ੴ सतिनामु करता पुरखु निरभउ निरवैरु अकाल मूरति अजूनी सैभं गुरप्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satinaamu karataa purakhu nirabhau niravairu akaal moorati ajoonee saibhann guraprsaadi ||

रामा रम रामै अंतु न पाइआ ॥

Raamaa ram raamai anttu na paaiaa ||

The Lord, the Beauteous Lord - no one has found His limits.

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਤੂ ਬਡ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हम बारिक प्रतिपारे तुमरे तू बड पुरखु पिता मेरा माइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ham baarik prtipaare tumare too bad purakhu pitaa meraa maaiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

I am a child - You cherish and sustain me. You are the Great Primal Being, my Mother and Father. ||1|| Pause ||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਸੰਖ ਅਗਮ ਹਹਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥

हरि के नाम असंख अगम हहि अगम अगम हरि राइआ ॥

Hari ke naam asankkh agam hahi agam agam hari raaiaa ||

The Names of the Lord are Countless and Unfathomable. My Sovereign Lord is Unfathomable and Incomprehensible.

ਗੁਣੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਨੀ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

गुणी गिआनी सुरति बहु कीनी इकु तिलु नही कीमति पाइआ ॥१॥

Gu(nn)ee giaanee surati bahu keenee iku tilu nahee keemati paaiaa ||1||

The virtuous and the spiritual teachers have given it great thought, but they have not found even an iota of His Value. ||1||

ਗੋਬਿਦ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਸਦ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

गोबिद गुण गोबिद सद गावहि गुण गोबिद अंतु न पाइआ ॥

Gobid gu(nn) gobid sad gaavahi gu(nn) gobid anttu na paaiaa ||

They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the Lord of the Universe forever. They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, but they do not find His limits.

ਤੂ ਅਮਿਤਿ ਅਤੋਲੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਹੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਥਾਹ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥

तू अमिति अतोलु अपर्मपर सुआमी बहु जपीऐ थाह न पाइआ ॥२॥

Too amiti atolu aparamppar suaamee bahu japeeai thaah na paaiaa ||2||

You are Immeasurable, Unweighable, and Infinite, O Lord and Master; no matter how much one may meditate on You, Your Depth cannot be fathomed. ||2||

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਜਨ ਮਾਧੌ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥

उसतति करहि तुमरी जन माधौ गुन गावहि हरि राइआ ॥

Usatati karahi tumaree jan maadhau gun gaavahi hari raaiaa ||

Lord, Your humble servants praise You, singing Your Glorious Praises, O Sovereign Lord.

ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਮ ਮੀਨੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

तुम्ह जल निधि हम मीने तुमरे तेरा अंतु न कतहू पाइआ ॥३॥

Tumh jal nidhi ham meene tumare teraa anttu na katahoo paaiaa ||3||

You are the ocean of water, and I am Your fish. No one has ever found Your limits. ||3||

ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਧਸੂਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ॥

जन कउ क्रिपा करहु मधसूदन हरि देवहु नामु जपाइआ ॥

Jan kau kripaa karahu madhasoodan hari devahu naamu japaaiaa ||

Please be Kind to Your humble servant, Lord; please bless me with the meditation of Your Name.

ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥

मै मूरख अंधुले नामु टेक है जन नानक गुरमुखि पाइआ ॥४॥१॥

Mai moorakh anddhule naamu tek hai jan naanak guramukhi paaiaa ||4||1||

I am a blind fool; Your Name is my only Support. Servant Nanak, as Gurmukh, has found it. ||4||1||

Hari janu gun gaavat hasiaa ||

The humble servant of the Lord sings the Lord's Praise, and blossoms forth.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਨੀ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि हरि भगति बनी मति गुरमति धुरि मसतकि प्रभि लिखिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari bhagati banee mati guramati dhuri masataki prbhi likhiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

My intellect is embellished with devotion to the Lord, Har, Har, through the Guru's Teachings. This is the destiny which God has recorded on my forehead. ||1|| Pause ||

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਗ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ॥

गुर के पग सिमरउ दिनु राती मनि हरि हरि हरि बसिआ ॥

Gur ke pag simarau dinu raatee mani hari hari hari basiaa ||

I meditate in remembrance on the Guru's Feet, day and night. The Lord, Har, Har, Har, comes to dwell in my mind.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਗਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਘਸਿ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਜਸੁ ਘਸਿਆ ॥੧॥

हरि हरि हरि कीरति जगि सारी घसि चंदनु जसु घसिआ ॥१॥

Hari hari hari keerati jagi saaree ghasi chanddanu jasu ghasiaa ||1||

The Praise of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, is Excellent and Sublime in this world. His Praise is the sandalwood paste which I rub. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਖੋਜਿ ਪਇਆ ॥

हरि जन हरि हरि हरि लिव लाई सभि साकत खोजि पइआ ॥

Hari jan hari hari hari liv laaee sabhi saakat khoji paiaa ||

The humble servant of the Lord is lovingly attuned to the Lord, Har, Har, Har; all the faithless cynics pursue him.

ਜਿਉ ਕਿਰਤ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਚਲਿਓ ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਪਗੁ ਨਾਗਨਿ ਛੁਹਿ ਜਲਿਆ ॥੨॥

जिउ किरत संजोगि चलिओ नर निंदकु पगु नागनि छुहि जलिआ ॥२॥

Jiu kirat sanjjogi chalio nar ninddaku pagu naagani chhuhi jaliaa ||2||

The slanderous person acts in accordance with the record of his past deeds; his foot trips over the snake, and he is stung by its bite. ||2||

ਜਨ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਜਨ ਰਖਿਆ ॥

जन के तुम्ह हरि राखे सुआमी तुम्ह जुगि जुगि जन रखिआ ॥

Jan ke tumh hari raakhe suaamee tumh jugi jugi jan rakhiaa ||

O my Lord and Master, You are the Saving Grace, the Protector of Your humble servants. You protect them, age after age.

ਕਹਾ ਭਇਆ ਦੈਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਸਭ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਝਰਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥੩॥

कहा भइआ दैति करी बखीली सभ करि करि झरि परिआ ॥३॥

Kahaa bhaiaa daiti karee bakheelee sabh kari kari jhari pariaa ||3||

What does it matter, if a demon speaks evil? By doing so, he only gets frustrated. ||3||

ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਏ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ॥

जेते जीअ जंत प्रभि कीए सभि कालै मुखि ग्रसिआ ॥

Jete jeea jantt prbhi keee sabhi kaalai mukhi grsiaa ||

All the beings and creatures created by God are caught in the mouth of Death.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥

हरि जन हरि हरि हरि प्रभि राखे जन नानक सरनि पइआ ॥४॥२॥

Hari jan hari hari hari prbhi raakhe jan naanak sarani paiaa ||4||2||

The humble servants of the Lord are protected by the Lord God, Har, Har, Har; servant Nanak seeks His Sanctuary. ||4||2||

Mere man japu japi jagannaathe ||

O my mind, chant and meditate on the Master of the Universe.

ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर उपदेसि हरि नामु धिआइओ सभि किलबिख दुख लाथे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur upadesi hari naamu dhiaaio sabhi kilabikh dukh laathe ||1|| rahaau ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, meditate on the Lord's Name, and be rid of all the painful past sins. ||1|| Pause ||

ਰਸਨਾ ਏਕ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਬਹੁ ਰਸੁਨਥੇ ॥

रसना एक जसु गाइ न साकै बहु कीजै बहु रसुनथे ॥

Rasanaa ek jasu gaai na saakai bahu keejai bahu rasunathe ||

I have only one tongue - I cannot sing His Praises. Please bless me with many, many tongues.

ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲ ਸਭਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਨ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਨਥੇ ॥੧॥

बार बार खिनु पल सभि गावहि गुन कहि न सकहि प्रभ तुमनथे ॥१॥

Baar baar khinu pal sabhi gaavahi gun kahi na sakahi prbh tumanathe ||1||

Again and again, each and every instant, with all of them, I would sing His Glorious Praises; but even then, I would not be able to sing all of Your Praises, God. ||1||

हम बहु प्रीति लगी प्रभ सुआमी हम लोचह प्रभु दिखनथे ॥

Ham bahu preeti lagee prbh suaamee ham lochah prbhu dikhanathe ||

I am so deeply in love with God, my Lord and Master; I long to see God's Vision.

ਤੁਮ ਬਡ ਦਾਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੀਅਨ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਹਮ ਬਿਰਥੇ ॥੨॥

तुम बड दाते जीअ जीअन के तुम जानहु हम बिरथे ॥२॥

Tum bad daate jeea jeean ke tum jaanahu ham birathe ||2||

You are the Great Giver of all beings and creatures; only You know our inner pain. ||2||

ਕੋਈ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਤਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਕਹੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਆ ਦਿਨਥੇ ॥

कोई मारगु पंथु बतावै प्रभ का कहु तिन कउ किआ दिनथे ॥

Koee maaragu pantthu bataavai prbh kaa kahu tin kau kiaa dinathe ||

If only someone would show me the Way, the Path of God. Tell me - what could I give him?

ਸਭੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਅਰਪਿ ਅਰਾਪਉ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਥੇ ॥੩॥

सभु तनु मनु अरपउ अरपि अरापउ कोई मेलै प्रभ मिलथे ॥३॥

Sabhu tanu manu arapau arapi araapau koee melai prbh milathe ||3||

I would surrender, offer and dedicate all my body and mind to him; if only someone would unite me in God's Union! ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਮ ਤੁਛ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਰਨਥੇ ॥

हरि के गुन बहुत बहुत बहु सोभा हम तुछ करि करि बरनथे ॥

Hari ke gun bahut bahut bahu sobhaa ham tuchh kari kari baranathe ||

The Glorious Praises of the Lord are so many and numerous; I can describe only a tiny bit of them.

ਹਮਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਮਰਥੇ ॥੪॥੩॥

हमरी मति वसगति प्रभ तुमरै जन नानक के प्रभ समरथे ॥४॥३॥

Hamaree mati vasagati prbh tumarai jan naanak ke prbh samarathe ||4||3||

My intellect is under Your control, God; You are the All-powerful Lord God of servant Nanak. ||4||3||

मेरे मन जपि हरि गुन अकथ सुनथई ॥

Mere man japi hari gun akath sunathaee ||

O my mind, chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord, which are said to be inexpressible.

ਧਰਮੁ ਅਰਥੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਮੋਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਨ ਪੀਛੈ ਲਗਿ ਫਿਰਥਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

धरमु अरथु सभु कामु मोखु है जन पीछै लगि फिरथई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Dharamu arathu sabhu kaamu mokhu hai jan peechhai lagi phirathaee ||1|| rahaau ||

Righteousness and Dharmic faith, success and prosperity, pleasure, the fulfillment of desires and liberation - all follow the humble servant of the Lord like a shadow. ||1||Pause||

ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਡਭਾਗ ਮਥਈ ॥

सो हरि हरि नामु धिआवै हरि जनु जिसु बडभाग मथई ॥

So hari hari naamu dhiaavai hari janu jisu badabhaag mathaee ||

That humble servant of the Lord who has such good fortune written on his forehead meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਜਹ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਤਹ ਛੁਟੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਥਈ ॥੧॥

जह दरगहि प्रभु लेखा मागै तह छुटै नामु धिआइथई ॥१॥

Jah daragahi prbhu lekhaa maagai tah chhutai naamu dhiaaithaee ||1||

In that Court, where God calls for the accounts, there, you shall be saved only by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਹਮਰੇ ਦੋਖ ਬਹੁ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਗਥਈ ॥

हमरे दोख बहु जनम जनम के दुखु हउमै मैलु लगथई ॥

Hamare dokh bahu janam janam ke dukhu haumai mailu lagathaee ||

I am stained with the filth of the mistakes of countless lifetimes, the pain and pollution of egotism.

ਗੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਵਾਏ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਗਥਈ ॥੨॥

गुरि धारि क्रिपा हरि जलि नावाए सभ किलबिख पाप गथई ॥२॥

Guri dhaari kripaa hari jali naavaae sabh kilabikh paap gathaee ||2||

Showering His Mercy, the Guru bathed me in the Water of the Lord, and all my sins and mistakes were taken away. ||2||

जन कै रिद अंतरि प्रभु सुआमी जन हरि हरि नामु भजथई ॥

Jan kai rid anttari prbhu suaamee jan hari hari naamu bhajathaee ||

God, our Lord and Master, is deep within the hearts of His humble servants. They vibrate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

जह अंती अउसरु आइ बनतु है तह राखै नामु साथई ॥३॥

Jah anttee ausaru aai banatu hai tah raakhai naamu saathaee ||3||

And when that very last moment comes, then the Naam is our Best Friend and Protector. ||3||

Your humble servants sing Your Praises, O Lord, Har, Har; they chant and meditate on the Lord God, the Master of the Universe.

अउरु कोई निंद करै हरि जन की प्रभु ता का कहिआ इकु तिलु नही मानै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Auru koee nindd karai hari jan kee prbhu taa kaa kahiaa iku tilu nahee maanai ||1|| rahaau ||

If someone slanders the humble servant of the Lord, God does not believe even a tiny bit of what he says. ||1|| Pause ||

अउर सभ तिआगि सेवा करि अचुत जो सभ ते ऊच ठाकुरु भगवानै ॥

Aur sabh tiaagi sevaa kari achut jo sabh te uch thaakuru bhagavaanai ||

So give up everything else, and serve the Imperishable; The Lord God, our Lord and Master, is the Highest of all.

हरि सेवा ते कालु जोहि न साकै चरनी आइ पवै हरि जानै ॥१॥

Hari sevaa te kaalu johi na saakai charanee aai pavai hari jaanai ||1||

When you serve the Lord, Death cannot even see you. It comes and falls at the feet of those who know the Lord. ||1||

No one can equal them; their devotional worship is accepted by my God. ||2||

हरि के चोज विडान देखु जन जो खोटा खरा इक निमख पछानै ॥

Hari ke choj vidaan dekhu jan jo khotaa kharaa ik nimakh pachhaanai ||

So behold the Wondrous and Amazing Play of the Lord. In an instant, He distinguishes the genuine from the counterfeit.

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਰਿਦ ਸੁਧ ਮਿਲੇ ਖੋਟੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੈ ॥੩॥

ता ते जन कउ अनदु भइआ है रिद सुध मिले खोटे पछुतानै ॥३॥

Taa te jan kau anadu bhaiaa hai rid sudh mile khote pachhutaanai ||3||

And that is why His humble servant is in bliss. Those of pure heart meet together, while the evil ones regret and repent. ||3||

तुम हरि दाते समरथ सुआमी इकु मागउ तुझ पासहु हरि दानै ॥

Tum hari daate samarath suaamee iku maagau tujh paasahu hari daanai ||

Lord, You are the Great Giver, our All-powerful Lord and Master; O Lord, I beg for only one gift from You.

Mohi doojee naahee thaur jisu pahi ham jaavahage ||2||

Those devotees who are pleasing to the Lord - the Lord is pleasing to them.

Jotee joti milaai joti rali jaavahage ||3||

Their light merges into the Light; the lights are merged and blended together. ||3||

Hari aape hoi kripaalu aapi liv laavahige ||

The Lord Himself has shown mercy; He lovingly attunes me to Himself.

I am not concerned with any other water; please bless this songbird with a Drop of Your Water, Lord. ||1||

Saphal saphal saphal darasu re parasi parasi gun gaaeeai ||

Fruitful, fruitful, fruitful is the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; touching His Touch, I sing His Glorious Praises.

O Nanak, one's essence is blended into the Essence; the diamond of the mind is pierced through by the Diamond of the Lord. ||2||2||

Brahma, Shiva, the Siddhas, the silent sages and Indra beg for the charity of His Praise and devotion to Him. ||1||

Jog giaan dhiaan sekhanaagai sagal japahi taranggee ||

Yogis, spiritual teachers, meditators and the thousand-headed serpent all meditate on the Waves of God.

It ut dah disi ravio mer tinahi samaani ||1||

Here and there, and in the ten directions You are pervading, in the mountain and the blade of grass. ||1||

Wherever I look, I see the Lord, the Supreme Lord, the Primal Being.

गिआन धिआन मान दान मन रसिक रसन नामु जपत तह पाप खंडली ॥१॥

Giaan dhiaan maan daan man rasik rasan naamu japat tah paap khanddalee ||1||

Spiritual wisdom, meditation, faith and charity are there; their minds savor the Taste of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Chanting it, sins are destroyed. ||1||

जोग जुगति गिआन भुगति सुरति सबद तत बेते जपु तपु अखंडली ॥

Jog jugati giaan bhugati surati sabad tat bete japu tapu akhanddalee ||

This is the technology of Yoga, spiritual wisdom, devotion, intuitive knowledge of the Shabad, certain knowledge of the Essence of Reality, chanting and unbroken intensive meditation.

ओति पोति मिलि जोति नानक कछू दुखु न डंडली ॥२॥२॥५॥

Oti poti mili joti naanak kachhoo dukhu na danddalee ||2||2||5||

Through and through, O Nanak, merging into the Light, you shall never again suffer pain and punishment. ||2||2||5||

Vishnu, Shiva, the Siddhas, the silent sages and Indra - at whose door should I seek sanctuary? ||1||

काहू पहि राजु काहू पहि सुरगा कोटि मधे मुकति कहउ ॥

Kaahoo pahi raaju kaahoo pahi suragaa koti madhe mukati kahau ||

Some have power and influence, and some are blessed with heavenly paradise, but out of millions, will anyone find liberation?

Saadhasanggi japi nisangg jamakaalu tisu na khaavano ||1||

Whoever chants and meditates in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, shall undoubtedly escape being consumed by the Messenger of Death. ||1||

Mukati jugati anik sookh hari bhagati lavai na laavano ||

Liberation, the key to success, and all sorts of comforts do not equal loving devotional worship of the Lord.

Raamaa ram raamo suni manu bheejai ||

Hearing the Name of the Lord, the All-pervading Lord, my mind is drenched with joy.

हरि हरि नामु अम्रितु रसु मीठा गुरमति सहजे पीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari hari naamu ammmritu rasu meethaa guramati sahaje peejai ||1|| rahaau ||

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is Ambrosial Nectar, the most Sweet and Sublime Essence; through the Guru's Teachings, drink it in with intuitive ease. ||1|| Pause ||

कासट महि जिउ है बैसंतरु मथि संजमि काढि कढीजै ॥

Kaasat mahi jiu hai baisanttaru mathi sanjjami kaadhi kadheejai ||

The potential energy of fire is within the wood; it is released if you know how to rub it and generate friction.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਤਤੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲਈਜੈ ॥੧॥

राम नामु है जोति सबाई ततु गुरमति काढि लईजै ॥१॥

Raam naamu hai joti sabaaee tatu guramati kaadhi laeejai ||1||

In just the same way, the Lord's Name is the Light within all; the Essence is extracted by following the Guru's Teachings. ||1||

ਨਉ ਦਰਵਾਜ ਨਵੇ ਦਰ ਫੀਕੇ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਦਸਵੇ ਚੁਈਜੈ ॥

नउ दरवाज नवे दर फीके रसु अम्रितु दसवे चुईजै ॥

Nau daravaaj nave dar pheeke rasu ammmritu dasave chueejai ||

There are nine doors, but the taste of these nine doors is bland and insipid. The Essence of Ambrosial Nectar trickles down through the Tenth Door.

क्रिपा क्रिपा किरपा करि पिआरे गुर सबदी हरि रसु पीजै ॥२॥

Kripaa kripaa kirapaa kari piaare gur sabadee hari rasu peejai ||2||

Please take pity on me - be kind and compassionate, O my Beloved, that I may drink in the Sublime Essence of the Lord, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||

काइआ नगरु नगरु है नीको विचि सउदा हरि रसु कीजै ॥

Kaaiaa nagaru nagaru hai neeko vichi saudaa hari rasu keejai ||

The body-village is the most sublime and exalted village, in which the merchandise of the Lord's Sublime Essence is traded.

Ratan laal amol amolak satigur sevaa leejai ||3||

The most precious and priceless gems and jewels are obtained by serving the True Guru. ||3||

सतिगुरु अगमु अगमु है ठाकुरु भरि सागर भगति करीजै ॥

Satiguru agamu agamu hai thaakuru bhari saagar bhagati kareejai ||

The True Guru is Inaccessible; Inaccessible is our Lord and Master. He is the overflowing Ocean of bliss - worship Him with loving devotion.

क्रिपा क्रिपा करि दीन हम सारिंग इक बूंद नामु मुखि दीजै ॥४॥

Kripaa kripaa kari deen ham saaringg ik boondd naamu mukhi deejai ||4||

Please take pity on me, and be Merciful to this meek song-bird; please pour a drop of Your Name into my mouth. ||4||

लालनु लालु लालु है रंगनु मनु रंगन कउ गुर दीजै ॥

Laalanu laalu laalu hai rangganu manu ranggan kau gur deejai ||

O Beloved Lord, please color my mind with the Deep Crimson Color of Your Love; I have surrendered my mind to the Guru.

राम राम राम रंगि राते रस रसिक गटक नित पीजै ॥५॥

Raam raam raam ranggi raate ras rasik gatak nit peejai ||5||

Those who are imbued with the Love of the Lord, Raam, Raam, Raam, continually drink in this essence in big gulps, savoring its sweet taste. ||5||

बसुधा सपत दीप है सागर कढि कंचनु काढि धरीजै ॥

Basudhaa sapat deep hai saagar kadhi kancchanu kaadhi dhareejai ||

If all the gold of the seven continents and the oceans was taken out and placed before them,

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਇਨਹੁ ਨ ਬਾਛਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੬॥

मेरे ठाकुर के जन इनहु न बाछहि हरि मागहि हरि रसु दीजै ॥६॥

Mere thaakur ke jan inahu na baachhahi hari maagahi hari rasu deejai ||6||

The humble servants of my Lord and Master would not even want it. They beg for the Lord to bless them with the Lord's Sublime Essence. ||6||

ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਸਦ ਭੂਖੇ ਨਿਤ ਭੂਖਨ ਭੂਖ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥

साकत नर प्रानी सद भूखे नित भूखन भूख करीजै ॥

Saakat nar praanee sad bhookhe nit bhookhan bhookh kareejai ||

The faithless cynics and mortal beings remain hungry forever; they continually cry out in hunger.

ਧਾਵਤੁ ਧਾਇ ਧਾਵਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਖ ਕੋਸਨ ਕਉ ਬਿਥਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੭॥

धावतु धाइ धावहि प्रीति माइआ लख कोसन कउ बिथि दीजै ॥७॥

Dhaavatu dhaai dhaavahi preeti maaiaa lakh kosan kau bithi deejai ||7||

They hurry and run, and wander all around, caught in the love of Maya; they cover hundreds of thousands of miles in their wanderings. ||7||

हरि हरि हरि हरि हरि जन ऊतम किआ उपमा तिन्ह दीजै ॥

Hari hari hari hari hari jan utam kiaa upamaa tinh deejai ||

The humble servants of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, Har, are sublime and exalted. What praise can we bestow upon them?

राम नाम तुलि अउरु न उपमा जन नानक क्रिपा करीजै ॥८॥१॥

Raam naam tuli auru na upamaa jan naanak kripaa kareejai ||8||1||

Nothing else can equal the Glory of the Lord's Name; please bless servant Nanak with Your Grace. ||8||1||

हम निरगुणी मनूर अति फीके मिलि सतिगुर पारसु कीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ham niragu(nn)ee manoor ati pheeke mili satigur paarasu keejai ||1|| rahaau ||

I was unworthy, utterly useless, rusty slag; meeting with the True Guru, I was transformed by the Philosopher's Stone. ||1|| Pause ||

सुरग मुकति बैकुंठ सभि बांछहि निति आसा आस करीजै ॥

Surag mukati baikuntth sabhi baanchhahi niti aasaa aas kareejai ||

Everyone longs for paradise, liberation and heaven; all place their hopes in them.

ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਮਾਂਗਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਜੈ ॥੧॥

हरि दरसन के जन मुकति न मांगहि मिलि दरसन त्रिपति मनु धीजै ॥१॥

Hari darasan ke jan mukati na maangahi mili darasan tripati manu dheejai ||1||

The humble long for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; they do not ask for liberation. Their minds are satisfied and comforted by His Darshan. ||1||

माइआ मोहु सबलु है भारी मोहु कालख दाग लगीजै ॥

Maaiaa mohu sabalu hai bhaaree mohu kaalakh daag lageejai ||

Emotional attachment to Maya is very powerful; this attachment is a black stain which sticks.

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਮੁਰਗਾਈ ਪੰਕੁ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ॥੨॥

मेरे ठाकुर के जन अलिपत है मुकते जिउ मुरगाई पंकु न भीजै ॥२॥

Mere thaakur ke jan alipat hai mukate jiu muragaaee pankku na bheejai ||2||

The humble servants of my Lord and Master are unattached and liberated. They are like ducks, whose feathers do not get wet. ||2||

ਚੰਦਨ ਵਾਸੁ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਮ ਵੇੜੀ ਕਿਵ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥

चंदन वासु भुइअंगम वेड़ी किव मिलीऐ चंदनु लीजै ॥

Chanddan vaasu bhuianggam ve(rr)ee kiv mileeai chanddanu leejai ||

The fragrant sandalwood tree is encircled by snakes; how can anyone get to the sandalwood?

ਕਾਢਿ ਖੜਗੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਛੇਦਿ ਛੇਦਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੩॥

काढि खड़गु गुर गिआनु करारा बिखु छेदि छेदि रसु पीजै ॥३॥

Kaadhi kha(rr)agu gur giaanu karaaraa bikhu chhedi chhedi rasu peejai ||3||

Drawing out the Mighty Sword of the Guru's Spiritual Wisdom, I slaughter and kill the poisonous snakes, and drink in the Sweet Nectar. ||3||

ਆਨਿ ਆਨਿ ਸਮਧਾ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਨੀ ਪਲੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ ਭਸਮ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥

आनि आनि समधा बहु कीनी पलु बैसंतर भसम करीजै ॥

Aani aani samadhaa bahu keenee palu baisanttar bhasam kareejai ||

You may gather wood and stack it in a pile, but in an instant, fire reduces it to ashes.

ਮਹਾ ਉਗ੍ਰ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਕੀਨੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਲੂਕੀ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥

महा उग्र पाप साकत नर कीने मिलि साधू लूकी दीजै ॥४॥

Mahaa ugr paap saakat nar keene mili saadhoo lookee deejai ||4||

The faithless cynic gathers the most horrendous sins, but meeting with the Holy Saint, they are placed in the fire. ||4||

ਸਾਧੂ ਸਾਧ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਨੀਕੇ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥

साधू साध साध जन नीके जिन अंतरि नामु धरीजै ॥

Saadhoo saadh saadh jan neeke jin anttari naamu dhareejai ||

The Holy, Saintly devotees are sublime and exalted. They enshrine the Naam, the Name of the Lord, deep within.

ਪਰਸ ਨਿਪਰਸੁ ਭਏ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ਦਿਖੀਜੈ ॥੫॥

परस निपरसु भए साधू जन जनु हरि भगवानु दिखीजै ॥५॥

Paras niparasu bhae saadhoo jan janu hari bhagavaanu dikheejai ||5||

By the touch of the Holy and the humble servants of the Lord, the Lord God is seen. ||5||

ਸਾਕਤ ਸੂਤੁ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਰਝੀ ਭਰਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਨੁ ਤਨੀਜੈ ॥

साकत सूतु बहु गुरझी भरिआ किउ करि तानु तनीजै ॥

Saakat sootu bahu gurajhee bhariaa kiu kari taanu taneejai ||

The thread of the faithless cynic is totally knotted and tangled; how can anything be woven with it?

ਤੰਤੁ ਸੂਤੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੬॥

तंतु सूतु किछु निकसै नाही साकत संगु न कीजै ॥६॥

Tanttu sootu kichhu nikasai naahee saakat sanggu na keejai ||6||

This thread cannot be woven into yarn; do not associate with those faithless cynics. ||6||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਨੀਕੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥

सतिगुर साधसंगति है नीकी मिलि संगति रामु रवीजै ॥

Satigur saadhasanggati hai neekee mili sanggati raamu raveejai ||

The True Guru and the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, are exalted and sublime. Joining the Congregation, meditate on the Lord.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਮਾਣਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੭॥

अंतरि रतन जवेहर माणक गुर किरपा ते लीजै ॥७॥

Anttari ratan javehar maa(nn)ak gur kirapaa te leejai ||7||

The gems, jewels and precious stones are deep within; by Guru's Grace, they are found. ||7||

मेरा ठाकुरु वडा वडा है सुआमी हम किउ करि मिलह मिलीजै ॥

Meraa thaakuru vadaa vadaa hai suaamee ham kiu kari milah mileejai ||

My Lord and Master is Glorious and Great. How can I be united in His Union?

Naanak meli milaae guru pooraa jan kau pooranu deejai ||8||2||

O Nanak, the Perfect Guru unites His humble servant in His Union, and blesses him with perfection. ||8||2||

Basudhaa talai talai sabh upari mili saadhoo charan ruleejai ||

The earth is beneath us, and yet its dust falls down on all; let yourself be covered by the dust of the feet of the Holy.

You shall be utterly exalted, the most noble and sublime of all; the whole world will place itself at your feet. ||2||

मैनदंत निकसे गुर बचनी सारु चबि चबि हरि रसु पीजै ॥३॥

Mainadantt nikase gur bachanee saaru chabi chabi hari rasu peejai ||3||

Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, they bite with teeth of wax and chew iron, drinking in the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||3||

The Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name have spread out everywhere; the Lord bestows fame all over the world. ||4||

साधू साध साध मनि प्रीतम बिनु देखे रहि न सकीजै ॥

Saadhoo saadh saadh mani preetam binu dekhe rahi na sakeejai ||

The Beloved Lord is within the minds of the Holy, the Holy Saadhus; without seeing Him, they cannot survive.

जिउ जल मीन जलं जल प्रीति है खिनु जल बिनु फूटि मरीजै ॥५॥

Jiu jal meen jalann jal preeti hai khinu jal binu phooti mareejai ||5||

The fish in the water loves only the water. Without water, it bursts and dies in an instant. ||5||

महा अभाग अभाग है जिन के तिन साधू धूरि न पीजै ॥

Mahaa abhaag abhaag hai jin ke tin saadhoo dhoori na peejai ||

Those who have terrible luck and bad fortune do not drink in the water which washes the dust of the feet of the Holy.

तिना तिसना जलत जलत नही बूझहि डंडु धरम राइ का दीजै ॥६॥

Tinaa tisanaa jalat jalat nahee boojhahi danddu dharam raai kaa deejai ||6||

The burning fire of their desires is not extinguished; they are beaten and punished by the Righteous Judge of Dharma. ||6||

सभि तीरथ बरत जग्य पुंन कीए हिवै गालि गालि तनु छीजै ॥

Sabhi teerath barat jagy punn keee hivai gaali gaali tanu chheejai ||

You may visit all the sacred shrines, observe fasts and sacred feasts, give generously in charity and waste away the body, melting it in the snow.

अतुला तोलु राम नामु है गुरमति को पुजै न तोल तुलीजै ॥७॥

Atulaa tolu raam naamu hai guramati ko pujai na tol tuleejai ||7||

The weight of the Lord's Name is unweighable, according to the Guru's Teachings; nothing can equal its weight. ||7||

ब्रहम नाम गुण साख तरोवर नित चुनि चुनि पूज करीजै ॥

Brham naam gu(nn) saakh tarovar nit chuni chuni pooj kareejai ||

God's Name is the tree, and His Glorious Virtues are the branches. Picking and gathering up the fruit, I worship Him.

Aatam deu deu hai aatamu rasi laagai pooj kareejai ||1||

The soul is divine; divine is the soul. Worship Him with love. ||1||

Bibek budhi sabh jag mahi niramal bichari bichari rasu peejai ||

One of keen intellect and precise understanding is immaculate in all this world. In thoughtful consideration, he drinks in the sublime essence.

गुर परसादि पदारथु पाइआ सतिगुर कउ इहु मनु दीजै ॥२॥

Gur parasaadi padaarathu paaiaa satigur kau ihu manu deejai ||2||

By Guru's Grace, the treasure is found; dedicate this mind to the True Guru. ||2||

निरमोलकु अति हीरो नीको हीरै हीरु बिधीजै ॥

Niramolaku ati heero neeko heerai heeru bidheejai ||

Priceless and utterly sublime is the Diamond of the Lord. This Diamond pierces the diamond of the mind.

मनु मोती सालु है गुर सबदी जितु हीरा परखि लईजै ॥३॥

Manu motee saalu hai gur sabadee jitu heeraa parakhi laeejai ||3||

The mind becomes the jeweler, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad; it appraises the Diamond of the Lord. ||3||

संगति संत संगि लगि ऊचे जिउ पीप पलास खाइ लीजै ॥

Sanggati santt sanggi lagi uche jiu peep palaas khaai leejai ||

Attaching oneself to the Society of the Saints, one is exalted and uplifted, as the palaas tree is absorbed by the peepal tree.

सभ नर महि प्रानी ऊतमु होवै राम नामै बासु बसीजै ॥४॥

Sabh nar mahi praanee utamu hovai raam naamai baasu baseejai ||4||

That mortal being is supreme among all people, who is perfumed by the fragrance of the Lord's Name. ||4||

Niramal niramal karam bahu keene nit saakhaa haree ja(rr)eejai ||

One who continually acts in goodness and immaculate purity, sprouts green branches in great abundance.

धरमु फुलु फलु गुरि गिआनु द्रिड़ाइआ बहकार बासु जगि दीजै ॥५॥

Dharamu phulu phalu guri giaanu dri(rr)aaiaa bahakaar baasu jagi deejai ||5||

The Guru has taught me that Dharmic faith is the flower, and spiritual wisdom is the fruit; this fragrance permeates the world. ||5||

एक जोति एको मनि वसिआ सभ ब्रहम द्रिसटि इकु कीजै ॥

Ek joti eko mani vasiaa sabh brham drisati iku keejai ||

The One, the Light of the One, abides within my mind; God, the One, is seen in all.

आतम रामु सभ एकै है पसरे सभ चरन तले सिरु दीजै ॥६॥

Aatam raamu sabh ekai hai pasare sabh charan tale siru deejai ||6||

The One Lord, the Supreme Soul, is spread out everywhere; all place their heads beneath His Feet. ||6||

नाम बिना नकटे नर देखहु तिन घसि घसि नाक वढीजै ॥

Naam binaa nakate nar dekhahu tin ghasi ghasi naak vadheejai ||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, people look like criminals with their noses cut off; bit by bit, their noses are cut off.

साकत नर अहंकारी कहीअहि बिनु नावै ध्रिगु जीवीजै ॥७॥

Saakat nar ahankkaaree kaheeahi binu naavai dhrigu jeeveejai ||7||

The faithless cynics are called egotistical; without the Name, their lives are cursed. ||7||

जब लगु सासु सासु मन अंतरि ततु बेगल सरनि परीजै ॥

Jab lagu saasu saasu man anttari tatu begal sarani pareejai ||

As long as the breath breathes through the mind deep within, hurry and seek God's Sanctuary.

Please shower Your Kind Mercy and take pity upon Nanak, that he may wash the feet of the Holy. ||8||4||

किलबिख दहन होहि खिन अंतरि मेरे ठाकुर किरपा कीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Kilabikh dahan hohi khin anttari mere thaakur kirapaa keejai ||1|| rahaau ||

May my sins be burnt away in an instant; O my Lord and Master, please bless me with Your Mercy. ||1|| Pause ||

मंगत जन दीन खरे दरि ठाढे अति तरसन कउ दानु दीजै ॥

Manggat jan deen khare dari thaadhe ati tarasan kau daanu deejai ||

Traahi traahi sarani prbh aae mo kau guramati naamu dri(rr)eejai ||1||

Save me, save me, O God - I have come to Your Sanctuary. Please implant the Guru's Teachings, and the Naam within me. ||1||

काम करोधु नगर महि सबला नित उठि उठि जूझु करीजै ॥

Kaam karodhu nagar mahi sabalaa nit uthi uthi joojhu kareejai ||

Sexual desire and anger are very powerful in the body-village; I rise up to fight the battle against them.

अंगीकारु करहु रखि लेवहु गुर पूरा काढि कढीजै ॥२॥

Anggeekaaru karahu rakhi levahu gur pooraa kaadhi kadheejai ||2||

Please make me Your Own and save me; through the Perfect Guru, I drive them out. ||2||

अंतरि अगनि सबल अति बिखिआ हिव सीतलु सबदु गुर दीजै ॥

Anttari agani sabal ati bikhiaa hiv seetalu sabadu gur deejai ||

The powerful fire of corruption is raging violently within; the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the ice water which cools and soothes.

तनि मनि सांति होइ अधिकाई रोगु काटै सूखि सवीजै ॥३॥

Tani mani saanti hoi adhikaaee rogu kaatai sookhi saveejai ||3||

My mind and body are calm and tranquil; the disease has been cured, and now I sleep in peace. ||3||

जिउ सूरजु किरणि रविआ सरब ठाई सभ घटि घटि रामु रवीजै ॥

Jiu sooraju kira(nn)i raviaa sarab thaaee sabh ghati ghati raamu raveejai ||

As the rays of the sun spread out everywhere, the Lord pervades each and every heart.

साधू साध मिले रसु पावै ततु निज घरि बैठिआ पीजै ॥४॥

Saadhoo saadh mile rasu paavai tatu nij ghari baithiaa peejai ||4||

Meeting the Holy Saint, one drinks in the Sublime Essence of the Lord; sitting in the home of your own inner being, drink in the essence. ||4||

ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਜਿਉ ਚਕਵੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੂਰੀਜੈ ॥

जन कउ प्रीति लगी गुर सेती जिउ चकवी देखि सूरीजै ॥

Jan kau preeti lagee gur setee jiu chakavee dekhi sooreejai ||

The humble being is in love with the Guru, like the chakvi bird which loves to see the sun.

ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਭ ਨਿਰਖੀ ਮੁਖੁ ਕਾਢੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੫॥

निरखत निरखत रैनि सभ निरखी मुखु काढै अम्रितु पीजै ॥५॥

Nirakhat nirakhat raini sabh nirakhee mukhu kaadhai ammmritu peejai ||5||

She watches, and keeps on watching all through the night; and when the sun shows its face, she drinks in the Amrit. ||5||

ਸਾਕਤ ਸੁਆਨ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥

साकत सुआन कहीअहि बहु लोभी बहु दुरमति मैलु भरीजै ॥

Saakat suaan kaheeahi bahu lobhee bahu duramati mailu bhareejai ||

The faithless cynic is said to be very greedy - he is a dog. He is overflowing with the filth and pollution of evil-mindedness.

आपन सुआइ करहि बहु बाता तिना का विसाहु किआ कीजै ॥६॥

Aapan suaai karahi bahu baataa tinaa kaa visaahu kiaa keejai ||6||

He talks excessively about his own interests. How can he be trusted? ||6||

साधू साध सरनि मिलि संगति जितु हरि रसु काढि कढीजै ॥

Saadhoo saadh sarani mili sanggati jitu hari rasu kaadhi kadheejai ||

I have sought the Sanctuary of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; I have found the Sublime Essence of the Lord.

ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਣੀਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੭॥

परउपकार बोलहि बहु गुणीआ मुखि संत भगत हरि दीजै ॥७॥

Paraupakaar bolahi bahu gu(nn)eeaa mukhi santt bhagat hari deejai ||7||

They do good deeds for others, and speak of the Lord's many Glorious Virtues; please bless me to meet these Saints, these devotees of the Lord. ||7||

ਤੂ ਅਗਮ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਇਆ ਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਖਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥

तू अगम दइआल दइआ पति दाता सभ दइआ धारि रखि लीजै ॥

Too agam daiaal daiaa pati daataa sabh daiaa dhaari rakhi leejai ||

You are the Inaccessible Lord, Kind and Compassionate, the Great Giver; please shower us with Your Mercy, and save us.

सरब जीअ जगजीवनु एको नानक प्रतिपाल करीजै ॥८॥५॥

Sarab jeea jagajeevanu eko naanak prtipaal kareejai ||8||5||

You are the Life of all the beings of the world; please cherish and sustain Nanak. ||8||5||

जब लगि सासु होइ मन अंतरि साधू धूरि पिवीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jab lagi saasu hoi man anttari saadhoo dhoori piveejai ||1|| rahaau ||

As long as there is breath deep within my mind, let me drink in the dust of the Holy. ||1|| Pause ||

संकरु नारदु सेखनाग मुनि धूरि साधू की लोचीजै ॥

Sankkaru naaradu sekhanaag muni dhoori saadhoo kee locheejai ||

Shiva, Naarad, the thousand-headed cobra king and the silent sages long for the dust of the Holy.

ਭਵਨ ਭਵਨ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਜਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਨ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥੧॥

भवन भवन पवितु होहि सभि जह साधू चरन धरीजै ॥१॥

Bhavan bhavan pavitu hohi sabhi jah saadhoo charan dhareejai ||1||

All the worlds and realms where the Holy place their feet are sanctified. ||1||

ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਜੀਐ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹੀਜੈ ॥

तजि लाज अहंकारु सभु तजीऐ मिलि साधू संगि रहीजै ॥

Taji laaj ahankkaaru sabhu tajeeai mili saadhoo sanggi raheejai ||

So let go of your shame and renounce all your egotism; join with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and remain there.

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਕਾਢਿ ਕਢੀਜੈ ॥੨॥

धरम राइ की कानि चुकावै बिखु डुबदा काढि कढीजै ॥२॥

Dharam raai kee kaani chukaavai bikhu dubadaa kaadhi kadheejai ||2||

Give up your fear of the Righteous Judge of Dharma, and you shall be lifted up and saved from drowning in the sea of poison. ||2||

भरमि सूके बहु उभि सुक कहीअहि मिलि साधू संगि हरीजै ॥

Bharami sooke bahu ubhi suk kaheeahi mili saadhoo sanggi hareejai ||

Some are standing, parched and shriveled up by their doubts; joining the Saadh Sangat, they are rejuvenated.

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਲਮੁ ਪਲੁ ਢਿਲ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਨਿ ਲਗੀਜੈ ॥੩॥

ता ते बिलमु पलु ढिल न कीजै जाइ साधू चरनि लगीजै ॥३॥

Taa te bilamu palu dhil na keejai jaai saadhoo charani lageejai ||3||

So do not delay, even for an instant - go and fall at the feet of the Holy. ||3||

राम नाम कीरतन रतन वथु हरि साधू पासि रखीजै ॥

Raam naam keeratan ratan vathu hari saadhoo paasi rakheejai ||

The Kirtan of the Praise of the Lord's Name is a priceless jewel. The Lord has given it for the Holy to keep.

ਜੋ ਬਚਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਾਢਿ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥੪॥

जो बचनु गुर सति सति करि मानै तिसु आगै काढि धरीजै ॥४॥

Jo bachanu gur sati sati kari maanai tisu aagai kaadhi dhareejai ||4||

Whoever accepts and follows the Word of the Guru's Teachings as True - this Jewel is taken out and given to him. ||4||

संतहु सुनहु सुनहु जन भाई गुरि काढी बाह कुकीजै ॥

Santtahu sunahu sunahu jan bhaaee guri kaadhee baah kukeejai ||

Listen, O Saints; listen, humble Siblings of Destiny: the Guru raises His Arms and sends out the call.

ਜੇ ਆਤਮ ਕਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਿਤ ਲੋੜਹੁ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਵੀਜੈ ॥੫॥

जे आतम कउ सुखु सुखु नित लोड़हु तां सतिगुर सरनि पवीजै ॥५॥

Je aatam kau sukhu sukhu nit lo(rr)ahu taan satigur sarani paveejai ||5||

If you long for everlasting peace and comfort for your soul, then enter the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||5||

ਜੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੋਇ ਅਤਿ ਨੀਕਾ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੀਜੈ ॥

जे वड भागु होइ अति नीका तां गुरमति नामु द्रिड़ीजै ॥

Je vad bhaagu hoi ati neekaa taan guramati naamu dri(rr)eejai ||

If you have great good fortune and are very noble, then implant the Guru's Teachings and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within.

ਸਭੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਜਗੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੬॥

सभु माइआ मोहु बिखमु जगु तरीऐ सहजे हरि रसु पीजै ॥६॥

Sabhu maaiaa mohu bikhamu jagu tareeai sahaje hari rasu peejai ||6||

Emotional attachment to Maya is totally treacherous; drinking in the Sublime Essence of the Lord, you shall easily, intuitively cross over the world-ocean. ||6||

माइआ माइआ के जो अधिकाई विचि माइआ पचै पचीजै ॥

Maaiaa maaiaa ke jo adhikaaee vichi maaiaa pachai pacheejai ||

Those who are totally in love with Maya, Maya, shall rot away in Maya.

ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਭਾਰਿ ਲਦਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੭॥

अगिआनु अंधेरु महा पंथु बिखड़ा अहंकारि भारि लदि लीजै ॥७॥

Agiaanu anddheru mahaa pantthu bikha(rr)aa ahankkaari bhaari ladi leejai ||7||

The path of ignorance and darkness is utterly treacherous; they are loaded down with the crushing load of egotism. ||7||

Naanak raam ram ramu ram ram raamai te gati keejai ||

O Nanak, chanting the Name of the Lord, the All-pervading Lord, one is emancipated.

सतिगुरु मिलै ता नामु द्रिड़ाए राम नामै रलै मिलीजै ॥८॥६॥ छका १ ॥

Satiguru milai taa naamu dri(rr)aae raam naamai ralai mileejai ||8||6|| chhakaa 1 ||

Meeting the True Guru, the Naam is implanted within; we are united and blended with the Lord's Name. ||8||6|| One Chhakaa||
