It is said that after churning the Unfathomable Ocean, fourteen jewels were brought out of it.

The Rambha fairy, Kamadhenu, Parijat, Uchchaisrava horse and nectar offered to gods to drink.

Airavat elephant, conch and poison were distributed jointly among the gods and the demons.

Out of the ocean, conch came out empty, which tells (even today) weeping and wailing its own story that none should remain hollow and empty.

Lotuses are of beautiful form, and they make the environment fragrant.

bhavaraan vaasaa vanjh van khojeh eko khoj lahande |

Black bees live in bamboo forest, but they somehow search and get the lotus.

lobh lubhat makarand ras door disantar aae milande |

With the sunrise, they come attracted from far and wide and meet the lotus.

With the sunrise, the lotuses of the pond also turn their faces towards the sun.

Frog lives in the nearby mire, close to the lotus but not understanding the real delight, it cannot enjoy like lotus.

On pilgrimage centers, because of the anniversary festivals, lakhs of people get together from all the four directions.

chaar varan chhia darasanaan naam daan isanaan karande |

The followers of six philosophies and the four varnas, make recitations, charities and take ablutions there.

Performing recitations, offering burnt offerings, fasts and undertaking rigorous disciplines, they listen to the recitals from the vedas.

गिआन धिआन सिमरण जुगति देवी देव सथान पूजंदे ।

giaan dhiaan simaran jugat devee dev sathaan poojande |

Knowledge, meditation, remembrance, they adopt the techniques of recitations. Worship of gods and goddesses is performed at their respective abodes - temples.

White-clad persons remain engaged in trance but like a crane as and when they get opportunity, they immediately stoop to commit crime.

saavan van hareeaavale vutthai sukai ak javaahaa |

In the month of Savan, the whole forest becomes green but akk, a wild plant of sandy region and javah (a prickly plant used in medicine) go dry.

ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਬਬੀਹੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤਿ ਬੂੰਦ ਸਿਪ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮੋਤੀ ਉਮਾਹਾ ।

त्रिपति बबीहे स्वांति बूंद सिप अंदरि मोती उमाहा ।

tripat babeehe svaant boond sip andar motee umaahaa |

Getting rain drops in the savanti nakstr (a special formation of stars in the sky), the rain bird (Papiha) gets satisfied and if the same drop falls in the mouth of a shell, it is transformed into a pearl.

ਕਦਲੀ ਵਣਹੁ ਕਪੂਰ ਹੋਇ ਕਲਰਿ ਕਵਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਸਮਾਹਾ ।

kadalee vanahu kapoor hoe kalar kaval na hoe samaahaa |

In the banana fields, the same drop becomes camphor but on alkaline earth and lotus, that drop has no impact.

ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲਕੂਟ ਹੋਇ ਧਾਤ ਸੁਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਕੁਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਦੁਰਾਹਾ ।

बिसीअर मुहि कालकूट होइ धात सुपात्र कुपात्र दुराहा ।

biseear muhi kaalakoott hoe dhaat supaatr kupaatr duraahaa |

That drop, if it goes into the mouth of a snake, becomes deadly poison. Therefore, a thing given to a genuine and undeserving person has different effects.

Likewise, those who are engrossed in the worldly delusions, do not get peace even though they listen to the word of the Guru in the holy congregation (sadhsangat).

गुरमुखि सुख फलु पिरम रसु मनमुख बदराही बदराहा ।

guramukh sukh fal piram ras manamukh badaraahee badaraahaa |

The gurmukh attains the pleasure fruit of the love of the Lord, but manmukh, the mind orientated one, goes on following the evil path.

In all the forests, vegetation is there and at all the places, there is the same earth and the same water.

This sameness notwithstanding, the fragrance, taste and color of fruits and flowers are wondrously different.

auchaa sinmal jhanttulaa nihafal cheel charrhai asamaanee |

The tall silk-cotton (simmal) tree is of big expanse and fruitless chil tree touches the sky (these both like an egotist person, are proud of their size).

jaladaa vaans vadtaaeeai vanjhuleean vajan bibaanee |

Bamboo keeps scorching, thinking of its greatness.

chandan vaas vanaasapat vaas rahai niragandh ravaanee |

Sandal makes the whole vegetation fragrant, but bamboo remains devoid of fragrance.

The sun with its bright rays, dispels darkness and scatters light all around.

ਕਿਰਤਿ ਵਿਰਤਿ ਜਗ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਬੰਧਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ।

किरति विरति जग वरतमान सभनां बंधन मुकति कराए ।

kirat virat jag varatamaan sabhanaan bandhan mukat karaae |

Seeing it, the whole world gets engaged in business. The sun alone liberates all from the bondage (of darkness).

pas pankhee miragaavalee bhaakhiaa bhaau alaau sunaae |

Animals, birds and the herds of deer, speak in their loving tongue.

ਬਾਂਗਾਂ ਬੁਰਗੂ ਸਿੰਙੀਆਂ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਦ ਨੀਸਾਣ ਵਜਾਏ ।

बांगां बुरगू सिंङीआं नाद बाद नीसाण वजाए ।

baangaan buragoo singeean naad baad neesaan vajaae |

Qazis give call (azan) for prayer, yogis blow their trumpet (sringi) and at the doors of kings, drums are beaten.

ਘੁਘੂ ਸੁਝੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਜਾਇ ਉਜਾੜੀ ਝਥਿ ਵਲਾਏ ।

ghughoo sujh na sujhee jaae ujaarree jhath valaae |

Owl does not listen to either of these, and spends its day in a desolate place.

Those who, even listening to the word of the Guru in the holy congregation, do not cultivate loving devotion in their heart, are manmukhs.

It pours the nectar of peace by which the crop, trees etc. are blest.

naar bhataar piaar kar sihajaa bhog sanjog banandaa |

Husband meets wife and prepares her for further joy.

sabhanaa raat milaavarraa chakavee chakavaa mil vichhurrandaa |

All meet in the night, but the male and the female ruddy sheldrake, go away from each other.

This way, even listening to the Guru's teachings in the holy congregation, the fake lover does not know the depth of love.

Stone does not become philosopher's stone, even after getting touched by it because the pride of family and hardness remains present in it (in fact the philosopher's stone is also but a stone).

Thrown in water, the stone, full of pride of its weight, sinks at once.

Since the inexperienced physician does not know the problem of the patient as well as the medicine for the same.

The suffering person goes suffering more and more.

aavai vaid suvaid ghar daaroo dasai rog lahandaa |

If a mature physician is found, he prescribes the right medicine, which removes the malady.

Now, if the patient does not follow the prescribed discipline and goes on to eat everything, sweet and sour, the physician is not to be blamed.
