ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सति नामु करता पुरखु निरभउ निरवैरु अकाल मूरति अजूनी सैभं गुरप्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari sati naamu karataa purakhu nirabhau niravairu akaal moorati ajoonee saibhann guraprsaadi ||

ਮਾਹਾ ਮਾਹ ਮੁਮਾਰਖੀ ਚੜਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਬਸੰਤੁ ॥

माहा माह मुमारखी चड़िआ सदा बसंतु ॥

Maahaa maah mumaarakhee cha(rr)iaa sadaa basanttu ||

Among the months, blessed is this month, when spring always comes.

ਪਰਫੜੁ ਚਿਤ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਸੋਇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥੧॥

परफड़ु चित समालि सोइ सदा सदा गोबिंदु ॥१॥

Parapha(rr)u chit samaali soi sadaa sadaa gobinddu ||1||

Blossom forth, O my consciousness, contemplating the Lord of the Universe, forever and ever. ||1||


ਭੋਲਿਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥

भोलिआ हउमै सुरति विसारि ॥

Bholiaa haumai surati visaari ||

O ignorant one, forget your egotistical intellect.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਮਨ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਚਿ ਗੁਣੁ ਲੈ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हउमै मारि बीचारि मन गुण विचि गुणु लै सारि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Haumai maari beechaari man gu(nn) vichi gu(nn)u lai saari ||1|| rahaau ||

Subdue your ego, and contemplate Him in your mind; gather in the virtues of the Sublime, Virtuous Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਕਰਮ ਪੇਡੁ ਸਾਖਾ ਹਰੀ ਧਰਮੁ ਫੁਲੁ ਫਲੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥

करम पेडु साखा हरी धरमु फुलु फलु गिआनु ॥

Karam pedu saakhaa haree dharamu phulu phalu giaanu ||

Karma is the tree, the Lord's Name the branches, Dharmic faith the flowers, and spiritual wisdom the fruit.

ਪਤ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਛਾਵ ਘਣੀ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥

पत परापति छाव घणी चूका मन अभिमानु ॥२॥

Pat paraapati chhaav gha(nn)ee chookaa man abhimaanu ||2||

Realization of the Lord are the leaves, and eradication of the pride of the mind is the shade. ||2||


ਅਖੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੰਨੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਆਖਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

अखी कुदरति कंनी बाणी मुखि आखणु सचु नामु ॥

Akhee kudarati kannee baa(nn)ee mukhi aakha(nn)u sachu naamu ||

Whoever sees the Lord's Creative Power with his eyes, and hears the Guru's Bani with his ears, and utters the True Name with his mouth,

ਪਤਿ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਆ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੩॥

पति का धनु पूरा होआ लागा सहजि धिआनु ॥३॥

Pati kaa dhanu pooraa hoaa laagaa sahaji dhiaanu ||3||

Attains the perfect wealth of honor, and intuitively focuses his meditation on the Lord. ||3||


ਮਾਹਾ ਰੁਤੀ ਆਵਣਾ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

माहा रुती आवणा वेखहु करम कमाइ ॥

Maahaa rutee aava(nn)aa vekhahu karam kamaai ||

The months and the seasons come; see, and do your deeds.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰੇ ਨ ਸੂਕਹੀ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥

नानक हरे न सूकही जि गुरमुखि रहे समाइ ॥४॥१॥

Naanak hare na sookahee ji guramukhi rahe samaai ||4||1||

O Nanak, those Gurmukhs who remain merged in the Lord do not wither away; they remain green forever. ||4||1||

ਰੁਤਿ ਆਈਲੇ ਸਰਸ ਬਸੰਤ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

रुति आईले सरस बसंत माहि ॥

Ruti aaeele saras basantt maahi ||

The season of spring, so delightful, has come.

ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰਵਹਿ ਸਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਚਾਇ ॥

रंगि राते रवहि सि तेरै चाइ ॥

Ranggi raate ravahi si terai chaai ||

Those who are imbued with love for You, O Lord, chant Your Name with joy.

ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਜ ਚੜਾਵਉ ਲਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥

किसु पूज चड़ावउ लगउ पाइ ॥१॥

Kisu pooj cha(rr)aavau lagau paai ||1||

Whom else should I worship? At whose feet should I bow? ||1||


ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਹਉ ਰਾਇ ॥

तेरा दासनि दासा कहउ राइ ॥

Teraa daasani daasaa kahau raai ||

I am the slave of Your slaves, O my Sovereign Lord King.

ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जगजीवन जुगति न मिलै काइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jagajeevan jugati na milai kaai ||1|| rahaau ||

O Life of the Universe, there is no other way to meet You. ||1|| Pause ||


ਤੇਰੀ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਏਕਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਰੂਪ ॥

तेरी मूरति एका बहुतु रूप ॥

Teree moorati ekaa bahutu roop ||

You have only One Form, and yet You have countless forms.

ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਜ ਚੜਾਵਉ ਦੇਉ ਧੂਪ ॥

किसु पूज चड़ावउ देउ धूप ॥

Kisu pooj cha(rr)aavau deu dhoop ||

Which one should I worship? Before which one should I burn incense?

ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਹਾ ਪਾਇ ॥

तेरा अंतु न पाइआ कहा पाइ ॥

Teraa anttu na paaiaa kahaa paai ||

Your limits cannot be found. How can anyone find them?

ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਹਉ ਰਾਇ ॥੨॥

तेरा दासनि दासा कहउ राइ ॥२॥

Teraa daasani daasaa kahau raai ||2||

I am the slave of Your slaves, O my Sovereign Lord King. ||2||


ਤੇਰੇ ਸਠਿ ਸੰਬਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥਾ ॥

तेरे सठि स्मबत सभि तीरथा ॥

Tere sathi sambbat sabhi teerathaa ||

The cycles of years and the places of pilgrimage are Yours, O Lord.

ਤੇਰਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਾ ॥

तेरा सचु नामु परमेसरा ॥

Teraa sachu naamu paramesaraa ||

Your Name is True, O Transcendent Lord God.

ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਅਵਿਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥

तेरी गति अविगति नही जाणीऐ ॥

Teree gati avigati nahee jaa(nn)eeai ||

Your State cannot be known, O Eternal, Unchanging Lord God.

ਅਣਜਾਣਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥੩॥

अणजाणत नामु वखाणीऐ ॥३॥

A(nn)ajaa(nn)at naamu vakhaa(nn)eeai ||3||

Although You are unknown, still we chant Your Name. ||3||


ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੈ ॥

नानकु वेचारा किआ कहै ॥

Naanaku vechaaraa kiaa kahai ||

What can poor Nanak say?

ਸਭੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਏਕਸੈ ॥

सभु लोकु सलाहे एकसै ॥

Sabhu loku salaahe ekasai ||

All people praise the One Lord.

ਸਿਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੋਕਾ ਪਾਵ ਹੈ ॥

सिरु नानक लोका पाव है ॥

Siru naanak lokaa paav hai ||

Nanak places his head on the feet of such people.

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜਾਉ ਜੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਵ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥

बलिहारी जाउ जेते तेरे नाव है ॥४॥२॥

Balihaaree jaau jete tere naav hai ||4||2||

I am a sacrifice to Your Names, as many as there are, O Lord. ||4||2||


ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

बसंतु महला १ ॥

Basanttu mahalaa 1 ||

Basant, First Mehl:

ਸੁਇਨੇ ਕਾ ਚਉਕਾ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੁਆਰ ॥

सुइने का चउका कंचन कुआर ॥

Suine kaa chaukaa kancchan kuaar ||

The kitchen is golden, and the cooking pots are golden.

ਰੁਪੇ ਕੀਆ ਕਾਰਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥

रुपे कीआ कारा बहुतु बिसथारु ॥

Rupe keeaa kaaraa bahutu bisathaaru ||

The lines marking the cooking square are silver.

ਗੰਗਾ ਕਾ ਉਦਕੁ ਕਰੰਤੇ ਕੀ ਆਗਿ ॥

गंगा का उदकु करंते की आगि ॥

Ganggaa kaa udaku karantte kee aagi ||

The water is from the Ganges, and the firewood is sanctified.

ਗਰੁੜਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਦੁਧ ਸਿਉ ਗਾਡਿ ॥੧॥

गरुड़ा खाणा दुध सिउ गाडि ॥१॥

Garu(rr)aa khaa(nn)aa dudh siu gaadi ||1||

The food is soft rice, cooked in milk. ||1||


ਰੇ ਮਨ ਲੇਖੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

रे मन लेखै कबहू न पाइ ॥

Re man lekhai kabahoo na paai ||

O my mind, these things are worthless,

ਜਾਮਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

जामि न भीजै साच नाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Jaami na bheejai saach naai ||1|| rahaau ||

If you are not drenched with the True Name. ||1|| Pause ||


ਦਸ ਅਠ ਲੀਖੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

दस अठ लीखे होवहि पासि ॥

Das ath leekhe hovahi paasi ||

One may have the eighteen Puraanas written in his own hand;

ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਮੁਖਾਗਰ ਪਾਠਿ ॥

चारे बेद मुखागर पाठि ॥

Chaare bed mukhaagar paathi ||

He may recite the four Vedas by heart,

ਪੁਰਬੀ ਨਾਵੈ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥

पुरबी नावै वरनां की दाति ॥

Purabee naavai varanaan kee daati ||

And take ritual baths at holy festivals and give charitable donations;

ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥

वरत नेम करे दिन राति ॥२॥

Varat nem kare din raati ||2||

He may observe the ritual fasts, and perform religious ceremonies day and night. ||2||


ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੇਖ ॥

काजी मुलां होवहि सेख ॥

Kaajee mulaan hovahi sekh ||

He may be a Qazi, a Mullah or a Shaykh,

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਭਗਵੇ ਭੇਖ ॥

जोगी जंगम भगवे भेख ॥

Jogee janggam bhagave bhekh ||

A Yogi or a wandering hermit wearing saffron-colored robes;

ਕੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਰਮਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ॥

को गिरही करमा की संधि ॥

Ko girahee karamaa kee sanddhi ||

He may be a householder, working at his job;

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭ ਖੜੀਅਸਿ ਬੰਧਿ ॥੩॥

बिनु बूझे सभ खड़ीअसि बंधि ॥३॥

Binu boojhe sabh kha(rr)eeasi banddhi ||3||

But without understanding the essence of devotional worship, all people are eventually bound and gagged, and driven along by the Messenger of Death. ||3||


ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਲਿਖੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥

जेते जीअ लिखी सिरि कार ॥

Jete jeea likhee siri kaar ||

Each person's karma is written on his forehead.

ਕਰਣੀ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਗਿ ਸਾਰ ॥

करणी उपरि होवगि सार ॥

Kara(nn)ee upari hovagi saar ||

According to their deeds, they shall be judged.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥

हुकमु करहि मूरख गावार ॥

Hukamu karahi moorakh gaavaar ||

Only the foolish and the ignorant issue commands.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੪॥੩॥

नानक साचे के सिफति भंडार ॥४॥३॥

Naanak saache ke siphati bhanddaar ||4||3||

O Nanak, the treasure of praise belongs to the True Lord alone. ||4||3||


ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਤੀਜਾ ॥

ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਦਿਗੰਬਰੁ ਹੋਗੁ ॥

बसत्र उतारि दिग्मबरु होगु ॥

Basatr utaari digambbaru hogu ||

A person may take off his clothes and be naked.

ਜਟਾਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥

जटाधारि किआ कमावै जोगु ॥

Jataadhaari kiaa kamaavai jogu ||

What Yoga does he practice by having matted and tangled hair?

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥

मनु निरमलु नही दसवै दुआर ॥

Manu niramalu nahee dasavai duaar ||

If the mind is not pure, what use is it to hold the breath at the Tenth Gate?

ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਵੈ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥

भ्रमि भ्रमि आवै मूड़्हा वारो वार ॥१॥

Bhrmi bhrmi aavai moo(rr)haa vaaro vaar ||1||

The fool wanders and wanders, entering the cycle of reincarnation again and again. ||1||


ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਾ ॥

एकु धिआवहु मूड़्ह मना ॥

Eku dhiaavahu moo(rr)h manaa ||

Meditate on the One Lord, O my foolish mind,

ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਇਕ ਖਿਨਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

पारि उतरि जाहि इक खिनां ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Paari utari jaahi ik khinaan ||1|| rahaau ||

And you shall cross over to the other side in an instant. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ ॥

सिम्रिति सासत्र करहि वखिआण ॥

Simriti saasatr karahi vakhiaa(nn) ||

Some recite and expound on the Simritees and the Shaastras;

ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥

नादी बेदी पड़्हहि पुराण ॥

Naadee bedee pa(rr)hhi puraa(nn) ||

Some sing the Vedas and read the Puraanas;

ਪਾਖੰਡ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮਨਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥

पाखंड द्रिसटि मनि कपटु कमाहि ॥

Paakhandd drisati mani kapatu kamaahi ||

But they practice hypocrisy and deception with their eyes and minds.

ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਰਮਈਆ ਨੇੜਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

तिन कै रमईआ नेड़ि नाहि ॥२॥

Tin kai ramaeeaa ne(rr)i naahi ||2||

The Lord does not even come near them. ||2||


ਜੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

जे को ऐसा संजमी होइ ॥

Je ko aisaa sanjjamee hoi ||

Even if someone practices such self-discipline,

ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਵਿਸੇਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

क्रिआ विसेख पूजा करेइ ॥

Kriaa visekh poojaa karei ||

Compassion and devotional worship

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

अंतरि लोभु मनु बिखिआ माहि ॥

Anttari lobhu manu bikhiaa maahi ||

- if he is filled with greed, and his mind is engrossed in corruption,

ਓਇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥

ओइ निरंजनु कैसे पाहि ॥३॥

Oi niranjjanu kaise paahi ||3||

How can he find the Immaculate Lord? ||3||


ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥

कीता होआ करे किआ होइ ॥

Keetaa hoaa kare kiaa hoi ||

What can the created being do?

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥

जिस नो आपि चलाए सोइ ॥

Jis no aapi chalaae soi ||

The Lord Himself moves him.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥

नदरि करे तां भरमु चुकाए ॥

Nadari kare taan bharamu chukaae ||

If the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then his doubts are dispelled.

ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥

हुकमै बूझै तां साचा पाए ॥४॥

Hukamai boojhai taan saachaa paae ||4||

If the mortal realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he obtains the True Lord. ||4||


ਜਿਸੁ ਜੀਉ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

जिसु जीउ अंतरु मैला होइ ॥

Jisu jeeu anttaru mailaa hoi ||

If someone's soul is polluted within,

ਤੀਰਥ ਭਵੈ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਲੋਇ ॥

तीरथ भवै दिसंतर लोइ ॥

Teerath bhavai disanttar loi ||

What is the use of his traveling to sacred shrines of pilgrimage all over the world?

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗ ॥

नानक मिलीऐ सतिगुर संग ॥

Naanak mileeai satigur sangg ||

O Nanak, when one joins the Society of the True Guru,

ਤਉ ਭਵਜਲ ਕੇ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਬੰਧ ॥੫॥੪॥

तउ भवजल के तूटसि बंध ॥५॥४॥

Tau bhavajal ke tootasi banddh ||5||4||

Then the bonds of the terrifying world-ocean are broken. ||5||4||

ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ॥

सगल भवन तेरी माइआ मोह ॥

Sagal bhavan teree maaiaa moh ||

All the worlds have been fascinated and enchanted by Your Maya, O Lord.

ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਰਬ ਤੋਹ ॥

मै अवरु न दीसै सरब तोह ॥

Mai avaru na deesai sarab toh ||

I do not see any other at all - You are everywhere.

ਤੂ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਾਥਾ ਦੇਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥

तू सुरि नाथा देवा देव ॥

Too suri naathaa devaa dev ||

You are the Master of Yogis, the Divinity of the divine.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥

हरि नामु मिलै गुर चरन सेव ॥१॥

Hari naamu milai gur charan sev ||1||

Serving at the Guru's Feet, the Name of the Lord is received. ||1||


ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਲਾਲ ॥

मेरे सुंदर गहिर ग्मभीर लाल ॥

Mere sunddar gahir gambbheer laal ||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ਤੂ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमुखि राम नाम गुन गाए तू अपर्मपरु सरब पाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramukhi raam naam gun gaae too aparampparu sarab paal ||1|| rahaau ||

As Gurmukh, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name. You are Infinite, the Cherisher of all. ||1|| Pause ||


ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥

बिनु साध न पाईऐ हरि का संगु ॥

Binu saadh na paaeeai hari kaa sanggu ||

Without the Holy Saint, association with the Lord is not obtained.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੈਲ ਮਲੀਨ ਅੰਗੁ ॥

बिनु गुर मैल मलीन अंगु ॥

Binu gur mail maleen anggu ||

Without the Guru, one's very fiber is stained with filth.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

बिनु हरि नाम न सुधु होइ ॥

Binu hari naam na sudhu hoi ||

Without the Lord's Name, one cannot become pure.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥

गुर सबदि सलाहे साचु सोइ ॥२॥

Gur sabadi salaahe saachu soi ||2||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, sing the Praises of the True Lord. ||2||


ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਰਖਨਹਾਰ ॥

जा कउ तू राखहि रखनहार ॥

Jaa kau too raakhahi rakhanahaar ||

O Savior Lord, that person whom You have saved

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਾਰ ॥

सतिगुरू मिलावहि करहि सार ॥

Satiguroo milaavahi karahi saar ||

- You lead him to meet the True Guru, and so take care of him.

ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਪਰਹਰਾਇ ॥

बिखु हउमै ममता परहराइ ॥

Bikhu haumai mamataa paraharaai ||

You take away his poisonous egotism and attachment.

ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੩॥

सभि दूख बिनासे राम राइ ॥३॥

Sabhi dookh binaase raam raai ||3||

You dispel all his sufferings, O Sovereign Lord God. ||3||


ਊਤਮ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਸਰੀਰ ॥

ऊतम गति मिति हरि गुन सरीर ॥

Utam gati miti hari gun sareer ||

His state and condition are sublime; the Lord's Glorious Virtues permeate his body.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਹੀਰ ॥

गुरमति प्रगटे राम नाम हीर ॥

Guramati prgate raam naam heer ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, the diamond of the Lord's Name is revealed.

ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਜਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥

लिव लागी नामि तजि दूजा भाउ ॥

Liv laagee naami taji doojaa bhaau ||

He is lovingly attuned to the Naam; he is rid of the love of duality.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੪॥੫॥

जन नानक हरि गुरु गुर मिलाउ ॥४॥५॥

Jan naanak hari guru gur milaau ||4||5||

O Lord, let servant Nanak meet the Guru. ||4||5||

ਮੇਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਭਾਇ ॥

मेरी सखी सहेली सुनहु भाइ ॥

Meree sakhee sahelee sunahu bhaai ||

O my friends and companions, listen with love in your heart.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਇ ॥

मेरा पिरु रीसालू संगि साइ ॥

Meraa piru reesaaloo sanggi saai ||

My Husband Lord is Incomparably Beautiful; He is always with me.

ਓਹੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਾਇ ॥

ओहु अलखु न लखीऐ कहहु काइ ॥

Ohu alakhu na lakheeai kahahu kaai ||

He is Unseen - He cannot be seen. How can I describe Him?

ਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥

गुरि संगि दिखाइओ राम राइ ॥१॥

Guri sanggi dikhaaio raam raai ||1||

The Guru has shown me that my Sovereign Lord God is with me. ||1||


ਮਿਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਬਨੇ ॥

मिलु सखी सहेली हरि गुन बने ॥

Milu sakhee sahelee hari gun bane ||

Joining together with my friends and companions, I am adorned with the Lord's Glorious Virtues.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਖੇਲਹਿ ਵਰ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਤ ਮਨ ਮਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि प्रभ संगि खेलहि वर कामनि गुरमुखि खोजत मन मने ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari prbh sanggi khelahi var kaamani guramukhi khojat man mane ||1|| rahaau ||

The sublime soul-brides play with their Lord God. The Gurmukhs look within themselves; their minds are filled with faith. ||1|| Pause ||


ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਭੇਉ ॥

मनमुखी दुहागणि नाहि भेउ ॥

Manamukhee duhaaga(nn)i naahi bheu ||

The self-willed manmukhs, suffering in separation, do not understand this mystery.

ਓਹੁ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਸਰਬ ਪ੍ਰੇਉ ॥

ओहु घटि घटि रावै सरब प्रेउ ॥

Ohu ghati ghati raavai sarab preu ||

The Beloved Lord of all celebrates in each and every heart.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਚੀਨੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਦੇਉ ॥

गुरमुखि थिरु चीनै संगि देउ ॥

Guramukhi thiru cheenai sanggi deu ||

The Gurmukh is stable, knowing that God is always with him.

ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਜਪੁ ਜਪੇਉ ॥੨॥

गुरि नामु द्रिड़ाइआ जपु जपेउ ॥२॥

Guri naamu dri(rr)aaiaa japu japeu ||2||

The Guru has implanted the Naam within me; I chant it, and meditate on it. ||2||


ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਉ ਹੋਇ ॥

बिनु गुर भगति न भाउ होइ ॥

Binu gur bhagati na bhaau hoi ||

Without the Guru, devotional love does not well up within.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਨ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੇਇ ॥

बिनु गुर संत न संगु देइ ॥

Binu gur santt na sanggu dei ||

Without the Guru, one is not blessed with the Society of the Saints.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਧੰਧੁ ਰੋਇ ॥

बिनु गुर अंधुले धंधु रोइ ॥

Binu gur anddhule dhanddhu roi ||

Without the Guru, the blind cry out, entangled in worldly affairs.

ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਖੋਇ ॥੩॥

मनु गुरमुखि निरमलु मलु सबदि खोइ ॥३॥

Manu guramukhi niramalu malu sabadi khoi ||3||

That mortal who becomes Gurmukh becomes immaculate; the Word of the Shabad washes away his filth. ||3||


ਗੁਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥

गुरि मनु मारिओ करि संजोगु ॥

Guri manu maario kari sanjjogu ||

Uniting with the Guru, the mortal conquers and subdues his mind.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰਾਵੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੋਗੁ ॥

अहिनिसि रावे भगति जोगु ॥

Ahinisi raave bhagati jogu ||

Day and night, he savors the Yoga of devotional worship.

ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥

गुर संत सभा दुखु मिटै रोगु ॥

Gur santt sabhaa dukhu mitai rogu ||

Associating with the Saint Guru, suffering and sickness are ended.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਸਹਜ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੪॥੬॥

जन नानक हरि वरु सहज जोगु ॥४॥६॥

Jan naanak hari varu sahaj jogu ||4||6||

Servant Nanak merges with his Husband Lord, in the Yoga of intuitive ease. ||4||6||


ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

बसंतु महला १ ॥

Basanttu mahalaa 1 ||

Basant, First Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ॥

आपे कुदरति करे साजि ॥

Aape kudarati kare saaji ||

By His Creative Power, God fashioned the creation.

ਸਚੁ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਬੇੜੇ ਰਾਜੁ ਰਾਜਿ ॥

सचु आपि निबेड़े राजु राजि ॥

Sachu aapi nibe(rr)e raaju raaji ||

The King of kings Himself administers true justice.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਥਿ ॥

गुरमति ऊतम संगि साथि ॥

Guramati utam sanggi saathi ||

The most sublime Word of the Guru's Teachings is always with us.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਆਥਿ ॥੧॥

हरि नामु रसाइणु सहजि आथि ॥१॥

Hari naamu rasaai(nn)u sahaji aathi ||1||

The wealth of the Lord's Name, the source of nectar, is easily acquired. ||1||


ਮਤ ਬਿਸਰਸਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲਿ ॥

मत बिसरसि रे मन राम बोलि ॥

Mat bisarasi re man raam boli ||

So chant the Name of the Lord; do not forget it, O my mind.

ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਤੁਲਾਏ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਤੋਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अपर्मपरु अगम अगोचरु गुरमुखि हरि आपि तुलाए अतुलु तोलि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Aparampparu agam agocharu guramukhi hari aapi tulaae atulu toli ||1|| rahaau ||

The Lord is Infinite, Inaccessible and Incomprehensible; His weight cannot be weighed, but He Himself allows the Gurmukh to weigh Him. ||1|| Pause ||


ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਤੋਰ ॥

गुर चरन सरेवहि गुरसिख तोर ॥

Gur charan sarevahi gurasikh tor ||

Your GurSikhs serve at the Guru's Feet.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਤਰੇ ਤਜਿ ਮੇਰ ਤੋਰ ॥

गुर सेव तरे तजि मेर तोर ॥

Gur sev tare taji mer tor ||

Serving the Guru, they are carried across; they have abandoned any distinction between 'mine' and 'yours'.

ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਨਿ ਕਠੋਰ ॥

नर निंदक लोभी मनि कठोर ॥

Nar ninddak lobhee mani kathor ||

The slanderous and greedy people are hard-hearted.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਸਿ ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ॥੨॥

गुर सेव न भाई सि चोर चोर ॥२॥

Gur sev na bhaaee si chor chor ||2||

Those who do not love to serve the Guru are the most thieving of thieves. ||2||


ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਉ ॥

गुरु तुठा बखसे भगति भाउ ॥

Guru tuthaa bakhase bhagati bhaau ||

When the Guru is pleased, He blesses the mortals with loving devotional worship of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਠਾਉ ॥

गुरि तुठै पाईऐ हरि महलि ठाउ ॥

Guri tuthai paaeeai hari mahali thaau ||

When the Guru is pleased, the mortal obtains a place in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.

ਪਰਹਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਾਗੁ ॥

परहरि निंदा हरि भगति जागु ॥

Parahari ninddaa hari bhagati jaagu ||

So renounce slander, and awaken in devotional worship of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੩॥

हरि भगति सुहावी करमि भागु ॥३॥

Hari bhagati suhaavee karami bhaagu ||3||

Devotion to the Lord is wonderful; it comes through good karma and destiny. ||3||


ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਿ ॥

गुरु मेलि मिलावै करे दाति ॥

Guru meli milaavai kare daati ||

The Guru unites in union with the Lord, and grants the gift of the Name.

ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥

गुरसिख पिआरे दिनसु राति ॥

Gurasikh piaare dinasu raati ||

The Guru loves His Sikhs, day and night.

ਫਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਦੇਇ ॥

फलु नामु परापति गुरु तुसि देइ ॥

Phalu naamu paraapati guru tusi dei ||

They obtain the fruit of the Naam, when the Guru's favor is bestowed.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਇ ॥੪॥੭॥

कहु नानक पावहि विरले केइ ॥४॥७॥

Kahu naanak paavahi virale kei ||4||7||

Says Nanak, those who receive it are very rare indeed. ||4||7||


ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਇਕ ਤੁਕਾ ॥

बसंतु महला ३ इक तुका ॥

Basanttu mahalaa 3 ik tukaa ||

Basant, Third Mehl, Ik-Tukas:

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ॥

साहिब भावै सेवकु सेवा करै ॥

Saahib bhaavai sevaku sevaa karai ||

When it pleases our Lord and Master, His servant serves Him.

ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰੈ ॥੧॥

जीवतु मरै सभि कुल उधरै ॥१॥

Jeevatu marai sabhi kul udharai ||1||

He remains dead while yet alive, and redeems all his ancestors. ||1||


ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਹਸੈ ॥

तेरी भगति न छोडउ किआ को हसै ॥

Teree bhagati na chhodau kiaa ko hasai ||

I shall not renounce Your devotional worship, O Lord; what does it matter if people laugh at me?

ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

साचु नामु मेरै हिरदै वसै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saachu naamu merai hiradai vasai ||1|| rahaau ||

The True Name abides within my heart. ||1|| Pause ||


ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗਲਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥

जैसे माइआ मोहि प्राणी गलतु रहै ॥

Jaise maaiaa mohi praa(nn)ee galatu rahai ||

Just as the mortal remains engrossed in attachment to Maya,

ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਵਤ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥

तैसे संत जन राम नाम रवत रहै ॥२॥

Taise santt jan raam naam ravat rahai ||2||

So does the Lord's humble Saint remain absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||2||


ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆ ॥

मै मूरख मुगध ऊपरि करहु दइआ ॥

Mai moorakh mugadh upari karahu daiaa ||

I am foolish and ignorant, O Lord; please be merciful to me.

ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਰਹਉ ਪਇਆ ॥੩॥

तउ सरणागति रहउ पइआ ॥३॥

Tau sara(nn)aagati rahau paiaa ||3||

May I remain in Your Sanctuary. ||3||


ਕਹਤੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਾਮਾ ॥

कहतु नानकु संसार के निहफल कामा ॥

Kahatu naanaku sanssaar ke nihaphal kaamaa ||

Says Nanak, worldly affairs are fruitless.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੮॥

गुर प्रसादि को पावै अम्रित नामा ॥४॥८॥

Gur prsaadi ko paavai ammmrit naamaa ||4||8||

Only by Guru's Grace does one receive the Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||8||

बसंतु महला ३ घरु १ दुतुके

Basanttu mahalaa 3 gharu 1 dutuke

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਮਾਹਾ ਰੁਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਦ ਬਸੰਤੁ ॥

माहा रुती महि सद बसंतु ॥

Maahaa rutee mahi sad basanttu ||

Throughout the months and the seasons, the Lord is always in bloom.

ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤੁ ॥

जितु हरिआ सभु जीअ जंतु ॥

Jitu hariaa sabhu jeea janttu ||

He rejuvenates all beings and creatures.

ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਕਿਰਮ ਜੰਤੁ ॥

किआ हउ आखा किरम जंतु ॥

Kiaa hau aakhaa kiram janttu ||

What can I say? I am just a worm.

ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੁ ॥੧॥

तेरा किनै न पाइआ आदि अंतु ॥१॥

Teraa kinai na paaiaa aadi anttu ||1||

No one has found Your beginning or Your end, O Lord. ||1||


ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇਵ ॥

तै साहिब की करहि सेव ॥

Tai saahib kee karahi sev ||

Those who serve You, Lord,

ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

परम सुख पावहि आतम देव ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Param sukh paavahi aatam dev ||1|| rahaau ||

Obtain the greatest peace; their souls are so divine. ||1|| Pause ||


ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ॥

करमु होवै तां सेवा करै ॥

Karamu hovai taan sevaa karai ||

If the Lord is merciful, then the mortal is allowed to serve Him.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ॥

गुर परसादी जीवत मरै ॥

Gur parasaadee jeevat marai ||

By Guru's Grace, he remains dead while yet alive.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥

अनदिनु साचु नामु उचरै ॥

Anadinu saachu naamu ucharai ||

Night and day, he chants the True Name;

ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੨॥

इन बिधि प्राणी दुतरु तरै ॥२॥

In bidhi praa(nn)ee dutaru tarai ||2||

In this way, he crosses over the treacherous world-ocean. ||2||


ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥

बिखु अम्रितु करतारि उपाए ॥

Bikhu ammmritu karataari upaae ||

The Creator created both poison and nectar.

ਸੰਸਾਰ ਬਿਰਖ ਕਉ ਦੁਇ ਫਲ ਲਾਏ ॥

संसार बिरख कउ दुइ फल लाए ॥

Sanssaar birakh kau dui phal laae ||

He attached these two fruits to the world-plant.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥

आपे करता करे कराए ॥

Aape karataa kare karaae ||

The Creator Himself is the Doer, the Cause of all.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਖਵਾਏ ॥੩॥

जो तिसु भावै तिसै खवाए ॥३॥

Jo tisu bhaavai tisai khavaae ||3||

He feeds all as He pleases. ||3||


ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

नानक जिस नो नदरि करेइ ॥

Naanak jis no nadari karei ||

O Nanak, when He casts His Glance of Grace,

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥

अम्रित नामु आपे देइ ॥

Ammmrit naamu aape dei ||

He Himself bestows His Ambrosial Naam.

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

बिखिआ की बासना मनहि करेइ ॥

Bikhiaa kee baasanaa manahi karei ||

Thus, the desire for sin and corruption is ended.

ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੪॥੧॥

अपणा भाणा आपि करेइ ॥४॥१॥

Apa(nn)aa bhaa(nn)aa aapi karei ||4||1||

The Lord Himself carries out His Own Will. ||4||1||

Basant, Third Mehl:

ਰਾਤੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥

राते साचि हरि नामि निहाला ॥

Raate saachi hari naami nihaalaa ||

Those who are attuned to the True Lord's Name are happy and exalted.

ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥

दइआ करहु प्रभ दीन दइआला ॥

Daiaa karahu prbh deen daiaalaa ||

Take pity on me, O God, Merciful to the meek.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

तिसु बिनु अवरु नही मै कोइ ॥

Tisu binu avaru nahee mai koi ||

Without Him, I have no other at all.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥

जिउ भावै तिउ राखै सोइ ॥१॥

Jiu bhaavai tiu raakhai soi ||1||

As it pleases His Will, He keeps me. ||1||


ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥

गुर गोपाल मेरै मनि भाए ॥

Gur gopaal merai mani bhaae ||

The Guru, the Lord, is pleasing to my mind.

ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

रहि न सकउ दरसन देखे बिनु सहजि मिलउ गुरु मेलि मिलाए ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Rahi na sakau darasan dekhe binu sahaji milau guru meli milaae ||1|| rahaau ||

I cannot even survive, without the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. But I shall easily unite with the Guru, if He unites me in His Union. ||1|| Pause ||


ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਿ ਲੁਭਾਨਾ ॥

इहु मनु लोभी लोभि लुभाना ॥

Ihu manu lobhee lobhi lubhaanaa ||

The greedy mind is enticed by greed.

ਰਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥

राम बिसारि बहुरि पछुताना ॥

Raam bisaari bahuri pachhutaanaa ||

Forgetting the Lord, it regrets and repents in the end.

ਬਿਛੁਰਤ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਰਾਂਗੇ ॥

बिछुरत मिलाइ गुर सेव रांगे ॥

Bichhurat milaai gur sev raange ||

The separated ones are reunited, when they are inspired to serve the Guru.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥੨॥

हरि नामु दीओ मसतकि वडभागे ॥२॥

Hari naamu deeo masataki vadabhaage ||2||

They are blessed with the Lord's Name - such is the destiny written on their foreheads. ||2||


ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਦੇਹ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥

पउण पाणी की इह देह सरीरा ॥

Pau(nn) paa(nn)ee kee ih deh sareeraa ||

This body is built of air and water.

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਠਿਨ ਤਨਿ ਪੀਰਾ ॥

हउमै रोगु कठिन तनि पीरा ॥

Haumai rogu kathin tani peeraa ||

The body is afflicted with the terribly painful illness of egotism.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਰੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥

गुरमुखि राम नाम दारू गुण गाइआ ॥

Guramukhi raam naam daaroo gu(nn) gaaiaa ||

The Gurmukh has the Medicine: singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

करि किरपा गुरि रोगु गवाइआ ॥३॥

Kari kirapaa guri rogu gavaaiaa ||3||

Granting His Grace, the Guru has cured the illness. ||3||


ਚਾਰਿ ਨਦੀਆ ਅਗਨੀ ਤਨਿ ਚਾਰੇ ॥

चारि नदीआ अगनी तनि चारे ॥

Chaari nadeeaa aganee tani chaare ||

The four evils are the four rivers of fire flowing through the body.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਜਲੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੇ ॥

त्रिसना जलत जले अहंकारे ॥

Trisanaa jalat jale ahankkaare ||

It is burning in desire, and burning in egotism.

ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਾਰੇ ॥

गुरि राखे वडभागी तारे ॥

Guri raakhe vadabhaagee taare ||

Those whom the Guru protects and saves are very fortunate.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥

जन नानक उरि हरि अम्रितु धारे ॥४॥२॥

Jan naanak uri hari ammmritu dhaare ||4||2||

Servant Nanak enshrines the Ambrosial Name of the Lord in his heart. ||4||2||

Basant, Third Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਲੋਗੁ ॥

हरि सेवे सो हरि का लोगु ॥

Hari seve so hari kaa logu ||

One who serves the Lord is the Lord's person.

ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਗੁ ॥

साचु सहजु कदे न होवै सोगु ॥

Saachu sahaju kade na hovai sogu ||

He dwells in intuitive peace, and never suffers in sorrow.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

मनमुख मुए नाही हरि मन माहि ॥

Manamukh mue naahee hari man maahi ||

The self-willed manmukhs are dead; the Lord is not within their minds.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਭੀ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

मरि मरि जमहि भी मरि जाहि ॥१॥

Mari mari jammahi bhee mari jaahi ||1||

They die and die again and again, and are reincarnated, only to die once more. ||1||


ਸੇ ਜਨ ਜੀਵੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

से जन जीवे जिन हरि मन माहि ॥

Se jan jeeve jin hari man maahi ||

They alone are alive, whose minds are filled with the Lord.

ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਹਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

साचु सम्हालहि साचि समाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Saachu samhaalahi saachi samaahi ||1|| rahaau ||

They contemplate the True Lord, and are absorbed in the True Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਹਰਿ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

हरि न सेवहि ते हरि ते दूरि ॥

Hari na sevahi te hari te doori ||

Those who do not serve the Lord are far away from the Lord.

ਦਿਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਵਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

दिसंतरु भवहि सिरि पावहि धूरि ॥

Disanttaru bhavahi siri paavahi dhoori ||

They wander in foreign lands, with dust thrown on their heads.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਨ ਲੀਏ ਲਾਇ ॥

हरि आपे जन लीए लाइ ॥

Hari aape jan leee laai ||

The Lord Himself enjoins His humble servants to serve Him.

ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

तिन सदा सुखु है तिलु न तमाइ ॥२॥

Tin sadaa sukhu hai tilu na tamaai ||2||

They live in peace forever, and have no greed at all. ||2||


ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

नदरि करे चूकै अभिमानु ॥

Nadari kare chookai abhimaanu ||

When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, egotism is eradicated.

ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥

साची दरगह पावै मानु ॥

Saachee daragah paavai maanu ||

Then, the mortal is honored in the Court of the True Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥

हरि जीउ वेखै सद हजूरि ॥

Hari jeeu vekhai sad hajoori ||

He sees the Dear Lord always close at hand, ever-present.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥

गुर कै सबदि रहिआ भरपूरि ॥३॥

Gur kai sabadi rahiaa bharapoori ||3||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he sees the Lord pervading and permeating all. ||3||


ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੀ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥

जीअ जंत की करे प्रतिपाल ॥

Jeea jantt kee kare prtipaal ||

The Lord cherishes all beings and creatures.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਦ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲ ॥

गुर परसादी सद सम्हाल ॥

Gur parasaadee sad samhaal ||

By Guru's Grace, contemplate Him forever.

ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

दरि साचै पति सिउ घरि जाइ ॥

Dari saachai pati siu ghari jaai ||

You shall go to your true home in the Lord's Court with honor.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥

नानक नामि वडाई पाइ ॥४॥३॥

Naanak naami vadaaee paai ||4||3||

O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall be blessed with glorious greatness. ||4||3||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ॥

अंतरि पूजा मन ते होइ ॥

Anttari poojaa man te hoi ||

One who worships the Lord within his mind,

ਏਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਅਉਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

एको वेखै अउरु न कोइ ॥

Eko vekhai auru na koi ||

Sees the One and Only Lord, and no other.

ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਕੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

दूजै लोकी बहुतु दुखु पाइआ ॥

Doojai lokee bahutu dukhu paaiaa ||

People in duality suffer terrible pain.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੈਨੋ ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

सतिगुरि मैनो एकु दिखाइआ ॥१॥

Satiguri maino eku dikhaaiaa ||1||

The True Guru has shown me the One Lord. ||1||


ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਸਦ ਬਸੰਤੁ ॥

मेरा प्रभु मउलिआ सद बसंतु ॥

Meraa prbhu mauliaa sad basanttu ||

My God is in bloom, forever in spring.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

इहु मनु मउलिआ गाइ गुण गोबिंद ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Ihu manu mauliaa gaai gu(nn) gobindd ||1|| rahaau ||

This mind blossoms forth, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. ||1|| Pause ||


ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

गुर पूछहु तुम्ह करहु बीचारु ॥

Gur poochhahu tumh karahu beechaaru ||

So consult the Guru, and reflect upon His wisdom;

ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

तां प्रभ साचे लगै पिआरु ॥

Taan prbh saache lagai piaaru ||

Then, you shall be in love with the True Lord God.

ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਦਾਸਤ ਭਾਇ ॥

आपु छोडि होहि दासत भाइ ॥

Aapu chhodi hohi daasat bhaai ||

Abandon your self-conceit, and be His loving servant.

ਤਉ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥

तउ जगजीवनु वसै मनि आइ ॥२॥

Tau jagajeevanu vasai mani aai ||2||

Then, the Life of the World shall come to dwell in your mind. ||2||


ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਦ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥

भगति करे सद वेखै हजूरि ॥

Bhagati kare sad vekhai hajoori ||

Worship Him with devotion, and see Him always ever-present, close at hand.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

मेरा प्रभु सद रहिआ भरपूरि ॥

Meraa prbhu sad rahiaa bharapoori ||

My God is forever permeating and pervading all.

ਇਸੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਾ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੇਉ ॥

इसु भगती का कोई जाणै भेउ ॥

Isu bhagatee kaa koee jaa(nn)ai bheu ||

Only a rare few know the mystery of this devotional worship.

ਸਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਦੇਉ ॥੩॥

सभु मेरा प्रभु आतम देउ ॥३॥

Sabhu meraa prbhu aatam deu ||3||

My God is the Enlightener of all souls. ||3||


ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

आपे सतिगुरु मेलि मिलाए ॥

Aape satiguru meli milaae ||

The True Guru Himself unites us in His Union.

ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਸਿਉ ਆਪਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

जगजीवन सिउ आपि चितु लाए ॥

Jagajeevan siu aapi chitu laae ||

He Himself links our consciousness to the Lord, the Life of the World.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥

मनु तनु हरिआ सहजि सुभाए ॥

Manu tanu hariaa sahaji subhaae ||

Thus, our minds and bodies are rejuvenated with intuitive ease.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥

नानक नामि रहे लिव लाए ॥४॥४॥

Naanak naami rahe liv laae ||4||4||

O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, we remain attuned to the String of His Love. ||4||4||

The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He dwells within their minds,

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

गुर किरपा ते सहज सुभाइ ॥

Gur kirapaa te sahaj subhaai ||

By Guru's Grace, with intuitive ease.

ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਖੋਇ ॥

भगति करे विचहु आपु खोइ ॥

Bhagati kare vichahu aapu khoi ||

Through devotional worship, self-conceit is eradicated from within,

ਤਦ ਹੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

तद ही साचि मिलावा होइ ॥१॥

Tad hee saachi milaavaa hoi ||1||

And then, one meets the True Lord. ||1||


ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥

भगत सोहहि सदा हरि प्रभ दुआरि ॥

Bhagat sohahi sadaa hari prbh duaari ||

His devotees are forever beauteous at the Door of the Lord God.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर कै हेति साचै प्रेम पिआरि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur kai heti saachai prem piaari ||1|| rahaau ||

Loving the Guru, they have love and affection for the True Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

भगति करे सो जनु निरमलु होइ ॥

Bhagati kare so janu niramalu hoi ||

That humble being who worships the Lord with devotion becomes immaculate and pure.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਇ ॥

गुर सबदी विचहु हउमै खोइ ॥

Gur sabadee vichahu haumai khoi ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, egotism is eradicated from within.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

हरि जीउ आपि वसै मनि आइ ॥

Hari jeeu aapi vasai mani aai ||

The Dear Lord Himself comes to dwell within the mind,

ਸਦਾ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

सदा सांति सुखि सहजि समाइ ॥२॥

Sadaa saanti sukhi sahaji samaai ||2||

And the mortal remains immersed in peace, tranquility and intuitive ease. ||2||


ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਦ ਬਸੰਤ ॥

साचि रते तिन सद बसंत ॥

Saachi rate tin sad basantt ||

Those who are imbued with Truth, are forever in the bloom of spring.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਰਵਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੁਵਿੰਦ ॥

मनु तनु हरिआ रवि गुण गुविंद ॥

Manu tanu hariaa ravi gu(nn) guvindd ||

Their minds and bodies are rejuvenated, uttering the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੂਕਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

बिनु नावै सूका संसारु ॥

Binu naavai sookaa sanssaaru ||

Without the Lord's Name, the world is dry and parched.

ਅਗਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੩॥

अगनि त्रिसना जलै वारो वार ॥३॥

Agani trisanaa jalai vaaro vaar ||3||

It burns in the fire of desire, over and over again. ||3||


ਸੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

सोई करे जि हरि जीउ भावै ॥

Soee kare ji hari jeeu bhaavai ||

One who does only that which is pleasing to the Dear Lord

ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥

सदा सुखु सरीरि भाणै चितु लावै ॥

Sadaa sukhu sareeri bhaa(nn)ai chitu laavai ||

- his body is forever at peace, and his consciousness is attached to the Lord's Will.

ਅਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

अपणा प्रभु सेवे सहजि सुभाइ ॥

Apa(nn)aa prbhu seve sahaji subhaai ||

He serves His God with intuitive ease.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੪॥੫॥

नानक नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥४॥५॥

Naanak naamu vasai mani aai ||4||5||

O Nanak, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to abide in his mind. ||4||5||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥

Maaiaa mohu sabadi jalaae ||

Attachment to Maya is burnt away by the Word of the Shabad.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥

मनु तनु हरिआ सतिगुर भाए ॥

Manu tanu hariaa satigur bhaae ||

The mind and body are rejuvenated by the Love of the True Guru.

ਸਫਲਿਓੁ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥

सफलिओ बिरखु हरि कै दुआरि ॥

Saphaliou birakhu hari kai duaari ||

The tree bears fruit at the Lord's Door,

ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧॥

Saachee baa(nn)ee naam piaari ||1||

In love with the True Bani of the Guru's Word, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||


ਏ ਮਨ ਹਰਿਆ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

ए मन हरिआ सहज सुभाइ ॥

E man hariaa sahaj subhaai ||

This mind is rejuvenated, with intuitive ease;

ਸਚ ਫਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सच फलु लागै सतिगुर भाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sach phalu laagai satigur bhaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Loving the True Guru, it bears the fruit of truth. ||1|| Pause ||


ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

आपे नेड़ै आपे दूरि ॥

Aape ne(rr)ai aape doori ||

He Himself is near, and He Himself is far away.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥

गुर कै सबदि वेखै सद हजूरि ॥

Gur kai sabadi vekhai sad hajoori ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is seen to be ever-present, close at hand.

ਛਾਵ ਘਣੀ ਫੂਲੀ ਬਨਰਾਇ ॥

छाव घणी फूली बनराइ ॥

Chhaav gha(nn)ee phoolee banaraai ||

The plants have blossomed forth, giving a dense shade.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि बिगसै सहजि सुभाइ ॥२॥

Guramukhi bigasai sahaji subhaai ||2||

The Gurmukh blossoms forth, with intuitive ease. ||2||


ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥

अनदिनु कीरतनु करहि दिन राति ॥

Anadinu keeratanu karahi din raati ||

Night and day, he sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, day and night.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜੂਠਿ ਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥

सतिगुरि गवाई विचहु जूठि भरांति ॥

Satiguri gavaaee vichahu joothi bharaanti ||

The True Guru drives out sin and doubt from within.

ਪਰਪੰਚ ਵੇਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥

परपंच वेखि रहिआ विसमादु ॥

Parapancch vekhi rahiaa visamaadu ||

Gazing upon the wonder of God's Creation, I am wonder-struck and amazed.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੁ ॥੩॥

गुरमुखि पाईऐ नाम प्रसादु ॥३॥

Guramukhi paaeeai naam prsaadu ||3||

The Gurmukh obtains the Naam, the Name of the Lord, by His Grace. ||3||


ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ॥

आपे करता सभि रस भोग ॥

Aape karataa sabhi ras bhog ||

The Creator Himself enjoys all delights.

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਹੋਗ ॥

जो किछु करे सोई परु होग ॥

Jo kichhu kare soee paru hog ||

Whatever He does, surely comes to pass.

ਵਡਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥

वडा दाता तिलु न तमाइ ॥

Vadaa daataa tilu na tamaai ||

He is the Great Giver; He has no greed at all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੬॥

नानक मिलीऐ सबदु कमाइ ॥४॥६॥

Naanak mileeai sabadu kamaai ||4||6||

O Nanak, living the Word of the Shabad, the mortal meets with God. ||4||6||

Basant, Third Mehl:

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥

पूरै भागि सचु कार कमावै ॥

Poorai bhaagi sachu kaar kamaavai ||

By perfect destiny, one acts in truth.

ਏਕੋ ਚੇਤੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

एको चेतै फिरि जोनि न आवै ॥

Eko chetai phiri joni na aavai ||

Remembering the One Lord, one does not have to enter the cycle of reincarnation.

ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

सफल जनमु इसु जग महि आइआ ॥

Saphal janamu isu jag mahi aaiaa ||

Fruitful is the coming into the world, and the life of one

ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

साचि नामि सहजि समाइआ ॥१॥

Saachi naami sahaji samaaiaa ||1||

Who remains intuitively absorbed in the True Name. ||1||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

गुरमुखि कार करहु लिव लाइ ॥

Guramukhi kaar karahu liv laai ||

The Gurmukh acts, lovingly attuned to the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हरि नामु सेवहु विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Hari naamu sevahu vichahu aapu gavaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Be dedicated to the Lord's Name, and eradicate self-conceit from within. ||1|| Pause ||


ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

तिसु जन की है साची बाणी ॥

Tisu jan kee hai saachee baa(nn)ee ||

True is the speech of that humble being;

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥

गुर कै सबदि जग माहि समाणी ॥

Gur kai sabadi jag maahi samaa(nn)ee ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is spread throughout the world.

ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਪਸਰੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥

चहु जुग पसरी साची सोइ ॥

Chahu jug pasaree saachee soi ||

Throughout the four ages, his fame and glory spread.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

नामि रता जनु परगटु होइ ॥२॥

Naami rataa janu paragatu hoi ||2||

Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Lord's humble servant is recognized and renowned. ||2||


ਇਕਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

इकि साचै सबदि रहे लिव लाइ ॥

Iki saachai sabadi rahe liv laai ||

Some remain lovingly attuned to the True Word of the Shabad.

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

से जन साचे साचै भाइ ॥

Se jan saache saachai bhaai ||

True are those humble beings who love the True Lord.

ਸਾਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥

साचु धिआइनि देखि हजूरि ॥

Saachu dhiaaini dekhi hajoori ||

They meditate on the True Lord, and behold Him near at hand, ever-present.

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਪੰਕਜ ਧੂਰਿ ॥੩॥

संत जना की पग पंकज धूरि ॥३॥

Santt janaa kee pag pankkaj dhoori ||3||

They are the dust of the lotus feet of the humble Saints. ||3||


ਏਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

एको करता अवरु न कोइ ॥

Eko karataa avaru na koi ||

There is only One Creator Lord; there is no other at all.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

गुर सबदी मेलावा होइ ॥

Gur sabadee melaavaa hoi ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, comes Union with the Lord.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

जिनि सचु सेविआ तिनि रसु पाइआ ॥

Jini sachu seviaa tini rasu paaiaa ||

Whoever serves the True Lord finds joy.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੭॥

नानक सहजे नामि समाइआ ॥४॥७॥

Naanak sahaje naami samaaiaa ||4||7||

O Nanak, he is intuitively absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||7||

ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥

भगति करहि जन देखि हजूरि ॥

Bhagati karahi jan dekhi hajoori ||

The Lord's humble servant worships Him and beholds Him ever-present near at hand.

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਪੰਕਜ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

संत जना की पग पंकज धूरि ॥

Santt janaa kee pag pankkaj dhoori ||

He is the dust of the lotus feet of the humble Saints.

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਦ ਰਹਹਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

हरि सेती सद रहहि लिव लाइ ॥

Hari setee sad rahahi liv laai ||

Those who remain lovingly attuned to the Lord forever

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥੧॥

पूरै सतिगुरि दीआ बुझाइ ॥१॥

Poorai satiguri deeaa bujhaai ||1||

Are blessed with understanding by the Perfect True Guru. ||1||


ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਇ ॥

दासा का दासु विरला कोई होइ ॥

Daasaa kaa daasu viralaa koee hoi ||

How rare are those who become the slave of the Lord's slaves.

ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ऊतम पदवी पावै सोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Utam padavee paavai soi ||1|| rahaau ||

They attain the supreme status. ||1|| Pause ||


ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

एको सेवहु अवरु न कोइ ॥

Eko sevahu avaru na koi ||

So serve the One Lord, and no other.

ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

जितु सेविऐ सदा सुखु होइ ॥

Jitu seviai sadaa sukhu hoi ||

Serving Him, eternal peace is obtained.

ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

ना ओहु मरै न आवै जाइ ॥

Naa ohu marai na aavai jaai ||

He does not die; He does not come and go in reincarnation.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਕਿਉ ਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

तिसु बिनु अवरु सेवी किउ माइ ॥२॥

Tisu binu avaru sevee kiu maai ||2||

Why should I serve any other than Him, O my mother? ||2||


ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥

से जन साचे जिनी साचु पछाणिआ ॥

Se jan saache jinee saachu pachhaa(nn)iaa ||

True are those humble beings who realize the True Lord.

ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣਿਆ ॥

आपु मारि सहजे नामि समाणिआ ॥

Aapu maari sahaje naami samaa(nn)iaa ||

Conquering their self-conceit, they merge intuitively into the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

गुरमुखि नामु परापति होइ ॥

Guramukhi naamu paraapati hoi ||

The Gurmukhs gather in the Naam.

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

मनु निरमलु निरमल सचु सोइ ॥३॥

Manu niramalu niramal sachu soi ||3||

Their minds are immaculate, and their reputations are immaculate. ||3||


ਜਿਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਣੁ ॥

जिनि गिआनु कीआ तिसु हरि तू जाणु ॥

Jini giaanu keeaa tisu hari too jaa(nn)u ||

Know the Lord, who gave you spiritual wisdom,

ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਞਾਣੁ ॥

साच सबदि प्रभु एकु सिञाणु ॥

Saach sabadi prbhu eku si(ny)aa(nn)u ||

And realize the One God, through the True Word of the Shabad.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

हरि रसु चाखै तां सुधि होइ ॥

Hari rasu chaakhai taan sudhi hoi ||

When the mortal tastes the sublime essence of the Lord, he becomes pure and holy.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੮॥

नानक नामि रते सचु सोइ ॥४॥८॥

Naanak naami rate sachu soi ||4||8||

O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam - their reputations are true. ||4||8||

Those who are imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord - their generations are redeemed and saved.

ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

साची बाणी नाम पिआरु ॥

Saachee baa(nn)ee naam piaaru ||

True is their speech; they love the Naam.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਆਏ ॥

मनमुख भूले काहे आए ॥

Manamukh bhoole kaahe aae ||

Why have the wandering self-willed manmukhs even come into the world?

ਨਾਮਹੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੧॥

नामहु भूले जनमु गवाए ॥१॥

Naamahu bhoole janamu gavaae ||1||

Forgetting the Naam, the mortals waste their lives away. ||1||


ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥

जीवत मरै मरि मरणु सवारै ॥

Jeevat marai mari mara(nn)u savaarai ||

One who dies while yet alive, truly dies, and embellishes his death.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर कै सबदि साचु उर धारै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur kai sabadi saachu ur dhaarai ||1|| rahaau ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart. ||1|| Pause ||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥

गुरमुखि सचु भोजनु पवितु सरीरा ॥

Guramukhi sachu bhojanu pavitu sareeraa ||

Truth is the food of the Gurmukh; his body is sanctified and pure.

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥

मनु निरमलु सद गुणी गहीरा ॥

Manu niramalu sad gu(nn)ee gaheeraa ||

His mind is immaculate; he is forever the ocean of virtue.

ਜੰਮੈ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

जमै मरै न आवै जाइ ॥

Jammai marai na aavai jaai ||

He is not forced to come and go in the cycle of birth and death.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

गुर परसादी साचि समाइ ॥२॥

Gur parasaadee saachi samaai ||2||

By Guru's Grace, he merges in the True Lord. ||2||


ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥

साचा सेवहु साचु पछाणै ॥

Saachaa sevahu saachu pachhaa(nn)ai ||

Serving the True Lord, one realizes Truth.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥

गुर कै सबदि हरि दरि नीसाणै ॥

Gur kai sabadi hari dari neesaa(nn)ai ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he goes to the Lord's Court with his banners flying proudly.

ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

दरि साचै सचु सोभा होइ ॥

Dari saachai sachu sobhaa hoi ||

In the Court of the True Lord, he obtains true glory.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

निज घरि वासा पावै सोइ ॥३॥

Nij ghari vaasaa paavai soi ||3||

He comes to dwell in the home of his own inner being. ||3||


ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

आपि अभुलु सचा सचु सोइ ॥

Aapi abhulu sachaa sachu soi ||

He cannot be fooled; He is the Truest of the True.

ਹੋਰਿ ਸਭਿ ਭੂਲਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥

होरि सभि भूलहि दूजै पति खोइ ॥

Hori sabhi bhoolahi doojai pati khoi ||

All others are deluded; in duality, they lose their honor.

ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

साचा सेवहु साची बाणी ॥

Saachaa sevahu saachee baa(nn)ee ||

So serve the True Lord, through the True Bani of His Word.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੯॥

नानक नामे साचि समाणी ॥४॥९॥

Naanak naame saachi samaa(nn)ee ||4||9||

O Nanak, through the Naam, merge in the True Lord. ||4||9||

ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥

Without the grace of good karma, all are deluded by doubt.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥

माइआ मोहि बहुतु दुखु पाई ॥

Maaiaa mohi bahutu dukhu paaee ||

In attachment to Maya, they suffer in terrible pain.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

मनमुख अंधे ठउर न पाई ॥

Manamukh anddhe thaur na paaee ||

The blind, self-willed manmukhs find no place of rest.

ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥

बिसटा का कीड़ा बिसटा माहि समाई ॥१॥

Bisataa kaa kee(rr)aa bisataa maahi samaaee ||1||

They are like maggots in manure, rotting away in manure. ||1||


ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

हुकमु मंने सो जनु परवाणु ॥

Hukamu manne so janu paravaa(nn)u ||

That humble being who obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command is accepted.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर कै सबदि नामि नीसाणु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur kai sabadi naami neesaa(nn)u ||1|| rahaau ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is blessed with the insignia and the banner of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

साचि रते जिन्हा धुरि लिखि पाइआ ॥

Saachi rate jinhaa dhuri likhi paaiaa ||

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny are imbued with the Naam.
