Aadi Purakh Aadaysa , Aonam Sree Satigur Charan ॥

My Supplication to Ad(i) Purakh (Primordial Lord), salutation to the holy feet of the True Guru (who is the embodiment of the Lord).


ਘਟ ਘਟ ਕਾ ਪਰਵੇਸ ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਸਸਿ ॥੧॥੧॥

घट घट का परवेस एक अनेक बिबेक ससि ॥१॥१॥

Ghat Ghat Kaa Paravaysa , Ayk Anayk Bibayk Sasi ॥1॥1॥

Like the moon, who though one, resides everywhere and in everyone and yet remains one.


ਓਨਮ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਦੇਸੁ ।

ओनम स्री सतिगुर चरन आदि पुरख आदेसु ।

Aonam Sree Satigur Charana , Aadi Purakh Aadaysu ।

Salutation in the holy feet of Satguru, the embodiment of glorious Waheguru, who is the Primeval Lord.


ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਸਸਿ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਕਾ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥੨॥੧॥

एक अनेक बिबेक ससि घट घट का परवेस ॥२॥१॥

Ayk Anayk Bibayk Sasi , Ghat Ghat Kaa Paravays ॥2॥1॥

He is like the moon, who though one, is present everywhere and yet remains one.


ਘਟ ਘਟ ਕਾ ਪਰਵੇਸ ਸੇਸ ਪਹਿ ਕਹਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ।

घट घट का परवेस सेस पहि कहत न आवै ।

Ghat Ghat Kaa Paravaysa , Says Pahi Kahat N Aavai ।

Waheguru (Lord) who is all-pervading and whose extent cannot be defined even by Sheshnag (a mythological serpent with thousand heads).


ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਕਹਿ ਨੇਤ ਬੇਦੁ ਬੰਦੀ ਜਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ।

नेत नेत कहि नेत बेदु बंदी जनु गावै ।

Nayt Nayt Kahi Nayta , Baydu Bandee Janu Gaavai ।

Whose praises Ved, Bhats and all others have been singing since eons and yet say-not this, not even this.


ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅਰੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਹੁਤੇ ਹੁਤ ਹੈ ਪੁਨਿ ਹੋਨਮ ।

आदि मधि अरु अंतु हुते हुत है पुनि होनम ।

Aadi Madhi Aru Antu , Houtay Hout Hai Pouni Honam ।

Who was there in the beginning, in the middle, in the end, and will remain in future.


ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਦੇਸ ਚਰਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਓਨਮ ॥੩॥੧॥

आदि पुरख आदेस चरन स्री सतिगुर ओनम ॥३॥१॥

Aadi Purakh Aadaysa , Charan Sree Satigur Aonam ॥3॥1॥

My supplication to Him, through the holy feet of the True Guru, in which He is totally effulgent.


ਅਬਿਗਤਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਨੰਤ ਗੁਰ ।

अबिगति अलख अभेव अगम अपार अनंत गुर ।

Abigati Alakh Abhayva , Agam Apaar Anant Gur ।

Eternal, imperceptible, fearless, beyond reach, illimitable, infinite and destroyer of the darkness of ignorance.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥੧॥੨॥

सतिगुर नानक देव पारब्रहम पूरन ब्रहम ॥१॥२॥

Satigur Naanak Dayva , Paarabraham Pooran Braham ॥1॥2॥

Waheguru (Lord) who is transcendental and immanent in the form of Guru Nanak Dev.


ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਨੰਤ ਗੁਰ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ।

अगम अपार अनंत गुर अबिगत अलख अभेव ।

Agam Apaar Anant Gur , Abigat Alakh Abhayv ।

The embodiment of formless God, who is imperishable, beyond description, inaccessible, illimitable, infinite and destroyer of darkness of ignorance.


ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ॥੨॥੨॥

पारब्रहम पूरन ब्रहम सतिगुर नानक देव ॥२॥२॥

Paarabraham Pooran Brahama , Satigur Naanak Dayv ॥2॥2॥

Satgur (True Guru) Nanak Dev is the immanent form of God.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਵੀ ਸਭ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ।

सतिगुर नानक देव देव देवी सभ धिआवहि ।

Satigur Naanak Dayva , Dayv Dayvee Sabh Dhiaavahi ।

All gods and goddesses contemplate on the True Guru, Guru Nanak Dev.


ਨਾਦ ਬਾਦ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ਰਾਗ ਰਾਗਨਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹਿ ।

नाद बाद बिसमाद राग रागनि गुन गावहि ।

Naad Baad Bisamaada , Raag Raagani Goun Gaavahi ।

They, along with minstrels of heaven, sing his praises, to the accompaniment of musical instruments, producing ecstatic music.


ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਪਰੰਪਰ ।

सुंन समाधि अगाधि साध संगति सपरंपर ।

Sounn Samaadhi Agaadhi , Saadh Sangati Saparanpar ।

Saints and holy men in his company (Guru Nanak) go in deep meditation and state of nothingness.


ਅਬਿਗਤਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮਿਤਿ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ॥੩॥੨॥

अबिगति अलख अभेव अगम अगमिति अपरंपर ॥३॥२॥

Abigati Alakh Abhayva , Agam Agamiti Aparanpar ॥3॥2॥

And get absorbed in the eternal, imperceptible, infinite, fearless, and inaccessible Lord (Satguru).


ਜਗਮਗ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ।

जगमग जोति सरूप परम जोति मिल जोति महि ।

Jagamag Joti Saroopa , Param Joti Mil Joti Mahi ।

The light eternal of Guru Nanak Dev melded into the light of Guru Angad Dev, who acquired effulgence like the former.


ਅਦਭੁਤ ਅਤਹਿ ਅਨੂਪ ਪਰਮ ਤਤੁ ਤਤਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ॥੧॥੩॥

अदभुत अतहि अनूप परम ततु ततहि मिलिओ ॥१॥३॥

Adabhout Atahi Anoopa , Param Tatu Tatahi Miliao ॥1॥3॥

With the light of Guru Nanak merging with that of Guru Angad Dev Ji, the latter became wondrous in form and beyond words of praise.


ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਗਮਗ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ।

परम जोति मिलि जोति महि जगमग जोति सरूप ।

Param Joti Mili Joti Mahi , Jagamag Joti Saroop ।

Light supreme (Guru Nanak Dev Ji) merged in Guru Angad Dev's light, who himself became light divine.


ਪਰਮ ਤਤ ਤਤਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਅਦਭੁਤ ਅਤ ਹੀ ਅਨੂਪ ॥੨॥੩॥

परम तत ततहि मिलिओ अदभुत अत ही अनूप ॥२॥३॥

Param Tat Tatahi Miliao , Adabhout At Hee Anoop ॥2॥3॥

Truth of Guru Nanak merged with the essence of Guru Angad, transforming him into astonishing form.


ਅਦਭੁਤ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਅਨੂਪ ਰੂਪ ਪਾਰਸ ਕੈ ਪਾਰਸ ।

अदभुत अति ही अनूप रूप पारस कै पारस ।

Adabhout Ati Hee Anoopa , Roop Paaras Kai Paaras ।

Guru Angad coming in contact with Guru Nanak, the philosopher-stone, became a philosopher-stone himself. His form too became wondrous.


ਗੁਰ ਅੰਗਦ ਮਿਲਿ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗ ਉਧਾਰਸ ।

गुर अंगद मिलि अंग संग मिलि संग उधारस ।

Gur Angad Mili Anga , Sang Mili Sang Udhaaras ।

Becoming inseparable from Guru Nanak, Lehna Ji became Guru Angad and then whosoever came in touch with him (Guru Angad) was liberated.


ਅਕਲ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਸੂਤ੍ਰ ਗਤਿ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ।

अकल कला भरपूरि सूत्र गति ओति पोति महि।

Akal Kalaa Bharapoori , Sootr Gati Aoti Poti Mahi ।

Guru Angad Ji integrated himself like warp and weft with Guru Nanak, the possessor of Divine power of the Lord.


ਜਗਮਗ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ॥੩॥੩॥

जगमग जोति सरूप जोति मिलि जोति जोति महि ॥३॥३॥

Jagamag Joti Saroopa , Joti Mili Joti Joti Mahi ॥3॥3॥

Light merged with light so much that whosoever came in contact with light embodiment (Guru Angad), became resplendent too.


ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਚਨ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ।

अंम्रित द्रिसटि निवास अंम्रित बचन अनहद सबद ।

Anmrit Drisati Nivaasa , Anmrit Bachan Anahad Sabad ।

In the divine glimpse of Guru Amar Das, dwells the elixir of life. (On whomsoever he casts his look, he makes him immortal). His elixir-like words are like unstruck music.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਮਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਮਿਲਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਏ ॥੧॥੪॥

सतिगुर अमर प्रगास मिलि अंम्रित अंम्रित भए ॥१॥४॥

Satigur Amar Pragaasa , Mili Anmrit Anmrit Bhaay ॥1॥4॥

Resplendent True Guru Amar Das Ji became elixir-like after meeting Guru Angad Dev Ji. He now makes others calm and immortal.


ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਚਨ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨਿਵਾਸ ।

अंम्रित बचन अनहद सबद अंम्रित द्रिसटि निवास ।

Anmrit Bachan Anahad Sabada , Anmrit Drisati Nivaas ।

Meditating on unstruck melodious Divine Word, the sight and utterances of Guru Amar Das Ji, started showering elixir of life.


ਮਿਲਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਮਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥੨॥੪॥

मिलि अंम्रित अंम्रित भए सतिगुर अमर प्रगास ॥२॥४॥

Mili Anmrit Anmrit Bhaay , Satigur Amar Pragaas ॥2॥4॥

Meeting Guru Angad Dev Ji, elixir-like cool, tranquil and granter of emancipation, Satgur Amar Das too became the same.


ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਮਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਤਾਸ ਚਰਨਾਮ੍ਰਤ ਪਾਵੈ ।

सतिगुर अमर प्रगास तास चरनाम्रत पावै ।

Satigur Amar Pragaasa , Taas Charanaamrat Paavai ।

Satgur Amar Das Ji, who is light refulgent, whosoever partakes nectar-like wash of his feet.


ਕਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਹਿਕਾਮ ਪਰਮਪਦ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਵੈ ।

काम नाम निहिकाम परमपद सहज समावै ।

Kaam Naam Nihikaama , Paramapad Sahaj Samaavai ।

Becomes free from all desires, is absorbed in high state of spirituality and equipoise.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਜ ਆਸਨ ।

गुरमुखि संधि सुगंध साध संगति निज आसन ।

Gurmukhi Sandhi Sougandha , Saadh Sangati Nij Aasan ।

By the fragrance of Naam Simran of Guru Amar Das Ji, the Guru's obedient seeker finds stability in the company of holy men and Lord's devotees.


ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੁਖ ਬਚਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਨ ॥੩॥੪॥

अंम्रित द्रिसटि निवास अंम्रित मुख बचन प्रगासन ॥३॥४॥

Anmrit Drisati Nivaasa , Anmrit Moukh Bachan Pragaasan ॥3॥4॥

In the elixir-like vision of Guru Amar Das, lies the nectar of life and his words provide elixir-like luminance of Naam of the Lord.


ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਸਨ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲਿ ।

ब्रहमासन बिस्राम गुर भए गुरमुखि संधि मिलि ।

Brahamaasan Bisraama , Gur Bhaay Gurmukhi Sandhi Mili ।

Satguru who resides in Waheguru, meeting such Guru-conscious person (Guru Amar Das), and becoming one with him, he too acquired all traits of Guru.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਮਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਏ ॥੧॥੫॥

गुरमुखि रमता राम राम नाम गुरमुखि भए ॥१॥५॥

Gurmukhi Ramataa Raama , Raam Naam Gurmukhi Bhaay ॥1॥5॥

Through the blessings of Naam Simran of the principal Guru Satguru (Amar Das Ji), Guru Ram Das Ji too became prime Guru.


ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਸੰਧ ਮਿਲਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਸਨ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ।

गुर भए गुरसिख संध मिलि ब्रहमासन बिस्राम ।

Gur Bhaay Gursikh Sandh Mili , Brahamaasan Bisraam ।

In the association of prime Guru (Guru Amar Das Ji), he too became Guru and found refuge in the holy feet of the Lord.


ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਮਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥੫॥

राम नाम गुरमुखि भए गुरमुखि रमता राम ॥२॥५॥

Raam Naam Gurmukhi Bhaay , Gurmukhi Ramataa Raam ॥2॥5॥

The Guru-conscious person whose name is Ram Das, by perpetual meditation on Lord's name, became Guru-oriented and virtuous (Satguru).


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਮਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਓ ।

गुरमुखि रमता राम नाम गुरमुखि प्रगटाइओ ।

Gurmukhi Ramataa Raama , Naam Gurmukhi Pragataaiao ।

Through God-conscious Guru Amar Das Ji and by the blessing of meditation on His name, the virtuous Ram Das emerged as Guru Ram Das (slave of the Lord).


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਹਾਇਓ ।

सबद सुरति गुरु गिआन धिआन गुर गुरू कहाइओ ।

Sabad Surati Guru Giaana , Dhiaan Gur Guru Kahaaiao ।

Because of knowledge of Guru Shabad and consciously uniting with Him, Guru Ram Das became known as principal Guru.


ਦੀਪ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਦੀਪ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਮਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰ ।

दीप जोति मिलि दीप जोति जगमग अंतरि उर ।

Deep Joti Mili Deepa , Joti Jagamag Antari Ur ।

The flame of a beacon lights up another lamp.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਮਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਸੰਧ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਗੁਰ ॥੩॥੫॥

गुरमुखि रमता राम संध गुरमुखि मिलि भए गुर ॥३॥५॥

Gurmukhi Ramataa Raama , Sandh Gurmukhi Mili Bhaay Gur ॥3॥5॥

Thus Guru Ram Das became principal Guru, through the blessings of Simran of Lord's name and his association with Guru Amar Das Ji.


ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ਫਲ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧ ਗਤਿ ।

आदि अंति बिसमाद फल द्रुम गुर सिख संध गति ।

Aadi Anti Bisamaada , Dhal Droum Gur Sikh Sandh Gati ।

Just as the puzzle of seed and tree as to who came first is strange and perplexing, similarly strange is understanding the meeting of Guru and Sikh.


ਆਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਰਮਾਦਿ ਅੰਤ ਅਨੰਤ ਨ ਜਾਨੀਐ ॥੧॥੬॥

आदि परम परमादि अंत अनंत न जानीऐ ॥१॥६॥

Aadi Param Paramaadi , Ant Anant N Jaaneeai ॥1॥6॥

This mystery of the beginning and end is beyond comprehension. Lord is beyond, away and infinite.


ਫਲ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਸੰਧ ਗਤਿ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤ ਬਿਸਮਾਦਿ ।

फल द्रुम गुरसिख संध गति आदि अंत बिसमादि ।

Dhal Droum Gursikh Sandh Gati , Aadi Ant Bisamaadi ।

Guru Ram Das caused the meeting of Guru and Sikh, in the same wondrous way of fruit and tree.


ਅੰਤ ਅਨੰਤ ਨ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਆਦ ਪਰਮ ਪਰਮਾਦਿ ॥੨॥੬॥

अंत अनंत न जानीऐ आद परम परमादि ॥२॥६॥

Ant Anant N Jaaneeai , Aad Param Paramaadi ॥2॥6॥

That perspective is infinite, and no one can understand it. It is beyond, away and still away out of the reach of mortals.


ਆਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਰਮਾਦਿ ਨਾਦ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ।

आदि परम परमादि नाद मिलि नाद सबद धुनि ।

Aadi Param Paramaadi , Naad Mili Naad Sabad Dhouni ।

Just as the sound of musical instruments melds with the words (of song/hymns), similarly Guru Ram Das and Guru Arjan became indistinguishable.


ਸਲਿਲਹਿ ਸਲਿਲ ਸਮਾਇ ਨਾਦ ਸਰਤਾ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੁਨਿ ।

सलिलहिसलिल समाइ नाद सरता सागर सुनि ।

Salilahi Salil Samaai , Naad Sarataa Saagar Souni ।

Just as the river water becomes inseparable from the water of the ocean, Guru Arjan became one with Guru Amar Das by engrossing himself in his precepts and following them obediently.


ਨਰਪਤਿ ਸੁਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਹੋਤ ਜੋਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਨ ਗੁਰ ਜਨ ।

नरपति सुत न्रिप होत जोति गुरमुखि गुन गुर जन ।

Narapati Sout Nrip Hota , Joti Gurmukhi Goun Gur Jan ।

Just as son of a king becomes king, similarly Guru Arjan born as son to Guru Ram Das became an enlightened soul by singing the eulogies of Lord, a boon blessed to him by Satguru.


ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਏ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਰਜਨ ॥੩॥੬॥

राम नाम परसादि भए गुर ते गुरु अरजन ॥३॥६॥

Raam Naam Parasaadi Bhaay , Gur Tay Guru Arajan ॥3॥6॥

By the grace of Guru Ram Das, Arjan Dev succeeded him as Guru Arjan Dev.


ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਆਪਾ ਆਪ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਹੁਇ ।

पूरन ब्रहम बिबेक आपा आप प्रगास हुइ ।

Pooran Braham Bibayka , Aapaa Aap Pragaas Hui ।

Being supreme conscious and knowledgeable; it seems God Himself has descended as light divine in the form of Guru Hargobind.


ਨਾਮ ਦੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਬਖਾਨੀਐ ॥੧॥੭॥

नाम दोइ प्रभ एक गुर गोबिंद बखानीऐ ॥१॥७॥

Naam Doi Prabh Ayka , Gur Gobind Bakhaaneeai ॥1॥7॥

One may hold them (Guru Hargobind) and Gobind different due to their names, but in reality, God Himself has appeared in the form of Hargobind.


ਆਪਾ ਆਪ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਬੇਕ ।

आपा आप प्रगास होइ पूरन ब्रहम बिबेक ।

Aapaa Aap Pragaas Hoi , Pooran Braham Bibayk ।

Guru Hargobind, the enlightened, is manifest of Lord. He is granter of spiritual knowledge.

गुर गोबिंद बखानीऐ नाम दोइ प्रभ एक ॥२॥७॥

Gur Gobind Bakhaaneeai , Naam Doi Prabh Ayk ॥2॥7॥

Guru and Gobind are just two separate names, but in reality, it is Lord Himself who is manifest.


ਨਾਮ ਦੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਟੇਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਠਹਰਾਈ ।

नाम दोइ प्रभ एक टेक गुरमुखि ठहराई ।

Naam Doi Prabh Ayka , Tayk Gurmukhi Tthaharaaee ।

Guru and Gobind though are two different names, in reality, He himself is refulgent.


ਆਦਿ ਭਏ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਬਡਾਈ ।

आदि भए गुर नाम दुतीआ गोबिंद बडाई ।

Aadi Bhaay Gur Naama , Douteeaa Gobind Badaaee ।

Sikhs ever in attendance of Guru, has this strong belief that, first He was called Guru Arjan and then he gave this honor of Guruship to Hargobind.


ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਚਨ ਰਚਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਓਥਾਪਨ ।

हरि गुर हरिगोबिंद रचन रचि थापि ओथापन ।

Hari Gur Harigobinda , Rachan Rachi Daapi Aodaapan ।

God Lord is Guru Arjan Himself and then He Himself became Hargobind.


ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੁਇ ਆਪਾ ਆਪਨ ॥੩॥੭॥

पूरन ब्रहम बिबेक प्रगट हुइ आपा आपन ॥३॥७॥

Pooran Braham Bibayka , Pragat Hui Aapaa Aapan ॥3॥7॥

The Omnipotent Lord who created the cosmos, established it and has singular authority of destroying it; it seems He Himself has taken the form of Hargobind to reveal all knowledge about Himself.


ਬਿਸਮਾਦਹਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ਅਸਚਰਜਹਿ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਗਤਿ ।

बिसमादहि बिसमाद असचरजहि असचरज गति ।

Bisamaadahi Bisamaada , Asacharajahi Asacharaj Gati ।

God - manifest Satguru's play is ecstatic and blissful, astonishing beyond astonishment.


ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਮਾਦਿ ਅਦਭੁਤ ਪਰਮਦਭੁਤ ਭਏ ॥੧॥੮॥

आदि पुरख परमादि अदभुत परमदभुत भए ॥१॥८॥

Aadi Purakh Paramaadi , Adabhout Paramadabhout Bhaay ॥1॥8॥

Unimaginably wondrous, and amazing beyond perception.


ਅਸਚਰਜਹਿ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਗਤਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦਹਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ।

असचरजहि असचरज गति बिसमादहि बिसमाद ।

Asacharajahi Asacharaj Gati , Bisamaadahi Bisamaad ।

(Describing the wondrous state of Guru who is immanent of the Lord), we have reached the awesome of awesome state, in the most enrapturing ecstatic state.


ਅਦਭੁਤ ਪਰਮਦਭੁਤ ਭਏ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਮਾਦਿ ॥੨॥੮॥

अदभुत परमदभुत भए आदि पुरख परमादि ॥२॥८॥

Adabhout Paramadabhout Bhaay , Aadi Purakh Paramaadi ॥2॥8॥

Wonderfully strange condition of transcendence seeing the magnificence of the Lord.


ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਰਮਾਦਿ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਰਸ ਗੰਧ ਅਗੋਚਰ ।

आदि पुरख परमादि स्वाद रस गंध अगोचर ।

Aadi Purakh Paramaadi , Svaad Ras Gandh Agochar ।

Primordial Lord (God) has no beginning. He is beyond and still farther. He is free of such mundane worldly pleasures like taste, desires and fragrances.


ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਰਸ ਅਸ ਪਰਸ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਸਬਦ ਮਨੋਚਰ ।

द्रिसटि दरस अस परस सुरति मति सबद मनोचर ।

Drisati Daras As Parasa , Surati Mati Sabad Manochar ।

He is beyond vision, touch, reach of mind, intelligence and words.


ਲੋਗ ਬੇਦ ਗਤਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਲਖੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ।

लोग बेद गति गिआन लखे नहीं अलख अभेवा ।

Log Bayd Gati Giaana , Lakhay Naheen Alakh Abhayvaa ।

The imperceptible and unattached Lord cannot be known by study of Vedas and through other earthly knowledge.


ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਕਰਿ ਨਮੋ ਨਮੋ ਨਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੩॥੮॥

नेत नेत करि नमो नमो नम सतिगुर देवा ॥३॥८॥

Nayt Nayt Kari Namo Namo , Nam Satigur Dayvaa ॥3॥8॥

Satguru who is embodiment of Lord and inhabits His divine radiance is infinite. Thus, he is worthy of salutation and obeisance in all the three times - past, present and future.


ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਕੀ ਨ ਸੁਧਿ ਰਹੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਕੀ ਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਰਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਮੈ ਨ ਮਤਿ ਹੈ ।

दरसन देखत ही सुधि की न सुधि रही बुधि की न बुधि रही मति मै न मति है ।

Darasan Daykhat Hee Sudhi Kee N Sudhi Rahee , Budhi Kee N Budhi Rahee Mati Mai N Mati Hai ।

A glimpse of (Satguru) left me bereft of all my consciousness, senses, intelligence, cleverness and all other considered wisdom of the world.


ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮੈ ਨ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਅਉ ਧਿਆਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਗਿਆਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਹਿਓ ਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਨ ਗਤਿ ਹੈ ।

सुरति मै न सुरति अउ धिआन मै न धिआनु रहिओ गिआन मै न गिआन रहिओ गति मै न गति है ।

Surati Mai N Surati Au Dhiaan Mai N Dhiaanu Rahiao , Giaan Mai N Giaan Rahiao Gati Mai N Gati Hai ।

I lost my awareness, attachment of mind with insignificant matters, desires to acquire base or futile ego inflating knowledge and other worldly predicaments.


ਧੀਰਜੁ ਕੋ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਗਰਬ ਕੋ ਗਰਬੁ ਗਇਓ ਰਤਿ ਮੈ ਨ ਰਤਿ ਰਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਮੈ ।

धीरजु को धीरजु गरब को गरबु गइओ रति मै न रति रही पति रति पति मै ।

Dheeraju Ko Dheeraju Garab Ko Garabu Gaiao , Rati Mai N Rati Rahee Pati Rati Pati Mai ।

My patience was lost and so was my vanity. There was no life in me, and I was bereft of my existence even.


ਅਦਭੁਤ ਪਰਮਦਭੁਤ ਬਿਸਮੈ ਬਿਸਮ ਅਸਚਰਜੈ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਅਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਹੈ ॥੧॥੯॥

अदभुत परमदभुतबिसमै बिसम असचरजै असचरज अति अति है ॥१॥९॥

Adabhout Paramadabhout Bisamai Bisama , Asacharajai Asacharaj Ati Ati Hai ॥1॥9॥

The glimpse of Satguru is capable of amazing one with wondrous feelings. These are astonishing and marvelous and there is no end to this amazement.


ਦਸਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਕੇ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਕਉਨ ਭਉਨ ਕਹਓ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਤਉ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਪਾਵਈ ।

दसम सथान के समानि कउन भउन कहओ गुरमुखि पावै सु तउ अनत न पावई ।

Dasam Sadaan Kay Samaani Kaoun Bhaoun Kahaao , Gurmukhi Paavai Su Tau Anat N Paavaee ।

What other place of mystic abode can I say than the tenth concealed opening of a human being? Only the Guru conscious person can reach it by the grace of True Guru by meditating on His name.


ਉਨਮਨੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਟੰਤਰ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਉਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਇਆ ਕੈ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਜਾਹੀ ਤਾਹੀ ਬਨਿ ਆਵਈ ।

उनमनी जोति पटंतर दीजै कउन जोति दइआ कै दिखावै जाही ताही बनि आवई ।

Ounamanee Joti Patantar Deejai Kaoun Joti , Daiaa Kai Dikhaavai Jaahee Taahee Bani Aavaee ।

What light can be equated with the radiance one receives at the time of spiritual enlightenment?


ਅਨਹਦ ਨਾਦ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਦ ਕਓਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਸੁਨਾਵੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਈ ।

अनहद नाद समसरि नाद बाद कओन स्री गुर सुनावे जाहि सोई लिव लावई ।

Anahad Naad Samasari Naad Baad Kaaona , Sree Gur Sounaavay Jaahi Soee Liv Laavaee ।

What melodious musical sound can be equal to the melodious unstruck musical sound of divine word?


ਨਿਝਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸ ਅਪਿਓ ਪੀਆਵੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਤਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਸਮਾਵਈ ॥੨॥੧੦॥

निझर अपार धार तुलि न अंम्रित रस अपिओ पीआवै जाहि ताही मै समावई ॥२॥१०॥

Nijhar Apaar Dhaar Tuli N Anmrit Rasa , Apiao Peeaavai Jaahi Taahee Mai Samaavaee ॥2॥10॥

There is no other elixir capable of making one immortal than the one that flows perpetually in the concealed opening (Dasam Duar) of a human being. And one who is blessed by the True Guru (Satguru) to receive this elixir of immortality obtains it by His grace. (10)


ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਬੀਸ ਇਕੀਸ ਈਸ ਇਤ ਤੇ ਉਲੰਘਿ ਉਤ ਜਾਇ ਠਹਰਾਵਈ ।

गुर सिख संधि मिले बीस इकीस ईस इत ते उलंघि उत जाइ ठहरावई ।

Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay Bees Ikees Eesa , It Tay Ulanghi Out Jaai Tthaharaavaee ।

Meeting with Guru, a Sikh receives the Lord's word to meditate upon and by his untiring and resolute efforts become one with Him. He frees himself from the worldly matters and lives in harmony in the realm of the Lord.


ਚਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮੂਦ ਪੇਖੈ ਦਿਬ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੈ ਜਗਮਗ ਜੋਤਿ ਓਨਮਨੀ ਸੁਧ ਪਾਵਈ ।

चरम द्रिसटि मूद पेखै दिब द्रिसटि कै जगमग जोति ओनमनी सुध पावई ।

Charam Drisati Mood Paykhai Dib Drisati Kai , Jagamag Joti Aonamanee Sudh Paavaee ।

He shuts his eyes from mundane worldly attractions and lives in the spiritual wisdom that helps him feel His presence in everything.


ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੰਕੋਚਤ ਹੀ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੋਲਿ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਦ ਪਰੈ ਅਨਹਤ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਈ ।

सुरति संकोचत ही बजर कपाट खोलि नाद बाद परै अनहत लिव लावई ।

Surati Sankochat Hee Bajar Kapaat Kholi , Naad Baad Parai Anahat Liv Laavaee ।

Weaning his thoughts away from the worldly attractions, his doors of ignorance are opened; he is distracted from all sources of worldly pleasures and he gets engrossed in listening to celestial songs and music.


ਬਚਨ ਬਿਸਰਜਤ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੁਇ ਨਿਝਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਆਵਈ ॥੧੧॥

बचन बिसरजत अन रस रहित हुइ निझर अपार धार अपिउ पीआवई ॥११॥

Bachan Bisarajat An Ras Rahit Hui , Nijhar Apaar Dhaar Apiu Peeaavaee ॥11॥

Renouncing the worldly matters and shedding all attachment with worldly pleasures, he drinks deep the elixir that flows continuously in his (Dasam Duar) the celestial door of the body. (11)


ਜਉ ਲਉ ਅਨਰਸ ਬਸਿ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਨਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਜਉ ਲਉ ਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਆਪਾ ਆਪੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੇਖੀਐ ।

जउ लउ अनरस बसि तउ लउ नही प्रेम रसु जउ लउ आन धिआन आपा आपु नही देखीऐ ।

Jau Lau Anaras Basi Tau Lau Nahee Praym Rasu , Jau Lau Aan Dhiaan Aapaa Aapu Nahee Daykheeai ।

So long a human being remains absorbed in worldly attractions and pleasures, he cannot know love. So long his attention is focused on something else, he cannot realize self.


ਜਉ ਲਉ ਆਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਨਹੀ ਅਧਿਆਤਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਜਉ ਲਉ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਦ ਨ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਬਿਸੇਖੀਐ ।

जउ लउ आन गिआन तउ लउ नही अधिआतम गिआन जउ लउ नाद बाद न अनाहद बिसेखीऐ ।

Jau Lau Aan Giaan Tau Lau Nahee Adhiaatam Giaana , Jau Lau Naad Baad N Anaahad Bisaykheeai ।

(Renouncing Lord) as long as one is busy acquiring knowledge of mundane worldly things, he remains bereft of spiritual wisdom. As long as one remains involved in worldly pleasures one cannot hear the unstruck celestial music of divine word.


ਜਉ ਲਉ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਜਉ ਲਉ ਨ ਲਖਾਵੈ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਅਲਖ ਨ ਲੇਖੀਐ ।

जउ लउ अहंबुधि सुधि होइ न अंतरि गति जउ लउ न लखावै तउ लउ अलख न लेखीऐ ।

Jau Lau Ahanbudhi Sudhi Hoi N Antari Gati , Jau Lau N Lakhaavai Tau Lau Alakh N Laykheeai ।

As long as one remains proud and arrogant, one cannot realise self. Till such time True Guru does not initiate a person with the boon of Lord's name and propitiate the Lord, one cannot realise the 'formless God'.


ਸਤਿ ਰੂਪ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕ ਮੇਕ ਏਕ ਏਕ ਭੇਖੀਐ ॥੧੨॥

सति रूप सतिनाम सतिगुर गिआन धिआन एक ही अनेक मेक एक एक भेखीऐ ॥१२॥

Sati Roop Satinaam Satigur Giaan Dhiaana , Ayk Hee Anayk Mayk Ayk Ayk Bhaykheeai ॥12॥

The knowledge of Almighty lies in the consecrating words of the True Guru that leads one to reality of His name and form. By uniting his mind with His name, the Lord who prevails in various forms gets revealed. (12)


ਨਾਨਾ ਮਿਸਟਾਨ ਪਾਨ ਬਹੁ ਬਿੰਜਨਾਦਿ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਸੀਚਤ ਸਰਬ ਰਸ ਰਸਨਾ ਕਹਾਈ ਹੈ ।

नाना मिसटान पान बहु बिंजनादि स्वाद सीचत सरब रस रसना कहाई है ।

Naanaa Misataan Paan Bahu Binjanaadi Svaada , Seechat Sarab Ras Rasanaa Kahaaee Hai ।

Tongue that enjoys many forms of sweet and savoury foods, drinks and is relisher of all the tastes is called gustation. Eyes see good and bad, beautiful and ugly and is therefore known as vision power.


ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਰਸ ਅਰੁ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਅਮਿਤ ਬਡਾਈ ਹੈ ।

द्रिसटि दरस अरु सबद सुरति लिव गिआन धिआन सिमरन अमित बडाई है ।

Drisati Daras Aru Sabad Surati Liva , Giaan Dhiaan Simaran Amit Badaaee Hai ।

Ears for their ability to hear all sorts of sounds, melodies etc. are called hearing power. With the use of all these faculties, one obtains knowledge of various things, focuses one's mind in meaningful thoughts and earns worldly respect.


ਸਕਲ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਅਸਪਰਸ ਅਉ ਰਾਗ ਨਾਦ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਲ ਬਚਨ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਟੇਕ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ।

सकल सुरति असपरस अउ राग नाद बुधि बल बचन बिबेक टेक पाई है ।

Sakal Surati Asaparas Au Raag Naada , Budhi Bal Bachan Bibayk Tayk Paaee Hai ।

The skin brings awareness of things through touch. Enjoyment of music and songs, intellect, strength, speech and dependence on discrimination is the boon of the Lord.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਫਲ ਹੁਇ ਬੋਲਤ ਮਧੁਰ ਧੁਨਿ ਸੁੰਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥

गुरमतिसतिनाम सिमरत सफल हुइ बोलत मधुर धुनि सुंन सुखदाई है ॥१३॥

Gurmati Satinaam Simarat Sadhal Hui , Bolat Madhur Dhouni Sounn Soukhadaaee Hai ॥13॥

But all these senses of knowledge are useful if a person obtains the boon of Guru's wisdom, dwells his mind in the name of the Immortal Lord and sings the sweet paeans of me Lord's name. Such tune and melody of His name is bestower of bliss and happiness. (13)


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਬਸਿ ਹੁਇ ਪਤੰਗ ਸੰਗਮ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਬਿਰਹ ਬਿਛੋਹ ਮੀਨ ਹੁਇ ਨ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

प्रेम रस बसि हुइ पतंग संगम न जानै बिरह बिछोह मीन हुइ न मरि जाने है ।

Praym Ras Basi Hui Patang Sangam N Jaanai , Birah Bichhoh Meen Hui N Mari Jaanay Hai ।

In order to become one with my dear beloved, I, a deceitful lover, not possessed by his love, did not learn from a mot how to die in separation from him, nor did I learn from fish how to die in the separation of beloved.


ਦਰਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਮੈ ਨ ਹੁਇ ਜੋਤੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਚਰਨ ਬਿਮੁਖ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਠਹਰਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

दरस धिआन जोति मै न हुइ जोती सरूप चरन बिमुख होइ प्रान ठहराने है ।

Daras Dhiaan Joti Mai N Hui Jotee Saroopa , Charan Bimoukh Hoi Praan Tthaharaanay Hai ।

And here I am who is not making any effort to merge in my Lord by keeping his refulgence in my heart; and yet with all this recalcitrance, I am alive.


ਮਿਲਿ ਬਿਛਰਤ ਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨ ਬਿਰਹ ਜਾਨੀ ਮੀਨ ਅਉ ਪਤੰਗ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੇਖਤ ਲਜਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

मिलि बिछरत गति प्रेम न बिरह जानी मीन अउ पतंग मोहि देखत लजाने है ।

Mili Bichharat Gati Praym N Birah Jaanee , Meen Au Patang Mohi Daykhat Lajaanay Hai ।

I have not understood the intensity of love and consequence of death as is in the case of a moth and flame or fish and water, and therefore both moth and fish feel ashamed of my; fraudulent love.


ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧੰਨਿ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਗਦ ਜੋਨਿ ਕਪਟ ਸਨੇਹ ਦੇਹ ਨਰਕ ਨ ਮਾਨੇ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥

मानस जनम ध्रिगु धंनि है त्रिगद जोनि कपट सनेह देह नरक न माने है ॥१४॥

Maanas Janam Dhrigu Dhanni Hai Trigad Joni , Kapat Sanayh Dayh Narak N Maanay Hai ॥14॥

Being a deceitful friend, my human life is damnable, whereas the reptilian species are worth appreciation for their love of their beloveds like the moth and fish. Because of my fraudulent love I will not even get a place in hell. (14)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ਅਤਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਕਹਤ ਨ ਆਵਈ ।

गुरमुखि सुखफल स्वाद बिसमाद अति अकथ कथा बिनोद कहत न आवई ।

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Svaad Bisamaad Ati , Akad Kadaa Binod Kahat N Aavaee ।

The spiritual happiness of a devout Sikh of Guru who meditates on Lord's name, the bliss and his spiritual happiness is wonderful beyond explanation.


ਗੁਰਮਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਗੰਧ ਪਰਮਦਭੁਤ ਸੀਤਲ ਕੋਮਲ ਪਰਸਤ ਬਨਿ ਆਵਈ ।

गुरमखि सुखफल गंध परमदभुत सीतल कोमल परसत बनि आवई ।

Gurmakhi Soukhaphal Gandh Paramadabhouta , Seetal Komal Parasat Bani Aavaee ।

The peace and joy of a Guru-conscious person diffuses wonderful fragrance. Its tranquility and softness can only be realised when it is relished. There is no limit of the divine peace and wisdom of such a Guru-oriented person. It can understood best when a Sikh becomes one with his Guru.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧ ਮਿਲਿ ਅਲਖ ਲਖਾਵਈ ।

गुरमुखि सुखफल महिमा अगाधि बोध गुर सिख संध मिलि अलख लखावई ।

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Mahimaa Agaadhi Bodha , Gur Sikh Sandh Mili Alakh Lakhaavaee ।

One who is a devout Sikh of Guru, the glory of his spiritual, knowledge gets reflected in every limb of his body umpteen times. Every hair of his body becomes alive with divine effulgence.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਅੰਗਿ ਅੰਗਿ ਕੋਟ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਤੋ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਧਾਵਈ ॥੧੫॥

गुरमुखि सुखफल अंगि अंगि कोट सोभा माइआ कै दिखावै सो तो अनत न धावई ॥१५॥

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Angi Angi Kot Sobhaa , Maaiaa Kai Dikhaavai So To Anat N Dhaavaee ॥15॥

By his grace, whosoever is shown this state of spiritual bliss, does not wander about anywhere. (15)


ਉਲਟਿ ਪਵਨ ਮਨ ਮੀਨ ਕੀ ਚਪਲ ਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੇ ਪਰਮਪਦ ਪਾਏ ਹੈ ।

उलटि पवन मन मीन की चपल गति सतिगुर परचे परमपद पाए है ।

Ulati Pavan Man Meen Kee Chapal Gati , Satigur Parachay Paramapad Paaay Hai ।

By practicing Naam Simran (meditation on Lord's name) one can turn the wind-like wayward mind into sharp and swift movement of fish. Developing association with the word of True Guru, one attains noble state.


ਸੂਰ ਸਰ ਸੋਖਿ ਪੋਖਿ ਸੋਮ ਸਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਕੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਦੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰ ਅਪੀਅ ਪਿਆਏ ਹੈ ।

सूर सर सोखि पोखि सोम सर पूरन कै बंधन दे म्रित सर अपीअ पिआए है ।

Soor Sar Sokhi Pokhi Som Sar Pooran Kai , Bandhan Day Mrit Sar Apeea Piaaay Hai ।

अजरहि जारि मारि अमरहि भ्राति छाडि असथिर कंध हंस अनत न धाए है ।

Ajarahi Jaari Maari Amarahi Bhraati Chhaadi , Asadir Kandh Hans Anat N Dhaaay Hai ।

By burning away the indestructible ego and by killing the imperishable mind, leaving all doubts and suspicions, those who stabilise their body, their life-force finds a direction.


ਆਦੈ ਆਦ ਨਾਦੈ ਨਾਦ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਿਲ ਮਿਲਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਏ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥

आदै आद नादै नाद सललै सलिल मिलि ब्रहमै ब्रहम मिलि सहज समाए है ॥१६॥

Aadai Aad Naadai Naad Salalai Salil Mili , Brahamai Braham Mili Sahaj Samaaay Hai ॥16॥

As the space merges with space, air with air and water mixes up with its source, so does the life-force integrates with the radiance of the Lord and supreme bliss is experienced. (16)


ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਨਿਰਮੋਲ ਪਾਏ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨ ਕੈ ।

चिरंकाल मानस जनम निरमोल पाए सफल जनम गुर चरन सरन कै ।

Chirankaal Maanas Janam Niramol Paaay , Sadhal Janam Gur Charan Saran Kai ।

After wandering many births, this human life is obtained. But the birth becomes successful only when one takes the refuge the holy feet of a True Guru.


ਲੋਚਨ ਅਮੋਲ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸ ਅਮੋਲ ਦੇਖੇ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਅਮੋਲ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਧਰਨ ਕੈ ।

लोचन अमोल गुर दरस अमोल देखे स्रवन अमोल गुर बचन धरन कै ।

Lochan Amol Gur Daras Amol Daykhay , Sravan Amol Gur Bachan Dharan Kai ।

Eyes are invaluable only when they see a glimpse of the Lord ugh the form of Sat guru. Ears are fruitful if they listen the precepts and command of Satguru attentively.


ਨਾਸਕਾ ਅਮੋਲ ਚਰਨਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਕੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਅਮੋਲ ਗੁਰਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੈ ।

नासका अमोल चरनारबिंद बासना कै रसना अमोल गुरमंत्र सिमरन कै ।

Naasakaa Amol Charanaarabind Baasanaa Kai , Rasanaa Amol Gurmantr Simaran Kai ।

Nostril’s are worthy only when they smell the fragrance of dust of Satguru's lotus-feet. The tongue becomes invaluable when it recites the word of the Lord given as consecration by Satguru Ji.


ਹਸਨ ਅਮੋਲ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸੇਵ ਕੈ ਸਫਲ ਚਰਨ ਅਮੋਲ ਪਰਦਛਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਕੈ ॥੧੭॥

हसन अमोल गुरदेव सेव कैसफल चरन अमोल परदछना करन कै ॥१७॥

Hasan Amol Gurdayv Sayv Kai Sadhala , Charan Amol Paradachhanaa Karan Kai ॥17॥

Hands are invaluable only when they involve in the comforting service of Satguru and feet become precious when they ever stroll about in the vicinity of Satguru. (17)


ਦਰਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿਬਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਈ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਕਟਾਛ ਦਿਬਿ ਦੇਹ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੈ ।

दरस धिआन दिबि द्रिसटि प्रगास भई करुना कटाछ दिबि देह परवान है ।

Daras Dhiaan Dibi Drisati Pragaas Bhaee , Karounaa Kataachh Dibi Dayh Paravaan Hai ।

Focusing mind on the form of True Guru, one is enlightened with celestial vision of knowledge. By the grace of True Guru, the human form acquires Godly refulgence making its coming to this world a success.


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਰਸਨਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति लिव बजर कपाट खुले प्रेम रस रसना कै अंम्रित निधान है ।

Sabad Surati Liv Bajar Kapaat Khulay , Praym Ras Rasanaa Kai Anmrit Nidhaan Hai ।

Concentrating the mind on the divine word, the rock strong doors of ignorance become ajar. The acquisition of knowledge then blesses one with the treasure of Lord's name.


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਸੁਬਾਸ ਹਸਤ ਪੂਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਨਾਮ ਸਫਲ ਸੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ ।

चरन कमल मकरंद बासना सुबास हसत पूजा प्रनाम सफल सु गिआन है ।

Charan Kamal Makarand Baasanaa Soubaasa , Hasat Poojaa Pranaam Sadhal Su Giaan Hai ।

The touching and feeling of the dust of True Guru's feet enlivens the fragrance of Lord's name in the mind. Involving the hands in His prayer and service, one is blessed with true and real spiritual knowledge.


ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਬਿਸਮ ਸ੍ਰਬੰਗ ਮੈ ਸਮਾਇ ਭਏ ਮਨ ਮਨਸਾ ਥਕਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੈ ॥੧੮॥

अंग अंग बिसम स्रबंग मै समाइ भए मन मनसा थकत ब्रहम धिआन है ॥१८॥

Ang Ang Bisam Srabang Mai Samaai Bhaay , Man Manasaa Dakat Braham Dhiaan Hai ॥18॥

Thus every hair of a person becomes glorious and he merges with the light divine. All his vices and desires end and his mind dwells in the love of Lord's feet. (18)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਅਤਿ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਮੈ ਹੇਰਤ ਹਿਰਾਨੇ ਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਬਿਸਰਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि सुखफल अति असचरज मै हेरत हिराने आन धिआन बिसराने है ।

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Ati Asacharaj Mai , Hayrat Hiraanay Aan Dhiaan Bisaraanay Hai ।

The contentment that a devout Sikh gets from meditating on His name is so mystical that he (Gursikh) forgets all other worldly pleasures.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਗੰਧ ਰਸ ਬਿਸਮ ਹੁਇ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਨ ਹਿਤਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि सुखफल गंध रस बिसम हुइ अन रस बासना बिलास न हिताने है ।

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Gandh Ras Bisam Hui , An Ras Baasanaa Bilaas N Hitaanay Hai ।

With the fragrance of spiritual peace Guru-conscious person lives in a state of bliss and forgets all other worldly enjoyments.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਅਦਭੁਤ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਅਸਥਲ ਨ ਲੁਭਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

Those who live in the conscious presence of True Guru live a state of perpetual bliss. The perishable pleasures of the destructible world entice and attract them no more


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇਖ ਆਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਭ ਨਿਰਸ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੇ ਹੈ ॥੧੯॥

गुरमुखि सुखफल संगति मिलाप देख आन गिआन धिआन सभ निरस करि जाने है ॥१९॥

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Sangati Milaap Daykha , Aan Giaan Dhiaan Sabh Niras Kari Jaanay Hai ॥19॥

In the company of spiritually elevated souls and seeing their state of ecstasy of uniting with the Lord, they consider all wisdom and attractions of the world as worthless. (19)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਦਇਆ ਕੈ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਆਨ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਦੇਖੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਾਵਈ ।

गुरमुखि सुखफल दइआ कै दिखावै जाहि ताहि आन रूप रंग देखे नाही भावई ।

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Daiaa Kai Dikhaavai Jaahi , Taahi Aan Roop Rang Daykhay Naahee Bhaavaee ।

One who is blessed by Satguru with spiritual wisdom, he does not like to see any other form or attraction. Nothing else can give tranquility and peace to such a blessed person.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਮਇਆ ਕੈ ਚਖਾਵੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਅਨਰਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਿਤਾਵਹੀ ।

गुरमुखि सुखफल मइआ कै चखावै जाहि ताहि अनरस नहीं रसना हितावही ।

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Maiaa Kai Chakhaavai Jaahi , Taahi Anaras Naheen Rasanaa Hitaavahee ।

One who is blessed with spiritual pleasure by the True Guru, he does not relish any other pleasures.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਅਗਹੁ ਗਹਾਵੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਨ ਧਾਵਈ ।

गुरमुखि सुखफल अगहु गहावै जाहि सरब निधान परसन कउ न धावई ।

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Agahu Gahaavai Jaahi , Sarab Nidhaan Parasan Kau N Dhaavaee ।

A devout Sikh who is blessed with the spiritual pleasure that no one can reach to, he need not run after other worldly relishments.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਅਲਖ ਲਖਾਵੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਵਾਹੀ ਬਨਿ ਆਵਈ ॥੨੦॥

गुरमुखि सुखफल अलख लखावै जाहि अकथ कथा बिनोद वाही बनि आवई ॥२०॥

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Alakh Lakhaavai Jaahi , Akad Kadaa Binod Vaahee Bani Aavaee ॥20॥

Only he who is blessed with self-realization (spiritual knowledge) can feel its pleasure and this cannot be explained. The devotee himself can only appreciate the pleasure of that state. (20)


ਸਿਧ ਨਾਥ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ਮੈ ਨ ਆਨ ਸਕੇ ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਨ ਜਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

सिध नाथ जोगी जोग धिआन मै न आन सके बेद पाठ करि ब्रहमादिक न जाने है ।

Sidh Naad Jogee Jog Dhiaan Mai N Aan Sakay , Bayd Paatth Kari Brahamaadik N Jaanay Hai ।

The Supreme, absolute, true Lord whom Sidhs, Yogis and Naths could not bring in their perception, who could not be known by Brahma and other deities despite contemplation of Vedas;


ਅਧਿਆਤਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਕੈ ਨ ਸਿਵ ਸਨਕਾਦਿ ਪਾਏ ਜੋਗ ਭੋਗ ਮੈ ਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

अधिआतम गिआन कै न सिव सनकादि पाए जोग भोग मै न इंद्रादिक पहिचाने है ।

Adhiaatam Giaan Kai N Siv Sanakaadi Paaay , Jog Bhog Mai N Indraadik Pahichaanay Hai ।

The Lord who could not be realised by Shiva and four sons of Brahma, nor by Indra and other such deities who resorted myriad yags and penances;


ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੈ ਸੇਖਾਦਿਕ ਨ ਸੰਖ ਜਾਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਰਜ ਨਾਰਦਾਦਕ ਹਿਰਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

नाम सिमरन कै सेखादिक न संख जानी ब्रहमचरज नारदादक हिराने है ।

Naam Simaran Kai Saykhaadik N Sankh Jaanee , Brahamacharaj Naaradaadak Hiraanay Hai ।

Whom Shesh Naag with his thousand tongues could not comprehend and speak out all names of the Lord; bewildered by His magnificence, even the celibate sage Narad gave up the search out of frustration,


ਨਾਨਾ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕੈ ਅਪਾਰ ਕੋ ਨ ਪਾਰ ਪਾਇਓ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਮਨ ਮਾਨੇ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥

नाना अवतार कै अपार को न पारपाइओ पूरन ब्रहम गुरसिख मन माने है ॥२१॥

Naanaa Avataar Kai Apaar Ko N Paar Paaiao , Pooran Braham Gursikh Man Maanay Hai ॥21॥

About the infinitude of which Lord, Vishnu in spite of manifesting in so many incarnations, could know nothing. Satguru manifests Him in the heart of his obedient devotee. (21)


ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਜਾਸੁ ਧਿਆਨ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਰਤਿ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹੈ ।

गुर उपदेस रिदै निवास निम्रता निवास जासु धिआन गुर मुरति कै पूरन ब्रहम है ।

Gur Oupadays Ridai Nivaas Nimrataa Nivaas Jaasu , Dhiaan Gur Murati Kai Pooran Braham Hai ।

The Sikh in whose heart resides the percept of Guru, and by focusing his mind in the holy feet of the Lord through Simran, the omnipresent Lord dwells in him;


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਉਨਮਾਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਸਰਬਾਤਮ ਕੈ ਸਮ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि सबद सुरति उनमान गिआन सहज सुभाइ सरबातम कै सम है ।

Gurmukhi Sabad Surati Ounamaan Giaana , Sahaj Soubhaai Sarabaatam Kai Sam Hai ।

He who lodges the holy word of the True Guru, contemplates on spiritual knowledge and in the process realises that One Supreme Lord exists in all, thus treats all as equals;


ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ਕੋ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਭਏ ਮਨ ਓਨਮਨ ਲਿਵ ਗੰਮਿਤਾ ਅਗੰਮ ਹੈ ।

हउमै तिआगि तिआगी बिसमाद को बैरागी भए मन ओनमन लिव गंमिता अगंम है ।

Haoumai Tiaagi Tiaagee Bisamaad Ko Bairaagee Bhaay , Man Aonaman Liv Ganmitaa Aganm Hai ।

He who sheds his ego and becomes an ascetic by virtue of Simran, yet live a detached worldly life; reaches the inaccessible Lord,


ਸੂਖਮ ਅਸਥੂਲ ਮੂਲ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਅਨੇਕ ਮੇਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨਮੋ ਨਮੋ ਨਮੋ ਨਮ ਹੈ ॥੨੨॥

सूखम असथूल मूल एक ही अनेक मेक जीवन मुकति नमो नमो नमो नम है ॥२२॥

Sookham Asadool Mool Ayk Hee Anayk Mayka , Jeevan Moukati Namo Namo Namo Nam Hai ॥22॥

He who recognises one Lord manifested in all things subtle and absolute; that Guru-conscious person is emancipated even when living a worldly life. (22)


ਦਰਸਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਨ ਜੋਤੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੁਇ ਪਤੰਗ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ਹੈ ।

दरसन जोति न जोती सरूप हुइ पतंग सबद सुरति म्रिग जुगति न जानी है ।

Darasan Joti N Jotee Saroop Hui Patanga , Sabad Surati Mrig Jougati N Jaanee Hai ।

Like a moth, I do not sacrifice myself over the radiant glimpse True Guru, nor do I know the method of lodging the music of True Guru's words as is the wont of a deer;


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਨ ਮਧੁਪ ਗਤਿ ਬਿਰਹ ਬਿਓਗ ਹੁਇ ਨ ਮੀਨ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਹੈ ।

चरन कमल मकरंद न मधुप गति बिरह बिओग हुइ न मीन मरि जानै है ।

Charan Kamal Makarand N Madhoup Gati , Birah Biaog Hui N Meen Mari Jaanai Hai ।

Like a bumble bee mad for the nectar of lotus flower loses his life when the flower closes, but I have not sacrificed myself unto the lotus like feet of my Satguru, nor have Known the pangs of separation from my Satguru like a fish when out of water;


ਏਕ ਏਕ ਟੇਕ ਨ ਟਰਤ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਗਦ ਜੋਨਿ ਚਾਤੁਰ ਚਤਰ ਗੁਨ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਹਿਰਾਨੈ ਹੈ ।

एक एक टेक न टरत है त्रिगद जोनि चातुर चतर गुन होइ न हिरानै है ।

Ayk Ayk Tayk N Tarat Hai Trigad Joni , Chaatur Chatar Goun Hoi N Hiraanai Hai ।

The living being of lower species do not backtrack their steps dying for their love that is based on just one virtue. But I with all my wisdom do not carry any trait like these beings, I do not sacrifice myself unto my True Guru creatures do;


ਪਾਹਨ ਕਠੋਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਮੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਮਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਮ ਨਰਕ ਲਜਾਨੈ ਹੈ ॥੨੩॥

पाहन कठोर सतिगुर सुख सागर मै सुनि मम नाम जम नरक लजानै है ॥२३॥

Paahan Katthor Satigur Soukh Saagar Mai , Souni Mam Naam Jam Narak Lajaanai Hai ॥23॥

Satguru is ocean of peace and tranquillity but I am like a stone (who is least influenced by any precept of the True Guru) despite living near Him. Hearing the name of a sinner like the messenger of hell would feel ashamed of me. (23)


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਚੰਚਲ ਅਚਲ ਭਏ ਮਹਾ ਮਲ ਮੂਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕੀਨੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि चंचल अचल भए महा मल मूत्र धारी निरमल कीने है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Chanchal Achal Bhaay , Mahaa Mal Mootr Dhaaree Niramal Keenay Hai ।

Those frolicsome persons who toil on the name of the Lord with devotion and love become peaceful and tranquil. Those who are filled with dross become neat and clean.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਕੈ ਅਜੋਨਿ ਭਏ ਕਾਲ ਸੈ ਅਕਾਲ ਕੈ ਅਮਰ ਪਦ ਦੀਨੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि जोनि कै अजोनि भए काल सै अकाल कै अमर पद दीने है ।

Those who practiced the consecration of True Guru saved themselves from the repeated births in the life of various species and achieved immortality.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਇ ਹੋਇ ਰੇਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਬੇਨੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਆਪਾ ਆਪ ਚੀਨੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि हउमै खोइ होइ रेन त्रिकुटी त्रिबेनी पारि आपा आप चीने है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Haoumai Khoi Hoi Rayna , Trikoutee Tribaynee Paari Aapaa Aap Cheenay Hai ।

Those who toil on the Naam Simran of the Lord with full devotion and love, become humble by renouncing ego and crossing all hurdles merge into Him.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਰਨ ਅਬਰਨ ਭਏ ਭੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਕੈ ਲੀਨੇ ਹੈ ॥੨੪॥

गुरमति सति करि बरन अबरन भए भै भ्रम निवारि डारि निरभै कै लीने है ॥२४॥

Gurmati Sati Kari Baran Abaran Bhaay , Bhai Bhram Nivaari Daari Nirabhai Kai Leenay Hai ॥24॥

They are free from caste, creed, race and colour-based social inequalities and becoming fearless merge with the Fearless Lord. (24)


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਧਮ ਅਸਾਧ ਸਾਧ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੰਤ ਸੰਤ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि अधम असाध साध गुरमति सति करि जंत संत नाम है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Adham Asaadh Saadha , Gurmati Sati Kari Jant Sant Naam Hai ।

By adopting and accepting the Guru's word as true and immortal, a lowly and base person can become pious. By concentrating on the precepts of Guru, even a lowly and trivial person can rise to become a holy man.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਬਿਬੇਕੀ ਹੁਇ ਬਿਬੇਕੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਮ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि अबिबेकी हुइ बिबेकी गुरमति सति करि काम निहकाम है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Abibaykee Hui Bibaykee , Gurmati Sati Kari Kaam Nihakaam Hai ।

The thoughtless and ignorant person becomes rational and considerate once he accepts the truth of Guru's wisdom. He also becomes free from all desires and wants.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਗਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਹਜ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि अगिआनी ब्रहमगिआनी गुरमति सति करि सहजबिस्राम है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Agiaanee Brahamagiaanee , Gurmati Sati Kari Sahaj Bisraam Hai ।

One who is wandering in the darkness of ignorance becomes a Brahm Gyani once he accepts the truth of Guru's wisdom and teachings. By practicing the teachings of Guru with full devotion and confidence, one reaches a state of equipoise.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਧਾਮ ਹੈ ॥੨੫॥

गुरमति सति करि जीवन मुकति भए गुरमति सति करि निहचल धाम है ॥२५॥

Gurmati Sati Kari Jeevan Moukati Bhaay , Gurmati Sati Kari Nihachal Dhaam Hai ॥25॥

By accepting Guru's teachings as true and practicing them with concentration, devotion and faith, one attains salvation when still alive and secures a place in the higher realms of the Lord. (25)


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੈਰ ਨਿਰਬੈਰ ਭਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਜਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि बैर निरबैर भए पूरन ब्रहम गुर सरब मै जाने है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Bair Nirabair Bhaay , Pooran Braham Gur Sarab Mai Jaanay Hai ।

Those who abide by Guru's teachings with faith and sincerity are without rancour. They carry no enmity for anyone because they have realised His presence in everybody.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਭੇਦ ਨਿਰਭੇਦ ਭਏ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਿਖੇਧ ਖੇਦ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि भेद निरभेद भए दुबिधा बिधि निखेध खेद बिनासने है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Bhayd Nirabhayd Bhaay , Doubidhaa Bidhi Nikhaydh Khayd Binaasanay Hai ।

Those who practice the teachings of the Guru are free from discriminatory temperament. All are alike for them. The sense of dualism and attitude of condemnation of others disappear from their mind.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਇਸ ਪਰਮਹੰਸ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਸ ਬੰਸ ਨਿਰਗੰਧ ਗੰਧ ਠਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि बाइस परमहंस गिआन अंस बंस निरगंध गंध ठाने है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Baais Paramahansa , Giaan Ans Bans Niragandh Gandh Tthaanay Hai ।

Those crow-like dross-filled persons who adopt Guru's wisdom as truth are able to shed all the dross and become clean and pious. A miniscule of spiritual knowledge help them spread the fragrance of the Lord like Sandalwood.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਭਰਮ ਖੋਏ ਆਸਾ ਮੈ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਹੁਇ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸ ਉਰ ਆਨੇ ਹੈ ॥੨੬॥

गुरमति सति करि करम भरम खोए आसा मै निरास हुइ बिस्वास उर आने है ॥२६॥

Gurmati Sati Kari Karam Bharam Khoay , Aasaa Mai Niraas Hui Bisvaas Ur Aanay Hai ॥26॥

Those who abide by the teachings of the Guru destroy all their doubts of rites and rituals. They become unattached with worldly desires and imbibe the intellect of the Guru in their hearts. (26)


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਿੰਬਲ ਸਫਲ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਂਸ ਮੈ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि सिंबल सफल भए गुरमति सति करि बांस मै सुगंध है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Sinbal Sadhal Bhaay , Gurmati Sati Kari Baans Mai Sougandh Hai ।

Those who sincerely and faithfully follow the teachings of the True Guru turn into a fruit-bearing tree from a silk cotton tree (Simbal). That is to say that they become worthy from what good for nothing they were earlier. It is like egoistic bamboo tree becoming humble and worthy.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕੰਚਨ ਭਏ ਮਨੂਰ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਖਤ ਅੰਧ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि कंचन भए मनूर गुरमति सति करि परखत अंध है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Kanchan Bhaay Manoora , Gurmati Sati Kari Parakhat Andh Hai ।

Those who toil their lives on the teachings of Guru become glittering like gold (those who are highly noble and pious) from burnt out iron sludge (useless persons). The ignorants acquire assayer intellect and become knowledgeable.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਲਕੂਟ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੁਇ ਕਾਲ ਮੈ ਅਕਾਲ ਭਏ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਕੰਧ ਹੈ ।

गुरमति सति करि कालकूट अंम्रित हुइ काल मै अकाल भए असथिर कंध है ।

Gurmati Sati Kari Kaalakoot Anmrit Hui , Kaal Mai Akaal Bhaay Asadir Kandh Hai ।

Those who imbibe Guru's teachings as true are filled with spiritual happiness shedding all the attachment with maya. They do not fear death any more and their body rests in the memory of the Lord forever.


ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਭਏ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਉਦਾਸ ਬਾਸ ਬੰਧ ਨਿਰਬੰਧ ਹੈ ॥੨੭॥

गुरमति सति करि जीवन मुकत भए माइआ मै उदास बास बंध निरबंध है ॥२७॥

Gurmati Sati Kari Jeevan Moukat Bhaay , Maaiaa Mai Udaas Baas Bandh Nirabandh Hai ॥27॥

such people are emancipated from the love and attachment of worldly pleasures despite staying and living their life-span in this world. (27)


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਸਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਰਿ ਪੂਰ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति लिव गुर सिख संध मिले ससि घरि सूरि पूर निज घरि आए है ।

Sabad Surati Liv Gur Sikh Sandh Milay , Sasi Ghari Soori Poor Nij Ghari Aaay Hai ।

The union of Guru and Sikh leads the Sikh to focus his mind on the divine word. The irha, pingla and Sukhmana enter the tenth door of the Sikh making him realise himself and granting him spiritual peace.


ਓਲਟਿ ਪਵਨ ਮਨ ਮੀਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਬੈਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਉਲੰਘਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਸਮਾਏ ਹੈ ।

ओलटि पवन मन मीन त्रिबैनी प्रसंग त्रिकुटी उलंघि सुख सागर समाए है ।

Aolati Pavan Man Meen Tribainee Prasanga , Trikoutee Ulanghi Soukh Saagar Samaaay Hai ।

Practicing Naam Simran, the frolicsome mind becomes peaceful and crossing all hurdles gets engrossed in the realm of peace and tranquillity-the Dasam Duar. They are not to bear the torments of yogic practices.


ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਨ ਅਤੀਤ ਚਤੁਰਥ ਪਦ ਗੰਮਿਤਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਝਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਅਮਿਅ ਚੁਆੲੈ ਹੈ ।

त्रिगुन अतीत चतुरथ पद गंमिता कै निझर अपार धार अमिअ चुआॲै है ।

Trigoun Ateet Chaturad Pad Ganmitaa Kai , Nijhar Apaar Dhaar Amia Chuaaeai Hai ।

A practitioner of Naam detaches himself from the three pronged influence of mammon i.e. the worldly attractions and reach the stage of absolute.


ਚਕਈ ਚਕੋਰ ਮੋਰ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਅਨੰਦਮਈ ਕਦਲੀ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਮਲ ਜਲ ਛਾਏ ਹੈ ॥੨੮॥

चकई चकोर मोर चात्रिक अनंदमई कदली कमल बिमल जल छाए है ॥२८॥

Chakaee Chakor Mor Chaatrik Anandamaee , Kadalee Kamal Bimal Jal Chhaaay Hai ॥28॥

Just as Chakvi (Sun bird) seeing sun, Chakor (moon bird) seeing moon, rain bird and peacock seeing clouds get into wondrous stage of bliss, similarly a ·Gunnukh (Guru conscious person) who practices Naam Simran keeps progressing like a lotus flower in the water. (28)


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਸੰਧ ਮਿਲੇ ਪੰਚ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਮਿਟੇ ਪੰਚ ਪਰਧਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति लिव गुरसिख संध मिले पंच परपंच मिटे पंच परधाने है ।

Sabad Surati Liv Gursikh Sandh Milay , Panch Parapanch Mitay Panch Paradhaanay Hai ।

With the meeting of Guru and Sikh, and engrossment of the latter in the divine word, he is able to counter the deceit of five vices-kam, krodh, lobh, moh and ahankar. The five virtues of Truth, Contentment, Compassion, Devotion and Patience become paramount in his life.


ਭਾਗੈ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ਭੇਦ ਕਾਲ ਅਉ ਕਰਮ ਖੇਦ ਲੋਗ ਬੇਦ ਉਲੰਘਿ ਉਦੋਤ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੇ ਹੈ ।

भागै भै भरम भेद काल अउ करम खेद लोग बेद उलंघि उदोत गुर गिआने है ।

Bhaagai Bhai Bharam Bhayd Kaal Au Karam Khayda , Log Bayd Ulanghi Udot Gur Giaanay Hai ।

All his doubts, fear and discriminatory feelings are destroyed. He is not hunted by the worldly discomforts those accrue from worldly activities.


ਮਾਇਆ ਅਉ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਮ ਦਸਮ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਾਰਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਰੁਨਝੁਨ ਬਾਜਤ ਨੀਸਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

माइआ अउ ब्रहम सम दसम दुआर पारि अनहद रुनझुन बाजतनीसाने है ।

Maaiaa Au Braham Sam Dasam Duaar Paari , Anahad Rounajhoun Baajat Neesaanay Hai ।

With his conscious awareness firmly lodged in the mystical tenth opening, the worldly attractions and Lord appears alike to him. He sees the image of the Lord in every creature of the world. And in such a state, he remains engrossed in the celestial music that he hears.


ਉਨਮਨ ਮਗਨ ਗਗਨ ਜਗਮਗ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਝਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੇ ਹੈ ॥੨੯॥

उनमन मगन गगन जगमग जोति निझर अपार धार परम निधाने है ॥२९॥

Ounaman Magan Gagan Jagamag Joti , Nijhar Apaar Dhaar Param Nidhaanay Hai ॥29॥

In such a high spiritual state, he enjoys heavenly bliss and the divine light shines in him. He is ever relishing the divine elixir of Naam. (29)


ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੁਇ ਪਾਇਓ ਨ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਬਨਿ ਬਨਵਾਸ ਨ ਉਦਾਸ ਡਲ ਪਾਇਓ ਹੈ ।

ग्रिह महि ग्रिहसती हुइ पाइओ न सहज घरि बनि बनवास न उदास डल पाइओ है ।

Grih Mahi Grihasatee Hui Paaiao N Sahaj Ghari , Bani Banavaas N Udaas Dal Paaiao Hai ।

Without Guru's teaching and all by himself a householder engrossed in all household duties cannot reach the state of oneness with Lord nor renouncing the world and living in jungles can he attain Him


ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਨ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ਸਿਧਾਸਨ ਕੈ ਨ ਨਿਜ ਆਸਨ ਦਿੜਾਇਓ ਹੈ ।

पड़ि पड़ि पंडित न अकथ कथा बिचारी सिधासन कै न निज आसन दिड़ाइओ है ।

Parhi Parhi Pandit N Akad Kadaa Bichaaree , Sidhaasan Kai N Nij Aasan Dirhaaiao Hai ।

By becoming a scholar, reading scriptures no one can become knowledgeable of the magnificence of the Lord and describe Him. Nor by doing Yogic practices can one merge in Him.


ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰਨ ਕੈ ਨਾਥਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਨ ਨਾਥ ਜਗਿ ਭੋਗ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੈ ਨ ਅਗਹੁ ਗਹਾਇਓ ਹੈ ।

जोग धिआन धारन कै नाथन देखे न नाथ जगि भोग पूजा कै न अगहु गहाइओ है ।

Jog Dhiaan Dhaaran Kai Naadan Daykhay N Naada , Jagi Bhog Poojaa Kai N Agahu Gahaaiao Hai ।

Yogis, Naths could not realise Him by their strenuous yogic practices, nor can He be attained by doing yags etc.


ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵ ਸੇਵ ਕੈ ਨ ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ਟੇਵ ਟਾਰੀ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸਮਝਾਇਓ ਹੈ ॥੩੦॥

देवी देव सेव कै न अहंमेव टेव टारी अलख अभेव गुरदेव समझाइओ है ॥३०॥

Dayvee Dayv Sayv Kai N Ahanmayv Tayv Taaree , Alakh Abhayv Gurdayv Samajhaaiao Hai ॥30॥

Serving gods and goddesses one cannot get rid of one's ego. All this worship and offerings before these gods and goddesses only inflate the ego. The Lord who is beyond reach and description can only be reached with the teachings, knowledge and wisdom of the Guru and by His Grace. (30)


ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਨ ਅਤੀਤ ਚਤੁਰਥ ਗੁਨ ਗੰਮਿਤਾ ਕੈ ਪੰਚ ਤਤ ਉਲੰਘਿ ਪਰਮ ਤਤ ਵਾਸੀ ਹੈ ।

त्रिगुन अतीत चतुरथ गुन गंमिता कै पंच तत उलंघि परम तत वासी है ।

Trigoun Ateet Chaturad Goun Ganmitaa Kai , Panch Tat Ulanghi Param Tat Vaasee Hai ।

detaching himself from the worldly attractions and the three its of maya, a Guru-conscious person acquires fourth state and discarding all adorations of the body lives in the memory the Lord.


ਖਟ ਰਸ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਭਏ ਪੂਰ ਸੁਰਿ ਸਪਤ ਅਨਹਦ ਅਭਿਆਸੀ ਹੈ ।

खट रस तिआगि प्रेम रस कउ प्रापति भए पूर सुरि सपत अनहद अभिआसी है ।

Khat Ras Tiaagi Praym Ras Kau Praapati Bhaay , Poor Suri Sapat Anahad Abhiaasee Hai ।

He is not enamoured by the tastes of worldly things, and enjoys the bliss of love of the Lord; and celestial music by keeping Him in his mind all the time


ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਂਤ ਭੇਦ ਨਾਥਨ ਕੈ ਨਾਥ ਭਏ ਦਸਮ ਸਥਲ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਬਿਲਾਸੀ ਹੈ ।

असट सिधांत भेद नाथन कै नाथ भए दसम सथल सुख सागर बिलासी है ।

Asat Sidhaant Bhayd Naadan Kai Naad Bhaay , Dasam Sadal Soukh Saagar Bilaasee Hai ।

he renunciates yog and ways of Naths and surpasses them ;all-spiritually, and reaching the ultimate, enjoys all happiness and peace.


ਉਨਮਨ ਮਗਨ ਗਗਨ ਹੁਇ ਨਿਝਰ ਝਰੈ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੇ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਹੈ ॥੩੧॥

उनमन मगन गगन हुइ निझर झरै सहज समाधि गुर परचे उदासी है ॥३१॥

Ounaman Magan Gagan Hui Nijhar Jharai , Sahaj Samaadhi Gur Parachay Udaasee Hai ॥31॥

because of his high spiritual state and residing his conscious awareness in the Dasam Duar, he gets detached from worldly things and remains in a state of bliss. (31)


ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਅਬਰਨ ਹੁਇ ਬਰਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਪਾਂਚ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਨ ਦਰਸ ਅਦਰਸ ਹੈ ।

दुबिधा निवारि अबरन हुइ बरन बिखै पांच परपंच न दरस अदरस है ।

Doubidhaa Nivaari Abaran Hui Baran Bikhai , Paanch Parapanch N Daras Adaras Hai ।

By perpetual meditation on Lord's name, a Guru-conscious person distances himself from duality and caste discrimination. He frees himself from the grip of five vices (lust, anger, greed, ego and attachment) nor does he entangle himself in the rationales or reasoning of philosophies.


ਪਰਮ ਪਾਰਸ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਸ ਭਏ ਕਨਿਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਧਾਤੁ ਆਪਾ ਅਪਰਸ ਹੈ ।

परम पारस गुर परसि पारस भए कनिक अनिक धातु आपा अपरस है ।

Param Paaras Gur Parasi Paaras Bhaay , Kanik Anik Dhaatu Aapaa Aparas Hai ।

Just as an iron piece when touched with a philosopher-stone becomes gold, similarly a devotee meeting Guru becomes a pious and a clean man.


ਨਵ ਦੁਆਰ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਾਰਿਬ੍ਰਮਾਸਨ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਮੈ ਨਿਝਰ ਝਰਨਿ ਰੁਚਤ ਨ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਹੈ ।

नव दुआर दुआर पारिब्रमासन सिंघासन मै निझर झरनि रुचत न अन रस है ।

Nav Duaar Duaar Paaribramaasan Singhaasan Mai , Nijhar Jharani Rouchat N An Ras Hai ।

Overcoming the pleasures of the nine doors of the body, he rests his faculties in the tenth door, where the divine elixir flows perpetually that turn him away from all other pleasures.


ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਬੀਸ ਇਕੀਸ ਈਸ ਅਨਹਦ ਗਦ ਗਦ ਅਭਰ ਭਰਸ ਹੈ ॥੩੨॥

गुर सिख संधि मिले बीस इकीस ईस अनहद गद गद अभर भरस है ॥३२॥

Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay Bees Ikees Eesa , Anahad Gad Gad Abhar Bharas Hai ॥32॥

Be assured that the meeting of Guru and a disciple, makes a disciple realise Lord and virtually becomes like Him. His heart then remains immersed in the celestial music. (32)

Charan Kamal Bhaji Kamal Pragaas Bhaay , Daras Daras Samadaras Dikhaaay Hai ।

By taking refuge of Sat guru's lotus feet, a devotee's mind )0 blooms like lotus flower. By the blessings of a True Guru, he treats and conducts himself alike with all and sundry. He carries no rancour for anyone.


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਲਿਵਲੀਨ ਭਏ ਓਨਮਨ ਮਗਨ ਗਗਨ ਪੁਰ ਛਾਏ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति अनहद लिवलीन भए ओनमन मगन गगन पुर छाए है ।

Sabad Surati Anahad Livaleen Bhaay , Aonaman Magan Gagan Pur Chhaaay Hai ।

Such Guru-conscious person attaches his mind in the unstruck celestial music and enjoying heavenley bliss, rests his mind in the Dasam Duar.


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਬਸਿ ਹੁਇ ਬਿਸਮ ਬਿਦੇਹ ਭਏ ਅਤਿ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਮੋ ਹੇਰਤ ਹਿਰਾਏ ਹੈ ।

प्रेम रस बसि हुइ बिसम बिदेह भए अति असचरज मो हेरत हिराए है ।

Praym Ras Basi Hui Bisam Bidayh Bhaay , Ati Asacharaj Mo Hayrat Hiraaay Hai ।

Enamoured by the love of Lord, he does not remain conscious of his body any more. This is such a wondrous state that surprises everyone.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਫਲ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਕਹਤ ਨ ਆਏ ਹੈ ॥੩੩॥

गुरमुखि सुखफल महिमाअगाधि बोधि अकथ कथा बिनोद कहत न आए है ॥३३॥

Gurmukhi Soukhaphal Mahimaa Agaadhi Bodhi , Akad Kadaa Binod Kahat N Aaay Hai ॥33॥

The spiritually ecstatic state of a Guru's disciple cannot even be praised. It is beyond contemplation and indescribable too. (33)


ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਟਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ਖੋਏ ਹੈ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਜਾਨੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ ।

दुरमति मेटि गुरमति हिरदै प्रगासी खोए है अगिआन जाने ब्रहम गिआन है ।

Duramati Mayti Gurmati Hiradai Pragaasee , Khoay Hai Agiaan Jaanay Braham Giaan Hai ।

When a disciple meets his Guru and he works hard and toil himself on his precepts, he gets rid of base intellect and divine intelligence is revealed to him. He sheds his ignorance and acquires His knowledge.


ਦਰਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਬਿਸਮਰਨ ਕੈ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮੋਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਪਰਵਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

दरस धिआन आन धिआन बिसमरन कै सबद सुरति मोनि ब्रत परवाने है ।

Daras Dhiaan Aan Dhiaan Bisamaran Kai , Sabad Surati Moni Brat Paravaanay Hai ।

By the glimpse of the True Guru and focusing his mind, he weans away his attention from worldly pleasures and concentrates the divine word in his consciousness and closes his mind from all other attractions.


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਰਸਿਕ ਹਇ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਰਹਤ ਹੁਇ ਜੋਤੀ ਮੈ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੋਹੰ ਸੁਰ ਤਾਨੇ ਹੈ ।

प्रेम रस रसिक हइ अन रस रहत हुइ जोती मै जोति सरूप सोहं सुर ताने है ।

Praym Ras Rasik Hai An Ras Rahat Hui , Jotee Mai Joti Saroop Sohan Sur Taanay Hai ।

In His love, leaving all worldly pleasures, getting absorbed in His Naam, he keeps on remembering Him all the time.


ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧ ਮਿਲੇ ਬੀਸ ਇਕੀਸ ਈਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਟੇਕ ਏਕ ਹੀਯੇ ਆਨੇ ਹੈ ॥੩੪॥

गुर सिख संध मिले बीस इकीस ईस पूरन बिबेक टेक एक हीये आने है ॥३४॥

Gur Sikh Sandh Milay Bees Ikees Eesa , Pooran Bibayk Tayk Ayk Heeyay Aanay Hai ॥34॥

Believe it for Sure that by meeting with Guru, a Guru conscious person becomes one with Lord and all his life depends on Naam Simran-an exclusive support of the Lord. (34)


ਰੋਮ ਰੋਮ ਕੋਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮਾਂਡ ਕੋ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਜਾਸੁ ਮਾਨਸ ਅਉਤਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਦਰਸ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਹੈ ।

रोम रोम कोटि ब्रहिमांड को निवास जासु मानस अउतार धार दरस दिखाए है ।

Rom Rom Koti Brahimaand Ko Nivaas Jaasu , Maanas Aoutaar Dhaar Daras Dikhaaay Hai ।

Supreme Lord, whose each hair support millions of cosmos has incarnated as Satguru in human form.


ਜਾ ਕੇ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਅਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਸ੍ਰੀਮੁਖ ਸਬਦ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਨੁ ਸੁਨਾਏ ਹੈ ।

जा के ओअंकार कै अकार है नाना प्रकार स्रीमुख सबद गुर सिखनु सुनाए है ।

Jaa Kay Aoankaar Kai Akaar Hai Naanaa Prakaara , Sreemoukh Sabad Gur Sikhanu Sounaaay Hai ।

The Omniprotector Lord who has many forms, appearing as Guru has given sermon to his disciples in person.


ਜਗ ਭੋਗ ਨਈਬੇਦ ਜਗਤ ਭਗਤ ਜਾਹਿ ਅਸਨ ਬਸਨ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਨ ਲਡਾਏ ਹੈ ।

जग भोग नईबेद जगत भगत जाहि असन बसन गुरसिखन लडाए है ।

Jag Bhog Naeebayd Jagat Bhagat Jaahi , Asan Basan Gursikhan Ladaaay Hai ।

The God for whose propitiation yags are performed, food and offerings are made, the same Lord takes the form of Guru now coddling his Sikhs by distributing food and to his disciples.


ਨਿਗਮ ਸੇਖਾਦਿ ਕਬਤ ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਰਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਨੁ ਲਖਾਏ ਹੈ ॥੩੫॥

निगम सेखादि कबत नेत नेत करि पूरम ब्रहम गुरसिखनु लखाए है ॥३५॥

Nigam Saykhaadi Kabat Nayt Nayt Kari , Pooram Braham Gursikhanu Lakhaaay Hai ॥35॥

The supreme Creator, whom Shesh Nag and others have calling by innumerable names, now manifests as Guru showing Himself to His devotees (The Sikhs). (35)


ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਸਰਗੁਨ ਕੈ ਅਲਖ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਗਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਏ ਹੈ ।

निरगुन सरगुन कै अलख अबिगत गति पूरन ब्रहम गुर रूप प्रगटाए है ।

Niragoun Saragoun Kai Alakh Abigat Gati , Pooran Braham Gur Roop Pragataaay Hai ।

The Supreme Lord whose countenance is beyond perception, who is indestructible, despite being formless took human form and revealed Himself as Guru.


ਸਰਗੁਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸ ਕੈ ਧਿਆਨ ਰੂਪ ਅਕੁਲ ਅਕਾਲ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਨੁ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਹੈ ।

सरगुन स्री गुर दरस कै धिआन रूप अकुल अकाल गुरसिखनु दिखाए है ।

Saragoun Sree Gur Daras Kai Dhiaan Roopa , Akul Akaal Gursikhanu Dikhaaay Hai ।

God in His immanent form as Satguru who is beyond all castes, creed and race make the Sikhs realise the true form of God.


ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਬਦ ਬੇਧੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਨੁ ਸੁਨਾਏ ਹੈ ।

निरगुन स्री गुर सबद अनहद धुनि सबद बेधी गुर सिखनु सुनाए है ।

Niragoun Sree Gur Sabad Anahad Dhouni , Sabad Baydhee Gur Sikhanu Sounaaay Hai ।

The heart piercing melodious tune which Satguru sings to his Sikhs is in fact manifestation of True Lord.


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ਧਾਮ ਗੁਰੁਸਿਖ ਮਧੁਕਰ ਗਤਿ ਲਪਟਾਏ ਹੈ ॥੩੬॥

चरन कमल मकरंद निहकाम धाम गुरुसिख मधुकर गति लपटाए है ॥३६॥

Charan Kamal Makarand Nihakaam Dhaama , Gurousikh Madhoukar Gati Lapataaay Hai ॥36॥

Fragrance of the dust (of the lotus feet of such Satguru) with which the Sikhs remain attached is capable of destroying all worldly desires. (36)


ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਬੇਲ ਹੁਇ ਚੰਬੇਲੀ ਗਤਿ ਮੂਲ ਸਾਖਾ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਬਿਧ ਬਿਥਾਰ ਹੈ ।

पूरन ब्रहम गुर बेल हुइ चंबेली गति मूल साखा पत्र करि बिबिध बिथार है ।

Pooran Braham Gur Bayl Hui Chanbaylee Gati , Mool Saakhaa Patr Kari Bibidh Bidaar Hai ।

Satguru, manifestation of Almighty God, is like jasmine creeper of which He Himself is the root and all His devotees and pious persons are its leaves and branches.


ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਪੁਹਪ ਸੁਬਾਸ ਨਿਜ ਰੂਪ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੁਇ ਕਰਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੋ ਉਧਾਰ ਹੈ ।

गुरसिख पुहप सुबास निज रूप ता मै प्रगट हुइ करत संसार को उधार है ।

Gursikh Puhap Soubaas Nij Roop Taa Mai , Pragat Hui Karat Sansaar Ko Udhaar Hai ।

Pleased at the services of His devotees (like Bhai Lehna Ji, Baba Amar Das Ji, etc.) Satguru turns those devotees by His grace and makes them into fragrance-spreading flowers and by manifesting in them is liberating the world.


ਤਿਲ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਸੁਬਾਸ ਕੋ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਿ ਆਪਾ ਖੋਇ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ਫੁਲੇਲ ਮਹਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।

तिल मिलि बासना सुबास को निवास करि आपा खोइ होइ है फुलेल महकार है ।

Til Mili Baasanaa Soubaas Ko Nivaas Kari , Aapaa Khoi Hoi Hai Dhulayl Mahakaar Hai ।

Just as sesame seed loses its existence and becomes scent when unites with the fragrance of the flowers, the devotees too lose themselves to the Lord through meditation and spread divine fragrance in the world.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਰਗ ਮੈ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਰੀਤਿ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਹੁਇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੩੭॥

गुरमुखिमारग मै पतित पुनीत रीति संसारी हुइ निरंकारी परउपकार है ॥३७॥

Gurmukhi Maarag Mai Patit Pouneet Reeti , Sansaaree Hui Nirankaaree Paraoupakaar Hai ॥37॥

Sikhism has a tradition of changing sinners into holy persons. And in this path, this is a very righteous task and service towards others. Those engrossed in material world are converted into God-loving and godly persons. They are detached from maya (mammon) and united with the Almighty. (37)


ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਰਖ ਬਿਥਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਮੁਨ ਕੰਦ ਸਾਖਾ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।

पूरन ब्रहम गुर बिरख बिथार धार मुन कंद साखा पत्र अनिक प्रकार है ।

Pooran Braham Gur Birakh Bidaar Dhaara , Moun Kand Saakhaa Patr Anik Prakaar Hai ।

Satguru, a total form of complete Lord is like a fragrant tree, whose spread has many branches, leaves, flowers in the form of Sikhs.


ਤਾ ਮੈ ਨਿਜ ਰੂਪ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਫਲ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਸੁਬਾਸ ਅਉ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।

ता मै निज रूप गुरसिख फल को प्रगास बासना सुबास अउ स्वाद उपकार है ।

Taa Mai Nij Roop Gursikh Dhal Ko Pragaasa , Baasanaa Soubaas Au Svaad Oupakaar Hai ।

By the strenuous toil of devoted Sikhs like Bhai Lehna Ji and Baba Amar Das Ji, the True Guru illuminated His own light in them. Engulfed in the desire of worship and fragrance of the Lord, these pious souls are keen to spread and distribute the elixir-like Naam.

Charan Kamal Makarand Ras Rasik Hui , Chaakhay Charanaamrit Sansaar Ko Udhaar Hai ।

Such Gursikhs enjoying the fragrance of the dust of Lord's lotus-feet emancipate others from the world.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਰਗ ਮਹਾਤਮ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਨੇਤਿ ਨੇਤਿ ਨੇਤਿ ਨਮੋ ਨਮੋ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੩੮॥

गुरमुखि मारग महातम अकथ कथा नेति नेति नेति नमो नमो नमसकार है ॥३८॥

Gurmukhi Maarag Mahaatam Akad Kadaa , Nayti Nayti Nayti Namo Namo Namasakaar Hai ॥38॥

The glory of the path of Sikhism cannot be described. All that we can say is that He is infinite, infinite and beyond and is worthy of our salutes myriad times. (38)


ਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਬਹੁ ਬਰਨ ਗੋਬੰਸ ਜੈਸੇ ਏਕ ਹੀ ਬਰਨ ਦੁਹੇ ਦੂਧ ਜਗ ਜਾਨੀਐ ।

बरन बरन बहु बरन गोबंस जैसे एक ही बरन दुहे दूध जग जानीऐ ।

Baran Baran Bahu Baran Gobans Jaisay , Ayk Hee Baran Duhay Doodh Jag Jaaneeai ।

Just as the cows are of many breeds and colours, yet the whole world knows that they all yield milk of the same colour.


ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਫਲ ਫੂਲ ਕੈ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਏਕੈ ਰੂਪ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਸਮਾਨੀਐ ।

अनिक प्रकार फल फूल कै बनासपती एकै रूप अगनि सरब मै समानीऐ ।

Anik Prakaar Dhal Dhool Kai Banaasapatee , Aykai Roop Agani Sarab Mai Samaaneeai ।

There are many species of fruit and flower trees but all carry the same latent fire in them.


ਚਤੁਰ ਬਰਨ ਪਾਨ ਚੂਨਾ ਅਉ ਸੁਪਾਰੀ ਕਾਥਾ ਆਪਾ ਖੋਇ ਮਿਲਤ ਅਨੂਪ ਰੂਪ ਠਾਨੀਐ ।

चतुर बरन पान चूना अउ सुपारी काथा आपा खोइ मिलत अनूप रूप ठानीऐ ।

Chatur Baran Paan Choonaa Au Soupaaree Kaadaa , Aapaa Khoi Milat Anoop Roop Tthaaneeai ।

Four different colours-beetle leaf, Supari (beetle nut), Kattha (extract of the bark of accacia) and lime shed their own colour and merge in each other in a Paan and make beautiful red colour.


ਲੋਗਨ ਮੈ ਲੋਗਾਚਾਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਉਨਮਨ ਉਨਮਾਨੀਐ ॥੩੯॥

लोगन मै लोगाचार गुरमुखि एकंकार सबद सुरति उनमन उनमानीऐ ॥३९॥

Logan Mai Logaachaar Gurmukhi Aykankaara , Sabad Surati Ounaman Ounamaaneeai ॥39॥

Similarly the Guru-conscious person (Gurmukh) renounces various worldly pleasures and adopts one colour of the formless God. And because of the blessings of his Guru who has taught him to unite with the divine word and his mind, he achieves higher spiritual state. (39)


ਸੀਂਚਤ ਸਲਿਲ ਬਹੁ ਬਰਨ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਚੰਦਨ ਸੁਬਾਸ ਏਕੈ ਚੰਦਨ ਬਖਾਨੀਐ ।

सींचत सलिल बहु बरन बनासपती चंदन सुबास एकै चंदन बखानीऐ ।

Seenchat Salil Bahu Baran Banaasapatee , Chandan Soubaas Aykai Chandan Bakhaaneeai ।

By irrigation, several kinds of plants and vegetation can be grown but when they come in touch with sandalwood they are all called sandalwood (because they have the same fragrance).


ਪਰਬਤ ਬਿਖੈ ਉਤਪਤ ਹੁਇ ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤ ਪਾਰਸ ਪਰਸਿ ਏਕੈ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੈ ਜਾਨੀਐ ।

परबत बिखै उतपत हुइ असट धात पारस परसि एकै कंचन कै जानीऐ ।

Parabat Bikhai Outapat Hui Asat Dhaata , Paaras Parasi Aykai Kanchan Kai Jaaneeai ।

Eight metals are obtained from mountain but when each one of them are touched by philosopher-stone become gold.


ਨਿਸ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਤਾਰਾ ਮੰਡਲ ਚਮਤਕਾਰ ਦਿਨ ਦਿਨਕਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਏਕੈ ਪਰਵਾਨੀਐ ।

निस अंधकार तारा मंडल चमतकार दिन दिनकर जोति एकै परवानीऐ ।

Nis Andhakaar Taaraa Mandal Chamatakaara , Din Dinakar Joti Aykai Paravaaneeai ।

In the darkness of the night, many stars shine but during the day, the light of one Sun alone is considered authentic.


ਲੋਗਨ ਮੈ ਲੋਗਾਚਾਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਉਨਮਨ ਉਨਮਾਨੀਐ ॥੪੦॥

लोगन मै लोगाचार गुरमुखि एकंकार सबद सुरति उनमन उनमानीऐ ॥४०॥

Logan Mai Logaachaar Gurmukhi Aykankaara , Sabad Surati Ounaman Ounamaaneeai ॥40॥

Similarly a Sikh who lives life according to the advice of his Guru becomes divine in all respects, even when he is living life as a worldly person. Due to the lodging of the divine word in his mind, he is known to be living in heavenly state. (40)


ਜੈਸੇ ਕੁਲਾ ਬਧੂ ਗੁਰ ਜਨ ਮੈ ਘੂਘਟ ਪਟ ਸਿਹਜਾ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਸਮੈ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨ ਪੀਅ ਸੈ ।

जैसे कुला बधू गुर जन मै घूघट पट सिहजा संजोग समै अंतरु न पीअ सै ।

Jaisay Kulaa Badhoo Gur Jan Mai Ghooghat Pata , Sihajaa Sanjog Samai Antaru N Peea Sai ।

Just as a daughter-in-law covers herself with veil in front of the elders of the house, but keeps no distance from her husband at the time of sharing his bed;


ਜੈਸੇ ਮਣਿ ਅਛਤ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਹੀ ਸਹਿਤ ਅਹਿ ਬੰਕ ਤਨ ਸੂਧੋ ਬਿਲ ਪੈਸਤ ਹੁਇ ਜੀਅ ਸੈ ।

जैसे मणि अछत कुटंब ही सहित अहि बंक तन सूधो बिल पैसत हुइ जीअ सै ।

Jaisay Mani Achhat Koutanb Hee Sahit Ahi , Bank Tan Soodho Bil Paisat Hui Jeea Sai ।

Just as a snake remains crooked when with female snake and his family, but becomes straight when it enters in the burrow;


ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਅਛਤ ਨ ਬੋਲੈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੈ ਪਾਛੇ ਕੈ ਦੈ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਤ ਤੀਅ ਸੈ ।

माता पिता अछत न बोलै सुत बनिता सै पाछे कै दै सरबसु मोह सुत तीअ सै ।

Maataa Pitaa Achhat N Bolai Sout Banitaa Sai , Paachhay Kai Dai Sarabasu Moh Sout Teea Sai ।

Just as a son avoids talking to his wife in front of his parents, but when alone showers all his love upon her,


ਲੋਗਨ ਮੈ ਲੋਗਾਚਾਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਉਨਮਨ ਮਨ ਹੀਅ ਸੈ ॥੪੧॥

लोगन मै लोगाचारगुरमुखि एकंकार सबद सुरति उनमन मन हीअ सै ॥४१॥

Logan Mai Logaachaar Gurmukhi Aykankaara , Sabad Surati Ounaman Man Heea Sai ॥41॥

Similarly a devoted Sikh appears worldly among others but having attached his mind with Guru's word, he rises spiritually and realises the Lord. Quintessence: One may maintain oneself as a worldly person outwardly but inwardly one keeps oneself attached with Naam and attains divine bliss. (41)


ਜੋਗ ਬਿਖੈ ਭੋਗ ਅਰੁ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਖੈ ਜੋਗ ਜਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੰਥ ਜੋਗ ਭੋਗ ਸੈ ਅਤੀਤ ਹੈ ।

जोग बिखै भोग अरु भोग बिखै जोग जत गुरमुखि पंथ जोग भोग सै अतीत है ।

Jog Bikhai Bhog Aru Bhog Bikhai Jog Jata , Gurmukhi Pand Jog Bhog Sai Ateet Hai ।

Where yogic practitioners have innate desire for worldly relishments and the worldly people desire to become yogi, but those treading the path of Guru maintain a very different and unique desire in their hearts than the yogis.


ਗਿਆਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਧਿਆਨ ਅਰੁ ਧਿਆਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਬੇਧੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਕੈ ਅਜੀਤ ਹੈ ।

गिआन बिखै धिआन अरु धिआन बिखै बेधे गिआन गुरमति गति गिआन धिआन कै अजीत है ।

Giaan Bikhai Dhiaan Aru Dhiaan Bikhai Baydhay Giaana , Gurmati Gati Giaan Dhiaan Kai Ajeet Hai ।

Those following the path of Gyan (knowledge) keep their mind focused on contemplation while those in contemplation are wandering for Gyan. But the state of a person treading the path of his Guru is above those persons who are pursuing Gyan or Dhyan (contemplation).


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਅਰੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੇਮ ਅਲਖ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ।

प्रेम कै भगति अरु भगति कै प्रेम नेम अलख भगति प्रेम गुरमुखि रीति है ।

Praym Kai Bhagati Aru Bhagati Kai Praym Nayma , Alakh Bhagati Praym Gurmukhi Reeti Hai ।

Followers of path of love yearn for devotion and those on path of devotion desire love, but the innate desire of Guru-conscious person is to remain engrossed in loving worship of God.


ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਸਰਗੁਨ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਸਮ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਿਸਮ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸ ਪਾਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤਿ ਹੈ ॥੪੨॥

निरगुन सरगुन बिखै बिसम बिस्वास रिदै बिसम बिस्वास पारि पूरन प्रतीति है ॥४२॥

Niragoun Saragoun Bikhai Bisam Bisvaas Ridai , Bisam Bisvaas Paari Pooran Prateeti Hai ॥42॥

Many seekers hold a faith on the worship of Transcendental Lord while others hold a strange view of worship of God. Perhaps their belief and understanding is half baked. But the disciples of Guru hold their faith on the Lord much above these strange devotions and beliefs. It is absolute. (42)


ਕਿੰਚਤ ਕਟਾਛ ਦਿਬਿ ਦੇਹ ਦਿਬਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਹੁਇ ਦਿਬਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਕੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਦਿਬਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਤ ਕੈ ।

किंचत कटाछ दिबि देह दिबि द्रिसटि हुइ दिबि जोति को धिआनु दिबि द्रिसटात कै ।

Kinchat Kataachh Dibi Dayh Dibi Drisati Hui , Dibi Joti Ko Dhiaanu Dibi Drisataat Kai ।

With just a miniscule of clement look of Satguru, the body and looks of a disciple of the Guru become divine. He then starts seeing the presence of the Lord all around him.


ਸਬਦ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਟੇਕ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੁਇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਗੰਮਿ ਉਨਮਨੀ ਕੋ ਮਤਾਤ ਕੈ ।

सबद बिबेक टेक प्रगट हुइ गुरमति अनहद गंमि उनमनी को मतात कै ।

Sabad Bibayk Tayk Pragat Hui Gurmati , Anahad Ganmi Ounamanee Ko Mataat Kai ।

By meditating on Gur Shabad (Guru's Word) and taking its refuge, Guru's precepts are revealed to him. When he reaches the state of listening to unstruck melody of the divine word, he enjoys the bliss of higher state of equipoise.


ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਨੀ ਕੈ ਉਪਜਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੇਮ ਨਿਜ ਕ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਕੈ ।

गिआन धिआन करनी कै उपजत प्रेम रसु गुरमुखि सुख प्रेम नेम निज क्राति कै ।

Giaan Dhiaan Karanee Kai Oupajat Praym Rasu , Gurmukhi Soukh Praym Naym Nij Kraati Kai ।

Concentrating on the knowledge of the True Guru, listening to his counsel, practicing contemplation and living life according to His command, a feeling of love grows and blossoms. And in living this life of love, a Guru-conscious person realises the radiance of his self by the divine enlightenment.


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਦਲ ਸੰਪਟ ਮਧੁਪ ਗਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਮਧ ਪਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਕੈ ॥੪੩॥

चरन कमल दल संपट मधुप गति सहज समाधि मध पान प्रान सांति कै ॥४३॥

Charan Kamal Dal Sanpat Madhoup Gati , Sahaj Samaadhi Madh Paan Praan Saanti Kai ॥43॥

As the bumble bee attains the divine bliss by drinking the elixir and getting shut in the box-like petals of a lotus flower, similarly in order to provide spiritual peace to his life, a true seeker enjoins the lotus-like feet of Guru and drinks deep by contemplating on Naam. (43)


ਸੂਆ ਗਹਿ ਨਲਿਨੀ ਕਉ ਉਲਟਿ ਗਹਾਵੈ ਆਪੁ ਹਾਥ ਸੈ ਛਡਾਏ ਛਾਡੈ ਪਰ ਬਸਿ ਆਵਈ ।

सूआ गहि नलिनी कउ उलटि गहावै आपु हाथ सै छडाए छाडै पर बसि आवई ।

Sooaa Gahi Nalinee Kau Ulati Gahaavai Aapu , Haad Sai Chhadaaay Chhaadai Par Basi Aavaee ।

A parrot catcher fixes a rotating pipe/tube on which a parrot comes and sits. The pipe rotates and the parrot hangs upside down. He does not let go the pipe. The parrot catcher then comes and frees his claws. Thus he becomes a slave.


ਤੈਸੇ ਬਾਰੰਬਾਰ ਟੇਰਿ ਟੇਰਿ ਕਹੇ ਪਟੇ ਪਟੇ ਆਪਨੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਓ ਸੀਖਿ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੜਾਈ ।

तैसे बारंबार टेरि टेरि कहे पटे पटे आपने ही नाओ सीखि आप ही पड़ाई ।

Taisay Baaranbaar Tayri Tayri Kahay Patay Patay , Aapanay Hee Naaao Seekhi Aap Hee Parhaaee ।

As the parrot is trained and taught to say words, he repeatedly speak those words. He learns to speak his own name and he teaches it to others as well.


ਰਘੁਬੰਸੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਗਾਲ ਜਾਮਨੀ ਸੁ ਭਾਖ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਗਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਈ ।

रघुबंसी राम नामु गाल जामनी सु भाख संगति सुभाव गति बुधि प्रगटावई ।

Raghoubansee Raam Naamu Gaal Jaamanee Su Bhaakha , Sangati Soubhaav Gati Budhi Pragataavaee ।

A parrot learns to pronounce the name of Ram from the devotees of Ram. From the wicked and unrighteous, he learns bad names. In the company of Greeks, he learns their language. He develops his intellect according to the company he keeps.


ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗ ਮਿਲੇ ਆਪਾ ਆਪੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਈ ॥੪੪॥

तैसे गुर चरन सरनि साध संग मिले आपा आपु चीनि गुरमुखि सुख पावई ॥४४॥

Taisay Gur Charan Sarani Saadh Sang Milay , Aapaa Aapu Cheeni Gurmukhi Soukh Paavaee ॥44॥

Similarly in the company of holy men, and taking the refuge of the lotus-like feet of the Satguru, the Sikh in attendance of his Guru realises his self and enjoys the true bliss and peace. (44)


ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮੈ ਦਰਸ ਦਰਸ ਮੈ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਰਸ ਅਦਰਸ ਗੁਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੈ ।

द्रिसटि मै दरस दरस मै द्रिसटि द्रिग द्रिसटि दरस अदरस गुर धिआन है ।

Drisati Mai Daras Daras Mai Drisati Driga , Drisati Daras Adaras Gur Dhiaan Hai ।

In the vision of Guru-conscious persons rests the image of the True Guru, and in the eyes of the True Guru, rests the glimpse of the disciple. Because of this attention of Satguru, these disciples keep away from the worldly attractions.


ਸਬਦ ਮਹ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਹ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਅਗਮਿਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ ।

सबद मह सुरति सुरति मह सबद धुनि सबद सुरति अगमिति गुर गिआन है ।

Sabad Mah Surati Surati Mah Sabad Dhouni , Sabad Surati Agamiti Gur Giaan Hai ।

They remain engrossed in the words of the Guru and the tune of these words remain lodged in their consciousness. But the knowledge of word and consciousness is beyond reach.


ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਨੀ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੇਮ ਨਿਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ ।

गिआन धिआन करनीकै प्रगटत प्रेम रसु गुरमति गति प्रेम नेम निरबान है ।

Giaan Dhiaan Karanee Kai Pragatat Praym Rasu , Gurmati Gati Praym Naym Nirabaan Hai ।

By following the teachings of the True Guru and moulding one's character in accordance with the contemplation of Lord's qualities, a sense of love develops. The well defined routine of Guru's philosophy, leads one to free oneself from the worldly shackles


ਪਿੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਬੀਸ ਕੋ ਬਰਤਮਾਨ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਇਕ ਈਸ ਮੋ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੪੫॥

पिंड प्रान प्रानपति बीस को बरतमान गुरमुख सुख इक ईस मो निधान है ॥४५॥

Pind Praan Praanapati Bees Ko Baratamaana , Gurmoukh Soukh Ik Ees Mo Nidhaan Hai ॥45॥

Living life in the world, a Guru-conscious person always believes that his life belongs to the Master of Life-God. Remaining engrossed in One Lord is the wealth of happiness of the Guru-conscious persons. (45)


ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਹੁਇ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਭਏ ਸਹਜ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਕੈ ਅਬਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਰਾਜ ਹੈ ।

मन बच क्रम हुइ इकत्र छत्रपति भए सहज सिंघासन कै अबि निहचल राज है ।

Man Bach Kram Hui Ikatr Chhatrapati Bhaay , Sahaj Singhaasan Kai Abi Nihachal Raaj Hai ।

A Guru-conscious person feels like a mighty king when he is able to concentrate his mind on words and acts as per the teachings of Gum. When he is able to rest in a state of equipoise, he feels like an emperor of infallible kingdom.


ਸਤ ਅਉ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮ ਅਰਥ ਮੇਲਿ ਪੰਚ ਪਰਵਾਨ ਕੀਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਜ ਹੈ ।

सत अउ संतोख दइआ धरम अरथ मेलि पंच परवान कीए गुरमति साज है ।

Sat Au Santokh Daiaa Dharam Arad Mayli , Panch Paravaan Keeay Gurmati Saaj Hai ।

By imbibing the five virtues of Truth, Contentment, Compassion, Righteousness and Purpose in accordance with the teachings of the Gum, he becomes acceptable and an honourable person.


ਸਕਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਉ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਸਿਵ ਨਗਰੀ ਸੁਬਾਸ ਕੋਟਿ ਛਬਿ ਛਾਜ ਹੈ ।

सकल पदारथ अउ सरब निधान सभा सिव नगरी सुबास कोटि छबि छाज है ।

Sakal Padaarad Au Sarab Nidhaan Sabhaa , Siv Nagaree Soubaas Koti Chhabi Chhaaj Hai ।

All materials and worldly treasures are his. The divine abode of Dasam Duar is his fort where the continuous presence of melodious Naam makes him a unique and glorious person.


ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿ ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਰਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੁਖੈ ਸੁਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਸਫਲ ਸਬ ਕਾਜ ਹੈ ॥੪੬॥

राजनीति रीति प्रीति परजा कै सुखै सुख पूरन मनोरथ सफल सब काज है ॥४६॥

Raajaneeti Reeti Preeti Parajaa Kai Soukhai Soukha , Pooran Manorad Sadhal Sab Kaaj Hai ॥46॥

The loving and affectionate treatment of such a king-like disciple of the True Guru with other human beings is his statesmanship that spreads happiness, peace and success all around him. (46)


ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਹੁਇ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਗੰਮਿਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਨ ਸੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ ।

चरन सरनि मन बच क्रम हुइ इकत्र गंमिता त्रिकाल त्रिभवन सुधि पाई है ।

Charan Sarani Man Bach Kram Hui Ikatra , Ganmitaa Trikaal Tribhavan Sudhi Paaee Hai ।

When a Guru-conscious person achieves harmony with his mind, words and actions, and by the blessings of the refuge of True Guru, he acquires knowledge of times and the three worlds.


ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਾਧਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਕਥਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਨਿਰੰਤਰੀ ਜਤਾਈ ਹੈ ।

सहज समाधि साधि अगम अगाधि कथा अंतरि दिसंतर निरंतरी जताई है ।

Sahaj Samaadhi Saadhi Agam Agaadhi Kadaa , Antari Disantar Nirantaree Jataaee Hai ।

By practicing on Naam, a Guru-conscious person lives in a state of equipoise. Any description of that state is beyond our comprehension. It is indescribable. By dint of that state, he becomes aware of all that is happening in every nook and corner of the world.


ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਪਿੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੋਹੰ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੈ ।

खंड ब्रहमंड पिंड प्रान प्रानपति गति गुर सिख संधि मिले सोहं लिव लाई है ।

Khand Brahamand Pind Praan Praanapati Gati , Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay Sohan Liv Laaee Hai ।

By the union of Guru and Sikh, the seeker feels the presence of the Lord of Cosmos in his body and his life-giving support; and when he achieves oneness with God, he remains engrossed in the memory of Lord.


ਦਰਪਨ ਦਰਸ ਅਉ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਧਨਿ ਜੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਓਤ ਪੋਤਿ ਸੂਤੁ ਏਕੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਿਟਾਈ ਹੈ ॥੪੭॥

दरपन दरस अउ जंत्र धनि जंत्री बिधि ओत पोति सूतु एकै दुबिधा मिटाई है ॥४७॥

Darapan Daras Au Jantr Dhani Jantree Bidhi , Aot Poti Sootu Aykai Doubidhaa Mitaaee Hai ॥47॥

As the mirror and image in it, music and the musical instrument, waft and woof of a cloth are all part of each other and inseparable, so does the Guru-conscious person becomes one with God and is freed of all doubts of duality. (47)


ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਹੁਇ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਅਲਖ ਲਖਾਈ ਹੈ ।

चरन सरनि मन बच क्रम हुइ इकत्र तन त्रिभवन गति अलख लखाई है ।

Charan Sarani Man Bach Kram Hui Ikatr Tana , Tribhavan Gati Alakh Lakhaaee Hai ।

Because of the refuge of True Guru and moulding his mind, words and actions as per His teachings, a Guru-conscious person learns the happenings of the three worlds innately. He recognises the true Lord residing within.


ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਮਨ ਬਚਨ ਕੈ ਬਚਨ ਕਰਮ ਮਨ ਉਨਮਨੀ ਛਾਈ ਹੈ ।

मन बच करम करम मन बचन कै बचन करम मन उनमनी छाई है ।

Man Bach Karam Karam Man Bachan Kai , Bachan Karam Man Ounamanee Chhaaee Hai ।

With the harmony of actions, mind and words, the thoughts of the mind, the utterance of the words and actions performed are influenced.


ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਜਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਮਹੂਆ ਕਮਾਦਿ ਨਿਝਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਭਾਠੀ ਕੈ ਚੁਆਈ ਹੈ ।

गिआनी धिआनी करनी जिउ गुर महूआ कमादि निझर अपार धार भाठी कै चुआई है ।

Giaanee Dhiaanee Karanee Jiu Gur Mahooaa Kamaadi , Nijhar Apaar Dhaar Bhaatthee Kai Chuaaee Hai ।

As wine is brewed from jaggery, sugarcane and Madhuca Indica flowers, so does a Guru-conscious person obtain the unique flow of elixir of Naam when knowledge and concentration of mind are performed by him.


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪਾਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੁਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੈ ॥੪੮॥

प्रेम रस अंम्रित निधान पान पूरन हुइ गुरमुखि संधि मिले सहज समाई है ॥४८॥

Praym Ras Anmrit Nidhaan Paan Pooran Hui , Gurmukhi Sandhi Milay Sahaj Samaaee Hai ॥48॥

Guru-conscious person satiates himself by drinking deep the loving elixir of Lord's name and by his union with the divine word of the True Guru, he resides in a state of equipoise. (48)


ਬਿਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਰਖ ਬਲੀ ਫਲ ਫੂਲ ਮੂਲ ਸਾਖਾ ਰਚਨ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।

बिबिधि बिरख बली फल फूल मूल साखा रचन चरित्र चित्र अनिक प्रकार है ।

Bibidhi Birakh Balee Dhal Dhool Mool Saakhaa , Rachan Charitr Chitr Anik Prakaar Hai ।

The vegetation is seen in many forms like trees, creepers, fruit, flowers, roots and branches. This beautiful creation of the Lord unfolds itself in many forms of wonderful artistic skills.


ਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਫਲ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਰਸ ਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਫੂਲ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਬਿਥਾਰ ਹੈ ।

बरन बरन फल बहु बिधि स्वाद रस बरन बरन फूलबासना बिथार है ।

Baran Baran Dhal Bahu Bidhi Svaad Rasa , Baran Baran Dhool Baasanaa Bidaar Hai ।

These trees and creepers bear fruits of different tastes and flavour, flowers of myriad shape and colour. All of them spread various types of fragrance.


ਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਮੂਲ ਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਸਾਖਾ ਬਰਨ ਬਰਨ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਗਨ ਅਚਾਰ ਹੈ ।

बरन बरन मूल बरन बरन साखा बरन बरन पत्र सुगन अचार है ।

Baran Baran Mool Baran Baran Saakhaa , Baran Baran Patr Sougan Achaar Hai ।

The trunks of the trees and creepers, their branches and leaves are of many kind and each leaves a different effect.


ਬਿਬਿਧਿ ਬਨਾਸਪਤਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਸਕਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਏਕੈ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੪੯॥

बिबिधि बनासपति अंतरि अगनि जैसे सकल संसार बिखै एकै एकंकार है ॥४९॥

Bibidhi Banaasapati Antari Agani Jaisay , Sakal Sansaar Bikhai Aykai Aykankaar Hai ॥49॥

As the latent fire in all these types of vegetation is the same, so do the God-loving persons find One Lord dwelling in the hearts of all the living beings in this world. (49)


ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਰਸ ਲਿਵ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੈ ।

Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay Drisati Daras Liva , Gurmukhi Braham Giaan Dhiaan Liv Laaee Hai ।

When the devoted Guru-conscious person becomes one with the True form of the True Lord, his vision enjoins the holy sight of Guru. He who practices meditation on Lord's name remains attached with the words of wisdom of the True Guru.

Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay Sabad Surati Liva , Gurmukhi Braham Giaan Dhiaan Sudhi Paaee Hai ।

By the union of True Guru and his disciple (Gursikh) the disciple obeys the command of his Guru very sincerely and faithfully. By meditating on the Lord, he learns to reflect on the True Guru.


ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਮੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੁਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ਕਰਨੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੈ ।

गुर सिख संधि मिले स्वामी सेवक हुइ गुरमुखि निहकाम करनी कमाई है ।

Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay Svaamee Sayvak Hui , Gurmukhi Nihakaam Karanee Kamaaee Hai ।

Thus union of a disciple with Guru imbibes the trait of service of the Master. He serves all without reward or desire as he has learnt that he is serving Him who resides in all.


ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਕਰਨੀ ਸੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੇਮ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੈ ॥੫੦॥

गुर सिख संधि मिले करनी सु गिआन धिआन गुरमुखि प्रेम नेम सहज समाई है ॥५०॥

Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay Karanee Su Giaan Dhiaana , Gurmukhi Praym Naym Sahaj Samaaee Hai ॥50॥

Such a person emerges as a person with ideal actions by virtue of the meditation and reflection on Lord. In the process, he attains equipoise and remains engrossed in it. (50)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਆਕਾਰ ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि संधि मिले ब्रहम धिआन लिव एकंकार कै आकार अनिक प्रकार है ।

Gurmukhi Sandhi Milay Braham Dhiaan Liva , Aykankaar Kai Aakaar Anik Prakaar Hai ।

When a Guru-conscious person lives in harmony with his Guru, his mind is absorbed in the remembrance of God. He then realises that all forms are actually His forms.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਬਿਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਥਾਰ ਹੈ ।

Gurmukhi Sandhi Milay Braham Giaan Liva , Nirankaar Aoankaar Bibidhi Bidaar Hai ।

And when he establishes his relationship with Him, he realises through the medium of meditation on His name that Formless Lord has manifested Himself in various forms and shapes.

Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay Svaamee Sayv Sayvak Hui , Braham Bibayk Praym Bhagati Achaar Hai ।

The union of a devoted Sikh with True Guru renders him with an attitude of service and benevolence and he yearns to be available at His service. He then develops character of loving devotion and divine reflection.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਰਮਦਭੁਤ ਗਤਿ ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਨਮੋ ਨਮੋ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੫੧॥

गुरमुखि संध मिले परमदभुत गति नेत नेत नेत नमो नमो नमसकार है ॥५१॥

Gurmukhi Sandh Milay Paramadabhout Gati , Nayt Nayt Nayt Namo Namo Namasakaar Hai ॥51॥

The state of union of a God-conscious person and his True Guru is glorious and full of astonishment. No other state can equal it. He is worthy of salutation infinite time, again and again. (51)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕਰਮ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਭਏ ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਬਿਸਮ ਸ੍ਰਬੰਗ ਮੈ ਸਮਾਏ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि मन बच करम इकत्र भए अंग अंग बिसम स्रबंग मै समाए है ।

Gurmukhi Man Bach Karam Ikatr Bhaay , Ang Ang Bisam Srabang Mai Samaaay Hai ।

By practicing the teachings of Guru with mind, words and action, the devoted Sikh in attendance keeps every limb of his body in the memory of blissful Omnipresent Lord all the time.


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪਾਨ ਕੇ ਮਦੋਨ ਰਸਨਾ ਥਕਤ ਭਈ ਕਹਿਤ ਨ ਆਏ ਹੈ ।

प्रेम रस अंम्रित निधान पान के मदोन रसना थकत भई कहित न आए है ।

Praym Ras Anmrit Nidhaan Paan Kay Madona , Rasanaa Dakat Bhaee Kahit N Aaay Hai ।

He remains in a state of trance by drinking the loving elixir of Naam: He relishes not any other pleasure of life anymore.


ਜਗਮਗ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਮੈ ਲੋਚਨ ਚਕਤ ਭਏ ਹੇਰਤ ਹਿਰਾਏ ਹੈ ।

जगमग प्रेम जोति अति असचरज मै लोचन चकत भए हेरत हिराए है ।

Jagamag Praym Joti Ati Asacharaj Mai , Lochan Chakat Bhaay Hayrat Hiraaay Hai ।

The wonderful elixir that has caused him to live such a celestial state of trance is indescribable.


ਰਾਗ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਦ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਧੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬਿਲੈ ਬਿਲੈ ਬਿਲਾਏ ਹੈ ॥੫੨॥

राग नाद बाद बिसमाद प्रेम धुनि सुनि स्रवन सुरति बिलै बिलै बिलाए है ॥५२॥

Raag Naad Baad Bisamaad Praym Dhouni Souni , Sravan Surati Bilai Bilai Bilaaay Hai ॥52॥

The radiance of love for Naam Simran exists in him a strange form that surprises all the beholders. (52)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕਰਮ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਭਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਪਦ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਏ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि मन बच करम इकत्र भए पूरन परमपद प्रेम प्रगटाए है ।

Gurmukhi Man Bach Karam Ikatr Bhaay , Pooran Paramapad Praym Pragataaay Hai ।

By virtue of the harmonious state of mind, words and actions, a Guru's disciple who is blessed with the loving elixir of Naam Simran, reaches a highly conscious state.


ਲੋਚਨ ਮੈ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਰਸ ਰਸ ਗੰਧ ਸੰਧਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸਬਦ ਸ੍ਰੁਤਿ ਗੰਧ ਰਸ ਪਾਏ ਹੈ ।

लोचन मैद्रिसटि दरस रस गंध संधि स्रवन सबद स्रुति गंध रस पाए है ।

Lochan Mai Drisati Daras Ras Gandh Sandhi , Sravan Sabad Srouti Gandh Ras Paaay Hai ।

By virtue of the fragrance of Naam relishment, he is blessed with True Guru-like glimpse. His ears perpetually hear His celestial music.


ਰਸਨਾ ਮੈ ਰਸ ਗੰਧ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮੇਲ

रसना मै रस गंध सबद सुरति मेल

Rasanaa Mai Ras Gandh Sabad Surati Mayla

This harmonious integration of word and consciousness renders his tongue to be sweet and comfort-giving.


ਨਾਸ ਬਾਸੁ ਰਸ ਸ੍ਰੁਤਿ ਸਬਦ ਲਖਾਏ ਹੈ

नास बासु रस स्रुति सबद लखाए है

Naas Baasu Ras Srouti Sabad Lakhaaay Hai

The exhaling of his breath too is fragrant and reflects his high state of harmonious relationship between his mental faculties and Naam.


ਰੋਮ ਰੋਮ ਰਸਨਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਨਾਸਾ ਕੋਟਿ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਪਿੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮੈ ਜਤਾਏ ਹੈ ॥੫੩॥

रोम रोम रसना स्रवन द्रिग नासा कोटि खंड ब्रहमंड पिंड प्रान मै जताए है ॥५३॥

Rom Rom Rasanaa Sravan Drig Naasaa Koti , Khand Brahamand Pind Praan Mai Jataaay Hai ॥53॥

Thus by perpetual meditation on Him, with the relishing fragrance of Lord's name residing on his tongue, eyes, ears and nostrils, a Guru-conscious person realises the presence of Lord who abides in millions cosmoses within himself. (53)


ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਆਪ ਆਪਨ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਸਾਜਿ ਆਪਨ ਰਚਿਓ ਹੈ ਨਾਉ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ਕੈ ।

पूरन ब्रहम आप आपन ही आपि साजि आपन रचिओ है नाउ आपि है बिचारि कै ।

Pooran Braham Aap Aapan Hee Aapi Saaji , Aapan Rachiao Hai Naau Aapi Hai Bichaari Kai ।

Omniscient and Omnipotent God Himself has created His own form and has named Himself as (Guru) Nanak.


ਆਦਿ ਗੁਰ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕਹਾਇਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਕਾਰ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਕੈ ।

आदि गुर दुतीआ गोबिंद कहाइउ गुरमुख रचना अकार ओअंकार कै ।

Aadi Gur Douteeaa Gobind Kahaaiu , Gurmoukh Rachanaa Akaar Aoankaar Kai ।

The second name that He called Himself is Gobind. The transcendental Lord took the immanent form to appear as the first Guru.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦ ਬੇਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਭੇਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲੀਲਾਧਾਰੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਅਉਤਾਰ ਕੈ ।

गुरमुखि नाद बेद गुरमुखि पावै भेद गुरमुखि लीलाधारी अनिक अउतार कै ।

Gurmukhi Naad Bayd Gurmukhi Paavai Bhayda , Gurmukhi Leelaadhaaree Anik Aoutaar Kai ।

Lord Himself is the precept of Vedas and He Himself knows all the secrets that lie therein. Lord Himself has created this wonderful act and is manifesting in many forms and bodies


ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਅਓ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਰ ਏਕਮੇਕ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਸੂਤ੍ਰ ਗਤਿ ਅੰਬਰ ਉਚਾਰ ਕੈ ॥੫੪॥

गुर गोबिंद अओ गोबिंद गुर एकमेक ओति पोति सूत्र गति अंबर उचार कै ॥५४॥

Gur Gobind Aao Gobind Gur Aykamayka , Aoti Poti Sootr Gati Anbar Ouchaar Kai ॥54॥

Like waft and woof of a cloth, both Guru and Gobind (God) are not different to each other. (54)


ਜੈਸੇ ਬੀਜ ਬੋਇ ਹੋਤ ਬਿਰਖ ਬਿਥਾਰ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।

जैसे बीज बोइ होत बिरख बिथार गुर पूरन ब्रहम निरंकार एकंकार है ।

Jaisay Beej Boi Hot Birakh Bidaar Gur , Pooran Braham Nirankaar Aykankaar Hai ।

As the seed sown develops into a tree and with time it expands, so has a True Guru emerged out of the one divine form of the all knowing, all powerful, Omnipotent God.


ਜੈਸੇ ਏਕ ਬਿਰਖ ਸੈ ਹੋਤ ਹੈ ਅਨੇਕ ਫਲ ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਅਕਾਰ ਹੈ ।

जैसे एक बिरख सै होत है अनेक फल तैसे गुर सिख साध संगति अकार है ।

Jaisay Ayk Birakh Sai Hot Hai Anayk Dhala , Taisay Gur Sikh Saadh Sangati Akaar Hai ।

As a tree yields countless fruits, so is the gathering of many disciples (Gursikhs) of the True Guru.


ਦਰਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਗਿਆਨ ਗੁਰ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਸਰਗੁਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਹੈ ।

दरस धिआन गुर सबद गिआन गुर निरगुन सरगुन ब्रहम बीचार है ।

Daras Dhiaan Gur Sabad Giaan Gur , Niragoun Saragoun Braham Beechaar Hai ।

Focusing mind on the holy form of True Guru who is the immanent manifestation of Lord, his percepts in the shape of word, its contemplation and understanding of the Transcendental form of God is in reality the contemplation of immanent Lord.


ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਉਧਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੫੫॥

गिआन धिआन ब्रहम सथान सावधान साध संगति प्रसंग प्रेम भगति उधार है ॥५५॥

Giaan Dhiaan Braham Sadaan Saavadhaan Saadha , Sangati Prasang Praym Bhagati Udhaar Hai ॥55॥

By assembling in the holy congregation at the appointed place and meditating on Lord's name with total concentration and loving worship, can one sail through the worldly ocean. (55)


ਫਲ ਫੂਲ ਮੂਲ ਫਲ ਮੂਲ ਫਲ ਫਲ ਮੂਲ ਆਦਿ ਪਰਮਾਦਿ ਅਰੁ ਅੰਤ ਕੈ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ ।

फल फूल मूल फल मूल फल फल मूल आदि परमादि अरु अंत कै अनंत है ।

Dhal Dhool Mool Dhal Mool Dhal Dhal Moola , Aadi Paramaadi Aru Ant Kai Anant Hai ।

From fruit one begets a seed and seed develops into a tree to give fruit, and this process continues. This system of growth has been in vogue before the beginning. Its end is beyond the end.


ਪਿਤ ਸੁਤ ਸੁਤ ਪਿਤ ਸੁਤ ਪਿਤ ਪਿਤ ਸੁਤ ਉਤਪਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਗੂੜ ਮੂਲ ਮੰਤ ਹੈ ।

पित सुत सुत पित सुत पित पित सुत उतपति गति अति गूड़ मूल मंत है ।

Pit Sout Sout Pit Sout Pit Pit Souta , Outapati Gati Ati Goorh Mool Mant Hai ।

Father begets a son and the son then becomes a father and begets son. Thus continues the system of father-son-father. This convention of creation has very deep quintessence.


ਪਥਿਕ ਬਸੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ਜਿਉ ਨਿਕਸਿ ਬੈਠ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਵਾਰ ਪਾਰ ਸਰਿਤਾ ਸਿਧਤ ਹੈ ।

पथिक बसेरा को निबेरा जिउ निकसि बैठ इत उत वार पार सरिता सिधत है ।

Padik Basayraa Ko Nibayraa Jiu Nikasi Baittha , It Out Vaar Paar Saritaa Sidhat Hai ।

As the end of journey of a traveller depends upon his embarking a boat and then de-embarking from it, crossing the river defines its near and far ends, and these ends keep changing depending upon which direction a traveller is crossing the river from.


ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਰ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਗਤਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਤ ਹੈ ॥੫੬॥

पूरन ब्रहम गुर गोबिंद गोबिंद गुर अबिगत गति सिमरत सिख संत है ॥५६॥

Pooran Braham Gur Gobind Gobind Gur , Abigat Gati Simarat Sikh Sant Hai ॥56॥

Similarly all powerful, all knowing Guru is God Himself. He is both Guru and God. This incomprehensible state can best be understood by a Guru-conscious person. (56)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੰਥ ਗਹੇ ਜਮਪੁਰਿ ਪੰਥ ਮੇਟੇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਸੰਗ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਸੰਗ ਤਿਆਗੇ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि पंथ गहे जमपुरि पंथ मेटे गुरसिख संग पंचदूत संग तिआगे है ।

Gurmukhi Pand Gahay Jamapuri Pand Maytay , Gursikh Sang Panch Doot Sang Tiaagay Hai ।

Treading the path of Guru's percepts, a Sikh is freed from the fear of death. By keeping company of the holy Sangat (congregation) even vices like lust, anger, avarice, attachment and pride are shed.


ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਮ ਭਰਮ ਖੋਏ ਦਰਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਕਾਲ ਕੰਟਕ ਭੈ ਭਾਗੇ ਹੈ ।

चरन सरनि गुर करम भरम खोए दरस अकाल काल कंटक भै भागे है ।

Charan Sarani Gur Karam Bharam Khoay , Daras Akaal Kaal Kantak Bhai Bhaagay Hai ।

By taking the refuge of Satguru, one destroys all effects of the past deeds. And beholding the God-like form of Satguru, the fear of death disappears.


ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਵੇਸ ਬਜ੍ਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲੇ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮੂਰਛਤ ਮਨ ਜਾਗੇ ਹੈ ।

गुर उपदेस वेस बज्र कपाट खुले सबद सुरति मूरछत मन जागे है ।

Gur Oupadays Vays Bajr Kapaat Khulay , Sabad Surati Moorachhat Man Jaagay Hai ।

Abiding by the sermons of the Satguru, all desires and apprehensions vanish. By engrossing the mind in the holy words of the Guru, the mammon-gripped unconscious mind becomes alert.


ਕਿੰਚਤ ਕਟਾਛ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪਾਏ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ਹੈ ॥੫੭॥

किंचत कटाछ क्रिपा सरब निधान पाए जीवन मुकति गुर गिआन लिव लागे है ॥५७॥

Kinchat Kataachh Kripaa Sarab Nidhaan Paaay , Jeevan Moukati Gur Giaan Liv Laagay Hai ॥57॥

Even a subtle element of grace of the Satguru is no less than all the worldly treasures. By engrossing the mind in the word and Naam blessed by the Satguru, one achieves salvation while still alive and living life. (57)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੰਥ ਸੁਖ ਚਾਹਤ ਸਕਲ ਪੰਥ ਸਕਲ ਦਰਸ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि पंथ सुख चाहत सकल पंथ सकल दरस गुर दरस अधीन है ।

Gurmukhi Pand Soukh Chaahat Sakal Panda , Sakal Daras Gur Daras Adheen Hai ।

All religions yearn for the comfort and peace of the path of Guru-conscious people. All cults and religions are subservient and in attendance to the path of Guru


ਸੁਰ ਸੁਰਸਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨ ਚਾਹੈ ਬੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਸਬਦ ਲਿਵ ਲੀਨ ਹੈ ।

सुर सुरसरि गुर चरन सरन चाहै बेद ब्रहमादिक सबद लिव लीन है ।

Sur Surasari Gur Charan Saran Chaahai , Bayd Brahamaadik Sabad Liv Leen Hai ।

All gods and their holy rivers yearn for the refuge of Satguru Ji. Brahma the creator of Vedas also longs to attach his mind in the words of Guru.


ਸਰਬ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਅਵਗਾਹਨ ਮੈ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਲ ਮੀਨ ਹੈ ।

सरब गिआनि गुरु गिआन अवगाहन मै सरब निधान गुर क्रिपा जल मीन है ।

Sarab Giaani Guru Giaan Avagaahan Mai , Sarab Nidhaan Gur Kripaa Jal Meen Hai ।

All the religions are seekers of the Naam Simran. By the blessings of the Guru, one gets all the treasures of the world just as a fish receives life-supporting water.


ਜੋਗੀ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਭੋਗੀ ਭੋਗ ਭੁਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਜ ਪਦ ਕੁਲ ਅਕੁਲੀਨ ਹੈ ॥੫੮॥

जोगी जोग जुगति मै भोगी भोग भुगति मै गुरमुखि निज पद कुल अकुलीन है ॥५८॥

Jogee Jog Jougati Mai Bhogee Bhog Bhougati Mai , Gurmukhi Nij Pad Kul Akuleen Hai ॥58॥

Just as the Yogis are perpetually immersed in practicing yogic exercises and a worldly man is ever engrossed in enjoying the relishments, similarly the devoted Sikhs remain engrossed in the higher spiritual state through Naam Simran and keep themselves unsullied of caste and creed divide. (58)


ਉਲਟਿ ਪਵਨ ਮਨ ਮੀਨ ਕੀ ਚਪਲ ਗਤਿ ਸੁਖਮਨਾ ਸੰਗਮ ਕੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ ।

उलटि पवन मन मीन की चपल गति सुखमना संगम कै ब्रहम सथान है ।

Ulati Pavan Man Meen Kee Chapal Gati , Soukhamanaa Sangam Kai Braham Sadaan Hai ।

By the practice of Naam Simran, Guru-conscious disciples are able to control the wayward and frolicsome mind and with sharp fish-like movement harbour their consciousness in the Dasam Duar (tenth opening), the meeting place of Irha, Pingla and Sukhmana. T


ਸਾਗਰ ਸਲਿਲ ਗਹਿ ਗਗਨ ਘਟਾ ਘਮੰਡ ਉਨਮਨ ਮਗਨ ਲਗਨ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ ।

सागर सलिल गहि गगन घटा घमंड उनमन मगन लगन गुर गिआन है ।

Saagar Salil Gahi Gagan Ghataa Ghamanda , Ounaman Magan Lagan Gur Giaan Hai ।

They merge with the Eternal Light of the Lord, just as the river merges with the water of the ocean. They remain in ecstacy and are focused, devoted on lighting their spirit with the Light the Guru has shone.


ਜੋਤਿ ਮੈ ਜੋਤੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾਮਨੀ ਚਮਤਕਾਰ ਗਰਜਤ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਨੀਸਾਨ ਹੈ ।

जोति मै जोती सरूप दामनी चमतकार गरजत अनहद सबद नीसान है ।

Joti Mai Jotee Saroop Daamanee Chamatakaara , Garajat Anahad Sabad Neesaan Hai ।

By melding into the super radiance of the Lord, they enjoy the blissful electric radiance of the union. They hear the sound of unstruck music loud and clear.


ਨਿਝਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਬਰਖਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਕਲ ਫਲ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੫੯॥

निझर अपार धार बरखा अंम्रित जल सेवक सकल फल सरब निधान है ॥५९॥

Nijhar Apaar Dhaar Barakhaa Anmrit Jala , Sayvak Sakal Dhal Sarab Nidhaan Hai ॥59॥

They perpetually enjoy the continuous flow of the divine elixir in the Dasam Duar and the seekers obtain all the fruits and treasures. (59)


ਲੋਗਨ ਮੈ ਲੋਗਾਚਾਰ ਬੇਦਨ ਮੈ ਬੇਦ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਲੋਗ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਸ ਇਕੀਸ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ ।

लोगन मै लोगाचार बेदन मै बेद बिचार लोग बेद बीस इकीस गुर गिआन है ।

Logan Mai Logaachaar Baydan Mai Bayd Bichaara , Log Bayd Bees Ikees Gur Giaan Hai ।

A Guru-conscious seeker lives like a worldly being in the society and conducts himself as a knowledgeable person among the scholars. And yet for him, all these are worldly deeds and keeps him unsullied from them. He remains engrossed in the memory of the Lord as taught to him by the Guru.


ਜੋਗ ਮੈ ਨ ਜੋਗ ਭੋਗ ਮੈ ਨ ਖਾਨ ਪਾਨ ਜੋਗ ਭੋਗਾਤੀਤ ਉਨਮਨ ਉਨਮਾਨ ਹੈ ।

जोग मै न जोग भोग मै न खान पान जोग भोगातीत उनमन उनमान है ।

Jog Mai N Jog Bhog Mai N Khaan Paana , Jog Bhogaateet Ounaman Ounamaan Hai ।

The yogic practices do not provide a seeker with the true union of the Lord. The worldly pleasures are also devoid of true comfort and peace. Thus a Guru-conscious person keeps himself free from such distractions and enjoys the true bliss by engrossing his mind in the higher spiritual state.


ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟ ਦਰਸ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਖ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਹੈ ।

द्रिसट दरस धिआन सबद सुरति गिआन गिआन धिआन लख प्रेम परम निधान है ।

Drisat Daras Dhiaan Sabad Surati Giaana , Giaan Dhiaan Lakh Praym Param Nidhaan Hai ।

Guru-conscious person's vision is always focused on the glimpse of his Guru. His mind is always engrossed in repeated remembrance of Lord's name. In acquiring such divine awareness, he is able to receive the divine treasure of love of the Lord.


ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਸ੍ਰਮ ਸਾਧਨਾਧ੍ਯਾਤਮ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਸਰਬੋਤਿਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੬੦॥

मन बच क्रम स्रम साधनाध्यातम क्रम गुरमुख सुख सरबोतिम निधान है ॥६०॥

Man Bach Kram Sram Saadhanaadhyaatam Krama , Gurmoukh Soukh Sarabotim Nidhaan Hai ॥60॥

Whatever good he does with mind, words and actions, is all spiritual. He enjoys all the happiness in the supreme treasure of Naam Simran. (60)


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਧਾਵਤ ਬਰਜਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਮਨ ਉਨਮਨ ਭੀਨ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति लिव धावत बरजि राखे निहचल मति मन उनमन भीन है ।

Sabad Surati Liv Dhaavat Baraji Raakhay , Nihachal Mati Man Ounaman Bheen Hai ।

By engrossing the mind in the divine word, a Guru-conscious seeker is able to arrest his wandering mind. That stabilises his memory in the meditation of Naam raising him to a higher spiritual state.


ਸਾਗਰ ਲਹਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਆਤਮ ਤਰੰਗ ਰੰਗ ਪਰਮੁਦਭੁਤ ਪਰਮਾਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਹੈ ।

सागर लहरिगति आतम तरंग रंग परमुदभुत परमारथ प्रबीन है ।

Saagar Lahari Gati Aatam Tarang Ranga , Paramudabhout Paramaarad Prabeen Hai ।

The sea and the waves are one and the same. Similarly by becoming one with the Lord, the spiritual waves experienced are astonishing and gloriously unique. Guru-conscious people are only capable of understanding and experiencing the spiritual state.


ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਨਿਰਮੋਲਕ ਰਤਨ ਧਨ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਲੀਨ ਹੈ ।

गुर उपदेस निरमोलक रतन धन परम निधान गुर गिआन लिव लीन है ।

Gur Oupadays Niramolak Ratan Dhana , Param Nidhaan Gur Giaan Liv Leen Hai ।

The Guru-conscious person obtains the invaluable jewel like treasure of Naam by the precepts of Guru. And once he obtains it, he remains engrossed in the practicing of Naam Simran.


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੋਹੰ ਹੰਸੋ ਏਕਾ ਮੇਕ ਆਪਾ ਆਪੁ ਚੀਨ ਹੈ ॥੬੧॥

सबद सुरति लिव गुर सिख संधि मिले सोहं हंसो एका मेक आपा आपु चीन है ॥६१॥

Sabad Surati Liv Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay , Sohan Hanso Aykaa Mayk Aapaa Aapu Cheen Hai ॥61॥

By the harmonious union of Guru and Sikh (disciple) the Sikh attaches his mind in the divine word that enables his self to become one with the Supreme soul. Thus he is able to recognise what he truly is. (61)


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਅਵਗਾਹਨ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਤਿ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति अवगाहन बिमल मति सबद सुरति गुर गिआन को प्रगास है ।

Sabad Surati Avagaahan Bimal Mati , Sabad Surati Gur Giaan Ko Pragaas Hai ।

The Sikh who remains in service of his Guru, whose mind is engrossed in his teachings, who practices remembering Lord; his intellect becomes sharp and high. That enlightens his mind and soul with the light of Guru's knowledge.


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੈ ਦਿਬਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਅਨਭੈ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति सम द्रिसटि कै दिबि जोति सबद सुरति लिव अनभै अभिआस है ।

Sabad Surati Sam Drisati Kai Dibi Joti , Sabad Surati Liv Anabhai Abhiaas Hai ।

With Guru's word residing in the memory, seeing and treating all alike, he experiences the divine refulgence in his soul. By attachment of his mind in the divine word, he becomes a practitioner of Fearless Lord's Naam Simran.


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪਰਮਾਰਥ ਪਰਮਪਦ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति परमारथ परमपद सबद सुरति सुख सहज निवास है ।

Sabad Surati Paramaarad Paramapada , Sabad Surati Soukh Sahaj Nivaas Hai ।

By this union a Guru-conscious person achieves emancipation, the supreme spiritual state. He then rests in a state of perpetual comfort and peace and lives in a state of blissful equipoise.


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਰਸਿਕ ਹੁਇ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਬਿਸਮ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸ ਹੈ ॥੬੨॥

सबद सुरति लिव प्रेम रस रसिक हुइ सबद सुरति लिव बिसम बिस्वास है ॥६२॥

Sabad Surati Liv Praym Ras Rasik Hui , Sabad Surati Liv Bisam Bisvaas Hai ॥62॥

And by imbibing the divine word in his memory, Guru conscious person lives in the love of the Lord. He relishes the divine elixir forever. An astonishing devotion for the Lord develops in his mind then. (62)


ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਰਸ ਲਿਵ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਘਟ ਘਟਿ ਕਾਸ ਜਲ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੈ ।

द्रिसटि दरस लिव गुर सिख संधि मिले घट घटि कास जल अंतरि धिआन है ।

Drisati Daras Liv Gur Sikh Sandhi Milay , Ghat Ghati Kaas Jal Antari Dhiaan Hai ।

When a devoted Sikh meets True Guru, his vision gets absorbed in the sight/glimpse of the Guru. And then his soul recognises everyone as if He resides in all; like the sky/space resides equally in all the water pitchers.

The union of a True Guru and a Sikh blesses the Sikh with the capability of remaining engrossed in the words/precepts of the Guru. As a musician gets totally engrossed in the tune that he is playing, so is the case of a Sikh's absorption in his Guru.


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕਰਮ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਭਏ ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਗੰਮਿਤਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि मन बच करम इकत्र भए तन त्रिभवन गति गंमिता गिआन है ।

Gurmukhi Man Bach Karam Ikatr Bhaay , Tan Tribhavan Gati Ganmitaa Giaan Hai ।

With the concentration of mind and Guru's words in a Guru devotee, he realises all the happenings of the three worlds within his body.


ਏਕ ਅਉ ਅਨੇਕ ਮੇਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਟੇਕ ਸ੍ਰੋਤ ਸਰਤਾ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਆਤਮ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੈ ॥੬੩॥

एक अउ अनेक मेक ब्रहम बिबेक टेक स्रोत सरता समुंद्र आतम समान है ॥६३॥

Ayk Au Anayk Mayk Braham Bibayk Tayka , Srot Sarataa Samoundr Aatam Samaan Hai ॥63॥

By the help of divine knowledge, the soul of a Guru devotee becomes harmonious with One Lord who is present in every bit of His creation. This union is like the merging of a river water in the ocean. (63)


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕਰਮ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਭਏ ਪਰਮਦਭੁਤ ਗਤਿ ਅਲਖ ਲਖਾਏ ਹੈ ।

गुरमुखि मन बच करम इकत्र भए परमदभुत गति अलख लखाए है ।

Gurmukhi Man Bach Karam Ikatr Bhaay , Paramadabhout Gati Alakh Lakhaaay Hai ।

The obedient slaves of Guru, being dyed in the hue of Naam Simran (with their mind, speech and actions being harmonious) sees the astonishing and transcendental Lord God conspicuous.


ਅੰਤਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿਬ ਜੋਤ ਕੋ ਉਦੋਤੁ ਭਇਓ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਹੈ ।

अंतर धिआन दिब जोत को उदोतु भइओ त्रिभवन रूप घट अंतरि दिखाए है ।

Antar Dhiaan Dib Jot Ko Udotu Bhaiao , Tribhavan Roop Ghat Antari Dikhaaay Hai ।

And when he looks inward (concentrates his faculties within), he sees the divine light refulgent within. He sees the happenings of the three worlds in his consciousness.


ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਓ ਗੰਮਿਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਲ ਗਤਿ ਜਤਨ ਜਤਾਏ ਹੈ ।

परम निधान गुर गिआन को प्रगासु भइओ गंमिता त्रिकाल गति जतन जताए है ।

Param Nidhaan Gur Giaan Ko Pragaasu Bhaiao , Ganmitaa Trikaal Gati Jatan Jataaay Hai ।

When the supreme treasure of Guru's Gyan (Divine knowledge) becomes effulgent in the mind of a Guru conscious person, he becomes aware of all the three worlds. And even then, he does not go astray from his objective of absorption of self into the vastness of the Lord.


ਆਤਮ ਤਰੰਗ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਮਧ ਪਾਨ ਮਤ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਹੇਰਤ ਹਿਰਾਏ ਹੈ ॥੬੪॥

आतम तरंग प्रेम रस मध पान मत अकथ कथा बिनोद हेरत हिराए है ॥६४॥

Aatam Tarang Praym Ras Madh Paan Mata , Akad Kadaa Binod Hayrat Hiraaay Hai ॥64॥

Such a devotee remains in a state of trance drinking deep the divine elixir of ecstasy. This wonderful state is beyond description. One feels amazed at this state. (64)


ਬਿਨੁ ਰਸ ਰਸਨਾ ਬਕਤ ਜੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਾਤੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਬਸਿ ਭਏ ਮੋਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਲੀਨ ਹੈ ।

बिनु रस रसना बकत जी बहुत बातै प्रेम रस बसि भए मोनि ब्रत लीन है ।

Binu Ras Rasanaa Bakat Jee Bahout Baatai , Praym Ras Basi Bhaay Moni Brat Leen Hai ।

Without tasting the elixir of Naam, an insipid tongue speaks much trash. On the contrary, by indulging in repeated utterance of His name, a devotee becomes sweet of tongue and pleasant of disposition.


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪਾਨ ਕੈ ਮਦੋਨ ਅੰਤਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਨ ਚੀਨ ਹੈ ।

प्रेम रस अंम्रितनिधान पान कै मदोन अंतर धिआन द्रिग दुतीआ न चीन है ।

Praym Ras Anmrit Nidhaan Paan Kai Madona , Antar Dhiaan Drig Douteeaa N Cheen Hai ।

By drinking the elixir-like Naam, a devotee remains in a state of exhilaration. He starts seeing inward and depends not on anyone else.


ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੇਮ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਲਿਵ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਸਬਦ ਸ੍ਰਵਨੰਤਰਿ ਨ ਕੀਨ ਹੈ ।

प्रेम नेम सहज समाधि अनहद लिव दुतीआ सबद स्रवनंतरि न कीन है ।

Praym Naym Sahaj Samaadhi Anahad Liva , Douteeaa Sabad Sravanantari N Keen Hai ।

The devoted traveller on the path of Naam stays in a state of equipoise and remains absorbed in the celestial melody of divine words music. He hears no other sound in his ears.


ਬਿਸਮ ਬਿਦੇਹ ਜਗ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਨ ਅਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਕਾਲ ਗੰਮਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਹੈ ॥੬੫॥

बिसम बिदेह जग जीवन मुकति भए त्रिभवन अउ त्रिकाल गंमिता प्रबीन है ॥६५॥

Bisam Bidayh Jag Jeevan Moukati Bhaay , Tribhavan Au Trikaal Ganmitaa Prabeen Hai ॥65॥

And in this blissful state, he is free of body and still alive. He is free from all worldly things and is emancipated while still living. He becomes capable of knowing the happenings of the three worlds and of the three periods. (65)


ਸਕਲ ਸੁਗੰਧਤਾ ਮਿਲਤ ਅਰਗਜਾ ਹੋਤ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਰਗਜਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਿਸਮ ਸੁਬਾਸ ਕੈ ।

सकल सुगंधता मिलत अरगजा होत कोटि अरगजा मिलि बिसम सुबास कै ।

Sakal Sougandhataa Milat Aragajaa Hota , Koti Aragajaa Mili Bisam Soubaas Kai ।

When sandalwood, musk, camphor and saffron are mixed; a fragrant paste is formed, But millions of such pastes are worthless before the fragrance of the lotus like feet of Satguru Ji.


ਸਕਲ ਅਨੂਪ ਰੂਪ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਮਾਤ ਹੇਰਤ ਹਿਰਾਤ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਮਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਕੈ ।

सकल अनूप रूप कमल बिखै समात हेरत हिरात कोटि कमला प्रगास कै ।

Sakal Anoop Roop Kamal Bikhai Samaata , Hayrat Hiraat Koti Kamalaa Pragaas Kai ।

All the beauties of the world are absorbed in Lakshmi (the consort of Vishnu) but the beautiful radiance of Lord's feet is many times more blissful and pleasant than millions of Lakshmis,


ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਭਏ ਕੋਟਿਕ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਹੁਇ ਚਕਿਤ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਕੈ ।

सरब निधान मिलि परम निधान भए कोटिक निधान हुइ चकित बिलास कै ।

Sarab Nidhaan Mili Param Nidhaan Bhaay , Kotik Nidhaan Hui Chakit Bilaas Kai ।

The wealth of the world put together becomes supreme and invaluable assets. But all the peace and comforts obtainable from many times more wealth is not even a counterpart of the comforts obtained from the spiritual bliss of the Lord,


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਮਧੁਕਰ ਅਨਭੈ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕੈ ॥੬੬॥

चरन कमल गुर महिमा अगाधि बोधि गुरसिख मधुकर अनभै अभिआस कै ॥६६॥

Charan Kamal Gur Mahimaa Agaadhi Bodhi , Gursikh Madhoukar Anabhai Abhiaas Kai ॥66॥

The glory of the lotus feet of a True Guru is beyond the perception of a man. The devoted Sikhs enjoy and relish the elixir of the lotus feet of Fearless God through engrossing themselves in Naam Simran. (66)


ਰਤਨ ਪਾਰਖ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਤਨ ਪਰੀਖਾ ਹੋਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਾਟ ਸਾਟ ਰਤਨ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ ।

रतन पारख मिलि रतन परीखा होत गुरमुखि हाट साट रतन बिउहार है ।

Ratan Paarakh Mili Ratan Pareekhaa Hota , Gurmukhi Haat Saat Ratan Biuhaar Hai ।

The genuineness of a gem can only be assayed by some connoisseur of the trade. Similarly an alert and attentive Sikh of the Guru trades in the purchase of jewel like Naam at the shop of a True Guru.


ਮਾਨਕ ਹੀਰਾ ਅਮੋਲ ਮਨਿ ਮੁਕਤਾਹਲ ਕੈ ਗਾਹਕ ਚਾਹਕ ਲਾਭ ਲਭਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ਹੈ ।

मानक हीरा अमोल मनि मुकताहल कै गाहक चाहक लाभ लभति अपार है ।

Maanak Heeraa Amol Mani Moukataahal Kai , Gaahak Chaahak Laabh Labhati Apaar Hai ।

He who is genuinely interested in the trading of the diamonds, pearls, rubies and precious stones, he alone makes maximum profit out of it. Similarly true devotees and disciples of the Guru trade in the commodity of True Naam and make their life profitable.


ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਅਵਗਾਹਨ ਬਿਸਾਹਨ ਕੈ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨੇਮ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰ ਹੈ ।

सबद सुरति अवगाहन बिसाहन कै परम निधान प्रेम नेम गुरदुआर है ।

Sabad Surati Avagaahan Bisaahan Kai , Param Nidhaan Praym Naym Gurduaar Hai ।

By engrossing the mind in the divine word and trading in the commodity of Naam and Shabad (divine word), True Guru blesses his disciple with the treasure of love.


ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਮ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਉਦਾਸ ਭਵ ਤਰਤ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੬੭॥

गुरसिख संधि मिलि संगम समागम कै माइआ मै उदास भव तरत संसार है ॥६७॥

Gursikh Sandhi Mili Sangam Samaagam Kai , Maaiaa Mai Udaas Bhav Tarat Sansaar Hai ॥67॥

When a true servant meets with True Guru; when he joins the loving and devoted congregation of the Guru, such a disciple who is ever in attendance of the Guru remains aloof and unsullied of maya (mammon). He sails across the worldly ocean with impunity. (67)


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸ ਲੁਭਿਤ ਹੁਇ ਨਿਜ ਘਰ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਹੈ ।

चरन कमल मकरंद रस लुभित हुइ निज घर सहज समाधि लिव लागी है ।

Charan Kamal Makarand Ras Loubhit Hui , Nij Ghar Sahaj Samaadhi Liv Laagee Hai ।

A Gursikh (disciple of the Gum) immersed in the pleasure of the elixir of Naam of the Lord remains stable of mind and fully conscious of his self. His mind is ever absorbed in the memory of God.


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸ ਲੁਭਿਤ ਹੁਇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਜਗਮਗ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਾਗੀ ਹੈ ।

चरन कमल मकरंद रस लुभित हुइ गुरमति रिदै जगमग जोति जागी है ।

Charan Kamal Makarand Ras Loubhit Hui , Gurmati Ridai Jagamag Joti Jaagee Hai ।

One who remains engrossed in the elixir-like Naam of the Lord is blessed by the wisdom of Gum. The higher wisdom and his toil of remembering the Lord perpetually reveals the supernatural form of God radiance in his mind.


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸ ਲੁਭਿਤ ਹੁਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪਾਨ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਭਾਗੀ ਹੈ ।

चरन कमल मकरंद रस लुभित हुइ अंम्रित निधान पान दुरमति भागी है ।

Charan Kamal Makarand Ras Loubhit Hui , Anmrit Nidhaan Paan Duramati Bhaagee Hai ।

One who is absorbed in the lotus-like holy feet of the True Guru, keeps drinking the elixir Naam from the inexhaustible source of the Lord. Thus he destroys his sullied wisdom.


ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਰਸ ਲੁਭਿਤ ਹੁਇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਉਦਾਸ ਬਾਸ ਬਿਰਲੋ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੈ ॥੬੮॥

चरन कमल मकरंद रस लुभित हुइ माइआ मै उदास बास बिरलो बैरागी है ॥६८॥

Charan Kamal Makarand Ras Loubhit Hui , Maaiaa Mai Udaas Baas Biralo Bairaagee Hai ॥68॥

One who remains absorbed in the lotus-like holy feet of the True Guru remains unsoiled by the effect of maya (mammon). Only a rare person achieves renunciation from material attractions of the world. (68)


ਜੈਸੇ ਨਾਉ ਬੂਡਤ ਸੈ ਜੋਈ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲੋ ਬੂਡਿ ਗਏ ਪਾਛੇ ਪਛਤਾਇਓ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਤ ਹੈ ।

जैसे नाउ बूडत सै जोई निकसै सोई भलो बूडि गए पाछे पछताइओ रहि जात है ।

Jaisay Naau Boodat Sai Joee Nikasai Soee Bhalo , Boodi Gaay Paachhay Pachhataaiao Rahi Jaat Hai ।

Blessed are those who are saved from a capsizing boat. If drowned, there would be nothing but repentance.


ਜੈਸੇ ਘਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਆਗਿ ਜੋਈ ਬਚੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲੋ ਜਰਿ ਬੁਝੇ ਪਾਛੇ ਕਛੁ ਬਸੁ ਨ ਬਸਾਤ ਹੈ ।

जैसे घर लागे आगि जोईबचै सोई भलो जरि बुझे पाछे कछु बसु न बसात है ।

Jaisay Ghar Laagay Aagi Joee Bachai Soee Bhalo , Jari Bujhay Paachhay Kachhu Basu N Basaat Hai ।

All those who escape from a burning house are blessed people. Nothing can be done if one is burnt into ashes.


ਜੈਸੇ ਚੋਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਾਗੇ ਜੋਈ ਰਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲੋ ਸੋਇ ਗਏ ਰੀਤੋ ਘਰ ਦੇਖੈ ਉਠਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਹੈ ।

जैसे चोर लागे जागे जोई रहै सोई भलो सोइ गए रीतो घर देखै उठि प्रात है ।

Jaisay Chor Laagay Jaagay Joee Rahai Soee Bhalo , Soi Gaay Reeto Ghar Daykhai Outthi Praat Hai ।

As one wakes up when the thief is committing theft, whatever is left behind by him is bonus and blessing. Otherwise one would find the house empty in the morning.


ਤੈਸੇ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਵੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਮੋਖ ਪਦਵੀ ਨਾਤਰ ਬਿਲਲਾਤ ਹੈ ॥੬੯॥

तैसे अंत काल गुर चरन सरनि आवै पावै मोख पदवी नातर बिललात है ॥६९॥

Taisay Ant Kaal Gur Charan Sarani Aavai , Paavai Mokh Padavee Naatar Bilalaat Hai ॥69॥

Similarly if a wayward person comes to the refuge of Guru even at the near end of his life, he can achieve a state of emancipation. Otherwise he would fall in the hands of angels of death and keep wailing. (69)


ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲ ਏਕ ਘਰੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹ ਕੈ ਸਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਕਹਤ ਹੈ ਸਕਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜੀ ।

अंत काल एक घरी निग्रह कै सती होइ धंनि धंनि कहत है सकल संसार जी ।

Ant Kaal Ayk Gharee Nigrah Kai Satee Hoi , Dhanni Dhanni Kahat Hai Sakal Sansaar Jee ।

Controlling her mind and with utmost determination, when a woman jumps into the pyre of her husband and self immolates herself, the whole world applauds her effort of being a loving and devoted wife.
