ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

गुर सबदी सचु पाइआ दूख निवारणहारु ॥

Gur sabadee sachu paaiaa dookh nivaara(nn)ahaaru ||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they obtain the True One, the Destroyer of pain.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

सदा सदा साचे गुण गावहि साचै नाइ पिआरु ॥

Sadaa sadaa saache gu(nn) gaavahi saachai naai piaaru ||

Forever and ever, they sing the Glorious Praises of the True One; they love the True Name.

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਿਤੋਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

किरपा करि कै आपणी दितोनु भगति भंडारु ॥१॥

Kirapaa kari kai aapa(nn)ee ditonu bhagati bhanddaaru ||1||

When the Lord Himself grants His Grace, He bestows the treasure of devotion. ||1||


ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥

मन रे सदा अनंदु गुण गाइ ॥

Man re sadaa ananddu gu(nn) gaai ||

O mind, sing His Glorious Praises, and be in ecstasy forever.

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सची बाणी हरि पाईऐ हरि सिउ रहै समाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sachee baa(nn)ee hari paaeeai hari siu rahai samaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Through the True Word of His Bani, the Lord is obtained, and one remains immersed in the Lord. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਥੀਆ ਰਤਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

सची भगती मनु लालु थीआ रता सहजि सुभाइ ॥

Sachee bhagatee manu laalu theeaa rataa sahaji subhaai ||

In true devotion, the mind is dyed in the deep crimson color of the Lord's Love, with intuitive peace and poise.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

गुर सबदी मनु मोहिआ कहणा कछू न जाइ ॥

Gur sabadee manu mohiaa kaha(nn)aa kachhoo na jaai ||

The mind is fascinated by the Word of the Guru's Shabad, which cannot be described.

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਰਤੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਰਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥

जिहवा रती सबदि सचै अम्रितु पीवै रसि गुण गाइ ॥

Jihavaa ratee sabadi sachai ammmritu peevai rasi gu(nn) gaai ||

The tongue imbued with the True Word of the Shabad drinks in the Amrit with delight, singing His Glorious Praises.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि एहु रंगु पाईऐ जिस नो किरपा करे रजाइ ॥२॥

Guramukhi ehu ranggu paaeeai jis no kirapaa kare rajaai ||2||

The Gurmukh obtains this love, when the Lord, in His Will, grants His Grace. ||2||


ਸੰਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਤਿਆ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥

संसा इहु संसारु है सुतिआ रैणि विहाइ ॥

Sanssaa ihu sanssaaru hai sutiaa rai(nn)i vihaai ||

This world is an illusion; people pass their life-nights sleeping.

ਇਕਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਕਢਿ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਲਇਓਨੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

इकि आपणै भाणै कढि लइअनु आपे लइओनु मिलाइ ॥

Iki aapa(nn)ai bhaa(nn)ai kadhi laianu aape laionu milaai ||

By the Pleasure of His Will, He lifts some out, and unites them with Himself.

ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇ ॥

आपे ही आपि मनि वसिआ माइआ मोहु चुकाइ ॥

Aape hee aapi mani vasiaa maaiaa mohu chukaai ||

He Himself abides in the mind, and drives out attachment to Maya.

ਆਪਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥੩॥

आपि वडाई दितीअनु गुरमुखि देइ बुझाइ ॥३॥

Aapi vadaaee diteeanu guramukhi dei bujhaai ||3||

He Himself bestows glorious greatness; He inspires the Gurmukh to understand. ||3||


ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਭੁਲਿਆ ਲਏ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥

सभना का दाता एकु है भुलिआ लए समझाइ ॥

Sabhanaa kaa daataa eku hai bhuliaa lae samajhaai ||

The One Lord is the Giver of all. He corrects those who make mistakes.

ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਛਡਿਅਨੁ ਲਾਇ ॥

इकि आपे आपि खुआइअनु दूजै छडिअनु लाइ ॥

Iki aape aapi khuaaianu doojai chhadianu laai ||

He Himself has deceived some, and attached them to duality.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

गुरमती हरि पाईऐ जोती जोति मिलाइ ॥

Guramatee hari paaeeai jotee joti milaai ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Lord is found, and one's light merges into the Light.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੨੫॥੫੮॥

अनदिनु नामे रतिआ नानक नामि समाइ ॥४॥२५॥५८॥

Anadinu naame ratiaa naanak naami samaai ||4||25||58||

Attuned to the Name of the Lord night and day, O Nanak, you shall be absorbed into the Name. ||4||25||58||

ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥

गुणवंती सचु पाइआ त्रिसना तजि विकार ॥

Gu(nn)avanttee sachu paaiaa trisanaa taji vikaar ||

The virtuous obtain Truth; they give up their desires for evil and corruption.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

गुर सबदी मनु रंगिआ रसना प्रेम पिआरि ॥

Gur sabadee manu ranggiaa rasanaa prem piaari ||

Their minds are imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad; the Love of their Beloved is on their tongues.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

बिनु सतिगुर किनै न पाइओ करि वेखहु मनि वीचारि ॥

Binu satigur kinai na paaio kari vekhahu mani veechaari ||

Without the True Guru, no one has found Him; reflect upon this in your mind and see.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥

मनमुख मैलु न उतरै जिचरु गुर सबदि न करे पिआरु ॥१॥

Manamukh mailu na utarai jicharu gur sabadi na kare piaaru ||1||

The filth of the self-willed manmukhs is not washed off; they have no love for the Guru's Shabad. ||1||


ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੁ ॥

मन मेरे सतिगुर कै भाणै चलु ॥

Man mere satigur kai bhaa(nn)ai chalu ||

O my mind, walk in harmony with the True Guru.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਸੁਖ ਲਹਹਿ ਮਹਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

निज घरि वसहि अम्रितु पीवहि ता सुख लहहि महलु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Nij ghari vasahi ammmritu peevahi taa sukh lahahi mahalu ||1|| rahaau ||

Dwell within the home of your own inner being, and drink in the Ambrosial Nectar; you shall attain the Peace of the Mansion of His Presence. ||1|| Pause ||


ਅਉਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਗੁਣੁ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

अउगुणवंती गुणु को नही बहणि न मिलै हदूरि ॥

Augu(nn)avanttee gu(nn)u ko nahee baha(nn)i na milai hadoori ||

The unvirtuous have no merit; they are not allowed to sit in His Presence.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

मनमुखि सबदु न जाणई अवगणि सो प्रभु दूरि ॥

Manamukhi sabadu na jaa(nn)aee avaga(nn)i so prbhu doori ||

The self-willed manmukhs do not know the Shabad; those without virtue are far removed from God.

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

जिनी सचु पछाणिआ सचि रते भरपूरि ॥

Jinee sachu pachhaa(nn)iaa sachi rate bharapoori ||

Those who recognize the True One are permeated and attuned to Truth.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥

गुर सबदी मनु बेधिआ प्रभु मिलिआ आपि हदूरि ॥२॥

Gur sabadee manu bedhiaa prbhu miliaa aapi hadoori ||2||

Their minds are pierced through by the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and God Himself ushers them into His Presence. ||2||


ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗਣਿ ਰੰਗਿਓਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਲਇਓਨੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

आपे रंगणि रंगिओनु सबदे लइओनु मिलाइ ॥

Aape rangga(nn)i ranggionu sabade laionu milaai ||

He Himself dyes us in the Color of His Love; through the Word of His Shabad, He unites us with Himself.

ਸਚਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

सचा रंगु न उतरै जो सचि रते लिव लाइ ॥

Sachaa ranggu na utarai jo sachi rate liv laai ||

This True Color shall not fade away, for those who are attuned to His Love.

ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

चारे कुंडा भवि थके मनमुख बूझ न पाइ ॥

Chaare kunddaa bhavi thake manamukh boojh na paai ||

The self-willed manmukhs grow weary of wandering around in all four directions, but they do not understand.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

जिसु सतिगुरु मेले सो मिलै सचै सबदि समाइ ॥३॥

Jisu satiguru mele so milai sachai sabadi samaai ||3||

One who is united with the True Guru, meets and merges in the True Word of the Shabad. ||3||


ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਥਕੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

मित्र घणेरे करि थकी मेरा दुखु काटै कोइ ॥

Mitr gha(nn)ere kari thakee meraa dukhu kaatai koi ||

I have grown weary of making so many friends, hoping that someone might be able to end my suffering.

ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

मिलि प्रीतम दुखु कटिआ सबदि मिलावा होइ ॥

Mili preetam dukhu katiaa sabadi milaavaa hoi ||

Meeting with my Beloved, my suffering has ended; I have attained Union with the Word of the Shabad.

ਸਚੁ ਖਟਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥

सचु खटणा सचु रासि है सचे सची सोइ ॥

Sachu khata(nn)aa sachu raasi hai sache sachee soi ||

Earning Truth, and accumulating the Wealth of Truth, the truthful person gains a reputation of Truth.

ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੨੬॥੫੯॥

सचि मिले से न विछुड़हि नानक गुरमुखि होइ ॥४॥२६॥५९॥

Sachi mile se na vichhu(rr)ahi naanak guramukhi hoi ||4||26||59||

Meeting with the True One, O Nanak, the Gurmukh shall not be separated from Him again. ||4||26||59||

ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ॥

आपे कारणु करता करे स्रिसटि देखै आपि उपाइ ॥

Aape kaara(nn)u karataa kare srisati dekhai aapi upaai ||

The Creator Himself created the Creation; He produced the Universe, and He Himself watches over it.

ਸਭ ਏਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

सभ एको इकु वरतदा अलखु न लखिआ जाइ ॥

Sabh eko iku varatadaa alakhu na lakhiaa jaai ||

The One and Only Lord is pervading and permeating all. The Unseen cannot be seen.

ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥

आपे प्रभू दइआलु है आपे देइ बुझाइ ॥

Aape prbhoo daiaalu hai aape dei bujhaai ||

God Himself is Merciful; He Himself bestows understanding.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

गुरमती सद मनि वसिआ सचि रहे लिव लाइ ॥१॥

Guramatee sad mani vasiaa sachi rahe liv laai ||1||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the True One dwells forever in the mind of those who remain lovingly attached to Him. ||1||


ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥

मन मेरे गुर की मंनि लै रजाइ ॥

Man mere gur kee manni lai rajaai ||

O my mind, surrender to the Guru's Will.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਭੁ ਥੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मनु तनु सीतलु सभु थीऐ नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Manu tanu seetalu sabhu theeai naamu vasai mani aai ||1|| rahaau ||

Mind and body are totally cooled and soothed, and the Naam comes to dwell in the mind. ||1|| Pause ||


ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

जिनि करि कारणु धारिआ सोई सार करेइ ॥

Jini kari kaara(nn)u dhaariaa soee saar karei ||

Having created the creation, He supports it and takes care of it.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

गुर कै सबदि पछाणीऐ जा आपे नदरि करेइ ॥

Gur kai sabadi pachhaa(nn)eeai jaa aape nadari karei ||

The Word of the Guru's Shabad is realized, when He Himself bestows His Glance of Grace.

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥

से जन सबदे सोहणे तितु सचै दरबारि ॥

Se jan sabade soha(nn)e titu sachai darabaari ||

Those who are beautifully adorned with the Shabad in the Court of the True Lord

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि सचै सबदि रते आपि मेले करतारि ॥२॥

Guramukhi sachai sabadi rate aapi mele karataari ||2||

-those Gurmukhs are attuned to the True Word of the Shabad; the Creator unites them with Himself. ||2||


ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥

गुरमती सचु सलाहणा जिस दा अंतु न पारावारु ॥

Guramatee sachu salaaha(nn)aa jis daa anttu na paaraavaaru ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, praise the True One, who has no end or limitation.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਵਸੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

घटि घटि आपे हुकमि वसै हुकमे करे बीचारु ॥

Ghati ghati aape hukami vasai hukame kare beechaaru ||

He dwells in each and every heart, by the Hukam of His Command; by His Hukam, we contemplate Him.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਖੋਇ ॥

गुर सबदी सालाहीऐ हउमै विचहु खोइ ॥

Gur sabadee saalaaheeai haumai vichahu khoi ||

So praise Him through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and drive out egotism from within.

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਅਵਗਣਵੰਤੀ ਰੋਇ ॥੩॥

सा धन नावै बाहरी अवगणवंती रोइ ॥३॥

Saa dhan naavai baaharee avaga(nn)avanttee roi ||3||

That soul-bride who lacks the Lord's Name acts without virtue, and so she grieves. ||3||


ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਚਿ ਲਗਾ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

सचु सलाही सचि लगा सचै नाइ त्रिपति होइ ॥

Sachu salaahee sachi lagaa sachai naai tripati hoi ||

Praising the True One, attached to the True One, I am satisfied with the True Name.

ਗੁਣ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਾ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਕਢਾ ਧੋਇ ॥

गुण वीचारी गुण संग्रहा अवगुण कढा धोइ ॥

Gu(nn) veechaaree gu(nn) sanggrhaa avagu(nn) kadhaa dhoi ||

Contemplating His Virtues, I accumulate virtue and merit; I wash myself clean of demerits.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

आपे मेलि मिलाइदा फिरि वेछोड़ा न होइ ॥

Aape meli milaaidaa phiri vechho(rr)aa na hoi ||

He Himself unites us in His Union; there is no more separation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਦੂ ਪਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੬੦॥

नानक गुरु सालाही आपणा जिदू पाई प्रभु सोइ ॥४॥२७॥६०॥

Naanak guru saalaahee aapa(nn)aa jidoo paaee prbhu soi ||4||27||60||

O Nanak, I sing the Praises of my Guru; through Him, I find that God. ||4||27||60||

सुणि सुणि काम गहेलीए किआ चलहि बाह लुडाइ ॥

Su(nn)i su(nn)i kaam gaheleee kiaa chalahi baah ludaai ||

Listen, listen, O soul-bride: you are overtaken by sexual desire-why do you walk like that, swinging your arms in joy?

ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

आपणा पिरु न पछाणही किआ मुहु देसहि जाइ ॥

Aapa(nn)aa piru na pachhaa(nn)ahee kiaa muhu desahi jaai ||

You do not recognize your own Husband Lord! When you go to Him, what face will you show Him?

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਖੀਂ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥

जिनी सखीं कंतु पछाणिआ हउ तिन कै लागउ पाइ ॥

Jinee sakheen kanttu pachhaa(nn)iaa hau tin kai laagau paai ||

I touch the feet of my sister soul-brides who have known their Husband Lord.

ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਥੀ ਰਹਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

तिन ही जैसी थी रहा सतसंगति मेलि मिलाइ ॥१॥

Tin hee jaisee thee rahaa satasanggati meli milaai ||1||

If only I could be like them! Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I am united in His Union. ||1||


ਮੁੰਧੇ ਕੂੜਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਕੂੜਿਆਰਿ ॥

मुंधे कूड़ि मुठी कूड़िआरि ॥

Munddhe koo(rr)i muthee koo(rr)iaari ||

O woman, the false ones are being cheated by falsehood.

ਪਿਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

पिरु प्रभु साचा सोहणा पाईऐ गुर बीचारि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Piru prbhu saachaa soha(nn)aa paaeeai gur beechaari ||1|| rahaau ||

God is your Husband; He is Handsome and True. He is obtained by reflecting upon the Guru. ||1|| Pause ||


ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਈ ਤਿਨ ਕਿਉ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥

मनमुखि कंतु न पछाणई तिन किउ रैणि विहाइ ॥

Manamukhi kanttu na pachhaa(nn)aee tin kiu rai(nn)i vihaai ||

The self-willed manmukhs do not recognize their Husband Lord; how will they spend their life-night?

ਗਰਬਿ ਅਟੀਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

गरबि अटीआ त्रिसना जलहि दुखु पावहि दूजै भाइ ॥

Garabi ateeaa trisanaa jalahi dukhu paavahi doojai bhaai ||

Filled with arrogance, they burn with desire; they suffer in the pain of the love of duality.

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

सबदि रतीआ सोहागणी तिन विचहु हउमै जाइ ॥

Sabadi rateeaa sohaaga(nn)ee tin vichahu haumai jaai ||

The happy soul-brides are attuned to the Shabad; their egotism is eliminated from within.

ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਿਨਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥੨॥

सदा पिरु रावहि आपणा तिना सुखे सुखि विहाइ ॥२॥

Sadaa piru raavahi aapa(nn)aa tinaa sukhe sukhi vihaai ||2||

They enjoy their Husband Lord forever, and their life-night passes in the most blissful peace. ||2||


ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਪਿਰ ਮੁਤੀਆ ਪਿਰਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

गिआन विहूणी पिर मुतीआ पिरमु न पाइआ जाइ ॥

Giaan vihoo(nn)ee pir muteeaa piramu na paaiaa jaai ||

She is utterly lacking in spiritual wisdom; she is abandoned by her Husband Lord. She cannot obtain His Love.

ਅਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਹੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

अगिआन मती अंधेरु है बिनु पिर देखे भुख न जाइ ॥

Agiaan matee anddheru hai binu pir dekhe bhukh na jaai ||

In the darkness of intellectual ignorance, she cannot see her Husband, and her hunger does not depart.

ਆਵਹੁ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

आवहु मिलहु सहेलीहो मै पिरु देहु मिलाइ ॥

Aavahu milahu saheleeho mai piru dehu milaai ||

Come and meet with me, my sister soul-brides, and unite me with my Husband.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

पूरै भागि सतिगुरु मिलै पिरु पाइआ सचि समाइ ॥३॥

Poorai bhaagi satiguru milai piru paaiaa sachi samaai ||3||

She who meets the True Guru, by perfect good fortune, finds her Husband; she is absorbed in the True One. ||3||


ਸੇ ਸਹੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

से सहीआ सोहागणी जिन कउ नदरि करेइ ॥

Se saheeaa sohaaga(nn)ee jin kau nadari karei ||

Those upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace become His happy soul-brides.

ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਦੇਇ ॥

खसमु पछाणहि आपणा तनु मनु आगै देइ ॥

Khasamu pachhaa(nn)ahi aapa(nn)aa tanu manu aagai dei ||

One who recognizes her Lord and Master places her body and mind in offering before Him.

ਘਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

घरि वरु पाइआ आपणा हउमै दूरि करेइ ॥

Ghari varu paaiaa aapa(nn)aa haumai doori karei ||

Within her own home, she finds her Husband Lord; her egotism is dispelled.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੬੧॥

नानक सोभावंतीआ सोहागणी अनदिनु भगति करेइ ॥४॥२८॥६१॥

Naanak sobhaavantteeaa sohaaga(nn)ee anadinu bhagati karei ||4||28||61||

O Nanak, the happy soul-brides are embellished and exalted; night and day they are absorbed in devotional worship. ||4||28||61||


ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Siree Raag, Third Mehl:

ਇਕਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ॥

इकि पिरु रावहि आपणा हउ कै दरि पूछउ जाइ ॥

Iki piru raavahi aapa(nn)aa hau kai dari poochhau jaai ||

Some enjoy their Husband Lord; unto whose door should I go to ask for Him?

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवी भाउ करि मै पिरु देहु मिलाइ ॥

Satiguru sevee bhaau kari mai piru dehu milaai ||

I serve my True Guru with love, that He may lead me to Union with my Husband Lord.

ਸਭੁ ਉਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

सभु उपाए आपे वेखै किसु नेड़ै किसु दूरि ॥

Sabhu upaae aape vekhai kisu ne(rr)ai kisu doori ||

He created all, and He Himself watches over us. Some are close to Him, and some are far away.

ਜਿਨਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਸੰਗੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥

जिनि पिरु संगे जाणिआ पिरु रावे सदा हदूरि ॥१॥

Jini piru sangge jaa(nn)iaa piru raave sadaa hadoori ||1||

She who knows her Husband Lord to be always with her, enjoys His Constant Presence. ||1||


ਮੁੰਧੇ ਤੂ ਚਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

मुंधे तू चलु गुर कै भाइ ॥

Munddhe too chalu gur kai bhaai ||

O woman, you must walk in harmony with the Guru's Will.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

अनदिनु रावहि पिरु आपणा सहजे सचि समाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Anadinu raavahi piru aapa(nn)aa sahaje sachi samaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Night and day, you shall enjoy your Husband, and you shall intuitively merge into the True One. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ॥

सबदि रतीआ सोहागणी सचै सबदि सीगारि ॥

Sabadi rateeaa sohaaga(nn)ee sachai sabadi seegaari ||

Attuned to the Shabad, the happy soul-brides are adorned with the True Word of the Shabad.

ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

हरि वरु पाइनि घरि आपणै गुर कै हेति पिआरि ॥

Hari varu paaini ghari aapa(nn)ai gur kai heti piaari ||

Within their own home, they obtain the Lord as their Husband, with love for the Guru.

ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥

सेज सुहावी हरि रंगि रवै भगति भरे भंडार ॥

Sej suhaavee hari ranggi ravai bhagati bhare bhanddaar ||

Upon her beautiful and cozy bed, she enjoys the Love of her Lord. She is overflowing with the treasure of devotion.

ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਿ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

सो प्रभु प्रीतमु मनि वसै जि सभसै देइ अधारु ॥२॥

So prbhu preetamu mani vasai ji sabhasai dei adhaaru ||2||

That Beloved God abides in her mind; He gives His Support to all. ||2||


ਪਿਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥

पिरु सालाहनि आपणा तिन कै हउ सद बलिहारै जाउ ॥

Piru saalaahani aapa(nn)aa tin kai hau sad balihaarai jaau ||

I am forever a sacrifice to those who praise their Husband Lord.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੇਈ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਾ ਪਾਇ ॥

मनु तनु अरपी सिरु देई तिन कै लागा पाइ ॥

Manu tanu arapee siru deee tin kai laagaa paai ||

I dedicate my mind and body to them, and give my head as well; I fall at their feet.

ਜਿਨੀ ਇਕੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਚੁਕਾਇ ॥

जिनी इकु पछाणिआ दूजा भाउ चुकाइ ॥

Jinee iku pachhaa(nn)iaa doojaa bhaau chukaai ||

Those who recognize the One renounce the love of duality.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥੨੯॥੬੨॥

गुरमुखि नामु पछाणीऐ नानक सचि समाइ ॥३॥२९॥६२॥

Guramukhi naamu pachhaa(nn)eeai naanak sachi samaai ||3||29||62||

The Gurmukh recognizes the Naam, O Nanak, and is absorbed into the True One. ||3||29||62||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਤੂ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਚੀਰੈ ॥

हरि जी सचा सचु तू सभु किछु तेरै चीरै ॥

Hari jee sachaa sachu too sabhu kichhu terai cheerai ||

O Dear Lord, You are the Truest of the True. All things are in Your Power.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਫਿਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੀਰੈ ॥

लख चउरासीह तरसदे फिरे बिनु गुर भेटे पीरै ॥

Lakh chauraaseeh tarasade phire binu gur bhete peerai ||

The 8.4 million species of beings wander around searching for You, but without the Guru, they do not find You.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਸੂਖ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰੈ ॥

हरि जीउ बखसे बखसि लए सूख सदा सरीरै ॥

Hari jeeu bakhase bakhasi lae sookh sadaa sareerai ||

When the Dear Lord grants His Forgiveness, this human body finds lasting peace.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੈ ॥੧॥

गुर परसादी सेव करी सचु गहिर ग्मभीरै ॥१॥

Gur parasaadee sev karee sachu gahir gambbheerai ||1||

By Guru's Grace, I serve the True One, who is Immeasurably Deep and Profound. ||1||


ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

मन मेरे नामि रते सुखु होइ ॥

Man mere naami rate sukhu hoi ||

O my mind, attuned to the Naam, you shall find peace.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरमती नामु सलाहीऐ दूजा अवरु न कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guramatee naamu salaaheeai doojaa avaru na koi ||1|| rahaau ||

Follow the Guru's Teachings, and praise the Naam; there is no other at all. ||1|| Pause ||


ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਨੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਬਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

धरम राइ नो हुकमु है बहि सचा धरमु बीचारि ॥

Dharam raai no hukamu hai bahi sachaa dharamu beechaari ||

The Righteous Judge of Dharma, by the Hukam of God's Command, sits and administers True Justice.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਆਤਮਾ ਓਹੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ॥

दूजै भाइ दुसटु आतमा ओहु तेरी सरकार ॥

Doojai bhaai dusatu aatamaa ohu teree sarakaar ||

Those evil souls, ensnared by the love of duality, are subject to Your Command.

ਅਧਿਆਤਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਤਾਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਜਪਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥

अधिआतमी हरि गुण तासु मनि जपहि एकु मुरारि ॥

Adhiaatamee hari gu(nn) taasu mani japahi eku muraari ||

The souls on their spiritual journey chant and meditate within their minds on the One Lord, the Treasure of Excellence.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਰੈ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

तिन की सेवा धरम राइ करै धंनु सवारणहारु ॥२॥

Tin kee sevaa dharam raai karai dhannu savaara(nn)ahaaru ||2||

The Righteous Judge of Dharma serves them; blessed is the Lord who adorns them. ||2||


ਮਨ ਕੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਨਹਿ ਤਜੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

मन के बिकार मनहि तजै मनि चूकै मोहु अभिमानु ॥

Man ke bikaar manahi tajai mani chookai mohu abhimaanu ||

One who eliminates mental wickedness from within the mind, and casts out emotional attachment and egotistical pride,

ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਨੁ ॥

आतम रामु पछाणिआ सहजे नामि समानु ॥

Aatam raamu pachhaa(nn)iaa sahaje naami samaanu ||

Comes to recognize the All-pervading Soul, and is intuitively absorbed into the Naam.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਵਾਨੁ ॥

बिनु सतिगुर मुकति न पाईऐ मनमुखि फिरै दिवानु ॥

Binu satigur mukati na paaeeai manamukhi phirai divaanu ||

Without the True Guru, the self-willed manmukhs do not find liberation; they wander around like lunatics.

ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਕਰੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥

सबदु न चीनै कथनी बदनी करे बिखिआ माहि समानु ॥३॥

Sabadu na cheenai kathanee badanee kare bikhiaa maahi samaanu ||3||

They do not contemplate the Shabad; engrossed in corruption, they utter only empty words. ||3||


ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

सभु किछु आपे आपि है दूजा अवरु न कोइ ॥

Sabhu kichhu aape aapi hai doojaa avaru na koi ||

He Himself is everything; there is no other at all.

ਜਿਉ ਬੋਲਾਏ ਤਿਉ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥

जिउ बोलाए तिउ बोलीऐ जा आपि बुलाए सोइ ॥

Jiu bolaae tiu boleeai jaa aapi bulaae soi ||

I speak just as He makes me speak, when He Himself makes me speak.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

गुरमुखि बाणी ब्रहमु है सबदि मिलावा होइ ॥

Guramukhi baa(nn)ee brhamu hai sabadi milaavaa hoi ||

The Word of the Gurmukh is God Himself. Through the Shabad, we merge in Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੬੩॥

नानक नामु समालि तू जितु सेविऐ सुखु होइ ॥४॥३०॥६३॥

Naanak naamu samaali too jitu seviai sukhu hoi ||4||30||63||

O Nanak, remember the Naam; serving Him, peace is obtained. ||4||30||63||

जगि हउमै मैलु दुखु पाइआ मलु लागी दूजै भाइ ॥

Jagi haumai mailu dukhu paaiaa malu laagee doojai bhaai ||

The world is polluted with the filth of egotism, suffering in pain. This filth sticks to them because of their love of duality.

ਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਧੋਤੀ ਕਿਵੈ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ॥

मलु हउमै धोती किवै न उतरै जे सउ तीरथ नाइ ॥

Malu haumai dhotee kivai na utarai je sau teerath naai ||

This filth of egotism cannot be washed away, even by taking cleansing baths at hundreds of sacred shrines.

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਦੂਣੀ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਇ ॥

बहु बिधि करम कमावदे दूणी मलु लागी आइ ॥

Bahu bidhi karam kamaavade doo(nn)ee malu laagee aai ||

Performing all sorts of rituals, people are smeared with twice as much filth.

ਪੜਿਐ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

पड़िऐ मैलु न उतरै पूछहु गिआनीआ जाइ ॥१॥

Pa(rr)iai mailu na utarai poochhahu giaaneeaa jaai ||1||

This filth is not removed by studying. Go ahead, and ask the wise ones. ||1||


ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

मन मेरे गुर सरणि आवै ता निरमलु होइ ॥

Man mere gur sara(nn)i aavai taa niramalu hoi ||

O my mind, coming to the Sanctuary of the Guru, you shall become immaculate and pure.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਕੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਧੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

मनमुख हरि हरि करि थके मैलु न सकी धोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Manamukh hari hari kari thake mailu na sakee dhoi ||1|| rahaau ||

The self-willed manmukhs have grown weary of chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, but their filth cannot be removed. ||1|| Pause ||


ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

मनि मैलै भगति न होवई नामु न पाइआ जाइ ॥

Mani mailai bhagati na hovaee naamu na paaiaa jaai ||

With a polluted mind, devotional service cannot be performed, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, cannot be obtained.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੇ ਮੈਲੇ ਮੁਏ ਜਾਸਨਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

मनमुख मैले मैले मुए जासनि पति गवाइ ॥

Manamukh maile maile mue jaasani pati gavaai ||

The filthy, self-willed manmukhs die in filth, and they depart in disgrace.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

गुर परसादी मनि वसै मलु हउमै जाइ समाइ ॥

Gur parasaadee mani vasai malu haumai jaai samaai ||

By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to abide in the mind, and the filth of egotism is dispelled.

ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੇਰੈ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਬਾਲੀਐ ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

जिउ अंधेरै दीपकु बालीऐ तिउ गुर गिआनि अगिआनु तजाइ ॥२॥

Jiu anddherai deepaku baaleeai tiu gur giaani agiaanu tajaai ||2||

Like a lamp lit in the darkness, the spiritual wisdom of the Guru dispels ignorance. ||2||


ਹਮ ਕੀਆ ਹਮ ਕਰਹਗੇ ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥

हम कीआ हम करहगे हम मूरख गावार ॥

Ham keeaa ham karahage ham moorakh gaavaar ||

"I have done this, and I will do that"-I am an idiotic fool for saying this!

ਕਰਣੈ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

करणै वाला विसरिआ दूजै भाइ पिआरु ॥

Kara(nn)ai vaalaa visariaa doojai bhaai piaaru ||

I have forgotten the Doer of all; I am caught in the love of duality.

ਮਾਇਆ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਭਿ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥

माइआ जेवडु दुखु नही सभि भवि थके संसारु ॥

Maaiaa jevadu dukhu nahee sabhi bhavi thake sanssaaru ||

There is no pain as great as the pain of Maya; it drives people to wander all around the world, until they become exhausted.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥

गुरमती सुखु पाईऐ सचु नामु उर धारि ॥३॥

Guramatee sukhu paaeeai sachu naamu ur dhaari ||3||

Through the Guru's Teachings, peace is found, with the True Name enshrined in the heart. ||3||


ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥

जिस नो मेले सो मिलै हउ तिसु बलिहारै जाउ ॥

Jis no mele so milai hau tisu balihaarai jaau ||

I am a sacrifice to those who meet and merge with the Lord.

ਏ ਮਨ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਜ ਥਾਉ ॥

ए मन भगती रतिआ सचु बाणी निज थाउ ॥

E man bhagatee ratiaa sachu baa(nn)ee nij thaau ||

This mind is attuned to devotional worship; through the True Word of Gurbani, it finds its own home.

ਮਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਚੇ ਗਾਉ ॥

मनि रते जिहवा रती हरि गुण सचे गाउ ॥

Mani rate jihavaa ratee hari gu(nn) sache gaau ||

With the mind so imbued, and the tongue imbued as well, sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੪॥੩੧॥੬੪॥

नानक नामु न वीसरै सचे माहि समाउ ॥४॥३१॥६४॥

Naanak naamu na veesarai sache maahi samaau ||4||31||64||

O Nanak, never forget the Naam; immerse yourself in the True One. ||4||31||64||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

गुरमुखि क्रिपा करे भगति कीजै बिनु गुर भगति न होइ ॥

Guramukhi kripaa kare bhagati keejai binu gur bhagati na hoi ||

By God's Grace, the Gurmukh practices devotion; without the Guru, there is no devotional worship.

ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

आपै आपु मिलाए बूझै ता निरमलु होवै कोइ ॥

Aapai aapu milaae boojhai taa niramalu hovai koi ||

One who merges his own self into Him understands, and so becomes pure.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥

हरि जीउ सचा सची बाणी सबदि मिलावा होइ ॥१॥

Hari jeeu sachaa sachee baa(nn)ee sabadi milaavaa hoi ||1||

The Dear Lord is True, and True is the Word of His Bani. Through the Word of the Shabad, Union with Him is obtained. ||1||


ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਣੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਗਿ ਆਇਆ ॥

भाई रे भगतिहीणु काहे जगि आइआ ॥

Bhaaee re bhagatihee(nn)u kaahe jagi aaiaa ||

O Siblings of Destiny, without devotion, why have people even come into the world?

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

पूरे गुर की सेव न कीनी बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Poore gur kee sev na keenee birathaa janamu gavaaiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

They have not served the Perfect Guru; they have wasted their lives in vain. ||1|| Pause ||


ਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

आपे हरि जगजीवनु दाता आपे बखसि मिलाए ॥

Aape hari jagajeevanu daataa aape bakhasi milaae ||

The Lord Himself, the Life of the World, is the Giver. He Himself forgives, and unites us with Himself.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਏ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥

जीअ जंत ए किआ वेचारे किआ को आखि सुणाए ॥

Jeea jantt e kiaa vechaare kiaa ko aakhi su(nn)aae ||

What are these poor beings and creatures? What can they speak and say?

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि आपे दे वडिआई आपे सेव कराए ॥२॥

Guramukhi aape de vadiaaee aape sev karaae ||2||

God Himself grants glory to the Gurmukhs; He joins them to His Service. ||2||


ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੋਭਾਣਾ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

देखि कुट्मबु मोहि लोभाणा चलदिआ नालि न जाई ॥

Dekhi kutambbu mohi lobhaa(nn)aa chaladiaa naali na jaaee ||

Beholding your family, you are lured away by emotional attachment, but when you leave, they will not go with you.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवि गुण निधानु पाइआ तिस की कीम न पाई ॥

Satiguru sevi gu(nn) nidhaanu paaiaa tis kee keem na paaee ||

Serving the True Guru, I have found the Treasure of Excellence. Its value cannot be estimated.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੩॥

प्रभु सखा हरि जीउ मेरा अंते होइ सखाई ॥३॥

Prbhu sakhaa hari jeeu meraa antte hoi sakhaaee ||3||

The Dear Lord God is my Best Friend. In the end, He shall be my Companion and Support. ||3||


ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥

पेईअड़ै जगजीवनु दाता मनमुखि पति गवाई ॥

Peeea(rr)ai jagajeevanu daataa manamukhi pati gavaaee ||

In this world of my father's home, the Great Giver is the Life of the World. The self-willed manmukhs have lost their honor.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਧੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥

बिनु सतिगुर को मगु न जाणै अंधे ठउर न काई ॥

Binu satigur ko magu na jaa(nn)ai anddhe thaur na kaaee ||

Without the True Guru, no one knows the Way. The blind find no place of rest.

ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਵਸਿਆ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥੪॥

हरि सुखदाता मनि नही वसिआ अंति गइआ पछुताई ॥४॥

Hari sukhadaataa mani nahee vasiaa antti gaiaa pachhutaaee ||4||

If the Lord, the Giver of Peace, does not dwell within the mind, then they shall depart with regret in the end. ||4||


ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

पेईअड़ै जगजीवनु दाता गुरमति मंनि वसाइआ ॥

Peeea(rr)ai jagajeevanu daataa guramati manni vasaaiaa ||

In this world of my father's house, through the Guru's Teachings, I have cultivated within my mind the Great Giver, the Life of the World.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

अनदिनु भगति करहि दिनु राती हउमै मोहु चुकाइआ ॥

Anadinu bhagati karahi dinu raatee haumai mohu chukaaiaa ||

Night and day, performing devotional worship, day and night, ego and emotional attachment are removed.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥

जिसु सिउ राता तैसो होवै सचे सचि समाइआ ॥५॥

Jisu siu raataa taiso hovai sache sachi samaaiaa ||5||

And then, attuned to Him, we become like Him, truly absorbed in the True One. ||5||


ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਭਾਉ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

आपे नदरि करे भाउ लाए गुर सबदी बीचारि ॥

Aape nadari kare bhaau laae gur sabadee beechaari ||

Bestowing His Glance of Grace, He gives us His Love, and we contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥

सतिगुरु सेविऐ सहजु ऊपजै हउमै त्रिसना मारि ॥

Satiguru seviai sahaju upajai haumai trisanaa maari ||

Serving the True Guru, intuitive peace wells up, and ego and desire die.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੬॥

हरि गुणदाता सद मनि वसै सचु रखिआ उर धारि ॥६॥

Hari gu(nn)adaataa sad mani vasai sachu rakhiaa ur dhaari ||6||

The Lord, the Giver of Virtue, dwells forever within the minds of those who keep Truth enshrined within their hearts. ||6||


ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

प्रभु मेरा सदा निरमला मनि निरमलि पाइआ जाइ ॥

Prbhu meraa sadaa niramalaa mani niramali paaiaa jaai ||

My God is forever Immaculate and Pure; with a pure mind, He can be found.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

नामु निधानु हरि मनि वसै हउमै दुखु सभु जाइ ॥

Naamu nidhaanu hari mani vasai haumai dukhu sabhu jaai ||

If the Treasure of the Name of the Lord abides within the mind, egotism and pain are totally eliminated.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੭॥

सतिगुरि सबदु सुणाइआ हउ सद बलिहारै जाउ ॥७॥

Satiguri sabadu su(nn)aaiaa hau sad balihaarai jaau ||7||

The True Guru has instructed me in the Word of the Shabad. I am forever a sacrifice to Him. ||7||


ਆਪਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

आपणै मनि चिति कहै कहाए बिनु गुर आपु न जाई ॥

Aapa(nn)ai mani chiti kahai kahaae binu gur aapu na jaaee ||

Within your own conscious mind, you may say anything, but without the Guru, selfishness and conceit are not eradicated.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥

हरि जीउ भगति वछलु सुखदाता करि किरपा मंनि वसाई ॥

Hari jeeu bhagati vachhalu sukhadaataa kari kirapaa manni vasaaee ||

The Dear Lord is the Lover of His devotees, the Giver of Peace. By His Grace, He abides within the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੮॥

नानक सोभा सुरति देइ प्रभु आपे गुरमुखि दे वडिआई ॥८॥१॥१८॥

Naanak sobhaa surati dei prbhu aape guramukhi de vadiaaee ||8||1||18||

O Nanak, God blesses us with the sublime awakening of consciousness; He Himself grants glorious greatness to the Gurmukh. ||8||1||18||


ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਜਮਡੰਡੁ ਲਗੈ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥

हउमै करम कमावदे जमडंडु लगै तिन आइ ॥

Haumai karam kamaavade jamadanddu lagai tin aai ||

Those who go around acting in egotism are struck down by the Messenger of Death with his club.

ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

जि सतिगुरु सेवनि से उबरे हरि सेती लिव लाइ ॥१॥

Ji satiguru sevani se ubare hari setee liv laai ||1||

Those who serve the True Guru are uplifted and saved, in love with the Lord. ||1||


ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

मन रे गुरमुखि नामु धिआइ ॥

Man re guramukhi naamu dhiaai ||

O mind, become Gurmukh, and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

धुरि पूरबि करतै लिखिआ तिना गुरमति नामि समाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Dhuri poorabi karatai likhiaa tinaa guramati naami samaai ||1|| rahaau ||

Those who are so pre-destined by the Creator are absorbed into the Naam, through the Guru's Teachings. ||1|| Pause ||


ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੋ ਭਾਉ ॥

विणु सतिगुर परतीति न आवई नामि न लागो भाउ ॥

Vi(nn)u satigur parateeti na aavaee naami na laago bhaau ||

Without the True Guru, faith does not come, and love for the Naam is not embraced.

ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਈ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਸਵੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

सुपनै सुखु न पावई दुख महि सवै समाइ ॥२॥

Supanai sukhu na paavaee dukh mahi savai samaai ||2||

Even in dreams, they find no peace; they sleep immersed in pain. ||2||


ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਚੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਲੋਚੀਐ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

जे हरि हरि कीचै बहुतु लोचीऐ किरतु न मेटिआ जाइ ॥

Je hari hari keechai bahutu locheeai kiratu na metiaa jaai ||

Even if you chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, with great longing, your past actions are still not erased.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਪਏ ਦਰਿ ਥਾਇ ॥੩॥

हरि का भाणा भगती मंनिआ से भगत पए दरि थाइ ॥३॥

Hari kaa bhaa(nn)aa bhagatee manniaa se bhagat pae dari thaai ||3||

The Lord's devotees surrender to His Will; those devotees are accepted at His Door. ||3||


ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਿੜਾਵੈ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

गुरु सबदु दिड़ावै रंग सिउ बिनु किरपा लइआ न जाइ ॥

Guru sabadu di(rr)aavai rangg siu binu kirapaa laiaa na jaai ||

The Guru has lovingly implanted the Word of His Shabad within me. Without His Grace, it cannot be attained.

ਜੇ ਸਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨੀਰੀਐ ਭੀ ਬਿਖੁ ਫਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਧਾਇ ॥੪॥

जे सउ अम्रितु नीरीऐ भी बिखु फलु लागै धाइ ॥४॥

Je sau ammmritu neereeai bhee bikhu phalu laagai dhaai ||4||

Even if the poisonous plant is watered with ambrosial nectar a hundred times, it will still bear poisonous fruit. ||4||


ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

से जन सचे निरमले जिन सतिगुर नालि पिआरु ॥

Se jan sache niramale jin satigur naali piaaru ||

Those humble beings who are in love with the True Guru are pure and true.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥੫॥

सतिगुर का भाणा कमावदे बिखु हउमै तजि विकारु ॥५॥

Satigur kaa bhaa(nn)aa kamaavade bikhu haumai taji vikaaru ||5||

They act in harmony with the Will of the True Guru; they shed the poison of ego and corruption. ||5||


ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਉਪਾਇ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੋਧਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

मनहठि कितै उपाइ न छूटीऐ सिम्रिति सासत्र सोधहु जाइ ॥

Manahathi kitai upaai na chhooteeai simriti saasatr sodhahu jaai ||

Acting in stubborn-mindedness, no one is saved; go and study the Simritees and the Shaastras.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਉਬਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੬॥

मिलि संगति साधू उबरे गुर का सबदु कमाइ ॥६॥

Mili sanggati saadhoo ubare gur kaa sabadu kamaai ||6||

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and practicing the Shabads of the Guru, you shall be saved. ||6||


ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥

हरि का नामु निधानु है जिसु अंतु न पारावारु ॥

Hari kaa naamu nidhaanu hai jisu anttu na paaraavaaru ||

The Name of the Lord is the Treasure, which has no end or limitation.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਈ ਸੋਹਦੇ ਜਿਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੭॥

गुरमुखि सेई सोहदे जिन किरपा करे करतारु ॥७॥

Guramukhi seee sohade jin kirapaa kare karataaru ||7||

The Gurmukhs are beauteous; the Creator has blessed them with His Mercy. ||7||


ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਉਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

नानक दाता एकु है दूजा अउरु न कोइ ॥

Naanak daataa eku hai doojaa auru na koi ||

O Nanak, the One Lord alone is the Giver; there is no other at all.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥੧੯॥

गुर परसादी पाईऐ करमि परापति होइ ॥८॥२॥१९॥

Gur parasaadee paaeeai karami paraapati hoi ||8||2||19||

By Guru's Grace, He is obtained. By His Mercy, He is found. ||8||2||19||

Siree Raag, Third Mehl:

ਪੰਖੀ ਬਿਰਖਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੜਾ ਸਚੁ ਚੁਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥

पंखी बिरखि सुहावड़ा सचु चुगै गुर भाइ ॥

Pankkhee birakhi suhaava(rr)aa sachu chugai gur bhaai ||

The soul-bird in the beautiful tree of the body pecks at Truth, with love for the Guru.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਉਡੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

हरि रसु पीवै सहजि रहै उडै न आवै जाइ ॥

Hari rasu peevai sahaji rahai udai na aavai jaai ||

She drinks in the Sublime Essence of the Lord, and abides in intuitive ease; she does not fly around coming and going.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

निज घरि वासा पाइआ हरि हरि नामि समाइ ॥१॥

Nij ghari vaasaa paaiaa hari hari naami samaai ||1||

She obtains her home within her own heart; she is absorbed into the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||


ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

मन रे गुर की कार कमाइ ॥

Man re gur kee kaar kamaai ||

O mind, work to serve the Guru.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਚਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर कै भाणै जे चलहि ता अनदिनु राचहि हरि नाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur kai bhaa(nn)ai je chalahi taa anadinu raachahi hari naai ||1|| rahaau ||

If you walk in harmony with the Guru's Will, you shall remain immersed in the Lord's Name, night and day. ||1|| Pause ||


ਪੰਖੀ ਬਿਰਖ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੇ ਊਡਹਿ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

पंखी बिरख सुहावड़े ऊडहि चहु दिसि जाहि ॥

Pankkhee birakh suhaava(rr)e udahi chahu disi jaahi ||

The birds in the beautiful trees fly around in all four directions.

ਜੇਤਾ ਊਡਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਘਣੇ ਨਿਤ ਦਾਝਹਿ ਤੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ॥

जेता ऊडहि दुख घणे नित दाझहि तै बिललाहि ॥

Jetaa udahi dukh gha(nn)e nit daajhahi tai bilalaahi ||

The more they fly around, the more they suffer; they burn and cry out in pain.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਨਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

बिनु गुर महलु न जापई ना अम्रित फल पाहि ॥२॥

Binu gur mahalu na jaapaee naa ammmrit phal paahi ||2||

Without the Guru, they do not find the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, and they do not obtain the Ambrosial Fruit. ||2||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹਰੀਆਵਲਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

गुरमुखि ब्रहमु हरीआवला साचै सहजि सुभाइ ॥

Guramukhi brhamu hareeaavalaa saachai sahaji subhaai ||

The Gurmukh is like God's tree, always green, blessed with the Sublime Love of the True One, with intuitive peace and poise.

ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਆ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

साखा तीनि निवारीआ एक सबदि लिव लाइ ॥

Saakhaa teeni nivaareeaa ek sabadi liv laai ||

He cuts off the three branches of the three qualities, and embraces love for the One Word of the Shabad.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਖਵਾਇ ॥੩॥

अम्रित फलु हरि एकु है आपे देइ खवाइ ॥३॥

Ammmrit phalu hari eku hai aape dei khavaai ||3||

The Lord alone is the Ambrosial Fruit; He Himself gives it to us to eat. ||3||


ਮਨਮੁਖ ਊਭੇ ਸੁਕਿ ਗਏ ਨਾ ਫਲੁ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਛਾਉ ॥

मनमुख ऊभे सुकि गए ना फलु तिंना छाउ ॥

Manamukh ubhe suki gae naa phalu tinnaa chhaau ||

The self-willed manmukhs stand there and dry up; they do not bear any fruit, and they do not provide any shade.

ਤਿੰਨਾ ਪਾਸਿ ਨ ਬੈਸੀਐ ਓਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਨ ਗਿਰਾਉ ॥

तिंना पासि न बैसीऐ ओना घरु न गिराउ ॥

Tinnaa paasi na baiseeai onaa gharu na giraau ||

Don't even bother to sit near them-they have no home or village.

ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਤੈ ਨਿਤ ਜਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਓਨਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥

कटीअहि तै नित जालीअहि ओना सबदु न नाउ ॥४॥

Kateeahi tai nit jaaleeahi onaa sabadu na naau ||4||

They are cut down and burnt each day; they have neither the Shabad, nor the Lord's Name. ||4||


ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਫਿਰਾਉ ॥

हुकमे करम कमावणे पइऐ किरति फिराउ ॥

Hukame karam kamaava(nn)e paiai kirati phiraau ||

According to the Lord's Command, people perform their actions; they wander around, driven by the karma of their past actions.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਣਾ ਜਹ ਭੇਜਹਿ ਤਹ ਜਾਉ ॥

हुकमे दरसनु देखणा जह भेजहि तह जाउ ॥

Hukame darasanu dekha(nn)aa jah bhejahi tah jaau ||

By the Lord's Command, they behold the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. Wherever He sends them, there they go.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੫॥

हुकमे हरि हरि मनि वसै हुकमे सचि समाउ ॥५॥

Hukame hari hari mani vasai hukame sachi samaau ||5||

By His Command, the Lord, Har, Har, abides within our minds; by His Command we merge in Truth. ||5||


ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

हुकमु न जाणहि बपुड़े भूले फिरहि गवार ॥

Hukamu na jaa(nn)ahi bapu(rr)e bhoole phirahi gavaar ||

The wretched fools do not know the Lord's Will; they wander around making mistakes.

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥

मनहठि करम कमावदे नित नित होहि खुआरु ॥

Manahathi karam kamaavade nit nit hohi khuaaru ||

They go about their business stubborn-mindedly; they are disgraced forever and ever.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਾ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੬॥

अंतरि सांति न आवई ना सचि लगै पिआरु ॥६॥

Anttari saanti na aavaee naa sachi lagai piaaru ||6||

Inner peace does not come to them; they do not embrace love for the True Lord. ||6||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀਆ ਮੁਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

गुरमुखीआ मुह सोहणे गुर कै हेति पिआरि ॥

Guramukheeaa muh soha(nn)e gur kai heti piaari ||

Beautiful are the faces of the Gurmukhs, who bear love and affection for the Guru.

ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ॥

सची भगती सचि रते दरि सचै सचिआर ॥

Sachee bhagatee sachi rate dari sachai sachiaar ||

Through true devotional worship, they are attuned to Truth; at the True Door, they are found to be true.

ਆਏ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕੁਲ ਕਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੭॥

आए से परवाणु है सभ कुल का करहि उधारु ॥७॥

Aae se paravaa(nn)u hai sabh kul kaa karahi udhaaru ||7||

Blessed is their coming into being; they redeem all their ancestors. ||7||


ਸਭ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

सभ नदरी करम कमावदे नदरी बाहरि न कोइ ॥

Sabh nadaree karam kamaavade nadaree baahari na koi ||

All do their deeds under the Lord's Glance of Grace; no one is beyond His Vision.

ਜੈਸੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਚਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੀ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥

जैसी नदरि करि देखै सचा तैसा ही को होइ ॥

Jaisee nadari kari dekhai sachaa taisaa hee ko hoi ||

According to the Glance of Grace with which the True Lord beholds us, so do we become.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥੩॥੨੦॥

नानक नामि वडाईआ करमि परापति होइ ॥८॥३॥२०॥

Naanak naami vadaaeeaa karami paraapati hoi ||8||3||20||

O Nanak, the Glorious Greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is received only by His Mercy. ||8||3||20||

Guramukhi naamu dhiaaeeai manamukhi boojh na paai ||

The Gurmukhs meditate on the Naam; the self-willed manmukhs do not understand.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

गुरमुखि सदा मुख ऊजले हरि वसिआ मनि आइ ॥

Guramukhi sadaa mukh ujale hari vasiaa mani aai ||

The faces of the Gurmukhs are always radiant; the Lord has come to dwell within their minds.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

सहजे ही सुखु पाईऐ सहजे रहै समाइ ॥१॥

Sahaje hee sukhu paaeeai sahaje rahai samaai ||1||

Through intuitive understanding they are at peace, and through intuitive understanding they remain absorbed in the Lord. ||1||


ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

भाई रे दासनि दासा होइ ॥

Bhaaee re daasani daasaa hoi ||

O Siblings of Destiny, be the slaves of the Lord's slaves.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुर की सेवा गुर भगति है विरला पाए कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Gur kee sevaa gur bhagati hai viralaa paae koi ||1|| rahaau ||

Service to the Guru is worship of the Guru. How rare are those who obtain it! ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ਸੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥

सदा सुहागु सुहागणी जे चलहि सतिगुर भाइ ॥

Sadaa suhaagu suhaaga(nn)ee je chalahi satigur bhaai ||

The happy soul-bride is always with her Husband Lord, if she walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.

ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

सदा पिरु निहचलु पाईऐ ना ओहु मरै न जाइ ॥

Sadaa piru nihachalu paaeeai naa ohu marai na jaai ||

She attains her Eternal, Ever-stable Husband, who never dies or goes away.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਨਾ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

सबदि मिली ना वीछुड़ै पिर कै अंकि समाइ ॥२॥

Sabadi milee naa veechhu(rr)ai pir kai ankki samaai ||2||

United with the Word of the Shabad, she shall not be separated again. She is immersed in the Lap of her Beloved. ||2||


ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਜਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

हरि निरमलु अति ऊजला बिनु गुर पाइआ न जाइ ॥

Hari niramalu ati ujalaa binu gur paaiaa na jaai ||

The Lord is Immaculate and Radiantly Bright; without the Guru, He cannot be found.

ਪਾਠੁ ਪੜੈ ਨਾ ਬੂਝਈ ਭੇਖੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥

पाठु पड़ै ना बूझई भेखी भरमि भुलाइ ॥

Paathu pa(rr)ai naa boojhaee bhekhee bharami bhulaai ||

He cannot be understood by reading scriptures; the deceitful pretenders are deluded by doubt.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

गुरमती हरि सदा पाइआ रसना हरि रसु समाइ ॥३॥

Guramatee hari sadaa paaiaa rasanaa hari rasu samaai ||3||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Lord is always found, and the tongue is permeated with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||3||


ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

माइआ मोहु चुकाइआ गुरमती सहजि सुभाइ ॥

Maaiaa mohu chukaaiaa guramatee sahaji subhaai ||

Emotional attachment to Maya is shed with intuitive ease, through the Guru's Teachings.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਗਈ ਖਾਇ ॥

बिनु सबदै जगु दुखीआ फिरै मनमुखा नो गई खाइ ॥

Binu sabadai jagu dukheeaa phirai manamukhaa no gaee khaai ||

Without the Shabad, the world wanders lost in pain. The self-willed manmukh is consumed.

ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥

सबदे नामु धिआईऐ सबदे सचि समाइ ॥४॥

Sabade naamu dhiaaeeai sabade sachi samaai ||4||

Through the Shabad, meditate on the Naam; through the Shabad, you shall merge in Truth. ||4||


ਮਾਇਆ ਭੂਲੇ ਸਿਧ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

माइआ भूले सिध फिरहि समाधि न लगै सुभाइ ॥

Maaiaa bhoole sidh phirahi samaadhi na lagai subhaai ||

The Siddhas wander around, deluded by Maya; they are not absorbed in the Samaadhi of the Lord's Sublime Love.

ਤੀਨੇ ਲੋਅ ਵਿਆਪਤ ਹੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥

तीने लोअ विआपत है अधिक रही लपटाइ ॥

Teene loa viaapat hai adhik rahee lapataai ||

The three worlds are permeated by Maya; they are totally covered by it.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥

बिनु गुर मुकति न पाईऐ ना दुबिधा माइआ जाइ ॥५॥

Binu gur mukati na paaeeai naa dubidhaa maaiaa jaai ||5||

Without the Guru, liberation is not attained, and the double-mindedness of Maya does not go away. ||5||


ਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

माइआ किस नो आखीऐ किआ माइआ करम कमाइ ॥

Maaiaa kis no aakheeai kiaa maaiaa karam kamaai ||

What is called Maya? What does Maya do?

ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਏਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਬਧੁ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

दुखि सुखि एहु जीउ बधु है हउमै करम कमाइ ॥

Dukhi sukhi ehu jeeu badhu hai haumai karam kamaai ||

These beings are bound by pleasure and pain; they do their deeds in egotism.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਨਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥

बिनु सबदै भरमु न चूकई ना विचहु हउमै जाइ ॥६॥

Binu sabadai bharamu na chookaee naa vichahu haumai jaai ||6||

Without the Shabad, doubt is not dispelled, and egotism is not eliminated from within. ||6||


ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥

बिनु प्रीती भगति न होवई बिनु सबदै थाइ न पाइ ॥

Binu preetee bhagati na hovaee binu sabadai thaai na paai ||

Without love, there is no devotional worship. Without the Shabad, no one finds acceptance.

ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

सबदे हउमै मारीऐ माइआ का भ्रमु जाइ ॥

Sabade haumai maareeai maaiaa kaa bhrmu jaai ||

Through the Shabad, egotism is conquered and subdued, and the illusion of Maya is dispelled.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੭॥

नामु पदारथु पाईऐ गुरमुखि सहजि सुभाइ ॥७॥

Naamu padaarathu paaeeai guramukhi sahaji subhaai ||7||

The Gurmukh obtains the Treasure of the Naam with intuitive ease. ||7||


ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਣ ਨ ਜਾਪਨੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

बिनु गुर गुण न जापनी बिनु गुण भगति न होइ ॥

Binu gur gu(nn) na jaapanee binu gu(nn) bhagati na hoi ||

Without the Guru, one's virtues do not shine forth; without virtue, there is no devotional worship.

ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

भगति वछलु हरि मनि वसिआ सहजि मिलिआ प्रभु सोइ ॥

Bhagati vachhalu hari mani vasiaa sahaji miliaa prbhu soi ||

The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He abides within their minds. They meet that God with intuitive ease.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥੪॥੨੧॥

नानक सबदे हरि सालाहीऐ करमि परापति होइ ॥८॥४॥२१॥

Naanak sabade hari saalaaheeai karami paraapati hoi ||8||4||21||

Siree Raag, Third Mehl:

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥

माइआ मोहु मेरै प्रभि कीना आपे भरमि भुलाए ॥

Maaiaa mohu merai prbhi keenaa aape bharami bhulaae ||

Emotional attachment to Maya is created by my God; He Himself misleads us through illusion and doubt.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

मनमुखि करम करहि नही बूझहि बिरथा जनमु गवाए ॥

Manamukhi karam karahi nahee boojhahi birathaa janamu gavaae ||

The self-willed manmukhs perform their actions, but they do not understand; they waste away their lives in vain.

ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥੧॥

गुरबाणी इसु जग महि चानणु करमि वसै मनि आए ॥१॥

Gurabaa(nn)ee isu jag mahi chaana(nn)u karami vasai mani aae ||1||

Gurbani is the Light to illuminate this world; by His Grace, it comes to abide within the mind. ||1||


ਮਨ ਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

मन रे नामु जपहु सुखु होइ ॥

Man re naamu japahu sukhu hoi ||

O mind, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and find peace.

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गुरु पूरा सालाहीऐ सहजि मिलै प्रभु सोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Guru pooraa saalaaheeai sahaji milai prbhu soi ||1|| rahaau ||

Praising the Perfect Guru, you shall easily meet with that God. ||1|| Pause ||


ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥

भरमु गइआ भउ भागिआ हरि चरणी चितु लाइ ॥

Bharamu gaiaa bhau bhaagiaa hari chara(nn)ee chitu laai ||

Doubt departs, and fear runs away, when you focus your consciousness on the Lord's Feet.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

गुरमुखि सबदु कमाईऐ हरि वसै मनि आइ ॥

Guramukhi sabadu kamaaeeai hari vasai mani aai ||

The Gurmukh practices the Shabad, and the Lord comes to dwell within the mind.

ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥

घरि महलि सचि समाईऐ जमकालु न सकै खाइ ॥२॥

Ghari mahali sachi samaaeeai jamakaalu na sakai khaai ||2||

In the mansion of the home within the self, we merge in Truth, and the Messenger of Death cannot devour us. ||2||


ਨਾਮਾ ਛੀਬਾ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਜੋੁਲਾਹਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

नामा छीबा कबीरु जोलाहा पूरे गुर ते गति पाई ॥

Naamaa chheebaa kabeeru jaolaahaa poore gur te gati paaee ||

Naam Dayv the printer, and Kabeer the weaver, obtained salvation through the Perfect Guru.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਬੇਤੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥

ब्रहम के बेते सबदु पछाणहि हउमै जाति गवाई ॥

Brham ke bete sabadu pachhaa(nn)ahi haumai jaati gavaaee ||

Those who know God and recognize His Shabad lose their ego and class consciousness.

ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਭਾਈ ॥੩॥

सुरि नर तिन की बाणी गावहि कोइ न मेटै भाई ॥३॥

Suri nar tin kee baa(nn)ee gaavahi koi na metai bhaaee ||3||

Their Banis are sung by the angelic beings, and no one can erase them, O Siblings of Destiny! ||3||


ਦੈਤ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੰਜਮ ਨ ਪੜੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

दैत पुतु करम धरम किछु संजम न पड़ै दूजा भाउ न जाणै ॥

Dait putu karam dharam kichhu sanjjam na pa(rr)ai doojaa bhaau na jaa(nn)ai ||

The demon's son Prahlaad had not read about religious rituals or ceremonies, austerity or self-discipline; he did not know the love of duality.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥

सतिगुरु भेटिऐ निरमलु होआ अनदिनु नामु वखाणै ॥

Satiguru bhetiai niramalu hoaa anadinu naamu vakhaa(nn)ai ||

Upon meeting with the True Guru, he became pure; night and day, he chanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਏਕੋ ਪੜੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਬੂਝੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੪॥

एको पड़ै एको नाउ बूझै दूजा अवरु न जाणै ॥४॥

Eko pa(rr)ai eko naau boojhai doojaa avaru na jaa(nn)ai ||4||

He read only of the One and he understood only the One Name; he knew no other at all. ||4||


ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਜੋਗੀ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥

खटु दरसन जोगी संनिआसी बिनु गुर भरमि भुलाए ॥

Khatu darasan jogee sanniaasee binu gur bharami bhulaae ||

The followers of the six different life-styles and world-views, the Yogis and the Sanyaasees have gone astray in doubt without the Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवहि ता गति मिति पावहि हरि जीउ मंनि वसाए ॥

Satiguru sevahi taa gati miti paavahi hari jeeu manni vasaae ||

If they serve the True Guru, they find the state of salvation; they enshrine the Dear Lord within their minds.

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥੫॥

सची बाणी सिउ चितु लागै आवणु जाणु रहाए ॥५॥

Sachee baa(nn)ee siu chitu laagai aava(nn)u jaa(nn)u rahaae ||5||

They focus their consciousness on the True Bani, and their comings and goings in reincarnation are over. ||5||


ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥

पंडित पड़ि पड़ि वादु वखाणहि बिनु गुर भरमि भुलाए ॥

Panddit pa(rr)i pa(rr)i vaadu vakhaa(nn)ahi binu gur bharami bhulaae ||

The Pandits, the religious scholars, read and argue and stir up controversies, but without the Guru, they are deluded by doubt.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

लख चउरासीह फेरु पइआ बिनु सबदै मुकति न पाए ॥

Lakh chauraaseeh pheru paiaa binu sabadai mukati na paae ||

They wander around the cycle of 8.4 million reincarnations; without the Shabad, they do not attain liberation.

ਜਾ ਨਾਉ ਚੇਤੈ ਤਾ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੬॥

जा नाउ चेतै ता गति पाए जा सतिगुरु मेलि मिलाए ॥६॥

Jaa naau chetai taa gati paae jaa satiguru meli milaae ||6||

But when they remember the Name, then they attain the state of salvation, when the True Guru unites them in Union. ||6||


ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥

सतसंगति महि नामु हरि उपजै जा सतिगुरु मिलै सुभाए ॥

Satasanggati mahi naamu hari upajai jaa satiguru milai subhaae ||

In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the Name of the Lord wells up, when the True Guru unites us in His Sublime Love.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ਚਲਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥

मनु तनु अरपी आपु गवाई चला सतिगुर भाए ॥

Manu tanu arapee aapu gavaaee chalaa satigur bhaae ||

I offer my mind and body, and I renounce my selfishness and conceit; I walk in Harmony with the Will of the True Guru.

ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੭॥

सद बलिहारी गुर अपुने विटहु जि हरि सेती चितु लाए ॥७॥

Sad balihaaree gur apune vitahu ji hari setee chitu laae ||7||

I am forever a sacrifice to my Guru, who has attached my consciousness to the Lord. ||7||


ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜੋ ਬਿੰਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

सो ब्राहमणु ब्रहमु जो बिंदे हरि सेती रंगि राता ॥

So braahama(nn)u brhamu jo bindde hari setee ranggi raataa ||

He alone is a Brahmin, who knows the Lord Brahma, and is attuned to the Love of the Lord.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭਨਾ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥

प्रभु निकटि वसै सभना घट अंतरि गुरमुखि विरलै जाता ॥

Prbhu nikati vasai sabhanaa ghat anttari guramukhi viralai jaataa ||

God is close at hand; He dwells deep within the hearts of all. How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, know Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੫॥੨੨॥

नानक नामु मिलै वडिआई गुर कै सबदि पछाता ॥८॥५॥२२॥

Naanak naamu milai vadiaaee gur kai sabadi pachhaataa ||8||5||22||

O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is realized. ||8||5||22||

ਸਹਜੈ ਨੋ ਸਭ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

सहजै नो सभ लोचदी बिनु गुर पाइआ न जाइ ॥

Sahajai no sabh lochadee binu gur paaiaa na jaai ||

Everyone longs to be centered and balanced, but without the Guru, no one can.

ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜੋਤਕੀ ਥਕੇ ਭੇਖੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥

पड़ि पड़ि पंडित जोतकी थके भेखी भरमि भुलाइ ॥

Pa(rr)i pa(rr)i panddit jotakee thake bhekhee bharami bhulaai ||

The Pandits and the astrologers read and read until they grow weary, while the fanatics are deluded by doubt.

ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

गुर भेटे सहजु पाइआ आपणी किरपा करे रजाइ ॥१॥

Gur bhete sahaju paaiaa aapa(nn)ee kirapaa kare rajaai ||1||

Meeting with the Guru, intuitive balance is obtained, when God, in His Will, grants His Grace. ||1||


ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

भाई रे गुर बिनु सहजु न होइ ॥

Bhaaee re gur binu sahaju na hoi ||

O Siblings of Destiny, without the Guru, intuitive balance is not obtained.

ਸਬਦੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सबदै ही ते सहजु ऊपजै हरि पाइआ सचु सोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Sabadai hee te sahaju upajai hari paaiaa sachu soi ||1|| rahaau ||

Through the Word of the Shabad, intuitive peace and poise wells up, and that True Lord is obtained. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਹਜੇ ਗਾਵਿਆ ਥਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੈ ਕਥਨੀ ਬਾਦਿ ॥

सहजे गाविआ थाइ पवै बिनु सहजै कथनी बादि ॥

Sahaje gaaviaa thaai pavai binu sahajai kathanee baadi ||

That which is sung intuitively is acceptable; without this intuition, all chanting is useless.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ॥

सहजे ही भगति ऊपजै सहजि पिआरि बैरागि ॥

Sahaje hee bhagati upajai sahaji piaari bairaagi ||

In the state of intuitive balance, devotion wells up. In intuitive balance, love is balanced and detached.

ਸਹਜੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੈ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥੨॥

सहजै ही ते सुख साति होइ बिनु सहजै जीवणु बादि ॥२॥

Sahajai hee te sukh saati hoi binu sahajai jeeva(nn)u baadi ||2||

In the state of intuitive balance, peace and tranquility are produced. Without intuitive balance, life is useless. ||2||


ਸਹਜਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਇ ॥

सहजि सालाही सदा सदा सहजि समाधि लगाइ ॥

Sahaji saalaahee sadaa sadaa sahaji samaadhi lagaai ||

In the state of intuitive balance, praise the Lord forever and ever. With intuitive ease, embrace Samaadhi.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਊਚਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

सहजे ही गुण ऊचरै भगति करे लिव लाइ ॥

Sahaje hee gu(nn) ucharai bhagati kare liv laai ||

In the state of intuitive balance, chant His Glories, lovingly absorbed in devotional worship.

ਸਬਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥

सबदे ही हरि मनि वसै रसना हरि रसु खाइ ॥३॥

Sabade hee hari mani vasai rasanaa hari rasu khaai ||3||

Through the Shabad, the Lord dwells within the mind, and the tongue tastes the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||3||


ਸਹਜੇ ਕਾਲੁ ਵਿਡਾਰਿਆ ਸਚ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥

सहजे कालु विडारिआ सच सरणाई पाइ ॥

Sahaje kaalu vidaariaa sach sara(nn)aaee paai ||

In the poise of intuitive balance, death is destroyed, entering the Sanctuary of the True One.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

सहजे हरि नामु मनि वसिआ सची कार कमाइ ॥

Sahaje hari naamu mani vasiaa sachee kaar kamaai ||

Intuitively balanced, the Name of the Lord dwells within the mind, practicing the lifestyle of Truth.

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥

से वडभागी जिनी पाइआ सहजे रहे समाइ ॥४॥

Se vadabhaagee jinee paaiaa sahaje rahe samaai ||4||

Those who have found Him are very fortunate; they remain intuitively absorbed in Him. ||4||


ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥

माइआ विचि सहजु न ऊपजै माइआ दूजै भाइ ॥

Maaiaa vichi sahaju na upajai maaiaa doojai bhaai ||

Within Maya, the poise of intuitive balance is not produced. Maya leads to the love of duality.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਲੈ ਜਲਾਇ ॥

मनमुख करम कमावणे हउमै जलै जलाइ ॥

Manamukh karam kamaava(nn)e haumai jalai jalaai ||

The self-willed manmukhs perform religious rituals, but they are burnt down by their selfishness and conceit.

ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥

जमणु मरणु न चूकई फिरि फिरि आवै जाइ ॥५॥

Jamma(nn)u mara(nn)u na chookaee phiri phiri aavai jaai ||5||

Their births and deaths do not cease; over and over again, they come and go in reincarnation. ||5||


ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥

त्रिहु गुणा विचि सहजु न पाईऐ त्रै गुण भरमि भुलाइ ॥

Trihu gu(nn)aa vichi sahaju na paaeeai trai gu(nn) bharami bhulaai ||

In the three qualities, intuitive balance is not obtained; the three qualities lead to delusion and doubt.

ਪੜੀਐ ਗੁਣੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਕਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਮੁੰਢਹੁ ਘੁਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

पड़ीऐ गुणीऐ किआ कथीऐ जा मुंढहु घुथा जाइ ॥

Pa(rr)eeai gu(nn)eeai kiaa katheeai jaa munddhahu ghuthaa jaai ||

What is the point of reading, studying and debating, if one loses his roots?

ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੬॥

चउथे पद महि सहजु है गुरमुखि पलै पाइ ॥६॥

Chauthe pad mahi sahaju hai guramukhi palai paai ||6||

In the fourth state, there is intuitive balance; the Gurmukhs gather it in. ||6||


ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

निरगुण नामु निधानु है सहजे सोझी होइ ॥

Niragu(nn) naamu nidhaanu hai sahaje sojhee hoi ||

The Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord, is the treasure. Through intuitive balance, understanding is obtained.

ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥

गुणवंती सालाहिआ सचे सची सोइ ॥

Gu(nn)avanttee saalaahiaa sache sachee soi ||

The virtuous praise the True One; their reputation is true.

ਭੁਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਸੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭॥

भुलिआ सहजि मिलाइसी सबदि मिलावा होइ ॥७॥

Bhuliaa sahaji milaaisee sabadi milaavaa hoi ||7||

The wayward are united with God through intuitive balance; through the Shabad, union is obtained. ||7||


ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੈ ਸਭੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥

बिनु सहजै सभु अंधु है माइआ मोहु गुबारु ॥

Binu sahajai sabhu anddhu hai maaiaa mohu gubaaru ||

Without intuitive balance, all are blind. Emotional attachment to Maya is utter darkness.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥

सहजे ही सोझी पई सचै सबदि अपारि ॥

Sahaje hee sojhee paee sachai sabadi apaari ||

In intuitive balance, understanding of the True, Infinite Shabad is obtained.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੮॥

आपे बखसि मिलाइअनु पूरे गुर करतारि ॥८॥

Aape bakhasi milaaianu poore gur karataari ||8||

Granting forgiveness, the Perfect Guru unites us with the Creator. ||8||


ਸਹਜੇ ਅਦਿਸਟੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

सहजे अदिसटु पछाणीऐ निरभउ जोति निरंकारु ॥

Sahaje adisatu pachhaa(nn)eeai nirabhau joti nirankkaaru ||

In intuitive balance, the Unseen is recognized-the Fearless, Luminous, Formless Lord.

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

सभना जीआ का इकु दाता जोती जोति मिलावणहारु ॥

Sabhanaa jeeaa kaa iku daataa jotee joti milaava(nn)ahaaru ||

There is only the One Giver of all beings. He blends our light with His Light.

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੯॥

पूरै सबदि सलाहीऐ जिस दा अंतु न पारावारु ॥९॥

Poorai sabadi salaaheeai jis daa anttu na paaraavaaru ||9||

So praise God through the Perfect Word of His Shabad; He has no end or limitation. ||9||


ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥

गिआनीआ का धनु नामु है सहजि करहि वापारु ॥

Giaaneeaa kaa dhanu naamu hai sahaji karahi vaapaaru ||

Those who are wise take the Naam as their wealth; with intuitive ease, they trade with Him.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਨਿ ਅਖੁਟ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥

अनदिनु लाहा हरि नामु लैनि अखुट भरे भंडार ॥

Anadinu laahaa hari naamu laini akhut bhare bhanddaar ||

Night and day, they receive the Profit of the Lord's Name, which is an inexhaustible and over-flowing treasure.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਦੀਏ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਿ ॥੧੦॥੬॥੨੩॥

नानक तोटि न आवई दीए देवणहारि ॥१०॥६॥२३॥

Naanak toti na aavaee deee deva(nn)ahaari ||10||6||23||

O Nanak, when the Great Giver gives, nothing at all is lacking. ||10||6||23||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

सतिगुरि मिलिऐ फेरु न पवै जनम मरण दुखु जाइ ॥

Satiguri miliai pheru na pavai janam mara(nn) dukhu jaai ||

Meeting with the True Guru, you shall not have to go through the cycle of reincarnation again; the pains of birth and death will be taken away.

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

पूरै सबदि सभ सोझी होई हरि नामै रहै समाइ ॥१॥

Poorai sabadi sabh sojhee hoee hari naamai rahai samaai ||1||

Through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, all understanding is obtained; remain absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||1||


ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥

मन मेरे सतिगुर सिउ चितु लाइ ॥

Man mere satigur siu chitu laai ||

O my mind, focus your consciousness on the True Guru.

ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਨਵਤਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

निरमलु नामु सद नवतनो आपि वसै मनि आइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Niramalu naamu sad navatano aapi vasai mani aai ||1|| rahaau ||

The Immaculate Naam itself, ever-fresh, comes to abide within the mind. ||1|| Pause ||


ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਣਾ ॥

हरि जीउ राखहु अपुनी सरणाई जिउ राखहि तिउ रहणा ॥

Hari jeeu raakhahu apunee sara(nn)aaee jiu raakhahi tiu raha(nn)aa ||

O Dear Lord, please protect and preserve me in Your Sanctuary. As You keep me, so do I remain.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੨॥

गुर कै सबदि जीवतु मरै गुरमुखि भवजलु तरणा ॥२॥

Gur kai sabadi jeevatu marai guramukhi bhavajalu tara(nn)aa ||2||

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Gurmukh remains dead while yet alive, and swims across the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||


ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥

वडै भागि नाउ पाईऐ गुरमति सबदि सुहाई ॥

Vadai bhaagi naau paaeeai guramati sabadi suhaaee ||

By great good fortune, the Name is obtained. Following the Guru's Teachings, through the Shabad, you shall be exalted.

ਆਪੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੩॥

आपे मनि वसिआ प्रभु करता सहजे रहिआ समाई ॥३॥

Aape mani vasiaa prbhu karataa sahaje rahiaa samaaee ||3||

God, the Creator Himself, dwells within the mind; remain absorbed in the state of intuitive balance. ||3||


ਇਕਨਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਭਵਾਇਆ ॥

इकना मनमुखि सबदु न भावै बंधनि बंधि भवाइआ ॥

Ikanaa manamukhi sabadu na bhaavai banddhani banddhi bhavaaiaa ||

Some are self-willed manmukhs; they do not love the Word of the Shabad. Bound in chains, they wander lost in reincarnation.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥

लख चउरासीह फिरि फिरि आवै बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ ॥४॥

Lakh chauraaseeh phiri phiri aavai birathaa janamu gavaaiaa ||4||

Through 8.4 million lifetimes, they wander over and over again; they waste away their lives in vain. ||4||


ਭਗਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥

भगता मनि आनंदु है सचै सबदि रंगि राते ॥

Bhagataa mani aananddu hai sachai sabadi ranggi raate ||

In the minds of the devotees there is bliss; they are attuned to the Love of the True Word of the Shabad.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਤੇ ॥੫॥

अनदिनु गुण गावहि सद निरमल सहजे नामि समाते ॥५॥

Anadinu gu(nn) gaavahi sad niramal sahaje naami samaate ||5||

Night and day, they constantly sing the Glories of the Immaculate Lord; with intuitive ease, they are absorbed into the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||5||


ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਭ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੀ ॥

गुरमुखि अम्रित बाणी बोलहि सभ आतम रामु पछाणी ॥

Guramukhi ammmrit baa(nn)ee bolahi sabh aatam raamu pachhaa(nn)ee ||

The Gurmukhs speak the Ambrosial Bani; they recognize the Lord, the Supreme Soul in all.

ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਏਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥੬॥

एको सेवनि एकु अराधहि गुरमुखि अकथ कहाणी ॥६॥

Eko sevani eku araadhahi guramukhi akath kahaa(nn)ee ||6||

They serve the One; they worship and adore the One. The Gurmukhs speak the Unspoken Speech. ||6||


ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

सचा साहिबु सेवीऐ गुरमुखि वसै मनि आइ ॥

Sachaa saahibu seveeai guramukhi vasai mani aai ||

The Gurmukhs serve their True Lord and Master, who comes to dwell in the mind.

ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚ ਸਿਉ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੭॥

सदा रंगि राते सच सिउ अपुनी किरपा करे मिलाइ ॥७॥

Sadaa ranggi raate sach siu apunee kirapaa kare milaai ||7||

They are forever attuned to the Love of the True One, who bestows His Mercy and unites them with Himself. ||7||


ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਇਕਨਾ ਸੁਤਿਆ ਦੇਇ ਜਗਾਇ ॥

आपे करे कराए आपे इकना सुतिआ देइ जगाइ ॥

Aape kare karaae aape ikanaa sutiaa dei jagaai ||

He Himself does, and He Himself causes others to do; He wakes some from their sleep.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੭॥੨੪॥

आपे मेलि मिलाइदा नानक सबदि समाइ ॥८॥७॥२४॥

Aape meli milaaidaa naanak sabadi samaai ||8||7||24||

He Himself unites us in Union; Nanak is absorbed in the Shabad. ||8||7||24||

सतिगुरि सेविऐ मनु निरमला भए पवितु सरीर ॥

Satiguri seviai manu niramalaa bhae pavitu sareer ||

Serving the True Guru, the mind becomes immaculate, and the body becomes pure.

ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ॥

मनि आनंदु सदा सुखु पाइआ भेटिआ गहिर ग्मभीरु ॥

Mani aananddu sadaa sukhu paaiaa bhetiaa gahir gambbheeru ||

The mind obtains bliss and eternal peace, meeting with the Deep and Profound Lord.

ਸਚੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬੈਸਣਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰ ॥੧॥

सची संगति बैसणा सचि नामि मनु धीर ॥१॥

Sachee sanggati baisa(nn)aa sachi naami manu dheer ||1||

Sitting in the Sangat, the True Congregation, the mind is comforted and consoled by the True Name. ||1||


ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ॥

मन रे सतिगुरु सेवि निसंगु ॥

Man re satiguru sevi nisanggu ||

O mind, serve the True Guru without hesitation.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਤੰਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

सतिगुरु सेविऐ हरि मनि वसै लगै न मैलु पतंगु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

Satiguru seviai hari mani vasai lagai na mailu patanggu ||1|| rahaau ||

Serving the True Guru, the Lord abides within the mind, and no trace of filth shall attach itself to you. ||1|| Pause ||


ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥

सचै सबदि पति ऊपजै सचे सचा नाउ ॥

Sachai sabadi pati upajai sache sachaa naau ||

From the True Word of the Shabad comes honor. True is the Name of the True One.

ਜਿਨੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥

जिनी हउमै मारि पछाणिआ हउ तिन बलिहारै जाउ ॥

Jinee haumai maari pachhaa(nn)iaa hau tin balihaarai jaau ||

I am a sacrifice to those who conquer their ego and recognize the Lord.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਤਿਨ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥

मनमुख सचु न जाणनी तिन ठउर न कतहू थाउ ॥२॥

Manamukh sachu na jaa(nn)anee tin thaur na katahoo thaau ||2||

The self-willed manmukhs do not know the True One; they find no shelter, and no place of rest anywhere. ||2||


ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥

सचु खाणा सचु पैनणा सचे ही विचि वासु ॥

Sachu khaa(nn)aa sachu paina(nn)aa sache hee vichi vaasu ||

Those who take the Truth as their food and the Truth as their clothing, have their home in the True One.

ਸਦਾ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥

सदा सचा सालाहणा सचै सबदि निवासु ॥

Sadaa sachaa saalaaha(nn)aa sachai sabadi nivaasu ||

They constantly praise the True One, and in the True Word of the Shabad they have their dwelling.

ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥

सभु आतम रामु पछाणिआ गुरमती निज घरि वासु ॥३॥

Sabhu aatam raamu pachhaa(nn)iaa guramatee nij ghari vaasu ||3||

They recognize the Lord, the Supreme Soul in all, and through the Guru's Teachings they dwell in the home of their own inner self. ||3||


ਸਚੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

सचु वेखणु सचु बोलणा तनु मनु सचा होइ ॥

Sachu vekha(nn)u sachu bola(nn)aa tanu manu sachaa hoi ||

They see the Truth, and they speak the Truth; their bodies and minds are True.

ਸਚੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥

सची साखी उपदेसु सचु सचे सची सोइ ॥

Sachee saakhee upadesu sachu sache sachee soi ||

True are their teachings, and True are their instructions; True are the reputations of the true ones.

ਜਿੰਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੇ ਦੁਖੀਏ ਚਲੇ ਰੋਇ ॥੪॥

जिंनी सचु विसारिआ से दुखीए चले रोइ ॥४॥

Jinnee sachu visaariaa se dukheee chale roi ||4||

Those who have forgotten the True One are miserable-they depart weeping and wailing. ||4||


ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸੇ ਕਿਤੁ ਆਏ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥

सतिगुरु जिनी न सेविओ से कितु आए संसारि ॥

Satiguru jinee na sevio se kitu aae sanssaari ||

Those who have not served the True Guru-why did they even bother to come into the world?

ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਕੂਕ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥

जम दरि बधे मारीअहि कूक न सुणै पूकार ॥

Jam dari badhe maareeahi kook na su(nn)ai pookaar ||

They are bound and gagged and beaten at Death's door, but no one hears their shrieks and cries.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੫॥

बिरथा जनमु गवाइआ मरि जमहि वारो वार ॥५॥

Birathaa janamu gavaaiaa mari jammahi vaaro vaar ||5||

They waste their lives uselessly; they die and are reincarnated over and over again. ||5||


ਏਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਲਤਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾ ॥

एहु जगु जलता देखि कै भजि पए सतिगुर सरणा ॥

Ehu jagu jalataa dekhi kai bhaji pae satigur sara(nn)aa ||

Seeing this world on fire, I rushed to the Sanctuary of the True Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਰਹਣਾ ॥

सतिगुरि सचु दिड़ाइआ सदा सचि संजमि रहणा ॥

Satiguri sachu di(rr)aaiaa sadaa sachi sanjjami raha(nn)aa ||

The True Guru has implanted the Truth within me; I dwell steadfastly in Truth and self-restraint.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੬॥

सतिगुर सचा है बोहिथा सबदे भवजलु तरणा ॥६॥

Satigur sachaa hai bohithaa sabade bhavajalu tara(nn)aa ||6||

The True Guru is the Boat of Truth; in the Word of the Shabad, we cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||6||


ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

लख चउरासीह फिरदे रहे बिनु सतिगुर मुकति न होई ॥

Lakh chauraaseeh phirade rahe binu satigur mukati na hoee ||

People continue wandering through the cycle of 8.4 million incarnations; without the True Guru, liberation is not obtained.

ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਨੀ ਥਕੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥

पड़ि पड़ि पंडित मोनी थके दूजै भाइ पति खोई ॥

Pa(rr)i pa(rr)i panddit monee thake doojai bhaai pati khoee ||

Reading and studying, the Pandits and the silent sages have grown weary, but attached to the love of duality, they have lost their honor.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਚੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੭॥

सतिगुरि सबदु सुणाइआ बिनु सचे अवरु न कोई ॥७॥

Satiguri sabadu su(nn)aaiaa binu sache avaru na koee ||7||

The True Guru teaches the Word of the Shabad; without the True One, there is no other at all. ||7||


ਜੋ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਏ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਨਿਤ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥

जो सचै लाए से सचि लगे नित सची कार करंनि ॥

Jo sachai laae se sachi lage nit sachee kaar karanni ||

Those who are linked by the True One are linked to Truth. They always act in Truth.

ਤਿਨਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥

तिना निज घरि वासा पाइआ सचै महलि रहंनि ॥

Tinaa nij ghari vaasaa paaiaa sachai mahali rahanni ||

They attain their dwelling in the home of their own inner being, and they abide in the Mansion of Truth.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਚੰਨਿ ॥੮॥੧੭॥੮॥੨੫॥

नानक भगत सुखीए सदा सचै नामि रचंनि ॥८॥१७॥८॥२५॥

Naanak bhagat sukheee sadaa sachai naami rachanni ||8||17||8||25||

O Nanak, the devotees are happy and peaceful forever. They are absorbed in the True Name. ||8||17||8||25||

ਰਾਗਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਸ੍ਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

रागा विचि स्रीरागु है जे सचि धरे पिआरु ॥

Raagaa vichi sreeraagu hai je sachi dhare piaaru ||

Among the ragas, Siree Raag is the best, if it inspires you to enshrine love for the True Lord.

ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥

सदा हरि सचु मनि वसै निहचल मति अपारु ॥

Sadaa hari sachu mani vasai nihachal mati apaaru ||

The True Lord comes to abide forever in the mind, and your understanding becomes steady and unequalled.

ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

रतनु अमोलकु पाइआ गुर का सबदु बीचारु ॥

Ratanu amolaku paaiaa gur kaa sabadu beechaaru ||

The priceless jewel is obtained, by contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਚੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਅਕਾਰੁ ॥

जिहवा सची मनु सचा सचा सरीर अकारु ॥

Jihavaa sachee manu sachaa sachaa sareer akaaru ||

The tongue becomes true, the mind becomes true, and the body becomes true as well.

नानक सचै सतिगुरि सेविऐ सदा सचु वापारु ॥१॥

Naanak sachai satiguri seviai sadaa sachu vaapaaru ||1||

O Nanak, forever true are the dealings of those who serve the True Guru. ||1||

ਹੋਰੁ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਸਭ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

होरु बिरहा सभ धातु है जब लगु साहिब प्रीति न होइ ॥

Horu birahaa sabh dhaatu hai jab lagu saahib preeti na hoi ||

All other loves are transitory, as long as people do not love their Lord and Master.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

इहु मनु माइआ मोहिआ वेखणु सुनणु न होइ ॥

Ihu manu maaiaa mohiaa vekha(nn)u suna(nn)u na hoi ||

This mind is enticed by Maya-it cannot see or hear.

ਸਹ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

सह देखे बिनु प्रीति न ऊपजै अंधा किआ करेइ ॥

Sah dekhe binu preeti na upajai anddhaa kiaa karei ||

Without seeing her Husband Lord, love does not well up; what can the blind person do?

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਖੀ ਲੀਤੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ॥੨॥

नानक जिनि अखी लीतीआ सोई सचा देइ ॥२॥

Naanak jini akhee leeteeaa soee sachaa dei ||2||

O Nanak, the True One who takes away the eyes of spiritual wisdom-He alone can restore them. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਸਭਾ ਏਵ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਨੇੜੈ ਨਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

गुर सभा एव न पाईऐ ना नेड़ै ना दूरि ॥

Gur sabhaa ev na paaeeai naa ne(rr)ai naa doori ||

The Society of the Guru is not obtained like this, by trying to be near or far away.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥

नानक सतिगुरु तां मिलै जा मनु रहै हदूरि ॥२॥

Naanak satiguru taan milai jaa manu rahai hadoori ||2||

O Nanak, you shall meet the True Guru, if your mind remains in His Presence. ||2||

ਕਲਉ ਮਸਾਜਨੀ ਕਿਆ ਸਦਾਈਐ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹੀ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥

कलउ मसाजनी किआ सदाईऐ हिरदै ही लिखि लेहु ॥

Kalau masaajanee kiaa sadaaeeai hiradai hee likhi lehu ||

Why ask for a pen, and why ask for ink? Write within your heart.

ਸਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਨੇਹੁ ॥

सदा साहिब कै रंगि रहै कबहूं न तूटसि नेहु ॥

Sadaa saahib kai ranggi rahai kabahoonn na tootasi nehu ||

Remain immersed forever in the Love of your Lord and Master, and your love for Him shall never break.

ਕਲਉ ਮਸਾਜਨੀ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਭੀ ਨਾਲੇ ਜਾਇ ॥

कलउ मसाजनी जाइसी लिखिआ भी नाले जाइ ॥

Kalau masaajanee jaaisee likhiaa bhee naale jaai ||

Pen and ink shall pass away, along with what has been written.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥

नानक सह प्रीति न जाइसी जो धुरि छोडी सचै पाइ ॥१॥

Naanak sah preeti na jaaisee jo dhuri chhodee sachai paai ||1||

O Nanak, the Love of your Husband Lord shall never perish. The True Lord has bestowed it, as it was pre-ordained. ||1||

ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਉਪਾਇ ॥

नदरी आवदा नालि न चलई वेखहु को विउपाइ ॥

Nadaree aavadaa naali na chalaee vekhahu ko viupaai ||

That which is seen, shall not go along with you. What does it take to make you see this?

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

सतिगुरि सचु द्रिड़ाइआ सचि रहहु लिव लाइ ॥

Satiguri sachu dri(rr)aaiaa sachi rahahu liv laai ||

The True Guru has implanted the True Name within; remain lovingly absorbed in the True One.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥

नानक सबदी सचु है करमी पलै पाइ ॥२॥

Naanak sabadee sachu hai karamee palai paai ||2||

O Nanak, the Word of His Shabad is True. By His Grace, it is obtained. ||2||

कलम जलउ सणु मसवाणीऐ कागदु भी जलि जाउ ॥

Kalam jalau sa(nn)u masavaa(nn)eeai kaagadu bhee jali jaau ||

Burn the pen, and burn the ink; burn the paper as well.

ਲਿਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥

लिखण वाला जलि बलउ जिनि लिखिआ दूजा भाउ ॥

Likha(nn) vaalaa jali balau jini likhiaa doojaa bhaau ||

Burn the writer who writes in the love of duality.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

नानक पूरबि लिखिआ कमावणा अवरु न करणा जाइ ॥१॥

Naanak poorabi likhiaa kamaava(nn)aa avaru na kara(nn)aa jaai ||1||

O Nanak, people do what is pre-ordained; they cannot do anything else. ||1||

ਹੋਰੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਪੜਣਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

होरु कूड़ु पड़णा कूड़ु बोलणा माइआ नालि पिआरु ॥

Horu koo(rr)u pa(rr)a(nn)aa koo(rr)u bola(nn)aa maaiaa naali piaaru ||

False is other reading, and false is other speaking, in the love of Maya.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥

नानक विणु नावै को थिरु नही पड़ि पड़ि होइ खुआरु ॥२॥

Naanak vi(nn)u naavai ko thiru nahee pa(rr)i pa(rr)i hoi khuaaru ||2||

O Nanak, without the Name, nothing is permanent; those who read and read are ruined. ||2||

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਸਭ ਮੁਈ ਸੰਪਉ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

हउ हउ करती सभ मुई स्मपउ किसै न नालि ॥

Hau hau karatee sabh muee samppau kisai na naali ||

Those who act in ego shall all die. Their worldly possessions shall not go along with them.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਜੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥

दूजै भाइ दुखु पाइआ सभ जोही जमकालि ॥

Doojai bhaai dukhu paaiaa sabh johee jamakaali ||

Because of their love of duality, they suffer in pain. The Messenger of Death is watching all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

नानक गुरमुखि उबरे साचा नामु समालि ॥१॥

Naanak guramukhi ubare saachaa naamu samaali ||1||

O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are saved, by contemplating the True Name. ||1||

Shalok, Third Mehl:

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ॥

हुकमु न जाणै बहुता रोवै ॥

Hukamu na jaa(nn)ai bahutaa rovai ||

One who does not know the Hukam of the Lord's Command cries out in terrible pain.

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧੋਖਾ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਸੋਵੈ ॥

अंदरि धोखा नीद न सोवै ॥

Anddari dhokhaa need na sovai ||

She is filled with deception, and she cannot sleep in peace.

ਜੇ ਧਨ ਖਸਮੈ ਚਲੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥

जे धन खसमै चलै रजाई ॥

Je dhan khasamai chalai rajaaee ||

But if the soul-bride follows the Will of her Lord and Master,

ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥

दरि घरि सोभा महलि बुलाई ॥

Dari ghari sobhaa mahali bulaaee ||

She shall be honored in her own home, and called to the Mansion of His Presence.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੀ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

नानक करमी इह मति पाई ॥

Naanak karamee ih mati paaee ||

O Nanak, by His Mercy, this understanding is obtained.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥

गुर परसादी सचि समाई ॥१॥

Gur parasaadee sachi samaaee ||1||

By Guru's Grace, she is absorbed into the True One. ||1||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭੁਲੁ ॥

मनमुख नाम विहूणिआ रंगु कसु्मभा देखि न भुलु ॥

Manamukh naam vihoo(nn)iaa ranggu kasumbbhaa dekhi na bhulu ||

O self-willed manmukh, devoid of the Naam, do not be misled upon beholding the color of the safflower.

ਇਸ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜਿਆ ਛੋਛਾ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁਲੁ ॥

इस का रंगु दिन थोड़िआ छोछा इस दा मुलु ॥

Is kaa ranggu din tho(rr)iaa chhochhaa is daa mulu ||

Its color lasts for only a few days-it is worthless!

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

दूजै लगे पचि मुए मूरख अंध गवार ॥

Doojai lage pachi mue moorakh anddh gavaar ||

Attached to duality, the foolish, blind and stupid people waste away and die.

ਬਿਸਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟ ਸੇ ਪਇ ਪਚਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥

बिसटा अंदरि कीट से पइ पचहि वारो वार ॥

Bisataa anddari keet se pai pachahi vaaro vaar ||

Like worms, they live in manure, and in it, they die over and over again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

नानक नाम रते से रंगुले गुर कै सहजि सुभाइ ॥

Naanak naam rate se ranggule gur kai sahaji subhaai ||

O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are dyed in the color of truth; they take on the intuitive peace and poise of the Guru.

ਭਗਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

भगती रंगु न उतरै सहजे रहै समाइ ॥२॥

Bhagatee ranggu na utarai sahaje rahai samaai ||2||

The color of devotional worship does not fade away; they remain intuitively absorbed in the Lord. ||2||

ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਆਇ ॥

पड़ि पड़ि पंडित बेद वखाणहि माइआ मोह सुआइ ॥

Pa(rr)i pa(rr)i panddit bed vakhaa(nn)ahi maaiaa moh suaai ||

The Pandits, the religious scholars, constantly read and recite the Vedas, for the sake of the love of Maya.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥

दूजै भाइ हरि नामु विसारिआ मन मूरख मिलै सजाइ ॥

Doojai bhaai hari naamu visaariaa man moorakh milai sajaai ||

In the love of duality, the foolish people have forgotten the Lord's Name; they shall receive their punishment.

ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਜੋ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿ ॥

जिनि जीउ पिंडु दिता तिसु कबहूं न चेतै जो देंदा रिजकु स्मबाहि ॥

Jini jeeu pinddu ditaa tisu kabahoonn na chetai jo dendaa rijaku sambbaahi ||

They never think of the One who gave them body and soul, who provides sustenance to all.

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਗਲਹੁ ਨ ਕਟੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

जम का फाहा गलहु न कटीऐ फिरि फिरि आवै जाइ ॥

Jam kaa phaahaa galahu na kateeai phiri phiri aavai jaai ||

The noose of death shall not be cut away from their necks; they shall come and go in reincarnation over and over again.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

मनमुखि किछू न सूझै अंधुले पूरबि लिखिआ कमाइ ॥

Manamukhi kichhoo na soojhai anddhule poorabi likhiaa kamaai ||

The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not understand anything. They do what they are pre-ordained to do.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

पूरै भागि सतिगुरु मिलै सुखदाता नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥

Poorai bhaagi satiguru milai sukhadaataa naamu vasai mani aai ||

Through perfect destiny, they meet the True Guru, the Giver of peace, and the Naam comes to abide in the mind.

ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥

सुखु माणहि सुखु पैनणा सुखे सुखि विहाइ ॥

Sukhu maa(nn)ahi sukhu paina(nn)aa sukhe sukhi vihaai ||

They enjoy peace, they wear peace, and they pass their lives in the peace of peace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥

नानक सो नाउ मनहु न विसारीऐ जितु दरि सचै सोभा पाइ ॥१॥

Naanak so naau manahu na visaareeai jitu dari sachai sobhaa paai ||1||

O Nanak, they do not forget the Naam from the mind; they are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥

सतिगुरु सेवि सुखु पाइआ सचु नामु गुणतासु ॥

Satiguru sevi sukhu paaiaa sachu naamu gu(nn)ataasu ||

Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained. The True Name is the Treasure of Excellence.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

गुरमती आपु पछाणिआ राम नाम परगासु ॥

Guramatee aapu pachhaa(nn)iaa raam naam paragaasu ||

Follow the Guru's Teachings, and recognize your own self; the Divine Light of the Lord's Name shall shine within.

ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

सचो सचु कमावणा वडिआई वडे पासि ॥

Sacho sachu kamaava(nn)aa vadiaaee vade paasi ||

The true ones practice Truth; greatness rests in the Great Lord.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

जीउ पिंडु सभु तिस का सिफति करे अरदासि ॥

Jeeu pinddu sabhu tis kaa siphati kare aradaasi ||

Body, soul and all things belong to the Lord-praise Him, and offer your prayers to Him.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥

सचै सबदि सालाहणा सुखे सुखि निवासु ॥

Sachai sabadi saalaaha(nn)aa sukhe sukhi nivaasu ||

Sing the Praises of the True Lord through the Word of His Shabad, and you shall abide in the peace of peace.

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸੁ ॥

जपु तपु संजमु मनै माहि बिनु नावै ध्रिगु जीवासु ॥

Japu tapu sanjjamu manai maahi binu naavai dhrigu jeevaasu ||

You may practice chanting, penance and austere self-discipline within your mind, but without the Name, life is useless.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥

गुरमती नाउ पाईऐ मनमुख मोहि विणासु ॥

Guramatee naau paaeeai manamukh mohi vi(nn)aasu ||

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Name is obtained, while the self-willed manmukh wastes away in emotional attachment.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸੁ ॥੨॥

जिउ भावै तिउ राखु तूं नानकु तेरा दासु ॥२॥

Jiu bhaavai tiu raakhu toonn naanaku teraa daasu ||2||

Please protect me, by the Pleasure of Your Will. Nanak is Your slave. ||2||
