हरि उतमु हरि प्रभु गाविआ करि नादु बिलावलु रागु ॥

Hari utamu hari prbhu gaaviaa kari naadu bilaavalu raagu ||

I sing of the sublime Lord, the Lord God, in the melody of Raag Bilaaval.

उपदेसु गुरू सुणि मंनिआ धुरि मसतकि पूरा भागु ॥

Upadesu guroo su(nn)i manniaa dhuri masataki pooraa bhaagu ||

Hearing the Guru's Teachings, I obey them; this is the pre-ordained destiny written upon my forehead.

सभ दिनसु रैणि गुण उचरै हरि हरि हरि उरि लिव लागु ॥

Sabh dinasu rai(nn)i gu(nn) ucharai hari hari hari uri liv laagu ||

All day and night, I chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har; within my heart, I am lovingly attuned to Him.

सभु तनु मनु हरिआ होइआ मनु खिड़िआ हरिआ बागु ॥

Sabhu tanu manu hariaa hoiaa manu khi(rr)iaa hariaa baagu ||

My body and mind are totally rejuvenated, and the garden of my mind has blossomed forth in lush abundance.

अगिआनु अंधेरा मिटि गइआ गुर चानणु गिआनु चरागु ॥

Agiaanu anddheraa miti gaiaa gur chaana(nn)u giaanu charaagu ||

The darkness of ignorance has been dispelled, with the light of the lamp of the Guru's wisdom. Servant Nanak lives by beholding the Lord.

बिलावलु तब ही कीजीऐ जब मुखि होवै नामु ॥

Bilaavalu tab hee keejeeai jab mukhi hovai naamu ||

Be happy and sing in Bilaaval, when the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is in your mouth.

राग नाद सबदि सोहणे जा लागै सहजि धिआनु ॥

Raag naad sabadi soha(nn)e jaa laagai sahaji dhiaanu ||

The melody and music, and the Word of the Shabad are beautiful, when one focuses his meditation on the celestial Lord.

राग नाद छोडि हरि सेवीऐ ता दरगह पाईऐ मानु ॥

Raag naad chhodi hari seveeai taa daragah paaeeai maanu ||

So leave behind the melody and music, and serve the Lord; then, you shall obtain honor in the Court of the Lord.

You Yourself are absorbed in the state of deep meditation; You Yourself sing Your Glorious Praises.

Hari dhiaavahu bhagatahu dinasu raati antti lae chhadaaiaa ||

Meditate on the Lord, O devotees, day and night; He shall deliver you in the end.

दूजै भाइ बिलावलु न होवई मनमुखि थाइ न पाइ ॥

Doojai bhaai bilaavalu na hovaee manamukhi thaai na paai ||

In the love of duality, the happiness of Bilaaval does not come; the self-willed manmukh finds no place of rest.

पाखंडि भगति न होवई पारब्रहमु न पाइआ जाइ ॥

Paakhanddi bhagati na hovaee paarabrhamu na paaiaa jaai ||

Through hypocrisy, devotional worship does not come, and the Supreme Lord God is not found.

Manahathi karam kamaava(nn)e thaai na koee paai ||

By stubborn-mindedly performing religious rituals, no one obtains the approval of the Lord.

Naanak guramukhi aapu beechaareeai vichahu aapu gavaai ||

O Nanak, the Gurmukh understands himself, and eradicates self-conceit from within.

Aape aapi paarabrhamu hai paarabrhamu vasiaa mani aai ||

He Himself is the Supreme Lord God; the Supreme Lord God comes to dwell in his mind.

Bilaavalu karihu tumh piaariho ekasu siu liv laai ||

Be happy in Bilaaval, O my beloveds, and embrace love for the One Lord.

The pains of birth and death shall be eradicated, and you shall remain absorbed in the True Lord.

Sadaa bilaavalu ananddu hai je chalahi satigur bhaai ||

You shall be blissful forever in Bilaaval, if you walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.

Satasanggatee bahi bhaau kari sadaa hari ke gu(nn) gaai ||

Sitting in the Saints' Congregation, sing with love the Glorious Praises of the Lord forever.

सभना जीआ विचि हरि आपि सो भगता का मितु हरि ॥

Sabhanaa jeeaa vichi hari aapi so bhagataa kaa mitu hari ||

The Lord Himself is within all beings. The Lord is the friend of His devotees.

Sabhu koee hari kai vasi bhagataa kai ananddu ghari ||

Everyone is under the Lord's control; in the home of the devotees there is bliss.

हरि भगता का मेली सरबत सउ निसुल जन टंग धरि ॥

Hari bhagataa kaa melee sarabat sau nisul jan tangg dhari ||

The Lord is the friend and companion of His devotees; all His humble servants stretch out and sleep in peace.

Hari sabhanaa kaa hai khasamu so bhagat jan chiti kari ||

The Lord is the Lord and Master of all; O humble devotee, remember Him.

No one can equal You, Lord. Those who try, struggle and die in frustration. ||2||

ब्रहमु बिंदहि ते ब्राहमणा जे चलहि सतिगुर भाइ ॥

Brhamu binddahi te braahama(nn)aa je chalahi satigur bhaai ||

He alone knows God, and he alone is a Brahmin, who walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.

Jin kai hiradai hari vasai haumai rogu gavaai ||

One whose heart is filled with the Lord, is freed of egotism and disease.

गुण रवहि गुण संग्रहहि जोती जोति मिलाइ ॥

Gu(nn) ravahi gu(nn) sanggrhahi jotee joti milaai ||

He chants the Lord's Praises, gathers virtue, and his light merges into the Light.

इसु जुग महि विरले ब्राहमण ब्रहमु बिंदहि चितु लाइ ॥

Isu jug mahi virale braahama(nn) brhamu binddahi chitu laai ||

How rare are those Brahmins who, in this age, come to know God, by lovingly focusing their consciousness on Him.

Satigur kee sev na keeteeaa sabadi na lago bhaau ||

One who does not serve the True Guru, and who does not love the Word of the Shabad,

Haumai rogu kamaava(nn)aa ati deeraghu bahu suaau ||

Earns the very painful disease of egotism; he is so very selfish.

Manahathi karam kamaava(nn)e phiri phiri jonee paai ||

Acting stubborn-mindedly, he is reincarnated over and over again.

गुरमुखि जनमु सफलु है जिस नो आपे लए मिलाइ ॥

Guramukhi janamu saphalu hai jis no aape lae milaai ||

The birth of the Gurmukh is fruitful and auspicious. The Lord unites him with Himself.

Naanak nadaree nadari kare taa naam dhanu palai paai ||2||

O Nanak, when the Merciful Lord grants His Mercy, one obtains the wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

सभ वडिआईआ हरि नाम विचि हरि गुरमुखि धिआईऐ ॥

Sabh vadiaaeeaa hari naam vichi hari guramukhi dhiaaeeai ||

All glorious greatness is in the Name of the Lord; as Gurmukh, meditate on the Lord.

Ji vasatu manggeeai saaee paaeeai je naami chitu laaeeai ||

One obtains all that he asks for, if he keeps his consciousness focused on the Lord.

गुहज गल जीअ की कीचै सतिगुरू पासि ता सरब सुखु पाईऐ ॥

Guhaj gal jeea kee keechai satiguroo paasi taa sarab sukhu paaeeai ||

If he tells the secrets of his soul to the True Guru, then he finds absolute peace.

गुरु पूरा हरि उपदेसु देइ सभ भुख लहि जाईऐ ॥

Guru pooraa hari upadesu dei sabh bhukh lahi jaaeeai ||

When the Perfect Guru bestows the Lord's Teachings, then all hunger departs.

जिसु पूरबि होवै लिखिआ सो हरि गुण गाईऐ ॥३॥

Jisu poorabi hovai likhiaa so hari gu(nn) gaaeeai ||3||

One who is blessed with such pre-ordained destiny, sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||

सतिगुर ते खाली को नही मेरै प्रभि मेलि मिलाए ॥

Satigur te khaalee ko nahee merai prbhi meli milaae ||

No one goes away empty-handed from the True Guru; He unites me in Union with my God.

Fruitful is the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the True Guru; through it, one obtains whatever fruitful rewards he desires.

गुर का सबदु अम्रितु है सभ त्रिसना भुख गवाए ॥

Gur kaa sabadu ammmritu hai sabh trisanaa bhukh gavaae ||

The Word of the Guru's Shabad is Ambrosial Nectar. It banishes all hunger and thirst.

हरि रसु पी संतोखु होआ सचु वसिआ मनि आए ॥

Hari rasu pee santtokhu hoaa sachu vasiaa mani aae ||

Drinking in the sublime essence of the Lord brings contentment; the True Lord comes to dwell in the mind.

सचु धिआइ अमरा पदु पाइआ अनहद सबद वजाए ॥

Sachu dhiaai amaraa padu paaiaa anahad sabad vajaae ||

Meditating on the True Lord, the status of immortality is obtained; the Unstruck Word of the Shabad vibrates and resounds.

Sacho dah disi pasariaa gur kai sahaji subhaae ||

The True Lord is pervading in the ten directions; through the Guru, this is intuitively known.

नानक जिन अंदरि सचु है से जन छपहि न किसै दे छपाए ॥१॥

Naanak jin anddari sachu hai se jan chhapahi na kisai de chhapaae ||1||

O Nanak, those humble beings who have the Truth deep within, are never hidden, even if others try to hide them. ||1||

Gur sevaa te hari paaeeai jaa kau nadari karei ||

Serving the Guru, one finds the Lord, when the Lord blesses him with His Glance of Grace.

Maanas te devate bhae sachee bhagati jisu dei ||

Human beings become angels, when the Lord blesses them with true devotional worship.

Haumai maari milaaianu gur kai sabadi suchei ||

Conquering egotism, they are blended with the Lord; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are purified.

गुर सतिगुर विचि नावै की वडी वडिआई हरि करतै आपि वधाई ॥

Gur satigur vichi naavai kee vadee vadiaaee hari karatai aapi vadhaaee ||

Within the Guru, the True Guru, is the glorious greatness of the Name. The Creator Lord Himself has magnified it.

सेवक सिख सभि वेखि वेखि जीवन्हि ओन्हा अंदरि हिरदै भाई ॥

Sevak sikh sabhi vekhi vekhi jeevanhi onhaa anddari hiradai bhaaee ||

All His servants and Sikhs live by gazing, gazing upon it. It is pleasing to their hearts deep within.

निंदक दुसट वडिआई वेखि न सकनि ओन्हा पराइआ भला न सुखाई ॥

Ninddak dusat vadiaaee vekhi na sakani onhaa paraaiaa bhalaa na sukhaaee ||

The slanderers and evil-doers cannot see this glorious greatness; they do not appreciate the goodness of others.

किआ होवै किस ही की झख मारी जा सचे सिउ बणि आई ॥

Kiaa hovai kis hee kee jhakh maaree jaa sache siu ba(nn)i aaee ||

What can be achieved by anyone babbling? The Guru is in love with the True Lord.

जि गल करते भावै सा नित नित चड़ै सवाई सभ झखि झखि मरै लोकाई ॥४॥

Ji gal karate bhaavai saa nit nit cha(rr)ai savaaee sabh jhakhi jhakhi marai lokaaee ||4||

That which is pleasing to the Creator Lord, increases day by day, while all the people babble uselessly. ||4||

ध्रिगु एह आसा दूजे भाव की जो मोहि माइआ चितु लाए ॥

Dhrigu eh aasaa dooje bhaav kee jo mohi maaiaa chitu laae ||

Cursed are the hopes in the love of duality; they tie the consciousness to love and attachment to Maya.

हरि सुखु पल्हरि तिआगिआ नामु विसारि दुखु पाए ॥

Hari sukhu palhri tiaagiaa naamu visaari dukhu paae ||

One who forsakes the peace of the Lord in exchange for straw, and forgets the Naam, suffers in pain.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥

मनमुख अगिआनी अंधुले जनमि मरहि फिरि आवै जाए ॥

Manamukh agiaanee anddhule janami marahi phiri aavai jaae ||

The ignorant self-willed manmukhs are blind. They are born, only to die again, and continue coming and going.

ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਨੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ॥

कारज सिधि न होवनी अंति गइआ पछुताए ॥

Kaaraj sidhi na hovanee antti gaiaa pachhutaae ||

Their affairs are not resolved, and in the end, they depart, regretting and repenting.

One who is blessed with the Lord's Grace, meets the True Guru; he alone meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

नामि रते जन सदा सुखु पाइन्हि जन नानक तिन बलि जाए ॥१॥

Naami rate jan sadaa sukhu paainhi jan naanak tin bali jaae ||1||

Imbued with the Naam, the humble servants of the Lord find a lasting peace; servant Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||1||

आसा मनसा जगि मोहणी जिनि मोहिआ संसारु ॥

Aasaa manasaa jagi moha(nn)ee jini mohiaa sanssaaru ||

Hope and desire entice the world; they entice the whole universe.

सभु को जम के चीरे विचि है जेता सभु आकारु ॥

Sabhu ko jam ke cheere vichi hai jetaa sabhu aakaaru ||

Everyone, and all that has been created, is under the domination of Death.

हुकमी ही जमु लगदा सो उबरै जिसु बखसै करतारु ॥

Hukamee hee jamu lagadaa so ubarai jisu bakhasai karataaru ||

By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, Death seizes the mortal; he alone is saved, whom the Creator Lord forgives.

नानक गुर परसादी एहु मनु तां तरै जा छोडै अहंकारु ॥

Naanak gur parasaadee ehu manu taan tarai jaa chhodai ahankkaaru ||

O Nanak, by Guru's Grace, this mortal swims across, if he abandons his ego.

The faces of the false are cursed, while the true devotees are blessed with glorious greatness.

Sachu saahibu sachaa niaau hai siri ninddak chhaaee ||

True is the Lord and Master, and true is His justice. The heads of the slanderers are covered with ashes.

Poorai bhaagi satiguru paaeeai je hari prbhu bakhas karei ||

By perfect destiny, one finds the True Guru, if the Lord God grants forgiveness.

जितने पातिसाह साह राजे खान उमराव सिकदार हहि तितने सभि हरि के कीए ॥

Jitane paatisaah saah raaje khaan umaraav sikadaar hahi titane sabhi hari ke keee ||

The kings, emperors, rulers, lords, nobles and chiefs, are all created by the Lord.

जो किछु हरि करावै सु ओइ करहि सभि हरि के अरथीए ॥

Jo kichhu hari karaavai su oi karahi sabhi hari ke aratheee ||

Whatever the Lord causes them to do, they do; they are all beggars, dependent on the Lord.

सो ऐसा हरि सभना का प्रभु सतिगुर कै वलि है तिनि सभि वरन चारे खाणी सभ स्रिसटि गोले करि सतिगुर अगै कार कमावण कउ दीए ॥

So aisaa hari sabhanaa kaa prbhu satigur kai vali hai tini sabhi varan chaare khaa(nn)ee sabh srisati gole kari satigur agai kaar kamaava(nn) kau deee ||

Such is God, the Lord of all; He is on the True Guru's side. All castes and social classes, the four sources of creation, and the whole universe are slaves of the True Guru; God makes them work for Him.

हरि सेवे की ऐसी वडिआई देखहु हरि संतहु जिनि विचहु काइआ नगरी दुसमन दूत सभि मारि कढीए ॥

Hari seve kee aisee vadiaaee dekhahu hari santtahu jini vichahu kaaiaa nagaree dusaman doot sabhi maari kadheee ||

See the glorious greatness of serving the Lord, O Saints of the Lord; He has conquered and driven all the enemies and evil-doers out of the body-village.

हरि हरि किरपालु होआ भगत जना उपरि हरि आपणी किरपा करि हरि आपि रखि लीए ॥६॥

Hari hari kirapaalu hoaa bhagat janaa upari hari aapa(nn)ee kirapaa kari hari aapi rakhi leee ||6||

The Lord, Har, Har, is Merciful to His humble devotees; granting His Grace, the Lord Himself protects and preserves them. ||6||

अंदरि कपटु सदा दुखु है मनमुख धिआनु न लागै ॥

Anddari kapatu sadaa dukhu hai manamukh dhiaanu na laagai ||

Fraud and hypocrisy within bring constant pain; the self-willed manmukh does not practice meditation.

Dukh vichi kaar kamaava(nn)ee dukhu varatai dukhu aagai ||

Suffering in pain, he does his deeds; he is immersed in pain, and he shall suffer in pain hereafter.

Karamee satiguru bheteeai taa sachi naami liv laagai ||

By his karma, he meets the True Guru, and then, he is lovingly attuned to the True Name.

Guramukhi sadaa hari ranggu hai hari kaa naau mani bhaaiaa ||

The Gurmukh is in love with the Lord forever. The Name of the Lord is pleasing to his mind.

Guramukhi vekha(nn)u bola(nn)aa naamu japat sukhu paaiaa ||

The Gurmukh beholds and speaks the Naam, the Name of the Lord; chanting the Naam, he finds peace.

O Nanak, the spiritual wisdom of the Gurmukh shines forth; the black darkness of ignorance is dispelled. ||2||

Anddari sanssaa dookhu viaape siri dhanddhaa nit maar ||

Deep within, the pain of skepticism afflicts them; their heads are constantly assaulted by worldly entanglements.

Doojai bhaai soote kabahu na jaagahi maaiaa moh piaar ||

Asleep in the love of duality, they never wake up; they are attached to the love of Maya.

Naamu na chetahi sabadu na veechaarahi ihu manamukh kaa beechaar ||

They do not remember the Name, and they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad; this is the view of the self-willed manmukhs.

हरि नामु न भाइआ बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ नानक जमु मारि करे खुआर ॥३॥

Hari naamu na bhaaiaa birathaa janamu gavaaiaa naanak jamu maari kare khuaar ||3||

They do not love the Lord's Name, and they lose their life uselessly. O Nanak, the Messenger of Death attacks them, and humiliates them. ||3||

Jis no hari bhagati sachu bakhaseeanu so sachaa saahu ||

He alone is a true king, whom the Lord blesses with true devotion.

तिस की मुहताजी लोकु कढदा होरतु हटि न वथु न वेसाहु ॥

Tis kee muhataajee loku kadhadaa horatu hati na vathu na vesaahu ||

People pledge their allegiance to him; no other store stocks this merchandise, nor deals in this trade.

भगत जना कउ सनमुखु होवै सु हरि रासि लए वेमुख भसु पाहु ॥

Bhagat janaa kau sanamukhu hovai su hari raasi lae vemukh bhasu paahu ||

That humble devotee who turns his face towards the Guru and becomes sunmukh, receives the Lord's wealth; the faithless baymukh, who turns his face away from the Guru, gathers only ashes.

हरि के नाम के वापारी हरि भगत हहि जमु जागाती तिना नेड़ि न जाहु ॥

Hari ke naam ke vaapaaree hari bhagat hahi jamu jaagaatee tinaa ne(rr)i na jaahu ||

The Lord's devotees are dealers in the Name of the Lord. The Messenger of Death, the tax-collector, does not even approach them.

इसु जुग महि भगती हरि धनु खटिआ होरु सभु जगतु भरमि भुलाइआ ॥

Isu jug mahi bhagatee hari dhanu khatiaa horu sabhu jagatu bharami bhulaaiaa ||

In this age, the devotee earns the wealth of the Lord; all the rest of the world wanders deluded in doubt.

Gur parasaadee naamu mani vasiaa anadinu naamu dhiaaiaa ||

By Guru's Grace, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell in his mind; night and day, he meditates on the Naam.

Bikhiaa maahi udaas hai haumai sabadi jalaaiaa ||

In the midst of corruption, he remains detached; through the Word of the Shabad, he burns away his ego.

Aapi tariaa kul udhare dhannu ja(nn)edee maaiaa ||

He crosses over, and saves his relatives as well; blessed is the mother who gave birth to him.

Sadaa sahaju sukhu mani vasiaa sache siu liv laaiaa ||

Peace and poise fill his mind forever, and he embraces love for the True Lord.

ब्रहमा बिसनु महादेउ त्रै गुण भुले हउमै मोहु वधाइआ ॥

Brhamaa bisanu mahaadeu trai gu(nn) bhule haumai mohu vadhaaiaa ||

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva wander in the three qualities, while their egotism and desire increase.

पंडित पड़ि पड़ि मोनी भुले दूजै भाइ चितु लाइआ ॥

Panddit pa(rr)i pa(rr)i monee bhule doojai bhaai chitu laaiaa ||

The Pandits, the religious scholars and the silent sages read and debate in confusion; their consciousness is centered on the love of duality.

जोगी जंगम संनिआसी भुले विणु गुर ततु न पाइआ ॥

Jogee janggam sanniaasee bhule vi(nn)u gur tatu na paaiaa ||

The Yogis, wandering pilgrims and Sanyaasees are deluded; without the Guru, they do not find the essence of reality.

मनमुख दुखीए सदा भ्रमि भुले तिन्ही बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ ॥

Manamukh dukheee sadaa bhrmi bhule tinhee birathaa janamu gavaaiaa ||

The miserable self-willed manmukhs are forever deluded by doubt; they waste away their lives uselessly.

O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam are balanced and poised; forgiving them, the Lord blends them with Himself. ||1||

Remember Him, O mortals - without Him, there is no other at all.

जिनी गुरमुखि हरि नाम धनु न खटिओ से देवालीए जुग माहि ॥

Jinee guramukhi hari naam dhanu na khatio se devaaleee jug maahi ||

Those who do not become Gurmukh and earn the wealth of the Lord's Name, are bankrupt in this age.

ओइ मंगदे फिरहि सभ जगत महि कोई मुहि थुक न तिन कउ पाहि ॥

Oi manggade phirahi sabh jagat mahi koee muhi thuk na tin kau paahi ||

They wander around begging all over the world, but no one even spits in their faces.

पराई बखीली करहि आपणी परतीति खोवनि सगवा भी आपु लखाहि ॥

Paraaee bakheelee karahi aapa(nn)ee parateeti khovani sagavaa bhee aapu lakhaahi ||

They gossip about others, and lose their credit, and expose themselves as well.

ਜਿਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਚੁਗਲੀ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਓਇ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

जिसु धन कारणि चुगली करहि सो धनु चुगली हथि न आवै ओइ भावै तिथै जाहि ॥

Jisu dhan kaara(nn)i chugalee karahi so dhanu chugalee hathi na aavai oi bhaavai tithai jaahi ||

That wealth, for which they slander others, does not come into their hands, no matter where they go.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਥਹੁ ਕਰਮਹੀਣ ਲੈ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੮॥

गुरमुखि सेवक भाइ हरि धनु मिलै तिथहु करमहीण लै न सकहि होर थै देस दिसंतरि हरि धनु नाहि ॥८॥

Guramukhi sevak bhaai hari dhanu milai tithahu karamahee(nn) lai na sakahi hor thai des disanttari hari dhanu naahi ||8||

Through loving service, the Gurmukhs receive the wealth of the Naam, but the unfortunate ones cannot receive it. This wealth is not found anywhere else, in this country or in any other. ||8||

Guramukhi sanssaa mooli na hovaee chinttaa vichahu jaai ||

The Gurmukh does not have an iota of skepticism or doubt; worries depart from within him.

Jo kichhu hoi su sahaje hoi kaha(nn)aa kichhoo na jaai ||

Whatever he does, he does with grace and poise. Nothing else can be said about him.

O Nanak, the Lord Himself hears the speech of those whom He makes His own. ||1||

कालु मारि मनसा मनहि समाणी अंतरि निरमलु नाउ ॥

Kaalu maari manasaa manahi samaa(nn)ee anttari niramalu naau ||

He conquers death, and subdues the desires of his mind; the Immaculate Name abides deep within him.

अनदिनु जागै कदे न सोवै सहजे अम्रितु पिआउ ॥

Anadinu jaagai kade na sovai sahaje ammmritu piaau ||

Night and day, he remains awake and aware; he never sleeps, and he intuitively drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar.

मीठा बोले अम्रित बाणी अनदिनु हरि गुण गाउ ॥

Meethaa bole ammmrit baa(nn)ee anadinu hari gu(nn) gaau ||

His speech is sweet, and his words are nectar; night and day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

निज घरि वासा सदा सोहदे नानक तिन मिलिआ सुखु पाउ ॥२॥

Nij ghari vaasaa sadaa sohade naanak tin miliaa sukhu paau ||2||

He dwells in the home of his own self, and appears beautiful forever; meeting him, Nanak finds peace. ||2||

हरि धनु रतन जवेहरी सो गुरि हरि धनु हरि पासहु देवाइआ ॥

Hari dhanu ratan javeharee so guri hari dhanu hari paasahu devaaiaa ||

The wealth of the Lord is a jewel, a gem; the Guru has caused the Lord to grant that wealth of the Lord.

ਜੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਿਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਹੁ ਮੰਗਿ ਲਏ ਅਕੈ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਹੁ ਦੇਵਾਏ ਏਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜੋਰਿ ਕੀਤੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਵੰਡਾਇਆ ॥

जे किसै किहु दिसि आवै ता कोई किहु मंगि लए अकै कोई किहु देवाए एहु हरि धनु जोरि कीतै किसै नालि न जाइ वंडाइआ ॥

Je kisai kihu disi aavai taa koee kihu manggi lae akai koee kihu devaae ehu hari dhanu jori keetai kisai naali na jaai vanddaaiaa ||

If someone sees something, he may ask for it; or, someone may cause it to be given to him. But no one can take a share of this wealth of the Lord by force.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਲਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਵੰਡ ਹਥਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਰਤੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

जिस नो सतिगुर नालि हरि सरधा लाए तिसु हरि धन की वंड हथि आवै जिस नो करतै धुरि लिखि पाइआ ॥

Jis no satigur naali hari saradhaa laae tisu hari dhan kee vandd hathi aavai jis no karatai dhuri likhi paaiaa ||

He alone obtains a share of the wealth of the Lord, who is blessed by the Creator with faith and devotion to the True Guru, according to his pre-ordained destiny.

ਇਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨ ਕਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਰੀਕੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਖਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੈ ਸੀਵ ਬੰਨੈ ਰੋਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮੁਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਲਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥

इसु हरि धन का कोई सरीकु नाही किसै का खतु नाही किसै कै सीव बंनै रोलु नाही जे को हरि धन की बखीली करे तिस का मुहु हरि चहु कुंडा विचि काला कराइआ ॥

Isu hari dhan kaa koee sareeku naahee kisai kaa khatu naahee kisai kai seev bannai rolu naahee je ko hari dhan kee bakheelee kare tis kaa muhu hari chahu kunddaa vichi kaalaa karaaiaa ||

No one is a share-holder in this wealth of the Lord, and no one owns any of it. It has no boundaries or borders to be disputed. If anyone speaks ill of the wealth of the Lord, his face will be blackened in the four directions.

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਿਤੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਿਸੈ ਜੋਰੁ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਦਿਹੁ ਦਿਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥੯॥

हरि के दिते नालि किसै जोरु बखीली न चलई दिहु दिहु नित नित चड़ै सवाइआ ॥९॥

Hari ke dite naali kisai joru bakheelee na chalaee dihu dihu nit nit cha(rr)ai savaaiaa ||9||

No one's power or slander can prevail against the gifts of the Lord; day by day they continually, continuously increase. ||9||

Jagatu jalanddaa rakhi lai aapa(nn)ee kirapaa dhaari ||

The world is going up in flames - shower it with Your Mercy, and save it!

Save it, and deliver it, by whatever method it takes.

Satiguri sukhu vekhaaliaa sachaa sabadu beechaari ||

Through egotism, fascination with Maya has trapped them in duality.

It cannot be killed, it does not die, and it cannot be sold in a store.

Satigur kee vadiaaee satiguri ditee dhurahu hukamu bujhi neesaa(nn)u ||

The glorious greatness of the True Guru was bestowed by the True Guru; He understood this as the Insignia, the Mark of the Primal Lord's Will.

Putee bhaateeee jaavaaee sakee agahu pichhahu toli dithaa laahionu sabhanaa kaa abhimaanu ||

He tested His sons, nephews, sons-in-law and relatives, and subdued the egotistical pride of them all.

Wherever anyone looks, my True Guru is there; the Lord blessed Him with the whole world.

जि सतिगुर नो मिलि मंने सु हलति पलति सिझै जि वेमुखु होवै सु फिरै भरिसट थानु ॥

Ji satigur no mili manne su halati palati sijhai ji vemukhu hovai su phirai bharisat thaanu ||

One who meets with, and believes in the True Guru, is embellished here and hereafter. Whoever turns his back on the Guru and becomes baymukh, shall wander in cursed and evil places.

My Lord and Master is on the side of servant Nanak. The All-powerful and All-knowing Lord God is my Best Friend.

Paudee bhiti dekhi kai sabhi aai pae satigur kee pairee laahionu sabhanaa kiahu manahu gumaanu ||10||

Seeing the food being distributed, everyone came and fell at the feet of the True Guru, who cleansed the minds of all of their egotistical pride. ||10||

Unsatisfied sexual desire and unresolved anger, the horrible demons, have been totally destroyed.

Those who forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are said to be false.

Pancch chor tinaa gharu muhanhi haumai anddari sannhi ||

The five thieves plunder their homes, and egotism breaks in.

The faithless cynics are defrauded by their own evil-mindedness; they do not know the sublime essence of the Lord.

Those who lose the Ambrosial Nectar through doubt, remain engrossed and entangled in corruption.

Dusataa setee piraha(rr)ee jan siu vaadu karannhi ||

They make friends with the wicked, and argue with the humble servants of the Lord.

Naanak saakat narak mahi jami badhe dukh sahannhi ||

O Nanak, the faithless cynics are bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death, and suffer agony in hell.

Saasi giraasi sadaa mani vasai jamu johi na sakai tisu ||

With every breath and morsel of food, the Lord abides in their minds forever, and the Messenger of Death cannot even see them.

Hiradai hari hari naam rasu kavalaa sevaki tisu ||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, fills their hearts, and Maya is their servant.

Hari daasaa kaa daasu hoi param padaarathu tisu ||

One who becomes the slave of the Lord's slaves, obtains the greatest treasure.

Jo bole pooraa satiguroo so paramesari su(nn)iaa ||

Whatever the Perfect True Guru says, the Transcendent Lord hears.

Soee varatiaa jagat mahi ghati ghati mukhi bha(nn)iaa ||

It pervades and permeates the whole world, and it is on the mouth of each and every being.

Bahutu vadiaaeeaa saahibai nah jaahee ga(nn)eeaa ||

So numerous are the great glories of the Lord, they cannot even be counted.

ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

अपणा आपु न पछाणई हरि प्रभु जाता दूरि ॥

Apa(nn)aa aapu na pachhaa(nn)aee hari prbhu jaataa doori ||

He does not understand himself; he believes the Lord God to be far away.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਸਰੀ ਕਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥

गुर की सेवा विसरी किउ मनु रहै हजूरि ॥

Gur kee sevaa visaree kiu manu rahai hajoori ||

He forgets to serve the Guru; how can his mind remain in the Lord's Presence?

मनमुखि जनमु गवाइआ झूठै लालचि कूरि ॥

Manamukhi janamu gavaaiaa jhoothai laalachi koori ||

The self-willed manmukh wastes away his life in worthless greed and falsehood.

Naanak bakhasi milaaianu sachai sabadi hadoori ||1||

O Nanak, the Lord forgives, and blends them with Himself; through the True Word of the Shabad, He is ever-present. ||1||

हरि प्रभु सचा सोहिला गुरमुखि नामु गोविंदु ॥

Hari prbhu sachaa sohilaa guramukhi naamu govinddu ||

True is the Praise of the Lord God; the Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord of the Universe.

अनदिनु नामु सलाहणा हरि जपिआ मनि आनंदु ॥

Anadinu naamu salaaha(nn)aa hari japiaa mani aananddu ||

Praising the Naam night and day, and meditating on the Lord, the mind becomes blissful.

वडभागी हरि पाइआ पूरनु परमानंदु ॥

Vadabhaagee hari paaiaa pooranu paramaananddu ||

By great good fortune, I have found the Lord, the perfect embodiment of supreme bliss.

Jan naanak naamu salaahiaa bahu(rr)i na mani tani bhanggu ||2||

Servant Nanak praises the Naam; his mind and body shall never again be shattered. ||2||

कोई निंदकु होवै सतिगुरू का फिरि सरणि गुर आवै ॥

Koee ninddaku hovai satiguroo kaa phiri sara(nn)i gur aavai ||

If someone slanders the True Guru, and then comes seeking the Guru's Protection

ਪਿਛਲੇ ਗੁਨਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਰਲਾਵੈ ॥

पिछले गुनह सतिगुरु बखसि लए सतसंगति नालि रलावै ॥

Pichhale gunah satiguru bakhasi lae satasanggati naali ralaavai ||

The True Guru forgives him for his past sins, and unites him with the Saints' Congregation.

ਜਿਉ ਮੀਹਿ ਵੁਠੈ ਗਲੀਆ ਨਾਲਿਆ ਟੋਭਿਆ ਕਾ ਜਲੁ ਜਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਮਿਲਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

जिउ मीहि वुठै गलीआ नालिआ टोभिआ का जलु जाइ पवै विचि सुरसरी सुरसरी मिलत पवित्रु पावनु होइ जावै ॥

Jiu meehi vuthai galeeaa naaliaa tobhiaa kaa jalu jaai pavai vichi surasaree surasaree milat pavitru paavanu hoi jaavai ||

When the rain falls, the water in the streams, rivers and ponds flows into the Ganges; flowing into the Ganges, it is made sacred and pure.

ਏਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਤੜ ਆਵੈ ॥

एह वडिआई सतिगुर निरवैर विचि जितु मिलिऐ तिसना भुख उतरै हरि सांति तड़ आवै ॥

Eh vadiaaee satigur niravair vichi jitu miliai tisanaa bhukh utarai hari saanti ta(rr) aavai ||

Such is the glorious greatness of the True Guru, who has no vengeance; meeting with Him, thirst and hunger are quenched, and instantly, one attains celestial peace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਾਹ ਕਾ ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੋ ਮੰਨੈ ਸੁ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੧੩॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥

नानक इहु अचरजु देखहु मेरे हरि सचे साह का जि सतिगुरू नो मंनै सु सभनां भावै ॥१३॥१॥ सुधु ॥

Naanak ihu acharaju dekhahu mere hari sache saah kaa ji satiguroo no mannai su sabhanaan bhaavai ||13||1|| sudhu ||

O Nanak, behold this wonder of the Lord, my True King! Everyone is pleased with one who obeys and believes in the True Guru. ||13||1|| Sudh ||
