukhi karañee sache sevahi saache jaaī samaavañiâa ||5||

The life-style of the Gurmukh is to serve the True Lord. He goes and blends with the True Lord. ||5||


ਸਚੇ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਕੋ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਆ ॥

सचे बाझहु को अवरु न दूआ ॥

Sache baajhahu ko âvaru na đooâa ||

Without the True One, there is no other at all.

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਜਗੁ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮੂਆ ॥

दूजै लागि जगु खपि खपि मूआ ॥

Đoojai laagi jagu khapi khapi mooâa ||

Attached to duality, the world is distracted and distressed to death.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

गुरमुखि होवै सु एको जाणै एको सेवि सुखु पावणिआ ॥६॥

Guramukhi hovai su ēko jaañai ēko sevi sukhu paavañiâa ||6||

One who becomes Gurmukh knows only the One. Serving the One, peace is obtained. ||6||


ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥

जीअ जंत सभि सरणि तुमारी ॥

Jeeâ janŧŧ sabhi sarañi ŧumaaree ||

All beings and creatures are in the Protection of Your Sanctuary.

ਆਪੇ ਧਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਚੀ ਪਕੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥

आपे धरि देखहि कची पकी सारी ॥

Âape đhari đekhahi kachee pakee saaree ||

You place the chessmen on the board; You see the imperfect and the perfect as well.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

अनदिनु आपे कार कराए आपे मेलि मिलावणिआ ॥७॥

Ânađinu âape kaar karaaē âape meli milaavañiâa ||7||

Night and day, You cause people to act; You unite them in Union with Yourself. ||7||


ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

तूं आपे मेलहि वेखहि हदूरि ॥

Ŧoonn âape melahi vekhahi hađoori ||

You Yourself unite, and You see Yourself close at hand.

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

सभ महि आपि रहिआ भरपूरि ॥

Sabh mahi âapi rahiâa bharapoori ||

You Yourself are totally pervading amongst all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੬॥੭॥

नानक आपे आपि वरतै गुरमुखि सोझी पावणिआ ॥८॥६॥७॥

Naanak âape âapi varaŧai guramukhi sojhee paavañiâa ||8||6||7||

O Nanak, God Himself is pervading and permeating everywhere; only the Gurmukhs understand this. ||8||6||7||


ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maajh mahalaa 3 ||

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੀਠੀ ॥

अम्रित बाणी गुर की मीठी ॥

Âmmmriŧ baañee gur kee meethee ||

The Nectar of the Guru's Bani is very sweet.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਚਖਿ ਡੀਠੀ ॥

गुरमुखि विरलै किनै चखि डीठी ॥

Guramukhi viralai kinai chakhi deethee ||

Rare are the Gurmukhs who see and taste it.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

अंतरि परगासु महा रसु पीवै दरि सचै सबदु वजावणिआ ॥१॥

Ânŧŧari paragaasu mahaa rasu peevai đari sachai sabađu vajaavañiâa ||1||

The Divine Light dawns within, and the supreme essence is found. In the True Court, the Word of the Shabad vibrates. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी गुर चरणी चितु लावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree gur charañee chiŧu laavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who focus their consciousness on the Guru's Feet.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुरु है अम्रित सरु साचा मनु नावै मैलु चुकावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saŧiguru hai âmmmriŧ saru saachaa manu naavai mailu chukaavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

The True Guru is the True Pool of Nectar; bathing in it, the mind is washed clean of all filth. ||1|| Pause ||


ਤੇਰਾ ਸਚੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

तेरा सचे किनै अंतु न पाइआ ॥

Ŧeraa sache kinai ânŧŧu na paaīâa ||

Your limits, O True Lord, are not known to anyone.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

गुर परसादि किनै विरलै चितु लाइआ ॥

Gur parasaađi kinai viralai chiŧu laaīâa ||

Rare are those who, by Guru's Grace, focus their consciousness on You.

ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਨ ਰਜਾ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

तुधु सालाहि न रजा कबहूं सचे नावै की भुख लावणिआ ॥२॥

Ŧuđhu saalaahi na rajaa kabahoonn sache naavai kee bhukh laavañiâa ||2||

Praising You, I am never satisfied; such is the hunger I feel for the True Name. ||2||


ਏਕੋ ਵੇਖਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥

एको वेखा अवरु न बीआ ॥

Ēko vekhaa âvaru na beeâa ||

I see only the One, and no other.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ॥

गुर परसादी अम्रितु पीआ ॥

Gur parasaađee âmmmriŧu peeâa ||

By Guru's Grace, I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਿਖਾ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੂਖਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

गुर कै सबदि तिखा निवारी सहजे सूखि समावणिआ ॥३॥

Gur kai sabađi ŧikhaa nivaaree sahaje sookhi samaavañiâa ||3||

My thirst is quenched by the Word of the Guru's Shabad; I am absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||3||


ਰਤਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਲਰਿ ਤਿਆਗੈ ॥

रतनु पदारथु पलरि तिआगै ॥

Raŧanu pađaaraŧhu palari ŧiâagai ||

The Priceless Jewel is discarded like straw;

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

मनमुखु अंधा दूजै भाइ लागै ॥

Manamukhu ânđđhaa đoojai bhaaī laagai ||

The blind self-willed manmukhs are attached to the love of duality.

ਜੋ ਬੀਜੈ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

जो बीजै सोई फलु पाए सुपनै सुखु न पावणिआ ॥४॥

Jo beejai soëe phalu paaē supanai sukhu na paavañiâa ||4||

As they plant, so do they harvest. They shall not obtain peace, even in their dreams. ||4||


ਅਪਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

अपनी किरपा करे सोई जनु पाए ॥

Âpanee kirapaa kare soëe janu paaē ||

Those who are blessed with His Mercy find the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

गुर का सबदु मंनि वसाए ॥

Gur kaa sabađu manni vasaaē ||

The Word of the Guru's Shabad abides in the mind.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਭੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਭੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

अनदिनु सदा रहै भै अंदरि भै मारि भरमु चुकावणिआ ॥५॥

Ânađinu sađaa rahai bhai ânđđari bhai maari bharamu chukaavañiâa ||5||

Night and day, they remain in the Fear of God; conquering their fears, their doubts are dispelled. ||5||


ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

भरमु चुकाइआ सदा सुखु पाइआ ॥

Bharamu chukaaīâa sađaa sukhu paaīâa ||

Dispelling their doubts, they find a lasting peace.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

गुर परसादि परम पदु पाइआ ॥

Gur parasaađi param pađu paaīâa ||

By Guru's Grace, the supreme status is attained.

ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਹਜੇ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

अंतरु निरमलु निरमल बाणी हरि गुण सहजे गावणिआ ॥६॥

Ânŧŧaru niramalu niramal baañee hari guñ sahaje gaavañiâa ||6||

Deep within, they are pure, and their words are pure as well; intuitively, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||6||


ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥

सिम्रिति सासत बेद वखाणै ॥

Simriŧi saasaŧ beđ vakhaañai ||

They recite the Simritees, the Shaastras and the Vedas,

ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

भरमे भूला ततु न जाणै ॥

Bharame bhoolaa ŧaŧu na jaañai ||

But deluded by doubt, they do not understand the essence of reality.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

बिनु सतिगुर सेवे सुखु न पाए दुखो दुखु कमावणिआ ॥७॥

Binu saŧigur seve sukhu na paaē đukho đukhu kamaavañiâa ||7||

Without serving the True Guru, they find no peace; they earn only pain and misery. ||7||


ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥

आपि करे किसु आखै कोई ॥

Âapi kare kisu âakhai koëe ||

The Lord Himself acts; unto whom should we complain?

ਆਖਣਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥

आखणि जाईऐ जे भूला होई ॥

Âakhañi jaaëeâi je bhoolaa hoëe ||

How can anyone complain that the Lord has made a mistake?

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੭॥੮॥

नानक आपे करे कराए नामे नामि समावणिआ ॥८॥७॥८॥

Naanak âape kare karaaē naame naami samaavañiâa ||8||7||8||

O Nanak, the Lord Himself does, and causes things to be done; chanting the Naam, we are absorbed in the Naam. ||8||7||8||


ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

माझ महला ३ ॥

Maajh mahalaa 3 ||

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥

आपे रंगे सहजि सुभाए ॥

Âape rangge sahaji subhaaē ||

He Himself imbues us with His Love, with effortless ease.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਏ ॥

गुर कै सबदि हरि रंगु चड़ाए ॥

Gur kai sabađi hari ranggu chaɍaaē ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we are dyed in the color of the Lord's Love.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੀ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

मनु तनु रता रसना रंगि चलूली भै भाइ रंगु चड़ावणिआ ॥१॥

Manu ŧanu raŧaa rasanaa ranggi chaloolee bhai bhaaī ranggu chaɍaavañiâa ||1||

This mind and body are so imbued, and this tongue is dyed in the deep crimson color of the poppy. Through the Love and the Fear of God, we are dyed in this color. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी निरभउ मंनि वसावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree nirabhaū manni vasaavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Fearless Lord within their minds.

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर किरपा ते हरि निरभउ धिआइआ बिखु भउजलु सबदि तरावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur kirapaa ŧe hari nirabhaū đhiâaīâa bikhu bhaūjalu sabađi ŧaraavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

By Guru's Grace, I meditate on the Fearless Lord; the Shabad has carried me across the poisonous world-ocean. ||1|| Pause ||


ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥

मनमुख मुगध करहि चतुराई ॥

Manamukh mugađh karahi chaŧuraaëe ||

The idiotic self-willed manmukhs try to be clever,

ਨਾਤਾ ਧੋਤਾ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

नाता धोता थाइ न पाई ॥

Naaŧaa đhoŧaa ŧhaaī na paaëe ||

But in spite of their bathing and washing, they shall not be acceptable.

ਜੇਹਾ ਆਇਆ ਤੇਹਾ ਜਾਸੀ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

जेहा आइआ तेहा जासी करि अवगण पछोतावणिआ ॥२॥

Jehaa âaīâa ŧehaa jaasee kari âvagañ pachhoŧaavañiâa ||2||

As they came, so shall they go, regretting the mistakes they made. ||2||


ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥

मनमुख अंधे किछू न सूझै ॥

Manamukh ânđđhe kichhoo na soojhai ||

The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not understand anything;

ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਆਏ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥

मरणु लिखाइ आए नही बूझै ॥

Marañu likhaaī âaē nahee boojhai ||

Death was pre-ordained for them when they came into the world, but they do not understand.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

मनमुख करम करे नही पाए बिनु नावै जनमु गवावणिआ ॥३॥

Manamukh karam kare nahee paaē binu naavai janamu gavaavañiâa ||3||

The self-willed manmukhs may practice religious rituals, but they do not obtain the Name; without the Name, they lose this life in vain. ||3||


ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

सचु करणी सबदु है सारु ॥

Sachu karañee sabađu hai saaru ||

The practice of Truth is the essence of the Shabad.

ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

पूरै गुरि पाईऐ मोख दुआरु ॥

Poorai guri paaëeâi mokh đuâaru ||

Through the Perfect Guru, the gate of salvation is found.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

अनदिनु बाणी सबदि सुणाए सचि राते रंगि रंगावणिआ ॥४॥

Ânađinu baañee sabađi suñaaē sachi raaŧe ranggi ranggaavañiâa ||4||

So, night and day, listen to the Word of the Guru's Bani, and the Shabad. Let yourself be colored by this love. ||4||


ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

रसना हरि रसि राती रंगु लाए ॥

Rasanaa hari rasi raaŧee ranggu laaē ||

The tongue, imbued with the Lord's Essence, delights in His Love.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥

मनु तनु मोहिआ सहजि सुभाए ॥

Manu ŧanu mohiâa sahaji subhaaē ||

My mind and body are enticed by the Lord's Sublime Love.

ਸਹਜੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

सहजे प्रीतमु पिआरा पाइआ सहजे सहजि मिलावणिआ ॥५॥

Sahaje preeŧamu piâaraa paaīâa sahaje sahaji milaavañiâa ||5||

I have easily obtained my Darling Beloved; I am intuitively absorbed in celestial peace. ||5||


ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥

जिसु अंदरि रंगु सोई गुण गावै ॥

Jisu ânđđari ranggu soëe guñ gaavai ||

Those who have the Lord's Love within, sing His Glorious Praises;

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥

गुर कै सबदि सहजे सुखि समावै ॥

Gur kai sabađi sahaje sukhi samaavai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are intuitively absorbed in celestial peace.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

हउ बलिहारी सदा तिन विटहु गुर सेवा चितु लावणिआ ॥६॥

Haū balihaaree sađaa ŧin vitahu gur sevaa chiŧu laavañiâa ||6||

I am forever a sacrifice to those who dedicate their consciousness to the Guru's Service. ||6||


ਸਚਾ ਸਚੋ ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥

सचा सचो सचि पतीजै ॥

Sachaa sacho sachi paŧeejai ||

The True Lord is pleased with Truth, and only Truth.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥

गुर परसादी अंदरु भीजै ॥

Gur parasaađee ânđđaru bheejai ||

By Guru's Grace, one's inner being is deeply imbued with His Love.

ਬੈਸਿ ਸੁਥਾਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਤਿ ਮਨਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

बैसि सुथानि हरि गुण गावहि आपे करि सति मनावणिआ ॥७॥

Baisi suŧhaani hari guñ gaavahi âape kari saŧi manaavañiâa ||7||

Sitting in that blessed place, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, who Himself inspires us to accept His Truth. ||7||


ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥

जिस नो नदरि करे सो पाए ॥

Jis no nađari kare so paaē ||

That one, upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, obtains it.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਏ ॥

गुर परसादी हउमै जाए ॥

Gur parasaađee haūmai jaaē ||

By Guru's Grace, egotism departs.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੮॥੯॥

नानक नामु वसै मन अंतरि दरि सचै सोभा पावणिआ ॥८॥८॥९॥

Naanak naamu vasai man ânŧŧari đari sachai sobhaa paavañiâa ||8||8||9||

O Nanak, that one, within whose mind the Name dwells, is honored in the True Court. ||8||8||9||

Maajh Third Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

सतिगुरु सेविऐ वडी वडिआई ॥

Saŧiguru seviâi vadee vadiâaëe ||

Serving the True Guru is the greatest greatness.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥

हरि जी अचिंतु वसै मनि आई ॥

Hari jee âchinŧŧu vasai mani âaëe ||

The Dear Lord automatically comes to dwell in the mind.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਖਾ ਲਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

हरि जीउ सफलिओ बिरखु है अम्रितु जिनि पीता तिसु तिखा लहावणिआ ॥१॥

Hari jeeū saphaliõ birakhu hai âmmmriŧu jini peeŧaa ŧisu ŧikhaa lahaavañiâa ||1||

The Dear Lord is the fruit-bearing tree; drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar, thirst is quenched. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी सचु संगति मेलि मिलावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree sachu sanggaŧi meli milaavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the one who leads me to join the True Congregation.

ਹਰਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि सतसंगति आपे मेलै गुर सबदी हरि गुण गावणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari saŧasanggaŧi âape melai gur sabađee hari guñ gaavañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

The Lord Himself unites me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवी सबदि सुहाइआ ॥

Saŧiguru sevee sabađi suhaaīâa ||

I serve the True Guru; the Word of His Shabad is beautiful.

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

जिनि हरि का नामु मंनि वसाइआ ॥

Jini hari kaa naamu manni vasaaīâa ||

Through it, the Name of the Lord comes to dwell within the mind.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

हरि निरमलु हउमै मैलु गवाए दरि सचै सोभा पावणिआ ॥२॥

Hari niramalu haūmai mailu gavaaē đari sachai sobhaa paavañiâa ||2||

The Pure Lord removes the filth of egotism, and we are honored in the True Court. ||2||


ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

बिनु गुर नामु न पाइआ जाइ ॥

Binu gur naamu na paaīâa jaaī ||

Without the Guru, the Naam cannot be obtained.

ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥

सिध साधिक रहे बिललाइ ॥

Siđh saađhik rahe bilalaaī ||

The Siddhas and the seekers lack it; they weep and wail.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

बिनु गुर सेवे सुखु न होवी पूरै भागि गुरु पावणिआ ॥३॥

Binu gur seve sukhu na hovee poorai bhaagi guru paavañiâa ||3||

Without serving the True Guru, peace is not obtained; through perfect destiny, the Guru is found. ||3||


ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਰਸੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥

इहु मनु आरसी कोई गुरमुखि वेखै ॥

Īhu manu âarasee koëe guramukhi vekhai ||

This mind is a mirror; how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, see themselves in it.

ਮੋਰਚਾ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ॥

मोरचा न लागै जा हउमै सोखै ॥

Morachaa na laagai jaa haūmai sokhai ||

Rust does not stick to those who burn their ego.

ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

अनहत बाणी निरमल सबदु वजाए गुर सबदी सचि समावणिआ ॥४॥

Ânahaŧ baañee niramal sabađu vajaaē gur sabađee sachi samaavañiâa ||4||

The Unstruck Melody of the Bani resounds through the Pure Word of the Shabad; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we are absorbed into the True One. ||4||


ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਹੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

बिनु सतिगुर किहु न देखिआ जाइ ॥

Binu saŧigur kihu na đekhiâa jaaī ||

Without the True Guru, the Lord cannot be seen.

ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥

गुरि किरपा करि आपु दिता दिखाइ ॥

Guri kirapaa kari âapu điŧaa đikhaaī ||

Granting His Grace, He Himself has allowed me to see Him.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

आपे आपि आपि मिलि रहिआ सहजे सहजि समावणिआ ॥५॥

Âape âapi âapi mili rahiâa sahaje sahaji samaavañiâa ||5||

All by Himself, He Himself is permeating and pervading; He is intuitively absorbed in celestial peace. ||5||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

गुरमुखि होवै सु इकसु सिउ लिव लाए ॥

Guramukhi hovai su īkasu siū liv laaē ||

One who becomes Gurmukh embraces love for the One.

ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥

दूजा भरमु गुर सबदि जलाए ॥

Đoojaa bharamu gur sabađi jalaaē ||

Doubt and duality are burned away by the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

काइआ अंदरि वणजु करे वापारा नामु निधानु सचु पावणिआ ॥६॥

Kaaīâa ânđđari vañaju kare vaapaaraa naamu niđhaanu sachu paavañiâa ||6||

Within his body, he deals and trades, and obtains the Treasure of the True Name. ||6||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥

गुरमुखि करणी हरि कीरति सारु ॥

Guramukhi karañee hari keeraŧi saaru ||

The life-style of the Gurmukh is sublime; he sings the Praises of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

गुरमुखि पाए मोख दुआरु ॥

Guramukhi paaē mokh đuâaru ||

The Gurmukh finds the gate of salvation.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

अनदिनु रंगि रता गुण गावै अंदरि महलि बुलावणिआ ॥७॥

Ânađinu ranggi raŧaa guñ gaavai ânđđari mahali bulaavañiâa ||7||

Night and day, he is imbued with the Lord's Love. He sings the Lord's Glorious Praises, and he is called to the Mansion of His Presence. ||7||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥

सतिगुरु दाता मिलै मिलाइआ ॥

Saŧiguru đaaŧaa milai milaaīâa ||

The True Guru, the Giver, is met when the Lord leads us to meet Him.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

पूरै भागि मनि सबदु वसाइआ ॥

Poorai bhaagi mani sabađu vasaaīâa ||

Through perfect destiny, the Shabad is enshrined in the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੯॥੧੦॥

नानक नामु मिलै वडिआई हरि सचे के गुण गावणिआ ॥८॥९॥१०॥

Naanak naamu milai vadiâaëe hari sache ke guñ gaavañiâa ||8||9||10||

O Nanak, the greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained by chanting the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. ||8||9||10||

Those who lose their own selves obtain everything.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

गुर सबदी सची लिव लाए ॥

Gur sabađee sachee liv laaē ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they enshrine Love for the True one.

ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਘਰਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

सचु वणंजहि सचु संघरहि सचु वापारु करावणिआ ॥१॥

Sachu vañanjjahi sachu sanggharahi sachu vaapaaru karaavañiâa ||1||

They trade in Truth, they gather in Truth, and they deal only in Truth. ||1||


ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

हउ वारी जीउ वारी हरि गुण अनदिनु गावणिआ ॥

Haū vaaree jeeū vaaree hari guñ ânađinu gaavañiâa ||

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day.

ਹਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हउ तेरा तूं ठाकुरु मेरा सबदि वडिआई देवणिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Haū ŧeraa ŧoonn thaakuru meraa sabađi vadiâaëe đevañiâa ||1|| rahaaū ||

I am Yours, You are my Lord and Master. You bestow greatness through the Word of Your Shabad. ||1|| Pause ||


ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥

वेला वखत सभि सुहाइआ ॥

Velaa vakhaŧ sabhi suhaaīâa ||

That time, that moment is totally beautiful,

ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

जितु सचा मेरे मनि भाइआ ॥

Jiŧu sachaa mere mani bhaaīâa ||

When the True One becomes pleasing to my mind.

ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਚੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

सचे सेविऐ सचु वडिआई गुर किरपा ते सचु पावणिआ ॥२॥

Sache seviâi sachu vadiâaëe gur kirapaa ŧe sachu paavañiâa ||2||

Serving the True One, true greatness is obtained. By Guru's Grace, the True One is obtained. ||2||


ਭਾਉ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਏ ॥

भाउ भोजनु सतिगुरि तुठै पाए ॥

Bhaaū bhojanu saŧiguri ŧuthai paaē ||

The food of spiritual love is obtained when the True Guru is pleased.

ਅਨ ਰਸੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

अन रसु चूकै हरि रसु मंनि वसाए ॥

Ân rasu chookai hari rasu manni vasaaē ||

Other essences are forgotten, when the Lord's Essence comes to dwell in the mind

ਸਚੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

सचु संतोखु सहज सुखु बाणी पूरे गुर ते पावणिआ ॥३॥

Sachu sanŧŧokhu sahaj sukhu baañee poore gur ŧe paavañiâa ||3||

Truth, contentment and intuitive peace and poise are obtained from the Bani, the Word of the Perfect Guru. ||3||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥

सतिगुरु न सेवहि मूरख अंध गवारा ॥

Saŧiguru na sevahi moorakh ânđđh gavaaraa ||

The blind and ignorant fools do not serve the True Guru;

ਫਿਰਿ ਓਇ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥

फिरि ओइ किथहु पाइनि मोख दुआरा ॥

Phiri õī kiŧhahu paaīni mokh đuâaraa ||

How will they find the gate of salvation?

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

मरि मरि जमहि फिरि फिरि आवहि जम दरि चोटा खावणिआ ॥४॥

Mari mari jammahi phiri phiri âavahi jam đari chotaa khaavañiâa ||4||

They die and die, over and over again, only to be reborn, over and over again. They are struck down at Death's Door. ||4||


ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥

सबदै सादु जाणहि ता आपु पछाणहि ॥

Sabađai saađu jaañahi ŧaa âapu pachhaañahi ||

Those who know the essence of the Shabad, understand their own selves.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥

निरमल बाणी सबदि वखाणहि ॥

Niramal baañee sabađi vakhaañahi ||

Immaculate is the speech of those who chant the Word of the Shabad.

ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

सचे सेवि सदा सुखु पाइनि नउ निधि नामु मंनि वसावणिआ ॥५॥

Sache sevi sađaa sukhu paaīni naū niđhi naamu manni vasaavañiâa ||5||

Serving the True One, they find a lasting peace; they enshrine the nine treasures of the Naam within their minds. ||5||


ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥

सो थानु सुहाइआ जो हरि मनि भाइआ ॥

So ŧhaanu suhaaīâa jo hari mani bhaaīâa ||

Beautiful is that place, which is pleasing to the Lord's Mind.
