ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥

Ik-oamkkaari satigur prsaadi ||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਮੰਞੁ ਕੁਚਜੀ ਅੰਮਾਵਣਿ ਡੋਸੜੇ ਹਉ ਕਿਉ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਣਿ ਜਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

मंञु कुचजी अमावणि डोसड़े हउ किउ सहु रावणि जाउ जीउ ॥

Man(ny)u kuchajee ammmaava(nn)i dosa(rr)e hau kiu sahu raava(nn)i jaau jeeu ||

I am ungraceful and ill-mannered, full of endless faults. How can I go to enjoy my Husband Lord?

ਇਕ ਦੂ ਇਕਿ ਚੜੰਦੀਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

इक दू इकि चड़ंदीआ कउणु जाणै मेरा नाउ जीउ ॥

Ik doo iki cha(rr)anddeeaa kau(nn)u jaa(nn)ai meraa naau jeeu ||

Each of His soul-brides is better than the rest - who even knows my name?

ਜਿਨੑੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਸੇ ਅੰਬੀ ਛਾਵੜੀਏਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

जिन्ही सखी सहु राविआ से अ्मबी छावड़ीएहि जीउ ॥

Jinhee sakhee sahu raaviaa se ambbee chhaava(rr)eeehi jeeu ||

Those brides who enjoy their Husband Lord are very blessed, resting in the shade of the mango tree.

ਸੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੰਞੁ ਨ ਆਵਨੀ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਜੀ ਦੋਸ ਧਰੇਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

से गुण मंञु न आवनी हउ कै जी दोस धरेउ जीउ ॥

Se gu(nn) man(ny)u na aavanee hau kai jee dos dhareu jeeu ||

I do not have their virtue - who can I blame for this?

ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਥਰਾ ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਿਆ ਘਿਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

किआ गुण तेरे विथरा हउ किआ किआ घिना तेरा नाउ जीउ ॥

Kiaa gu(nn) tere vitharaa hau kiaa kiaa ghinaa teraa naau jeeu ||

Which of Your Virtues, O Lord, should I speak of? Which of Your Names should I chant?

ਇਕਤੁ ਟੋਲਿ ਨ ਅੰਬੜਾ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਜਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

इकतु टोलि न अ्मबड़ा हउ सद कुरबाणै तेरै जाउ जीउ ॥

Ikatu toli na ambba(rr)aa hau sad kurabaa(nn)ai terai jaau jeeu ||

I cannot even reach one of Your Virtues. I am forever a sacrifice to You.

ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਮੋਤੀ ਤੈ ਮਾਣਿਕੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

सुइना रुपा रंगुला मोती तै माणिकु जीउ ॥

Suinaa rupaa ranggulaa motee tai maa(nn)iku jeeu ||

Gold, silver, pearls and rubies are pleasing.

ਸੇ ਵਸਤੂ ਸਹਿ ਦਿਤੀਆ ਮੈ ਤਿਨੑ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

से वसतू सहि दितीआ मै तिन्ह सिउ लाइआ चितु जीउ ॥

Se vasatoo sahi diteeaa mai tinh siu laaiaa chitu jeeu ||

My Husband Lord has blessed me with these things, and I have focused my thoughts on them.

ਮੰਦਰ ਮਿਟੀ ਸੰਦੜੇ ਪਥਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਰਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

मंदर मिटी संदड़े पथर कीते रासि जीउ ॥

Manddar mitee sandda(rr)e pathar keete raasi jeeu ||

Palaces of brick and mud are built and decorated with stones;

ਹਉ ਏਨੀ ਟੋਲੀ ਭੁਲੀਅਸੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਬੈਠੀ ਪਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

हउ एनी टोली भुलीअसु तिसु कंत न बैठी पासि जीउ ॥

Hau enee tolee bhuleeasu tisu kantt na baithee paasi jeeu ||

I have been fooled by these decorations, and I do not sit near my Husband Lord.

ਅੰਬਰਿ ਕੂੰਜਾ ਕੁਰਲੀਆ ਬਗ ਬਹਿਠੇ ਆਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

अ्मबरि कूंजा कुरलीआ बग बहिठे आइ जीउ ॥

Ambbari koonjjaa kuraleeaa bag bahithe aai jeeu ||

The cranes shriek overhead in the sky, and the herons have come to rest.

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਚਲੀ ਸਾਹੁਰੈ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸੀ ਅਗੈ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

सा धन चली साहुरै किआ मुहु देसी अगै जाइ जीउ ॥

Saa dhan chalee saahurai kiaa muhu desee agai jaai jeeu ||

The bride has gone to her father-in-law's house; in the world hereafter, what face will she show?

ਸੁਤੀ ਸੁਤੀ ਝਾਲੁ ਥੀਆ ਭੁਲੀ ਵਾਟੜੀਆਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

सुती सुती झालु थीआ भुली वाटड़ीआसु जीउ ॥

Sutee sutee jhaalu theeaa bhulee vaata(rr)eeaasu jeeu ||

She kept sleeping as the day dawned; she forgot all about her journey.

ਤੈ ਸਹ ਨਾਲਹੁ ਮੁਤੀਅਸੁ ਦੁਖਾ ਕੂੰ ਧਰੀਆਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

तै सह नालहु मुतीअसु दुखा कूं धरीआसु जीउ ॥

Tai sah naalahu muteeasu dukhaa koonn dhareeaasu jeeu ||

She separated herself from her Husband Lord, and now she suffers in pain.

ਤੁਧੁ ਗੁਣ ਮੈ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣਾ ਇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

तुधु गुण मै सभि अवगणा इक नानक की अरदासि जीउ ॥

Tudhu gu(nn) mai sabhi avaga(nn)aa ik naanak kee aradaasi jeeu ||

Virtue is in You, O Lord; I am totally without virtue. This is Nanak's only prayer:

ਸਭਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮੈ ਡੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਕਾਈ ਰਾਤਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

सभि राती सोहागणी मै डोहागणि काई राति जीउ ॥१॥

Sabhi raatee sohaaga(nn)ee mai dohaaga(nn)i kaaee raati jeeu ||1||

You give all Your nights to the virtuous soul-brides. I know I am unworthy, but isn't there a night for me as well? ||1||


ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਸੁਚਜੀ ॥

सूही महला १ सुचजी ॥

Soohee mahalaa 1 suchajee ||

Soohee, First Mehl, Suchajee ~ The Noble And Graceful Bride:

ਜਾ ਤੂ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

जा तू ता मै सभु को तू साहिबु मेरी रासि जीउ ॥

Jaa too taa mai sabhu ko too saahibu meree raasi jeeu ||

When I have You, then I have everything. O my Lord and Master, You are my wealth and capital.

ਤੁਧੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਾ ਤੂੰ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

तुधु अंतरि हउ सुखि वसा तूं अंतरि साबासि जीउ ॥

Tudhu anttari hau sukhi vasaa toonn anttari saabaasi jeeu ||

Within You, I abide in peace; within You, I am congratulated.

ਭਾਣੈ ਤਖਤਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਭਾਣੈ ਭੀਖ ਉਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

भाणै तखति वडाईआ भाणै भीख उदासि जीउ ॥

Bhaa(nn)ai takhati vadaaeeaa bhaa(nn)ai bheekh udaasi jeeu ||

By the Pleasure of Your Will, You bestow thrones and greatness. And by the Pleasure of Your Will, You make us beggars and wanderers.

ਭਾਣੈ ਥਲ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਰੁ ਵਹੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਫੁਲੈ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

भाणै थल सिरि सरु वहै कमलु फुलै आकासि जीउ ॥

Bhaa(nn)ai thal siri saru vahai kamalu phulai aakaasi jeeu ||

By the Pleasure of Your Will, the ocean flows in the desert, and the lotus blossoms in the sky.

ਭਾਣੈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਲੰਘੀਐ ਭਾਣੈ ਮੰਝਿ ਭਰੀਆਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

भाणै भवजलु लंघीऐ भाणै मंझि भरीआसि जीउ ॥

Bhaa(nn)ai bhavajalu langgheeai bhaa(nn)ai manjjhi bhareeaasi jeeu ||

By the Pleasure of Your Will, one crosses over the terrifying world-ocean; by the Pleasure of Your Will, he sinks down into it.

ਭਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਰਤਾ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

भाणै सो सहु रंगुला सिफति रता गुणतासि जीउ ॥

Bhaa(nn)ai so sahu ranggulaa siphati rataa gu(nn)ataasi jeeu ||

By the Pleasure of His Will, that Lord becomes my Husband, and I am imbued with the Praises of the Lord, the treasure of virtue.

ਭਾਣੈ ਸਹੁ ਭੀਹਾਵਲਾ ਹਉ ਆਵਣਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਮੁਈਆਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

भाणै सहु भीहावला हउ आवणि जाणि मुईआसि जीउ ॥

Bhaa(nn)ai sahu bheehaavalaa hau aava(nn)i jaa(nn)i mueeaasi jeeu ||

By the Pleasure of Your Will, O my Husband Lord, I am afraid of You, and I come and go, and die.

ਤੂ ਸਹੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਤੋਲਵਾ ਹਉ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਢਹਿ ਪਈਆਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

तू सहु अगमु अतोलवा हउ कहि कहि ढहि पईआसि जीउ ॥

Too sahu agamu atolavaa hau kahi kahi dhahi paeeaasi jeeu ||

You, O my Husband Lord, are inaccessible and immeasurable; talking and speaking of You, I have fallen at Your Feet.

ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਮੈ ਦਰਸਨ ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

किआ मागउ किआ कहि सुणी मै दरसन भूख पिआसि जीउ ॥

Kiaa maagau kiaa kahi su(nn)ee mai darasan bhookh piaasi jeeu ||

What should I beg for? What should I say and hear? I am hungry and thirsty for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਹੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

गुर सबदी सहु पाइआ सचु नानक की अरदासि जीउ ॥२॥

Gur sabadee sahu paaiaa sachu naanak kee aradaasi jeeu ||2||

Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, I have found my Husband Lord. This is Nanak's true prayer. ||2||


ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ॥

सूही महला ५ गुणवंती ॥

Soohee mahalaa 5 gu(nn)avanttee ||

Soohee, Fifth Mehl, Gunvantee ~ The Worthy And Virtuous Bride:

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਗੁਰਸਿਖੜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

जो दीसै गुरसिखड़ा तिसु निवि निवि लागउ पाइ जीउ ॥

Jo deesai gurasikha(rr)aa tisu nivi nivi laagau paai jeeu ||

When I see a Sikh of the Guru, I humbly bow and fall at his feet.

ਆਖਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਜਣੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

आखा बिरथा जीअ की गुरु सजणु देहि मिलाइ जीउ ॥

Aakhaa birathaa jeea kee guru saja(nn)u dehi milaai jeeu ||

I tell to him the pain of my soul, and beg him to unite me with the Guru, my Best Friend.

ਸੋਈ ਦਸਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੜਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

सोई दसि उपदेसड़ा मेरा मनु अनत न काहू जाइ जीउ ॥

Soee dasi upadesa(rr)aa meraa manu anat na kaahoo jaai jeeu ||

I ask that he impart to me such an understanding, that my mind will not go out wandering anywhere else.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤੈ ਕੂੰ ਡੇਵਸਾ ਮੈ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਬਤਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

इहु मनु तै कूं डेवसा मै मारगु देहु बताइ जीउ ॥

Ihu manu tai koonn devasaa mai maaragu dehu bataai jeeu ||

I dedicate this mind to you. Please, show me the Path to God.

ਹਉ ਆਇਆ ਦੂਰਹੁ ਚਲਿ ਕੈ ਮੈ ਤਕੀ ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

हउ आइआ दूरहु चलि कै मै तकी तउ सरणाइ जीउ ॥

Hau aaiaa doorahu chali kai mai takee tau sara(nn)aai jeeu ||

I have come so far, seeking the Protection of Your Sanctuary.

ਮੈ ਆਸਾ ਰਖੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਭੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

मै आसा रखी चिति महि मेरा सभो दुखु गवाइ जीउ ॥

Mai aasaa rakhee chiti mahi meraa sabho dukhu gavaai jeeu ||

Within my mind, I place my hopes in You; please, take my pain and suffering away!

ਇਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲੇ ਭਾਈਅੜੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

इतु मारगि चले भाईअड़े गुरु कहै सु कार कमाइ जीउ ॥

Itu maaragi chale bhaaeea(rr)e guru kahai su kaar kamaai jeeu ||

So walk on this Path, O sister soul-brides; do that work which the Guru tells you to do.

ਤਿਆਗੇਂ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤੜੀ ਵਿਸਾਰੇਂ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

तिआगें मन की मतड़ी विसारें दूजा भाउ जीउ ॥

Tiaagen man kee mata(rr)ee visaaren doojaa bhaau jeeu ||

Abandon the intellectual pursuits of the mind, and forget the love of duality.

ਇਉ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਾਵੜਾ ਨਹ ਲਗੈ ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

इउ पावहि हरि दरसावड़ा नह लगै तती वाउ जीउ ॥

Iu paavahi hari darasaava(rr)aa nah lagai tatee vaau jeeu ||

In this way, you shall obtain the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan; the hot winds shall not even touch you.

ਹਉ ਆਪਹੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

हउ आपहु बोलि न जाणदा मै कहिआ सभु हुकमाउ जीउ ॥

Hau aapahu boli na jaa(nn)adaa mai kahiaa sabhu hukamaau jeeu ||

By myself, I do not even know how to speak; I speak all that the Lord commands.

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਕੀਆ ਪਸਾਉ ਜੀਉ ॥

हरि भगति खजाना बखसिआ गुरि नानकि कीआ पसाउ जीउ ॥

Hari bhagati khajaanaa bakhasiaa guri naanaki keeaa pasaau jeeu ||

I am blessed with the treasure of the Lord's devotional worship; Guru Nanak has been kind and compassionate to me.

ਮੈ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖੜੀ ਹਉ ਰਜਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥

मै बहुड़ि न त्रिसना भुखड़ी हउ रजा त्रिपति अघाइ जीउ ॥

Mai bahu(rr)i na trisanaa bhukha(rr)ee hau rajaa tripati aghaai jeeu ||

I shall never again feel hunger or thirst; I am satisfied, satiated and fulfilled.

ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਿਖੜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

जो गुर दीसै सिखड़ा तिसु निवि निवि लागउ पाइ जीउ ॥३॥

Jo gur deesai sikha(rr)aa tisu nivi nivi laagau paai jeeu ||3||

When I see a Sikh of the Guru, I humbly bow and fall at his feet. ||3||
