ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ।

सतिगुर सचा पातिसाहु पातिसाहा पातिसाहु सिरंदा ।

satigur sachaa paatisaahu paatisaahaa paatisaahu sirandaa |

The true Guru is the true emperor, and He is creator of the emperor of the emperors.


ਸਚੈ ਤਖਤਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਚ ਖੰਡਿ ਵਸੰਦਾ ।

सचै तखति निवासु है साधसंगति सच खंडि वसंदा ।

sachai takhat nivaas hai saadhasangat sach khandd vasandaa |

He sits on the throne of truth, and resides in holy congregation, the abode of truth.


ਸਚੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਮੂਲਿ ਫਿਰੰਦਾ ।

सचु फुरमाणु नीसाणु सचु सचा हुकमु न मूलि फिरंदा ।

sach furamaan neesaan sach sachaa hukam na mool firandaa |

Truth is His mark and order, and His command is irrefutable.


ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਹੁਇ ਸਬਦ ਮਿਲੰਦਾ ।

सचु सबदु टकसाल सचु गुर ते गुर हुइ सबद मिलंदा ।

sach sabad ttakasaal sach gur te gur hue sabad milandaa |

He, whose Word is true and whose treasure is true, is attainable in the form of the word of the Guru.


ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਗ ਰਤਨ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਭਾਵੰਦਾ ।

सची भगति भंडार सचु राग रतन कीरतनु भावंदा ।

sachee bhagat bhanddaar sach raag ratan keeratan bhaavandaa |

His devotion is true, His warehouse is true and He likes love and kirtan.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਦੋਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਰੰਦਾ ।

गुरमुखि सचा पंथु है सचु दोही सचु राजु करंदा ।

guramukh sachaa panth hai sach dohee sach raaj karandaa |

The way of the gurmukhs is also true, their slogan is truth, and their kingdom is also the kingdom of truth.


ਵੀਹ ਇਕੀਹ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉ ਚੜ੍ਹੰਦਾ ।੧।

वीह इकीह चढ़ाउ चढ़ंदा ।१।

veeh ikeeh charrhaau charrhandaa |1|

The treader on this path, crossing the world, goes on to meet the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਇਆ ।

गुर परमेसरु जाणीऐ सचे सचा नाउ धराइआ ।

gur paramesar jaaneeai sache sachaa naau dharaaeaa |

The Guru ought to be known as the Supreme Lord, because only that true being has adopted the true name (of the Lord).


ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਸਦਾਇਆ ।

निरंकारु आकारु होइ एकंकारु अपारु सदाइआ ।

nirankaar aakaar hoe ekankaar apaar sadaaeaa |

The formless Lord has made His self known in the form of EkOnkaar, the one boundless being.


ਏਕੰਕਾਰਹੁ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਅਕਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ।

एकंकारहु सबद धुनि ओअंकारि अकारु बणाइआ ।

ekankaarahu sabad dhun oankaar akaar banaaeaa |

From EkOnkaar came up Oankar, the Word vibration (Oankar) which further came to be known as the world, full of names and forms.


ਇਕਦੂ ਹੋਇ ਤਿਨਿ ਦੇਵ ਤਿਹੁਂ ਮਿਲਿ ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਗਣਾਇਆ ।

इकदू होइ तिनि देव तिहुं मिलि दस अवतार गणाइआ ।

eikadoo hoe tin dev tihun mil das avataar ganaaeaa |

From the one Lord, came out three gods (Brahma, Visnu and Mahesha), who further got themselves counted among the ten incarnations (avatar).


ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਹੈ ਓਹੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਓਨ੍ਹਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ।

आदि पुरखु आदेसु है ओहु वेखै ओन्हा नदरि न आइआ ।

aad purakh aades hai ohu vekhai onhaa nadar na aaeaa |

I salute this primal Being, who sees them all but is Himself invisible.


ਸੇਖ ਨਾਗ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਕਰੈ ਨਾਵਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਬਿਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ।

सेख नाग सिमरणु करै नावा अंतु बिअंतु न पाइआ ।

sekh naag simaran karai naavaa ant biant na paaeaa |

The mythical snake (Sesanag) recites and remembers Him through His myriad names but even then, knows nothing about His ultimate extent.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ।੨।

गुरमुखि सचु नाउ मनि भाइआ ।२।

guramukh sach naau man bhaaeaa |2|

The true name of the Lord is loved by gurmukhs.

ਅੰਬਰੁ ਧਰਤਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਅਨੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕਹਾਇਆ ।

अंबरु धरति विछोड़िअनु कुदरति करि करतार कहाइआ ।

anbar dharat vichhorrian kudarat kar karataar kahaaeaa |

God has stabilized earth and sky separately and He is known as the creator.


ਧਰਤੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਥੰਮਾਂ ਆਗਾਸੁ ਰਹਾਇਆ ।

धरती अंदरि पाणीऐ विणु थंमां आगासु रहाइआ ।

dharatee andar paaneeai vin thamaan aagaas rahaaeaa |

He has settled earth in water, and without props, He has placed the sky in a stable position.


ਇੰਨ੍ਹਣ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਅਗਿ ਧਰਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਚੰਦੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ।

इंन्हण अंदरि अगि धरि अहिनिसि सूरजु चंदु उपाइआ ।

einhan andar ag dhar ahinis sooraj chand upaaeaa |

Putting fire in the fuel, He has created sun and moon, shining day and night.


ਛਿਅ ਰੁਤਿ ਬਾਰਹ ਮਾਹ ਕਰਿ ਖਾਣੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਚਲਤੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ।

छिअ रुति बारह माह करि खाणी बाणी चलतु रचाइआ ।

chhia rut baarah maah kar khaanee baanee chalat rachaaeaa |

Making six seasons and twelve months, He has undertaken the sport of creating four life-originating mines and four speeches.


ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ।

माणस जनमु दुलंभु है सफलु जनमु गुरु पूरा पाइआ ।

maanas janam dulanbh hai safal janam gur pooraa paaeaa |

Human life is rare and whosoever has found the perfect Guru, his life is blessed.


ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ।੩।

साधसंगति मिलि सहजि समाइआ ।३।

saadhasangat mil sehaj samaaeaa |3|

Meeting the holy congregation, man is absorbed in equipoise.

सतिगुरु सचु दातारु है माणस जनमु अमोलु दिवाइआ ।

satigur sach daataar hai maanas janam amol divaaeaa |

The true Guru is truly benevolent, as he has granted us the human life.


ਮੂਹੁ ਅਖੀ ਨਕੁ ਕੰਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਥ ਪੈਰ ਦੇ ਚਲੈ ਚਲਾਇਆ ।

मूहु अखी नकु कंनु करि हथ पैर दे चलै चलाइआ ।

moohu akhee nak kan kar hath pair de chalai chalaaeaa |

Mouth, eyes, nose, ears, He created and has given feet so that the individual could move around.


ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ।

भाउ भगति उपदेसु करि नामु दानु इसनानु दिड़ाइआ ।

bhaau bhagat upades kar naam daan isanaan dirraaeaa |

Preaching loving devotion, the true Guru has bestowed on the people steadfastness in remembering the Lord's name (naam), charity and ablution.


ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੈ ਨਾਵਣਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ।

अंम्रित वेलै नावणा गुरमुखि जपु गुर मंतु जपाइआ ।

amrit velai naavanaa guramukh jap gur mant japaaeaa |

In ambrosial hours, the gurmukhs undertake to inspire themselves and others to bathe and recite the mantra of the Guru.


ਰਾਤਿ ਆਰਤੀ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਉਦਾਸੁ ਰਹਾਇਆ ।

राति आरती सोहिला माइआ विचि उदासु रहाइआ ।

raat aaratee sohilaa maaeaa vich udaas rahaaeaa |

In the evening, instructing the recitation of Aarti and Sohila, the true Guru has inspired people to remain detached amidst maya.


ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਚਲਣੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਇਆ ।

मिठा बोलणु निवि चलणु हथहु देइ न आपु गणाइआ ।

mitthaa bolan niv chalan hathahu dee na aap ganaaeaa |

The Guru has preached people to speak mildly/sweetly/politely/softly, to conduct themselves humbly and to not get noticed even after giving something to others.


ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਿਛੈ ਲਾਇਆ ।੪।

चारि पदारथ पिछै लाइआ ।४।

chaar padaarath pichhai laaeaa |4|

This way, the true Guru has made all the four ideals (dharma, artha, kaam and moksha) of life to follow him.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਵਡੇ ਦੀ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ।

सतिगुरु वडा आखीऐ वडे दी वडी वडिआई ।

satigur vaddaa aakheeai vadde dee vaddee vaddiaaee |

The true Guru is called great, and the glory of the great is also great.


ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਅਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਲਖ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ।

ओअंकारि अकारु करि लख दरीआउ न कीमति पाई ।

oankaar akaar kar lakh dareeaau na keemat paaee |

Oankar has assumed the form of the world and lakhs of life-streams could not know about His grandeur.


ਇਕ ਵਰਭੰਡੁ ਅਖੰਡੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕਰਿ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਦਿਵਾਈ ।

इक वरभंडु अखंडु है जीअ जंत करि रिजकु दिवाई ।

eik varabhandd akhandd hai jeea jant kar rijak divaaee |

The One Lord uninterruptedly is pervading the whole universe and provides livelihood to all creatures.


ਲੂੰਅ ਲੂੰਅ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਵਰਭੰਡ ਕਰੋੜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ।

लूंअ लूंअ विचि रखिओनु करि वरभंड करोड़ि समाई ।

loona loona vich rakhion kar varabhandd karorr samaaee |

That Lord has subsumed crores of universes in His each trichome.


ਕੇਵਡੁ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਵਣ ਥਾਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਪੁਛਾਂ ਜਾਈ ।

केवडु वडा आखीऐ कवण थाउ किसु पुछां जाई ।

kevadd vaddaa aakheeai kavan thaau kis puchhaan jaaee |

How His expanse may be explained and whom should one ask as to where He resides.


ਅਪੜਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੰਘਈ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖਣ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈ ।

अपड़ि कोइ न हंघई सुणि सुणि आखण आखि सुणाई ।

aparr koe na hanghee sun sun aakhan aakh sunaaee |

None can reach Him; all talk about Him is on the basis of hearsay.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੀ ਆਈ ।੫।

सतिगुरु मूरति परगटी आई ।५।

satigur moorat paragattee aaee |5|

That Lord has become manifest in the form of the true Guru.

ਧਿਆਨੁ ਮੂਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੋ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਜਾਣੋਈ ।

धिआनु मूलु गुर दरसनो पूरन ब्रहमु जाणि जाणोई ।

dhiaan mool gur darasano pooran braham jaan jaanoee |

The glimpse of the Guru is the basis of meditation because Guru is perfect Brahm and this fact is known to a rare one.


ਪੂਜ ਮੂਲ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਚਰਣ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸੇਵ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਈ ।

पूज मूल सतिगुरु चरण करि गुरदेव सेव सुख होई ।

pooj mool satigur charan kar guradev sev sukh hoee |

The feet of the true Guru, the root of all delights, should be worshipped and only then the delight would be attained.


ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੂਲੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬਚਨ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਰਾਧੈ ਕੋਈ ।

मंत्र मूलु सतिगुरु बचन इक मनि होइ अराधै कोई ।

mantr mool satigur bachan ik man hoe araadhai koee |

The instructions of the true Guru is the basic formula (mool mantra), whose adoration with single minded devotion is undertaken by rare one.


ਮੋਖ ਮੂਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸੋਈ ।

मोख मूलु किरपा गुरू जीवनु मुकति साधसंगि सोई ।

mokh mool kirapaa guroo jeevan mukat saadhasang soee |

The basis of liberation is the grace of the Guru and one attains liberation in life, in the holy congregation (sadhsangat).


ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਿਰਲੋਈ ।

आपु गणाइ न पाईऐ आपु गवाइ मिलै विरलोई ।

aap ganaae na paaeeai aap gavaae milai viraloee |

Making oneself noticed, none can attain the Lord; and by shedding the ego, any rare one meets Him.


ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਆਪ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ।

आपु गवाए आप है सभ को आपि आपे सभु कोई ।

aap gavaae aap hai sabh ko aap aape sabh koee |

He who annihilates his ego, in fact, is the Lord Himself; he knowns everyone as his form and all accept him as their form.


ਗੁਰੁ ਚੇਲਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਈ ।੬।

गुरु चेला चेला गुरु होई ।६।

gur chelaa chelaa gur hoee |6|

This way, that individual in the form of Guru becomes disciple and the disciple is turned to be Guru.

ਸਤਿਜੁਗ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਣਿਆ ਇਕਸ ਪਿਛੈ ਦੇਸੁ ਦੁਖਾਲਾ ।

सतिजुग पाप कमाणिआ इकस पिछै देसु दुखाला ।

satijug paap kamaaniaa ikas pichhai des dukhaalaa |

In satyug, the whole country suffered due to the evil deeds of one individual.


ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਨਗਰੀ ਪੀੜੀਐ ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਵੰਸੁ ਕੋ ਦਾਲਾ ।

त्रेतै नगरी पीड़ीऐ दुआपुरि पापु वंसु को दाला ।

tretai nagaree peerreeai duaapur paap vans ko daalaa |

In treta-yug, the evil committed by one, made the whole city suffer and in dvapar-yug, the whole family underwent the pains.


ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਬੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਲੁਣੈ ਵਰਤੈ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਆਉ ਸੁਖਾਲਾ ।

कलिजुगि बीजै सो लुणै वरतै धरम निआउ सुखाला ।

kalijug beejai so lunai varatai dharam niaau sukhaalaa |

Simple is the justice of kaliyug; here only he reaps who sows.


ਫਲੈ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਤਿਹੁ ਜੁਗੀਂ ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਸਫਲੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਤਕਾਲਾ ।

फलै कमाणा तिहु जुगीं कलिजुगि सफलु धरमु ततकाला ।

falai kamaanaa tihu jugeen kalijug safal dharam tatakaalaa |

In other three yugs, the fruit of the action was earned and accumulated but in kaliyug, one gets the fruit of dharma immediately.


ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਣੈ ਲੇਪੁ ਹੈ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਫਲੁ ਫਲ ਵਾਲਾ ।

पाप कमाणै लेपु है चितवै धरम सुफलु फल वाला ।

paap kamaanai lep hai chitavai dharam sufal fal vaalaa |

Something happens only after doing something in the kaliyug, but even the thought of dharma gives the happy fruit in it.


ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਜਨਿ ਬੀਜੁ ਸਚੀ ਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ ।

भाइ भगति गुरपुरब करि बीजनि बीजु सची धरमसाला ।

bhaae bhagat gurapurab kar beejan beej sachee dharamasaalaa |

The gurmukhs, contemplating on the wisdom of Guru and the loving devotion, sow the seed in earth, the true abode of truth.


ਸਫਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਣ ਘਾਲਾ ।੭।

सफल मनोरथ पूरण घाला ।७।

safal manorath pooran ghaalaa |7|

They succeed in their practice and objective.

ਸਤਿਜੁਗਿ ਸਤਿ ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਜੁਗਾ ਦੁਆਪਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਬਹਲੀ ਘਾਲਾ ।

सतिजुगि सति त्रेतै जुगा दुआपरि पूजा बहली घाला ।

satijug sat tretai jugaa duaapar poojaa bahalee ghaalaa |

In satyug the truth, in treta and dvapar, worship and ascetic discipline were in vogue.


ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਉਂ ਲੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਵੈ ਭਵਜਲ ਭਰਨਾਲਾ ।

कलिजुगि गुरमुखि नाउं लै पारि पवै भवजल भरनाला ।

kalijug guramukh naaun lai paar pavai bhavajal bharanaalaa |

In kaliyug, the gurmukhs, go across the world-ocean by repeating the name of the Lord.


ਚਾਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਤਿਜੁਗੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਚਉਥੈ ਚਰਣ ਉਕਾਲਾ ।

चारि चरण सतिजुगै विचि त्रेतै चउथै चरण उकाला ।

chaar charan satijugai vich tretai chauthai charan ukaalaa |

Dharma had four feet in the satyug, but in treta, the fourth foot of dharma was made cripple.


ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਹੋਏ ਪੈਰ ਦੁਇ ਇਕਤੈ ਪੈਰ ਧਰੰਮੁ ਦੁਖਾਲਾ ।

दुआपुरि होए पैर दुइ इकतै पैर धरंमु दुखाला ।

duaapur hoe pair due ikatai pair dharam dukhaalaa |

In dvapar, only two feet of dharma survived, and in kaliyug, the dharma stands only on one foot to undergo the sufferings.


ਮਾਣੁ ਨਿਮਾਣੈ ਜਾਣਿ ਕੈ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ।

माणु निमाणै जाणि कै बिनउ करै करि नदरि निहाला ।

maan nimaanai jaan kai binau karai kar nadar nihaalaa |

Considering the Lord as the strength of the powerless ones, it (dharma) started praying for the liberation through the grace of the Lord.


ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਧਰਮ ਸਚੀ ਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ ।

The Lord, manifesting in the form of the perfect Guru, created the true abode of fortitude and the dharma.

आपे खेतु आपे रखवाला ।८।

Himself is the field (of creation) and Himself its protector.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਾਉ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਹਿ ਭਉ ਮੁਚੁ ਭਉ ਅਗੈ ਨਿਭਵਿਆਹਾ ।

जिन्हां भाउ तिन नाहि भउ मुचु भउ अगै निभविआहा ।

jinhaan bhaau tin naeh bhau much bhau agai nibhaviaahaa |

They are not scared of anybody, who have cherished the love of the Lord; and those who are devoid of the fear of Lord, remain scared in the court of Lord.


ਅਗਿ ਤਤੀ ਜਲ ਸੀਅਲਾ ਨਿਵ ਚਲੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਕਰੈ ਉਤਾਹਾ ।

अगि तती जल सीअला निव चलै सिरु करै उताहा ।

ag tatee jal seealaa niv chalai sir karai utaahaa |

The fire is hot and keeps its head high, but the water is cold and flows downwards.


ਭਰਿ ਡੁਬੈ ਖਾਲੀ ਤਰੈ ਵਜਿ ਨ ਵਜੈ ਘੜੈ ਜਿਵਾਹਾ ।

भरि डुबै खाली तरै वजि न वजै घड़ै जिवाहा ।

bhar ddubai khaalee tarai vaj na vajai gharrai jivaahaa |

The filled-up pitcher drowns and makes no sound and the empty one not only goes on swimming, it rather makes the noise also (likewise is the egotist and the egoless one, the latter absorbing in loving devotion gets liberated and the former goes on tossing)


ਅੰਬ ਸੁਫਲ ਫਲਿ ਝੁਕਿ ਲਹੈ ਦੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਅਰੰਡੁ ਨ ਨਿਵੈ ਤਲਾਹਾ ।

अंब सुफल फलि झुकि लहै दुख फलु अरंडु न निवै तलाहा ।

anb sufal fal jhuk lahai dukh fal arandd na nivai talaahaa |

Being full of fruits, the mango tree bends down in humility, but the castor tree, being full of bitter fruits, never bows in humility.


ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਜਾਇ ਫਲ ਖਾਹਾ ।

मनु पंखेरू धावदा संगि सुभाइ जाइ फल खाहा ।

man pankheroo dhaavadaa sang subhaae jaae fal khaahaa |

The mind-bird keeps flying and according to its nature, picks up the fruits.


ਧਰਿ ਤਾਰਾਜੂ ਤੋਲੀਐ ਹਉਲਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਤੋਲੁ ਤੁਲਾਹਾ ।

धरि ताराजू तोलीऐ हउला भारा तोलु तुलाहा ।

dhar taaraajoo toleeai haulaa bhaaraa tol tulaahaa |

On the scale of justice, the light and the heavy are weighed (and good and bad are differentiated).


ਜਿਣਿ ਹਾਰੈ ਹਾਰੈ ਜਿਣੈ ਪੈਰਾ ਉਤੇ ਸੀਸੁ ਧਰਾਹਾ ।

जिणि हारै हारै जिणै पैरा उते सीसु धराहा ।

jin haarai haarai jinai pairaa ute sees dharaahaa |

He, who looks to be winning here, loses in the court of the Lord; and likewise the loser here wins there. All bow at his feet.


ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈ ਜਗ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਾ ।੯।

पैरी पै जग पैरी पाहा ।९।

The individual falls at the feet (of Guru) and then the whole world falls at his feet.

सचु हुकमु सचु लेखु है सचु कारणु करि खेलु रचाइआ ।

sach hukam sach lekh hai sach kaaran kar khel rachaaeaa |

The order of the Lord is true, His writ is true and from the true cause, He has created the creation as His sport.


ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਦਾ ਓਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਾਇਆ ।

कारणु करते वसि है विरलै दा ओहु करै कराइआ ।

kaaran karate vas hai viralai daa ohu karai karaaeaa |

All the causes are under the control of the creator, but He accepts the deeds of any rare devotee.


ਸੋ ਕਿਹੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਮੰਗਈ ਖਸਮੈ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ।

सो किहु होरु न मंगई खसमै दा भाणा तिसु भाइआ ।

so kihu hor na mangee khasamai daa bhaanaa tis bhaaeaa |

The devotee who has loved the will of the Lord, does not beg anything from anyone else.


ਖਸਮੈ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਵਦਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹੁਇ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਦਾਇਆ ।

खसमै एवै भावदा भगति वछलु हुइ बिरदु सदाइआ ।

khasamai evai bhaavadaa bhagat vachhal hue birad sadaaeaa |

The Lord also loves to accept the prayer of the devotee, because protection of the devotee is His nature.


ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਿਵ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ।

साधसंगति गुर सबदु लिव कारणु करता करदा आइआ ।

saadhasangat gur sabad liv kaaran karataa karadaa aaeaa |

The devotees, who keep their consciousness absorbed in the Word in the holy congregation, know well that the creator Lord is the perennial cause of all causes.


ਬਾਲ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਅਤੀਤ ਜਗਿ ਵਰ ਸਰਾਪ ਦਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ।

बाल सुभाइ अतीत जगि वर सराप दा भरमु चुकाइआ ।

baal subhaae ateet jag var saraap daa bharam chukaaeaa |

The devotee, like the innocent child, remains detached from the world and keeps himself free from delusions of boons and curses.


ਜੇਹਾ ਭਾਉ ਤੇਹੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ।੧੦।

जेहा भाउ तेहो फलु पाइआ ।१०।

He receives the fruit in accordance with his faith.

ਅਉਗੁਣ ਕੀਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਰੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਤਰੋਵਰ ਹੰਦਾ ।

अउगुण कीते गुण करै सहजि सुभाउ तरोवर हंदा ।

aaugun keete gun karai sehaj subhaau tarovar handaa |

The tree, being in equipoise, does good even to the evil doer.


ਵਢਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਛਾਉ ਬਹਿ ਚੰਗੇ ਦਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਚਿਤਵੰਦਾ ।

वढण वाला छाउ बहि चंगे दा मंदा चितवंदा ।

vadtan vaalaa chhaau beh change daa mandaa chitavandaa |

The tree cutter sits under the shade of the same and thinks evil of that benevolent one.


ਫਲ ਦੇ ਵਟ ਵਗਾਇਆਂ ਵਢਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤਾਰਿ ਤਰੰਦਾ ।

फल दे वट वगाइआं वढण वाले तारि तरंदा ।

fal de vatt vagaaeaan vadtan vaale taar tarandaa |

It gives fruits to the stone throwers and boat to the cutters to get them across.


ਬੇਮੁਖ ਫਲ ਨਾ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਫਲ ਅਣਗਣਤ ਫਲੰਦਾ ।

बेमुख फल ना पाइदे सेवक फल अणगणत फलंदा ।

bemukh fal naa paaeide sevak fal anaganat falandaa |

The individuals, opposed to the Guru, do not get fruit; and the servants receive infinite reward.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੰਦਾ ।

गुरमुखि विरला जाणीऐ सेवकु सेवक सेवक संदा ।

guramukh viralaa jaaneeai sevak sevak sevak sandaa |

Any rare gurmukh is known in this world, who serves the servants of the Lord's servants.


ਜਗੁ ਜੋਹਾਰੇ ਚੰਦ ਨੋ ਸਾਇਰ ਲਹਰਿ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਵਧੰਦਾ ।

जगु जोहारे चंद नो साइर लहरि अनंदु वधंदा ।

jag johaare chand no saaeir lehar anand vadhandaa |

The moon is saluted by all, and the ocean also becoming glad, throws its waves towards it.


ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਗੁ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਬੰਦਾ ।੧੧।

जो तेरा जगु तिस दा बंदा ।११।

jo teraa jag tis daa bandaa |11|

0 Lord! the whole world becomes his, who is yours own.

जिउ विसमादु कमादु है सिर तलवाइआ होइ उपंना ।

jiau visamaad kamaad hai sir talavaaeaa hoe upanaa |

Nature of sugarcane is wondrous: it takes birth head down.


ਪਹਿਲੇ ਖਲ ਉਖਲਿ ਕੈ ਟੋਟੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਭੰਨਣਿ ਭੰਨਾ ।

पहिले खल उखलि कै टोटे करि करि भंनणि भंना ।

pahile khal ukhal kai ttotte kar kar bhanan bhanaa |

First, its skin is peeled off and it is cut into pieces.


ਕੋਲੂ ਪਾਇ ਪੀੜਾਇਆ ਰਸ ਟਟਰਿ ਕਸ ਇੰਨਣ ਵੰਨਾ ।

कोलू पाइ पीड़ाइआ रस टटरि कस इंनण वंना ।

koloo paae peerraaeaa ras ttattar kas inan vanaa |

Then it is crushed in cane crusher; it's nice is boiled in a cauldron and the bagasse is burnt as fuel.


ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਬਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਖਾਏ ਅਵਟਣੁ ਜਗ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨਾ ।

दुख सुख अंदरि सबरु करि खाए अवटणु जग धंन धंना ।

dukh sukh andar sabar kar khaae avattan jag dhan dhanaa |

It remains contented in joys and sufferings alike and after getting boiled is called best in the world.


ਗੁੜੁ ਸਕਰੁ ਖੰਡੁ ਮਿਸਰੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਸਭ ਰਸ ਬੰਨਾ ।

गुड़ु सकरु खंडु मिसरी गुरमुख सुख फलु सभ रस बंना ।

gurr sakar khandd misaree guramukh sukh fal sabh ras banaa |

Attaining the pleasure fruit, like gurmukh, it becomes the base of jaggery, sugar and crystal sugar.


ਪਿਰਮ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਪੀਵਣਾ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਥੀਵਣੁ ਗੰਨਾ ।

पिरम पिआला पीवणा मरि मरि जीवणु थीवणु गंना ।

piram piaalaa peevanaa mar mar jeevan theevan ganaa |

Death after quaffing the cup of love is similar to the life of sugarcane which after getting crushed becomes live.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲ ਅਮੋਲ ਰਤੰਨਾ ।੧੨।

gur dareeaau amaau hai lakh dareeaau samaau karandaa |

Guru is such an immeasurable ocean, that lakhs of rivers are absorbed in it.


ਇਕਸ ਇਕਸ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਵਿਚਿ ਲਖ ਤੀਰਥ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਵਹੰਦਾ ।

इकस इकस दरीआउ विचि लख तीरथ दरीआउ वहंदा ।

eikas ikas dareeaau vich lakh teerath dareeaau vahandaa |

Lakhs of pilgrimage centers are there on each river.


ਇਕਤੁ ਇਕਤੁ ਵਾਹੜੈ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਲਖ ਤਰੰਗ ਉਠੰਦਾ ।

इकतु इकतु वाहड़ै कुदरति लख तरंग उठंदा ।

eikat ikat vaaharrai kudarat lakh tarang utthandaa |

And in each stream, lakhs of waves are raised by nature.


ਸਾਇਰ ਸਣੁ ਰਤਨਾਵਲੀ ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੀਨ ਤਰੰਦਾ ।

साइर सणु रतनावली चारि पदारथु मीन तरंदा ।

saaeir san ratanaavalee chaar padaarath meen tarandaa |

In that Guru-ocean, myriad jewels and all the four ideals (dharma, arth, kaam and moksha) moves around in the form of fish.


ਇਕਤੁ ਲਹਿਰ ਨ ਪੁਜਨੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਅੰਤ ਲਹੰਦਾ ।

इकतु लहिर न पुजनी कुदरति अंतु न अंत लहंदा ।

eikat lahir na pujanee kudarat ant na ant lahandaa |

All these things are not equal even to one wave (one sentence) of the Guru-ocean. The mystery of the extent of His power is unknowable.


ਪਿਰਮ ਪਿਆਲੇ ਇਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੰਦਾ ।

पिरम पिआले इक बूंद गुरमुख विरला अजरु जरंदा ।

piram piaale ik boond guramukh viralaa ajar jarandaa |

The unbearable drop of the cup of love can be cherished by any rare gurmukh.


ਅਲਖ ਲਖਾਇ ਨ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖੰਦਾ ।੧੩।

अलख लखाइ न अलखु लखंदा ।१३।

alakh lakhaae na alakh lakhandaa |13|

The Guru himself sees that imperceptible Lord, who is not visible to others.

Many Brahmas reciting Vedas and many Indras ruling the kingdoms, got tired.


ਮਹਾਂਦੇਵ ਅਵਧੂਤ ਹੋਇ ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਭਵੰਦੇ ।

महांदेव अवधूत होइ दस अवतारी बिसनु भवंदे ।

mahaandev avadhoot hoe das avataaree bisan bhavande |

Mahadev becoming recluse and Visnu assuming ten incarnations, roamed hither and thither.


ਸਿਧ ਨਾਥ ਜੋਗੀਸਰਾਂ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵ ਨ ਭੇਵ ਲਹੰਦੇ ।

सिध नाथ जोगीसरां देवी देव न भेव लहंदे ।

sidh naath jogeesaraan devee dev na bhev lahande |

Siddhs, naths, chiefs of the yogis, gods and goddesses, could not know the mystery of that Lord.


ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸੁਰ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਦੇਹ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੰਦੇ ।

तपे तपीसुर तीरथां जती सती देह दुख सहंदे ।

tape tapeesur teerathaan jatee satee deh dukh sahande |

Ascetics, the people going to pilgrimage centers, celibates and numerous satis, in order to know Him, suffer through their bodies.


ਸੇਖਨਾਗ ਸਭ ਰਾਗ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਤਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੰਦੇ ।

सेखनाग सभ राग मिलि सिमरणु करि निति गुण गावंदे ।

sekhanaag sabh raag mil simaran kar nit gun gaavande |

Sesanag, along with all musical measures, remembers and praises Him.


ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਜਗਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲੰਦੇ ।

वडभागी गुरसिख जगि सबदु सुरति सतसंगि मिलंदे ।

vaddabhaagee gurasikh jag sabad surat satasang milande |

In this world, gurmukhs are fortunate, who merging their consciousness in the Word, gather in the holy congregation.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖੰਦੇ ।੧੪।

गुरमुखि सुख फलु अलखु लखंदे ।१४।

guramukh sukh fal alakh lakhande |14|

Gurmukhs, become face to face with that imperceptible Lord, and attain the fruit of delight.

ਸਿਰ ਤਲਵਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਸ ਫਲ ਸੁਫਲ ਫਲੰਦਾ ।

सिर तलवाइआ बिरखु है होइ सहस फल सुफल फलंदा ।

sir talavaaeaa birakh hai hoe sehas fal sufal falandaa |

The head (root) of the tree remains downwards, and there for it is laden with flowers and fruit.


ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਸਿਰੁ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਨੀਵਾਣਿ ਚਲੰਦਾ ।

निरमलु नीरु वखाणीऐ सिरु नीवां नीवाणि चलंदा ।

niramal neer vakhaaneeai sir neevaan neevaan chalandaa |

The water is known as pure because it flows downward.


ਸਿਰੁ ਉਚਾ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਚਰਣ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੈਰੀ ਸੀਸੁ ਪਵੰਦਾ ।

सिरु उचा नीवें चरण गुरमुखि पैरी सीसु पवंदा ।

sir uchaa neeven charan guramukh pairee sees pavandaa |

The head is higher and the feet lower, but even then the head bows on the feet of the gurmukh.


ਸਭ ਦੂ ਨੀਵੀ ਧਰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸੈ ਸਾਰੁ ਸਹੰਦਾ ।

सभ दू नीवी धरति होइ अनु धनु सभु सै सारु सहंदा ।

sabh doo neevee dharat hoe an dhan sabh sai saar sahandaa |

The lowest is the earth, which bears the burden of the whole world and of the wealth in it.


ਧੰਨੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਓਹੁ ਥਾਉ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਸਾਧੂ ਪੈਰੁ ਧਰੰਦਾ ।

धंनु धरती ओहु थाउ धंनु गुरु सिख साधू पैरु धरंदा ।

dhan dharatee ohu thaau dhan gur sikh saadhoo pair dharandaa |

That land and that place is blest where the Guru, the Sikh and the holy men put their feet.


ਚਰਣ ਧੂੜਿ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਵੇਦ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਿ ਸੁਣੰਦਾ ।

चरण धूड़ि परधान करि संत वेद जसु गावि सुणंदा ।

charan dhoorr paradhaan kar sant ved jas gaav sunandaa |

That the dust of the feet of the saints is the highest, is told even by the Vedas.


ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾ ਖਾਕ ਲਹੰਦਾ ।੧੫।

वडभागी पा खाक लहंदा ।१५।

vaddabhaagee paa khaak lahandaa |15|

Any fortunate one attains the dust of the feet.

pooraa satigur jaaneeai poore pooraa tthaatt banaaeaa |

The perfect true Guru is known in his majestic form.


ਪੂਰੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਤੋਲੁ ਹੈ ਘਟੈ ਨ ਵਧੈ ਘਟਾਇ ਵਧਾਇਆ ।

पूरे पूरा तोलु है घटै न वधै घटाइ वधाइआ ।

poore pooraa tol hai ghattai na vadhai ghattaae vadhaaeaa |

Perfect is the justice of the perfect Guru, to which nothing can be added nor reduced from.


ਪੂਰੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਹੋਰਸੁ ਪੁਛਿ ਨ ਮਤਾ ਪਕਾਇਆ ।

पूरे पूरी मति है होरसु पुछि न मता पकाइआ ।

poore pooree mat hai horas puchh na mataa pakaaeaa |

The wisdom of the perfect Guru is perfect, and he makes up his mind without asking for other's counsel.


ਪੂਰੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਨ ਟਲੈ ਟਲਾਇਆ ।

पूरे पूरा मंतु है पूरा बचनु न टलै टलाइआ ।

poore pooraa mant hai pooraa bachan na ttalai ttalaaeaa |

The mantra of the perfect is perfect and his command cannot be avoided.


ਸਭੇ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ।

सभे इछा पूरीआ साधसंगति मिलि पूरा पाइआ ।

sabhe ichhaa pooreea saadhasangat mil pooraa paaeaa |

All desires are fulfilled when joining the holy congregation, one meets the perfect Guru.

वीह इकीह उलंघि कै पति पउड़ी चढ़ि निज घरि आइआ ।

veeh ikeeh ulangh kai pat paurree charrh nij ghar aaeaa |

Crossing all worldly calculations, the Guru has climbed the ladder of honor to reach his own loft.

sidh saadhik mil jaagade kar sivaraatee jaatee melaa |

The siddhs and other performer of austerities, by remaining awake, celebrate the Sivaratri fair.


ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਅਉਧੂਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਵਲਾਸਣਿ ਆਸਣਿ ਰਸ ਕੇਲਾ ।

महादेउ अउधूतु है कवलासणि आसणि रस केला ।

mahaadeo aaudhoot hai kavalaasan aasan ras kelaa |

Mahadev is a recluse and Brahma is absorbed in the delight of the seat of lotus.


ਗੋਰਖੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਾਛਿੰਦ੍ਰ ਧਰੀ ਸੁ ਧਰੇਲਾ ।

गोरखु जोगी जागदा गुरि माछिंद्र धरी सु धरेला ।

gorakh jogee jaagadaa gur maachhindr dharee su dharelaa |

Gorakh, the yogi, is also awake, whose teacher Machhendr had kept a beautiful concubine.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਗਿ ਜਗਾਇਦਾ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ।

सतिगुरु जागि जगाइदा साधसंगति मिलि अंम्रित वेला ।

satigur jaag jagaaeidaa saadhasangat mil amrit velaa |

The true Guru is awake and he, in the holy congregation, in ambrosial hours, makes others also awake (from the sleep of infatuation).


ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈਅਨੁ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਪਿਰਮ ਰਸ ਖੇਲਾ ।

निज घरि ताड़ी लाईअनु अनहद सबद पिरम रस खेला ।

nij ghar taarree laaeean anahad sabad piram ras khelaa |

In the holy congregation, the people concentrate upon their self and remain absorbed in the loving delight of the unstruck word.


ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਹੈ ਅਲਖ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਨੇਹੁ ਨਵੇਲਾ ।

आदि पुरख आदेसु है अलख निरंजन नेहु नवेला ।

aad purakh aades hai alakh niranjan nehu navelaa |

I salute the primal person, the Guru, whose love and affection for the imperceptible Lord is ever fresh.


ਚੇਲੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੇ ਚੇਲਾ ।੧੭।

चेले ते गुरु गुरु ते चेला ।१७।

The devotee/disciple becomes Guru, and the Guru becomes disciple.

ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसु त्रै सैसारी भंडारी राजे ।

brahamaa bisan mahes trai saisaaree bhanddaaree raaje |

Brahma, Visnu and Mahesha, all three are creator, sustainer and dispenser of justice.


ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਘਰਬਾਰੀਆ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਾਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੁਹਤਾਜੇ ।

चारि वरन घरबारीआ जाति पाति माइआ मुहताजे ।

chaar varan gharabaareea jaat paat maaeaa muhataaje |

The house holders of all the four varnas, depend upon caste-gotra, the lineage and maya.


ਛਿਅ ਦਰਸਨ ਛਿਅ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨਿ ਦੇਵਾਜੇ ।

छिअ दरसन छिअ सासत्रा पाखंडि करम करनि देवाजे ।

chhia darasan chhia saasatraa paakhandd karam karan devaaje |

People perform hypocritical rituals pretending to follow the six philosophies of six shastras.


ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਦਸ ਨਾਮ ਧਰਿ ਜੋਗੀ ਬਾਰਹ ਪੰਥ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ।

संनिआसी दस नाम धरि जोगी बारह पंथ निवाजे ।

saniaasee das naam dhar jogee baarah panth nivaaje |

Likewise, the sannyasis assuming ten names, and yogis creating their twelve sects, are moving around.


ਦਹਦਿਸਿ ਬਾਰਹ ਵਾਟ ਹੋਇ ਪਰ ਘਰ ਮੰਗਨਿ ਖਾਜ ਅਖਾਜੇ ।

दहदिसि बारह वाट होइ पर घर मंगनि खाज अखाजे ।

dahadis baarah vaatt hoe par ghar mangan khaaj akhaaje |

They are all going astray in ten directions and twelve sects go on begging edibles and non-edibles.


ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਵਾਜੇ ।

चारि वरन गुरु सिख मिलि साधसंगति विचि अनहद वाजे ।

chaar varan gur sikh mil saadhasangat vich anahad vaaje |

The four varnas meeting the Gursikhs, recite and listen to the unstruck melody in the holy congregation.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਰਨ ਅਵਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਾਉਂ ਪੰਥ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਜੇ ।

गुरमुखि वरन अवरन होइ दरसनु नाउं पंथ सुख साजे ।

guramukh varan avaran hoe darasan naaun panth sukh saaje |

Gurmukhs, going beyond all varnas, follow the philosophy of naam and the path of spiritual delight.


ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਕੂੜਿ ਕੂੜੇ ਪਾਜੇ ।੧੮।

सचु सचा कूड़ि कूड़े पाजे ।१८।

The truth is always true, and falsehood is altogether false.

The true Guru is the store house of virtues, who out of his benevolence, blesses even the wicked ones.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਵੈਦੁ ਹੈ ਪੰਜੇ ਰੋਗ ਅਸਾਧ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ।

सतिगुरु पूरा वैदु है पंजे रोग असाध निवारे ।

satigur pooraa vaid hai panje rog asaadh nivaare |

The true Guru is a perfect physician, who cures all the five chronic ailments.


ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਰੁਦੇਉ ਹੈ ਸੁਖ ਦੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਦੁਖਿਆਰੇ ।

सुख सागरु गुरुदेउ है सुख दे मेलि लए दुखिआरे ।

sukh saagar gurudeo hai sukh de mel le dukhiaare |

Guru is ocean of pleasures, who happily absorbs in him the sufferers.


ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੋਖੀ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਤਾਰੇ ।

गुर पूरा निरवैरु है निंदक दोखी बेमुख तारे ।

gur pooraa niravair hai nindak dokhee bemukh taare |

The perfect Guru is away form enmity, and He liberates even the slanderers, envious ones and the apostates.


ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਜਮ ਡਰੈ ਉਤਾਰੇ ।

गुरु पूरा निरभउ सदा जनम मरण जम डरै उतारे ।

gur pooraa nirbhau sadaa janam maran jam ddarai utaare |

The perfect Guru is fearless, who always dispels the fear of transmigration and Yama (god of death).


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਵਡੇ ਅਜਾਣ ਮੁਗਧ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ।

सतिगुरु पुरखु सुजाणु है वडे अजाण मुगध निसतारे ।

satigur purakh sujaan hai vadde ajaan mugadh nisataare |

The true Guru is that enlightened one, who saves ignorant fools and even the unknown ones.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਗੂ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਅੰਧਲੇ ਉਧਾਰੇ ।

सतिगुरु आगू जाणीऐ बाह पकड़ि अंधले उधारे ।

satigur aagoo jaaneeai baah pakarr andhale udhaare |

The true Guru is known as such a leader, who catching hold from the arm, takes the blind also across (the world ocean).


ਮਾਣੁ ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ।੧੯।

माणु निमाणे सद बलिहारे ।१९।

The true Guru is such a philosopher's stone, by whose touch dross transforms into gold.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬਾਵਨੁ ਚੰਦਨੋ ਵਾਸੁ ਸੁਵਾਸੁ ਕਰੈ ਲਾਖੀਣਾ ।

सतिगुरु बावनु चंदनो वासु सुवासु करै लाखीणा ।

satigur baavan chandano vaas suvaas karai laakheenaa |

The true Guru is that sandalwood, which makes everything fragrant and lakhs of times more precious.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਰਿਜਾਤੁ ਸਿੰਮਲੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੀਣਾ ।

सतिगुरु पूरा पारिजातु सिंमलु सफलु करै संगि लीणा ।

satigur pooraa paarijaat sinmal safal karai sang leenaa |

The true Guru is that wish fulfilling tree (parijat), which makes the cotton silk tree full of fruit.


ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਾਗਹੁ ਹੰਸੁ ਜਲਹੁ ਦੁਧੁ ਪੀਣਾ ।

मान सरोवरु सतिगुरू कागहु हंसु जलहु दुधु पीणा ।

maan sarovar satiguroo kaagahu hans jalahu dudh peenaa |

The true Guru is that Manasarovar, which transforms crows into swans, who drink milk out of mixture of water and milk.


ਗੁਰ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਹੈ ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤ ਕਰੈ ਪਰਬੀਣਾ ।

गुर तीरथु दरीआउ है पसू परेत करै परबीणा ।

gur teerath dareeaau hai pasoo paret karai parabeenaa |

The Guru is that holy river, which makes the animals and the ghosts, knowledgeable and skillful.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਦੀਛੋੜੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਵਣ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਓਡੀਣਾ ।

सतिगुर बंदीछोड़ु है जीवण मुकति करै ओडीणा ।

satigur bandeechhorr hai jeevan mukat karai oddeenaa |

The true Guru is giver of freedom from bondages and makes the detached ones liberated in life.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨ ਅਪਤੀਜੁ ਪਤੀਣਾ ।੨੦।

गुरमुखि मन अपतीजु पतीणा ।२०।

The wavering mind of the Gurmukh (Guru-oriented individual) becomes steadfast and full of confidence.

sidh naath avataar sabh gosatt kar kar kan farraaeaa |

In discussions, he (Guru Nanak Dev) won over the siddhs, naths and the incarnations of gods.


ਬਾਬਰ ਕੇ ਬਾਬੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਸਭ ਨਬਾਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ ।

बाबर के बाबे मिले निवि निवि सभ नबाबु निवाइआ ।

baabar ke baabe mile niv niv sabh nabaab nivaaeaa |

Men of Babar and Nawabs came to Baba Nanak and bowed before him in humility.


ਪਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਜੋਗ ਭੋਗ ਛਡਿ ਚਲਿਤੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ।

पतिसाहा मिलि विछुड़े जोग भोग छडि चलितु रचाइआ ।

patisaahaa mil vichhurre jog bhog chhadd chalit rachaaeaa |

He met the emperors as well and becoming detached from the enjoyments and renunciation, he performed a wonderful feat.


ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ।

दीन दुनीआ दा पातिसाहु बेमुहताजु राजु घरि आइआ ।

deen duneea daa paatisaahu bemuhataaj raaj ghar aaeaa |

Self-reliant king of the spiritual and the temporal world, (Guru Nanak) moved around in the world.


ਕਾਦਰ ਹੋਇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਏਹ ਭਿ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸਾਂਗੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ।

कादर होइ कुदरति करे एह भि कुदरति सांगु बणाइआ ।

kaadar hoe kudarat kare eeh bhi kudarat saang banaaeaa |

The nature enacted a masquerade that he becoming creator created (a new way of life - Sikhism).


ਇਕਨਾ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਦਾ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ।

इकना जोड़ि विछोड़िदा चिरी विछुंने आणि मिलाइआ ।

eikanaa jorr vichhorridaa chiree vichhune aan milaaeaa |

He makes many meet, separates others and further reunites the ones separated long back.


ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ।੨੧।

साधसंगति विचि अलखु लखाइआ ।२१।

saadhasangat vich alakh lakhaaeaa |21|

In the holy congregation, he arranges the glimpse of the invisible Lord.

The true Guru is a perfect banker, and the three worlds are his travelling salesmen.


ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਖ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ।

रतन पदारथ बेसुमार भाउ भगति लख भरे भंडारा ।

ratan padaarath besumaar bhaau bhagat lakh bhare bhanddaaraa |

He has the treasure of infinite jewels, in the form of loving devotion.


ਪਾਰਿਜਾਤ ਲਖ ਬਾਗ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਮਧੇਣੁ ਦੇ ਵਗ ਹਜਾਰਾ ।

पारिजात लख बाग विचि कामधेणु दे वग हजारा ।

paarijaat lakh baag vich kaamadhen de vag hajaaraa |

In his garden, he keeps lakhs of wish fulfilling trees (parijat) and thousands of herds of wish fulfilling cows (kamdhenu).


ਲਖਮੀਆਂ ਲਖ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਪਾਰਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਬਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ।

लखमीआं लख गोलीआं पारस दे परबतु अपारा ।

lakhameean lakh goleean paaras de parabat apaaraa |

He has lakhs of Lakshmi as servants, and many mountains of philosopher's stones.


ਲਖ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਲਖ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਲੈ ਹੁਇ ਸਕੈ ਛਿੜਕਨਿ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ।

लख अंम्रित लख इंद्र लै हुइ सकै छिड़कनि दरबारा ।

lakh amrit lakh indr lai hue sakai chhirrakan darabaaraa |

Lakhs of Indras having lakhs of types of nectars, sprinkle in his court.


ਸੂਰਜ ਚੰਦ ਚਰਾਗ ਲਖ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਬੋਹਲ ਅੰਬਾਰਾ ।

सूरज चंद चराग लख रिधि सिधि निधि बोहल अंबारा ।

sooraj chand charaag lakh ridh sidh nidh bohal anbaaraa |

Lakhs of lamps like suns and moons are there, and the heaps of miraculous powers are also with him.


ਸਭੇ ਵੰਡ ਵੰਡਿ ਦਿਤੀਓਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ।

सभे वंड वंडि दितीओनु भाउ भगति करि सचु पिआरा ।

sabhe vandd vandd diteeon bhaau bhagat kar sach piaaraa |

The true Guru has distributed all these stores among those, who love the truth and are absorbed in loving devotion.


ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ।੨੨।

भगति वछलु सतिगुरु निरंकारा ।२२।

bhagat vachhal satigur nirankaaraa |22|

The true Guru, who himself is the Lord, loves his devotees (deeply).

ਖੀਰ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਵਿਰੋਲਿ ਕੈ ਕਢਿ ਰਤਨ ਚਉਦਹ ਵੰਡਿ ਲੀਤੇ ।

खीर समुंदु विरोलि कै कढि रतन चउदह वंडि लीते ।

kheer samund virol kai kadt ratan chaudah vandd leete |

Having churned the ocean, the fourteen jewels were taken out and were distributed (among the gods and demons).


ਮਣਿ ਲਖਮੀ ਪਾਰਿਜਾਤ ਸੰਖੁ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਧਣਖੁ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਤੇ ।

मणि लखमी पारिजात संखु सारंग धणखु बिसनु वसि कीते ।

man lakhamee paarijaat sankh saarang dhanakh bisan vas keete |

Visnu got hold of gem, Lakshmi, parijat, conch, bow named sarang.


ਕਾਮਧੇਣੁ ਤੇ ਅਪਛਰਾਂ ਐਰਾਪਤਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਿ ਸੀਤੇ ।

कामधेणु ते अपछरां ऐरापति इंद्रासणि सीते ।

kaamadhen te apachharaan airaapat indraasan seete |

Kamdhenu, nymphs, Airipat were attached to the throne of Indra i.e. they were given to him.


ਕਾਲਕੂਟ ਤੇ ਅਰਧ ਚੰਦ ਮਹਾਂਦੇਵ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਪੀਤੇ ।

कालकूट ते अरध चंद महांदेव मसतकि धरि पीते ।

kaalakoott te aradh chand mahaandev masatak dhar peete |

Mahadev drank the deadly poison and adorned crescent moon on his forehead.


ਘੋੜਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੂਰਜੈ ਮਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਰੀਤੇ ।

घोड़ा मिलिआ सूरजै मदु अंम्रितु देव दानव रीते ।

ghorraa miliaa soorajai mad amrit dev daanav reete |

Sun got the horse and the wine and amrit were emptied by the gods and demons jointly.


ਕਰੇ ਧਨੰਤਰੁ ਵੈਦਗੀ ਡਸਿਆ ਤੱਛਕਿ ਮਤਿ ਬਿਪਰੀਤੇ ।

करे धनंतरु वैदगी डसिआ तच्छकि मति बिपरीते ।

kare dhanantar vaidagee ddasiaa tachhak mat bipareete |

Dhanvantra used to practice medicine but stung by Takshaka, the snake, his wisdom got inverted.


ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਅਮੋਲਕਾ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਿਧਿ ਅਗਣੀਤੇ ।

गुर उपदेसु अमोलका रतन पदारथ निधि अगणीते ।

gur upades amolakaa ratan padaarath nidh aganeete |

In the ocean of the teachings of the Guru, exist innumerable invaluable jewels.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਸਚੁ ਪਰੀਤੇ ।੨੩।

सतिगुर सिखां सचु परीते ।२३।

ਧਰਮਸਾਲ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੀਦਾ ਇਕਤ ਥਾਉਂ ਨ ਟਿਕੈ ਟਿਕਾਇਆ ।

धरमसाल करि बहीदा इकत थाउं न टिकै टिकाइआ ।

dharamasaal kar baheedaa ikat thaaun na ttikai ttikaaeaa |

The earlier Gurus considered that to give instructions and to preach to the people, one has to sit at one place known as dharamshala, but this Guru (Hargobind) does not stick to one place.


ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਦੇ ਗੜਿ ਚੜਿਆ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਚੜਾਇਆ ।

पातिसाह घरि आवदे गड़ि चड़िआ पातिसाह चड़ाइआ ।

paatisaah ghar aavade garr charriaa paatisaah charraaeaa |

Earlier emperors would visit the house of the Guru, but this Guru has been interned by the king in a fort.


ਉਮਤਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਦੀ ਨਠਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਨ ਡਰੈ ਡਰਾਇਆ ।

उमति महलु न पावदी नठा फिरै न डरै डराइआ ।

aumat mehal na paavadee natthaa firai na ddarai ddaraaeaa |

The sangat coming to have his glimpse, cannot find him in the palace (because generally he is not available). Neither he is scared of anybody, nor does he scare anyone, yet he is always on the move.


ਮੰਜੀ ਬਹਿ ਸੰਤੋਖਦਾ ਕੁਤੇ ਰਖਿ ਸਿਕਾਰੁ ਖਿਲਾਇਆ ।

मंजी बहि संतोखदा कुते रखि सिकारु खिलाइआ ।

manjee beh santokhadaa kute rakh sikaar khilaaeaa |

Earlier Gurus sitting on the seat instructed people to be content, but this Guru rears dogs and goes out for hunting.


ਬਾਣੀ ਕਰਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਗਾਂਵਦਾ ਕਥੈ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਨ ਗਾਵਿ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ।

बाणी करि सुणि गांवदा कथै न सुणै न गावि सुणाइआ ।

baanee kar sun gaanvadaa kathai na sunai na gaav sunaaeaa |

The Gurus used to listen to Gurbani, but this Guru neither recites nor (regularly) listens to hymn-singing.


ਸੇਵਕ ਪਾਸ ਨ ਰਖੀਅਨਿ ਦੋਖੀ ਦੁਸਟ ਆਗੂ ਮੁਹਿ ਲਾਇਆ ।

सेवक पास न रखीअनि दोखी दुसट आगू मुहि लाइआ ।

sevak paas na rakheean dokhee dusatt aagoo muhi laaeaa |

He does not keep his follower servants with him and rather maintains nearness with the wicked and the envious ones (Guru had kept Painde Khan nearby).


ਸਚੁ ਨ ਲੁਕੈ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲ ਸਿਖ ਭਵਰ ਲੁਭਾਇਆ ।

सचु न लुकै लुकाइआ चरण कवल सिख भवर लुभाइआ ।

sach na lukai lukaaeaa charan kaval sikh bhavar lubhaaeaa |

But the truth is never concealed, and that is why on the lotus feet of the Guru, the mind of Sikhs hover like a greedy black bee.


ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ਨ ਆਪੁ ਜਣਾਇਆ ।੨੪।

अजरु जरै न आपु जणाइआ ।२४।

ajar jarai na aap janaaeaa |24|

Guru (Hargobind) has borne the unbearable and he has not made himself manifest.

ਖੇਤੀ ਵਾੜਿ ਸੁ ਢਿੰਗਰੀ ਕਿਕਰ ਆਸ ਪਾਸ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਗੈ ।

खेती वाड़ि सु ढिंगरी किकर आस पास जिउ बागै ।

khetee vaarr su dtingaree kikar aas paas jiau baagai |

Around the agricultural field, the bushes are kept as fence and around the garden acacia trees (for its safety) are planted.


ਸਪ ਪਲੇਟੇ ਚੰਨਣੈ ਬੂਹੇ ਜੰਦਾ ਕੁਤਾ ਜਾਗੈ ।

सप पलेटे चंनणै बूहे जंदा कुता जागै ।

sap palette chananai boohe jandaa kutaa jaagai |

The sandalwood tree is surrounded by snakes, and the lock is used for the safety of treasure and the dog also remains awake.


ਕਵਲੈ ਕੰਡੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਨਿ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਇਕੁ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਫਾਗੈ ।

कवलै कंडे जाणीअनि सिआणा इकु कोई विचि फागै ।

kavalai kandde jaaneean siaanaa ik koee vich faagai |

Thorns are known to live near flowers, and during the frivolity, among the turbulent crowd, one or two wise men also remain present.


ਜਿਉ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਥਰਾਂ ਮਣਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਜਿਉ ਕਾਲੈ ਨਾਗੈ ।

जिउ पारसु विचि पथरां मणि मसतकि जिउ कालै नागै ।

jiau paaras vich patharaan man masatak jiau kaalai naagai |

As the jewel remains in the head of black cobra, the philosopher's stone remains surrounded by stones.


ਰਤਨੁ ਸੋਹੈ ਗਲਿ ਪੋਤ ਵਿਚਿ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਬਧਾ ਕਚੈ ਧਾਗੈ ।

रतनु सोहै गलि पोत विचि मैगलु बधा कचै धागै ।

ratan sohai gal pot vich maigal badhaa kachai dhaagai |

In the garland of jewels, on both the side of a jewel, glass is kept to protect it; and the elephant remains tied with the thread of love.


ਭਾਵ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੁਖ ਜਾਇ ਘਰਿ ਬਿਦਰੁ ਖਵਾਲੈ ਪਿੰਨੀ ਸਾਗੈ ।

भाव भगति भुख जाइ घरि बिदरु खवालै पिंनी सागै ।

bhaav bhagat bhukh jaae ghar bidar khavaalai pinee saagai |

(Lord Krishna) for his love for the devotees, goes to Vidur's home when hungry, and the latter offers him beans of saag, a green leafy vegetable.


ਚਰਣ ਕਵਲ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਭਉਰ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਹਲੰਗੁ ਸਭਾਗੈ ।

चरण कवल गुरु सिख भउर साधसंगति सहलंगु सभागै ।

charan kaval gur sikh bhaur saadhasangat sehalang sabhaagai |

The Sikh of the Guru becoming black bee of the lotus feet of the Guru, ought to attain good fortune in the holy congregation.

परम पिआले दुतरु झागै ।२५।

He should further know that cup of the love of the Lord is got after very hard.

भवजल अंदरि मानसरु सत समुंदी गहिर गंभीरा ।

bhavajal andar maanasar sat samundee gahir ganbheeraa |

Deeper than the seven seas of the world, is the mental world ocean known as Manasarovar.


ਨਾ ਪਤਣੁ ਨਾ ਪਾਤਣੀ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਚੀਰਾ ।

ना पतणु ना पातणी पारावारु न अंतु न चीरा ।

naa patan naa paatanee paaraavaar na ant na cheeraa |

Which has no wharf, no boatman and no end or bound.


ਨਾ ਬੇੜੀ ਨਾ ਤੁਲਹੜਾ ਵੰਝੀ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਧੀਰਕ ਧੀਰਾ ।

ना बेड़ी ना तुलहड़ा वंझी हाथि न धीरक धीरा ।

naa berree naa tulaharraa vanjhee haath na dheerak dheeraa |

To go across it, there is neither vessel nor raft; neither barge pole nor anyone to console.


ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਅਪੜੈ ਹੰਸ ਚੁਗੰਦੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੀਰਾ ।

होरु न कोई अपड़ै हंस चुगंदे मोती हीरा ।

hor na koee aparrai hans chugande motee heeraa |

No one else can reach there, except the swans, who pick up pearls from there.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਂਗਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਫੇਰਿ ਅਹੀਰਾ ।

सतिगुरु सांगि वरतदा पिंडु वसाइआ फेरि अहीरा ।

satigur saang varatadaa pindd vasaaeaa fer aheeraa |

The true Guru enacts his play and populates desolate places.


ਚੰਦੁ ਅਮਾਵਸ ਰਾਤਿ ਜਿਉ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਨੀਰਾ ।

चंदु अमावस राति जिउ अलखु न लखीऐ मछुली नीरा ।

chand amaavas raat jiau alakh na lakheeai machhulee neeraa |

Sometimes, He hides himself like moon in amavas (no moon night) or fish in water.


ਮੁਏ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਗੋਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰਾ ।੨੬।

मुए मुरीद गोरि गुर पीरा ।२६।

mue mureed gor gur peeraa |26|

Those who have become dead to their ego, they only absorb in the eternal trance in the form of the Guru.

मछी दे परवार वांगि जीवणि मरणि न विसरै पाणी ।

machhee de paravaar vaang jeevan maran na visarai paanee |

Gursikh is like the family of fish, who whether dead or alive never forgets water.


ਜਿਉ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ਪਤੰਗ ਦਾ ਦੀਪਕ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਹੋਰ ਸੁ ਜਾਣੀ ।

जिउ परवारु पतंग दा दीपक बाझु न होर सु जाणी ।

jiau paravaar patang daa deepak baajh na hor su jaanee |

Similarly, to the moth family, nothing but the flame of lamp is visible.


ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਕਵਲੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਹੈ ਭਵਰ ਕਵਲ ਕੁਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ।

जिउ जल कवलु पिआरु है भवर कवल कुल प्रीति वखाणी ।

jiau jal kaval piaar hai bhavar kaval kul preet vakhaanee |

As the water and the lotus love each other, and the tales are told of the love between the black bee and the lotus.


ਬੂੰਦ ਬਬੀਹੇ ਮਿਰਗ ਨਾਦ ਕੋਇਲ ਜਿਉ ਫਲ ਅੰਬਿ ਲੁਭਾਣੀ ।

बूंद बबीहे मिरग नाद कोइल जिउ फल अंबि लुभाणी ।

boond babeehe mirag naad koeil jiau fal anb lubhaanee |

As the rainbird with the raindrop of svati nakstr, deer with music and the nightingale with mango fruit is attached.


ਮਾਨ ਸਰੋਵਰੁ ਹੰਸੁਲਾ ਓਹੁ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਰਤਨਾ ਖਾਣੀ ।

मान सरोवरु हंसुला ओहु अमोलक रतना खाणी ।

maan sarovar hansulaa ohu amolak ratanaa khaanee |

For swans, the Manasarovar is the mine of jewels.


ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਹੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਚੰਦ ਚਕੋਰੈ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ।

चकवी सूरज हेतु है चंद चकोरै चोज विडाणी ।

chakavee sooraj het hai chand chakorai choj viddaanee |

Female reddy sheldrake (chakvi) loves the sun. Indian red legged partidge's (chakor's) love with moon is praised.


ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਵੰਸੀ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਰੋਵਰੁ ਜਾਣੀ ।

गुरसिख वंसी परम हंस सतिगुर सहजि सरोवरु जाणी ।

gurasikh vansee param hans satigur sehaj sarovar jaanee |

Likewise, the Sikh of the Guru, being the progeny of the swan of highest order (paramhans), accepts the true Guru as the tank of equipoise.


ਮੁਰਗਾਈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ।੨੭।

मुरगाई नीसाणु नीसाणी ।२७।

muragaaee neesaan neesaanee |27|

And like a waterfowl goes to face the world ocean (and goes across unwet).

ਕਛੂ ਅੰਡਾ ਸੇਂਵਦਾ ਜਲ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਧਰਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰੰਦਾ ।

कछू अंडा सेंवदा जल बाहरि धरि धिआनु धरंदा ।

kachhoo anddaa senvadaa jal baahar dhar dhiaan dharandaa |

Tortoise hatches its eggs outside water and keeping track (mindful) of those eggs, rears them up.


ਕੂੰਜ ਕਰੇਂਦੀ ਸਿਮਰਣੋ ਪੂਰਣ ਬਚਾ ਹੋਇ ਉਡੰਦਾ ।

कूंज करेंदी सिमरणो पूरण बचा होइ उडंदा ।

koonj karendee simarano pooran bachaa hoe uddandaa |

By virtue of the mother's remembrance, the children of the heron bird, starts flying in the sky.


ਕੁਕੜੀ ਬਚਾ ਪਾਲਦੀ ਮੁਰਗਾਈ ਨੋ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੰਦਾ ।

कुकड़ी बचा पालदी मुरगाई नो जाइ मिलंदा ।

kukarree bachaa paaladee muragaaee no jaae milandaa |

The children of waterfowl are reared up by hen, but ultimately it goes to meet its mother (waterfowl).


ਕੋਇਲ ਪਾਲੈ ਕਾਵਣੀ ਲੋਹੂ ਲੋਹੂ ਰਲੈ ਰਲੰਦਾ ।

कोइल पालै कावणी लोहू लोहू रलै रलंदा ।

koeil paalai kaavanee lohoo lohoo ralai ralandaa |

The offspring of nightingale are nurtured by female crow, but finally the blood goes to meet the blood.


ਚਕਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਚਕੋਰ ਕੁਲ ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੇਲੁ ਕਰੰਦਾ ।

चकवी अते चकोर कुल सिव सकती मिलि मेलु करंदा ।

chakavee ate chakor kul siv sakatee mil mel karandaa |

Moving around in the illusions of Siva and Sakti (maya), the female ruddy sheldrake (chakvi) and Indian red legged partridge (chakor) also ultimately meet their beloved ones.


ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਸੇ ਜਾਣੀਅਨਿ ਛਿਅ ਰੁਤਿ ਬਾਰਹ ਮਾਹ ਦਿਸੰਦਾ ।

चंद सूरजु से जाणीअनि छिअ रुति बारह माह दिसंदा ।

chand sooraj se jaaneean chhia rut baarah maah disandaa |

Among the stars, the sun and the moon are perceptible throughout the six seasons and the twelve months.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਸਚ ਦਾ ਕਵੀਆਂ ਕਵਲ ਭਵਰੁ ਵਿਗਸੰਦਾ ।

गुरमुखि मेला सच दा कवीआं कवल भवरु विगसंदा ।

guramukh melaa sach daa kaveean kaval bhavar vigasandaa |

As the black bee is happy among lilies and lotuses, the gurmukhs get delighted to perceive the truth.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖੰਦਾ ।੨੮।

गुरमुखि सुख फलु अलखु लखंदा ।२८।

guramukh sukh fal alakh lakhandaa |28|

The gurmukhs attain the pleasure fruit and visualize the imperceptible Lord God.

ਪਾਰਸਵੰਸੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਸਭਨਾ ਧਾਤੂ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲੰਦਾ ।

पारसवंसी होइ कै सभना धातू मेलि मिलंदा ।

paarasavansee hoe kai sabhanaa dhaatoo mel milandaa |

Being of a noble family, the philosopher's stone meets all the metals (and makes them gold).


ਚੰਦਨ ਵਾਸੁ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਹੈ ਅਫਲ ਸਫਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਧਰੰਦਾ ।

चंदन वासु सुभाउ है अफल सफल विचि वासु धरंदा ।

chandan vaas subhaau hai afal safal vich vaas dharandaa |

The nature of the sandal is fragrant, and it makes all fruitless as well as fruitful trees fragrant.


ਲਖ ਤਰੰਗੀ ਗੰਗ ਹੋਇ ਨਦੀਆ ਨਾਲੇ ਗੰਗ ਹੋਵੰਦਾ ।

लख तरंगी गंग होइ नदीआ नाले गंग होवंदा ।

lakh tarangee gang hoe nadeea naale gang hovandaa |

The Ganges is formed of many tributaries, but meeting the Ganges, they all become Ganges.


ਦਾਵਾ ਦੁਧੁ ਪੀਆਲਿਆ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਕੋਕਾ ਭਾਵੰਦਾ ।

दावा दुधु पीआलिआ पातिसाहा कोका भावंदा ।

daavaa dudh peeaaliaa paatisaahaa kokaa bhaavandaa |

Koka's claim of having served as the milk giver to the king, is liked by the king.


ਲੂਣ ਖਾਇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਦਾ ਕੋਕਾ ਚਾਕਰ ਹੋਇ ਵਲੰਦਾ ।

लूण खाइ पातिसाह दा कोका चाकर होइ वलंदा ।

loon khaae paatisaah daa kokaa chaakar hoe valandaa |

Koka having eaten the salt of the royal household, hovers around the king to serve him.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵੰਸੀ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਹੰਸ ਵੰਸੁ ਨਿਬਹੰਦਾ ।

सतिगुर वंसी परम हंसु गुरु सिख हंस वंसु निबहंदा ।

satigur vansee param hans gur sikh hans vans nibahandaa |

The true Guru is of the lineage of the swans of highest order and the Sikhs of the Guru also abide by the tradition of the swan family.


ਪਿਅ ਦਾਦੇ ਦੇ ਰਾਹਿ ਚਲੰਦਾ ।੨੯।

पिअ दादे दे राहि चलंदा ।२९।

pia daade de raeh chalandaa |29|

Both follow the path shown by their forefathers.

ਜਿਉ ਲਖ ਤਾਰੇ ਚਮਕਦੇ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਦਿਸੈ ਰਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਰੇ ।

जिउ लख तारे चमकदे नेड़ि न दिसै राति अनेरे ।

jiau lakh taare chamakade nerr na disai raat anere |

Despite lakhs of stars shine in the sky in the darkness of night, yet things are not visible even if they are kept nearby.


ਸੂਰਜੁ ਬਦਲ ਛਾਇਆ ਰਾਤਿ ਨ ਪੁਜੈ ਦਿਹਸੈ ਫੇਰੇ ।

सूरजु बदल छाइआ राति न पुजै दिहसै फेरे ।

sooraj badal chhaaeaa raat na pujai dihasai fere |

On the other hand, even coming of the sun under the clouds, their shadow cannot change day into night.


ਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਂਗਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਕੇਰੇ ।

जे गुर सांगि वरतदा दुबिधा चिति न सिखां केरे ।

je gur saang varatadaa dubidhaa chit na sikhaan kere |

Even if the Guru enacts any sham, the doubts are not created in the mind of the Sikhs.


ਛਿਅ ਰੁਤੀ ਇਕੁ ਸੁਝੁ ਹੈ ਘੁਘੂ ਸੁਝ ਨ ਸੁਝੈ ਹੇਰੇ ।

छिअ रुती इकु सुझु है घुघू सुझ न सुझै हेरे ।

chhia rutee ik sujh hai ghughoo sujh na sujhai here |

In all the six seasons, the same sun remains in the sky, but the owl cannot see it.


ਚੰਦਰਮੁਖੀ ਸੂਰਜਮੁਖੀ ਕਵਲੈ ਭਵਰ ਮਿਲਨਿ ਚਉਫੇਰੇ ।

चंदरमुखी सूरजमुखी कवलै भवर मिलनि चउफेरे ।

chandaramukhee soorajamukhee kavalai bhavar milan chaufere |

But lotus blossoms in the sunlight as well as in the moonlit night, and the black bee starts hovering around it (because they love lotus and not the sun or the moon).


ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਨੋ ਲੰਘਿ ਕੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲਨਿ ਸਵੇਰੇ ।

सिव सकती नो लंघि कै साधसंगति जाइ मिलनि सवेरे ।

siv sakatee no langh kai saadhasangat jaae milan savere |

Despite the illusive phenomena created by maya (i.e. Siva and Sakti), the Sikhs of the Guru come to join the holy congregation in the ambrosial hours (early morning).


ਪੈਰੀ ਪਵਣਾ ਭਲੇ ਭਲੇਰੇ ।੩੦।

पैरी पवणा भले भलेरे ।३०।

Reaching there, they touch the feet of one and all, good and the better one.

दुनीआवा पातिसाहु होइ देइ मरै पुतै पातिसाही ।

duneeaavaa paatisaahu hoe dee marai putai paatisaahee |

The temporal king dies, after handing over the kingdom to his son.


ਦੋਹੀ ਫੇਰੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਸਭ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ।

दोही फेरै आपणी हुकमी बंदे सभ सिपाही ।

dohee ferai aapanee hukamee bande sabh sipaahee |

He establishes his sway over the world, and all his soldiers obey him.


ਕੁਤਬਾ ਜਾਇ ਪੜਾਇਦਾ ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਕਰੈ ਉਗਾਹੀ ।

कुतबा जाइ पड़ाइदा काजी मुलां करै उगाही ।

kutabaa jaae parraaeidaa kaajee mulaan karai ugaahee |

In the mosque, he orders prayers to be said in his name, and gaffs and the mullahs (spiritual persons in Islam) testify for him.


ਟਕਸਾਲੈ ਸਿਕਾ ਪਵੈ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਪੇਦੀ ਸਿਆਹੀ ।

टकसालै सिका पवै हुकमै विचि सुपेदी सिआही ।

ttakasaalai sikaa pavai hukamai vich supedee siaahee |

From the mint, comes out the coin in his name and every right and wrong is committed at his order.


ਮਾਲੁ ਮੁਲਕੁ ਅਪਣਾਇਦਾ ਤਖਤ ਬਖਤ ਚੜ੍ਹਿ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੀ ।

मालु मुलकु अपणाइदा तखत बखत चढ़ि बेपरवाही ।

maal mulak apanaaeidaa takhat bakhat charrh beparavaahee |

He controls the property and wealth of the country, and sits on the throne, caring for none.


ਬਾਬਾਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਚਾਲ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਡੀ ਰਾਹੁ ਨਿਬਾਹੀ ।

बाबाणै घरि चाल है गुरमुखि गाडी राहु निबाही ।

baabaanai ghar chaal hai guramukh gaaddee raahu nibaahee |

(However) The tradition of the House of the Guru is that the highway shown by earlier Gurus is followed.


ਇਕ ਦੋਹੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਇਕ ਕੁਤਬਾ ਤਖਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਦਰਗਾਹੀ ।

इक दोही टकसाल इक कुतबा तखतु सचा दरगाही ।

eik dohee ttakasaal ik kutabaa takhat sachaa daragaahee |

In this tradition, only the one primal Lord is applauded; the mint (holy congregation) is one here; The sermon is one and the true throne (the spiritual seat) is also one here.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਦਾਦਿ ਇਲਾਹੀ ।੩੧।

गुरमुखि सुख फलु दादि इलाही ।३१।

guramukh sukh fal daad ilaahee |31|

Justice of the Lord is such that this fruit of pleasure is given to the gurmukhs by the supreme Lord.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਇ ਕੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਕੀ ਹੋਵੈ ।

जे को आपु गणाइ कै पातिसाहां ते आकी होवै ।

je ko aap ganaae kai paatisaahaan te aakee hovai |

If someone, in his pride, stands opposed to the king, he is killed.


ਹੁਇ ਕਤਲਾਮੁ ਹਰਮਾਖੋਰੁ ਕਾਠੁ ਨ ਖਫਣੁ ਚਿਤਾ ਨ ਟੋਵੈ ।

हुइ कतलामु हरमाखोरु काठु न खफणु चिता न टोवै ।

hue katalaam haramaakhor kaatth na khafan chitaa na ttovai |

And considering him a bastard pyre, coffin or grave are not available to him.


ਟਕਸਾਲਹੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਘੜੈ ਖੋਟੈਹਾਰਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਿਗੋਵੈ ।

टकसालहु बाहरि घड़ै खोटैहारा जनमु विगोवै ।

ttakasaalahu baahar gharrai khottaihaaraa janam vigovai |

Outside the mint, one who is coining fake coins, is losing his life in vain (because when he is caught, he will be punished).


ਲਿਬਾਸੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਣੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਨੁਕਸਾਨੀ ਅੰਝੂ ਰੋਵੈ ।

लिबासी फुरमाणु लिखि होइ नुकसानी अंझू रोवै ।

libaasee furamaan likh hoe nukasaanee anjhoo rovai |

Giver of the false commands, also weeps tearfully when caught.


ਗਿਦੜ ਦੀ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੀ ਬੋਲਿ ਕੁਬੋਲੁ ਨ ਅਬਿਚਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ।

गिदड़ दी करि साहिबी बोलि कुबोलु न अबिचलु होवै ।

gidarr dee kar saahibee bol kubol na abichal hovai |

A jackal, pretending to be a lion, may pose to be a commander, but cannot hide his true howl (and is caught).


ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਗਦਹਿ ਚੜ੍ਹੈ ਰਾਉ ਪੜੇ ਵੀ ਭਰਿਆ ਧੋਵੈ ।

मुहि कालै गदहि चढ़ै राउ पड़े वी भरिआ धोवै ।

muhi kaalai gadeh charrhai raau parre vee bhariaa dhovai |

Similarly, the tier when caught, is made to mount the ass, and dust is thrown on his head. He washes himself in his tears.


ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਕੁਥਾਇ ਖਲੋਵੈ ।੩੨।

दूजै भाइ कुथाइ खलोवै ।३२।

doojai bhaae kuthaae khalovai |32|

This way, the man absorbed in the duality, reaches the wrong place.

ਬਾਲ ਜਤੀ ਹੈ ਸਿਰੀਚੰਦੁ ਬਾਬਾਣਾ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ।

बाल जती है सिरीचंदु बाबाणा देहुरा बणाइआ ।

baal jatee hai sireechand baabaanaa dehuraa banaaeaa |

Sirichand (elder son of Guru Nanak) is celibate since childhood, who has constructed the monument (in memory) of Guru Nanak.


ਲਖਮੀਦਾਸਹੁ ਧਰਮਚੰਦ ਪੋਤਾ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਇਆ ।

लखमीदासहु धरमचंद पोता हुइ कै आपु गणाइआ ।

lakhameedaasahu dharamachand potaa hue kai aap ganaaeaa |

Dharam chand, son of Laksami Das (second son of Guru Nanak), also made display of his egotism.


ਮੰਜੀ ਦਾਸੁ ਬਹਾਲਿਆ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਿਧਾਸਣ ਸਿਖਿ ਆਇਆ ।

मंजी दासु बहालिआ दाता सिधासण सिखि आइआ ।

manjee daas bahaaliaa daataa sidhaasan sikh aaeaa |

Guru Angad's one son Dasu was made to sit on the seat of Guruship and the second son Data also learnt to sit in the siddh posture i.e. both the sons of Guru Angad Dev were pretender Guru and during the time of third Guru Amar Das they tried their best.


ਮੋਹਣੁ ਕਮਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਚਉਬਾਰਾ ਮੋਹਰੀ ਮਨਾਇਆ ।

मोहणु कमला होइआ चउबारा मोहरी मनाइआ ।

mohan kamalaa hoeaa chaubaaraa moharee manaaeaa |

Mohan (son of Guru Amar Das) got afflicted and Mohart (the second son) lived in a lofty house and started getting served by the people.


ਮੀਣਾ ਹੋਆ ਪਿਰਥੀਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਤੋਢਕ ਬਰਲੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ।

मीणा होआ पिरथीआ करि करि तोढक बरलु चलाइआ ।

meenaa hoaa piratheea kar kar todtak baral chalaaeaa |

Prithichand (son of Guru Ram Das) came out as dissembling scoundrel, and using his oblique nature, spread his mental sickness all round.


ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਅਹੰਮੇਉ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੇਮੁਖੁ ਪੁਤਾਂ ਭਉਕਾਇਆ ।

महादेउ अहंमेउ करि करि बेमुखु पुतां भउकाइआ ।

mahaadeo ahameo kar kar bemukh putaan bhaukaaeaa |

Mahidev (another son of Guru Ram Das) was egotist, who was also led astray.


ਚੰਦਨ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਵਾਸ ਬੋਹਾਇਆ ।੩੩।

चंदन वासु न वास बोहाइआ ।३३।

chandan vaas na vaas bohaaeaa |33|

They all were like bamboos, who though lived near sandal – Guru, yet could not become fragrant.

ਬਾਬਾਣੀ ਪੀੜੀ ਚਲੀ ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲੇ ਪਰਚਾ ਪਰਚਾਇਆ ।

बाबाणी पीड़ी चली गुर चेले परचा परचाइआ ।

baabaanee peerree chalee gur chele parachaa parachaaeaa |

The line of Baba Nanak increased and the love between Guru and disciples further developed.


ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਗਦੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਗੁ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਚੇਲਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਭਾਇਆ ।

गुरु अंगदु गुरु अंगु ते गुरु चेला चेला गुरु भाइआ ।

gur angad gur ang te gur chelaa chelaa gur bhaaeaa |

Guru Angad came of the limb of Guru Nanak and the disciple became fond of Guru and the Guru of the disciple.


ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਗਦਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾਇਆ ।

अमरदासु गुर अंगदहु सतिगुरु ते सतिगुरू सदाइआ ।

amaradaas gur angadahu satigur te satiguroo sadaaeaa |

From Guru Angad came out Amar Das, who was accepted Guru after Guru Angad Dev.


ਗੁਰੁ ਅਮਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ।

गुरु अमरहु गुरु रामदासु गुर सेवा गुरु होइ समाइआ ।

gur amarahu gur raamadaas gur sevaa gur hoe samaaeaa |

From Guru Amar Das came Guru Ram Das, who through his service to the Guru absorbed in the Guru himself.


ਰਾਮਦਾਸਹੁ ਅਰਜਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬ੍ਰਿਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਲਾਇਆ ।

रामदासहु अरजणु गुरू अंम्रित ब्रिखि अंम्रित फलु लाइआ ।

raamadaasahu arajan guroo amrit brikh amrit fal laaeaa |

From Guru Ram Das emerged Guru Arjan Dev, as if from the ambrosial tree was produced ambrosia.


ਹਰਿਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਰਜਨਹੁ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਕਰਾਇਆ ।

हरिगोविंदु गुरु अरजनहु आदि पुरख आदेसु कराइआ ।

harigovind gur arajanahu aad purakh aades karaaeaa |

From Guru Arjan Dev was born Guru Hargobind, who also preached and spread the message of the primal Lord.


ਸੁਝੈ ਸੁਝ ਨ ਲੁਕੈ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ।੩੪।

सुझै सुझ न लुकै लुकाइआ ।३४।

sujhai sujh na lukai lukaaeaa |34|

The sun is ever perceptible; it cannot be concealed by anyone.

ਇਕ ਕਵਾਉ ਪਸਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ।

इक कवाउ पसाउ करि ओअंकारि कीआ पासारा ।

eik kavaau pasaau kar oankaar keea paasaaraa |

From one sound, the Oankar created the entire creation.


ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਅਤੁਲ ਨ ਤੋਲੀਐ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਤੋਲ ਨ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ।

कुदरति अतुल न तोलीऐ तुलि न तोल न तोलणहारा ।

kudarat atul na toleeai tul na tol na tolanahaaraa |

His sport of creation is immeasurable. None is there who can take its measure.


ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਅਲੇਖ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਾਰਾ ।

सिरि सिरि लेखु अलेख दा दाति जोति वडिआई कारा ।

sir sir lekh alekh daa daat jot vaddiaaee kaaraa |

The writ has been inscribed on the forehead of each creature; light, grandeur and action are all due to His grace.


ਲੇਖੁ ਅਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਮਸੁ ਨ ਲੇਖਣਿ ਲਿਖਣਿਹਾਰਾ ।

लेखु अलेखु न लखीऐ मसु न लेखणि लिखणिहारा ।

lekh alekh na lakheeai mas na lekhan likhanihaaraa |

His writ is imperceptible; the writer and his ink are also invisible.


ਰਾਗ ਨਾਦ ਅਨਹਦੁ ਧੁਨੀ ਓਅੰਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਗਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ।

राग नाद अनहदु धुनी ओअंकारु न गावणहारा ।

raag naad anahad dhunee oankaar na gaavanahaaraa |

Various music, tones and rhythms ate ever on but even then the Onkaar cannot be properly serenaded.


ਖਾਣੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤੁ ਨਾਵ ਥਾਵ ਅਣਗਣਤ ਅਪਾਰਾ ।

खाणी बाणी जीअ जंतु नाव थाव अणगणत अपारा ।

khaanee baanee jeea jant naav thaav anaganat apaaraa |

Mines, speeches, creatures, names and places are infinite and uncountable.


ਇਕੁ ਕਵਾਉ ਅਮਾਉ ਹੈ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਵਡਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ।

इकु कवाउ अमाउ है केवडु वडा सिरजणहारा ।

eik kavaau amaau hai kevadd vaddaa sirajanahaaraa |

His one sound is beyond all limits; how expansive that creator is, cannot be explained.


ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ।੩੫।੨੬। ਛਵੀਹ ।

साधसंगति सतिगुर निरंकारा ।३५।२६। छवीह ।

saadhasangat satigur nirankaaraa |35|26| chhaveeh |

That true Guru, formless Lord is there and available in the holy congregation.
