गुर उपदेस परवेस रिदि अंतरि है सबद सुरति सोई सिख जग जानीऐ ॥३८०॥
Gur Oupadays Paravays Ridi Antari Hai , Sabad Surati Soee Sikh Jag Jaaneeai ॥380॥
Similarly, an obedient Sikh of the Guru who lodges the teachings of True Guru in his mind and engrosses his consciousness in the divine word is known the world over. (380)

जल कै धरन अरु धरन कै जैसे जलु प्रीति कै परसपर संगमुसमारि है ।

ਧਰਮ ਅਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਕੈ ਅਸਾਧ ਸਾਧ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਪਦਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿਧ ਉਨਮਾਨੀਐ ॥੩੮੨॥
धरम अधरम करम कै असाध साध ऊच नीच पदवी प्रसिध उनमानीऐ ॥३८२॥
Dharam Adharam Karam Kai Asaadh Saadha , Ooch Neech Padavee Prasidh Ounamaaneeai ॥382॥
Similarly, by virtue of their good deeds, the obedient Sikhs of the Guru achieve high status in society while those who indulge in vices are easily recognised by their bad deeds. (382)
ਪਾਹਨ ਕੀ ਰੇਖ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਰਬਾਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਟਰੈ ਨ ਸਨੇਹੁ ਸਾਧ ਬਿਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਅਸਾਧ ਕੋ ।
पाहन की रेख आदि अंति निरबाहु करै टरै न सनेहु साध बिग्रहु असाध को ।
Paahan Kee Raykh Aadi Anti Nirabaahu Karai , Tarai N Sanayhu Saadh Bigrahu Asaadh Ko ।
Just as a line drawn on a stone cannot be effaced and lasts till the stone perishes, so is the love of holy men with the Lord's feet and of vicious persons with evil.

तैसे गुरसिखन कउ परम पवित्र माइआ सोई दुखदाइक हुइ दहति संसार जी॥३८४॥
Taisay Gursikhan Kau Param Pavitr Maaiaa , Soee Doukhadaaik Hui Dahati Sansaar Jee ॥384॥
Similarly the mammon (maya) becomes good for obedient Sikhs of the Guru who use it for good of others according to the teachings of the Guru. But the same mammon becomes troublesome to the worldly people and causes them distress and sufferings. (384)
ਸੋਈ ਲੋਹਾ ਬਿਸੁ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਬਿਧਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਰੂਪ ਸੋਈ ਤਉ ਕੰਚਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਾਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਹੈ ।
सोई लोहा बिसु बिखै बिबिधि बंधन रूप सोई तउ कंचन जोति पारस प्रसंग है ।
Soee Lohaa Bisu Bikhai Bibidhi Bandhan Roopa , Soee Tau Kanchan Joti Paaras Prasang Hai ।

Similarly, mammon is evil of character for the worldly people but for the obedient Sikhs of the True Guru, it is highly philanthropic since it does good to many in their hands. (385)
ਕਊਆ ਜਉ ਮਰਾਲ ਸਭਾ ਜਾਇ ਬੈਠੇ ਮਾਨਸਰ ਦੁਚਿਤ ਉਦਾਸ ਬਾਸ ਆਸ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ਕੀ ।
कऊआ जउ मराल सभा जाइ बैठे मानसर दुचित उदास बास आस दुरगंध की ।
Kaooaa Jau Maraal Sabhaa Jaai Baitthay Maanasara , Douchit Udaas Baas Aas Duragandh Kee ।

गरधब अंग अरगजा जउ लेपन कीजै लोटत भसम संगि है कुटेव कंध की ।
Garadhab Ang Aragajaa Jau Laypan Keejai , Lotat Bhasam Sangi Hai Koutayv Kandh Kee ।
If a donkey is applied with paste of sandalwood, saffron and musk etc., he will still go and roll in the dust as is his character.
ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਅਸਾਧ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚੀਤਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਉਪਾਧ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਸਨਬੰਧ ਕੀ ॥੩੮੬॥
तैसे ही असाध साधसंगति न प्रीति चीति मनसा उपाध अपराध सनबंध की ॥३८६॥
Taisay Hee Asaadh Saadhasangati N Preeti Cheeti , Manasaa Oupaadh Aparaadh Sanabandh Kee ॥386॥
Similarly, those of base wisdom and turned away from the True Guru have no love or attraction for the company of saintly persons. They are ever engrossed in creating troubles and doing ill deeds. (386)
ਨਿਰਾਧਾਰ ਕੋ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਆਸਰੋ ਨਿਰਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ਹੈ ਅਨਾਥਨ ਕੋ ਦੀਨ ਕੋ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ।
निराधार को अधारु आसरो निरासन को नाथु है अनाथन को दीन को दइआलु है ।
Niraadhaar Ko Adhaaru Aasaro Niraasan Ko , Naadu Hai Anaadan Ko Deen Ko Daiaalu Hai ।
God is support of all those who are without any support. He is refuge of those who have no one to take care of them. He is the master of all those who are orphans. He is the haven of mercy for the destitutes.

अक्रितघन के दातार पतति पावन प्रभ नरक निवारन प्रतगिआ प्रतिपालु है ।

Avagoun Haran Karan Karatagiaa Svaamee , Sangee Sarabangi Ras Rasaki Rasaalu Hai ॥387॥
He destroys the vices and knows all the latent deeds of everyone. He is a companion who stands by in all thick and thin situations. Such a Lord is the treasure-house of elixir for those who relish His divine nectar. (387)
ਕੋਇਲਾ ਸੀਤਲ ਕਰ ਕਰਤ ਸਿਆਮ ਗਹੇ ਪਰਸ ਤਪਤ ਪਰਦਗਧ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ।
कोइला सीतल कर करत सिआम गहे परस तपत परदगध करत है ।
Koilaa Seetal Kar Karat Siaam Gahay , Paras Tapat Paradagadh Karat Hai ।

तैसे ही असाध संगि प्रीत हू बिरोधबुरो लोक परलोक दुख दोख न टरत है ॥३८८॥
Taisay Hee Asaadh Sangi Preet Hoo Birodh Buro , Lok Paralok Doukh Dokh N Tarat Hai ॥388॥
So is developing loving relationship with evil-minded persons. Loving him or showing dissent towards him is equally bad. Thus one cannot escape from pain and sufferings of this world and the world hereafter. (388)

Taisay Hee Srisati Ko Adrisatu Jau Aai Laagai , Jag Mai Bhagatan Kay Rom N Bhagan Hai ॥403॥
And even if more of such worldly tribulations and distresses may befall upon Guru-loving, obedient and meditating persons dear to the True Guru, they are least troubled by them and live life ever in bloom and happiness. (403)

तैसे गुरमुखि जिह घट प्रगटत प्रेम सकल संसारु तिहि दुआर बिललात है ॥४१०॥
Taisay Gurmukhi Jih Ghat Pragatat Prayma , Sakal Sansaaru Tihi Duaar Bilalaat Hai ॥410॥
So does a devoted disciple of the True Guru whose heart is kindled with the Love of the Lord, the whole world beseeches and whines at his door. (410)

Just as the beat of the drum is heard on all four sides (its sound cannot be hidden) and when the supreme celestial body-sun rises, its light cannot be concealed;

Just as the whole world knows that light emanates from a lamp, and the ocean cannot be contained in a small earthenware pitcher;

जैसे चकवै न छानो रहत सिंघासन सै देस मै दुहाई फेरे मिटे न मिटाए सै ।

Just as an emperor sitting on the throne of his mighty empire cannot remain hidden; he is known among the subjects of his kingdom and that glory and fame is hard to destroy;

तैसे गुरमुखि प्रिअ प्रेम को प्रगासु जासु गुपतु न रहै मोनि ब्रित उपजाए सै ॥४११॥
Taisay Gurmukhi Pria Praym Ko Pragaasu Jaasu , Goupatu N Rahai Moni Brit Oupajaaay Sai ॥411॥

Similarly, if a devoted Sikh renounces True Guru's service, His teachings and contemplation of His name, is engrossed in worldly quandary, he then cannot attain the status of an obedient disciple of the True Guru in the holy congregation of Guru. (412)

Just as a herd of deers never stagger from their sharp march following their leader and all proceed so very attentively,

कीटी खग म्रिग सनमुख पाछै लागे जाहि प्रानी गुर पंथ छाड चलत अगिआन है ॥४१३॥
Keetee Khag Mrig Sanamoukh Paachhai Laagay Jaahi , Praanee Gur Pand Chhaad Chalat Agiaan Hai ॥413॥
Ants, cranes and deers keep following their leader, but supreme leader of all the species who leaves the well defined path of the True Guru, is surely a fool and a highly ignorant person. (413)

So is the love of a Guru-conscious saint, the seeker of ambrosial nectar for his dear True Guru. The longing of love for his Guru that has permeated in every limb of his body and is flowing rapidly never decreases. (424)

So long as a human being performed deeds to fulfill his desires or with some aim in mind, neither his performed actions achieved anything nor any of his resolutions bore fruit.

रूप गुन प्रेम रस पूरन परमपद आन गिआन धिआन रस भरम भुलाने है ॥४३१॥
Roop Goun Praym Ras Pooran Paramapada , Aan Giaan Dhiaan Ras Bharam Bhulaanay Hai ॥431॥
By virtue of the loving merits of the Naam blessed by the radiant True Guru, a Sikh of the Guru attains supreme spiritual state and rejects all other worldly contemplations and awarenesses that put one in wandering of doubts. (431)
ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਹੀ ਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਹਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਪਤੰਗ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਕੈ ਅਨੂਪ ਰੂਪ ਦੀਪਕ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਹੈ ।
प्रथम ही आन धिआन हानि कै पतंग बिधि पाछै कै अनूप रूप दीपक दिखाए है ।
Pradam Hee Aan Dhiaan Haani Kai Patang Bidhi , Paachhai Kai Anoop Roop Deepak Dikhaaay Hai ।
Like a moth, an obedient human being of the Guru regards all other concentrations of mind as loss incurring proposition and then, like seeing the light of the lamp (by the moth), he sees the beautiful sight of the True Guru.

Just as water from a well can be drawn by different methods, such as bucket and rope, Persian wheel etc. and then it is directed to irrigate a field and it goes nowhere else.

A traveller and a rain-bird may keep on sitting thirsty near a well but cannot quench their thirst without means to draw water from the well and therefore cannot assuage their thirst.

Just as a crow cawing is not appreciated by anyone, just as a devotee of a god is not appreciated in the holy assembly of god-like True Guru. (because he may be saying haughty traits of his deity)

Just as a dog licks when he is patted and bites when shouted and scolded at. (both acts are not good),
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਰਾਲ ਮਾਲ ਸੋਭਤ ਨ ਬਗੁ ਠਗੁ ਕਾਢੀਐ ਪਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਨ ਦੇਵ ਸੇਵਕੈ ॥੪੫੨॥
जैसे मराल माल सोभत न बगु ठगु काढीऐ पकरि करि आन देव सेवकै ॥४५२॥
Jaisay Maraal Maal Sobhat N Bagu Tthagu , Kaaddheeai Pakari Kari Aan Dayv Sayvakai ॥452॥
Just as a heron does not fit in the group of swans and is turned out from there, so does a devotee of some god or goddess not fit into the holy assembly of God-worshipping saints. Such fake devotees should be turned out from these assemblies. (452)

Just as an owl cannot know the greatness of sunlight, similarly a worshipper of other deities cannot have perception of True Guru's advice and company of the holy men.

आन देव सेव जाहि सतिगुर पूरे साह सरब निधान जा कै लैन अरु दैन कउ ॥४५४॥
